Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center off New Harper Road in Owensboro, Dr. Skaggs and his group. It's like the Chick-fil-A of dermatology. There's people now back there getting their, say, came to the show, and now they're getting their facials done. Oh, thank you to them very much for having us out here. you can go get checked out for any potential skin cancer issues or pamper yourself with things like facials. Thank you to them for having us. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:03:39 It is graduation weekend if you are in Lexington with your family. Come on by KS. Bar. It's always a good spot for, you know, I've noticed a lot of graduates who are like, what do I talk to my dad about? You just go to KS. Bar, Shannon, and then they can sit and dad can be like, oh, that's Jamal Mashburn. Do you know who that is?
Starting point is 00:03:55 And then the kid will go, he'll be like, Mario, no. Who in the world is that? And you can feel really old. That's the way it goes. Yeah. I can't believe that Mario. Well, I guess I should believe it because he's young, but he doesn't know a lot of those guys from the 90s that you're listening to. You can't feel older.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Do not. There's no way to feel older than to ride in the car with Mario and listen to the 90s on 9 station on Sirius. And you go, hey, Mario. Do you know Pearl Jam? No. What? Hold on a minute. I got to have a talk with you, Mario.
Starting point is 00:04:26 You don't know Pearl Jam? Hey, Mario. Do you know NWA straight out of Compton? No. I mean like. Like you want, I mean, I'm telling you. You realize the world did exist before 2000, right? No, he does not realize that.
Starting point is 00:04:39 He does not realize that. But now you can sound really smart because you can tell him facts. And blow his mind. And it blows his mind. You can be like, the president of the United States had a relationship with his intern. And then they impeached him for it. And he'd go, what? Who?
Starting point is 00:04:59 Really? Bill Clinton. Yeah, Bill Clinton. Oh, okay. So, like, it's good. You can sound like the smartest person alive. Back in our day, we didn't have cell phones all the time. So sometimes you had to go to your neighbor's house.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Again, you want to sound like the oldest person ever? Talk to stories about before cell phones. Tell people's stories about how if you went out on a Friday night, if you didn't go with your friends, they were just gone. You just never saw them again. See y'all when we get home. Like stories like that. Drew blow young people's mind. I still haven't recovered from the day of the Oaks when we did the show of your house
Starting point is 00:05:33 and you mentioned your DVDs and he laughed at DVDs like, one of those. And I'm thinking those aren't even that old, right? I mean, that made me feel 90 when he did that. DVDs, what is it? DVD. Before cell phones, if you were out driving, you had a flat tire. You had to like walk to somebody's house or to a convenience store or someplace to get a phone to call somebody.
Starting point is 00:05:52 It is amazing to think about how different just even bait. Literally yesterday from Cincinnati to Owensboro, you put it in your phone, it tells you how to get there. There would have been a time that I would have had to check with someone or get a map out. Where's the hotel again? It's on what road and like stop at a gas station and ask for directions? And so anyway, if you know someone in their 20s in life, just tell them stories like that and you will feel like you are ancient. Just yesterday My son didn't know who Sammy Sosa was
Starting point is 00:06:28 I'm like what? Didn't know who Sammy Sosa He never heard of Sammy Sosa Wow Because I was going to show him a picture What he looks like now compared to what he used to look like And it was good because he just thought what he looked like now It's just who he was
Starting point is 00:06:42 That's how he was That's what Sammy Sosa looks like Yeah Well anyway You know I feel like we were early on this story Drew But once again This morning it
Starting point is 00:06:53 5 a.m. The Newark Airport lost all off control with flights again. They were up for 20 seconds. The radar and all radio went out at 5 a.m. today. You know, I'm sure it would cause massive disruptions to everything. But I'm kind of amazed they're still letting people fly in and out of there if this has now happened multiple times. I noticed when I landed
Starting point is 00:07:23 in Cincinnati last night. I just looked at the board. There were two flights that were supposed to come in from Newark to Cincinnati. Both had been canceled. That was just, you know, in that airport. My mom said to me, if you decide to fly to Newark, do not tell me. I do not want to know. But it's kind of amazing they're still using it. Has there been any stats or info on people just like no showing their flights or canceling their flights? I've seen there's been cancellations. There's apparently this morning. Tons of cancellations. I, you know, what do you do? Like, if you're the former dude on the road rules that's now in charge of Transportation Secretary,
Starting point is 00:08:01 by the way, one of the more qualified people in this administration. I'm just kidding, but you know I'm not. If, what do you do if you're him? I see him on TV. He seems like a pretty smart guy. I don't know what you do. Like, do you just let it go? I mean, there's only three airports into New York.
Starting point is 00:08:21 I'm sure it would be a disaster to have. have one of them closed, but like it feels crazy dangerous. The fact that now it's happened more than once, do you think there's, they got to have investigation, they made there's something nefarious going on? No what? Nefarious. You sounded like it's the first time you'd ever said that word. Maybe the first time.
Starting point is 00:08:42 I think it was. The far, fair, well, I mean, they say, I mean, they say the reason is this old system that then got converted. I read, New York Times had a long reason as to why. But in the most optimistic view, it won't be fixed until August. So, Shannon, if it's not going to be fixed until August, I just don't know how you can keep having people flying and out of it. I wouldn't be one of them.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Well, let's say you have to go to New York. Have to. And I'm sure the other airports are getting full. Yeah. What are you going to do? I guess I'm going to drive and part my car for $80 a night. You would not go. No, absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:09:24 They really should offer a refund knowing what's going on to anybody who already has a flight book there. And if it happens once, that's an accident. Two times for me is a trend. It's definitely a trend. I mean, like, this has been in the news and then it happened again this morning. Like, I do think it starts to get scary after a while. I'm supposed to go in June. I haven't booked my flight yet.
Starting point is 00:09:44 I'm wondering how much more is worth paying for the other airports. How much is your life worth? I'm not someone that really fears flying or things like that. It is worth. I probably will pay a premium for LaGuardia or JFK, though. Newark is very convenient, though. Well, it's not now, apparently. Now, another thing that's worth noting, okay, and I don't know exactly how this is going to play out,
Starting point is 00:10:10 but, you know, we've talked a lot about in the last couple years, the House settlement, the future of college sports, et cetera. So Trump is apparently or either, I don't know if he's done it officially, if they've just announced he's going to, is going to create a college sports commission to figure out the future of college sports. In theory, I don't think that's a bad idea. It's going to be chaired by Nick Saban, which I find a little odd because Nick Sabin's a smart guy, but he's also a football coach. Like at the end of the day, I feel like you need somebody who understands business. But I think there's also going to be maybe a business guy on it too, but Nick Saban's going to be the chair.
Starting point is 00:10:52 They're going to hope they're going to come up with ideas for the future. I don't want to get into legal mumbo-jumbo, but pretty much anything they try to do unilaterally, I think courts are going to say they're going to strike it all down. They're still going to have, they're going to have to pass congressional legislation. If they don't, they're just asking to get struck down by the court, in my opinion. Anything the president does on his own with this is going to get struck down. There's going to have to be congressional legislation. But let's just assume they come up with something that fixes it.
Starting point is 00:11:26 Do you think Nick Saban is the right person to create the future of college sports? Well, in theory, to be honest, I love the idea there's got a committee that he's going to look into it. Is he the right guy? I mean, he seems to kind of, you know, be having a pretty good handle of the recruiting world and the NIL world. I guess I can't think of anybody maybe better they're off top of my head. But he quit coaching because he retired. That's my issue. First of all, the dude is in his 70s.
Starting point is 00:11:55 He quit because he doesn't want this. And now you're going to put him in charge of fixing it. He's going to go back to the way it was before. Exactly, which is going to get struck down by the courts again. Right. He's going to say NIL, no. And then everybody they've talked about putting on the thing, everyone I've seen are people who are anti-NIL.
Starting point is 00:12:18 And it seems, it feels like to me, the NCAA, there have been talks, the NCAA has gone to Trump and has talked to him. The NCAA is just trying to continue to put off what is inevitable, Drew, which is they're going to have to do this and put Nick Saban, who was against it. I just, I don't, I actually, I can't believe I'm about to say this sentence, but I actually trust Ted Cruz and Corey Booker more because those two got that's a bipartisan thing. They can pass a law that could stand up to the courts. I just think this is a bad idea to have Nick Saban come out and do that.
Starting point is 00:12:54 It just makes that. To me, it won't work. Yeah, when he retired, he made it pretty clear. I don't want to deal with these kids with their handout. Just want money. I just want to coach football. And they need to be looking to the future. That kind of is looking backwards to me.
Starting point is 00:13:07 I mean, if it up to Nick Saban, I think he would just go back to paying the from all his car dealership. And I like Nick Saban. Don't get me wrong. That's what he did. Maybe that's the model we'll have. What do you mean? Is that what he did?
Starting point is 00:13:18 You have information? Absolutely. Google Nick Saban car dealership, Alabama, and he'll just show you all the players he signed. Well, I don't, first of all, I don't know if that's true. I feel like that's got to be a Reddit thread. No, that's, you know. You're saying Nick Saban, did he own the car dealers?
Starting point is 00:13:32 Well, you don't think Alabama got those rosters legitimately, right? Of course not. But you have very specific facts. Yeah. I don't know what. models of cars they were selling, but all those players didn't sign up to go to Tuscaloosa for free. Now I know what I'm going to. I know what I got to Google when this is over. Just do your research.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Sorry, I will. I will do my research. Who's up next, Rick? PT is up next. PT. How are you PT? Hey, Matt, thanks for taking my call. Welcome to the West Cal Punk Band in the World, Ninthown Hammer.
Starting point is 00:14:08 So I call it director. and you've been talking about Joe Creason. I actually have a record by Joe Creason. Oh, really? His home spun wisdom. Yeah, it's called Joe Creason's Spins Kentucky Yarns. And if you want to imagine, like a little talking about,
Starting point is 00:14:31 like, Bluegrass, Home Campania kind of stuff, that's what it sounds like. Anyway, if you ever want to listen to it, I can play some cuts for you. Okay, well, I appreciate it. Let me say, Yeah, go ahead. Joe talks about AI the other day, and I have a lot of calling games and talking about past
Starting point is 00:14:51 seasons. So, I mean, I know there's lots of stuff out there for him, but you don't want to hear some I appreciate the call. I will say this, one of the cool things, getting to know the story. How many of you, before we mentioned it, had heard of Joe Creason? Okay, a handful of people. I have now had people both writing me and then I've read about the guy. and I'm really glad if nothing else this happened just so I could read about that dude.
Starting point is 00:15:17 He had, he really was in some ways like me in the sense of that he liked all of the sort of small town Kentucky stories and people. And he did, he did really cool stuff. He basically at a time before you could Google all these towns, et cetera, would travel town to town and write about them and tell stories. And I, just a fascinating guy. So, like, you know, you drive Ryan by Park and you see it. The highway you all have coming in here, Ernie something, Harris. What's the name of the? Does anybody.
Starting point is 00:15:54 They're all just staring at you blinkly. Like, what? No, as we dropped in, is it not Ernie Harris? No, I'm saying when I, I, no. I came off the interstate. I turned down when you go straight down from 65. and then there was a road that the last time I was here was not named, and now it's named that goes into downtown.
Starting point is 00:16:17 You all are looking at me like I'm from a different. Are you all from Owensboro? I know this road was now. Okay, never. The point was I was wondering who that was, but clearly you all can't answer that question since you all don't even know the name of the road. My point being, sometimes you see a name on something,
Starting point is 00:16:33 and you don't understand like there's a lot of history behind that name. That's been interesting. And we have pickleball to think, for that because if weren't for pickleball, Matt, we would never go look into who Joe Creason is. Just for the record, I know that road is named something. I saw it, and it wasn't named something the last time I was here. Tell me about Stockton mortgage. Stockton Mortgage say you're looking to buy a new home, build a new home, do a cash-out refinance, build a new deck on the back of your home. Stockton Morgan can help you every step of the way. Stock the mortgage, NMLS, 8259, equal housing lender. When we drive home, I'm going to go find what that road is. On the Ernie Harris? Ernie Harris. Driving down the Ernie Harris. It's names.
Starting point is 00:17:21 What is it called? I know Window Ford. That's not the one I'm talking about. I know Windleford. There was another road. We'll be right back. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game.

And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
Starting point is 00:19:30 He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman, catapulted Jacob, into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies
Starting point is 00:19:50 I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you. you know, is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin
Starting point is 00:20:42 and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas, and Katie Ladeki.
Starting point is 00:20:59 The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win. more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can, like, I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:21:37 Anybody confirm Ernie Harris Highway? There is an Ernie Harris Parkway. All right. So there, I was partially right. I did see an Ernie Harris Highway, but it was in Oldham County. Yeah, it's 103 miles away. Just missed it. But I did see it.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Yeah, it does exist. And it did exist. It just was in a different part of the state. And I remember seeing it last night and going, I don't remember having never seen that exit, But that makes more sense. I make the Louisville to Cincinnati drive a lot for the Red. So that's probably where I hadn't seen. It both start with an Odom County, Owensboro.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I can easily see weight. I thought that's what he was going to say. We had a great moment yesterday where he asked what Dex Sand was because he was reading an ad read and it said Dex and he stopped out of my space in the middle. One of my favorite Ryan moments. Yeah, that's a great. That is a great moment. Speaking of the Reds, I watch.
Starting point is 00:22:37 the Reds Braves game last night on the airplane and just stayed bad the whole time. Me too. The Reds found 15 different ways to blow that game. I mean, they had second and third with Ellie and McLean up, one out, couldn't get a hit, up four, two in the ninth, blow it, give away a ball that barely gets out of the infield, lets them score, and the guy ends up at third. They just, I'm done. I'm back to being done again.
Starting point is 00:23:05 There are only one game under 500. I know, but they should. They have had at least 10 games this year that I can think of that they should have won, including the opening day. They could have been good. And now Hunter Green's hurt. We're done. Your left filter broke his forearm in the first game.
Starting point is 00:23:22 I don't know if you saw that. First of all, left fielder broke his forearm, caught it, and then they didn't even give him credit for it. They let the guy get a home run while he's sitting there with his arm half off. If the ball was on the ground. But he caught it. He didn't catch it. And then his arm broke. He hit his glove.
Starting point is 00:23:37 He didn't catch it. I mean, how cruel is that? The man is broken his arm. I saw a lot of Reds fans were upset because Matt Olson continued to run the bases. Yes, he should have stopped and said, are you okay? No. This is not a courtesy. The dude broke his arm and then they just let him score from first.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Ryan, I thought that was extremely rude. I'm so glad you're talking about this because I was listening to the Reds driving here last night. They go up four two in the bottom of the ninth and can't. Hang on. Brave scored two in the bottom of the night to tie it. But it wasn't just that. It was that you watched it. Like, they blew it so many different ways. And you know, in the extra innings, they let the people start on second.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Both innings, we couldn't get them to score. He butted the ball and the dude just ran into the butt. Well, as a res fan, you should be used to that. They are so frustrating. They are so dumb. All the whole team. They only got 120 more games to go. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Braves are back, though. I only have tickets. They only have tickets for 60 of them. So it should be great. It very, very frustrating. I will say tonight, if you're not doing anything, they are saying that Madison Square Garden tonight might be the best environment in the garden since the 90s when Reggie Miller showed up.
Starting point is 00:24:58 You know, Knicks are up two games to zero. Getting in the building, okay, just getting in for a basketball. game. The lowest price ticket is $1,100 for Nick Celtics tonight. Just to get in. The Knicks have not been great for a long time, but when they're good, that place is wild. And if they were to win tonight, go 3-0 up on the Celtics, it might be night-night. I would really, you know, unfortunately have to fly to Newark probably, but I would really love to go and be in Madison Square Garden tonight. It's going to be awesome. Yeah. Coming off, you know, St. John, Don's had the good year, and they were filling the garden.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Now the Knicks are making this magical run in the playoffs, going to fill the garden again. I don't know how they beat the Celtics the other night, down 20 and came back. They've been out 20 twice and have come back both times. Don't you feel good now? It's early. It could still screw up, but don't you feel good, Drew, for Carl Town? Oh, definitely. He's taking so much heat over the years, and, like, it feels like he has found his place and his rhythm, etc.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Yeah, even though he played well for Minnesota, he had the drama with Jimmy Butler. A lot of things I painted Carl on a bad light when I think. he's just a good guy. It might have been while they were being negative about him. But he goes home to New York. You know, he's from right in that area, I think, across the Hudson River. So I'm thrilled that in his first year, he has them in this spot. He's played great in the playoffs so far, too.
Starting point is 00:26:17 I know you're a Celtics fan, Shannon. So, I mean, you would disagree with this. But as a neutral party who doesn't really care, I'm for the Knicks. I feel like basketball is better when the Knicks are good. I think it's a cool story with all those guys from Villanova. You know, big time for Villanova. All those guys from Villanova, the Pope. I mean, things are big for Villanova.
Starting point is 00:26:39 And then you get Carl, I just think it's, I think it's awesome. If they weren't playing my Celtics, I would be for the Knicks. And those Knicks teams in the 90s were so good. Unfortunately, they just ran into Michael Jordan every year. New York fans can be hard to like sometimes, but I have their watch party in front of the garden. And even the ones that stayed around in Boston were chanting, you can just tell they're fired up for this run.
Starting point is 00:27:00 And then the celebrities that are going to be there. Oh, yeah. I think about it. I mean, all the stars are going to. to be out Tracy Morgan will be there is he going to throw up on the court again I hope he doesn't throw up on the court it might add to the ambiance who's up next scotty is next scotty go ahead scotty I just this is an update on the lady with all of the suckers the dumb suckers yes I heard on the news that that some doctors and banks in lexington had bought a lot of
Starting point is 00:27:31 those who have turned out at their office that's not completely Yes, it was. It was very nice. Yeah, that is nice. I didn't know that. About Joe Preason. Yes, I heard that on the news. I think it was yesterday.
Starting point is 00:27:47 And Joe Creason was fantastic. Every morning before I went to high school, I would read Joe Creason's column in the Career Journal, and it was just a great way to start my day finding out about Kentucky. There you go. Well, I love it. Well, I appreciate the call. That'll be my call today.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Scotty, giving us some information there. You know, it has been kind of cool to learn about a dude that time has kind of forgotten. I knew nothing about the guy, and we understand he was very important to the state of Kentucky. Now, being here in Owensboro, you're wearing a Wesleyan hat. K-dub. Did you see that Chet Lemon, who is how you got your name, your nickname Chet, for people who don't know, played baseball in the 70s, has a famous baseball car with his Afro way out and the hat sitting on top of it, played for the Detroit Tigers.
Starting point is 00:28:34 it's how Ryan got his nickname of Chet. He passed away last night right before you were going to be in Owensboro. Crazy timing. But, you know, that's sad, and you had to be sad. That's your nickname. It hit me. I mean, it's a sad day for Kentucky Wesleyan baseball when Chet Lemon passed away. Well, he didn't play at Kentucky Wesleyan.
Starting point is 00:28:54 He has no connection to Kentucky Weston. RIP, Chet Lemon. I like how you think the Kentucky Wesleyan team. It was going to be mourning. Yes. They have no connection. connection to Kentucky Wesley. My boys were sending me condolences all day long.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Okay, I can understand sending you condolences, but Kentucky Wesleyan has nothing to do with Chet Limb. We adopted him. He's an honorary member. No, you adopted him. We made him an honorary member. Never met the guy, but I love him. RIP, Chet Lemon.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Well, RIP to Chet Lippon 8-9-280-2287. Text machine is 772-7-7-4. We'll take a break. Be right back. Kentucky Skin Cancer Center here at Owensboro. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Kentucky Skin Care Center. You know, when caught early skin cancer is one of the most treatable cancers out there. So make sure and get checked out.
Starting point is 00:29:49 I do it every year. I have the kind of skin that it can, you know, you can get the spots on sometimes. So I get them checked out every year having a place removed here very soon. So make sure you do that. Keep yourself healthy. We have some more breaking news, Rick. Wow. Big day. More.
Starting point is 00:30:08 The University of North Carolina issues a statement and says while Jordan Hudson is not an employee of the University of North Carolina, she is always welcome at North Carolina football facility. She made him send that, right? Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:30:26 She stood over someone's desk and told them to send that out. She's going to be the president of that school soon. She is. That's right. Nobody will tell her. or no. I mean, how about UNC issue it?
Starting point is 00:30:36 Can you imagine Mitch Barnhart issued an official statement that says someone's girlfriend is allowed back into the facility? This is unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:30:45 She's going to be calling plays during the season. She's going to have the headset on. The fact that the university has to issue this statement just makes it so ridiculous. I love it. I love it.
Starting point is 00:30:55 I'm starting to, you know, my view on it just keeps flipping. I'm starting to think, be honest with you, this woman's kind of badass. I mean, like,
Starting point is 00:31:02 I mean, college athletics, a lot of dudes who kind of run the show and thinking, like, she's just taking over all of them. I think she might be, maybe she should head the college football commission instead of Nick Savant. She kind of, I think runs things. I'm actually, I'd be a little afraid of her. She's getting the university. She walked in the office with a picture of their family and just said, you know, send this out, make sure I'm good. Yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Go, go. So where did that initial report that she's not welcome come from? Is that great? Ballotori. Okay. I saw him tweeting that he was not backing down on it about. Oh, he's not backing down on it about. Well, a few people said, are you sure about this?
Starting point is 00:31:40 He was like, absolutely. So, uh, you got a little scoop off. But maybe it's how it was and it changed. So they, you know, we talked a couple days ago about the Triple Crown and about moving the preteness and the Belmont. The Preteness came out yesterday and said they agree with people that say the date should be changed and they would like to move it back, and they suggested the exact weekend I did, Memorial Day,
Starting point is 00:32:06 and then the Belmont came out and said, we ain't moving. So ultimately now we know who to blame. It is the Belmont, the New York State Racing Commission. They said the Belmont is historic, and everybody wants it on the day that it is, which is a complete lie because no one even knows when the Belmont stakes is. It's not like the first Saturday in May.
Starting point is 00:32:28 When is the Belmont stakes? June, five weeks after? Five weeks. Yeah, exactly. You don't even know the date. You go five weeks after the derby. So that's a lie. But now we know at least, Shannon, who to blame if we're not able to change the triple
Starting point is 00:32:43 crown? A horse racing is a sport that needs casual fans. You need fans like me that would be interested in watching a horse run for the triple crown. Now that sovereignty is out, I have no interest at all in watching Preakness or the Belmont, either one. And also, I learned some stuff I didn't know. So when people talk about history, they say, you know, they say, well, this is how it's always been. And I actually read an article, it hasn't been.
Starting point is 00:33:07 These dates started in 1969. Before 1969, there were years the Belmont was before the pretenance, and the preteness was after it. There were times that there were bigger gaps. There actually were times there were smaller gaps. It's changed. But this was also the most fascinating thing to me, Ryan. back in the day, the average derby horse started 12 races before they ran in the derby. Now they start an average of four or five races.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Horses are not trained to run as long, and when they asked a couple of the trainers why, they said, look, these bloodlines have gotten so narrowed to the same few horses that the horses just physically can't go as long for as long as they used to. Whether that's true or not, the fact that they run half as many races before the derby suggest that maybe we should change with the way horses are run now, so why not push it back and make it more exciting? And especially the thing you said about the Belmont puzzles me. They've moved the Belmont to Saratoga this year.
Starting point is 00:34:10 They act like it's sacred. It's in a different track this year. It's at Saratoga for the next two years. It can't be that sacred. They're changing the track. Can they not change the date? Can you imagine they just move the derby turf way? for a year?
Starting point is 00:34:24 Like, they're not going to do that. Now that I know the preakness would move, they should just move anyway until the Belmont do it. We'll be the weekend before you, and you can deal with the consequences. That would be an interesting way to do it. But now we at least, if you want it to happen, we now know the exact entity.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Maybe we can get the people who change Joe Creason Park to go up there to the Belmont and make it work. Who's up next? Jerry is next. Jerry. Go ahead, Jerry. Hey, Matt. Back on this thing you're talking about it, Newark. having flown up in that airspace for years and all over the country,
Starting point is 00:34:57 what I would tell you is I wouldn't be concerned about your physical safety as far as planes crashed or anything. But what happens is when those systems go down, you go back to what they control traffic in the 50s. It's a lot of mental stuff and they have to really decrease the number of aircraft there. So you're going to have cancels and delays, which would be a reason not to go there. but it's not a thing where planes are going to be falling out of the sky. It's pilots and controllers are trying to deal with this. We deal with it all the time. And even if all the radios on the airplane go out,
Starting point is 00:35:35 I still have a way to communicate with APC if I need to. Yeah, I wouldn't do that word about it. Well, I appreciate the info. I appreciate it. I will say this. Shannon, I actually feel sorry for the air traffic controllers there. I mean, I'm sure that is a, that is a job that right now, you know, there's only 15 of them. They've had, they lost a bunch and then five people took the leave.
Starting point is 00:36:01 So you have 15 people operating that. I saw the transportation secretary and Pete Buttigieg, the previous one agreed with this. They said you can't just move somebody else. The systems are completely different. So it's like we can't even bring somebody to somebody else. So think about those 15 people. The amount of stress they would be in. That would suck.
Starting point is 00:36:23 You got those 15 people doing the jobs of two or three other people. It's kind of like, you know, being a radio host and having to produce your own show. You're doing a lot of air for things at once. It could be very stressful. And a lot of lives on the one. Yeah, that's right. That's true. Are you, you're comparing yourself to the multitasking part.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Not saying I'm saving lives here. I think you're saving lives here. You're on air traffic control. That's true. I am on the air. You do, to be fair to you, you do. run your show, answer the calls. Play the music, hit the brakes.
Starting point is 00:36:55 They will, I think I'm overqualified to the airtime control. That's not give him a producer. But that's actually a very hard thing. It is. It is. All right. So graduation, yes, give him a round of them. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:07 I didn't need a pop for that. Thank you. So graduations this weekend, it's today and tomorrow. Drew's wife has a big part in that. She's a little stressed out, isn't she? Yeah, I haven't seen her in a few weeks. She's working all night. All day.
Starting point is 00:37:20 This is a big part of what she does at UK. You were saying that, like, sometimes people wait till the last minute. There's some chaos up until the last second. She was pretty busy last night, but it is pretty neat knowing all the – I get to see the list. I mean, UK put this out, too, but all the people going through it, I didn't realize until yesterday that Rondo is coming back to graduate. Jean Rondo is graduating this weekend.
Starting point is 00:37:44 I think – you knew Rondo, Ryan, better than I did. I mean, he was here, I guess what? He was here in, it came in 03, so he went to school in 04 and 05, I believe that's great. Maybe it's 05-06, I'm not sure. But anyway, he came back here, was going to be a grad assistant, but then didn't. There was a couple hiccups there, but it was important to him to graduate. Very cool he's doing that this weekend. I think he's walking state.
Starting point is 00:38:12 So if you have a kid graduating, you may hear Rondo. If you have a kid whose last name's in the R's, they might be sitting next to Rondo this weekend i really admired the things he's done since he left basketball he does a lot of youth camps in louisville really you know tries to his coaches his own kids going went back to school finish his degree now he was here he was a jerk he was hard to kill with you ask anybody what you say what you think he was a jerk he'll probably admit he was a jerk but it is kind of cool to you think he would you think if we called him up he'd say i was a jerk all right congratulations rondo's what we meant to say yeah congrats on graduation
Starting point is 00:38:48 You jerk. It is unique. There's a lot of basketball players. There's like 116 student athletes, but more basketball that we've seen in a while. Kirkresso will be there. Hansi Almanor. You know, you all know the names. Let me ask you, without calling them jerks, who were the hardest people when you were in media to deal with?
Starting point is 00:39:08 I knew Rondo would be number one. I think most media members would have said Rondo was number one, although Rondo's very smart. So he was an interesting guy to talk to. Even though he could be a little prickly, who else was kind of hard to deal with? Antoine Walker. He was hard to deal with. Was he? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Gerald Fitch. Gerald Fitch did not seem like he was in a good mood a lot of the time. No, uh-uh. There's been a lot of football players that were good guys, just not good interviews, and you kind of know who they are. You just kind of stay away from them because they're not a good interview. I never thought, Drew, when we were doing it, I never thought, I can't think of a player I thought was like a jerk. The twins were hard to talk to.
Starting point is 00:39:50 They were very, very quiet, especially Andrew. He just didn't seem to want to deal with anybody. Is there anybody else you can think of? You're around him even more than I was. There's one. I actually found it funny. I don't even want to label him as a jerk. But one time I was standing by chair waiting for Isaiah Briscoe to come out.
Starting point is 00:40:06 And he literally walked up. He goes, I don't want to talk to these people. And I'm like, all right, I'm right here. Like, I'm one foot from you about to talk to you. I say, actually, Isaiah Briscoe, is number one. But he would cut up a little bit. He would just complain about having to do it, which was fine, you know, especially this was around the tournament.
Starting point is 00:40:21 They'd do it three days in a row. I kind of got his point. But he would look right at us and pretty much admit he didn't want to be there. I'd forgotten about – I'd say, Abrisco, that's a really top one. I've got to say one more, and people aren't going to like this. But hold through to the story. Rex Chapman was really hard to work with. And in years later, he came up and he even apologized to him.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Man, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I was that way. I was, you know, cocky thought I was the best thing ever. but I'm sorry I acted that way I did. So I think as he got older, he seems to really want to get along with people all the time. During the- What thing you say about Rex?
Starting point is 00:40:55 He never wants to cause a ruckus at all, Shamed. That's right. He seems pretty just like, you know, whatever. Average run-of-the-mill guy on Twitter. During the Calder, I never seen him anymore. I never seen him anymore. No, he's been pretty quiet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:09 That's where he made a big name for himself was all the stuff he did on Twitter. Yes. Draft Kings, let's do our picks tonight. I was wrong. The Knicks and Celtics play tomorrow. Tonight, the Cavs, down 2-0 to the Pacers, playing in Indianapolis, not that far from here. Cleveland's a four-and-a-favorite on the road. They got to win tonight, Drew.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Are they going to do it? Yeah, I think they win in cover. I mean, they were up seven with a minutes ago. They've had some absolute meltdowns. I just feel like that can't keep happening. If so, they don't even deserve to be where they are at this point. They got to win tonight. They win it tonight?
Starting point is 00:41:42 No, Pacers win. I'm a Pacer's fan. They're on fire right now. It's going to be Pacers and Knicks for the championship series. I like watching Tyrese Halliburton and Channing because it feels like the rest of the league. The players just don't like him. And they get mad at him and he makes the shot and he talks trash and his dad comes out. They were Channing overrated at him 30 seconds before he hit the game winner.
Starting point is 00:42:02 To be fair, though, if your dad comes on the court and tries to fight people, I think people are going to be upset. Yeah, I wouldn't like that guy either. Who you got tonight? Road teams and the NBA playoffs have been really good this year, but I think the Pacers win tonight, though. What are you picking? And then I'm going to take the calves to win one. I think the Pacers win the next one. Thunder Nuggets, one, one.
Starting point is 00:42:22 They had a blowout the other night. I scored 150 points against him the other night. I'm going to take Yokic at home, gets the victory. What about you? I think I'm going to go with the Thunder on this one. I think the Nuggets win this one, but lose the next three in the series. All right. Shea is on another level right now.
Starting point is 00:42:39 He is just dominating, but it's going to be hard to beat Yokic at the Nuggets at home, I think. She was a plus 51 in that game. I know, that's crazy. For the Nuggets Thunder, just so you know, three Kentucky guys out there, you got SGA, Murray is on Denver, and then Kaysen Wallace, people forget about it, but that's dude could be playing in the NBA finals as a key contributor. I will still say that team, if Kaysen, if we had given the ball to Kaysen Wallace and Taita Washington is our point guard, no offense to severe Wheeler.
Starting point is 00:43:09 But if we had used Taitai one year and Kaysen the next year, Drew, I think Cal might finished his career here. I really do. I think that was a huge mistake. Not like those two dudes could play especially case and wall. I loved casein Wallace. He's one of the rare freshmen that came in really wanting to guard and play defense. He took down on approach because he also gets the bucket and scores. I've been very happy watching him with OKC even though he comes off the bench. He's playing some meaningful minutes. That's some big highlights. We forget about him, but he was a really, really good player here. We will take a break and come back. Final segment here in Owensboro at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Starting point is 00:48:02 It has to be the first time that I can remember the KSR show where people got cosmetic work done during it. it has happened. Speak for yourself. You know, you can, they have gift cards. Mother's Day weekend. Look, if somebody's going to get mama. Is everybody, you going to see your mom? I'm going to leave here and go to Indiana and see my mama. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:48:19 I'm meeting my parents Sunday in Berea to see my mom. Little spoon bread at the Daniel Boone Tavern. That's right. So I'm looking forward to that after the Matt Meyron show. I got to get back tomorrow is my wife's birthday. And then the next day's Mother's Day. And I could be a little more prepared than I am if we're being honest. So I got to get back to,
Starting point is 00:48:38 Lexington and do a good card. A big weekend for UK baseball. They play against Oklahoma this weekend in a home series. Probably a must-win series to make the NCAA tournament. Probably need to win two of three to get in. They're kind of on the bubble after getting swept at Mississippi State last week. All those games are at Kentucky Pride Park. Kentucky Pratt Park.
Starting point is 00:49:03 Go out and see them. Weather's supposed to be good, especially Saturday and Sunday. But massive games. for UK baseball as they hope to make the postseason. Yeah, two out of three would be good this weekend. You got Vandy after that, so if you can maybe split. Vandy's not very good, though, you this year. Well, not compared to years past.
Starting point is 00:49:18 I think if you split, maybe go three and three, they still got a chance to go. But, you know, Kentucky baseball, just a couple of weeks ago, we're looking at like a two seed. And now they're on the cusp, but not even making the tournament. Mississippi State's not good.
Starting point is 00:49:29 It didn't swept there, I think, heard them. But big weekend. I think the game tonight is at 630 for those of you in Lexington. And if you're in Lexington, do me a favor. Go see our friends at KS. Bar this weekend, you know, before the game, after the game, or it's part of your graduation festivities? Did you see this story, Ryan, as you guys are college baseball guys, about what happened at the Washington baseball game last night?
Starting point is 00:49:55 Tell me about it. Washington is in the Big Ten, obviously. They played Azusa Pacific, an NAA school. They were just doing it to get a game on their roster. NAA school. the NIAI school was 11 and 33 this year. So not only were they a bad in, well, not only the NIAI school,
Starting point is 00:50:13 they're a bad NIA school, 11 and 33. Going into the seventh inning, Washington is down five to four. Azusa Pacific is up five four. About to start the seventh inning, mysteriously, all the lights in Washington Stadium went out. Of course they did.
Starting point is 00:50:33 All the lights went out, and it was gone. Washington has a rule in their non-conference games that you have to play seven innings for it to be a game. In conference games, it's only five. Don't know why the rules different. Have to have seven. Lights go out. Washington says there's nothing we can do.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Impossible to turn the lights back on. So they count the game as having not been played. Oh, wow. Seven to four. Didn't count it as a not for, just it was as if it never happened. Azusa Pacific, very upset, said this could have been the best win in the history of our school. Do you think that sounds a little suspect? Yeah, somebody clearly pulled the plug, cut the power so they didn't have to finish that game.
Starting point is 00:51:20 If I'm not in A.I. school, I'm like, you know what, we're going to stay here overnight. We'll wait until tomorrow morning. We're going to finish this game. What are you making that? Yeah, no doubt the manager made a signal out there, cut the lights. But if I'm Azusa Pacific, I'm making T-shirts, lights out, Washington with the score out there. Oh, I like that. Yeah. I'm celebrating that win.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Sounds a little suspect, don't you think? It's like when Trancy was ahead of Kentucky, 11 to 10, they made a poster. And had the scoreboard on there. We didn't cut the lights at that point and finished playing the game. I'm with Shannon. I would have said, we're staying here tomorrow. I'd still be standing at home plate waiting. When you're setting up, I thought it was like a Cowell Ripkin situation. Maybe some Kevin Costner involvement, some...
Starting point is 00:51:58 Yeah. You're telling me they were losing. Someone definitely just stepped up to there and pulled the plug. Hey, to you folks in Owensboro, thank you very much for coming out here today. We really appreciate it. Great crowd. I say this all the time. It's awesome.
Starting point is 00:52:14 It's awesome all the KSR fans. But to sit out here for people who are at home, it's kind of cold, and everybody still set out here at the whole show. It's nice. It's good to get back on the road. I saw that T-shirt from the 2014. We used to do 35 of these every summer. We don't do it as much, but trips like this make me want to do it again. So thank you all very much.
Starting point is 00:52:34 Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. And a big thank you to Mario for picking me up at the airport last night at 11 o'clock at night to make sure I could get to Owensboro this morning. We will see you all on Monday. Have a great Mother's Day weekend. Tell your mothers you love them. Congrats to all the UK graduates. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
