This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:37 This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, May the 12th. There'll be a full moon tonight. Maybe everywhere. Certainly here in Kentucky. You give us a shout on the Clark's Pubpit Shop phone line. That is 859-280-2287. I'm along with Shannon manning the phones here. The A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-774-2524. This is sponsored by the T.J. Smith's office. You call T.J. I'll make them pay. You, it was Mother's Day yesterday.
Starting point is 00:03:15 And I went and saw my mother in Berea. We went to the Boone Tavern. Nice. In Berea. Got to eat. Spoon bread. Spoon bread. Yeah. I like spoon bread.
Starting point is 00:03:27 It's good. They have, you know, when I was a kid, go to the Boone Tavern because my parents really like it. They had a lot of old food. Now it's like regular food, but they have two old things, like a hot brown. Yeah. And they have like a real hot brown. Yes, they do. And then they have something called like chicken in a bread, but chicken in a basket or something like that, which is just chicken with like sticks.
Starting point is 00:03:50 With sticks. Well, that sounds like. It's not, I mean, it's like from the yard? No, it's like fraud. things. Anyway, I ordered it. And it's really good. The fried things work well within the mashed potatoes and green beans. It's like you're eating old school food. And then the spoon bread, which is hard to describe to people who you've never had it. It's like cornbread, but it's mushy kind of, which doesn't sound like it'd be good, but it's really good. Really good. And it was nice to be in
Starting point is 00:04:17 Boone Tavern. You're going back in time, although they're changing the name of the restaurant, apparently, to crafted at Boone Tavern, which I don't know what that's supposed to do. You think more people are going to be like, well, it's crafted. A little rebrand? I think they're rebranded. I mean, it's worked for so many years. I feel like it's worked. I like it. They were churned butter. They were doing all the things they do at Boone Tavern. And that was my mother's day. Sound like a fun one. I'm celebrating with my mother tonight. We're more Monday people. Oh, you know, Monday. What's cheaper? Well, actually, yeah. Well, honestly, I couldn't get a Carson's reservation on Sunday. So I was like, because she's big Carson's fans. I was like, how about Monday?
Starting point is 00:04:50 I like it's cheaper. It's like buying Easter candy, Shannon, right after Easter. It goes on sale. Valentine's Day is perfect. Perfect on the 15th of February. That's right. Drew loves you, but in a 30% discount. Everyone else's mom's good yesterday. I'm just making today all about her. I understand.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Well, but it was good. A fun weekend, Ryan, on Saturday, nothing to do. You know, I don't get a lot of, because I do ESP on Sundays. I don't get a lot of days with nothing to do. Didn't even really have anything on my mind. You know, I got trivia tomorrow night, but I got today and tomorrow to write the trivia. So it was all, this is just going to be, uh, enjoyment. The canes were playing. I was nervous about that. But got up, decided, you know what I'm going to do today? I'm going to walk to Skyline.
Starting point is 00:05:35 From your house in Lexington? Yes. That's not a short walk. So from, just think about it, from Rupp Arena to Skyline out on Richmond Road with a detour to the sauna on next to campus. Did you go to the sauna first? I hope so. Yeah, don't take your post-Skyline. No, I didn't. I didn't post-Skyline. Nobody wants you to a hot gas. Whoa. Yeah, I went to the sign of first, but that made me very sweaty for the rest of the walk. That's the only correct order for those two.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Yeah, that's the correct order. It ended up, you know, when you walk out out on Richmond Road, you know, they don't have sidewalks. We've talked about this before. They don't have sidewalks. So you have to kind of do a little adventure walking there from the Shriners, which is not called the Shriners anymore. No. You know it's called like Easter Seals. Yeah, crafted at the Shiner's.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Crafted at the Shiner's. That's right. Shriners. But went out there, then walked back, saw, you know, people honked at me. Hello. Like, I felt like I was, the KSR people were just kind of honk it as I was walking down the road. They were probably like, why is this man, 6-3 with a hoodie on walking down Richmond Road?
Starting point is 00:06:42 But I did, and it was a wonderful day. Good exercise to get all the Shriners out. See, I think. Excuse me, the skyline out. I don't need to get the Shriders out. That's okay. That's a good example between you and me. I have a Saturday with nothing to do.
Starting point is 00:06:54 I sleep in. naps all day, don't do a thing. You go on a six-mile walk to skyline him back. I think it was more like eight. Was it that long? I think when you consider the detour by campus and stuff. I think I got my steps in, you know? I'd say so. It's got to be three or four each way. I'm with you. That's more like an eight-mile walk. That's more like an eight-mile walk. And you walk by and, you know, all those houses on Fontaine on the way out there and Richmond road on the way back. You kind of get to see how the other half lives. Do you see anyone pushing a dog a stroller down Richmond Road?
Starting point is 00:07:25 I did not. It's interesting to look at some of those houses. You go wonder, okay, who lives back there? There's a house. I don't want to say which one because I don't want to. There's a house on Richmond Road that in theory you would think be a mansion. And I guess somebody just kind of let it dilapidate. Do you know what I'm talking about?
Starting point is 00:07:41 Oh, yeah. And it looks like it should be amazing. And it seems like they're fixing it up. Yes. I'd be fascinated to see what that's going to look like because not very far from Cal's house. Right. It's or a cow's old house. Yeah, I think a lot of those older houses are just kind of,
Starting point is 00:07:54 outdated and people that were in there were older so they didn't do any updating but finally the family gets it and they can make a lot of money flipping those houses I would think so yeah so that was nice and it was it was a good temperature skyline you know Shannon you go to skyline on Saturday night at 6 o'clock you think it'd be crowded but in the middle of summer not as many people have the D in their DNA to go eat Skyline but us true believers Shannon we still do that even if it's hot outside yeah I'm more of a lunch guy for Skyline but you know if you want to do dinner. How do you do lunch at Skylight? Don't you want to go to sleep as soon as it's over?
Starting point is 00:08:28 Yeah. And sometimes I do. I'll take me a 15 minute power nap and then get right back to it. So, well, it was a great weekend. And now we're ready to go for a new week. It is post-graduation. I do need to say something, however, to the city of Lexington. Y'all got to do something about the traffic. Amen. Friday's traffic was, I'm not, it wasn't. It wasn't. Breeders Cup, UK, Tennessee concert night. Remember that? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 That was the worst traffic this city's ever seen. And they considered ending the city's license to be a city. But this one was close. Friday, I nearly committed six to seven assaults. That's the worst traffic I've ever seen. And it was everywhere. You couldn't get around it. No matter where you went, the traffic was, it was awful.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Right. I mean, just absolutely awful everywhere. And it was infuriating all day. Because like, you know, all the families of these people that come in from out of town, they don't really know what to do. And I think that makes it even worse. Yes. You know?
Starting point is 00:09:36 But why, I mean, can I just ask you, why do they schedule graduation during rush hour? I mean, like between. I think it's just they just have them all day. So, I mean, starts early and goes all the way through the night. Is it only on Friday? Because Saturday. Saturday, too. There was Saturday, too.
Starting point is 00:09:54 The one that started at six, and I don't know who those people are. But the one that started at six, it was all out warfare. I mean, there were people with shivs, like stabbing each other because they couldn't get into the turn lanes and people were going to miss their kids' graduation and the people trying to go home. And I ended up in the middle of it. And I have never, Shannon, been so frustrated. I honked and those honks were not nice hunks. They were honk, honk, honk.
Starting point is 00:10:22 I know when you're trying to get out of traffic. I drove on the median. Drove on the median in the grass. I mean, like, it was just brutal. Well, the high school graduations now are in two weeks, and it's just as bad because they're back to back to back to back. So all the people go to the early one, they're leaving when the second one people are coming in.
Starting point is 00:10:40 That's what makes it even worse. It's terrible. You have zero patience. You are the least patient person I've ever known. I would rather lie out without water in the desert than staying in a lot. of any sorts. I hate, hate lines. Literally, I drive around.
Starting point is 00:11:01 If I see a line somewhere, we're not going there. I went to get ice cream Saturday night. There was a line at Graters. I said, you know what? I'll go eat Skyline again. I'm not standing in a line. And the traffic's even worse because you're trapped. You can't get anywhere and I hate it.
Starting point is 00:11:17 Yeah, I'm going to agree with Shannon. I think you're the most impatient person I don't know. You know, sometimes, especially if you're in your car, just turn on a podcast, relax, You're just sitting in a chair. I'd already listen to all the podcasts. You're out of all podcasts? I was out of podcast.
Starting point is 00:11:28 There were no more podcasts. I'd listen to our show a couple times on repeat. I'd listen to all the Bill Simmons's. I mean, I even, you know, I even listened to a Theo Vaughn on the plane. Oh, you were. I was getting bad. Although he kind of makes me laugh now. Even though I think he's a goober, he kind of makes me laugh.
Starting point is 00:11:45 But we're through with it all and now we're here. Well, good for you. Do not at least cause an accident? Not cause a fight. No road rage incident. You know, when there's a big line of traffic, there's always one guy who's got to be the jerk trying to pass everybody. That's Matt. Matt's that guy.
Starting point is 00:12:00 He's the guy that drives all the way to the front and cuts everybody off. First of all, I don't do that. But if I were to do it. Okay. Fier liar, pants on fire. You don't do that, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. If I were to do it, there's some studies that say that's the right thing to do. There are studies.
Starting point is 00:12:17 No, there are. Look it up. There are studies that say the zipper method. The zipper merge is the quick. way for all traffic. I think Shannon's talking about passing, like a turning lane going left. You just going all the way to the end and cutting over. Not so much the zipper merge.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Yeah, that's not zipper merge. That is a modified zipper merge. That's jerk merge. That is a modified zipper merge. I don't think you know. Then, yesterday, I don't know about you all, but I was following Miss Maine 2025 with Bill Belichick's girlfriend. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:51 She came in third. they had the highest attendance for Miss Maine 2025 ever. Shocking. The fact of Bill Belichick was there, sitting in a holiday inn in Portland, Maine is hilarious to me. I mean, do you think, Shannon, he ever thought he would be at Miss Maine at the Holiday Inn? The Holiday Inn Express, not even the full Holiday Inn. The Holiday Inn Express in Portland, Maine. He will do anything she tells them.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Amen. Anything. Yep. Yes. It's sad in the story. this is the part I found the most interesting. There was a new story, like an AP news story about this. It said he was sitting in the crowd, quote, with her 49-year-old dad.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Oh, that would be so weird. Are you kidding me? Dad can't be cool with this. Okay, 49-year-old dad. The dad is only a few years older than me. What is that conversation? He's sitting next to him, so clearly they have a positive relationship. He's probably a fanboy.
Starting point is 00:14:01 I mean, I want you to think about that for a minute. He is sitting next to her 49-year-old dad at the thing. Well, Bill's old enough to be his dad, then that's 24-year age gap there. Yes. Unless he's a huge Pat's fan, maybe he is. In Maine, they love the Patriots. That would just, I couldn't go for that. That'd be so uncomfortable.
Starting point is 00:14:24 And did you see the picture of the winning person and her in the background? I didn't see that. They took a picture. You need to look up the picture. You have the winner. You have the runner up. And then she's standing behind them looking like she's going to murder them. I'm not kidding.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Go look up the picture. Do you see the picture? That stare, first of all, I've had that stare from women before. I know what that stare means. that stare is worth a million dollars. Whoever went and took that picture, they got the picture of a lifetime. They clearly framed it, Shannon,
Starting point is 00:15:03 so she would be in the back of it. And the holiday inn, you know, at least if you stayed there, you get the breakfast the next morning. Continental breakfast. Continental breakfast. Good coffee.
Starting point is 00:15:12 Yes. Well, I also saw a clip of Bill talking to the other contestants when she wasn't around. I think some of the websites are trying to drum it up like he's sitting on him. But what are they talking to Bill about? Like all the,
Starting point is 00:15:23 he's kissing him on the, and saying how to all the contestants. It's like that is just so creepy looking. He was talking to the other contestants. Yeah, I guess whether she's on stage, wherever she was. I mean, I'm sure he was just being nice, but just the thought of like him having conversations with all these 20-year-olds.
Starting point is 00:15:38 It's just so bizarre. I'm very disappointed she didn't win because can you imagine if she would have been in the Miss America Pagent? Biggest media circus ever for the Mims'Imson. It would have been, Shannon, that would have been, that would be primetime television. Oh, yeah. And speaking of must-watch TV this Friday he's going to be on Good Morning America. Did you see this? Bill Belichick and Michael
Starting point is 00:15:58 Strayhan and interview on Good Morning America. Oh, Strayhan, didn't Belichick coach him as a defensive coordinator? Yeah, I believe so. Oh, so wait a minute. Are you serious? So that's this Friday morning. So his former player is going to interview him on Good Morning America. Yeah. I might wake up before 9 o'clock. Will she be there? Oh, yeah. Yeah. She'll be right behind him. Dude. Is she going to tell Michael Strahan when he can and can't say to Bill Belichick? Oh, my goodness. Now you got me. Now we know exactly where what we're doing next Friday. All right. Well, 8-5-9-28027. Couple open lines. You can ask whatever you want. We're going to talk a little UK basketball.
Starting point is 00:16:40 A past and present UK players kind of came together this weekend. It has me excited for the new season. We'll talk about it right for this KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, The internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. Starting point is 00:17:57 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
Starting point is 00:18:16 because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way.

On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports. and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards.
Starting point is 00:19:03 If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel like. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their.
Starting point is 00:19:21 face light up and smile. That means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
Starting point is 00:19:57 He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back to Tech Sports Radio. 859-280-2-807. All right. So, Shannon, I listened to the pre-show a little bit on the drive-in this morning. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:03 And you guys get calls and get people asking questions. And I know part of it is we talk a lot more than you all do. But the calls, especially this summer, have gone down. Now, the listeners haven't. Our listeners are like, I looked at the numbers yesterday. They're better than we've ever had in the spring. So I know there's people listening. So clearly people are scared, Shannon, to call.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Yeah, I think so. Because why do you think that is? Because you're going to cut them off before they can even get to their point? All right, so what if I do this? What if I promise from now through Thursday, I won't cut people off? Wow. Well, not that I won't cut people off. Four days of no coming.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Not that I won't cut people off, but I will let them make their point. Okay. Before they, I cut them off. Even Bob and Jamestown? No, besides him. I feel like you've got better at it though, really? I do too, but I feel like I'm scared like I feel like I'm scaring people off because you like you, you guys on the pre-show get calls. Right.
Starting point is 00:22:06 We get some but not as many and I think it's because that has to be it, right? It has to be because A, they have to wait a while and B because I cut them off. So what if I promise to for the next four days try to be. better about it. Try to be better. Wow. Not going to no, I'm going to be better. I'm going to be better. I mean, the fans out there can judge whether or not I'm doing a good job. We'll try to
Starting point is 00:22:32 hold you accountable as we go. You all can hold me accountable too. If you think I'm not being patient enough, you all can call me out four days of no Ryan's looking like completely dumbfounded right now. If you prematurely
Starting point is 00:22:48 appreciate the call, I won't hang up on them. If I have a premature, a call you collulation. Okay. A premature accolulation, then you can call me out on it. What if Shannon just mute your mic while there's a caller? No, no, no, no. Shannon can't cheat.
Starting point is 00:23:04 You can't cheat. 859-280-2-807. So go ahead. We already have one person ready to go in a minute. I will, I'm going to, at least try to temporarily let you make your point. To be fair to you, a lot of people, I think don't call anymore because they do have to wait so long sometimes. I understand, but I'm going to make them try to make them wait less.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Okay. Because I see how long they've been waiting. Yeah. I'll try to make them wait less. We'll see. I'm not saying this is a permanent change. Four days. We'll make it to tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:23:33 We'll make it four days and we'll see what's happened. The name of the thing, Drew, is chickens in a bird's nest. Chickens in a bird's nest. That's what they serve. That's what they serve in Bereage. I like your description better. Chicken on sticks. Well, the nest is the sticks.
Starting point is 00:23:50 Do you see what I'm saying? Sure. Sounds like you're very excited about it. One person writes, Matt, I'm a commercial truck driver. You're right about the zipper merge. It's the best thing. But the problem is there are people who don't want people to pass them and they get arrogant about it and that causes a problem.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Ryan, I suggest you're one of those. I've seen you do it. You don't like people cutting ahead of you. I've even kind of drifted over in the left lane to kind of block people from passing everybody a couple times. Oh, because you don't want to have anyone even one second ahead of it. Yeah. So they'll even go out.
Starting point is 00:24:22 in the grass and just a pass. I have strong thoughts on this zipper merge. I think it's complete BS. I know that they say that there's, you know, it shows that it actually works and helps the flow of traffic. Try doing that when you're in line for food. Try doing that when you're in line for tickets.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Try zipperm urging in real life and see if you don't get punched in the face. Yeah, well, there's a difference between being punched in the face and it being more efficient, though. But I'm just saying, if you got in line and there's a long line and then somebody came up to the side of go, oh, I'm just going to merge into here so I can get my tickets first. The only way that works in real life is in a car. That's it. No, that's a fair point.
Starting point is 00:24:59 It really only works in a car. But I do think it works. And I enjoy being the one that does it. Zipmerge on an off ramp coming in. Like if the ramp is backed up, the zipper merge, I think, is the way to go. But when it's road construction and the line is backed up for a mile, you can't pass everybody go up to the front. You can do it.
Starting point is 00:25:18 You can do it every want. It's just people may or may not like it. My mom is saying to try to do the non-cutting off. I think she thinks that now I'm cut. So we'll see. I got Ralph on here. We'll get started. Ralph's the rookie debut.
Starting point is 00:25:32 All right, 859-280-2287. Go ahead, Ralph. Hello. Hello, Ralph. Go ahead. Hey, listen, I'm not sure where Ralph came from. My name is Patriot Papaw. And I would like to address the Belisic biased.
Starting point is 00:25:53 I would like to address the Belichick bias on the KSR. You know, Belichick, man, he's getting a bad rap. So you should have cut him off. All right, I mean, what does that mean? He's getting a bad rap. I mean, the thing is what it is, right? Well, it is, but I mean, somebody's got to stand up for the guy. He's living his best life.
Starting point is 00:26:22 He's, you know, in his senior years, He's coaching a college team. He's dating a college-age girl. And it doesn't seem to bother him. It just seems to bother everybody else. And if somebody who's in a relationship with a younger individual, you know, I don't understand to some extent. But, you know, somebody's got to say, you don't feel good for you. All right.
Starting point is 00:26:47 I'm sorry? No, I got you. I appreciate the call. My issue is not with his relationship. He can day whoever he wants. my funny is the is the hilarity of seeing this dude who used to be the most powerful you know like nobody can mess with me guy be sort of led around they could date who he ever he wants i don't care but it's the it's the i mean this was a guy who had no time to ever be led around by anybody who now is completely taken over that's what's
Starting point is 00:27:17 entertaining to me about it there are probably a lot of uh guys especially closer to his age that would pat him on the back for who he's dating. But it's the running a football program. Yeah, but it's the running a football program and having her cede on all the emails and on the sideline that makes it a little bizarre for a guy that was pretty stubborn and might be one of the best, or could be the best coach of all time. It's just odd. Do you think Patriot Papal Shannon voted for Biden?
Starting point is 00:27:43 Probably so, right? Yeah, I would say so. No chance. Highly likely. Do you think there's anyone who puts Patriot in their name that then also, voted for Biden. Do you think there's anybody who's like, I'm a patriot, voted for Harris? Probably not. Probably not. What do you think the age gap? He said he dates someone younger. How old do you think Magamemaw is or whatever is his love interest is?
Starting point is 00:28:08 Magamemaw is a good name. Todd. Go ahead, Todd. Morning, guys. How are you all? Good. What's up? Got two questions. One, did you all see Calipari and his partial mullet in that video online yesterday? I did. Is that from this year? Because the mullet was not what was more most entertaining to me. It was his beard. I'd never seen him with a beard. Is that from this year?
Starting point is 00:28:34 That was recent. And I remember seeing him in a beard when he did his New Jersey vacation trip a couple years ago. Okay. I think it's a lot of the deal. And then what's second? My more important question is, with the athletic department going to the LLC,
Starting point is 00:28:50 do you foresee any impact on ticket prices coming from that. As a season ticket holder, I'm a little concerned. Of course. Actually, let's talk about that in a minute. Because I had this conversation last night. I see a bunch of changes coming when it comes to that stuff. But we'll take a break. So that was an old thing. He doesn't have a beard. He was just at the Thunder game a couple nights ago with a clean face and short hair. Okay, we'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Sports Radio 859-2-80-2287. Text machine 772-7-7-4-1-person writes, Matt. I have worked on these studies about, see, this is the great thing about this, right? People have worked on the zipper merge study. I want to hear the result. And the reason the line is so long is because people don't zipper merge. I don't know that that makes sense to me. I don't think it does either, actually. Because, I mean, you're cutting other people. But it wouldn't be as long because you'd be using two lines, but it's still probably the same amount of cars.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Yeah, and if I'm that line that's getting cut, my line just got longer because people keep cutting in front of me. I think that's right. The Patriot Papaw says, to answer Drew's question, I'm 56. My wife is 23 and we just had a six-month-old. Well, there you go. Congratulations. You know, Patriot Papua, I'm Bill Billi-Billichick and, you know, do double birds in the air to a lot of people. But the fact that he...
Starting point is 00:30:25 What were those words that just came out of your mouth? Double birds in the air. Oh, you mean they flip people off? Yeah. Yeah. It's the other side of it that I think, for me, she's making Billichick seem like he's incompetent and incapable of making decisions. I think that was, I think people are jumping to a conclusion on that.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Like, he's still coaching his football team. Yeah. So I think he's probably, probably fine. All right, to answer that guy's question, do I think ticket prices are going to go up? Yes, I don't know how they cannot. They have added $22 million to their budget. $22 million to the UK budget. And that money is, they have to pay it, right?
Starting point is 00:31:06 Here's, they got to find a way to make the $22 million. So how are you going to do it? One, the TV deals for each of these schools are going up. And they're going up by about $8 to $10 million. So let's just do the math. That means of the $22 million, 8 to $10 is going to come from the new TV deals. So now we're still looking at $12 to $14 million that we got to find.
Starting point is 00:31:26 Number two, there's no doubt ticket prices, K club. It's going to go up. How can it not? It has to. There's just no way it can. Longer term. I think coaches are not going to make as much money. I think the era of coaches signing these crazy mega deals,
Starting point is 00:31:44 you're going to have to be a multiple national championship winner to get mega deals. I think the days have seen, you know, an assistant coach making $2 million a year. I just think they're going away. I don't think they can do that anymore. I think the market is going to come down. I think they're going to add games in basketball. I think this is a big one. I think we're going to move from 31 to probably 35 games in the next five years.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Because again, how do you make money? You've got to have more inventory. And football, I don't think they can make anymore. They're going to expand the playoff. Why are they doing that? Money. And then they're going to have to add other games. I don't know how you can do it.
Starting point is 00:32:24 Why are we playing Purdue in the exhibition, in part, to make that an event where they can make money? Sure. Right? I think you saw Val pose the other game. Probably the days of us playing the trancey of the world rind for better or worse are probably over. Maybe over now. They may be over. So, but there's no way the math does not math unless they raise ticket prices.
Starting point is 00:32:47 The other thing is, I think the days of us building state-of-the-art facilities every 10 years are gone. Right? Yeah. They're just going to have to say, let's make it work. The days of the recruiting game being who can build the nicest thing, I think, are gone. Because there's no way you can add $22 million of cost a year and not make it up somewhere else. So I just think a lot of the stuff that kind of got out of control in the last 10 years on the coaches, facilities, et cetera, side is about to change on the other side. and I think you're going to start seeing that stuff come down,
Starting point is 00:33:24 which is probably honestly how it should be. There was never a reason for John Cal Perry to make $10 million and John Wall to make nothing. Now in the future, the future John Calperies will make seven and John Wall will make three. And why is that bad? It's not. It shouldn't be bad.
Starting point is 00:33:42 It shouldn't be bad. John Cal Perry, when he was in here, but he deserved $10 million in the players, nothing? No. No. And I think that's where we're. head. I think we're headed for the more games you mentioned, too, in college basketball.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Mark Pope has even spoken about that. He's a big proponent for it. Which I'm four. He said, I think maybe at the NCAA tournament or sometime back in March, he said he's ready for a 40 game schedule, so I think it's heading in that direction quickly. And he is smart and he didn't, when I heard him say that, I thought to myself, well, that means something like that's
Starting point is 00:34:11 coming. I want to ask you, you know, you mentioned it, is there a possibility where some schools will have to eliminate sports. Yes. In programs. Sports are getting eliminated. That's happening. Now, I don't think it'll be a ton of sports, but there will, like, there's one sport at Kentucky. I'm not going to say what it is because I don't want to, like,
Starting point is 00:34:29 I don't want it to get aggregated as a story of Matt Jones's sports going away. But there's a sport that's at UK that I, if I had to bet, won't exist here in two years. Yeah. And I hate it for those people. But it's, again, do you believe in capitalism? If you do, then the successful has to, like, there's a subsidizing here. at some point that happens with these other sports, and it's just not going to keep happening.
Starting point is 00:34:56 So I believe these players that make the school money deserve money. I do believe that. I also think, though, you're naive if you don't think that will have ramifications on the sports that don't make the school money. It just will. And that's life. And I wish sometimes life wasn't like that, but that's what life is, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:19 And so college sports is just becoming life. We've lived in a fantasy socialist college sports land. What's always been fascinating to me is college sports is in many ways socialism. And people who love capitalism have loved socialism when it comes to college sports. And people who love socialism have wanted capitalism in college sports. And now we're getting it. college sports is just aligning with the rest of life now, which is the money talks,
Starting point is 00:35:54 and that's what happens. It's a business. If the business costs go up, the consumer gets to pay more. That's what it is now. And we just need to act like it. You know, we used to only play like three or four basketball games in December
Starting point is 00:36:06 because, quote, they're out of class and people need to go home for Christmas break. That's a business. Matter of fact, you could argue the kids should play more during Christmas break because they don't have class. True. Take advantage of the people that are in town that never get to go to a game. And that's what's going to happen. All of a sudden in December, rather than only playing on Saturdays, they're going to play Saturdays and midweek.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Yeah. That's probably where the other games will come from. If you're a business guy and you got a business model where part of your business is making a lot of money, the other part is not. You're going to eliminate that and invest more than the one that's making you money. And that's what we're going to see. Gary and Orlando. Go ahead, Gary. Hello? Yes. All right. Thank you. Yes, sir. Thanks for. taking my call. I don't know if you saw it, but Ryan McGee said he posted a picture of
Starting point is 00:36:58 Belichick's girlfriend, and he put in a picture, Err Jordan, and it did not go all the well in the Carolinas. He mentioned on his show Saturday. And secondly, I used to date a girl that I was older than her dad, and finally she got me to go have dinner with her parents, and we're on our way over, and she said, how do you think this is going to go? And I said, well, it's going to go okay as long as he calls me, sir. You guys have a great day. All right. Who knew?
Starting point is 00:37:29 Gary Orlando's got jokes. Who knew we had so many dudes? You know, Patriot Papal was one. I didn't expect Gary on Orlando to have a story either. Next, Bob is going to tell us. No, Bob, I don't want to know about Bob's. We are two for two. So I guess if Bill's sitting by Jordan's dad, Jordan's dad's dad,
Starting point is 00:37:51 Jordan's dad's like, okay, I don't have to worry about grandkids, right? Okay, and you need to make no jokes because I do not trust your filter. I trust Drew's, kind of trust Shannon's. I don't even trust mine. I do not ever trust yours. There are certain topics that you need to mentally say I am not going to make jokes on because I don't know filters. No filter. I love on Friday, you said tell the story without using this person's name and he described the
Starting point is 00:38:20 celebrity to a team. Who was in movies? The most famous. Never said her name. Nope. Mike. Go ahead, Mike. All right, man.
Starting point is 00:38:34 I'm going to need Ryan's help to keep you from cutting me off here about the zipper murder now. All right. Go for it. Okay. I've been driving truck for 27 years first. So I'm qualified. All right.
Starting point is 00:38:45 If you see a sign that says right lane, close two miles and you get over, then nobody ever stops this. zipper merge causes the dang traffic jam. And that truck driver that rode in and said that it was the right way, I don't know what's wrong with him. He must be one of shorty short flip-flop wearing guy. I take offense to that. All right, shorty-so.
Starting point is 00:39:09 Okay, but so you're saying to me, if no one zipper merged, there'd be no traffic at all. But then even in your... But in your scenario... But in your scenario, when you... you get that two mile warning, if there are two lanes of traffic, they're still going to have to merge over. So the zipper is just farther back. No, merges before it closes.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Yes, but, okay, so let's just assume, sir, there are multiple, let's assume there's a lot of traffic, right, on a two lane interstate. And all of a sudden these signs come up. People are going to have to merge. And at some point, they're going to- the traffic backs up. It causes the traffic jam. And the reason it causes a traffic jam is because the trucks cannot take off fast because they're heavy. And every a-ho in a
Starting point is 00:40:01 car cuts them off. Okay, that's a good point about the trucks not being able to take off. Because to be honest with you, sir, that's what I'd use. I see a truck and I go, this is where I can say. Because I know, I know they can't. Yeah. So I appreciate the call. He's right about that.
Starting point is 00:40:17 When I'm trying to figure out how to get over, I look for a truck because I know they can't. You know they have a weakness. They can't get a... Exactly. I know that that's the exploit. That's the part to exploit is the truck. I've always wondered how truck drivers felt about that.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Well, they don't feel good as seen by that. I think cornbreaddhip.com, when the truck driver gets home, he probably needs to rest. Go to cornbreadhip.com promo code KSR. Full Spectrum Flower only hemp CD, and now the breeze drinks, they're taking over. We're going to have some soon at the bar with the peach iced tea, the blueberry breeze, all that. Starting point is 00:45:17 859-2-8027. Text machine 772-745254. What person writes, Matt, John Wall may not have made $3 million while at UK, but he earned $275 million in his NBA career. So the wo-is-me mentality of cow-making $10 million is weak at best. No, that argument is weak at best. Because John Wall, the $275 million,
Starting point is 00:45:40 was for what he did in the NBA. But what about what he did here? how many jerseys were sold with the number 10 on them? There are still a ton of number 10 jerseys from when he's hit. 11. Same thing. There are 10 and 11 jerseys. And they're all because of John Wals.
Starting point is 00:45:57 No, but I'm serious. How many jerseys were sold? Everywhere. How much excitement was generated in UK basketball because of him? Yeah. And I'll just say, let's say you're a plumber. And you go, you know what? I'm not going to pay you for year one of your plumbing.
Starting point is 00:46:13 because one day you're going to make a lot plumbing. That sounds ridiculous. Plus, like take somebody like Tim Tebow. Tim Tebow is the perfect example. He never made a lot of money in the NFL. But don't you think he made Florida a lot of money? Of course he did. And we didn't take the guys on our team last year.
Starting point is 00:46:35 I mean, those guys, none of them may play in the NBA. But did they not make this city and this, you know, university, a ton of them? money. You either believe people should be paid what they're worth or you don't. And if you do, in America, we say you do. And so I think this is just like, and whether you agree with that or not, it's happening. It's the law. I will remind people, it was 9-0 in the Supreme Court. Samuel Alito, who is Patriot Papal, and Sonia Sotomayor, who is woke AOC agree on almost nothing.
Starting point is 00:47:18 But they agreed on that. Agreed on that. So, you know, it is what it is. Is John Wall the guy that would have benefited the most? Tim Tebow. I mean, at Kentucky. At Kentucky? Well, John Wall was also really good.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Right? I think a better example are dudes. Jared Lorenzen's a great example. Yes. Jared Lorenzen's a great example of how not having NIL kind of screws a person. Because he never made a ton of money in the NFL. But he'd have made a ton of money here.
Starting point is 00:47:44 Or a guy, Richie Farmer, who didn't have a pro career. Cash Daniel. Yes, another one. Another example. You know, a guy who was beloved for Oscar. Yeah. Right? Oscar, I don't know if he'll make a ton of money in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:47:59 But he had a lot of money here. And he did actually make some money here. So those to me are the examples. I have a question before I go to the phone about the Pope's brother. Yeah. Shannon, the Pope's brother's doing a lot of interviews. Yep. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:12 All right. Pope's brother's doing a lot of interviews. Every time you turn on the TV, Pope's brother's talking to somebody. Question number one. Do you think the Pope's brother should just lay off the interviews a little bit? It feels like he's kind of like I'm kind of brother Pope. But this is about the Pope.
Starting point is 00:48:30 It is. But he's like telling us a lot about his brother. His brother may not want all this out there, right? Yeah. We want the Pope to be sort of private. Mysterious. Like, holy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:40 Secondly, if you're the brother of the Pope? Do you call him Pope? Father? Brother? Or Bob? He said, I'm going to call him Bob. He said that in the interview because I'm still going to call him Bob. Is that okay? If you're a Catholic and you believe the Pope is like
Starting point is 00:48:57 God's spokesman on earth, can you call him Bob? Absolutely. He's still, I forgot which one's older? Especially if it's the little brother. Oh, okay. I don't know which one's older. Did you see he said I used to give him nuggies? I think he should still give him a nuggie. I think he should go to the Vatican and give him a nougie. Can you still pick on your little brother if he's a pope?
Starting point is 00:49:16 Yes, that never ends. He got, nobody can call him Bob, but the brother. Bob's the only one. All right. What if, what if, Ryan, what if Dante became Pope? All right. You're going to start calling him Pope or you're going to call him Dante? Okay, if we're going to be real, like in public, I would probably call him Pope. But we're at the house grilling out burgers. Hey, Dante, put some more mustard on there or something. Oh, you're going to tell him what to do. Yeah. Order the Pope around. Yes. If we're back in our private of Holmes? Give me another beer, Pope. Give me another beer, Dante. That's not very Popely. I know. I don't know. I think it would be hard. If you, if you, uh, if, if, if the Pope is
Starting point is 00:49:54 your, your friend, like you were just hanging out. They went to some pizza place in Chicago. So this is the Pope's favorite pizza place. This is where the Pope's sat last time he was here. Okay. If you're a customer, let's say it was our biggest customer at KS Bar. He becomes Pope. All right. I've been calling him Bob every time. Do I, next time he comes in, I have to say Pope? I think you do. You got to give a little respect. Okay. All right. Now, if he's a close personal friend or a family member, like Big Brother can say, that's still Bob to me.
Starting point is 00:50:19 It's Bob. Bob the Pope. Bob the Pope. All right. Sue, go ahead, Sue. Hey, guys. What's going on? I have a couple things.
Starting point is 00:50:27 I have a couple things this morning. When you talked about, when you was at your fellowship, you talked about Oschwitz and Hitler, I just wanted maybe during the dead season that you could go into a little more detail about some of that stuff. You mean, well, I didn't go to Auschwitz, but we talked about like some, some, you know, the steps that led along the way to it happening. Is that what you mean? Yeah, yeah. It's just, you know, some history on that, you know, because I would like to hear. Yeah, that might be something I do on my new show, the new podcast and show I'm going to be doing, which I'll talk about a little bit later, because that would be, it's kind of a longer form conversation. But, yeah, Sue, we'll talk about that at some point. Maybe not here, but on that.
Starting point is 00:51:13 How's that? All right. And I have another thing. I like to. Go for it. I was looking at KSR this morning, and I was reading about Aaron and Andrew Harrison talking about, you know, when they played in TBT last year and all the love that they felt from BBN. My eyes started watering a little bit on that because it was just so touching that how they appreciate us so much.
Starting point is 00:51:40 I love that story And Sue, nice to talk to you. I appreciate the call. I love that story for two reasons. Well, what do we got? We got a minute here. Okay, so the Harrison twins, I think, had a tough experience here, especially Andrew. I think the fans were hard on them.
Starting point is 00:51:57 And I wondered if they would have a connection to this school. I love that story because they said when they returned, they felt that love. Don't think they felt the love when they were here. I think sometimes it was hard for them. Yeah. Because the first year they struggled. Then when they came back, there were people who were like, play Booker and Ulyss. And to see them feel that now, I think is awesome.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Because I like those two guys a lot. And I think they liked it here, but I think they always felt like there were people who were like, why couldn't Tyler Ulyss and Booker play? And to see them 10 years later get that love and feel it, that really made me happy, Drew. I was really glad to see that. Yeah, and they said they watched more Kentucky basketball last year than ever. That's awesome. That's what we want.
Starting point is 00:52:41 That's exactly what we want. We'll take a break. Come back. Hour number two. It's KSR. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
