This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Starting point is 00:02:37 Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday or Thursday, May the 15th. I'm Matt Jones here in Louisville, Kentucky. I'm in studio. Shannon is across the hall. Ryan and Drew are in Lexington. You give shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. It is Ask Anything Thursday.
Starting point is 00:02:56 You can ask anything you want. This is my last day of not interrupt. Shannon. And so this is the day. This is the day that puts it to a test, though. 859-280, 2287. I'm also looking at the phone. So I'll be able to pick here on Ask Anything Thursday. Hope to get some good questions. The Clark's Publish Shop phone line. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-745254. And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. You call T.J. I'll make them pay. I am told right now, Shannon, that the WLAP stream is down. Yeah. Which once again, how does this always happen to us?
Starting point is 00:03:40 I still don't get it. I do not understand how in 2025 things break always with us. We had the show the other day in this 790 station in Louisville, just in the middle of it, just switched to Dan Patrick in the middle of the show. Who's trying to listen to Dan Patrick? come on. Dan Patrick's not even on in Louisville. And so they just picked a random show in America and said we'll play
Starting point is 00:04:02 that instead of Matt. Well, the good thing is, nose whistle 790am.com is still working. What is the actual website? That's the way I know it. I mean, 790 KRD, but the one that I know it works, nose whistle 790am.com slasher. I'm being 100% serious. You're telling me if you put in nosewistle 790.
Starting point is 00:04:22 790am.m. No way. Who did that? Let's just say our bosses have a good sense of humor. It redirects to it. It does. Are you serious? Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:33 I've been using this link for two years. No Swistle 790am.com works. Yes. Stop it. That's actually a funny joke. Who did that? Here, I'll just, Shannon the dude probably. He didn't laugh.
Starting point is 00:04:49 He did it. You did that. Yes, it does work. What a jerk you are. That's hilarious. That is so rude. Wow. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Nose Whistle 790 a.m.com. I'd never heard that until right this second. All right. There you go. Clark's Function Shop phone line, 859, 280, 2287. Drew, tweet that out so people can find the show if they need to. Ryan, here in downtown Louisville, last, I'm going to start the show with the controversy. opinion. And I've expressed this opinion before, but I feel it more strongly now than I think
Starting point is 00:05:35 I ever have. Last night, I came to downtown Louisville. I was meeting some people for dinner. And I guess it was graduation night here in Louisville, right, for some schools. All right. People everywhere, you know, as my mom would say, kind of amongst them, right? They're everywhere. And everybody is proud. And they're. happy and I'm proud for them and I'm happy, right? Congratulations to all the people graduating from the high schools here in Louisville. I think they had it in the little convention center here next door. But it looked to me like there was also a like kids graduation. You know what I mean? Like kindergartners or fifth graders or whatever. These kids in their in their robes.
Starting point is 00:06:22 and I am even more adamant than I've ever been, that when we do graduations for children, that should be illegal. There should only be, you should be able to have high school graduation and college graduation, but graduations for kindergarten and fifth grade, to me, Ryan, are the stupidest things I've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And as I saw those kids, and you know, I'm not anti-kid. I think they should exist, Drew. But as I saw those kids walking around in their robes, I thought this is so dumb. First of all, the traffic's bad. And secondly, why do we do that for children? Eighth grade, still pushing it, but whatever. But when they have these little kid graduations, I think it's the stupidest thing.
Starting point is 00:07:11 But you're not proud of their accomplishments? I mean, they probably learned cursive. What did they? They had to eat chalk. That's what they do with. Kindergarteners, they don't accomplish anything. I think you should be the superintendent of Jefferson County Public Schools with this take. Well, I had a friend who was on the school board.
Starting point is 00:07:30 I ain't doing that. I know what that's now, what that's like. But Drew, is that not the stupidest thing to have? Are you for graduation for kindergartners? I'm not going to say it gets under my skin like I'm feeling from you here, but it does seem a little over the top. It also diminishes all the other graduate. When it's just every year you get to have a graduation.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Exactly. Make them work hard all the way until the very, end and then have the big one. Now I'm not trying to get rid of children or I'm not going to be out yelling at cars or anything. I was yelling at some cars yesterday. People need to learn to park and they need to learn. It does seem over the top though. Louisville, Shannon, because these one-way streets, like when if you don't understand downtown Louisville with these one-way streets, you're going to screw everything up. And I'm fine with it for high school because these kids like this is a big moment in their life. For a lot of them, this might be the last time they have
Starting point is 00:08:19 something like this. But for kindergartners to see those little kids, you know, waddling around in their stupid robes. It's a big moment, though. They learned colors. They learned their letters. Do they still do the letter people in kindergarten? That was a big, big thing. What does that mean?
Starting point is 00:08:35 The letter people. I don't know what that means. Well, like, each day you would have a different letter, and then each letter had its own song, its own theme song. There was Mr. M with the munching mouth. There was, you don't know the letter people? No, no, no. Give me an example. Like, sing me one of the letter songs.
Starting point is 00:08:52 I remember Mr. M. He would go like, Mr. M. Mb, Bump, B, Bump, with the munching mouth, bump, Bum, his mouth goes munch, munch, munch. His mouth goes munch, munch, munch, munch. What is happening. Midnight to morning, Mr. Mb, bount, with the munchy mouth. That's it. I'm telling you, I'll play it. I'll still remember that. I still remember that. So you're saying you learned that in kindergarten. Yes. And you still remember. Still remember the song. So did they have one for every letter? Every letter had a different song. And each day you did it you learned your letters in kindergarten. Wow. Shannon. First of all, that's much more impressive than those stupid kids I saw graduating yesterday. Well, you got to play those.
Starting point is 00:09:33 How about you play those coming into the breaks? We're going to learn some of these letters songs. Yeah. Had you ever heard this, Ryan? I'd never heard these songs. No, I'd be something special in Bullitt County, I guess. Come on. I've never heard.
Starting point is 00:09:44 That's the first time I've ever heard that in my life. I mean, this was a big thing in like the 70s and 80s. So there, and there was 20, six or whatever of them. Yeah. Wow. So you don't even know how many letters in there. You need to go back to kindergarten.
Starting point is 00:09:57 Maybe so. Was that wrong? Is it not 26? No, it is. Okay. All right. You just didn't sound confident when you said it. Well, I wasn't confident.
Starting point is 00:10:04 I thought there could be 27, maybe even 28. I want to tell you something's going to make even more frustrated about this. Okay. Not only do they have kindergarten graduations. They're now doing preschool graduations. That's ridiculous. I mean, that's ridiculous. Prec-s.
Starting point is 00:10:17 I mean, all you have to do the past preschool is breathe, right? Like, you don't even have to. Try not to pee on yourself. Here's the thing. That won't even get you out of preschool, I don't think. Drew, this is clearly for the parents, right? The parents want to make a big show of everything. I'm going to even go so far as to say, I bet the kids don't like it.
Starting point is 00:10:40 I bet the parents don't like it. When I was a kid, I didn't want to wear itchy clothes. And these kids, they make them dress up. And then most importantly, they clog up the traffic in downtown Louisville. and Drew, I'm completely against it. High school, I think you should make the biggest scene of it possible. College, make your scene. But in these elementary grades, absolutely ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:11:04 Do you know the root of the problem? I have a theory. Facebook and Instagram. They want attention of their kids, pictures, and their gown. Yes. Have your party at home with family. That's how it was forever. Until we got social media, everybody needs a reason to have more pictures to post
Starting point is 00:11:19 and say, look at my kid. he didn't pee on himself in kindergarten and he finished and he's moving on to first show. There's nothing worse, Shannon. Attention. Attention attention attention. I agree. There's nothing worse than on like, when I go on Facebook now, it's only people's kids. And it'll be like, can you believe he's eight. Yes, I can. You know why you had him eight years ago. The other thing is nobody cares, but you. No one cares. And grandma. No one cares. That's exactly right. Just text it to grandma. Yeah. It's like that one time, um, uh, uh, at KSR, T.J. Beisner, who now works with Bill Belichick and Jordan Hudson, which I thought of it.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Yeah. T.J. Beisner, somebody was mouthing off to him on Twitter, and the guy only had two followers. And T.J. responded with a great line. Drew, remember we were on one of our road trips. And T.J. just responded, you have two followers. Just text them. And I thought that was a great line. Same thing about pictures of eighth graders. Just send them to Grandma because no one else, Ryan, really cares. no Drew's right it's all just the social media look at me me me look at my kids look
Starting point is 00:12:26 what they're look how cute they are I would be the type of parent that would do that though wouldn't you wouldn't you tweet out like you know I was not around when you had little kids but I bet you put out every picture right look at look at Josiah he's nine oh my what can you believe it probably it is different when it's your kids like I don't want to put stuff out about myself, but I want to put stuff out about my kids. But why, you know. I don't know. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:12:53 And I say this respectfully to people's kids. I'm not even friends with their kids. So like you're making me look at, I mean, nobody will say this. But Shannon, I know you'll agree with me. Yeah. You know, until the kid has a personality, what is there even to say to him? Well, I mean, I think the kid has a personality at the age of six. But do you have friendship?
Starting point is 00:13:18 with your friend's kids? No, but I acknowledge them. I mean, I've started to as they've gotten. I've gotten older. Right? Because now I feel like I can interact with them. But when they were like three or four, you just kind of look at them and go, Hey, kid.
Starting point is 00:13:37 You can only imagine how mad people are getting on the other one. If you ever have a kid, this is going to be the greatest stretch of radio. If I have a kid, I am not going to, I can guarantee you. will not post. Look how old my kid is. Can you believe he's six or whatever? But you'll be posting proud Papa moments. Especially if it's a cute little girl. Matt's going to be so proud of his little girl. When they graduate high school. You'll see them when they're born, Shannon, and when they graduate high school. Okay. So there'll be 18 years of nothing.
Starting point is 00:14:06 And if at the grade I'm on, I may not even be alive when they graduate high school. That's all right. Mick Jagger's still doing it. You can do it too. Anyway, they at least should learn how to get through the traffic because it was a circus. here in this town. And you know, they run, they make them back to back. So people are leaving and getting there. And, you know, the city of Louisville with the one-way streets, it just freaks people out. They were turning the wrong way. It was a circus down here last night. It's two weeks from today in Lexington. Just a heads-up warning. Don't come to downtown. But Lexington only has so many roads you can go on. You know, Louisville, Shannon's got tons of one-way streets. And sometimes it's
Starting point is 00:14:44 two or one-ways in the same direction back to back, right? They don't alternate. Yeah, you got to pay attention. You got to know. It's very easy to go down the wrong way. You're exactly. It is very easy in Louisville to go down the wrong way. And a lot of people were doing it for kindergartners in their in their rogues. You want to, you want to know what, how much of a change of turning of the page I have for this new like not interrupting week, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:15:11 What's that? Let's start with Bob and James town. Whoa. Right now? Yes. All right. First segment? First segment.
Starting point is 00:15:16 I never take calls in the first segment. First segment. Oh, my gosh. Go for it. Matt, my mother was so proud when I led the band in Mrs. Bailey's kindergarten crash at Anchorage Public School. I mean, cap and gown, full dress. She was so, I still got a picture of it. 1959.
Starting point is 00:15:37 See, Shannon, letting him go. There's no way they had kindergarten graduation back then. I don't believe that, Bob. They didn't have kindergarten graduations in 1959. That didn't happen. Anchorage Public School. I mean, it was one of the best schools in the state. It was one of the best kindergartens in the state.
Starting point is 00:15:55 They had kindergarten rankings in 1959. They still have their original 1911 building there is. I think they need to update their facilities. Who? No, fine. It's great. Who ranked kindergartens in 1959, Bob? Was that U.S. News and World Report?
Starting point is 00:16:16 State Board of Education. What did they rank? them based on. The Board of Education. What did they rank them based on? All kind of scholastic averages, the classroom of the subjects, attendance. Attendance. Just showing up. That's why you don't have it. Well, Bob, that's the shortest I've ever made you wait. So, happy birthday. Okay. No, that was back in March. Anyway, have a good day, Matt. Bye, bye, bye. There you go. 859-2-80-2287. I'm so proud of you right.
Starting point is 00:16:50 now, though. I'm very rarely surprised Shannon, and that was one of you were very surprised I did that right there. We will take a break. It's Ask Anything Thursday. I can't wait to see the text machine with all the moms. This is KSA. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:17:05 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. Starting point is 00:18:00 And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:18:39 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast. Learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the hard way and listen now.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin,
Starting point is 00:19:14 and rising hockey star, Laila Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.
Starting point is 00:19:31 The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like, being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
Starting point is 00:19:51 It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapulted Jacob into an
Starting point is 00:20:18 extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant, this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:20:48 is somebody coming after me. Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. There you go. Wow. Wow. I've never heard this in my life.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Me neither. Never heard it. I had no idea that was the thing. I'm getting a lot of people on the Twitter machine that have heard it, though. That's amazing. You know, I like this show because it teaches me stuff. We learned about Joe Creason's book, which now sits on my coffee table. That's a great book because it has like, Ryan, each story is like a page so you can like just kind of come to it, leave, come to it and leave, that kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:21:38 And now I want to read it. Yes. Yeah, it's actually a great book for you, right? It's in those little short bursts. Yeah, I need you have a little recap on each county. Like somebody else did not too long ago, I love that kind of stuff. Yeah, it's like Alan Cutler's book if it wasn't just about Alan Cutler, like his. was.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Cut to the chase. Yes, it was cut to the color. Not surprisingly drew some people not agreeing with me on the comments. I wondered if WLAP pulled the plug knowing what was to come. I mean, I'm just saying one person writes, Matt, I don't really believe you should talk about kids. You don't have them so you don't understand. When I hear people say this, my answer is this. do you feel that way about other things?
Starting point is 00:22:26 Right? If you do, then I'm fair. But do you think, you know what? I can't talk about politics because I've never done it. I can't talk about medicine because I've never done it. If you feel that way, then fair. But people, but Ryan, we always say, I always say this. People act like kids or something.
Starting point is 00:22:46 It's impossible to comprehend unless you have, but then they have an opinion on everything else. why is that different? It's something about just being proud of them or something about you seeing them grow. And you should be proud of them. Yeah. But,
Starting point is 00:23:01 but Shannon, they can be proud of them just with themselves. Yeah. Why do they have to show it to you? And if we're only talking about things we know, I mean, we never played NFL or NBA. We all have opinions on that.
Starting point is 00:23:12 The only thing I could literally talk about is law and radio. Yeah. That's it. That would be all you'd be able to talk about. One person writes, Matt, I have a kid. I went to a kindergarten graduation last year. You're completely right. The whole time I sit there thinking about what you were saying and say,
Starting point is 00:23:31 Matt would hate this and then I decided I hated it too. There you go, Drew. We're having an impact on society. People maybe just, they need to hear this. Yes. You know what the kids getting tired of graduations? Like, oh, I did it again. Let me put on my gown again.
Starting point is 00:23:47 No, the big one is what you want them to look forward to. way down the line. Every kid I saw downtown last night look miserable. The high school kids looked happy. They had flowers. I was happy for them. The little kids looked miserable. Shannon, there's a person outside my door.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Yeah. They're telling you that there's a Louisville Bats game about to start and you're in their studio. Please don't. They want me to leave this studio for a Louisville Bats game. Yeah. And go where? Yeah, I'm not going anywhere Go out on the streets of 4th Street
Starting point is 00:24:25 And just call in on your phone So the Louisville Bats game starts at 11 I guess And they want me to leave So they can broadcast the Louisville Bats But I don't know where you're going to go Yeah, we're not doing that This is a standoff
Starting point is 00:24:35 Lock the door I'm not leaving Put a chair up under the door handle No, let him in No, I'm going to go lock Hang on just on, I'm going to lock this thing He is going to lock I don't know
Starting point is 00:24:45 There's been a guy Hang on, I'm going to put a chair up against the door so they can't push it. That'll stop them. Yeah. One of those four chairs. While he's locking the door, this is a heck of a start to a show. I feel like we're in a second hour. Sorry about that. 859-280-2-87. All right, before I get the phone, Andy Bashir has a podcast. Does anyone listen to it? Have you all listened to it? I mentioned that last. I haven't like sat down and said, oh, I want to listen to Andy for an hour, but I've seen a lot of the
Starting point is 00:25:12 clips on social media. I haven't listened to any of it. I like Andy. I can't really imagine listening to a podcast of him hosting. I actually think he is a guest. it bad. But it may be good. I haven't listened to it. But his guest that came out this morning, Ryan, is John Caliperi. Really? Yes. Good decision, bad decision. For the governor of Kentucky to have Cal on. I don't think, by the way, he's had Pope, Kelsey, Stoops, Brom. I don't think he's had any of them on. Good decision to have John Calapary on? I think you would want to have him on, but not before the guys you just mentioned. I think you want to get your Kentucky coaches on first, wouldn't you? And then maybe bring Cal on months later. I'm a little surprised. I have to say,
Starting point is 00:25:58 Drew, that you go with Cal. You know, if Bashir was like a hard hitting interviewer, I actually wouldn't mind hearing it to see somebody ask Cal some questions from the Kentucky perspective. But I don't think that's what Bashir is going to be. But I was a little surprised. I would think this is episode six. I would have thought by now he would try to get Pope. Now, and Kelsey and then might want to stay away because of, you know, political aspect. I don't know. But interesting to me that Calo Perry, that's almost like, I don't know. It's an odd thing for the governor of Kentucky to do, don't you think?
Starting point is 00:26:37 I was quite surprised to see that name pop up. But I'm also, look at Cal doing media in Kentucky. What's this? First interview since 2020, 2021. At least somebody was able to book him in this state. I'm looking at the other guest. Would you like to know there? I'm just reading off the titles.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Episode 1, it says Andy, his son, and the CEO of Morgan and Morgan. Episode 2. Episode 1 was not the CEO of Morgan and Morgan. That's what it says. It was John Morgan was the episode 1? All right. Andy Machuropodcast.com. Episode 2, Nicole Avant on Lost Leadership and Legacy.
Starting point is 00:27:12 I don't know who that is. Shannon needs to check out episode 3 with Senator Amy Klobuchar. Oh, he'll get him. Lomitum. That one, glomitum. Okay. Senator Chris Coons to federal firings in episode four. He's actually a smart guy.
Starting point is 00:27:27 All right. Okay. And episode five was a Kentucky Derby special. So you can kind of get the timeline of what Bashir is going for here. I'm going to save those from a flight tomorrow. He's ramping it up a little bit, starting with a lawyer and then ending with getting up to Cal. I mean, it would be hypocritical of me, Shannon, because I would have Cal on in a heartbeat. Sure.
Starting point is 00:27:47 But, yeah. I don't know. Let's go to Kelly. Go ahead, Kelly. You got about a minute. Oh, I get a whole minute. Well, no, you don't take the... I do want to say, Shannon, I know.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Don't worry, I won't. But Shannon, I remember the other people, and I immediately started singing the theme song. I'm not going to embarrass myself and do it on the radio. But my ask anything Thursday question, last night at the KSR Bowling League, we were kind of reminiscing on, like, hashtags from the past.
Starting point is 00:28:20 We were talking specifically about the ass ham hashtag that kind of went viral and got trending. What are your all's favorite like hashtags or topics or things that went viral? My favorite was when we took the one
Starting point is 00:28:37 we took the one guy. What was it, Drew Slade, Brian T. Slade. Do you remember that? Yeah. That was my favorite. And that went like number one in the country. And it was a dude who just called and like kind of was arrogant. Brian T. Slade. I remember that now. That's my favorite. You got one, Drew? We got Drew Franklin Day and Matt Jones book to number one in the country, too. We did. Yep. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky
Starting point is 00:29:16 Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Wow. That's perfect. Mr. Ann with the noisy nose. This is amazing. Turn up just a second. Shannon, you have a whole world of songs I did not know existed. Thanks to you. You can start at A and go all the way through the alphabet and listen. Well, I got to drive. I got to drive back to Lexington tonight. Maybe that's what I'll...
Starting point is 00:29:49 I'm just a nosey nose. It's your new theme song for your podcast. You know, I was trying to figure out what the theme song would be. There you go. There we go. By the way, some people are making the point, Ryan. This makes some sense. You know, Bashir's wanting to run for president.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Cal's a pretty big name. Maybe that's why. That's fair. I mean, Cal is probably a bigger name than Pope or Kelsey if you're trying to get a national stage. So that makes sense, I guess. Yeah, I totally understand him wanting cow on there. It just seems a little odd that the timing you don't have the Kentucky guys on first and then you bring Cal on for a big splash. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Do you, what do you think? You know, he's on. I mean, Drew, Bashir is going to run for president. That's going to be weird, isn't it? it? Like he's going to run. That is going to happen. Everybody's reporting. Like, he's one of the first people getting in. I mean, the election's three plus years away. So it's a little early, but I think that's going to happen. Yeah, and it's gotten, even if you're not paying that close attention, someone like me, you can just tell by stuff popping up on social media. The
Starting point is 00:30:55 cow thing included, I agree that he's trying to get a big name. Bishir's doing a lot of stuff he wasn't doing in his first few years, putting himself out there a lot more than he ever has. Would you vote for him, Shannon? Do you, you, uh, you're do you care? Do I care about Bashir's podcast? No, no, not the podcast, but would you vote for it? Like, it's like if you were voting in the Democratic primary. Yeah, yeah, I think I would. Would you be more likely to vote for him because he's from here? And because I know
Starting point is 00:31:21 more about him and I probably wouldn't know anything about the other candidates. Then you would like, combing him or something like that. Yeah, yeah, for sure. You know, I'm still mad at her. She made me miss the Royal Rumble. Maybe you missed the Royal Rumble. That's right. I vote for him just because that selfie took with Ryan, where Ryan put his head on his chest at the PGA last year. That was weird. That was very weird. Now, there are people saying the graduations are not until May 23rd.
Starting point is 00:31:41 So who was downtown last night? Maybe it was just the little guys. Because preschool graduations, kindergarten graduations, I think are happening now. Even dumber. What person writes, Matt, do you follow as a lawyer famous trials like the Karen Reed and Diddy trials? No. I know who Karen Reed. I've heard her name.
Starting point is 00:32:05 Yeah. And I know what? Did she allegedly kill her husband? Is that what it is that or kill? Who did she kill? Yeah. Her husband left him out in the cold to die. Allegedly. Allegedly. Yeah, but I don't know any details. I think the first trial happened when I was in Europe last summer. So I didn't really follow it at all. But no. And I've seen that the Diddy trial is going, but I haven't really followed that either. It makes me kind of mad when I see trials because I know people in the news don't know anything about. it. And so I think, Drew, I just don't follow it because I don't feel like they know what they're talking about. So I don't really watch them. Do you? No, I'm not someone that does the all-day TV thing, but once Keith Morrison packages it up into an hour special on Dateline, yes. So I know Karen Reid from what Dateline's told me, but I don't get into the live day-to-day.
Starting point is 00:32:54 So you all do know Karen Reed. So what is it? She supposedly killed her husband, but there's a lot of people, it seems like they don't think she did. Yeah, they think it was a cover-up by the Boston police department. She ran over her husband and left him out in the cold when it was like below zero degrees to die. But then they're saying that the Boston Police Department are covering it up and that they did. Why? Why would they cover it? Why would they care? Don't know. If they were involved, he was a police officer. Oh, okay. Well, that's an important point. He was a police officer. Okay. It was like late at night. People have been drinking. They alleged that she hit him with the car leaving in the snow or something like that. Clearly, I don't know it that well, but that's the,
Starting point is 00:33:31 and this is the Drew and Ryan version. This is the second trial? Yes. Okay. Because what happened to the first one? I can't tell you. Because you don't know? I don't know. So you don't really follow the story very well.
Starting point is 00:33:44 I think it was they were deadlocked 6-6. Okay. So I hung jury. So what you're saying? Okay. Yeah. All right. Ask anything Thursday.
Starting point is 00:33:52 A different Bob. Bob, go ahead. This is the real Bob. Oh, hey, Bob. How are you? I like to remember Harvey. He was the out of, on top of his game
Starting point is 00:34:05 and y'all wouldn't ask him the hard question and what was the hard question? How he talked about is all a rosemary how it would cure everything. Yeah that was Harvey. Yeah, that was Harvey. You're right. The guy from Burnside or whatever, yes.
Starting point is 00:34:25 He was entertaining. And he went to all of all rosemary on the belly buttons. Yes. It worked good on. what did he do on the outies? And there's one other thing I like that.
Starting point is 00:34:41 The older you get, you get a little spicier. Have you noticed that, Shannon, about him? The older he gets, like his comments. Hey, the risk is not as great. That's a good outlook. There's one other thing I'd like to say. Back in the great programs you had, the one in Wadi, I'd love to see Ryan up there.
Starting point is 00:35:08 There was a Conway Twitty hairdo after I had Murdo's camping. I appreciate the call. We didn't ever go, though. We were supposed to go to Wadi to see the werewolf. That's one of the ones that people say is a KSR thing, Ryan, that never ended up happening because we never went. Yeah, I have my tent. I had my backpack.
Starting point is 00:35:27 I was ready to go camping overnight out there. Then they end up catching the dog that they think was doing all the damage. That was a great continuing story. For people who haven't been listening for a long time, They thought there was people in Wadi thought there was a werewolf, and it turned out just to be a dog. But that was a good multiple week story. Jacob, go ahead, Jacob. Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:35:48 So I was just curious, you can kind of elaborate on what happened with Mark Stoops and Texas A&M. I think, of course, the reports come out of A&M saying the donors said no. Yeah. I remember you saying that that was definitely not what happened. But I just told me you to laugh at it. Well, I don't, I mean, you know, you know. So there was a night. So we beat Louisville during the day that day.
Starting point is 00:36:12 I think we beat him at noon. And I am fairly confident he had been talking to A&M before that game. Then when he won, I think things changed a little bit. There was more. Would you agree with that, Ryan? There was more excitement there for. We lost us. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Did you? What was going on with that heart today? Do they? All right. Well, I guess we're still here, right? So turn them down. So turn them down. We'll keep going. So, you know, we, we beat Louisville. And then I think he was ready to accept the job. But he then wanted to, he told his staff for the first time, basically, to see who would be going with him if he went. and essentially all or most of his staff it looked like was not going to go. And I think that then gave him some second thoughts. And while he had those second thoughts and was trying to decide whether or not to take it,
Starting point is 00:37:20 then they had the whole controversy where a lot of his donors at A&M, they were starting to revolt. And I think the thing just fell apart. Now, it's clear from Stoops' side, it was a he pulled away A&M tries to say they pulled away but I actually think sir it was really a stoop's assumed the whole gang
Starting point is 00:37:42 would go with him and the whole gang wasn't going to go with him remember that was still Liam Cohen back then so I think that is what made it all fall apart but who was the first person to say no I am not 100% sure to be honest but I think they both kind of mutually fell out of love with each other when things didn't work out as they thought they might. Appreciate it, Matt.
Starting point is 00:38:08 I'm of the belief that if we lost to Louisville in that game, in Louisville, two years ago, Mark might have ended up the coach there. But we didn't. Mark then things just kind of changed. And I was around a lot that evening while it was happening. and it was a really bizarre thing to kind of be a part of. It's a great sort of six hours of UK history, kind of like the six hours when Gillespie left
Starting point is 00:38:41 and they couldn't find him and all that. 859-280-2287. Cornbreadhemp.com, these cornbread shan, and these cornbread, you know, seltzers are absolutely taken over. Have one last night, the blueberry. People, like, they're everywhere. And, you know, you've heard about them at this point,
Starting point is 00:39:00 but now you can get them. The salted watermelon and the blueberry breeze, peach iced tea. It's not just making drinks. They're doing work. They're using some of the proceeds to sponsor Goodwill, Kentucky for clinics here in West Louisville. It is all there. Cornbreadhimp.com or find them at beverage retailers in Kentucky, if you can. They sell out quickly.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Cornbreadhimp.com, feel good, do good, and drink cornbread. We will see if we can get Ryan and Drew back. Either way, we will take a break and be right back. On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that.
Starting point is 00:41:49 Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel like. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. an Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.
Starting point is 00:42:10 At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:42:34 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud.
Starting point is 00:43:06 But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back to Tegi Sports Radio. I'm going to apologize for the technical problems.
Starting point is 00:43:48 Nothing we can do about it. But it's been, I think, a difficulty, especially for people listening in Lexington. What is the Louisville site again, Janet, nose whistle? 790am.com. Maybe you could try that one's been more consistent. but I admit it frustrates me to know when that this cannot consistently work. Doesn't happen. Well, I'll just hush about it, but it does drive me crazy.
Starting point is 00:44:12 859-280-2287. It is the Clark's Pubbit Shop phone line. A Vision Auto Glass text machine 772-7745254. What person writes, Matt, I hear through the grapevine that you've become friendly with the administration at U of L. is that true, say it ain't so. Well, I wouldn't say friendly, but I will say this. And this is something that I genuinely think the University of Kentucky has to change in the coming years. And it has nothing to do with me.
Starting point is 00:44:48 It's just in general. U of L is, I'll just use a personal example. If I wanted to, Drew, I could call Pat Kelsey, Jeff Brom, the AD, and people high up in the administration, I have their phone numbers. Now, I have no reason to call them most time. But all of those people that I just mentioned have at some point reached out to me and said, hey, love to meet you sometime, br-br-br-br-brough-brough. I have no way of contacting directly.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Mitch Barnhart, Mark Pope, pretty much anyone except Mark Stoops. And it's because UK has a personal, like UK, they don't reach out to media. They just don't. The people that work in the media relations department are very nice people. But they don't proact. They see media like as the enemy. And they also, and JMI sees them as a competitor. So whereas U of L, they're better at it.
Starting point is 00:45:55 They just are. So you wonder sometimes, why does Pat Kelsey and Jeff Brom get such a good press nationally? that's a big part of the reason why. And I don't know what you think, Ryan Drew, but I think it's an absurd situation where it would be much easier for me to get Pat Kelsey on this show than it has been to get Mark Pope. We are having him next week and I'm glad.
Starting point is 00:46:20 But to me, that's ridiculous, but that's kind of how it is now. Yeah, this is a free tool for them to use. This is on statewide right now. Well, maybe not right now because of our difficulty. But I mean, in general. We would love to have anyone any time from over there. And it's very rare that we have a guest or any kind of real conversation with anyone on that side.
Starting point is 00:46:39 It's ridiculous. Part of it, as I do think the three-letter brand sees us as an enemy, JMI. But also, when they have something to promote, why wouldn't you hop on this? This is absolutely free to just come on, whatever you're trying to sell, whatever it is. Why is Mark Pope's first interview with John Rothstein's Twitter account, Shannon? That's a good question. I'm being serious. Like, I don't understand.
Starting point is 00:47:05 They have offered me to have Pat Kelsey on all the time. And I have said to them, I'm not going to do it until I have Pope on, but Pope is like scheduling an interview with the Pope. And when have we ever had a chance to have a U of L coach on this show? Yeah, I just, there's a part of me that says, I hope UK realizes we're entering into a different era where this stuff is going to matter a lot more. fans have so much access to everything and you're asking them for more money and you're asking them for more attention and Ryan you're asking them to donate and you're asking them to pay for more
Starting point is 00:47:40 when they're getting less and UK sees themselves as a product that doesn't really need it can sell itself and I think they're going to see this year with football that that's not true and had Cal State I think they would have seen it with basketball too right I think you guys hit it I think it's the Folks in the UK sports information, I think they're in a bad position because of the pushback they get from JMI. I think that, I think a lot of it stems from that. They are so scared and afraid of what JMI could do or pull away from them or whatever that they got to like walk a thin line with the rest of the media around here. Yeah. And I'm not calling any of these people, Shadden, because I don't need to talk, wanting to talk to any of them, honestly. I just want to sit at home. But it is a dumb world where I can pull up my phone book and have all of the UFL coaches in. and I have to go through like nine layers of security to get to the Kentucky ones.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Yeah, you would think that, like Drew said, they would want to be on this show. You would think, you would think it, but that's just how it is. Talk to the entire state. There's been times even recently when you're out where Ryan and I wanted to do something just outside the baseball stadium to promote opening day. They won't let you do it. Like, we'll be in the parking lot. We're trying to put attention on opening day. They won't do it.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Nope. Get out of here. They won't do it. I mean, Mark Pope's coming on. I can't do it live. they're making me come in and tape it because I can't be in the building when it's life. How ridiculous is that?
Starting point is 00:49:07 One of the coaches can't come to join us at KS. Barr Can't come to KS Bar because we are a competitor allegedly with Malones. Shannon, stop it. You know, I mean, stop it. It's so ridiculous and they're only hurting themselves, which they're going to see, I think, when the football season starts. Go ahead, David. Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Good morning to you. You had brought up earlier this week about, I guess, the decline of John Calgary's recruiting over the years with Boogie Flan, not being a first-round draft pick. And it just got me thinking about that time, a period of time when from 2009 to 2015, Cal Perry could just get anybody he wanted, whether it's the number one guy and number two guy. And then from 2015 onwards, it seemed that like a dude was pretty much getting anybody they wanted. Calipari was losing out on the guys he used to get. I think you had said back in the day that it was a result of like, I think
Starting point is 00:50:05 LeBron and Nike's camp had like a friction with John Calgary. I could be wrong when I said that, but do you think you could kind of elaborate more on that? No, that happened. When did Coach K drew become the Olympic coach? Was that 2016? Was that when he became the Olympic coach? He was the coach in 2012, too, because I think Anthony Davis was on his coach case too. I think what happened, I don't know friction like they were fighting,
Starting point is 00:50:35 but LeBron maybe through the Olympic process or whatever. I think they developed an affinity for Coach K. I think World Wide West and Leon Rose kind of became either neutral or they weren't as cow-centric. And it started to show itself. You know, he's still got top recruits through 2015. even into 2016, 2017, but then all of a sudden, I think when Duke started going full in on one and done, I think LeBron and them kind of said, Drew, wouldn't use that, like, if they
Starting point is 00:51:12 asked their opinion, I think they said Duke. Would you agree with that? Yeah, and that got to a stretch where LeBron was bragging on Coach Kay seemingly all the time. And as, you know, in the moment, we hadn't too far removed from LeBron being the Y at Rupp Arena. And I remember thinking, like, what are we doing, LeBron? Get back over on this side. And the Olympics had to It had to have been a big part of it. So I don't think there was like a huge falling out. I just think the most favored nation status went to Duke. And since the guys back then they were recruiting were a small amount of people,
Starting point is 00:51:41 these one and done kids, some of them just started shifting their minds in the other direction. Now, we still ended up with Deerrin Fox and Malik Monk and some guys that were Jamal Murray that were very highly touted. But I do think it slipped. And then when you get to the Zion years, a lot of those dudes ended up going to Duke. Thank you, Matt. Appreciate the call. And I do think that was a big thing, Ryan, for Cal.
Starting point is 00:52:05 He started losing his first choice in guys, which I do think hurt him, especially as we get into post-COVID. Yeah, because you guys know there for a long time, if Cal wanted a guy, he got that guy. I'd say in his first six years, Cal maybe lost on one or two guys. That number grew as the years went on. 859-280-2287. I'm going to go fight the Louisville Bats person out here, Shannon.
