Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. All right. Welcome back, Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio. You guys taking an hour or two off? What's going on?
Starting point is 00:03:22 We're taking a little break, you know, just kind of chilling, meeting some of the fans, shaking hands and kissing babies. Whenever you guys are ready to do a radio show, I'm here. All right. Well, we lost Drew. Drew and Abby are on the way to the Cincinnati airport in the monsoon. Matt's here. He's shaking hands, kissing babies. Okay. Maybe kissing hands and shaking babies. I don't have for sure what he's doing. So here you go and here you come. Ladies gentlemen, welcome back to the airwaves, Mr. Matthew Harper-Jones. Why is he so unprepared, Shannon, to be able to just say. Like he's sitting there saying kissing hands and shaking babies. Like you were completely unprepared for that moment. You know, there were people here who had to leave.
Starting point is 00:03:57 There was a couple people getting married, and then they had to leave at 11. They get married after the show. We get an hour to do here. No, but they're not getting married. They're not getting married here in the bar. And I just, you know, if you come all the way here because you're getting married and you wanted to stop by during your wedding weekend, I'm not going to not talk to you, you know, during the break for a minute. Did I hear him say they're getting married at Harper Hall?
Starting point is 00:04:19 No, they said they are getting married somewhere else. We don't need to announce where their wedding is. Let them have their privacy, Ryan. but nevertheless. Yeah, and so then I got also a conversation about, you know, these folks, these guys back here make a really good, they kind of ask me the ramifications of the Tennessee law. And Tennessee literally can blow up the whole sport if they're not careful. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Literally they could blow up the whole sport. It makes it all the more important that the feds, that Congress passes their law. Because long story short, in the state of Tennessee, the Tennessee state. law preempts the NCAA. If Tennessee says to their university, you don't have to follow the NCAA laws, then Tennessee doesn't have to follow it. Now, the NCAA could kick Tennessee and Vandy out, but I don't think they'll do that, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:05:12 But maybe they will. I don't know. But federal law preempts state law. So if Congress passes a law, it will preempt that state law for Tennessee, and the feds the feds will say Tennessee, now you have to follow the NCAA rules. So it's crazy to say this, but right now, the two most important people to college sports are Ted Cruz and Corey Booker. We literally, they have to do something. And it's really the two of them, because the rest of the Senate has basically said,
Starting point is 00:05:45 you two, Corey Booker was a former college athlete, Ted Cruz is a big sports fan. You two have to do it. And I hope they do. Because, like, it may be up to those two guys to save college sports the way we want it to be. Is there any chance that the state of Tennessee passes this? They already passed it. And then will other states follow? Of course they will.
Starting point is 00:06:10 SEC states. I mean, if Tennessee gets to do whatever they want and the other states don't, the other state, you remember what happened when California passed the law allowing athletes to get paid? Right. What happened? Within six months, everybody had that law because they wanted to compete. That will happen with this
Starting point is 00:06:29 unless Congress passes something. That's why I wanted if Tennessee, if it passes, with Georgia, Alabama, some big-time SEC states if they pass it. We'll pass it. I mean, it's not anybody. When California passed the law
Starting point is 00:06:47 to allow players to be paid, you remember Andy Beshear issued an executive order within like a month? That's right. Like, it was a month later when they, remember Cal and them went up to there, and we've told that story. They snuck into the office, Cal and Stoops. Like, that's going to happen. So I just saw this story right before I came on the air. Dan Wetzel tweeted about it.
Starting point is 00:07:10 But it is a potential, like, college sports killer unless Congress does something about it, which I think they will. Kind of puts them on a – It puts them on the spot. Yeah. It puts them on the spot. And that's why Nick Saban, you may have seen an interview with Nick Saban, where he's the head of that commission. And he said, I mean, I guess I'm the head of the commission, but I don't know why we even have the commission. This is not how we're going to fix it.
Starting point is 00:07:34 And he's right. They have to have legislation. Trump's commission cannot fix it. You cannot do this by executive order. You're going to have to do it by Congress and hopefully it gets done. Because I know that's what everyone listening wants to have happen. Absolutely. So 8-59-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:07:53 One person writes, Matt, with UK basketball, I'm not expecting the Final Four, but I'm expecting Mark Stoops, or excuse me, Mark Pope, to improve this year and to make it to where every game Kentucky has a chance to win. I agree with that. I think we had a chance to win every game, except I felt like when we played Alabama, Auburn, last year,
Starting point is 00:08:14 they were just on a different level. So this year I'd like to see us feel like in all those games, we're as talented as the teams we put. I think it's it. You know, we wanted to play at that final four levels. You know, last year maybe we were if we stayed healthy. Everybody stayed healthy. Maybe we could have got to that point.
Starting point is 00:08:28 But didn't you feel like when we played Alabama, we really didn't have a chance to win those games. We played them three times, and there was no game during those games that I really thought we were going to win. They were just better than we were last year. Just had better players. Yeah. But this year, I don't know that that will be the case.
Starting point is 00:08:46 This year, if you're looking at the SEC, maybe Florida might have the only roster. I might be a little scared of. Outside of that, Kentucky should be competing for the SEC championship. Another person writes, Matt, you talked about basketball. You guys have been down on football this week. Let me ask you a different question about football. What is the best case scenario for UK football in 2025?
Starting point is 00:09:06 Okay, good question. Let's say everything goes the best it could go for UK football this year. What's our record? I'm going to make people mad. Best case scenario would be like six and six. Oh, come on. I mean, I'm not saying we're going to do better than 6 and 6. But you think best case scenario is 6 and 6?
Starting point is 00:09:29 I don't think they're going to win any of those SEC home games. So I mean, you've got to go win on the road. But you don't think we could win those SEC home games? I mean, we beat Old Miss last year. You're telling me we can't beat them this year. They lost a quarterback that was a first round NFL pick. We beat them last year. You think it's impossible we could beat them this year?
Starting point is 00:09:45 Not impossible, but I just don't think I don't see it happening. Okay, but that's not what? All right, Shan, I'm going to go to you. Best case scenario. Okay. Yeah, just looking through the schedule here. Looking through the best case scenario. Let's go through Best case through the schedule.
Starting point is 00:09:57 You read me the schedules. Okay. So Toledo, yes. That's a win. Best case is a win. Okay. Could they beat Ole Miss at home? Yes, they could.
Starting point is 00:10:04 So I'm going to go two. I'm with you. Two and O beat Ole Miss. Eastern Michigan's three. Three. I agree. I agree. Could they beat South Carolina on the road?
Starting point is 00:10:11 Yes. Four. That's, I don't know. Yes. No, no, it's not. You don't think, but you're telling me. I think they're going to win that game this year. You're telling me, Ryan,
Starting point is 00:10:20 no way we could win that game at South Carolina. It's just impossible. No, there's a chance, but I don't think they're going to win in South Carolina. I still don't feel like he knows what best case scenario means. But okay. The best case scenario, you win every game. Okay, I agree with that, but I would say to you that there are games like, within reason. I cannot see a scenario we win at Georgia. Yeah. I can't, Texas. Yeah, I think. I Well, we play Texas here. It's going to be very difficult to win that game. So we've still got four wins so far.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Yes. Tennessee at home. Tennessee at home, unlikely. But could we win? Yeah. There's a world we could win. Okay. You got them at five.
Starting point is 00:11:07 I got them at four. Kentucky and Auburn. At Auburn. Definitely could win. Yeah, I agree. So there's five for me, six for you. Home against Florida. I think Florida's going to be really good this year.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Yeah. What about you? Yeah, Florida's really good. I think they're going to be really good. I think that's going to be possible. Let me put it like this. Between Florida and Tennessee, I don't think we could win them both, but maybe we could win one. I'm going to say that that's possible to win.
Starting point is 00:11:32 So I'm going to give them win. Tennessee Tech is next. We're going to win that. We'll beat Tennessee Tech. Vanderbilt on the road, I think is winnable. On a best case scenario, yes, you could be Vandy. And then at Louisville. At Louisville, best case scenario, yes, you could win.
Starting point is 00:11:44 Okay. So that's what, eight, eight? Yeah, I think you got them at eight. I think I've got them at eight. I think best case scenario, there's a world where they could win eight. I do not think they're going to win eight. I think they're probably going to go five and seven or six and six. But there is a world, Ryan, where they could win eight.
Starting point is 00:12:03 I'll take any bet you want to make right now. That's not what a best case scenario be. Well, you sound pretty confident. They're going to win at Baird? Am I speaking a different language? Like, the best case scenario, you're beating Tennessee and Georgia and Texas. But that doesn't mean I would bet on it. If I was bet on it, if I was bet.
Starting point is 00:12:18 betting on it, I would bet on them winning five or six. You sound confident they're going to beat Vandy. Vandy's beat us two years in a row. You said that's a win. I said in the best case scenario, it's a win. I just don't have a lot of optimism for the football team this year. Sir, let me ask you questions. I feel like I'm speaking French and he's speaking English.
Starting point is 00:12:44 And am I missing something about best case scenario? All right, all right. Like, is it possible, Ryan, they could get to eight? Is it possible you could win eight? No. You think it is impossible. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:59 All right. Well, that's what you believe that. Yeah. So if we win eight, which again, I don't think we're going to do. But if we did, what would you do? Walk in my boxer shorts. Okay. Nobody wants that.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Why does everything with you have to end up in nudity? There's no one choosing to want you to be new. Can we tattoo the record of the season? Okay, that's a great one. Eight and four. If they were to go eight and four, could we tattoo U.K. football best case scenario eight and four? It's a lot of ink.
Starting point is 00:13:36 It's a lot of ink. We'll give you a tramp stamp of U.K. football eight and four. No. Okay. So you're not that competent. Can we put it somewhere else? No, I do not want a tattoo. Inner thigh.
Starting point is 00:13:50 No, not happening. So then you're not really that confident. So, yeah, you're not that confident. I'm just not getting a tattoo, period. Sounds like you think there is a scenario where you could not get it. You just talked them into it. No, not get a tattoo. I'll work here at KS Barrow one whole day.
Starting point is 00:14:05 That's not, first of all, there are people that do that for a living. So that is not a, that is not a word like that you have to pay to be this unconfident. Yeah, I'm not getting a tattoo. Okay. We don't get to worry about it because it's not going to happen, right? Yeah, according to you, it's there's no way we could win eight games. I think the likely scenario is five and seven or six and six. I think the worst case scenario is we win three,
Starting point is 00:14:34 and there's even a world you could win two and lose to Toledo. Yep. But I think three is the worst case scenario. But I do think Shannon eight is a best case scenario, right? We just talked herself into it by going game by game throughout the schedule. Yeah. I mean, if everything went right, I think it is possible. If everything went right, Ryan would get a tattoo, but he's too scared to do that.
Starting point is 00:14:58 And so that's fine. He always wants to get nude, Shannon. Have you noticed that? Like, it's always, he always wants to be in his boxer shorts. Who's next? Diane. Diane, go ahead. Hey, Matt, I've been listening for several years and honestly have never had any interest or notion
Starting point is 00:15:15 in until this week. and I just can't help myself. Let me guess. You're bad that I said children should not have graduations. No, but it is adjacent to that. Okay. Earlier in the week, you talked about overly used words with Mark Popen Beautiful. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:33 You're going to disagree with me, but I have your word. What is it? Stupid. And I have evidence to back. You think I say stupid too much, okay? You do, and I have evidence to back it up. I have a three and a half-year-old daughter. She's very smart.
Starting point is 00:15:51 And the word stupid to her is an extremely naughty word, but she loves when people say it. Okay. And there was a week recently, a couple of times a month ago, you said the word every single day, Monday through Friday, at least once. She listens to KSR with me in the car. And whenever you say it, she either bust out laughing or just, like,
Starting point is 00:16:12 cannot believe what she's hearing other than the adult is saying that so much. So she thinks there's no adult. should not say the word stupid. Yeah, no, exactly. And yesterday in the segment about kindergarten graduation, you said at least five times. I lost up counting after five. So you literally put her hands over her ears and went,
Starting point is 00:16:34 why does he keep saying this? So what is your daughter's name, first name? Her name is Avery. Avery, I will for you, Avery, because you think it's a bad word. I will try to stop saying the S word for things that I think are not smart because I don't want Avery to feel to feel like I'm letting her down. So Avery, I'll say it one more time to get it out of my system. I will no longer say the word stupid, at least on purpose.
Starting point is 00:17:07 And Shannon, if I do, will buzz it and give me a battle. Okay. We'll say dumb instead. Avery, can you tell Matt you're proud of them? I'm proud of you. Okay, she got bashful on me, but we're proud of you. Well, thank you very much. As a parent, we'd appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I'm going to do my best. I'm going to do my best, Ryan, because I don't want three-and-half-year-olds to be disappointed. Yeah, that's nice that you're going to take Avery's advice and try not to say that word. Yeah, in the best case scenario, I will not do that. Starting point is 00:20:27 From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki.

Starting point is 00:21:45 I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Starting point is 00:22:36 At the end of that, I'll give someone tickets to the UK Purdue exhibition game. Good tickets. I think I can't promise they'll be low. but I think they probably will, knowing where I'm getting these tickets, they probably will be pretty good. That game is going to be quite an opening exhibition for us. I realize it's only 10 days after Big Blue Madness. Like, they're coming in hot. Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Well, I guess we'll probably do a pre-game show. Maybe you have to even do a post-game show for an exhibition game. I don't know about the schedule for the pre- and post-game shows, but I do think that it'll be so much excitement. I do think that, Shannon, I mean, that's going to be exciting playing a game. like that that early in the year. And remember, this is not, I mean, Purdue, they had a chance to be preseason number one or two. I mean, they're going to be really, really good. We went from playing like Morehouse and athletes in action to Purdue in exhibition games.
Starting point is 00:23:27 That's pretty awesome. That is a huge change. All right. Now, you're not going to like this question, Ryan, but this is coming from multiple people. So I've got to ask you the question. One person writes, I love Ryan Lemon. Let me preface it by saying that this is not an attack on him. that usually means this is an attack.
Starting point is 00:23:46 But this is not an attack on him, but I feel like his negativity towards UK football has risen a lot since Dane left. Does he believe that he has become more negative since Dane is gone? Or on the contrary, maybe he's just not as positive without Dane there? I'd say it's probably just a little bit of truth to both of those. But you would realize, though, that would be, that's letting bias get in. Sure.
Starting point is 00:24:17 But I mean, sure. Like, you shouldn't do that. No, but as a fan, I want Kentucky to win every game. I'm just trying to be honest. I could, you know, try to sugarcoat it. Smoke up everybody. But you did. I think it would be fair to say that during, like last year,
Starting point is 00:24:36 you did sugarcoat it some. I thought, let me put it like this. I thought your opinion about UK. football, generally speaking, was you were generally just more positive than me. Right? Like, Shannon has always been the body been the most negative, then Drew, then me, and you were always the most positive. And that's probably true of basketball, too. You've always just kind of been a positive guy. Yeah. I never really thought you were positive because of Dane. I just thought you were positive. And then
Starting point is 00:25:05 you were very positive about Dane, as you should have been. Sure. But now he's not there, and the guy that's always been positive is now sounding negative and that's not usually your personality. So why is that, you think? I honestly think I'm just trying to be honest about what I think the football team has. But you didn't think they were going to be good last year, really,
Starting point is 00:25:29 and you still kind of always would say... I think I predicted eight wins last year. Of course, they only won four. Yeah. I thought they'd win some of those SEC home games. So what do you think is the difference between what made you predict? eight last year and what's making you predict four now. I mean, we only won four last year, is that you think the, and you've heard that the culture
Starting point is 00:25:49 is much better. Culture is better. Sixteen starters gone. From a bad team, though. Yeah. I mean, you might argue that if 16 starters are gone when you stunk, there should have been 16 starters gone. So, and the players we've got coming in, I don't know if there's as good as the players
Starting point is 00:26:04 that left. So you don't think there's any bias towards it? No, I mean, there may be just a little, but not much. I just think this team, the football team is going to struggle some this year. Okay. All right. 859-280-2-807. I don't, I have never thought of you as biased.
Starting point is 00:26:21 I still don't. I know you were overly positive to Dane, but you should be. Yeah. Right? Like, just like anybody would with their kid. I am a little surprised at how negative you are this year. Because usually this time of year, even when we stunk, you were generally pretty positive. I'm sure as the season gets closer, I'll talk more.
Starting point is 00:26:40 myself into winning some more games. I just the way the schedule is this year and what I see on our roster, it's just going to be tough, I think. Okay. Who's up next year? Mike. Now, Mike, go ahead. Have you guys been talking any about the SEC track and field championships
Starting point is 00:27:00 that are supposed to be going on this weekend in Lexington? Yeah, I have not. But the SEC track and field championships are supposed to start today in Lexington. I don't know what this weather is going to do to the start of it or not, but I've seen the track athletes. I've seen them walking around town for the last two days everywhere, but the SEC track and field is here. Has it been here before?
Starting point is 00:27:26 No, maybe years ago, but it's been a while. We never had a facility, I think, that actually qualified to host it, and then when they did the new one, now we can. Well, I was actually in the SEC championships, in Lexington. I was an SEC record holder in 1971. Well, that was a long time ago, yeah. So are you going to go this weekend?
Starting point is 00:27:59 Well, my teammate and I, Jim Green, who was a world record holder, we're watching the weather. But we have so many world-class athletes, and I think that we need to be talking about it more. I definitely think that we need a better indoor track facility like they have at other SEC schools like Arkansas, where they can actually have the neat indoors if needed. Yeah, well, they just got the outdoor one done, so I think it's probably going to be a little while before they do the indoor one. But yeah, that's a very good point.
Starting point is 00:28:47 I appreciate you calling, sir. We really do. There are people here in Lexington this weekend that will be in the Olympics. Sure. A lot of them, because the SEC, I mean, we have a pipeline of SEC athletes to the Olympics more than any other conference, and they're all going to be in town. So if the weather does get better, I do think if people can get out there this weekend, you will see people that will be wearing Olympic uniforms in 2028, right, coming up.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Even Kentucky? Track and field athletes. Some of those guys will be in the Olympics. Yeah, so that is all weekend. I'm not sure how the weather is going to change the schedule. We'll be right back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2020-87. People seem to like that conversation, Ryan, I'm on the text machine, 772-744, and some of them. One person says, does Ryan, will he go to a Nebraska game this year?
Starting point is 00:29:54 Yes. Kentucky's off weekend, Nebraska hosts Michigan, so I'm going. That's cool. Yeah. That'd be a great environment. I think so, too. Yeah, good. One person writes, Matt, you of all people should not criticize Ryan
Starting point is 00:30:06 for being overly positive on football. You've been overly positive the entire Mark Stoops era, and you don't accept that Kentucky football should be a lot better. It is funny how time changes when Mark was in his early years, if you remember, fans were mad because I wasn't positive enough. Remember, my thing used to be that I didn't think there was any way Kentucky football could ever go to the SEC championship. I didn't think there was any way Kentucky football could ever recruit well.
Starting point is 00:30:36 There used to be people who say, heck, there was a guy on a message board a few days ago who said, I want UK football to lose because I like UK basketball more, which is a really dumb comment. I didn't use the other word, by the way, notice. Good for you. And now it said I'm too positive. I think a lot of that stems right from me doing that video last year where I said that there was a way for them to go to the playoffs. Uh-huh, yeah. But I will stand by that that was true.
Starting point is 00:31:05 At that time, it was true. Because again, let's look back at last year. We only won four games, and we stunk. But let's look at who we lost to, okay? We lost to Vandy. Yeah. Should have won that game. Should have won.
Starting point is 00:31:21 That's five. You're telling me we should have lost to Auburn? Should have beat Auburn at home. Okay, now you're at six. Florida. Had that game. Had it. Seven.
Starting point is 00:31:33 Right? South Carolina. South Carolina at home. That's eight. Should have won an hour. And if you remember what I said was, there are eight winnable games on the schedule, and then if you could shock somebody,
Starting point is 00:31:44 we could do it. Yep. And we were there with Georgia. Yeah. So, now, that's easy to say, we lost all those games. But if you had that Will Levis team, or even like the team with Devin Leary,
Starting point is 00:32:03 you'd have had a shot in those. game. Sure. So my comment that in theory was there a way to make the playoff? Yes, and I said this. Missouri had the season a couple years ago that we wanted to have. That's right. Right?
Starting point is 00:32:17 And last year, if Ole Miss had just beaten us, they would have had that season. Yeah. But they lost to us. So my comment, I never, people take that video. That was one of Mario's first video he puts out. It still goes viral with fans, give me a hard time about it. it but the idea that it was there for the taking I still stand by it's just we stunk and we couldn't do it and I want to be clear I hope I'm wrong I want the Kentucky football team to
Starting point is 00:32:45 win every game I want to be very successful but we try to be honest on this show trying to tell us what we really think and right now I guess I'm still like Missouri you still got to show me speaking of being honest Shannon did you see Johnny Broome of Auburn's vertical leap at the NBA Combine yes yeah so Auburn's Johnny he jumped in the vertical leap 24.5 inches, which is one of the lowest totals ever recorded at the NBA Combine. In fact, at the NFL Combine, Florida had a defensive lineman that weighed 457 pounds, and he jumped 25 inches.
Starting point is 00:33:28 So he jumped a half an inch higher than Johnny Broome at 457 pounds. and if you watch the video, it's kind of sad because Johnny Broom is really trying. Yeah, he is. Like he does that thing where he keeps going up, and he's like, all right, here we go. Get the momentum going. Here it comes, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:33:46 I'm about to hit big time heights. Here we go. And then he's like, whee! Is that the noise that he made? And then apparently, like, somebody, one of the draft people or somebody online goes, learn to speak Chinese man, which is like really mean,
Starting point is 00:34:02 meaning he's not going to be playing in America. You know, Johnny Broome was never a great athlete, but that was surprisingly terrible. I was very surprised. The dude was in the competition to win National Player of the Year with Cooper Flagg. It was one of those two guys.
Starting point is 00:34:17 And for him to have one of the lowest recorded vertical jumps ever, I thought he was more of an athlete. Really did. Maybe that's why he didn't get recruited highly out of high school. You know, he went to Morhead State. What do you do, Shannon, if a 457-pound football player jumps higher than you in a vertical leap? Do you just quit?
Starting point is 00:34:33 Move to China. Start playing there. I'm done. And he barely got over a piece of paper at that height. He was so good in college, too. And in some ways, I mean, I wonder like, you know, Yokic, what do you think his vertical leap is? It's probably 24.5 inches.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Probably not much more than broom. I mean, it's probably not a lot. And it worked out pretty well for him. And it worked out well for him. But it is kind of amazing. I think what makes the video so sad is how hard he's tried. He's really tried. He's swinging those arms.
Starting point is 00:35:04 He's swinging those arms and he's really trying and it's just not happening for him. I wondered it, you know, he got hurt during the year. Maybe he was injured. Maybe he's hurt, but that seems like kind of crazy. That's all the higher he got. And he got 24.5 on the first one. The one you see on video, he didn't even get that. He wasn't even able to get what he had gotten the first.
Starting point is 00:35:26 So how much of that do you weigh into, you know, he's still a great player, but he can't jump. So do we take a chance? on him or not like you know yeah i don't know i mean it's gonna hurt him yeah i mean it's gonna hurt him because like you know i mean if you're gonna play like remember yokitch wasn't yokech a second round pick i think he was i'm not sure i mean i i think yokish was a second round pick and as good as he is i don't think people thought he was gonna be good he was a second round pick they put so much emphasis on things like that like you know in football how many times you can bench press you know 225 pounds and now down's the vertical jump in basketball but so much
Starting point is 00:36:02 emphasis on that, rather than just being the player that he is. He was the 41st pick. Yeah, so Yokic is the 41st pick. Now, obviously, they got that wrong, but a lot of people say, well, why do you put so much emphasis on that? If you go and look at the second round picks, for every Yokic, there's 25 guys that don't make the league. Right?
Starting point is 00:36:21 So you might get one Yokch wrong, but then there's a lot of guys that stink. Well, would you draft him? Just based on that? I would not draft him, but I would put him on a G-League team or something and see what can happen. you're right. His skill set is not athleticism, but I do wonder that slow shot, and he's not that tall. I don't know if that'll work in the NBA. What's he projected? Is he projected?
Starting point is 00:36:42 I don't think he's projected to get drafted. He's not. Wow. Maybe second round, but I don't think so. Who's next? Bruce. Bruce. Go ahead, Bruce. Got a piece of news and then a question for the KSR Supreme Court, Your Honor. Court is open.
Starting point is 00:36:58 The piece of news is yesterday the rainy brother. from Union County, the wrestler of Jordan and Jaden, they committed to wrestle at Oklahoma State. They were the highest ranked recruits that hadn't committed yet, and so congrats to Jordan and Jordan and Jordan probably the best wrestlers ever in Kentucky history. Yeah. Committed to Oklahoma State yesterday. Congrats to them. And what's your question?
Starting point is 00:37:26 What is number of years removed or the age for both men and women that it's creepy if they go to a high school prom. And what's the oldest age you can go to a high school prom and it not be creepy? Yeah. You see prom photos all the time on social media. You're just like, man, this dude is way too old. This woman's way too old to be going. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:37:53 It's tough with high school because it's also a lot of those people. That's 17 year old. So like, I don't know. I appreciate the call. It's not very high, I would say. I wouldn't. I agree with you. I wouldn't go over 20 because you figured he's a 20-year-old, maybe two years ago. He's a senior. His date may have been a sophomore. I can see that happening.
Starting point is 00:38:10 If you're old enough to buy beer for everybody at the prom, that's too old. That's too old. Good point. Yeah. Good point. You know, when I was in Middlesbrough, I don't know about you all in small towns, but there was a parking lot where everybody hung out. Did you grow up in a small town? Was there a parking lot where everybody hung out? Ours was the Roses parking lot. And the Roses parking lot, everybody would drive around. and there was a time when you were a senior in high school, you'd see the people that were too old to be into Rose's parking.
Starting point is 00:38:37 You know what I mean? It's like you need to move on with your life, Rose's parking lot. That time of your life is over. And I would say 20 was about the age. So would you go to Rose's parking lot? You couldn't get out of the library. What is that supposed to? You spent a lot of time in the library?
Starting point is 00:38:57 On the beat back chair. Not on 9 o'clock on a Friday night. I wasn't in the library. Wouldn't be shocked. No, see, you've taken this library story wrong. When I was a senior in high school, there were a couple classes that my teachers felt like, you know, there wasn't anything left to teach me. So they would send me to the library to the beanbag chair to read like novels and I would have to write stuff. They were trying to keep me like challenged.
Starting point is 00:39:24 It wasn't because I just was such a dork that I always had to be in the library. It was that they kind of, Middlesbrough ran out of classes for me. So they sent me and I would read like Gabrielle Garcia-Marquez books, which they couldn't sign to the regular school because they were kind of risque and they didn't want parents to get mad, but they knew that my parents would be okay. How often did you go to the Middlesbrough City Library then? Not a lot. Not a lot.
Starting point is 00:39:49 I've had a social life, thank you. You act like I'm just talk about Stockton Mortgage. Stockton Mortgage. You know, we mentioned in my little Funko Bottle. pop here, Vunkle Pop doll. He got a Stockton Mortgage shirt on it because I'm proud to represent Stockton Mortgage. They're the number one lender in Kentucky. They're all
Starting point is 00:40:06 over Kentucky. They're growing. They're even outside of Kentucky. So if it's coming up, you're thinking about maybe making a move, maybe adding on to your house, maybe building a new house. Give Stockton Mortgage a call. NMLS. 8259, equal housing lender. They'll be glad to help you. The rain is stopped outside. And so now the day,
Starting point is 00:40:22 the track will probably be going on here in a little bit, and you can come out. KS. Bar and Grill. Remember, all weekend long, take a picture of yourself here. With the menu? You said you have to take it with the menu? I mean, I'd like you to have something to show it's now, but I'm not going to be too, you know.
Starting point is 00:40:36 But you do have to have, like, yourself in it. You can't just, like, take a picture of food. I got to know what you, because if you take a picture of yourself, at least know you're not just stealing somebody else's picture. See, you're doing it right now. I will know this is real because I'm in the picture. There you go. And so I will know that that actually is a qualifying picture.
Starting point is 00:40:57 We will take a break. And send it to the tax machine and you have a chance to win UK tickets. We'll be right back. We'll be right back. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying.

Back final statement here, Kentucky Sports Radio, KS Bar and Grill. 859-28027. Text machine 772-7-745254. People asking me about the Preakness Trifecta pick.
Starting point is 00:45:22 The Preakness, I think there's only what, eight horses in it? Eight or nine. Yeah, my trifecta stuff doesn't work unless you get at least. 12 to 14. It's just not enough for the payment to be worth. So, I mean, I'll bet on the preakness, but it won't be, it's not the same payoff. You need a bunch. That's why the Breeders' Cup and the Derby are really the only ones
Starting point is 00:45:42 at work, because it's the only races nowadays that have the amount of horses that you need. I'm going to bring this up to you. You know, all this debate about moving the day to the preakness and the Belmont. We talked about how the Belmont's not even at Belmont Park this year. It's a different race track. Next year, the preakness is not even at Pimlico. They're moving in. next year to work on.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Is it at Laurel or whatever? Yes, that's it. So next year, both the Preakness and the Belmont are at different tracks. I don't know if. Because Taratoga's two years. Okay. Yeah. So they won't move the date, but yet they'll move the whole race.
Starting point is 00:46:11 That's amazing. I didn't realize the Preakness was moving too. Pimlico needs it, though. Pimlico needs to be redone. It's junkie. It's disgusting, actually. Yeah. Have you all ever been in the Preakness?
Starting point is 00:46:24 It's disgusting. Like, it needs to be. One guy is described it as the trailer part. of horse racing. Yeah. It's just junkie. Like, you, you, if I were to list for you the 10 best horse tracks in America, Pimicoe might not be in the top 20.
Starting point is 00:46:40 Like it's, it's. So they're going to move it to, what do you say, Laurel? Laurel's nicer now. They probably should have it there anyway, but they don't. One person writes, Matt, you mentioned you read Gabrielle Garcia-Marquez. I want to know, has Ryan ever read Gabriel Garcia-Marquez? Do you even know who that is? It's not a shortstop.
Starting point is 00:46:59 for the Guardians. She was married to Tom Brady. That was Giselle. Oh, I tried not even Gabrielle. I have never heard that author. Loving the time of cholera? No. 100 years of solitude?
Starting point is 00:47:13 No. Okay. She wrote those books? No, those are just words I wanted to say, Shannon, that I thought would be nice. I'm with Ryan. I've never heard of her. Actually, it's a he. Gabriela is a he?
Starting point is 00:47:27 It's Gabrielle. Oh, Gabrielle. Yeah. Sorry. The Keynes made this Eastern Conference Finals last night, which was fun. I'm wearing a cane shirt. You are. I pumped by fist. I'm getting to the point that the canes are like, they're not going to be Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:47:44 but they're probably second for me in terms of getting into it. I know all the players, I've really gotten into it this year. I've always liked them, but I've really gotten into it this year. So I know you're going to try to go up and win an extra game. Will you go down the next round of the championship series? I think I will. I'll go to one of them. They'll either play Florida, which is in Miami or Toronto.
Starting point is 00:48:05 I was saying, I'll go if it's in Miami, but Toronto might be closer. Toronto's a lot closer than Miami. Which you think Shannon is closer. Miami or Toronto? Toronto. Toronto. Like six hours. Yeah, I would say Toronto.
Starting point is 00:48:15 Yeah, Toronto is Toronto, Ontario is. I'll look at Miami while you're looking that up. Yeah. Toronto is, it looks like it's only, it's 574 miles. You think Miami's farther than that? Oh, yeah. Miami is like 16 hours. Yeah, 16 hours.
Starting point is 00:48:29 Let me say, what's the mileage on it? Driving to Toronto is only eight and a half hours. I thought it was shorter than that. Yeah, it's 1,093 miles to Miami. You would never think that. It's double the miles from Lexington to Miami as it is Toronto. So if they play Toronto, will you try to go there? I think it would be hard to get a ticket there because if they're playing, they lose their minds about it.
Starting point is 00:48:53 So, yeah. But I might go up there for the atmosphere or something like that. That might be fun. You know, Toronto has the only nickname that's grammatically incorrect in all of professional sports. What do you mean? The maple Leafs. Oh, because it's Leaves. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:49:07 They're the Maple Leafs, not the Leaves. What an interesting trivia question. Uh-huh. How did you know that? How did you know that? I don't know. Maybe I learned it when I was reading in the library. Reapriel Martinez-Fernandez in the library.
Starting point is 00:49:22 Gabriel Martinez-Fernandez. Yeah, was that her name? Yeah, he was good. All right. He caught out of her again. Mike from Vegas. Mike, go ahead, Mike. Second time, long time.
Starting point is 00:49:33 How are you doing, guys? Love your show. Thank you. A couple of things. A couple of things. Can I be your caddy at your next event? And I have a possible tattoo option for Ryan if you guys choose to do the record thing with Kentucky this year. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:51 Based on Avery's kindergarten call earlier, the tattoo should just be stupid. No, I wouldn't do that to you, Ryan. I appreciate the call. I would not make you. Okay, okay. One more thing. We can't say that word. We can't say that word.
Starting point is 00:50:06 And you did two days. I appreciate the call. I got to appreciate the call. You get two things. That's three. You don't get three. You get two things. You cut people off today.
Starting point is 00:50:13 We're past that. Yeah, you should have done it yesterday. I would let you do all three things. Who's next? Judy. Judy. Judy, Judy, Judy, Judy, hey, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:25 I look at Facebook right before I go to bed. Yes. And last night, they had a thing, Otega, and it said that he's demanding to get more money than... Yeah. Let me tell you something, Judy. Don't believe Facebook. That's my advice to you about everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:44 I got on there. I mean, all these people were bad about O'A and I got on there, and I said, you know, that's crap. Yeah. Otega is not demanding anything. I didn't see that. But Otega, here's what I can tell you about Otega. If he decides not to go in the draft, the deal he has with Kentucky is done. Okay?
Starting point is 00:51:04 So he's either going to stay in the draft or he's going to go. But Otega and U.K. already have a, if he doesn't go in the draft, what his deal is to come back. That's why Pope feels confident in his press conference talking about him being here, because they already know what it will be if he comes back. Yeah. It just pissed me off. Thank you, Judy. You can't believe Facebook.
Starting point is 00:51:31 You can't believe Facebook. No, you can believe it's on the Internet, but not on Facebook. Draft Kings pick of the night. Go to Draft Kings, bet five win $300. Tell me, Nick Celtics, big game. Game six. Nicks are up three, two. But if they lose, then they'll have to go to Boston for game seven.
Starting point is 00:51:44 No Tatum. What you got? In the Garden. Friday night, Nick's Magic is back. Knicks win the night without Tatum. If I could be anywhere, tonight, I'd love to be at that game. I mean, I think that's going to be one of the really great.
Starting point is 00:51:58 $1,200 for the back row. Would you pay that? No, but I'd love to be in there sitting next to Kylie Jenner and Timothy Chamoulet or whatever and Shamaulay, same thing. I think it would be awesome to be in there. But, yeah, it's going to be in the crazy atmosphere tonight. And I hope it's going to be the end up in the mix of the Pacers. Let's go Jalen and Kat.
Starting point is 00:52:20 Stop overpaying for sunglasses, Shady Ray's, Independent American on company right here in Kentucky, running, fishing, biking, golfing, premium polarized shades.
