Starting point is 00:02:43 everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, or Tuesday, May the 20th here at the KS Bar and Grill on a kind of cloudy, gloomy day, but that's all right, because we're here, ready to rock. You can give a shout. I will take your calls.
Starting point is 00:03:00 today. Clark's Pump and Shop phone line 859-280-2287. A-Vision Auto Glass text machine is 7-7-2-7-4 in this edition. Sponsored by the T.J. Smith-Lawvis. If you call T.J., he'll make them pay. We got some folks here from Bowling Green. Nice to see you guys this morning. I think they're a little scared of us. They're sitting sort of like at a table back there a little bit. No, no, no, you're good. Don't they don't feel like you have to move. I don't want to put you. I don't want to put you in. You sit where you want to sit. You know, I don't want to. Come get close. They're going to come visit us a little closer. Their first ones here. I walked in. They're waiting for us. Yeah, they were like wise Ryan setting up the equipment with three minutes to go before the show.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Yeah, I was coming in hot tonight today this morning. You know what I mean? The show starts. It really goes at 10.03. Yes. Not the best to start putting the equipment up at 9.58 a.m. The good thing is I remember the equipment because it was in my son's car. You know, he went to Lundon yesterday.
Starting point is 00:03:53 I'm not giving you credit. He doesn't get credit for doing the one job he has in the morning, which is getting this set up. But the good thing is, we made it. We did make it. After our trip yesterday to London, and we are back and ready to get back to sports, I do want to know, you know, after the show yesterday, we walked around the London neighborhood, the Sunshine Hill neighborhood for a while. It seems like they now have sort of a better control system kind of in place of who can get in and out,
Starting point is 00:04:27 and I think that's good. So there was a lot, it was a lot less chaotic than it was when I was there on Saturday. And there were, you know, we just saw people sort of cleaning up as much as possible. They wanted to get before the storms here today. We got to talk to a lot of people. And, you know, there's an interview I did that is online that I'm sure many of you have seen by now with the brother-in-law of the first responder who passed away. That was a pretty powerful conversation.
Starting point is 00:05:01 And, you know, guys, we were there yesterday kind of on the ground, and I want to thank all the people who have written in and talked about it with me and said, you know, nice things. But that was a, you know, it was a tough thing to watch. But also, you know, there are positive things happening down there and trying to recover, and hopefully that continues to occur. I'm sure I'm like you guys. I couldn't stop thinking about it the rest of the day yesterday.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Those images and those stories we heard walking around and visiting with people, just the heartbreak. And I kept going back to that minister who was sitting in front of his church that no longer existed. He was just sitting out front there, and the church was gone. Yeah, there was the minister of the Sunrise Hill, or is that what the name? Sunshine Hill Baptist Church. He was just sitting in front. What can you do?
Starting point is 00:05:50 The church is gone. He had found a bell from the church, and he had it seated next to him. And, you know, he kind of had a look like we don't really know what to do at this point. And, yeah, now there were some really positive things. The North Laurel football team, we saw those guys walk by during the show. They looked like you would think. A bunch of guys to get work done. And there were a lot of people, clearly, that had come from a long way to help clean up.
Starting point is 00:06:17 I mean, I continue to get people asking, what can we do? I think the cleanup is the thing now. I think they probably can use some bodies. You know, the sender was on here and said that he wasn't sure about that. I can say I think they do need some bodies and people have, people there have said they could use that. And that's kind of where it is now as it gets to the difficult part. Yeah, it was one thing to just, when we first got there, we just walked around, we had visuals. But then after the show, actually talking to people who lived at, the man who lost his brother-in-law and whose sister
Starting point is 00:06:50 in critical condition. We met the guy whose parents, they were lucky, but they were in the bathtub and everything kind of fell on him. He showed us the picture of that. So here in the stories. The whole house was gone, Shannon, except the bathtub. Wow. And they laid in the bathtub.
Starting point is 00:07:04 These two, I think he said, in their 70s. He was out picking up the debris next to us while we were talking to it. That's an unbelievable thing. And he showed us the picture, all the house is gone except sitting there was the bathtub that they were in. So, yeah, just hearing the stories just added to it. The visuals were enough to break your heart. but hearing from people who actually lived it, I'm with Ryan.
Starting point is 00:07:23 I thought about it all night. Yeah, I did too. It was, well, I mean, it kind of is what we've said. It's tragic. We will, I expect today that there will be an announcement about a fund. I mean, I continue to hear people there locally say, with the exception of a couple things, like the gloves and the plastic, what do you call it? Tarps.
Starting point is 00:07:48 The totes. I think they have the tarps. now, but the totes. I don't know that they need goods, a ton of goods, but they do need those, and then I think it will be a financial thing for the rebuild. You know, we were walking around, Mario and I were like, you know, where are these people going to stay? Where are they going to live now?
Starting point is 00:08:08 Well, the governor said 800 people are being housed right now. It's amazing. In various places in Laurel County. So anyway, God bless all the folks down there. And thank you to all the people who were. hospitable to us down there. There were a lot of people who were cleaning up who said they were listening during the show. So that was nice.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Now, we come back and the real world here is back, and I believe, Drew, you can tell me this. Is a basketball recruit deciding to me? We have a commitment. Watch. It is amazing to me how behind I've gotten on this stuff. Because I saw the kid's name. It's like Hawthorne, right? Braden Hawthorne from West Virginia.
Starting point is 00:08:52 And I've heard about him. And when I heard about him was a while back when I was talking to folks at UK, and he was kind of the, this could be the last guy, but this was before we got the Croatian. So I've kind of assumed he wouldn't be the last guy anymore. But he's deciding today, and some people think he might go here. He's right in the mix. There's been conversations with him for a while.
Starting point is 00:09:13 He visited last month, but the roster seems pretty complete. everyone on the outside so we've been watching but not knowing how serious it was but now that we're in the final hours he makes his announcement tonight Kentucky's in like the top two he was committed to west Virginia at one time so tell me he's from west Virginia yeah where's he from was a was a I don't know the exact he played huntington yeah played a hunting that's where uh people don't that's where patrick Patterson played okay so he committed to them and decommitted but it's still considering them the second time around why would you do that and pit is the other school West Virginia Pitt
Starting point is 00:09:46 So I guess the question is Duke and Virginia Tech are on the list But those Kentucky Pitt and West Virginia seem to So it sounds like the question is Do I want to go to a school where I may play Or do I want to go to a school where It's Kentucky but I may not play?
Starting point is 00:10:00 Do you think that's kind of thing? That's completely what it is Because I mean I think Kentucky's been up front with them Like we are stacked right now Pretty much across the board You'll be a following year Guy we really want to develop
Starting point is 00:10:13 and put into his starring role. So he's got to decide, you know, Pitt, let's just say they were trash. We don't know that. Keep it up with Jalen Lowe. Wait just a second. They were trash? Absolutely, yeah. Well, we got Jail Lowe.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Anything you know about Jail Lowe is he's basically playing one-on-five out there. So, I mean, if he were to go to Pitt, he's going to play right away and be the guy. West Virginia's offered a lot of money. It's home. He's already committed once. Also, more immediate playing time. But it seems like he's really considering just taking a spot kind of deep on Kentucky's bench and being a developmental piece for his sophomore season.
Starting point is 00:10:43 you do? Would you want to go be the 13th or 14th man? But a 13th or 14th man who, tell me what is he ranked? I thought he was like a flyer. And then I saw maybe 24-7 sports had him as the number 33. Yeah, he had a big spring. Some of them haven't really adjusted. Like, I think it might be still in the 80s on one list. But I think he's 35th with on three. He really blew up just very recently. So he has 35th player in the country with on three? And we might just get him. As a guy who knows he won't get a whole lot of immediate playing time. That's wild. I mean, that's like a really highly ranked recruit, and I cover it, and I, like, kind of knew
Starting point is 00:11:22 he existed. We could get the 35th ranked recruit in America this year, and it just kind of has happened. Without having a promise a certain amount of shots. Like, I mean, maybe he breaks out and does play a lot, but the assumption is, hey, you're going to. And how tall is he? 6-8, 6-7-ish wing? Six-eight.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Small forward? So, I mean, this could. be like, it would be a huge recruitment that's no one's really mentioning. It really was. I mean, you're talking about no one mentioning. I mean, Braden Hawthorne, that's coming out of nowhere, isn't it? I love his thought process. If he knows he's concerned in Kentucky, knowing he's going to be maybe the 13th guy, maybe that's what his whole process is. I'm going to learn as much as I can for one year, and then the next year, I'm going to earn that plane time, earn that spot.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Well, the other way to look at it is if you were to go to Pitt or West Virginia and he were to have a good year, he might just end up here anyway. That's true. You know, I mean, there's a little bit of that's kind of how it goes. Maybe his thought is, why skip the step, why not just go ahead and go there? I mean, I guess that's, you think that's maybe one way of looking at it? Definitely. There's been questions, obviously, about Pope recruiting, you know, good high school talent, but if he can recruit a guy to not even play right away, that's pretty insane to just stow him away his 13th, 14th guy. And like, maybe he breaks out if he does come here and still some spots, but that's not being assured in the recruiting process at all.
Starting point is 00:12:43 And if they end up, I mean, if you just want to do a direct one for one, if you end up replacing Travis Perry with a kid like this. This is an upgrade. I mean, that's an upgrade, isn't it? Like, don't you think? I mean, Duke's on his list. A bunch of schools reached out to him. Duke's in his final five.
Starting point is 00:12:59 I don't know how serious it is at this point. But, I mean, this is a big recruit. It's not a top five like we would get spoiled with years ago, but a four star who's climbing the ranks had a big spring. Yeah, absolutely. It is amazing to me how much, at least on a personal level, the whole recruiting process has changed. I mean, there was a time this fan base, you know this. I mean, it was a time this fan base was obsessed with recruiting.
Starting point is 00:13:23 And it wasn't just Cal. It was, that was during Tubby and that was during Gillespie. And that has just completely changed. I think we're obsessed with the portal. And we might be obsessed with like one or two guys as they come. But it is amazing how it's changed, hasn't it? the recruitment of high school kids has definitely taken a back seat when we look at our roster for next season. You're right. This guy would have been on the forefront of everybody's
Starting point is 00:13:48 minds for the last month or so. We would have known all about this kid. And I would, and again, we would have been watching his high school games. And we would have been like, oh, you know, AJ. Hawthorne Updates. A.J. Stewart likes to play pickleball. I mean, that would have been kind of that thing. It's interesting. I'm trying to think of the AJ Stewart's of the world. Think of the names of the past that didn't come here that you remember. Okay, so in my internet world, the first name I can remember being like obsessive on the internet was Darius Rice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Do you remember Darius Rice? Yeah. He was the, he was when I was starting McGlore 52. Okay. That stage of my career, that was Darius Rice was the big one. Jay Lucas, I think is another one you have to mention. as a name of the past. What else?
Starting point is 00:14:43 I actually mostly remember the Billy Gillespie high school kids and the Venizzoos. We did this. Vinnie Zolo. Recently was Ryan. Michael Avery. Hunter McClintock. But those are guys we actually got. I mean, can you think of the dudes that we didn't get that are names from the past?
Starting point is 00:14:57 And maybe ones that didn't end up being very good. What was a kid's name that skipped us to go to high school and then went to Notre Dame? Oh. He turned down at Kentucky offer to stay in high school for another year. What was that kid's name? I remember him. He was kind of like a little, he was Cherubic. You remember that?
Starting point is 00:15:23 I remember that. I remember that story. I can't remember the name. I can't remember that. Two names that popped up in my mind with Shabaz Mohammed. Well, I mean, people say, Cherubic, I think is a funny word. Sometimes people say my face. You're a cherubic, yes.
Starting point is 00:15:32 I didn't ask you to say I was, anyway, go ahead. Shabaz Mohammed is when I remembered. Well, he was really good, though. But the one, you got to go way back. And, of course, it's before you guys' time. It was a guy named Byron Mouton. And every day at Channel 18, we did every single day a Byron Mouton update. Where was he from?
Starting point is 00:15:50 I don't know. We ended up picking Maryland, not Kentucky. I vaguely remember that. We're talking like 0-2, 03, something like that. Yep. Yes. Every day we get a Byron Mouton update. Well, maybe in the text machine, for those of you who remember the old Internet.
Starting point is 00:16:05 This is called the Darius Rice, because Darius Rice was the, I think Darius Rice was the first. internet recruit. Don't you think so? He was definitely up there, one of the first ones that I remember. And I have no idea what happened to him. I wish him the best. What is that kid's name that went to high school instead of Kentucky? We'll figure it out. 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-775-4. Kentucky could end up with a player tonight. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:16:33 Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:17:45 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:18:04 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keer Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway.
Starting point is 00:18:20 Open your free Our Heart Radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen, kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering our meaning, businessman businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world. He doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:18:42 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in America. in history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:19:11 Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Tyrone Nash. That's it. That was his name. You came up with Tyrone right before you saw it.
Starting point is 00:20:03 I got the Tyrone. I didn't get the Nash. What a crazy story that was. Yes. Cavortney Barber. That's a good name from the past. Uh-huh. That's a good one. Yes.
Starting point is 00:20:10 They're getting to be fewer at Fyron. of us that can remember these names, you know, as you get older. Like, it used to be, if I did this show in 2011, everybody would have been able to name Tyrone Natch. You know, we get farther and farther from it. There's a whole other generation. They're like, oh, yeah, we lost Zion. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Yeah, no, I'm talking before that. There's a few early Calwins, I remember. Like, whatever happened to Stephen Zimmerman, the big seven-footer. I think he was like number one overall. We wanted him. He goes to maybe UNLV, and I don't know if he's ever been heard from again. That's right. And wasn't his mom somehow involved? That was one of the early Shannon mom ones. Yes, she'd do a lot of media too.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Yeah, she was like, get out of it. And Shannon would be like, mom, go home. Yep. Mom, this is not your time. This is for your son. You were just talking about you're getting kept up at night, drew by a local high school team. Yes, I mean, the Douglas Broncos, they've always, well, they're in my backyard. And sometimes with the football team, they're practicing. I'm listening to their music. I have my coffee. But the softball team. Do they cheat as much as the football team? No, no, none of them cheat.
Starting point is 00:21:13 Great, great athletics over there. But they are by far the loudest. Part of it is proximity to my home. It's the closest. But softball, they scream about every ball one scream. Ball two, scream. I would say to parents out there, if you want some parental advice, and who better, Mario, to give that to me.
Starting point is 00:21:29 If you want some parental advice, have your young daughter go into softball or volleyball. They are the two most positive sports. Because whether they, no matter what happens, they cheer. Yep. In volleyball, Shadam, whether or not they get a point, they give each other a high five after every play.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Well, in basketball, though, they get a high five if you miss a free throw. Yeah, but just for the free throws. They do it for every single play. After every play, just watch a volleyball game. They all clap, and then they give each other five, and then they go play the next play. Softball's the same way. I watch the College World Series. Those girls scream after every part.
Starting point is 00:22:09 pitch. Every single pitch. Like, if you had a kid and you were worried about them having self-esteem, just play those sports, they will always get affirmation. I don't even know who's winning or losing because it's just non-stop cheering. It just seems to be so much happiness over there. Also, when I'm grilling,
Starting point is 00:22:25 I think Christy Thomas, from UK over here does the intros. I'll be just flipping burgers, and I think I have the line of memorized just from hearing of them. Oh, good. Shannon, you watched part of the Bin Laden thing? I had some people write me. They seem to like it, I did. Yeah, that first episode is amazing. Just a lot of different, like, behind-the-scenes
Starting point is 00:22:45 stuff that you would never get to see otherwise. Yeah. And yeah, the guy that coming in with the stack of paper with all the warnings that there was going to be a terrorist attack. That was that he printed out stacks of papers. He said, so I can prove that I tried to warn everybody. That's a, that's, I remember when they did the 9-11 commission, they said one of the big problems with they had all these different branches of government and they never coordinated with each other and that that was kind of a example. I have a question. I haven't seen it yet, but it just seems a little odd to me that they let a video crew record all this at the time. Like, were they not afraid of maybe leaking something out? I think there's a lot of stuff
Starting point is 00:23:21 in government that gets recorded live for history. Because you know, it's like so many years after a president dies, they release all their papers. Like, I think I read Reagan's, the date of the release of his is coming soon. I don't know. No, when did Reagan die? Did he die in 2001, maybe, something like that? I think, I could be wrong about it. I think 25 years after a president dies. I may be making up that number.
Starting point is 00:23:49 2004. 2004, okay, so 2029 would be it. 25 years after a president dies, I think they release all of his stuff. And I think Reagan's is coming. And so part of it may be that once they had the video part of it, they would do that. Now, how they got access to put that in the Netflix, documentary i don't know exactly that camera crew that was in there during those meetings where they're bush and they're trying to decide what to do i'm like wow i can't leave they allowed this to be
Starting point is 00:24:17 videotaped thinking it might leak out somehow but they didn't really show those clips like they showed them sitting there but they didn't show what they said to each other baby okay so i haven't seen it yet yeah they don't really there's a lot of images it's just like a image yeah it's just like a picture and then these people talking okay over i watched the first episode last night too a lot of it stands out but one of my favorite parts is that the small group of CIA guys are over there, and they're kind of surrounded outnumbered. And then they go to some girl who was like the sorority vice president at USC.
Starting point is 00:24:46 Yeah, that was great. And she's manning the drones just picking people off. And she's just like this little blonde. They show her sorority. They hired her, Shannon. She was the vice president of her sorority. She hired, they got hired her at the CIA. And two years later, she's trying to search for bin Laden.
Starting point is 00:25:00 That's crazy. You would think you want somebody who has like, you know, years and years of experience. And you're bringing them right out of college. She's like, I went from plane. planning sorority parties to picking people off with drones. How in the world did that happen? She said the CIA was at a job fair at her school,
Starting point is 00:25:16 and one thing they liked is because in her position in the sorority, she would have to kick girls out based on things they did. She had to make tough decisions to, like, kick them out of the sorority. I don't know, but she was a badass. I can make tough decisions. With her letters on and her blonde hair, and that's who's out there just picking people off. Once you learn stuff,
Starting point is 00:25:34 there may be a lot that you don't want to know. Who's up first, Shannon? Noah. Noah, go ahead, Noah. 859, 2807. Go ahead, Noah. I remember last week, you guys were talking about, there was a caller who came in talking about
Starting point is 00:25:49 at the best in Florida. He was going there, find out good things to do whatever. And I remember you guys not giving a lot of good reflection from it, especially from Drew. So I wanted to give a bit of a better light towards it. So me and my wife,
Starting point is 00:26:03 we actually went there on our honeymoon this past November. And I got to tell you one of the most fun things that we had from it was jet skiing. with dolphins. Yeah, listen, I'm not trying to say Destin is the worst place in the world.
Starting point is 00:26:16 I'm just saying you're not going to find me there. But I think for you and your wife and the dolphins, it sounds wonderful. That sounds like a beautiful honeymoon. I just think there would be children there and germs and malaria.
Starting point is 00:26:31 That's why I would try to stay away from it. Yeah. Well, good. Well, I'm glad you had a wonderful honeymoon and I appreciate the call. I can say something nice about it. Crab Island is very nice there. I've been to Crab Island. That's a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:26:43 For me, it's just too many people in one spot. I, if you were to talk about, for me, the top five places I don't want to go. Okay. Number one, by far is Orlando. Okay. Orlando. You could take me to, I would rather spend a month in Knoxville than in Orlando. Wow.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Second is Myrtle Beach. Okay Myrtle Beach There's too many Like tie-died You know What do you call it? The t-shirts
Starting point is 00:27:16 Airbrush Airbrush T-shirts You know They don't even have good taffy Like Gatlinburg A number and then Virginia Beach Is another one
Starting point is 00:27:25 Too many biker gangs I've been there Yeah It's and then I would say Right there That next tier Is probably Ryan Destin I thought for sure
Starting point is 00:27:36 You'd have Gatlinburg In your list The thing about Gatlinberg is there's at least though, like at least these are my people. You know what I mean? It's not like, like at least they're Appalachian people there, some. But in those other places, it's just everybody is sweating and they are everywhere and they are like, you know, there's a lot of pasty skin, Drew,
Starting point is 00:28:01 and it's just too much for me in those cities. Yeah, it's about the time. I can enjoy the off season. I don't like when it's just every restaurant is sland. and you can't drive anywhere and the beach is just absolutely covered. If I'm on vacation, I need a little bit of... Yeah, I mean, the whole place of vacation to be able to spread out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:17 I don't need some kid throwing a ball and hit me in the face while they're lathering sunscreen and dripping it everywhere. That's not really what we need. We'll take a break. We are here at the KS Bar and Grill. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:28:37 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Shan, you think this is like the most American song in terms of like, if you wanted to express how do Americans look at the world, you would play this song. Probably say, yeah. Like, yeah, put the booty, you know, like that's kind of. Yeah, back then, you know, we're all extra patriotic right after that happened. Yeah. People love stuff like this.
Starting point is 00:29:03 No, they do. I mean, that's why I'm saying. I'm not even judging it. I'm just saying this is like the most American thing. You know, I put a flag on your truck. and then go kick somebody in the face. With that said, I do think it's a great song. Like, when it comes on, I'm singing it.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Yeah, you're ready to put a book on somebody's ass. Yeah, you're right. I mean, look at me. I'm ready at any given moment to do it. Your SpongeBob SquarePant shoes. They will just be yellow when I put the 859-280-2087 on the text machine. One person writes, Matt, sounds like such a fun guy not wanting to go to those places. I think I'm a fun guy.
Starting point is 00:29:42 I just don't like to go. I'm with you, like, where it's crowded. You would like Crab Island. You kind of get out in the water a little bit, but it's not deep, so you can, I mean, it's just like up to your knees, and it's more of an adult scene. I'm a, you know this. I can have fun anywhere, right? When we go on road trips, I enjoy anywhere we go.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Usually the more obscure place, the more fun you have. That's exactly right. I'm better off. You put me in a random town. I will have a lot of fun. Like that karaoke bar in Oregon. Exactly. Carrioki barwood penetration. That's my next song.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Perfect, perfect example. But it's just where there's a lot of people together, and specifically children, that I beat. Crowds, lines, children are three things you don't care for. And some of these places, especially during peak season, spring break, you're not getting away from it. Crowds line and children. That's exactly right. All right. Do me a favor.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Sir, everybody pick up your phones. All right. Got mine. Everybody got your phone? Mario, we got your phone. All right, I want you to go to either Apple, podcasts, or Spotify podcast. Whichever one it is that you use. I'm not going to try to convince you to your own service.
Starting point is 00:30:54 All right, and then put in the Matt Jones show because it is now up on podcasts and go ahead and subscribe to it. Oops, actually did the Matt Walsh show. I do not do the Matt Walsh show. Let me get the Jones. We used to. He's the only person I ever saw had a show in Lexington that failed. end up with a national show. All right, go to Matt Jones Show and hit follow.
Starting point is 00:31:15 And now you are subscribed. It is now up on podcast on Spotify and Apple until we change the name, which we will at some point. And everybody do that. And then hopefully we can rise up the rankings. But also you can listen episode one with Beaumani Jones. I have two guests book this week. Ryan McGee. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:34 From ESPN. And then Crystal Ball, who is a woman that I think people will find very interesting, who does political stuff. So those are the two guests. And one of them will put on the WHAS Thursday night, and then the other one will be podcast only. I hit five stars also. Yeah, if you want to go ahead and did you hit five stars?
Starting point is 00:31:52 No, I didn't see that option. Why didn't you hit five stars? I just followed it and didn't see the option there. Let me go back to it. I like the description. KSR's host Matt Jones sits down with fascinating individuals from all walks of life. But Billy wrote that. Well, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Billy wrote that. That's okay. And then the first, if you're one of these YouTube, kids. There's also, it's on YouTube and you can watch it. They had good lighting. I watched it. It was a good setup. I was actually proud of the eye heart effort. Had good lighting, sort of. We had it backlit. So there's times I do look like a, you know, that I don't get sleep. We need to front light it.
Starting point is 00:32:30 We backlit it. So it's not the best, but it's better than a lot of things we've done before. Yeah, I mean, I expected like an iPhone 3 with the smudge on the camera. It's an upgrade from what we normally. BOMONI has like the real setup. You can tell his looks like a professional TV thing. We're working on that. Mario, that's one of his projects. So check it out.
Starting point is 00:32:50 And I think you'll like the Bomani Jones interview if you listen. Actually, I'm here, Marty McGee. I've never met the guy. His name is not Marty McGee. Ryan McGee. Ryan McGee. I had to think for a second. His name is Marty Smith and there's Ryan McGee,
Starting point is 00:33:04 but he doesn't go by Marty McGee. Marty McGee. I don't like that show. Yeah. I've never many, but everybody says he's one of the nicest guys in the business. He might be the nicest guy. What I've always heard. Ryan McGee is as nice a person.
Starting point is 00:33:19 You know, when you see these people and you go, who's nice, who's not? There are a couple people that come off as nice that are not nice. But he is even nicer than he comes off. He's the best. Yeah, even the guys like the U.K. guys that work behind the scenes, they had nothing but praise for him. He treats those people. He's a great guy. We're going to do, you know, the big auto racing weekend is this weekend.
Starting point is 00:33:42 So we'll do that, but also college football, et cetera. Oh, he knows the racing. And like you all said, if you see anything he does, you can just tell how genuine he is. Yeah. He very much is. Thank you to somebody here, brought us donuts. We've talked about maybe doing a state donut ranking, inviting this summer, inviting all the people around the state that have donut places to bring donuts.
Starting point is 00:34:06 and we would blind rank the donuts to give a definitive top 10. Could it be a bracket? Not a bracket. I think we would set it up outside. People bring the donuts, and we would have a celebrity group of people taste, and then we would officially rank the donuts around the state. I think, and I'm being very sincere, that is the best idea you've ever had. Why is that?
Starting point is 00:34:31 I love donuts. That's my one weakness. The only thing is, somebody mentioned that people who are bringing them from across the state, are they at a disadvantage? Because they won't be, and I don't know how, but I don't know how you fix that. Maybe we have a regional winner. But I mean, I don't want it just to Lexington. I mean, we need to have Louisville and we need to have the town.
Starting point is 00:34:50 So I don't know how you do it because I don't want to make people them get stale or whatever on the way. But at the same time, I want to give people the chance out in Owensboro and Paducah to compete for state's best donors. Golden Glaze in Madison. Because we've got neighbors. There'd be a big disadvantage if they can just pull it out of the oven and we'll, walk it right over here that's right but I also think you know it could be good for their business if you have the definitive working and they're on it so got to give everybody a chance right please don't let it disappear like the waddy camp out we've got to do this one this is a must
Starting point is 00:35:19 are you saying you would like to be a judge I want to be chief judge you've been training for this forever it's right you're the you're the justice for inquisdust of the donut I love a good donut you want all of them to bring a big french vanilla coffee like you like to yes sugar it out yeah you you those are gross by the way when you drink them get them all over your face who's up next bill bill go ahead bill good morning guys uh you just inspired me to ask you a question but i have two quick points that i want to make first first uh joe pack's chicken i'm disappointed in the watchburg people who haven't flooded your the text message telling you how great it is some of the i don't even like fried chicken and i love that chicken yeah you know there have been a lot of people
Starting point is 00:35:58 there have been a lot of people that have mentioned joe pack's chicken and said it's great and uh so yeah just because i haven't said it doesn't mean that there were not a lot of people that mentioned that it was really, really great. So the next time I'm in that area, I'm going. But go ahead. You have to. All right. Second thing is Matthew Harper-Jones, I love you, and I love your program.
Starting point is 00:36:18 But, dude, there's not a chance in the world. If you had a kid, that kid would be all over social media. I know. It would not. It will not. Everybody keeps saying that to me that I will put my kid on social media when he or she is born, and then when he or she graduates, and maybe if they accomplish something,
Starting point is 00:36:36 like if they get a Nobel Prize in between. But otherwise, we'll keep them private. What's your question? You just mentioned donut. I have this debate with my wife all the time. Is a donut a breakfast or a dessert? I'll let you guys go. Breakfast.
Starting point is 00:36:52 It's a breakfast of champions is what it is. Yeah, I can't. I think it's a breakfast. It's not a healthy breakfast, but I do think a donut is breakfast. Definitely. It is a good dessert, though. Like these leftovers, I'm going to take one home,
Starting point is 00:37:05 and then tonight right before bed, I will probably eat it again. So it can go both ways, but I would definitely categorize as a breakfast. That's the beauty of the donut. It can be breakfast. It could be a snack at lunch. It could be a late-night snack. It can feel a lot of different food options for you. Sometimes I can look at you and see it, and it feels a lot of different food options for you.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Actually, I'm kidding with you. You've lost some weight. I try again. I'm trying to lose a little weight. What are you doing? What is the Rine Lemon workout routine? No workout whatsoever. Just tried to eat better.
Starting point is 00:37:38 What does that include? Donut. Bring me a free donut. I'm not going to turn it down. Do you cook a healthy meal at home or do you change what you're ordering out to eat? Sunday night I made pasta and grilled chicken. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:49 I'll the pasta back just a little. But, you know, the pasta doesn't necessarily help you with weight loss. No. It's got carbs. But I didn't want to eat anything greasy or, you know, it's trying to stay away from. So did you put sauce on the pasta and chicken? I did it a little bit. Okay.
Starting point is 00:38:02 And what kind of heavy sauce? What kind of sauce did you for? Alfredo. Okay, but that's the worst. I mean, there's a really good chance, just so you know, that chicken Alfredo pasta is maybe the worst thing you could eat on earth for losing weight. Well, I pout on the grilled chicken. But they're just adding a lot of chicken, though Shannon doesn't help because it probably leads to more sauce, which probably leads to more pasta. If you just smother that grilled chicken and that sauce, it doesn't help, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Yeah, it's like a salad where you pour ranch on it doesn't make the salad healthy. Yeah, I did have a big salad this weekend, too. With what? Cheese and baking soups. It had all the Asian, like, chips on it. I forget what they're called. That's a good salad. Yeah, that's a great salad.
Starting point is 00:38:49 But what dressing did you put on it? Whatever comes with it, the Asian vinegaret, oh, it's awesome. Yeah. I'm proud of you, too. I just would say when you're trying to lose weight. Don't eat at all these donuts? Faticini Alfredo is the one. one thing that maybe you
Starting point is 00:39:05 try to stay away. I try to get Ryan to work out. He won't do it. He won't do it. Why won't you do it? Even I do sometimes. Yeah, I have zero interest in working out. You know, you work out all your high school career and college career and I got done with it. That's a long time ago. That was 35 years ago. I'm done with it.
Starting point is 00:39:22 45 years ago. Do you ever just get out and walk the neighborhood? I do that. I'm not at the gym, but I try to get my steps in. Try to walk some. Walk the dogs around the neighborhood. That's pretty much it. Well, good. That's nice. Hey, Central Kentucky. If you're looking for a new furniture or appliance place or with beds, look no further than P-RATs. P-RATs is a locally owned and operated appliance furniture and mattress store.
Starting point is 00:39:44 How long has P-RATs been in Kentucky? As long as I've been here and I've been over 30 years. Mario, how long has it been in Kentucky, P-Ratts? 52 years. I want you to take how old you are, multiply it by three. P-Rats has been three Mario's. That's right, 75 years and they're experts at turning houses into homes, whether you're furnishing a new space or upgrading your your appliance. It's P-Rats for giving the living room, refrigerator for the kitchen. They can
Starting point is 00:40:09 help you with all of it. It's P-Rats. Remember, for 75 years, this has been their slogan, nobody beats P-Rats. We'll take a break. Be right back. That's KSR. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world,
Starting point is 00:42:25 he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one. of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history.
Starting point is 00:42:51 You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the Aihar Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:43:17 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Okay, so there seems to be some people struggling here. The Matt Jones Show is the one with my picture on.
Starting point is 00:43:50 There's another Matt Jones show that has a different person's picture, but that's not me. Not you. Clearly, I'm the one with me in it. Did you accidentally subscribe to the wrong one? Okay. He's having a big day, that guy. No, don't help him. I don't know who that is.
Starting point is 00:44:05 tell you what helped me, I searched Matt Jones, Beaumani, because then it puts that episode at the top. Okay. But I'm just saying there are other Matt Joneses, but not, not theirs. There's one called the Matthew Jones Experience, which I don't, that seems gross. That would that be fun. But it's the, what would that be, right? Well, we can say, we can't say it on the air. I, first of all, hush. I let, I let you drive yesterday, by the way, so you should. I wanted to do a joke so bad yesterday when we were all in the car. I wanted to get on the phone, like, Did you see what Trump just said? Well, my car, I couldn't fit us all in.
Starting point is 00:44:41 It was weird being on a road trip with you all, and Ryan was the one driving in 16 years or whatever it's been for me. That's true. I will say this, Shannon. You've ridden with Ryan. Yeah. He considers lanes a suggestion. Oh, yeah. Just a suggestion.
Starting point is 00:44:56 He's the worst driver. You drive really fast. I mean, you do. You drive really fast. Like, I thought I drove fast. You drive really fast. drive really fast. I'm trying to get you guys home, safe and sound.
Starting point is 00:45:07 Don't you agree? I took a little peek at the Spenometer. The spenometer goes up a little bit. Joe Lannardi put out his first Bracketology post the spring lineups. Has this as a two seed.
Starting point is 00:45:25 I'm not going to get into the matchup since I think we're a ways away from it mattering. But do you think over under Lenardi being correct? Are we going to be better than Lenardi's two seed or lower. Let's say one of those things happens. We're either a one seed or lower.
Starting point is 00:45:41 You can't say it's going to be a two seed. Which one would it be? What do you think is more likely? Be a one seed or be a three or less? I'm going to say he may be on. No, I didn't say. I literally said you cannot say that he's correct. Would you say it's more likely we're above it or below it?
Starting point is 00:46:01 That's what the choice I'd go above it then. I think we're going to be better than last year And most of the last year we were flirting with the two seed and a three seed So if I had to pick one of the other I'd go above it All right Yeah, I think I think I'll go one seed I know that's being very optimistic
Starting point is 00:46:17 Probably being more of a fan there than actually being objective But I really think they're going to have one of the better teams of the country The schedule's hard But as we saw last year as long as you win some of the big ones Losses won't hurt you too bad So I'll say one seed You know the good thing is the schedule is going to be such that like we could lose seven games and be a one seat.
Starting point is 00:46:36 Like, because we're going to have, I can't imagine there's going to be a team with a better schedule in the country than ours. I mean, we're going to play six, seven games at least against really great teams. Now, there's an ACC site that is claiming that they believe they know the SEC ACC matchups and that our game would be at home against NC State. That would be a huge disappointment, wouldn't it? Yes, because it's with the CBS Classic and the Champions, there's only so many times you could get North Carolina or Duke,
Starting point is 00:47:08 and this is one of those years where you don't have either one of them. So I'm hopeful it's one of them. That would be a huge disappointment. If we could have gotten Duke here. Yeah. And it's perfect because we could go there next year because it's two years we don't play them in the Champions Classic. If we don't get Duke and we get NC State, who stinks,
Starting point is 00:47:27 that would be a big disappointment to me, would it you? Well, is Duke never played at Rupp Arena? to be able to win like the one time they can finally host Duke at Rupp? Yeah, and we've never played there, have we? Not that I know of we've ever played there. I mean, you have a chance to make that matchup just for the good of the sport. Don't you have to put it together? You would think so.
Starting point is 00:47:45 But you would get Will Wade and that manager with the gold chain and all the attention? I know, but like they're not even going to be good. You cannot, if we're going to do this ACC challenge, you've got to put the best teams against each other. And we play Louisville every year, so we're not going to play them. North Carolina and Duke, we're going to get them in these champions in CBS classics, but we want to play those teams home and home. I want to play here against Duke. I want to go to Cameron Indoor and play there.
Starting point is 00:48:14 That's what college basketball is. Us playing Clemson on the road and NC State at home is not why you want to be in that class. No, I mean, Clemson was a good team last year. Obviously, you could tell you lost that game, but there just wasn't that much excitement when the schedule came out. It was on there. It wasn't much buildup to it. And even after it happened, it's kind of like, yep, moving on to whatever's next. Clearly, you can do it because when we had the Big 12 challenge, we played Kansas all the time.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Right. Even though they were in the Champions Classic, so why can't you do it? Hopefully this site's wrong. Got to be Duke or Carolina. I hope they're wrong because it needs to be Duke. Carolina, I don't think we can do it this time because we play them next year maybe. Is that right? In the CBS?
Starting point is 00:48:50 Yeah, I think we play them in next year. This is a one-off thing. We'll play someone else next year. But, I mean, they're going to want us to come there if we do it. So Duke is the one to do it. Who's next, Shannon? Jeremy. Jeremy.
Starting point is 00:49:01 Go ahead, Jeremy. First time, a long time. Who was? Name is Jeremy Zabel. Big Kentucky fan living in southern Indiana. Shout out. Been listening for so long. I won a $50 bet 10 years ago when I identified a bird chirping on the golf course,
Starting point is 00:49:21 and it was a sandhill crane. Oh, wow. That's a long time ago. Great memory. Yeah. I had a question for Ryan. would you rather go first against the gorilla or last against Bonnie Blue? And I'll hang up and listen.
Starting point is 00:49:39 Oh, my goodness. That's, we can't answer that question. Shannon, stop laughing. You can't encourage people. I didn't say it. First of all, it's going to lead to a lot of people Googling something that we don't need to. That's very true. I can't know what people do.
Starting point is 00:49:54 I can't control what you Google. I understand. But like, we don't need people. We need people subscribing to Matt Jones Show, not Googling Bonnie Blue. We don't need. need that. Can I tell you I went to this other Matt Jones podcast, and the first comment I see is, it was hard to hear with his nose whistle. The third comment on the same podcast came here for the nose whistle. Stop it. On the other guys' podcast? Yes. Yes. He's going to-
Starting point is 00:50:15 subscribe to the other guys' podcast. You're supposed to be subscribing to my podcast. His podcast is only a 3.3 out of five. What's this guy talking about? He's going to be very confused. Make the nose whistle comments on mine. You don't have to do it. I couldn't. Shannon. Do people see that picture? They think it's me? I guess. Just see the words. Oh, that's it.
Starting point is 00:50:37 They don't even pay attention to it. His podcast is dedicated to exploring life's defining moments and the powerful lessons they teach us. This poor guy is getting attacked with a nose whistle comment. Mario's saying, change the name. You say it's saying, I got to change it. So what is it going to be? Matt spaining or interrupted?
Starting point is 00:50:57 Is Matt Splaining good? I don't think it's good. I thought Matt Chat was better than that. Why don't you think it's good? Matt Spanning's a good name, isn't it? No. Ma'am, what do you think? Matt Splaining?
