Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:03:05 Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. This figured out which one to subscribe to is going to be driving people crazy. Like, you know, okay, so it's not the one with me with the visor. That's the old one. I haven't done anything on there in like three years. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:26 It's the picture of me. If you know what I look like, it's that one. And it's not the picture of the other people that may have the same name, but they're not, they're not me. Okay. This is going swimming. It's going to be great. That's why I, well, you know. I can't wait to listen to the other podcast.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Don't listen to the other podcast. You don't need any life advice. People who give you life advice are all full of it. That's my other thing. I don't want to hear, like, self-help. Well, that's a whole other rant that I don't need to go on. 859-280-2287. We apparently did play Duke in Rupp.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Really? In 1979 in the N-I-T, we played Duke in Rup, which I did not know that. Did not know that either? I had no idea. Did you know? Have we ever played it in Cameron? Not that I know of, but I'm not sure. I didn't know we had played him in Rob.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I had no clue. Real quick. Matt Jones Show. Matt Jones Show. If you use podcast, then you get the old one. Matt Jones Show. Probably should have done a better job. But with me, this look for my picture.
Starting point is 00:04:37 All right, real quick, I don't know if you saw this report yesterday, but Ross Delinger, who has been the best. If you do not follow him on Twitter or X or whatever, you should. He has been the best at Sorrelinger. of breaking down the NIL, the lawsuit that's the new rule. Like if you want to be like, how do I understand what's going to happen in the future of college sports? He's probably the best one. He said that the power for conferences are going to force the members of their conferences
Starting point is 00:05:09 to sign an agreement that they will follow all rules that are made by the NCAA or they will be kicked out of the conference. Now, you may say to yourself, why are they doing that? That looks good. My goodness. What is that? Prime rib sandwich. Oh, love a good prime rib sandwich.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Bacon jammer. Oh, I love that. We'll take those, test those during the break here. That's, all right, now you got me distracted. But they will follow all rules or they can be kicked out of the conference. They may remember last week I talked about this. Tennessee State Legislature passed a law. that said the schools in Tennessee do not have to follow any NCAA rules,
Starting point is 00:05:53 which I have no idea why. I know their legislature's crazy, but that, I didn't understand that. And you may have remembered me saying that's a good way to have it all turn into chaos. Well, the NCAA, I guess, has seen it. And the power for conferences are going to make all of their members sign a document that says, if you do not abide by this, we can kick you out of the comfort. Wow. So Tennessee and Vandy are on the clock now.
Starting point is 00:06:20 They're going to make all their members sign it. It is expected all are going to sign it, but the schools in Tennessee are not sure. So this is how I read it. I read that as Tennessee, the university, got their legislature to pass this, right? Because why else would they have passed it? Unless the school told them to do it.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Wouldn't you think? That's a big driving force you would think. their list. And the SEC probably upset has now flipped it and said, okay, that's your move, here's our counter move. Yeah. Do you think there's a world where the SEC, ACC, because remember I said if the SEC kicks them out, they'll just go to the ACC. But now it looks like they thought about that, and now the ACC is going to make their people sign it too. Is there a world where Tennessee would take an action that would keep all of the power for conferences from having it? Andy Staples has an update that sounds like Tennessee's going to double down.
Starting point is 00:07:18 He's just going to talk about it on the show today, so I don't know the exact details. But it looks like we're about to get the NCAA versus the state of Tennessee and this and the standoff. And it includes all Power 5 conferences and some other conferences too. So they wouldn't have anywhere to go if they're really getting a standoff. You know what? I hope the NCAA takes Tennessee and tells them to go shove it. I mean it. Like I am generally, if you listen to this show, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:43 a couple things. I'm pro the players getting paid. I'm pro treating this as a business. I'm pro the money for people. I'm, you know, the money's there. I'm pro it getting split. But I also am a believer in rules. You can't have anarchy in this world. If you have anarchy, one thing that's clear about human nature is if you have no rules, we will devolve to the lowest form of humanity. I mean, just look at the looting thing, which we'll talk about later. So Tennessee wants to have a system of no rules. None. Well, you can't do that.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Because if you do that, it'll just become absolute chaos. Even in capitalism, you always hear me say, we're just capitalism. But even in capitalism, we have rules, right? We have minimum wage, and we have, like, workplace standards. I mean, we have rules. Tennessee is suing asking their children. to be no rules just for us to become cavemen, which that may be how they want to live in Tennessee
Starting point is 00:08:46 with all their nastiness, but like that's not the way to live in humanity. And I hope the conferences, Ryan, tell Tennessee, and kick them out. You know, it's kind of like the Livtor. That's all great in theory, but now go on your own and see how you do. Tennessee, you know what father? Okay, good luck.
Starting point is 00:09:05 See how you do. I'm for telling them that. Tennessee needs the SEC more than the SEC needs Tennessee. You're exactly right. You know, so if they want to go play in Conference USA and try to bully everybody, bye. Go see how things are on the conference USA. Good luck.
Starting point is 00:09:19 Good luck. Let's see how exciting it is when you play, you know, Sam Houston State every game. Good luck, Tennessee. Yep, good luck. Let's see if you make the playoffs when you're playing Sam Houston State every day. You go fill that 100,000 seat stadium playing up against Texas Grande Rio Valley.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Good luck. If this or any other state, be like, come on, just participate. Let's move on with this. But since it's Tennessee, I hope they fight it, and it just gets nasty. So it's the sport versus the Valls. And I guess it includes Memphis and all the Tennessee schools. I mean, Valls are the ones we're focused on. But I hope this gets crazy.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Yeah, let Tennessee, Memphis, Vandy, and, you know, Schwani. You have a conference. Let's see how many people watch it. You know, a lot of people want to see that great Schwani LMU matchup. Go for it. Let's see how it goes. So what advantage would have placed like Middle Tennessee had in, maybe, in this new rule.
Starting point is 00:10:09 There's no advantage. Do you think anyone would care about a league full of only Tennessee schools unless you were in Tennessee? No. Of course not. No one would care. So this is the University of Tennessee saying we want to do our own thing and we want there to be no rules governing us. But, you know, let me just, I'll use the analogy that I've used talking about and you know, you can yell at me if you want.
Starting point is 00:10:39 But this is the analogy I use about some of the stuff when I talk about Trump. People all look at things just about Trump. You're not thinking about who the next president's going to be. If you establish there can be no rules, then what's the next guy going to do? And then what's the next guy going to do? Similarly, if Tennessee wants there to be no rules, then one of these other schools going to do. And next thing you know, you are in chaos and you cannot have sports without some rules. Now, we can argue what the rules should be.
Starting point is 00:11:07 And we can argue whether or not they should be more pro player, more pro school, more pro whatever. But you can't have no rules. And that's what Tennessee's asking for is no rules. I like that they're sitting there thinking, we're so big and bad. Well, the ACC will take us. Well, now the ACC can't take you. That's why it's very smart for the SEC to get all the metric. And they should because you don't want the state of South Carolina now passing this rule.
Starting point is 00:11:32 And then the ACC's got to do the same thing with Clemson, right? Yeah. So far it seems only be Tennessee even considering this, and I just hope it goes to distance, and we have like a mess around, find out situation, and they really get left out of something. That seems like an extreme ending. But I hope that's what we get to.
Starting point is 00:11:48 But I hope it happens. You know, now, if Tennessee sued the NCAA, what would happen? I don't know. I'd have to think about it because it's very, it would be very complicated. But, you know, they got lawyers at the NCAA. They've probably looked into it. Bring it on. Bring it on.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Something I would be fascinated to know why the legislature passed that law. The University of Tennessee clearly wanted it or they don't pass it. And it would be interesting, Ryan, to see what those discussions were. Yeah, Tennessee football is a big driving force for probably like what Kentucky basketball is in Kentucky. You know what? It carries a lot of power that Tennessee football does. I'm sure if they wanted it to try to do that, the legislature is going to probably pass it for them. Yeah. Who's up next, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:12:29 Let's go to Jacob. Jacob. Go ahead, Jacob. Hi, good morning. I hope you all are having a great day. The great morning so far. I said a quick question. I was curious if you ever thought about actually kind of writing a book about the history of KSR,
Starting point is 00:12:45 kind of how everything's developed and kind of the stories and things, you know, kind of all the – I guess you're talking about like a memoir. My view is if you're going to write a memoir, it's time for you to be dead soon after. Like there's no reason to write a memoir like halfway through. Like I've seen some people who have like three biographies. So I think I would enjoy writing a memoir, but I'm going to let everything. I'm going to try to finish everything first. The Mitch, the Mitch Please book was like almost like a personal journal thing.
Starting point is 00:13:18 I think before I do the whole, this was what my career was. I probably want to finish it so you don't have to do like, like Kim Kardashian already has one biography and I hear she's writing two. What is she, I can't even imagine reading one of them. And now she has two. So I think let's, I'll probably wait a while. But go ahead. I was thinking like something along the lines of like what James Andrew Miller did with like with ESPN or CAA,
Starting point is 00:13:42 like oral history. I think, I don't know, I just think there'd be a lot of interesting stories. And especially for me personally, as a new listener to the show, I think a lot of people will be interested in getting into the history of everything developed and kind of. Well, I appreciate it. Thank you. All of your pictures. Yeah. Maybe, maybe one day we'll do something.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Maybe do that in like a podcast form. Ryan, do you. The Matt's Planning podcast. See, it sounds worse coming from you. I don't know why. Who's next? Let's go to Mike. Mike, 859-28027.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Go ahead. Yeah, I had two comments. One, going back through when you were talking about the big recruits and the hype and that we didn't get. The first recruiting thing that I can remember is Ralph Samson not coming to Kentucky. Yeah, but he was the number one player in America. Yeah. So, I mean, and he ended up being pretty good.
Starting point is 00:14:38 Yeah, and then the other thing I wanted to say is your show is the best when you don't stick to sports. That's when you're the most interesting, so keep that up. Yeah, well, thank you, thank you. Although the counter to that would be you know the least when you do talk about sports, which I grant you is probably true. This first segment was typical of this show. We spent the whole first segment talking about a potential big basketball recruit, and our first caller was about Gagony's honeymoon and Destin.
Starting point is 00:15:05 You know, that's this show in a nutshell right there. I think you've told me this, but I don't remember. Where were your two honeymoon? Orlando, the first one. Second one was in King King. Wait, wait, wait. You went on to Orlando on your honeymoon? Yep.
Starting point is 00:15:18 After we just did that Orlando bit, you didn't want to chime in with that? Loved it. I loved. Did you have kids at the time? No kids. So you went to Orlando as adults without children. And loved every second of it. It was fantastic.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Where did you go? I stayed at the Dolphin Resort, which is in the Epcot area. Did you go to Disney World? Oh, every day. Yeah, it was awesome How do we not know this? You went on your honeymoon to Disney World? The first one, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:44 That's awful. It was fantastic. That's weird. Yeah, I mean, like, you know, adults at Disney World without children, isn't that strange? No, it's very romantic. What is romantic about it? You know, you get to see the fireworks show at night, you know, from your hotel room. Matt hates fireworks, too.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I hate fireworks. Yeah. It was glorious. This was in 1991. Wow. So you would get up and you would go like ride the teacups? Yeah. And that was your wedding?
Starting point is 00:16:18 Yeah. And then maybe the next day. Is that what she wanted or is that what you wanted? Both. I think it was fair to say. Both. That's on you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:27 I enjoyed every second of it. Wow. Okay. I can't believe that. It didn't work out. What was the second one? Can't go. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:45 You're the only person that could get away. Ryan knows I love him. He can't get mad at me. No. Orlando. I can't. That's the worst. I've been to Disney World probably a dozen times.
Starting point is 00:16:56 I'm not surprised by that. School's almost out. The deals are just getting started at Don Franklin. Over 6,000 due and certified pre-owned vehicles. With over 6,000 vehicles, 27 dealerships across the bluegrass, it's Don Franklin. Get a safe, reliable car and a huge selection of 2025 models at Don Franklin Auto. driven by family. Is your third, is that where you're going to elope to this time, or do you think you need to pick a different place?
Starting point is 00:17:22 Well, I think, you know, we probably don't need to talk about the third time. That didn't go over too well with the other girl. She wondered about that. Yeah. She didn't enjoy that conversation. She's like, you know, keep her name out of our filthy mouth. Okay, well, there you go. Well, we'll take a break and be right back. Mr. Orlando here.
Starting point is 00:17:40 This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning. internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:18:39 And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:18:58 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:19:13 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
Starting point is 00:20:02 When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? the largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Got some Disney adults on the text machine upset. One person writes, Matt, you go to baseball games and read a book. How dare you say something about Disney World? Much more reasonable to go to a baseball game and read a book than be an adult and go to Disney World without your children. It's just unreasonable. It's magical.
Starting point is 00:21:27 I'm sure it is magical. For children, you're an adult. And it's your honeymoon. It's supposed to be romantic. It was very romantic. This song playing right now. Is this romantic? This set the mood?
Starting point is 00:21:37 You know, he just plays on a loop when you go there. It is. And you have to ride the ride because there's one clown that's crying. They all have happy face, but there's one clown in that ride that's crying. And that's the people on the... her honeymoon. So we just tried our new prime rib sandwich, which was excellent. And you guys had the, what is it? Bacon jam burger. We had it way back in the day. It was one of my favorite things, and it took a step away from the menu for a while. Now it's back. Back. So, yeah, so we're here at
Starting point is 00:22:05 KS Bar and Grill. We've got new menu items, come try them, the catfish. Now we have the prime rib sandwich, which I really liked. And how was the bacon jam burger? Outstanding. It's very, very good. So thank you to Monique for coming up with those, and they are debuting. Now, Railbird is coming. You need to get your tickets for the parking. Listen, if you're going to the Railbird, there's going to be nowhere in this city to park. I'm just warning you, folks. They are not allowing you to park at Kroger Field now.
Starting point is 00:22:34 There's going to be nowhere for you to park. This is right across the street, so you need to get your thing. We will be sold out, but I want to sell it to KSR people before the general masses with their hippiness come over here. So go ahead and get in there and get it. Who else plan? You got Jelly Roll. You got Lainey Wilson. I believe so.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Red Clay Strays, who I like. I'm going to go see them. As a big railroad fan, the best part of parking here is because you could, or at least in the years past, I think you still can. You can leave and go back in. It was so hot out. I just came, ate lunch and had a beer here and walked back over. If you park here and you come to the restaurants, you can come get some cool here. Like when somebody that you don't like,
Starting point is 00:23:16 Is playing like, I don't know, who stinks on the card? Mojo Thunder is at the very bottom. Yeah, I don't really like, I'm not a huge fan of Jelly Rose music, but he was so nice to me, I can't say he stinks, because he was like a really, really nice guy. So I don't want to say him, but who else is on it? Is there like a Luke Brine on there or something? Rattlesnake milk.
Starting point is 00:23:39 See, I feel like I would like them, though. That sounds like a name of someone I would love. It does. Mama said string band. Oh, well, I know I would like them. I mean, I don't know they're at the bottom of the list. We got some folks here from Hopkinsville. And then this couple right here lives in Vienna, Austria.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Yeah. Vienna, Austria, which is such like, if you were saying where's a place you could live and you just wanted to live where it was like where it's European, but it's not like you're living in a place you can't understand. And, you know, just Vienna, it's clean. It's a very, very clean place. Vienna might be, I don't love Austria the most as the country in Europe, although I do like it. But Vienna would probably be maybe the best city if you just were looking for a place.
Starting point is 00:24:25 I'm like, I got to get out of America and I want to live somewhere. I think Vienna would be right there. I agree. It's been a week there. My brother was stationed there for two years. So my parents and I, we all went over for a week. Took two of my boys. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:24:35 It was so much fun. It was beautiful. I mean, you guys walk everywhere, but it was beautiful. Yes. You do walk everywhere. It's a good thing. Well, you don't have to. You can take public transportation.
Starting point is 00:24:45 It was everybody wanted to walk. Well, that's because they probably want to. I love to walk. A walking city is, yeah. That's the one, the only thing I dislike about Lexington is it's very hard to walk here. It's very,
Starting point is 00:24:56 like outside of downtown, it's hard to walk. Louisville's a little better, but not significantly. You know, we just, we don't really have great walking too. I'm out Winchester Road.
Starting point is 00:25:06 You're definitely not walking around there. I wish I could walk downtown. Did you eat some vener schnitzel when you were there? Yeah. Put another shrimp on the bobby? Dumb and Dumber Joke. In Vienna?
Starting point is 00:25:16 Floyd Christmas joke, dumb and dumber. Okay. Good night, mate. Around the horn is ending Friday after 23 years. It's been on TV for 23 years. It'll have its last show on Friday. This week they're bringing back the people that have done shows for them for kind of one final go-around and then it will end Friday.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Did you ever enjoy that show? I mean, I watched it. I didn't really enjoy it that much. I mean, I remember something like Woody Pidge. He was on there. He's been on there for like 50 years. He's still on there. See, I don't watch it, but I know the show.
Starting point is 00:25:49 It is. It didn't do anything for me. Okay, well, that's a nice goodbye for them. What about you? My tribute's not going to be a lot better, but I did for years. Didn't miss a day. I mean, it was like must-see TV in the afternoon with PTI here in the last several years. I haven't really kept up with much ESPN daytime TV,
Starting point is 00:26:05 but I was a big fan when it first started. Jay Marriotti. Who else was on there? Jay, Adon Day. It started with the dude. Tim Kallishth, Woody Page, Jay Marriotti. You're right. Jay Adande was on there a lot to start with.
Starting point is 00:26:21 Jackie McMullen would do it a lot. Then we got to Pablo Torre and Kate Fagan. A lot of people they put on now I've never seen before. One of the guys that's on there I'm actually working with tonight on ESPN radio, that David Dennis Jr. guy. But yeah, they've been doing it for a long time. If nothing else you'd turn in just for Woodrow. Page's
Starting point is 00:26:43 chalkboard behind him. That's right. Somebody just gave you a Disney hat. Disney Tokyo. Oh, Disney Tokyo. What did you just pull that out of? Just talked about that late 10 minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:26:53 I know. He apparently had it in his car, ready to go. Who's up next, Shand? Mary. Mary. But good luck to the 23 years, long time to be on TV. It is.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Do you remember that the original host was not Tony Reale? Who was the original host? Anybody know? Original host around the horn? Going once? Somebody we know. Twice? Is it Max Kellerman?
Starting point is 00:27:13 Max Kellerman? Max Kellerman. Hang on just a second, man. Max Kellerman hosted the show for the first two years. People don't remember that. And then he got put on first take and they moved.
Starting point is 00:27:23 I used to watch it. Moved Reilly. All right, go ahead. Okay. So you all earlier were talking about the NCAA having structure and rules. Yes. Matt, this is going to be for you, I guess.
Starting point is 00:27:36 What makes you think that the House settlement is going to solve the problems that currently are associated with the NCAA or that they're going to put the right rules and guidelines Well, I didn't say they were going to. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. As a former Division I girls basketball head coach, the NCAA does not make rules and regulations that apply to everybody.
Starting point is 00:27:59 I'm going to get off and I'm going to let you know what you mean. I don't know what do you mean they don't make rules that apply to everybody. What does that mean? They don't. They don't follow through. It depends on what school year. associated with. It depends on what your name is. Well, they know you're talking about two different things. You're talking about, man, you're talking about, no, hang on. You're saying they don't
Starting point is 00:28:20 fairly apply the rules, which you may be correct on. I'm not going to, I'm not going to claim to know the answer. That's a different question, though, than whether or not they make rules, because they do make rules. Whether they fairly apply them is different. So if you're asking me, what makes me confident that they will make rules, they've always made rules. Now, will they fairly apply them? I have no idea. Okay? But the con, but here's what I know won't work.
Starting point is 00:28:47 No rules. No rules at all is guaranteed to fail. Now, you're right. Rules won't work unless they're fairly applied. But the idea of anarchy, which is what Tennessee wants, is guaranteed to fail, at least in my view. What rules do we currently have in place, though? Well, that's a long answer,
Starting point is 00:29:05 and we've got to go to break, but I appreciate to call. I wonder who that was. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at the KS Bar Grill. Lunchtime, come on out and say, hello.
Starting point is 00:29:27 It is supposed to get cold this weekend, isn't it? It's supposed to get cold, I think, all this week. Like, 50% chance of rain almost all day to day, temperature in the low 60s. I didn't ask for that level of detail. I just said it was supposed to get cold this weekend. right? I'm pulling it up now, so to confirm. I think it's all this week. It's going to be like in the low 60s. All right.
Starting point is 00:29:48 So it dips down to the 50s on Saturday. 50s on Saturday. Well, that's no good. It's Memorial Day. It's crazy that this is Memorial Day. It doesn't feel like Memorial Day yet, does it? It doesn't. We've got a golf scramble next week, too. Yeah, next Friday is okay. Remember, we're at the Mountain Laurel Festival this Friday in Pineville, for those of you at that part of the state. First time we will have ever gone to the Mountain Laurel Festival. I've heard of the Mountain Laurel Festival for 40 years. Never been.
Starting point is 00:30:12 It's my first time to go. Riley Green, Shannon, is at Railbird. And somebody writes, Matt, if you want to skip one at Railbird to go to KS Bar and eat, Riley Green, you would hate. Not really. Yes. I don't, I would. It's not that I would hate him.
Starting point is 00:30:32 I know I already do. I've seen, not as a human being. I'm sure he's a wonderful fella, but just I've seen his. his stuff and he's got like country music singers in general should not be good looking or at least not in the traditional sense they shouldn't have they shouldn't have slick back hair they shouldn't have killer smiles blue eyes that he has all of that and then he's in some controversy because he's what is it he's he's like had like six baby mamas or something that are all singers I don't know I mean that might be not incorrect I don't know I know I know I know of him and that
Starting point is 00:31:06 crowd will be mostly women to your point if there was a time to take a break And they do really like him, don't they? Yeah, I've seen the lines for him in Nashville, even when he was much smaller and just playing local bars. I mean, they go crazy for him. Yeah. So you want him to look like Luke Combs, just kind of just got off your truck. I don't really like Luke Combs, but I do think he's talented, and he, yes, he needs to look like that. Or you can look like George Strait where you are good looking, but you're a cowboy.
Starting point is 00:31:35 What you can't look like is you could be doing an ad for a hair. salon and then also being a country music singer. I don't accept that. He's got the big mustache, too. That makes him go crazy. I like Luke Combs. He's bald. He's fat.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Doesn't really do the bro country music too much. Not a day difference from Riley Green. The NBA finals are almost here, and every second counts with Draft King's Sportsbook, official sports betting partner of the NBA. You're not just watching history. You're betting on it. Bet $5. If your bet hits, you win $300 in bonus bets with my code KSR.
Starting point is 00:32:09 It is at $3.000. Draft Kings start now. The crown is yours at Draft Kings. Starting point is 00:32:24 Nicks and Pacers start this well. Tonight, I think, is the Thunder and the Timber Wars. Are you excited for these series in the NBA? Actually, I am. I've been kind of keeping up with it, especially since the Pacers have been hot, but I think it, O.K.C., they're the team to beat. They seem to be playing the best. Don't count out my Pacers, though.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I'm counting them out. Three of the four teams have Kentucky guys, so I'm rooting for them. You got Shea and Casin Wallace with Oklahoma City. You got Julius Randall with Minnesota. And then you got Carl with the Knicks. And Rob Dillingham. Yeah. Every team has one.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Jackson's not playing right now, but he's on the base. He's hurt, but he would get a ring. Okay, so think about that. We have a dude on every one of the four teams. but in the case of Carl, Shea, Wallace, and Randall, you got starters. I mean, Wallace isn't a starter, but he plays a lot. You got not just starters. I mean, Shea is Oklahoma City's best player.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Carl's probably the Knicks' second best player, and Randall might be the Timberwolf's second best player. Like, we've got big-time guys playing in it. And they've all been playing great. Even Wallace off the bench has made a huge impact. Julius Randall, I mean, he would be a team's best player the way he's playing right now if he didn't have Anthony Edwards next to him. I'm for the Knicks, but growing up, I was all Pacers. Like, younger me would be so disappointed right now.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I have the Reggie shirt where he's doing the choke. I hated John Stark's. I hated Patrick Ewing, but I've completely flipped, and I'm behind New York now. I'm behind the Knicks. Boo. The Bing Bong, the dude sitting on top of the billboard up there. How do you get there? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Shannon, how did that guy get on top of the billboard last Friday night? Did you see that? Yeah, I don't know how. Has anybody feel that? Liquid courage. Because he was also wearing flip-flops. He was wearing flip flops and he got on top of the billboard. I want to know how he did that.
Starting point is 00:34:10 That was crazy. Hitting the Pacers fan with the trash might have been a little over the top. Did you see that? Yeah. That was a bit much. Does everybody know what they're talking about? This Pacer fan was walking down the street and somebody pulled up a bag of trash and just hit him in the head with. That could have had glass in it.
Starting point is 00:34:23 That could have been bad. So Tyrese Halliburton, this was kind of cool, found him and is bringing him to game four. Cool. From New York, bringing him to Indiana so he can sit. That's cool. That's a cool. That's a cool. That's very cool.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Yeah, a lot of time players will do something like that. You never hear of it. That's a great gesture he's doing. I've seen the Knicks get mocked for having these parties after just getting to the conference finals, but it has been a long time since they've had success. I think it's cool to see them all falling out there on 7th Avenue like they've already got a championship parade.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Are you excited for the Shea Gilgis-Alexander era in the NBA? I mean, he's probably going to win the MVP, and he's been awesome here. He's a Hall of Famer in the making. I think he's just going to be a superstar. I get better and better. He's gotten better every year in the league so far. Can I remind you something, sir?
Starting point is 00:35:08 Cal initially started Quad A. Green over him. Shea was a backup. I'm just going to remind you. Cal initial. All right, so you can give Cal credit because he got Shea Gilges-Alexander. He was not a McDonald's All-American, if you remember. Right. And he wasn't really highly ranked when Cal Win got him.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Then he rose after Kentucky signed him. But he initially was, so you got to give Cal credit for seeing that talent. You also do wonder how did Quade Green. start over at the beginning. Yeah, that was bizarre. I guess Quate coming back, got the slight nod, but a few weeks into the season, we knew who needed to be starting, and then you get to that Louisville game, and that was Shea's big breakout moment. Speaking of starting, one person writes, Matt, I want you to go on record right now, all five of you, what is the starting lineup, including whether or not Otega comes back or not. Otega's coming back. So, I mean, he had said that,
Starting point is 00:36:03 but he's going to come back. By the way, Jalen Lowe, our future point guard will be on KSR tomorrow. Really? Just a little heads up. He's going to be joining us tomorrow. Nice. First time we've been able to talk to him. Does he know that I called Pitt Trash in the first hour?
Starting point is 00:36:19 Was he listening? That's probably why he came. So starting lineup. Everybody agrees the point guards Jaylen Loeb. Correct. Right? That's uncontroversial. Everybody agrees Otega O.A. starts.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Correct. Correct. Yep. Uncontroversial. All right. Who's the center? I think Branding. Garrison, it's his job to lose. We think there's no way Brandon Garrison doesn't start.
Starting point is 00:36:40 If we're talking about the beginning of the year, Brandon Garrison. Yep. So Brandon Garrison, so you feel like there's three spots locked up? Yes. Nothing can change those. All right, who is the, depending on what you consider Oway, a two or a three, who's the other one? See, I think they may go a little small and go Aberdeen there and just play start those three guys. I'm going Aberdeen. He's got the ring. He can play defense. I think he's got a little better shooting that he was able to show up Florida because he was just behind three great guards. So I got low Aberdeen O'Way. Who's the other contender for that?
Starting point is 00:37:13 Jasper Johnson? Jasper. Colin Chandler, if he has a big breakout. So you think there's a chance they're going to bring in Jasper Johnson, top 10 recruiting, he's not going to start. I think he's going to be a little behind to start the season. He can't really guard right now. I think that'll take some time. I mean, he's going to be able to score, but I think by the end of the year, he's going
Starting point is 00:37:29 to be playing quality minutes, but I worry about his defense just right out of the gate. You are zigging. I'm zagging. I'm going to say Jasper Johnson starts. Aberdeen's a six-man. I think he's, I think there's no way Jasper Johnson came here to come off the bench, and I think he's going to be an explosive talent, and they'll work through his mistakes.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Now, there could be a time later in the year that it flips, if all the things you're talking about are correct. But I'm going to pick Jasper starts at the beginning. Then at the four, could be Diabate, could be the Cam Williams. from Tulane could be Yellovich, who's having a great playoffs. Let me tell you, this Croatian kid, I don't think he's just, you know, some dude from Croatia. He's playing on a pro team in the pro playoffs, and he's getting like 15 a game.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Who you like starting here? He just had 20 points and 14 rebounds in a playoff game. Yeah, and he's playing with grown men, too. I mean, it's like, you know, who knows how good. Like, Evisich, when he came here, had not played against those guys. He was all, this dude is playing in these games, but who you got? I'm going with Diabate, but the shooting guard and power forward, I think is a fluid situation as the year goes on. But to start the year, I'll put Diabonte there.
Starting point is 00:38:47 When we had this scenario come up earlier, I picked Yellovich, but I think I'm flipping to Diabate now and have Yellovich off the bench. And I like Jasper maybe coming off the bench, like then Kobe Brea rose last year before he had to start. I think it's the other way. I think Aberdeen does that. I think, but. I was like the guy with the ring on his finger. He's got a little bit of a head start on the freshman. That's a fair point.
Starting point is 00:39:06 I'm going to say Diabate starts, but I think you're going to see. I would say if Brandon Garrison is not focused, you can see where Yelovic starts over him. I mean, I think Garrison is definitely in that position now, but if he comes here and he hasn't improved like Pope thought, I could see that flip and Drew and see, especially if you have Diabate at the four who gives you that physicality, you can then bring a guy like Yellovich in as your center.
Starting point is 00:39:37 And whatever the starting five is, I think when we look at the numbers at the end of the year, the minutes aren't going to be that different between the guys starting and the guys coming off the bench. I think there's going to be a lot of guys playing 20-ish, low 20 minutes, and Pope using his whole bench. 17 minutes a game, Colin Chandler, over under. I'm going over because I'm going to slot him as Lowe's backup
Starting point is 00:39:57 if they want to go that route. Same. Playing a little bit of multiple guard positions. You're going to go over? Yeah. What do you think? Yeah, same. I think he's going to be the backup point guard,
Starting point is 00:40:05 and we saw how Pope likes to, you know, that's why we haven't mentioned Jaden Quatens. I think he's going to be on the floor a lot, maybe not start, but he'll get as many minutes as Brandon. I'm still not convinced he's going to be ready to me. Yeah, we're just doing game one here. Yeah. Trent Noah, 12 minutes over under.
Starting point is 00:40:23 I worry about Trent this year. I will go slightly under, a minute under. Yeah, I go a little under. I think he's a guy that may get lost in the shuffle with his rotation. I still think he's going to make a big leap, but I just think there's so many bodies. Mark Pope is not running out of people this year. No. It is clear he has made the decision.
Starting point is 00:40:42 I am not running out of folks, and I'm going to have enough guys no matter what. 859-280-2287. We will take a break here at KS Bar and Grill for lunch. New bacon jam burger prime rills. It's gone. We ate the whole thing. Yes. By we, you mean you. We will take a break and be right back.

Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.

Starting point is 00:44:47 You can see if you have something that needs to be removed or looked at. Very simple. Dr. Skaggs and his staff, it's great. Go to 708, 421. That's not enough numbers. 270 842 99 that's also not a number of numbers stay hot 270 842 842
Starting point is 00:45:08 1999 there we go there it is that's enough numbers all right or you can go to kentucky skin cancer center dot com Kentucky skin cancer center dot com we have some breaking news shan running a nah the athletic patriots writer reports Bill Belichick and Jordan Hudson are engaged.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Oh, wow. Wow. Wow. Oh, boy, ain't messing around. Look at that. She ain't messing around. As Bumani said, this was her one chance and fancy she didn't let him down. She's got him engaged.
Starting point is 00:45:51 We will see if the, we'll see hopefully good pre-nup. And how about that? Love. Love comes together. Knows no bounds, Drew Franklin, at least according to the athletic. Yeah, about two weeks ago, I saw they were at a restaurant in New York, and someone noticed a big fat ring on her hand, and I thought, surely, he didn't already.
Starting point is 00:46:11 But I guess this confirms that. That's a trusty source saying it happened. Hey, listen, so now, so he's still going to be the coach? She's going to be there? She's going to be the assistant coach? She's no longer, she's not going to be Miss Maine, so she doesn't have to worry about those duties. can focus right in on North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:46:31 I have a question. Yes. Do you think he'll take her name or maybe hyphen both names? Is he going to be Bill Hudson, Belichick now? It's a good question. Maybe he should be. Hey, listen, you know, life is hard enough, Ryan, on your own. If you find somebody who you can walk with that makes things easier,
Starting point is 00:46:54 they could go to Disney World for their honeymoon. I think we wish the happy couple will. What a circus. This whole thing is a circus. And if you're in the North Carolina athletic director or the president down there, you're thinking, what in the world have we done? But isn't this the way to make it less of a circus? It's like if they're engaged, if they get married, then there's not as much a circus.
Starting point is 00:47:16 She's just his wife. She'll end up convincing him to resign probably after one year. Why would she convince him to resign? You would think she wants the spot law. You're working too much. You're too focused on football. You've got to be focused on the morning. Quit looking at your playbook.
Starting point is 00:47:33 We have yoga in the morning. Well, hey, it's moved quickly, but there you go. Wow. Can you imagine she doesn't seem to me like the kind of woman that's not going to have a big wedding, right? Like, I think that's good. You want to talk about a spectacle. And he doesn't seem like the top of the guy will say, no, we don't need that at the wedding. I think she'll have a blank check for that winner.
Starting point is 00:47:53 Whatever you want, honey. Yeah, they're not going to Gatlinburg. Yeah, they are not going to Gatlinburg with an Elvis person. They are going, they are going to have a big one. That'll be the social event of the decade, won't it? Oh, yeah, and we're getting a reality show out of this. There will be a Bravo or some kind of whatever channel all those are on. We're getting some romantic reality show.
Starting point is 00:48:12 I think you're probably right about that. One o'clock, or excuse me, two o'clock today, Eastern Kentucky opens up the SEC baseball tournament against Oklahoma. Now remember, they've changed the format of this tournament now. It's just single game elimination. So it is for those of you that remember what the SEC basketball tournament was, that's what this is now. So for Kentucky to win, they'd have to win five games in five days. But really, they're probably in the tournament either way, Drew.
Starting point is 00:48:43 But a win today, I think, would lock them up in the tournament. They would play Oklahoma. Tomorrow would be Georgia. and then you just kind of go from there. So hopefully Kentucky can get at least one. I think they're probably in any way, but we'll see. Yeah, they seem pretty good keeping up with all the bracketologies that have been updating every week.
Starting point is 00:49:02 That sweep of Oklahoma is what got them in, I think. But it certainly helped to beat Oklahoma again today. I looked on draft kings. It's a pick-em to let you know where the odds stands. Yeah, Oklahoma is not pitching their ace. They're going to – it looks like they would wait and pitch him tomorrow if they win today. So we're not having to face the guy.
Starting point is 00:49:20 that's supposed to be like a top 10 draft pick. He would not. So that's good for us if we can get a win. Yeah, they swept them just, you know, 10 days ago. They're getting ready to play them again. I saw where Kentucky's going to start the guy who just started against Northern Kentucky last Tuesday and threw really well against Northern Kentucky. He gets to start tonight.
Starting point is 00:49:36 But Kentucky could have gone with their main guy. He started on Thursday. That's five days rest. He probably could have gone tonight. It seems like most of these teams are taking the view that they're going to start their best guy in the second game if they make it. Yeah. So we'll see how that.
Starting point is 00:49:51 It's a weird thing when you're doing your pitching here because you might want to save the guys for the better teams, but if you don't win, it's not going to matter anyway. They won't get to pitch at all. Yeah, it varies by each team's circumstances. I don't see Kentucky running the table, so I think you throw your best guys early and just try to get a winner too. So you're saying we're throwing our midweek starter? Correct. The guy started against Northern Kentucky just last Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:50:14 Sauer or Sawyer? I don't think his name is sour. Is it what's his first name Sawyer? It's the tip of my tongue. It's like sour. S-O-W-E-R or S-O... What do we think it is, Shannon? Sawyer.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Probably Sawyer. That would make more sense than Sauer. Sawyer would make more sense than Sauer. I think you wouldn't want to name your first name. Oh, that's his last name. Oh, okay. Well, that makes more sense. All right, some interviews.
Starting point is 00:50:39 I got J-1-Lowe will be on the show here tomorrow. We are interviewed. Mark Pope. They postponed it a day. So we are interviewing. Mark Pope tomorrow afternoon after the show. It will air on Thursday. Probably, assuming it goes long enough, we will do the second hour on Thursday. We'll just be a one-on-one with me and Mark Pope. That's at least the plan right now. And then the podcast, I'm interviewing Crystal Ball today
Starting point is 00:51:06 and Ryan McGee tomorrow. Those podcasts will be up later in the week that you can listen to on Memorial Day weekend. The Matt Jones podcast with your face on it. No. Why are you confused? you the Matt Jones show with my face on it. With your face on it. Yes, with that picture of me smiling. I love the other guys. Probably going to wake up, check his phone and have all these new subscribers. Wow.
Starting point is 00:51:30 I really locked into the Kentucky audience today. For whatever reason, he found it. Thank you folks very much for coming out. And just one more time. Everybody keep the folks in London in your thoughts. There should be an announcement, I think, from the governor's office this afternoon about ways for people to contribute, which would be good. And I do think if you have a able body over the next few days, cleanup is still,
Starting point is 00:51:56 there's a lot to still do there. And I think people would love to have any volunteers. Thank you folks very much for listening.
