We are here at the KSR Golf Scramble, sponsored by Clark's Pumping Shop and Corbred him. Hey, good to see you. Like to always seem familiar faces out here. There are some people, I think, who've played in this almost every year. I was waiting before I made this announcement, but I think it's going to happen. At the 46 Solutions Hole, you get to pick your own walk-up
Starting point is 00:03:30 music and they're going to play your walk-up music you walk-up to the tea of the tea. I like that. You got to be thinking about what your walk-up music. Wait, but you have walk-up music. Yes. You tell them what you're going to want your walk-up music to be, and they'll play it at 46 Solutions hole before you tee off. I actually kind of like that.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Yeah, that's a really good idea. 46, I don't see them on the list here. I don't know what hole they got. They're coming out, they're coming out here. Oh, 15. I got them right here. They got a solution for every hole on there. They're on my course.
Starting point is 00:03:56 They're on the white course. Right. Get the Rick Ross ready. Yeah. 859-280-2287. Text machine, 772-7-7-4-7-4. Shannon, I knew you'd like the story. The SEC has now imposed a $500,000 fine on all court or field storming.
Starting point is 00:04:15 No warnings. $500,000 every single time you do it. They say their goal is to make it to where no one ever does it. My question for you, good idea, bad idea. and do you think anyone will still do it? Naive idea. If you think that's actually going to stop anybody from rushing the court or the field, because, again, it's not our money.
Starting point is 00:04:37 What do I care? So if I'm a fan of a team that just upset a top-ranked team, I'm not going to go, oh, yeah, $500,000. That's not even going to cross my mind. I'm going to be on the field. Do you think schools now, Ryan, will, like, encircle it with security to make sure, like, you know, I mean, if you're Mitch Barnhart and Kentucky plays Old Miss, And the fourth quarter starts and you're up 10.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Are you like bringing the police force out to try to keep the students off the field? I think they'll probably do that. They'll probably try that. Like Shannon said, it's going to be hard to stop 20,000 people trying to rush the field. You've got five police officers down there. They'll try it. You're going to end up having a bigger problem when somebody gets hurt because of police officers, you know, tasing somebody or something like that.
Starting point is 00:05:24 I think you're going to. I like this because we see it more happening in the UK basketball, Just happened last year. Happens us every year. Yeah, and now the new rule as of last year is the other team gets to pocket it. So sure, run up that tap. Because the UK football is unlikely. I mean, Vanderbilt, you remember when the athletic director was trying to stop them,
Starting point is 00:05:44 the way this rule goes is you pay the team that you were playing against. And for Kentucky basketball, I mean, this is great. Yeah, this is a chance to. If you lose, have the consolation prize of, you know, you can go pay for half a kid out of the portal if you lose next year because of how it works. That's exactly what's going to happen. And I hope they'd never go away with it because some of my best memories of going to Coker Field with my kids are storming the field a couple times. I mean, I love that. I love it.
Starting point is 00:06:17 I still have a scar on my leg from storming the field. Probably the biggest scar on my body is my leg from 2007 Storm in the Field, Kentucky, Louisville football. I was bleeding profusely, and I love it. Actually, every minute of it. You know, Drew or Mario, when I'm interviewing Mark Pope, if you go back and look at that video, I start bleeding down my leg. Have you seen? No, I didn't know you were.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Mario tries to frame it out. No one seems to have noticed, so I can say it now. If you go back and look at that video, all of a sudden I'm scratching my leg and I bleed like the last 30 minutes. You're like Rick Flair just blading during interviews. Did he notice? I didn't notice until it was over. Mario was like, look at your leg, and I had blood all the way down my leg. That was picking at the remnants of the scar of the 2007 UK Louisville football game.
Starting point is 00:07:15 It sometimes scabs up. But the thing is, my bloody Mark Pope leg reminds me of Stevie getting loose in 2007. So I do hate that. We don't get those interviews as much. if you're going into the building and just bleeding everywhere. Your scar is like a badge of honor, though. It is kind of a badge of honor, honor. So I do, I get why they do it.
Starting point is 00:07:36 You know, I mean, DeMarcus cousins one time almost knocked the dude out at South Carolina. There have been a lot of those situations. So I get why they do it, Drew. But it is kind of a shame because it gives like this special thing in college sports. Yeah, and it will be interesting to see how different teams try to combat it because you can, you know, you spend $100,000. should prevent it. It's still going to save money if you know it's coming.
Starting point is 00:07:58 I don't know if maybe you put up a barbed wire might be a little extreme, but maybe some form of bar bar bar bar bar. That might be jumping down on that way. Maybe build a boat. Lazy. That man's trying to build a wall around the Vanderbilt basketball. Maybe we'll get to where we'll have like hockey rinks. The boards around the court.
Starting point is 00:08:13 It's just a way for the bad teams, though, to stay bad and the good teams to get better. The college football Hall of Fame changed their rules yesterday. I've mixed emotions about this. So they had a rule that in order to make the college football Hall of Fame, you had to have a 60% winning percentage. 60%. Mike Leach, who passed away just over a year ago, rest in peace, Mike Leach had a 59.7% winning percentage.
Starting point is 00:08:43 So by rule, he was not going to be able to make the college football Hall of Fame. By rule, college football Hall of Fame amended their rules yesterday to say you only have to have a 59. point five percent winning percentage. So they went from 60 percent to 59.5 in a rule in a change that's clearly meant for Mike Leach. Ryan, I think there's a good argument. Mike Leach should be in the college football Hall of Fame. He revolutionized the way the passing game works.
Starting point is 00:09:15 It happened here at Kentucky. He's a great coach. He won in places where you don't win like Texas Tech, Washington State. Kentucky is an offensive coordinator. with all that said, and actually, I think you can make an argument that you shouldn't have a winning percentage at all on the Hall of Fame. But with all that set, you can't amend the rules for one person to 60 to 59.5. They didn't even move it to 59. 59.5. Ryan, I just feel like you can't do that, right?
Starting point is 00:09:50 You know, I'm kind of a numbers guy, and I've always been a round-up guy. You're a numbers guy. I'm a round-up guy. I always thought you didn't seem like a numbers guy. I'm always rounding up. So, you know, he's 59.7. Rounded up, it's 60%. To me, that's close enough.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Oh, you think there should be a rounding up? A round up, just round up. Okay. That's why they put a 59.5 rounded up to 60. Okay, I didn't thought of that as a position, but all right? I thought for sure, Matt, you and I would disagree on this. I thought you would take the opposite stance, but you're saying exactly what I think. You can't start just bending the rules because of one person.
Starting point is 00:10:21 What you're going to do next time when, okay, there's a guy who we think, belongs in the Hall of Fame. And 59.4. Exactly. So if you keep moving it, then, you know, why even have that number to begin with? I'm fine if they make the decision no requirement at all. That's it. If you want to do that, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:10:36 But to change it by 0.5 just so happens the one year a guy who's like 59 points. I just. And how do we know that Mike Leach would even want that charity half a point? He may not even want that if he were still with it. We don't know. I'm off for it. You got to get the power it in. If there was anybody else, I might be.
Starting point is 00:10:54 against it, but Mike Leach has got to get it. I love changing it. And they're not just changing it for one person. Any coach that's 59.5 and above is now. It's just a coincidence that there was this guy who just died. I'm all for him. I didn't like that like Lane Kiffin and some of his rival coaches even tweeted support of it.
Starting point is 00:11:10 It's just of all guys, I can, I can do it for my league. Because he was a nice, funny guy. No, that's what it is. I think he has a legitimate case to be in the Hall of Fame. I do. But I don't think the legitimate case is, let's change the rule so he can make the Hall of Fame. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:24 I mean, Major League Baseball, the NBA, the NFL, none of those have a winning percentage requirement. So I'm fine with getting rid of it, but I just don't think you can change it for one guy to whatever. To tie it to today, Matt, at any point, will you kick your golf ball just a little bit to get out from behind the tree? That's kind of what we're doing here with Mike Leeds. We're just giving it a little nudge.
Starting point is 00:11:46 We're just kind of bending the rules just a little bit. You're saying he's kicking Mike from behind the tree. You're talking about being honest and sticking to the rules. I'm sure today you might be. You're just teeing it up in the rough, is what you're saying. Yeah, they're just, he's a gimmie. I mean, I will admit probably two or three times in my career I've teed it up in the rough. Just two or three, and that's it.
Starting point is 00:12:05 And so, all right, maybe you're right. Who's up next? Nico is up next. Nico, go ahead, Nico. Hey, I got a basketball question, if that's okay. Go for it. Who are, okay, if you had to have the top three Kentucky basketball players to do a wide open three, to save your life.
Starting point is 00:12:28 What would those three? In UK history? Yeah. My question. Number one, Kobe Brea, two, reed shepherd, three, Dante Allen. That's an interesting threesome. I don't know that I would have. All right, so that's a good question.
Starting point is 00:12:43 You got three guys wide open that you got to have to save your life, shoot threes. All right, I appreciate the call. I'm going to go if they're wide open. Yep, and a gym. Because I think it's a different question if you're having it. Like, Jamal Murray was amazing coming off the dribble or whatever, but wide open. I'm going to go Kobe Brea, Duran Lamb, and Travis Ford. Travis Ford, okay.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Wide open. Again, Travis Ford took a – his career percentage is lower because that second year when Mashburn was gone. He took a lot of contested shots because he wasn't open all the time. But if you go to 93, when he was getting – a lot of open looks, his percentage was different. My honorable mentions would be Antonio Reeves, Jody Meeks. Those are my honorable mentions. What about you?
Starting point is 00:13:40 If it was contested, my answer would be Jamal Murray, Malik Monk, and who? Andrew Harrison in the tournament, yes. Almoner. Almonor. You're going on Almanor. going almanor in there. You're a dead man. Actually, I'll say if it's contested, like really contested Murray Meeks and give me Rob Dillingham, because when he was contested, he'd make a lot. Nobody's picking Almanor with your life on the line. No. But if you're talking wide open,
Starting point is 00:14:12 I'm taking Brea. I'm going to take lamb and I'm going to take Ford. I know lamb's going to be one of yours. Who's the other two? I got lamb. Why don't we need the other two? I'm good. I'm alive. He's knocking it down. I like your Travis Ford with the Madisonville connection. I'm going to go off the grid. He's probably not in anyone's mind. But I trust Tyler Ulyss in that moment. Okay. He could knock down the open three. He couldn't create for himself.
Starting point is 00:14:33 He had a good percentage, too. And it's more of the pressure, and I trust my life with Tyler Ulysses. Give me one. All right, so give me one. Do you like my contested ones of Dillingham, Munk? Monk's a great one. And Murray, because those dudes could hit some contested shots. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:48 All right. I really like Antonio Reeves. He's going to be my third. Antonio Rees could hit contested one, too. You're going to take Reeves open? Yep. All right, what about you? The question was if I want.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Tony Delks good. although his percentage isn't always as great as you think it is if you go back and look but go ahead the caller said if our life depended on it if there's one guy that hit the biggest shots that i've seen it's andrew harrison i got to pick him and you mean aaron andrew harrison andrewrew mr. only ryan was dead the wrong hair andrew looks at the twins picks the wrong twin and ends up on death row okay so i'm taking aaron harrison okay i'm taking antonio rees one of the best three points shooters i'm taking reed shepherd those are my three guys right there so you have three completely different ones than me. All right, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:15:28 I got Chayshon Prince. Okay. I don't remember his percentage, but I feel like Keith Bogan shot the ball pretty well. He did, but he, it was, it was, he'd be more for me a contender in the contested ones. And then I think third would probably be Kobe Brea. See, I will say Kobe Brea's percentage went down after Jackson Robinson got hurt, and he had to take more shots.
Starting point is 00:15:53 But if you go back and watch the first half of the year, when that team was healthy, when that dude was open, it was in. Yeah. I mean, when he was open, it was in. Now, at the end of the year, he had to take more contested looks and it changed. But I felt like at the beginning of the year, it was money. Yeah, and he became more of a complete player. Kings were closing out on him, so he learned to get it, you know, create his own shot.
Starting point is 00:16:14 So just to summarize, Matt Drew and myself are alive, Ryan's dead. Yeah, you picked your own guy. I got Aaron Harris. You said Andrew is what you said first. I'd feel safe with Devin Booker as long as it's not the month of February. in that when he had his bad run. Yeah, it's true. Devin had a heck of a run.
Starting point is 00:16:31 My conversation, too. Yeah, that's actually very good. By the way, the final NBA draft mock, like, top 60 players, now has Kobe Brea and Amari Williams in it, by the way. Once some of those guys went back to college, so some people got out of it, it has Kobe Brea and Amari Williams in the top 60. They have Amari going to the Knicks, too, because they need a little big man help. So that'd be awesome for Amari.
Starting point is 00:16:56 if he finds a way into the league after Drexel and all that. Who's next? Actually, you know what? Keep it. I'll do it right after this. Shady rays. Hopefully the sun will come out and you'll need Shady Raes, at least for part of this.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Shady Raid sunglasses. Promote KSR. Are they out here? Yes, they are. They're out here on hole 14 on the blue course. So you go to Shady Raise. Shadirase.com. Check them out.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Best sunglasses. Use KSR. Best protections. That's all. It's Shady Race. One near you or online. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:18:35 What? Time out. Quarterback on office, blue 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Starting point is 00:18:54 Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. I actually drop better when I'm high. It heightens my senses, calms me down. If anything, I'm more careful. Honestly, it just helps me focus. That's probably what the driver who killed a four-year-old told himself. And now he's in prison. You see, no matter what you tell yourself,
Starting point is 00:19:16 if you feel different, you drive different. So if you're high, just don't drive. Brought to you by Nitsa and the Ad Council. Hey everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Will Ferdell from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor.
Starting point is 00:19:47 So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of this show. I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Like what was just because we?
Starting point is 00:20:04 Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion at the 50th season from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha-hoo. Ah, ha, who. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into PodMeets Twirled
Starting point is 00:20:18 for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Ryan St. Andrew Harrison makes me think he would also say his favorite musician in Lexington is Dwight Perry, which I think... It's actually a really good lie. I mean, I was with you, the Dwight Perry man. Yeah, I like he's saying Andrew. See, you'll be the only person with him. Well, you know, my life did depend on it, so I think I got messed up tells you where my life's going to go. One person...
Starting point is 00:20:48 Down the toilet. Why, don't be so down. Come on, Ryan. You got a great life. You got a great life. You got your house. all to yourself now I got an empty nest syndrome kicking in I was so excited now tomorrow be like I'll be crying no don't leave this day one person writes if it was in practice I would take Josh Carrier he never missed in practice that's
Starting point is 00:21:10 what they always used to say a different story two best practice players Kentucky's ever had are Josh Carrier and Matt Pilgrim that's right he was a lot the old time ever texting me Derek Miller sign the list yeah yeah he made a lot It took a lot, though, too, as well. Jody Meeks, I had two lists, neither of which had Jody Meeks. I feel like I got to alter it because he could get crazy. I mean, Jody Meeks had two of the hottest games I've ever seen in Kentucky player have. The one again, well, three really.
Starting point is 00:21:42 You had the game where he scored all the points against Tennessee. Yep. You had the game against Arkansas. And then he played something like Appalachian State in Louisville and had like 48 or something in that game. When he got hot and he'd hit the show. shot, the net wouldn't even move. I mean, it was just right down the middle. If you ever, if you're ever like me, and I probably do this more than most people, and you just go watch old UK highlights sometimes on YouTube, there is no highlight mix better in Kentucky basketball
Starting point is 00:22:10 history than someone has a mix-up of Jody Meeks' 54-point game. And if you watch that mix, it's awesome because he's awesome. And then they always flashed to the Tennessee bitch. And Bruce Pearl and those dudes are like, what do we do? And you're right, the net does not move in that game in Knoxville. It's unbelievable. I watch a lot of old UK stuff on YouTube, but that one comes up a lot. The bench shot, I think it might be Wayne Chisholm, which is absolutely devastating. Yes, that's who it is. Yeah, in terms of great, the best set of videos about UK on the internet is Daniel Hager has, against some of our biggest rivals, one basket in every game we've played against them since, like,
Starting point is 00:22:56 he picks like the best basket against, in every game we've played against Louisville, and every game we played against Tennessee, North Carolina. That's really awesome. And then the Meeks, Tennessee, and then the Monk, North Carolina, the highlights of that Monk, North Carolina game, those are too awesome. I told you that, that North Carolina, Kentucky game is the best game I've seen in person to see it live. That was just a shootout that game.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And one more, Antonio Reeves at Arkansas. If you go look at that one, that's another crazy one when he goes off down at Arkansas. Who's next, Rick? B. Rent is up next. B. Rent. Go ahead. Hey, thanks for taking my call. Two quick football questions. With this being like the least anticipated season, I can ever remember,
Starting point is 00:23:40 how much of that do you think falls on stoop in the staff? Well, I mean, most of it, right? part of it's the performance of I mean I would say 80% of it is last year not just going four and eight but the way the season went the discipline issues buying hot dogs in the crowd I mean all that and then I do think 20% of it is just the marketing of this they've done they've made the conscious decision to not really talk or promote during the year to sort of quote unquote let their actions do the talking and you know maybe they'll be value in that but it's led to there being no excitement about the team. For sure. A second thing, everybody wants to know about Calazada, obviously. But, you know, since I can't remember a starter last in the whole season, I want to know about Cudder Bowley and how he's progressed.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Yeah, that's a great question. Do we know anything about him? Is he ready? Yeah, I appreciate the call. We have not had a starter play every game in the season since when. Did Levitt's first year? I don't think he did either. missed one.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Wow. It's been a minute then. When would it be? Like Andre Woodson? Surely it's not that far back, but I can't think of when it was. It might be. If Levis missed a game, then I think it's Andre Woodson. Quarterbacks get hit in the SEC, and it's usually an NFL
Starting point is 00:25:07 linemen that's hitting you. So that's a fair question. What do we know about Cutter Bowley? Because he's probably going to play. Apparently he had a really good offseason. Like, they were really impressed with his work ethic and getting in the film room and trying to become a better quarterback off the field, those sort of things. So I think they were really happy with what he did in the offseason.
Starting point is 00:25:21 This is the best too deep at quarterback. They've had in a long time. I don't think it's going to be a competition at all. I think it's Calzada's job through the fall. But Cutter's not that far behind him. And if he has to come in, I think you'd be more comfortable with him than you've been with the backup coming in forever. Who's third?
Starting point is 00:25:36 Even though the spring scrimmage, we couldn't see a whole lot. They went to Qatar pretty quickly with the ones, and it wasn't a big drop-off, at least in that. Who's third? Is it the freshman? Storm. Is it Stone Saunders? Stone, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:47 We have Bo Allen still around if you ever go down deep. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, that's a great point by the caller. Cutter Bowley's going to play if you go through history because we always have our guy get hurt. So, I mean, he's probably going to play. So hopefully he's improved. There were moments in that Texas game where he looked, you know, he had moments. He kind of grew, I think.
Starting point is 00:26:08 He's time out there. He grew a little bit more. And I think his future is really bright. He may get this sparingly minutes this year. Yeah. Who's next? Joe was up next. Joe, go ahead, Joe.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Guys, I got a follow question to that last call. I get to say, you know, John Calgary, a lot of a couple years, thanks the fans to let's what he's doing. But with Mark Stoops, I'm getting the feeling of the fans are actually behind him the route for him to succeed. What do you guys get to get through?
Starting point is 00:26:37 Are you saying to me you think the fans are, were waiting for Cal to fail and are rooting for Stoops to succeed, or was it the opposite? Your phone was breaking up. No, I think that they could care less whether if Cal succeeded or not, they were tired of his lip,
Starting point is 00:26:53 and I think they're actually rooting for Stoops to succeed to get this across the finish line. Yeah, I mean, I think in general, I appreciate the call. I think in general, if you asked our fan base, do you like Mark Stoops as a person and as a coach? I think most people's answers would be yes. I see one person shaking their head no, but most people's answers would be yes.
Starting point is 00:27:14 so I do think they'd like to see him succeed but I just don't think most of our fan base has the confidence right now do you agree with that I think that's very fair me personally I want him to succeed I want him to get back to where we used to be I just don't know if the talent is there this year to do it he's right there were some people at the end of the cow era who were just done with cow I don't get the sense that's the truth I think this is like the last year a tubby where people like didn't think it was going to happen
Starting point is 00:27:41 they wanted them to because they liked tubby but they just didn't think it would Yeah, I think we're going to get Stoops is there's a coach out there a lot of people want. Now, it's not the majority of the fan base, but I think some are ready to just go ahead and rip the Band-Aid off now and not miss out on a potential alumni coming back. I love this place. This is probably, in terms of being in Lexington, come and playing a public course. I'm not sure you can find a better situation. I used to play out here a lot when it was the Players Club back in the day.
Starting point is 00:28:06 Started out of the Players' Club. They had two court. Three courses, I think, out here at one point. Two-nines and an 18. Oh, did they? Yeah, I think so. Now I think it's just two-18s. UK's nice training facility behind us.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Yeah, it's where UK golf trains. That's right. Wednesday is the new Friday at UK Federal Credit Union. With early pay, you get paid up to two days early. That's pretty good. I like that, yeah. Yeah, that's right. Just by setting up your direct deposit, open a UKFCU account,
Starting point is 00:28:32 transfer your direct deposit and get paid two days early. Find out online how to make HUP Day, the new pay day with UK Federal Credit Union. Must have a UKFCU account with active direct deposit. Visit UKFCU. U.org for terms and conditions. Membership eligibility required, federally insured by ENCUA. That is good. You get your pay two days early, Shannon. You can
Starting point is 00:28:52 go party and do all your things. That's right. Wednesday, like you said, it's the new Friday. We're going out on Wednesday nights and partying now, right? That's right. Jack Harlow, Shannon, released a shoe. I saw that. Did you see that where he has in this, a map of the Highlands in the in-so? I got to, I saw my street.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Like, he's just, he's got, like, I was looking for your street. I saw it on there, too. It's on there. Yeah. Should we say the name of it? No, don't worry about that. You don't have to do that. I mean, people can figure it out probably. But it's kind of neat to have that little triangle. I didn't know, like, apparently his parents lived on my street at one point.
Starting point is 00:29:27 And then they moved a few streets over, but it's kind of cool. Didn't you think that's cool? It is, yeah. I mean, how many people can say that their street is on Jack Harlow's shoe or anybody's shoe for that matter. You're going to get them? Well, it's like an indoor soccer cleat. So I don't know that I would ever have any reason to wear it because I'm not playing. an indoor soccer.
Starting point is 00:29:45 If you go back to the, we did a remote with the soccer club, didn't we? Well, you tried to kick one past the goalie? In theory, that's right. For my Sunday morning, Matt Myron Show, they're bringing the voice of doof and schmerts for Phineas and Firm. Oh, that's beautiful. They're going to tell who's who. Well, they're going to have us have a doof and schmerts all.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Nice. That's brilliant. So I'm going to try to sound like sound more like doof and schmerts. than the guy who does the doof and schmert's voice on Sunday morning. They can't believe you agree to that. Well, they maybe record all this stuff where I go, Perry, the platypus. And what's funny is I've never even seen that show once.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Like, I don't even know. I guess I naturally sound like that guy. I had never even heard of it before. Then I looked it up and I go, that does sound like you. Well, when they had me listen to his. Yeah. And then they had me do it. And I think I sound more like him than he does.
Starting point is 00:30:44 You better watch out. I mean, you may take its job one day. So that will happen on Sunday morning on Matt Myers. Once you hear the guy on Finney's and Furb, he does kind of sound like me. Spit on. You can't hear it. I'm not going to lie. Tyler Thompson wrote this morning trying to give Mark Pope a grade for this year's offseason.
Starting point is 00:31:03 What grade would you give Mark Pope for offseason 2025? Basically, since the day we lost to Tennessee to now, what grade would you give him? Pretty high. Trying to think even where his, what his strikes would be. I guess he missed on a couple of transfer portal targets like Yaxil, the first guard they went after. Other than that, you throw in just being in the community with London, some of the other stuff he's done. I got to go in, hey, I mean, I don't know how to take away points. Yeah, I mean, I, you know, I try to think.
Starting point is 00:31:36 You think, KSR? Yeah, I mean, try to, I'm sitting there trying to think, well, what could you nitpick? I mean, I guess you could nitpick that he didn't get his top point guard option. I think he wanted Donovan Dent or, you know, but I mean, he got a really good guy. And then he added a bunch of dudes we didn't think he'd have any chance of getting. He had added guy from Croatia. We didn't even know was a human being on earth. So I guess he loses the Caden Lewis and Travis Perry, but whatever you think of that.
Starting point is 00:32:06 I don't really care about losing the Cade and Lewis. I mean, I'm sad to see Travis go, but I, I, I, think that was inevitable so I don't know I think you got to give him an A I I can't really think I can't really think of what I would complain about yeah I think you guys kind of laid it out there you can't give him an A plus because of just a couple little minor blemishes with but overall it's an A I mean I think it's definitely an A what he's done this offseason Sheen you're the most pessimistic any way you could would give him less than an A no if you're being fair you're being honest you got to say an A you know he's brought in
Starting point is 00:32:41 good transfers. A couple within the SEC. You got more experience this year. You got more athleticism this year. You brought back Otega Owe. I don't know how you don't give them. And the other thing is, part of this job now is raising NIL money. I mean, let's be real. Part of the job is you have to get NIL money to come in.
Starting point is 00:32:59 And depending on who you ask, we either have the first, second, or third most money spent this year. Some people think St. John's is first. Some people think Michigan is first. But either way, we're in the top three. I don't know. I mean. And the depth, too. And this fan base is unified.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Yes. I mean, this is a fan base that really hasn't been unified since 2015. And it's been, and it's unified. Even the people who were, you know, there were some people last year early in the year. I don't know if he can coach. I don't know. By the time he won those games in the tournament, then my question was, can he recruit? He's been able to do that.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I don't really know what else you could complain about. He's added to the scale. You mean, we have? Purdue and Georgetown and St. John's. The Louisville game being in November stinks, but he blamed Pat Kelsey for that. I like that he said that's all Louisville's fault. And he doesn't seem to be at all stubborn to say, hey, fans, you want this and no, I'm telling you to stop.
Starting point is 00:33:56 I mean, that got old at the end of the Cal era. We care about the SEC tournament. And then Cal goes, you shouldn't. You know, we want to play these games. You shouldn't. We would like to see some dudes stay more than a year. You shouldn't. I mean, there was a sense where it was, there was a lecture to everything.
Starting point is 00:34:14 I don't, Pope doesn't really do that. No, the things he said this offseason have been great, some of the stuff he said to you on the one of his interview with you was fantastic. What he said about Travis Perry was kind of endearing, you know, how he said he was devastating when Travis left. I'll add that he's even popped into these NBA games. We've seen photos of Carl, Rob Billingham. He's got the connection with those guys.
Starting point is 00:34:30 He's gone out of his way to bridge that gap. I'm talking myself in an A-plus here. And I will also say, just on a completely personal level, I was able to ask him questions that there was probably never a moment with Cal that I would have been able to. Like looking at him and saying, why do you substitute out all the good players
Starting point is 00:34:49 right when we have a lead and put the other guys in? I thought his answer was completely reasonable, but I would not have felt comfortable asking John Calpary that. He'd have probably got mad if I asked that. Pope seemed to not care at all. No, Pope was the answer he gave. I think all of us want to know why do you do that.
Starting point is 00:35:06 And he explained it. He explained it, and I came away with like, okay, now I get it. He said basically, sometimes I'm thinking two or three substitutions ahead, and to use last year's example, maybe I have to bring in Travis Perry early because I know I'm going to bring in Kobe Brea, and I need to get Butler back in to cover up for Braes. And that, I mean, that makes some sense to me. Makes total sense. So who's up next?
Starting point is 00:35:31 Matthew is next. Matthew, go ahead, Matthew. Hey, what's up, Matt? How you doing? doing good good hey few other names I thought of
Starting point is 00:35:41 when we were talking about the three point thing second year Emmanuel quickly was pretty automatic oh that's a good one how did we not mention a manual quickly
Starting point is 00:35:50 yeah he could I'd rather have him with a floater with my life you're right though when he was in that second year he was pretty automatic that's a good call
Starting point is 00:35:58 yeah then I thought of Kyle Wilcher that first year it seemed like every year he came off the bench and made one or two threes well he was wide open most of time So with the rest of that team, he got to shoot wide open, so you're right.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Yeah, then the last one was Tyler Hero. You know, so many games he made big three towards the end, especially against Houston. I mean, he was pretty reliable. That was a huge shot. That's right. Well, I appreciate to call. Carl Towns gets a big win last night. Carl Towns goes to game six.
Starting point is 00:36:25 They'll play Saturday night in Indiana. Got to be happy for him, right? And, you know, he bounced back. He had that little bit with possible he banged knees. I didn't know how healthy he was going to be last night. He looked good. But their season ends. You know, game six, it's going to end with the Pacers.
Starting point is 00:36:40 Well, so I have a question for you about that. You're Mr. Pacers guy. There's a controversy within the Pacers fan base. Uh-oh. So I don't know if you saw Pat McAfee was given the microphone at the start of the fourth quarter for game four. And he got on there and he pointed at Spike Lee and Timothy Chalamee and Ben Stiller, the guys. And we're like, something like, hey, hey, all you New Yorkers that came down to here to Indiana. Let's get this victory and send all these son of a blanks back home.
Starting point is 00:37:12 I saw it. I thought it was a little much, like to point at the guys and have everybody boo him. But then your boy, John Mellencamp. Yeah. John Mellencamp tweeted out and said, I don't know who that was, but that doesn't represent Indiana. He should apologize. So are you on Pat McAfee, Pacer's fan, or John Mellencamp?
Starting point is 00:37:34 Pacers fan sign? You know, Melanchamp was like, look, you know, we want the Knicks to lose. But those dudes are big-time stars who came all the way here to Indiana. We shouldn't have called them out by name and said, get out of here. Can I just say something on this? John Mellencamp has no problem singling out people who paid money to come see them and tells them to shut the blank up in front of everybody. Because like if they were talking.
Starting point is 00:38:02 Well, it's funny, though, that he's calling out McAfee for saying the same thing. So are you team McAfee or are you team Mellencamp on this issue? Yeah, Shannon Drank. Melanchamp has become a grumpy, grumpy, grumpy old man. Well, before calling out, it's hypocrisy. Yeah, who's. I'm on his side. I mean, yeah, I don't think McAfee should have used that word for sure,
Starting point is 00:38:19 because now we got to, if it goes back to New York, they're going to, our guys are going to be there. McAphew are much worse. The next day, the next, yeah, because didn't they hit somebody in the head? The next day McAfee did say, I didn't mean any disrespect by it. Like, really? What did you mean? Really?
Starting point is 00:38:38 I mean, son of a blank in the nicest way possible. What do you think? I don't like either one of them, Melanchamp or McAfee. I think I like, well, I like Melanchamp a little bit better than McAfee. So I guess I'm going to side with Melanchamp in those. Everybody's being soft. I'm 100% McAfee. Of course you boo the Knicks fans in your arena.
Starting point is 00:38:57 They were yelling F the Pacers and hitting people with trash. They did hit people with trash bags. They can get booed for six seconds. in the arena. I even saw, I spent, probably read 100 comments and replied to a Pacer's post. Even Pacers fans were telling Mellencamp to shut up. They're like, this is what we're supposed to do. So my question, why did the Pacers go ahead and sell those seats on the floor to the Nick celebrities? I mean, I think the Pacers probably want to have Ben Stiller and Timothy Shalame or whatever sitting sitting on the front. I mean, that's good for the city of Indianapolis.
Starting point is 00:39:28 But they're on the opposing team. I don't want the opposing team sitting on the floor. Well, there's it. Okay, so we're playing, we're playing Arkansas. Yeah. And Bill Clinton's the sitting president, and he wants to come. You're not going to sell him a seat? Maybe row 10. You're going to make him go to the top.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Yeah. You can sit up there in the nosebleed section for all I care if you're going to root for Arkansas. So you're making, you make him sit at the top. Yeah. All right. I don't want him on the floor. He's feet on the floor with the hammer down there. Let's say Tom Cruise is a North Carolina fan.
Starting point is 00:39:59 And Tom Cruise wants to sit on the front. row of Rupp Arena and watch the game. You are not going to sell him a ticket. Tom, I got a seat up here with a media pass. Up here in the corner. Hold on. I could get them to break. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:10 Let's say we're playing South Carolina and Darius Rucker. There you go. He wants to come. Yeah. Darius Rucker. He wants to sing the national anthem at the U.K. South Carolina game, but his only requirement is he gets to sit in the front row. You're not selling him a seat.
Starting point is 00:40:27 As long as I can sit right beside him. I'm selling him a seat. And creep him out. And creep him out. Hey, Darius, what are you doing? What are you doing later? Let's go do something, Darius. Hey, we'll get something to eat.
Starting point is 00:40:35 You're so weird. We'll take a break. Be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:40:48 That's where sports slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:41:03 The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slic Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th.
Starting point is 00:41:32 And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42.
Starting point is 00:41:53 Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I actually drop better when I'm high. It heightens my senses, calms me down.
Starting point is 00:42:14 If anything, I'm more careful. Honestly, it just helps me focus. That's probably what the driver who killed a four-year-old told himself. And now he's in prison. You see, no matter what you tell yourself, if you feel different, you drive different. So if you're high, just don't drive. Brought to you by NHTSA and the Ad Council.
Starting point is 00:42:43 Hey everyone, it's Ryder Strong and Wilfredel from PodMeets World. And now the PodMeets Twirled podcast. We're two men who were completely clueless to reality TV, who now have covered Dancing with the Stars, traitors, and we're gearing up for the season finale of Survivor. So yeah, now we're experts. I know we annoyed a lot of our listeners by our severe lack of survivor knowledge. That is the point of the show.
Starting point is 00:43:08 I'm just going to remind you. I have watched some Survivor. I obviously haven't watched enough. Did people not like it? Like what was just because we? Yeah. We'll be recapping the big conclusion in the 50th season
Starting point is 00:43:19 from the final attempts at gameplay to the desperate pleas of finalists to a bunch of ha, hoo. Ah, ha, ooh. Again, we are experts. So make sure to tune into PodMeets Twirled
Starting point is 00:43:30 for all our Survivor 50 takes. Listen to PodMeets Twirled on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:44:11 1-800 Roof Pro. 1-800-Roof Pro. 8-9-28027. If you're going to Railbird, the KS Bar parking is, I don't know if it's sold out yet on Sunday. It is close, but you can check online. Saturday, we still have open spots, so you can even probably be able to drive up on Saturday. but either way, remember, you could cut. And if you're just going, if it gets wet or hot, come on over and we'll be open.
Starting point is 00:44:38 We'll be open all day, both days. One of my friends just bought a parking pass yesterday, so I knew there was still some available as of yesterday. There are, yeah, the Sunday ones are close. I think there are some for Saturday. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, I am with Ryan and Shannon. I actually, or excuse me, yeah, I'm with Ryan and Shannon. I think you should not let them in, and you should sell them all the way at the top.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Yeah, I mean, I can get letting them come in and watch the game, but not sit on the floor where the celebrity said. You do that in New York. You don't do it. But in Indiana doesn't have any celebrities. John Cougarmelon camp. Well, he's out there yelling at everybody. What if they just bought them with their money? What are you going to do about it?
Starting point is 00:45:20 Yeah. Yeah, that's probably what happened. I'm sure. That's probably the most likely scenario. Who's up next? Kendall is next. Kendall. Go ahead, Kendall.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Matt, I got a question for you guys. We're talking about Buddy Ryan this week. Do you think that we are done seeing all-time leading scores on the college level? Like, it's like Dan Nissel's record is going to stand in Kentucky for the rest of time without Transfer Portal and all that? Well, Dan Issel's record's probably going to stand. But, yeah, I mean, I think it's actually, transfer a portal is part of it. But I also think, you know, Dan Isle, if he played today, would have been.
Starting point is 00:46:01 been a one and done, right? Like he would have gone to the draft. The way the draft is becoming, it's almost becoming like the college baseball draft. Guys are either going one and done or they're staying four years. Like that's kind of what it's becoming. Like if you go look at the NBA Mott draft, the top 17 picks are one and done. And then 18 through 40 are all seniors. Like you're not seeing a lot of sophomores go in the draft. So do I think there's a senior out there that could be like Jody Meeks at four great years? Yes. But then the question is, would they stay all four years? I think if there was a school where they could do it, Drew, Kentucky would be that school. I think it would be very hard for a school like Xavier to get their all-time leading score. But could Kentucky
Starting point is 00:46:53 do it? Probably not. But it's not crazy. Yeah, I don't know if like one school will have a four-year record, but like someone staying in college that might say like a Walter Clayton that had two great years in Iowa They go to Florida You might see a college player overall have four years that rank high But at one place might be getting difficult to you If Antonio Reeves Ryan had come here out of high school That's the kind of guy who could have made a run at a top five to top ten score of all time if he had been here all because he probably was never going to be good enough to be a first round pit or would have always gotten NIL money.
Starting point is 00:47:30 But do I think that's likely to happen? Probably not. No. I've had this conversation with somebody maybe in that guy who called in. I don't know if we have anybody else cracked the top 10, let alone break Danes. I don't know if anybody cracked the top 10 anymore. Appreciate the call. I think there's a top 10 guy out there that could happen one day.
Starting point is 00:47:48 I think Mark Pope's system is a perfect example. Like Mark Pope is going to go get a kid that might be really good in college, but not necessarily a one and done, Shannon. And if we keep offering them $3 million every year to come back, then you could see them coming back. With NIO, absolutely. Yeah, a guy just like Otega Owey, who's kind of, you know, in the second round, doesn't want to go in the second round,
Starting point is 00:48:11 wants to try to play his way up to the first round, comes back for three years maybe. I can see that happening. I mean, if you look at the 15 guys who had a chance to return to college, who were the best talents and not first round picks. All right, so if you've put that in there, I think you can make a strong argument that like 13 of the 15 came back. The kid from Washington State that could have gone to Duke, he decided to stay in,
Starting point is 00:48:37 and R.J. Lewis from St. John's, he decided to stay in. But pretty much everyone else came back to college, so I think that's what NIL does. Absolutely does that. They realize these guys can make more money playing at your school or than going to play in the G League somewhere. It's just I don't know if there's going to be a lot of those four-year guys. If they're good, they may be gone and transfer into or they may go pro in. But I think at Kentucky you could keep them for four years. There are a lot of schools where you might not be able to keep them at four years,
Starting point is 00:49:03 but at Kentucky they will. By the way, they're showing the national spelling bee. The kid that won was sassy. Did you see that last year? No. He kind of smarted off at one point. He's like a little bit of a trash spelling trash talker. I like that.
Starting point is 00:49:14 I was the fourth and fifth grade champion. I had a little sass in me too. Well, good. Well, thank you to all the folks who came out here to play. It's going to be a fun day. Sons come out, Jim. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy. Quite unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
