Matt, Ryan, and Shannon. People writing in for Ask Anything Wednesday. One person says, Matt, don't you think the stoop spiral started with the pony-up comment? That was a big one. I don't think it was the biggest, but it was a big thing. Added to it, didn't it? It was big for me. I'd be honest with you.

I thought that was a pretty, pretty poor remark. That was like three years ago, though. I mean, it's been a little while since he did it. One person writes, Matt, I ask you this every Ask Anything Wednesday. You've never answered. I'm going to keep asking it until you do. Who's smarter? Ryan Lemon or Donald Trump.

Pretty close race. Pretty close race. Okay. So I have to take away the question of like marketing ability. Uh-huh. Because I do think Donald Trump. Trump is one of the best marketers of all time. Going back to the 80s, he marketed his name as a luxury, like he markets his name.

Right. And has done an amazing job. And the reason he is president is he is a very good market marketer. He's far more consistent than Ryan. Consistently inconsistent. So if you include marketing, then I'm saying Trump because he does that one thing better. than anything Ryan does. That's true. Yes. But if you take out marketing and just did a, who knows more info. Like an IQ test? Well, I don't know what IQ test measure. I've never taken one.

But like, if you just did a fax test, yeah. I don't know. I think it would be pretty close. Shannon, who you got? Well, I mean, if Ryan is smarter than our president, then that means Ryan could be president. So I love you, Ryan. Ryan could definitely be president. No doubt. I love you. Oh, come on. I mean, Come on. Trump's smarter than Ryan. Come on. I mean, he's smarter than me. I've not gone bankrupt three times.

First of all, I don't. Shannon, I would. He's smarter than I am for sure. I don't believe that. Well. I don't. Again, we're talking about, like, as a communicator and as a marketer, but if you're just talking facts.

Yes. I wouldn't necessarily say that. I don't know. You have way too high view of his intelligence. Do you ever like listen to him speak? Yeah, but I mean, they're reading teleprompters. Not him. You get the unfiltered with him.

Oh, he's like Cutler. He's unfiltered. That's exactly right, which is why I worry you're going to leave me for him. So I don't know. I'm going to say current events, I'll take Trump because he lives it. Yes. History, I'll take Ryan. That's what I would say.

We had a debate. Not a debate. Because he's a better, like he'd be better. Well, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Ryan cannot debate Trump. Trump would slaughter him in a debate. But Trump doesn't know anything either. Ryan knows less. Like, he would beat you in a debate because he would just call you names and you would get under the table. Fair point No I mean that would have Trump would be hard to debate

Trump would be very hard to debate because Shane Gillis does a whole bit about this about when he debated Rand Paul because Rand Paul would get up and go you know was the economy does this and the free market and blah blah blah blah and then Trump would just go

your hair's terrible Shane Gillis does a whole debate like what are you supposed to say to that that's true When you come back When you have like all these serious points and then he goes your hair is terrible And I think that makes them more likable.

I mean, that's why a lot of people like them because he just has nicknames. That's like impossible. In some ways, it's impossible to debate. Yeah. If you just go, if I go, Shannon, I believe that the downfall of the Soviet Union began because they spent way too much money on their military. And you just go, you're a pooper head. Got you. Burn.

There's nothing I can do at that point. You know? Well, while we're talking about politics, I guess tonight's the big softball game. Who? Republicans versus Democrats like their softball game. Yeah, who you got? Is it on TV? I don't know.

I mean, I don't know. I don't know who's good at softball. Draft Kings doesn't have a overrunner? I would love for draft Kings to vet on that. Minus 135. Is that on television? People were playing each other in softball? Oh, yeah.

Well, one of those things that happens. Okay, true little behind the scene story. In 2016, when I was considering running for the House and I went up there and I met with all the Democrats. I met with this guy who's last name. I think was Jefferson. It's like an African-American guy from Louisiana. Okay.

And as he sat down, he was like, listen, got a question for you. This is my only question for you. Are you good at baseball? Because back then it was a baseball game. It was, okay. Is it not a baseball game now? I don't know. I thought it was softball.

Yeah. Well, back then I think it was a baseball game. Because he goes, are you good at baseball? And I was like, eh, because if you're good at baseball, I want you to run. We need a couple ringers. So if you're not good, Don't. And that was the conversation.

Because he was the captain of the baseball team for the Democrats. Well, you're a big tall guy. I mean, he thought you were a first basement. He thought he was a sports radio guy. So he was like, well, of course you're good at baseball, but I never really played baseball. Did you tell you were a pitcher one time and gave up a home run to Ryan Lemon? That's true. Wow.

File. Adam. Go ahead, Adam. And Matt, you were talking about role changes coming to college basketball. And I wanted to give you the scenario and how would you fix it? So Kentucky basketball, they have a, they're in transition. They have a layup that is a clear goal tending, but the officials missed the call. The opponent gets the ball, comes down and hits a three.

They go back to the monitor at the next break. They say it was a goaltem. So they give Kentucky two points, but the result of the whole transaction was minus one for Kentucky. How do you fix that? I believe you can. I think so I'm going to talk about the new rules in a little bit. Let me save that part of it. Because the new rules I do think are important, but I don't know how you fix it.

The goaltending, allowing them to go back and fix goaltending way after it happens, I think it's a mistake. It is a mistake. I think it's a mistake. I think you, I just, it leads to terrible results. And when they would call goaltending when it wasn't, and then like, had you not called it, we'd have had a layup. Right. But instead it's a jump ball. Uh-huh.

I hate that stuff. The decision to go back on goaltending was a mistake, in my opinion, because of what the caller's calling. It's the flow of the game. You screw it up. Yep. 100%. My mom picks you, by the way. Oh, thank you.

And says when it comes to decency and being a good person, Ryan is the best. That trumps Trump. That doesn't necessarily mean Shannon, she thinks he would win. Yeah, that doesn't have anything to do with intelligence. But you're a decent and a good guy. That's like saying, well, I got this person. Oh, sorry. She thought you would be better at that too.

Oh, really? Look, my mom is your biggest fan. We're tight. No, no. I mean, my mom gets very mad when I give you hard time. It's all in fun, Mama. I mean, it's mostly in fun, Shannon, but some of it is also. That's a daily occurrence.

Yes, Mark Anthony. Go ahead, Mark Anthony. Hey, Matt, Ryan, Shannon. Hey, you know, Matt, there's a difference between disappointment and heartbreak. And had Vince gone to most anywhere else had been a disappointment, but he has broke my heart. by going to Louisville. I just, it's hard to get over. And my question is, do you have any idea why it is that Ohio was taken from him as his recruiting territory?

Yeah, I don't know. First of all, I mean, the only person that has said that that I have heard, is I appreciate the call, is your boy Michael Bennett, is the only person I've heard say that. He has talked to him, so I don't know if that's. Michael Bennett's also said some things that ended up. He also died and came back to life. Yeah, he also said he was dead and then he was back to life, which I'm not mocking,

but that does give you a little hurt to your credibility a little bit. But, yeah, I don't know. I don't know. If they did that, that's a huge surprise because that would be the thing he was the strongest at. But again, I think we're guessing at this point. We'll have to wait to see what Mark and Vince saying. They might say two completely different things, right?

If they're going to, yeah, will they be honest about something like that? You know, you're pulling back the curtain. and getting into the weeds about that kind of thing. Yeah, I don't know. I hate to see if he wants to come on the show. Yeah, I mean, but like, well, first of all, he needs to do that. Yeah. But he won't do it until there's an official announcement made.

Yeah, I don't think he can't. I mean, like, he hasn't resigned yet. So what's Vince, what's Mark going to say? Right now, technically still works. Still works for UK. Should be out recruiting today. Yeah. I don't know.

I have a feeling. I have a feeling it will get a little nasty. I mean, neither of those two are known to not throw jabs. Yeah. We'll see. Well, this was a body blow. So far they haven't. Yeah, but so far no one's made a public statement except, except Vince replying to Nick Roush.

Is this just a sign of respect? They don't want to come out with a statement against each other? There's not. This is what I keep saying. This is what I used to say to Cal. Not talking is not an option. because y'all are going to have to do press conferences. Like, you're going to get asked about this stuff.

The question is just when do you want to answer it? You want to answer it now or do you want to answer it a month from now? And then in that month have people fill in the void with their opinions. So we'll get a statement Friday at 1205 after our show on Friday. You know, I mean, I didn't realize Mark Stoops did a radio interview yesterday morning. Oh, he did? And A, the host didn't ask him about this. What do they talk about?

I mean, how do you bring Mark Stoops on the morning after? It was on C.C. Radio. Oh, my God. How do you bring Mark Stoops on the day after Vince leaves and not ask? You think they told the guy you can't ask Stoops about? Well, then you say I'm not bringing you on. I've done that.

Yeah. I've done that multiple times with Cal and Stoops. I asked them to come on. They said, I can't talk about this right now. And I said, well, then I can't have you on. You can't bring somebody on and not ask you. them that question. Especially not yesterday. Right? So, I mean,

but anyway, I guess one of the things Mark said is I don't want to make any headlines. I mean, once you start saying that, Mark, what are you? You don't want to make any. You're the coach in Kentucky. You don't have a choice but to make headlines. The hero leader right now is only food restaurant

stories and UK sports. That's it. Coach Dupes has said several times he doesn't want to make headlines. He doesn't want to say something again. headlines and when you go Stoops' best quality is his sort of swash buckler bring it here we go guy

right? If you take that away and try to be a robot you take away what is the person's that's what I hate when politicians do that they have these big personalities and then they get on there and they go back to Trump

that's what he's good at. He's always himself Bernie's good at that. He's always himself. Be yourself. Stoops needs to be himself. And the idea of I don't want to make headlines is a terrible way to be, isn't it? Yeah. When he comes on here, he's usually himself, more so than he's standing behind a podium in a news conference situation. Yeah, but he wasn't as much the last time he was here.

No, he wasn't. Because he's like, I don't want to make a headline. Yeah. Make a headline. That's what you're here for. You're our leader. We kind of need that right now. Terry, go ahead, Terry.

Cleveland and whoever wins gets a cup? Wow. That has to be a recent thing for the longest time. They didn't do interleague play. Exactly. They didn't play. But it's starting to get excited. Terry Francona starting to play the right lineups. Andrew Abbott threw 110 pitches last night. Complete game shut out. That never happens anymore. Never. What did you think? You guys appreciate good plays. What about that Fraley catch? That's one of the best catches I've ever seen. Awesome.

Awesome. He was the pregame interview guy, too, talked about his daughter that has cancer. You can't help but like the guy. Then he goes out and makes this great play last night. Did you see that catch, Shannon? I did. Yes.

That's a heck of a catch, isn't it? Great catch. Not the best catch this year. The Oakland Athletics catch. The Oakland Athletics got. Had to be the best one of the year. So when did the Reds start playing the Yankees and these tough series? Well, they play the Tigers this weekend, and they're the best team in baseball.

which people don't realize, but the Tigers Yes, they are. So they play them this weekend. This weekend. They play the Yankees in about 10 days. I'm selling my tickets. They play San Diego. They start playing good teams.

Good teams coming. Well, Cleveland was decent, but we've beaten them five straight times. Now, next week, they might be gone again. But right now, for today, you're back. You're back on board. Freebird. Go ahead, Freebird.

I appreciate the call. I think when Stoops leaves here, I think he will retire. I mean, he's going to have enough money to do whatever he wants. And he's got a very successful bourbon business going right now. he can retire and still live a very, very comfortable life. Yeah. If I made you bet, is he the coach next year or not, year after this? Made you bet yes or no, what would you say?

I would probably say no. Yeah. You put your money on no. I would, you know, the fact that he was sniffing with Texas A&M just two years ago, the bad year last year, I think they're going to have a bad year this year. I would say, man, I get fired. I think he may step away voluntarily. But just won't be the coach, Shannon.

I think he will be back at least more and more year. No, I mean, after this one. After this year. Okay, so yeah, I'll say he's back for another year. So you think it's at least two years? I think he's there another two or three years. Okay. What do you think?

If you made me bad, I would say no. Yeah. I think it's going to be a tough year. I think we're not going to do well. And I think this fan base is going to be. rough. The water was starting to get hot last year after last season. It can't win an SEC game at home.

Yeah. Okay. All right. David, go ahead, David. Yes. Now, I just tuned into the second half of your show, but how good would my, I, I, How highly would you rank this incoming basketball incoming in this year? And then the second question.

You mean like a preseason ranking? Like a preseason basketball ranking? Okay, yeah, go ahead. What's your second? Right, with the transfer. And the second question, I know absolutely nothing about law or politics. But with Trump being in his current office position, how is it not considered some type of conflict of interest with all his business

investments on the side? Well, I don't like to get into it. I appreciate the call. to get into the second one because then it'll just become a political show. I talk about some of that stuff on my Thursday, Matt Jones show night and podcast. So I'll put that one off. On the first one, I think Kentucky, if I'm going to put them in a preseason poll, fifth, fourth, sixth, something like that. I think you look at it.

Purdue's got more coming back. Houston, maybe Florida. But I think you're, you get in that, that. next range of teams that on paper look good and you just have to see what happens, I think Kentucky's on that list. So if I were, again, I don't claim to know every team's roster up and down, but I would say fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, that's where I would put Kentucky preseasoned. Same. Top eight. I think they're definitely an elite eight level type team coming in.

It may play better than that. But as of right now preseason, I'm going, yeah, top eight. it's just so much is going to come down to how good is how good is Jalen Lowe. Jalen Lowe's elite, then we got a shot at winning the whole thing. If he's not, then I think it's going to be a team a little better than last year, but a similar kind of inconsistency. But you give me elite Jalen Lowe and then bring on anybody. and he'll eat Jalen Lowe, and if one of these guys becomes a knockdown shooter.

But I feel like amongst all these guys, we'll get the other stuff. Yeah, I think so. Somebody will end up good. But Jalen Lowe kind of has to be good. We'll be right back. T.J. What about it? Louisville hosted it. Kentucky. We welcomed the world's parkers to Louisville. Anyway, we went to dinner Monday night, and I wanted him to see the neighborhood. So he went to the Eagle, which is close to my house. We were eating. I was talking to him.

I hadn't seen him. I mean, I saw him in Amsterdam, but I guess, you know, he never been in Kentucky. I'm telling him about Kentucky. He's asked me all these questions. All of a sudden, he just looks at me, like out of nowhere and goes, hey, could you drive me back downtown because there's a parking reception tonight? I said, sure. So we're walking to my car.

We just get up and walk to my car. And then I realize, as I'm about to drop him off downtown, what I was going to say to him is, okay, when I'm in Miami, you pay. Yeah. And as I'm saying that, I realized, I hadn't paid. Oh, no. And neither had he. We had just walked out of the restaurant. I don't, you know, I was so engulfed.

Like, he had just randomly said, let's go. Yeah. And I didn't think to pay. And Shannon, I'd walked out on this bill. And now I'm starting to panic a little bit. Because I can see the Facebook, Matt Jones walked on his bill. Who does Matt Jones think he is? Matt Jones walks out on the bill.

Yeah. Because the waiter had already said like, hey, I'm a Louisville fan. Oh. No. So I'm thinking, like, I got to get back to the Eagle. Yeah. Right? But it's about the time they close, Shannon.

You know? so I like jump in the car try to call nobody answers. I'm like speeding through Louisville trying to get there to pay my bill. I run in and they go, well, we wondered if you were going to come back. And I said, I am so sorry. I didn't think about it. I got this. And I was like going to give me a big tip.

I gave him like a big tip. I was like, I am really so sorry. You know, I really apologize. I said, this probably happens, though, all the time, right? And he said, worked here four years, never. So, thankfully, if it had been 20 minutes later, it'd have been closed. Wow. Then it would have been posted on Facebook that night.

And I would have been mortified. Good for you, though. It shows you good fetching's up. You went back to pay your bill. What was that word? Fetching's up. What does that mean? You had good raising.

Your parents raised you right. Fetchins up. Yeah. You ever heard that show? Never heard that before. Is that a real word? Of course, he's smarter than our president, you said. So maybe we're the dumb ones here.
