Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. There are times when the mind becomes a difficult place to live. This is David Eagleman with the Inner Cosmos podcast. And for Mental Health Awareness Month, we'll talk with singer-songwriter Jewel about anxiety. I started living in my car and then my car got stolen. I was having panic attacks. I was agoraphobic. This is a month of deeply personal and honest conversations about what happens when the brain goes off course.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Listen to Innercosmos on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Your 20s can be so exciting, but they can also be really overwhelming, confusing, and honestly, just kind of lonely. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the psychology of your 20s is breaking down the science behind the biggest roadblocks we face. I was six years into my career, the 80-hour weeks, and just the first one in, the last one out, and I ended up burning out. There was a large chunk of my 20s that I like was just so wanting to like be out of that phase out of my skin. And I just like really regret not living in the present more. You don't need to have everything figured out right now. You just need to understand yourself a little bit better.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Starting point is 00:02:53 Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, good morning. Welcome, lazy gentlemen, boys and girls. Grandpals and grandmalls, aunts and uncles and lots of grandpas and grandmas today, because we are live in a retirement community today. We'll talk about that when Matt gets here. No, they're shaking their head. No, it's not a retirement community.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Well, that's kind of how you won the right to host this show by going as a retirement community. So Ryan Lemon here, Matt Jones, he'll be here just in a couple minutes. He may have just pulled up, I think, right now. So Shannon, the dude and I here, as always, the Kentucky Sports report's responsible by the T. T.J. Smith's Law Office. Called T. What happens, Shannon? He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:03:27 He'll make them pay. And, of course, we've got our country boys. you guys are here today. They brought the new Shannon the dude brew can, Shannon. I can't wait to see that. What an awesome label. That's an awesome label. They've got on Shannon the dudes brew.
Starting point is 00:03:40 And so that'll be broadcast all across the country here just a short time. And Kroger's going to have it here in a little bit. Was that Matt? No, wasn't Matt. Okay. So I got to know the story. First of all, I'm getting a lot of feedback on the... Can you move the microphone there?
Starting point is 00:03:56 Well, we did. Put it back here, Mario. Let's try that. Okay. We did. I got to know, like, what's going on? Like, why is it Matt there? What happened?
Starting point is 00:04:04 I'm not going to say, I'm going to let him tell that story. I don't think it's my place's responsibility to say what's going on. Are you going to be hiding underneath somebody's kitchen table here in the man? I might, I might. But, you know, we had a contest last week. Matt had the idea that we're going to take KSR to people's houses, their private residence. So, Shannon, we had people call in, and Laura Knight called in representing the community here. I'm going to call a retirement community, the community.
Starting point is 00:04:32 And we picked her. I think the final two were her and a horse farm in Paris. And we picked her to come and have the show here to her house today. Wait a minute. Now, you say you can't call it retirement community. I think that was literally her words, a retirement community. 100% that was her words. And that's why I think why we picked it.
Starting point is 00:04:50 But it is. And I think I can, you know, nobody's going to be a bit of business. I say we've got a lot of grandpas and grandmas in here. And they are rocking, Shannon. They've been here since early this morning. They probably got up at 4 o'clock this morning to get ready. Yeah. A lot of blue and white on.
Starting point is 00:05:02 We're going to tailgate at a football game. But this will be a lot of fun today as we begin our venture this summer. I guess we're going to do this all summer. Just try to go to people's houses all across the state. Now, as you were driving through that community today, did you have an eye out for maybe any pineapples on front porches, maybe some that were upside down? Did you see anything like that as you were driving through the neighborhood?
Starting point is 00:05:21 I'm glad you said that because they heard your discussion on the pre-show, and they weren't happy. This is not an upside pineapple community. What do you mean? I'm not here to make people happy. I mean, I'm just saying what I've seen, what I've heard. I think you and Billy were implying this was an upside-down pineapple community, and it is not. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:38 What about the loop is? It's a very nice community. We haven't really disclosed where it is, but if you're in La Lexington area, you kind of know the upscale retirement community, and this is where we are, and they have packed it in here today. So I think it'll be a lot of fun once we get going. Now, of course, Laura had to kind of twist the truth a little bit until we were going. into a retirement home. It's a home and a retirement center community. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Are we sure? Because I don't think they even like the word retirement being used at all. Yeah, I think we're getting some side glances on that word, but we're going to go with it right now for our first show. They've got finger foods. They've got Laura made homemade cookies, Shannon. They're awesome. We've got ham sandwiches.
Starting point is 00:06:19 We've got all kinds of goodies and stuff. And country boys here with Shannon that do. It'll be a lot of fun today. 859-280-2287. That's our Clark's Publishop. phone number, the A Vision Glass Text Machine. Matt will be here with that 2772-7-4-7-4 to get a lot of calls and comments today because I think that we could have a fun show.
Starting point is 00:06:36 You know, we've talked about Vince Merrill, though, the last two days, and Vince has been the number one topic, and everywhere you go outside of this radio show, that's all anybody wants to talk about is Vince Merrill. Well, it was officially announced just this morning. I don't know if you saw that, but it's a three-year deal just became official, and he says his goal is to win a national championship, which, I mean, I guess you have to say that, right? I mean, well, else would you take the job?
Starting point is 00:06:56 Of course, the goal is national champion. But just to hear and read those words coming from Vince Mero, trying to win a national championship at Louisville, it's a tough pill to swallow. Well, let's look at it from both sides. If you're looking at Kentucky's season and schedule, they're not going to be making the playoffs. You're looking at Louisville's season and schedule.
Starting point is 00:07:17 They got a chance to maybe make the playoffs. You've got to get the playoffs to win a national championship. So if he's thinking that route, I can, do you understand why maybe his thing? thinking is that way? Well, I mean, yeah. I mean, if you're saying who has a better chance at winning a national championship, of course it's Louisville. But again, though, it's your bitter arrival. You're leaving straight from Kentucky to go to Louisville. And, you know, if you're going to do that, you have to be ready for the fan base to react the way that they have. I don't know how else you
Starting point is 00:07:44 could. Now, we have had some callers that were kind of like, well, I understand. But no, I don't understand ever going from Kentucky straight to Louisville. So I'm not going to be like Billy and wish them luck professionally. No, I hope he loses every game at Louisville. So I'm not going to be one of these people that's cheering for Vince. Is that Matt? Who's here? Hey there.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Sorry about that. And now we're here. How's everybody doing? They're doing great. Well, good. Sorry. Can anybody hear me right now? No.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Okay. Gotcha. Well, thank you all very much. I ended up in the wrong place. I was out there all the way in Hamburg at 950. I made record time to get back here, Ryan Limmon. Well, you said you thought you'd make it by the showtime. Like, there is no way, but you almost did.
Starting point is 00:08:27 I don't know how you pulled that off. First of all, thank you guys very much for coming. Look at this great crowd here this morning. And thank you for, for, give me the names of the people that are hosting. Judd and Lauren Knight are hosting. Judd and Lauren, nice to see. That's Laura right there who called in. Well, so I have to tell you, this, this has been a stressful morning.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Not only did I realize I was in the wrong place, but on my sprint here, I started getting calls. the Vince Louisville News. Is it official? Yes. It's going to be official here momentarily. It is official now. Yeah, they released a statement. So, three-year deal. Three-year deal being paid essentially the same, maybe a little bit more money than he was going to make here. So now we don't have to wonder why it's been, why it's been not said yet. I would say to you, as soon as I saw that it was going to be official, a little sad. Are you sad about it? I'm absolutely sad. about it. We all like Vince. We like him as a person, like him as a coach, and does it have him depart us? I kind of feel a little betrayed, I think, a little bit. I do think he'll regret it.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah. That's just my prediction. I wish him the best, but I think he'll regret it. I think that's one of these things that when you, so I got a little more insight on this morning. Okay. Maybe talk to some sources around the UK football program. You know, we've said that some of Vince's role had been taken away. I think that was true. I don't think it all went to Eddie Grand, as we kind of heard. I think a lot of the final say on players went to the coordinators. And this is basically what I was told. Used to be when you could get a 25-person high school class, they would say to Vince,
Starting point is 00:10:11 hey, you go get us 10 or 11 guys from Ohio and Kentucky. You decide and we'll take them. And the good thing was, sometimes he really hit, right? He got Benny Snell. He got Lynn Bowden, he got Mike Edwards, he got like CJ Conrad. I mean, especially in those earlier, there's 15, 20 guys he got that were really good. But there were also duds, right? And the idea was, hey, Vince, you can get 10 or 11 guys.
Starting point is 00:10:39 If a few of them are duds, that's okay, because that's your group. Well, in today's portal world, you can't really do that. You can't just, you don't go get 25 high school guys anymore. You got to get guys in the portal, et cetera. And so the amount of guys he could go get was more limited. And all the guys that he was going to get were going to have to be filtered through the coordinators. They basically couldn't afford the bus anymore. You can't like take a high school kid that's not going to play and put them in.
Starting point is 00:11:12 And I think Vince was frustrated by that. And then you got a three-year deal for $1.3 million. I think UK football has taken the view, and we should talk about this, that if we're going to be paying these players $20.5 million, we can't give these coaches these salaries anymore. You know, you can't get three years $1.3 million a year for a tight-in coach because we got to share this money with the players. I've predicted to you, I don't think head coaches are going to see as much money as they used to. So I think a lot of that probably went into it. And Louisville decided to make that investment, and that's how we get where we are. You know, with the numbers that come out today, and you kind of hinted to that the other day,
Starting point is 00:11:56 it really wasn't about money. You thought he was going to maybe get about the same. And he now apparently did it. Yeah, I don't think he got more money. I think it was about power. Power makes it sound like he's being like it's Game of Thrones. I mean, well, it is Game of Thrones a little bit. But it's, I don't think it's like, you know, power like, I'm going to rule the world.
Starting point is 00:12:12 It's just the ability. They used to say to Vince, we trust you, Vince. Here's 10 scholarships. You figure out who's taken. And it worked out a lot of times. Last couple years, as Adam Luckett and Nick Rouse have noted, it didn't work out quite as well. Some of what he brought didn't work quite as well. And so they said, okay, maybe that 10 is now five, and everybody's got to approve who you get.
Starting point is 00:12:39 And, you know, it's like anything in life, when you're used to a certain amount of freedom, and then it's taken away from you, you resented. and I think that was part of it. I've heard that Mark and Vince have talked now. They're still going to be friends. You know, I have a hard time believing they're going to be quite as good of friends. Again, I mean, if Shannon goes to just the Cutler, I'm going to be a little bit frustrated by it. But, you know, do you think you could be as good of friends with a person who left you in that scenario?
Starting point is 00:13:09 I could be friends, but professionally I am not going to be close to them at all. You could still be friends. I think, you know, I think I... If I... Shannon, should we test this theory here? Yeah, tested. Yeah. If I said to you, I love you, but I'm replacing you on this show with someone else from the Lexington TV community.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Yeah. But we're still going to be great friends. Yeah. You think you still would be great friends with me. Not great friends. I think I could be friends. It might be the guy you replaced me with. I have an issue with.
Starting point is 00:13:44 I go, oh. Why would you be mad at them? I don't know. He's sitting in my chair. That's my chair. Get out of my chair. Why would you get mad at the new husband? Well, of course I'm going to get mad at the new husband.
Starting point is 00:13:53 More than the... You're my wife. I still kind of like you. I don't like the new husband. That's an interesting theory. Yeah. You're much more mad at the person who didn't do anything to you. Yeah, he's sitting in my chair.
Starting point is 00:14:03 That other person is just looking for a job than the person who sort of betrayed you. Yeah. Well, I feel like there's still some love there. I'm not going to call the name. But, Shannon, you know this as well. Ryan had someone that he was not nearly as close to as he as us. Just simply disagree with you on a business transaction once. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:25 That was 20 years ago. And you still haven't gotten over it. That was a little betrayal. I think that was a betrayal. But you weren't even friends with that person. No, but, you know, I think professionally when you get betrayed like that, I'm done. Done with you. I don't understand his reasoning, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:14:41 I don't either. It's Ryan. You just have to go along with it. So anyway, the claim from the UK side, there's no hard feelings. It's all okay. I just, I have a hard time. I don't know how you can grow up with a guy. You bring him to this job.
Starting point is 00:14:57 He gets this huge amount of prominence, and then he goes to your rival. And it's going to put a ton of pressure on you. I don't know how that doesn't at least frustrate you a little bit. I just thought of this question. You know, Coach Stubes let Eddie Grant go, brought him back. Wolford left, brought him back. Is there ever a scenario or? Stoops would bring Vince back now?
Starting point is 00:15:16 Stoops ain't going to be there long enough. He could have been there for three more years. I knew Shannon was going to say that he would not be there. I think the first thing is getting through the next year or two. Yeah. Then you can talk about whether or not. Maybe there in three years, but he won't be there in four or five, six years. Yeah, well, we will find out.
Starting point is 00:15:31 859-28027. We are here. Are we allowed to say where we are? I'm not going to give your address, but the name of the community? I didn't. Okay, so we're not going to give it. Country Boy is here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Look at you bringing the. beer here for these folks. The new Shannon the Dude Brew logo label. They just debuted it today. That looks like the label of a, oh, wait a minute, that's you on the can. It's awesome. I can't wait to actually put it out there for people to see. That is amazing.
Starting point is 00:15:57 That's you wrestling. There's three parts to it. Dude, that really is really cool. Now I wish I had a beer. 859-280-2287. Clark, did you do all the Clark's Pump and Shop and all that? We hit most of them. Yeah, so you didn't know.
Starting point is 00:16:11 772-7-7-4 is A-Vision Autoblass, Tex-Mchmchmch, The station's sponsored by the TJ Smith Law Office. We will take a break. Sorry about being late. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,
Starting point is 00:16:27 and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions,
Starting point is 00:16:43 the stuff nobody gets to. to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up guys? This is Clifford Taylor the 4th.
Starting point is 00:17:14 On my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue of 42.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clivert show on the I-Hart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:18:00 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this. series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:18:21 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying.
Starting point is 00:18:38 He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court. and you're going to get the bombs. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:18:55 American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramers sending on to Ernie Stewart the Chip. I'm Todd Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policic.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I'm not worried about Balagan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise
Starting point is 00:19:35 if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:19:59 live. We are kind of off man of war. We won't give specific details. Although I did hear from one of the people here. Maybe Mark Stoops lives not very far from here. So maybe we can maybe when this is over, we can like sneak on the property or something. I think there's a little five iron shot away. We could probably get it. Oh, you think it's a five iron? When you get on that side of the complex? Who's five iron? Yours. For you, I was going to say for you, it's at least a couple driver three would. Let me read you real quick, Vince, statement. I'm not going to read all of it, but it starts right here. I love the state of Kentucky. This has become my home, the opportunity to take on this new and exciting role in the
Starting point is 00:20:37 state where I have so many incredible relationships, something I couldn't pass up. I also want to thank UK, Mark Stoops, the administration and fans. I have lifelong friendships, and I have every desire to keep those relationships. That's why I wanted to stay in the state. I love you, Vince, but they're not going to be the same. I mean, people are still going to like him, but it's not going to be. I mean, he's not going to get wall. into Jeff Rubies and get a, well, he might in Louisville. Yes. But in Lexington, he's not going to get a standing ovation, I think.
Starting point is 00:21:05 We, you know, that's all good, Vince, if you're coaching somewhere else, but you're coaching at our rival, the team we want to beat their brains out every year. 859-280, 2287. Before we go, the phones, a couple other little things, non-Vince-related, and I'm sure some people will want to talk about them on the phone as well. UK, it's announced they don't get NC State in the UK, or SEC, ACC, challenge. They get North Carolina. Yeah. Do you
Starting point is 00:21:33 like that more or less? I like it more. And it's in Rupp. So North Carolina's coming to Rup for the first time. I think when the last time they've been here. I mean, are we talking like, is it the Anthony Davis game? Is that the last time Carolina's been in a run? Because we played them a lot, but we played them in the CBS Classic. See, you may be right about that. They took them off the schedule when we got that CBS Classic thing going. It might be. I mean, we played them every other year. I know we played them in Wall's year in 2010 and we played them in Davis's year in 2012. Did we play them
Starting point is 00:22:03 with the twins and all that in 2014? I don't think we did. So I think the last time we saw it mean it's been it's been 14 years. Well I guess they're playing them in the fall so it'll be 13 years rather play them than NC State who by the way NC State loaded up and was NC State's probably going to be better than North Carolina this year but what do you think? But there's something about when North Carolina comes in to play Kentucky that game is just special. It just feels different. I remember I went to a couple of those games, and it just feels something special might happen. So even though
Starting point is 00:22:34 North Carolina is not as good as North Carolina of old, it's still that ugly baby blue North Carolina coming out there on the floor. This is a huge year for Hubert Davis too. I mean, if they don't have a good year, he might be replaced. They got a good recruiting class, but they're still ranked
Starting point is 00:22:50 in like the 20s. They spent, there's some reports. They spent more money on the portal than anybody, and they're still ranked in the 20s. But you're right. I mean, there's something about that jersey. And think about how many amazing Kentucky Carolina games have been in Rupp Arena. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Anthony Davis Block. Yes. John Wall gets introduced to the world in that game. Tashon Prince's five threes is in that game at Rupp Arena. Gerald Fitch, I think, hit a shot at the buzzer or very close to the buzzer to win there in Rupp Arena. Remember that? Those home and home series back days were awesome. I mean, that's four that I can think of in Rupp that were.
Starting point is 00:23:28 great games. Are there any others that you can think of? I can't remember anything where finishes like that. Those are four like legendary. What's just in the last 25 years? If we talk about road games,
Starting point is 00:23:41 the game where Malik Monk in Las Vegas. Well, yeah, there's been great ones. I mean, we've played them a lot in great games. We have. We beat them once when I was in law school down in Chapel Hill. I was at that game. That was the Jason Parker game.
Starting point is 00:23:55 But in Rupp, there's been a cool environment. So that means you get returned or up this year, North Carolina and Indiana. It's like the 80s are back. The old tubby schedule. We're all back-to-back Saturdays. You'd get Louisville, North Carolina, Indiana, pretty much. So I'm excited about it. Like I said, even though North Carolina's going to be a great team, it's still North Carolina. Shannon, you prefer North Carolina or a Will Wade-led NC State this year that loaded up on player. Probably the best NC State roster. I know he went to the Final Four a couple years ago, but probably the best NC State roster in 20 years.
Starting point is 00:24:27 Yeah, even though NC State might be better than North Carolina this year, I like North Carolina just because of the blue blood aspect. Kentucky, North Carolina just feels right. So Kentucky's schedule, if you're talking powerhouse teams, Kentucky's non-conference schedule is going to include Michigan State, North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville, Gonzaga, and who else I'm missing? St. John's. St. Johns.
Starting point is 00:24:53 So that's in the non-conference. That's six really good games. You've got a couple of traditional programs. You got Rick Patino. You got Mark Few. You got Tom Izzo. I mean, this is, I don't think this is the hardest non-conference we've ever had, but it might have as much marquee star power as any that we've ever had.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Yeah, those days of getting the school of the blind and little sisters of the poor coming in and Ruppering. Why do you always say that about little sisters of the poor? They're not a very good basketball team. Is that even really a place? Well, they're not a very good team. But I don't think it's also real. But go ahead. So, you know, the home season ticket holders were myself.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Well, they only get two games. I mean, they only get North Carolina in Indiana. But still, having those two games is better than Little Sisters of the Poor coming in. And then in conference play, the SEC, I don't think it's going to be nearly as good. I mean, I think it's going to be good. But it's not going to be nearly as good. You're going to have Florida is going to be really good. But just go look at those top teams.
Starting point is 00:25:53 I think Alabama's worse. Auburn's worse. Tennessee's worse I would say Florida is a little worse but they're still going to be really good but I think you know
Starting point is 00:26:05 a lot of these teams Texas may be the only team of the top teams that's going to be better I think in general the SEC is there for the taking this year yeah people still tooting on the Arkansas horn think they're going to be good again this year I mean they might be a little better but I don't think they're going to be great if I was ranking them right now
Starting point is 00:26:21 I put Kentucky second or third if I would go into the preseason the SEC and put Florida won and us too. Yeah. That's what I would do. I think that's fair. I should not just be in a UK station. I think that's fair.
Starting point is 00:26:30 You look at the talent this year. Yeah. So Kentucky and Carolina, a little bit of a surprise, because we're scheduled to play Carolina next year in the Champions Classic, which means we will not return to favor. We will not be going to Chapel Hill. They have to come here and there's no return back.
Starting point is 00:26:45 So does that mean, though, we could possibly go to Cameron? Well, I mean, would you like that? Yes. Just once in our career, I'd love to have it. I think, I could be wrong about this. I think our years are alternated. So I think Duke's playing at home this year, which means I don't think Duke will play at home next time.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Which makes me wonder if they'll ever align it so that we can play them. Because next year they'll go on the road and we'll be going on the road. So I wonder if maybe that's a problem. Who's up in the first shift? Just go to Corey. Corey, go ahead, Corey.
Starting point is 00:27:20 Hey, what's going on, guys? What's going on? What's going on? What's going on? I'm driving the country boy truck down to Frank. going today to sell some country boy beer so i'm here to give them a shout out it is very nice a country i didn't know you're going to be here it is nice country boy to be here they've been they're great they come to all of our stuff it's very nice and this woman has had at least six so go ahead
Starting point is 00:27:40 anyway so we were talking about schedules just now the SEC must pay money to give the kentucky arkansas schedule now one game a year that's ridiculous to me that's a great point yeah that was announced two days ago i appreciate the call tucky and arkansas only playing once. I appreciate the call. That's odd to me. I would think, I mean, the way the schedule is now, you play basically all the teams once except what, three teams?
Starting point is 00:28:11 How's it worth? There's three or four you played? We played twice last year. I can't remember. But we played Tennessee twice. We play Vandy twice. And then one other one. And they didn't give us Arkansas again.
Starting point is 00:28:21 How could it not be Arkansas? I mean, you think the SEC, they want these high-profile games. how could it not be Kentucky and Arkansas twice a year? I kind of feel like it's going to be Florida again. You know, last year we only played Florida once, and it was a great game. It was. And we won. We didn't have to go down there.
Starting point is 00:28:37 With Florida being the best team and us maybe being the second best team, I'm just guessing I think they gave us that slot to play Florida twice. Just a guess, though. It's not out yet, so we don't know. 859-28027. Shannon, this is a cool can. We'll be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:28:55 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live from Laura and Judd's house. That's right. Who they created quite a scene here. I had no idea what I was walking into. I didn't know if there would be, I didn't know if there'd be just them, a lot of people, and they created quite. It got cookies, country boy, got Mario running around. They made ham sandwiches? Oh, ham sandwiches.
Starting point is 00:29:28 Yes. That perked you up, didn't it? Yeah. See, this is going to be a high standard for everybody else we visit. That's the first one. We visit this summer. This is going to be a high standard. That's the Beach Boys.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Shannon, Brian Wilson passed away at 82 years old. We have Beach Boy fans in here. I see a lot of people shaking their heads. You know, I know the Beach Boys from this kind of music, but later on in their career, they did different kinds, didn't they, Shannon? A little bit. serious stuff. Yep, yep.
Starting point is 00:29:56 This is kind of the psychedelic part of their career. I felt like every band back then went through a psychedelic phase. Kenny Rogers even did that at one point. Yeah, but legendary singer, you know, of course, they kind of created the subgenre of surfer rock. At least that's right. Yeah. So I saw a little bit of the Beach Boys, I guess, like whatever version exists now,
Starting point is 00:30:16 at Bourbon Beyond last year, even though it wasn't really the Beach Boys. But, you know, one of those bands that always puts you in a good mood. If I'm going on vacation, I'm at the beach, I'm putting on to Beach Boys. Well, a lot of big Brian Wilson, one of those names you just know from music. Also, for people of our generation, Ananda, is that how you say her name? I think, Lewis, the MTV VJ that was on Total Request Live when we were in college. She was only 52 passed away of breast cancer, which I thought was very sad. You know, her picture popped up, Shaded on my feed, and I went, I know that woman.
Starting point is 00:30:52 How do I know that woman? How do I know that woman? And then I saw who it was and it made me sad. It apparently said she only had discovered she had it very recently and then passed away. Very sad, 52 years old. Yeah, the list of VJs out there that you can remember is like you can see their face. But you're like, I don't know where I know it from. So what do you got?
Starting point is 00:31:12 You got Carson Daly. Yeah. Adam Curry. Yeah. Your guy Jesse. You know that would do that, yeah, that guy. Yeah. What was the name of the Matt?
Starting point is 00:31:22 Penfield. Matt Penfield. Yeah, I'm buddies with him. Yeah. Oh, your buddies with him. Oh, yeah. We hang out.
Starting point is 00:31:28 We hang out every year at Bourbon and Beyond and louder the lifehouse. All right. Who knew, man? Who knew how much said it was friends with everybody? 859-280-2287. I do want to say, I've been trying to tell this story for the last few days and we haven't gotten to. All right. I want to tell you if I should be offended or if I should like consider this a compliment.
Starting point is 00:31:48 You tell me. Shannon and I would be great judges of this. the ladies of KS. Oh, by the way, Morhead State's baseball coach is going to come on here. Murray State. Him too. Murray State's baseball coach is going to come on here at 1130,
Starting point is 00:32:03 Dan Skirka. Yes. And get us ready for the College World Series. But the ladies of KSR Facebook page. Yes. I'm a huge fan. Are you ladies on it? You should be.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Get on Facebook and ask to be on it. There's like, I think they have 2,000 some members, all women. And Jolie. posted this on her on the page okay she showed a picture of a of a I guess it's a dog or is it a cat
Starting point is 00:32:29 well what do you think that's a dog well but she said cat anyway it doesn't matter point is yeah that's a dog this is Henry Harper okay I named
Starting point is 00:32:42 Harper for Matt yeah very nice very nice very nice that's very nice but then the next sentence it's epaulence it's epileptic and judgmental just like Matt. So that's why I got the middle name. Well, pretty accurate.
Starting point is 00:33:00 So do we call that a compliment to name your dog after me for being, quote, epileptic and judgment? You could have just stopped at the first part. You know, you just say I named it after Matt. I don't know you stop it epileptic. No, no, no, no, no, not that part. Just saying I named it after you. Named it after Matt.
Starting point is 00:33:18 I think that would have been very nice. but when they threw in that other sentence, I didn't know whether or not I could take that as a compliment or not. Shane, I think we got to judge. I think it's a fair adaptation. Why is it fair? I'm not judgmental. Let's just say if it were...
Starting point is 00:33:35 Be judgmental doesn't mean you're a bad person. No, okay. If it were Ryan, he was late, you would have definitely been judging him today. That's... Okay, see, I knew Shannon was going to bring up me being late. I knew he was going to do it. I knew Ryan wouldn't because he's been late.
Starting point is 00:33:47 I knew Shannon would bring it up, but it was only because I got the wrong address. But compliment. or not a compliment? Definitely not a compliment. Definitely not a compliment. Fair. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Shannon, compliment or not? Again, it was a compliment at first, but then when you throw in the other two parts, no, now it's not a compliment. You don't need the reason why you named it after you. You just say I named a dog after you.
Starting point is 00:34:08 That's enough. You don't have to say it. I appreciate you naming it after me. It did feel like that was a little bit of a backhanded slide at the end, but I'll, I will take it. One person writes, Matt, I don't care how good of friends we were. If you left me for my least favorite person,
Starting point is 00:34:27 and I assume that Louisville is Mark Stoop's least favorite person, I would not be able to get over it. That's kind of how I mean that... I would get over it, but I would be upset. And I think you should be upset. Stoops and Brom, though, they have a good relationship, right? Don't they? Yeah, but it doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:34:49 if the person your wife leaves you for you were friends with, that doesn't make it better. No. I'm just trying to justify. Makes it worse. Yeah. Makes it worse. Yeah. I'm trying to justify stoops every once saying if he's ever going to get over it.
Starting point is 00:35:04 Well, he'll get over it. But I just don't think their relationship. I don't care what they say. They can both say it'll be the same. It won't be the same. And I know this. And I have not talked to Vince on the phone yet. I texted with him a couple times.
Starting point is 00:35:20 He will regret this. He will. Whether he ever says it, I don't know, but he'll regret it. He will. Because it's not going to be the same at Louisville. Louisville is not the same as Kentucky. They're just not. They're better than us at football right now.
Starting point is 00:35:34 But as terms of as a place, you know this, they don't care as much as we do. No. They don't. The city doesn't revolve around the sport like it does here. It's not going to be the same. And Vince loves the glory. He does. I'm not criticizing him for that,
Starting point is 00:35:53 but he loves walking in the KS Bar, and when he comes in, he'd take a lap through the place because he likes it. Like he likes that, and that won't happen at Louisville. I mean, at Kentucky, Vince was the star of the football program.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Would you agree with that? He actually was. He was the star. He was a bigger star than Mark. Yeah. It will not be like, that at Louisville. The Brahms are infinitely bigger stars than every. The Brahms grew up there. There's been, there were like nine of them. So like it's going to be, it's a different thing.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Vince, I think someday would like to be a head coach. Does him becoming a general manager put him in a better position? It makes you less likely to be a head coach. Okay. You're not, he's no longer going to be on the field. Yeah. Right. I mean, he might go to practice, but that's not his job anymore. I wonder if he, if they thought that, he thought that would help him get a head job? He could have had a head job before. I think he would like to get a head job like at Kentucky. But you're not going to get your first coach. He's never even been a coordinator.
Starting point is 00:37:00 They're not going to like uplift him from tight-in coach to head coach. He could have gotten a job at Bowling Greener, Kent State, but he didn't want to do that. So it is what it is. I just worry about him, man. Like I see, I think he's going to regret it. I think he's going to regret it. I think he'll have a great time initially. Yeah, because they're going to win.
Starting point is 00:37:17 They're going to probably have a good season. But let me give an example of what they're going to do, because they already did this yesterday. What was what this guy tweeted out? Baxley R.J.R., who I don't know who that is, but he's a very prominent, like he's been online. He's a prominent Louisville fan over the years. He tweeted something, he said, Big Dog texting Matt Jones will have to stop once he officially begins this gig. I assume he has been communicated to him, and he understands why. I'm going to give you a little secret.
Starting point is 00:37:49 That won't stop. It won't stop. That's just vince. Like, that's part of what comes with. And you guys are going to always worry that I'm going to have an end on your thing. By the way, y'all got many coaches that text me. I got a text from one this morning. So you just need.
Starting point is 00:38:05 That ship has sailed if you are trying to stop your coaches from texting me. But he's always going to have one foot in Lexington. He just is. He loves this place too much. Yeah. You guys will text it. He likes you. You guys will continue.
Starting point is 00:38:17 But it's not just going to be me. it's going to be other people he's got i mean there's a prominent journalist who basically wrote a script yesterday on twitter that was Vince basically wrote it right like a Kentucky like that's what it is you know maybe not on Louisville kentucky game week maybe there won't be much communication but outside of that of course there's going to be and i would just say to louisville there are no coaches that i know of that are friends with louisville media no but there's a lot of louisville like Louisville coaches, I mean, remember who broke the Ketina Powell. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:53 Like, who broke that you guys were going to have to forfeit your title was me. Like, you all still have leaky ships. They're nice, but it's just what it is. So now that the announcement has become official, do you think Mark Stoops need to say something today? Today. Um, well, maybe, but soon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Whether it's today or Friday or next one he needs. He can't go silent until SEC media. days of July. Who's up next, Shannon? Judy. Judy, I got about a minute. Go ahead. Hey, Matt, I put my bid in to host you guys for your show this summer. Well, Judy, first of all, we're not doing that right now. We'll probably do it either tomorrow or Monday, and then you can put your bid in there, okay? Yesterday, I heard you say it was today. I know. I'll try again.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Okay, thank you, Judy. I got it. I got it. I understand. All right, bye. Appreciate it. Well, we won't need a speaker if we go to Judy's house. Judy about blew our equipment out. Good night. Woo. All right. That was loud.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Stop overpaying for sunglasses, Ryan Limbin, and check out Shady Ray's. Independent American-owned company started right here in Kentucky. Premium polarized shades for every activity, running, fishing, biking, golfing. Shady Raids is the best protection program in the industry with lost and broken replacement. Dan Skirka, the Murray State coach, will be on at 1130.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Plus, we're going to take questions from the crowd. Yes. They have questions. They have questions. We will see what they have to say right after this. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real.
Starting point is 00:40:59 From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlic on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:41:33 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Brett. My mama want you to weigh better. What? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:41:55 Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip. I'm Tad Ramos. I'm Tom Bo. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
Starting point is 00:42:22 I'm not worried about ballistic. I'm not worried about balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:43:02 What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast's Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:43:27 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night bases on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:43:45 Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like, After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:44:07 It is Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280, 2287. So this is this morning at 8 o'clock. Tyler Childers released his first single from his new album. It's going to come out July 25th. This is not a new song. This is nose on the grindstone, which is the very first song, Shannon. I ever heard Tyler play in Amsterdam. I was just talking to a pilot who has flown back and forth to Amsterdam.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Very first time I heard, I walked into the bar and heard him sing. He was singing this song, and I went, dude, who's that? Yeah. And now, fast forward eight years later, and he's releasing it. Releasing a new album. sounds like it's all going to be songs that are old that he's just never released, which makes me very excited, because there's a lot of those that I like, including that Tulsa Turnaround song.
Starting point is 00:45:01 I love to get to put that out. Tennessee Blues would be a great one. Oneida. So we'll see. But this is the only one that they've played. There's something about this song. It's haunting, and his voice just makes it resonate. And everybody in Kentucky that likes Tyler knows this song.
Starting point is 00:45:17 Oh, absolutely. When he plays it rough, the crowd sings this. But I do wonder if the people in the rest of the country know it like we do, and they will hear soon when this comes out. My 27-year-old son, this is his favorite Tyler Childers song. It's one of mine, probably because it was the first one I heard. But Rick Rubin, Shannon, is going to be producing that album. He did albums with like Jay-Z and Dr. Dre, and he's now also doing Tyler Childers.
Starting point is 00:45:43 How about that? He's done, yeah, albums all across like every genre, rock, RV. Every kind of music. Somebody wrote me and you said you knew this. Brian Wilson wrote songs with Charles Manson for the Beach Boys. Is that true? There were a couple of songs that Charles Manson wrote with the Beach Boys. And I think there was a dispute as to who actually wrote the songs.
Starting point is 00:46:05 If I were the Beach Boys, I'd say, Charles, you can have them, man. Just don't kill me. You can have the songs, man. That's wild. I didn't know that. All right, I have a quick story before you go to the phone and ask your opinion. All right? Do you know the story about the Red Sox player?
Starting point is 00:46:18 who claimed his dad played for the Yankees. Have you read this? No. So Hunter Dobbins, I don't know who that is, but apparently he's a Red Sox player. He's been talking a lot of trash against the Yankees. And the Red Sox play, I've been playing the Yankees, and he said, we're going to beat the Yankees. My dad played for the Yankees, but I would never play for the Yankees.
Starting point is 00:46:37 And the Yankees traded him, and it taught me that to hate the Yankees, so he's made this whole narrative around, I hate the Yankees, because my dad was there and they disrespected him. New York Post does the story last night. His dad never played for the Yankees. His dad was never drafted by the Yankees. He never played in the minors. This seems like an odd thing to lie about because it's pretty easy to find out.
Starting point is 00:47:04 He played for the Diamondbacks for like a year and a half, but never played for the Yankees. And now Yankees fans are just letting him happen. Oh, yeah. That he was like, you know, you had to lie that your dad played for the Yankees. So they asked him about it yesterday, and he was like, he basically threw his dad under the bus. He basically was like, well, my dad told me he played for the Yankees. Which may be true.
Starting point is 00:47:29 So I'm like, well, that's what I was going to ask you. Do you believe the son made it up to create this trash-talking narrative? Or do you believe that dad lied to him and said, I played for the Yankees when he really only played in the minor leagues for the Diamondbacks? I'm going to lean that way. You know, there's a lot of dads. This is in 1996. Like this isn't that long ago. It wasn't like he was playing in the 30s.
Starting point is 00:47:51 Like this is like recent. A lot of dads in this room, myself included. We often like to brag on ourselves a little bit in front of our boys, trying to make ourselves look a little bigger than we actually are. I can see Dad saying, I'll play for the Diamondbacks. Yeah, I also played for the Yankees, but they traded me. Yeah, Shannon, dad made it up, right? I think so.
Starting point is 00:48:09 And now son has to pay for the sins of the father, right? I'm sure Dad made it up. But, I mean, you could go back and research this. You could find out, you could verify whether or not your dad actually did play for the Yankees. Like you said, it wasn't that long ago. There are records of it. I feel like the dad is to, the dad has to, like, protect his son and go, hey, son, this whole trash talking was actually the diamondbacks I played for. If your dad, like, if my dad play for the Yankees, I would want to go look it up.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Like, I know that kids aren't impressed by their parents, but come on, your dad played for the Yankees. You didn't ever go back and look up his stats. But you would also, like, you wouldn't assume. assume your dad was lied. Right. No, but I don't want to see it. My mom worked for the Harrison County Commonwealth's attorney, or so she says. But I didn't feel like I needed to go to the Harrison County Prosecutor's Office.
Starting point is 00:49:01 To research that. To research it. You believe her at her word. And I'm sure. But I hope she's telling the truth because I always say that when we go to Cynthia. Karen Blondell. What if I never lived there? I bet you did.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Oh, we've got too many people said they used to babysit you when you were in Cynthia. There's a lot of them. Yeah, I don't think that many people babysitting me. But for the kid, I think he just takes Dad at his word, and he just got caught. Well, now that he's become enemy number one for the Yankees fans because of it. Who's next, Shannon? All right, let's go to Steve. Steve, how are you, Steve?
Starting point is 00:49:32 Doing great, guys. Thanks for having me on. First of all, you missed one VJ, Kennedy. Oh, Kennedy. She's on, like, Fox News now or something, right? Didn't she like a right-wing pundit at this point? But she used to be, am I right about that? She's a libertarian.
Starting point is 00:49:49 I don't know if you call right-man-law-man. Yeah, I'd call that right-wing pundit. But, yeah, she was on MTV back in the day. You're right. And she's on the Gutfeld show a lot. So the second thing is, y'all, hey, guys, I love Gutfeld. Well, everybody has her fault. Dennis Wilson is the one that got the song from Manson.
Starting point is 00:50:14 Who's Dennis Wilson? Is that Brian's brother? Dennis Wilson was a brother. He was in the beach boys. He died in a surfing accident. And he's the one that gave him the song, but he hung out with Manson and all the women, because, you know, that was a good situation for him. But, yeah, but he's the one that presented the song, and they put it on their album. All right, well, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:50:37 There you go. I didn't know the history of Charles Batson. That feels like something you would know a lot about. I read that book, Helter Skelter.
