Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at 511 in Hamburg, celebrating the Army's 250th birthday.
Starting point is 00:03:19 We have had a great time here. Ryan deadlifted 240. We opened up, cut the cake for the 250th birthday. How's the cake? You already made a mess of it. Really good. I had to replenish all the nutrients I lost deadlifting all that enormous amount of weight. You think there's a lot of nutrients in that? Yeah. It looks good. At least you have that. Hey, by the way, if you join the Army, here's some benefits, Shannon. Full college tuition coverage.
Starting point is 00:03:43 That's great. Scholarships, trade training, full medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, even for family members. And a ton of skills you can learn. We were talking about some of the jobs that you could do. And, you know, even if that's not for you, it's take a time, take a second. this weekend to celebrate the Army 250 years. Probably every single person listening to this has someone in their family or a friend who's been in the armed forces and who's been in the Army. And this is a good time to think about it today on the 250th anniversary tomorrow. I want to give a shout out, 18-year-old Jacob Browning back there.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I coached him when he was a little guy in football, signed up, joined the Army. He's here to help celebrate. You're 18? Now, that's a 35-year-old mustache you got right there. Man, the Army will put hair on your face. That's a man right there. Seriously, congratulations. Congratulations on doing that.
Starting point is 00:04:38 859-280-2287. Before we go back to phones, let's go over. There's a bunch of sporting events this weekend that I'm going to talk about here in the second hour. But let's start with the one that I think is the most ridiculous, Shannon. In Cincinnati, tomorrow night, the Savannah bananas are playing at Great America Ballpark. And they are, it's sold out. I've had more people say to me, Matt, you go on the Savannah Bananas. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:05:04 I sold my tickets that I was able to buy. Got some good money for the Savannah Bananas tickets. Would you go? Absolutely. I've always wanted to go, but you have to win a lottery just to be able to buy tickets. Well, we see the ticket holders. Oh, yeah. Well, us peasants have to win a lottery to be able to get tickets to it.
Starting point is 00:05:25 But I've always wanted to go. It's kind of like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball. It looks like a lot of fun. It is a perfect example of how things will go viral and be here. I mean, they are getting insane crowds this summer. I don't know how long that will be able to continue, but it's wild the crowds they're getting. They went from selling out minor league stadiums to now selling out major league baseball stadiums.
Starting point is 00:05:45 They were in Louisville last year. They're sold out football stadiums. That's crazy. They sell twice. They showed out Charles, sold out Charlotte Speedway twice. Wow. Back to back nights. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:05:58 crazy to me. And they just make it so much fun for the fans. If a fan catches a foul ball, the player's out. So they play their own form of baseball, banana ball, they call it. Is that right? The fan catches it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So if there's a foul ball and you catch it, the guy's out. That's a good. I just, here's my only thing I don't like about it. I don't like their stupid dancing umpire. Because like if you watch the game, oh, everybody said, awe, if you watch the game, just all of a sudden they'll be playing and then all of a sudden he just gets up and dances and everybody goes crazy. and for some reason that annoys me, and I don't know why. They also have a clock.
Starting point is 00:06:32 It only goes two hours. The game ends after two hours, no matter what it is. I watched the documentary they had on them and fell in love with them, and I've always wanted to see them. So, yeah, next time you get tickets. Offer them to Shannon and me first before you go selling them and making all that money. They always play the party animals, I think, is the team they always play. There's a few teams.
Starting point is 00:06:47 The party animals, like the butt monsters or something like that. I don't think that's a team. There's like three or four teams they play. But anyway, and by the games are real. Like, they don't win everyone. I was going to ask you that. Like, you know, the Washington General is only one, like, once or twice, I think, ever. The other teams will win sometimes.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I think Savannah's better, but the other teams will win. All right, so we went, we talked about the board. UK announced another thing yesterday, which is they're putting, they asked the university for $131 million for athletic projects. The board granted 71 and they put, I think, 50 under review. I thought it was kind of interesting, Ryan, about the 71, since that was what they had to detail. 41 is going, or excuse me, 40 is going to football renovations, which includes some new suites, an updated sound system, thankfully, and Wi-Fi. They're going to have Wi-Fi.
Starting point is 00:07:44 We've been asking for that for years. I don't know if they'll have it this fall, but hopefully for the next one. So Wi-Fi, so that's good. They're going to do soccer and softball renovation. So it was football, soccer, softball. What was interesting to me about that is we've talked about sports that I could have seen getting cut. I kind of wondered if soccer might be one of them because a lot of the SEC teams do not play soccer. Looks like, no, they're putting an investment in it.
Starting point is 00:08:08 The other one is they took a $31 million loan for balancing the budget. But it was interesting in the conversation about approving it, they made a point that I do think in today's world, Mitch, Barnhart again, needs to be alluded for. This will be the first time that Kentucky's ever had to take a loan for its expenses. They said, Mitch Barnhart said, we expect to pay it back in like three years. But that noted, we are the only team in the SEC, rhyme with a balanced budget. We are the only SEC athletic program that operates in the black. At other schools, they have to take money from tuition, the general fund, etc. UK athletics operates as its own individual body
Starting point is 00:08:58 and comes in the black every year. I bet you there's only a handful of schools in America that do that. I do think Kentucky, especially Barnhart, deserves credit for that. To have successful programs and actually balance the budget is pretty impressive. That's why he's so respected across the country
Starting point is 00:09:17 as an athletics director. It's not necessarily what his team do, but on the business side of it, and you just laid it out for us. That's amazing. He's able to do that year in, year out, balance the budget for their athletics budget that spends a lot of money. Finally, Jay Billis was on a podcast and said something that I get asked about a lot. I got asked yesterday at the house, Judd and Laura's house we were at yesterday, which is Matt. Is anything ever going to be done about the transfer portal specifically, you know, how long people stay?
Starting point is 00:09:47 Jay Billis had an interesting point. Now, I don't know, Shannon, if I agree with this. I'm not sure I think he's going to be right about it. this, but he's very smart and very respected. He predicted that as part of starting July 1st, as part of the new revenue sharing, that schools are going to make kids sign contracts and basically sign two-year deals to come to play at the school. Say, okay, you want us to pay you X amount of money? You have to agree to play here for two years. He says he thinks that will make it to where next year's transfer portal has a third as many people as now. That's interesting to me. Now, I wonder, Shannon, if players will just say no. If you want me,
Starting point is 00:10:30 I'm only signing for one year. Yep. But then schools could say, all right, what if I gave you $100,000 more and it's two years? You know, 100,000 more a year? I don't know, but it'll be interesting to say, Billis thinks that schools are going to do the two years pretty consistently. Would you like that? But you'd also be locked in, by the way. If the kid doesn't work out, you're going to You got to get him anyway. It'll be like in the pros. If he comes and he said, it doesn't work out. Sorry, you're still paying him for two years.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Yeah, it's a gamble on both sides. It's all going to come down to, you know, negotiating skills per school and per player. You know, there are so many players in the transfer portal this year, like thousands that were in there. I think that this might give it a little bit more stability if you sign players to two years. So I think as a lean, I kind of like it a little bit. I'm fine with it, but I tend to disagree. agree with Jay, right? I think a lot of players are going to go, hey Kentucky, you want me to sign for two years? Well, Yukon only wants me to sign for one year, and I got more freedom.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I'm going to Yukon. I kind of think the market is going to make it hard for schools to get guys to sign for two years. Then what if a guy signs for two years and is eligible, or, you know, like, let's say the draft. He still be able to go to the draft. He just couldn't transfer to another college. If you're a high-end player of five-star, maybe in a four-star, I wouldn't lock in for two years. I didn't want to just lock in for one year. You have that one good year? maybe you can move on or go pro. I think there would be players that would want to do it, but they're probably not the best players.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Yep, yeah. I think you're right about that. I think the best players would want to have the freedom to do it every year. That's just my guess, but that's kind of how I feel. And then would the team necessarily want that type of player to sign for two years? Because like you said, it may not work out for the team. It's an interesting wrinkle, and it's all the more reason that the people you have in the position doing this stuff need to be business people.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Yeah. You know, they don't need to be just Johnny, Johnny, Joe, They need to be people who understand contracts, who understand negotiation and business. You don't want to pay a player an extra $100,000 to come for a second year. Then it doesn't work out. Now you're paying that player all that money to sit on the bench. I don't know how it's going to look starting July 1st. But I'm telling you, and I'm not, people know his name if you're really involved.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I'm not going to give it just because I don't know if he wants that kind of. But you and I both know right. on the basketball side of things, there's a dude that's been doing this for Kentucky for the last three years in the collective sense that everybody should give a thank you to. Because he negotiates these deals, and he honestly is part,
Starting point is 00:13:06 not as much as Pope, but he's partially why these guys end up here. And nobody knows who he is, because he's on the private side. He does the club blue stuff. But he's been hugely important. And it's because they found a dude who can relate to people who's really smart,
Starting point is 00:13:23 who young people really like and knows how to deal with their agents. I got to think, Ryan, a lot of schools don't have a dude like that. No, and he's very valuable, and he's got a financial background. So that's what it makes him even more valuable when you come to negotiating these, quote-unquote, deals they're working out with these players.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And then he represents a lot of these guys when they go to the NBA. So he represents Bam Otobio and Anthony Davis and all of those guys. Kentucky's lucky to have that guy. And I guarantee you most people don't know his name, Shannon. Do you even know? I don't know his name, but whoever you are, thank you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Well, he knows who he is. He's probably listening right now. Big salute. Who's up next? Bob is up next. Is this Bob in Jamestown? Because I have something to say to him if he does. No.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Okay. By the way. Hang on just a second, Bob. This made me a little sad. The ladies of KSR, you know, I mentioned that Facebook page. Yes. They had like over 100 people try to join the page. And when you do, you have to ask questions.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Some of them, I think, were newer listeners, so they didn't know the answer the question. So I told the woman that runs it, make the questions easier. So they just made a question of, name your favorite KSR caller? No. 35% said Bob and James. Wow. Now, I'm going to argue it's because that's the only one they know. Because otherwise, I don't think women would pick Bob and Jamestown.
Starting point is 00:14:41 I think Bob and Jamestown created a bunch of Facebook accounts. Women's accounts? Yes. It checks out. That might be right. All right, go ahead, Bob. This is old Bob. I understand, Bob.
Starting point is 00:14:54 I mentioned people that have contributed to the professional from Kentucky. Yes. One, I think, has won championships in the ABA, and he played for championships in the NBA, was Cliff Hagan. I mentioned him, Bob. The next segment. The next segment I mentioned him.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Okay. But anyway, he and Frank Ramsey were a pair at Boston, and we had Arrowback. So the biggest mistake he ever made was when he got rid of a Cuthaghan. Yeah, I appreciate the call, Bob. Yes, we mentioned him. I did forget him in the first round, but otherwise I think we did a good job with our list.
Starting point is 00:15:38 When it's all said and done with Cal Guys, what's going to be the final ranking of Cow guys? When it's all said and done, when they're all retired, how are we going to rank in the pros? Cow guys in the pros. the pros. Like you laid out, Anthony Davis is going to be number one. You think SGA doesn't pass him?
Starting point is 00:15:52 I mean, there's a world where SGA could be the MVP a couple times. I mean, it's possible, but you still would go Davis. I go Davis one, Shea, too. Then it gets a little dicey. Maybe Carl Anthony Towns is going to be in the top five. Julius Randall may end up in the top five. Booker? Booker.
Starting point is 00:16:08 What do you think? Anybody, any young guy? Bam. Bam's easy to forget, but Bam's a, I mean, Bam's a two-time Olympic. gold medal winner won a title. I think he hasn't won a title. Burry is still out there. He won a title.
Starting point is 00:16:25 I don't know if he'll get it next year, but if he stays in San Antonio long enough, he could. Tyrese Maxie? Yeah, so just if you're going to predict, I'm going to say, I'm going to say Shay ends up number one. Are you really? Because I think he's going to be good for another five years, and that team is set up to be good for another five years. They're young. So I'm going to go, Shee won, 82, Booker 3, Carl, Carl, four maxi five i think that's how it ends up you can't argue against it listen you know you try to go
Starting point is 00:16:55 on just on titles if you win a title and that's why you know maybe jemal murray may sneak up there pretty close to the top five yeah well it's i mean he's going to have here's another way to look at how many hallfamers is he going to have she's going to be a hallfamer anthony davis is going to be a hallfamer the other ones are good booker going to be a hallfamer he's going to be close he and carl are going to be close yeah but anthony davis and and shay he'll at least have two, maybe he has four. I mean, it's plausible. We'll see. They're close. They're very close.
Starting point is 00:17:27 They're close. I don't know if they will be or not. Tell me about Stockton mortgage. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:18:11 I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down,

Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 in the TikTok podcast. network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show,
Starting point is 00:18:55 I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:19:12 Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss. Parker. Listen to the Clipper Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Why is everyone obsessed with romance right now? Like everyone.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Your co-worker who, quote unquote, doesn't read, is reading romance. Your mom, book talk, the entire internet. I'm Sanjana Basker. I'm Tyler McCall. And this is Radio 831, a romance podcast. The books? the tropes, the adaptations, the drama, the discourse. And what all of it says about how we actually love, yearn, and obsess.
Starting point is 00:20:02 We're going to Weathering Heights, which, for the record, is not a romance novel. And yet it has haunted the romance genre for 200 years. We're getting into dark romance, age gaps, certain Russian hockey players. And sentient objects, in love, which is a thing. That's the kind of conversation we're having every episode. Listen to the Radio 831 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you eat if you had to start over? Real simple, poor man's, poor woman's food.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Black beans, chicken, rice, plantains. Yeah. That's poor people's food, man. But being Nigerian, that's, come on, a go-to. On the podcast eating while broke, I sit down with celebrities, entrepreneurs, and creators as they revisit the meals they once relied on. and the moments that shaped their journey, named Best Food Podcasts at the 2006 I Heart Podcast Awards.
Starting point is 00:21:01 This show is all about real conversations on money, growth, and what it really takes to make it. It was times where me and Lex were, like, definitely get into it. Because we're not making any money. Like, I need to start making money. Like, why are we doing this? But I don't know. I think we just always knew that we had something really good,
Starting point is 00:21:17 and eventually people were going to catch on. And so we just thugged it out. The full season is available. to binge right now listen to eating while broke from the black effect podcast network on the i heart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast welcome back it is kentucky sports radio here live at 5-11 at hamburg got a lot of army tactical gear like sort of you know hunting the manly stuff in there they want me to come and get some manly stuff when it's over i'm gonna look manly i'm waiting for you yes you are i'm waiting for you to put that helmet on i'm gonna look oh i forgot i need to
Starting point is 00:21:55 that here in just a second. Text machine, 772, 774, 5254. What person writes, Matt, I enjoyed listening to your show last night. The Matt Jones show with Billy. It was fun watching Billy get educated about politics. Now if he was, Billy was good last night. I was proud of him. He edited out one line. He didn't want to be said over the radio because he was embarrassed. But beyond that, we put it all up there. I understood. You were right to do that. So check that. So check that. out this weekend just us talking about stuff and uh i got a lot more positive feedback than i thought would on it so thank you to all the view who listened yeah you you you warned it's not a sports broadcast it's not and it's you know uh don't i mean i don't want to get into it but just uh just check
Starting point is 00:22:42 it out if you want uh on there one person says matt why wouldn't schools sign a contract with the player and allow an opt out for the school if the player doesn't work out well why would you say that wouldn't happen. Because the player would have the ability. Why in the world would the player sign that? I mean, that's the thing. Part of what has happened with all this is we've given players something they used to not have, which is rights.
Starting point is 00:23:06 So why in the world is the player going to sign something where the school can get out of it and they can't? Because you know what? It's not. And you know what will happen is another school that's trying to get him instead of us will just say, all right, we'll sign the same deal, but we won't make you put the opt out. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:23:22 So, I mean, that's the thing is that. You've heard me say over the years when we've talked about this, college sports has been the only entity in America that has not operated as capitalism. Now it's capitalism. You're going to have to offer a better deal than your competitor to get someone to come work for you. That's what it's going to be. And so Kentucky can say, hey, we'll give you this. We can opt out after a year.
Starting point is 00:23:46 You can't. But if Tennessee wants to say something different, Tennessee's going to get them. I'm like, that's going to be how it is. It's capitalism. When you're negotiating these contracts can, like, insurance and benefits and all that stuff get thrown into negotiations as part of something? Well, no, I mean, part of the settlement is giving those people insurance. Well, they've always had insurance, but now they're going to have workers' comp. You know, part of what the NCAA did, or not workers' comp, but like if people get hurt, though, part of what the NCAA did is, and this was good.
Starting point is 00:24:14 They put a chunk of money from the major schools away that goes to the small schools for when players get serious insurance. injuries because there were small schools out there that could not pay for that. And now the large schools, unbelievably to me, are actually agreeing to put money so that if a kid plays for, you know, I don't know, Murray State and he gets hurt and it's a long-term life injury, there's money for him, which is good. That's a positive. I think Billis is right on on this. I mean, more and more college has become closer to the NBA, so I can see contracts being a part of the college game. Yeah, Cal, Cal Perry, some reports that he's called and said to the Knicks, I'm available. What do you make about that?
Starting point is 00:25:03 Not shocked, same old cow, kind of throwing his name out there trying to drill up some exposure again for him, get his name out there like he did when he was here, you know, I'm flirting with UCLA, you know, the 76ers. Well, I think when he flirted with UCLA and with Cleveland and those, I think those schools actually wanted him. Shannon, I don't know why the Knicks would want him. I mean, no offense, but he's a 71, two years old, and why would they want him now? That's a great question. And usually when you're the coach and you're making the first move, it's not a good sign. You know, I think that they should come after him first if they're interested. I do think it's clear the Knicks fired their coach without any plan.
Starting point is 00:25:42 Yeah. Because they've gone to like six different NBA coaches, and the coaches, their teams have said, no, you can't talk to them. You know what? It serves them right, though. It does. took them to the Eastern Conference finals. But like Jason Kidd, M.A. Udoku, who else? Quinn Snyder.
Starting point is 00:26:00 They've already been turned down by Billy Donovan. I mean, like, I don't know. They really did not know who they were going to get. See, when they did it, I thought it was exactly the opposite. I thought they had a deal in place with somebody or why else when they let Tibido go like that? But obviously, I was wrong. It looks like they did not.
Starting point is 00:26:14 They just decided to do it. Who's next? Danny is up next. Danny. Go ahead, Danny. Hey guys. Hey, I just want to give you a little bit of some flowers. What makes this show so special to me is you all are traveling around the state and doing these special remotes. That, you only just kill it when you do that.
Starting point is 00:26:38 And I just want to thank you for that. And then on the Miss Marathon. That's very kind of you. Everybody says, oh, he has a better chance to win at Louisville. No. He has an easier chance to win. win low because the ACC suck. That's it. That's actually a better way to put it. I agree with that, sir. I appreciate to call. Yes, Vince might win more at Louisville, but because it's easier there.
Starting point is 00:27:03 They're playing in the ACC. I mean, again, well, let's do this. I'm going to pull up Louisville's football schedule. Okay. So let's, you tell me, who does Kentucky play in the SEC next year? Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss. Carolina, Auburn, and Vanderbilt. Yep. All right, can I read you Louisville's conference schedule for 2025? Okay. Well, first it has to come up.
Starting point is 00:27:29 But 2025 schedule. All right, so here's Louisville. This is their conference schedule. Well, here, let me just read you their whole schedule. Eastern Kentucky, James Madison, Bowling Green. They're 3 and 0. Now, here's their conference schedule. Pitt, Virginia, Miami, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Cal, Clemson,
Starting point is 00:27:50 SMU. Good grief. So who has a better chance of winning those games? Lowell. So I like that. I need to start using the word, Shannon, easier instead of better, because it is easier. It just is. Yeah, I mean, the ACC versus the SEC in football, there is zero comparison to the two. I mean, you're, you know, you're playing against the top teams in America when you're in the SEC, and there's no Georgia, there's no Tennessee, even close. And I also remind you that last year, when I think Louisville. went nine and three or whatever they were. They won almost every game on their last possession. But they also didn't play Clemson. Right.
Starting point is 00:28:29 And they didn't play, and there was somebody else good, but they didn't play Clemson the best team in the conference. So it is worth noting that they get some breaks with the schedule. You got one team that's going to probably flirt with the playoffs, and that's Clemson. We've got four teams coming to our field of home games that are flirting with the playoffs next year. Yeah, I mean, well, it's for Tennessee, Georgia,
Starting point is 00:28:49 Texas, Florida, all go into the conference thinking they can make the playoff next year. Probably Ole Miss, too. And Ole Miss. So we have five games of teams and Louisville thinks they can make the playoffs. So you can argue half our schedule is against teams that think they can do it. Conference home win this year. Don't get me with some sense. We'll take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:29:10 Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio here live, 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. You took a picture of me in the, what do you call the headpiece there? Is it like an Army Combat helmet, an ACH. You took a picture and I do not look like a military person. I think you'll get this. You didn't do a great job of framing that. Well, I think the ladies are going to endure you as much as they do in your cowboy hat.
Starting point is 00:29:38 I don't think you in that helmet. I don't think that was exactly the same. But that's all right. Cornbread hemp, though, this weekend, if you're trying to rest, relax from this heat, Cornbreadhip.com, the seltzers. What's your favorite seltors? Salted watermelon is my absolute favorite. Really?
Starting point is 00:29:53 Yeah. Salted. Teach tea. That one's a good one, too. That's a good one. Yes, I tried it. Cornbread hemp is The Good Life. They're our new title sponsor of the Matt Jones show on WHS and podcast.
Starting point is 00:30:04 Cornbread hemp, use my code KSR, 30% off your first order. Cornbread hemp and cornbread hemp.com. There are a lot of sporting events this weekend. This is another June weekend with a lot that you don't think of, so I'm going to run through them really quick. Let's go. I'm wearing an Edmonton Oilers hoodie. I know a lot of y'all don't watch hockey,
Starting point is 00:30:23 but this has been like the best series, maybe ever. I mean, it's been last night they won in overtime, or again, five to four. It's two games to two. In Edmonton and game five, they are saying it could be one of the loudest games in the history of hockey. Wow. Edmont, there are already Edmonton people waiting in line for the game on Saturday
Starting point is 00:30:44 to get ready for it. will you watch any of it? I probably won't watch a second of it, but I am paying attention more to it than probably I ever have just because it's been, every game has been like the Florida players, Shannon, are like you. They're little annoying gnats. Wait a minute now.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Anoint gnats. No, I mean, they try to fight. Let me tell you what one of them did last night. All right, so the goalie was out on the ice warming up, right? So they're hitting shots at him, and he's moving to get him and sliding. Yep. Florida's backup goalie went right in his line of vision and was just mocking whatever movement he made. No, I'm not kidding.
Starting point is 00:31:24 As he was like trying to, he knew the goalie would be looking at him and whatever, the backup goalie just did the exact same thing he did. Rather than warming up himself, he existed only to troll. Do you like that? I haven't watched any of the finals, but now I know who my favorite team is. Florida. So I will be watching. There was a guy. Wayne Gretzky was on the postgame show. There's a guy's names like Biz or something, and he wears a mustache.
Starting point is 00:31:51 He's kind of there, Charles Barkley and hockey. He said, of the eight most annoying players in the league, Ryan, Florida has five of them. Wow. So I mean, so that's... Quite a ratio. So that's probably why they're known as that. Well, they obviously must be good. They won last year trying to repeat again this year in the finals.
Starting point is 00:32:08 I'm for Edmonton. They care more. All right. NBA finals. Same thing. Game four tonight. Indiana could be absolutely wild. If they win, they could win the series. Tickets are insane right now. If you go on the secondary market, I know you're excited.
Starting point is 00:32:26 I got my Pacers hat on, man. I've been sporting it all the last couple weeks. Pacers will not lose at home tonight. Win, up 3-1. Will not lose. Can't lose at home tonight. I'm pulling for Indiana, but I picked OKC and 6. I'm going to stick with that.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Indiana, I don't think wins another game. Boop-boop-oo. do college world series first time in ever eight teams seven different conferences here they said there'd be no parity but eight teams seven different conferences the SEC is the only one with two you got uh you got LSU you got Arkansas UCLA Louisville Oregon State coastal Carolina who am I missing Murray Murray I'm an idiot Murray State there's still somebody else anyway Miami, Miami. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:33:14 No, Miami lost. Never mind. Shut up, Matt. Are you going to watch? It's crazy. Only two SEC teams, and they're going to play each other in the first round. And they're probably the two best teams left in the tournament. But what's the only state that has two teams in the college world series?
Starting point is 00:33:26 Kentucky. I don't count Louisville. We have one team in the state. Okay. No, I'm kidding. I like the city. Yeah. I'll be watching all the games.
Starting point is 00:33:33 You're rooting against Louisville? Of course. Yeah. Got a route against Louisville. The U.S. Open is taking place. through the first two rounds it's the second hardest course they've ever had in the U.S. Open. A guy this
Starting point is 00:33:45 morning shot 51 on the front which is really really really really bad leaderboard kind of stinks though the good uh huh you can do that that's exactly right the leaderboard kind of stinks do you like watching the U.S. Open because the golfers all struggle do you enjoy that
Starting point is 00:34:01 because they do struggle they do struggle and I do enjoy that but I don't watch it all right so you're out on the U.S. Open I might watch a little bit of it it it does make it more relatable for somebody like myself who is terrible at golf to watch professionals be terrible at golf. You need to watch. There's a shot Jordan Speeth hit yesterday that he hit it like a foot. He was trying to hit a full shot and it literally went a foot. So there is something about that that's good. I also like the story about Scotty Sheffler's Venmo being public. Somebody got a hold of it.
Starting point is 00:34:28 Now people are sending them tips when they win bets or maybe if they didn't win a bet. They're asking him for money. And then finally, Ryan, you can answer this. The high school baseball and softball tournament Feels like it goes on for two to three months. It is still going on this weekend. The boys, I think it's like Trinity, Boyd County. PRP and somebody else. And then the girls is like assumption. So you tell us you know better than anybody who's winning.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Well, you know, they used to do it all the Sweet 16 in one weekend. But then it got to the championship game and teams were having to throw like a JV kid that only threw like, didn't throw one varsity game all year in the state championship game. So they got a final four, gave him another week. so their best pitchers can pitch this weekend in the final four. That's what they do for baseball. PRP and Trinity are in opposite brackets. I think it's going to be an all Louisville final PRP.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Yeah, I know people don't like necessarily always cheering for Louisville schools. But on Saturday, if you have nothing to do and it ends up being PRP and Trinity, that might be one of the better high school finals they've had in years here. Those are two really, really good teams. PRP, by the way, I hadn't won anything in a long time, so I'm kind of pulling for PRP. What about you? I think I'm going for PRP as well. Now, you talked about the pitching side of this.
Starting point is 00:35:41 For softball, though, softball players can throw... They pitch until their arms ball. They can throw every game, right? Yeah, those girls can pitch like every game. I never understood, like, exactly why that is. I know it's a different motion. Different motion. It doesn't hurt your arm as much, but I guess you're trying to consider not putting it
Starting point is 00:35:54 at risk so they spread it out over two weeks. Yeah, the girls in the College World Series is pitch and pitch and pitch. Who's up next? Jared is up next. Jared. Go ahead, Jared. Hey, man. I just am very disappointed.
Starting point is 00:36:09 pointed in the UK fans that are wishing Vince Merrill success or happiness at U of L. I mean, my dad, for instance, I mean, died in 2013, great friends play football at Flage High School with Howard Schnollemberger. Never ever heard him wish him success at U.S.L when he always felt that he betrayed, you know, UK and him. remain friends. I mean, Howard came to my dad's funeral, but he never wished him well at U of L when they played. It's just disappointing. I mean, in fact, take my dad, when U of L used to play in basketball, the UFS.S.R Soviet Union team, we would all gather around and cheer for the Soviet Union team. We just can't cheer for UOVL. That's a great, yeah, fair enough. I get it. I appreciate it call. I generally agree with you. I can't cheer for a little.
Starting point is 00:37:08 did have a guy write me on the text machine. I don't have it pulled up or I would read exactly what he said. But he said something like Matt, if you only listen to KSR, you would think that the state that are Kentucky fans all hate Louisville. He's like, but in my experience, over half of Kentucky fans still cheer for Louisville when Kentucky's not playing. I think that's nonsense. But I also live in my KSR world. Do you think there's any chance that's true? They're rivals. I don't think you want your rival to win ever. But do you know people who also cheer for Louisville? Maybe your dad might be the only one.
Starting point is 00:37:44 He's a Louisville fan. Yeah. Yeah. I don't. Before I got it. I can't imagine cheering for Kentucky and Louisville. Hillary Clinton is the only person I could see cheering for both teams. Because you have to have principles.
Starting point is 00:38:00 You have to have principles. I'm still mad at Andy Beshear for that Louisville half. And I know he's the governor of Kentucky, and I get it. but like principles. Yeah, I don't know anybody in real life that pulls for both. I could not cheer for Louisville or Tennessee in any game. Unless they were playing with each other or playing against each other, I'd pick the one I hated the least in it.
Starting point is 00:38:26 But otherwise, other teams, there's a world. There's even a world I can see myself cheering for Duke. I cheer for the football team sometimes. There's no world I can see myself cheering for Louisville or Tennessee. Here's a caveat. I just thought of it. I know some people who are Kentucky fans, but their kid went to play for Louisville. If they, we've talked about this.
Starting point is 00:38:43 Like if Josiah was playing for Louisville football, you are allowed to cheer for Louisville football. I give you permission. But then when the season is over. When the career's over. Yep. It's over. And you can't cheer for another sport. You can't go cheer for their son.
Starting point is 00:38:58 You can cheer for the team. Your son is on. That's it. That's the one free pass you get. There's always an exception. That's it right there. Do you agree with that? Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:39:07 I mean, you would almost have to, right? You got to cheer for your kid. Yeah. I mean, imagine you didn't cheer for your kid. You go to the game and you lose, son. Actually, I might do that, you know. It sounds like something I would do. If anybody was going to do it, I could actually see you do it.
Starting point is 00:39:20 We'll take a break. We are here at the RRB's 250th birthday. Final segment before the weekend. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Starting point is 00:40:29 This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to. who wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at?
Starting point is 00:40:48 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Why is everyone obsessed with romance right now? Like, everyone. Your coworker who, quote, unquote, doesn't read is reading romance. Your mom, book talk, the entire internet. I'm Sondjana Basker. I'm Tyler McCall. And this is Radio 831, a romance podcast. The books, the tropes, the adaptations, the drama, the
Starting point is 00:41:22 discourse. And what all of it says about how we actually love, yearn, and obsess. We're going to Weathering Heights, which, for the record, is not a romance novel. And yet it has haunted the romance genre for 200 years. We're getting into dark romance, age gaps, certain Russian hockey players, and sentient objects, in love, which is a thing. That's the kind of conversation we're having every episode. Listen to the Radio 831 podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you eat if you had to start over? Real simple, poor man's, poor woman's food. Black beans, chicken, rice, plantains. That's all.
Starting point is 00:42:09 That's poor people's food, man. But being Nigeria, and that's, come on, a go-to. On the podcast Eating While Broke, I sit down with celebrities, entrepreneurs, and creators as they revisit the meals they once relied on and the moments that shaped their journey. Named Best Food Podcasts at the 2006 IHeart Podcast Awards. This show is all about real conversations on money, growth, and what it really takes to make it.
Starting point is 00:42:33 It was times where me and Lex were, like, definitely getting into it. Because we're not making any money. Like, I need to start making me. money. Like, why are we doing this? But I don't know. I think we just always knew that we had something really good. And eventually people were going to catch on. And so we just thugged it out. The full season is available to binge. Right now, listen to Eating Wall Broke from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. Final segment, Kentucky Sports Radio here live. Remember the U.S. Army Recruiting
Starting point is 00:43:05 station is at 112 Mount Tabor Road in Lexington. see Sergeant Adams and all of his folks and learn about your potential future with the U.S. Armed Forces. No-C-Linda Farms. If you have a Father's Day gift, it's Sunday, so you have to move quickly. But Noce-Linda Farms, N-O-C-H-E-LindaFarms.com, steak delivered to your door. It's better than anything you'll get at any restaurant in Lexington. They, and in particular, Steve Grissom, go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer care. Order a Father's Day special box.
Starting point is 00:43:37 You could pick it up today. or tomorrow for Father's Day or, you know, you can give a late present. It's okay. Nochaylinda Farms.com right here just outside of Lexington. They'll accommodate you. They'll throw in some bacon beef for you to sample. That's good. That sounds good.
Starting point is 00:43:52 From field to fork, nochaylinda Farms.com, N-O-C-H-E-Linda Farms.com. You know, we say facts are optional here. I don't get everything right. I said PRP hadn't won anything in a while. They did win the state title last year. But besides that, They don't win anything a lot. I am going to go this weekend, though, out next to PRP,
Starting point is 00:44:15 I've been told, is like a place with the best sandwiches in Lexington or in Louisville. Gorilla Bob's. Guerrilla Bob. Is it good? Marcia says, yes. Is that good? I'm going there. Get the Cuban at Gorilla Bob's.
Starting point is 00:44:30 All right, so I'm going to try. I don't know. I'm not giving my endorsement. I've never been. But I had two different people this weekend say, Matt, when you go Louisville, Gorilla Bob, so I'm going to try Carrillo. You've been there? I've never been there before.
Starting point is 00:44:43 But it sounds good. If Marsha likes it, I'm sure I would like it too. So let me ask you, now that you know that PRP just won last year, does that change who you want to win this year? No, I always pick a public school over a private school. I'm always going to pick PRP over. But also, I never get to that part of town. Like, you've got to want to go out there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:00 You know what I mean? Like, it's way out there. And so I will, maybe I'll eat, well, the game's in Lexington. I guess I won't go out there. But I will at least go to Gorbohy. The fourth baseball thing we missed was McCracken County. McCracken County. And the softball is actually playing right now.
Starting point is 00:45:13 Henderson County's leading Scott County, 8 to 2. Look at you. Just a little update, live update. How are you getting these on your phone? Yeah. We can save $10,000 at KS Bar and take down that tracker and just have Ryan update us, you know. Henderson County's ahead.
Starting point is 00:45:28 8 to the 2. That's exactly right. Who's next? Ben is up next. Ben, go ahead, Ben. Hey, what's up, guys? How are y'all today? Good.
Starting point is 00:45:39 What's going on? Hey, man, I just, I really thought that video of Jasper Johnson that I saw online was really funny of him juggling three basketballs. And I was just wondering which one of you guys would learn to juggle the quickest. I can't juggle. I don't need to learn. I can't juggle basketballs, but I can juggle tennis balls. You've seen me do it.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Well, that was that one. I'm not, I mean, I'm not like great, but I can do it. But basketballs, I don't. I guess I could learn. If you could learn tennis balls, you can learn. But have you seen that video? Jasper Johnson, he's like, br-br-br-br-br-br-th. I want to see you juggle.
Starting point is 00:46:14 I'm going to go get these three chocolate-chip cookies and let you juggle those. Yeah, I'm still not. They have to, everything has to be the same. Like, it needs to be in order for me to do it. I'll juggle these knives here. My money's on Drew. My money's on Drew. Drew could do it.
Starting point is 00:46:27 What do you mean your money's on Drew? Just hang up on Ben. Who's next? I actually can't joke. Who's not even here. Money's on Drew. He's in New York. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:46:34 Mack is up next. Mack, go ahead, Mac. Hey there, yeah, just comment there. I am a Kentucky fan, but I pull for all the Kentucky schools where there's football, baseball, basketball when they're playing. But my questions are in college basketball, when are they going to go to six fouls? And when they're going to go to four quarters?
Starting point is 00:47:00 Four quarters, maybe this year. Certainly four quarters is going to have. happen. If it doesn't happen this year, it'll happen the next year. But it's going to happen. I wouldn't be shocked if it happens this year. Six fouls, I think, is unlikely, especially when they go to four quarters. As far as cheering for Louisville, all I can say, sir, is you should be ashamed. That's all I can say. But for the rest of the teams in Kentucky, I'm with you. I cheer for Murray, Moorhead, Eastern, Western, most of the time. All of my, I can't, I can't cheer for a little. Well, that's okay.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Appreciate the call. I'll even cheer for Bellarmine. Like, you know, it's in Louisville. I'll cheer for Bellarmine, Spalding, Trancy. I'll even cheer for Center, but can't cheer for Louisville. I guess we always have that debate. Louisville and Cincinnati. Louisville and Tennessee. Louisville and Tennessee or Louisville versus Duke.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Pins on the team. It depends on the team. Like, it depends on do I, like when Kenny Payne, I think one year Kenny Payne may be played against Tennessee. And I cheered for Kenny Payne because Tennessee was good and Louisville was terrible. So I didn't want Tennessee to win. It depends on the circumstances when those two play. I don't know, though.
Starting point is 00:48:09 Man, Tennessee and Louisville, can you just hope that nobody wins? No, no, in general, I would hope all teams would end up going to Mars. Who's next? Adam is up next. Adam, go ahead, Adam. Hey, guys, I just want to say, happy birthday of United States Army. So, probably what you all do every day for us and grateful that you all do it. But, Matt, I just want to ask a question.
Starting point is 00:48:32 Paul Cogan is supposed to try to bail out of Hooter. And since you've had your, like, I guess, your toes in both the restaurant business and the wrestling business, I would just want to see what your take was on that. And I appreciate you letting me be on. I haven't had my toes in the Hooters business. I think that's a little bit. The restaurant is a little bit different than the, you know, I appreciate the call. The restaurant, I would say I've been involved with law and a lot of different. businesses, obviously with media,
Starting point is 00:49:08 own some real estate. The two hardest businesses I've ever been in to make money are restaurants and wrestling. So if you're telling me you're trying to combine the two, good luck. Mr. Pectacular bringing you a burger out on skates. Good luck, man. Those are the
Starting point is 00:49:24 two hardest things to make money on. You know, I think the problem for Hooters is like there's so many other options now. When I was a kid, if you wanted wings, like that was the one place. And now you got local places like KAS bar you got people who like just have little holes in the wall where they only do wings you got wing stop i think so i think that the uh those two days i think it's gonna be hard but uh and plus you know well we don't have to go to detail but i think hooters makes it tough now two people have more options shannon even in that world than they used to so i just think it's hard that's the one thing that's holding me back from investing in cheechees you know i could be a part owner of cheechees but i'm afraid you know elno paul's out there it might end up being better than cheechees i would love i think you I would love for you to just go all in on changes.
Starting point is 00:50:08 I feel like that is your. Doesn't seem very wise. That is your thing. One more real quick. Who's next? Matt is up next. Matt, 30 seconds. Go.
Starting point is 00:50:18 Okay. Hey, guys. Hey, it's another beautiful day to meditate out in the garden in Hyman. Oh, that's right. I just want to wish, Ryan, happy Father's Day weekend. And anybody else on your staff, happy Father's Day. And Shannon, your band is all. I looked them up.
Starting point is 00:50:37 Thank you. They're great. They're phenomenal. And God for Gigi. It's very nice of you. Thank you for your call, by the way. I've been referencing meditating in the garden ever since then, and I appreciate it. A couple things.
Starting point is 00:50:48 First of all, happy Father's Day to Larry. 88 years old. I hope to see him Sunday or Monday. Happy Father's Day, nobody nicer in the world than Larry Blondale. Happy 250th birthday to the United States Army for having us out here. Everybody, enjoy. it. Say a thank you to an Army person if you see them over the course of the next weekend. And guys, you too, Ryan, have a happy Father's Day as well.
Starting point is 00:51:17 We all have great fathers, so happy Father's Day to all of our dads. And I hope to get to see him, well, I'm going to see him next weekend. I don't know if I'm going to get to see him this weekend or not. Well, I'm supposed to go to a pontoon boat with my kids for Father's Day. But it's going to storm. If it storms, then I think I'm going to go to Indiana. All right, we're good. Glad to see your father come second to the storm.
Starting point is 00:51:33 Thank you all very much for, for, for, coming out here and seeing us. And lastly, go Murray State. Let's go get a win this weekend. In the College World Series. We will see you later. Happy Father's Day to you, too. Rick, this is Big Kentucky Sports Radio here live in Lexington.
