Call 859-271 joke or visit ComedyoffBroadway.com. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Tuesday, June the 17th. I am Matt Jones here off Lees Town Road on Town Center Drive at the Glen Eye Center, right here in Lexington, Kentucky. You can give a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-2802287.
Starting point is 00:02:54 A-Vision Autoglass Text Machine is 772-75254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith-Law, If you call T.J. He'll make them pay. This is a part of a new initiative this we're doing this summer where we are during the summer going to some businesses. We don't tell people where we are. We just come and we're here. They're like non-crowd shows so that you can, but to help, well, to advertise for businesses around the city and state. And you can call IHeart and learn how to do those.
Starting point is 00:03:22 We're doing our first one here at the Glen Eye Center, a new eyeglasses store slash optometrist. off Lee's town right next to where they're putting them the new, what, First Watch, is that right? First Watch is going in right next door. So the new drags. You know, Drew, you and I lived right across the street from here. Yes. You and I both, I mean, we both lived right across the street. I used to come to this little area, and the only thing here was this Appleby's.
Starting point is 00:03:51 That was it. Was that Appleby's. That's all that was there was Appleby's. We've talked about, I spent a Christmas night at that Applebees once before. And now look at this place. There's all this stuff, including Glenn Eye Center with this wonderful ability to get. I ordered some glasses just minutes ago. This is my old block.
Starting point is 00:04:09 This shopping center is where I famously went to join a gym. And the gym had since become a dominoes. So I got pizza and went home. It's one of my favorite moments in my life. I was dressed to work out. I'd been meeting to join it as one of those 24-hour places for months. Finally got the courage to win and it was a dominoes. So I just still gave them business.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Your priorities just took over. I still wanted to support the address. I actually love that. I love that. You know, I really feel like working out. Nah, I'll just get fat. That's okay. That's a tough change for members of that gym.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Certain gyms, Planet Fitness, they actually offer, like, pizza for everybody, like, the first Monday of the month. I always thought that was kind of strange. You mean? So you go into the gym, like, the first Monday of every month, they would just have pizza laid out for everybody. That is strange. Come eat pizza, and then go work out. Well, they don't want you getting too fit because then you'll cancel your membership. You reach your goals.
Starting point is 00:05:00 You got to keep you chubby. You know what? It's like the American pharmaceutical industry. They got to keep you addicted. They got to keep you addicted to the, hadn't thought about it. Have a slice while you're doing your curls, you know? This is also a famous block for Ryan. Isn't this where you race your son and broke a leg or something?
Starting point is 00:05:17 That's sidewalk right across the parking lot from El Mariachi down the Domino's. He and I raced down the sidewalk. I ended up doing a Pete Rose slide down the sidewalk right in front of the dominoes. You like broke something, didn't you? I've broken. Well, I pulled my groin racing. He does that every time he gets up. Pulls his groin.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Yeah. Well, now you don't have to do any of those things. You can come to the Glen Eye Center. They've got, like, very nice glasses. You got gray band, Gucci, Prada, moo-moo. How about that one? And you can get your eyes checked. And like I said, I just bought some glasses.
Starting point is 00:05:49 What was the kind I got? Costa. Oh, Costa. I thought you were going down to the Moos. You were down in that corner over there where the Mo-moos are. Where is it Mimi. It's Mew, mu,
Starting point is 00:06:01 Mew, okay. Well, yeah, the eye should mean something. It wouldn't be moo-moo. They have some glasses that... Mew, mu-mue, mu. They have some glasses that help you hear, too. Well, those are kind of cool. Yeah, so are they like...
Starting point is 00:06:14 Like hearing aids. They have hearing aid glasses. Well, I put on the meta glasses. Yes. And I'm scared of them. Because they are... Meta is in like Facebook, right? You put them on and you can ask them questions,
Starting point is 00:06:27 and they answer it. So, like, I was looking at Mario and Drew and I said, Meta, what am I looking at? And these are the glasses. Yeah. And they told me you're looking at people having a conversation. They didn't tell me Mario, but I would assume at some point they will be able to tell me Mario.
Starting point is 00:06:43 So you needed the glasses to tell you that that's two people having a conversation. You couldn't figure it out for yourself. Well, no, but, I mean, think about when it could work, though. Yeah, yeah. Like you walk upon something. Like, let's say your Viz team, I don't know, Barcelona, right? And you walk upon a bill. building, you don't want to sit there and Google where I am, you could go meta.
Starting point is 00:07:01 What am I looking at here? And they would say. Oh, that's cool. Yeah. You could see how that was cool, wouldn't it? Yeah. I don't know. When I asked that question, they said you're looking at people having a conversation in and I
Starting point is 00:07:11 doctor's office. Yeah, they did say that, in an eye out of his office. So that's kind of, and apparently you can listen. Again, this is technology probably the rest of the world knows, but it doesn't take much to blow my mind. Me neither. You know, it really doesn't take much to blow my mind. You can listen to the show in your glasses, and nobody around you knows.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Yeah. Think about that. You can walk down the street, listen to KSR. Nobody knows. They also record video and nobody knows, which could be a dangerous game. Oh, really? Yeah, I have a friend that has a pair of those. He's constantly recording whatever he's doing.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Now, I don't know about that. That seems a little... I think one of the OVW guys had that on the other night, because he was in a ladder match and you could see it from his perspective, And he went off and did a flip. Oh, is that what referees are doing now, too? I did see it. Yeah, like the glasses on it.
Starting point is 00:08:01 You can see it from a first point of view. That's really interesting. Yeah. So anyway, this is all just to say. Technology is crazy these days, kids. Can you believe it? They have streaming, and the movies are in your team. I just think it was a big deal when your lenses would tint get dark when you go outside.
Starting point is 00:08:23 My grandpa had those. Yeah. You thought that was cool. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. You go outside. Chad North Fleet had that in 1997 at Transylvania. That was the peak of technology. Cool stuff.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Now my glasses are talking to me. Yeah. Anyway, you get Glen Ey Center here off East Town Road. What is this complex call? Town Center. Town Center. Town with a knee, right? Town with a knee.
Starting point is 00:08:49 That's how you know it's fancy. Town with an E, Town Center Drive. All right. So I want to start. with this. I made the Louisville fans mad yesterday, right? Well, that's good for you. Congratulations. They got very mad at what I thought was a very simple and non-controversial opinion. And I'll just let's say, I'm not going to call them out because I don't want you getting mad at them, because I know you Louisville people are listening. Almost all of the major Louisville shows, their host wrote me and said I was
Starting point is 00:09:20 right about this. Okay. So, so I don't know why this makes everybody, but, but, but, But I just make these Louisville people mad. Again, thank you for listening. But I said, you know, that Louisville and Lexington were different cities. Remember, I said Vince would not be as popular in Louisville as he is in Lexington. And I was explaining the differences and blah, blah, blah. And then somebody wrote me, Drew, and I thought they explained this perfectly. Okay?
Starting point is 00:09:46 That's rare. Very rarely in the comment, do people explain things perfectly? I thought this was explained perfectly. In the state of Kentucky, the analogy between Kentucky and Louisville, we like to say it's Big Brother Little Brother. They like to say their Big Brother, which is the stupidest convention because there's no way there. But Big Brother and Little Brother, I do think downplays a little bit Louisville's success.
Starting point is 00:10:17 Right there, the seventh or eighth best college basketball program of all time, depending on your metrics. They'd be Big Brother in most states. Exactly. I mean, the top basketball programs are Tier 1, Kentucky, North Carolina, UCLA, Tier 2, by itself, Duke. Then I think Kansas is next. And then, after that, depending on what you value, you could say, Yukon, you could say Louisville,
Starting point is 00:10:40 you could say Indiana. Everybody agree with that? Is that fair? Everybody agrees with that. Okay. But in the state of Kentucky, I've struggled, so what is the analogy between Kentucky Louisville? And somebody hit it, Drew. see if you agree with this.
Starting point is 00:10:55 We are the Lakers, they are the Clippers. Okay. What are you laughing at? Mario, like that. That's not crazy. No, I can see it. I can see it.
Starting point is 00:11:06 They are the Clippers. Okay. They are the modern clippers, not the clippers that were terrible all the time, but the modern clippers. And what that means is this. In any given year, the Lakers and the Clippers,
Starting point is 00:11:20 the Clippers might be better. Yes. In a given year. The Clippers have Kauai. They had Lamar, right? They can sometimes have the better thing. But in the state of Kentucky, we are the Lakers because A, we've won more. But B, the Lakers losing is a bigger story in L.A. than the Clippers win.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Kentucky is the brand. Kind of like the Lakers are the brand. The Lakers are the brand. You can put us on television and everybody's going to watch it. You could put the Clippers on television and they'll watch it, Drew, if they're good. If they have Blake Griffin and Chris Faw. But if they're bad, and then Pat Kelsey has to walk down the street begging people to come to the games. Do you have to beg people to come to Lakers games?
Starting point is 00:12:05 Never. No. No. But do you sometimes have to beg people to go to Clippers game? Yes. Right. Now, are the Clippers games sometimes more fun? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Do the Clippers have the nicer arena now? Yes, if you've been to it. Do they have their own stars sometimes? But the Lakers are the team. In Kentucky, we are the Lakers. We, you know, as Marcus Teague would say, we as Kentucky, we give no blanks. And I think that's the analogy I've been looking for, and it's the analogy Vince will realize that in the state of Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:12:47 yeah, if you win, there'll be not. nice, they'll be excited. But Kentucky will always be Kentucky, just like the Lakers, will always be the Lakers. I like that. Because, you know, when I think of Los Angeles and I think of basketball, I think of the Lakers. Sometimes I forget the Clippers even exists. Exactly. And I think when the Clippers are good, people will go.
Starting point is 00:13:06 And the Clippers can beat the Lakers in any given year. Sure can. Yeah. But they're still the Clippers. I love that analogy. That kind of explains it. You know, the high profile, Showtime, Lakers, that's Kentucky. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Knicks are us. They're the Nets, right? Yep. They might be better in a given year. They can go get Durant, Kyrie, et cetera. But the Knicks can have Jeremy Lynn and people are still excited about it. That's the analogy. And like I said, I think that's what Vince is going to figure.
Starting point is 00:13:36 I wasn't sure where you're going to go with this. But like everyone else, I agree, Kentucky's the show. It's the hot ticket. You know, you've got the, I guess the venue makes a good point. A few things here and there. Little will have a good season. but overall it's all about Kentucky, so I like this comparison. Well, I do get annoyed when Louisville fans listen and then get my quotes wrong.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Somebody wrote yesterday, Matt Jones goes on the radio and says, no one in Louisville cares about sports. Not what I said. No, you said. But I said half the people don't care about sports. And Shannon, that's it. You live there. You know that's right.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I could walk down Bardstown Road. None of those people care about sports. None of those people care about sports. That's why I live there. Maybe skateboarding if you count that as a sport. Yeah, or hacky sack. Yeah, you know, I guess that could be. If weed smoking is a sport, it's the number one location in the world.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Contact buzz just from walking around down there. But it is not, and that's the point. Yeah, I like that analysis. Yeah, and you're right. In Louisville, you got half the people that don't care. Then the other half, or maybe not half, but let's say 40% of the other people are Kentucky fans. Yes. The other thing that happens, too, a lot of times, we'll say something they say you said it.
Starting point is 00:14:47 That's my favorite thing. I hate that. Ryan will say something to say Matt Jones. I'm amazed yesterday that people were like, Matt Jones almost fell for a scam. Matt's got a time share. Matt's got a time share. Matt's got a kid who signed his name to make him go to prison.
Starting point is 00:15:03 I mean, it is, it's like if I were the three of you all, I would take it more personally. It's like you all don't have. We have no accountability. I collectively get in trouble for whatever you say. They can say anything. But nobody goes Matt Jones is a rock star like Shannon. I only get the negatives of what you all do and none of the positive.
Starting point is 00:15:21 That's what happens when you're the star of the show. Well, you are the star. 859-280-2287. We are at the Green Eye Center. Jason Glenn Eye Center. Jason Glenn was previously located in the Lexington Green for 10 years. He is now here. One-stop shop, eye exams, glasses, contacts, and medical eye care.
Starting point is 00:15:40 Plus, you can try on the cool meta-glasses. Talk to it. Have a conversation, maybe even a friend on your face. We will take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,
Starting point is 00:15:56 and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions,
Starting point is 00:16:12 the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never made. the highlight reel. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:16:41 What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. stuff like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:17:01 Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming.
Starting point is 00:17:26 Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip. I'm Tad Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back.
Starting point is 00:17:49 The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. and the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcast presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne. Yeah. This is my best friend, Janet. Hey. And we have been joined at the Hipsons High School.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Absolutely. now a redacted amount of years later. We're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips, wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drink. Sidebar.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white color or something here? Just hit it. What are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album?
Starting point is 00:18:54 Oh, I would. Come on. Could you imagine? I would buy it. Cuts through the defense like a hot night. through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict.
Starting point is 00:19:06 You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You're lucky I'm not a killer. I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on. Oh. Listen to soccer moms on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to mycadena.
Starting point is 00:19:27 It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859280-2287. Text machine, 772-745-254. People trying to say to me that they also think the Yankees and Mets are the analogy. I don't think so. The Mets, Yankees are the biggest thing in New York, but Mets are huge, too. I mean, the Mets, there's a huge part of New York City that also is, you know, Queens is pretty much all the Mets, decent part of Brooklyn's the Mets. I think the Mets are almost too big for my analogy.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Lakers Clippers, I like more. Or maybe Dodgers Angels. Cubs White Sox. It's not give Louisville too much credit. Yeah, Cubs White Sox, because, you know, the south side of town likes the white socks, but the Cubs are still the bigger thing. Right, yeah. Everybody still, you know, loves the Cubs, Wrigley-filled.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Bell County, Middlesbrough. Well, except we're the Kentucky. Middlesbrough is the Kentucky Park. We are here at Glen Eye Center. Part of the reason I like going to places like this, I like these summer things where we go to places with no crowds, we get to learn about the about the about where we are so I was asking about eye exams and he said they still they still blow the air in your eye yeah oh I hate it that's my least it's honestly partially
Starting point is 00:20:41 why I tend to wear old prescriptions I don't want to go get the air blown it's one of those things you know it's coming they're telling you it's about to happen and you still jump back you know I hate it and it's and he said now they have a way where they can touch your eye oh I'm fine with that I don't know I touch my eye all the time just for pleasure. But not me, just to put my contacts in. So that doesn't really bother me. You get freaked out when I put my contact. I can't even watch videos or other people touch their own eyes.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I can't. It's something about it just freaks me out. I like the air blower. You look down the desert at the hot air balloon and you just stare at it. My eyes are watering right now just thinking about it. Oh, it's a beautiful scene that looks like a great day wherever that was. We also got a question here. What's your name that asked me the question?
Starting point is 00:21:24 Stacey. Stacey asked me, and you know, I'm not making fun of this, Stacey, because you're not the first person that's asked me this in the last few days. Probably been asked this 10 or 12 times. You know, there were the pictures of all the players, the U.K. players, like jumping up in the air, right, and doing their thing. And some of them had on what would best be described, Drew, as a sports braw looking thing. That's exactly what it looks like.
Starting point is 00:21:49 And so people ask me, what is that? Sports bra. But it's men wearing them. Explain to people what that is, because I've gotten asked that a lot. Now, they've had them. UK basketball's had them for a couple years. You've seen more guys working out this summer shirtless, and it looks like they're just out there in a sports bra.
Starting point is 00:22:07 But as I understand it, it reads like everything imaginable. Not just heart rate, but they know how fast you're running, and if any given drill you slow down, that shows up on the chart. So it's measuring things. Your constant movement. Heart rate, I'm sure, is one of the biggest parts, but it knows your speed. Numbers I can't even think of to list here.
Starting point is 00:22:25 It can read about anything. Yeah, so yesterday I got to do a kind of cool thing. My mom had to take her brother, went with her brother to the doctor. So I was in charge of Larry for the day. Nice. You know, you've had a wife and kids. Yeah. You all had siblings.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You know, well, Drew didn't. Yeah, you did. You had a sister. So, like, I'm not used to taking care of another person. So I'm, like, taking my 88-year-old father around. And I was like, what am I going to do with him during this time? We need to do something fun. So I took him to Memorial Colise.
Starting point is 00:23:03 Good. I thought he wasn't been in there since 1973. I should have taken you with me, Mario, because it was cool. Like Memorial Coliseum has, you know, all these pictures of all the old teens. Yes. And he was able to walk around. And he was telling me stories about, like, meeting Alex Groza as a, kid and stuff and that was really neat to do and then UK was nice enough you know they're redoing
Starting point is 00:23:26 that yes you know oh yes so I thought this was interesting they're basically taking away the cal era everything up there is NBA right they're kind of taking that out and they're making it pretty much Kentucky history now there was some of that there before but they're basically making it to where they're going to highlight the history of Kentucky basketball in there and it not just be kind of the last 15 years. Even though I think that's a great idea, it's also symbolic, Ryan, in some ways of the change, just a mentality in the last year. And I think that goes along with Pope went through the program.
Starting point is 00:24:09 He wants to encompass everybody, not just the Cal era of people like Cal did. So that big mural you were talking about to all those players, it needs to have Jamal Mashburn, Rex Chapman. We went into the practice. Debmore is very nice to take my dad so he could see where they practice. And I noticed all that stuff's gone. Yeah. Like all those NBA cards all around, like all the this is like all of that is gone, Drew,
Starting point is 00:24:34 I think soon to be replaced by just UK SEC championships, NCAA, whatever it is they're going to put up there. But the pinini cards of every UK player in the NBA gone. I think those pinnini cards came down in a hurry. like maybe days on the walls right now. And it was cool at the time when Cal was promoting the message, but there's the big NBA mural. It's fascinating.
Starting point is 00:24:56 It has like 24 Kentucky players on it, but they might even be in their NBA jerseys. They are. Now that we've closed the book on that era, I like that Pope is expanding everything. That was nice to show a five-star recruit. Like, look, you want to be one of those guys, but the times have changed.
Starting point is 00:25:09 I like it's getting back to the Kentucky. As I understand it, what they're going to do is they're going to highlight in various sections. Here is what we've done in the final four. here is our NCAA tournament success. Here is our SEC tournament success. Here are our guys who've had NBA careers. Here are our guys who've won Olympic gold medals. Remember, Kentucky was the U.S. Olympic team one year in 1948.
Starting point is 00:25:31 We were the whole Olympic team. And I think that's going to be really cool. The other thing, and this is more, I think the general public should know this. Many of you know this, but many of you may not. I had never seen it. You know, Memorial Coliseum is named. It's a war memorial for people who died initially in World War II, but they have now extended it to Vietnam and maybe Korea, I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:25:59 They have now built in front of it, these pillars that are up. They just went up this spring. And it has the name of every Kentuckian who passed away in World War II, Vietnam, and maybe Korea, I think it does. I know it has World War II in Vietnam because I saw the names on there. And it is arranged by county. So you can go to your county that you live in and see every veteran that passed in that war. I went with Larry to Bell County.
Starting point is 00:26:31 It was 167 people in Bell County. And it was all you could see last names that for me in Bell County, I knew these names like Knuckles, Rost and et cetera. But you could do that for any county. And it is in order. and they are pillars up in there. And then if you go inside, there's an electronic touch screen that has the same names and you can touch. And some of them, there are stories about them. And some of them, there are interviews with their families or stories about what they did.
Starting point is 00:27:01 They really have put the memorial in Memorial Coliseum. And I highly recommend, obviously, you have a family member who passed, but even if you haven't, it's actually a really powerful thing to stand outside and walk and see every Kentucky that passed during these wars. Big shout out to the folks that UK that did that. I think it was not just UK athletics, but some UK Historical Society people. One of the guys that did it just happened to be standing there when we were there and explained some of it to me. Ryan, I hadn't seen it and really focused on it, and I thought it was great.
Starting point is 00:27:37 You know, they used to have all the names listed when you walked the concourse from Moro Colise in, but they took them all down. So I think there was a fear they were going to miss that. I'm so glad they put those pillars out in front because it's really kind of impressive now when you walk up to it. It's very impressive. And you can see, like, they have highlighted this is Bell County. This is Brethick County. This is Carter County, whatever.
Starting point is 00:27:55 And, you know, I don't know that everybody knows that's there, Drew, but now. It's great they made that a priority when they had to redo Memorial. Like Ryan said, they lost some parts that have been there for a long time honoring those people. So it's nice as they kept them in the rebuild. And you also see things when I went that I didn't expect. like Ricky Lumpkin, former UK football player, giving a tour to the UK school for the deaf at the basketball facility. Really?
Starting point is 00:28:19 You go like, it's like a mad lib. Who had any idea that would all be there, but there it was. You know, Adolf Rupp's office is still tucked away back in the corner, but you can't get to it anymore. You can't get to it anymore, but that is neat. So anyway, we will take your calls. I just wouldn't let people know about that. We are here at the Glitton Eye Center in Town Center Drive.
Starting point is 00:28:37 This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Glenn Eye Center here. off Town Center Drive, Leastown Road. If you come in and you mention KSR, you can get a free optomap and retinal exam. It's pretty good. Just mention KSR. When you call for an appointment or when you come in, just mention KSR. It is the Green Eye Center.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Glenn. Why do I keep saying green? Because they were in Lexington Green. Glenn Eye Center. I've already ordered glasses today. He did. The Moos. They're not Moos.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Cosmos. Coasters. We'll get it right. By the end of the show. Either way, they're going to be good. You saw it. It took me one minute to pick them out. So there's a big selection here.
Starting point is 00:29:22 All right, who's up first, Rick? Got Steve up first. Steve, go ahead, Steve. Yeah. We don't want that. We don't want that. We're unique in Kentucky on this. We are like the last state in the country
Starting point is 00:30:21 that throws everybody together. And we like that. One point I want to make, one point I want to make is, I understand. And I like the Michigan. That's nice. But here, we like, I like the fact that in everything but football, we put everybody together.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Yes, the big schools are going to win more. But we don't in college have multiple NCAA tournaments in Division I. Now, you could say, well, they have a Division I, two, and three. But that's mostly about whether or not you give scholarships. It really has nothing to do with the thing. I like that. Yes, Trinity won baseball this year. Those kind of schools will win more often than not.
Starting point is 00:31:17 But sometimes there are other schools that win. And that's exciting. We just had Lyon County v. Harlan County in basketball two years ago. That's exactly right. It was two years ago. I'm okay if they had the classes in football. But for basketball and baseball, baseball, keep it the way. It's all, you know, you get those little schools, give them a chance to make it the bigger run.
Starting point is 00:31:35 And football, the teams are so big. I think you have to do it. In basketball, you need to find five kids in your school. Yep. Honestly. Five kids in your school. And any school in theory can do that. I like the way that it is, too. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:31:47 And I didn't think that our first call would be about Michigan High School, football. Yeah, I mean, details about how the system works. I didn't, I didn't. But you never know. You never know what you're going to get here at the Glit Eye Center. Who's next? Adam is next. Adam.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Go ahead, Adam. What's going on Matt? Eric Crawford has a report this morning. I need your thoughts. We're going to name a road after. Tom Jurich. Unbelievable. Yeah, I mean, I got to be careful because this is my man, Craig Greenberg's decision.
Starting point is 00:32:18 I appreciate the call. You know, I mean, look, I saw. So they're bringing Tom Jurich back and having, like, Tom Jurich Day or something. Having a parade? They're not. No. Okay. And they're going to name or road.
Starting point is 00:32:35 I mean, did he do amazing things at Louisville? Yes. Did he oversee the destruction of the entire athletics department and in some ways the economic structure of the university? Yes. So, I mean, it's their road. They can do what they want with it. I'm, you know, I'm surprised because a lot of the people, like, they all know what Tom did. Is it just not matter anymore?
Starting point is 00:33:02 No, they're going to put the banner back up soon. Yeah, that actually bothers me less than honoring Tom Church. some ways. But I get it. He was very successful, but, you know, if it was, if he was wrong enough to fire him and get rid of him, and they just waited till the statute of limitations was out on all his claims and now they're giving a road after. Yeah, not surprised, though. Will you, will you be able to listen to KSR on that road? Will Tom have rights to people's radios over there? Well, so I'm not outraged by it, but I am a little surprised, Ryan, when you consider, I mean, just think of all the scandals of the of i mean i could sit here and list for you 10 scandals
Starting point is 00:33:46 one of which would have been outrageous at any university and 10 of which occurred in like four years at lull what if about on the light poles down jerich way they they have a little banner for each scandal like sometimes they should towns like they're proud of people graduates they could put a little scandal banner on each light postitutes for recruits like that's one to say that people just skip over that one as if it's if it's if it's nothing maybe the road they're going to name him is a a back alley off a side street kind of be appropriate no it's on campus i think i think they're putting it like i think they're putting it like right in the middle of the what was the only place that would fire somebody then give them a road named after them
Starting point is 00:34:26 what's the only place where they would fire you yeah go i have to fire you because you are outrageous and ruining the reputation of the university but by the way we're also going to name a road after you that will last in perpetuity. I can't wait for Billy Gillespie Street, Joker Phillips Road. We had Halmummy Pass for a little bit. Yeah. They took it down. That's a perfect example.
Starting point is 00:34:47 We had Hal Mummy pass. What did he do? Claude Bassett gave people $100 to go get fish? I mean, like, when we took the road down. Took it down. Who's next? Brandi is next. I don't know if it was fish or not.
Starting point is 00:35:03 I just feel like it. Sounded for a better story. Brandy, go ahead, Brandy. I'm on say Matt Jones Boulevard. We need a Matt Jones Boulevard. I have a sign. I think that's plenty. I got a sign.
Starting point is 00:35:16 That was all I needed in Middlesbrough. But go ahead. Now, I got a couple three things. I hadn't called in a while, but I heard the Vince Marrow thing with the piano music yesterday. And that's just sad. And I was always taught, you know, actions not words. So I think you showed his sections, not his word. And also, you were talking yesterday about people that don't get caught for the crimes that they do.
Starting point is 00:35:45 You need to watch the mortician on Max. Okay, so I've heard about this. I haven't watched it. Have any of you watched it? I've seen a little bit of it. There's apparently, it's called the Mortician. Appreciate the call. It's on.
Starting point is 00:35:57 It's on Max. I believe it's about a Los Angeles funeral home where bad things occur. But apparently there's a twist ending that is supposed to be one of the best twist endings of all time. You may remember that show The Jinks. Or not The Jinks. It was it the Jinks. And it had like a crazy ending, which I won't. I mean, it's been 15 years.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Oh, Mike's situation. Yeah, where he basically was like, I did it, right? He forgot he didn't know he had his mic on. He had his mic on, didn't realize. By the way, I did it. Oh, wait. Is this on the record? This is supposed to have the best twist ending run since.
Starting point is 00:36:34 the jinks. It's called the mortician. I think it just came out. On Max, I have not seen it, but I've heard it is, that seems like your kind of thing. Oh, yeah. I would definitely watch that. But I feel like we could look up what the twist is. I mean, I feel like it would play out in the news, right? It's a real story, right? But why would you want to know? You could do that about anything. I mean, you could do, yeah, I mean, you could ask those glasses over there what the twist is. The point is, I mean, do you just want to go to movies? I mean, I feel like, you know, every time a movie comes out, Shannon just Googles, how does it end?
Starting point is 00:37:02 But if you know, well, I don't need to go. if you know how it plays out like the there's a one on the did you watch titanic yeah then you knew the ending yeah but i wanted to see how it played out i wanted to see everybody sink he's a big k wensland yeah i am a big kate winsler i do love her what was the the comedian had that really good bit about he doesn't know anything about history and he watched Tyler hero that was not the one no he watched pearl harbor and he was like i was a shocked as anybody. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcast presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne.

Now a redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hip. WIDER. This is a podcast we're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey
Starting point is 00:40:10 With all the snacks and drinks sidebar why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? They had a bogo well then you got it Do you want a white collar something here? Just take it. What are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album? Oh I would come on Could you put it? I would buy it. Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not a drug addict. You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You are. I'm lucky I'm not a killer. I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Oh. Listen to soccer moms on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. How Hard Can It Be with the Adamani Arriva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that?
Starting point is 00:41:23 I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How high can it? getting naked at 50 with the new guy. That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting.
Starting point is 00:41:39 They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura Podcast Network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:42:05 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. here at the Glen Eye Center. You could call get an exam, buy new glasses, get checked out. 859-31780-88. Mention KSR, you get a free opto-map and a retinal exam. Got to be very clear to say retinal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:28 We'll leave that to you. I don't think they give the other one. You do have to pay. You got to pay you for that. and leave a good tip is that you do tip the ones who do that for you? I mean I feel like
Starting point is 00:42:44 859-2802287 couple of the lines we're a little off I'm sorry Stacy we're just a little you get us out in public and then you give us what was they said
Starting point is 00:42:52 watermelon over there like things start to becon pie I wanted to ask you Shannon about your Vandy guys yeah did you see your guy Diego Pavia
Starting point is 00:43:01 no what's he doing Diego Pavia said starting this year Vandy would quote run the state of Tennessee from now. Oh, I love it. I love that cockiness. Screw Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Yeah, I hope he does. I hope he does. You don't think that's a little poking the bear. He's on his way out. What does he care, right? He's playing this year. Right, I know, but he's not going to be around for next year if they end up, you know, getting their butt kicked by Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:43:27 But I love that. Yeah. Do you like that? I love it. And they just beat Alabama last year. Why not? But they didn't beat Tennessee. Well, they're going to beat them this year.
Starting point is 00:43:36 You told you so. quarterback. He's allowed to talk. He's the best quarterback in Tennessee, including the Titans right now. That's probably true. That's probably very true. Ryan, do you think the saying that they're going to run the state of Tennessee from now on is a good idea? See, I don't know if it's a great idea, but I love it. I love the guy that got that kind of confidence. I know he tore us up, but I kind of like watching him play, man. He did a great things for Vanity last year. Do you think we will, I mean, it's hard to imagine even a semi-success Kentucky season this year without beating them.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Do you think that are we going to beat them? We beat them two years ago at their place. We've lost the last two at home. I don't love having to see him again. That is a game. I don't think you can have a good season unless you just really pull off a big upset, unless you win those swing games like Vandy. Yeah, but I don't think.
Starting point is 00:44:25 Like if you lose to Vandy, it's hard to. There's no way to happen. Unless you knock off Texas or something crazy. But you got to win that Vandy game to have any kind of. of any kind of season that could get you into a bowl game, which a lot of fans need. I mean, I would go as far as to say, if you lose to Vanderbilt, Mark Stoops won't be the coaching the next year. Oh, do you think it comes down to his entire career?
Starting point is 00:44:49 It's because of what I'm saying. It's because of what Drew said, though. What if they pull off? How are you going to have a good year? Well, if you lose to Vandy and beat Texas, but you still only have four wins, I mean, that was just what we did last year. Yes. We beat Ole Miss.
Starting point is 00:45:01 and didn't beat anybody else and we had four wins. So I don't think even beating a Texas is enough if you lose to a Vandy. And I don't see a way you can get to six wins and lose to Vandy. What is the scenario where you win three SEC games and don't beat Vandy? It stinks. That one's in your dreams probably the only way that's possible. It's not going to happen. The thing about Vandy, if they beat Kentucky again,
Starting point is 00:45:31 and that's three of the last four years. They've surpassed you as a football program in the SEC. That's unacceptable. Let's be more clear. If Vandy beat you this year, you are either the worst or next to worst team in the... It's either you or Mississippi State. Yep.
Starting point is 00:45:49 And that is pathetic. Which is that we kind of clawed our way to get in that middle tier. We were in a tier of seventh, eighth. Top metal, what you said? Top metal. We were in a time. There were a couple of years we were arguing, hey, we're knocking. I mean, there was a moment where we had passed Vandy, we had passed Mississippi State,
Starting point is 00:46:11 we had passed Missouri, we had passed Arkansas, South Carolina. We passed South Carolina. And we were sitting there going, hey, Tennessee, Florida, I think we're as good or better than you. And then the next step was your Georgia's, et cetera. And now we're like, well, we might be Fandy. And Diego Pavi is out there talking trash. And he's not even talking trash to Kentucky, Drew. He's talking trash to Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:46:35 Oh, he's looking over the top of us, looking to Tennessee. Yeah, he assumes if there was a Vandy sports radio, which there might be. I think there's a Vandy science radio, but I don't think there's a Vandy sports radio. They would look at the schedule and go, well, we got Kentucky. Sure, right? Wouldn't they do that? Oh, yeah. And so much of stooped success when it was at its best is routinely beating South Carolina, Missouri, and Vandy.
Starting point is 00:46:59 and all three of those programs have gone up another level while Kentucky's gone backwards. They had that anonymous poll with coaches just a few weeks ago where it said Kentucky can't even keep up with Vanderbilt right now in this new era. I mean, just seeing that print said enough about Kentucky football right now that other coaches are covered. A coach said that? Yeah, that was, they did that, you know, the usual summer poll with anonymous coaches.
Starting point is 00:47:21 They said Kentucky is a step behind Vandy in South Carolina right now in the new era. That's very concerning. Yeah. And Ryan, like in the big picture, losing three out of four to Andy would be bad look too. You just depress me. Because there's nothing wrong with that. That's 100% correct. But that shouldn't happen.
Starting point is 00:47:44 No. That's partly why I will not listen to. I've had people involved with UK football privately say to me something like this, Ryan. Well, how do people expect us with a $5 to $7 million? NIL to compete with the $20 million teams. And the reason that argument falls on deaf ears to me is you lost to Vandy. I mean,
Starting point is 00:48:10 if your only losses were to Georgia, Texas, and Alabama, I would hear that argument. But you lost to Vandt. And there's no human world where Vandy spent more on NIL than we did. Is there? No, you lost a Vandy on your home field the last two times they've been there. And then asked for money the Monday after.
Starting point is 00:48:28 Yeah, well, I think Let's not forget about that. That was Missouri. They had lost to Missouri. It was Vanderbilt. Was it? Yeah, they launched the Oh, no, no, you're right. The pony up was after Missouri.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Yeah, but the collective thing was after it was after May. It was two days after losing to Van der. Even Missouri shouldn't be that far ahead of you, and they've been in the playoff conversation last year. They were disappointed not making the playoff last year. I, you can't say to me, I mean, I don't know how you convince donors to give $20 million if you don't be Vanderbilt.
Starting point is 00:49:06 No. Would you? Yeah. No. No. No. I mean, that's part of the thing of this. Now, this may change a little bit in the rev share.
Starting point is 00:49:15 But in the NIL era, I said for a long time, this is a business. And businesses, when things aren't going well, it's hard to get your stock price up and to get investors in. And that's what these sports programs are going to be. You have to perform. Yeah. The last time we beat him, I think Ray Davis had like three or four touchdowns. A Vandy guy. Who's our Ray Davis?
Starting point is 00:49:38 We have a Ray Davis this year that can beat Vandy. They beat Vandy. With their own guy. To the UK's credit, they went out and stole him. Yeah. Yeah. So I do understand why Diego Pavia would say that. I don't know if it's the smartest thing in the world.
Starting point is 00:49:54 Was he asked about that or did it no one to ask? He said it. I think there is a difference. He just called up and said, listen, we're about to run Tennessee. I love it. He doesn't like the confidence. Yeah. One person wrote in and said, Matt, I heard Ryan talking about the scam yesterday.
Starting point is 00:50:09 I'm glad he said it. He is going to end up saving lots of elderly citizens from losing their money. He should take pride in that. Well, I hope so because it was very convincing. I can see how maybe an older person would fall, hook, line, and sinker for that and offer up their credit card information with the phone. So maybe by getting it out there to keep somebody from doing that. Apparently there is a warning that has been put out by the Lexington Police in the last few weeks about your exact state.
Starting point is 00:50:37 I'm telling you, I was convinced for about 10 minutes. Did you not see the warning? No. No. What lessons have we learned from that? Don't answer a private number. Okay, that's a really good start. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:50 But we told you this four to five years ago. You used to brag about having conversations with the same. scammers. Oh, I do. I still do that. Are we going to stop that since clearly they're outsmarting you sometimes? They did outsmart me this time. You're going to go next time. It's not a contest. Because I say this with love, you're going to lose.
Starting point is 00:51:09 They're better at this than you are. Very good at it. They had me convinced. So we're going to stop. I was ready to drive down to the third street. You're going to stop answering the private calls. Well, what if it's Dante? Can you tell Dante to leave a message or text you? I bet he would leave a message.
Starting point is 00:51:26 Okay. There you go. So we're going to stop the... We can't keep losing money because of Dante. Yes. Right? Because it could be Dante on the phone. Yeah, you can't keep giving away your credit guard because this could be Dante.
Starting point is 00:51:38 What if somebody calls up or says to be Dante? Yeah, that's the next one. I'm just going to say there's Dante. I need your... We'll take a break right back here. Glenn Isitter, KSR. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
