Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio here on the Kentucky Department of Highway Safety, KSR Safe Summer Driving Tour around the state. KSR comes to you here in Independence. We will pick our next location to go, probably a Monday, day, so be listening and we'll do a contest to pick it. Never know where we'll end up. The independence came up here so I could go to the Reds game that starts at 1240 and a nice place. Eric, is that right? Eric's, Eric's house and he's got friends here and we, Mario's challenging children to pop a shot contest, so it's been good. And losing, right? Was that a loss for Mario? No, he won right at the end.
Starting point is 00:03:54 He cheated. Cheated right at the end and blocked. All right, so I got some players who played quarterback who played basketball for Kentucky. All right. Ready. First of all, Anthony Epps did play quarterback. I thought he did, but I wasn't for sure about that. Desmond Allison played quarterback. Oh, he's a good one.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Wawa Jones played quarterback. Wawa was a quarterback. Wau was good at every sport. I almost said Wawa, just assuming he played basketball, football, and baseball at UK. So, yeah, he was, uh, Kayson Wallace was apparently a really good high school quarterback. Really? I didn't know that. I don't know that I ever heard that.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Have you? No. Apparently Richard Madison was a quarterback. I know he was a pitcher in baseball. He could throw it 100 miles an hour. So there you go. And he stopped before his senior year of high school, but Kobe Brea started for his high school as a quarterback as a junior.
Starting point is 00:04:41 The Internet also told me Rondo played a little high school quarterback. At Oak Hill? No, before he went to Oak Hill. And did Jasper Johnson play at Woodford? Someone else submitted that. He did. He played a quarterback at Woodford County. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:54 So there you go. More than we thought. All right, got some folks on the phone. I'm going to go to it and just say. second, just a couple quick things first. Drew, the Karen Reed trial while we were doing the Matt Jones show yesterday, which is the name is about to officially change to interrupted by Matt Jones. Drew and I were doing the news with Billy, the Karen Reed verdict. We had just talked about it, and then the verdict came out, not guilty on anything except DUI. I did not follow this trial
Starting point is 00:05:22 at all. I have people in my life who cared too much about it. Do you, did you, did you, did you, care and did what you think of the verse? Well, I enjoyed yesterday, Billy and I predicted guilty, maybe three minutes before the news broke that you were not guilty. They both said guilty, and then we got the breaking news right after. It could have been under two minutes how quickly we were wrong. I did not really follow it. My guilty thing was a complete guess for show purposes.
Starting point is 00:05:46 I have seen a few, like, updates on TV. I won't lie a couple nights ago. I flipped over to court TV. I probably haven't done that since the OJ trial just to see what was going on. But I didn't. I wasn't one of the people that was obsessing. Did you follow it? I watched a couple of Dateline episodes about it, so I'm kind of...
Starting point is 00:06:03 So you're an expert? Yeah, I'm an expert on top of it. So if she didn't, are they saying the Boston police guys did? Somebody killed that man. And now they've got to find out. I guess they're going to have to get you on the case. I don't know. I don't know anything about it.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I really didn't watch any of it, but I know some people, it was very important, the verdict. And so now I guess will she have a reality show soon? Her book probably comes out next week. She'll be on the view, a co-host on the view soon. Well, it is weird to me. Like, we'll just as a society just pick a case and obsess over it. Because this doesn't seem that unique to other stuff that's happening to go out there. I think it may as it.
Starting point is 00:06:44 She's kind of pretty. Is that probably part of it? It is a police officer. But, I mean, some people just absolutely obsessed over every little thing about it for months. And it's weird how we do that. Well, you can listen to me and Drew and Billy do the news on the Matt Jones. show. It's tonight at 6 o'clock on HAS, or you can listen on podcast. I will say, Billy, his news was a little negative yesterday. Although, to be fair, there's not a lot of fun things happening right now
Starting point is 00:07:11 in the national news, but he went back to back, Iran, Israel, legislator gets shot, playing crash in India. And we were like, Billy, can you lighten up the news just a little bit? But it was still fun. Yeah, you broke it up with an ad read there to change the mood. But you know, the news is the news. Clayton and Kroom and everything just cheered up. Billy brings the news. He doesn't decide what's out there. Yes, it's all the news.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Have you seen the Stephen A. Smith City of Memphis beef? Oh, I know I'm going to love this. Do you not know about it? No. Okay. So Stephen A. Smith went on television, and, you know, I guess Memphis traded Desmond Bain to Orlando. And Stephen A. Smith said, I've talked to local authorities in Memphis.
Starting point is 00:07:54 By the way, no, you haven't. I've talked to local authorities in Memphis, and players do not want to go to Memphis because there's too much crime. That's why they don't sign with Memphis. They're worried about there being too much crime. And as soon as I saw that, I was like, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm not saying there's not crime in Memphis, but you don't think there's crime in Chicago. You don't think there's crime in Detroit. You don't think there's crime in San Francisco and L.A.
Starting point is 00:08:19 I mean, there's crime in a lot of places. The other thing is, these players, they don't live where the crime. crime is. Like, do you think John Morant is living where the crime in Memphis is? I bet he's living in a suburb in a massive house.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Well, the city of Memphis is angry about it. I mean, angry. Tashon Prince got involved yesterday. Did you see? Said Stephen, because Tashon lives in Memphis. Right. It says you don't know anything about Memphis. The mayor of Memphis is mad. Memphis is up in arms. I'm kind
Starting point is 00:08:53 of Ryan on Memphis's side. Not that I don't think there's crime. I'm sure there is. A, no players deciding where to go based on crime. Chicago, do you think you're not going to go play in Chicago? But B, I'd be mad, too. You can't just say a whole city players are not signing because of that. He totally made that up.
Starting point is 00:09:12 He made it up. You think he's talking to the Memphis police? Hey, Stephen A, it's the Memphis police. Like, stop it. Like you said, these players, they ain't living in where there's crime going down to Memphis. I'm sure there's some areas of Memphis you don't want to go down. But there's areas of almost every city. You don't want to go down.
Starting point is 00:09:26 There's areas of Louisville at night. You don't want to go down. There's areas of Harlan I wouldn't go at night. Like, I mean, just that's how it is. And what about the big bass pro shop in the pyramid? I mean, Memphis has a lot of things the players probably enjoy. I assume they're there at least every other weekend. So it's easy to crap on Memphis.
Starting point is 00:09:44 But let's talk about the good things of Memphis. Food, barbecue. Yes. Great food in Memphis, right? Music. The Blues. Three-six Mafia. History.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Do you remember when we were? We walk by the Martin Luther King, the Lorraine Hotel, the music, civil rights. A lot of that stuff is there. Jerry the King Lawler. Jerry the King Lawler, according to Shannon is there. Of the great wrestlers of all time. So Stephen A. Smith doubled down yesterday, and he was like, I looked and per capita, like, stop. Whether players want to go to play in Memphis, they may not want to play because it's a small city.
Starting point is 00:10:25 But, Drew, it's not because they think they're going to get robbed when they go to the game. That is not why they go there. I'm sure most players would prefer a market like L.A. or New York. I could understand it for that reason, but I don't know that they're out in the trouble. And I think L.A. and New York are probably the two most attractive markets. And guess what they have some? Crime. Guess what they don't have?
Starting point is 00:10:46 A pyramid bass pro shops. It must have really upset Tashon because that guy never says, speaks up about anything. It kind of keeps to himself. The people of Memphis are upset. And I'm for it. I love Memphis. I've had such a great time. I've had fun in Memphis.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Except for John Higgins, Memphis was a great trip when we went down. We were duckmas. Yeah, we walked the ducks. That's right. Yeah, the Peabody. The Peabody, the Ducks. So he should apologize to the Ducks. Definitely.
Starting point is 00:11:13 He will not be a Duckmaster like we were ever when he goes to Memphis. I think Stephen A just likes being the villain and having everybody talking about it. Yeah, he did a thing. I think Stephen A thinks he plays. Right. Like, he did a thing where he goes. LeBron doesn't like me. I don't like LeBron.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Like, who cares? Who cares what you think. LeBron really spends his time worried about you? LeBron's a billionaire. You think he's sitting there worried about Stephen A. Smith? No, but Stephen A loves putting himself in the conversation. Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Who's up next? Jerry. Jerry. What's up, Jerry? Maybe this is Jerry the King. No, it's not. First off, I spend a year in Memphis and working for a company in Memphis and downtown Memphis. And I can get that a little bit.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Memphis was the most crime-ridden city in the country for a long time. Did you ever get, were you ever a victim of crime in Memphis, Jerry? I almost was. Everybody's almost a victim of crime. Were you ever a victim of crime? Let me finish. I went to a gas station and stopped. But they get my receipt with the gas.
Starting point is 00:12:18 So I go inside to get my receipt and as I walk into the gas station, four police cars come screaming up, guys coming out with guns and drawn. told me to get the hell out of the stopping rob and get back to my car. Well, first of all, it's your fault for going to a place called Stop and Rob. Okay. When you went to a place called Stop and Rob, then you should have known that maybe that was a place you shouldn't be at, Jerry. It was an Exxon, but everybody called it to Stop and Rob. Well, again, if everyone in town called it to Stop and Rob, maybe you don't go, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:12:49 If you may get robbed when you go to Stop and Rob. And we had to have, we worked at a building in downtown Memphis. Okay. We had a sign up. Get your football story. Go ahead. Well, I was actually going to talk about dogs.
Starting point is 00:13:02 I love dogs. I have border collie. Okay. I love them. And I'm going to say what I'm going to say. Okay. No, Terry,
Starting point is 00:13:09 you don't get to do paragraphs. Go, good, go. Okay. I lived in France, in Normandy, and the French took their dogs
Starting point is 00:13:17 everywhere. It was gross. It was disgusting. It's getting that way over here now. With these purses of these purse dogs, my wife's not at a restaurant, in Lexington a couple weeks ago. I'm going to say which one.
Starting point is 00:13:28 This woman has set over two tables over with a dog in her purse. Yeah, I don't like that. I don't like that. I appreciate the call, Jerry. I'm waiting. I'll actually finish that call with agreeing with Jerry. People who put their dogs in their purse and take them into places, that's not cool either. I agree.
Starting point is 00:13:44 He's right. In France, people take their dogs everywhere, and most people don't like French people. So I think there's a correlation. Anywhere. Well, they don't. Have you ever been around French people? people, they're not the nicest people in the world. Anything that poops in public
Starting point is 00:13:59 does not need to be in a restaurant. Well, that means we can't take you. He said he lived in Normandy. I think I said this many years ago. If you ever get a chance in life, go to Normandy. If you're going to list the top seven or eight places
Starting point is 00:14:17 I've ever been in terms of just powerful, you're there and you just feel it. Normandy is right there. Standing there, looking over that beach because the wind is always blowing and you just sit there and picture what that had to be like
Starting point is 00:14:32 in World War II and then the you know the cemetery that is there it's one of the it's hard to get to like you have to go somewhere take a train then get on a bus then get on another bus
Starting point is 00:14:45 like it's not easy to get to but it is worth the trip when you say go understand how powerful that would be but what else is there other stuff there is pretty much the beach and a roller coaster I didn't expect Coney Island, but I mean, is it a... They got the graveyard for Canadians, a graveyard for French, graveyard for United States.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Yeah, so there's all these graveyards with the crosses. But you can go and you can get, like there's a little tour thing there. I don't know if they give tours, but they will show you. You can sit and see, okay, where did they come up? Here's where the Germans were. Here's where the Americans got to. Then they moved here. Here was the train.
Starting point is 00:15:22 And you can, and it's one of the few, you know, when you go to like a Civil War thing, it's hard to really see the battle. It's just grass. This is, you can see because of the land elevation, you can almost picture what it could have looked like. I mean, you can't really, but you know what I mean. Like you can kind of watch it in your head. And I just, have you been there? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:44 With my family, when my brother lived in Paris and we walked down on the beach and, you know, my dad got emotional about it because, you know, he's a history teacher. He talked about that battle for years and years and years in the classroom, and for him to be standing on the beach. It's kind of one of the more powerful moments I've had with my dad. It's almost, yeah, it's hard not to be emotional about it. And when I went, you know, it was windy, it was a little rainy, which is what it was that day, right? And if you've seen Saving Private Ryan, you can see it, and then you're there. And it's just, it's a, it's.
Starting point is 00:16:16 When you walk the ground, there's still, you know, these manholes where the bombs are, you know. That's right. those are still. Yeah. So I didn't mean to get off on that after he said he went to the robin shop. But go to the robin shop. I think I expect you're going to get robbed. Summer is here.
Starting point is 00:16:33 And cornbread hemp is your front porch pass to relaxation. Shannon, what's your favorite flavor of the seltzer? Salted watermelon is my favorite. Salted watermelon. Well, my favorite's the watermelon gummies. But whatever you like, they have up to a 5 milligram infusion to give you a light lift without a hangover. Use my code KSR for 20% off your.
Starting point is 00:16:52 your first purchase, it's cornbreadhemp.com's code KSR. Cornbread hemp, this is the good life. We'll take a break. Be right back here in Independence, KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
Starting point is 00:17:13 I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
Starting point is 00:17:39 SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slices Life 12 and the TikTok podcast. network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:18:18 What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:46 How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanged. meaning on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45.
Starting point is 00:19:12 How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network
Starting point is 00:19:36 available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
Starting point is 00:20:00 I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:20:19 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Now, Rod Lemon has some breaking news, Shannon. Oh, really? Okay. Rani na, nah. A rare Rye and Lemon breaking news. Ryan, what is the breaking news?
Starting point is 00:21:01 There's a new house on the market in the city of Lexington. The former home of a one Vince Merrill has just hit the market. Wow. Not a champion's golf course. The doghouse. What's it going for? 1.89 million. That's a little rich for my blood.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Does he have a pool? Yeah, got a pool. Look at that. That's beautiful there. Maybe we can negotiate. You ride your golf car right over the pool. course. I've seen Vince pull that move a few times. Yeah, he's got a nice. I've been out there.
Starting point is 00:21:26 It's really, really, really nice out. So I guess it's happening. Because we talked about, I think we kind of hopefully just kind of talked about maybe they would just live here and he would commute back and forth for a while. That was never going to work, though. You can't live here and work in Louisville. I thought we'd just do that maybe for Renee. They just bought that house. I will say this, Shannon, I'm getting every night a picture of where Vince is eating dinner. I got another one last night. Well, people are No, last night he had his wife
Starting point is 00:21:55 And there were a couple of other people I didn't know there But wherever he goes to eat There are KSR spies Because the text machine is just Well, here's Vince eating dinner here And here's Vince eating dinner here You don't ever think Vince eats at home maybe Oh Vince doesn't eat at home
Starting point is 00:22:08 But I can't criticize him When's the last time I eat at home? I mean, I don't know I don't know Not a lot So but you know I'm with you I got sent a picture of Vince at lunch yesterday
Starting point is 00:22:17 I can tell Vince where he's Ben. I could actually name Vince's meals better than I could name my own meals the last 48 hours. Keep getting lots of Louisville photos. Did you see the thing about Will Wade and the player from North Carolina? Tell me about it. So there's a guy from North Carolina who transferred to North Carolina State. So in and of itself, that's a big deal, right?
Starting point is 00:22:38 Will Wade got him. I guess he came off the bench at North Carolina. I only played a few minutes a game, I think. Seems like Jackson. I don't know what his name is, but he's got a name. He has one. Will Wade made a statement talking about him, previewing him and said something to the effect of, I don't know why North Carolina didn't play more.
Starting point is 00:23:01 They have to be really stupid to not see how good he is. Did he use the word stupid? I think he did. Which feels like a Will Wade is coming in firing at North Carolina and Duke, which I like. That's what NC State need. They need a guy to come into me say, I'm not scared of you, North Carolina. I'm not scared of you, Duke, and he kind of did it with that comment. I did not like him at LSU whatsoever. I got off my share of jokes about him paying players,
Starting point is 00:23:29 but since his little run in McNeese and sticking his chest out at NC State saying, bring it to North Carolina, I've got to admit, I've been a fan here of Will Wade in the last couple of years. He's going to do good there. I mean, he's going to do really well. I don't know, like, you know, are they going to win a title or anything like that? I'm not sure. but he will, if I'm Carolina, I'm scared. Duke's always going to be good. But if I'm Carolina, I'm a little scared, they could get past in the short term. If Huber Davis, because, you know, he's not been killing it,
Starting point is 00:23:59 I could see NC State Ryan kind of taking over their slot in the short term. Yeah, if you're Will Wade, you can't be scared of North Carolina. You've got to take shots when you can. You're going to recruit against those guys? You're going to play against those guys. You can't act like you're scared or intimidated by them. People don't realize how many North Carolina State fans there are. Like, when you think of them.
Starting point is 00:24:18 North Carolina, you only think of Duke and Carolina. But in the state of North Carolina, NC State has the second most fans. Carolina has the most, but there are more NC State fans than there are Duke in North Carolina. Duke's got more nationwide fans. Sure. But in North Carolina, if you look at the map, you go from Raleigh, East, those are all state fans. There's a lot of African-American rural people that live like down on the, where the chicken farms and all that are, that's where I did my death penalty case in Duplin and Jones County.
Starting point is 00:24:52 And you go all the way to Wilmington and all that. Those are all NC state fans. They're like country NC state fans. And people don't realize they exist. But if you get that thing going, Drew, and then they get into it, they can be huge. And this is the first time, well, outside of their three-week run in the tournament two years ago, I mean, that was pretty big deal. But outside of that one little month of the tournament, this is the most excited and optimistic.
Starting point is 00:25:15 They've been in a long time. They've gone through several coaches, and he's finally brought the word, but I guess some just confidence you're willing to punch up in that area when they've been running third for so long. Who's up next year? Let's go to Donnie. Donnie. How are you, Donnie? Matt, got something for you here. All right, tell me.
Starting point is 00:25:34 You were referencing yesterday about the bark in the park, and you said Fluffy referencing a dog. Well, you may be think of a song called Fluffy. by W-E-E-E-N. If you have not heard that song, you listen to Fluffy. Please, I got to hear your comments on this song. All right. Well, Shannon will play Fluffy when we come back from the next break.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Okay? All right, well, I'll do it. You got to listen to the whole song, though. I'm not going to listen to the whole song on the air, but we'll play a part of it. You have to. It will blow your mind. All right. Well, I'll listen to it on the car.
Starting point is 00:26:12 We'll play a little bit of it here. I appreciate the call. You have to. What if we don't? What's going to happen? He's going to be very angry at you if you don't. Who's next? Brennan.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Brennan, go ahead, Brennan. Hey, Matt, what's going on? Man, another independence listener here. More independence people. All right, the city's coming out. Yes, sir. Been listening since we got that famous call about Shane not wearing any socks. There's good time.
Starting point is 00:26:37 Shane and Grayson. Right. Right. So here's what I got for you. So before you left for Amsterdam, a caller called in and made a comment about how he didn't think, oh, way's second year would be good. You kind of compared it to Oscar's second year.
Starting point is 00:26:52 You kind of went to break. You were going to touch on it. And then when you came back, I guess you forgot about it or whatever. But I just wanted to get your take on what you thought. How's that going to be different? I didn't agree with you at all. But what's your take on that? I think Oway, there is a world, I appreciate the call,
Starting point is 00:27:09 where Oway scores fewer points this year than he scored last year. As a matter of fact, I think for Kentucky to be really good, that wouldn't be a bad thing because they've got so many players. I think O-Way be the, what did he average last year? 14, 15, I'd say 16-ish, 17-ish. I could say that being 12 or 13 this year. I still think he's going to be really good. A lot of what O-Way gives you, Drew, is not inconsistent.
Starting point is 00:27:37 It's effort, it's getting to the basket, it's playing hard defensively. He'll do that. Well, he scored the same amount of points. I think it'll be less. The idea that he's, first of all, Oscar was still good. good in the second year. He wasn't maybe national player of the year, but he was still really good. I think O.A. will have
Starting point is 00:27:52 a good year. I don't know but it would not surprise me if he averages fewer points. Yeah, I think he even said yesterday, I think he might take a step back in points just because there's going to be a lot more scores around him. Hopefully they're much healthier than they were a year ago where they're not as thin and maybe don't even need to have to do as much.
Starting point is 00:28:08 I'm really looking forward to see what his defense does because in that combine, I watched those scrimmages, and he was playing some lockdown defense in those just five on five drills in Chicago, which isn't a real game atmosphere. But he showed some aggressiveness on that side that if he locks in that way in the college season, I think he's going to be great on both ends. If you made me create the stat profile of a Kentucky team that I'd like to see that could win
Starting point is 00:28:30 the national championship next year, I think Jalen Lowe's the leading score, always the second leading score, and you got a bunch of dudes averaging eight, nine, ten points, like four other guys. To me, that is the makeup of a team, Ryan, that can win the whole thing. I think we all hope and we will get a step up from away in his all-around game. He'll become a better player. Points may go down. I think it'll be a better player. And they need somebody to get a shot at the end of the game.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Give the ball to him, man. He can get to the basket. He can hit a couple of game winners against Oklahoma. He's our guy. I hope acquaintance is averaging a lot of points. That could mean big things for Kentucky if he's getting several. You're going to hear me say this until you're probably tired of hearing it. But Kentucky will be great if Jalen Lowe is great.
Starting point is 00:29:12 I think that he is the key. He's great, we'll be great. If he's just good, we might still be really good, but to be great, he needs to be great. We'll take a break. Be right back. KS.R. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:31 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. This is awful. Why do you think this guy wouldn't be to listen to this? It's terrible. This is a horrible song. The first line. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:29:54 good. What Fluffy do? Fluffy's been a bad dog. Actually, now I'm going to have to listen to it, Shannon, on the way home. I was going to tell you the first line. I don't know if you could hear it or not, but it says, fluffy, furry buddy chewed his leg on the porch. Why did you do it fluffy on the porch? On the floor.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Interesting. Okay, now you're actually intrigued me because I got to see why he would think I would want to listen to this song. Because on paper and in the opening sentence, it seems awful. I will be listening to this on the way back to Lexington. Some good storytelling. Let's do it on the way there is. We are at Salfer Creek tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:30:24 Mike's Landing. Mike's landing. Third summer in a row, we've been down there. They do it right on the dock, right on the lake. It's beautiful. Do we know what the weather's going to be? I don't know yet. Hopefully it's good because it is beautiful out there.
Starting point is 00:30:35 We've always had good crowds. Come out and see us. That is a part of the state. If you're somebody who says, I want to go to parts of state, I haven't been. That is a neat little part of the state. The town is Berksville. Berksville. They've got a good bakery there.
Starting point is 00:30:48 They've got a little restaurant. Got the judge. I can't remember his name. Williams used to be the state senate president you can lock billy in a bathroom there billy gets locked in bathrooms is it the one with the hotel up on the hill there's yeah the wotale the wotel the wotel i did there's some kind of story about that place i went up to the wotel i just say be careful about that um the lakers drew soap for 10 billion dollars yesterday that's a lot of the big number i mean the south just to give an example seltics sold for
Starting point is 00:31:19 six billion like three months ago so the lakers apparently are worth four billion more dollars than the Celtics, which is kind of mind-blowing. The bus family, who has owned it, you know, they did a TV show about them, right? They've owned it for 50 years. They are letting it go. The story is the one, there's three kids. If you watch that show, you know, there's, the woman is serious, and then the two kids are buffoons, the boys. And the woman, basically the buffoons wanted their money, and so they had to sell it so they could
Starting point is 00:31:50 split the team. And the woman who's run it, Jenny Bus, not going to be able to do it anymore. now there'll be a new owner, and I think it's the guy who owns the Red Sox. So he owns the Dodgers. He owns the Dodgers. He owns both L.A. teams now. So now he owns the Dodgers and the Lakers. But $10 billion is a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Yeah, the kids waited about 10 years after Jerry passed to cash in. I wonder if he's rolling over or if he's proud of him for turning. I think he saw he bought it for $67 million, and they flipped it into $10. He bought it for $60 million. He got to be pretty proud of that, even if he wasn't up for selling. I think he probably ought to be pretty proud. Have you watched that show, winning time? I've watched some of it, not watched all of it, I have watched some of it.
Starting point is 00:32:26 It's actually really good. It is, yeah. It is really good. It's a TV show that's both entertaining, but also, I think, really well done. Have you seen the Kate Hudson show about the, it's like a spinoff of the Lakers on Netflix? It's okay. I've seen that. Let's give them some good content for season two.
Starting point is 00:32:43 But the winning time, if you can just get over the fact that the guy who's playing magic and Kareem and all those, if you can just get over, that it's not them, which sometimes can be a little hard, because we know what they look like, then I otherwise think it's actually really good. I really liked it. I even thought the guy that played magic. I mean, you can't get it perfect, but they did pretty well cast. He wasn't very good at basketball.
Starting point is 00:33:04 How are Hollywood actors so bad at sports? He looked a little bit like magic, but when they had the basketball scenes, he didn't look like he had played a lot of basketball. I remember Jerry West came out like very anti. Well, they make Jerry West come out to seem like an insane person. Yeah, and I don't know if he was or not, but they make him come off as that.
Starting point is 00:33:24 that. Pat Rowley was another character. It's hard to look at him and see Pat Rowley. It's hard getting used to that. But they did as good a job as you can. One person writes, Matt, how many points a game for Trent Noah this year? Good question. How many points a game for Trent Noah this year? I would say he's going to have a hard time getting on the floor. We all like Trent, but man, there's so much talent on this roster this year. He's not going to get a lot of opportunity, I don't think. I say 3.4. You didn't give me an answer. I'll go less than 3.4. Okay, but a number would be nice. Three.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Okay. The assignment. Wait, man, hang on. You're going to go less than 3.4, and you're just going to say 3? Sure. So you thought Drew was 0.4 points away? Just ridiculous for putting the other 0.4 points in. Yeah, it's almost a half a point.
Starting point is 00:34:11 I don't see that coming. It's tough to score half a point in basketball. Shana, how many points in game for Trin-Owe? I'll be a little more optimistic. I'll go 5. Five. Yeah, I'm going to say, I'm going to be a little more optimistic than you two. I'm going to say 4.5.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Here's the thing. I think Trent Noah's playing time will come down to, in some ways, whether or not the other guys can shoot. If the other guys can shoot, then I don't, then I think it'll hurt his playing time, because I think some of those guys can do things Trent can't do. But if they can't, and we don't have a guy who can consistently knock down shots, then I think Trent's going to get a chance. Because they're going to have to have dudes who can, make buckets.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Yeah. So if Jaylen Lowe comes in and he's a good three-point shooter, and if Jasper Johnson's a good three-point shooter, and if Denzel Aberdeen's a good three-point shooter, then I don't know how much time, Cam Williams, I don't know how much time you're going to get for Noah. But if those guys, if Jalen Lowe's not shooting well, and O-A hasn't improved his three-point shot, then I think Noah's going to get a chance because you've got to have somebody on the floor who can spread it out and open it up.
Starting point is 00:35:21 He earned these minutes last year by doing the other things. just getting loose balls, rebounds. He did. He can do that again, just kind of get on the floor. But he also got on the floor in part because there were a lot of injuries, right? I mean, now, once he got his chance, he had games like against Tennessee that he played really well. But if there hadn't been all the injuries, I'm not sure how much time he would have ended up getting to begin with. So we'll see.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Earlier this week, I played an over-under game and said his minutes at 10 minutes per game. Or would you go over or under at 10 minutes? He averaged 11 last year, but they weren't nearly as deep. I'll answer that question by reframing a little bit. Under 10 in SEC play. But I could see a non-conference him having games where he gets a lot of minutes to where, I don't know where it'll even out at the end. But when you're getting a conference play, I would say under 10.
Starting point is 00:36:09 But I also don't think it'll be zero. I mean, I think it's going to be seven, eight, something like that. I think him and Colin both are just going to be in that. I think Colin's playing. I think Colin's playing. Backup point guard? I think once he stopped looking scared, he looked like he was ready.
Starting point is 00:36:29 He was ready to be good. He was scared until February. But then once that scared was gone, he's a player. He's playing, in my opinion. I don't know if he's going to be the sixth man, ninth man, but he will be on the court. I had an over under, Noah and Chandler combined 13 points a game. 13 points?
Starting point is 00:36:51 Yeah, I did those two because of press cover. That's an under for 13 points. Another fun, Chandler fact, about him turning on. He had more points in March than he had in November through February combined. So in that one little stretch, he did more than he did all season. Is that right? What's the one? They needed him the most, too.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Who's up next, Shannon? Cat Daddy. Cat Daddy. How are you? Doing great. Thanks for taking my call. I've been saved in the summer topic, and you guys kind of touched on it a little bit today. But with the renovation, with the new park in downtown Lexington, and the renovations to Triangle,
Starting point is 00:37:22 Park. Matt, you're a promoter. What's got to happen in downtown Lexington for us to get a viewing area like they have in the hockey markets or the Raptors where we can watch away UK games together in downtown Lexington? That's a good question. The problem is weather, right? The problem is when we're playing in January, February, and March, it's a weather issue. I know, for instance, at KS. Bar, we have a plan as part of our renovation for March for basketball games and outside viewing if the weather works. But it would be cool if a city had that. The problem is just for us when it comes to downtown,
Starting point is 00:38:02 unless there's a game going on, people don't have an incentive to go down there during the week. And I think it makes it hard, Drew, to make something like that happen. Maybe with the amphitheater and stuff, people will do that more. We'll see, I don't know. Maybe the amphitheater is the answer. I put a big screen up on the stage. Yeah, maybe that's a really good point.
Starting point is 00:38:19 You could just make it. That's a great point. Why couldn't you just do it at the Amphitheat? It is fun seeing that at larger cities where people who couldn't go just form a party outside. That's what came to mind with me with the amphitheater. And if they can watch hockey in the winter in Canada, we're Kentuckyans. We can watch basketball in the winter. Yeah, that's true. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:38:39 I mean, I do think there is a collective viewing experience that is awesome, that you just can't replicate at home. I'm too nervous to do it, to be quite frank with you. But when I was in Spain for the Euros last year, and I was in Madrid, and Spain was playing for the title, and I went to the city square with like 100,000 Spaniards and watched Spain win the Euros, it was one of the coolest sports experiences of my life. And they were singing and dancing and playing music, and it was unbelievable. It would be nice, Ryan, if Kentucky had something. Yeah, it seems to be more of a thing in Europe, but it does seem like you're not.
Starting point is 00:39:20 United States are kind of adapting it a little bit trying to do things like that. So maybe the amphitheater is the answer. You know, put it out there. You can watch it from your deck on the back of your house. I'm telling you, if you have not seen it, if they don't screw it up, that's going to be one of the better things in Lexington. Just don't screw it up. They won't screw it up.
Starting point is 00:39:38 I have faith. Well, they're going to have to police it because, I mean, it's a different conversation, but, you know, it comes and goes. But I feel like this summer for the first time, it's been, I think the homeless issue has gotten worse in Lexington this summer. I thought it had been better the last few years. Do you agree with me on that? Oh, I totally agree with you on that. And I don't know. That's not an easy situation. I don't know what you do about that. I'm for humanitarian. Like, you don't just go, get out. Like, you got to do something for,
Starting point is 00:40:09 but it is, it's worse. You know, that they had like four businesses yesterday got hit by Iraq overnight. I saw one of them. One of them. One of them was right by my radio state. But they were like four. And, you know, I went walking on Tuesday night, and I was like, there's a lot more. And that's just, you know, that makes people feel unsafe. So the city's got to figure that out. Because Louisville's actually done a really good job. Louisville's is better.
Starting point is 00:40:37 Still not perfect. But Louisville is better. But Lexington's, I think, has gotten a little bit worse. So Louisville did have a really serious problem. What did they do? I don't know. I'm not sure. Shannon, do you know?
Starting point is 00:40:46 It's still not great. It's still not great, but it's better than it was. I mean, it had gotten really bad in Louisville a couple years ago. And it seems a little better. I can tell you. Craig Greenberg. Yeah, that's true. Why don't you get on that, journalist?
Starting point is 00:40:59 The NBA finals are here. This is your last chance to bet on the NBA end up next season. The game is tonight. Drafking Sportsbook, bet five, get $300 in bonus bets. Who's winning? Thunder or Pacers? Pacers win tonight. Come on Pacers.
Starting point is 00:41:11 You've got to get this game tonight. Force a game seven. I'd take him if Halliburton's at full speed, but it's not looking like he will be, so I'll go Thunder end it tonight. Thunder win. by 20. Yeah, it's going to be a lot. I think it's going to be...
Starting point is 00:41:23 I like when you said that last time in Pacers 1, so I like that. I like what you're new in there. Thank you. You don't have to... I'm going to be right on this one. Thunder are going to win. But for Draft Kings, bet five get $300 to Draft King's. Promote is KSR, and you only win.

I'm not going to try to think about what that S-D Sam's for. Straight down the middle. Straight down the middle pinball. That's a lot less exciting than what I was hoping. We'll take a break and be right back. This is KSR. A blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:43:28 What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:43:49 Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that?
Starting point is 00:44:19 I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that Ness was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How hard can it be? How hard can it be? Getting naked at 50 with the new guy. That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
Starting point is 00:44:38 So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Deanna Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano,
Starting point is 00:45:01 and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves,
Starting point is 00:45:18 I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:45:37 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Welcome back. If you're a young professional in Kentucky like you, Ryan Lemon, there's something big event coming up. What is it? July 25th in Louisville, it's the Young Professional Summit. A lot of you went last year when we did this, and I heard a lot of positive feedback. If you would like to meet other young professionals in Kentucky network and hear some great speakers, Elizabeth McCall, she's the master distiller for Woodford Reserve. We met her at the Oaks. Scotty Davenport, former head coach at Bellarmine and others, level up your career by learning about the state and becoming with the Kentucky Chamber. So go to k.ychamber.com slash events and look for the young professional event. I did hear, like that's not just me doing it.
Starting point is 00:46:46 I did hear a lot of people tell me they thought that was very valuable. There are still, I went to something like that 15 years ago. And I met there, Craig Greenberg. He became the mayor of Louis, Morgan McGarvey, who's now a congressman. And then a lot of times when we go to these towns, I know somebody in those places. And it all stem from one of those things 15 years ago. So you can make connections, Ryan, all around the state. Would you love to have those connections?
Starting point is 00:47:11 I would. And I really appreciate you consider me a young professional. So thank you. Which one of those is he more of? Is he more young or more professional? That's a good question. I don't know. Young at heart.
Starting point is 00:47:25 We'll go with that. You're definitely young at heart. Young and heart professors. You are much younger than me at heart. Not in life, but at heart. I got a big birthday coming up. What is it? 59.
Starting point is 00:47:37 Dude, you're almost 60. I don't process you as almost 60 years old. I don't either. I do not either. 59. See, people ask me how old you are, and I always give you. them like I never get it right I always tell them like 53 54 55 what are we doing to celebrate it well it made me feel bad when Drew our baby boy turned 40 last month last week but I think you look really good for 70 so no I mean I die for but for 59 years old I think you look really good
Starting point is 00:48:05 59 that's a big number I was telling you the the the floth of hair you got a few years ago I think did a lot of good work sure yeah yeah and my new teeth I got I mean I don't think the teeth Like a movie star now. The teeth has never been something I thought really changed a lot. I never looked at you before and said, man, if that dude would get his teeth done. Occasionally, like, a Facebook memory will pop up before Ryan went full of Kardashian on us. And I'll look at it and I'll genuinely think he looks much older eight, nine, ten years ago than he does right now. You need some lip filler.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Lip filler, okay. I can work on that. Maybe a butt lift. Ooh. Okay, don't that. I should have never said that. I set him up for that. I set him up for that.
Starting point is 00:48:44 And that was, did you see the story shared about the chat GPT wife? No. It's going to be on CBS, Drew's show, CBS Sunday morning this week. I'll be watching live. A man, they didn't interview with a man who is in love with his chat GPT girlfriend. I know it sounds ridiculous, but he's in love. And I guess, you know, they were doing a story about people who have become obsessive about chat, GBT. and on air he asked his chat GPT girlfriend to marry him on CBS this morning and she says yes
Starting point is 00:49:20 and he begins to cry this is all like going to air Sunday morning this clip is out there I can't wait to see this hey well Shannon you can watch it you'll love it for me it's kind of cringy like I'm like the main thing I see when you watch the clip is why did this man let them film this no I'm serious it's one thing to do it like that may but like why would you let because the clip is being passed around and people are not surprisingly having the reaction Shannon did and and laughing at it why would you let CBS this morning do this interview if you're proposing to your computer I'm going to think your decision making is already a little bit off already but what if the computer had said no to him Shannon on national television
Starting point is 00:50:07 even better I was going to say yes it's programmed to say that but if he had If you got rejected by a computer on live TV, that would be the greatest embarrassment in TV history, right? Listen to Shannon. I knew that was going to be his reaction. Ryan, when I say watch the video, be prepared for it to hurt inside when you watch it, because it is hard to watch, to be honest with you.
