Starting point is 00:03:23 Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287. The KSR Golf Scramble for Louisville goes on. on sale Wednesday. We do it right at the end of the year. So the golf scramble for Louisville is on sale Wednesday. So get all your friends, family, be ready when I put it on sale Wednesday in Louisville. There won't be nearly as many teams as there are in Lexington because we're only doing one course. So make sure you get in there to get in. That one is always a lot of fun and it's right there when the season is right before it's about to start. Monday, August 18th, I believe it's the day for that
Starting point is 00:03:58 scrambling. Is it the 18th? I believe it is. It is. Okay. So Monday, August the 18th. but be ready. It goes on sale on Wednesday. Okay, text machine, 772, 7745254. One person writes, Matt, I heard you say that you were talking to Kentucky fans when you saw him around the way. Does that include
Starting point is 00:04:16 when I saw you last night arguing with the two guys at the bar at Roosters? Oh, no. Yes. But it wasn't arguing. Well, it was kind of arguing. But then it became actually a very fun. I actually enjoyed it, conversation. You know.
Starting point is 00:04:32 The Louisville fans. No, Kentucky fans. Yeah. I mean, it might have been like political. Maybe. But maybe not. It had aspects of politics.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Yeah, I just, they were talking at the ball. I was by myself. Were you wearing your MAGA hat in public? It always gets me. I try to hide it. No, they were sitting there and I heard one of them say something that was objectively false. And I said, sit there and thought it wasn't an opinion. He just said something that was objectively false.
Starting point is 00:05:07 And I was like, do I want to say something? I could feel your foot tap me. Yep. And then he said it again. And then he said it a third time. And I just went, okay, I just have to say, they both had Kentucky hats on it. Yeah. So I knew it was like amongst my people.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Just a little family dispute. And I said it, which led to us having a conversation. And it wasn't a bad argument. It was, it was, they knew me, of course. Well, I say, of course. They knew me. They're like, Matt Jones, I listen to you every day. Stupid liberal.
Starting point is 00:05:39 And then next thing, you know, we were talking. And I ended up talking to them most of the time. I liked them. Both really nice guys in Georgetown. So you could have a debate, go back and forth a little bit. Yes. They, they... Not a fight.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Complete, like, that's honestly how it should be. They did a, they listened. I listened to them. We ended up switching subjects and talking about other things and they were very nice. Yeah. So not an argument? I think people thought it was. At one point, the bartender came over and goes,
Starting point is 00:06:04 well, we don't need to be no idea of here or not. And I was like, it's not that bad. I promise. It was good. I like you just, when you hear something, you've got a little trait that you have to insert. I'm pretty good now at not. Like, I can hear any opinion and let it go. What are you laughing at?
Starting point is 00:06:25 It sounds like a chance in France. You can't even say that with a straight base. Come on. I'm maybe not any, but most opinions. But this was just like he said something that was factually. incorrect. And then we looked it up. Like he kept saying,
Starting point is 00:06:39 I go, that's just not true. I said, let's look it up. And he goes, I don't trust that machine. And then I went, all right, well, then what do you trust? If you're not going to trust. And then, but it was, I promise you, it was a positive conversation. Two people were having their nice,
Starting point is 00:06:54 roosters dinner. And they were not, they were arguing, they were arguing with each other. And you're just like, hey, I actually want to look this up and show you that you're wrong. I would sit there and just let them be wrong. be wrong until they die. I know you have that trade. I don't. I wish I did,
Starting point is 00:07:07 but I don't. But I wouldn't have said a word if they didn't have Kentucky hats on because I felt like, Ryan, that means they're my I mean, you're amongst your people. They're my people. All right, so here's the deal. KSR comes to you. Yes. Here's what we're going to do. There's 120 counties last I checked.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Last you checked. I'm on pick five randomly today. Okay. Then, if you're in one of those five counties, you will be able to call and make the case for us to come to your house tomorrow. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:07:41 This gives the podcast people a chance to participate. I see. But you have to have a place in one of those five counties. Now, how do we pick the five counties? Completely randomly. All right. We have a number generator. I've placed the counties in order one through 120.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Okay. Drew is going to give me a number. and the five numbers that come in are the five potential counties. Then each of us will eliminate one. So five people will make their case. We'll each eliminate one in what's left is where we'll go. Does that work?
Starting point is 00:08:15 I like it. All right. And we're doing it this week? Potentially, this week or next week. We'll figure it out. Probably Thursday, though. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:24 So here we go. One through 120, Drew, what is the first number? Okay. I am on a random generator website. And what do we got? One through 20. 120. 120.
Starting point is 00:08:36 That's what said, right? No. First number that popped up is 46. 46. 46. 21, 50, 49, 49, 40. Hancock County. Yay.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Halsville. You've never been there. Have we not? No. You may have stopped there on your book, but we've not done the show there. So there's one potential county. All right. One through 120.
Starting point is 00:08:57 Here we go again. Number two is 103. 103. 103. That would be 1917, 15, 15, 13, 13, 8, 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, Rowland County. Rowland County. Morehead.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Morehead. So now either Hancock County or Round County. We got three more. Go for it, Drew. All right. The third ball reads, 1-16. 116, 120, 190, 1-18-1-7. Wayne County, Monticello.
Starting point is 00:09:24 We're just there. We were just down there. Was that where we were? No, we were in Cumberland County. We drove through Monticello. We didn't do a show in there. Monticello pull hall, the burgers. Past Wayne County.
Starting point is 00:09:35 High School. We can't do. By the way, I'm eliminating Fayette, Kenton, and Cumberland, because we've just been to those three. Okay. One through 120. All right. Ball number four reads. 106. 106. Boy, we are. 118, 150, 112, 109. Shelby County. Shelby County. I will tell you, Ryan, that will be his early favorite since we have to be in Shelby County Thursday night for something else. I can tell you if you have an entry from Shelby County, Ryan Lemon is likely to be for it, considering we have to be in Shelby County Thursday night. We're saying we're picking our menu Thursday night. Did you know that? No, nobody told me. Some of our new menu items,
Starting point is 00:10:18 the people they're making them on Thursday night and then we'll pick which ones we're keeping and which one we're not. Do I get to be there? You can be there, yes. Cool. I forgot to tell you. Last time we did this, I gained 40 pounds in one night. This is unbelievable. People may not know how this works. So most there's like four food manufacturers food companies that do restaurants in Kentucky, but really two do probably 90% up, right? You can get specialty things. Like we get our, we're going to get our burgers from a special.
Starting point is 00:10:47 But then there's the one that gives you most of your food. And most every restaurant you go to gets them from the same places. So one of the places is in Shelbyville. And they teach you how to make the items that then you cook in your kids. kitchen. Right. Right. So we're adding new items and they have this thing where you say, I want X and they'll make 20 different versions of it and you get to choose which one you want. But that means eating 20 different versions of an item. I remember when we did this the first time. We did this when we opened. Yes. Well, we're doing it again and that's Thursday night.
Starting point is 00:11:27 And Mario's going to film some of it, assuming they let us, but you do eat a lot of food. I remember last time she said take one bite of everything. It's just too much to eat. I ate one of everything. I was so sick. I could barely drive home. I didn't think I was going to live. It was so much fun, though.
Starting point is 00:11:42 We were all miserable. Can't wait to run out of there. All right. One more county. One through 120. All right. Final number. Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:11:47 Yeah, one more. Let's get out of the hundreds. Final number. Drum roll, please. 108. Stayed in a hundred. You've made it to where it was over. That is Spencer Cout.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Spencer County. J.D. Shelburne. So if you are in one of these five counties, Hancock Rowan, Wayne Shelby Spencer, uh-huh Hancock Rowan, Wayne Shelby Spencer. Tomorrow, when I ask,
Starting point is 00:12:16 you call in and give the case for us coming. Now, because we're doing it like this, we will do it, we will do it, we can do it at a house, we can do it at a community place, we can even do it at a business, but you can't like bring a crowd.
Starting point is 00:12:30 So we could sit at your business but you can't like make it an event. Okay. If that makes sense. We can't use it as advertising, but we can use it as a host. Sure. Everybody makes sense? Makes sense.
Starting point is 00:12:39 But you'll make your case as to why. If you're in one of those counties, Rallin, Hancock, Wayne, Shelby Spencer, why we should come. So spend the day calling your friends and figuring out what is the best case for your county. All of those are pretty easy to drive. Yes. We could go to all those without much difficult. Could, yeah. I don't think we've been to Hancock or Spencer.
Starting point is 00:12:57 So two of those five can I've ever even been to? Have we done a call? Have we done a show in Shelby? Yeah, we did one. It was like a... Oh, like an insurance office, right? It was something. Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Sort of. We've done it in Wayne County many times. We have not done a show in Spencer County. No. We've not done a show in Hancock County. We've done a few in Morehead. Yeah. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:13:17 All right. Those are the ones. I like it. I'm kind of looking forward to it. This is coming kind of fun. Yeah, we're only two in. Before I go to the phones. Middlesbril.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Did you see my post about Middlesbrough. I did see your post about Middlesbril. Congratulations. Well, way to go. Proud of you all. Way to go. The Circle K in Middlesboro, Shannon, which used to be a convenience store now is a Circle K. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:43 There's two parts of this. One, I don't like, one I like. It's third in the country in lottery sales. You don't like that? You don't like that. I'm not a huge pull tab. I think that's people shouldn't spend their money on that, even though I admit occasionally I will. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:14:01 But the reason it's number three is we have three states right there. People cross the county line. It's the first place they go to. Yep. So slightly embarrassed about that. But what I'm not embarrassed about, we are number one in the country in sales of polar pops. Number one. You're not embarrassed over that one?
Starting point is 00:14:22 Not at all. I bet there's a lot of mellow yellow. The Circle K in Middlesbril sells 10,000 polar polar. pops a week. Wow. That is a lot. That's a lot. That's something to be proud of right there. It is very, listen, it is a point of pride. 520,000 polar pops a year. Half a million. It's impressive. Polar pops. People don't know the drink that's in a massive cup. Big sugary drink. Think of the jobs you all are creating in the styrofoam industry.
Starting point is 00:15:01 Think of the environment that we've crushed. Unbelievable. 520,000. Everybody likes a good polar pop, but to sell that many every single day, what is going on down in Middlesboro? Not every day. That would be a lot. 10,000 a week.
Starting point is 00:15:19 How? I'll tell you what's going on. If I were a dentist, I would open up an office right there. From all the teeth, they're going to be rotting out from those polar pops. 520,000 polar pop. Have you never gotten a polar pop? When we go to a gas station, I sometimes see you walk out there with one of those massive cups for 69 cents. And I'll have one for a month later.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I might have another one. I can't do it every single day down there. It's not that the same people come every day, although they probably do. It's that in theory, 10,000 come in a week. And by the way, the Middlesboro Tourism account. seem not the official one but the unofficial one seems to have posted and don't judge them Ryan some of them might be getting diet soda there's healthy options there are healthy options diet polar pop
Starting point is 00:16:09 so congratulations to the circle K in middlesbrough right there on the three state line we need to go well they put that on like the bell county brochure like for tourism I remember I told you where Morgan Wallens from in Sneeville Tennessee they have a sign they used to have a sign that said home of Tennessee's biggest Hardee's. Wow. I don't know that.
Starting point is 00:16:31 Well, now you've got to make your own sign. Let's go to Tori. Go ahead, Tori. Hey, guys, good morning. So you were, your anecdote about Jaylen from earlier today got me thinking of, like, I was born and raised in Kentucky in Estow County, and Kentucky sports was kind of a part of my life before I even really knew what sports were.
Starting point is 00:16:51 It was like, say, family and the cats for kinds of the thing. And then as I got older, I recall checking. year all's website in high school whenever john wall's recruitment was going on and then ultimately graduated went to college at uk and uk stopped being this larger-than-life thing because i developed some relationships that kind of gave me a peek behind the curtain so to speak and what that led me to believe is is a lot of what goes on up there it's just human beings uh a lot of them exceptional human beings uh that could do crazy things but like i was in classes with john wall and them and like they were just kids i was just a kid so like Vince merrill's decision
Starting point is 00:17:25 and I don't agree with it. I don't think it's the best. But the reason I'm not up in arms and flipping him off in public is because he's just a dude and I don't like it. But I think a lot of the humanity is lost in sports, but like obviously in other aspects of life. But they got me thinking and I just wanted to make that point. I totally agree with that.
Starting point is 00:17:44 And I could very much expand on that. I appreciate the call. A lot of what happens is just human beings being human beings. A lot of Mark Stubes and Vince Morrow. A lot of why that broke. up is because it's two friends who just didn't feel like the other one was nice enough to each other. That's really what it is. We forget that these are people all the time.
Starting point is 00:18:06 You know, we forget that people in huge positions of authority can do that. You read stories about how presidents make their decisions. Oftentimes it's like, I'm mad at you, I'll show you, I'll do the opposite of what you want. Like, it's just, it's human beings. And then when it comes to the players, they're even more of just. kids. They can be mad that somebody went out with their girlfriend. Yep. So we, we all, that is something we always have to remember because it's true.
Starting point is 00:18:35 And we all have stories of, man, why wasn't player X focused? Well, actually last night he was out until five in the morning. The game was at 3. You know, I mean, we all know stories like that if you're here. And we just, sometimes we can't say them on the air, but it's true. Oh, yeah. As fans, players, coaches, they can all. often seem larger than life, really with any celebrity or you see on TV, but the other day,
Starting point is 00:18:59 everybody's a human being just trying to figure it out as best they can. I love the theory no one in life really knows what they're doing. Oh, I think the more you realize people in power... Everybody just wakes up and they just doing their best. The more you meet people in high positions of a power, you'll realize how dumb most of them are.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Like you think, oh, this is a so-and-so, they must really know. No, they don't. They're just like you. They just happen to get put into this position. We'll take a break. Be right back. KS. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise,
Starting point is 00:19:41 breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context,
Starting point is 00:20:02 and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kier Game. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
Starting point is 00:20:33 I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free, our Heart Radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? This Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point. game is about defying the odds.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 00:21:53 He has to guard Julius Rand. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:22:19 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:22:35 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? My mom wants you to wave at her. A rep. My mom wants you to wave at her. What? Where's she at?
Starting point is 00:22:54 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. We should be proud. 10,000 polar pops in a week. You just because Bullitt County can't do it. Hey, when you look in the mirror in the morning, do you have spots in your skin that worry you?
Starting point is 00:23:16 Are there new areas of skin that won't heal? Then you need a skin examination by a dermatologist. If you're out in the sun like I am, you need to have it. There may be places need to be removed. Owensboro, Bowling Green, Franklin and Powderley, the Kentucky, Skin Cancer Center. They can cure your skin cancer and give you the best cosmetic result possible. There are many five-star reviews. They've got again, Bowling Green, Franklin, Owensboro, Powderly. It's a Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. 270842-1999. Catch early, Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.
Starting point is 00:23:48 dot com. Let me tell you one cool thing that I saw this weekend. I was driving home from our show in Cumberland County. I drove to like, I guess, E-Town and then got on the interstate. And this may have gone much more south than E-Town. I don't know. But from E-Town to Louisville, you know, there had been the firefighter that had passed away down at Dale Hollow Lake. And they were bringing, I guess, the body back.
Starting point is 00:24:18 every overpass from E-town to Louisville, there were firefighters and trucks standing over the overpass. The body must have been behind me not very far because the firefighters were standing. They were like, I don't know about saluting, but they were standing there like in respect. The lights were going. And then there were police officers, some like pulled over on the side of the road with their lights. every single overpass from E-town to Louisville going into when I got off the interstate past the Gene Snyder. There were fire trucks, and I noticed they were from all over the state.
Starting point is 00:25:00 I saw one as far as Nichols County that had clearly driven there for that. I thought that was a really cool thing. Powerful, man. Just hearing you say that, kind of gave me chili bumps. It's a powerful movement to see how the fireman moment recognized as one of their own. Yeah. Pretty cool. Yeah, I mean, you hate a tragedy like that, but seeing the response and everybody come
Starting point is 00:25:18 together in that tribute. I mean, that can be very touching. I mean, you add all of them up. It was probably 200. That's awesome. Over the course of each one that I went past. Just to be at a stop where they'll pass by for a split second. And I don't even know.
Starting point is 00:25:32 It may have gone way far than that. I mean, I just picked up the interstate at E-Town. So very cool and salute to all those people. Chase, go ahead, Chase. Hey, man. It's been five a while since I was. got to call in. I'm a working man now, and I listen to y'all on the radio whenever I'm out driving and stuff still. But I finally got a week off in Panama City Beach.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Wow. So what kind of work do you do now? What kind of work do you do now, Chase? I'd like to give a shout out to Cameron Family Medical. I work at a medical place now. Well, good for you. All right. So what are you doing in Panama? Well, we're just having a big vacation, but I wanted to give a quick little highlight, our Lindsay Wilson's golf team about a month ago, won the NAA National Championship for the first time in program history, and it was funny because it's the year after I left. Oh, well, a little Ewing theory there with you. As soon as you went, they took off.
Starting point is 00:26:43 Well, congrats to Lindsay Wilson. you're going to do to celebrate in Panama? You got a wild night ahead of you, Chase? No, we're just about to go and chill on the beach and I wish Ron and the Shannon we're here. But I'm going to golf a couple days this week and get ready for Russell County two-man. What's Russell County two-man? That sounds kind of dirty. It's the biggest two-man golf tournament in the whole entire state. So you need to make sure you say golf. Make sure you say golf. Chase.
Starting point is 00:27:20 But I also want to say the guys in Russell County for the satellite camp this weekend. They were all great. And another fun fact, did you all know Bob and Jamestown has a corvette? I've heard that. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:27:36 Bob and Jamestown does have a Corvette, which you could guess by what he says and I could see it. You know, he came to Shannon's concert. in Somerset and brought his wife. His wife only gets out because she wanted to see Shannon rock it out that night. Understandable. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:51 He was at the show in Kermen County, too, down at Mike's Landing. Peggy, go ahead, Peggy. Good morning. Hey, I think I jumped the gun a little bit because I was calling me because I'm from Shelby County. Tomorrow. The contest is tomorrow, Peggy. I was very clear about that. I was going to disqualify people who called her.
Starting point is 00:28:14 I won't do it to you, but the contest rules were very clear. It's tomorrow. Okay, but I do have another thing. Okay. You talk about the firefighters. Yes. That happens everywhere. And that is one of the most bone-chilling things you see ever for a firefighter who has passed.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Yeah, I didn't even know that it was going on until I was on the road. I'd heard what happened down there. And again, I'm assuming it was bringing the body from the lake. I actually don't know that for sure. But that's my assumption since it was going for so long. And it was, yes, it is very powerful. You're exactly right. And I have participated in it with our fire department.
Starting point is 00:29:09 And it is very moving. Yeah. Totally agree with you. I appreciate it. Appreciate the call. 859-280-2287. Some of our sports at UK got some good news this weekend. I'll give you some positive news when we returned. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. You know, I love this song. No, it's great. I don't like this version of it. Yeah, you like the live version. I just trying to find that one. Can you, do you not have it?
Starting point is 00:29:42 It's not on our system. I could probably find it on YouTube. Yeah, the live ones faster and I like it. It was going to be, that was going to be what I used on the UK football post-game show for every time we won. And then I just didn't do it. Because back when we weren't winning and I was doing it, one time we came in at night after having beaten somebody and this came on. And I like this song and I was like, you know what? This should be the signal to we.
Starting point is 00:30:10 won a football game. What's the song you play when you lose though? Because that would probably be played more often. Yeah. I hadn't thought of that. And then I just never got around to it. But not this version. Yeah. Play the, play that, look up the live one for the next second. And you can just sit there and picture, Drew, if we had won a football game at night coming in, bam. It doesn't have quite the adrenaline rush. The other one does. So the other one's faster. Yeah, I want, I want some celebration music. All right. But I like it. I don't hate it. I don't. Yeah, he was, he's going too slow right there.
Starting point is 00:30:43 One person writes, Matt, I was at Roosters, saw you arguing with the two guys. I don't say arguing. Talking. Debating. The fact that the bartender came over lets me think maybe it was a little heated there a little bit. My buddy and I were worried about you, but then I said, just wait, Matt will win them over. And then you did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Yeah, I don't know that they agreed with me, but by the end, we were good. but your best friends by the end? Oh, yeah. They end up talking to them like the whole time. It's the exact opposite. Normally, if I go eat, I don't want to talk to anybody. But I ended up talking to those two dudes the entire meal and enjoyed it. You all going to maybe go out again?
Starting point is 00:31:23 Do roosters again together? I'm good. Like, I got the, I got the, you know, we got it. More in the beginning of like some lifelong bond or anything. I'm sure if I see him again, I'll go, what's up guys? You still were wrong. They never did come around. One of the guys, I think, came around the other one.
Starting point is 00:31:42 He wasn't going to, but it's okay. It doesn't matter. You don't have to always agree. That's the way it goes. Savvy Swords commits to Kentucky, the women's basketball team. Savvy Swords. Shannon, best name in the history of basketball? I would say, definitely.
Starting point is 00:32:01 If not, it's got to be in the top two or three, right? I mean, first of all, her parents named her savvy. They knew what they were doing. That's kind of awesome. Last name is swords. Savvy swords. I don't know if she's good at basketball. I do know she's a top 10 player in America.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Kentucky now has two top 10 women's recruits coming in. Two. We've never had one. And we're going to have two. With a name like that, she's a dual threat. She is a dual threat. No, her and... Oh, because of swords, dual.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Oh, I'm sorry. I was not... Yeah, it took me a minute. It's better in writing when you spell dual different. Yeah, save that for the internet. Yeah. No, but two huge commitments with her in Madden Greenway, who's been committed a while. I mean, I think they're ranked ninth and tenth in the class.
Starting point is 00:32:51 That's kind of exciting. Yeah. You know, every time one of these things happens in UK sports going forward, I'm thinking about the $20.6 million revenue share. And I'm thinking, what is Kentucky showing that they want to be good in? Clearly, to me, Ryan, if you're bringing in two top 10 women's recruits from high school, you are putting money into women's basketball. Yes, you are.
Starting point is 00:33:18 Right? We know they're going to put it into men's basketball and football. Are those the three? A guy made the argument, too, a lot of the UK baseball guys have come back. They think they're putting some money into baseball. So is that what we're doing? It has a huge class, too. Baseball's got the number one portal class.
Starting point is 00:33:36 So is it the case that UK is like, these are the? the four. Yep, I think they have. I think it's obvious now. I've heard that the swim team scholarships, again, this is, I'm not, this isn't scoop, this is scuttle butt, but they are significantly reducing the number of members of that team. Yeah. Have you heard that? No. That's just what I've heard. I don't know if that's true or not, but this may be part of this whole thing, but clearly women's basketball is going to be a focus if you're getting two top 10 women. Yeah, they have two Blue Chip recruits, and one is from Minnesota, and then Savvy Swords is from Canada. So every once in a while you get one that's kind of local and they bring in,
Starting point is 00:34:17 but to get two of the top girls in their class and not even be near Lexington, it's a massive recruiting hall for Kenny Brooks in his first big class. And people say, are we going to be good this coming year? I know we don't have George Amor, but we should be, right? Got the point guard from Wake Forest, I think. That's supposed to come in and really be. And the girl from Liberty. Got a lot of size back, too, with the key, Strak, they have the big three coming back inside. So, you know, it is interesting to me to see how Kentucky decides to distribute money. Every decision going forward, when you see it in any sport,
Starting point is 00:34:55 you have to remember that it plays off what they can do in the other sports. So when you see a huge commitment in women's basketball, that is saying that that must be. Money's got to come from something. Yeah. He's put all that money in the renovation memorial coliseum, so they're going to now invest in their product that plays there, you know? But it will be interesting to see what some sport has to suffer.
Starting point is 00:35:19 We talked about, like, you mentioned swimming. I never hear anything about volleyball, track. Volleyball is the one I worry, wonder about. Yeah. Because we're not hearing anything about volleyball, and that's a team that won a national championship a few years ago. I mean, they're regularly winning the SEC. They're one of the best programs.
Starting point is 00:35:36 It would be interesting to kind of find out where are they on volleyball? Like are they really going to play it? Will we find out the breakdown? Will that come out? I don't know. I don't think so. Well, I'm going to ask Mitch, but I don't know if they will say we spent 3.1. You know, they put their athletics department into a private thing.
Starting point is 00:36:04 but they have committed to still releasing all the money as public records. But will they do it? Yeah. I guess we'll see. They committed when they did it. They said, we will release everything. We'll find out if that's what happens.
Starting point is 00:36:20 If you're the coach at one of those sports, it doesn't get money and you see what money they donate to the other programs. I mean, you've got to wonder, well, then why am I here doing my job if they're not even believing me in my program? You're going to hear a lot of that over the next few years at a lot of schools. Let's go to Jeff. Go ahead, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Hey, guys. Question and a comment, if it pleases the court. Go for it. Questions quick. Any trepidation on Yellovich's activation over here, eligibility? A little bit worried. I mean, not because I know any specific thing about him, but you are seeing more and more stories across the country that the visas,
Starting point is 00:37:02 like schools are very worried. about visas for their international students, that they're not coming as quickly, that it's not as clear what's going to happen. I think, you know, there was supposed to be a basketball tournament over here and like the Senegal women's team, half the players were not able to get visas to even play in it, so they had to withdraw it.
Starting point is 00:37:24 I would assume, I'm going to assume he'll be here until I hear that he's not. But I do think it may not be at Kentucky, but there are going to be schools that are not able to get their players over here. And so I don't know. I would assume if any of them can, it's Kentucky. But we'll see. Yeah, who knows?
Starting point is 00:37:47 But I have not heard anything specific to Yellovich yet. Gotcha. The comment, I want to take the stand that seeking the sharp shooter was a fool's errands. If you look at Kell and Grady, Lamar Wilkerson, and Kobe Brea, they're all slow-footed on defense. They're not three-level scores. They run the shot clock down and get a challenge shot, and the offense kind of gums up versus adding Aberdeen's a dynamic player who still gives you 35% from three. And I think that actually has made us as elite as we could have been in that scenario. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:38:28 We have to wait and see. I mean, maybe I appreciate the call. I'm not going to defame Kell and Grady and Kobe Brea because I think they were both really good for us. Would a different guy have been better who could do more things? I don't know because we don't have a way to compare it. I did see in the NBA draft preview that the Athletic did. They said they were picking Kobe Bray to be draft but said he was quote the worst defender in the entire NBA draft, which sort of confirmed I think our views when we watched that while I loved him, he couldn't guard anyone. literally said worst defender in the draft. Yeah, we can all believe that. A little slow-footed.
Starting point is 00:39:06 Kind of got a little old man to his game now. Those knees aren't what they used to be. But when he can shoot the way he does, he's still getting picked, even though there's not a lot of the defensive. But if you shoot 50% and you're 6-7, because apparently he got measured at the combine at 6-7. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:20 I didn't really process that he was that tall here. Did you? He became a better offensive player all around by the season went on. Defense, it's just, it is what it is. He's not going to get any better. No. You're taking him to be a shooter. And our team, we couldn't guard anybody.
Starting point is 00:39:34 No. That was just the team. That was like this year, it was clear Mark Pope Saul. I can't put a team out there again that doesn't guard anybody. So you look at this year's team, you've got to think Otega is going to take a step up shooting wise. Aberdeen a step up. Lowell step up. All these guys would be better shooters.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Why do you? Why? I mean, why would you say they're going to be better? Guys just seem to get better. You know, their second and third year. and then, you know, and Jasper Johnson may be the best shooter of anybody on the team. That's the thing I don't think anybody really processes is that he's a great shooter. We think of him as this great athlete, but he also can really shoot.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Yeah, Jasper will hopefully be one of their sharp shooters. And Aberdeen forgot the exact number, but he started like five games last year because of injury and shot around 40% when he was the starter playing starter minutes for Florida. So he just hasn't had the full sample size to know what he'll be when he gets here. Yeah. 859-2-80-2287. Text machine is 772-7-7-4-7-4. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Stockton Mortgage, you know, I heard a lot of people talking about the summer of the heat. They need to put a pool in. Guess what? Do a cash-out refinance, and you can use that money, put your pool in your backyard. It's a perfect time to do it. Stockton Mortgage can hold your hand throughout the entire process. There's a lot of paperwork. It can be a hassle, but that's why you need somebody you can trust and depend on.

Stock to Mortgage, NMLS, A259, Equal Housing Lender. Savvy is short for Savannah. I prefer Savvy. Much prefer Savvy. There's a lot of Savannah's in the world. Do you know of any other Savvy's?
Starting point is 00:41:09 No, I don't. Savvy's a cool name. I don't even know any other swords. We need like foam swords in the student section. Savvies. What a great name. Well, take a break. Be right back. KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Starting point is 00:41:23 Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Starting point is 00:42:31 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Starting point is 00:43:12 It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:43:33 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:43:55 Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:44:10 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:44:26 This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office, blue, 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Starting point is 00:44:51 Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. I love the idea of that when they then yelled if we had won if we won football games, but it didn't catch on, mainly because I didn't do it. Just like, what was it, touch me, turn me on, burn me down for third down. I can't believe that one never took off. I can't believe that one didn't work. Wow.
Starting point is 00:45:17 You would think they would all do well, but they didn't shit. Nothing says third down like Marty Stewart. No, that's exactly right. One person writes, Matt, I was listening to ESPN radio this morning and they had your voice come on saying breaking news, Kevin Durant has been traded. I thought it was very cool to hear. Yeah, so I was on the air when Kevin Greene got traded. And so I did the, I went breaking news and they played the little thing and I announced it.
Starting point is 00:45:42 And now they're using it on all their promos. So it's like it's one of the few times I feel like I work there. Did they use Wani and ANA on ESPN too? They do the, what's the ABC News? Brum, bum, bum, bum, bum. Oh, okay. You know, because it's Disney. They own that.
Starting point is 00:45:59 It's way more professional than her. So, yeah, when they do their, you remember from Peter Jennings? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. They do that. I'm with Shannon, though. I think the Wani Nana, you screaming it from the KS Bar is much better. They didn't do that.
Starting point is 00:46:13 But they have me saying, breaking news, Kevin Durant has been traded to the Houston Rockets. And then Norris Cole is my guest. And he goes, ooh. Norris Cole. Miami Heat Legend, Norris Cole. Norris Cole and I are boys. Oh, nice. I reminded him that when he played at Cleveland State,
Starting point is 00:46:30 he was in Rupp Arena and I beat him at paper rock scissors. Okay. Really? He didn't remember. How does that even happen? We were trying to go through a door and it was one of those, you go, no you go, no you go, no you go, no you go, you know. And I said, how about paper rock scissors? And then we did it.
Starting point is 00:46:50 And of course then that led to Myron saying it's rock paper scissors, which is the argument we've had on this show many times before. But Norris didn't remember. I did bring that up to him on the end. But that's cool. You got to have the Kevin Durant moment, one of the biggest trades in recent NBA memory. Got to hear my voice. Thankfully, tomorrow, let you last night, Chen is the last time I think we'll ever see Stephen A on the pregame show. Yeah. For the NBA.
Starting point is 00:47:16 Yeah. I couldn't watch it. It's awful. I couldn't watch it. It was awful. As bad as that show has been, it was worse last night than it's ever been. Agreed. He was screaming at Kendrick Perkins, who was screaming back again.
Starting point is 00:47:28 and then the other guy, what's his name? Bob Myers. Bob Myers goes, you know, just because you yell doesn't make it true, which I thought was a great line by him, by the way. What's going to happen when they put him out there with Shaq and Barclay and all those guys? I mean, they're not going to. He will be, there will be a revolt if they do that. They can't do that.
Starting point is 00:47:49 They're going to. But they can't. They're going to. They can't. They can't. They can't. They can't. He will ruin it.
Starting point is 00:47:58 They cannot. put him on that show. I will drive to Bristol myself. I have a key card. Oh my. You've driven to Bristol many times. I've driven to Bristol. I have a key card. I will go in and start yelling at people. You cannot put Stephen A on that show. I remember when we were there with you, we walked by Stephen A's office. I know exactly where it is. We'll go knock on the door. I mean, why would you want to screw it up? If you have Seinfeld, you don't say let's just put Bobcat Goldwaith on it. Sinfeld already works. You don't need to screw it up.
Starting point is 00:48:30 But you know they're going to do it. The only thing that'll save it is if Barclay and Shaq just pick on him and bully him into a locker every time he's on there. Well, they will. That will make it a little bit entertaining. But to be better off without him. If they put him on there, it'll backfire. People will revolt. But they put him on every single show every day.
Starting point is 00:48:49 But that's because in part they've never had good shows. They have a good show. Don't screw it up. One of the best sports shows ever. No, it is the best sports show. Yeah. What are the best sports shows? If you're looking in the last 25 years, is it inside the NBA and PTI?
Starting point is 00:49:09 PTI, definitely. Those are the two. Yeah. Is there any other one? Game day. College game day. I would put game day on there. I put that in there.
Starting point is 00:49:17 Football game day. Not basketball. Yeah, that's what I mean. Yeah. College football game day. Would you put anything else with those three? Not to that level. I love me some good morning football.
Starting point is 00:49:28 You got some what? Don't say Gilbert Arena. Or don't say Gilbert Arena's his show. Mario loves Gilbert Arena's his stupid YouTube show. Don't put that on there. But those are the three. Right there. Doing great.
Starting point is 00:49:44 Go ahead. Hey, Matt. Quick comment. Hopefully they don't bring Screaming A on that show. That would certainly ruin it. But my question for you guys today is, what do you think is more likely to happen? UK wins the national championship in basketball.
Starting point is 00:50:01 this upcoming season or UK makes the college football playoff in the next 15 years. Basketball up to coming upcoming season. I mean, I can't pick UK to make a college football playoff. I appreciate the call. I mean, we've only come close. Well, we've never come close because they changed the format. But if you still have the new format, we would have only come close once. And that was the year we had five guys get drafted in the first three rounds.
Starting point is 00:50:29 And I just don't see that happening. And so yes, I would think it's more likely we win the basketball title this year than the other. I agree. And if you're doing gambling odds, Kentucky's 17 to 1 to win the title right now. We would be like 80 to 100 to 1 to make a playoff. It's to make the – it's to win the title. We're not going to win the title this year, I don't think, but we're going to win one in the next three years. And we are not going to make a college football playoff.
Starting point is 00:50:54 I'd like to, but I don't think it will happen. In basketball, you're in the conversation. You're one of five teams going to this next year, the table. being talked about football. No one is thinking about them. Unfortunately. We do that once a year.
Starting point is 00:51:51 We're going to do it on Wednesday. We have homework, Ron. People usually get mad at us by the end of the show. When we say something that people get mad about. But you know what? You all need to do your homework. I just made a note my calendar. Shannon, you need to do your homework.
Starting point is 00:52:03 Mario, I'm going to have you do one, two. Unpopular opinion. You understand the premise? Something you believe. We haven't done this in two years because I was gone last summer. That'll be on Wednesday on Popular Opinion Day. So mark your calendars. We will take a break for 22 hours and see you next time.
