Starting point is 00:02:28 Comedy Up, Broadway opened in downtown Lexington in 1980, and they're still bringing the best and stand-up comedy to the area 38 years later. Call 859-271 joke or visit ComedyoffBroadway.com. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. I am Matt Jones here in Woodford County, Kentucky, just outside of Versailles at the new High Bramble Park. Harness racing has come to Woodford County. I had no idea this was here. Chances are, you listening?
Starting point is 00:03:03 You didn't know either, but you can find out by going on Painsmill Road just past the Bluegrass Parkway. You can give a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-2-80-2287. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-745-254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith-Lawes. If you call T.J., he'll make them pay. We are on the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety, KSR, safe summer driving tour around Kentucky, and we're not far from Lexington, but I have to tell you, it's always a lot of, cool to get to know what's going on. High Bramble Park, a harness racing track being built in Woodford County, and by being built,
Starting point is 00:03:41 it looks like might have been finishing like today. Opens on Saturday as part of the Woodford County Fair, Ryan Lemon. You are, hopefully, when the show is over, going to be riding around on one of these harness racing, I don't know, what do you call them? Carts? A sulky. It's a sulky? That's the proper term, a sulky.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Is it really? Yeah. I did not know it was a sulky where you're going to be sulking around in just a little bit. How about this place just right outside of Lexington close to Keenland? Massive facility they're about to have out here. And like you said, you're driving down Versailles Road. 99% of the people have no idea this is out here off Painsmill Road. The first horse just got on the track a week ago because the weather kind of delayed their construction.
Starting point is 00:04:23 So that's how new this facility is. They've got expansion plans coming up. A lot of horse barns up already, but they're going to build a horse barns in the back on the side. It's going to be massive when they get finished. All right, so let me, first of all, if you would like to come join us today, a lot of you wrote me, this ain't the easiest place to find. It will be because it will be on Apple Maps, but it's not yet. So you can get it on waves, but what you just put in P-A-Y-N-E, Paines Mill Road and turn off Versailles Road, and you will be able to find it. And then you just drive back here, and here it is.
Starting point is 00:04:56 And it's a beautiful facility. It opens on Saturday, July 5th, starting at 1230. You'll be able, let me tell you what you can get set out. All right, tell me. You can not only get free gourmet bites or some gourmet bites, not free. Food trucks, kids can play with inflatables, and there are some Kentucky artists playing George Moulton, and then Kyle Eldridge and the Kentucky Calhands, which is a good name. You know, we have the Appalachian heathens from Middlesboro and America's Got Talent, and now you got the cowhands here at High Bramble Park. It's going to be a huge day Saturday out here for the part of the Woodford County Fair.
Starting point is 00:05:34 28 races they're going to have out here on the trail. That's a lot of races. 28 races. That's a lot of races. Where are all these horses? Are they just going to have the same horses race 28 times and see which one can hang in there? They're in the training room right now, getting rub down and ice treatment and massages. They're going to need it.
Starting point is 00:05:48 We're 28 races on Saturday. The Woodford County Fair is it's Woodford County Fair leg of the Kentucky Proud Series. You know, OVW Wrestling, we've done the, we've done the, Woodford County Fair a lot. It's always been a good event, and this weekend, part of the 4th of July. We know, really right now in Kentucky, the only harness racing that is active is at Red Mile. Is there none? I don't think that's right. There's other. There's like the, they said Marion County Fair has theirs, and there's one down in Western Kentucky. Close. What was the... Oak Grove? Why did you say it was the only was the man of war? Because the one at Red Mile is kind of the main
Starting point is 00:06:24 harness in Kentucky. This one is going to be like a rival facility. And I think this one is going to be bigger and better than that one. Oh, a rival? Yes. Look at you starting the rivalry already. Well, you know, if Red Miles is number one right now, guess what? High Ramble Park is coming. We're coming after you.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Well, we got free coffee. We got free donuts here as well today. So come on out and see us. Just turn on Paines Mill Road. Ryan, last night, I told you I drove from New York City back to Kentucky, which is a long drive. And I actually had to get back in time to do ESPN at 7th. o'clock at night. So that was, drove a little bit of it the night before, went to Hagerstown, Maryland. Not the most beautiful city in the world. It is a city, but drove through massive rainstorms.
Starting point is 00:07:12 West Virginia has been under construction since 1983 and is still under construction. They seem to never get it fixed, but pulled in, got here, did ESPN last night, and now happy to be with you today. I was actually a little worried about you because the weather was so bad. It's awful. They canceled all the, a lot of the flights in Philadelphia, New York were being canceled and I thought I thought you kind of flew up there I didn't know you drove yeah I was I had other plans but you know what we had to make it to high Bramble Park so we did that's right but uh but it was that's a beautiful drive but it is not beautiful when it is absolutely pouring rain uh you said you saw a couple accidents even I saw one one bad accident guy crawled through the window to get out whoa I went over
Starting point is 00:07:53 it was I mean the guy looks like he's okay so I can say it's funny now he wrecks in front of me he like he tries to merge over there's somebody there so he kind of loses control of his car and he flips and when you see it i was like oh no so it's pouring rain right and uh i'm i'm about to pass it and the car's there and i'm thinking well i mean you can't just leave the car like you got to be like a good citizen he's in that car he or she and it doesn't look good and it had a trailer on the back so i pull over but then it occurs to me when I get to the car, I'm going to have no idea what to do. Like, there's going to be, I'm really not going to be able to help the situation at all.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And then as I'm walking up to the car, rain pouring down, dude like climbs out of the, of the, of the passenger, of the driver's window, and he's fine, except for the fact that he just wrecked his car. You'd probably need to think his guardian angel could sound like that was awful. That's usually when situations do end very, very badly. All right. So we have a lot of stuff we want to get to. but first I want to bring Mario up here. Mario, I want you to come here because this is, the first story I think is in undoubtedly,
Starting point is 00:09:06 I need a young person on the show moment. So yesterday, I get these little news alerts on my phone, and a news alert comes that says YouTube basketball sensation jessor to join La Familia for the TBT tournament. And lots of those words. words did not mean anything to me. I don't know what it means to be a YouTube basketball sensation, and I don't know who Jesser is. But I've learned that Jesser is a 26-year-old YouTube star with 31 million followers, and he is going to play with the Kentucky alumni basketball team.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Now, you are also that age. Were you excited to hear about Jesser? Yes, I was. I was surprised a little bit at first, but overall, man, I'm really ecstatic. see him in a lot of familiar jersey it's going to be incredible now i'm going to guess 95% of the people listen this show either don't know who he is or if they do don't understand why he's on the team so explain to explain to old people what it is that jessor why he why it matters well first first of all he's not a professional basketball player but he could ball a little more reason did not be on the team he can ball a little bit okay what that's not it's more than the average person i would say. Okay, I would hope so. I think LaFamilia's way of bringing him in was more of an exposure thing.
Starting point is 00:10:31 They want to use his following. They know that, you know, him just being there. So he's not good at basketball? He's not terrible. That's not a good sign. He's not terrible. Compared to the guys on LaFamilia, he's, I'm not going to say he's a professor. Is he as good as the Harrison twins? No. No. Is he as good as anyone on the team? Probably not. No, he's a level lower, I would say. He's a level Now, he did play in the NBA Celebrity All-Star game. I saw him take Kane Brown to the hoop. Oh, well, he took Kane Brown to the hoop. Okay, all right, so, I mean, well, I didn't realize he took Kane Brown to the hoop.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Okay, sorry. Let me take it back. So what will he do on the team? Will he get to play? Of course. What do you mean, of course? You just said he wasn't good. They're up by 20.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I mean, when they're up by 20, like, they might throw them in for the Elon ending. You know, have, you know. The Elon ending? I think that's something different. No, they, it's. They'll have him in, Elam ending. They'll have him in there. You know, they might sub them in.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Who knows if he competes? Showwoods might play him. I don't know. Okay. All right. So what is he famous for? So he does, he's a content creator on YouTube. He does all sorts of videos.
Starting point is 00:11:41 But like what? What does he do? Does he have a talent? Content creation. He's created. But that's not a talent. What does he do in the content? It's his personality, I would say.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Little kids love him. I've heard that. Bull kids love him. But I'm going to ask you again. What does he do? He commentates. He talks about stuff. It's really his personality.
Starting point is 00:12:02 He has a bright personality that likes it. So you like him. Yeah, I like him. And you think it's a good addition. I think it's a great edition. All right, now, Ryan, do you, does it bother you at all that this is Lafamilia, the Kentucky basketball team? And we have Jesser, the YouTube star.
Starting point is 00:12:18 I ask you, before we started, should I be embarrassed? I don't know who Jesser is or was. No, you should not. Well, let me ask you. Be honest. How many people in here. when they heard the announcement yesterday, knew who Jesser was. Hey, there he is.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Two people. Three people. All right, so three people knew who he was. That sort of confirms my 95% wouldn't. So, no, I didn't know either. Well, Sean Woods was on the show yesterday, and he hinted and kind of teased us. There was another guy getting ready to come out. So I was getting all these messages.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I hope it's John Wall. I hope it's Boogie Cousin. Hope it's Darius Miller. And it's a guy YouTube star that I've never heard of in my life. Okay, so. It's not a bad thing. I think it's going to be great. I think it's going to be great.
Starting point is 00:12:57 I think it's going to be great. People are going to be in those seats. Okay, so they offered, just so you know, Law Familia offered us to have Jesser on the show today. And I said, I'd like to have Jester on the show, but I'm going to need some time to learn what to say to this person or who he is. So we couldn't do it today. So when I have Jesser on the show, Mario,
Starting point is 00:13:18 what in the world am I going to ask this kid? You ask him, how does it feel to, first of all, you ask him, how did this happen? Like, how did you get? Well, do you know how it happened? You're the person that has all that info. I know he has connections with Willie Collie Stein. Yeah, they're friends.
Starting point is 00:13:33 So apparently he and Willie Collie Stein play video games together, right? They do videos. He's had him on numerous amounts of videos that Jesser has made. Okay. They have a big strong thing. And then what else would you ask Jesser? Since you're the one that told me to have him on? Yeah, I would ask him, like, what's your goal?
Starting point is 00:13:48 Do you think, are you here to compete? Are you going to be, like, trying to obviously play? I know everybody wants to play for this one million. dollar prize, but like, are you trying to get minutes? Let me ask you this. Is it good for UK basketball that he will be on? Do you think it will make it? Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Yeah, it's great. It's something different. It's something different. I was telling Billy earlier. I said, when's the last time we had a content creator suit up in a TBT tournament game? Hopefully never. That's history, though, man. I love it.
Starting point is 00:14:16 It's history. It's something different. Listen to you, it's history. It's something different, man. The TVT tournaments issued. It's been around for like four years. And they're killing it, man. This is history.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Do you feel it? No. Do you feel the history? No, not at all. Obviously, they've got their squad. This guy's got PR and marketing. It's the greatest moment in UK basketball history to surpassed the 2010 NBA draft to become the greatest moment in UK basketball history. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Well, I'm glad you're here to give us that info. And Ryan, this will be, I do think I saw videos last night. on TikTok of kids excited that he's on it. And so if kids like it, and it'll do, like, make UK fans that are kids excited, then I'm talking about it. I think you should watch some of his videos on YouTube, man. I won't. I won't. But I saw one yesterday.
Starting point is 00:15:08 I think he took a bunch of, like, elementary school kids, and he played a bunch of senior citizens in a game of basketball. And he was like, actually now I would watch that. That's good content. Yeah. Really? They had kids play senior citizens. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Yeah, and he was like in the middle of it and kind of commentating during the game. Well, I'd be honest with you, that does sound interesting to me. Who won? I didn't watch that much of it. I didn't get to the end. There you go, Matt. You go watch tonight. You know what?
Starting point is 00:15:31 You've won me over. Little kids versus old people in a basketball game. Sounds actually really fascinating to me. How old are we talking? They were elementary kids. How were the senior citizens? Oh, they were probably in their 60s and 70s. They were a lot of them were gray, but they were talking smack with each other.
Starting point is 00:15:49 All right. Now, this sounds great. I've completely flipped on Jesser. Little. kids versus senior citizens in a basketball game. Are most of his content surrounding basketball? For the most part. NBA 2K, you know, basketball.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Yeah, I would say that. All right. Well, all right. So UK basketball, continuing the tradition of being on the forefront of everything. Thank you very much, Mario. I appreciate it. Now, that's not the only way in which, yeah, give him a round of applause. That's not the only way.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Mario's going to go ride around on a horse and sussie. Sulkie. Sulkie. Mitch Barnhart gave an interview yesterday that did not get a lot of attention that I think is actually very interesting talking about the future of UK sports. And I know sometimes talking about the money and all that is boring. But I do want to talk about what he said because I was surprised by it. And I think it will be important going forward.
Starting point is 00:16:47 We will do that here at High Bramble Park, Inver Sales. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies,
Starting point is 00:17:08 and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsLice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsClyce on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kier Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
Starting point is 00:18:19 you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Open your free, our heart radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliver Show, I'm bringing you. conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Starting point is 00:18:59 hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the I-Heart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:19:20 Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
Starting point is 00:19:45 We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted. this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fingers why he got the bar like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the
Starting point is 00:20:20 court and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at High Bramble Park. Perfect day for a live show outdoors. Not too hot. We're under a tent.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Got merchandise, got food. Mario's about to get on a sulky. He is on a sulky right now. He's going to take a ride around the track. That's kind of exciting, isn't it? Have you ever done that? You ever been in a sulky on a hornet race? Hornet?
Starting point is 00:20:52 On a hornet race? No, or a harness race. No, it's, I have not. Looks kind of fun. How fast do they go? That's it. That's pretty much it. There's pacers and there's trotters.
Starting point is 00:21:03 They're trying to tell me. Pacers lead with their left leg and front fore arm at the same time. Trotters do opposite leg at a time. I like watching you act it out. So are these pacer's or are these trotters? Yes. Okay. So they have both?
Starting point is 00:21:19 They have both? They have both? that one looks like that's got to be a tetrotter. Wow, though, they're making some speed. Mario, when he grew up in New York, I bet that's what he thought he would be doing at some point. 859-2-80-2287. Text machine, 772-745-254.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Before we go to the phones, I want to read one thing. All right, so Mitch Barnhart did an interview with CBS, where they asked him about this whole Champions Blue thing that he started, the kind of new private entity that they're doing for UK athletics. and apparently a lot, he was kind of on the forefront of this, and a lot of colleges are trying to decide whether to copy. But let me give you, I want to give you some quotes that I think fans will find interesting and maybe like.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Mitch Barnhart said, you know, look, we got to raise $20.5 million in revenue to pay these players now, and it's different than what it used to be. And here's what they said. We are not going to our fan base and saying, hey, our expenses have gone up, we need more money. That is not fair to our fan base. And frankly, it's not going to be viable in our state. Our opportunities because of population are not as many. So they have decided to do, and he says, public-private partnerships will be really important for us. We're going to take the area around our football stadium, and there are opportunities in that land space for us to do things to create
Starting point is 00:22:41 a relationship with local businesses that want to be a part of us. Businesses can incorporate our football stadium itself. There are opportunities for hotel, motel lodging. We don't have any on campus now, and they can partner and make it happen around the football stadium. There also can be restaurants and shopping, and this is a way for us to raise revenue in order to meet the new requirements. Potentially hotels, motels around the stadium, restaurants and shopping, that land is owned by UK and basically UK athletics, and they're saying, we will create a commercial situation that basically funds these increased costs of UK athletics. What do you make of that?
Starting point is 00:23:25 I understand they have to raise this money somehow. I mean, they've got to do something, right? But immediately I'm hearing fans like, man, they're just taking more of our tailgate space away. There's more, you know, more and more of it just keeps disappearing, disappearing. That's why I go to the UK football games. The tailgate visit with my family and friends and then go to the game, and they're keeping it away from us. So what would be better? I mean, I will say, I'm very skeptical.
Starting point is 00:23:48 I think a hotel actually on campus will do really well. I mean, one of the odd things about University of Kentucky is our hotels are not really close to the campus at all. They're either downtown or they're out on the edges of town. That hotel next to KS Bar, that holiday inn is like the only hotel that's anywhere close to campus. So actually thinking having a hotel, I actually think that can really work. I'm very skeptical about how whether restaurants can work there for a variety of reasons. but what else do we want them to do if we don't want them to raise ticket prices i agree with you about the tailgate scene but i'll be honest with you i think they already ruined that and i don't think
Starting point is 00:24:31 it's coming back like i think they the day they took that grass out and they ain't going to all a sudden go why don't we just start taking less parking spots and putting grass in the day they took that out they ruined it if they're going to ruin it how about we at least make something for people to do over there. I guess I understand that. That's better than raising ticket prices, isn't it? Yeah, as I said, they've got to do something. And we've seen it work like, you know, the Reds have that kind of their little area close to the stadium. The Cardinals have something outside of Bush Stadium. But the problem for Kentucky football is, so the Reds have that area out of the stadium, but guess how many home games you have a year for the Reds? A lot more
Starting point is 00:25:07 in football. You have 81 home games. Then you have another 10 Bengals games. Now you're at 91. UK football games, the basketball arena is not in the same place. Right? So at Tennessee, the basketball arena and the football stadium are close enough next to each other. But at Como Stadium, there's eight games a year. At most, this year there's only seven. He did say he wants to have more concerts like Tyler Childers, that they would bring in more and more concerts.
Starting point is 00:25:34 That's good. You know, I kind of, I love really what Kentucky's doing with their athletic complex, with the baseball field, the softball field, the soccer field, the football field, all kind of there together. but there's not a lot of area for like, you know, student used that area for parking. You know, you keep taking that stuff away. It's just going to get kind of more and more of a lock jam during on game days. What I took away from Barnhart's interview is that all of us with UK fans have to realize.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Kentucky, the university has a choice. If they want to compete in sports, he's right. We're not a big enough state. Like, we're not Ohio state. We can't just, we don't have 20 million people that live in this. state, right? We have to figure out creative ways. I don't know if this will be what will work or not, but I do like that they're trying something. You know, what's our population of Kentucky? Just for, just for comparison sake, what's the population? It's like $5.5.5 million?
Starting point is 00:26:30 4.5. Okay. Do you know what the population of New York City is? It's $8 million, right? So that's one city that has almost double the population of us. If we are going to be able to compete, they're going to have to do things like this. You said it. They have to do something. And you don't want to raise ticket prizes and keep gouging there. Our fan base, don't donate more money, more money, more money. They have to do something.
Starting point is 00:26:55 And maybe this may be the only option they've got. I do appreciate Barnhart, to me, was always behind on NIO. I do appreciate that now it's in, they are like, we're going to be the leader, we're not going to be a follower. and I actually think that's positive. Who's up next? Kelly. Kelly, go ahead, Kelly. Hey, had two quick questions, one fairer foul.
Starting point is 00:27:17 So I'm going to the Kentucky Gonzaga game in Nashville. Yes. And I was planning on wearing a hoodie down there, but the hoodie has the checkerboard emblem on it. If it's all you got, if it's all you got, I'm okay with it. But if you can get some- It's not, but it's the best quality that I have. Yeah. Well, you got to decide. Do you want to have good quality or do you want to look like a dork? It's up to you.
Starting point is 00:27:44 It's up to you. No, I'm just kidding. Listen, the checker board is fine. It's now that it's not the official uniforms, the shirt can almost be retro. So I'm good with it. What's your other question? If you saw the rest of my attire, you would know I've never really shot away from looking like a dork. The other thing is, right, right. The other thing is I root for the Cleveland Browns. in football in addition to Kentucky. Both of those teams are probably going to suck this year. Yeah. Is it a fair or is this foul to adopt the Buffalo Bills as my second favorite team,
Starting point is 00:28:19 given that they have Harrison, Walker, and Davis? Well, I mean, you can root for those guys. But if you're going to, my view is if you're going to adopt the new team, they got to stink when you adopt them. You cannot adopt a team when they're doing well. And the bills are good now. So can you root for the UK guys? But you cannot be a Bills fan.
Starting point is 00:28:39 You've got to adopt the team. Can't root for the entire team. That's exactly right. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, here at Hyde Bramble Park. Saturday, 1230, bring your family. It is free and open the public.
Starting point is 00:28:56 The grand opening of the harness racing track here in Woodford County and for sales. It's going to be a beautiful place already great. Mario and Billy have been riding around on a sussie. Yep, sulky. Sulkie. And it's. It's a beautiful day, not too hot yet. Fake David Beckham just let me know that UK raised their prices on football and basketball tickets today.
Starting point is 00:29:17 So the timing for me saying they wouldn't do that was not great, but I wasn't aware of that. So, I mean, some of that's probably to be expected, but we'll see. I don't know that raising tickets on football this year is the greatest decision in the world, but we'll find out. So when you're telling the story, I immediately start thinking, where are they going to do this? They want to build it by the stadium. Okay, where? I can't really picture where it's going to be either. I mean, without just taking the entire.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I mean, if it were my money, okay, so if it were my money, having been in the restaurant business and in the restaurant business, I would not want to put a restaurant where they're going. I definitely would want to put a hotel because I do think a hotel would kill it right there. I mean, I think a hotel just like when parents come and visit their kids, you know, just that. that football, like I think a hotel there, the city could use a hotel there. First of all, there's not a hotel rooms in the city to begin with. And then you put some there, I think that would kill it. You know, they had that hotel there at the corner of Waller and Nicholasville Road,
Starting point is 00:30:22 but they closed many, many years ago. So you're right, there's really nothing around the area. It's a different city now than it was. Absolutely. You know, it's a little bit of a different city. By the way, we do have some breaking news. This isn't, I'm not, this is it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:35 I was going to not do it. that for this one. But Pete Diddy found guilty on two of the five counts in his federal charges. The two he's found guilty of prostitution related charges, but the more serious ones, the ones that
Starting point is 00:30:52 could have kept him in jail for the rest of his life racketeering and a couple of the others he's actually found not guilty of. So probably for him a little bit of a win. Could have been a lot worse. Kind of had a cliffhanger yesterday. They came back and said that we've got a verdict on four of the five charges.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Judge says get back in the deliberation room. That's interesting. They said they had a verdict on four of the five, but then when they gave the verdict, three, well, I guess they could have had a verdict on four and they were split on which one. But either way, he's in jail, but he got a lot less than he could have gotten
Starting point is 00:31:29 if he had gotten the sex trafficking and the RICO. Okay, 859-28027. Do you have what I was going to play there? Yes, sir. I'll come back to this. Who's up next? Jake. Jake, go ahead, Jake.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Hi, I just wanted to call in and give you some background info on that jester that committed to LaFamilia. Go for it. He started out as a 2K YouTuber. He was playing the game, 2K, and kind of blew up and got his name out there. And now he's just a basketball content creator, like Mario said. He plays 1V1s. He'll play in some 5V5 games and stuff like that. I've been watching them for years.
Starting point is 00:32:07 I think he will surprise all of you guys in the tournament. No. I mean, I will say. You don't think so. Well, I mean, he's playing against Duke. Like, there's a difference between a guy who's good down at the YMCA or even a guy who's good in high school and Willie Collie Stein, right? But he will hit the open shots if they find him. Okay, but, I mean, first of all, he'll hit the open shot. Let's see if he'll hit the open shot when a 610 dude is flying at him with that.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Like, there's a difference between hitting the open shot and hitting the open shot when Montrez Harold is talking trash in front of 15,000 people. That's a different thing. I hear you, but I'm going to call back when he averages 20. Let me tell you something. What's this guy's name? What's this guy's name, John? This is Jake.
Starting point is 00:32:59 Jake, I'll go farther. If he averages 10 throughout the tournament, 10, I'll give you $1,000. dollars. Oh. That's a bet. I will shake on that for sure. But if he doesn't, if he doesn't, you owe me $20. So I'm giving you basically 50 to one odds.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Okay? Are you in? Sounds good. I'm in. All right. Take his number there, John. Because he's paying me my $20 when he doesn't average 10 points a day. You're Mr. Moneybags, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:33:37 I just want you. your $20. You're giving me free $20. So go ahead. Take his money right there. All right, hang on. Maybe you should watch that video of him taking Kane Brown before you go spending off all your money on this sort of thing. Well, if he took Kane Brown, would you take that bet? No, I don't think he'll get 10 minutes a game, let alone average 10 points. You said it. These guys played in the NBA. Even Doran Lamb played in the NBA. Take the worst dude on Lafamilia, and he would come to your pickup game and wreck everyone that's playing. Okay?
Starting point is 00:34:11 I don't know who our worst player is, but take the worst one, whoever it is, and he would wreck everybody. I had a guy during the break said he, Jester made a good video of basketball playing the squid games. He took the squid games and made a version of basketball. Well, somebody did send me that it's apparently 10-year-olds versus 70-year-olds. I am watching that. I do think that has a potential to be very entertaining.
Starting point is 00:34:35 So Bobby Bones, you know Bobby Bones, the radio host. Oh, yeah, definitely. A friend of mine, like Bobby Bones. But he did a video a couple days ago on his, he does a sports show where he ranked the five most annoying fan bases in sports. He had the Philadelphia Eagles number four. He had the Yankees. He had Duke basketball and he had Tennessee football. And then he got to number one and he said this.
Starting point is 00:35:03 the number one most annoying fan base in all of sports is and they show up by the hundreds and it's like a virus that takes over wherever they're going into and it's Kentucky basketball oh man and let's say there are 10,000 Kentucky basketball fans if I were to do the math 6 teeth
Starting point is 00:35:24 come by carry the one yeah there you go all right so Bobby Bones I have a message to Bobby Bones. You know, Bobby, I like you. But first of all, when you say hundreds of Kentucky fans, let's change that to thousands or tens of thousands.
Starting point is 00:35:46 I know you're used to being in Arkansas where collectively you have 40 to 60 people in the state who care about it, but in Kentucky it's a different thing. Secondly, Bobby, you're a great radio host, but you also do stand-up comedy. I've seen you do stand-up comedy. I went, it was very nice. The 10,000 people's six-teeth joke is why we don't know you for stand-up comedy and we actually
Starting point is 00:36:09 know you for being a music, DJ. It's a very terrible joke. But let me just say this. There's nothing wrong and there's no reason for you to be angry that you got our coach after we wanted rid of him. You have him, that's nice. In his first year, he had gotten NBA draft picks for 15 straight years, comes to Arkansas, the street breaks.
Starting point is 00:36:28 In his first year, he goes to Arkansas and he ends up with. less draft picks than Mark Pope, who replaced him at Kentucky. It is okay for you to be hurt by the fact that your programs are not as good as Kentucky's. But those shots, I will not allow. I would rank the five most annoying fan bases, but Arkansas would not make it because there are a fan base that isn't even on my radar because there's a fan base that we don't know anything about. So take Duke basketball, yes.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Tennessee football, yes. You want to throw the Yankees in? Yes. You want to throw the Eagles in? Yes. Guess what the common denominator of all those? Programs or franchises that matter. The one that doesn't is the Arkansas Razorbacks, which is why you're not on the list. Well done. Well said. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped. up in the chase, that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still
Starting point is 00:38:35 chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about on healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Search Learn the hard way and listen now. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:39:24 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:39:43 Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to work. win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:40:03 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:40:28 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quinn, and Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:40:48 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Hambrat High Bramble Park. You can learn more if you go to High High. Bramblepark.com. Learn more about the beautiful racing facility out here, and they have a lot of sponsors this weekend for the opening. It's at 1230 on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Hope folks come out and enjoy this new facility in the Lexington area. Yeah, 28 races on Saturday, part of the County Fair series, where it's going to be some of the harness racers from across the state are going to come here and compete on Saturday right here on this track. One person writes, Matt, you are wrong about Jesser. You're going to end up paying that bet. can ball. Another person says, Matt, I play with Daniel Orton pickup. He can't even get time on TBT and no one can score against him in our game. Jesser stands no chance. Mario, you're a
Starting point is 00:41:44 Jesser advocate, just like you're a Bronny advocate. Will he score more than 10 points a game? No. Okay. That's why I feel very confident. I don't think he'll play more than 10 minutes a game. Yeah, I think that's very unlikely. Big weekend, or actually big day today for my Cincinnati. Maddie Reds. Okay, they have a double header today. They're down one-nothing in the first game. It got rained out after the third inning. Play two games against the Red Sox. We got us, I'm sitting, I'm already scheduled watching, all right? We got a split at least. If we win them both, that's great, but we can't lose them both. I feel like if we lose them both, I might have to be back out on the Red So we need to make sure we, we need to make sure we at least win one of them today against
Starting point is 00:42:27 the Red Sox. I'm glad you're talking about the Reds because I did want to ask you, how did your boy Chase Burns do the other night. Didn't have a good game. Didn't have a good game. Only got one out the entire game. Didn't make it out of the first inning. You got a red's hat on back there. Did you see the, the Red Sox broadcast says they think he was tipping his pitches so that he was doing something that let the Red Sox know what he was about to throw accidentally. So they showed the Red Sox would be like in the on deck circle, they were whispering. And the Red Sox announcer said, we don't want to say what it is, but it looks like he's tipping his pitches. Terry Francona was asked about after the game. He wouldn't say yes, but he kind of insinuated. We got to work on that with him. So maybe he was accidentally telling him what he was going to throw before he threw.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Makes sense because it was batting practice, man. They were just teeing off on him. I think I saw a stat where he only threw one strike because they hit everything else that was a strike. Yeah. But this is a big thing. We cannot lose both of these. If we lose both of them, I might have to be back out. And I don't want to be out because they're a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:43:29 I really enjoy them, but I might have to be back. back out of it. She's got a Reds purse right there even. Look at that. You have a Reds purse. Well, that's actually, uh, that's actually very nice. I've, I've, I've enjoyed, I've enjoyed watching them this year so much. And the good thing is they're young. Even if, even if it doesn't work out this year, they've got a couple more years. Like, they pretty much have everybody good, locked up under contract. They got a chance to be good for the next couple years. I did see Spencer Steer, I think was the major league baseball player of the week because he had three home runs in one game. Yeah. Yeah. Spencer Steer, uh, been, been, been, been,
Starting point is 00:44:01 been doing well. I never, so I have a rule of thumb when somebody passes away, every single person deserves at least a minute of either saying something nice about them or don't say anything at all. So I'm not going to violate this. But I do have to note that one of my favorite things to say, the person that said it, passed away. Jimmy Swaggered, the minister when I was a child, the tele-evangelist who was when I was a kid, you guys would know, I was on TV all the time. Like he was, it was like when you thought of evangelist, Billy Graham was number one. He was kind of the classy one. And then there was like Jim Baker and Jimmy Swagger.
Starting point is 00:44:46 And I was shocked like two years ago to learn that Jim Baker and Jimmy Swagger were even still alive. I had no idea there. Jim Baker is still alive. Wow. But Jimmy Swaggart passed away 90 years old. If you want, you can look. He had a very checkered history. But he also said the line that you've heard me do that impression I can do,
Starting point is 00:45:04 which I'm not going to do in front of everybody because it puts me on the spot, but the I have sinned against you, my Lord, which is one of my favorite videos of all time. Sorry to see, though, even though he was a little bit of a crook and a con man, it was sorry to see that he passed away at 90 years old. You're right. There was a time that a lot of us remember Billy Graham, Jimmy Sweden. I have sinned against you, my Lord. There it is. There it is.
Starting point is 00:45:27 I thought you weren't going to do it. Sorry, I just said. I forgot. Oh, I know I was going to say. There was a time when one of those three guys had a show. We all watched it, man. We didn't have cable television. He had those three networks, and it was on.
Starting point is 00:45:41 I remember sitting with my parents watching Jimmy Swagger. My grandma was very surprised. She goes, I remember she asked me when I was a little kid. And you got to remember, I was like nine or something, 10. And she looked at me and she goes, do you think Jimmy Swaggart did that? And I mean, I didn't really. really know what that meant. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:46:02 At 9 or 10 years old. But he was apologizing for it. He said he sinned against his Lord. I assume he probably did it. But rest in peace to Jimmy Swagger. Who's next? Dallas. Dallas.
Starting point is 00:46:14 Go ahead, Dallas. Hey, Matt, what's going on, brother? What's up? Well, I was just wanting to know what do you think the starting five for basketball is going to be? And do you think the football team is going to make a ball game this year? No, on the second one. So, I mean,
Starting point is 00:46:35 Oh, my gosh. Is that surprise you? Yeah, I think we got some good transfers and guys coming in this year. All right, well, I like the positivity. How many wins do you think we're going to have? Lord, I'd say six and six. We'll barely, we'll make that Liberty Bowl or something. Well, listen, if we make, if we're six and six with the schedule we have
Starting point is 00:47:00 and make the Liberty Bowl. I think, honestly, that's a success, to be quite frank with you. I do think it's worth noting. I appreciate the call that they flipped a receiver yesterday. A four-star receiver flipped from Auburn to Kentucky. I mean, since Vince left, you do have to say that the recruiting, they've gone from two commitments to 12 in the course of like a week and a half. I don't know who this guy is, but I heard Tom Leach talking about this morning.
Starting point is 00:47:28 Apparently, you know, Ole Miss wanted him. This is a player. This is the best commitment they've got so far. I believe it might be the best commitment. That guy and the right tackle they got that came in from New Mexico State. Those may be the leaders in the transfer portal class. So let's talk about basketball for a second. Jalen Lowe, so Jalen Lowe said that he thought this Kentucky team had the lineup to play for a national championship.
Starting point is 00:47:53 He said we will have the best back court in the country, best back court in the country. And then he went through and said, Trent Noah is the best shooter that he's ever seen in his life. Wow. Said he, in all of his playing basketball, nobody better than Trent Noah. So the question was, what do we think the starting lineup would be? I'm still going Jalen Lowe. I'm now switching. I had Jasper Johnson.
Starting point is 00:48:18 I'm going to switch and go Denzel Aberdeen. I watched Jasper Johnson a little bit in the team USA. I still think he's going to be really good. He's probably a notch below where I thought. thought he was, so I'm going to put him at like the six man, and I'll switch to what you and Drew had with Aberdeen, and then go O'Way, Mohamed Diabate
Starting point is 00:48:36 and Brandon Garrison. Do you have any difference from that? No, I think until Jaden Quaidant gets healthy, that's the starting lineup. I think that's exactly who they go with, and with Yelovich, if he ever makes it back over here, I think maybe he's going to maybe push for a starting position as well. In my hotel room, I watched Jasper Johnson
Starting point is 00:48:52 a part of both of his games. And I love the kids' athleticism. I think he's good. I think he's going to be really good. I kind of think, we'll see. He may want to be a one-ed-done. He looks to me to be like a two-year dude, but he looks to me like a dude.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Again, I've only watched a couple games, but he looks to me like a two-year dude that maybe is going to be more of a six-or-seventh man than I thought. Yeah, I think he's, like I said earlier, he's going to get better and better. I think it's going to get bigger and stronger. You get him to UK, they get him on the workout program. He muscles up a little bit. He becomes that much more valuable as a player.
Starting point is 00:49:33 I'll tell you who's good. I don't want him to be good. The kid going to Louisville's good. A kid going to Louisville's going to be a problem. I mean, that Brown kid, he's the best player on Team USA, and he'll be the best freshman Louisville's had. I don't know. I mean, he might be the best freshman Louisville's had since Purvis Ellis.
Starting point is 00:49:59 He's that good? Yeah. No, I mean, he's, he's, look, he's going to be a lot like all of those cow freshmen in the sense of he'll be inconsistent. He won't be good. Like, he'll have his moment. But like, as far as a raw talent, that dude, that's the best freshman I can think of. Can you think of a freshman they had that's better? No.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Donovan Mitchell, did he come out as a freshman? Or did he play two years? Merrick Petino thought he needed to stay. And he ended up leaving. Actually, did Donvin Mitchell play one or two? Two. And he got, yeah, I mean, certainly the best since Donvin Mitchell. I'll leave, but he's going to be good.
Starting point is 00:50:40 I mean, I wish he wasn't, but he is. He'll be their best player. It looked like Jasper may have gotten hurt right at the end of the game. He had something on his wrist. You know, we're in Jasper Johnson country, by the way, over here in Versailles. That's exactly right, yeah. So, yeah, he walked off the floor with ice on his wrist. So hopefully that's just a temporary.
Starting point is 00:50:58 We'll see. again, I think tomorrow, so we'll see if he plays. Yeah, he had a good game, what 11 points and 11 minutes? Hit a big bucket right at the end of the first half. Yeah, it was like a 60-point win, but yeah, he played. If you want to watch him play, his game yesterday, which, to be fair, I haven't seen the highlights of that game. That was his best game so far.
Starting point is 00:51:17 You can go to USA basketball, and all of those games are on there. He's going to be a superstar someday. We just just pay attention to what he does because, man, this guy's going to be a superstar. Yeah, I mean, he's, don't get me wrong. He's going to play a lot and be good. next year. But I think I may move the starter to Aberdeen. We're going to take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:51:34 We are here at High Bramble Park and for sales. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
