Now, here's Matt Jones.
All right, good morning, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, grandpas, grandmas, aunts and uncles,
all you crazy and the people in Big Blue Nation.
Ryan Lemon here for this Tuesday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio is Tuesday, July 16th.
It is Wednesday, July 16th.
My goodness, Shannon.
I'm already a day behind.
Yeah.
Been a long week already.
So as always, our Kentucky Sports Radio is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T.J., what happens, Shannon?
He'll make them pay.
He'll make them pay.
We'll have our Whiskey Thief call of the day, which may be kind of tough because we only got a couple segments on the show.
We're going to take some phone calls on the Clark's Publishout phone line.
859-280-2-287, 859-280-cats, if you want to call and get on board today.
And also, the A-Vision Glass Tech Machine is my cell phone this week.
So we got kind of a fun show plan.
We did this last year, Shannon, when we brought on all the TBT guys and talked to every single one of them.
It works so well, we're going to do it again this year.
And why not do it today when it is the slowest sports day of the year?
I mean, there's nothing going on.
So we're going to have four guys today, four guys tomorrow, and I think even two or three guys on Friday.
Game Day.
They're going to come in here before game on Friday.
So today in the first hour, we've got D'Andre Liggins and Duran Lamb.
and the second hour will be
Anthony Aminor and
Khalil Whitney. So I'm really kind of excited to talk to all
four of those guys today.
TBT week comes at a perfect time for us.
Gives us something to talk about, get excited about it,
and get excited about it. It was such a huge success last year.
I'm kind of excited about the tournament this year, Shannon.
Oh, I am too. It was a lot of fun last year.
I think any time you get to talk about
Kentucky versus Louisville in the middle of the summer,
that's always fun.
And, you know, yesterday we were talking about our all-time
starting five, and we had that one caller
that says that liggins and lamb should be locks in the all-time starting five.
I don't know if I can agree with that caller,
but we got both of them here with, well, with you.
I'm in the studio, but with you today on the show.
By the way, how's KS. Bar looking right now?
You know, we're in the middle of that update for the bar.
How's it looking?
We are on the patio of KS Bar and Grill where it is completely bare.
They've taken out the hostess stand, all the tables, chairs, everything,
completely bare on the patio.
Yeah.
And inside, as soon as you go on the front door, we've moved the host stand from outside on the patio to as soon as you come in on the front door on your right-hand side.
So there's a lot of space right now.
They're trying to clean things out because they're going to redo the floors this week.
And they just warned me.
They're going to be redoing the floors tomorrow while we're here at KS. Barr doing the show.
So it may be quite loud tomorrow doing that.
But Drew and Abby and I were here over the weekend, kind of removing some pictures and trying to think of some different things to do.
trying to get somewhat of a different look for the relaunch.
We wanted to kind of have a new, updated, different look as well.
You know what I mean?
I'm excited about the new food menu items that we tried out.
That's going to be really exciting and looking forward to everybody trying those when we reopened.
I wanted to ask you, though, do you have your paint brush ready?
Because Matt has already said that he's going to have you up on that roof painting the roof blue.
Do you have your paint picked out and your paint brush ready to go?
We looked at what he was talking about.
I had never noticed it ever.
In the six years we've had open, I've never noticed that roof,
and that may be a landlord situation.
That's not a KS. Barr situation, I don't think.
That's the awning over our building.
I think it's a Ryan Lemon situation.
Yeah.
And it also connects to our neighbors next door.
We just want to just do half of a blue, then it goes back to green, faded green.
No, that would look terrible.
No, we can't do that.
Yeah.
Drew and I looked at it.
We're like, that may be something that,
we need to be discussed in future KS Bar meetings.
What we're going to do with that up there?
Yeah.
Well, look, I think you're just trying to get out of having to get up on a roof and paint.
I am.
You know what?
I don't blame you.
I wouldn't want to be up there either.
He mentioned my name, and I'm going, that's what you think.
I'm not getting up on that roof.
That's not happening here.
But, so we're well on our way to reopening in the next couple of months.
We're looking for mid to late March, April, August.
March, April?
Which one is it?
No, we'll be open by August.
Okay.
I think we'll get everything ready by the end.
Okay.
Now, we'll have just kind of a short segment here because Duran and D'Andre are on their way.
They're going to join us at 10-15.
So a couple things I want to talk to you about, Shannon.
For really, for the first time, maybe in the history of this show, in the 14-year history of this show,
I want to be our first topic that you and I talk about, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Yeah.
I know nobody cares.
It's an all-star game.
It's luster, but last night, finishing in a 6-6 tie at the end of nine innings, they did something, I didn't even know they'd put in place where they have basically a home run derby swing off to determine the winner of the All-Star game.
And Shannon, I was more into that than any Major League Baseball All-Star game since Pete Rose bowled over Ray Fossy.
I mean, I think it was what baseball needed last night.
First of all, National League, you thought they were going to get a win.
they were up 6 to 4, 9th inning.
They hadn't won a game.
I think they lost 11 out of 12 games or 10 out of 11.
Something like that.
And National League blew it.
Come back.
Then it's tied up.
And we're like, okay, ninth inning's over.
What happens now?
We just call it a tie, right?
Or do we just go to extra innings?
No, they bring out the batting cages and we have an impromptu home run derby.
And I'm going, what is this?
I didn't even know this was a rule.
I didn't either.
But I feel like this was Major League Baseball's
direct response to the people who say baseball's boring, but so boring, I can't watch it.
Oh, yeah, we're just going to have a home run derby right in the middle of the All-Star game.
And you know what?
I'm fine with it being the All-Star game.
It's all for entertainment anyway.
It doesn't mean anything.
They don't even have the home-filled advantage in the World Series anymore.
They've got no meaning attached to the All-Star game.
So I'm fine with them settling it that way.
I just didn't even know that that's the way that they were going to do it.
I didn't either.
Never even heard that being in the Union.
Star game fun again, I think, having something like that.
I mean, the anticipation, I think Kyle Schwabber steps up and he acts like he's Babe Ruth and hits three swings, three home runs, kind of sent it for the National League.
You know, soccer goes to penalty kicks at the end of a tie.
The Ryder Cup, you know, they send out their three best guys when it's a tie.
Yeah.
I heard you and Billy debate this, and I'm kind of on your side about this.
I don't want to use it in to, you know, solve a regular season game.
But for an All-Star game, I loved it.
I thought it was perfect.
Yeah, I'm good with it in the All-Star game again.
But Billy was trying to make the argument that we should have every regular season baseball game be like this.
And I go, you know, we've already made a mockery of it enough as we're putting Ghostrunners out on second base to start the 10th inning, which I think is crazy.
But whatever, I can live with that.
But, you know, the home run derby at the end of the All-Star game, that's fine.
But you can't have that in the regular season.
At that point, you're just changing the game entirely.
Yeah. Well, a good move by Major League Baseball.
Got some interest in it again.
Got some interest in an All-Star game that nobody really cared about.
And I thought it was a great idea.
I don't want to see it in regular season.
But then again, I don't like him putting a runner on second base.
Because, you know, what if a guy has a no-hitter through nine innings?
He goes out to the 10th inning.
A runner is already on second base.
Yeah.
They bun him over to third.
No, that's not a hit.
Sacrifice Fly scores him.
That's not a hit.
And then he strikes out.
So he gets out of the inning, but now he's behind one to nothing.
and he's got a no-hitter.
Well, yeah, but I mean, like, when's the last time you saw a guy throw 10 innings?
You know what I'm saying?
Bob Gibson?
Exactly.
So, I mean, my point is, like, they won't even, like, I was watching an old, it was, I think it was, like, 92.
And Doug Drabeck for the Pirates was throwing 132 pitch.
And I'm going, there's no way that would ever happen in today's game.
They just, you know, they're going to pull the pitcher even if he was throwing a no-hitter through nine innings.
You know, which I guess in that.
game the score had to be zero to zero.
You're not going to see that.
So the scenario that you laid out, I don't think, is very likely to ever happen,
especially in today's game.
Do you like those soccer that they do penalty kicks at the end of games in, you know,
the regular season and playoffs, whatever it is?
They go to penalty kicks.
It's like sudden death, right?
I don't watch enough soccer to really have a strong opinion on it, but, you know,
I'm fine with that.
But, you know, baseball, it was fun for the All-Star game.
Let's just leave it as it is for the regular season game, though.
So, as we said, it's a TBT day.
the TBT guys play on Friday night
just Shannon and I here
Billy will join us for the second hour but a couple things
a couple housekeeping things I want to take care of first
everybody
when you say your prayers tonight your thoughts
and prayers remember Drew and Drew's mom
that's why Drew's off today
she's got some medical issues she's dealing with
I'll let him explain if he wants to
he can explain it when he comes back but just know
that Drew and his family and his
mom and dad and sister
they need us they need us right now
So remember the Franklin family in your prayers for sure.
And just something personally, I was blown away last night.
The ladies of KSR for the second time have come to my rescue.
And I am just, I'm a lot of loss for words because thank you is not near enough.
You know, everybody thinks this ladies of KSR is just a Facebook group.
They're more, a lot more than a Facebook group.
They reach out and help people that are part of Big Blue Nation,
and they show a lot of love and compassion.
And just on behalf of Josiah, I mean, when my house caught on fire,
the ladies of KSR stepped up and just went way above and beyond,
taking care of some things for Josiah that he lost in the fire.
And now they've done it again, Shannon.
I mean, it just blows my mind how thought.
thoughtful and compassionate, loving these ladies are.
And I know some of them personally, some of them I've never met.
Most of them I've never met.
And what they did last night just totally just blew me away.
And I can't say thank you enough.
It just know that you've earned your wings.
God bless each and every one of you.
And I'm very, very, very thankful.
Yeah, they're the absolute best.
When my grandmother passed away, they were there.
They're like a big support group.
Yeah, that's a good way to put it.
A big thank you to the ladies of KSR for everything that they do.
All right, well, take our early break.
The guys are allegedly en route.
I think Shannon, though, Durant Lamb's kind of famous for oversleeping.
Oh, is he?
Okay, okay.
Yeah, I think there's a story where he was in an NBA tryout,
and he was in the hotel, and he overslept and missed the tryout.
I think there's some kind of story like that.
That wouldn't happen again, though.
That wouldn't happen today.
No, I wouldn't happen again.
But apparently there's going to be like a shuttle, bringing two guys,
and then bringing the other two guys.
And then tomorrow is Willie Colley Stein, the Harrison Twins,
and somebody else.
I can't remember who it is.
But one guy we won't have is Jesser.
Oh, that's a shame.
Yeah.
I know, Shannon, you're really disappointed that Jester won't make the trip and be.
He was going to come on the show with this.
I mean, I think that was more exciting than him playing in the tournament.
Do you think that maybe he realized that he was going to have to talk to the World Heavyweight Radio champion
and goes, you know what?
This isn't worth it.
this guy apparently doesn't want me to be on the team.
I'm just going to step away right now.
You think maybe that's what happened?
I think he was listening.
Yeah, I heard you talking some smack.
He didn't want any part of Shannon the dude.
But apparently there was some scheduling issues with him,
and he's not going to be here.
So they replaced him with Marquis Warwick,
who's a Henry Clay alum, leading score in Henry Clay history.
Went to Northern Kentucky for like three years, four years,
and then finished up at Missouri last year.
I would say that's a good upgrade.
Oh, you got a guy that can flat-out play against a guy.
guy that could play pickup ball in somebody's driveway who you're going to take you're going to take
mark we's warwick yeah i mean in all seriousness though like what like i gave a strong opinion on what
i thought about bringing on influencers on the t bt team like what's your honest opinion on it like
do you like that they were trying to bring on a youtube guy to be on the tbt or you like me and
you're like this is ridiculous what are we doing we're trying to win this thing why are we bringing
on influencers well they weren't obviously bringing him on to help the team and and
and be a contributor.
They were bringing him on for the publicity,
the social media content,
trying to give the TBT team some exposure.
They're giving them a jersey, though.
They're getting a spot on the roster, though.
They're not just bringing them in to hang out with the crew
and be like a manager.
They're putting him on the roster.
Yeah, he wasn't going to play.
I mean, he played very, very, very little.
But I think they were just looking for that publicity content
because the dude does a lot of, like,
basketball-type videos and things.
Like, he had 10-year-olds playing against,
70-year-olds in a video.
So that's what they were looking at.
So from that aspect, if we knew up front, hey, we're not counting on this guy to help us.
We're just counting on him for some PR.
Just be flat out up front about it.
I think I'd be okay with it.
Yeah.
Like, I guess you'd be surprised as to how many people would watch a video of a guy sitting on a bench.
Very true.
It doesn't sound like anything I would watch on YouTube, but the guy, you know, he's very successful on YouTube.
You know, it's great.
But I just think it's crazy that they're trying to put him on a roster for something like this.
Because last night I was talking to a group of college kids.
They were probably six or seven, maybe eight of them.
Yeah.
And we were talking about it.
Every single one of them knew who he was.
And every single one of them had watched these videos.
And I'm like, I had no clue who he was until they announced he was on the team.
Yeah, but I mean, I know who a lot of people are.
You know, like I know who Samuel L. Jackson is, but I don't want him out there balling for Kentucky in the TBT.
Come on, man.
That'd be cool if Samuel Jackson was on the team, man.
Be like I'm in a uniform.
I don't think he can go out.
He's going to get dunked on if he goes out there, you know.
Everybody's on the team.
See, you're not helping my argument.
Team photo, maybe put him on the poster.
So, no jessor.
All right, we'll take our break.
Come back.
Hopefully the guys will show up here pretty soon.
I keep looking around.
Got my head on a swivel, but I don't see him yet.
We are live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill.
The guys will be here.
I know some people, I think, are maybe wanting some autographs and things if they want to come by.
I'm sure the guys will be good about it.
I mean, they were great when they were here last year at the restaurant.
If you got something you want them to sign, we got Duran and D'Andre the first hour,
and then Khalil Whitney and Anzley Alman or the second hour, if you want to get them to sign something, I'm sure they will.
All right.
Well, take our break.

Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, live on the patio at KS Bar and Grill.
Ryan and Shannon today on this wacky Wednesday edition of KS Bar
because most of the guys are gone on vacation, a little time off before football season starts.
So we're waiting on Duran Lamb and D'Andre Liggins, so we do have a phone call.
If you want to call and get on board now, let's go ahead and take some calls.
859-280-2287.
That's the phone number.
Clark's Pubby Shop phone number.
So who we got, Shannon?
Let's go to Adam.
Adam.
Adam.
Hey, guys.
First of all, I think we should settle.
Any tag game after nine innings.
We'll just have a donut eating contest.
How many can you get down in 15 minutes?
I like that.
That's a great idea.
You know what that is?
That's our whiskey thief not call today.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
Well, Shannon, I mentioned I talked to some college kids last night.
I was at the Legends game.
About several Legends games this summer, I'm the guy when they say,
let's go down on the field for the dizzy bat raise with Ryan Lemon.
So I'm that guy down on the field.
Oh, yeah, the MC.
The MC, yeah, yeah.
So how many people do you think came up to me and talked to me about eating donuts?
Probably everything.
Higher.
Higher.
Higher.
Higher.
Take a guess.
Higher.
Do you have an actual number?
It was over 100.
Over 100.
And I am not exaggerating.
It was everybody.
Like, hey, Ryan, how those donuts taste?
Sorry you didn't make to eat.
the donuts like yeah i don't know i'm a complete failure i get it so do you do that do you do that
at every legends game or just no i do like just a couple of months i think i've done maybe six this
summer uh right now i got a couple more coming up so yeah i actually i enjoy it it's kind of fun
i got something i want to tell you about that and just adam's still with us by the i don't
know did adam adam did you have a question uh yeah i actually wanted to uh you know we're
talking with miron about the all-time you know wildcats um and
And I don't believe this to be true, but just wanted to throw this out there that you can make the case that Big Nausee, I mean, three final fours, two national championships spent 18 years in the NBA.
That's pretty impressive.
Yeah, I appreciate phone call, Adam.
I mean, we were trying to just look at guys just what they did at Kentucky.
That's why, you know, Shea Gilges can't be on our all-time starting five, even though he's going to end up being maybe the greatest pro of the Calera, him or AD, one of the other.
So, you know, Nazi, Wayne Turner, Cameron Mills, Jeff Shepard, Scott Padgett,
these guys that won two championships and went to three straight final fours.
You can't deny that.
But do they end up on our all-time starting five, Shannon?
I don't know.
I don't think I can make that argument.
I mean, Kentucky is so hard to go through all the great players.
And if you're looking at what they just did at Kentucky, and you're right, you made this
point yesterday.
I thought it was a good point.
it kind of depends on like when these guys come in.
Like John Wall coming in right after the Gillespie era was huge for Kentucky, right?
Mashburn coming in, you know, after Eddie Sutton and being on probation and everything.
So a lot of that too, like how we remember these players has to do with when they came in.
You know, they came in when the program needed a boost.
And I think that's the case for Wall and Mashburn and their respective eras playing here at Kentucky.
100%.
You're exactly right.
They came along and helped revive the program when the program needed it the most.
Those two guys.
You can't take that away.
Because like we said, you look at just, if you're looking at just numbers, well, Brandon Knight had better numbers than John Wall.
Deeran Fox had better numbers than John Wall.
I think even Tyler Ullis, his sophomore season, had better numbers than John Wall.
But what John Wall meant and stood for in his program, you can't deny, he is one of the most valuable cats of all time.
Yeah, yeah, there's no doubt about it.
Now, I wanted to go back to, you were mentioned in the last.
Legends game. I wanted to tell you, they asked me to throw out the first pitch at the Legends game on
the 29th. So I was wondering if you were going to be there maybe doing one of your MC jobs at the
Legends game. I'm going to know this. No, it's a Tuesday night. I'm going to request it. I'm going to
request it. I do Tuesday to 29th. There you go. And harass you as you throw out the first pitch.
That would be a lot of fun. I mean, I'm going to be there regardless. So, you know, if you're there too,
that would be a lot of fun.
awesome yeah well last night one of the guys that threw out the first pitch was charlie higgumbottom
higgum bottom who's the leader of the 101 club and i told him him what do you try just don't
bounce it don't bounce it you have to lob it up there well he lobbed it somebody just pulled up with
some jeff donuts oh god they're just giving it a thumbs down they're just here to taunt you now
they are taunted they're going to sit there and eat the donuts right in your face
because jess donuts right here in front ks bar and girl so he got it and he comes over here
and he's trying to give me a box of Jeff donuts.
I gave him a big thumbs down.
I don't know if I'll ever eat another glazed donut.
I know I'm not going to eat a glazed donut anytime soon.
That's for sure.
I wanted to ask you about that because I know people have said,
like when they've tried to do competitive eating,
that you know, you just get sick off of it
and you don't ever want to eat it again.
And I was wondering if you're like that with, you know,
that particular donut or is it just glazed donuts
or is it donuts in general that you just don't want to even think about now
because you did that contest?
I can't quit donuts cold.
I can't quit you.
I can't quit you.
But I can quit glazed donuts.
I don't,
there's no,
I am,
I am not going to eat a glazed donut for a long time.
Unless it's like Spalding's.
I can eat a Spaldins glazed donut.
Yeah.
And I could eat like,
you know,
I like apple fritters.
I like long johns that are stuffed with cream.
I don't,
you know,
that kind of stuff.
But I,
no way I can eat a glazed donut.
I can't even think about eating a glazed donut.
Well,
because I think I told you guys this on Monday.
Yeah.
I threw them up.
Yeah.
I laid down after you guys left and my stomach started doing cartwheels and I threw them up.
So there's no way I want any part of a glazed donut.
But you'll eat a long John though.
We can call you Long John Ryan now.
That's what they call me anyway.
859-2802-287.
I didn't finish my story about Charlie Higginbottom.
Yeah.
I told him he said, whatever you do, don't bounce it.
Just don't bounce it.
So I said, just lob it.
Just don't want to bounce it.
Well, he lobbed it.
But he lobbed it so high, it bounced at home plate right before it got to the catcher.
Oh, no.
Well, part of that's on the catcher, too.
Are you throwing to an actual catcher or are you throwing to like a mascot?
Because when I've thrown out the first pitches for like the little bats, you're throwing to the mascot.
Well, this is a player, but he's like a pitcher who is not, you know, like a starting pitcher that pitched two days ago.
You know, not going to be in the game today.
So you pick, you throw it to a real player, but it's not the starting catcher or anything.
They're putting a lot of trust out there, you know, in my fastball and they're putting their starting pitcher out there.
I mean, you know, I wouldn't want to injure anybody, you know.
They may sign you on the spot
That's what I'm saying. That's exactly what I'm saying.
So it's July 29th, Shannon the dude
throwing out the first pitch at the Legends game.
I'm going to make sure I'm working that night so I can harass you
and make fun of you the whole night.
There were a bunch of people there last night.
It was $2 Tuesday.
They're getting good crowds again over the Legends ballpark.
So it is kind of fun, Shannon.
You'll have a good time that night.
I've never actually been to a Legends game,
so that'll be my first.
Looking forward to doing that, and we'll see you there on the 29th.
I got a couple more legend stories.
as we'll tell later.
But we're still waiting on Duran Lamb and D'Andre Liggins.
All points bulletin out.
We'll be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
I know those of you listen on podcasts won't be able to appreciate what we're hearing right now.
Darius Rucker singing Wagon Wheel, just the best singer in the history of country music singing Wagon Wheel.
Chan, I got to admit, my heart went out to Darius.
You know, he and I are born the same year.
He just had a birthday, so my birthday's coming up next month.
We're getting up there a little in our age a little bit.
Yeah.
But he actually, for the first time in his career, while on stage, after singing Wagon Wheel, told the crowd, guys, I just can't do it.
I've lost my voice.
I thought I could pull through.
But he stabbed his step off the stage for the first time without completing a concert.
My heart goes out to Darius, man.
Yeah, you know, some nights you just don't have the fastball.
Some nights it's just not working for you for whatever reason.
But he did say that he was issuing refunds, which is the right move to make.
But, yeah, I'm sure it was disappointing for everybody who, you know, you got to think about.
When you go to a concert, a lot of people are coming from out of town and they're getting hotel rooms.
And it's more than just showing up and, you know, watching a concert.
It's like a full-on event for a lot of people.
So, yeah, I hate that that happened, but, you know, it's live.
And I at least commend him for trying.
and he's not going up there and just phoning it in like a lot of musicians do today
and, you know, use backing vocals that aren't really theirs.
And, you know, half of what you're hearing really isn't live.
You know, at least he gave it an effort, you know.
He couldn't get through it, but he tried.
I want to say this too.
Back in 2001, maybe 2002, when Hooting and Blowfish was still doing shows,
they did a show downtown Lexington at the Kentucky Theater.
And it's the only time I've seen Hooting the Blowfish live.
and they said before the show
that Darius was had an IV that morning
he was so sick, so dehydrated
that before he flew out of Charleston
he had an IV
and it was taking meds the whole day
well of course he gets on stage
and he goes man
you're in Kentucky I've been sick all day
bourbon is my only medication tonight
so he started slamming bourbon
but he finished the show
maybe that's the secret Darius
maybe you should have just started slamming Kentucky bourbon
while you're on the
stage. I think it was in like New Jersey or New York
or something. Yeah. I mean, you know, these guys
are human just like the rest of us. Sometimes we have
to call in sick. When you're a musician,
you're on the road. Sometimes you get a call in sick. It's just
you know, it happens. We've got
a couple of callers. We're going to get to in just a second here on the Clark's
Publishan out phone line. But Corey Price sent us a stat,
Shannon. The last time
a pitcher in the big leagues through at least
10 in a regular season major league
baseball game was in 2012.
A guy named Cliff Lee.
I don't even know who that is.
Cliff Lee. Yeah, sounds familiar.
You know, but it used to be regular where a starter would go a full nine innings.
Now a guy goes six, and they yank him out of there,
but the last time somebody went into the 10th inning was in 2012.
And I don't think we'll ever see it again.
I think there's so much of an emphasis on pitch count now.
They're counting pitches instead of the innings.
859-2-287.
Who we got, Shannon?
All right, let's go to court.
Court.
Go ahead, court.
Hey, I thought you guys did a fine job doing the donut.
eating contests, especially the way y'all were
commentating while Ryan was eating them.
It was almost like watching a sporting event or something.
The next challenge y'all got to do is a hot pepper challenge.
Yeah, Ryan, that's next for you.
Get your hot peppers ready.
First of all, I don't like hot peppers.
I can't eat hot peppers.
I can't do it.
That's the one thing I cannot do is eat a hot pepper or a hot food like that.
Yeah, I'd like to see all y'all try to do the hot pepper challenge.
That's the next one of us.
Yeah, I think that's a hard note from it.
You know who loves hot stuff, though, is our boy Matt.
I think, you know, he's the guy.
Yeah, of course, he won't do any kind of challenge, but if he were to do it,
I feel like that's one that maybe he would, you know, be suited for.
And he's the one guy of my friends I know that would win.
I got a couple friends that like hot stuff.
Matt's one of those guys that I think could do it.
I like it a little bit hot, but when it gets so much to the point to where it's like
literally burning your tongue in your mouth, it's uncomfortable at that point.
And I'm going, okay, I don't enjoy this anymore.
So I like a little bit of hot, but you get into the ghost pepper and that level of hot.
It's where I check out.
My son, Josiah, loves it.
He'll sit there and eat something so hot that his mouth is open and he's drinking like crazy and then go take another bite.
He loves it.
Like if it's so hot that I've got to drink milk just to be able to get it down, it's not enjoyable, so I'm not doing it.
Who's our next call, Shannon?
John. Go ahead, John.
How you doing, guys?
How you doing, John?
I'm doing good.
I wanted to bring up Rex Chapman again as one of the top Kentucky players.
He was only at Kentucky two years, and he also played small forward.
David and James Blackman playing alongside him, and they weren't a Chapman scored 26.
The guy wanted to mention that won't be in anybody's top five and never gets any love is Chief Folk.
just because he was a heck of a score
and never consented attention,
so I wanted to bring him up.
Appreciate that.
Yeah, we did talk about Bogans.
He's the leading scoring guard
in Kentucky basketball history, which is crazy.
But Rex, I'll say this about Rex, Shannon.
He was maybe the biggest rock star
during a season we've ever had.
Him and John Wall were rock stars.
I mean, it was so exciting when he picked Kentucky over Louisville
they called it Rexington
they sold shirts that said
Rexington and then when he left they sold shirts
and said Young and the Rexless
he's if I had to rank
rock stars
Rex is probably top of the list
and if you're Rex Chapman you have to be thinking
looking at today's world of college sports going
man wonder how much NIL money
I would have made
Oh my good
Imagine the deals that he would have gotten if NIL
existed back then
I think the guys who would benefit the most Rex
and Richie Farmer
Those two guys would have
just killed it in the NIL world if they were still playing.
859-2-2-287.
We got another call.
Shannon, who is it?
All right.
Let's go to Tim.
Tim, go ahead, Tim.
Hey, guys.
You guys touched on something earlier that's going to happen for us tomorrow.
My daughter gets to throw out the first pitch at the Legends game.
Nice.
Through the Dream Factory and Make a Wish Foundation.
She survived cancer at nine months old.
Wow.
So how old is she now?
She's nine, and she plays softball, and I was in the Marines, but I tell everybody she's my hero.
Amen.
But one other thing.
Wait, wait, hold on one second.
Tell her to scoot up.
She didn't have to throw from the pitching rubber.
Oh, yeah.
She could make it from there.
She can make it from there.
But, yeah, we're going to have her scoot up a little bit.
Yeah.
But with the starting five, I don't think there's any way that you can do that for a team like Kentucky unless you break it down by decade.
Yeah, for sure.
In my opinion.
There's only maybe four schools in the entire country that has that problem, and Kentucky is at the top of that list.
Amen.
Yeah.
Appreciate the phone call.
Yeah, I mean, that's what, that's why, you know, kind of hard for us yesterday, just spitball on different guys because you can go above.
bunch of different ways.
Maybe doing it by decades is the best thing.
And you pick the best player from each decade.
And maybe I saw somebody say, make that you're starting five.
But it's just kind of a fun summer topic.
And it's something that really everybody had an input on last night.
Yeah.
And, you know, Myron is doing this for a bunch of different teams.
I would say that this is probably going to be the most difficult team for him to do.
Because Kentucky has so many great players throughout the years.
I mean, most, if you go around the country and most schools, there's a definitive starting
five all time but Kentucky's just got such a great history and so many great players it's it's
really hard to narrow it down to just five guys and you can't just go over the top five leading
scores right i mean it istle walker givins bogans those are your top four i think you can't
just do that you got to see i think what they meant to the program that's why i think mashman
has to be and you make a good argument about wall that's why wall would maybe be ahead of guys like
you know Kyle macy or ralph beard yeah it felt like kentucky's back once john wall you know
It all kind of started with Midnight Madness, right?
With the John Wall dance and all that.
John Wall dance.
You know, I'm not putting him on there because he's a great dancer,
but he was, you know, a great basketball player.
And I think that the timing has a lot to do with that as well.
859-280-2-287.
It's the Clark's Publish Shop phone number.
I got something now from the A-Vision Glass text machine.
This is from our buddy Vinny.
Which challenge did you like the best?
The putts or the donuts?
Come on, man.
Come on, Vinny.
I failed at both of them.
We've got to find one that you can do.
We've got to have like the Ryan Lemoned,
redemption tour.
Like, is there something you could do that you're confident you could do?
Well, I did the push-up challenge.
I did the running around Appleby's Legends Ballpark Challenge.
Okay, yeah, but what was the push-up?
I don't even remember the push-up challenge.
I think he had people try to guess how many push-ups I could do without stopping.
There was no money on the line or anything, though, right?
No, no money on the line, no.
Okay.
So what we found out is that any time there's money on the line, you choke.
Literally on donuts.
Well, I did on the donut.
I'm telling you, Shannon, if I had one more minute, one more minute,
I think I could have stuffed that last one in my mouth.
I don't think he could have.
I just, I started too slow.
I just, they were so thick and dense.
I couldn't chew and swallow those big old things.
Well, the message that everybody was getting, and I even got one from my mom,
she sent me a text, and the message said, I just feel bad for Ryan.
And that was everybody's response.
I just feel bad for Ryan.
So you did get everybody's sympathy for not finishing 10 donuts.
Well, make sure you tell your mom, I said, hey, what's up?
How you doing?
First of all, you got a girlfriend and my mom is married, okay?
So what are you doing?
All right, well, take our break.
Guess what?
Still no D'Andre Liggins and Duran Lamb.
We're live on the patio here at KS Bar and Grill.
Now I'm worried about Caliol-Wittney and Anthony Alvador.
So you know what?
This reminds me of something.
You getting stood up.
This reminds me of when they had us do, it's just lunch.
and they would pair us with like random people.
They were, oh, yeah, you're a great match for Cindy over here.
And why don't you go ahead and meet at this restaurant at this time?
And I would show up and my date never would show up.
You're kind of getting the same treatment that I got for it's just lunch right now with the basketball players.
So now you know how I felt.
And you know what happens on a perfect day when Matt's not here, Drew's not here, Mario's not here,
Billy's not here.
You and I are here.
That's all that matters right now.
It's all matters.
There's nothing going on in the sports.
sports world right now.
Here's the thing.
Remember when you and I did that,
you and I had to be on the air for an hour
straight.
It was at Fort Knox.
When Drew and Matt were jumping from the plane
and there was nothing going on.
We couldn't go to a break.
We didn't have any cell phone connection.
We couldn't look up like anything on the internet.
That was the worst radio we've ever done before.
But look, right now it's just you and I.
We can go to a break anytime we want to.
We got the internet.
We're good.
We're all good here.
Dude, I'm telling you.
That was the worst radio show in the history of radio.
When something went down in the studio and we couldn't take calls, we couldn't go to break.
We had just talk nonstop out in the middle of BFE and on Fort Knox waiting on Matt and Drew to jump out of an airplane.
I think you and I were ready to jump out of an airplane that day.
That was awful.
All right, let's go ahead and take a break.
Give us a call.
Today's your day.
We'll take your phone call.
859-8-0-2-287, the Clark's Publish out phone number, Ryan and Shannon, and nobody else.
here on Kentucky Sports Radio.

All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan and Shannon.
I'm here on the patio at KS Bar and Grill.
The TBT guys, our first two guests have not arrived,
Duran Lamb and D'Andre Liggins.
But Khalil Whitney is here.
I'm really anxious to talk to him, Shannon.
I mean, it's kind of good to catch up with him and see what he's been doing.
So we'll talk to him in just a minute, but we've got some phone calls we want to get to you real quick.
So who's our first caller, Shannon.
All right.
Brad.
Brad, go ahead, Brad.
Hello.
Yeah, the missing on the missing chair,
there's a gang of thieves operating nationwide.
They block the Wi-Fi signal.
It takes down the security system.
They do this neighborhood-wide,
so your neighbors have probably lost things, too.
and they may have burglar out of your house you want to check into that.
I've got others there.
We've got an update.
We have an update, Shannon.
What's your update on Adirondack chair?
What were you saying, Brad?
I was going to let him finish what he was saying real quick.
Oh, my bad.
The only way around it is to get hardwired cable and it has to be buried or aerial.
Gotcha.
Okay.
Thanks for that, Brad.
I appreciate it.
By the way, this is a pre-show topic, I guess, that's bleeding over into KSR because,
Ryan, you and I haven't even talked about this on the KSR show.
But I was telling Billy on the pre-show that down in Panama City Beach, where I had my condo,
I went out and I bought this really nice rocking chair for my front porch because, you know,
I rent my condo out.
I want my renters to be comfortable and have, you know, nice furniture out there on the front porch.
And I had renters in there today, and they said your rocking chair is now gone.
It's missing.
And I paid good money for this rocking chair, Ryan.
You were very proud of it.
It's not some cheap chair we're talking about.
This chair was hundreds of dollars.
and it just was missing all of a sudden.
And I have a ring doorbell camera right there in front of it.
I'm going, how in the world, after going back and reviewing the tape,
could this chair just be missing and it not show up on the ring?
You know, when you go back and you look at your past footage
and, you know, every time that somebody walks by it,
it sets off that motion detector and you can see what happened.
So this chair was just missing.
And then I posted in our condo, like, Facebook community page
about it and 30 minutes later it's now back so i have no idea and i go back and i look on there
and again it's just there it doesn't show at all any notification so i couldn't even see who
returned it but it's your buddy your buddy playing a prank on you maybe i hope so you know
we've already called the uh the front office and we've got security on high alert down there in
florida looking for a rocking chair that was stolen but it's now back and somehow i got back
without being able to see who returned it.
But that's the thing.
I said, look, next time if you want to borrow the chair, just ask me.
Don't steal it.
That's too funny.
So the Adirondack chair is back.
It is back.
All right.
We are joined now by our first interview on the TBT week here.
They play on Friday night.
Former Kentucky Wildcat, Khalil Whitney is back in town, back in Lexington.
He had a big old smile on your face when you walked up, and you said, man, it's good to be back.
Yes, sir, it is.
It's a pleasure to be back in the city of Lexington, mine.
It's great. I took a five-hour trip up from Chicago, very smooth, and the fans have been supporting me and backing me.
It's been great since I got in town.
I heard you gave an interview, I think it was this weekend.
Yeah, I've got to put that right by your mouth.
It's kind of tough.
With all that hair you got right there.
And you said you wanted to come back and get a chance to feel the love of Kentucky Wildcat fans that you kind of missed when you were here as a player.
Talk about that a little bit.
Yeah, just the short time I spent here, I don't feel like I got the full.
experience of just the fans and the full program, unfortunately, but ever since I've been back,
you know, since I posted the TikTok and then blew up, the fans have been, you know, very supportive
and it's been very motivational for me, so I really appreciate it.
Now, you're still playing, though, right?
Yeah.
What you've been playing at?
This came from Australia, playing for Coach Patrick Ewan Jr.
For the South Metro East Pirates and the NBL.
In Australia?
In Australia, yes, sir.
I guess there are worse places to play.
That's not a bad place to play if you're playing in Australia.
Australia is beautiful, man.
It's super Americanized.
I mean, it's probably one of the best places I've played as a professional.
And how many years have you been playing there?
This is my first year.
I played there for six months.
So kind of walk us through from Kentucky.
Where have you been?
And where did you go after that?
So my first year out, I went on draft a sign with Charlotte Hornets.
That was a G-League bubble.
So we played about 11 and 12 games in there.
The next year I got traded to the Rockets,
and then I end up playing two-way with the Rockets.
And won a G-League championship there
with my former teammate, Gerald Green.
I played with Willie Carly Stein with the Rockets as well.
Yeah.
Then after that, I broke my big toe,
so I had to sit down for about four or five months.
And then that went out.
That's when I did my first.
overseas then I went to the Dominican Republic that was like I think my first time
I went overseas and then after that I went to Canada been in Croatia wow I've been
a lot of places I've been in New Zealand so I get I can hang my hat on and say I've
been around a few countries around the world but um the the best place I think I've played
far as just basketball and just like sight seeing everything I would say Croatia
Croatia is number one for me it's always kind of cool
to talk to you guys when you play overseas.
Yeah.
You're getting world experiences that we all don't get to explore.
You get it because you can play basketball,
but you're playing basketball on these great countries across the world.
Yeah.
How about that?
Yeah, it's a blessing.
It's a blessing.
I wake up every day feeling blessed that I can do what I love and get paid for.
So I just thank God every day.
So it's amazing.
He's Kalil Whitney.
He's our first guy to arrive, Shannon.
Doron and DeAndre.
We're supposed to be here at 10-15.
Yeah.
That was 45 minutes ago.
They haven't shown up.
You think maybe they're on central time.
Maybe they'll be your next hour.
Oh, geez.
Here, Khalil shows up 30 minutes early.
I think that says exactly what we're talking about right here.
It was in the Dunkin' Donuts drive-thew when I got the car.
Oh, you got to bring up donuts.
Everybody wants to talk about donuts.
Does he know about the Ryan?
He probably didn't even know about it.
I'll tell me about during the break.
I love donuts.
What are you talking about?
Oh, Khalil.
Ryan tried to eat 10 big donuts in 15 minutes, and he fell in this.
miserably.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't think I could do that.
I needed like another minute, Kalil and I would have got it.
All right, well, take our break, come back more with Kalil Whitney.
I guess Angley-Laminar is going to show up pretty soon.
At least we'll have a couple guys to talk to.
Appreciate you coming out, man.
And being early, that's what it's all about.
We'll take our break.
