Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text machine, 772-745254. Ask Anything Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:03:22 People coming in. One person says, Matt, I always like, when you tell me how things work behind. the scenes with media companies. Do you have anything with ESPN? Well, I could give you a ton of stuff. But I also like to keep my job a little bit. What I would say about ESPN, and this is true about every media company. It's true about I heart. It was true about WLAX when I worked there. It is at the end of the day, just people who are a lot more disorganized than you think they are. So like people think there are these grand decisions that get made that have some sort of ideology or like most of the time it's just like people going, okay, now what? You know?
Starting point is 00:04:09 And human beings are human beings. So like they have like egos and then sometimes people get their feelings hurt. And a lot of times on ESPN radio, sometimes it'll be the day of the show and they don't even know who's going to host that night. I'll get calls sometimes, Shannon, at like 1 p.m. that says, Can you host the show at 7 o'clock today? And if it weren't ESPN, the answer would probably be no. Because sometimes I try to do it, but then sometimes I don't. Because like I just can't.
Starting point is 00:04:36 But I mean, sometimes they'll just be a few hours before the show and they're scrambling to find a host. Like that happens all the time. Yeah. And then you have, you know, so there's just a lot of things to go about. I was mentioning IHeart. I heart produces a national set of programming that every station in the country can have. It includes like Clay and Buck. Sean Hannity,
Starting point is 00:04:59 The Alien Show, Delilah, and you get to choose what you want, but there's only one show that every market in America is forced to take. And that's the Clay and Buck show. They had to take it at 12 Eastern.
Starting point is 00:05:13 You have to take it. You're not allowed to not take it. And it's a legacy. It's not even that their show does particularly well. It does okay, but it doesn't do what Rush Limbaugh did, but that's a legacy of Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh would force them to take it. So now every station in the country has to take it. ESPN has that with their
Starting point is 00:05:32 morning show. On ESPN, they have a whole day of programming. You don't have to take any of it if you don't want, but you have to take the morning show, which used to be Kishon, Jay Will, and Zubin, and now is, I think it's called unrivaled or unscripted or whatever. So unsportsman like, that's what it is. And you have to take that. I've been getting text about unsportsman like this morning. Did you know right now their current topic is compare the Dallas Cowboys to Love Island? That's the show everyone has to take.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Have to take. Okay. I've hosted it. It's early in the morning. I mean, early in the morning. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, I am always on Shannon's side when it comes to conspiracies. Are you finally willing to give him
Starting point is 00:06:22 one on the Epstein? thing. No, but yeah. You know, I may attack conspiracy theory, but Shannon, sure. We're slowly bringing it to the other side with this one. On this one, I don't know. This is the one that's going to break you. Because the thing is, if they didn't,
Starting point is 00:06:45 if there's not something there, why are they acting like there's something? Why they just release it then? You ran saying you were going to release all this stuff. And now, like, you're not. So there's got to be something in there you don't want out. I'm not saying there is. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:06:59 But wouldn't you, if you're not guilty, why are you acting guilty? Yep. You know what I mean, Shannon? That's the thing for me. Yeah. If you're not guilty, why are you acting? Unless you just believe there is no list. But if there is a list.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And I actually think that is more likely. Right. But then why did you run for years saying there was? Maybe not even knowing if there was or wasn't the same. That's why I don't like conspiracy. theories. People just say stuff. They don't know it but they still say it
Starting point is 00:07:30 with conviction and that's why I don't like conspiracy. So now is there pressure to produce one if one doesn't exist? I think they should get up and say one of two things. Get up and say there's nothing and we were wrong to for years act like there was or release it.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Just one of those two things. I don't think either. I don't think either one of those things are going to happen. I don't either. I don't either, but like I still, I mean, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but you, it's like when the dog chases and catches the car. Now you've caught the car. Now you run government. What are you going to do about it? You caught the car you were barking at for years.
Starting point is 00:08:10 This is why I don't like any of it. They're all full of it. I mean, they made this big deal and then you get to it and then they're telling us not a big deal. I feel that way about every topic political. Everyone's full of it. So, Shannon, I'm still not. a conspiracy theory person, but... Sounds like you are to me.
Starting point is 00:08:26 What was the... It's only a matter of time before you'll be up late listening to the alien show. I'm not listening to the alien show. I'm not, I'm not budget on the aliens. We'll have you at the Denver airport in no time. Aaron, go ahead, Aaron. Yeah, why don't you all live stream or
Starting point is 00:08:48 film the show? We should. I don't know why we don't. I mean, I know why we don't. I mean, I know why we don't, which is that it's a huge. Yeah, but that's an old mentality. We got to get over. I mean, I have a ratings though. I mean, people are watching. Another old mentality that we need to get over. I mean, more people now listen to this radio show on podcast than on, then live. So why do we fix everything to the old diary method? To your point, Aaron, we should stream this live on YouTube. We already put all the clips up. There was a, I don't mean to get into the history of radio, but there was a time when I first started where they wouldn't let me put up a podcast. Zach and I did it kind of rogue,
Starting point is 00:09:35 and we didn't tell anybody. Because I was like, podcast is the future, and they said, well, we don't want to do that. And now podcast is the biggest thing they have. YouTube, like three or four years ago, they said we don't want it on YouTube because we want people to listen live. Now they're talking about building the studio for us,
Starting point is 00:09:53 to stream live on YouTube. So you got to go where the audience is. Yeah. If you try to tell the audience where to go, you lose. You got to go where the audience is. I would say within a year, we will have it streaming live on YouTube. The problem is, and I appreciate the call, I don't know what we do when we go on remote because we can't take.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Yeah, take the cameras. We can create a studio equipment at the bar and we can create it here, but I don't think we can stream live from every place we go remote. I don't really know what we would do. And we're pretty spontaneous. It can be a Sunday night and you're like, oh, Tuesday, we're at this random place. And it's just a lot of undertaking to set up those last streams on the road. But this has always been a fight of mine, you know, when we hired Mario.
Starting point is 00:10:35 There was a time they didn't want me to put clips out of the show. Right. Yeah. They didn't want me to put clips out of the show. I was like, that's the craziest thing I've ever heard. But they said, no, we want people to listen, no clips. And then finally they came around. and now Mario has brought in a massive new audience just by putting clips out.
Starting point is 00:10:55 But I had to fight for years to get them to put out clips. You can understand why they'd want people on the radio, but people will just not go to the radio. They'll find other clips to watch of other people. They're watching clips. I mean, a perfect example for me is I don't ever listen to Joe Rogan or Theo Vaughn or Shane Gillis, but I see their clips and so I know what they're doing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:17 And then, like, Joe Rogan has a guest on that I normally would never listen to him, but I see a clip and I'm like, oh, I'd like to hear what that person has to say. So the clips make me go listen to the podcast, Shannon. So, like, you got to do it. I understand doing that. I think their argument is don't do it live because then you go from a radio show to a TV. You go to a TV show at that point. Fine. There are many examples of shows that. Or whatever. Good. Sell the ads on YouTube. The VCR hated DVDs. Yeah. I mean, you can't keep people like. I'm sure cable hate streaming, but guess what? Gotta adapt.
Starting point is 00:11:52 You want to be Kodak? You want to be Blackberry? If there were only cameras in this studio, we could maybe set up and do that. We literally have cameras in here and they won't turn them on. So it's just, but, but they, to be fair to them, they are coming around on it. Yeah. Well, that's the future. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Judy, go ahead, Judy. Good. What's up? Okay. Welcome back. and cheers. Yeah, those are older, but those are good songs, yes. Those are my picks, and I'm really sad about the game, but it was very exciting last night.
Starting point is 00:12:34 It was exciting. I appreciate the call. It did look to me like a bigger crowd than Sunday. It looked like it was pretty close to being full. I don't think it was full up top. But, I mean, I still think there were five or six thousand people, which on a random night is good. Heck, yeah. And I'm sure most people might have skipped the first one.
Starting point is 00:12:52 one's knowing, heck, there could be five, six of these games in Lexington and kind of holding on to the competition got good. Just the same shame in round three. It's already over. Yes. I would love to see more games. I feel like if Willie, I feel like if he had been a little more prepared, he would have absolutely dominant.
Starting point is 00:13:08 You would have loved last year because when Willie and Bledsoe flipped a switch, there was no one in the entire tournament that could do anything about it. Yeah. Yeah, we had Bledso. Fresh off a career of averaging like 10 points in the NBA the season before. Yeah. Yeah, that would be, they would not be able to stop. Because there just aren't big guys like Willie in the league.
Starting point is 00:13:26 What about DeMarcus? What if DeMarcus played? He could dominate, couldn't he? I was holding out hope they'd get him because he's been in Puerto Rico. I think we all saw what happened to Puerto Rico. He's lowered his bar on where he's playing. I thought he would love to come back and be a part of it. What about Wall?
Starting point is 00:13:44 I heard they were close with Wall. Really? Wall and cousins were at least considering it and just didn't come around. What, him if Wall had played? Like, no one could be hard John Wall. I mean, first of all, if Wall and Cousins play, the game sold. I think that has to be the next step for them to keep the energy behind it. Don't you think Shannon Wall and Cousins sells the place out?
Starting point is 00:14:04 Yep. Just those two big personalities. Just having John Wall in there would be, he's still electric. He's still the most, in my opinion, we will never have a basketball player at Kentucky. That was as much of a rock stars, John Wall was. Rex Chapman and John Wall, two biggest rock stars here. And I don't think there's ever been anybody close. You know, we've had beloved players.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Reed was beloved. Oscar was beloved. Anthony Davis was beloved. The twin. I mean, we've had beloved, but rock stars. John Wall, Rex Chap. Yep. Biggest two rock stars.
Starting point is 00:14:42 That's the list. And I don't think anybody will be close. And then on football, Jared Lorenzen and Tim Couch. Yep. Even if John Wall couldn't play, his health or his not in shape, just having him on the roster and playing him a little bit makes a huge difference.
Starting point is 00:14:57 I agree. DeMarcus would be good, but my concern would be like last year when Anahuacu spit on Nate Sistina, I think DeMarcus might actually rip their arms off and beat them with him. I would have cheered though. Junior, go ahead, Junior. Hey, guys, I was going to ask you to retell a story from years and years ago.
Starting point is 00:15:18 A friend of mine emailed me a link to one of your blog posts about a porn star in Kansas that was suing you. I sued Drew. And I don't think you've ever told it on the radio. And I remember your response was, just go ahead and sue me. I'm wearing Velcro shoes.
Starting point is 00:15:37 I just wondered. I think it was Drew. That was my phone shoes. This was more Drew than me. So I appreciate the call. There was a porn star that was a Kansas fan. What was her name? Samantha Ryan.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Samantha Ryan. And she, there was. Trash talking between Kentucky and Kansas. And she made some kind of joke about Kentucky. She did five reasons being a Kansas fan is better than being a Kentucky fan. And then Drew did a response blog post, some of which I don't feel comfortable reading on the air. But one of the things that you made fun of a lot of things. And then her lawyer wrote us and threatened to sue us saying that,
Starting point is 00:16:22 We defamed the porn star by you saying she drinks bourbon. Yeah. That made a little joke about having bourbon. Yeah. That basically that was defamation. And I just thought it was ridiculous that, I mean, if people want to be in porn, that's fine. But that you would say my reputation has been hurt by you saying I drink bourbon when all these other things happen. And so I said, if you want to sue us, sue us.
Starting point is 00:16:51 and then of course she did not sue us and there was a back and forth. But yes, we were threatened and that was back when we had no money. I was brand new. She was threatening like, you said you could sue, you can take my Velcro shoes.
Starting point is 00:17:04 You say you had no money. I, like, by definition, had no money to my name at that point. Yeah, well, I didn't have any money then either. I mean, I was completely broke in, well, 2009, the last year of Billy, honestly the John Wall year, The John Wall year, I was broke.
Starting point is 00:17:23 I was practicing law, trying to get a law firm off the ground. We were paying our bills, basically. And I was traveling to all these games and just paying for it out of my pocket. I went over my bank account a lot. It's the most fun year I've ever had, but I think for the year on my tax return, I filed negative money. No, I'm serious. And then I got the TV show and got this radio show and was able to like,
Starting point is 00:17:50 make a little money. But 2010, one of the things that I have such a good memory about with the John Wald of Marcus Cousin's season is I was so happy and enjoying it, but we were both broke. But it was kind of fun. You know what I mean? Like we didn't have the worries of, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Do you know what I mean about that? We're trying to start something new. But if you'd say it'd be this, we would feel like, what, that's crazy. Yeah, I mean, we're trying to start something new. And we were having this fun ride. I mean, it was still exciting to be around the team and all that, but we had no money.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Like, when they played Yukon, I drove to New York and didn't even sleep in the city. Yeah, I slept in a hotel room where I thought I was going to get killed in New York. Did we sleep in our car? I don't even know what we did, but I had to see John Walvers, Yukon, so we're like, Garden, it's 15 hours away.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Hop in. Yeah, but those are great memories. Like, those to me, they'll never be a professional working year of my life. I was happier than I was during that John Walsies. But I also had no money, which is part of why I like money, as you know, Ryan, doesn't
Starting point is 00:18:56 buy happiness. We've talked about that. And you would do it all over again, when you? Yeah. I've never had more fun. Why are you picking your belly button with your shirt up as we're having this deep talk? I got an itch. He's getting his shirt off and he's picking the inside of his blood.
Starting point is 00:19:09 He has a shirt over the top of where his belly sits and he's picking. This is why we don't have cameras. This is one time I'm glad I'm not in the studio with you. If we had a stream right now, the comments would be going crazy. We'll take a break. Be right back, KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. And in recognition of mental health awareness month,
Starting point is 00:20:20 I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing
Starting point is 00:20:37 and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? them. On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star, Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:21:46 An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast. Podcasts for wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this. This is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:23:09 Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. It could buy you a boat, but you don't need one. What person writes, Matt, this is on text machine. I started listening or started reading you guys around the time Cal and them were here. You all always seemed like you had the most fun. Yeah, it was fun. And the next year was really fun too.
Starting point is 00:23:42 The freeing this year. that was a really fun year. By the national championship year, it started to get where I was so nervous. No, I'm serious. Like, I started getting so nervous in the 2012 year that I, I just,
Starting point is 00:23:57 it wasn't quite the same level of fun. It was those first two years. Plus, it was so new. I mean, Cal was so new during that time. Like, it was the best of Cal. Oh, yeah, he would be like, I was wrong once, 1979. And you still laughed.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Oh, we're pooping ice cream. Pike old a Paduca, Shannon. What good jokes. Yeah, it was all great when he was winning, but then they got old real quick. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage. Stockton Mortgage, you're looking to refinance your current mortgage loan. You're looking to maybe do cash out refinance. People you need to talk to first and foremost is Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:24:27 They can help you all across the state, but they actually can help people outside of Kentucky. I think that's a big misconception. You have to be in Kentucky? No. You live outside of Kentucky. They can still help you do your loan or refinance. They can help you hold your hand the rest of the throughout the process. So give them a call.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Go online at Stockton.com, NMLS, 8259, Equal Housing Lender. Let's go to Tristan. Go ahead, Tristan. Tristan. Good morning, gentlemen. Yes. Good morning, gentlemen. So two quick things. First, Ozzy, I hope he is resting in, uh, resting in peace wherever he is with Randy Rhodes and Alistair Crowley. So, uh, and also the second of all, uh, Matt, this is a guitar player. Yeah, sorry, that was badly worded.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Okay. This is an asking anything question. Matt, in the vein of things that you used to say that you don't say anymore, you used to freely grant quite a lot. And I was just wondering, did you start charging for freely granting or did you just stop giving away points in argument? I appreciate the call. I did say that quite a bit.
Starting point is 00:25:25 Pretty great. Yeah. Somebody wrote a minute ago about whether or not, Drew, you and I've had this conversation. We used to say things we would never say now. When I go back and look at the blog post, we wrote back and I can't believe I wrote some of that stuff. Don't you?
Starting point is 00:25:40 I mean, you know what I mean? Some of it's being young. Some of us the times are not blaming the times. but like, it was a different time. I even think about, and this is a famous example, like the hangover trailer,
Starting point is 00:25:49 the stuff that's in it. And I'm like, they put that in the hangover trailer? Yeah. It's just, I can't believe some of the stuff. Like, that's why I tend to give people
Starting point is 00:25:57 a little bit of a break when like, you see a clip of them saying something in like 2005 and you go, how could they say that? Well, I mean, I read some of the old blog post and I go,
Starting point is 00:26:08 I can't believe if I wrote that. But it was, you're right, we were younger, but it was also just a different time in the internet. Like the internet, the internet was a lot more, I don't know, it was different.
Starting point is 00:26:19 It was just, but I'm not excusing it, but it was just a different time. I'm watching the man show on Comedy Central. Yeah, the man show is a perfect example. Like, you could never have that now. No. And blogs were like that. I mean, you know, it kind of freaks me out to think we used to just like, Shannon, put a picture of a hot UK fan up on the top of the side.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Yeah, but back then, I mean. But back then, that's what everybody did. Right. And you can't apply everything to today's standards for what you did back then, because back then it was fine. Back then, that's just what everybody did. And now it's, I don't know. If you had a sports blog, like Barstool's doing Babe of the Day, I mean, I can name
Starting point is 00:26:59 50 websites. Everyone did that. We used to have Venetti's thong of the day at Foxrocks.com on the rock station every day. That's just, could you imagine the pre-show thong of the day right now? We should bring it back. We didn't even consider that. Boy, let's let's just leave it, leave it where it was. Tyler, go ahead, Tyler.
Starting point is 00:27:19 Hey, guys, following up with taking a trip down in memory lane over here. I'm calling the request a tell-all behind the scenes of the whole Calipari area, maybe on like a podcast or something. You guys did an uncensored podcast about seven, eight years ago. I think it's time for another one. Well, wait, I want to do that. Here's the problem with doing that. I feel like this is a very introspective episode.
Starting point is 00:27:43 I appreciate the problem with doing that is that people will take a clip of it and you can't, like when we did that uncensored podcast, I think the best piece of content we ever did. It was me and Drew and Beisner and the turkey hunter and Tomlin. And we ranked the top 50 players of all time and just told stories about them.
Starting point is 00:28:06 We couldn't do that now. Because it was like it lived in its own world. People listened to it, but they couldn't like take a clip. up on Twitter and they couldn't say, hey, can you believe Drew said this? So it could kind of live in its own world and it didn't get shared and like, and now I don't know, Ryan, you can do that. I don't know if you could do that stuff.
Starting point is 00:28:28 You can't do it in this day and age. So like, if I did it, we'd probably charge for it. But the thing is, it would end up online and then all of a sudden people would just hate on. Yes. And so, you know, it's kind of. I mean, just think about the moment we say something on this show. Think about that last year of Cal. You couldn't say anything without people getting upset.
Starting point is 00:28:52 And so I just don't think you could do those anymore. It's a shame because they were fun. That is the downside of clips. Even if it's something innocent. Like, I remember I was getting killed when we did the draft. I picked Ulyss over Shea. But in the clip, you don't hear our context of it's when they're at UK. So, like, sometimes our clips get out there.
Starting point is 00:29:08 And it's like, I wish you would hear the whole conversation with that video. But that's your point about bringing it back. content we ever did by far was that uncensored podcast. And you can still find it if you know where to look. It's hard to find, but you can still. It's worth it. It's, it is worth it. Like eight people buy it a month. So people do find it. We'll take a break of me right back. It's KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's John's.
Starting point is 00:29:45 That's one of the the guy I asked earlier about doing a podcast with the history. I feel like all the questions are coming from that. What person writes, Matt,
Starting point is 00:29:56 did you and Drew or Ryan ever feel like you were going to get hurt by something you said? Did everybody, anyone ever threatened to hurt you or do that? I thought I was going to get beat up
Starting point is 00:30:08 at the 2012 Final Four. Yes. We talked about that. Pre-game show. Oh, no, no, no, not then. That was 20. 14. Yeah, that's what I thought you were going to get hurt. No, I got cornered on Bourbon Street by a bunch of Louisville fans.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Oh, I wasn't there. Late at night once. During the Final Four in 2012. And I thought, they were drunk. I thought they're going to hit me. And they didn't. Six months ago. Six months ago was fresh.
Starting point is 00:30:38 That one's a little fresh. Parents been huge on keeping me from some of that stuff. Louis trip. St. Louis trip? Yeah. Yeah, when we were taping Hey, Kentucky. Yesterday, our friend Robert asked me about that. We were sharing movies.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Yeah, we were taping, hey, Kentucky, and a guy wouldn't get out of the shot. And I wasn't good to fight him, but Perrin almost did. Robert reminded me that he said, you want to dance, I'll be your partner. And then Perrin slowly took off his cardigan sweater and folded it on the table. Kentucky Derby, you were with me on that one when a guy wouldn't stop. And Parent almost did. I don't know if it's me or Perry. that does it because often the time's parents in. Have you ever been close?
Starting point is 00:31:18 The ones you mentioned, but nothing serious. Yeah. I like more of the messages because I'm weird. I kind of like the hate. At my old apartment, I had printed out mean tweets like in my hallway on like canvases of people telling us what they would do, but never in person. During the, during all the Katina Pau stuff, my mom would get nervous because there were people who knew where I lived. Yeah. And they would, you know, I came home once. When I was thinking about running for Senate, I came home once and I had like a threat
Starting point is 00:31:50 in my mailbox. I remember that. Yeah. That was a little concerning. I always thought the combination of a hardcore Republican and a Louisville fan. That was the one, Shannon, if they ever did it, that would be the, that would be the group to look at. Did you ever have that happen in your career?
Starting point is 00:32:05 No, but you've scared me to death a couple of times being around you. That pregame show in 2014. definitely is the one that I was really concerned. I went from behind the table, went out to the front of the table, trying to make sure to keep people away from you. That might be the show I'm most proud of in my life. Remember Tim Hedgstedt replayed it one time. They accidentally scheduled our pregame show in the Louisville pregame bar
Starting point is 00:32:28 and put it over the loudspeakers. Yep. And Shannon, I just channeled my Shannon the dude heel energy and just went at them for an hour straight. that I remember hearing it and it was top-nodged stuff. It was my favorite thing. I just was like ravishing Rick Rood. Look at all you
Starting point is 00:32:47 fat, out of shape, Louisville fans. Yeah, you're pointing at him. I was proud of I. I can't believe I did. And then we won, thank goodness. I should add, I was a little worried if we had to go back to Freedom Hall this year. I guess that would be my next time. You got punched in Freedom Hall last year. How are you not going to mention that? I forgot about it. You're the only person's ever gotten hit. Yeah. I almost said the guy's
Starting point is 00:33:06 name. If I could say it. You got punched in a TBT game. Yeah. By a guy wearing loafers. Yeah. Now, if you're talking about being scared about being threatened to be fired, I've been threatened to be fired a lot. The cow,
Starting point is 00:33:22 when the week between when we lost to Oakland and when Cal resigned, I was 90% sure I was going to be fired. You were down too. You were really down that week. There was a phone conversation with one of my bosses where they basically said it's going to be the UK contract or you. And I said, well, what are you all going to decide?
Starting point is 00:33:47 And he said, I hope we don't have to decide it. Which I think was code for you. You. Doing process of elimination there. I think it leaves you. Yeah. And then Cal left. If Cal doesn't leave, this show is probably gone.
Starting point is 00:34:02 I mean, or at least it'd be in a different place. I mean, we'd still do it. wouldn't be on iHeard because cal had you know he had said him or me and then we would have lost the duke in the champions classic which is crazy to me then it came to that point but it did there's one more we're on thin ice in hopkinsville yes that drive to hopkinsville oh dude oh oh i was in the car in the passenger seat you're having these conversations i'm just cringing like oh i wasn't in the car on that one yeah that was where they had announced hey Kentucky and I didn't tell my bosses.
Starting point is 00:34:39 They were not happy with that. And they basically were like, you're fired. And I said, well, okay. Whoops. And then we got through it. But you, you, Ryan was already like looking for employment. I was done. We checked into the hotel.
Starting point is 00:34:55 He's already up getting his link to our room. Brian was already on LinkedIn going, okay, I got this headshot I took. I'm in a yellow tie. It looks awesome. We got to a hotel checked in and 50. minutes there you call me like we got to go back to us home. Remember we're supposed to do a show in Hopkinsville and they brought us home? Yep.
Starting point is 00:35:14 So Bruce, go ahead, Bruce. Two real quick, ask anything Wednesdays. The first question is, do you think there's provisions in place now for the kiss cam for the lower arena of Rupp Arena? If you bring your mistress to Rupp Arena during a UK game, you deserve what you get. Get on the Snackwards Cam there. I mean, at this point, like Lexi doesn't. a small town. You bring your mistress, you're going to get caught. I got no, you know,
Starting point is 00:35:42 when you're in Boston or New York, maybe you think you won't be caught. If you do it in Lexington, then like, you're going to get caught, so it's you. And people do it. I see it. All right. I see the mistresses. I see the mistresses at Rupp Arena. And I know they're there. And it's like, are you, the snack words can may come for you, sir. But go ahead. And the second one is more of like a Matt Jones explains the law. The phrase, and I'm sure you guys have heard, possession is nine-tenths of the law. When did the law become fractions? Yeah, it's not, that's also not a real phrase.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Like, that's a phrase people say. So that is a mis- Yeah, that's not the law. That's just say that, but that's not the law. The law, the, I went to law school. read all those books. Possession is non-tenths of the law is not a legal phrase. Like that's not re- I mean, I know people say it, but it's not the law.
Starting point is 00:36:43 So you couldn't get on a witness stand and be like, Your Honor, ladies to Jim of the jury, our client here only had one tenth of a percent or of a practice. It's not a thing. No, it's not a thing. I appreciate the call. It's not a thing. Blake, go ahead, Blake.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Hey, guys. I've got two questions for you for asking anything. Wednesday in their kind of alternate universes. Matt, if you were like a hardcore Trumper and your fan base was more like liberal and Democrat, do you think the show would do as well? Like if it just switch positions. That's good question. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:19 It depends on. I'd have to handle it. There would have been times. There would have been times where it might have been harder because I think there have been times where Democrats were less open on those things. and then there are time, but it would all be how you handled it. I think Kentucky's unique. I think it'd be fine in Kentucky regardless because of the sports,
Starting point is 00:37:41 but like I think some shows might not do that as well. Could you do it in California? Maybe not, no. Right, right. And then my other question is alternate universe would be, if Cal had taken the UCLA contract, who would the coach have been for UK and where would we be right now? Shocker Smart.
Starting point is 00:38:00 That was who it was going to be. Appreciate the call. At that time, it would have been shock as smart. I've said this. There were many years there where Mitch always had the, this is going to be my first call. And then in the last couple years, that name became harder to get.
Starting point is 00:38:21 You know, I don't know what you think about this, but I think the swimming team issue made it to where those candidates got dropped in this one. Do you agree with that? I hadn't thought about that, but I'm sure that played it. That's never been said to me explicitly. But I want you to remember the timeline.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Mark Pope gets announced on a Thursday night. That swimming team story broke on Friday. They knew it was coming. They knew it was coming. And let's say we had hired somebody that was a little bit controversial on Thursday night. That's why those guys kind of got to. eliminated. I've always believed. This has never been said to me explicitly, and I'm not, I can't swear to this, but I've always believed that part of the reason that group of four guys got
Starting point is 00:39:12 dropped was because of that. Makes total sense. Do you think that could be true? Yeah, and I thought that in real time. I'm like, you, I didn't know anything, but I remember that brewing and then next thing you know, we're in Roperina and Mitch is in front of a microphone, and that was still kind of in the background, even though it hadn't really blown up yet. But if we had hired someone controversial, and then the swimming team story comes out. Yeah. I think it makes it different. So I think you hire like the cleanest guy you can hire
Starting point is 00:39:39 and then the goodwill starts. Again, that's not like official, but that's always kind of been my thought. Amy, go ahead, Amy. Good morning. My asking thing is for Ryan and Drew. I was wondering if you tell us about the awkward encounter or moment you had a week or so ago at the Swing for Soldiers event.
Starting point is 00:40:04 That has been asked a lot on the text machine. So, yeah, go ahead. So Drew and I are at the University Club doing our show, and we get there. They tell us we can have some people on. Jacob Tammy, yeah, we want him. One of the soldiers that benefited from the homes for the heroes, we want him. He said you can also have the leader, the guy that's in charge of the national president of the homes for the heroes.
Starting point is 00:40:25 We're like, eh. Well, they obviously told that guy he was going to be able to. on. So he came over to Drew, gave Drew a business card, and then set this close to us and just watched us, just so staring at waiting for his chance to come on the radio. And he'd tell us during the break, like, whenever you're ready. And he wasn't, like, associating with anyone else at the event for the entire second hour. So did you have him on? No. And guess who they blamed? Who? Producer. They said the producer said we ran out of time. He blamed me. I wasn't even there, and he
Starting point is 00:40:55 blamed me. I didn't blame anyone. I got him walked away. You wouldn't do. anything like that to me. I know you wouldn't. But Ryan did. No, I would just say, and I appreciate the call. This is not offense to anyone. But I am not, when we do remotes, I get
Starting point is 00:41:13 asked at 20% of the remotes, will you have on this guy whose business you're at? And my answer is always no. I'm sorry, no. It's not good radio. I'm not going to have on the guy that runs the construction company. I'm not going to have. If you have a chair,
Starting point is 00:41:29 I'm not going to have you on. I mean, I don't say that to be rude, but if I have you on, then I have to have everyone on. It's like when people send me and it breaks my heart, people send me, go fund me links and they say, this is someone,
Starting point is 00:41:41 can you please help them? And I want to help everybody, but I can't because if I send all of them, then none of them will have any meaning. You know? Yes. So I have to tell everyone no. And I hate it,
Starting point is 00:41:53 but like it's not personal. I'm not going to every week bring on this person where we are. So, and I've turned down, you know, I've turned down the mayor. Yeah. I have to turn down my friends. I mean, I love Craig. Craig. Craig said a couple times, you want me to come on. And I'm like, no. And then, you know, he's my friend. And I just, I just, I just don't, you know, you got to worry about making it entertaining. You can't just like try to sell all. If you try, if all you try to do is sell, and I'm about to sell right now. But if all you do is sell, like the show stops being good.
Starting point is 00:42:30 And I think at locations, people, their brain is just in that one spot. And they're forgetting there's so many people listening that have no attachment to where we are or whatever it is. So with that said, nothing says summer like the Draft King's sports book. Yeah. Pick a guy, go yard, hammer some live odds. The Reds play this afternoon. They better win.
Starting point is 00:42:46 They are falling apart. The summer of Ellie is dying. But here's something special for the first timers. New Draft King customers, bet five get 150 in bonus bets. Download the app. Use my code KSR. Get 150 bonus bets instantly when you bet just $5. It's draft kings.

From the WNBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why. Girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
Starting point is 00:45:32 It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecky. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals.

Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio. 859-28027. My text of the day comes from this 859-396 number where he says, Matt, the possession is nine-tenths of the law comes from the famous Supreme Court case of Finders v.
Starting point is 00:47:30 keepers. That's a great case. Nine-o decision. Another person writes, Ryder has a short memory. Didn't he get punched at South Carolina? Didn't he almost get hit by a car at Roosters? Yes.
Starting point is 00:47:45 The derby? The derby? First of all, you got punched at South Carolina in the jaw. Yeah. You nearly got a gun pulled on you in the Rooster's parking lot. Like you, you're having a selective memory.
Starting point is 00:47:59 Well, I thought we were talking about stuff. we were as part of the media, like part of our job. Roosters was part of the media. That was definitely we were after a show going to eat lunch. And the derby was part of the media. Derby was definitely part of the media. Yeah. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:12 One person writes, Matt, what is your happiest moment on the air and the one you have the most regret on? Happiest when my mom called after I decided not to run for Senate. Yeah, that was pretty cool. I wish I still had that clip. I went looking for it and I couldn't find it. We were all in tears after that. That was the nicest thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Remember that? Oh, yeah. It was fantastic. That was great. You could feel the love and her voice. I can't think of a moment on the air, but I regret like a ton of stuff. Just like I regret when I get mad at somebody or when I'm like short with somebody on the air. You know, I regret the cow relationship, like how it ended. I regret that we went like 12, 13 years, not having a relationship with TJ. Thankfully, that's good again. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:06 But that stunk. So, like, I mean, yeah. But you can't sit and wallow in it. But there's a book. If I were to give you my book of the year, there's a book that I bought a few weeks ago that I read in a night. It's called I regret almost everything. It's this book by this guy who ran restaurants in New York,
Starting point is 00:49:26 who I didn't even know he was. But somebody recommended me the book. it's 250 pages, best book I've read and not best memoir I think may have read ever. Really? And I don't even know this guy. He's just a guy who made restaurants in New York. His name's like Keith McNally.
Starting point is 00:49:44 And he like expresses all the things that he thinks he screwed up over the years. And I could completely relate to it. Now he's a little more depressed. Like I'm not depressed. But like highly recommend it. Yeah. But anyway, of course you regret things. How could you know?
Starting point is 00:49:59 not if you have a soul. This is live radio too. You're going to say stuff you wish you didn't. Sure. So yeah. Gigi, go ahead, Gigi. Hey, guys, first time, long time. Who are?
Starting point is 00:50:13 What's up? I've got a two-part question. Based on fan attendance, what is the largest annual Kentucky sporting events event that you have never attended? Sporting event. Well, okay. So derby is obviously one. what would be the largest what are large events in kentucky i know they don't have any more but
Starting point is 00:50:40 the nascar race i never went to it yeah i went to yeah can you think of what what what you got one in your mind gg like one that's that has a lot of people there what is it i do i do so imagine court days or hillbilly days converging on a dirt track in boone county so the 43rd annual north-south 100 is coming up here in a couple of weeks. I don't know what that is. It's like a dirt track race. So it's, yeah, it is the Lucas Oil National Circuit will be attending. And this one particular race is like outside of El Dora, it's one of the largest events in the country.
Starting point is 00:51:22 How many people will be there? I'm going to estimate 150, I'm going to estimate over the three-day event, maybe 150,000 people maybe. 150,000 people in Boone County. Yes, for this three-day event, over the course of the three days. And what's it called again? The North-South event? The North-South 100. Okay.
Starting point is 00:51:46 Do you know about this? First I've heard of it. So we gave the local Kentucky kid, Josh Rice, who is... Okay, well, I don't have time to preview. I just have like a minute left. But I appreciate the call. North-South 100. Never heard of it.
Starting point is 00:52:02 Not one time I've ever heard of that. You ever heard of that, Shannon? Nope. Me either. Me either. All right, quickly, John, 30 seconds. Hey, Matt, time forever. Who else?
Starting point is 00:52:16 Tell me, did anybody check the free throw shooting stats for Archie when he was in Kentucky versus Willie at Kentucky? I'm just curious, did we have the wrong guys shooting? That would be interesting. I bet Archie's a little better, but I appreciate the call. But Archie did struggle with free throws here sometimes. Yeah, I mean, I would be surprised if Willie shot better than Archie. I still wanted Willie taking it last night.
Starting point is 00:52:42 Well, it wasn't a good look when he fell. He was hurt. It's on the assistant. It was kind of funny, though, Shaden. If we had won, that would be a legendary fall. Archie did shoot 63% at UK. Maybe I don't remember being that bad. Wow, 63%.
Starting point is 00:52:57 If it worked, you had to keep doing it too next game. Yeah, well, you just keep falling. Every time Willie got fired, he got hurt. Thank you all very much. We will see you tomorrow. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
