Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, August the 4th. I'm Matt Jones on a nice day. Weather is calmed down in Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:02:51 and you can give us the show on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line. That's 859-2-80-22-80. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine 772-7-4. In this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, called T.J. I'll Make them Pay. We are about four weeks away from the first NFL kickoff,
Starting point is 00:03:10 or excuse me, college football kickoff, three weeks away from our reopening of KS Bar. And those are the two most important dates. The football season, I guess, drew 26 days away. It's one to six days. almost here. I had a good time watching this weekend with the excitement and to say it's less than four weeks away. Talking season's almost over.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Yeah, less than three weeks away from the first games. There are games that weekend on the 23rd. Yeah, Drew said there was a good crowd there for the open practice. So maybe people are starting to get excited about this team. Yes. I went to fan day because it was a day and I am a fan. Perfect weather. I got to say absolutely perfect after it had been 110 in Lexington for a week. And I was pretty surprised by the turnout. I really think they got probably even better than they expected, to be honest. They had a good crowd of fans there to watch the team do their usual open practice.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Well, it's good to hear, because I kind of thought that would not be the case. So I'm glad that I'm glad it is. Maybe there's getting some excitement. So two things I want to lead off with. One is all the football stuff from Friday, but we have to start with what happened in Bristol. So I was going to go, how happy are you? I was going to go until Thursday night I started to think, I'm not going to go. But even Friday, I was like, you know, if I get a hankering, and then I decided not to.
Starting point is 00:04:31 I hate it. I hate it because it looks like what a debacle in Bristol. Now, a lot of it is not anybody's fault. It didn't rain all day. It started raining 40 minutes before the game, kept raining, and then stopped once everybody got out of it. It literally rained for five hours. and it was the five hours that they wanted to play the baseball game. So to some extent, what are you going to do?
Starting point is 00:04:57 We can't change mother nature. But everything else seems like a disaster. Ran out of food. Ran out of hot dogs and buns. They're serving hot dogs with no buns. Yeah. I mean, just straight wiener. That was all you got.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Yeah. so you had two choices for drinks, Shannon, water or tequila. I'm going tequila on that one. Water or tequila. Then, you know, apparently long lines to get in. They only had four food trucks open outside of the place. So, like, they were apparently out the door. So it was just a cluster.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Ryan McGee was on ESPN with me. He said the problem was Major League Baseball ran the logistics. They didn't let Bristol Motor Speedway, who's used to it. That's just stupid. That's just stupid. I mean, you have an entity that knows how to do it and you don't let them run it. That's just stupid. Now, a lot of stuff look cool.
Starting point is 00:06:00 The track there look cool. Yeah. Right. I think they did an amazing job with the field. All those people in the crowd, it was going to be awesome. But then you just saw, okay, it just keeps lingering and lingering. And then they were like, clearly, we want to try to start it and just a debacle. It's play.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Don't even get through one inning. Didn't finish the first inning. Didn't even get through one inning. are lakes in the middle of the infield, the Reds start their starting pitcher and end up burning him because he can't pitch after one inning. He comes out and so then the Reds. And the thing was an important game for the Reds. They needed to win, end up losing the next day.
Starting point is 00:06:38 I kept getting messages all night from listeners who were there. And all they kept saying to me, Shannon, was you would hate this more than anyone on earth would hate this. I can't imagine being stuck there with 90,000 people. rain pouring down. Not enough shuttles to get people in and out of there. It sounded like an absolute mess. Lines every.
Starting point is 00:06:59 You know how much I hate lines. Traffic. There were apparently people still trying to drive out at three in the morning. This is what you get when you go to a place and you don't listen to people that are there. Right. Yeah. That's what you need to do. I've learned that with OVW when we would go to small towns.
Starting point is 00:07:14 That first year that I was running OVW, I'd go, well, we need to do this. We do that. And then sometimes people would say, well, you know, here in E-Town, this is how we do things. And I was like, well, what does E-Town though? But then by year two, I learned let E-Town tell you what to do in E-town, right? They should have done the same thing. So I was so disappointed.
Starting point is 00:07:38 I was disappointed because I wanted the world to get, I wanted it like for Ellie to get the attention. I mean, it was our teams, right? That was going to be, and it just ended up a disaster. It really was. I was so excited. It's the first full baseball game. I've watched in, or not in playoff game, and I don't know how long. I don't sit around and watch full baseball games.
Starting point is 00:07:56 So you did watch it Sunday? Pre-game started at 630. I was on my couch at 6 with the TV on Fox. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, then on Sunday at 1, I got up and watch it all. Gotcha. Because I'm weird, I kind of wanted to be there Saturday night. You did?
Starting point is 00:08:09 That's my kind of event. I like the chaos. Now, I would have been camping. I would not have been in, I wouldn't have been driving anywhere for one. But I would have been out there having a blast during the delay. but watching from home just utter chaos. And John Smolts and the crew, that had to have been awful,
Starting point is 00:08:26 just hours of live TV. They basically just had to Ryan just like talk for four hours. And clearly, my question is, did baseball have a backup plan? Clearly not. I mean, I know there's only so much you can do. You can't just build a roof. But they should have probably called the game early in the night.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Yeah. Right? and then said, all right, we're all going to come back tomorrow. Let's try this again. Or they could have said, well, we'll, you know, throw the first pitch at midnight. You know, I knew, here's what I knew it was going to be bad, Shannon. Terry Francona, I saw, they showed the interview at like 4.30. And he was like, they're like, you excited about this?
Starting point is 00:09:08 And he goes, well, you know, this is good for baseball. And so we're going to work through this. And that's when I thought, uh-oh. He kind of knew Disaster is coming and you could see it Anybody could check a radar Would know what's going to happen And I don't understand why they started the game
Starting point is 00:09:31 When like you said there are ponds of water Out there on the end What do they think was going to happen? I mean it was When they played that first inning It was pouring I don't understand I'm not a meteorologist
Starting point is 00:09:42 But at about 2 o'clock I pulled out my phone And I even said there's no way They're getting this in You could see it heading for Bristol a big blob. You can even like follow the clock to what it will be. I wondered why they didn't try to move it up.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Is pit bull that important? Because it was obvious to anyone that can look at a radar that they weren't playing baseball that night. All right. So you bring Tim McGraw. Think of all the choices of the music you could use with Tim McGraw. Yes. I mean, let's just name Indian Outlaw, where the green grass grows. Don't take the girl.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Don't take the girl. Whatever. Barbecue stain on my white t-shirt. Yeah, something like that. All these songs. They get him out there where they sing, truck, yeah. Is that as, no, that's an old song. That's an old song.
Starting point is 00:10:27 It's, Chuck, yeah. I hate that song with such a passion. And that was the Tim McGraw song. They decided, you know, Ozympic, new ripped Tim. They get him out there. Tuck, yeah. I hate that song so much. And then that's the one they choose to play.
Starting point is 00:10:45 I like it. I love it. Yeah. Another one. I mean, you can. He looked like Pitbull a little bit. Does he have Pitbull's haircut now? And he even mentions a Braves game in that song.
Starting point is 00:10:55 I like it a lot. I ain't seen a Braves game all here. Why would you not put that in there? I mean, hello. And then as soon as they put Pitbull out, that's when the rain started. Did you notice it was in the middle of the Pitbull concert? It was like the Lord was telling us something. Get the 3-1-1 or whatever his name is.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Mr. 305. 305. Why is he here? Fireball. I hate it for Bristol Motor Speedway. That could have been an opportunity to have this awesome night, this awesome event. Now they may never do it again. They're never going to do it again, right?
Starting point is 00:11:34 Like, they tried and then they're never going to do it again. And so much of it before it went absolutely chaotic with the delay, just the jerseys with the NASCAR numbers, the cars, the Braves mascot. blooper who's hilarious in itself. Just him doing all the stuff around the track. And when they were driving them around in the cars and then they're all getting drenched and having to act like they're enjoying them. Can you imagine how heavy those uniform forms were? And then when the Braves guy hit a home run to have the race car come out,
Starting point is 00:12:05 the home run car, that was cool. But you just can't do anything. Now, did you see the old man trying to throw the ball over the fence? No, I didn't see that part. This is a great moment. this was clearly like a ryan lemon person who thinks he's still an athlete but time is a baseball goes up on the track and someone in the crowd is saying throw it throw it and this old man is like okay and you can hear the announcers go he's not going to be able to get that over the fans there's no way and this old man goes and he throws it like 20 feet doesn't even get it too the fence. Because think about how high that fence is at Bristol
Starting point is 00:12:51 because they don't want cars going into the thing. That's a good video if you see it. The old man trying to throw a ball over the fence. I like that when the players, there's a video when they first come out and see that video board, they're just shocked. Like, are we going to hit that thing? It ended up being in foul territory a little bit. But that huge scoreboard hanging over them was pretty unique for
Starting point is 00:13:07 baseball too. And it got overshadowed a little bit, Shannon. But I don't know if you noticed when the game started how dark it was. Oh, yeah. Because in the pregame, Jeter Ortiz and A-Ros. we're kind of like, clearly they're there, they want to hype it up. But you could tell that they were like, hey, folks, there's a little bit of worry here. There ain't a lot of lights.
Starting point is 00:13:28 Again, like you had the entire season to prepare for this. Exactly. No, I mean, they literally said they were like, you could hear, I think it was A-Rod going, one of the things to watch is the lights are pretty far away from the field. And it might be hard for people to see the ball. You would have thought this was a pop-up game they had just planned the day before the way everything went down. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:13:54 I hate it because I was so excited about it. And it just didn't work. Because the football game they had there was a huge success. Everybody loved that. I was hoping the same would be for baseball. Matt, could you say that that baseball game was ridiculous as we tweeted? It was. That was really weird.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Did you see that? Shane and I tweeted the same thing at the same moment. Within like eight seconds of each other. Word for word. I thought you guys were hanging out or something. We were. It looked like, we were like, let's be tweet buttons. It looked like when someone runs multiple accounts and it kind of puts them all that same.
Starting point is 00:14:23 It looks like we share in the account. Well, it didn't work. And now the summer of L.E. is, I mean, it's not over, but it's pretty close. I mean, that was a big one. We're now four back in the wild card. We have the hardest schedule coming in. The Padres have one of the easiest schedules coming in. You know, I'm going to Pittsburgh this weekend to watch the series.
Starting point is 00:14:43 and it might be my goodbye for the week, for the year. Just because I can't keep doing this. I've been, you know, this has been, I've enjoyed it. I've had more fun watching baseball this year. But, you know, I got to start getting into football gear. And I feel like the Summer Valley. Well, the Reds have hung in there a lot longer than most people thought they were.
Starting point is 00:15:04 They got rid of Connor Joe finally, so that was nice of them. But it's probably, it's probably over. And I, I've enjoyed them. And most of these guys will be back next year. Like, I like this team outside of a couple people. But I think the Braves ended the summer valley, which makes me sad. Shannon, do we feel guilty about putting the nail in the coffin? No, absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:15:27 This is our Super Bowl. We get nothing else to play for this year. Yeah, that's true. You didn't. We did get the Bristol Cup or whatever that thing was. Oh, they gave a cup? Oh, big trophy. Yeah, for Eli White.
Starting point is 00:15:37 No, well, that's nice. Yeah, that dude. Who is that guy? He's the guy who plays the Coonia Jr. who just got hurt. They just gave him some random guy up. He hits 15 home runs. You got some random guy at third looking like Brooks Robinson out there
Starting point is 00:15:50 stopping every line drive. Yeah, Eli White had four home runs on the season. He had two in that game. I mean, look at that. He hits two. Our pitcher, did you see his story? He wasn't even in Bristol on Sunday. They picked him up in a car at 515 a.m.
Starting point is 00:16:04 And drove him to Bristol. Are you kidding? He drove 260 miles that morning from Georgia to get there. So he got called up to play that game. And his name's Waldrip. Kind of like Waltrip. Perfect. See.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Stupid. Waldrop ended the summer of Ellie. Yeah, the Summer Valley. It was the fun. I'm going to say, I can't be too. I enjoyed the summer. This was the most I've enjoyed baseball since Dale Murphy played. So I do.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Worth it then. Yes. 859-2802287. Text machine is 772-745254. We'll talk a little UK football. And then, you know, there's a lot of random stuff coming on, including the Long John's CEO replies to Kentucky Sports Radio. Have you seen this?
Starting point is 00:16:46 Long John CEO gets on LinkedIn and talks about KSR. Really? We'll be right back. KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kier Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person
Starting point is 00:18:20 while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing,
Starting point is 00:18:34 growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast. Learn the Hardway. Open your free Our Heart Radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud.
Starting point is 00:19:17 But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the Aihar Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them?
Starting point is 00:19:49 On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Leila Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
Starting point is 00:20:40 It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Truck, yeah. That's what they decided to play instead. Apparently they play, like they played this in the background during the intros, but in his concert, he played Truk, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:06 You would think this would be the one that, or anything else. Anything, he's Tim McGraw. He's got like a million songs. I guess they're trying to appeal to the NASCAR fans. Here's the thing. I said this on ESPN. When a country singer decides that the way to have a hit song
Starting point is 00:21:24 is to rhyme a word with a cuss word without saying it, then they're washed up. Here's the other way. When they have a song and they use a double entendre for bud, like badonka don't. That means your time has passed, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:21:40 And you're like, I got to have a gimmick song. Kind of with you on that. Like once you start doing that badonka donk and he ain't worth a shift and stuff like that. A shift work. Yeah, it's shift work. He ain't worth a shift. Like you just go, okay, dude, it's time for you to go to Renfrover Alley, do the old person tour.
Starting point is 00:22:03 When you go from like a great song like every light in the house is on to honky talk, boncadonka don't. Hongy talk. Bidonka don't. Okay. Cody says I was there and I can confirm they were selling nachos with no cheese for $5. Then they ran out of the chips, but the other booth still had cheese so you could buy cheese for $3 with no chips. Oh my goodness. They just drink that? Wow.
Starting point is 00:22:30 You get a straw? What were you supposed to do with that? With your finger? I mean, that's the world. But you might get to a point where you're like, I just take a big bowl of cheese. Maybe dip your bunless hot dog in it? I don't know. It's true.
Starting point is 00:22:43 You can buy the wiener and the cheese and dip and you got a good old fashion. They show those pictures of the concourse. People are just packed in there like sardines and they're wet and they probably smell and they stink. I'm so glad. All the shoulder to the shoulder. So before we go, the phone's UK football. We went to Media Day. I thought it was one of our most successful ones yet.
Starting point is 00:23:00 I'm not sure if that's going to equate to winning. You know, Mitch Barnhart's interview was great, had a lot of news in it. Mark's interview was really good. I thought the players were good. Shiaj Pete's interview. Mario put like a three-minute clip of it on TikTok. It now has 620,000 views. At this point, it is our third biggest video ever behind
Starting point is 00:23:26 Bronny James and us making fun of Louisville's uniforms for being wrinkled during that team picture. This kid, it got, it got like picked up by, like, Navajo Nation. Go read the comments on that TikTok. It's KSR the show TikTok. Go read the comments. It's all Navajos from Navajo Nation going, I love this guy.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Where can I get a Kentucky jersey? Like I'm on the Navajo algorithm because of this. Because of how much everybody liked that kid. When have we ever had a situation where the offensive lineman, Ryan, might be the most popular player on the team? And he proved it on the show there. That's what everybody was talking about this weekend was his interview with us. He just so genuine and sincere.
Starting point is 00:24:17 And you just feel you left liking the guy as a person, not as a player, but as a person. And on TikTok, just so you know, like when you see Twitter, like views and stuff, that's nonsense. Like they just, those numbers are made up, like Twitter views and videos. But the TikTok stuff I actually think is pretty real. You can, and 600,000 is a massive number for one of our videos. So like this kid, you know, it's interesting. He's going to have a huge platform and he's so soft-spoken and all that, but still kind of has that way about him.
Starting point is 00:24:48 Yeah, we have it crossed many college football players, if any, that are like him. My favorite part was when he talked about just how grateful he is and he cherishes every moment and he said, I'm even cherishing this right now with you. He did, right? He made a point to say our names. It was like, this guy really, it's not just him saying it doing the media speak. He really appreciates everything that's been put in front of him. So you watched them play?
Starting point is 00:25:09 I did watch them twice. I got two days. So what do you feel now? You've actually seen them, not just talking. I have a takeaway, I'm afraid to say into radio. Because there will be an overreaction and I don't want to be responsible for it. Well, I'm still the guy that has the video of going, it's not crazy to say they can go to the play. That's still out there.
Starting point is 00:25:27 That's not my overreaction. However, I've said this to many people I wrote on our website. Friday, at least on Friday. If I were just an alien, anybody, I don't know anything about Kentucky football's roster. I don't know the people. You just dropped me on that field, and I was watching football. Cudder Bowley was the better quarterback.
Starting point is 00:25:48 Now, that was only on one day. One day. You're not the only person that said this. One sample size. Calzada is going to be the starter. I'm not trying to put a competition here. But the gap between one and two is not big at all. You're not the only person that said that.
Starting point is 00:26:03 And Bowley was with the two, so he has a little bit of advantage. He's going against second string. I'm not trying to bench Calzada. please don't say out there, Drew's saying Bowley's the starter. But Cutter Bowley is a very good backup. I saw Cal's out. He didn't shake Drew's hand when he came over
Starting point is 00:26:17 Shannon and that's why he doesn't lie. I think it's because you called Nick. There was a disrespect. I may have called him Nick, but not to his face but before he got there. Both days, Bowley looked awesome. So what have you been hearing? What do you think? Well, Drew and I talked about this on the ride over here. I was told
Starting point is 00:26:32 Bowley will be the starter by the end of the season. By who? When you say that, though? Like, I mean, without the name? Like what kind of person we're talking? No, it's football. Well, that could be anybody. A football no. A football no. A football no. Yeah, you know, we talked about this a couple months ago and we talked about cutter bowling and I said, man, he's going to play. They're going to put a package for him.
Starting point is 00:26:52 I think he's going on the field early, just kind of get him ready just in case they have to make a move. Move aside from the quarterback. Did you think it look like a team that's more competitive? I'm pretty confident they're going to be much better than last year. I don't know what that means for the record because it's still the outrageous schedule we all know. But I will be shocked if we're not impressed with some improvements, several positions and overall a better product. Even, you know, culture has been the big thing. You could even see it in practice. They're all listening.
Starting point is 00:27:21 Nobody's goofing off. Even players are holding each other accountable. They looked like an operation that's together and wants to go win some games. But talent-wise, in that schedule in front of them, I don't know what that means overall. But I am almost certain that they're going to be better than a year ago. You could definitely tell, definitely, even just sitting there during the Media Day that the culture is better than it was. I mean, I was not at Media Day last year, so I do have to say, like, you got to consider that. But there is no doubt that when you were around anything football in the last two years, it felt it's sort of like when you go into a city or a town and it's like dirty.
Starting point is 00:27:59 And you just go, you know, what's happening at this place. It's very rare, if you think about it, to see a city. town that's flourishing that's also dirty and with windows broken and stuff. This, I'm not saying it was dirty, but it just felt like you could just feel this isn't totally coherent. People were walking. They were doing it. It didn't feel like that.
Starting point is 00:28:21 This felt more like it what it was really in the first six to eight stoop shears. Now, that's how it felt in the first couple stoop shears and we still stunk. But then we got good. Yeah. Right. But it did feel like what they all talked about. whole culture thing. I think that's going to be better. Whether we win more or not, I don't know, Ryan, but I do think that's going to be better. And I felt like that was the old Mark
Starting point is 00:28:42 Stoops that we had on the show on Friday. He seemed like the old guy that was kind of back to business man. He's not messing around anymore, not jerking around. He's out there to win the football games. Yeah. So, and you know, thank you to Shiage Pete for giving us, like we have a new Navajo Nation fan base. I think Kentucky will too. They should sell his jersey. Oh, absolutely. If you just look at that comment section, They should sell his jersey. There are a lot of people that would buy it. We'll take your calls ready for this.
Starting point is 00:29:11 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. It's court.com. That's KORT.com, the power of physical therapy. The surprise hit movie of the weekend was naked gun, made $30 million.
Starting point is 00:29:48 It's only projected to make 10. It's gotten amazing reviews. People saying it's one of the funniest movies that's come out in a theater in years. This is the one with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson. I love the old naked guns in the past. Do you want to see the new? naked gun got like a 95% on rotten tomatoes. See, that's in my wheelhouse.
Starting point is 00:30:10 I love naked gun. I like movies like this. So is Liam Nielsen supposed to be the son of Leslie Nielsen? I don't know the plot. I think so. I think he's the son. I believe so. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:21 I watched Naked Gun 1 last night to get ready. And tonight I'm going to watch two and a half and then 33 and a third, which is the third one. You think you need to know the other ones? I love those when I was younger. I had all three of them on VHS, played them all the time. I can't wait to see it. You want to watch it?
Starting point is 00:30:34 Yes, and the reviews have only made me more excited. See, I had no interest in it, but if it's so good, like people are talking about how there are theaters where everyone's cracking up. Like, I like seeing a comedy where other people are laughing. It just makes the atmosphere fun. But there aren't many of those anymore that come out that do well in theaters. Shannon, are you interested in the new Naked Gun? Yeah, I feel like I need to go back and watch Barb Wire first to get ready for it.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Yeah, I'll let you borrow it. Naked Gun also had one of the more embarrassing moments of my life when that was a comedy Larry and I shared an enjoyment of. Larry liked the silliness. And I liked it as a kid. And when I was in high school, I guess, I don't know if it was two and a half or 33 and a third. One of them came out in the theaters.
Starting point is 00:31:18 And Larry took me and DJ. And one of the early scenes, there's like a shadow and then someone, something grows on someone and we'll just leave it at that. Do you remember what I'm talking about? Yes. and that was uncomfortable with Larry
Starting point is 00:31:36 sitting there because he and I it was uncomfortable and so it was hard for me to enjoy the movie because I was embarrassed in front of him I was like an eighth grade or ninth grade or something like that in the trailer it looks like they recreate that scene a little bit. A young Drew Franklin
Starting point is 00:31:54 was a big fan of Priscilla Presley wasn't that who it was? I'm not going to go with Larry. He'll have to see that one on his own. I think they run that scene back. Okay. All right. Well, I remember distinct. DJ and I've talked about distinctly sitting in that theater and wanting to be anywhere else on earth than in that theater at that moment. I want to see it. Orvin, go ahead, Orvin. Yes, hi, Matt. I was at the game on Saturday. Oh, you are. Okay. Yes, and let's just say it was total chaos. It was a mess. They ran out of a whole bunch of stuff. They ran out of merchandise for Atlanta and Cincinnati. They even ran out of ponchos, which is essential in the rain delay.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Oh, that's terrible. So they ran out of merchandise. That would seem like the one thing they would, there's no way they would run out of. They still did. Exactly, exactly. It was a group of six of us. We flew from Pennsylvania and then we drove four hours to the game.
Starting point is 00:32:53 And it was like a six-month trip that we planned about six months ago. And yeah, it was total chaos. Did you still have fun, though? Sometimes in a miserable atmosphere like that. if you're with your friends, you can still make a way to have fun. Drew was saying that earlier. Did you have fun still? Yeah, because I got enough alcohol in me, so yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:12 That's what I would think. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would have hated it. You know, part of the problem, I appreciate the call, is about moving the game to the next day, is they didn't have anywhere for the teams to stay, which you would think in 2025 would not be a problem, but because both teams had planned on flying home after the game,
Starting point is 00:33:30 and because Bristol's a small place with not a lot of hotel, else. They didn't have anywhere for the teams to stay. So what did they do? I don't know. I never heard. The Reds and Braves were both going to fly home immediately after the game. But I don't know what. Did they just open up people's houses? Like this was an AAU tournament?
Starting point is 00:33:47 Quartering soldiers, you can quarter Braves and Reds. Yeah, they made you quarter Reds. All right, ma'am, Ellie Day, La Cruz will be in your bedroom. I'm sorry, you're going to have to do. I don't know what they ended up doing. I don't either. I was wondering that during the lay. Like, do they have plans for this? but I guess it's camping. Maybe you're just in your RV and you get a knock.
Starting point is 00:34:04 And there's Ellie with a little teddy bear in his blanket. Like, hey, can I get a bed in here? Yeah, scoot over. Andrew Abbott is going to be sleeping here tonight. Interesting. My friend's Bubba that went to the game with his son. Your friend Bubba? Bubba from Kentucky Wesleyan.
Starting point is 00:34:18 You have a friend named Bubba. That's what we call him. Scott Kramer. He's Bubba. Why did you start calling him Bubba? Because he looks like a Bubba. So he's fat? No, he's not fat.
Starting point is 00:34:27 He looks like a Bubba. Bubba's are supposed to be fat. There are no skinny. He has a cherubic face. Okay, so that's what I thought. See, so you actually took a non-overweight person named them Bubba to make them feel bad about themselves. He was our first basement. He wasn't overweight.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Okay. But he went, he was so miserable. They stayed in the night and just got up the next morning and drove home. They didn't even go to the game Sunday because it was just such a miserable experience. Well, you could see in the crowd. There was a lot of people that had not come back. Noah, go ahead, Noah. I got a challenge for you.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Okay. Do you try. So, so this fast season. from Mark Pope ends with now 16 years since the beginning of John Kyle Perry's era
Starting point is 00:35:10 so starting from first with John Wall and all that now 16 years of Kentucky basketball I want you to try to rank each team or basically
Starting point is 00:35:18 take a tournament style maybe like the NBA style of like 16 teams and rank either in like from either one to eight on both sides or like two sets of one through four
Starting point is 00:35:30 rank each one of the Kentucky teams and then put it through either a single elimination like March Madden or that would take a long time and people would need to see the bracket but I appreciate the call but I can't I'm fine ranking the teams I mean we've done this before but if you take since Cal got here what are let's just say the eight best teams I'm just going to go in order the best team since Cal got here I don't care what anyone says is the 2015 team it was better than the 2012 team I love the 2012 team but the 2015 team was better I know they
Starting point is 00:36:01 didn't win I don't care they were better They were better. The 2015 teams first, 2012 is second, 2010 is third. I feel very confident. Those three, to me, are on another level than everybody else. 2017, for me, is four, Fox, Monk, and Bam. I think they're pretty strongly four. And then when you get to fifth, there's a lot of different directions that you could go.
Starting point is 00:36:26 I tend to probably say 2011 is fifth. By the end of the year, I think that team was kind of rolling. and so for me they're fifth. And then sixth, okay, where do you want to go? I think there's an argument for the COVID team where the tournament ended, right? Wouldn't you say with Quickly and all those guys? I think there's, I probably would end up putting the team that lost in the elite eight
Starting point is 00:36:51 to Auburn, the Tyler Hero, Kelton Johnson team. I'm probably going to put them sixth, put the COVID team seventh. and then I put the 2014 team who I know they got went on a great run but that team struggled a lot of the year eighth. Probably put our team last year, ninth.
Starting point is 00:37:12 I'd love to put the Oscar team that lost to St. Peters because they were so good during the regular season. Probably put them, well, no. I'm going to put the team that lost in the Sweet 16
Starting point is 00:37:25 to Kansas State, 10th. Yeah. Oscar team 11th. Murray, U. 12. Now, who's left? 13 COVID team, the one we didn't miss the tournament on,
Starting point is 00:37:41 Cal's last team. And who else? What's the other one I'm missing? The team that lost Oakland? Was that not the same? That's second. Oh, no, no. The Kansas State, second second Kansas State lost team. Yeah. Right? Well, the worst team is the COVID team. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Norlands is 15, or the Nerlands team without Nerlands would have to be 15th. Then I guess you would say the team that lost to Kansas State and then the team that lost to Oakland is probably 14th. So there's your 16 teams. That's not a bad ranking though. And I can't believe I remembered all those teams. But do you like those, that list?
Starting point is 00:38:23 Yeah, and actually yesterday I did a deep dive on the 2019, lost to Auburn. Kentucky should not have lost that game. They're a five-point favorite. Auburn's best players in a wheelchair. And then we get Virginia versus Texas Tech. championship game. We don't talk about that team.
Starting point is 00:38:37 That was one of Cal's bigger choke jobs. Yes, it was. You could make an argument. That team was better than the brand in the high team. I mean, I think you could make an argument for that. I had forgotten how bad that Auburn loss was. They had no business losing that game. I think that's good.
Starting point is 00:38:50 I think that's my 16 in that order. I feel very confident about the top three and even number four being Fox, Monk, and Bay. fifth is where you can kind of start putting teams where you want, depending on what you like. I feel pretty good about night fifth, and then I agree that team that lost the Auburn's probably six. Also watch the Calipari Press Conference about the Auburn game. I regret that. That just made me mad on a Sunday.
Starting point is 00:39:16 It was everybody's fault but his, you know, typical. But they did play bad, but the press conference didn't make me feel better. I don't know why I did that yesterday. That was the game where Jamal Baker was playing well and then he fouled on that three, which was a bad play. But if we took everyone out that fouled on a. a three in the Cal era, Mario would be the only person left playing. Like everyone fouled on threes in the Cal. And then he didn't put Jamal Baker back in the game.
Starting point is 00:39:39 Drew and I were sitting right behind the bench and Cal yelled his assistance. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's done. He's and he was playing pretty good defense in that game as well. He's done and never put him back in. Didn't even consider it. He did the same thing to what's his face in the Kentucky Carolina game in 2017. Who was it? Was it Derek Willis? It might have been Derek Willis. There was somebody that he like in the first minute goes,
Starting point is 00:40:14 he just got in his mind sometimes that that dude's out. And I'm not playing him again. And he was like that with Derek Willis for a lot of his career. And then finally Derek's senior year, he started to kind of believe in him a little bit. It took him a long time to get there with him. It may have been Derek Bullis that North Carolina. He would take guys that he didn't think were tough.
Starting point is 00:40:34 That was his thing, tough. And if he didn't think you were tough, you were done. Marcus Lee. Alex for a couple years. Alex for a couple years. Jamal Baker was like that. He just had guys in his mind that, like, you're not tough. And if you're not tough, I'm not playing.
Starting point is 00:40:52 And some of that I understood. But some of it I thought was unfair to those guys because he'd make it to where they didn't have a chance. In the Baker game, Ashton Hagan's had seven turnovers, quickly and Hero were like four for 20-something, and Baker had three minutes. I mean, just not even a chance to go in there and do something.
Starting point is 00:41:08 And I think he had been really good than that. He'd been good for a few weeks. And he was good in the few minutes he played. He just committed that one foul. And then that was that was it. 859-280-2287. We will take a break very back. KSA.

It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs, Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. I mean, embarrassing so. like literally I mean I don't support just arresting people for their beliefs
Starting point is 00:45:30 but maybe this one somehow this was a hit no it was a huge hit yeah because people like terrible things that's true they still play it in a bar people still go crazy for this song yeah I mean people like like more like what was a member
Starting point is 00:45:45 I love Toby Keith but his red solo cup like the more stupid like there's one of these that comes out every year There's one of these just insanely dumb songs. Chew it back and chewed it back and chewed it back and spit. That's another one.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Like there's another one. If you have one, I'd like to just read them and get angry. 772-745254. I hate those little gimmicky. She thinks my tractor sexy. Red necker than you? Oh, rednecker than you. I mean, just such insanely stupid songs.
Starting point is 00:46:22 What does that say about us as a society? that we're dumb. I mean, there's no doubt about it. We're dumb. We get like, we get just completely, you know, look at this shiny thing over here. Okay. Wow. Rednecker than you. No, I mean, listen, I fall for some of it, but I do not fall for it on the country music. On the opposite side, I drove to Middlesbrough Friday night and then back Saturday. And on Saturday, I was like, you know what? I haven't listened to Purgatory by Tyler Childers in a while. That's the best album of all time, in my opinion. I'm going to go ahead and say not one bad song. I mean, I haven't played white. I hadn't really listened to White House Road much. That's, even though it's his most popular song by Tyler, that's an awesome song. Especially when you're driving through Eastern Kentucky. It's a good car song.
Starting point is 00:47:11 You're right. It's like drives, the beat drives like your car drives. Because he's got women up and down this creek. Yeah, you're looking around up and down the creek. I'm going up and down the creek. You're passing version. I'm passing all those women. Not stopping.
Starting point is 00:47:25 That's right. No, no, no. Did you see the video, Shannon? I thought of you because the Saudi Arabian amusement park where the ride falls down. Oh, yes, yes, I have. Yeah. Have you seen it? Oh, it's so scared.
Starting point is 00:47:42 Yeah. It could happen anywhere, anytime. Well, as I saw that video as I was driving down the road and saw them moving amusement park rides. As Nate Bargazzi says, I refuse to get on something that just a few hours before was on the interstate. And he's exactly right by that. I don't understand how it's, again, 2025. Why are we putting our kids on the puk machines at county fair season? It is. It is. But that Saudi Arabia one, it's awful. Like, it falls and it could have been worse. Like, they don't land on their head. What if they had landed on their head? They're dead.
Starting point is 00:48:19 They're dead. I mean, they just kind of land on their butt. And I saw a few people broke their legs. but like it could have been so much worse. And it's not just the rides. And sorry, I don't mean to call it anyone individually if you run these rides, but it's either a teenager that you're putting your child on there with or someone who you would probably never let babysit your kid. Yes. I think that should be your standard. Look at the person running the ride.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Would you leave them alone with your child for more than five minutes? If the answer is no, how are you going to put your child on a thing? that they drove there. Yeah, I mean, I don't mean that to be rude. But no. And I never liked them. What were the names of some of them? You had like the...
Starting point is 00:49:03 I would get on the Gravitron. What was the one where they would throw you to this? Scramble. Scramble. Yeah. That was the one everybody always wanted to do. I'm out. And that video just made me more out.
Starting point is 00:49:16 Freebird. Go ahead, Freebird. Hey, guys. I tried and tried to get into you all last week. I was up in New York City. on a work reward, went to the Yankees game
Starting point is 00:49:30 against the race. Man, that Yankees Stadium they sell out every every game. It's awesome. And the neighborhood around there, the neighborhood around there,
Starting point is 00:49:39 if you ever go to a Yankees game, just remember Uncle Matt said this, the food in the neighborhood, like the blocks surrounding it, there's like Jamaican food. There's like all this, you know what I'm saying, Mario,
Starting point is 00:49:50 there's all this ethnic food around it. You can get the best food. And I will say, it's the opposite of the rides. The dirtier it looks, the better it is. Okay? The more, like, the more, the worse it looks on the outside, the better the food actually is on the inside.
Starting point is 00:50:09 But go ahead. I was just in all. I'm sure I know you've been there, but looking up at the skyscrapers, I just, it's hard for me in my mind to fathom people standing there and watching those planes go over and hit those buildings. We went to the fountains. It's very, very somber, man.
Starting point is 00:50:27 It just... Dude, I'm with you. I'm totally with you. If you stand, I thought... It's interesting you say that, Freebird. Appreciate the call. If you stand at the bottom of the highest towers in New York, and you sit there and think what it had to be like on September 11, 2011, to look up and see them on fire or whatever,
Starting point is 00:50:51 I can't even process in my mind. what that had to be. Because those buildings are so tall. And then when you think about, and this is not to me to morbid, but when they start falling. Yes, people jumping out. I mean, just the smoke, like it would take, it took blocks and blocks and blocks. It is hard to wrap your mind around when you go and you, because you can see people
Starting point is 00:51:15 go, oh, it's a hundred stories away. Stand at the bottom of it and look up. It's like, whoa, you know. To think how far away you'd have to be to not. be impacted somehow. I mean, we all know that the smoke did. There's those videos of people just running in stores and closing the door and you just see the smoke go by and you can't even see out of them.
Starting point is 00:51:31 It's crazy. Absolutely crazy. Let's go to Chris and, or no, Brooke. Excuse me, Brooke. No, Chris in Florida. Well, whatever. We'll get to you in a minute. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Brooke. Hey, guys. How are you all today? Good. We got a minute. Okay. So over the weekend, I saw an ad for the converse denim blues were coming back out. Do you think, do you think, do you think?
Starting point is 00:51:54 that that's a precursor for the denim uniforms. It's awesome, though. I hope so. For people who don't know, the 96 Converse denim shoes are being re-released. And if you don't think I'm buying them, you're wrong. She's right. Don't you think that is a precursor that cats are going to wear them?
Starting point is 00:52:12 They're ugly. Don't get me wrong. Those are ugly, clanky shoes. I don't think our players can play in them. But I'm going to have a pair just for history. But Nike, which now owns Converse, is re-releasing the 96 Kentucky denim shoes. that's kind of amazing. I'll have them too.
Starting point is 00:52:25 I had them went to 96. I had the Converse blue t-shirt at Petino's Camp. Yes, and that means we're wearing denim jerseys. Exactly. We are, and I cannot wait. It should be a lot of fun. 859-280-2287. We'll come back, hour number two.
