Starting point is 00:03:04 and where today, we're in the show 50% off all sunglasses, which is an amazing deal. I just walked in there. You could walk out of here with sunglasses for like $30 if you go in there because with the discount. We're giving stuff away throughout today, including gift cards and et cetera, and getting ready for a big weekend where most of us are headed out of town
Starting point is 00:03:26 and Shannon's playing at Manchester Musical. That's right. I'm going to be right here in Lexington. You guys are leaving me, but you were very nice to let me just stay at your house. Yeah, you said you didn't have anywhere to go. I just gave you access to my house so you can have, first of all, look at all the shoes. You have access to my house, you know, unsupervised. I'm going out of town. I'm going to try all your shoes on and hang up some pictures for you. Yeah, your feet are too small. If you did that, that would be nice to be going up some pictures for me. There's some on the ground. Okay. 859-280-2287 Shady Rays has the best sunglasses. Premium polarized shades.
Starting point is 00:04:02 They're an American-owned company right here in Kentucky. Great crowd here this morning. And we're in the boozy shopping center, Drew. You know you're in a book. You got yoga right there. You can get a blowout right there. This is everything you would want to do to be. But you got markets.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Nails done down there. Yeah, exactly. You could come here. Lulu Lemon. Oh, it is great. If you are 35, 45, 40 years old and you want to meet a rich husband, you could just spin your whole time right here. Well, I don't want to sound like I'm bougie, but I come here every Sunday. I go to Whole Foods, get my groceries for the week, do a little walking around.
Starting point is 00:04:43 Oh, yeah, for Whole Foods, didn't he think about that? Yeah, lots of good restaurants around her, sunglasses, even though it's opposite side of town for me. I really like to sum it out here. It is beautiful out here. 859-280-2287. You know what? The guy asked me for the show if I had a lot of topics, and I had a couple things I was going to do to start. And then a story came out this morning that I actually thought was probably the most interesting story. I don't know about you, but I've always wondered, Ryan, you know, we have a Kentucky has a deal with Nike.
Starting point is 00:05:11 I've always wondered, like, how much do we make from that? Because we've been a Nike school forever. Well, the Herald leader, big shout out to John Hale. He got the information. And UK has extended their deal with Nike for 10 years. and we have the specifics. And so, have you read the article yet? I've not.
Starting point is 00:05:27 All right, so I think this would be a good chance for you to guess. I want you to guess in the new deal with Nike, how much does Kentucky get paid a year to wear the swoop and to have all of its gear made by Nike? 56 million. A year. No, no, a total. The total year.
Starting point is 00:05:47 Okay. So what, 5.6 a year? You think it's $5.6 million a year? All right? What about you, Shiam? I'll go $15 million. $15 million a year? Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Well, you're way off. I had no about until this deal, guess what we were getting paid before? $1.8 million a year. Wow. That was it. $1.8 million a year, and then they gave us a $1.7 million bonus. So basically we're getting $3.5. Now, under the new deal, we get $7 million a year.
Starting point is 00:06:21 so they ended up adding it $5 million more, $7 million a year. And instead of that $1.7 million bonus, Kentucky gets 15% of everything you buy that has that Nike, that has the Wildcats logo on it, 15%. Now, I don't know how much that is, Drew, because we've apparently not gotten that in the past. But that would strike me as being more than $1.7 million year. That's just a guess, but I just look at this crowd, all of you. you pretty much have something on the gear that says Kentucky on it. So 15% of everything that has it on,
Starting point is 00:06:58 I'm just, this is a complete ballpark, but I'm going to guess, what, 10, 11 when all that gets added up? What do you think? Sure, it sounds good to me.
Starting point is 00:07:08 I have no idea, but that's just a guess. In reading the article, I was actually surprised that they didn't get a cut in the past and they just got a flat. This is what you get for the year. I would think moving forward, it's going to be a lot more profitable.
Starting point is 00:07:17 And there were a lot of incentives we didn't have before. Let me get to those. So there was a lot of other stuff that came in there that I thought was interesting. So you get Shannon $250,000 for winning the national championship in football. Okay. One of the chances we get that during this 10-year deal? Zero. Zero, okay.
Starting point is 00:07:38 But this should tell you how much football is what drives it. How much do we get for winning a national championship in basketball? $50,000. So Nike values a national championship in basketball. one-fifth as much as football. That kind of surprises me, because while football gets huge ratings, it doesn't get five times the ratings for, like, a national championship game. Every other sport, so women's volleyball, women's softball, baseball, baseball, whatever.
Starting point is 00:08:06 You win a national championship in that? $25,000. So they basically value those sports half. So that's the big picture. Now, Drew has always been, he's convinced me, on the, it ain't my money, it doesn't matter. But I do think it's interesting to compare it to other schools. Okay?
Starting point is 00:08:27 So we've, we have, I've sort of come up, I think Kentucky's probably looking $11 or $12 million a year. Guess who gets the most? Do you know who gets the most? No. Ohio State. Would you like to know how much Ohio State gets a year from Nike? Remember, we get, I'm guessing, 11, let's say $11 million.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Ohio State, 25 million. My goodness. Wow. Now, here's the thing that frustrates me, Drew. Adidas, as you know, paid the most of any school in the country. Their biggest one that they pay the most is Louisville. Guess how much Louisville gets from Adidas? $16 million a year.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Wow. Which means Louisville is getting $5 million a year more to wear Adidas. then we're getting, at least by my guesses, to wear Nike. Time to switch to Adidas. Well, that was what I was going to ask. What do I care what the logo is? Well, so the people that would make the case for Nike would say, first of all, Adidas gear sucks if you've ever worn it.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Like, it's the worst. I mean, I have a couple things of Adidas. They always fall apart, and they're not as cool. Secondly, there are players, Drew, you know this, that the Nike thing, the Adidas thing for Louisville keeps them from going. I mean, Louisville fans think if they lose this Tyron Stokes, Tyron Stokes, the number one player in the country, it'll be because he's a Nike kid.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Is there any argument that you should take a company like Adidas? It could be new balance, it could be whatever, in order to make that extra money, or do you say, look, we may get less, but we're part of the Nike brand? Not at Kentucky. You're Nike's best basketball school. You and Duke, maybe 1A and 1B. I feel like going the other brands is something you do
Starting point is 00:10:16 if you're a little more desperate and farther down the totem pole, like a Maryland with Under Armour, even though that's local, you're just trying to reach and build a different brand. But when you're Nike and Kentucky and you're the gold standard, you need to wear the gold standard. And I think most kids consider Nike that in athletic wear. Ryan, I already know what you'd do. Whoever paid you the most money is where you would go.
Starting point is 00:10:36 There'd be no other consideration. Like you could have, like, a company that no one's ever heard of. You would take that, am I right? Absolutely. You take that, bro. random make it cool though right right yeah look at it if can anyone could do it if i'm wearing adidas people gonna be buying adidas baby they are yeah if you are if i'm wearing it yeah look at me of course what are you wearing right off what is that's that's
Starting point is 00:11:00 quite a look yeah yeah those are from the old contract i think i think that's probably what do you think shannon is there any ego hit to the fact that Louisville gets $5 million more a year than we? Yeah, I think that there is. And again, I know players value Nike versus Adidas for me personally. It wouldn't matter to me. It would go to the highest bidder. So if Adidas is going to give me $5 million more to put on their gear, why wouldn't you do that? Unless you're going to lose players. Now, that's what it comes back to. That's the other side of this argument. Well, you lose players because of that. I think you would. In basketball, I don't know if it makes any difference in football.
Starting point is 00:11:43 But I think in basketball, Drew, there are guys we would not have gotten over the years, especially when Cal was here. There are guys we would not have gotten if we were not at Nike school. Adidas is not a basketball brand. I mean, they have good stuff. Name their biggest Adidas endorsement. Adidas. Name the best basketball player. I guess Anthony Edwards maybe.
Starting point is 00:12:01 But with Nike, you have Booker. You have so many U.K. alums where you can tie that in. It's already Kentucky and Nike are already connected in so many ways. Adidas is a European brand that does a lot of soccer. like basketball is second. I'm amazed they pay Louisville what they pay. I don't really know what they get out of that. But maybe just to say, because they have Kansas and Louisville.
Starting point is 00:12:23 That's kind of what they have. But kind of going off Drew's point there, if I'm Kentucky, that's where I go in and go, hey, we can be the biggest names for Adidas. Well, they did that, by the way. That's what they did with media rights. So our media rights, for all the complaints you hear me do about JMI, sometimes, etc., which, by the way, I think a lot of that, stuff's better. But the reason JMI got our media rights is Kentucky did that with media.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Everybody was with IMG, and everybody was kind of getting paid on a formula. And Kentucky went, and there was this new company called JMI that said, we will blow these people out of the park, just go with us. And so they did it. So, Drew, they've shown they would do it on something else. Yeah, I just don't think you can give up what you have now. I mean, Kentucky's the first to get the new Kobe's. I mean, there's so many things that Kentucky benefits from Nike, and that's what the kids one. Stokes is a great example. If he doesn't pick Louisville, it's probably going to be Kentucky or, God forbid, Arkansas, both because of a Nike connection over Adidas.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Yeah. Well, I found it interesting. I also think it is interesting shows you how much more money is in college sports. Ten years ago, our total payment from Nike was $3.5 million. Ten years later, we're looking at $11 to $12 million. So in 10 years, the cost or the worth of college sports, at least in the eye of this publicly-traided corporation that has to answer to shareholders, the cost is four times what it was 10 years ago, right? Which, you know, if we all think, man, tickets cost more, everything costs more,
Starting point is 00:13:52 you're right. And here's an example. It costs four times more in 10 years than it did before. You know, old guys like me probably think it doesn't matter, the shoe doesn't matter, the logo, the brand. It 100% absolutely matters. And that's a perfect example. What has happened to it? The brand you wear makes a huge difference, especially the players you have now and the players you're recruiting. I think it matters now more than ever, too, because they're signing these deals in high school. Like, DJ Wagner was on the cover of Nike stuff before we even got to Kentucky. Stokes is the same way. There's other examples.
Starting point is 00:14:23 It's going to be big in recruiting moving forward with NIL. So now, so that's going to go forward with Kentucky. Also, we got to see a little bit more on the basketball thing. I was looking at the schedule, Shannon, in terms of the home SEC schedule. And it is the most balanced I've ever seen in terms of, so as a restaurant owner, here's a little secret. I look when the schedule comes out, and I'm rooting for Saturday home games, and I'm rooting for midweek road games. Right? I want Saturday home games because that gets a huge day of stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Midweek road and home doesn't make a huge difference. In years past, like we have had an imbalance. Maybe we would have six Saturday home games, only three or road or whatever. This year, and the SEC put out an announcement yesterday, they said they tried to balance it, wherever, because coaches have complained. Every team has five Saturday home games, five road games. Every team will have the same amount of nine o'clock games this year. I like that.
Starting point is 00:15:27 You remember because we sometimes it's felt like because we were in that prime slot, we'd get all these nine o'clock games. Every team will have the same one. it looks like they're trying to make it more balance, which I'm for. Yeah, I like that they're making a concerted effort to do that and not put Kentucky on these nine o'clock prime time games because they draw better ratings. But it's tough on the fans a lot of times. You know, a midweek game at nine o'clock is not over to 11 o'clock. If you're driving outside of Lexington, you may not be home until midnight.
Starting point is 00:15:51 So I like the balance of the game. A midweek, I mean, again, completely on a selfish level, a midweek road, nine o'clock game is like a desert from the bar. Sometimes for a seven o'clock, it's okay. but for a nine o'clock you can forget it but i also think if you look at our schedule right it is the most balanced but i continue to think man we have all of our hard games on the road and all of our easy games at home which i think makes it hard to hit the ceiling of a record we want like i think it's going to be impossible to go like 16 and 2 but i also think right it means our floor you remember last year we were flirting with 500 a lot of the year
Starting point is 00:16:32 I don't think that's going to be the case this year because our home games outside of Florida and Tennessee are actually pretty easy in the SEC play. Yeah, maybe balanced in time slot and day of the week. N-8 balanced an opponent. And every year, Kentucky's going to play twice, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and whoever probably the best team is in the league. Last year it was Alabama. This year it's going to be Florida. But I still think that's relatively balanced. I mean, no offense to Shannon.
Starting point is 00:16:55 Vanderbilt's going to stink most years. Yeah, you get them twice. So one of the teams we're going to play twice every year is going to stink. And then Tennessee is going to be good. most years. So one of the teams we play is going to be good. This is the price you pay, Drew, to get every game on. Remember, I mean, our non-conference games, you all will be able to watch all of our non-conference games on a network, except maybe one. These other teams, they have like eight or nine games that are on the app in the non-conference. The price you pay for that is you
Starting point is 00:17:24 have to play the best team in the league twice. Yeah, and with the road thing, you know, you slip up on the road every year when you shouldn't. Last year, I was an old miss and George. Georgia. Maybe if you just lose two or three on the road this year, you're going and surrendering into those big opponents and you hold court at home against the easy teams to help out your record. The most important thing is just not slipping up at home with the schedule. We just can't lose at home. We play Mississippi State, Missouri, Georgia, you know, what? Vandym. A&M. Vand, you just cannot lose any of those home games. 859-280-2287. We are here at the summit in beautiful Lexi to Kentucky on a study day. This is, listen, I can tell you all are going to be sweating.

And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.

It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Shady Race.
Starting point is 00:22:19 First of all, I'm giving a big shout out to all the people there in this crowd. Yes, sir. It is hot. I was told it wouldn't be hot by Ryan Lemon. That's why I don't listen to him for weather. It's hot. But you know what? You get 50% off Shady Raise.

You can come to Shady Race 50% off here in the store. It's cool inside. 50% off throughout the show, right? Yeah, our buddy Sean is coming here. He comes every time we're at Shady Raids, he comes just to buy the Shady Raids on the discount. I thought you were going to say, just to sweat.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Well, it does that too. 859-2-8027. Apparently Tennessee is switching to Adidas. That's even more reason we never could. If Tennessee and Louisville are there, they're basically the evil empire, so we can't go. Yeah, Tennessee was Adidas's biggest brand for, felt like decades, and they switched to Nike. I don't know when that was fairly recently, and they need to go back to Adidas. Get them out of here.
Starting point is 00:23:16 One person writes, Matt, everywhere I went yesterday, people were talking about paving over cemeteries. I blame you. My wife and I also got into an argument with it last night, including me leaving and saying just cremate me. So I'm glad. I'm glad that's how the conversation. I, all night, was having people send me stories of what it happened at former cemeteries, where they were, pictures of like, there's an airport that has two runways and then two graves in the center of it. Like, stuff like that is crazy.
Starting point is 00:23:50 I didn't realize Trump buried his ex-wife on his golf course. On that one of that story, on Whole 13. I bet she loved that. Wow. Like in the fairway or like a, like, a, the green. No, Bob Bunker in the Fairway.
Starting point is 00:24:02 I think. Oh, it's in the fairway. I think. Well, it was in the book. I would never be there anyway. But nevertheless, there's a ton of these stories, and I did not realize. That guy that wrote me yesterday was right.
Starting point is 00:24:15 We had almost no regulations on what people had to do with cemeteries until like 1984. So if you were born before 1984, they kind of could have done whatever they wanted. Now, I had another. person write me though and say that after those regulations it made cemeteries more difficult to maintain so that's why nobody builds any more cemeteries now so it was like it helped keep the exploitation but it also led to where now no one builds cemeteries so i guess it's i guess it's you know i guess there are trade-offs for each day i went down that rabbit hole yesterday of reading about the story that you were talking about that happened in the 80s just a crazy story what did you read well i mean
Starting point is 00:24:59 Just no more details than what you talked about, but it was just kind of interesting to read and see that these bodies were just being taken out and removed without anybody's permission. It's kind of wild to think about. There's so many things going on in this world that we have no idea about until you start to talk about it. Yeah, and then we sit and argue about ads of jeans. And like, there's bodies being dug up. Literally bodies being dug up from the ground and we're like, I don't like that jeans ad. And then we get really, we get really upset. Pat Kelsey did a bunch of interviews yesterday, and in it, they were asked about the UK Louisville game being so early in the year.
Starting point is 00:25:38 It's funny because he seems like a really nice guy. And Mark Pope, if you remember earlier, essentially said it's Louisville's fault that game's November 11th. Pat Kelsey was like, yeah, it might be our fault. We screwed this up, but we're playing at November 11th, and he kind of insinuated it would never be that early again in the year. So I was glad to see that. I hope he is telling the truth because I hate it. I hate the fact we're playing that game that early in the season. So if it was just a schedule, fo'paw one time, never let it happen again.
Starting point is 00:26:07 It's going to be like our second game of the year, isn't it? Second week of the season? I hate it. We all hate it. I think even Louisville fans hated it while Pat Kelsey's saying that. But I loved ruining their Christmas every year. It was always right around Christmas. And then the football game had already been played, so we got to talk trash all the way till November.
Starting point is 00:26:24 This year, I'm a little less confident in football. so if we beat them in basketball two weeks later, they can shut us up on the football. Yeah, I mean, that's a big part of this this year is that the basketball and football are so close. If you lose them both, the other fan base will never shut their mouth. And I, and you remember, they had redone the schedule so that one team got home football, one got basketball, and then it alternated. But then COVID hit, and we missed one of the games, and it ended up making them to where they were. on the same year, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:26:58 So that's why, and so we have to go to Louisville for both of them this year. Yeah, Louisville backed out of that COVID game. That's right. That's right. They did back out, didn't they? Yeah. It's all on them. All of this is their fight.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Would you trade a loss in basketball for a win in football over Louisville? No. You know, because the basketball game is. That's a good question. I think it depends on what our record is. So if we're five and six going into the Louisville game. Yeah. You're a big underdog going in.
Starting point is 00:27:26 to that game. If we're five and six going in the Louisville game, I'd rather win the football game. If we're three and eight, doesn't matter. Then I'd rather lose the game. Yeah. Because, look, I mean, I want to beat them in basketball, but it's November 11th. That football game, if it's a difference between going to a bowl or not, I think you can make, now, I think you can make an argument we'd rather win the football game, right? I like the fact that the basketball game is the last game because we've had that before. We go into the game with five wins.
Starting point is 00:27:55 they had a good team, upset them, got our sixth win, cat ball. No, I mean, that's happened twice. Yeah. And it's been big, I think, for the school both times. Plus, we've got to beat the little dog this year. I mean, we got to get out. That's the other thing. See, I think about, listen, think about how much fun it would be to go out there and be grown men and win this game.
Starting point is 00:28:17 Like, think about, like, that would be. Because the camera would pick up Vince on the sideline. I mean, like, the amount of trash talking. You know, I didn't even think about that factor. Now I'm kind of all in on the football unless we've only won three games. I'm still going basketball. You are? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Okay. We need to shut this Reviveville up, whatever they've, this Pat Kelsey bump they have. We beat them last year. Let's keep beating them. Go put them in a locker in the Yom Center. I don't want to lose the basketball game ever, especially this football season. We're not doing anything special. How many you are?
Starting point is 00:28:46 Let's split. How many football? How many basketball? Oh, wow. What the way cares about football, man? It's amazing. That tells you right there. That was 90.
Starting point is 00:28:55 We are three weeks away for the football season. And it's just not, people just, they just don't believe in it. No. Wow. That surprises me. 859-28027. A couple of lines. Give us a shout.
Starting point is 00:29:05 We'll take a break. Very back. Here's not Joe. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-802287. Text machine 772-7-7-4. We will go to the phones.
Starting point is 00:29:18 But first, Drew, Randall Cobb. Oh, yeah. Is in a new reality show. he's going to be on a reality show what's it called like special forces special force his he'll be like going through training as if he was entering the military special forces is that right yep yep that guy already had a couple seasons of this cam newton did it they like hang out of helicopters they do all kinds of crazy stuff they call it the world's toughest test so so world's toughest test I mean Randalls is he is he 40 he's like 30s right right out I'd say he's not there yet
Starting point is 00:29:53 because I think he's a little younger than me and I just hit at 40, but he's getting close. Well, just a little spoiler, there was some talk on the NFL show, Drew and I are going to do that he, Randall, might be the third guy. And, you know, like Hulk Hogan with the NW. He was going to be potentially the third man, but they said he would not be able to be here for the first six to eight weeks. And I guess now we know why, because he's going to be out special forces.
Starting point is 00:30:15 And there's no doubt in my mind he is going to win this thing. And we've seen the other contestants on there. It's like Jesse Smollett, the actors. Is that the guy who fate getting beat up? Yeah. Why is he on there? Well, we're going to see how tough he is, I guess. Obviously not very tough.
Starting point is 00:30:28 He got beat up. Fake got beat up. Yeah, and a bunch of, like, just random names that you probably don't even recognize. A few former NFL players. So it's all celebrities. Yes. I mean, loosely celebrities. I mean, some of these names I've never even heard of before.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Reality TV stars. Johnny Mansell is in it. Mansell is in it. That's a name. I think Randall is better than him. He's tougher than him. He's not the only one representing Kentucky. Brittany Carwright, also on there.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Right? Banderpump? Yeah. Lexington's own. I knew Brittany years ago. She went and got super famous. Former Richmond Hooters employee is now. I feel like Randall Cobb can beat her too.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I don't know. I'm rude for Britney. I feel like Randall can beat. I like her. She's not. We've known her for many years. No one of her since college. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:10 It is a, I mean, Shannon's right. There are some celebrities on there. You're like, well, that person, I haven't thought of them in years. But it is quite the cast of people that would be doing all the. I was going to read off the names. And I'm like, I don't even know who these. Nobody knows. Sean Johnson, the gymnasts, right?
Starting point is 00:31:22 . It sounds like a star-studded. Randall's winning is the point. Yeah, let's go, Randall. Reed Shepard was back working out yesterday in the Kentucky basketball gym. Question for you. Is the Reed Shepard wearing the Arkansas shirt the day of the game? Is that, like, forgotten and forgiven now?
Starting point is 00:31:42 It was until you brought it up. I forgot about it. So it was forgotten. I guess I screwed that up. But do you think fans, you think they're going to care about that? I mean, in the moment, people said they were. Wood, do you think they care now? I didn't care at the time, but I can tell you, and there's some people here that
Starting point is 00:31:59 right on KS board with me, there is part of the fan base that has not moved on. They've brought it up this week when we have a post about, because Dick Vitel's in with it, we've shared that in the comments where, where's the Arkansas shirt, where's the Arkansas shirt? So I think it's a very small percentage, but it does exist. Yes. Ryan? It is out there.
Starting point is 00:32:18 It definitely stung, because that was game week. He can make it all up this year, just wear a Kentucky shirt this year. You know, just flipping around if you have to. It's not, well, I'm not mad about it, but this year's not the same. Last year was the moment. Tensions were high last year. We talked about the UK Arkansas game for months. I really haven't thought about it until the schedule came out.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Like, that was the moment. I would argue, Shannon, it's not the same this year. Yeah. You can wear a Kentucky shirt this year. It doesn't really change a lot. I'm with most fans. I didn't like it in the moment. I've kind of moved on.
Starting point is 00:32:53 at this point like I'm okay with it now I mean I hope he doesn't do it again but I don't he does it again well that he's doubling down and then okay then we're gonna remember it he is working out at UK not at Arkansas so you know he came back home to work out what does your shirt say say meditating Matt from Heinemann is that him is that you that's him that's you oh you're the guy in the garden meditates in the garden I know I thought you were going to be a lot older I It's very normal. His voice makes him sound like he's older.
Starting point is 00:33:26 You got like a Madison thing going. I thought you were like in your 60s or 70s. Okay, well, that's good, though. You look young for your age. How's that? Okay, I'll tell you what. I might bring you up in a bit. I want to talk to you.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Meditating math. That's all that meditating. That's why he looks so young. Yeah. He's too young at heart. You know what? He actually is 74 years old. That's right.
Starting point is 00:33:46 That's good. All right. Who's up first? God, Brooke up first. Brooke, go ahead, Brooke. Hi, guys. So I've got two things. I've got one about the cemetery in St. Matthews yesterday.
Starting point is 00:34:01 It's in the shopping center of Breckenridge Lane and Dutchman's Lane. Breckenridge Lane. Where the Home Depot and everything is. Yep, yeah. I used to live right there. That's where the cemetery is. Okay. Well, if it's behind the McDonald's, then they're in a beautiful place to rest.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Near Panera, right? And then second, with the. schools change in from like, say, underarmor to 90. What do these students and these athletes do with all this extra swag that they got? Are they allowed to sell it? Are they not allowed to sell it? A lot of the students, the moment they graduate, put it on eBay and sell it now. I mean, I, every, if you wait, anytime a season ends, especially in football, because a lot of these dudes are now transferring, go on eBay, a few days after the season ends,
Starting point is 00:34:53 And there's a lot of gear on sale. Back before Rev Shair in NIL, it happened. Even the person who beloved UK the most would sell their gear. So, yes, they are allowed to sell it. It's their gear. You know, I mean, and that's another thing to think about these contracts. I appreciate the call. It's not insignificant that Nike produces uniforms,
Starting point is 00:35:14 practice gear, shoes, all of that for everyone, not just for basketball, but for football, for all the sports. And that is a large cost, I would think. Yeah, and they tripled what Kentucky gets this year, so they're going to have all kinds of shoes and hoodies. And there's actually a website now that NIL's out where it's dedicated to players doing it. It's called, like, The Trunk or something. I think C.J. Frederick posted his Cincinnati and Iowa gear yesterday, so you can actually go find a player and buy all their stuff. They don't even hide it on eBay anymore.
Starting point is 00:35:43 So they like the gear, but they like money more is what I'm hearing. Well, they have a lot of it. I mean, I know I'll take Max, when he went back to Australia, He had so much UK gear. Like, he didn't even, he couldn't even take it all. So he gave, he gave a lot of it to kids in Lexington. So there's like a lot of people probably walking around with Duffy football shirts. Because he, he wear Dane stuff all the time.
Starting point is 00:36:08 My closet is, and Josiah's closet is full of Dane Key gear. You gave me something from a Dane Key visit. I did. I didn't. I don't know about the shirt or something. So, I mean, they get a lot of stuff. And so, yeah, I think that's, that's true. What was her second question?
Starting point is 00:36:23 I'm not sure. All right, who's next? Alan is up next. Alan, go ahead, Alan. Hey, guys, how you doing? I'm Paul Haynard. I wanted to apologize for the profanity the other day. I was on the job.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Oh, you were the dude. Yeah, you were the dude who said, you understand of the words you can say. You said the word you can say the least. Yes, I apologize for that. Like I said, I thought the phone had disconnected, so my apologies would not happen again. You thought the phone had disconnected with the first words you said? No, I didn't know I didn't realize I was still on the phone.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Okay, all right, well, go ahead. Well, I'll forgive you. Okay, thank you so much. A couple of things. One with the football team, I was listening to Jeff Baccaro this morning on the Tom Leach radio show. Yes.
Starting point is 00:37:08 And I have to agree with him. I really think we have a chance to be a big surprise for a lot of teams, especially if we win that Ole Miss games. We don't have the star power like we had in the past, but we do have depth, and it's all around, so that's going to aid us. Coincidentally, that applies to my second point with the basketball team, could you imagine with Colt and his staff with the coaching acumen if they employed like a platoon system where each team
Starting point is 00:37:39 with reserves? No. You could play different defenses and suppress and just run his offense. No. I'm anti-I'm anti-the-puts the platoon year. Appreciate the call. It was a lot of fun. I really loved it.
Starting point is 00:37:53 It was enjoyable, and we had an amazing amount of success. But we have to get out of our mindset, Drew, that that is something we can continue to do. I want you to just take a step back and think about who was on that team. Okay? You had Carl Towns and Devin Booker. Two of the 25 best players in the NBA were on that team. Tyler Ullis, arguably one of the best college point guards we have ever had, was on that team. The Harrison twins, two of the most clutch players we have ever had were on that team.
Starting point is 00:38:24 I just named you five guys, and I didn't even name our first team All-American from that team, which was Willie Colley Stein. Trey Lyles is still in the NBA from that team. So I just named seven dudes that are on most teams they'd be on at Kentucky, Ryan, the best player that would be on it. And there were seven of them on one team. And by the way, the 8th, 9th, and 10th were guys like Dakari Johnson, Alex Poitthrus, and Marcus Lee. Not exactly like terrible players.
Starting point is 00:38:58 I love this group, but this ain't the same thing. This isn't the same thing. This is a group of dudes where I think the first team is going to be the best team. And I think they're going to be a lot better than the second team. And hopefully members of the second team can get in. But, Ryan, you can't act like 2015 as something that's replicable. That was fun. Platoon year was fun.
Starting point is 00:39:19 It ain't ever going to happen again, ever. And it should. No team ever will have that kind of talent again. And it should. I mean, remember, Devin Booker came off the bench. Like, it's, I just, we, I would even argue that you could make a case when we got to the tournament. We shouldn't have platoon then. They probably should have only played seven or eight guys.
Starting point is 00:39:38 I love Marcus Lee. He probably shouldn't have been playing by the time you got to that. Probably not, you know, Dakari, probably not a ton of minutes. That's just me. But, you know, what do you think? No, I agree. It happened by accident. Cal kind of had to make that up on the fly because Ulyson Booker committed to be the guys. And then the Harrison twins said, we'll come back. And Cal was like, uh-oh, I got to predict him. And he had to assure playing time to keep Ulyson
Starting point is 00:39:58 Book around. Same with the big guys. Wasn't Willie was supposed to be gone at that point? Poitrous, they even assume, might be gone. So he had this recruiting class that thought it was going to be their show. And then everyone came back and he managed to keep them together. But at that point, he had to keep everyone happy. And it just worked out that way. It was a great coaching job and it was a great team. But no, I would not want to see that. that repeated. 859-280-2287. Pay if you were late, August 20-25.
Starting point is 00:40:24 You've heard me talk about estate renovations. Kentucky's go-to-high-end home remodeling, but here's something you may not know. If they go over the promise projection completion date, Ryan, they'll give you $100 every day they go over the date. Nobody does that. Nobody guarantees that. That's pretty hard.
Starting point is 00:40:39 That does sound good. Most people don't do that, right? No. They just drag and drag and drag. That's how confident they are in the process. kitchens, bathrooms, whole home makeover. They're all doing it at Estate Renovations. EstateR-E-N-O-S dot com.
Starting point is 00:40:53 EstateRenos.com slash KSR. Mentioned KSR, you get a little bit off of when you book your remodel. EstateRenos.com. They mean it. And if they don't do the date, they say, you get paid. We'll take a break. We're right back. We're here at Shady Race.

They're in Lexington, Louisville locations. They got some new blue and white. We can't call them Kentucky, but they look like, if they're not Kentucky, they look like Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:45:30 They got the blue and white colors right in there. They are on sale today, actually. Everything is. 50% off on shades. I'm going to be, I've given some away already. to a kid. I said, go sign up. He won. The moment he won he left, which I don't think was very nice. He just came to collier. He's got him on. Looking good. Look how cool he looks. Seriously, you look like you could be a villain in an 80s movie right now with us. That's right. All right,
Starting point is 00:45:56 859-280-2287. Shadyrays. Shadyrays.com. Best sunglasses in their company started right here in Kentucky. Ryan, I want to say one thing that bummed me out. You remember we played a weeks ago. Some people, who was here from Bell County? Somebody came up here and told me Bell County, yes, she was from Bell County. You know, we had that dude from Middlesboro was on America's Got Talent, Bill Taylor, and what were they called, the Hicks or something, Bill Taylor. He'll be Hillbillie Heathens, that's right. So I learned something that kind of made me mad. All right, so you know, they got the thing of now you get to go to Hollywood. Right. And you would think, well, Drew, what do you get to do? Go to Hollywood? You get to go to Hollywood. It would
Starting point is 00:46:40 straight forward. They literally said you get to go to Hollywood. Turns out they tell 100 people they get to go to Hollywood, but only 44 get to go to Hollywood. Oh, boo. That's mean. Absolutely foul. How mean is that?
Starting point is 00:46:54 So he put out video, he and the heathens don't get to go to Hollywood. Now, apparently if you go to the American Got Talent social media sites, they had the most views of any video. So you would think you would send them to Hollywood. Maybe they're scared of hillbillies in Hollywood. don't know, but Bill Taylor doesn't get to go. And I'm sorry to see that because I was excited to watch my Middlesbrough Brethren Ryan play in Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Extremely shady. They invite you. And Shady Raids. At Shady Raids. They invite you, then they pull the rug right out from underneath you. And they deserved it. Like you said, they've got the most views, obviously very popular. I think they would want the most popular people there in Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:47:32 And how are you going to televise them being told they're going to Hollywood and then not send them to Hollywood? I don't know. Or maybe they met Hollywood, Florida. And they didn't. You can go to Hollywood. We just got to buy your own ticket. That's right.
Starting point is 00:47:44 And you don't get to be on the show. But, of course, you're welcome to be in Hollywood. I don't like it. I was happy for those folks. I was going to root them on. I was going to, you know, America's Got Talent. I was going to be publicizing your show for weeks. Not now.
Starting point is 00:47:55 You couldn't make me watch your stupid jugglers the rest of the season because you're not sending Bill Taylor and Hillbilly Heathen. So does it mean they're eliminated or they're just not able to go to Hollywood for the next phase? Bill's video was long. I couldn't totally follow. I couldn't totally follow it, but it sounded like he wasn't in the contest anymore. So. It's like your chances are slim if they don't even invite you to Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:48:17 I don't know if they let you win from home. I think you actually have to go. It's strange. It's like they didn't win, but they didn't lose either. No, they're out. I think they're out. They're like purgatory. But again, his video was convoluted, but he doesn't get to go to Hollywood.
Starting point is 00:48:30 So now when you watch America's got talent and they go, you get to go to Hollywood, know that they're dirty liars, and you might not get to go to Hollywood. No, you don't. Yes. I'm boycotting. Stay in Middlesboro. Yep. I never watched it before.
Starting point is 00:48:43 That was mean. All right. So I had somebody write me last night with a question, Drew, and I think this is good because we talked about Travis Perry. And it also applies to somebody that Mr. Hawaiian shirt here cares about too. The question was, Matt, forget about when they play Kentucky. Just in general, when a guy leaves Kentucky, are you cheering for them? So let's talk about it in the form of football. Dane Key, Barryon Brown.
Starting point is 00:49:11 Let's leave aside that we know Dane and we want him to succeed because we know him. But when a football player leaves Kentucky and goes to a, and could have stayed, so this isn't pushed out the door, could have stayed, do you root for him at the new place? Do you want to see Barry on Brown return kicks for touchdowns for LSU? And if we didn't know him, would you want to see Dane Key with that stupid corn on his head, scoring in Nebraska. It's weird, I think, and maybe this isn't the way to be.
Starting point is 00:49:44 I feel like I will root for people from Kentucky, not just because I know Dane, but same with Travis. I don't know him that well. But if they're not, I don't care. Like, I won't root for Beryon Brown, but I will root for Dane, and I don't really know why that is. I might just be because he's local,
Starting point is 00:49:59 and I want him to do well. But almost, if Beryon Brown goes there and becomes a star and his returning kicks, I'm going to get upset. We didn't get more of that in Lexington. Barryon Brown, by the way, was named by, I think ESPN, first team pre-season All-American kick returner. So, you know, they're obviously expecting him to do well. Ryan, I know, I mean, you're going to be cheering for Dane.
Starting point is 00:50:20 But, like, would you cheer for Beryon? Okay, well, think Dan, out of the picture. I absolutely will cheer for Barry on. I don't know because he was here for three years. We kind of got to know him a little bit as a person. I think he's really a good guy. I would cheer for him. I won't cheer for Travis Perry every game but the Kentucky game.
Starting point is 00:50:36 So what about, I mean, you do to some. some extent know those people. So let's say, let's say Alex Safari had left and gone to, you know, Georgia. Would you cheer for Alex Safari? Probably not as much because I don't know him. You're right. You know, Beron's been to my house.
Starting point is 00:50:52 Alex Safari, I think I would cheer for him, but not as openly as maybe I will for Berion. I'm not cheering for any of these guys. I knew you're going to be. I mean, like, I won't be watching a whole lot of Nebraska games. I mean, I wish Dane well and success there, but I won't be watching, so I really won't be carrying one way or another.
Starting point is 00:51:09 The interesting question is, if Old Miss is playing LSU on a random Wednesday night on ESPNU and you flip the game on, and Travis is in the game, do you want him to make shots? That's the question. The answer to y'all is yes? I do. Okay, for sure.
Starting point is 00:51:26 I want him to have a great career at Ole Miss, just not against Kentucky. I think it's something with, they'll come back to Kentucky. We want Kentuckyans to do well. You know, we all rank the best people from here. I really think it's just where they're from for me. Like if Cutter Bowley will leave, and I don't want that to happen,
Starting point is 00:51:42 but say next year he goes off, I would be for Cutter Bowley, but Alix Safari not. I don't know. Did you root for C.J. Frederick at Cincinnati? To be honest, I kind of forgot he was there. Yeah. Sorry, CJ. Most of these guys.
Starting point is 00:51:55 We'll forget they're even there. Yeah, it is weird. Like, I'm pulling for Dane because I know it. But I'm going to have mixed emotions. I mean, LSU plays Alabama. It's prime time. ABC, Kirk Herb Street. He returns the kick, and people are like,
Starting point is 00:52:09 Barry Brown's the best kick or Turner. I don't know why I'm doing it, but Dick Vital. But he's the best kick by Turner than ever hit. Be right back here at Shady Ray's.
