Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Hour number two here, Kentucky Sports Radio, live at Shady Rays. A lot of people during the break in there getting sunglasses on a hot day. I know I say this every time it's like this, but you guys sitting in this sun, you don't know how much that means to me. These are true fans, and they're going to hopefully win some stuff here at the end of the show. as soon as the show, 859-280, 2287.
Starting point is 00:03:29 As soon as the show finishes, I'm getting in my car. I've got a couple buddies coming here. We're going to Pittsburgh for Reds Pirates. Of course, Reds lost last night. Classic Reds luck. Paul Skeens gave up seven hits for the only time in his career, Shannon, and we still didn't score a run, even though he gave up.
Starting point is 00:03:48 He'd never given up seven hits before. So on the one hand, we hit him better than anybody had. On the other hand, we still didn't score any run. I think he had eight strikeout. Sort of a strange game. you don't see a pitcher give up seven hits and then give and then have eight strikeouts to go along with it. But yeah, is the summer of Ellie over again? No, but I think if we legitimately want to make the playoffs, we probably need to win all three of these coming up.
Starting point is 00:04:12 But I do think the summer of alley ends if we don't win two. But I just saw this stat. Here's the stat that shows the struggles with the Reds. You want to know in the last 21 times they've played at Pittsburgh, a team that stinks. Last 21 times. You know what their record is? Not good. Five and 16. Wow.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You got to be able to beat teams like Pittsburgh. It's been true all year. We've been winning these series against the good teams. And then we lose the series against the Braves. We lose the series against the, I think it was the Rockies. We lose the series against the, might lose a series against the Pirates. So, yeah, I think two of the next three or the Summer Valley is over. But I'm looking forward to going either way.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Pittsburgh's got a great stadium. For a team that stinks. It's an awesome state. I was about to add that. When you know I did like 11 stadiums, if I'm not mistaken, I ranked Pittsburgh one. It's been a few years since we did that, but I thought it was awesome there. They got the view of the bridges and everything, the background. Pittsburgh is a fun city.
Starting point is 00:05:08 I do highly recommend going to Pittsburgh Stadium. First of all, tickets are cheap. We're sitting like on the field for 80 bucks a ticket. And it's beautiful, but the team, Ryan, is bad and Skeens is gone. So now we play all their bad people. Well, I hope you and your friends, walk to the stadium because you know more than the internet when you're walking on the streets in Pittsburgh. Is it timely Texas night there?
Starting point is 00:05:32 That is true. Is Pittsburgh the place I knew more than the internet? Picklesburg. Yeah. Well, sometimes you know more than the internet. Question 859-28027. Did you see Mark Pope teaching Jaden Quaintens how to drive? Have you all seen this video?
Starting point is 00:05:48 So Jaden Quaintance was getting his driver's license today, maybe. I think his test was today, maybe going on right now. and the team took him to a parking lot, and they did the Brady Bunch challenge. Do you remember when the Brady Bunch they would try to back up and touch the cone but not have the egg fall off? Do you remember that? Oh, yeah. They did that and streamed the live video. Drew, I thought that was very cool.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Again, team bonding and Mark Pope doing like dorky things, but things that are kind of fun to watch. Might be the longest drive by Wildcat this season at Kroger Field. I'm excited about that. I did wonder when Pope went live, I thought there's going to be hundreds of people that drive straight to Krogerfield just to be a part of this. I wondered if any fans showed up and watched that because how cool would that be to just go watch future lottery pick and learn out of parallel park at the football stadium? It is a man. That is true. Yeah, I mean, this is a dude who could be picked in the top five of the draft and he's out there trying not to hit an egg in his car to get his license.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Oh, isn't he only like 18 years old? I mean, he's still really young. I think he turns 18. I think it was a great team bonding experience just to have it because the other teammates were out there kind of helping him, trying to, you know, get him excited about it, teach him some things. So I think it's just a great way the Pope again is drawing this team kind of as a bond as a unit, all coming from different categories, different teams, get them to come together. So he doesn't need to know how to parallel park. He's going to have one of these big, expensive cars that you've hit a button at a parallel parks itself. He doesn't need to know how to do that.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Happens? Yeah. They got cars that park themselves now. It'll just do, like, it'll just do it. Oh, yeah. Yeah. The new Tesla is if I'm at Whole Foods and it's raining, I can say, come pick me up and it'll pull up and park with the last season.
Starting point is 00:07:29 Oh, yeah, there's a girl. I won't say who it is, but there's a girl who dates, who works at KS. Bar, who dates a UK football player of some prominence. And I know he's doing well NIL. Yeah. Based on the car she drives. But she does that.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Just hit that button. She hits a button and the car will drive around. and pick her up in front of the bar. And I'm like, good grief. Part of me goes, why are you working here? You got cars driving to you. You're going to be fine, right? I am not ready for that.
Starting point is 00:08:06 I'm not ready to get in a car that you don't have to have a driver and it's driving for you. I'm just not there yet. That's the future of KSR road trips. Honestly, that moment, by the way, was when I knew that UK football had more Nile money than I thought was when the player's girlfriend was. able to have her car come pick her up on her own truth then i was like maybe there's more in aisle
Starting point is 00:08:28 money here than i then i then i realized yeah they're doing all right in that if the uh significant other not even harry yeah it's not even him it's a college girlfriend it's a significant other in college you could uh you you could see that who's up next Shane from Grayson is up next Shane go ahead how they go up phillers go ahead Hey, Portland Pickles, did you hear that story? Yes. We told it on the air. Oh, I did you think that guy earned a college scholarship right there?
Starting point is 00:09:01 Do you think somebody like Kentucky Wesley ought to offer him? No. No. That was staged. Well, I don't know if it was staged or not, but getting one hit probably, I mean, I would think most scouting departments want to see more than one at bat before they give a college scholarship. I would think, but it was a very cool story. For people who don't know, picked a guy out of the crowd, and he came out there and got a hit in the actual minor league game. That was a kind of a cool thing.
Starting point is 00:09:29 He had a home run, didn't he? Yeah, hit a home run. So would you give him a scholarship? That had to be staged. That had to be a prop. But still you don't know he's going to have a home run. Even in batting practice, there's guys that one swing don't hit a home run. I only had three home runs my whole college career.
Starting point is 00:09:43 So you think it was staged? I think it absolutely was staged. No, I don't think it was. But you think everything's staged. I mean, I think it's possible that somebody who's a former college baseball player could go out there and won it bad and hit a home run. I think it looks worse for the pitcher. I feel bad for that guy. Imagine you, you're a pitcher and you gave up a home run to some random guy.
Starting point is 00:10:03 To a guy. Nobody thinks about that guy. That's actually a good point. What else you got, Shane? He's gone. Oh. Look at you, Rick. Rick.
Starting point is 00:10:13 You got a quick trigger finger there, Rick? Nope, I didn't do anything. He just hung up on his. He's on accord. Rick, what's you? I mean, we're all like traveling around like, you know, throughout the weekend. What's a Rick weekend like? But lots of wine, for one thing.
Starting point is 00:10:28 You are just Mr. Wine. Do you just come home, pop it open, and then what's your favorite wine? Probably a Chardonnay. Okay. Do you have, like, a brand that you like? Yeah, Kendall Jackson. Kendall Jackson is the king of Chardonnays. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Wow. Somebody gets a Kennox-I-in-Wine there, Rick. Is it? I don't know. I thought it's not high. No, it's not. But it is good. I mean, you know, you don't have to go out and get the $100 ball.
Starting point is 00:10:53 What's wrong with a little Kendall Jackson? I tell you what, I want to buy you a gift for all your work here. What's the wine of your dreams? Like, what's a wine that if I gave it to you, you'd go, this is Rick. I've wanted this. This will be a fun thing to drink. Are you ready for this and then? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Sure. Okay. Probably Staggs Leap. Stag's Leap. Stag's Leap. Cabernet Sauvignon. Okay, how much does that cost, Rick? That runs probably around
Starting point is 00:11:24 $55, $60, $0.50. All right. We'll get you. Here, I got it for 4777. Total wine and work right here. I'll get you once in the place. Where's Billy? Where's Billy? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:36 So it's a Staggsleaf, what? Stag's Leap is the name of a winery, and the kind of wine is Cabernet Sauvignon. Okay, let's go over to Whole Foods. Billy. It's right there. and see if you can find it. You'll have it.
Starting point is 00:11:49 And then you'll give it to Shannon. We'll take it back to Rick. There you go. Rick, that's my thank you for how much work you've done. I appreciate that, guys. Nice. All right, thank you very much. We'll take it.
Starting point is 00:12:00 We're not going to take a break. Who's next? We have Jordan up next. Jordan, go ahead, Jordan. All right, Matt, I got that. I'm going to hop off here. My first question is, if you had a pick between the Big 12, the Big Ten, or the ACC for Kentucky to join as a basketball,
Starting point is 00:12:18 conference, which one would you pick and why? No, wait, do I have to leave? Do I have, all right, two questions. Do I have to leave the SEC? Because the answer to me would be staying the SEC. Do I have to leave the SEC? This is just a hypothetical if you had to pick one of those three and why. Okay, and then does it, do I play football there too or just basketball?
Starting point is 00:12:39 Yeah, yeah. I play football and basketball. Okay, now that's, before you get to say a question, I think that's a good question. All right, let's say the SEC kicks us out. They say, you all, we don't like you anymore. And the Big Ten and the ACC and the Big 12 all give us invitations. Which one are we taken if it was up to you? I mean, I know what we would take.
Starting point is 00:13:00 We would take the Big Ten because it's more money. But which one would you prefer to go to? ACC's not him on the table. Not him bringing that hat out by ACC. Really? Yeah. You don't want to play Duke and Carolina every year? No, they're a dying conference.
Starting point is 00:13:16 Let them die. Big 12, probably. Big 12? I'm leaning towards the football aspect, too. Because you think we can win the big 12? Just more fun trips, stuff like that. I don't want to go to Purdue. I don't want to go to Wisconsin.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I don't want to go to Indiana. Okay. What about you, Ryan? See, I'm going ACC. You get to play Duke and North Carolina, home and home maybe every year. Louisville. And for football, I think Kentucky could compete pretty well in the ACC for football. You nailed it.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Yeah. I mean, I think Kentucky football, if they, got really good one year could possibly own the ACC, you know, and win the ACC. We're not going to win the SEC in football. Yeah, I'm going to the Big Ten. Part of it's the money, but then part of it is also the Big Ten has a decent mix of a lot of games our fans could drive to, right? You could drive to Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan. You could drive to a ton of those games.
Starting point is 00:14:14 then you get a once a year trip out to L.A. If you want to go for USC and UCLA, get a trip to New York to play against Rutgers. And I think it would be hard to win the Big Ten, but I actually think as Indiana showed last year, Drew, it's easier to get right under the powers in the Big Ten than it is in the SEC. So I think it's very hard to beat Ohio State, Michigan, regularly.
Starting point is 00:14:41 But you can rise to third or fourth in the Big Ten, Big Ten and we've seen almost every school in the Big Ten do it at some point. So I feel like we would have, we might not be able to win the Big Ten, but we could get to the point that we're like knocking on the door for the 12th playoff spot in the Big Ten easier than we could in the SEC. Yeah, and it was a close call for me. I completely forgot about USC and UCLA. You might have talked me back into the Big Ten on a California trip.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Yeah, and then Rutgers. You could go up there in New York. You don't want to go New York. I can go to New York on my own. I don't want to go to Rutgers. You don't have to go to Rutgers. Okay. Fair enough.
Starting point is 00:15:13 What was your second question? Second question is, so if Nike signs a kid out of high school, what is the parameters as far as, like, how can you even represent a school like a Reebok or Under Armour or Adidas in college? Like, how would that even work in the Nike contract? Well, I mean, I think what happens. This happens occasionally. A kid signs a Nike deal. He personally wears Nike shoes, and then the uniform is just Adidas and they just, like, get through it. personally wears Nike schools. Like you, I mean, you watch Kentucky games. The days of everyone on the
Starting point is 00:15:48 team wearing the same shoe, those days long past, and players basically get to wear whatever shoe they want. But the uniform, it is the case, even a Nike athlete would have to wear Adidas logo on their uniform. And I think, honestly, the shoe company just looks the other way. Gotcha. Appreciate the call. But I have heard, I think it was at Auburn that some player came, Ryan, and he was, you know, that's an Under Armour school, and he was not able, like he said, you can't sell my jerseys with my name on it in the back. So Auburn was not able to sell his jerseys because of that.
Starting point is 00:16:23 See, it's going to get complicated for that exact reason now. They represent Adidas and they go to Under Armour School. How are you going to handle their merchandise with their name on it, the representation? Yeah. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage. Stockton Mortgage, I'm so glad you asked. This is the time to celebrate Stockton Mortgage. We're celebrating Shady Raids.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Why is this? I'm excited. Because it's a beautiful day. The sun's out. This is it. So when the sun's out, you're like, I want to celebrate a mortgage company. When the sun comes down, the first thing pops in my head, I'm thinking about Stockton Mortgage. I want to refinance my home loan.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I'm going to go buy a new home. I'm going to do a He-Lock, cash-out refinance. And I know Stockton Mortgage can do it all for me. So give them a call. They're easy to find. They're all across the state. They're in every town in America. Well, not really, but they can represent any town in America.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Stockton Mortgage. Stockton mortgage. Not real. When you wake up, think Stockton Mortgage. A lot. Oh, wait, are you done? In the LES 8259 Equals and Linder. A lot of people were very impressed with your preamble ability last year.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Oh, really? Oh, yeah. Because a lot of people said that five minutes, where you talked about going to the cemetery as a child and doing that. Yeah. And you said, oh, it's wonderful, and that was weird. And then you combined it with, like, this savant-like knowledge of the preamble. A lot of people said that was a classic five-minute Ryan Lemon moment. Well, it was from the schoolhouse rock, the little jingle. We grew up with it when you watched Saturday morning cartoons.
Starting point is 00:17:40 you were drilled in about the schoolhouse rock commercials. What other things do you remember from that? Don't sing. I'm just a bill. Okay. Yes, I'm only a bill. I appreciate the call. 859-28028.
Starting point is 00:17:53 We'll take a break. We'll take a break. Rick, go to break. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened.

So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey.
Starting point is 00:20:11 I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant, this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my. my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and
Starting point is 00:20:58 wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world, Like, I can do anything.
Starting point is 00:21:41 I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Text machine, 772-7524. One person writes, Matt, if KSR was doing a road trip across the country, besides yourself, who would you feel the most comfortable driving? Not me. Not Ryan. Certainly not Ryan. He's last. Mario is next to last.
Starting point is 00:22:25 I'd be fine with Drew or Shannon. I'd probably pick Shannon. I feel like he's more focused. But Drew would be right there. I'd be fine with both of them, probably Billy, too. I would not. Ryan, there's zero time I would love. I wouldn't want myself to drive myself.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Yeah, you get a ticket for sure. I am a spokesman for the Kentucky Department of Highway Safety. I just want to throw that in there. Yes, that's good. We're here at Shady Raise. Go to Shadyrays.com. 50% off the next 40, what, or 38 minutes here on the show. We're going to give away some more stuff, and you can go on, Ron, shadyraise.com. One person writes, Matt Bruce Pearl has been going on political podcast talking about how much he dislikes Obama and how much he likes Trump.
Starting point is 00:23:04 What do you think would have happened if he did that here? Well, I really wanted him here. I don't think he could do that here. I mean, it would be, it would be hypocritical for me to say he can't say what he thinks, but I don't understand how he's doing that, and he expects, like, doesn't think it'll have an impact on his recruiting. I mean, I don't know if you all know Luther Campbell, who was the former rapper. He now advises a lot of players, especially the ones in. Miami in the South. And I saw him on a podcast last night say, I'm telling all my players,
Starting point is 00:23:41 nobody goes to Bruce Pearl again. Now, I don't know if that'll happen or not. If the money's right, probably they'll go. But I'm surprised. I'm surprised. But it may also be the case, Drew, he just wants to run for Senate, and this is like his last year anyway. And if that's the case, then it may make sense. But, like, I think, I think coaches should be able to say what they think. But I also think if you say what you think, it's going to have an impact on recruiting, I would think, so I don't, I'm a little surprised, are you? Yeah, and you know, you're representing the whole university.
Starting point is 00:24:11 It just seems you could divide your audience, whatever side you're on, when really no one's making you do that. Obviously, he feels very strongly about it. But people say that to me, too. So, I mean, you're representing you and, you know, not because of a small time, but he's working for Auburn that is a public
Starting point is 00:24:27 university. Even though I dislike almost everything he says, I do think he has a right to say it. I'm just surprised if you're a basketball coach, and you recruit predominantly African-American kids to come out and say Obama is the worst. I just, it would seem to me that would be a risky thing to do, but I guess Ryan he thinks it will be fine. They didn't do as well in recruiting this year.
Starting point is 00:24:50 This was the worst year they've had, so I don't know. But again, he may be just like wanting to go run for office. This will be his last year anyway, and I would say I hope so, so that they're not good anymore. Well, if he's setting himself up for that, isn't his son, Stephen, like next in line? I mean, he's not setting him very good precedence for his son. I think it's, yeah, is his son going to be the next coach if they said that? I don't know what they've said it, but I think that's kind of maybe the thought.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Yeah, well, what do you think, Shannon? I think what do you think of what happened if he was at UK? Let's say he was doing all that at UK with our platform, with our spotlight. It would get a lot more attention. Yeah, I wouldn't like it. Like if Pope were saying those type of things, I wouldn't like that at all. I mean, you can say what you want as a coach, but you've got to be prepared to deal with the consequences, and you're going to see those, I think, in recruits.
Starting point is 00:25:34 I don't know if people have seen. Like, he's, he said a lot here in the last few days. Who's up next? Brandon is up next. Brandon, go ahead, Brandon. So I've been doing some really deep thinking on, hold on, let me say, my top off speaker. Yeah, that would be a good start. Let's think about that first.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Yeah. Yeah, so as far as Travis Perry goes and any of our future transfer basketball players, I don't know, unless some bad blood has happened and they've, you know, done us dirty, I don't necessarily think a boo is good. It sometimes will fire up the players, but psyche may change on them to where it backfires on us, such as our Arkansas game last year, where we saw DJ Wagner play out of his, you know what. So I think a happy medium between a boo and a clap, which would obviously be supporting them, which we can't do that anymore.
Starting point is 00:26:32 It's silence and thumbs down from the entire crowd. Yeah, but you can't. Nobody, like silence doesn't work collectively. Because I appreciate the call. If everybody's silent, then any idiot who makes a sound gets in a larger platform. I don't think Travis is going to get booed, except I think the students will boo him, Drew.
Starting point is 00:26:50 Do you agree with that? The students will boo him, because students are the ones who, they'll boo him. I don't think the rest of the crowd will. And I said this about Cal and Arkansas. So I don't care. I think, heck, boo everybody. They're coming to Rupp Arena to beat your team.
Starting point is 00:27:05 In that circumstance, they're not there for you to have a good, look, I'm getting an applause back here. They're there to ruin your day. Why not boo them if you want to boo? Ryan, what do you think, what player do you think got the loudest booze in the last, I don't know, 25, 30 years at Rupp Arena? I have the answer, but let's see who you think. Who do you think got the loudest boos of any opposing player, not coach?
Starting point is 00:27:28 I think Joe Kim knows. That's exactly what I was going to say. Yeah, he's got to be up the list. I was in the eruption zone for him. I gave him the finger at every opportunity, and he gave it back. You gave him the finger. We all did, and he gave it back often. I mean, you just threw birds up at him.
Starting point is 00:27:42 The whole eruption zone. He doubled us back. And there was a hatred for Noah that I don't know we'll see again. Our boy Doug got in trouble for that. You're just throwing him up, left and running. And you had to be there early, and he's warming up and stretching, and he's jawing, and we're jawing. So that's part of it is, for people who don't go to a lot of it. of UK games. The opposing team warms up in front of the UK students. And that is when the
Starting point is 00:28:06 trash talking occurs. And you're right. I was going to say Joe Kim Noah, by far number one. Yeah. I was going to say Matt Walsh, number two. He's got to be up there. Marshall Henderson. And you literally, you guys, that was my three. Was Joe Kim Noah, Matt Walsh, and Marshall Henderson? Those are the three that I've seen get the worst individual. We camped out all night, 24 hours on the pavement outside Rupp just to go in and boo joke him, Noah. Now, he won the game, and that sucked. But that hour before the game,
Starting point is 00:28:37 it was pretty vulgar down there from everyone, not just me. Can you think of another one, Ryan, those three are the ones that stick out to me. The big dude from Tennessee that's now on the SEC Network. Ron Slay? Yeah, Ron Slay's a good one. Andrew DeClirk. We keep naming Florida guys.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Andrew DeClirk, that's back in the 90s. A real early 90s. Yeah, Andrew DeClark. And what was the other guy's name, Demeet Hook? DeMettee Hill. Everybody were naming her former Florida player. It is interesting how Teddy Dupey, yes. Jason Williams is another one who we booed and then he just lit us up.
Starting point is 00:29:14 And then he got kicked off the team the next day. You remember that? Oh, yeah. Let us up had like 33 and then the next day got kicked off the team. Nobody remembers Cameron Mills had like 30 that game and nobody remembers it. No, it doesn't. But Joe Kim, Noah is the easy answer. 559-2-80-22-87.
Starting point is 00:29:30 We are here at Shady Raise. 30 more minutes to get half off. We'll be right back to Kentucky Sports Radio. Waterback, Tuggy Sports Radio, here live, Shady Ray's. Tangle-free Aviators, they don't get stuck in your hair, color rush lenses. It's all here at Shady Ray, Shaddyraise.com. 50% off for the rest of the show. We've got a great crowd here.
Starting point is 00:29:51 We've been doing drawing. Seems like the kids keep winning. Young guy out here, got his sunglasses. You like those? Yeah. Also, you know what? I feel good about the future. I had not one, but two kids come up to me.
Starting point is 00:30:03 One kid brought my book and asked me to sign it. Where was that? Right here. You did, the one who won the sunglasses. And then another one came and said he just finished reading it yesterday. Whoa. He's like 14. He's read more books than you have.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Yeah. It took me the entire length of COVID, I think, to finally get your book read. But I got it done. Did you finish it? Oh, yeah. Oh, that's very nice of you. Well, that's great. So to get ready for our NFL show, which is going to be called Cover Zero NFL,
Starting point is 00:30:34 Drew and Mario and Billy and I, we have to do a test show, okay? So we're doing two episodes a week. One episode is reacting to the games after they happen on Sunday night. So they want us to practice reacting to the games. So we are reacting to week one of the preseason, Shannon. Yeah. Ugh. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:56 You had a tie. Yeah, well, that was the game I got to sign. So what I did is we assigned Drew, Billy, Mario, and I, we each took four games. And last night, one of my games was on, Raiders Seahawks, which, considering I gave the assignments, I should have given myself a better game. It was awful. And it ended in a tie. And it was, NFL preseason Drew is really a miserable thing to watch. I'm not going to say this on the test episodes since the NFL is our boss.
Starting point is 00:31:27 for this, but it is not fun to watch. I don't want Roderick Dale calling us up saying, you better like that preseason. It is a grind, especially, you know, the starters sit pretty early in the game, and you're getting guys trying to make the team. But it is, I like when the Titans play. I get my Cam Ward debut.
Starting point is 00:31:43 It's the rookies that were drafted in the first round are what make the preseason exciting. And they had Jalen Milro played and Ashton Shinty. But, Mario, are you enjoying, are you going to, you think you're going to, you're enjoying watching NFL preseason? Yeah. Well, not a big NFL guy before this.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Yeah, Mario's still waiting for a new episode of urinating tree. But, yeah, Ryan, not the most fun. I don't know. People who get into that, the preseason, I don't totally understand it. I can't stand to watch it. I mean, I watched a little bit of the Bengals last night just because it was on. But my goodness, they used to play four preseason. At least they cut it down to three.
Starting point is 00:32:20 I don't know why they play in anyway. He said starters never play. Well, last night, was it the Bengals that left in their first ring for the entire first quarter. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Am I a psycho for betting on it?
Starting point is 00:32:31 Yes. Good. Good. Titans minus three tomorrow. Seth McGowan is a running back that you're going to hear a lot about. Probably going to be our starter. Where did he play last year? New Mexico State.
Starting point is 00:32:44 New Mexico, New Mexico, I think. But his story is an interesting one. There's a long profile about it on KSR. Basically, he was a highly tattered recruit coming out of high school, went Oklahoma, and then he and some of his teammates got arrested. They basically stole money, jewelry, I think marijuana. Yeah, it's armed robbery. It was an armed robbery.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Got kicked out of school. He was facing 15 years in prison. He ended up getting probation. He says he's turned his life around, and now he will be the starting running back at Kentucky this year. When you hear a story like that, Ryan, because I mean this happened when he was 18, It was in 2021. It was like 18 years old.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Do you like that path of redemption? And, you know, I have to say, I didn't even know about it until I read the story on KSR. You know, we all make stupid mistakes when we're 18, 19 years old. Tough, we're really not proud of. Armed robbery is a big mistake. I mean, yeah, not all of us do that. But I think, you know, the Stoops connections in Oklahoma, they checked it out. And I think they felt like got a good report on this kid.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Like, you know, he made a mistake. He's trying to turn his life around. I think they talked to the folks at New Mexico also got good reports on him. So all intensive purposes, he's learned his lesson, and maybe he deserved, I think he does deserve a second chance. I like a good, you know, redemption story. I believe in giving people a second chance. But when you're talking about being disciplined and that being a focal point of your team,
Starting point is 00:34:10 I hesitate to, I would hesitate to bring in somebody with a track record like that. But sometimes you have a guy who's been facing a long time like that, and he can say, hey, if you go down the wrong path, here's what I was looking at. Yeah. I mean, you know, they used to, when I was a kid, they had those scared, straight things where people from prison would come and yell at kids and be like, I'm going to beat you up, and it would scare me through the television. So I'm not saying that's what Seth McGowan is doing, but what do you think?
Starting point is 00:34:37 Get ready. We're going to love Seth McGowan. I didn't know where he would fit in in the backfield. I thought Dante Dowdell was locked in at running back one. You got Wilcox, Patterson, back. After going to two open practices and watch that guy run, even just drills. He is planting that foot in the ground and running with a purpose. So you think he's running back one?
Starting point is 00:34:58 He didn't doubt. I don't know how to do it. Dowell was maybe a little power. They're going to use both of them a lot. They're one and two, whatever the order. But he looks like a pro running back. And in talking to him, he has the absolute right attitude. I mean, he knows what he did.
Starting point is 00:35:10 He had a huge opportunity in Oklahoma, completely lost it. And it was a long way back. He even had a year where he didn't play. He went to Juko. Then he went to New Mexico. And UK's running back coach recruited in Oklahoma. So there's that connection, too. He was at Oklahoma with him when he messed up,
Starting point is 00:35:24 giving him the second chance. He seems to have his head on straight, and he is going to be a good running back this year. I can't wait to see him. You got me excited. He also has a very intimidating grill. The platinum. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Oh, yeah, that is intimidating. It's a good look. Yeah, I don't think I've ever met anybody with the grill that I wasn't, at least a little intimidated. He has a great attitude, though. It's not, it doesn't look like, you know, he's putting on a show. I mean, that dude knows how bad he messed up. I have had people tell me that he and Dowell will be like a $300.
Starting point is 00:35:54 percent upgrade from what we did last year, which you remember if it was not run the ball. Now, I was excited about our offensive line after all the Shiage Tate and all the new guys. And then Jeff Piccora was on Tom Leach this morning. Tom Leach, Jeff was like, I am so excited about this team. We're going to be so much better than next year. And Tom said, is there anything you worried about? And Jeff Picorro said the offensive line. And I just went, no, not again.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Does that concern you? Well, I think he's maybe having a show me attitude. I think the talent is there, but they've not done it yet in the SEC. You know, Pete's a big, strong guy. He's not gone up against defensive ends in the SEC yet. You know, Farmer and Jagger are back from last year's team, but everybody else are kind of some new faces. So I think it's –
Starting point is 00:36:36 But that was some – we thought that was – That was the thing I was feeling good about was the offensive line. It was supposed to be a strength. If the offensive line isn't good, this team doesn't win many games. They have to be good. Especially if they're going to run the ball, man. They've got to be good. The starting five will be good.
Starting point is 00:36:49 The question is if one of them gets hurt, subbing in. There's not a ton of depth. behind Jagger who's done everything right except there's still some snapping issues. Weberley, the backup seems a little small for the SEC. He's tiny for the essence. So really the main five need to stay as healthy as possible and have a good year.
Starting point is 00:37:04 If you see a guy get rolled up during the game, just pray to the Lord, he gets back on the field because I do think our backup will be a step back. Who's next? Adam is up next. Adam, go ahead, Adam. Hey, Matt, so we are currently on the way to Pittsburgh right now. Oh, we're going to Redskine.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Nice. So we are just past Washington Courthouse up in Ohio, and we want to know if you what's your three recommendations for food. Oh, well, you know, I've only been there a couple times. I don't really know, to be honest with you. Here's what I'll do, though. People who are listening who have Pittsburgh food recommendations, send it to me, and if you'll send a tweet or text to the text machine, sure, I'll share them with you.
Starting point is 00:37:50 How's that? Got to get Pramati Brothers. That's their thing. Yeah, Pramati Brothers is like the famous thing. for three really tall people. I'm one of them at the game. There's not that many people will be at the games and come say hello. So, yeah, I will be in a UK hoodie at some point so you can't be a scene.
Starting point is 00:38:07 That's a little hot for that, even for me. But I'll see you then. Appreciate the call. And we have a very tall group going, so we should be able to eat spot. Yeah, you're one of the small guys in your group. We've got 6-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6 feet. So it should be a pretty good group. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:38:22 Patriot Pappall is up next. What's going on, Pat. All right. Have it going, guys. I'm doing all right. What's up, sir? You're unique. Conspiracy theory.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Like that's dealing here. The conspiracy theory with the Reds. I've watched all season. I'm not one of these guys that always blames, referees, umpires, officials, etc. But you're about to blame our referees, umpires, and officials. Yeah, yeah. The, the, the Red seemed to get a really bad deal on some ball and strike called, man.
Starting point is 00:38:57 I mean, schemes threw one to De La Cruz last night. That was six inches off the plate. The guy calls it a strike and schemes grinned. Sir, the score was seven to nothing. I don't think that matters. No, it does matter. I mean, to be fair, sir, it was seven to nothing. We didn't, we weren't really close.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Well, it was seven to nothing late. The issue is a play here or there. Yeah. No, it's not. It's not even that. I'm talking conspiracy theories. All year long, all year long,
Starting point is 00:39:32 we are getting these marginal calls that go against us. But sir, I'm a big Reds fan, but are you suggesting in Major League Baseball is trying to cheat the Reds to help the Pirates?
Starting point is 00:39:45 I'm suggesting that reds in the playoffs might not be as good a thing as maybe, you know, a Padres or a Dodgers or a Cubs or a bruce. You might be right. You might be right.
Starting point is 00:39:57 But I also think, and I appreciate to call, that if you're Major League Baseball, you've got this electric superstar in Cincinnati. The kids love that, like, when he goes places, people go crazy, Ellie. And if you market him, you got Judge and Otani, Ryan, and he could be next, right? So they don't, Major League Baseball don't want to cheat to keep that guy away. That's a guy they need to actually get some attention.
Starting point is 00:40:24 The other one to promote guys like that. I mean, they put the Reds in that game at Bristol for him. The Braves are a marquee franchise. They put the Reds there just for him. So clearly they want to try to get him out there. So this guy thinks that Major League Baseball wants Milwaukee in the playoffs. Really? Because they're leading the Central right now.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Yeah. I don't know if I totally agree with that. Give me your Draft Kings pick for the weekend. Three Reds Pirates game. Who you got? Draft Kings bet five get $200. Ryan Lemon, what will the series be? Reds?
Starting point is 00:40:54 win one of three. So they win tomorrow night. Shut your mouth. What do you got? For the Reds, reds sweep. That would be nice. I'm going to go two of three. What about you, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:41:05 Pirates sweep. Sweep. They sweep. They're playing good. I'm giving you at least one way. You want to put a bet on that? You want to put a bed on the no sweep? I'll give you odds.
Starting point is 00:41:16 No, sorry. You know, Lodolo's out, Hunter Green's out. Who are they throwing? Chase Burns is going to go. We're not throwing our best pit beds. We're playing our three. worst pictures. Do you, tell everybody what you're doing tonight? Okay, we are opening up Forever Clear at the Manchester Music Hall. There's still a few tickets
Starting point is 00:41:32 available. Yeah, get it up. That's awesome. Manchester, Mushton.com, get your tickets. Come on out. Are you like a selfie guy? Like, when you go, when you go open forever clear, do you look at that guy and go, hey, this is awesome. Young Shannon, the dude would have never thought he would be with this guy. Do you take pictures or are you too cool for that? No, I didn't. When we opened up for third eye blind, we didn't even get the talk to the band. They were in a completely, well, we didn't really approach them. They were kind of there. I was like, I'm not going to go up. They didn't come thank you?
Starting point is 00:41:57 No. No. They didn't care. I don't think they heard our set. They probably didn't even care. See, but that's kind of rude. Like, I think they, I don't know what the etiquette is. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:08 But if you're open for third eye blind, I think third eye blind should at least come and say, hey, thank you for opening. I can tell you they didn't. We'll see if ever clear our nicer tonight. Are you going to go thank. So with that in mind, the people opening for you tonight. Yeah. Are you going to go thank them?
Starting point is 00:42:22 Yeah, absolutely. I'll talk to them. What's their name? I don't know, but we're going to meet them tonight. Good for you. 859-28027. We will take a break and come back for the final segment here at the summit. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:43:57 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. I might have been Shady Ray's first advertiser, and it has continued to grow, and they only have more choices, and appreciate everybody coming out. We're going to give away some more sunglasses here at the end, and thanks everybody at the summit.
Starting point is 00:47:05 One person writes, Matt, by the logic, you said you should thank Shannon and Billy every day for opening up on the pre-show. That's true, yeah. Where's our thanks? Yes. Thank you, Shannon and Billy for opening up. Absolutely. I guess that's a fair. I guess that's a fair analogy.
Starting point is 00:47:23 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, if you were to say one game where we'll win by the most points of the good games this year, that's an odd question. Which one would it be? I think we will, I think we'll stop Indiana. I think we're at home. I don't think they're very good. That's a double-digit win against Indiana at home.
Starting point is 00:47:50 What about you? It's a very good pick. Ruparino will be going crazy, Indiana. I mean, they haven't been good in forever. Just to be different, I'll say, the Gonzaga game. Oh, I like that. They've reloaded. And that big dude that's killed us two years in a row has played well,
Starting point is 00:48:07 but I just think the Nashville environment will be full of Kentucky games. Actually, I like that. I wish I thought of that. What about you? You guys took my two answers, so I guess this to be different, maybe I'll go Michigan State. Yeah, I mean, that game, we're used to that game being the first or second game of the year, it's actually now going to be like the fourth game of the year.
Starting point is 00:48:24 So we'll have played a few in the champions class in New York. We'll probably be the early game, which we're normally not, because Duke, Kansas will be the main game. So we'll probably play early. So I'll go with North Carolina. All right. So we think we're going to win all of them. What's the most likely game we lose this year?
Starting point is 00:48:42 Non-SCC of the non-conference game. What's the most likely loss? Because we know we'll lose a couple of them. St. John's. Yep. Rick. Rick's got a good team Pope's going to be looking at his coach
Starting point is 00:48:53 It's going to be a little bit of You think so? You think it's St. John's? I'm not surrendering to St. John's But of the teams, I think they're the most likely to beat Kentucky. See, I'm going to say Louisville Because we're playing on their floor
Starting point is 00:49:06 And it's the only true road game We have during that time. So as much as I don't want to say it, I think the answer is probably Louisville. What about you? Yeah, I was going to say Louisville because it's so early in the season but it's early in the season for them too, though.
Starting point is 00:49:21 It is. They're a new team, too, and they're going to be relying on freshmen even more than we are, probably. But it's just true road games are harder than neutral court games. They just are, generally speaking. So. Yeah, we're blowing out Florida. We're beating Florida. If we're talking about football, we're going 11 and 1.
Starting point is 00:49:41 I'm not worried about that. What's next? Got Joe up next. Joe, go ahead, Joe. I'll make a quick, Matt. hopefully McCowan will have a great year of running the football, but mostly Matt, he has to be able to block somebody too. So hopefully our tight ends and our running backs will block somebody this year,
Starting point is 00:50:02 and we'll have a great year in football. And my bowl prediction, we'll play Nebraska and Dane Key. Who is Ryan Liven going to pull for, Nebraska or Kentucky? Thank you, goodbye. That's an interesting question. If we played Nebraska in a bowl game, what would you do? I would not go and watch the game in the basement of my house with nobody around me You would not go?
Starting point is 00:50:23 I probably wouldn't I'd be afraid to go Can't believe you won't pick Kentucky It's one guy versus Kentucky You say I hope Dane gets catches but I want Kentucky to win What's wrong with you? I love Dane I want him to have a great season A music city ball is not going to change his life
Starting point is 00:50:38 Yeah I mean He can have 200 yards and we still win So when he catches a ball I'm going to be like clapping then people Kentucky fans are going to be throwing oranges at me. I don't think people would throw orange. But if you're hoping Nebraska wins, I'm going to throw a corn cob in your face. No, I don't
Starting point is 00:50:55 want Nebraska win. I want Dane to have a great season. Get a high pick in the NFL but yeah, I would pick Kentucky to win. Okay, I was about to say. It took three times, Shannon, to get that answer. Yeah, I'm not so sure you would have picked that if you had to talk about it. That doesn't happen. In front of all these people wearing UK gear, that should
