Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Starting point is 00:01:37 I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on, a Mormon polygamist, and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. It is Tuesday, August the 12th. I am Matt Jones on a beautiful day. Once again in Lexington,
Starting point is 00:02:51 Kentucky. We are two and a half weeks from the start of football. We're two weeks from the opening of KS. Bar, we are three and a half weeks from the start of the NFL season. You know, we are like two weeks before our first NFL podcast tape. There's a lot going on. But today we're here with you. 859, Clark's Pub Shop, phone line, 859, 280, 2287. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-745254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Smith, law, office. You call T. T.J. Makeem Pay. Ryan is gone. I've got Drew. I've got Shannon. I have 14 topics. They are of various significance from very significant to not significant at all. I think we'll do one of these where you just will say a number. Oh, okay. That's all right. Is that all right with you, Shannon? I want to make sure you, I want to make sure it's okay with you. Yeah, I mean, I'm really the most important one here.
Starting point is 00:03:46 So yeah, make sure it's okay with me. But before we do that, I want to tell a quick story. Can I tell a story before we get to the thing? So, you know, we went to Pittsburgh for the first. We went to Pittsburgh for Reds game did the show there yesterday. I made a mistake before the show started. I didn't look at the checkout time of the Airbnb. It was supposed to be 10. That seems early. I would assume 11.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Wouldn't you always assume? I always assume every hotel is noon, but that's become a change. I think when I was younger, every hotel said noon, and now they're like 11. And now some of them, Shannon, are starting to creep to 10. And I would argue that should be illegal. Well, mine is 10. Oh, yours is 10 on yours. My Airbnb is 10.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Why do you want everybody out so quick? Because you got to give the cleaning person enough time to come in because check-in time is 3 o'clock. And some of these people that clean have to do like five, six condos, so they're scrambling. You got to give them enough time. Well, I did not know. So I was doing the show. And then moments before we started, the guy just walked in. And I want you to imagine, again, when you're like running an Airbnb and you walk in and a person's doing a radio.
Starting point is 00:04:54 show in your house, Shannon, it looks, it looks strange. Yeah. Yeah, and I was like, sir, I'm doing a radio show. And he just, he goes, okay. And then he just walked away. And so I was able to finish the show yesterday. And you got friends with their knives out. Yeah, people got their knives out.
Starting point is 00:05:11 And then it's a whole thing. So we get in the car soon as it's over and we drive back. My buddy wanted to go to the Reds game and the Snoop Dog concert last night. So we're trying to get home in time for, for the, Do W. By the way, I heard that that stadium was full. I heard that maybe some families didn't know the kind of concert Snoop puts on and that some families may have left in the middle of it, Shannon. I put that on the family, right? If you don't know what Snoop Dog does, that's on you. That's not on the race. But there were people complaining how could the Reds have him? I would argue it's on them, Shannon, don't you think? Yeah, I mean, I think you should know when it's Snoop Dog Night at Great American Ballpark. Yeah, what do you think? You think this is going to be family dog?
Starting point is 00:05:57 It's Snoop dog. I mean, literally, murder was the case that they gave him. And he was charged with murder. So I don't know. I just, when does the concert fit into the night? Is it like the seventh inning stretch? Well, it usually starts. The game last night went really quick, so they had a long delay before they start the game.
Starting point is 00:06:16 But what they do is when the game is over, they open parts of the field. People can run on it. Okay. And then they let everybody move. to the side so that they can see. But, I mean, tickets were going for hundreds of dollars. I said people wanted to see Snoop Dog. But anyway, so we're driving back.
Starting point is 00:06:32 And I forgot to do something that I always do, which is when I get a riddle car, Shannon, get satellite radio. Because I want to be able to flip the music. And I like, you know, this was going to shock you. I like having the control of the music, et cetera. Forgot to do that. So that meant, you know, it's either listen to FM and AM stations in Western Pennsylvania. I've already listened to most of my podcast.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Plus, they don't want to hear, these are not like hardcore sports people. They don't want to hear Bill Simmons. Or that Pittsburgh show we listen to that I didn't. Yeah, they don't want to hear Mark Madden. So what I did is I was like, all right, I'm going to turn on sports radio because I never listened to it. Now's the moment. First thing I do is turn on New York Sports Talk radio just to listen to them whine about
Starting point is 00:07:14 the Yankees and the Mets. I'm going to go ahead and tell you, I highly recommend when a team is losing that's high profile, Shannon turn on their radio. Right? Pick the city that's had the biggest heartbreak recently. Turn on sports radio there, Drew. I find it very fun. And when it's New York, and they're like, fire everybody. Because the Mets and the Yankees are stinking right now, that's great entertainment. A good meltdown can be entertaining. As long as it's not your team. Exactly, as long as it's not your team. I love everyone else's misery. When we're losing, it's not good.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Then I flip to national sports radio, it's just so boring. And I'm not, I mean, I know I do it. But in general, like, they don't have the passion. You know, and it's all Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott. Training camp, I believe me, because I have to do it. I know what it is. So then I decided to do something I don't do a lot, Shannon. And our old boss here used to say, don't talk about competition. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:11 But you know what? Like, that's part of it, right? Like, you do talk about it. I have not listened to the cut man, Alan Cutler, in like, ever, at least certainly in many, many years. And he comes on, I think, right after this on another station. So I thought, you know what, Chen, I never listened to The Cutman.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Everything I hear always has filter. You get no filter. And he gets, he's no filter. Yeah. I need no filter. I think I had heard one segment once because it was like, you know, I don't remember why I'd heard it. But, but, but, but, but, but, but, so I turn on the podcast for no filter.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Alan Cutler is still so Alan Cutler. And let me say as someone who I grew up watching Alan Cutler. So I find Alan Cutler entertaining with his Alan Cutlerness. People think I talk a lot. He doesn't stop talking. There's like no commercials. I mean, don't you agree? It's like 40 straight minutes of and there is some person on the show named Jimmy.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Oh, yeah. Jimmy, Jimmy. Hey, Jimmy. What are you doing, Jimmy? Jimmy, as far as I can tell, doesn't speak. But he's always talking about Jimmy. But I'm listening. He's talking about UK football. He's going into a lot of detail about UK football. I mean, he is like just UK football, UK football. And then all of a sudden, we're like 25 minutes in. And, you know, time is passing. I'm looking at the, you know, I'm driving through now, Zanesville, Ohio. I'm like, isn't that where the monkey ate the people's face. Do you remember that? You remember that? The monkey escaped. When was this? I don't remember it happened though. I don't remember a zoo. A guy had a zoo, I think. And somebody came and opened all the doors. And the animals just took over town.
Starting point is 00:10:13 I mean, I think it's a Robin Williams movie. But then I also think I'm telling you, I think it happened in Zanesville, Ohio. The Zanesville Museum. I'm telling you. You look it up. Zanesville, Ohio. There was like an animal takeover. One of them became mayor, and it was a whole, it was a, it was a whole thing.
Starting point is 00:10:32 48 animals were killed by law enforcement because they were just running around. But in my ride, it was in Zanesville, Ohio. See, Shannon, you made fun of it. But then one of it, you said all those animals got killed, but one animal had the last laugh, right? The one that ate the man's face. I don't remember if that's the same story. There was a time an animal ate a woman's face. This is not sweet or anything.
Starting point is 00:10:52 But like, I don't know if that was in. Zanesville or if that was in a different place. Point being, when I drive through Zanesville, I always think of that story. So I'm driving through Zanesville. If you've made that drive from Pittsburgh to Columbus, not a lot of things to look at. Alan Cutler's talking about football. Jimmy's just sitting there
Starting point is 00:11:07 doing Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy. And then all of a sudden, again, I'm just trying to enjoy my drive. Shannon, he just starts attacking me. About what? Out of nowhere. He just starts attacking me. And he's like,
Starting point is 00:11:23 You know, when I don't know what's going on, I say what's not going. Well, I say it. Like, nobody would ever accuse me of ever acting like I know what's happening and I don't know. Maybe. Then he goes, but you know who does that? Matt Jones. I'm just driving. There's Saintsville, Ohio.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Catching strays. Catching strays. The definition of catching strays. He just starts blasting me. And he's like, Matt Jones is always saying he knows everything. He doesn't know everything. Yeah, he's got good ratings. What does that have to do with anything?
Starting point is 00:11:53 He was like, but he doesn't know anything. Just remember that. Right, Jimmy, right, Jimmy. What do you think, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy? And it's like, it's like two and a half minutes of me just catching strays. And my friend, tall, is sitting in the front seat with me. And in classic him, every time Cutler says something, he just looks at me and goes, boo-ya, in your face.
Starting point is 00:12:16 He's like, cut man, no filter. And he's just, and so I'm just taking it the whole way. and Shannon, I didn't do anything to him. I haven't said one bad word about him. And here I am in Ohio just taking it from Cutler for two or three minutes. And then he moves on. He goes, but I love Matt Jones. Back to UK football.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Did you ever consider calling in at any point? No. Well, actually, I did. Because he asked for calls. No one called. I was going to call. I was going to let him talking about. I was going to be like, Matt from Lexington.
Starting point is 00:12:47 But I didn't because, you know, I was watching out for the animals in the street in Zanesville. But it's just, you know, you think you're going to have a relaxing Monday drive. Turn on. That's what I get for Turn It on Sports Radio. Why did I turn it on? I should have just listened to Willie's Roadhouse. You know, when we leave here, I'd say most days on my drive home, I go to the Cupman. Usually Clay and Buck come on, and I'm like, oh, crap.
Starting point is 00:13:08 And I need some sports talk, and Cup Man's there for me. No filter. Well, no filter. So anyway, I didn't like that. That would be weird. You just think you're going to tune in and hear what they have to say about camp and start talking about you? Because they were just talking when I was on the New York station. They were just talking about Juan Soto.
Starting point is 00:13:26 And they think it's really funny that he only hits solo home runs. So one guy's like, Juan Solo, and then they just crack up. I'm used to that level of banter. And then they're like, Matt Jones, like she knows everything. Well, Billy was telling me that he had something to say about me, saying, I don't know anything about sports and all this and that. We acknowledge. We don't know anything. I mean, I forgot. I didn't, you know, know that Cutler played college sports or any kind of sports.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Listen, Jimmy. We don't know anything. I want to be very clear. Everyone listening to this knows. We have no knowledge. You hear Ryan, unless it's the preamble to the Constitution, he can't say anything. A whole year of Kobe O'Brien.
Starting point is 00:14:10 An entire year. I was the 11th man on the Middlesbrough High School team. They asked me to be a manager. Politely. So you're not listening to this show. for expertise. You're listening for entertainment. I still, I've called our quarterback,
Starting point is 00:14:28 Zach Kalsada all year. Well, you've called him Nick. That is his name. We're going to get to there. You've been calling him Nick. Will Wolford and Nick Calzada are your boys. Eric Wolford, Zach Calzada. There's actually someone on KS board
Starting point is 00:14:44 whose username is Nick Calzada, Will Wolford, in your honor. He proves your point. Wait, me. So. So it is Zach. It is Zach. Not Nick.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Not Nick. You usually say Nick. Okay. Zach Kalsa. See, this is a sports show. It's your proof. I don't, of all the things you could accuse us of. I don't think it's acting like we know more sports.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Now, since you brought up Nick, since you brought up Zach Kauzaa, there's a lot of rumblings that this job is not his yet. that Cutter Cutter Peanut Butter Has been Has been better in camp I mean let's be real If you talk to people that have been there There are people who say Cutter Bowley has been better
Starting point is 00:15:32 I think the plan is still to start Zach But if you ask the people that go to camp And the people that are in practice They will tell you Cutter Bowley has been better Do you think there's a chance We get to that first game And Cutter Cutter Peanut Butter is starting? No I mean I think Cutter will play at some point
Starting point is 00:15:48 the year. What if he is better? If he's better, should you not starting? Or is it just you'd... I wouldn't week one. Okay. You've invested in Calzada. He's got one year.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Cutters your future. If you throw him out there... But what if he's been better all five weeks or all six weeks of camp? Like how much do you have to see? I mean, if that were the case, then you'd start him. But he's been with the twos a lot. The two practices I went to, he did look great. But Calzada is taking the snap.
Starting point is 00:16:18 There is a difference between going against the first and the second. And Cutter, as everything I've heard around him, he has the right attitude. He knew when Calzada signed that Calzada would likely be the first quarterback and that Bowley's the long-term option. And by all accounts, it sounds like he's patient and knows that he's the future and he's not in a hurry. But I mean, yeah, if he were just absolutely killing it every day, you'd have to go to. I just think if it, I think you have to think about it.
Starting point is 00:16:42 Because if you talk to, again, they don't open the practice. So it's hard to really know. But if you talk to the people that go, they will. all say they'll make sure nobody's looking. They'll make sure Jimmy's not there. And then they'll say Cutter's been better. He has looked awesome. Without a doubt, this
Starting point is 00:16:58 is the best too deep they've had. Of the Stoops era and probably going back to the quarterback situation's better than it's been in the Stoops era. That seemed like bold statement. I can't think of a second option that has been this close to the first option. And then even behind them, you got Bo Allen
Starting point is 00:17:14 in year of 15 and a couple freshmen that look all right. 859-2-8-80. 2287, 772, 774, 754. We're going to be filtered all day, just so you know, full of filter. It is me, it is Shannon, it is Zach. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Starting point is 00:18:26 Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough
Starting point is 00:18:50 because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:19:04 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast. Learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Search Learn the hard way and listen now. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going.
Starting point is 00:19:39 From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:19:55 An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecky. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like, being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning.
Starting point is 00:20:18 It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extreme,
Starting point is 00:20:45 ordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. 8.5.9-2-80-2287. Text machine, 772-754. What person writes, Matt, I do listen to the cut man sometimes. He takes shots at you all the time.
Starting point is 00:21:44 And Shannon, actually. he doesn't say much bad about Drew or Ryan. Also, no one takes more shots at you on there than Brad Taylor. Who's Brad Taylor? That's all you need to say. Who is that? No, I mean, I'm not even being a jerk. Who is that?
Starting point is 00:22:00 I don't know. I think that's the guy that follows Cutler on that station. On what station? On his station? There's a person named Brad Taylor that has a show. It's like a gambling thing. He always says the blogger boys across town. blogger boys yeah so you do listen to this stuff then Dore you're all in tune I know I
Starting point is 00:22:19 turn it off when Brad Taylor starts I do listen to color blogger boy I haven't been called a blogger in a long time me either once last time you did a blog I would say I'm pretty regular with in quite some time the blogger boys actually that would be that sounds like a band name yeah that would be a good band name color does reference the show a lot it's not always negative but he does bring us up a lot uh what person writes I feel like shit it was about to cook and you cut him off on being upset about it. No, I want you go. I like when you get angry.
Starting point is 00:22:49 He's an old man. He's so insignificant. Nobody even listens to him except for apparently you and Drew. I did. I was one day. I didn't even know. If the tree falls in the forest, nobody hears it. What's it matter?
Starting point is 00:23:03 I love you. All right. Before I go, the phone's here, one to 14. Shannon, I'll let you pick first. Yep. I'll go number three. Number three. John Gruden says he wants.
Starting point is 00:23:13 wants to coach in the SEC. Let's say we go three and nine. Knowing he has said, I want to coach in the SEC, and there are only 16 schools, and there's going to be only probably two that have an opening, maybe three, do we start to hear all of that at the end of the year if we were to go three and nine? I've already seen fans making memes,
Starting point is 00:23:37 and he's photoshopped on the sideline. I think Groon's entertaining, and I think he's doing well in media. with bar stool. I don't know that you can hire a guy who hasn't coached college since the 80s. That's not what I asked you. I asked you, if we go three and nine, how much of that it will be out there? Shannon, you're shaking your head. That would be my first call. I would love to have John Gruden here. I think we'd be crazy not to want to have him here. You get John Gruden or John Sumrawl. Let's say they both would say yes. Gruden all day, all day, not even a question. If Sumrah's on the table,
Starting point is 00:24:11 I don't even consider Gruden. What I do is offer him a coordinator position on some way. He hadn't coached college in almost 40 years. It's still football, though. Yeah, but the college game is. I'm not trying, let me cry, I'm not trying to run Stu's off. I'm just saying to you, at the end of this football season, after that statement, there are going to be at least one or two SEC fan bases that are going to be having this conversation.
Starting point is 00:24:34 And if you were to place Vegas odds on which one is most likely to have it, we would probably be the odds on favor. It would probably be us in Arkansas if we're being, if we're being honest. Well, I don't think 10 or more of those schools can even consider him because they're a lot further along than we are. It would have to be a UK or in Arkansas. I think it's UK and Arkansas would be the two that would look at. Imagine Arkansas gets them, has a great, you know, great success, great run with Gruden and it could have been us. But remember, this is a school. Mitch Barnard are almost hired Bill Parcells. Let's just keep that in mind. People forget about that. It's one of the great
Starting point is 00:25:08 kind of in the back of UK history moments is that they had Bill Parcells on a plane to bring him here and then Jerry Jones called and they flipped around and went to Dallas. A lot of people don't remember that, but that's true. So I want Mark Stub's to be here. Hopefully we go nine and three with Nick Kowalsod. But nevertheless, but I'm telling you that if things go the opposite way, that is a conversation. that will occur. Noah, go ahead, Noah.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Hey, Matt, I want to get your opinion on this, and I apologize if you guys have already talked about for this in the past, but from last year's March, or Big Blue Madness, where we had that big ASB glass for that you could put in. Yeah. I wonder what you guys thinking of like, if that's something of like you think UK should be putting in
Starting point is 00:26:06 or hear your opinion, and then I'll think of like what, if that's on UK should maybe try in again for the future. Because in my mind, I'm thinking, And obviously, this is something that's going to get the ooze and awe as a fan really cool at the same time. And correct me if I'm wrong, but it feels like that's taken up around like 90% of your entire production budget. Yeah, everything cool, if you do it too much, will not be cool. Like, I mean, the soldier boy was cool at one point.
Starting point is 00:26:30 And then they played it so much. Now you can't do the soldier boy and it'd be cool. I appreciate the call. I feel like every influencer, like you got it and you don't. So I think the key is to always make something different and exciting. So do you do the floor again? If you can make something different and make it interesting, sure, but they'll come a point. You have to come to something else.
Starting point is 00:26:48 I just want them to always be like going for whatever the next thing is. Sometimes it might not work, but keep it up. We did that in the early cow years. Then we kind of didn't for a while. It got stale. It was good to see them go back to that. I hope they continue to do that. You have to be on the cutting edge.
Starting point is 00:27:06 And when you're on the cutting edge, sometimes you're going to swing and miss. That's okay. You keep going and keep taking another at bat at it. Now, the floor is very cool for something like madness, and I'm with you, if it can keep advancing, I can't even remember exactly the tricks they did, but if they could, like, have, you know, spots pop up or, you know, you get a five-pointer from a random circle that pops up, things like that, that would be unique. But if it just continues to be videos, that might get a little stale.
Starting point is 00:27:29 But I wouldn't mind them trying it a few more times. It is pretty impressive. Just keep pushing the envelope. That's, I think, how you make it to where you go, ooh, what's next? That's what you want to do. A fun story about that court. My neighbor installed it, and he dropped one of the panels. They're very expensive.
Starting point is 00:27:44 Jay, go ahead, Jay. Hey, guys, calling you all from the beautiful sunshine state this morning. I'm originally from Fleming County, but my family's on vacation down here, and I had nothing to do today, kind of a bad weather day, so I'm going to Gainesville to see the Tom Petty Childhood House. Oh, that's kind of cool. And probably go stop by Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and see if I can't get in early Napier's ear for a minute. but yeah, I just wanted to say, hey.
Starting point is 00:28:14 That's kind of cool. I would like to do that. Go ahead, quickly. Yeah, I'm super stoked about it. Real quick, I heard through the great bond that your McPryd entity of McDonald's was the same people that funded Tennessee's McDonald's bags. You're breaking up, man. I don't know where you are if you're out on the beach or something.
Starting point is 00:28:40 At Tom Petty's house. Yeah, he's at Tom Petty's house. Sorry, we had to back down because we can't hear you, Jimmy. So I'm, uh, that's the end of the line. I would love to go. I would love to go to, uh, you know, to, to the Tom Petty House. But don't come around here no more with that phone because it's not working. We don't mention that company.
Starting point is 00:29:02 By the way, that is cool when they do that at the Florida game. Oh, yeah. When they play his song. I got Stoops video to it when we won down there. That was awesome. Yeah, that's it. That is very cool. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:29:11 We're back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:25 This is a wonderful. I mean, we've talked about this a lot. Tom Petty's a top five artists for me. First concert I went to, first time I in person smelled what marijuana smelled like. Like, just really in person to be like, oh, that's what it is. You know. Your first dance with Mary Jent. Yeah, well done.
Starting point is 00:29:46 See, that's why you got to have to. He's good at it. 859-2-80-2287. One person says, Matt, I listen to a lot of local shows in both Lexington and Louisville. I do find it kind of sad. They all mention you a lot. I never really hear you mention them. That's true, completely.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Well, I don't know if it's true. They mention me. I don't listen to it. But I don't, you know, when we got started many years ago, Drew remembers this. we just took shots at people and I always have regretted some of that because I thought like why did I do that? And it was, but if you look at it, it was just trying to like build our thing. Almost all of those people are no longer in media.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Alan Cutler's probably the last one. And so the same thing is true with the new people now. Like they got to find a way. I mean, the reality is, and I don't say this to be mean to any of them. There's not one local show in Lexington or Louisville that rates anything on any radar. except I think Drew Deiner does a little bit, maybe. And then the HAS shows they're not really sports, though. But nobody else does.
Starting point is 00:30:52 So like I get it. They're trying to, it is what it is, you know. But I don't know who they are. Like I didn't know who Brad Taylor was. Honestly, I didn't know there was a person named Brad Taylor. And when's he on? After Cutler. Well, I don't know what that is.
Starting point is 00:31:07 What time is that? I guess Cutler's two hours. I think. So two. Yeah. Okay. Well, I wish him the best, Shannon, because I don't know. And the day, like, if you think about it, you know me a long time, Shannon. I don't squabble with anybody locally anymore. No, but you used to. Oh, for sure. Like Kyle Tucker. Yeah. And then, well, what's funny is they all just ended up where we were. After criticizing us for years, the Harold, the courier, all of them have just ended up doing the exact same thing KSR does just not as good. So for years, we were told we were evil. And now they all just do the same thing. I saw ESPN the other day is hiring a 22-year-old TikTok person. Saw that. They should.
Starting point is 00:31:54 But like, they're just now doing what the barstools of the world did just later. And that's what happened here locally, right? Like, they just, and, but the difference between us and them is we saw it coming. And I knew that wasn't going to work. And so, you know, so I do not take it personal. Although, I was just driving through Zanesville, Ohio. All right. 1, 2.13.
Starting point is 00:32:16 Give it to me. My lucky number 10. Number 10. Let's see. 13. This is a little complicated. Let's take a call and then I'll go to it. Andy, go ahead, Andy.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Hey, guys. Hey, I spent 16 years living in Zanesville. And I was like five minutes from where the zoo animals got let out and the guy let them out. Were you there when they let them out? Were you there when they let them out? Yeah, I lived about five minutes from the guy's house. Oh, so what happened? Tell me, so they say, hey, 46 zoo animals are out.
Starting point is 00:32:52 What did you do? I stayed in the house. Were you nervous? Were you nervous? There's not going to be an elephant outside? No, because I really didn't know exactly what was going on until after the fact. And, you know, I was listening to it on the news, and I had people calling me from Kentucky. from other states that I knew was asking if I was okay and everything.
Starting point is 00:33:16 What turned out, I guess the guy, it was kind of a sad, well, it wasn't a sad story. He was facing charges and let all his animals out and committed suicide. Oh, well, way to bring it down, Andy. I was just trying to eat. Well, I think that's what happened. Yeah, well, the truth is the truth. Some of the animals got rescued. That's good thing.
Starting point is 00:33:37 That's good. That's good. All right. Thank you, Andy. 859, 280, 280, 289, 287. One person writes, don't you feel it's disrespectful that you and Drew call Zach Kowzada, Nick? I do not do it on purpose. I will get it right. It is Zach.
Starting point is 00:33:51 I want him to be successful. I want him to kill. You know, when he was on the show, he seemed like a nice kid. I want him to be successful. I also want Kentucky to win. And if Cutter Bowley is better, he should play. There is a fallacy in poker called the fallacy of the sunk cost, which is you've got so much money in. You feel like I have to do this because the money.
Starting point is 00:34:11 is in. You have to know when to fold them, right? You have to know when it, so when it doesn't work. Now, I'm not saying whether they're there at all with, with Calzada. But if Cutter's better, it doesn't matter what you paid in NIL or anything else. You have to do what's right. We'll see what it is. I'm not taking a position, but I don't think we should be stuck on. It has to be this guy, because he was who it was supposed to be. Yeah, and Cutter, Cutter looks really good. I worry that if, like, let's say the line. doesn't pan out or it's just not a good year. Cutter is your future. If you put him on
Starting point is 00:34:45 a bad line and he has a bad year, that can derail his future. So that's why I say... But see, but he may not be here anyway. I mean, I don't... I think you're right about that, but I don't think you can do that in today's college football. In today's college football, where people can leave any year, Shannon, I think
Starting point is 00:35:01 you got to do for this year. You can't assume for the future. None of these dudes may be here next year. So, like, you have to do what's best for the team that's on the field that year, because you don't even know if you're going to have these guys the next year. Yeah, Cutter may stick around and we may end up going to the transfer portal and getting somebody better and then Cutter has to sit again. And there's a lot riding on
Starting point is 00:35:24 this season. Let's put the best guys that we have out there from the very beginning. I don't care if you're supposed to be the starter or not. If another guy's better put him out there. I mean, to your point, I get what you're saying, which is you don't want to get Cutter hurt, but let's say you keep Cutter on the bench, you don't get him hurt, and then he leaves. What good did it do you? I'm with you. And I think Calzada is still maybe even better than him. Like, Calzada's been good too. It's just Cutters turned heads because what we saw last year, you know, he's thrown into tough spots, Florida, at Texas. He looks much better than he did in those games. And it's exciting to see him. It's not that Calzada's been bad or anything.
Starting point is 00:35:57 And honestly, they're going to run so much. I could be quarterback. It is going to be run, run, run, run. Calzada said himself, we're going to run a lot. So what's the point of talking about six wide receivers if we're not going to throw the ball? Well, Calzada, he's even said in interviews on Media Day, we're going to run, run, run, and we're going to hit a play action where I can show off my arm. So he is a good deep ball threat, and I think that's where he's going to come into play. But it is going to be run, run, run, and then lose 27 to 6. Just seems like the most disappointing thing. I think we lose 19 to 20.
Starting point is 00:36:29 It's going to be like those games. Well, I mean, that's at least competitive. All right, so the one you pick there, number 10, do you all use the website letterbox D? Never even. Or letterboxed? No. Never heard of it.
Starting point is 00:36:44 I'm just going to tell you, be careful if you get on it. So I guess it's like a social media site for movies. Okay. So you make an account and you rate all the movies you've ever seen. First of all, when you start that process, that takes a long time. you've seen a lot of movies. But if I just sit here and say, name the movies you've seen, it's kind of hard to come up just with movies off the top of your head.
Starting point is 00:37:10 I sat there one day. Next thing I know, I was 200 movies in, continuing to write. It's on a zero to five star scale. And you sit there and you go, okay, is wedding crashers better than stepbrothers?
Starting point is 00:37:21 Or is it the same? Or is it worse? And you're doing it. And then it gives you recommendations. And then you can follow people and you can follow your friends and and see what movies they like and what they've reviewed. viewed and it sounds stupid but then once you get on, I'm on there. I'm Matt Jones, KSR.
Starting point is 00:37:38 I don't care if you follow me or not. It doesn't matter. I'm not asking you to. I'm just saying like, I think the only thing I like is just going back and going, did I like Avatar? Was it a two? I know, well, no, two and I have no two. So there's decimals.
Starting point is 00:37:52 I feel like just five. It's halves. Okay. You can do half. But it's like if you're deciding to go back and watch a movie you've already seen, why would I do that? I hate it. Why would I do that?
Starting point is 00:38:00 Exactly. You can go back and look. look, it keeps up. But the thing is, there's a big up front cost in trying to remember all the movies that you've watched, right? I'm sitting there going, yeah, I did see three men and a baby. I don't remember my reaction to it, but I did see it. And I've probably rated hundreds of movies. And there's still a ton to do because you don't remember. And then in theory, as things come out, you do them more, but I'm still trying to catch up. I'm up to 384 on, I do IMDB, but it's similar to what you're talking about. Yeah, but letterbox is a cool one now, just so you know. No, I don't care what's
Starting point is 00:38:34 cool. It's for my own TV. I want you to follow me, Shed. I want you and I to be letterboxed for it. I'll have to get on there then. It also then people can create their list like the 50 best movies of all time and all that. I think check it out. I think you would love it. It's got, it's very much a Drew Franklin. I'm disappointed. I didn't already know about it. Yeah. Well, it's just, I'm telling you, though, if you get on it, it's, it's. it's addicting because then you just want to make sure you have all your movies. If you've ever dominated a trivia night or you know every word to the preamble like our man
Starting point is 00:39:09 Ryan Lemon, the national civics bee is Thursday, four to six at the Kentucky State Fair. It's like a spelling bee, but about civics, constitution, and our democracy. Starting point is 00:39:39 civics beat. And then, by the way, Friday, KSR is at the State Fair. Looking forward to it. Yeah. One of my favorites of the year. KSR is Friday at the State Fair. Between now and then, I'll let you know where at the State Fair it is. But be ready. This is our yearly State Fair show. Do you think the one guy is going to come by? I was about to ask you the same question.
Starting point is 00:39:56 He's going to come by, isn't he? I think he got banned. from there. Was it last year? Yeah, I bet he's there. I think they ban him and then he comes back the next year until he gets ban. One year ban. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:06 He comes right back. I bet he's going to be there. I hope he is. But anyway, we will be there Friday. That's the, it's a second, it opens Thursday. So this is the second day of the fair. We'll be there Friday for KSR. We'll take a break and be right back.

It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.

And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. at our level at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything.

Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio. Doesn't look like a lot of your on letterbox. It's all right. You can thank me later. Actually, the message board had several people say they're on there. Okay, good. The text machine usually when I say something like that,
Starting point is 00:44:33 like I had four people write me. They were from Zanesville. I thought there'd be people sort of saying letter, but I guess not. But I understand. Maybe I'm on the cutting edge. One person got Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, Jimmy, the dude. You guys are nuts.
Starting point is 00:44:47 We're three weeks before the season, and you're already trashing the starting quarterback, manufacturing a controversy. This is the reason some people hate KSR. the negativity. It's not negativity. It's a conversation. Remember last year,
Starting point is 00:45:02 I got trash for saying there was a way we could go to the playoff. That was being too positive. What people don't like is not the negativity or positivity. They don't like when people disagree with them. Whatever position they have, if I don't have that position,
Starting point is 00:45:17 then that's somehow a fault in my personality. Obviously, it comes through in politics a lot, but it also comes through in sports. Ask some people, they'll go KSR sunshine pumper's and they're too positive. Ask other people and they're too negative. The reality is what some people want.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Most people don't. Most people enjoy hearing different conversations. But what some people want like you, sir, is you just want people to agree with you. And if you want that, then just talk into a recording and just listen to yourself back. That'll be the easiest way for you
Starting point is 00:45:50 to make sure you get somebody that agrees with you on every state. I had someone write me just the other day about how negative I am about UK football at the time. And I'm like, two years ago I booked a room in Atlanta before the season. You wouldn't go on that one basketball game because it was the same day as a championship. What do you want for me? We're giving you what our raw emotion is. Last year I went in the season, ready to punch people in the face and was like,
Starting point is 00:46:12 we could go nine and three. And that video is still floating around the internet and people still make fun of it. This year, I don't feel as positive. I'm just telling you what I feel. I'm not as positive. video yesterday that came out. Now people are saying two and ten now after that video. Yeah, I mean that video, well, let's just say that was one of the topics.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Let's just talk about it for a second. So that video, you know, Shannon tweeted it out. Well done, Shannon. That was great. Thanks for that. And then Mario put out the video of us talking about it. So I got some information on what happened. The one of the two guys at wanted to do it.
Starting point is 00:46:45 He's off the team. I think it's our starting linebacker. I think it's our starting linebacker. They were trying apparently to recreate like a sorority rush video. This ain't the time, bro. Yeah. But right there, full stop.
Starting point is 00:46:59 That's when someone has to go, we're at SEC. I mean, I don't know about you. Not now. I'm not sure that Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis. Like, I'm not sure that they recreate a lot of sorority rush videos. Now, listen, I will do the stupidest stuff imaginable. And I'm okay with it. And this show does stupid stuff.
Starting point is 00:47:19 And I'm okay with it. I just don't know that that was the moment being like introducing the team let's do it. I'm told this I cannot confirm but I've heard this from two different sources that the video was put out early
Starting point is 00:47:34 by the kid then UK tweeted it out or something or retweeted it or I don't know if they somehow UK put it up and I was told someone showed it to the coaching staff and the staff demand did it be taken down?
Starting point is 00:47:53 As they should. And was not happy it got put up. That's what I was told. Now, I don't know, I can't swear to that. I do think that the kid put it out first, but I was told that someone that wanted to pitch me on the coaches there was like, what are you doing? Take that down.
Starting point is 00:48:07 You know how they have like reaction videos on YouTube? I would love to have a reaction video of Mark Stoop's face. Can you imagine that video for the first time? Could you imagine? That's the BBN United video behind the scenes. I want. And it was the yes.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Show me that stuff. You want to get me to subscribe to BB Un United. You show me Mark Stoops watching that video. There's a guy. You show me the first time Mark Stubbs goes to that player and was like, what are you doing? There's a funny video that we cannot possibly share because of the language, but there's a guy on TikTok that has a reaction to it and he's just screaming that Kentucky has to leave the SEC.
Starting point is 00:48:45 I saw it. They're like kick Kentucky out of the SEC. It says you have one month to get to conference USA. Listen. I understand, hey, this will be funny. Let's recreate the Zeta Vitty. I get it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:00 You can't put that out in the Kentucky unit. Like, do that on your own time. Yeah. You know. Do it after the season. Do it when we go nine and three. Do it at the bowl game. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:11 Okay. We're trying not to go. Toledo keeps gaining on us in the point spread every day. Oh, did you see the Toledo? update yesterday? That's one of the list. I can't think about it right now. Let's go to Scott.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Go ahead, Scott. Good morning, guys. Got a two-part question for you. Then I'll hang up and listen off off. Is there another college sports team that does a four-hour talk show five days a week? And if there's not, what other college team do you think could? Yeah, I mean, there's a few. There is no college sports team in the year.
Starting point is 00:49:50 United States that has a show as popular as this one and there is no one close. You know, we, when we got bought by On 3, I now have access to all the numbers on all this. KSR, the website gets more traffic than every other state, every other web, college sports website and it is not close. No one is within, no one's within the ballpark. Subscribers to the pay site, we're not in the top five because we've been free for so long, but in like a year and a half we got to where we're competitive. There's a handful above us.
Starting point is 00:50:27 But when it comes to daily traffic, nothing's close to KSR. When it comes to radio, there is no local college sports show in America. I want you to focus on this and other people can play it and you're going to be wrong. There's no college sports show in America that gets half the listeners KSR. Half. There's a couple like in Columbus. and in a couple other places that also have pro sports teams that might get more than half, but nobody gets more than this.
Starting point is 00:50:58 I've said this before. This is the number one locally rated sports show in the country. There's a few shows in big cities like in New York where the total listeners is higher, but it's because their population is like five times us, ten times us. So my point is no. And Kentucky sports is the reason. I'm not sitting here just bragging on us. It's Kentucky sports.
Starting point is 00:51:20 Our fans care. more than anyone else cares. In Alabama, Auburn, their fans care, but it's like they don't consume it like we do. You've seen it? We have access to the numbers of every website, every radio show in the country, and they're not even close.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Show me any radio show that can go out every Friday and have 100 people at a remote at 10 o'clock in the morning. There's not another one. There's not another one. Think about Indianapolis last year when we played Tennessee. We're not even in our state. And they were lined up a block down the road and couldn't get in. That's a combination of, I think we do a good job.
Starting point is 00:51:59 But it's also this fan base. This fan base don't ever let anyone tell you anything negative about Kentucky fans and how much they care. Nobody cares more than us. Nobody.
