Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, August the 25th.
I'm Matt Jones.
We are just five days away from the college football kickoff, Kentucky and Toledo,
one day away from KS Bar reopening, and we are here.
It is that time.
It is the week of sports beginning.
You can give us a shout to Clark's Pump and Shop.

We got a full house.
I got Drew, I got Ryan, I got Shannon.
Mario's over there.
Billy's over there.
We already had heated accusations from Saturday night.
and ready to go. Guys, it's
football week. I'm going to talk
a lot of football today. Not going to
start with it because I have some complaints I need
to mention to
the world. But
can you feel the excitement of football? I can.
I'm very excited. I know we still have the rest
of the week to get to the game, but game week just feels
completely different. Stoops will talk today.
Yeah. We'll see an actual depth chart that we can
put out and holding our hands. Zach Kalsata
name starter. Yeah, so it's finally here.
Very excited. It is game week. Even the first
Mark Stoops. Coaches shows tonight.
That's right. Toledo. Get some blue hens. No, it's not. They're not blue hens. What are they? Rockets. That's Delaware.
You get some to Delaware. We should play Delaware. I ain't worried about either one of you.
All right. So a couple things. First of all, we had our KS bar, friends and family opening Saturday. A couple things. One, Shannon, you told me Ryan Lemon made a mess of the place. Am I correct about that?
moment, yeah. So Mario, first of all, knocked into one of our servers and knocked sour cream all over the place.
So Mario started it with a sour cream knock. Ryan then tries to be helpful, gets down and starts wiping up the sour cream, then stands up, turns around, and immediately knocks into another server who's coming with a pint of beer in each hand and spills beer all over the server.
Oh, wow. Yeah, so you're the one that spilled all the beer. I didn't know that. I heard of it. Comedy of it. I heard that there was beer on servers and that was you.
It was a great bump because all the beer went on him.
Not a drop on me.
Not a drop.
And it was probably somebody just starting, right?
It was a brand new server.
Good.
Well, welcome them to the family.
Beer shower.
There's a lot of fun.
Thank you to the people listening here who are friends and family who came.
It was exciting.
Nice to have.
It had a lot of legends there.
I mean, Drew missed it because he was on the Bachelor Party.
But you had, let's just go through the Kentucky media legends.
You had Tom Leach.
You had Terry miners.
Rob Bromley,
made an appearance.
Rob Bromley.
Rob Bromley.
Right.
He made an appearance.
Jeff Piccoro made an appearance, right?
Lee Cruz.
Mary Joe used to be Perino now Ford.
Yes.
All kinds of legends.
The biggest rock star in the whole building was your mom.
People were flocking to go talk to your mom.
People like my mom was just like had a list.
Just people coming up.
Yes.
People wanting to meet my mom.
There were some people.
I know a lot.
People that were there were so nice to my parents.
parents. Even Larry.
Like, we had C.J.
Kane, who plays with Tyler Childers.
Like, he travels around the world with Tyler Childers.
Came up to talk to Larry about playing the bass.
And Larry, of course, no idea who Tyler Childers is.
Like, he's talking to him and Shannon, Larry's like, you're in a band?
He had no idea who he was.
And I wanted to be like, Larry, he's in, like, the biggest, like, one of the biggest country acts there is.
But for Larry, he was like, well, I play.
It was great.
It was so sweet and C.J. was so nice to him.
And like, I just, I really enjoyed it.
It was good.
Well, I was in an area where I could see the people go to that table where your mom and
Larry were sitting.
All your trancy friends went to see them.
All your KSR friends went to see him.
All the people just wanted to meet your mom and talk to her.
She was, she had a steady flow of people coming to talk to her last, that night.
Do we need to start putting Karen on like the social media graphics?
No, I think, yes.
There's no doubt.
She's going to become, like, I mean, she's already, they're already more popular than me
in terms of likeability.
there's no doubt about that
and part of the reason why is what I'm about to do next
here we go
I'm going to say this like nicely because I don't want to be
one of these like NIMBY people
you know what NIMBY is like not in my neighborhood
okay I hadn't heard that
I say put up that park
first of all
extremely nice park
it's awesome as far as I've heard
no broken legs yet, although it's coming on that part, on that playground.
People there, first of all, you couldn't ask for two to better days of weather.
Perfect.
Perfect.
People everywhere.
Like, I think the whole city went to the park at some point.
And it seems to have gotten rave reviews.
Have you heard that?
I drove by Saturday morning, and it was a zoo, so you knew it had to be popular.
I mean, I think it's gotten rave reviews.
I've heard good feedback.
There's like fountains and there.
There's, you know, they're, there are stars and there's just all kinds of things, right?
Stars?
Yeah, like, you know, stars in the sky and they come down and like it's, it's, it's, it's, I feel like the park, in terms of as a park,
rave reviews.
With that said, I may have to have, have multiple people arrested.
It has caused my street to become Mad Max Furious.
Okay.
the parking situation down there is an issue.
Now, I mean, that's true for all town town events, right?
Right.
But it's especially true for this, I think,
because they don't have as many parking lots open
because it's like, it's not an event, you know?
So my street has become just taken over by people trying to park.
Now, here's the thing.
Shannon, you know me.
I'm fine with people.
Well, sometimes.
I want them to have fun.
I want them to do whatever.
You're very patient on the road.
But my street,
my street essentially is a two-lane street.
But three cars could get through if they need to.
You are allowed to park on one side of the street.
That allows it to still be a two-lane street.
Are we following each other?
I follow you.
Starting on Saturday, people just decided ignoring the yellow line.
Do people still know what yellow lines mean?
Doesn't sound like it.
to park on both sides of the street.
Now, if it's one day, you know me, laid back.
All right.
But it's chaos because then it becomes a one-lane street at a dead end.
Now, think about what a one-lane street at a dead end is.
You get people going both ways and there's nowhere for them to go.
Yeah.
Okay?
So you just run into each other, just look at each other, waiting for each other to move.
then more cars pile up behind them.
And this happens from 9 a.m. till 10 p.m.
And never stops.
And oh, by the way, there's a street full of people that need to get out.
Okay.
Also, my parents are there Saturday.
So you can imagine them trying to navigate that.
So driving in and out literally is a war zone.
I'm going out with a battle axe.
Maybe not the best thing.
Trying to get people out of the way.
All right.
with your ex.
So there were many encounters.
I'm going to give you the most pleasant one.
Okay, the pleasant one.
The most pleasant one is I go,
one person is leaving,
so one parking spots becoming open.
Again, because it's free,
this is where everybody wants to be,
because everything else is charging, right?
This woman,
wonderful lady, okay?
Older black lady with her sister,
and there are maybe three kids in the in the back she's driving a minivan she's trying to parallel
park oh i can tell shannon this person is not a parallel park you know what i mean oh yeah yeah
i watch her go up back up and back and up and i'm like the restaurant opening is coming i got to go
get there so i get out very patiently i say ma'am
respectfully, would you like me to park your car?
And she said, oh, honey, yes, I don't parallel.
That's what she said.
I don't parallel.
So I got in her car, she's in a minivan.
She's got it jacked up to the front.
So my knees are like up on my face.
And I get in and I like, you know, I do it.
I parallel park the car.
Good for you.
All right.
I get it in.
she as I get out of the car she looks at me and she goes oh honey thank the Lord for men
if it wasn't for me and what would we do and then her sister's like oh if it wasn't for me
and I'm like now I'm almost embarrassed because you know I'm like you're the king of all men
right now no no because I'm like you're equal you're just practicing for your African
trip you can you can do this too right like we can all
do it.
You know.
She wasn't feeling it though.
Yeah, but she was being like overly nice, but I didn't want to be the guy.
Like only men can parallel park.
That sounds like something Ryan would say, right?
But anyway, then she walks out.
I'm like, I have to get out of my car and go, you've got to back up.
If you don't back up, none of us will get out.
I can't do this, Drew.
So I did the one thing that I've never done in my life.
I called the police.
Did you?
I called the police.
Yeah.
And I said, look, I don't want anybody told.
I don't want anybody, like, arrested.
But y'all got to do something.
You got to do something about this road.
You got, like, it's a disaster.
And I said, someone's going to get in a fight.
You have to do something.
They never came that I saw, at least.
Turns out they didn't have to do anything, huh?
It turns out they didn't have to do anything.
And Sunday was a little less chaotic,
But still, same issue.
They got to do something, Ryan.
And I'm not, like, I'm not the kind of person who goes to this town neighborhood zoning.
Like, I don't do that.
You should.
They're fun.
But I don't do that.
But I have registered my complaint privately.
And now I'm registered it publicly.
If it's like this again next weekend, you may be looking at a host whose head explodes.
And it's a shame because it's a beautiful park.
It was a beautiful weekend.
All set up to be a great day for everybody.
But there's not, but you see, you know where I am.
Yes.
You see how that can happen.
Oh, absolutely.
I can see it.
There's nowhere to go.
No.
You're just stuck.
So, I mean, they're going to have to police it.
They're going to have to tow people or police it or something.
I think they have to like, I mean, one guy parked in my driveway.
How do you have the audacity to park in someone's driveway?
Right?
It is a big driveway.
But ask.
True.
You don't know if somebody's coming in or trying to go.
I mean, like, you're going to have to block me in?
Like pulled up there next to the garage.
Is there a dedicated lot at all yet for the park to park?
I think there is, but there were so many people out there.
Like, you know.
And it's a unique event for the park.
I mean, they'll have big concerts, but it's not going to be like that often.
But this is going to keep happening.
Now, there's a sign that says you cannot park on this side during Rupp Arena events.
I think it's just got to say always.
Put your own sign out there.
Oh, well, my neighbor, you know what my neighbor did?
My neighbor put rocks in front of the driveway and a sign in the yard and said, get out.
Get out.
You should do the same thing.
thing. You didn't do the same thing.
I don't have any rocks.
But I guess if they drive down and dead in, they need someplace to turn around.
The reality is if they don't have my driveway, I don't think they could turn around.
They'd probably just have to abandon their cars and leave, and then I still couldn't get out.
Wow.
So the car graveyard over there.
It is.
So anyway, I've registered my complaint to the city.
The police, you're right, Shannon.
I said they have to do something.
Have to do something.
And they didn't have to do anything.
Let's get Linda Gorton on it.
She'll help you.
Because they didn't do a thing.
And what was that going to do about it?
Like, I mean, there's nothing I could do about it.
So I was like, well, you know.
I look forward to more of these conversations.
Like a UK game, there's what, 20 home games a year.
You're going to have every weekend.
But they see the sign that says you can't post here during Rupp Arena event.
So they don't.
But this isn't a Rupp Arena event.
For 30 bucks, I can get you a no parking anytime sign.
I'll throw in the 30 bucks to get you a no parking event.
And sign just go out there and put a post on it.
Do I have the ability as a citizen to determine that people can't park on a street?
I don't think I have that ability.
I mean, unless somebody pulls it out.
Well, it's true.
The police didn't come.
The police didn't come.
They're not going to come yank your son.
They're not coming either way.
Put it out there.
Well, maybe I should.
Maybe she just hang up my own, no parking anytime side on the street.
Get you a board with some nails sticking out of it, put at the end of your driveway?
My poor parents.
My mom just, here's what my mom did.
She came and just sat at the window.
like for an hour and looked outside and goes,
this is going to be a problem.
Yeah, yeah.
This is going to be a problem.
I was like, Mom, please sit down.
Like you staring at it is not going to make it anymore.
She cares.
She's being a good mother.
859-280-2287.
We are going to preview UK Toledo, the blue hens and the cats playing Saturday.
This is KS.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending.
Opinions are flying.

We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories,

Where's she at?
Hey, Ms. Parker.
Listen to the Cliverts show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the player.
without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court,
licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known
as Castro 1021.
And I'm Kunky, his best friend and business manager.
And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast.
I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers.
We also love sports.
And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest
storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA.
Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcast.
it's a good song choice i do like i do like the the park it's it's beautiful and there were a million
people yeah it was a beautiful weekend added to like a lot of good well it's definitely added traffic
believe me i can tell but uh i think it's overall a positive thing for the city beach boys now i
will tell you i ain't never going to have to pay for one concert there shit that's cool yeah
i can hear it in my soul in my restaurant or in my house yeah that's in the restroom and in
everywhere.
But, so that's good.
When they start getting good acts, that'll be good.
Have you used the splash pad yet when we catch you out there?
I'm not going to splash pad.
I'm not going to splash pad.
I don't feel the need to pad or splash.
But, but it'll be good.
859-28027.
One person says, Matt,
do you use the same tone with the police that you did on the radio?
No, I was very polite.
I didn't even say my name.
I was like, this is the street.
This is the issue.
I'm a concerned citizen.
I said, I didn't want to be.
like you know who you know I was just I'm just wanted to say hey this is like something to be aware of
you're just someone looking out for their community I did I do think I said you have to come out
and Shannon has proven that was a complete false don't tell police what they have to do they
have to do one thing and they were five with it all right UK Toledo 1245 on Saturday
um nervous is that cause I to name the starter yeah I
I, like I said, I don't want to be too overconfident, but I'm not nervous.
I feel like this is a game.
I think it will be a close game, but I think Kentucky's going to win the game.
They just have better players than Toledo does, so they should win the game.
I'm not nervous at all, even though it is a very difficult week-one opponent.
Felito is very good.
We've been saying all summer.
We know what Kentucky's up against, but I wouldn't say I'm nervous.
I still think they win, but I think it will be closer than you want those first non-conference games to be.
Are we winning at halftime?
Yeah.
Toledo was up 14-7 here about five years ago.
Got a little uncomfortable.
I think it'll be low-scoring, probably a boring game, but Kentucky will be in control.
Isn't there a stat that, like, Stoops is really good about covering, like his team's cover?
Well, we lose a lot.
So we cover a lot in losses.
We're one of the best teams of the country covering in losses.
That's not what we want Saturday, though.
And I don't even think it would be possible for us to cover during this game and lose because we're a favorite.
We've struggled in one.
week one. Like, I mean, we've won all the time except his first year or two, but we've struggled
in week one. We've had a lot of games where we didn't look great in week one. And then I think the
Toledo game was the most obvious. We were losing the halftime, came back. But we,
this is a team that over the years with Stoops has taken a little while to get the engine
revved. Yeah, in the last few years, it seems they've gotten a little bit better about it. Heck,
I'll remember the early days needing a spectacular catch to get ahead of Eastern Kentucky that one year.
and, you know, we had the Western games.
Not to get ahead, to win it.
It was the last drive.
Yeah, so we remember those.
Last year they played Ohio, the Mac team.
I think Ohio even won the Mac, and Kentucky handled them pretty easily, if I recall.
So hopefully it's more like that.
But we all have plenty of memories of when this game's been way too tight.
Did I see the Toledo came in like sixth last year in the Mac or fifth?
Yeah, they were.
Why is, what is the reason?
I have not followed the Toledo off season.
What is the reason that everybody thinks they're going to be so good?
Well, they went 500 in the Mac last year, which isn't great.
That's why they're middle of the pack.
But outside of the conference games, they beat Pittsburgh and Mississippi State.
They went 2 and 0 in the Power 4.
And then they bring lots of people back and train them.
Their coaching staff has been together like a million years.
They're just a program that's continually good.
Last year, they just lost some conference games.
Isn't their quarterback in the Heisman conversation even?
That can't be true.
No, no.
What he's talking about is Fox Sports did a simulation where they ran at 20.
six times and one of those times the Toledo
quarterback won the Heisman.
So take that for what it's worth. You didn't
think that was reality though. It was a video game.
There was something where he's being promoted
like I thought it was as a Heisman candidate.
He has a big year.
Okay. Yeah.
You want to go with that?
I'm going to go with that. Fact check time.
I'm going to go with that. Let's see if anybody
772-74525 or
at KYSport Radio on Twitter. Can anyone
find proof of someone?
When you say, when you say
They were being, or promoting them.
Who's they?
Maybe the Toledo sportswriters.
Are there Toledo sports riders?
Sure.
This was a story at Kentucky SportsRadio.com.
Okay.
What does it say?
I don't have it in front of me, but I remember reading it.
And again, it's Fox Sports that did this.
But it was the simulation of the video game.
It was a simulation for, no, for the regular season, I believe.
But it was on a video game.
They ran numbers.
They ran analytical numbers.
I'm not sure if it was for a video game.
I think it was for real football.
If it was not a video game and Fox Sports ran it and he won the Heisman,
I will say that your comment is relatively correct.
All right, I'll give you a relatively correct.
I knew nothing about a video game.
I just saw something where he was like in the conversation.
He said in the conversation.
You're currently putting him in the conversation.
I don't know his name.
Bitesbury Nature, Drew, a media member is putting him in the conversation with the
husband right now.
I'm a pretty big show. People might reference this in their previews.
This is going to be great because now people will say they're referencing him for the Hizman.
That's right. And they might be using you as a source.
Yeah, Ryan Liven put him in the Hizman conversation.
Why not?
All right.
Does anyone think this is just like an easy win and the game is not in question?
Shannon, you've been very positive on this team.
Do you think this is an easy win?
Yes. And if it's not, then we've got much bigger problems on our hands.
I'm not nervous at all about this.
I think Kentucky wins and they win convincing.
Now, sometimes, though, teams that are good can have a bad, I mean, remember, Notre Dame last year,
went to a championship game and lost to Northern Illinois.
That's right.
You know, a lot of people forget that.
They lost to Northern Illinois last year and ended up in the championship.
So that can happen.
I'm not saying that if we lose Saturday, I'm going to be like, hey, we're still going
the championship.
But, you know, I could see it being a difficult game.
There's never been a Kentucky team in my lifetime since I've been doing KSR, at least,
that I've known less about than this.
I freely admit to knowing almost nothing.
I've set aside part of Friday for study up for the pregame show on Saturday.
But I acknowledge in part because of their lack of doing the things that UK football has done over the years to promote their team,
in part because of the massive transfer of talent.
Drew, I have no idea what to expect.
There's a lot of people like you.
If you think about like the depth chart, which is probably coming out any minute now,
there's going to be a new starter at most positions.
How many positions are we going to even have a returner?
I mean, Jacori Macklin, or he didn't even start last year.
Receivers, running backs, quarterback, and most of the offensive line are all new.
So Jagger, who are going to be the return of stars?
Josh Caddus.
Jacker.
Any other offensive linemen?
The farmer kid.
Jalen Farmer.
All right.
Then on defense,
Alex Safari.
Jordan Lovett.
Jordan,
Love it.
Ty Bryant,
JQ Hardaway.
There's a little more
Returners on defense.
Like maybe six returning starts.
Yeah,
defensive line has some back.
Khalil Saunders and Josiah Hayzer.
I think some of those dudes may not start.
I think some of those guys have replaced them.
So it's probably
seven,
eight positions,
at least,
where you're going to have brand new people in there.
What kind of crap?
are we going to get?
Well, what we've talked about,
the opening day crowd is usually pretty good, you know?
I saw two tickets on the front row of one section for $100 today.
Oh, that's not good.
I'm worried about it.
I'm a little worried about it next Saturday.
I'm a little worried about this Saturday.
The people that set up the big tailgates tradition,
I'm not worried about them because that's what they do,
but they don't fill the stadium.
You need just a common fan.
And you do it.
You got to get the casual to fill the fans to fill the stadium.
to fill the stadium.
Yeah, we'll see.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
Tucky Sports Radio, 859, 2807.
Text machine 772-7525-4.
One person writes, Matt, no offense.
But how do you have opinions on football this year
while admitting to not knowing much about the team?
I mean, if people are not allowed to have opinions about things without knowing much about it, most conversation would stop.
I mean, when I get on Facebook, everybody has an opinion about everything.
And a lot of those people I went to high school with, and I remember what their grades were on the subjects that they do have opinions on.
I have multiple friends who failed many classes in biology who are experts on medicine.
So, yes, I'm just acknowledging, I'm acknowledging what is true about most people in your lives that talk about sports.
They don't know as much about it as they think they do.
I'm just acknowledging, I don't know much about this team.
Now, this week will change it a little bit.
We'll know more.
But one person writes, Matt, part of it is your all's fault.
You've talked less about football than any year ever, and that's partially why fans don't know it.
I mean, maybe a little bit, but let me also just be real.
We're in the business of entertaining.
This is an absolute fact.
Take it to the bank.
You can believe me or not, but it's true.
Of all the topics we have talked about this summer,
the one that kills the phone lines and kills the text machine the most is UK football.
I can talk about UK basketball.
I can talk about parking.
I can talk about cheeseburgers.
I can talk about the Reds.
I can talk about fly fishing.
And we will get triple the phone calls and triple the text mess.
and UK basketball, than UK football.
When I talk about UK football, it gets the least response.
Now, I feel some responsibility to still talk about it because this is a UK show and I want to whatever.
But that's just the reality.
There is less appetite for UK football than I can ever remember.
It reminds me of when I started doing this years, years and years ago when Joker was the coach.
And that was the last time, Ryan, it has been like this.
Now, starting Saturday, that will probably change, but it's just how it's been.
And it's with so many new faces, so many unknowns, they kept things so quiet over the, you know, the offseason.
They didn't expose a lot of their guys to us.
I mean, there's just a lot of things we don't know about this team yet.
Now, you come out, if we win by 30, Drew, it's a different conversation next week.
Yep.
Right?
But that's just how it is right now.
Yeah.
And besides us, I went to their spring game, which you can't even call a spring game.
I mean, there was no one there, and they didn't even tweet about it from their own social media account.
They didn't even want people to know the practice was happening back in the spring.
They did this.
I mean, they did this.
And maybe it'll be a good strategy.
Maybe we'll be halfway through the season.
We'll be five and two.
Fan base will be rolling and it'll be a good strategy.
But if it's not, they only have themselves to blame.
They did this.
You're right.
The spring game is a perfect example.
Fan day got almost no, like, you know, media, like it got almost no advertising leading into it.
I think it was the lowest attended fan day they've had.
They did this.
And so, you know, now you have a situation where we have a quarterback that we're playing
that could walk down the street and wouldn't be known.
That's just different.
It just is.
I had no idea what he even looked like until he sat down with this on Media Day.
They should have had him forefront ever since the spring.
The heath should have been the poster child.
Get out there and meet the fans.
But once the game starts, all of that matters significantly less.
and so we'll see.
Adam, go ahead, Adam.
Hey, Matt, first of all, to the text or caller who said that, you know,
it's your all's fault because you're not talking about,
what are you supposed to say besides, you know, pull out the Calgary line like I haven't seen them.
That's a great point.
I mean, there is a sense of when you don't know the players,
you haven't been told anything about them,
you haven't been allowed to watch them practice,
and you haven't seen them play.
What is there even to say?
They seem like nice people?
I mean, there's nothing to even say, really, in some ways.
Yeah, I've actually, this weekend, talked myself into,
I think Kentucky is going to win comfortably against Toledo.
And Drew hit on it.
I think Van Hals talked about it on Tom Leach's show that, yeah, UK, even though they were bad last year,
only won four games.
They beat the Mac champ 41 to 6.
And then that same team beat Toledo 24 to 7.
Like, I don't understand whether the Toledo hype's
coming from. That's interesting. That's a really, I hadn't thought about it like that,
but that is interesting. Appreciate it, Adam. Van Hiles, by the way, is the new, uh, co-hosts of the
KSR football podcast over the years that's been Jared Lorenzen, Freddie Maggard, Max Duffy,
uh, and a lot Charles Walker, a lot of folks. Uh, and then every time they have one,
he ends up, you know, going somewhere else or something happens. And now you have Van Hiles,
uh, who does for people who don't know, does extensive break.
of football on Twitter after games that people really like.
Yep, we're doing our first one after this show.
We're going to do a little later this afternoon.
Looking forward to talking to Van.
As you said, we've been doing it for years.
Started with me, Roush, Freddie, and Jared.
There's mostly Jared and Freddie just telling locker room stories.
Austin McGinnis did a couple years.
I mean, heck, it's 13.
I don't know how many years we've been doing it, but it feels like a long time.
And now we're excited for the new chapter of Van.
So we'll be promoting that this afternoon.
I have something I think you'll like, Shannon.
Did you see Tommy Fleetwood finally won in golf?
Watch the whole thing.
Do you know who Tommy Fleetwood is, Shannon?
He's a golfer.
Correct.
If he wasn't a golfer, he won, that would have even been more surprising.
You should have asked me that before you said he won in golf.
He won the Tour Championship.
He had like, had Ryan, 30 top fives leading up to this and had never won.
Never won a tournament?
30 top fives never won.
Think about that.
had multiple tournaments this year, like led the final day and then choked.
Wow.
So he wins.
So I watch him winning.
And I'm thinking, Shannon, that's very cool.
Like I'm pulling for this.
Sure.
Yeah.
So as I look at him, though, as he's walking up the thing, you know, I don't know a lot about him.
So as I'm looking at him, I walk up, and he's walking up the 18th.
I'm like, how old is he?
Because I thought he was pretty young, but he kind of looked old yesterday.
Like he just looked a little haggard.
Maybe it was just the pressure of everything.
Maybe he hadn't gotten sleep.
It's a little losing.
Yeah.
So I looked him up and he was 34 years old.
And I thought, well, he looks a little older than 34.
But okay, I can see it.
Then he wins.
He makes the putt.
He wins.
And this guy comes on the green and hugs him.
And I'm like, oh, that's probably his best buddy.
Because he looked to be the same age.
And then he goes, that's his stepson.
And I was like, hmm, his stepson looks as old as him.
Looks as old as him.
Okay, I see what you're going.
He was taller than him.
It looked like, I was like, that's odd.
Stepson looks old as him.
Then I looked it up.
Tommy's 34.
Wife, 57.
Uh-huh.
Now, let me be fair.
If that's flipped, nobody says a word.
Nobody says a word.
Nope, nope, right?
57 year old dude
34 year old woman
nobody would think one thing about it
well manor I think something but that wouldn't be
we probably wouldn't even be talking
correct but that is something you don't see a lot
flip that way
right right
I have to think though Shannon
they got to be like crazy in love right
he's a good looking dude
he looked a little haggard yesterday
but he's a good looking dude
57. So then of course I'm like, how did they meet? When did they whatever? Because he seems very close with the stepson.
They met when he was 26 and she was, I guess what? 49. 49. Wow. And that's when they fell in love.
How about that? The early bird special at the buffet or something. Have you, can you think of another famous couple?
with an age gap like that, but flipped,
where the woman is 23 years older than the guy.
Stifler's mom.
Well, I don't think they were married.
Oh, in the movie.
No, yeah, they weren't.
Yeah, you're right.
What is the difference between the President of France and his wife,
Macron and...
That's the first one that came to mind.
She's 72, and he is...
Well, give me a second.
She's 72.
So she's 72 and he's 47.
47.
So that's 25 years.
And she was his teacher, right?
I think that's the story.
I think she was his teacher.
But you don't see that a lot.
No, you don't.
And so it was really, it was really like when the stepson runs onto the thing, and I'm
thinking it's his brother or his best friend and it's his stepson.
And they were like, they clearly really like each other.
They probably, stepson's happy, got somebody to hang out with.
He's crying.
Yeah. So does that surprise you at all right?
It is kind of odd that our society. We do look at that totally different instead of it was flipped.
You know, I remember when, well, like, was it Scotty Pippin's ex-wife was dating somebody the same age as her son?
That's a good one. You know?
Scottie Pippen's ex-wife was dating Michael Jordan's son, right?
Michael Jordan's son. And everybody looks at it kind of odd, like she's robbing the cradle.
But why don't we think of the other way around, you know?
Well, I mean, we know why we don't. That's like sexism.
It is. It's not right.
But it was surprising to me, Shannon.
Do you know who Colista Flockhart is?
Is that Ali McBeal?
Married to Harrison Ford, and she is 22 years older than him.
That's not true.
That's what it says.
Harrison Ford's like in his 70s.
That would make her in her 90s.
Maybe she's 90.
Do you even know who Callista Flockhart is?
No.
She was Ali McBeal.
You think Allie McBeal's in her 90s?
I'm just talking about what Google says.
Google could be wrong.
See, this is the problem with Google AI.
It's just saying, like, now, fake things and people just take it as fact.
That's not true.
If you Google AI me, they have like six different people listed as my wife.
Really?
No, I'm not kidding.
If you put in Matt Jones, Kentucky wife, they'll have me be a name to people like Elaine.
Like people that are not even real people.
or people that I've just taken
pictures with. They'll say
they're my wife. You're on AI now. They
will. So, I mean, I believe you, that's
what it says, Shannon. But it's wrong then.
She's 60? I didn't even realize she was that old.
And what's Harrison's probably pushing 80?
Oh, yeah. He's got to be.
He's probably one who's 22 years old.
He's 83. Yeah. Yeah, so they just flipped
it. Yeah.
Damn, A.I.
Chad GPT, I asked for some Kentucky basketball
stat one time, and it said John Wall
won the 78 championship. I'm like, yeah, we got a little time
before we got a little time.
Well, that's the other problem with Google and
things now. AI comes up first. I hate it. And I didn't ask for that, but it's there.
I think there's now an opening for a search engine that doesn't give me AI answers.
Right, right. Because AI.
Bring them back. Wasn't that one of the original? I think there is because AI, at least the Google
AI, is not particularly good yet. No, you're right. So anyway, just in time for Labor Day,

week. It's KSR. Last night,
a blown call changed a game. This morning,
the internet lost its mind. Highlights
are trending, opinions are flying,
and nobody's telling you exactly what
happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in.
I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're
cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays,
the controversies, and the stories behind
the headlines. We go straight to the source,
the athlete themselves, their locker
room stories, their reactions, the stuff
nobody gets to hear. The laughs,
the drama, the triumphs, the moments
that never make the highlight real. From
viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down,
give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered.
SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, family?
This is Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night bases on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers
while he got the ball.
After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the,

Welcome back to Tucky Sports Radio.
All right.
Demi Moore and Ashton Coocher.
Yes.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.
But they're not still together, are they?
I don't think so.
Marty Stewart and his wife.
Oh, we talked about that on the show before.
Yeah, he said when he was a little kid, he listened to her set to play and said, I'm going to marry her mama.
And he did.
And then he did.
Connie Smith.
Connie Smith.
Yeah.
She's the one that sings the Cincinnati
So, okay.
Cincinnati, Ohio.
Yeah, I remember us talking about him.
And then I didn't realize this.
They say Randy Travis's wife is a lot older than him.
He's old.
Yeah.
See how old Randy Travis's wife is?
I didn't know or Randy Travis in his wife.
Well, he's 66.
So what is she?
I don't know.
Apparently Tommy Fleetwood's wife was his agent.
Okay.
And they have a child.
together. Oh, they do. Now, if they met when she was 49, that means she had a child a lot later
in life with him. Yeah. Right? You have the Randy Travis? I'm looking. I'm not finding her age.
Okay. Well, there you go. Apparently, one of the, Kim Kardashian's mom is dating a 27-year-old.
Who's that? Chris Jenner? She was dating like the, yeah, the trainer. He's a lot younger than her.
How do you know this? I used to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians regularly.
So you watch that show?
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Watch a lot of them.
I thought she's had a boyfriend for like 10 years that's older.
I think he's younger.
The black guy, he's a younger guy.
Okay, y'all stop arguing.
We try to keep up with the Kardashians.
I will say, I turned on, I wanted to watch something mindless, turned on the first
episode of Hunting Wives on Netflix.
I mean, you want to talk about a terrible show, but that I'm probably going to watch every
episode of.
Have you seen that?
It's funny.
Well, some of your transient friends were.
talking about that at the party Saturday night. This woman from Boston, like moves to Texas.
She meets all these like MAGA gun women. Then it turns out they're all a little risque
and then she gets caught up in it. I mean, it's terrible. But I can see myself watching all eight
episodes of it. I got home really late from Tahoe last night right away, Gilded Age. I'm in.
I'm all in. Can we talk about Gilda Day? I'm about halfway through
I said what? Can I say what I told you?
Yeah, if you want. Drew, there is no way. Matt Jones was sitting at home one night and decided I'm going to start watching Gilded Aid.
I did the same thing. I did the same thing. I just said I got home from Tahoe and immediately turned.
Well is her name that got you on watching Gilden Age? I like it. I genuinely like, I don't think it's a great show, but I think it's entertaining. I like it because it's so trivial and stupid. I have the huts for Burrush. I have the Hots for Burrush.
Russell. Agnes is mean but funny. I'm hoping Ada or Ava or whatever hooks up with the preacher.
Don't spoiler alert and tell me if she does. Okay. They got rid of Mr. Rakes, who was so boring.
Yes. Married him off. Yeah, got him away. I like what, you know, Gladys Russell's now out on the town.
Hopefully she finds a suitor. My favorite character is Oscar. Oscar. Oscar gets more involved as it goes on.
it's a good show.
There's no way you sit there.
They'll be like, there's Clara Barton.
There's Oscar Wilde.
Booker T. Washington.
There's Booker T. Washington.
That's exactly right.
There's no way you're sitting home.
I'm going to start watching this by myself.
What was her name?
What was her name?
There's no blushing.
I'm telling you, it was, I watch, I really like HBO Max.
Probably my favorite of the apps.
I turned it on.
I just kept seeing it.
Then I was like, all right, one episode.
I'm confused.
You seem to know a lot.
You've seen it all.
You seem to know more than me.
Matt got me.
Wait a minute.
That's a really good point.
You know, how do you know Booker Tee?
Well, that's halfway through season two.
That's where I am.
I'm right halfway through season two.
So that means you're watching.
You told us to, you hooked us, got us excited about it, told us to watch it.
But if you're all the way through season two, that means you clearly like it enough to keep watching.
Because yoga girl loves it.
It is a chick flick girl show.
He's halfway through season two and it's yoga girls' fault.
Absolutely.
It's good.
It's not your kind of show, though.
You don't know me.
You love Succession, Sopranos, that kind of stuff.
I have a sensitive side.
Oh, please.
He reads romance novels at Reds games.
What's your...
I just...
Mina Kahn said you have a sensitive side.
Jim, go ahead, Jim.
It's a good show.
Jim.
Yep.
Go ahead.
Yeah.
So, I'm the...
owner of chaotic good and I heard you guys talking about us a little while back.
I figured out calling and say hi.
I know what that means.
What's chaotic good?
That's that nerdy coffee shop.
You guys are talking about.
The nerdy, dorky people playing game store.
Yeah, yeah, I'm the owner over there.
I hope you know, I say that with love.
I feel like to me, I do.
I feels like to me, you have created like a community there of like dorky,
Dungeon and Dragons people that play their card games and they seem really happy.
And I guess I'm giving you a hard time, but I also think that's cool.
I mean that.
I'm not just, I hope you realize that.
No, yeah, no, of course.
I mean, yeah, we have a great people.
And I'm sorry, actually, Saturday might have been partially our fault, too, about your
parking situation.
We also threw a Renaissance fair that had like 5,000 people show up.
I saw them.
Yeah, my bad.
I saw all the people and all the gone.
stuff everywhere.
So if I came some time...
But hey, when you have live sword fighting, it's cool.
Yeah.
Well, that's that is kind of cool.
If I came there sometime, would you teach me how to play the dungeon and then the dragon?
I would absolutely teach you how to play dungeons and dragons.
I've been running the game for more than a decade and loves to teach you.
Okay.
All right.
Well, I'm not sure if I'll do it.
Also, I will say I think Kentucky has tennis or...
I think Kentucky has Toledo week one.
I don't think there's a question.
about it.
I don't know if there's any, yeah.
I don't know if I trust your opinion on that.
I'm just kidding with you.
I walk by that place almost every night on my walk,
and I do think it's very cool.
You guys really do have a community there,
and I think that's neat.
Thank you for calling in.
Yeah, thank you for having me.
Appreciate it.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
