Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. Starting point is 00:02:55 I am Matt Jones here at the KS Bar and Grill, where after all of these months, we are back, ready to rock. You can give us John Clark's Pump and Shop phone line 859-2-80-2287. A-Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-724. In this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, if you call T.J., he'll make them pay. KS. Bar and Grill is back open, and we'll be open all day today, starting at 11 o'clock for lunch. We have some folks who came a little early to watch the show, including some familiar faces, who were regulars to come watch us on a daily basis, which is nice. and Ryan Lemon, here we are back in a place we've now been doing this show really since COVID,
Starting point is 00:03:38 and it's nice to be back. It's super nice to be back. You know, kind of got excited about it with the parties we had last week, you know, kind of the dress rehearsals, your birthday party, hubby's birthday party, that sort of thing. But to come back here to do a show. That's not my birthday party, by the way. That's true. I mean, I just want you to not think you got away with being at my birthday.
Starting point is 00:03:58 That was not my birthday party. That was just, that was the friends and family opening dinner. That was not a birthday party. I felt like it was an early. We actually are supposed to do something for my birthday party, which this is the way Shannon, I think he's going to try to get out of it, is by saying he already came.
Starting point is 00:04:14 I did. I was here Saturday night for the big Matthew Harper Jones birthday party. That was not a birthday party. I felt like it was. Well, okay, but anyway. And we come back here today, and it feels like we haven't left. Yes. You are dressed up.
Starting point is 00:04:26 I am dressed up. Threw me off. Why are you dressed up? up. I am shooting a commercial for alarm.com. They're the parent company of Silent Guard. That's my system. My system that saved my house when it caught on fire.
Starting point is 00:04:41 So you're doing a national television commercial? Yeah. They wanted to fly me to Washington, D.C. to shoot it there. And I told him and said, look, I got too much stuff going on. We got KS. Bar opening in the game week. So they're flying. First of all, you don't have anything going on. I mean, you could have gone to do the commercial.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Yeah, you're lonely, remember? Yeah, I mean, you're literally. I literally have been complaining about being lonely all week. You just didn't want to go. I did not want to go. Okay. I got something going on like every day this week. Okay, so you're doing a commercial.
Starting point is 00:05:10 They're flying two guys in right now. Steven Spielberg? I think so, yes. And then I'm going to meet them at a studio here in town after the show to shoot this commercial. So you're going to be like a national endorser. It's like a testimonial type commercial. And it's a testimony for the fact that alarm.com like told you your house was on fire. which allowed you to save it.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Yeah, nobody was there when the alarm went off, and it sent the automatic signal to the fire department. The fire department got there before anybody else did. We didn't even know what was on fire. Yeah, I mean, he definitely owes him, but this seems like a big commitment you're doing here. I can't believe you're going to be on Nash. Do you think, like, is this like Sidney Sweeney with the jeans?
Starting point is 00:05:47 Is there going to be a protest or something happening with you? I actually, I took a shower. I shaved. I cleaned wax out of my ears. Okay, don't get it. No, no, no, no, it's plenty. I don't want you to have a chance to go down. of gross path we are opening a restaurant today so uh well good well congratulations on the thing
Starting point is 00:06:05 i asked him drew um you know i didn't need details but i was like are you being paid well for this and uh he told me he's doing it for free that's that's like ryan lemon's brand though if you need if you need a shout out on twitter that's not how it works though like you like you know you you can get paid for these things but i feel like they saved my house and they saved my dogs I kind of feel like I owe them a little bit, you know. Okay. And, you know, I was their endorser. They endorsed here.
Starting point is 00:06:33 KSR. They helped sponsor the jail that I had to spend a weekend here. That was Silent Guard. So I felt like I kind of owe them back a little something. Okay. Are you going to end up being these late-night infomercials that run just over and over? He's going like the guy who used to do all the push-ups. Yeah, well, good.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Well, I'm glad you're doing that. I could tell you were doing something important because you were wearing your one polo shirt that you wear when you want to be fancy. No logo. No logos on it. You're one pair of pants that you have, so it's nice to, nice to have. We are back here at KSpar, where we are back open after a long period of time being off. Well, we will be open at 11 o'clock. Love to have you come by for lunch today, but it's nice to be back.
Starting point is 00:07:19 You know, we decided for a few months in the summer to kind of reset. If you look around, just a quick explanation, we changed the tabletops in here. You might see that they're shiny and new. We redid the floors. So as you can see, the floors are brand new, including having some new blue paint. You changed a lot of these pictures in here. A lot more pictures and a lot different jerseys, etc. You guys spent a lot of time on this.
Starting point is 00:07:49 Looks looks really good. Changed the place behind us. We switched a ton of the televisions. around and then most importantly I think we very much improved our menu I think the wings and the logs cheese logs are the same a couple of
Starting point is 00:08:04 things are same but most stuff is new including we're doing smash burgers from Noche Linda which are really good it's a lot of new appetizers potato wedges which I think I'm going to eat those probably more than I should because they're actually really really good so anyway
Starting point is 00:08:22 you will see when you come a the uh i guess you would say k s bar drew 2.0 yeah i mean i'm just excited to be here in here at all but i'm probably going to eat lunch here and i know i'm going to eat dinner here so i'm looking forward eating the new stuff those mashed potato barrel kegs whatever we're it's called tater kegs my goodness that'll that will be part of both they're i'm telling you all in the tater kegs like they're really really good and like you'll sit there and you'll go this can't be good for me and it probably isn't i don't know what all's in it but it can't be Good because it's really, that was one when we went to the test kitchen.
Starting point is 00:08:58 I was like, all right, we have to do that. I haven't told my body that we're done with vacation yet, so I got one more day to really push it to the limit. So I'll be eating all of it. All the appetizers are really, really good. But those tater kegs, that's one everybody's going to be talking about. We first opened them. We were talking about our cheese logs. Now it's the tater kegs.
Starting point is 00:09:13 We got them both now. So we're opening, we got all week in here, and then we will next week be having a lot of specials and stuff throughout the week. and then, of course, game day is Saturday. We'll have breakfast. But anyway, we are here. We'll be here today, Wednesday and Thursday. And I'll also note, today and tomorrow, the moment this show ends, I have ESPN from 12 to 3. So I'm going to be sitting at this stage for five straight hours.
Starting point is 00:09:39 So if you want to come by today from 12 to 3 during the commercial breaks, I'd be glad to say hi to you because I'm hosting, what is it? What's on from 12 to 3? Joe and Q. This is like the last week. Rich Eisen comes next week. So I'm kind of keeping the seat. warm for Rich Eisen to come in here next week, Drew. Sounds like a big responsibility you have today.
Starting point is 00:09:59 I'll share some of my food with you while I'm here for lunch. A little nervous, though, because I'm driving the show, have no idea what it's about. They're going to send me at like 1130 to thing. I've done no, like, three hours on national radio in the middle of the day on ESPN radio. I'm driving today with Myron, and I have no idea what the show's about. Well, you're an NFL pro. I'd say it's mostly going to be cuts, roster moves. Those are all going down this morning yesterday.
Starting point is 00:10:24 All right. So, yeah, that's Trey Hendrickson has just agreed to a new contract. There you go. Lead story. All right. I guess those are the things that we're going to do. Some positive news on the My Street, and I'm ready to have people thrown in prison. Oh, what happened?
Starting point is 00:10:40 Somebody last night came and put cardboard signs outside my yard that said no parking. I don't know who did that. But they're an angel. But thank you. Yes. Because they're actually, it's an actual, like, sign, but they attached, like, just cardboard, like, from a cardboard box on it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Better nothing. But you know what? I think it works because I got up this morning. There were no cars. So, you know what? Whoever did that, thank you. I appreciate it because I guess they knew, Drew, that I would not be able to do that. That or they're holding that spot for when they go to the next.
Starting point is 00:11:22 It's big of it, and they're just going to pick their sign up and pull it. They're holding it for themselves. I'm going to guess it's a listener who has narrowed down where you live and they were just helping you out. Very kind. Very kind of. You've got to think maybe one of your neighbors, like as frustrated as you are, decided we're going to do something about it. Could be. Could be because they are in a couple of other yards.
Starting point is 00:11:38 So it could be a neighbor who decided to. So those signs will work pretty well until it rains or storms and then. I hadn't thought about that. Did you know that yesterday was the coldest August 25th? in Lexington history got down to 48 degrees. After we had a pretty hot summer, 48 degrees last night in August. And then according to Chris Bailey, that's the first time it's been in the 40s in August since like the 50s. After all that heat we had last month, I'm ready for it.
Starting point is 00:12:12 I'm glad it's showing up a little early. With football here, I'm ready to jump into hoodie season. I never stop. I never stop. I never stop. I'm glad it's starting to drop just in time. It felt like football season last night, didn't it? Walking outside.
Starting point is 00:12:24 It did. It did a little bit. All right. So the depth chart came out yesterday, and I thought it would be nice as part of the preview. We've talked all year about how we don't know who these people are. How about we say their names, right? Like, how about we learn their names? How about Mario, you don't take one of the people that's here and stand directly in front of them so that they cannot see?
Starting point is 00:12:50 All right. He literally Mario had butt to face right there right next to his face on a Tuesday morning. Okay, here we go. You ready? Ready. Introduces to these people. All right. Here is your starting line.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Starting offensive line. Shiaj Pete. We all know who that is. That's going to be the left tackle. Yes. Left guard, Joshua Braun. That's a name some of you may not have heard. Let me tell you what schools he's gone to.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Okay. Arkansas, Florida. and Shawnee. Shawnee. This kid started at Shawnee and is now at his third SEC school so far, Drew. And one of the only players
Starting point is 00:13:29 to have been getting much preseason recognition, you get guys on those watch lists, but they had 75 players, but he was one that got a little all-SACC love. Center is Jagger Burton. How do you think he's going to do it, Center? I think he's going to be an NFL Center
Starting point is 00:13:42 at some point in his career, so I think this is just the start of a big season for Jagger. You think he's going to be an NFL center? Yep. I think he is. If Ryan Lemon knew you when you were a kid, you're going to get
Starting point is 00:13:50 That's just how it is. Right guard Jalen Farmer. He's the only other returner that we all kind of knew his name from last year on the line. That's exactly right. Our right tackle, Alex Wollschlager, which, by the way, we serve here. We serve a good Walshlogger. You've got to be ready to take a shot. Yeah, I think that's Goldslager.
Starting point is 00:14:10 No relation. We'll call him Wally, big guy. At the tackle spots, there's some freshmen behind him, so we're going to need him to stay healthy and have a good year. He comes from Bowling Green Stats. I thought it was just Bowling Green. Is it Bowling Green State? It is Bowling State.
Starting point is 00:14:26 I guess it is. I didn't know that either. I thought it was just bowling. Did they always call it Bowling Green State? I don't really hear anyone use it when you're saying it. Yeah, I always feel like they say, okay, wide receiver at the X. I didn't know. I knew there was an X and a Z.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I didn't learn until this chart that there's an F. Did you know there was an F? Slot guy. Why don't they just say slot? I've heard that. I didn't know there was an F. X, Hardly Gilmore, came from Nebraska at one point. or J.J. Hester, who came from Oklahoma and Missouri, another player drew with his third SEC school.
Starting point is 00:14:58 Yeah, and these are kind of just alphabetical and oars. They oared the whole wide receiver room. So we didn't really get, we have an idea, Kendrick Law, Macklin are going to be in the mix, but Stoops is really going to give the whole room an opportunity. You mentioned Kendrick Law. He's the wide receiver in the slot. He went to Alabama, and then Jemori Macklin. Of course, we know him. Tide in, Josh Caddus. He's a returner. Superstar. Yes. Another tied-in, the F, Willie Rodriguez, Kentucky, and everybody knows him as well.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Quarterback, Zach Calzada is the quarterback. He has been to, incarnate word, Auburn, Texas A&M, another kid at his third SEC school at the quarterback. And then running back, they did another, or Drew Dante Dow from Nebraska or Seth McGowan from New Mexico State. I'm excited about these two. Dowell, a little more power. going to punch in those goline runs but we couldn't get in the end zone last year. McGowan more like a pro type back. He's got a very unique path in getting here, but I'm excited to watch him.
Starting point is 00:15:56 It's crazy you got Wilcox's your leading rusher a year ago and now he's down to fourth. So that room is really improved. Ryan, do you know who our kicker is? I do not know who our kicker is. Drew does. Drew, do you know what state our kicker is from? I'm going to say it's somewhere way out there.
Starting point is 00:16:13 It's like Montana, I believe. It is Montana. We have a Montana kicker, Jacob Cowie? I think I actually not great. He's apparently can kick it 60 yards over a mountain. And he's from Montana, and this will be his first year kicking.
Starting point is 00:16:29 He is our kicker. Of course, our punter is from snout, South Africa. The one story is that they're not going to have Jamori Macklin returning punts now. Ryan, they're going to have Ty Bright, your guy from Frederick Douglas. Ty Bryant returned a lot of kicks in Frederick Douglass, ran a lot back for touchdowns. I thought they may give Montavian Quisand-Barre a shot at doing that too maybe this season.
Starting point is 00:16:49 A kid from Boyle County. Is that an offense that you think can put up points? I think it's an offense that can put up points. Did you hear that big, deep breath? I don't think it's an offense. That was a big deep breath. That worries me a little bit. So I think it can put up points.
Starting point is 00:17:04 I don't think they can put up a lot of points. I think we're going to have to win our games like 21 to 20, 14 to 13. So you don't think this is going to be an exciting offense. I don't think it's going to be a big explosive lighten up the scoreboard offense. Stoops is going back to as always You're going to run the damn ball So that offensive line has to be good And I think they have to stay healthy
Starting point is 00:17:23 The two deep, there are a lot of freshmen in there They've got some guys that still have to bulk up On the coming off the bench So if the main five can play well And stay healthy I think they'll be able to run And set up Calzada to take a few shots What sticks out to me big picture Is there is
Starting point is 00:17:39 There is some return Are some returning players Specifically the tight end Two offensive linemen but this is a new offense. This is a completely new group, probably, of the guys that are going to start on this week compared to starting on week one last year, you're looking at like one guy. Like Josh Caddison, two, Jagger Burton.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Everybody else, Ryan, it's a new group. We'll see what happens. That's why somebody got on us yesterday about we don't know the names or how they're going to do because they're brought new faces. It's a whole new offense, a whole new look, whole new position these guys are playing. Completely new. see how it works out. We will do the defense and other stuff going into it, including, you know, sometimes when Ryan Lemon makes his mayoral decisions, they do not, they're not always popular.
Starting point is 00:18:29 I'm going to get him to make his gubernatorial decision. All right. This is an issue I think could go either way. What would Ryan Lemon do? We'll take a break. Be right back. It's KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From
Starting point is 00:19:08 viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Sports Slice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 and the TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:19:31 What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker. Hey, you know these kids.
Starting point is 00:19:43 This linebacker. walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Listen to the Cliverts show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam, Ms. Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading and. to the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:20:26 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night
Starting point is 00:20:47 tonight bases on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah,
Starting point is 00:21:03 you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love, or relationships can then shape my behavior, and that can lead me to sabotage the possibility of connection.
Starting point is 00:21:25 This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast Deeply Well with Debbie Brown and explore the journey of healing, self-discovery, and returning to yourself. We explore higher consciousness, emotional well-being, and the practices that help you find clarity, peace, and self-mastery in a world that can feel overwhelming. The world is becoming.
Starting point is 00:21:47 lonelier. We're not becoming more social and connected. We're becoming more individualized, but we actually need people in connection. If you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole, this podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Tegie Sports Radio. 8592-80-228.000. Text Machine, 772, 774, 745254. Let me quickly go through the other starters. McQueen's Humphrey Grace from, he comes from South Dakota and Princeton.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Feels like a pretty big jump. I'm telling you it's the first time I've heard that dude's name. Well, he's your starting defensive end. It's probably one of the best players. He might literally be one of the highest talented players we have. I'm hearing his name for the first time. Well, hopefully you hear him more. David Guista.
Starting point is 00:22:45 He's supposed to be really good, Drew, from Washington State. I think he'll be the best on defense. You think he's going to be our best defensive player? I think the defensive line is a big strength. All right. And then Khalil Saunders has been on the team. We know him. Outside linebacker, Sam Green, from Southern Cow.
Starting point is 00:23:00 DeVern Rainer. He's from Northern Illinois. He played a lot with the TikTok. He played a lot last year. Oh, that's the guy that's mad at us. That's the guy that jumped. He jumped, yep. Okay.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Got him. He's going to do great. He's good. He's really good. He's really good. Alex Safari, we know. Quayshed Scott. I'm hearing that name for the first time.
Starting point is 00:23:22 He's our nickel. He's been here before. Don't know him. He's going to have to make a big jump. DJ Waller, he was here last year, came from Michigan, right? J.Q. J. Q. Hardaway was here last year. Ty Bryant was here last year.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Jordan Lovett was here last year. So the secondary are all guys that have been here. The back five are all guys that we know. Secondary and defensive line shouldn't be too concerned. Actually, not a huge amount of changes on defense. in the starting. The linebackers are all pretty much new. Even Afari came here as a defensive back.
Starting point is 00:23:54 He's been on the team for five years, but he's moved up, taking on a bigger role. If the linebackers play well, I think Kentucky will get back to having a good defense. Mark Stoops was asked, what do you think about there being nine SEC games? And he said, you know, I made my opinion clear on that in the past,
Starting point is 00:24:10 but now that it's coming, bring it on. I like that attitude, to be honest with you, Ryan, like, I mean, what are you going to do about it at this point? You got to, it's happening. so we might as well make it work. I remember he came on this show after the COVID year. They had to play 10 SEC games. And he said there was no way he would ever be in favor of expanding it more than eight games.
Starting point is 00:24:27 But now he's like, you know, it is what it is. We have to, we can't hide from it. You got to go out and play the games. So with all that said, gave you the roster, gave you the teams, et cetera. Is that a better football team than last year? Yes or not? Oh, I don't think it's going to be even close. I've thought that since December they'll be better than last year.
Starting point is 00:24:46 How good will it be? Still a little uncertain, but I mentioned Wilcox going from your top rusher to probably not playing much. I mean, you've added so many pieces that have improved. I mean, I think we can all expect whatever Calzada is. Surely he won't quit football and go back to hunting because it was so bad. They've improved a lot across the board, I feel like. I mean, honestly, nothing is true. I mean, I don't think it gets taught.
Starting point is 00:25:10 To me, the most legendary UK football quarterback story is that we had a quarterback skip the final game to take the LSAT. I mean, I think that's like, we'll never top that. We had a UK football player, skip the final game to take the LSAT. This one, though, of him quitting football to go hunting is second to that. It's not really his fault. The line was awful. It can't be that bad. But, I mean, that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:25:37 I'm not blaming him. I'm just saying if your experience was so bad, you decided I don't even want to play this game anymore. I want to go a turkey hunt. That's not a great sign for how things went, right? So we can expect Calzada to be. If he's not better, my goodness, burn it down. Yeah, the quarterback play, I think, will be better. The offensive line play will be better.
Starting point is 00:25:58 I think our running game will be better. All right, so that's my football thing. Let's talk about basketball. Did you see what Todd Golden said yesterday about Day about Denzel Aberdeen, the U.K. player? I saw this. So Denzel Aberdeen, of course, came from Florida. Todd Golden went on John Rothstein's podcast said,
Starting point is 00:26:18 I love Denzel Aberdeen. He's great. But ultimately, I guess he had to make a financial decision to go to Kentucky, and he says, we're not too happy about it. I'm sure our fans are looking forward to when he comes back here to the O-Dome. Kind of a little trash talking from a coach. In a way you don't often see coaches react to players that, that leave, what'd you make of that? I can see why he's butt hurt.
Starting point is 00:26:48 You know, they just won a national title. But exactly, why is he butt hurt? This kid helped win him in a national title. And I think he thought he was going to be the main cog of rebuilding the next year's team. And I think, you know, assumed he would be back and build around him. But did, let me ask you all something. Does anybody remember, did Todd Golden leave San Francisco for Florida? Does anybody remember that?
Starting point is 00:27:10 I do. Did Todd Golden leave San Francisco for Florida? for more money. I believe he did. Did Todd Golden act like it was completely normal for him to go somewhere else for more money? So maybe a financial decision? So that was a financial decision. So why does he think that it's somehow a reason to be angry that Denzel Aberdeen might have done the same thing?
Starting point is 00:27:37 I think we just need to get used to this where coaches, I'm sure he wanted to keep Aberdeen, Sixthamander National Championship team, but he's making a point. to really let people know that Kentucky overpaid. He's trying to say, we had a number. We thought it was good, but, oh, he had to go to Kentucky because it was just this outrageous number that we weren't going to matter. Yeah, you know what? That's life.
Starting point is 00:27:55 But I think we're going to be hearing this a lot. In recruiting, they're going to make an excuse for why a player that is beloved went to another school, and they're just going to say it overpaid. It annoys me so much that these coaches act like they own these players. It annoys me to know in because they never hold themselves to the same standard. Todd, listen, if Kentucky were to offer Todd Golden $4 million more of the year than Florida, if Florida were to say no, what would Todd Golden do?
Starting point is 00:28:25 He'd leave. He would come to Kentucky. He would. So he decided not to give as much as Kentucky. That's your choice. Maybe it was the right choice. I don't know. But how could you act like Denzel Aberdeen shouldn't have done it?
Starting point is 00:28:42 Yeah. And we had the money. We'll take them. Sorry, you're broke. Apparently. Sorry, you don't have the money, Tom. We'll overpay. Just so many.
Starting point is 00:28:48 We'll spend it. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:29:02 859-287 here at the opening of KS Bar. We will open here at about 30 minutes. Got some folks here from Lancaster. We got Mount Vernon. We got some. faces we are used to from the days in the past, and we're going to open here in a bit. Mario is, uh, Mario's going to be here taking pictures. Got a new haircut.
Starting point is 00:29:21 You see that? Dude, Mario gets his hair done more than anybody I've ever seen. Like, once a week. I'm like, can you meet Mario? Get my hair done. Like he's, but it looks good. I like it. How long does it take?
Starting point is 00:29:32 Hour and a half. Yeah. Does that yours take that long? It takes like 30 seconds. I did wash my hair. Try to style it for the big commercial shoot today. Speaking of hair, did you see? see the big tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, I don't know why I did this, like this is how you're
Starting point is 00:29:48 going to serve. He debuted at the U.S. Open. He's the number one player in the world, shaved his head completely. Shaved his head like Ed Norton in American History X. He had great hair, too, and women are very upset. Women are like, what are you doing? You had great hair. Why did you shave your head?
Starting point is 00:30:06 And he said afterwards that it just made it to where he felt like it was easier for him to move across the court, which I don't totally. understand. I don't feel like hair really hurt you in the game of tennis, but what did you think about it? I think he copied off a Kentucky offensive lineman because Josh Braun, who we mentioned, recently buzzed his head and says he doesn't want to have to deal with his hair during the football season. So maybe it's just a thing. You're so committed to your craft that you don't want to have to get up and be like Ryan and put product in it every morning. But I feel like when you have great hair, you're being rude to those of us that don't. Amen. By not having it. Yes. Like if you're
Starting point is 00:30:41 Carlos Alcaraz, like, you've been blessed with the genetics of great hair. Don't spit in the face, Ryan, of people who never had great hair by not embracing it, right? That's how I kind of feel about it, you know? Those of us that aren't blessed with great hair, we're going bald. You've got hair. We'll trade you in a second if we could, man. Show off that hair. Live it up.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I don't. Like, Mark Pope. Like, Mark Pope has hair. Yeah. But he chooses voluntarily to buzz his hair. I don't, are there many people that do that? Buzz Williams claims he does. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:21 No, he does. He says he does. He says the same thing as Pope. Buzz Williams claims he has hair? It's almost like the exact same excuse, same excuse as Pope. Well, he has hair now because he got a transplant. Yeah, he says it was for years like Pope. I got a bunch of girls and a wife and I would just shave my head and one less thing to deal with.
Starting point is 00:31:37 So he's claiming that's not a transplant? Yep. I believe Pope. You can see Pope's hair. No, no, I think Pope has hair. Buzz, that's what he's going with. So you're telling me Buzz Williams is saying that's not a transplant. I think it was part of my take years ago.
Starting point is 00:31:50 He did. Just to save money and time, just shaved his head. Shannon, you believe that? I mean, why would you get a hair transplant then shave your head? What would be the point in that? So I do believe it. He's not claiming the transplant. He's just saying that's why it's hip.
Starting point is 00:32:03 No, I'm saying to you, I thought what he had this year was a transplant, but you're saying it's not. He's saying it's his natural hair. He's just not cutting it as thin anymore. He said to save money when they had another daughter. I don't know that I believe that. All right, I want you all to be my counsel and give me your opinion on this. This is happening right now.
Starting point is 00:32:26 Okay. If you were in charge of the state, what would you do? 1462 Kentuckians due to a mistake by the state were accidentally sent. is it EBT? Is that what it's called? EBT claims. So they were sent basically stuff for food, right, that you send
Starting point is 00:32:48 to people who are struggling. 462 families were sent it for children that didn't qualify. They just accidentally sent it to the wrong people. The people got them and were able to
Starting point is 00:33:04 spend them. I think they said there were a few hundred that had spent it some that didn't. The state is now going back to them and saying you have to pay that money back and if you don't pay the money back, we will tax it to you as income and you have to pay it all back. I think it's even like a fine if you don't pay it back. Some of these people are saying like I thought maybe we just got, I mean when the state's in it, I thought we were good. I got approved. I've spent it and I don't. don't have the money to pay it back.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Because some of these, most of these people were not rich. These were people who were right, I think what it was is, let's say the line was $25,000. They gave it for people who were up to like $35,000. They just made the wrong line. It was in four counties, one of which is Scott County.
Starting point is 00:33:56 It was, the state acknowledges it was its mistake, but as of now the state is saying you have to pay this money back. Do you think if the state sends you money and they're wrong, and you've had time to spend it. You didn't file anything illegally
Starting point is 00:34:13 that it was the state's mistake. Do you think you should have to pay it back? I'll go first. I'm going to say no. States should stand up. We made a mistake, but Lady Luck is shining on you guys right now. Welcome.
Starting point is 00:34:26 A gift from the state of Kentucky will correct it and it won't happen again. I think they just got to eat it. I think you've got to eat it too. You're probably dealing with a lot of lower income people and you're just going to put them in a much worse spot than they were in when they applied to get it. Well, they didn't apply. Like these are people who were just sent the money.
Starting point is 00:34:43 If they accidentally wired you $50,000 in cash, okay, you shouldn't spend it. You should know that's not correct. But EBT to get food, even if you weren't supposed to get it, I don't think they can then take that back from you over their era. They just need to say, Arbad, you got away with this one. Shannon, what about you? The state should own it. They made the mistake. And I mean, what are those people supposed to think?
Starting point is 00:35:02 now anytime they get sent money, we should wait maybe a year before we spend it. They'll never trust any of the money they get for it to come right back, you know. Well, okay, so let me, what about this? And this isn't, I don't think, true with these people. But what if you could show that the people knew they weren't supposed to get it? And we're like, well, I must have gotten lucky, okay. Let's say they knew they weren't supposed to get it. So let's say you know what you get every month for my heart.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Okay. Let's say next month you get $2,000 more dollars. This happened to me, by the way. You know this. It's happened to me, too. You know this happened to me. Wait, but this happened to all of you? I owe a significant amount of money back to the company.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Oh, you owe money, Shannon? Yes. You owe money? I have to pay it back by the end of the year. They gave me some of Drew's paycheck one time, but I didn't have to pay that back. Oh, you didn't have to pay it back. I did Ryan buy money and told me to deal with it. They're making me pay it back.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Oh, wait, so they're not making you pay it back. This could be a whole meeting. Yeah, we should have had months ago. Yeah, well, maybe we shouldn't air this out here on the air. But, okay, so, Shannon, when you heard you had to pay it back, do you think you should have to pay it back? No, they made the mistake. I'll tell you what. They shouldn't, they'll never make that mistake again if I didn't have to pay them back.
Starting point is 00:36:25 You know, see, I, I mean, what are you going to do about it? So we did this. This happened with KSR. with someone where they stopped working for us. Oh, yeah. And the system kept paying them. And that person knew that they were not working for us anymore and was just taking the money. And that really frustrated me.
Starting point is 00:36:49 So for me, it's weird. It's almost like the knowledge makes a difference for me. But for these people, I think it's different when it's the state. You have to assume the state's not going to screw up. If you get money from the state, you have to assume the state. you have to assume the state knows what it's doing, right? Wouldn't you think? I don't think that a lot of these people, like you said,
Starting point is 00:37:06 maybe we're on the borderline of receiving some kind of funds anyway. So maybe they thought the state is finally going to, you know, we didn't get the big COVID return or the tax return or whatever, but their state's going to kind of reward us with this. You certainly wouldn't think the state would give you money, and it wasn't correct. Yeah. And this is EBT for groceries, not like here's a big large sum of cash.
Starting point is 00:37:27 That's a big difference for me. That's true. It's for groceries. There's limitations. It wasn't used to, like, go to the... Get a car. Yeah, yeah. Well, I didn't realize I'd touched a nerve.
Starting point is 00:37:37 The three of you, Shannon. I didn't know. That's happened with all three of you. Well, I didn't even know what. Drew told me. He said, hey, I think they gave you some of my paycheck. Like, I had no idea until you even told me. I can do a whole lot on this.
Starting point is 00:37:52 Yeah. Let's continue. Next segment. Let's continue. I got a lot of things to say. Let me tell you. I can hear it Shannon's voice. when there's something that like...
Starting point is 00:38:02 I don't even know how that happens. Touches him a certain way? Like, how does that even happen? I think you're... Well, I can tell you how it can happen. I mean, when we ended up paying... When we ended up paying someone who, you know, you don't necessarily see it minute to minute. It's just all of a sudden, because you...
Starting point is 00:38:20 Like, when we were paying someone who didn't work for us anymore, we were used to seeing the monthly thing, and then all of a sudden we were like, why is this going up? and we didn't know until we'd hired someone else and was like, why are these expenses so much and then we realized it? Yeah. So I don't know. I mean, but I can also see why if you were like,
Starting point is 00:38:41 I thought I got this. I don't have the money to pay it back right this minute, you know? Yeah, you've already spent it. Yeah, you've already spent it, Shannon, I understand that. I'm sitting there saying, where's the money at? I'm sitting there in Georgetown. I get this DBT car. Like, I can feed my kids this week.
Starting point is 00:38:55 You're excited about it. Yeah. Well, right now the state is saying to pay it back, Although I do wonder if that will change in the coming big. Does your car smell like French fries and scream every time it starts? That's quite a way to start this read here. I can't say that it does. Are they trying to sell me a car that smells like French fries?
Starting point is 00:39:17 No. They're saying maybe it's time to get a nude car. Oh, okay. From Don Franklin's family of dealerships. Shop from the cool comfort of your Don Franklin.com. You'll find a ride so nice, your neighbor will be jealous. No matter your situation, Don Franklin can help you. Over 6,000 vehicles, 27 dealerships all across the state.

I'll put up with a lot of stuff, but you don't mess with my money.
Starting point is 00:40:01 Everybody's got their thing, right? Everybody's got their thing. Like, I don't want to be lied to, right? I don't like to. Ryan, well, but everybody has their thing that really gets a minor. Like, for me, it's lying. For you, it's like betrayal, right, right? That's the thing for you.
Starting point is 00:40:17 I don't know exactly what it is for you, Drew. I don't get angry. I genuinely don't. But for Shannon, it's money. The thing for Shannon is and has always been money. We'll take a break right back. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
Starting point is 00:40:31 This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. Starting point is 00:41:27 being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:41:47 Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what.
Starting point is 00:42:11 He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:42:38 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court licking his fingers while he got the ball. After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I've told myself about love or relationships can then shape my behavior,

Starting point is 00:43:53 Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the IHeart Radio, app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Well, the text machine shows this is an issue that's happened to a lot of people. Apparently it's, okay, so let me be clear on two things I got wrong there just for factual accuracy. It's not the state. It is state money, but distributed by the, it's the counties that made the mistake. Am I right about that?
Starting point is 00:44:20 It's a school districts. It's a school districts that make the mistake. It's state money, but it's a school district. And it was people who are already qualified for EBT. got more money than they would have thought. So it wasn't that people who did, so these are people who all are already on benefits. So they need it. So they just got more than they normally would have got.
Starting point is 00:44:42 It's just like a Christmas bonus you get sometime. They just got a little bonus. But apparently it's not. There's somebody here who said that this has happened to them, and the state does make you take it. But they make you pay it back? Yes. That was the story.
Starting point is 00:44:55 I just did it in the last segment. They make you pay it back. I don't think that's right. The problem is you spend it and you don't have money to pay back. Yeah, you don't think it's right. Like it shouldn't happen or it doesn't happen? I don't think it's right. They make these people pay it back.
Starting point is 00:45:08 Well, yeah, we agree on that. All right, 859-28027. Who's up first? Let's go to Chris. Chris. Go ahead, Chris. Hey, I just wanted to start off by saying I'm making a 12-hour trip to up there for the first game. Very excited.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Best thing about the beginning of the season is everybody's it's the same. That's true. I hope you'll come see us on your 12-hour trip, by the way. I've already, I've already made plans. I'll be there 9 o'clock in the morning. It'll be all right, good. But to your topic there, I actually just, I won't say which large home improvement store, but I just made some home improvements and I went to return some material, and instead of crediting me back eight pieces of tile, I didn't find out till three weeks later they credited me back 18 cases of file okay so when you got that credit though did you know it was more money than you were supposed to get oh absolutely it was it was
Starting point is 00:46:11 uh i mean the difference from 80 dollars to uh 2 30000 so what did you do i didn't realize well i didn't here's my here's where i was torn had i known right away I would have immediately probably returned it. Okay. But I didn't find out until three weeks later when I looked at my receipt on my, I'll say, on my Lowe's gift card. And at that point in time,
Starting point is 00:46:40 I literally just gave it back to them. Well, I gave it back to them in the sense that I bought new doors for my house. Yeah, I mean, and I appreciate the call. In that situation, I'd even be more mad at him. Adam like I just gave you the money. I think this kind of thing happens a lot. I'm generally of the view that the person that makes the mistake has to eat it
Starting point is 00:47:02 unless the entity that knows knows and then it's just like, yay. But how do you prove that? I don't even know if there is a way to prove that, to be honest with you? How do you prove what people know? It's very difficult. I had this happen earlier this year where I got some money put in my account and it was very obvious. It wasn't supposed to be mine.
Starting point is 00:47:20 And I thought a minute for a second. I thought the hassle of this will be when it is found is more than I want to deal with. So within an hour, it was like, hey, can we settle this ASAP? But it was like an obvious. Yeah. I knew it wasn't supposed to be mine. It was clear. Well, interesting stuff.
Starting point is 00:47:35 859-2802287. Did you like the pictures, Ryan, of the basketball team bonding by ziplining and all the various things they did? They went ziplining. They went repelling. They did basically all the things I'm going to do in South Africa. And then there's that picture of Mark Pope with his feet up in the air going down the mountain. I love it. I mean, you may not think stuff like that matters.
Starting point is 00:48:00 It matters when you got a group of – these are kids. These are 18, 19, 20-year-old kids. And to get them to go to Natural Bridge and Laurel Lake and ziplining and do that kind of stuff. I mean, I think it was awesome, a great time of year to do it. So why not do something like that as a bonding experience? Are you worried they played pickleball, though? Well, that was going to be part two. You know, I want this team to be really, really successful.
Starting point is 00:48:23 And picking up the pickleball rackets, it makes me a little bit nervous. Because, I mean, there is no – I mean, do you think that – you think Kobe Bryant played pickleball? Probably. You do? I don't think it was invented yet, but maybe – he would now. He'd own the league. Yeah, I don't know. I didn't like the pickleball.
Starting point is 00:48:42 But you know what? I do like all things bonding, but I didn't like that. It was interesting seeing a seven-footer just riding a jet ski around Cumberland or wherever they were. The Hall of Chandler looks like he's done some laking before. Yeah, they did. I mean, they went. So the basketball team, they went to Natural Bridge. They went to Lake Cumberland.
Starting point is 00:48:59 They went to the gorge. I mean, he basically, Mark Pope took them around the sort of, you know, the highlights of Kentucky. Get to see the beautiful parts of our state? Yeah, teaching them about Kentucky. I like that Mark Pope does that. I do like that Mark Pope seems to work. want to show the guys the state. I think there's value in that
Starting point is 00:49:19 so that they know what they're representing. I get that they're getting money and I get all that, but there is value in knowing what they're a part of, etc. Yeah, you know, unfortunately they've had to go out in the state for fundraising for issues we had, but it's also good for them
Starting point is 00:49:35 to just go out for whether it's at a boat and meeting the people that around or assume at grand openings of things. It's just good for them to know the fan base they're representing. There's a great story, which I encourage everybody to read about the revitalization of horse cave Kentucky. I guess horse cave has caves. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:54 Not surprisingly. And starting in like the 50s, they had started to let sewage get it down in there and waste from industry. And their caves smelled apparently just hideous. You couldn't even walk by the cave without the smell just knocking you down. and I guess they started some project in like the 80s to try to clean it up. And now this town of 3,000 people gets like 150,000 people a year in their caves. It's revitalized the town. Excuse me, the town has like 3,000 people,
Starting point is 00:50:31 has getting all these people. And it's all because they got rid of the stink in horse cave. The New York Times did a long feature about the removal of the horse cave stink. I read the first three paragraphs and saw the photo. I was still to ask for my password, but I was really into it. It's fascinating. The images look cool. It looks like it's going to be a nice destination.
Starting point is 00:50:49 It looks awesome. It looks awesome. And it's easily accessible. Like, apparently, you know, it's easy to get in and then get out of. People are coming from all over. But I didn't realize, did you know that that was there? I guess you assume with Cave in the name it was. Yeah, we have a listener, and he'll probably text me today.
Starting point is 00:51:09 He's offered to give us a tour of the new Horse Cave Cave now that they do. They said that part of the reason the downtown business is closed is that the cave stunk so bad that you couldn't even walk down the street without being knocked down by the smell of cave stink. And now all that stink is gone. I'd want to buy a stock and horse cave. I feel like it's on the way up now if they got rid of the smell. It feels like an oasis in that cave. Seems like it. 859-280-2287.
