T.J. I'll make them pay. Guys, it's a beautiful day. I mean, weather that is not late August weather.
Starting point is 00:03:40 We got into the 40s last night. I saw Bill Meck said this morning. It was the 16th coldest day in August history yesterday, or at least 16th coldest night in the history of August in Lexington. I went for a walk last night, and everybody has adopted my style. Hoodies and shorts now is the preferred style of everyone in Lexington. You're going with it as well. So, Ryan, it's a perfect time of year. Saturday might be, knock on wood, the best weather for a Kentucky first game.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Remember last year it was a lightning and everything the whole time? Now you might get the most pleasant day to watch football in August ever. It feels like October football weather right now. And usually these early games in August, early September, it's 150 degrees out there when you go to Crogher Field. This is going to be a perfect day. It's going to be perfect. I mean, it's going to be absolutely perfect Saturday. again, knock on wood.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Drew, I hear today you have a U versus Shannon pickleball feud, am I right? It has been. This feud's been brewing for a long time. He's been taking some unnecessary shots at me on the pre-show when I haven't been able to defend myself. But today, me versus STD at the new PKL pickleball country boy place, and then after I beat him, he and I are teaming up to play two listeners who he picked on the pre-show.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Oh, I don't know if that's a good idea. Like after you all play, presumably frustrations come out because both of you are very competitive in different ways. Shannon's very competitive. Yeah, I don't like to lose at anything. You're competitive in a sort of more subtle way, but Shannon's very competitive. Do you think you can put aside that competition to then team up? Should you team up first and then play each other? My logic was after I play Shannon, I won't have broken a sweat at that point.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So it'd be a little easier because I don't know the doubles players. They might put me through a little more of a workout. Who are you playing a double? Warm up. Shannon, who'd we pick? A couple of guys that I don't have their names in front of me right now. Oh, you just pick somebody off the radio? It doesn't matter what their name is. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:42 All right, well, good. The mega powers are going to explode first. Then we're going to reunite and get back together. Okay. Well, so you're doing that today. Five to seven. Come watch us. Have a cold one.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Okay. So, yeah, I am doing this show. Then at 12 o'clock, immediately flipping the ESPN radio from 12 to 3. So five straight. I did five straight hours yesterday. I'm going to do five straight hours today. And I have, what are we talking about on the ESPN today? Oh, you know what you're talking about.
Starting point is 00:06:10 You're talking about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. That is it. Well, I better get some practice right now. Okay, so now look, I know it's football game week. If there's people that don't like we're leading with this, you know what, that's fine. Get over it. We'll be talking about football in a second. Yesterday.
Starting point is 00:06:27 We're on ESPN. I don't even remember what we're discussing. It's a, you know, it's football. It's training camp ball. blah, blah, and all of a sudden, I get the thing in my ear. They do this on ESPN when there's breaking news. Rather than me seeing it and go and Shannon play the sound, on ESPN, they just hit,
Starting point is 00:06:43 brum, bum, bum, remember that old ABC news thing? Yeah, that's their breaking news signal for, like, big stuff. They don't do it just for, you know, Bob's signs with the Patriots. This is burn, brum, bum, bum, and when you hear that, there's a part of me that's like, is the United States? being invaded. You know, I mean, that's a, that's like the real news signal. And I, and okay, so this, now we're back to, I've got a lot going on here. There's people here for lunch. I have, I've, uh, I've got my screen. I've got my phone. I'm trying to make everything. I also,
Starting point is 00:07:20 it was the segment where I was trying to eat a sandwich. So there was a lot happening. They do that. And then I go, oh, we have breaking news. And they said, look at your screen. So of course, I got a pull out my new readers. And I get the screen and it says Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey engaged. And I was like, wow, I didn't realize that was burn, burn, burn, burr, good enough.
Starting point is 00:07:45 So then I say, breaking news, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey are engaged. First of all, the text machine and more hilariously, ESPN radio and my Twitter feed lied up with people, like women mostly going, I can't believe I found out Taylor Swift was engaged from Matt Joe.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Like, and I understand. Why would that be how you would find that piece of news out? You got to break it to the world for a lot of people. Yeah. I mean, anybody who happened to have on ESPN radio at that moment, right? Like, I probably, because I beat the, like, apps, you know, like the text, you know, whatever, like, those hadn't come out yet. So then, like, you have to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:08:33 And the thing is, so I've been on ESPN when big time news has happened a handful of times. I was on when Tom Brady decided to come back to the NFL to play for Tampa Bay. Now, you might remember that was the day the NCAA tournament brackets came out. They came out like an hour after he said that. And so it kind of derailed our NCAA bracket show. The hardest show I ever did was I was on the air when that dude, you remember, remember during the European soccer championships a few years ago and it looked like a guy died on the field of a heart attack? You may remember that. Like they saved him, but like it was live on
Starting point is 00:09:10 TV and they showed him and he was shaking. And like, we were on radio during that. And that's a, you want to talk about a hard rate. Like, what do you even say? And they want you to stay on the story. And it's like, I don't know what to, what do you go say? Like, hope he's not, I mean, I hope he didn't die. Like, there's nothing to say. Well, with this one, Drew, I felt like I can handle it, you know. And then we became into what I want to talk about, which is things like, okay, let's say you're Travis Kelsey and you want to marry Taylor Swift. I mean, what ring do you get? Like, how do you even know? I mean, she's worth a lot more money than you are, right? I mean, she's worth, she could buy 150 of your ring. So what do you do, right? Give her a Super Bowl ring.
Starting point is 00:09:56 She doesn't have a Super Bowl ring. That's right. You can give her one of your. three Super Bowl rings. Then like where do you do it? You're in training camp. I don't think you can do it in Kansas City, right? So like where are you going to go? Then you think about the cost of the wedding. You know, isn't the like, how's it work? What's the man's parents supposed to pay for? The rehearsal dinner. Okay. So the bride's parents get the- So that's good. You can be like, all right, she's got the wedding. But man, that's an expensive rehearsal dinner if you think about it. So those things would be in my mind, Drew. I think it would be very intimidating to marry somebody with that much money.
Starting point is 00:10:33 I know he's got money, but he didn't have her kind of money. I mean, she could go buy every Genesis diamonds across America if she wanted, so there's a lot of pressure. I saw a TikTok of a woman making the ring. I don't know who she was. I guess she's some big popular. So that's how did they keep it a secret? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Enough people had to know about this for a little while. Somebody had to know. Photographers, you know, her team. So this is my question. 24 hours later. We don't have a royal family in America. Right? Like, we don't do that.
Starting point is 00:11:07 My mom would watch the royal family. What was it? Princess died and Charles. I still remember as a kid her watching that. And then, of course, who got married recently? It was like, Kate and William. Is that right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Kate and William. Plus eight. Is this the biggest, will this be the biggest wedding, American wedding since when, since when, right? Like, since,
Starting point is 00:11:33 like, what's bigger? I'm being dead serious. This isn't me just, like, just trying to think. Because we know both people. I don't know that that happens very often.
Starting point is 00:11:42 And they're still like, I don't know, it's not like too old people get married. Like, what is? I think the closest United States has had to a royal wedding is when John F. Kennedy married Jackie on asses.
Starting point is 00:11:54 That may be, but he wasn't, he wasn't president. Yeah. But they were still like... Did people... Did people know who they were? See, I don't think so either.
Starting point is 00:12:04 Like, then, I mean, it was Joe Kennedy. Yeah, they were still a huge name in the Northeast. You think that's as big as this? I don't know. I think we've not had one as big since then. Did JFK Jr. get married to somebody? They were engaged. Were they married?
Starting point is 00:12:21 But she wasn't famous, right? Darrell Hannah. She was an actress. He married Darryl Hannah? I don't think of... I don't think that's true. No? No.
Starting point is 00:12:31 I think... Did she look like her? What are you talking about? Did she look like her? I think she was a blonde hair. You think she... So you just... So you just assume they got married because they look like each other?
Starting point is 00:12:44 No, I mean, she married... Did she married... Yeah. Who is the... Who is the... She married... He made someone named Caroline, I think. I may be completely wrong.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Yeah, no, you're right. That rings a bell. That rings a bell. I love Ryan just... Ryan just assumed she married. married Darrell Hannah. Well, of course. I'm going to go ahead and say.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Yeah, I'm going to say he married Tina Turner while you're at. So anyway, I would argue this will be the biggest wedding of our lifetime, I think. Probably so. Now, Myron on the radio was like, they're going to do it live on television. And I said, no, they're not. But here's my question. Because we got a lot of dudes here who have the look of people who would. Serious question.
Starting point is 00:13:25 And don't try to be tough. Okay. If it was live on TV at like 6 o'clock on a Saturday and you had nothing else to do, would you turn and watch the wedding? Raise your hand, yes or no? I probably would. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Thank you. Wait a minute, ma'am, you wouldn't? You wouldn't even turn it on. You wouldn't even be curious. You wouldn't even want to see who was there. I would see your dress later. You'd want to see your dress. Right?
Starting point is 00:13:57 I would want to see if Travis Kelsey would like cut a fart in the middle of it because I think he's kind of a kind of an idiot and I like that about him. I want to see Jason dance at the reception. Yeah. I don't want to see all the other celebrities that would be there. I'd want to see the celebrities, right? If he got invited who didn't. I totally agree because like it would be funny to see who got invited and who didn't.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Because there would be people who would want to get invited that wouldn't. And I think that would be, I would watch it. I'm not going to try to act like I'm above it. It won't be on TV because she probably won't do that, but I would watch. Will it be bigger than the Bezos wedding we just had? Of course it would. I mean, like financially, like, well, she shut down a small island for it. Probably not, because they're gaudy.
Starting point is 00:14:40 But it'll be more interested. People were more interested certainly. I don't even know what the woman he married, what her name is. And I don't even care. Who cares about Jeff Bezos? I just thought it was like they were spending a lot of money. I think if Taylor married a random guy off the street, it would still be one of the biggest weddings we've ever seen if no one even knew the groom.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Here's what I think is fascinating. If you meet a woman who grew up, like being a Taylor Swift fan, so probably women 40 and under, 35 and under, right? I mean, they were crying, ma'am, when this came out yesterday. Like, not, like, crying as if they had gotten married. It was like their sister got engaged. It wasn't, it was like someone more than their sister got engaged. Like, people were, like, okay, so when I announced it,
Starting point is 00:15:26 are two women who weren't at the host stand. They started hugging each other like Kentucky had just won a game. Like they were hugging each other. Wow. And I thought, I can't imagine.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I mean, I don't know. When you got married, I didn't hug any one. I was happy for you. Ryan, I hugged a lot of people. It's amazing to me
Starting point is 00:15:51 the hold she has on our culture. That's why it will be the big, wedding of our lifetime probably and then they have to take it to an island so they do it somewhere in the united states it'd be packed it'll be packed the swifties would find a way and just crowded they what is the biggest big blue wedding of all time is there a wedding that you can remember Vince Merrow Vince is a star studded UK when I when you and I we went to Vince Merrow's wedding if you had streamed that every Kentucky fan would have watched because it was a who's who of UK
Starting point is 00:16:26 world. I mean, you had all these former players, and it's crazy that he's at Louisville now, because this was just two years ago. But you had all these former players, you had all the big donors, you had all the UK people, there were media people. Like it was, that's probably
Starting point is 00:16:41 the closest thing we've ever had at UK was Vince's way. Well, heck, just at the church for the ceremony, I had like Jack Givens to my right and Tim couch to my left. I remember whispering to Abby, like, what in the world have we walked into here? Yeah. I think we even called it our UK Royal Way. It was. Mark Stoops was a groomsman.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Yes, he was wearing the bow tie and all that. He was, like, standing up there. You know, Vince was up there with his, like, brothers, and there was little beady Mark Stoops right in the middle of it. All the football players were the ushers. Josh Caddusts walked us to our seat. Yeah. One person that wasn't invited to the UK Royal Wedding, do you remember who it was?
Starting point is 00:17:15 No. John Calgary. Oh, that's right. That was how you kind of knew things weren't. This was when he was still the coach. If you ever want People are like Oh, football and basketball
Starting point is 00:17:27 We're fine Just remember that Cal didn't get an invite To the football wedding I think that was part of the thing That's by far the answer to your question Yes it is 859-280 2287 Text machine 7772-745254
Starting point is 00:17:40 A ranking came out yesterday Of just raw talent Of the football Rosters in college football Just raw talent I want you to guess Right now in your mind Don't say it
Starting point is 00:17:53 or look it up, where Kentucky would be nationwide, just raw talent. I'll tell you where they came up with. This is like by metrics, not just recruiting rankings. That's next here I KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:19:48 Listen to Just Hill with Dr. Jade on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, A, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:20:26 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How Hard Can It Be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squad.
Starting point is 00:20:51 from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex?
Starting point is 00:21:13 Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard, you know? Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish it, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask,
Starting point is 00:21:29 how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura podcast network available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, TeguSports Radio, 85928027. We had a guy here just say something to me that I'm meant to bring up. who's working on that pre-up?
Starting point is 00:21:55 A really good lawyer. Not Travis. Yeah. It's a very expensive lawyer. I saw a tweet last night that said the pre-nup will be longer than any book Travis Kelsey has read, which I thought Shannon was a great line. I think they're saved the day will be longer than anything he's read. Yeah, I think it's going to be like that pre-dub. I mean, if I'm her lawyers, they've already started.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Oh, yeah. Like they have to. That had to be in place maybe before the machine said. Yes. Yeah, no doubt. That pre-nup will be amazing. When person writes, Matt, I wouldn't have watched Vince's wedding. I am a fan of what happens on the field.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I don't believe that. Stop. You're listening to this show. I mean, like, we're not totally about what's on the field. You watched it. Of course, it was in the summer when there's no sports going on. The who's who. I tell you this.
Starting point is 00:22:43 You wouldn't have even had to know who the people are to be entertained at the reception. Now, there was some stuff going on through set. Except for when Vince was singing. You could have ignored that because he has a horrible. voice. I still have video that on my phone if we need to use it any point. All right. So what was your guess on what Kentucky football's talent level is? 71. 71.
Starting point is 00:23:02 I'm going to say 71. Okay. What would you say? Not 71. I'll say 41. Shannon? 45. All right, here's the good news.
Starting point is 00:23:12 According to the, I think it was Toverick power rating. So this is rating how much talent is on the field for each team. We have the 27th most talented team in the country. That's shocking. For comparison sake, Louisville's 40th. Wow. Now, here's the problem. Almost everybody we plays ahead of us.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Including, and by the way, we're like 14th in the SEC, 13th in the SEC. No, 14th. We are only ahead in terms of raw talent of Vandy, Missouri. Even Mississippi State's ahead of us. Everyone's ahead of us. And I actually think it's probably correct, Drew. I think if you go look at the talent on that field, we probably do have the 27th best talent. And if we played in the ACC, just looking at, again, just looking at this, played in the ACC,
Starting point is 00:24:06 we would have the third most talent in the ACC. In the Big 12, we would have the second most talent in the Big 12. but the problem is we're playing in a conference where 14 of the 20 or 13 of the 26 teams ahead of us are in that conference. The Big 10, by the way, I think has 10 teams ahead of us or something like that. So it's awesome. So like it's almost like we're not as bad as we think we are, but it may not matter because the teams are even the teams that are playing are ahead of us. That's what we've been saying for months. the team's improved. We just don't know what that will actually mean when they start playing.
Starting point is 00:24:49 27th seems a little high. I mean, I haven't gone through every roster. But, you know, it's not that crazy if you start breaking it down. We've got, like, just a couple examples of players, like a McGowan was supposed to be running back one at Oklahoma a few years ago. Now, I'd have off the field problems, but just from a talent standpoint, that's a talented guy. The receiver room, it's got some injuries and some transfers, and there's all these different circumstances, but from a talent standpoint, there's some highly rated recruits that are still on this roster. And I'm not saying, Ryan, that it's necessarily correct. And I'm not going to say it's going to happen this year. But if you don't believe the number, go back and think about the Kentucky
Starting point is 00:25:23 Louisville game over the last few years. We've had a number of years where Louisville's had a better record than us, has come in favor. And then we've kind of handled them. Now, it didn't have last year, obviously. But we have, and I think it's in part because when the game actually starts, we have more talent than they do. Again, I don't know if that's true this year, but it's been true most years. Two years ago, for sure. They had a lot more talent than we did. We went over there and beat them.
Starting point is 00:25:50 No, I think it's the opposite. They had a better record than we did. Yeah, that's what I meant. But I don't think they had more town. No. And I think you could make an argument that even going into this year, if you just look at the talent, not the coaching. I mean, then this is where coaching comes in.
Starting point is 00:26:06 the talent might be a lot more than people think, but we also play good teams and we've got to coach them. And it shows the most when you play Louisville and teams outside the SEC in the trenches. That's why we need our offensive line to be talented because even a Toledo that's a good team. If your offensive line is shoving them around, it won't be much of a game. Actually, I think that's the best point. If you want to look at why Kentucky's been so good in the last few years, you'd see it in the trenches, you'd see it in the offensive line, whatever advantage we had over Louisville when our offensive line stunk last year that advantage goes away I think that's actually a great point teams can go get speed Louisville we all know have had very flashy players
Starting point is 00:26:46 but when Kentucky was dominating they were just doing whatever they wanted on the ground behind that offensive line I was surprised the number was that low I was going to ask that question before the commercial break I was thinking okay how many NFL players do you think I was 71 though I mean if it was 71 that would mean every team in the SEC every team in the big 10 and most of the ACC and Big 12. You think we're that bad? I just thought we had so many unknowns and no very few NFL caliber players at this point. I thought it was just too many question marks. So I thought they wouldn't give us any respect at all. I thought this would be one of those ratings where we would be really disrespected. Well, Darrell Hanna, by the way, did date JFK Jr. For five years. But they didn't get married. Didn't get married. Were you very invested in that relationship?
Starting point is 00:27:31 I was very invested. They were the Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift of the 90s. You should see your 80s? So somebody said me that they dated like for five years before he dated Carolyn Viss. By the way, just a little bit on 80. Last night I made the mistake of going. I turned on ESPN radio late at night. I don't listen to sports radio because it just frustrates me because things like this happened. And I like this guy.
Starting point is 00:27:58 But Ian Fitzsimmons, right? Ian Fitzsimmons, who the guy who always calls everybody coach, he was on there and he was talking about Miami playing. Notre Dame to start the season. He was talking about how college football is better when Miami's good. People all remember the you and blah, blah, blah this. He was like, and then I sat there and thought about it for a minute. And I was like, you know what? That was the late 80s. You know how long ago that was? 35 plus years ago. Do you know what that would have been like, Drew? If someone had said to me in 1995 when I was in high school, college football would be better.
Starting point is 00:28:35 if the teams in the late 50s were still good. We don't process that, but the late 80s now are like the 50s were in the 90s. Thanks for that. Appreciate that. So I want to be like, Ian, we're going to have to update our references just a little bit. We'll take a break, break back.
Starting point is 00:28:55 KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back to you sports radio here at KS Bar. It is Wings Day, Dollar Wings all day and night.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Come by and see the new place and the new menu and check them out. All right, we have some breaking news, Shannon. Running on our UK has just announced along with JMI the details of their new BBN NIL partnership for the athletes. The announcement, the documents will be on KSR here momentarily. I spoke with some folks. I appreciated them doing this. You may have heard a couple weeks ago when they did something like this. I said, hey, I wish I'd kind of known just so I would have an ability to explain.
Starting point is 00:29:47 They gave me a heads up yesterday. So let me explain how they explained it to me and what it is. And my general, okay with it, but a little bit of concern. But basically, BBN and I. I was going to be a partnership portal. So let me explain what players did up until this point. In the last few years, if I'm a player, Ryan Lemon is an athlete. He comes to UK, and most of them would have an agent,
Starting point is 00:30:13 an agent whose job it would be to, if KS. Barr wanted to do a deal with Ryan Lemon, I would go to the agent and we would try to work it out. Some kids, however, didn't even have agents. Now, the basketball players did, but like a random football player might not, or it might be kind of a guy or man or woman that you didn't really want them around, but like you had to talk to them. And then sometimes when they got to town, local people would try to help them. And then sometimes, you know, Club Blue would try to help them.
Starting point is 00:30:41 There was a lot of different ways it worked. It was kind of a hodgepodge, and it was kind of a mess. Sometimes if you wanted to contact the player, you didn't even really know how to do it, right? What UK will now offer to players is when you come to UK, we will be your point of contact. players can have other points of contact and I would argue the biggest stars will they will still have their own agent but UK will provide a portal
Starting point is 00:31:10 where they can do your deals now this was what was important to me the play if you're a player at UK you sign into this you agree to this and they can get you deals with the 200 official UK partners
Starting point is 00:31:28 but you are still allowed to get deals with other people. That's good. One of my concerns was UK was going to have it to where if you didn't do it with one of UK's official partners, you couldn't do it and it would hurt us in recruiting. You're still going to be able to do it. Here's how this is going to work in practice, Ryan. This is how it's going to work. I'm recruiting Ryan Lemon to come play basketball. I'm going to give you $3.7 million to come play basketball in Kentucky. 1.5 of that's going to come from my revenue share. And BBNNIL is going to say, we'll get you 2.2 from somewhere else, from one of these partnerships.
Starting point is 00:32:10 And essentially, BBNNIL is kind of taking the role of guarantior for what the rev share can't do. I think every school is going to have some version of this. I think a lot of schools are going to keep it separate from the university. UK has taken a risk. UK is putting this in-house. Does it work? I'm a little skeptical only because I don't think this official partner is going to do deals with, like, let's use this example.
Starting point is 00:32:46 Okay. I am car dealership in Lexington. I want to do a deal with Trent Noah. Is B.B. and I. are all going to only sell to Don, what's the official one? Paul Miller. Ford. Or are they also going to sell to Don Franklin? I'm told they might still also sell to Don Franklin, but I want to see how that plays out.
Starting point is 00:33:08 But at the end of the day, Drew, all fans are going to care about is, do we have enough money to get the players? I'm told UK believes under this setup, this gives them the best chance to get the revenue they need to go get the players. and it'll test itself over time. But I will say, very few other schools are doing it this way. You've got to have a lot of faith in JMI. Like JMI. Now, JMI is not just about putting on a good pre-and-post game show. JMI is going to be about getting us players.
Starting point is 00:33:39 And that company, we're going to need it to work. You know me? Just walking around with all the faith in JMI on the world. But really, though, if you say a megastar that does command million, four million, you know, like a Stokes. I mean, what if they don't go out and get it? Does a reputation get out? Well, here's what's going to follow through?
Starting point is 00:33:59 No, if they don't go out and get it, JMI is going to have to pay for it. So, I mean, ultimately, like, and then if JMI is not able to pay for it, then it'll hurt us. But what I said a couple weeks ago remains true. It used to be that if U.K. athletics succeeded or failed, you could see. say that is Mitch Barnhart's fault, that is Mark Pope's fault, that is Mark Stoop's fault. You had a place to point your decision. I think it is completely fair to say now that there's a new entity that will be part of deciding if UK works.
Starting point is 00:34:39 It's not just going to be President Eli Capiluto. It's not just going to be Mitch Barnhart. It's not just going to be Mark Pope and Mark Stoops. It is also going to be this entity of JMI. That business has to work for Kentucky to be good at sports. And whether they will or not, we'll be determined over time. Well, you answered the question on what Drew said that you get this big time recruit. He's promised $2.2.2 million.
Starting point is 00:35:04 Don Franklin, Paul Miller, Florida, these guys can't come up with it. J.MI has to cover it. So the kid still gets his money if J.M. Well, I mean, the kid still gets his money if you want to get players in the future. I mean, if you want to stiff the kid, then you ain't going to get players in the future. And there are schools out there, by the way, that did stiff kids. And it got, it heard them in recruiting. I think Syracuse, maybe in football.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Florida State. Florida State. It was bad in basketball. And, like, they weren't able to get players. So, you know, the company will have to make that choice. But is there something? I said a few weeks ago, UK athletics and JMI are in a lot of ways now the same thing. And I don't love that.
Starting point is 00:35:50 I think public-private partnerships can be good, but private entities, like basically taking over a public entity, is never good. But that's just my opinion. But this is the way it's going to be, and, you know, we have to hope. Like, let me give an example. UK handed over their dorms, basically, to private companies. And you know what? It kind of worked. I think they're better now than they used to be.
Starting point is 00:36:20 So I actually think that that decision worked for lack of, it was generally successful. I think UK basically handed their media broadcast to JMI, and I don't know that that always worked. Will this work? We have examples of it working. We have some examples of it not working. So we'll see if this works. So we should have given it to the housing company. They would handle this.
Starting point is 00:36:50 The housing company, I actually think they didn't pretty much. good job, at least. I don't know who they were. I actually kind of thought they did a pretty good job, so we'll see. Does there have to be like an office of people that are not employed by UK and not employed by JMI that kind of be the liaison for this partnership? No. Under the new rules, the JMI people can negotiate with these recruits directly. Wow. So you remember I told you about a year ago how recruiting worked at UK?
Starting point is 00:37:17 Mark Pope wants a player. Mark Pope says, I want this player. He would call Or someone would call the collective and say, go get this player. And I think our collective did a pretty amazing job in the last two years of doing it. Now that phone call is to JMI. And now it's JMI that becomes responsible. And my only skepticism is I had a lot of trust in the guy that was doing it before, and now we'll see what happens with these people. And they just had a great offseason under the other level.
Starting point is 00:37:46 I mean, they had just nailed it. I hope people understand the way we were doing it before, we kind of were killing it. We got a football roster that whether the team is good or not, it's a lot better than it could have been. And we got a basketball roster where with the exception of Donovan Dent,
Starting point is 00:38:04 they pretty much got everybody they wanted. And they really only lost one guy because of money, and it was that Lamar Wilkerson guy, and I think they'll be all right without him. And that was good show content for us. And that was when Ryan picked the wrong one. because the night before he was coming to Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:38:24 We do the show the next day. He ain't coming to Kentucky. So for fans, I would say, look, fans, you're going to care about one thing. Do we win or not? Right? And in that respect, that's all that's going to matter. But when we don't get a player, sometimes it might not be Mark Pope or Mark Stoop's fault anymore.
Starting point is 00:38:48 There's another entity involved at this point, and we're going to have to start keeping that in mind. In the same way that when I watch the Reds, sometimes I blame Terry Francona, like when he bunned with our best hitter with two guys on and nobody out when we were down in L.A. in the third inning. But then sometimes I might blame the GM, right,
Starting point is 00:39:09 for not getting a power hitter at the trade deadline, so we have a chance to be good. Now JMI is kind of our GM. So, bourbon lovers. The Commonwealth causes August Burrub, bourbon raffle is tomorrow, August 28th, $20,000 lineup, including the Weller Millennium. Tell me what that is again? This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:42:00 Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean.
Starting point is 00:42:28 I'll bet you a perimenopausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that Ness was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive.
Starting point is 00:42:57 Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How hard can it be? How hard can it be? Getting naked at 50 with the new guy. That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of My Cultura Podcast Network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Tuggy Sports Radio. 859-28027. Hey, there you go. Thank you very much here at KS Bar and Grill. One person writes, Matt, why doesn't JMI just hire the people that were doing the collective? They got too much money.
Starting point is 00:43:46 They wouldn't want to do it, I'm sure. They were financially well off. I don't think they need to do it. One person writes, Matt, how was Ryan's TV shoot yesterday? How'd that go? Your national TV to commercial debut. Went great. Yeah, they had a script that I kind of got emotional and broke down a little bit trying to read it.
Starting point is 00:44:05 But outside of that, everything went well. You got emotional. Got emotional. How so? Well, I don't know. I just brought it all back. That time, you know, I was in. You always were with me when it happened in Boston, man.
Starting point is 00:44:15 I broke down and just kind of brought it all back. So the question was how you're going to be crying on this national commercial? I hope they cut that out. They're not going to. Oh, no, that's what they're there for. If you're crying, that will definitely be in the commercial. Well, great. That's how they're getting their message across, how impactful it was.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Yeah, I mean, that shouldn't surprise you. If you're crying, they're going to be like, that's what we want. You used to do news. You know how it works. I know. It wasn't, like, the question that got me, like, you know, what happened when you got back from Boston and you saw your son? And then I can remember the most.
Starting point is 00:44:50 moment, you know, I saw him, he just broke down. That made me break down. You know, and so long we started telling the story, broke down again in front of everybody, right in front of the camera. Well, I look forward to seeing you, like, during the Super Bowl, maybe. Ryan Alarm.com, right? Ryan shows up. Who's up first, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:45:06 Noah. Noah. Go ahead, Noah. Hey, Matt. I just got to say, as a fellow Eastern Kentucky, and it's been really cool to see. Mark Pope, when he, from last weekend, taken the boys for the team down to Eastern Kentucky. you've seen all the great places of natural bridge red river gorge and all that um yeah i love that
Starting point is 00:45:25 like a backyard i mean a lot of ways um with that did you guys see the uh the pizza place that he took them to megels right they took him to mcgels right that's the place at the gorge you guys yeah so you guys know about that place then yeah yeah i've heard about i've never been but i've heard about it over the years says uh migales is being the like you know the place to go there yeah appreciate the call I would say as well. They actually just, I'm sorry, sorry. They actually just ranked the top 50 pizza places in America, one in each state,
Starting point is 00:46:00 and they named a place in Louisville, Shannon, as the place for Kentucky. The Post. Have you ever had that? Yeah, I think I have had the Post before. Is that, do you think it's the best? No. No, okay. Well, that's not very nice.
Starting point is 00:46:13 I think it's good, but do I think it's the best? No, I don't, honestly, I don't think it's the best I've ever had. Where is it? I can't think of where it is. Yeah, you know, I can't. I have to look it up. It's in Germantown? Yeah, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:46:24 It's been a long time. Well, that was the Kentucky pick. What do you think is the best pizza in Lexington? Currently, I'm doing ads for Donados, so shout out Donados. I've been to Miguel's. Well, let's say non-chain. Yeah, well, I will say about Miguel's, their pizza's fine. It's good, but it's more about the experience there.
Starting point is 00:46:42 You're usually just hiked. There's, like, camping ground all around. It is a place in Kentucky. A lot of people need to check out. By the way, today is the 85th birthday. of Dairy Queen. It is. 85 years of Dairy Queen today.
Starting point is 00:46:56 I think they're celebrating that maybe some deal on Blizzards today. Are you pro-Dairy Queen? Oh, I was a Dairy Queen yesterday. Don't park it, Dairy Queen. It took Saturday. At least don't park in the nine spaces that they own over there.
Starting point is 00:47:08 But yes, you are pro? Oh, yeah. Yoga Girl and I went and got a blizzard yesterday. After we came here and put up the new banner, went over here and got a blizzard. But that's the thing, though, you go for the blizzard or the breakfast. Nobody's going there for dinner, right?
Starting point is 00:47:19 Yeah, see, I... I don't know that I've ever eaten Dairy Queen food. I've eaten the Blizzard. I probably at some point had something for breakfast, but I've never eaten a Dairy Queen meal. Have you? I have, but it's easily been a decade. Probably going back to when I lived in Madisonville.
Starting point is 00:47:40 I remember they serve gravy with their chicken tenders, I think. That's the best thing. They do, yes. But any time I've been recently or in the last whatever, it's been just for a blizzard. This Derry Queen right over here. It only, there's only one person ever working there. And I feel bad for the person, because the person always seems so stressed out, which if I was the only person, I would be stressed out too. And one of the things they'll say to me is sometimes, you know, our Blizzard machine is being whatever.
Starting point is 00:48:13 And I feel like saying to him, Shannon, if you're Dairy Queen, you got to make sure the Blizzard machine. That's all the reason anybody's coming there. If nothing else is working, you've got to make sure that works, right? Yeah. I mean, what is anybody else coming to get there? Although some places, I will say, some dairy queens, not all, have country ham and biscuit. And for breakfast, that is. Now, country ham and biscuit would be good.
Starting point is 00:48:38 You're saying you can get that at Dairy Queen sometimes? You can in Mount Washington. You can at that one. I don't know about every Dairy Queen, but some of them have been, and it's really good. By the way, I also saw on TikTok, they did the, I want to use language that I can say with my mom listening. It was the towns in Kentucky where you're the most or least likely to find somebody for hanky-panky. Is that a good way to say?
Starting point is 00:49:06 A great way to say it. Companionship, but not long-term. Yeah, an experience. No strings attached. Very brief experience. Yeah. Can I give you the top three in Kentucky? I can't wait to hear it.
Starting point is 00:49:18 Number three was Moorhead. lives up to its name. Number two was Richmond. I feel like that's kind of fair, right? And then number one was Newport, and I kind of think that's fair too. Yeah, you haven't been to Newport. I'm not saying, no, it's not that you would want.
Starting point is 00:49:38 It's just where it was. But you know what? You know what city came in last? Mount Washington. Mount Washington was the worst place in Kentucky. We're wholesome in Mount Washington. I think that's what it was, that you all were, but were too wholesome and drinking too much mountain do for any hanky-pakey. Nobody's got teeth.
Starting point is 00:49:59 Nobody wants hanky-panky, but somebody with no teeth. The rest of the list was taking shots at true. Lexington, by the way, was number four. And then number five, I thought was interesting, was Ashland. So the top five in Kentucky were Newport, Richmond, Moorhead, Lexington, and Ashland. Not Louisville, actually. Did Madisonville or Middlesbrill received votes? Did not see Middlesbrill, did not see Madisonville, just saw those top five.
Starting point is 00:50:25 But I did notice that Mount Washington was last place if you're looking for companionship. Well, when you said Newport, it makes you kind of cringe. We all know the history of Newport makes you a little bit cringy. I also know, as somebody that went all across the state with Rommel Bradley, it was a pretty accurate list for him. Shout out to hunky-key-key. Shout out to Morhead and Richmond Shout out to
Starting point is 00:50:52 Shout out to Ramele Who's next? Let's go to Kelly Kelly, go ahead Kelly Hey Ryan I was in cognitive behavioral therapy For about a year and a half

Starting point is 00:51:36 Not yet. I appreciate the call, but the article did say that that could happen, but it has not happened yet. That was in the Lexington Herald article. So there you go. Those people need to keep that money. They made a mistake. Let them keep it. Yes.
