Starting point is 00:02:57 We are live and it is time for football. Tomorrow, Kentucky and Toledo start at 12.45. the UK football season begins. You can give a shout on the Clark's Pubbets Shop phone line. We are in studio. 859-280-2-287. A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-4-2-5-254 in this edition. It's sponsored by a T.J. Smith law office.
Starting point is 00:03:18 You call T.J.L. Make-May. We were originally supposed to be in a cornbread hemp field, but that's gotten postponed for a few days. So we are in studio here in Lexington, and I have a great idea that's coming in the second hour. Of course, it will almost certainly fail, but I've got Ryan Lim and Drew Franklin and Shannon the dude. Guys, football starts tomorrow. Yeah, this time tomorrow we're in deep in our pregame show for the first game of the year, man.
Starting point is 00:03:44 I'm excited about it. It'll almost be over. We'll be making our picks about right now tomorrow, but it does feel good that it's finally here. It's fun watching the Thursday games, even though we got another. Just stay up and watch those last night. I'll admit, I fell asleep. I was watching it, but I fell asleep while watching Nebraska-Sincinnati. But I watched Rutgers.
Starting point is 00:03:59 I watch East Carolina. If it was on, I check it on it. No offense to Dane Key, Shannon. I was pulling for Cincinnati at the end. Yeah. I like watching Nebraska bomb. So I was like, come on, beat him. But Danky got a touchdown.
Starting point is 00:04:16 So a lot of Kentucky fans, but we were all very happy about that. Congrats to Dane. I may get a little misty-eyed last night. I was watching the game. While you were husking your corn. Yeah, I was husking my corn. Just to see him, you had a great game, just see him kind of succeed. He wanted to stay here.
Starting point is 00:04:31 He just, Okay, stop. You got to stop that. He did. If he wanted to stay here, there was a way to do it. Well, no. I'm not happy with the way things were turned out here. That's fine, but then he didn't want to stay.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Like, you know, you can't, they're, both of those things are not true. He wanted to stay and he wasn't happy. If he wasn't happy, totally fine, but that means he didn't want to stay. I love Daneke. But like, he left. I'm cheering for him, although I want Nebraska to lose. But we're also not going to say he wanted to stay because if he wanted to stay, he were to stay. He chose not to stay, which is his right, but he didn't want to stay. He would have.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Well, he did. But he didn't. But he didn't. That's what I'm saying. At the end of the day, there came a time for a car to leave, Shannon, and he got in it, right? I still got some messages from UK fans, though, talking smack about him last night. Well, you're going to get that. I mean, you're going to get that more. I mean, people did that to you, unfortunately, even when he was here. Yes. So, I mean, you're going to get that. But, yeah, how about? you know, who would have thought the first time you'd see Travis and Taylor in public, it would be a Cincinnati football game. When they pan up to the booth and they were there right away, I was like, oh, okay, didn't
Starting point is 00:05:40 even consider that they could be here at this game. Makes sense. But he played there. Yeah, yeah. I'm sure TMZ was outside the stadium looking for them. I saw, you know, Nebraska's quarterback, Raola, he thinks he's Mahomes. Okay, so that's weird, that's weird. It's very weird. It's one of the weirdest things in sports, and he denies it. It's like, dude, you're wearing the same sunglasses. He even did the little thing, Shannon. So he does, you know, Patrick Mahomes. takes his fingers and like does the hey come here on a play or whatever yeah he does the same thing he does the big jump he does all he's got to stop acting like he's not trying because he's clearly
Starting point is 00:06:10 tried but he's in a bad place today because he led a game winning drive and they showed mahomes leaving the stadium before he got the ball to do it so well he's got his boy wasn't there that dude's got to stop acting like he's not trying to do it he's trying to do it which is fine they mentioned on the broadcast maybe this was public maybe you knew it ryan but i didn't know Dane's rooming with him. I did see that. On the road. We're in a hotel.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Is that what it is? Yeah. Okay. In the hotel, they're roaming together. But, Chan, he didn't want to leave, just for the record. That's what he did. I don't know why you got to be so combative about that. He wanted to stay, but man, things here and here didn't go.
Starting point is 00:06:45 You know, the culture changing like the way things were headed. But that would mean he wanted to leave, right? So he wanted to do have a better opportunity. So you had to leave. If he could have stayed, nobody kicked him out the door. He plays in the game tomorrow. He may get like three targets. Well, he got to.
Starting point is 00:06:57 five targets and five catches in a touchdown yesterday. To be honest, I'm a little worried about that Nebraska offense. Yeah, that Nebraska's office does not look. I mean, it looks maybe a little better than ours, but I don't know. But he got scored a touchdown. I was very happy. I was too. I was very happy.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Just like he did the first game of Kentucky, right in that end zone. We had the poster up in our, KS bar putting his hand up after he caught the touchdown. I missed him. He, like, fidgets with his gloves when he gets up. He's done that forever. And as soon as the first catch, he started doing it again. It felt weird seeing him in red, but he still looked just exactly like. like Dane went at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:07:29 So it was a good night at college football. Shannon and I called the South Florida over Boise State upset. Big fist up, Shannon. There we go. Look at that. They destroyed them. What? That was my guarantee yesterday on the show.
Starting point is 00:07:42 You guaranteed they covered. Did you pick them to win? Yeah. I said upset in South Florida. Well, Ryan. I picked Boise State. Finding Bush Hamdens. Ryan's the loser in the group.
Starting point is 00:07:52 But Shannon, you also, you were going to call the one a couple weeks ago with Idaho State. We talked you out of it. And they almost won. I don't know why I listened to you guys. Like you guys know what you're talking about more than me. You know what you're doing. All right.
Starting point is 00:08:04 So, UK and Toledo, so here's what we're going to do. Normally, I think every first football game that we've had, you know, we're out in the crowd. And we tried to get everybody pumped up, et cetera. But because the thing got changed, there was a miscommunication to where it was, etc. It was our fault. So we're going to get with them later on. But that means we're here in studio. and we were going to do it in the restaurant but that I didn't want Ryan like getting his pre-energy while people are trying to eat, you know, like where he's like knocking tables down.
Starting point is 00:08:37 We're going to be there all morning tomorrow. We're going to be there tomorrow. We were there the last few days. By the way, thank you all the folks who's come out. We've got, it feels like people have really enjoyed it. Gotting really good reviews. Nice crowd. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:48 And those of you write me that say like, hey, I did this. I like that. That's good. That's helpful. We're trying to continue. you, but anyway, point being, so I was like, we still have to kind of get that energy. So right now, Billy and Mario are efforting. And we'll see if this works to try to make it where we can do our number two of this show
Starting point is 00:09:07 out on the street. Oh, that would be fun. In downtown. Downtown, Lexington. Just out on the street, right? Stand out there and give a show probably to no one. But you could potentially drive by and see us out on the street. Now, it's not too hot.
Starting point is 00:09:24 This is a perfect day. It's not like 95 degrees. Do you like the idea of going out on the street? I love the idea. I'd sometimes just walk around downtown Lexington and after the show. I really enjoy it. Love the idea of doing a show there. Years ago, we did one in the pavilion.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Remember, that had a blast. That's during COVID, though. So people were a little hesitant to come around. Just being outdoors and being downtown doing the show was a lot of fun. Now, Shannon, it's almost certain this won't work. So I hope you are ready. Oh, I've got all the hot takes for the, for the season. I hope you're ready in case something happens and we get disconnected until we can get back up in this building.
Starting point is 00:09:58 You might have to do your Shannon thing where you let people, you know, do what you got to do. I'll just put on stone-tipple pilots and walk out of here. That's what I'll do. Well, glad you appreciate the craft. All right, so UK Toledo, lines back up to nine. So it was all the way down to seven. Now it's back up to nine, some places you find nine and a half. So fans seem to be, you know, better seem to be back on UK.
Starting point is 00:10:25 It feels like three weeks ago, everybody thought we were going to lose. Now everybody's like, this is a good bet for Kentucky to win. I don't think one thing has changed during that. Are you feeling good? I am. I bought the dip. I'm in at nine and a half for plus money. I actually saw it.
Starting point is 00:10:45 It's up to 10 on Draft Kings this morning. It's up to 10. It's really starting to come in. It's one of those things. It was a trendy pick. Podcasts were picking it. I saw Barstool. It's one of their picks this week.
Starting point is 00:10:56 It's an easy one to pick. But if you look at what Kentucky... Oh, they're picking Toledo? Yeah. Not to win, to cover. But if you look at what Kentucky did to the Mac last year in Ohio, which was the champion, and in the opening game was Southern Miss, they destroyed them before the lightning delay. And I think we all agree that this team's going to be better than last team, no matter how the record looks.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I feel like they're in a good spot to open the season. They should dominate them in the trenches. The Mac has started well, though. Ohio played Rutgers right to the end last night. Buffalo played Minnesota pretty well for a little bit there, and the Mac as well. So, I mean, you know, it's very not a lot of sample size, but the Mac has held itself okay so far.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Man, I don't care if they win by one point. I just want, they just have to win this game. They cannot lose. They just need to win by a point. I don't understand where all the Toledo hype was coming from over the summer. Do they have a top 30 raw talent? team like Kentucky does? No. Do they have a seven-year quarterback like Kentucky does? No. Kentucky's going to run them.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Well, remember, Ryan declared they have a Hizman candidate. At the quarterback. I might have said that too. But you know what? It doesn't matter. It's not true. That was a video game. We found out. We don't have to talk about that. This is real life. And Kentucky's going to beat them. Yeah. I mean, I feel pretty good about it. I think it's going to be nerve-wracking for no reason. They'll probably be close for a while. It'll be a three-point game at halftime.
Starting point is 00:12:20 We'll all be stressing out. And then I think in the second half, they'll pull away. But I do think it'll be, I think it'll be a stressful game. I mean, so I'm one of these people for big games. And while I don't consider this a big game, I consider it kind of a big game because of what all is at stake. I sit there and think often, okay, what happens with each result? So I remember when we played Oakland in basketball,
Starting point is 00:12:47 I sat there and thought before the game, right, what happens if we lose. And I played out what I was going to say, et cetera, and then it happened. So I have been thinking about what happens if we lose. If we win, we just say, okay, Ole Miss next week can get us ramped up. There we go. But if we lose, you know, then you have to sit there and think about what's that. You can think about the whole season as a whole. I think if you lose it first game.
Starting point is 00:13:16 I think you got to think about the whole Stoops air. which is a lot of pressure to put on one game. But I also don't think, Drew, that that's ridiculous. Do you? Oh, not at all. He's gone back a little bit. I think Mitch called it a one-year blip. It's a little bigger than a one-year blip.
Starting point is 00:13:32 He's backpedaling. But if you lose your home opener to a Mac team, even if it is the Mac favorite this year, yeah, that's a horrible look. I mean, I'm thinking they've rebuilt this offensive line, and we're hearing it's supposed to be the big blue wall again. They have a significant size. advantage tomorrow. If they don't dominate Toledo, we got big problems on the year, I think.
Starting point is 00:13:52 So I think losing it. But there are times though, I mean, we can't lose. Yeah. But there are times where teams can struggle in the first game. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of turnovers. But they've got to win. I mean, if you turn it over six times or something crazy, maybe it's a fluky game. But Kentucky, especially up front, should be able to push them around. And if they don't, that's going to be a big problem. What happens when Chip trained him scores a touchdown in this game tomorrow? I don't care. I mean, you're your best player. I probably will. That's kind of irrelevant to me. I mean, now, if he scores three touchdowns, we can't stop them and they win by 10,
Starting point is 00:14:24 yeah, then that matters. But I think if we lose, it's not going to be because of Chip train them, right? It's going to be because of bigger issues. Yeah, I think people would just be upset at cleaning and never get to see him do his thing here last year. Yeah. Now, if he's Ashton Gentie and he never did it last year, Shannon, then that would be frustrating. Yeah. He's going to have a touchdown more than likely, but we're going to have three or fours.
Starting point is 00:14:47 So what's it matter? Well, they came here five or six years ago after our big citrus bowl win. His first season opener, Stoops even admitted this week, he's like, I thought I had a great team. And we went down 7-0 to Toledo, then 14 to 7 to Toledo, and at halftime, it was tied. And that what Toledo team wasn't even really where this team was. So it's possible, and they've seen it happen before. But maybe that's helping be a wake-up call on this one. Well, they went on to win that one by 14.
Starting point is 00:15:11 They've taken quite a strategy this summer. Say nothing, do nothing, have full. fans know nothing. Yeah, no promotion whatsoever. So this is it. I mean, this is like we're, everyone's impression is coming tomorrow. And if it's a good impression,
Starting point is 00:15:26 I think it buys you, you know, a week, I don't think people, let's say we win 40 to nothing. I don't think people are going to be like, all right, we're great.
Starting point is 00:15:34 The decision will be made next week against old mess. But it can go in the wrong direction if things don't work. I'm still excited. I love football season. I'm excited for UK. I said this, I've said this.
Starting point is 00:15:48 We like, if you are not using your tickets, send them to mat. dot Jones at Kentucky SportsRadio.com, I'll give them away. We'll have people. I'll give them away on the pregame show. I'll give them away to listeners, whatever. We need to have as many people in that stadium as we can have. Yes. If you don't, if you, it's Labor Day weekend, I understand if you can't go, but don't let them go unused.
Starting point is 00:16:06 Like, let's, let's pay it forward. I think, I don't remember who. Who was it that won it? Steve, was it Steve that was, I was giving the ticket? Somebody sent me a ticket for him. The guy that wanted to go that had won. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:18 Nobody else, right, call unless I ask. It's in bond that bridge. We'll look it up. Who needed it? Yeah, whoever it is. I had your ticket, sir. Just so you know, somebody sent it. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Text machine is 772-775-25-4. It is game day eve right here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:17:52 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you here on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Search Learn the hard way and listen now. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcast presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne. This is my best friend, Janet. And we have been joined at the Hipsons High School. Absolutely. Now a redacted,
Starting point is 00:18:39 amount of years later. We're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips. Wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drink. Sidebar. Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? They had a bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white claw or something here? Just take it. What are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album?
Starting point is 00:19:02 I would. Come on. Could you pull? I would buy it. Cut through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky I'm not a drug addict. You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You're lucky I'm not a killer.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on. Oh. Listen to soccer moms on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life, one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a paramedipausal chin here you do. So let's talk about it.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with the Adamani Arriva, where I call on my Gen X squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How hard can it be? Getting naked at 50 with the new guy. That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try.
Starting point is 00:20:20 So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into it, unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura Podcast Network available on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. See, I can see that look on Shannon's face. Get that little smirk on his face. You all can't see, right?
Starting point is 00:20:52 I can see a look on, he's got that smirk. He's got that smirk. You know, I mean, Shannon sees a weakness and sees it. A poke. A poke. Shannon is like, all right, he sees you. There's a little jab. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:05 I know. I know you. I have a lot of enjoyment out of stirring the pot. No kidding. Shannon. Slow down. Slow down. So I got people predicting scores here. I'd like to know. What do you think is going to happen in UK Toledo? I'd like to get a sense of where the fan base is. 772-7-7-4-5-254.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Just give me the score. And don't be something ridiculous. Like what you actually think. I'd like to see where fans are and take a little 7-7-7-2-75-4. While you're doing that, one person writes, Matt, my dad really wanted to stay with my mom but then the young hot blonde came around and he left but he did really want to stay with her and it made my mom feel a lot better when I said his intentions for there look at Channing's same thing about my parents it happened
Starting point is 00:21:54 they wanted to stay together you could but this was a ride this was a texter but Shannon's like, I know that. I can relate to that. But Shannon. Yeah. They didn't really want to. I mean, they wanted to. But they didn't.
Starting point is 00:22:11 But they didn't. But they wanted to. 9-280, 2287. One person writes, give me one fact as to why Toledo even has a shot. We all act like it's a given, but I haven't heard one fact that would make me care. They came in sixth in the Mac last year. Why does everyone act like Toledo? Toledo is good.
Starting point is 00:22:34 What's the answer to that? Well, Toledo and Alabama have the two longest streaks without a losing season. Rich Brooks was the coach the last time at Kentucky, the last time Toledo had a losing season. Just consistent, consistently good. They played two power four teams last year, beat both of them. Okay. See, that's a big one. Went to Starville.
Starting point is 00:22:55 They beat them pretty. It wasn't like a fluke. They handled them pretty well. Beat Pitt. I mean, their starting running back was just. supposed to be your starting running back. You know he's up to SEC caliber. He was punching in touchdowns for Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:23:07 They're a quarterback, although not a Heisman candidate, as said on some shows, been there a long time, played a lot of football. Their biggest weakness that I've heard is going to be their defense. And then what I said in the first segment, just naturally inside, Kentucky just has a huge size advantage on both on offensive and defensive lines. All right. Let's go to, I can't lead with him because he'll be negative. Let's go to Tim.
Starting point is 00:23:28 Go ahead, Tim. Who, which one of you guys called the dang key anytime touchdown score yesterday? I think Drew did. That was me. I think it was Drew, yeah. Shout up to you, my man. Yeah, a little plus 175. You're welcome.
Starting point is 00:23:48 Yeah. In my opinion on the score, I think it would be a little bit close. Nothing crazy. I say we win by 13th. 13 points. That's just... All right. Well, there you go.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Appreciate it called. Drew's given free draft kings wins with his Dane Key anytime touchdown. It paid well. It did, but I got greedy and I also bet two touchdown. So I made a little bit, but a lot of my earnings went to that. 8.9-28027. Remember, it tells me no. 772-754.
Starting point is 00:24:22 What's the score going to be? I'm kind of trying to get a sense of where the fans are. Let's go to Jay and Lyndon. Go, Jay. Hey, I get two quick things. First, and I would not ask. this if Ryan didn't bring it up, but I want him to answer this after I ask you a question, Matt. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Dane Key leaving caused a lot of pessimism among the fan base. Does Ryan want to make me feel better or bad about that after I ask you your question, Matt? You always have good betting angles the first couple weeks? Yes. Do you have any, and I will say this, here's the angle for everybody. The first quarter under last night. Always big. 11 of the 13 teams were under their first quarter total.
Starting point is 00:25:03 I think that's actually a great one. So here's my thing. I usually stay away from week one, heavy. I mean, we're going to do, we have to do a draft king's parley, which we're going to do. I stay away from week one heavy. I go heavy on week two. I go heavy on the overreactions on week one because people put way too much stock. So for instance, just looking at the games last night, I will bet Rutgers.
Starting point is 00:25:29 against whoever they play next week against the spread because people will think they're no good because they only won by three points, right? I'll probably bet against Cincinnati because they played that game close, but I'm not sure that team is any good, but people go, oh, they were close to Nebraska, so they must.
Starting point is 00:25:44 People overreact to week one. So that's my biggest one, and I appreciate the call. It's very hard in week one. The one thing that rarely happens, though, is there are rarely upsets, major upsets in week one. Sometimes, but it's rare for a major one.
Starting point is 00:26:01 So I'll just take a lot of money line favorites, turn it into a parlay and win, Drew, because I think it's very hard for a team in week one. Now, week two and week three, you do sometimes see upsets, but you don't see them a ton in week one historically. Yeah, I probably shouldn't give advice for week one, because if it's on my TV, I'm betting it. I mean, like last night, I don't know anything about Rutgers, but yeah, I'm live betting Rutgers why that game's going on.
Starting point is 00:26:25 So I'm more of a spray-the-board type of guy, But in week one, I do go for a lot of underdogs to cover the spread. A lot of the games, like at 14 to 20 type spread. A lot of the games that happened last night is what happens in week one. You get a team and you go, oh, no, Ohio might lose. Or excuse me, Rutgers might lose. And then they win. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:26:42 Central Florida's down 10 to 3, but then they come back and went. That happens a lot in week one. The upsets you do sometimes get is like a top 25 team that's overrated. And they go on the road. Boise State is an example of that. Yeah, they were a 7. favor in lost by close to 30. The week, I've always said, the week to make money in sports gambling for me in
Starting point is 00:27:03 college football is week two. That's the week where you go, okay, because a perfect example, let's say we beat Toledo by 40. Old Miss game will get a lot of credit. Counter that, let's say we beat Toledo by three. Then you play Ole Miss, we might be a two touchdown underdog going into that game. And that we should, you know what I mean? So that's the kind of stuff I talk about.
Starting point is 00:27:25 You mean to answer your other question? Yeah, go ahead. head. I think people that got pessimistic after Dane left because, you know, he's a local kid. He grew up here. His dad played here. He wanted to stay here. So I think him leaving did send shockways. I think people are like, well, what is wrong? If Dane Keyes leaving, what is wrong? I think that was a big part of it. But I will say this. You know, I read Mark's story had an interesting thing in The Herald. He took all the players who left us last year and went somewhere else. And there's a really good argument that only like two of them are even going to regularly see the field.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Dan Key and then the dude who went to like Barry on Brown at LSU. Yeah, but he's second string. First string punt returner. Okay, fine. But I mean, I'm talking about regular offense. He was the go-to guy. He was the go-to guy. And he's like going to, he's second string.
Starting point is 00:28:17 And then I think a guy that went to USC may be playing a lot. But like he listed, he went, most of these guys are playing at schools you haven't heard of. or aren't even on the depth charts early on. So the transfers out, I think, felt really bad. But it'll be interesting to see how many of them even mattered. Dane will matter. It would be better to have Dane than to not. You know, I'd love to have Barry on.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Yeah. But, you know, I think we all kind of like, well, everyone's leaving. Story's point was a lot of these guys just may not have been very good. You know? That and I, specific to last season, A lot of them needed to go, not just because performance on the field, and maybe their new schools are learning that they got a few bad apples in the locker room, too. And that's why they're not going to advance at their next spot,
Starting point is 00:29:04 because it's more of just them and their attitudes. Our culture went to where they were. Their own work ethic will hold them back. And it ends up hardiness. We'll take a break. I want to talk about the guy driving around Lexington in a couch. Have you seen this guy? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:16 We'll be right back. KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. This is not what Ryan was singing. It's a great song. John Waite. John Wade. I mean, I, you get to the chorus. I mean, I'm not
Starting point is 00:29:35 going to do it here because, you know. Might as well as we get a taste of it. I mean, but when you, when you get to chorus here and he gets into it and like that last verse shit, and if I'm in the car, just be ready to hear some falsetto belt it out. Let it roll. Yeah. Well, you're going to be gone for Bourbon and Beyond Fest. I was going to invite him out because he's playing there. I was going to invite I would go just to hear that song and then leave. I would, because I don't know what else he plays. Does he play anything else that matters? No, probably not.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Everybody's just going to be sitting there going, come on, man. Just play missing you. Just, just, let's go. We all know why we're here. Come on. But it's not just him. There's a ton of other bands. No, I know.
Starting point is 00:30:14 I'm just saying, but like he, for his set, I'm just going to be here and just be saying I'm ready to miss you. Turned up. See, that's the key. The way it's so enunciated. since you've been gone and then pause away. Like that's why the song works. Don't you agree, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:30:36 I don't know how they came up, but that's why it's good. And on podcast, you're just hearing silence and me saying, that's why it's good. But you know what? What do you want? I can't do. You have to listen to it live or play it in the background.
Starting point is 00:30:49 That's right. And then you'll do it. I'm not going to dwell on this because it's a day before the game. But the athletic interviewed fan bases of every Power 5 team. And they said, optimistic about your football team's future. Some teams, including Louisville, 100% of the fans said yes. They could not find one Louisville fan that did not say they were optimistic about the future.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Kentucky, 11% last place amongst all four teams. Now, that stat stops mattering tomorrow at 1245. Tomorrow at 1245, game start. So whatever you think of that stat, it now is irrelevant. it. But I will note for UK football, it was a huge failure of your offseason that you have your fan base going in with
Starting point is 00:31:37 11%. That's on you all. Again, starting tomorrow, doesn't matter. But that's a huge mistake. When Minnesota's fan base is more excited than ours, that's a problem. When Vandis is more excited than ours, that's a problem. 11%. Louisville's is
Starting point is 00:31:53 100%. Tennessee's is 94%. Cincinnati that played last night that has Scott's tots as their coach is 45%. Our fan base is 11. That's on y'all. You guys did that. And so now, hopefully we change it back.
Starting point is 00:32:13 But I've never seen, I've done this a long time, been on radio 15 years, never been a time that talking football has been worse to get the fans motivate. I mean, the game's tomorrow, and we're talking about it, and even predicting scores, which in basketball, my phone broke. breaks so many people predict scores. I mean, we've got a bunch, but not like we usually would have. It's just a failure of motivation. It is.
Starting point is 00:32:39 For a motivated program, it's a failure of motivation. Again, starting tomorrow, it doesn't matter. That's why I'm dropping this and going on. But when I saw that number, I literally, when I saw the headline of the story thought, wonder where Kentucky is. Bet it's towards the bottom. I didn't think it would be last, Shannon in the entire big four. Last.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Yeah, I wonder exactly who they're, finding to interview and to talk to for these. But I mean, in our conversations? It doesn't feel like our fan base is that pessimistic. I mean, they are, but 89. I think so. You see it, Shannon. When we talk football, the phone's closed.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Now, I'm going to talk about couch guy, and the phones will get full. Like, that's just, I can look at the text machine. A football segment is the deadest thing I can talk about. And it wasn't always like that. three years ago, football talk would move the needle more than basketball talk. Just, you. We can do our own poll here with the callers and disaster. All I do have to do is look at this line.
Starting point is 00:33:43 And I can sit here and see it. And I talk about football. And it's like, you know, Jerry. Yeah. And by the way, Jerry, you didn't have to. I was going to go to you right here. But, you know, so I'll drop it because like start tomorrow. It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:33:57 but I was not surprised to see that step. Now, let's move to the guy that's driving around Lexington and a couch. Okay, this video went viral yesterday. A guy set up, what would you call it, Ryan, a living room? So I don't know anything about cars. But he's driving around, and instead of a body of a car, it's a couch with he and his wife. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Right? Yep. It's like he took the base of like a golf cart or something and modified it and put a big couch on it, made it like he was driving around town. Like he said, and he's living there. It's like a three-wheeler. But it also has a steering wheel.
Starting point is 00:34:30 Uh-huh. Like the, the table is a steering wheel. Yeah. And he's driving it around. I saw two videos. You posted one and then I saw one on Instagram. He was next to trancy at one of them. And he was like right down here.
Starting point is 00:34:45 He was right there at, you know, next to Triangle Park at another one. And he calls it couch car. And he and his wife are just sitting on a couch. driving through downtown. They have a rug under their feet. Behind their heads, there's lamps and plants on like a little table. I mean, it is their whole living room on what looks like a three-wheeler. I mean, they have lamps.
Starting point is 00:35:08 There's a picture of like a police officer sitting on it with them. The Instagram is up to 45,000 followers. For couch car. For couch car. Wow. Now, a couple things. How's that street legal? I'm not asking people to arrest them, Shannon, but that can't be legal.
Starting point is 00:35:25 It does have a license plate on the back of it if you look closely. So you think they went to the office and said we have a couch? They go, what model is your car? You can drive a three-wheeler. The Netflix SEC documentary shows Dion driving around in one. So maybe they just took that. They probably have seat belts on. Is there a law that your seat can't be a couch?
Starting point is 00:35:46 I mean, if you got a seatbelt on and a license plate and it's registered. I guess you can have a three-wheeler so that doesn't have a covered top. I don't know that people make. the rules found, like thought about a couch. I agree. As a car. You know, maybe they're supposed to have a little inspection. Maybe they just didn't do the inspection that day.
Starting point is 00:36:04 And they go back home and he pushed the couch on the car. I don't assume they can't get on the interstate, right? Probably not interstate. But in the video, I'm watching it again. It has brake lights, tail lights. Are there different laws? Again, I don't know the answer to this. Maybe I should.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Are there different laws for driving on city streets and on the interstate? Oh, yeah. Yeah. And like this guy used to just do his neighborhood streets over there in Kenwick neighborhood just kind of drive around on it. I think like Drew said he modified it, got brake lights, got a license plates. You said, oh, yeah. Do you know that's true?
Starting point is 00:36:32 Yeah. Yeah. You can't drive a tractor like on an interstate and things like that. There are different rules you can't do on the interstate. You know that. Yeah. Okay. I mean, there should be.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Yeah. I didn't know. But people can ride motorcycles on the interstate. Right. You can ride these three wheelers on the interstate. You can ride with three wheelers on the interstate? Like these, what do they call? I can't think what they call.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Yeah. Yeah. The polaris. There's a name for them. Yeah. But you can't drive like a ATV on the United States. No, no, these are built like vehicles. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Okay. Just don't take couch car down to State Street after a big winter, though burn it. So, good point. This is like gone crazy viral in two days. So would we say couch car, like he's now famous, right? Very famous. So how can he make money from it? That's the question.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Well, he should be able to drive around Krogerfield tomorrow with his VINMO on the back of his big sign. No, no, you rent it out. He should give rides. Yeah. give rides. Instead of an Uber, he'll take you home. He should give a ride. Yes. Imagine at the bar, your couch pulls up. Dude, there you go. You could ride on a couch home. Name your price. Name your price. Perfect. That's right. Why wouldn't you do that? Yep. Oh, that's genius. Like sit at KS Bar parking lot, drive people to Commonwealth Stadium on a couch.
Starting point is 00:37:45 They'll put your feet on his table, though. Be respectful of his living room. Take shoes off. Take your shoes off. Does the lamp work? It looks like it in the airport back up. Yeah. Both of them are lit up. The lamp is lit up. Yeah. Now that's kind of... He's had a leg lamp. So do you know this person?
Starting point is 00:37:59 No, I don't know him. One of my good friends just said he lives on his street that he's been seeing it kind of come together for 15 years. Yeah. 15 years. Wow. Seriously. He used to drive around the Kempik neighborhood for years. Yeah, he just told me the street.
Starting point is 00:38:13 So you knew about it. Oh, yeah. So what made it just go off like just random? Well, I think, no, Drew said, I think he finally modified it where he could ride on the city streets, not just his neighborhood street. Wow. Well, couch car is now becoming one of the more famous things in Kentucky, at least in Lexington. Everybody's talking about couch car. Maybe we should do our show on it one day. I bet he would do it.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Yeah. Although, you know how it is when we try to drive around. It doesn't work. You should stay away from State Street if we beat Texas. That's what Shannon just said. Oh, he said that. Sorry. You stole his joke. Adam. Go ahead, Adam. I feel like a lot of the hype from Toledo is coming from, yes, they won at Mississippi State last year. You all know how bad Mississippi State was. They were off. And let me give you a hint, they were worse than Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:38:58 They were awful. And by the way, their fans are one of the like two or three that were just above us in the optimistic rate. But yes, they were awful last year. Mississippi State's two wins. First game against Eastern Kentucky. And they lost every other game until they beat UMass. Who is the worst team in D-1? Right, right.
Starting point is 00:39:21 So, you know, looking at, I know we lost Key and Brown, but just looking at stats, Macklin let us in two games receiving, Willie Rodriguez letting, let us in a game receiving, hardly Gilmore, let us in a game receiving, all players that are still on the team. And, you know, Key and Brown, as good as they were, we only had two 100-yard receiving games and only two 100-yard rushing games for Wilcox. So I think the stable of the skill players is much better with the depth. Well, that's an interesting question. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:39:58 Do you think it's possible that the receivers could get more production overall than they did last year? Yes, yes. We don't have to say his name, but he's at LSU. We were forcing it to him way too much. Kind of one of them gone the year before, to be honest. That room needed a reset. I love Dane. I think it just needed a reset across the board.
Starting point is 00:40:15 I know Macklin's back, Gilmore's back, some freshmen are back. but I think that wide receiver room was severely mismanaged last year and they just needed a fresh start. Yes. Macklin probably should have gotten a lot more targets. We saw when they started going to him at the end of the year. He looked like one of the better guys. Now he'll have that opportunity from the beginning.
Starting point is 00:40:32 And then when you go to the running backs, that's where's the biggest for me. Wilcox was the leading rusher and he is barely going to see the field as it stands right now. He's down to running back four. When he was the guy, fans wanted on the field and he had close to 600 yards last year. I think that's a really good point. Your running backs have to be better. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:48 If your guy starting last year is now four string, that's probably a good thing. For all you know, there are some wild myths floating around about UK credit union. These myth makers. Let's go out and bust them. Myth one, do you have to be part of UK to join? No. Myth, too. Joining is an ordeal.
Starting point is 00:41:05 Stop. And truth is a lot of Kentuckians are missing out on great rates and real benefits. Seven local branches or online in under three minutes. Where you're blue and white or not, you can still do UK federal credit union. and we're not just for some, we're for everyone. Membership eligibility required, fairly insured by NCUA. We'll take a break. We'll be right back.

And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:42:43 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Starting point is 00:43:31 Just a little bit bigger hips. Wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drink. Sidebar. Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? I would have a go go.
Starting point is 00:43:45 Well, then you got it. Do you want a white collar or something here? Just take it. Oh, what are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album? Oh, I would. Come on.
Starting point is 00:43:52 How did you imagine? I would buy it. Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict. You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You are.
Starting point is 00:44:05 I'm not a killer. I love this team, and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on. Oh. Oh, oh. Listen to soccer moms on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Deanna Maria Riva, actress, mother, lover, and a Gen X woman walking through life one hot flash and hormonal crying jag at a time. You ladies know what I mean. I'll bet you a paramedipausal chin here you do.
Starting point is 00:44:32 So let's talk about it. Join me on my new podcast. How hard can it be with Deanna Maria Riva, where I call on my GenX squads from Ohio to Hollywood as we navigate midlife's most fantastic. B.S. All of a sudden, I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that nest was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats, fupas, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears, or tears
Starting point is 00:45:12 of laughter and dive into it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura podcast network available on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Tughey Sports Radio. 8592-2802287. Text machine, 772-754.
Starting point is 00:45:38 That's why I like the text machine. Sometimes you get good information. sometimes you get people who say this is back-to-back text, Shannon. Text one. Ryan is incorrect about driving on the interstate. Why does he say things with such confidence when they're clearly wrong? That's text one. Text two.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Ryan is right about the interstate. You ought to listen to him more on some things he has good information. Okay, well, somebody's wrong here. So they're back to back. Both people were outraged. One was outraged at Ryan for being so wrong. One's outraged at me for not believing Ryan. and they're like contrary.
Starting point is 00:46:12 I don't know which one's correct. There's usually a sign on the interstate though. I remember there's like a little white sign that'll say something like no, you know, grasshoppers and no like, no mopeds, golf carts and all that. I would assume that would include couch cars. Yeah. But if they don't specify it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:30 Can you just take it on out there? Yeah. I mean, we probably have more open rules than some places about it. Okay. So we need to do our. We need to pick. We've got to pick a money line parlay for Draft Kings. All right.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Everything's got to be. So get on your little app there. Look at the games tomorrow. Why are you staring at me? I left my phone at home. I can't get on my app. What do you mean you left your phone at home? I was so excited to come in here today.
Starting point is 00:47:00 I'd got to left the house. He just had a look at me, Shannon, like. I can't get on my phone. He didn't. He just was staring at me mouth agape. I asked him to do that. How do you leave a phone? Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:14 So you can't, you're basically saying you can't participate in this game. Okay. All right. It's probably for the better. We'll deal with you during the break, okay? We'll try to, well,
Starting point is 00:47:26 actually, everybody's going to pick one. I'll tell you what. I will go first, okay, since, since, I'm going to pick, I'm going to pick Virginia
Starting point is 00:47:40 to win at home against Coastal Carolina. I feel like I'm getting better odds because people think Coastal Carolina is good. Virginia at home. Actually, you know what? I don't want that one. Who wants to root for Virginia football?
Starting point is 00:47:55 Wisconsin plays tonight, I think. Yeah, well, we have to do Saturday. We'll figure it out a minute. Let's go to Logan. Go ahead, Logan. Who wants to pick Virginia? Hey, guys. I'm so tired of hearing about Toledo
Starting point is 00:48:09 and how good they're supposed to be. We're going to run the damn ball. McGowan and Dowdell are going to have 200 combined rushing yards. We're going to kick their ass for England all miss next week. Go cats. Appreciate it. Is that where our advantage is is just kind of running it down
Starting point is 00:48:24 their throat? Run, run, run. Hey look, we're going to pass. No, I'm just kidding. We're going to run again. That's going to be the offense tomorrow. And that's so we won't have an idea of probably a lot of these receivers, etc. We won't really know. I mean, they'll take a few shots just to get them going.
Starting point is 00:48:40 But I think this is a game and probably season where Stoops is going to get back to his old ways. And we were blessed with Benny and C. Rod there for a while. But hopefully this tandem of McGowan and Dowdell and the rest of them can be something similar. Yeah. I've got mine, by the way. I'm ready. I've got mine too.
Starting point is 00:48:55 I'm going to go Northern Illinois beats Holy Cross. Illinois had the big win last year. Yes. And Holy Cross is, they're holy. Well, that's not a negative. That's a positive. Yeah, they're very holy. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:10 So I'm going to take Northern Illinois. Shannon, who you got? Give me LSU plus four, Clemson. I like LSU on the road. Oh, you're giving a plus four on our money line. Can I not do that? Yeah. No, so are you picking LSU to win or the plus four?
Starting point is 00:49:26 Plus four. Okay, you're going to take the LSU plus four. Okay, got you. Minus one, ten odds. Okay. Well, then I guess you're not doing a money line. That's fine, though. All right, you go ahead, what you got?
Starting point is 00:49:36 I will do the Tulane money line. They are playing Northwestern in the Louisiana Heat. and I got a couple former cats on there, including the coach, we all know, so I will ride with Tulane. Tulane to win? Yeah, I guess so. They're a four-point favorite, but I'll just do the money line. Okay.
Starting point is 00:49:51 All right. Ryan, I can't play. I don't have a phone. What about Texas, Ohio State? What about Texas, Ohio State? There's no way. Ohio State loses that first game in their own stadium. No way.
Starting point is 00:50:04 All right. So you got Ohio State. So you got Ohio State. Yep. Tulane. Tulane. A couple newters there. Northern Illinois.
Starting point is 00:50:11 and he's got LSU. So those will be our winner. That's a winning ticket right there. The one that's going to lose us is at noon when Texas beats Ohio State. LSU is the night win, the other three or day games. Another three or day. All right. So it could all come down to LSU at the end.
Starting point is 00:50:28 Stephen, go ahead, Stephen. Stephen. All right, no, Stephen. Skygass man. Go ahead, Skygast man. There should be Kentucky gas man. I don't know what's this guy. Okay, Kentucky gas.
Starting point is 00:50:42 Go ahead. Go ahead. Hey, Ryan left his home at home, but he really didn't want to leave his home the phone. That's true. That's a good way. He didn't shit. He didn't leave his phone at home. It just happens.
Starting point is 00:50:56 That just happens. All right. Go ahead. I'm excited, guys, about the game tomorrow. I think Kentucky, it's going to be an offensive game both ways. I think the defensive struggle. Both teams struggle defensively. And I'm going to say cats 38 to 21.
Starting point is 00:51:12 and I also wouldn't know what you all know about the skills positions. Who's going to be our starters at skill positions tomorrow? No cats. I'll hang it. Or on all of them. I would assume Macklin, but I think the others.
Starting point is 00:51:28 Maclin and Law will be future heavily. And then who knows about the other ones? Yeah. And then you got Caddus and Rodriguez sharing tight-end duties and the running back room is a bit of a committee too. Yeah. Who knows? I think that's,
Starting point is 00:51:39 I think your guess is as good as mine. I'm switching. by the way, because Northern Illinois's odds are not good enough. I want to keep it close like y'all so we get a good payout. I'll take Tulsa over Abilene Christian. They're only a five-point favorite. That way we can actually get a payout when we do this. Abilene lost its coordinator and its star quarterback.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Exactly. That's what I'm saying. I've been scouting them during the offseason. They're not nearly as good. They scored a lot last year. Now they're hilltoppers. But did you know now Tulsa? Tubby. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Joe Kraft. Heath. Yeah. Oklahoma. The turnaround. The turnaround. Turn around. The game gets to be played on their time. That's right.
Starting point is 00:52:16 On Tulsa time. Thanks for making that clear. All right. We're going to try to go outside. Let's do it. Who knows if this is going to work? I've already been testing the connection. It's not going to work.
Starting point is 00:52:30 It doesn't work? No, but go ahead. Have fun. We're going to make it work. Okay. See how that works. Out on the streets with KSR when we come back right here on Kentucky Sports Radio, don't think this is going to work.
Starting point is 00:52:41 It hasn't worked during the breaks that I've been checking in with Billy. It's going to work. I'm telling you, don't worry about it. Be positive. Billy's it going to work. So, so good. We'll be right back. KSR.
