Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday.
September the 10th.
I'm Matt Jones.
I am in New York City, right next to the ESPN Studio.
in Seaport, where Ryan Lemon are and Drew Franklin are in Lexington.
You can give us a shout at Clark's puppet shop phone line, 859-2-80-2287.

And this is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office.
If you call T.J. He'll make them pay.
It is Wings Day at KS Bar and Grill.
Dollar wings all day and night.
If you eat in, you can't get them delivered to you.
But starting next week, Shannon, you'll be able to get Ryan Lemon delivered.
to your house.
Oh, wow.
Ryan can bring them to my house.
We're going to talk more about this tomorrow.
This is a whole game play that is certain to be a disaster, but it is something that we're
going to try next week.
But for today, Dollar Wings all day and night, Ryan is here, Drew Shannon.
Guys took a flight here yesterday.
We are two days away from South Africa.
My safari pants came in.
They did.
Okay.
Now I'm ready to go.
Yeah, I got my safari pants.
Two pairs of safari pants, and now ready for whatever's next.
So you've got your safari pants, and I've got to find you some boots up in New York
somewhere before you had on.
You know, most people come to New York City, Drew, for their boots.
That's when they want to go boot shopping, they're like, what's better than New York City?
But I actually have a place that's been recommended to me in New York that specializes in safari shoes.
Only in New York City could you get that specialization.
What are you going to go to go ahead and hit up all the stores?
I don't think it's there.
I don't know, I guess it's in the safari part of town.
I haven't looked up where it is yet.
That's Times Square.
I found a hat where I put the hat on my little safari hat,
and somebody said that aged you 15 years just putting that hat on your head.
But that's good, though, because that's what you're supposed to do.
You know, I got to go out on the open plains, go see the lion.
There's no tiger.
It's lion, rhino, hippo.
Giraff.
giraffe and buffalo
And then also they have an elephant
But that's not I think part of the big five
So Shannon those are the group
Well you'll think it's part of the big five
If you look over and there's an elephant
Standing right next to you about to squash you
I think they only have though
I was reading I read that book the elephant whisper
And I think there's only elephants
Like in certain places
Because you know if the elephants get away
Shannon that can be bad
Yeah it's not what you can do about it
Yeah so they I think they only have those in a few places
Well that's that's good and you know
you're in New York City.
If you can't find it there, then you're not going to find it anywhere.
Yeah.
Ryan Lemon, okay, so I just sprung this upon you four minutes ago.
So I'm sure you've had a lot of time to think about it.
Or have you even looked at your phone yet?
Oh, yeah.
We were curious.
Well, go ahead.
What do you mean you were curious?
Well, we didn't know if you wanted us to do football only or both sports, basketball?
I'll explain.
So, you know, we don't have a monopoly on good ideas.
Other people have good ideas, too.
And we need to recognize what other people have good ideas.
So the folks there at BBN tonight, which includes former KSR superstar employee Maggie Davis,
they've been doing this thing where they were ranking the top five, all the people that work on the show,
their top five UK moments since 2020.
But basically, Shannon, it's their top 25 moments since COVID.
Right.
Because COVID obviously was a huge disruption in all of them.
sports. And we are now
five years from it, and actually
it was starting about this time in
2020 that people tried
to get some normalcy
in their lives. So
what are the top five moments in UK sports
since 2020? So I thought, what I
would do is I'd give you my top
five, and then
I didn't give Shannon the homework because he was
on the air. So Ryan, Drew, you can give
your top five. And we'll see what
we've missed. All right. So here,
I thought this was a great idea they did. So here's
my top five. I'm going to give two honorable mentions.
Okay, these are not in my top five, but honorable mentions. Number one, when the U.K.
women's team won the SEC tournament that one year, right?
They, when they came out of that, you remember what I'm talking about?
Oh, yeah.
When they hit the shot at the buzzer, we weren't even good.
Yeah.
We went on a run with Ryan Howard, won the SEC tournament.
I remember watching those games, getting excited.
It was really the Kyra Elsie, really her only highlight during her time, but I enjoyed that.
And then the other one is the U.K.
Women's Volleyball team, Ryan, winning the national championship, right?
I mean, that was one of the first full bar moments we had after COVID.
The celebration was wild, and Kentucky gets a banner in volleyball.
Those are my two honorable mention moments.
And part of the reason I bring the second one up is Craig Skinner,
the UK volleyball coach will be on here at 10.30.
Well, he's as hot as anybody right now as far as in the volleyball world,
so you ought to be a good interview with him.
Do you agree with those spots, Drew?
I do.
I like you, including the women's game.
I'll give you Drayuna Edwards in her famous post-game interview where she was screaming on the SEC network after hitting the big three to win.
That's right.
All right.
So now let's go through my top five.
Number five, I'm going to say our series of Tennessee road wins in basketball the last three years.
Three years in a row, we went into Tennessee with seasons where we thought, well, there's no way we're winning this.
year. And then we went in one. Three years ago, it was when they first put in Antonio Reeves and
those guys into the game, and C.J. Frederick in a game that nobody thought we were going to win,
and we went on the road in one. And then two years ago, same thing. Reed Shepard and Antonio
Rees play well down there, and we win. And then this year, a rag-tag Kentucky team at the time,
with multiple guys out, and Trent Noah coming off the bench goes and gets a victory.
that literally no one thought.
I was actually in New York watching it at Madison Square Garden when it happened.
Those are my number fives.
I'm going to collectively say the last three years of Tennessee road wins.
Number four for me is going to be football 2023 against U of L, a season that seemed over.
I think there's a decent chance Mark Stoops was leaving if we lost this game.
And again, with no one thinking we would, go on the road,
Louisville, turn a season into a season where you go to a bowl game and actually get a little
momentum on the program. It didn't end up lasting. But nevertheless, it was an exciting one.
For me, number three, Florida football. We've had a couple good wins at home against Florida
football. But the one that's for me is when Wallace get the kick block, run it back. I think that's
in 2021. Probably the loudest that stadium has been since COVID. The moment where he,
He picks up the kick, runs it back, is literally top three or four.
Krogerfield explosion moment that I can remember.
That's number three.
For me, number two, is last year, Duke and Kentucky in the Champions Classic.
Another game where I don't think many of us thought we're going to win.
Cooper Flagg making his debut, Mark Pope era making their major debut,
and getting a win that I think made people, any people who were at all,
all holding out on the Mark Pope hire, I think that game put it over the top.
And that was a post game show, I believe, that ended at about 2.30 in the morning,
but with people being pretty excited.
And then number one for me, and it's not even close, is the Mark Pope press conference when he was hired.
I was on a podcast last night with these guys Rup to No Good.
and I said, I think that was the moment that BBN as an entity felt like it did when I was a kid
for the first time in a long time.
23,000 people spontaneously gather like at a tent revival in Rupp Arena and have this moment
of collective, just a collective excitement that I think will be hard to ever recreate.
And like all the great moments you couldn't plan it, it just kind of happened.
And for me, that's number one.
So those are my top five.
Ryan, Drew, what about you?
Give me go.
If you're ready, far away.
I also had an honorable mention, and it is the Duke, Duke Kentucky game.
You put it in honorable mention.
I put it an honorable mention because I'm kind of selfish with my top five that I pick.
So I think that definitely deserves me.
Because it did kind of solidify the hire of Mark Pope and kind of set them on that pass.
So that's my honorable mention.
Number five, Dane Key starts his UK football career, scoring a touchdown.
in his first four games.
People forget that.
As a freshman, his first four games,
he had a touchdown on each of the first four games.
That's number five for me.
I know it's kind of personal and selfish,
but that's number five.
Number four, Kentucky winning at Florida in 2022.
I was there with Josiah.
We flew down there.
Dane scored a touchdown and to win at the swamp
and shut them up and celebrate on their field
for the first time and maybe my lifetime.
I mean, it was.
And that was 11th.
Well, we had beaten him a few years back with Terry Wilson.
and those guys, but you weren't there.
That was the Levis Richardson battle.
Remember, that was the who's better with these guys,
and we were able to win.
All right, what's next?
Number three, I put the UK baseball team
going to the college baseball world series
for the first time in school history.
I mean, to me, being a baseball guy, that was pretty special.
That would have been higher for me.
I wasn't here.
So for me, that's a hard one to put down,
but it probably deserves to be in the top five.
I just wasn't here.
I couldn't remember, and I didn't have time to look up,
who do we beat in the Super Reuters?
regional. I know we beat like Indiana, West Virginia and the games in Lexington. Who do we
beat in the Super? That was NC State. That's right. NC State again. Okay. So, yes. What's number
two? Number two, when we beat, you mentioned this, beating Florida at home, storming the field.
That was kind of a signature moment, I think, for Stoops is maybe his biggest home win
when he beat Florida at home. So that's number two for me, because I was there with Josiah,
we stormed the field with everybody, and it was pretty cool. And then number one, I had the same
thing you did is the Mark Pope Rally when he got announced his head coach. I think that is without a
doubt the best UK moment since COVID. All right, Drew. I think mine is a lot of what you've said
in just different orders, but I'll start at the top because we all swept with Mark Pope at number
one. Didn't even have to think about it. My brain immediately went to that Sunday. Write it down
in Sharpie is my number one moment in the last five years. Then I went baseball to Omaha.
I didn't get to go to Omaha, but I was there for every moment of the run in Lexington.
That was about as much fun as I've had a Kentucky fan in a long time.
Wish I could have gone to Omaha, but it's still number two for me.
Number three, I don't think you all mention this one.
I have the Citrus Bowl win over Iowa when Juan Del broke ankles on the final drive to set up Rodriguez to punch it in.
That was the second 10-win season for Stoops, something that seemed impossible.
And that would have been my next honorable mention because I do think that's a great one.
I don't know if it'll be the last real bowl game like that that,
matters, but it did feel like it mattered a lot. That's a good one.
And the way it played out that Iowa DB had been talking trash and Juan Del just shattered his
ankles there at the goal line. Four, I have the Champions Classic Duke last year. It's only the
second time Kentucky had beaten Duke since 1998. So that one was long overdue. They had our number
for a long time. And then at number five, I don't think this was mentioned either. When Levis
ran all over Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky scored for what, 52 points. I think he
had four rushing touchdowns.
The big hurdle, they just absolutely
demolished.
Destroyed them.
That's one of the few times Mark Stoops actually ran up a score a little bit.
Maybe one of the highest scoring games Stoops has ever coached.
And then I'll throw in an honorable mention for Ryan.
He reminded me of that Florida game with the Dane touchdown.
Personally, I was on my bachelor party and I got on top of the bar.
We were losing our damn minds when Dane scored.
So it was a fun night.
There you go.
So that's our top.
five. If there's one that you forget, let me know. But shout out to BB in tonight. I like having
those memories. And, you know, one of the things, at least on the basketball side, there are no real
huge postseason moments. I'm hoping when we do this at the end of the decade, and we actually
include the entire decade, we will be able to say, because if you did this from like 2010 to
2020, most of your basketball moments are going to be in the postseason.
Football moments would have still probably been regular season, but basketball moments
would have been in the postseason.
Hopefully we'll be able to get some of those.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Was there a commercial in that segment, Shannon, about someone stealing your house?
Yeah, I didn't quite understand it, but I guess somebody could come in and just steal your
house. I didn't know that was a thing. Like, I thought that I owned my house. What does that
mean? Steal your house? I guess they somehow get the title. Physically or metaphorically?
I guess somehow they get, no, like actually take your house. They get your title, from what I
understand. I could be wrong. They take the title of your house and then they,
have the documentation that says they own the house and then you get kicked out of your house.
I'm against that. I'm against that. I'm really against that. So how do you stop that from happening?
I guess you got to call it. Yeah, I think that's it cornbread hymn.com. Promote code KSR.
Okay. Yeah. But so there was a commercial on how to stop it. Yeah. I think you got to call that 800 number and you can
keep your house. And then they'll stop it. All right. Well, I don't want to just for the record. I'm engaged. I don't, I know people don't want me to
to go into politics here.
But I'm against people stealing each other's houses.
Let me go on record as being clear about that.
Doesn't feel very neighborly.
One person writes, Matt, you didn't.
It shows your bias against non-basketball sports that you didn't even have
the college world series in your top five.
Be better.
I always love what people say be better.
That's a very condescending thing to say.
And I think that's why it makes me laugh.
I wasn't here.
So, like, I freely grant that I was,
it probably should be on the list,
but I was in, when they won the
Super Regional, I was at the first couple games.
When they won the Super Regional,
I was in transit,
and then I did see the game where they beat
NC State in Greece, but then I didn't have access
to the rest of the game. So I wasn't there, but Drew,
you had it number two, so it was clearly a big deal.
Yes, and it was Oregon State in Lexington,
NC State in Omaha.
Yeah, I watched them beat NC State
in their first college World Series.
So it was Oregon State in the Super Bowl.
Oregon State.
it was the big slide.
That was in Lexington.
That was in Lexington.
Yeah, awesome.
That's right.
We got there like two and a half hours before the game just to be ready.
Yeah.
859-280-2287.
One person writes, Matt, you all have all these moments from Pope.
You never give Cal Perry his due.
Well, I mean, but what do, what is the Cala Perry game since COVID?
I mean, I mentioned those two road wins at Tennessee that those were both him.
I considered winning at Kansas.
I almost had it instead of...
Oh, that's a good one.
Yeah, because they beat them by a lot.
They beat them like 20 in that game, right?
So there's your Calgary.
That was Oscar and Severe and what, Keon Brooks had a big game?
I think Jacob Toppin played well.
Brooks had a huge game.
Well, we were trying to think of...
I was trying to think of a Calopary game.
That's a good one, though.
That Kansas game's a good call.
And the only one other one I came up was when Reed had like 40,
a down in Ole Miss or something on the road.
It was like, you know, just something to think of what exciting moment.
Reed or Reeves?
Reeves had
But didn't Reeves have like
45 at Arkansas or something?
At that game in Arkansas
Yeah
Yeah
There's also when they won at Auburn as a big underdog
And Cal did the
Oh look at everybody's here to see me lose
Because they won that big game
And then I think they lost the next week
But that was a big win
I do kind of miss Cal when he does
Kind of stuff like that guy always made me laugh
You miss the swaggy cow
Swaggy Cow yeah
I missed that.
Yeah, 859, 2807.
If you have one, throw it in there.
Let's talk for just a second about Drew the UK practice facility.
So Mitch talked to the press yesterday while we were on the show.
So I didn't see these quotes until after the show about the UK health care and the basketball arena.
And for me, just from what I've heard, and this is just my opinion, I think the basketball practice facility,
with UK healthcare seems like a win-win for everybody.
You know, UK health care, I think, is going to end up taking most of the costs,
not all, but most.
It'll be, it's going to be a good advertisement for them.
I mean, the idea, I'm sure, for them is,
hey, you need some sort of medical procedure done on you
when you tear your ACL with Shannon playing pickleball,
come to the UK health care facility,
and oh, by the way, you're going to be next door to the practice facility.
Right?
I mean, I think that's what people are going to.
Don't you think that's the big of it?
this idea of it.
And I would think people would do that.
I totally understand that.
Mitch also then said it's part of a greater plan for that whole entertainment district.
Now, I'm on record as being a little skeptical that's going to work.
I mean, he says he wants to create an area like the area in Milwaukee around the arena
where Drew and I, and Ryan, you were there too for the basketball tournament, right?
Yep.
And then around Indianapolis for their basketball.
arena. He wants to do that basically on campus between Memorial Coliseum and Kroger Field.
And there's a lot of things in the way to me. I mean, one would be, Drew, that there's a lot of
campuses there. Are you just going to get rid of all that? You know, that's a lot of the campus.
The second thing is there's a difference between like a downtown area. And I don't know whether to what
extent on your college campus you want citizens just walking up and down shop.
I mean, I don't know if you really, do you really want to turn your college campus into a
commercial district?
I'm not sure that that's, I don't know.
What do you think about that?
I'm with you.
I'm having a hard time picturing it.
And the examples you give, those are major cities with a lot around there where it's not
just the games.
I mean, there's stuff going on all the time where people would go use those.
I don't see how that would work in the middle of UK's campus.
are we just going to throw up a big Dave and Busters there?
Like I'm having a hard time picturing what they're trying to do.
How much stuff is there?
I mean, are you just tearing down those school buildings?
I mean, there's a lot of stuff.
If you're, I mean, I think the thought process is from where the old baseball stadium is
until up into Memorial, some way you would have a commercial hotel restaurant path.
But, A, I just don't know where you would put it there.
And they didn't give any plans as to where you would put it.
But B, I don't know, Shannon, if you want everyone walking that campus at night, do you?
Probably not.
And I'm not as familiar with the setup as you guys are.
But it doesn't seem like that would be an area that you would want a lot of people going through.
Now, he said he was acknowledged.
He goes, it's a place for us to have a better basketball facility and to raise revenue.
I mean, it's clear that they are getting into the business of, we are now an entertainment entity,
and so we have to, like, get into a lot of other stuff outside of just the sports.
And I'm sure he probably does have to do that.
I mean, I think doing this downtown would make a lot of sense.
I don't know if doing it right there will make sense.
But I do think, Ryan, the part about the basketball facility will be good for everybody involved.
Yeah, we all know these cities that have done.
done this in a downtown setting close to an arena, bars, restaurants, hotels, all kind of together.
I'm kind of with Drew.
I'm having a hard time kind of picturing this area they're talking about over there on campus.
I mean, what's going to drive you out there on a non-game day?
You know, in game days, I'm sure they're killer.
Are we just going to tear that down to you?
You're going right around the library, dorms.
I think they're just going to say, you know what, why do we even need this library anymore?
That is the Dave and Bustler.
It's already there.
You just get rid of the library, making a David Busters.
William T. and Busters.
Build it now.
And like Ryan said, what does this look like on a Monday night in June?
What drives people out there?
That's part of town.
There's nothing there.
Well, I mean, that's something, you know, that part, the thing about the campus area is from May to September, it's empty.
Like, that area is empty.
You can walk down, Euclid, on a July 9th.
and like you could play football in the middle of the street.
Like nobody's there.
And I just think that I don't know how that works.
At the same time, though, you know, Mitch was almost hinting that if they don't do that,
it's hard to get this facility.
So, I mean, it kind of feels like it's one of those things that's going to happen.
He says it's six months before they even announce a prospective plan.
It sounds like they're going to create a plan, Shannon, to make a plan.
Yeah.
So we'll see what the plan is.
is.
Concepts of the plan.
It's a concept of a plan, and we'll see if that ends up happening.
Craig Skinner will join us, and a lot of goofy stuff in the second hours, KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
UK volleyball coach and, I guess, take on the world.
Bring it on.
If you're in the top five, top seven, Craig Skinner will say, come on, we'll play you.
He joins us here on the radio.
Craig, I didn't analyze your schedule before the season, but now every weekend I turn it on.
You're going to be on national TV.
You're playing another top team.
I'm sure that was on purpose.
What was the reasoning?
A little insanity, but I'll, like I said, a couple weeks ago, I'll take 50% of the credit.
We always want to schedule tough.
But when you get invited to neutral side events promoted by other people,
and it's a nationally televised event, you can't say no.
And so, you know, like this one is the ACC, SEC, SEC challenge,
and the Nebraska match was a Nashville Sports Council.
And so ended up and didn't realize it to some point out
that we're playing all final four teams from last year.
So here we go.
Yeah, and I mean, you beat Penn State, the defending national champ.
You had Nebraska two sets to zero.
and now you're going to play Pitt.
Let me ask you about, let's just go those in order.
Nebraska, you're up to zero.
I mean, everybody knows Nebraska is the power historically in volleyball,
especially in recent years.
I mean, did you think you had a team that would come out that good
against a crowd that was mostly Nebraska fans and packed?
Like, I mean, that had to make you happy about your team.
And then why don't you think you were able to finish it off at the end?
Yeah, great question.
I mean, I didn't know.
you never really know you're playing against yourself in preseason and we played one match
Nebraska had played three up to that point.
You know, I never really knew.
I knew we had two outside hitters and Eva Hudson and Brooklyn delay that you're always
going to have a chance in matches if you have two people in that position that can terminate
like they do.
So I think we came out hot.
I think we put them on their heels and then, you know, they started to figure out what our
system was and got the right people in the right places.
and we didn't adjust quick enough at the end and had some chances in the fourth set.
And, you know, but I think it gave our team some confidence knowing that can compete with anybody.
But, you know, tonight would be another test.
And, you know, we're just a friend of mine just texted me earlier and said we were on a benching this morning.
We're trying to get one of those so we can get in the top five.
So.
Well, and you still have Louisville, right?
That's another.
I mean, your schedule's crazy because you're still going to play Louisville.
Then you're going to have, I guess Texas is in the top 10 in the S.
So you're going to end up in the, I guess what?
Florida's just outside of it.
You could end up with six, what, six games against teams in the top ten this year?
We have fit tonight.
Then we have SMU on Saturday at home at three o'clock.
They just beat Texas A&M, who's top ten, swept them.
Then we have Houston.
Then we have Louisville.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy, to be honest with you.
You know, the thing about, I think this team is we have a bunch of alpha competitors
and they do not want to have any part of losing.
And so I think that, you know,
we're going to give ourselves a chance each match.
It's just closing the deal when you need to.
And so, you know, I definitely want to go into battle with this group of people.
Brooklyn, she's good.
What's her like, Lelay?
Is that right?
Delay.
Delay.
She's going to be Ryan with you guys at Clark's Puppet Shop Friday, right?
Yeah, I believe Brooklyn's coming in.
Molly, is it Tuozo, coach?
They're both two of them going to be there, I think.
Tuzo, Tuzzo.
You have to forgive us.
I mean, collectively, our pronunciations, you listen to this show.
You know, I mean, we don't get, we don't get anybody's name right.
But they both, they, I watched the third set.
Maybe I was the jinx, the third set to the Nebraska game.
And you mentioned how hard, well, they were hitting two.
You have some, again, I don't know these positions, but where you, the spiker, I'll just say that.
It feels like how many players have you had that's hit as hard as they do?
do you mentioned that a minute ago you're not very many i mean they they are definitely at the top of the
list and we've had several that you know that can you know hit with the same velocity but it's
consistent it's with range um it's very low air you got some kids that blast the ball that you never
know exactly where it's going so these guys have a good idea where it's going and they can put heat
on it but they can also throw you know like a pitcher in baseball they can throw a change up
and drop it in you know where the defenders aren't so they got some variety in their game
and got a lot of tools in their box and, you know, fun to watch.
And, again, you want them in your foxhole.
When this whole NIL thing started, I think my guess is, you tell me if I'm wrong about this,
but my guess is coaches in sports like volleyball had to sit here and think, okay,
where are we going to be on the university priority list?
Because I sort of said at the time, I think universities are all going to have to choose
to commit to football, and then they'll get to pick a couple other sports,
and then some of the others it may be who knows how did you think it was going to go and how is
UK volleyball set up in this new NIL rev share era yeah you'd never know exactly you know
where you're going to end up and you know I don't envy the position that ADs are in I mean
it's like ultimately you're picking children in terms of how you want to prioritize you know what
the athletic department looks like I mean we have always been taking
taken care of by Mitch and our administration. We've always been put in position to recruit the best players. And this is no different. And we've have great classes in 25, another one in 26. And even, you know, we've worked it on 2027. So, you know, we've always been supported. We've always had the chance to compete for SEC and national championships. And, you know, of course, you know, we have to adapt as coaches. I mean, it's, it's ridiculous how much we've had to adapt in the last five or six years, not just the game itself, which you all.
always have to, but the climate and landscape.
And so, you know, not everyone's making a million dollars, but you've got to make sure
that every player on your roster feels valued.
And do you think Kentucky volleyball is set up to do that going forward?
Yes.
Well, there you go.
That's how I like the way.
I think the start, first of all, I like the quiet confidence there, Drew.
You can hear it in his voice, didn't you?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I love that.
You were getting fired up, by the way, in that game in Nashville.
the announcers were noting that you've got that fire in your belly.
I think that's fun to why.
That's a big part of how you coach, isn't it?
You know, some people say have some fire, some people I'm too calm.
I mean, you know, it's, I think the biggest thing for me is you've got to allow your players to play free inside the lines.
If they're paying attention to me, then their attention is in the wrong place.
And so there's definitely a time and need for some fire and some choice words.
And we'll certainly deliver that what it's needed.
But between the lines.
If they haven't learned, we haven't taught in practice.
So it's their moment to get out there and do things.
And if some intensity level is needed, we'll make sure we provide something.
It is UK and Pitt tonight, 630 on ESPN.
It's a doubleheader.
Louisville plays after us.
It's in Fort Worth, top seven matchup, Kentucky number three in the country.
Craig, great start to the season.
Good luck.
And I'm sure we'll be talking to you later as the year goes on.
I appreciate you, guys.
Have a great day.
There you go.
Tonight, ESPN.
I know what you're going to be doing tonight, Ryan, right?
I'm telling you, man, it's exciting to watch.
They've made a lot of volleyball fans out of a lot of a UK fans
just because you get kind of addicted to it.
It's so exciting and fun and fast-paced, and they're so good.
I like volleyball, Shannon, because people clap after every play.
It's got to be the most positive affirming sport.
Oh, you don't clap after every play in football?
No, no.
No, I'm saying like the girls on the volleyball team, both teams.
whether you score or not, they give each other a high five.
Is there any sport where people are more positive, Shannon, than that one?
They're so positive no matter what.
Probably not.
And it's kind of akin to like when a guy misses a free throw and they still go up and give them a high five.
Like, don't give me a high five.
I just missed a free throw.
But imagine in basketball if you did that after every play.
Throw the ball out of bounds and you get to a little huddle and give each other a high five.
You know what?
It's okay.
We're still doing it.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Shannon, tell everyone what you said to me during the break.
I told Matt that he's great at interviewing people about things he has no idea about.
It's clear he has no idea about volleyball, but he navigated the interview well.
So I was getting you a compliment.
What do you mean I have no idea about football?
What did I say?
I had no idea about volleyball.
Well, you know, the one, the spiker.
The spiker.
That's what they go by, don't they?
Drew, don't they go by the spiker?
on KSR they do
That was the quote
The the Spiker
What would you have said
Smarty Pants
I told you I wouldn't have known what to ask them
Hey what's the what's the correct term
I know the one
Outside hitter
Inside hitter
They don't call a setter
No I don't call them a spiker
No they called the Laredo
See
The Laredo
The Laredo is that the one
Labero
There's a there you go
There go
Listen, I think you did a good job because my ad-a news director told me, no, just enough to fake it.
And I think you faked it okay.
Well, I don't wasn't faking it.
I'm saying, like, I bet you most people at home, Shannon think they're the spiker, right?
Sure.
No, I was giving you a compliment.
It wasn't a dig.
The libriro.
Libero, right?
Libero.
Libero.
They wear a different jersey.
Their defense.
She's good.
I understand.
I'm a fan. I'm a fan of hers.
Anyway, if I'm not 228022, I have to make fun of one of my friends here, Shannon.
Bourbon and Beyond starts what, tomorrow?
Yeah, that's right.
Is that right?
That's right.
I looked at it.
A lot of 90s bands.
You got the spin doctors, blues traveler, collective soul, the goo-goo dolls.
Yeah.
Third-eye blind.
Wait, the blonde melon's coming?
Yeah.
Hasn't that guy been dead for 35 years?
He has, but, you know, they get other singers and they move on.
Yeah, that happens in me.
So who are the big ones? You've got Sturgle.
Yep. Who else?
Jack White.
Okay. Noah Khan.
Noah Khan. The Luminaires.
Oh, I like the Luminere.
Benson Boone, isn't that right?
Yeah.
He's the guy that does backflips.
I'm going for Benson Boone. I've never been.
Oh, you're going?
First Bourbon and Beyond.
I'm going for Benson Boone and the Luminers.
Why? You like to wear those suits?
That back flip he did at the Grammys is still one of the coolest.
front flip up. It's still one the coolest things I've ever seen.
Hoping he does a front flip.
And then the biggest one,
okay.
Go ahead.
No, no, the biggest one is fish and they get like,
they get like three and a half hours because they just jam straight.
I know, but that's just because they're all on drugs.
I mean, everybody's like, if, like,
I mean,
that's their fans, right?
They're all just going to be running around.
Am I wrong?
You agree with me.
I mean, probably.
I don't mean the band.
I'm just talking about the people who, like, isn't that right?
Yeah, I mean, you know, if you did a drug test there,
you would probably strike gold.
But yeah, they get three hours.
I thought that was what they were known for.
You're acting like I'm saying something controversial?
I didn't.
No, I'm not acting like anything.
But, uh,
all right.
So our mayor,
as you know,
my co-owner at OVW,
Craig Greenberg,
I want everybody real quick.
We're going to take a call.
And while you do that,
I just want you to go to his Twitter account.
Okay.
Louisville mayor.
It's a video.
Don't even watch the video.
Just pull the video up and then pause it when the camera is on him.
Because I need to talk about this,
but I need you all to see it while I'm talking about it.
So pull up Louisville-Mayer Twitter account, the video he just did with, I guess,
Danny Wimmer, I guess that's the bourbon of a guy.
Pull that up, and while you're doing it, I'll take a call.
Who's next?
Okay, Crypto Cowboy.
Crypto Cowboy.
How are you?
Good, how are you, Matt?
Good morning.
I'm doing well.
I wanted to just, good, thanks for asking.
I wanted to quickly discuss your upcoming trip to South Africa.
Here's back when I was in college, I went on a 22-day-long missions trip.
to South Africa.
And we flew out of Atlanta nonstop into Johannesburg.
And then we spent a week in Cape Town.
And then we ended in Durban, which, by the way, I don't know if that's where you're
snorkeling.
But that is the, on the Indian Ocean, Durban is.
And that is the shark capital.
Yeah, I don't think I'm going there.
I don't think that's where I'm going.
I got you.
So I wanted to ask, you said your flight was 15 hours.
Yeah.
I remember my flight from Atlanta being substantially longer than 15.
hours.
I got a faster plane.
I got a faster plane.
I got you.
I was curious about that because that flight was brutal for us.
And hours was closer to 19 or 20 hours.
I remember.
Yeah.
I got a faster plane.
I asked them to go faster.
Get in the jet stream.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
You got to understand the jet stream and the curvature of the ocean and the land.
And I think that's why.
I think you have some clouds or bandwidth or something.
Yeah, I think it's like 15 hours and 40 minutes maybe, something like that.
Oh, man.
I'm glad.
you bought the first class ticket.
Your big long legs will definitely appreciate that.
Well, thank you, sir.
And I appreciate you listening.
And, yeah.
Enjoy your trip.
We did go to a place called Shaka Land.
And our tour guide told us, again, it was a missions trip.
One out of every two people at Shaka Land at HIV.
So it was very interesting.
So antibacterial.
Well, I appreciate the call.
All right.
So are you looking at the thing there of Craig?
Yes.
Yeah, I got it.
Okay, so you know I love Craig.
I think he's been a good mayor.
But why is he wearing an affliction t-shirt?
You don't like that old English font?
No, first of all, I know it's the South End, like that's the South End of Louisville.
Yeah.
But the Craig I know, Shannon, wears suits, right?
He's like, you know that, Craig.
Yeah, right?
Always got a collared shirt.
But he's a politician.
He's trying to appeal to, you know, people who are going to bourbon and beyond.
shirt, Shannon. Come on.
Craig is not an affliction shirt guy.
If I showed up at Bourbon and Beyond,
and I had that shirt on,
you would make fun of me.
Am I right?
Of course I would.
Yeah.
I would love to see him.
Craig is a lot more, like,
look, that's like Donald Trump showing up in that shirt.
Is it not?
Drew, you know what I'm talking about.
It's not a Craig T-shirt.
No, that's that, but he's at a rock concert.
He's dressed for the event.
He's not at a meeting.
You dress like you just wear, like I could show up in a mega death t-shirt.
I mean, where else would you wear a mega-death t-shirt?
I don't have one.
Now, if he wore that to give a speech downtown about a new business coming to Kentucky,
that'd be a little weird.
But I think he's just trying to fit in with the atmosphere.
That's for the occasion.
Black T-shirt and jeans.
So you would want your politician to wear the clothes of where they go, no matter where they go.
So if he goes to a rap concert, he should dress like Snoop.
Yeah, gold chains hanging off his neck.
Yeah.
I'm surprised.
I thought you both would say just be proud of who yourself is, but you're saying blend in.
Wear the affliction t-shirt.
I like it.
I think he looks good.
Trying to fit in.
He's got his jeans on.
I'll take the eye.
I think I'm more right to you.
I don't think you're being nice because you love Craig.
and so do we.
But if Linda Gorton showed up at Bourbon and Beyond and that, you'd be good with.
Oh, I'd buy her a tall beer and we'd get in the Mosh Pit.
I'd love.
What would you wear to Bourbon and Beyond?
I need to know.
I don't know what to wear.
Am I not allowed to wear my affliction shirt?
Part of the reason I don't go is I wouldn't know what to wear.
A hoodie and a shorts.
I would probably wear some form of a long sleeve hoodie, t-shirt, and shorts.
I'd probably wear jeans since it's like a condo.
but I can tell you I would not pull out an affliction t-shirt.
He is wearing some dad tennis shoes and dad jeans with his affliction t-shirt.
But he's just, he's trying.
He's rocking.
All right, that's fine.
He's got Shannon's approval.
Shannon's the expert out there at larger than life.
Who's next?
Sam.
Sam, go ahead, Sam.
Hey, Matt, I agree with you.
I always thought they were called Power Strikers anyway.
Second thing is, my daughter does a lot of those, my daughter does a lot of those trips with her friends and stuff.
And about two years ago she was in Zimbabwe for a safari.
She calls me and we video text, and she's woke up in the middle of night because they're camping and during the overnight.
And there's like 100 zebras outside the tents.
And they're making a lot of noise with gas and other things.
You know, just being the kind of the man you are, are you comfortable sleeping in a tent with 100 zebras around you?
No, but you know what?
Part of it is like getting out of your comfort zone.
You know, you only live once.
So, I mean, I appreciate the call.
There's a big world.
I'm blessed enough to get a chance to do it.
I mean, would I just choose on my own to go to South Africa during football season?
Probably not.
But then this fellowship came.
This is where the meeting is.
Originally, it was supposed to be in Israel.
I'd rather go to South Africa right now than Israel.
So, you know, so I'm going.
And it'll be odd because I don't know.
I'll probably never go there again.
So we might as well, you know, I'm a big believer, whatever it is.
Like, as long as you're not hurting anybody, give it a shot.
We only are around this place one time.
It's a huge world out there.
And most people don't get a chance to do any of it.
So if you can, you should.
And if I end up having to hang out with a zebra, then Ryan, I'll hang out with a zebra.
I don't know.
I'll put on my stripes.
We'll race.
I'll take it ambient and tell him I can beat him on a spring.
Why not?
You've got 10 of the ladies to protect you when you're there in that area in your tent.
Yeah, their group chat's very chatty.
Shannon, the group chat's very chatty.
Do you chime in every now and then?
I don't chime in.
I don't chime in.
They're very upset because one person hasn't joined the group chat.
And I'm like, can you just let them be?
We don't even know each other yet.
There may be a little chatty for me in the group chat.
We'll be right back hour too.
