Starting point is 00:04:38 Stephen Peaks even sitting over here. You guys getting ready for your big podcast tonight. Sources A podcast with Jeff Goodman and Rob Doster. One question I wanted to ask the guys, but we really didn't have enough time. Who else in the SEC do they expect? So I'll ask you, who do you expect? And else in the SEC to compete with Kentucky for the title this year? Yeah, I think Florida, obviously, with the coming off a national championship,
Starting point is 00:05:00 Brent so obviously you know they they own the crown for for right now they rebuilt in a really strong way a lot of kind of question marks boogie flan kind of leading the charge replacing a walter clayton junior who was a once in a lifetime kind of you know march madness run very you know up there with the kemba walkers so like they're replacing quite a bit of talent but they definitely belong in the conversation Arkansas definitely belongs in the conversation i think they they built that roster pretty well and it's you know a very typical john caliperi roster so a lot of You know, really, you know, Tennessee, they'll be top 10 team, but I have some questions about them. So a lot of, you know, who is going to compete with Kentucky?
Starting point is 00:05:38 I think Kentucky is the start of the conversation, and then everybody else is kind of well. I like this about this team, and this team does some interesting things. But I think the SEC is going to run through Kentucky this year. So the whole makeup of the roster, the one thing that made me scratch my head a little bit, how did they get Denzo Aberdeen to leave a national championship, knowing he was going to be a big part of what Florida was corner probably due this season, How did they get him and convince him to come to Kentucky where maybe he's going to have to compete for a spot? Because money's awesome, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:06:07 I don't know if you would agree with that. I don't make any money, so I have not aware of such things. Money can be really cool for some people, and I think it was really cool for Denzel Aberdeen. No, and I think a part of it is when you are the six-man of a national championship roster and you compete and play a specific role, and you have the two guys, three guys ahead of you, that, you know, deserve that role before you, you kind of expect to step in and kind of take that role and the money that probably comes with it. So when you're at the negotiating table and you go, all right, my time to shine, right? And Todd Golden goes, you know, how about this much in the same
Starting point is 00:06:48 role that you had the year before? And it's like, well, that's not necessarily what I was kind of hoping. So I think that was definitely, it was a, hey, if we're not seeing eye to eye on role and money, especially the championship boost that comes with, you know, hey, I have a ring on my finger, pay me accordingly. I think that just kind of rub them the wrong way. It wasn't all about the money, but it kind of put a sour taste in their mouth to lead them to say, all right, well, then let's explore our other options in Kentucky,
Starting point is 00:07:16 obviously an unbelievable option for the Aberdeen family. So do you think, do you foresee Loa Otega and Aberdeen starting at the one, two, and three most of the season? Are they locked in? I would not say Aberdeen is locked in. I would say low is the absolute guarantee. Otega is the absolute guarantee. And I think Aberdeen maybe will start the year there,
Starting point is 00:07:35 but I think Colin Chandler has something to say about that at the two. I think they can get pretty creative at that spot, you know, knowing that Denzel Aberdeen is your only backup point guard option before disaster strikes the way we had. Amari Williams bringing the ball up the floor and things like that last year. He is your kind of go-to guy. So you kind of got to save him a little bit and kind of keep those legs fresh and staggered their minutes the way they kind of hoped Lamont and Kirkriza would stagger their
Starting point is 00:08:01 minutes before Kerr went down. I could see a similar scenario where he's off the bench, but he plays starter-level minutes. You mentioned Colin Chandler. Out of the info that's kind of leaked out from these early practices, he seems to be getting a lot of the praise. A lot of people talking about him. You expect a big jump from him? So a fun backstory of the Colin Chandler experience.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Right when Travis announced that he was hitting the portal, we were waiting on Trent Noah, you know, Trent Noah announced he's coming back. I get a phone call from somebody very close to Colin Chandler's circle, and I was kind of thinking, well, now is the time that I would be getting a phone call to say, hey, I'm going to the portal. Can you put that out there? And so I got the phone call, and I was like, oh, man, I was really getting excited for Colin Chandler. Pick up the phone, yeah, what's going on?
Starting point is 00:08:52 No, just checking in, seeing how things are going. So you're not going to the portal? Colin's not going? No, why do we go into the portal? Colin is making a push for the starting job next year. We're not going anywhere. And it was like, oh, all right, this is a good phone call. This is a, let's talk about how big Colin Chandler's sophomore season can be at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:09:12 So I thought that was just a very cool. You know, they came in hungry. Being healthy was a big part of it last year, you know, had the hamstring thing and went down and missed so much time of the summer. and he was just coming off the two years away from the sport. That it just, that was just a big trial, you know, seeing what happens in year one. Now he has been healthy. It was out for just a little bit of time, but mostly healthy. And, you know, we can kind of see, you know, the end of his first year playing as well as he did in March Madness,
Starting point is 00:09:42 translating into year two picking up right where he left off. So where will Colin Chandler's minutes come from? Back up at the point at low or back up Otega at the two. Where will you see him contributing the most on the floor? I think it'll be the two-spot, Otega slide into the three and him kind of fit in that two-spot. And I'm not guaranteeing he's starting. I think, you know, what's funny is this time last year was actually where Otega became Otega. True.
Starting point is 00:10:03 You heard rumblings that Otega was just solid at this stage that last summer transitioning into the fall. And then it was September where Otega was like, well, he might be our best player. So we're still kind of waiting and seeing to see who emerges at that go-to-two spot. but I think he'll do some backup point guard duties, but definitely manning the main two spot. So who's the backup point guard? Aberdeen. Wow.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Yeah. But Aberdeen's playing alongside Colin Chandler and those two kind of feeding off of each other with minutes as well. So it's going to be, we have 12 moving parts to work with here. So you're going to see, well, Aberdeen plays, you know, some one, some two, Otega slides up to. the two, it's going to be some mixing and matching to make all of these parts work. So where does Jasper Johnson fit in in the equation?
Starting point is 00:10:58 We'll see how these next couple of weeks go before the season starts, but I would probably put him behind Colin Chandler, that two, two, three spot. I think Jasper's looking at, you know, eighth man in the rotation right now. I think it was Jeff Goodman who mentioned Diabate. He was kind of excited about him. is he because you hear like he's a good leader he's kind of taking over the leadership role off the court
Starting point is 00:11:24 like Jay and Lowe Jaylon Lowe may be the leader on the court but Diabate may be the leader off the court how do you see his role this year then well this summer he was you know garden ones garden twos sliding down garden fives he is the the Swiss army knife
Starting point is 00:11:39 that you just say hey we need a stop here go get a stop go get a so I think he'll start at the four again I have really I'm probably higher on Andrea Yellovich than most I think Yeovic will end up starting going into March Madness at the 4. I do. I think it'll be the front.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Thank you for saying that because I said that on this show and I got chastised by some of my coworkers. I think your starting front court will be Yellovich at the 4 and Quaintance at the 5 going into March Madness. Up to that point, you're going to see a lot of Modiabate at the 4. But again, he's he is the energizer bunny. He is the, hey, whatever we need, he can fill that role. So he's going to wear a lot of different hats. So I wouldn't even necessarily just say he's your go-to-four guy. I think there are going to be times that he's playing up at the three,
Starting point is 00:12:26 may slide down and play some small ball five in spot minutes. Definitely not a consistent. But he's going to have a big role for this year, but just don't put him into one little bucket. So you know, everybody in the 13th region, there's only want me to ask you then, so what is Trent Noah's role? You know, because the word is he's really improved by,
Starting point is 00:12:47 leaps and bounds. When they played the TBT team, the TBT guys were talking about him more than anybody as far as what he did in that scrimmage game. He is a guy that I heard just insane things about his shooting ability. And I think if you're thinking who is going to be the go-to catch-and-shoot guy on the team, Kim Williams was brought in to be that guy, but I think Trent Noah has just did so much over the summer to really just kind of like, well, we're going to have to play you because he just makes the right plays. he always has a nose for the basketball, you know, getting effort for loose balls and, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:20 crashing the glass. He just does a lot of the little things that I think we're at a point where it's like, you know, any other year, Trent probably is out of the rotation. But because of how hard he's worked and the production he's found over the, over the course of the summer, again, building off of a strong freshman year when nobody really expected him to have the role that he ended up having.
Starting point is 00:13:41 I think he's going to be in that rotation. I don't know how high in the rotation, but he's going to be in there. He earned his minutes last year. Every time he got on the floor, it seemed to provide a spark. He'd be getting a loose ball or knocking a ball away or getting a rebound or something. He brings that element that I think coming off the bench can give you a good weapon. Yeah, I think, you know, Trent, like I said, all of the little things that he does.
Starting point is 00:14:04 It was just, oh, we need a tough rebound right now. And Trent always was kind of the guy that got it. We need a big three right now. Down in Knoxville, just pick your poison. He always seemed to step up in those big moments. All right, our phone lines will be open. 859-2-80-2-8-8-7. That's 8-5-9-2-8-0-Kats.
Starting point is 00:14:19 That's the Clark's Pubbyschop phone number. If you've got a question for Jack Pilgrim, talking a lot of basketball today. We will touch on a little football coming up. We come back. The kickoff time was set for the South Carolina game, 745. So it's a night game down there at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Crazy atmosphere. Night game will make it even crazier down there. That's coming up in two weeks. So we'll take our break, come back. Go back to the phone lines. Ryan, Shannon and Jack Pilgrim, when we come back on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown,

Shady Raise, and we're there October 3rd. I believe that's Matt's return to the airwaves when we do a show on October 3rd, Shannon. All right, looking forward to it. I also heard that we bring in Richie on KSR.
Starting point is 00:19:09 He told me that this morning. He is. I believe it's the 30th. The 30th. I think September 30th is the day that Richie and Buck are going to co-post the show. Richie and Buck. I didn't mean to undercut you by having Richie on the pre-show this morning. I kind of felt bad about it.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Not really. But I had him on there. I didn't know he was going to be on the 30th on KSR. So looking forward to that. One of the big national headlines this morning was that Robert Redford passed away. 89 years old. Of course, my favorite Robert Redford movies, The Natural. I think it's one of the best movies ever made.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Do you guys have a Robert Redford? favorite what Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid I think was his movie. Didn't we talk about how old I was to start the show, Ryan? I believe you were like 14 years old. No, I can't say that I have a favorite. I'm looking them up right now. Captain America, the Winter Soldier. That was a good one.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Didn't see that one. And that's Charlotte's Web in 06. I think he mailed that role. Avengers Endgame. I think he was awesome in that one. So yeah, we're going to Avengers End game. Shannon, do you have one? I've got to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:20:13 I didn't know that was even a name until you said it. So rest in peace, sir, no disrespect. You don't know who Robert Redford is? No, I don't. Are you kidding me? How old is he? He was 89. But you saw the natural probably, didn't you?
Starting point is 00:20:27 Yeah. Roy Hobbs? He was Roy Hobbs, the natural. Okay. Hit the home run, and of course, then all the fireworks went off when he hit the light stand. What year did that come out? It was like maybe in the late 80s, early 90s, somewhere in there. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Well, Jack wasn't born, and I was probably five. Actually, I did lie. A River runs through it. I watched that movie often with my dad. That was one of our favorite father-son movies as a kid. So River Runs Through It is my favorite. The Great Gatsby, I think, was a Robert Redford movie. Does that ring a bell?
Starting point is 00:20:57 With DiCaprio? No. Yeah, the one that came out in 1940, Jack. All right, 859-280-287. That's our Clark's Pumby Shop phone number. If you want to call and get on board, we've been talking a lot of UK basketball. But I do want to switch to football for just a minute. Last night, Mark Stoops set out his coaches show, so we had Bush Hamden on.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Josh Caddus was on. They talked a lot about the offense, kind of improving with Cutter Bowley. Jack, what was your take on the Cutter Bowley era getting underway last Saturday over at Croger Field? Two weeks too late. I feel like if you're going to invest in the youth movement, why waste our time in the first two weeks and not invest in the future? I think when you bring in a guy like Zach Calzada, you expect him to have the poise and the leadership qualities of a seventh-year veteran. And for him to kind of have the same nerves and have the, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:54 wishy-washiness that you would expect of a redshirt freshman the way Cutter, you know, should be playing at his age. And for Cutter to have that poise again, Eastern Michigan is Eastern Michigan. But to have that poise and go in and, you know, play as well as he did, I just think it was a missed opportunity. I think now is absolutely the time to move forward with Cutter. I think he's the guy. Shannon, and then one thing did come up,
Starting point is 00:22:15 they were talking about his favorite targets being Josh Caddiss and Willie Rodriguez. They're just having me Cutter's roommates. So I think the secret is, if you're your roommate, you're going to get fed. Of course. Yeah, it's like, you know, your buddy, you can't just leave them hanging out to drive. So you've got to target them. But I think Cutter is the guy moving forward. I feel like this is his job to lose.
Starting point is 00:22:36 We'll see what happens against South Carolina. I feel like that's a game they can get. In listening to the guys last night on the call-in show, Caddus was talking and Tom Leach asked just, you know, hey, what is it about the tight ends finally getting the ball? It feels like the entire Vince Mero era, we spent all of our time going, why are we not targeting the tight ends?
Starting point is 00:22:55 Why are they not passing them the ball? And I kind of thought Cadiz's answer was a little, I don't want to say it was a shot at Vince, but it was definitely went above and beyond to praise the new guy Derek Shea leading the charge saying that, you know, he is in a person who said that in our private huddles of just the tight ends, that he'll, like, start crying. The new tight ends coach will start crying and just being like, guys, I'm so grateful to be here.
Starting point is 00:23:20 I'm so invested. I'm so emotional for you guys for us to get this opportunity together. And he said that the tight, cat has said the tight ends want to play for him. It was this like, you know, this is a guy that we root for that we're playing for. So it wasn't a shot at Vince, but it was definitely, hey, we have something to play for with this new guy in. I thought that was kind of interesting. It's definitely a shift in focus when your leading receivers are your tight ends. And your two passing touchdowns that cut her through, one to Willie Rodriguez, one to Josh Katas,
Starting point is 00:23:49 and he threw a third one to the Boyer Kid, another tight end that got called back. I don't know if I ever would have seen the day where a Kentucky quarterback would throw three touchdown passes to three different tight ends. It just wouldn't happen. Name, what do you think the career high is for any tight end in terms of receiving yards under Mark Stoops? Under Mark Stoops. Wow. It can't be much. Who is it?
Starting point is 00:24:12 C.J. Conrad? What do you think his season high for receiving yards was? Receiving yards, I'll say, 250. 318 yards on 30 catches. Josh Caddice is on pace to shatter that with 448 yards, and Willie Rodriguez is on pace for 272. Well, Shannon, Josh Caddust made some great catches last weekend, like some aerobatic catches that's going to get him in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:24:38 I'm just glad that they're targeting the tight ends. I mean, for years, that's been our gripe of why aren't we not incorporating the tight-in position into the passing game, and we haven't really had that. So it's kind of refreshing to see, but, you know, it would be nice to throw to our receivers as well. We've had some issues with them, I think, just getting open. I think that's been a big problem this year. You're right, Shannon. That's the question. Are our tight-in just so-so-good, or our receivers maybe not there yet?
Starting point is 00:25:04 What's the answer to the question? You can say it. I don't know, man. I think it's a combination of both. I think it's that, hey, we finally realize that our tight ends can be pretty productive. And if you build it, they will come, if you will, with the tight ends. And I just, I'm not seeing it yet with the receivers. We got to figure that out if there is any figuring out to do.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Shannon, what's your take on it? On what? The receivers just not being, like, productive? Yeah. I think, I mean, we had that guy that caught in on the pre-show last week, who you said, you know, was a football coach and really knows the game inside and out, and he said it was
Starting point is 00:25:43 the receivers just not being able to get open for whatever reason. I'm not sure why that is, but I think that's the big problem. I mean, it's hard to target somebody when they're not open, and the receivers have to do their part, I don't think they're doing that. I think we got to kind of maybe a taste what was coming when in the first game against Toledo,
Starting point is 00:26:00 I think it was Van Hiles, who said, man, the passing game was not the fault of Calzada. Our receivers were not getting open, against Toledo defensive back. Now, he did mention a couple of those guys that are going to be in the NFL, but if you can't get open against Toledo,
Starting point is 00:26:14 how do you expect to get open against... Eastern Michigan. That's true. That right there should tell you a lot. Like, they should have had a lot of targets, a lot of receiving yards from our receivers, and they just, for whatever reason, weren't there or weren't open.
Starting point is 00:26:30 But you can't tell me, you can't tell me that Kendrick Law can't get open. I mean, he's one of the fastest dudes in the country. Yeah. You know, that's his calling card. So scheme him open. Find a way to get the ball in his hands and open space to create those yards. And I think that's where the – what is the missing – I do think that separation is a serious issue with the majority of the receivers.
Starting point is 00:26:51 But you can't tell me that we can't create – you know, create some of these guys some opportunities. I said this yesterday during the first half. I was like, where in the heck is Jamari Macklin? You know, he's supposed to be our number one guy. He did catch one ball in the second half. But Kendrick Law, he's become the number one. target on receiver but I'm like I'm like you maybe just a jet sweep something just get the bonnie's hands and just let him try to make a play and he came on so late last year and you kind of
Starting point is 00:27:15 thought well he's the guy that we could build around it was such a big deal when Macklin came back and it just really have not seen any type of jump whatsoever with him so somebody has to emerge in that room and I really don't know who it is well the other graphic that came out was like the the targets to the tight end is like double what it's been any other year in the Mark Stoops era that's not going to change. You got Willie Rodriguez and Josh Caddice and even the Boyer kid out there that can make a play for you. Cutter obviously is going to be able
Starting point is 00:27:43 feel comfortable throwing the ball to those guys. That's not going to change. He's going to continue to target the tight ends. Did you know that a bull rider is to give credit for the tight ends in their production right now? A bull rider. What's the story? So Caddus told that story last night on the Colin show, said that they have a
Starting point is 00:28:00 thing. Every time they talk, there's a picture up of a bull rider who had a sentence that says the bull don't care that there's a famous bull rider in the past that he could ride eight seconds he can break all the records professional bull rider but next time you go out there bull's not going to care that you broke the record yesterday focus on what's ahead and doing it doing again so they have that next next week mentality bulls don't care bulls don't care there you go the tight end room leading away so who would have thought that coming in the season all right we'll take our break but phone lines will be open 859 2802 287 that's 8592802 287 that's 8592
Starting point is 00:28:35 Widow Cats. That's the Clark's Publishaw phone number. Our A-Vision Glass Tech Machine has been rolling today. Most people talking about Jeff Goodman's potty mouth he had to start the show. Did I not warn you? You did warn me. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Starting point is 00:28:50 Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Lemon, Shannon, the dude, Jack Babyface Pilgrim. Who's this segment sponsored by Shannon? U.K. Federal Credit Union. Let's bust some.
Starting point is 00:29:05 myths about the UK Federal Credit Union. And myth number one, Ryan, you've got to be a part of UK to join. That's a myth. That's a myth. That's right. Myth number two, joining is a whole ordeal. Another myth. That's right. Come on. You know better than that. That's just plain wrong. Myth bust it. Truth is, a lot of Kentuckians are missing out on great rates and real benefits, and you can join at one of their seven local branches or online in under just three minutes, whether you wear blue or white or not because UK credit union we're not just for some, we're for all y'all. Membership eligibility required, federally insured by NCUA.
Starting point is 00:29:44 Phone lines have been a little slow today. We talk sports, Shannon. Phone lines get a little slow. That's right. And when we say, what's your favorite color? The lines just light up. Yeah. Give us a state that ends in a vowel.
Starting point is 00:29:56 People light up the phone lines. So 859-280-2287. That's Clark's Publish. phone number if you want to call and get on board. I do want to go back to something else, Jackie, you were involved with. The U.K. Athletics Hall of Fame had their induction ceremony Friday night. You were there. Got to talk to Carl Anthony Towns.
Starting point is 00:30:12 How did that go? It was awesome. I think there was just a level of appreciation, you know, with him being back in Lexington and understanding that, yes, the year didn't end the way we wanted it, too, with the Wisconsin game. But that team accomplished so much together. And it was kind of built a culture of unselfishness. and hey, I'm sacrificing my own personal accolades and stats for the greater good of the team to help win games.
Starting point is 00:30:38 And I think Carl had that message saying that, hey, it's not me getting inducted in the Hall of Fame. And it's not even just Willie Colley Stein and Alex Poitris. It's the Todd Lanters and the Brian Longs and the Sam Malones that everybody kind of came together for one common cause and got us to a 38-0 start that will never be touched ever again in the history of college basketball. So that was really cool.
Starting point is 00:31:01 Nintendo 64 was getting inducted as well because that was obviously a big part of their journey together, kind of playing Super Smash Brothers in the dorm together and all that. So very, very cool to see him back in Lexington and five-time NBA All-Star, you don't get to talk to those guys very often. So it was very cool. I saw the end of his induction speech too. He referenced like his mom. I thought that was kind of really touching.
Starting point is 00:31:23 And let's just call a spade of spade here and say that Ellen Caliperi being there for that in stepping in in that motherly role for him with his mom passing was very cool. And showing up with Brad, Cal wasn't there in attendance, but they met up it. Jeff Ruby's afterward and kind of met and celebrated their time together. Yes, it's awkward. It's weird for all of us. It's, you know, how weird it is for Jeff Goodman to be here. Imagine Cal's showing up right now in the middle of all this to celebrate an all-time Kentucky Wildcat and Carl Anthony Town.
Starting point is 00:31:55 So for Ellen and Brad specifically to acknowledge that kind of face. that head on, be there for Carl, knowing how awkward it was for everybody else in the room, but for one thing, and that's for Carl Anthony Towns, that's a very, very cool gesture for them, and they deserve a lot of credit for that. Did you talk to any other the inductees or just Carl? We talked to all of them, including Josh Heinz Allen, who, you know, that was very cool, and just kind of the face of the recruit and develop kind of motto, the blue collar, hey, let's bring our lunch pail to work kind of mentality that Kentucky football had,
Starting point is 00:32:27 coming in as a two-star and finishing as a Hall of Fame. I mean, that's one of the coolest, you know, stories you can come up with. So now he's, you know, about to break the all-time sack record for the Jacksonville January. So very, very cool for those two. But all of them. I mean, Kayla Epps talking about how, you know, I came in as Anthony Epps' daughter, and I left as, you know, Anthony Epps, is Michaela Epps' dad. So just very, very cool for her to get her props as well.
Starting point is 00:32:52 It's kind of the early cobblestone of what you see with women's basketball right now under Kenny Brooks. It's always a great thing that Kentucky does, bring different athletes from different sports, get them all together. But that the event, you know, John, they worked it out where the Jaguars were playing up with the Bengals. So Josh Allen could be there. Carl made it. They didn't go to the football game on Saturday, but they were both there for the induction ceremony. Cal, like you said, was in town, stayed away from the induction ceremony.
Starting point is 00:33:19 We tipped our hat to him. That's probably the best move. Yeah, you don't want to be the story. I mean, if he had walked in, and again, the reason why I was still there was because I, I heard the grapevine that cow was going to be there and it was like well I'm not going to not go around and see if cow's going to walk in and see what that moment's like but to his credit he deserves a lot of credit for not making the story about him but still making it very respectful with ellen and brad there i thought that was a nice touch 859-2802287 that's the
Starting point is 00:33:46 clark's pump and shop phone numbers and shannon says we got a phone call so who we got shannon marcia marcia go ahead marcia hello there i'm enjoying the show y'all are doing a great job Thank you, Marcia. And I, you know, you said we don't comment on sports stuff. But that's because we consider you the experts. Oh, yes. But I am going to comment on Robert Redford. Can you believe Shannon the dude didn't even know who he was?
Starting point is 00:34:14 Three Days of the Condor is a great movie, great movie. And I would almost swear that he directed ordinary people, which is a great movie with Donald Sutherland, I believe. But anyway, and then the way we were, he is so sexy and so good-looking. Oh, Marcia. And he was very talented, very, very talented, very talented. Slow down, Marcia. He did to watch a couple of his movies.
Starting point is 00:34:48 Appreciate it, Marcia. Yeah, appreciate you. How about that? We talk football and basketball for an hour and a half, no color. We mentioned Robert Redford dying, boom, immediately get Marshall calling in. Yeah, because he's sexy, apparently. We've got another call. What's your prediction?
Starting point is 00:35:04 Football, basketball, or something off the wall? Off the wall, for sure. Oh, Redford, yeah. All right, who is it, Shannon? Gork. Gork. Go ahead, Gork. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:15 Idaho is a state that in now. Of course, Robert Redford, how do these boys not know the natural sting, the sting, and Bush Cassidy and send that. kid. But more importantly, I think the Cutterblood experience, again, needs to continue on, even if dude gets healthy in the off week. I mean, he showed, like you said, he showed enough in the, again, Eastern Michigan, but he showed enough poise and accuracy and whatnot that he needs to keep going. And this year, we've got somebody to block the defensive ends. for South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:35:58 So maybe it'll be enough to put them down again, start that role again. All right. Appreciate it, Gorg, appreciate the phone call. Yeah, the offensive line is much, much better right now because South Carolina came in last year and embarrassed us. Second game of the season, they just embarrassed Kentucky, could not contain their defensive front.
Starting point is 00:36:18 So I think the caller's right. Gork's right. That will make a difference to go around. I think this is the biggest game of the Mark Soups era. Do you? think just what it means for fan morale. Like it does kind of have a, think of, think of what happens if they go down to Columbia and knock the Gamecox teeth in.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Like what happens to the level of like, oh, well, I mean, I've been out. I've had one foot out the door, but all right, well, if we're going to go and beat South Carolina, then, well, why can't we go beat, you know, Vandy in Florida? And then you start kind of dreaming big again with going to the bowl. And then we start saying, well, okay, well, there are seven women. games on the school, why can't we kind of get back to what we were expecting year and year out? So it's in, on the flip side, if you go in and get your tea knocked in, then I think the fans will completely jump off the hype train and say, all right, yeah, if we're, if South
Starting point is 00:37:11 Carolina is that far ahead of us in the pecking war, the SEC now, where we're not even competitive on their home environment, we just, you know, why are we even trying it? I feel like it's just, it could swing one way or the other in about as extreme directions you could possibly get. Ryan, could you imagine this scenario? Let's say we're coming off the by week. Calzada's healthy. Stoops decides to start Calzada and we lose the game to South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Well, fans just lose their mind. I mean, that's a scene. I don't want to be negative. I've been the most, I feel like, optimistic about the football team all season. But that is also a scenario that could play out. And if that happens, like Jack said, that could be the biggest game in the Stoops era if that scenario were to play out. Stoops can't do that.
Starting point is 00:37:53 I mean, he can't do it. You've got to run with Cutter, I think, right now. You can't take the job away from him. Now, the other scenario, Shannon. Or did he ever really have the job? Well. You say take the job? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:05 Like, I think it's Cutter's job to lose. I do, too. That's my opinion, but I'm not the coach of the team. So I think it's going to be really interesting to see what Stoops decides to do as far as the starting quarterback for South Carolina. And I think you ride or die with cutter, regardless how he plays at South Carolina. And go with him. What's your thoughts about it? Well, you bring in Zach to be the safety net.
Starting point is 00:38:24 You bring him in because, again, this is a maker break year for Mark Stoop's and the fan buy-in long term. If you can say that Stoop said, hey, we just can't have the wheels fall off this season. We got to, even if it's not get to a bowl game, we got to win five games. We just can't win two games. And I think he brought in Calzada to be the safety net, hey, we know he's not going to mess up. We know he's going to, he might not go win your games, but he ain't going to lose your games. But then when you watch how he's played the first two games, you go, he hasn't. necessarily, you know, even done that for us.
Starting point is 00:38:57 So I think at that point, if you're deciding between the two, then you do say, hey, at least we can get something. The fans excited for something. Have some type of buy-in for the future. Cutter has to be the guy. 859-2-2-287. Who we got, Shannon? Let's go to Nick.
Starting point is 00:39:11 Nick. Go ahead, Nick. You're on with Jack Pilgrim. Hey, hey, guys. Good morning. Don't have a question. Just thought I heard Jack Pilgrim on the radio and just wanted to call in and say how much I appreciate. the work that him and Sean Smith are doing over on the Sources Say podcast.
Starting point is 00:39:28 It's been a weekly thing for me, and I'm waiting to the point where we get back into a normal rhythm of it because I can't wait for the season to start. But, Jack, y'all are doing great stuff, man. Just want to encourage y'all. Bam. It's nice for your dad to call in and compliment you like that. I really do appreciate that. Yeah, we're just itching.
Starting point is 00:39:47 I told Stephen this just a couple days ago. I'm kind of getting that itch of like, man, I could do a little road trip to Tuscalo. So right now, I can do a little, you know, Columbia, South Carolina. I'm kind of getting that itch again for basketball season and traveling all these cool venues. And, you know, I remember last year when we were at Thompson Bowling Arena, we're going up, and I'm wearing a UK jacket like a moron, and fans are just screaming, screaming at me and cussing me out. And I'm like, yes, I need this. Bring this on because it's SEC basketball, man.
Starting point is 00:40:21 What more could you ever ask for? 859-280-2-287. That's our phone number. We'll take our break. Come back, but I do want to tell you guys something before we go to the break. You guys know where Everts, Kentucky is? You know what county Everts is in? Everett's?
Starting point is 00:40:33 I don't. Harlan County. Okay. Here's why I want to tell you this story. Tonight, in Everts, they're going to name the football field for former player Scottie Russell, who is their only Mr. Football, held the state rushing record. But there's more. Outside the football stadium, which is not going to be named after Scottie Russell.
Starting point is 00:40:50 They're going to name it the street outside the field for Perky Bryant. Perky Bryant, grandson is Trent Noah. I was wondering where the connection was going to come in for the Mountain Mamba. How long until we get Mountain Mamba
Starting point is 00:41:07 things named after him? As soon as he leaves Kentucky, they'll be Mountain Mamba Jim, Trent Noah Field. They'll have it at the Fieldhouse. They'll have it all ready for him. Are they going to name a mountain after him down there? They should. It's fitting. Why haven't they already done that. NIL. That's the
Starting point is 00:41:21 Mountain Mamba. I don't know who would pay for that NIL deal, the Parks Department maybe, but I feel like there's something to be had there. So that's tonight in the Little City of Everts, Perky Bryant's Road outside of Scotty Russell Stadium, and Perky Bryant's the grandfather of Trent Noah, so there you go.
Starting point is 00:41:38 All right, we'll take our final break. Come back, our final segment, 859-2802-87. Ryan, Jack, and Shannon. We'll be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Because it's about my high school years and my college years in the 80s. It's perfect. I love this song. You still relive that every morning when you wake up, huh? Absolutely, I still do.

Starting point is 00:46:38 All right, let's go to Dan. Dan, go ahead, Dan. Hey, Dan. How are you doing, buddy? You feeling all right? How's your health doing? My guys, God's looking after me, I guess. Everything is good right now.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Great to hear. Great to hear. I went to both games. I didn't listen to yesterday. Our quarterback's improved. Do you all think that we have a six now, or do we have to beat South Carolina? Appreciate it, Dan.
Starting point is 00:47:24 Good to hear from me. Glad you're doing well. Shannon's been six and six all season long. I think Florida now looks like more of a winnable game. But I thought they might win at Vandy. I don't know if Vandy is such a winnable game now. And I don't know if at Auburn's such a winnable game now. Maybe Auburn and Vandy may be better than I thought.
Starting point is 00:47:41 Florida may be not as good as I thought. What's your take on now, Jack? Yeah, I think Florida's definitely beatable, and they're definitely in, like, I don't know if they're even rooting for their team to win games. I think they want Billy Napier gone yesterday. So we could be to a point where Billy is coaching for his job, or they're like, hey, lose. We're rooting for Kentucky so we can finally get Billy out of there.
Starting point is 00:48:02 So definitely a winnable game. Vandy, I still think, is winnable, although they just beat South Carolina. And then Louisville, I think, is still beatable as well. So, I mean, you only got to find four more. You only got to find four more. Well, are there four out there? It's going to be tight. It is going to be very, very tight.
Starting point is 00:48:20 I'm not betting on it still. But I think the path is there. I think if Cutter continues to kind of build upon his first appearance and has that level of confidence and figures something out with the, wide receivers. I think the running backs and tight ends will be plenty, and I think the defense are, I think defense is going to be good no matter what. Shannon's been on board since day one.
Starting point is 00:48:39 He thinks still six and six. Has your opinion swayed any, Shannon? No, I think if you beat South Carolina, you're definitely getting to six. I feel like the Florida game is one that's definitely winnable, as Jack said. I mean, South Carolina is winnable. I mean, Vandy just went to South Carolina and destroyed them. Plus, they don't have a starting quarterback right now. So this is your chance to get them if your Kentucky going in next week.
Starting point is 00:49:00 This is our Draft King segment as well. Let's do a couple things first. I'll do basketball first, Shannon, then we'll flip it to you for some little baseball. We mentioned we had Jeff Goodman and Rob Doster on here. They were talking about the NCAA tournament. Purdue is now the favorite to win the NCAA tournament championship at plus 900,
Starting point is 00:49:16 Kentucky at plus 1,800. If you think Kentucky has a Final 4 team, anything can happen once you get to the final 4 at plus 1,800. That might be a good bet to jump on on Drive Kings. I'm hammering it. I'm going to. I didn't know it was that until I just looked it up. No arguments for me.
Starting point is 00:49:33 I'm in. Let's do it. Shannon, what about the baseball side of it? So the Reds, for those of you keeping up with the Reds, they are two games back of the Wild Card. And to make the playoffs right now, they are plus $5.50. So would you go all in on the Reds to make the playoffs? Or, I mean, you're only going to get minus 800 odds
Starting point is 00:49:52 to not take them to make the playoffs. Well, they're playing the Cardinals this week. So you're going to get swept. That's losses. So bet against the Reds. That series hasn't started. it yet? Starts tonight. Oh, okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:50:03 Starts tonight. And I think the reds are like a one and a half run favorite. So at St. Louis, Cardinals win. Bet that one. So bet the Cardinals to win tonight. Kentucky, the final four odds, I just looked it up, Jack. Kentucky to make the final four plus 475. The favorite
Starting point is 00:50:18 is Purdue at plus 205. Here's here to the favorite. See what you think. Purdue, Houston, Duke, Yukon. Those are the top four. To make the final four. Yeah, I think that's That's probably fair. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:32 I feel like 475 isn't the best odds, but, you know, I'm also higher on the cats than usual. Louisville also at 475. Yeah, I don't like that. But BYU is at 450. BYU is ranked ahead of Kentucky and Louisville to make the final four. That's insane. I think BYU is going to be good. They got the superstar, right?
Starting point is 00:50:56 They committed to them. A.J. DeBance is very, very good, but not a one. one-man show out there. So we'll see. We'll see when the ball is tipped. So Kentucky 475 plus 475 to make the final four plus 1,800 to make the win the national championship. Might as well.
Starting point is 00:51:11 Why not? Why not throwing something on that? Yeah, I mean, I'm personally pushing all my chips in on it, but I just, I wish you could get better value for final four.
