Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories,
Starting point is 00:00:52 their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:01:52 Within probably 10 days, I put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle. So great. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It has over 70,000 five-star reviews and counting, just like this review from Joshua, who says this about his experience with Stockton. They were super professional. Always answered my questions I had and streamlined the process. I could not ask for better people to help me and my family get our first house.
Starting point is 00:02:23 I feel blessed to be able to go through them. Be like Joshua, or the 69,000. 99 others just like him and get started with Stockton Mortgage today by going to Stockton.com and get started. I've even used Stockton Mortgage myself on my own home loan. For your home loan needs, Stockton. Stockton. Mortgage, NMLS 8259 Equal Housing Lender, NMLS Consumer Access.org. Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Ryan, Shannon, the dude, and Super Mario here live in Mount Vernon, Main Street in Mount Vernon. The Christian Appalachian Project has their Hunger Walk today. They just had the Hunter Walk went down Main Street. And join us now to talk a little bit about the Christian Appalachian Project is Guy Adams, to the president. It was kind of impressive to see 1,300 people, mainly students, kind of participate in the Hunger Walk, to help raise money and awareness for your organization.
Starting point is 00:03:24 You don't often see that type of. of youth involvement. Yeah. And that they learn and understand the challenges of food insecurity at this age. That's something they will carry with them the rest of their lives. Well, because the one stat that we all talked about where you gave is one out of five children go to bed hungry every night in our Appalachia, in our own state. Yes. So you got kids out here helping their fellow kids.
Starting point is 00:03:48 Yes. And we have three food pantries. And then we've got a partnership food pantry in McLaughin County. So you've served, it says here, 653,000 pounds of food, served 11,000 participants in the eating and repaired or rebuilt 276 homes. Talk about how this thing started and how it has sort of evolved over the years and grown into what it is now. It's interesting. You know, you don't think of a Catholic parish priest with some of the attributes of our founder, Father Biden. But he came here and as a young seminarian was sent to Appalachia.
Starting point is 00:04:25 and he was then placed at St. Clair Catholic Church. He started in Berea, and Berea had more Catholics than most of our communities. He started with eight Catholics, because I asked him back in the 80s. You mean eight Catholic families? He said, no, eight Catholics. But he would go out two weeks every summer, put a loudspeaker on his car, hook it to the battery, or if someone was nice enough to let him plug you. get in their outlet, and he would street preach.
Starting point is 00:04:58 And you don't think of Catholic parish priests doing that, but he would do that, and he would share the gospel with folks. And so he was more concerned, yes, with his parish and shepherding his own flock, but he was concerned about all everybody's relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And so that was kind of an unusual thing. but in doing that, he learned the challenges. And you know, when you're a preacher, priest, none, whoever you are, when you start helping people, more people come.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Yeah, right. And so he just learned that there needed to be in time, an official organization, serving people in need an Appalachian. That's how it started. Yeah, that's right. Wow. When I worked for Cap in the 80s, we were raising about $5.5, 6 million dollars a year. and this year we just went over $40 million.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Wow. That is awesome. Yeah. To fund our budget. That's awesome. Someone said, I wish he could see us now. I said, oh, he knows. He knows.
Starting point is 00:06:06 What do you have playing next? Obviously, like, this is a big thing for you guys, what you guys are doing, you know, having these kids come out here and, you know, try to fight hunger, fight the strong fight of hunger. What's the next big thing for you guys, you know, in this, in terms of, in this whole big picture thing for you? Yes. Well, we took over in the last six months or so the food pantry in Jackson County, McKeague. And we will have a groundbreaking tomorrow for a new building that will look very much like our facility here in Mount Vernon. Nice.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Because they're working out of a house that couldn't be bigger than this tent, this covering. And so we're going to build a real facility there on property that we secured from the city. It's on high ground. You never want in eastern Kentucky to be low ground. And flood plans, right? Right, right, right. And so that's what we're going to be doing. But you mentioned the houses.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Home repair is our single biggest program. And we do 250 to 300 homes every year in several counties in eastern Kentucky, including Rock Castle County for people that live in substandard housing. You know, they just are not secure in their own homes. And we do that with them, and we invite them to have a little sweat equity and help us wherever they can if they've got some carpentry skills or if they're just a gopher and they can bring us right. That's me.
Starting point is 00:07:41 I'm a gofer. I can't build anything. I'll go hand you this piece of wood. Here's a hammer. Yeah, here you go. So people can go to Christianap.org. Help your organization, help donate, help with the Hunger Walk today. thank you for having us down thanks for joining us and uh it's a great partnership it is
Starting point is 00:07:56 appreciate ksr and the your listeners uh ksr and and uh it's just a great partnership if they're here in this area we're best place to donate bring food like is there a specific to our food pantry on on the main drag on 25 okay just just past rinfro valley you'll see it down on the left if you're going toward barria yeah right okay thank you guy and appreciate me and president of the Christian Appalachian Project. The reason we're down here today, their hunger walk, they're fighting hunger, feeding people one step at a time, and they did it today with the hunger walk.
Starting point is 00:08:28 So we kind of wanted to get the word out what this organization does and how they help each other. All right, time to draw another question. All right, let's see what you got. All right, is it my turn here? All right. Turn that one down. All right, here we go.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Next question. This is for Ryan. Oh, it's for me. Did a yoga girl get some birthday loving? Oh, boy. You've already. Do we really? Before you answer.
Starting point is 00:08:50 It's like we already know the answer. Before you answer, remember you on radio. Yeah. I'll tell you how our life works. We go to Rodney's last night, had a great dinner. Yeah. Then after you eat a big dinner, you kind of got to sit and rest for about an hour to let your dinner settle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Then I realize I need to go let my dogs out. Left her just to go let my dogs out, came back. Then you've got to watch TV for another hour. I mean, that's just how old people operate, you know. You got let, you can't. That's the buildup to it. That is the buildup to it, yes. That's the Netflix before the chill.
Starting point is 00:09:23 You're 100%. So that's how it goes. But, yeah, her birthday was yesterday. Kelly's here. Kelly's birthday is today. Happy birthday, Kelly. Today. 29 years old today, Kelly.
Starting point is 00:09:33 She's got her louder than life shirt on. And then Super Mario's birthday is tomorrow when we're allowed it. Are you going to be 30? Don't say your age. Don't say your age. Don't say your age. I'm not that old. Don't say it because that's going to be part of our question to give away the tickets later.
Starting point is 00:09:48 All right. So keep that secret. I think we kind of just alluded to he's not 30. We mentioned Rock Castle County. We're talking some Rock Castle County football during the commercial break. You know, back in the day, Rock Castle County went to back-to-back state title games. It just so happened they ran into Boyle County both times when Boyle County won five titles in a row. But Rock Castle County went two years in a row.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I remember Aaron Andrickon was their quarterback. They had Jason Leager who ended up playing at Kentucky. Brad Durham ended up playing at Kentucky. I mean, they've produced some good football talent down here. But the one I remember is the best athlete I can remember is Sarah Hammonds. She was Miss Basketball. She was Kentucky McDonald's All-American. Not in Kentucky All-American.
Starting point is 00:10:30 She was McDonald's All-American. And then she went on to play at Louisville. She was coaching at Cumberlands. Is she still coaching at Cumberland's assistant coach or something? We've got some Jackson County guys here. What person says no? One person says I think she is. We don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:45 But yeah, these three guys from Jackson County, skipping class today at Cumberland. They're all three Cumberland students. Skipping class. They're going to learn more here than they are. Oh, of course, yeah. Absolutely. You're going to learn about you and yoga girl last night. Teach them about the birds and the bees here.
Starting point is 00:11:00 You've already warned me once. I can't say it again. You said it. Yeah, we've already got too many of those. Too many of those. All right, 859, 280287. That's our Clark's Pubmeshot phone number if you want to call and get on board. We do.
Starting point is 00:11:11 We mentioned we've got the NFL tonight, the Bills and the Dolphins. Miami Dolphins, baby. We've got to make any of our draft king's picks right now. kind of as who do you like tonight? I'm going with the bills. You know I'm going with the bills. Well, the bills are loaded with Kentucky guys, right? Kentucky guys, man.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Ray Davis, Maxwell Harrison, Dion Walker, all with the Buffalo bills. So you're riding with the bills tonight. I'm going with the bills. Okay, the bills are a 12 and a half point favorite? Does that change your mind? Are you going to take the point spread or you're just taking the bills straight out? Because you're not going to make much money on draft kings with minus 900 dollars. I'm not safe.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I'm the safe leg. I'm the safe leg. I'm keeping it up to you guys. Okay. Well, it's at Buffalo. Yeah. That makes a difference. I actually would take.
Starting point is 00:11:49 Buffalo in the 12 and a half. Yeah, I think they're going to smoke the offense tonight. I think the Buffalo Bills maybe win the Super Bowl this year. I think they're the best team. They are. Yeah. I mean, I can see Bill's and Packers in the Super Bowl. I got the Ravens winning it.
Starting point is 00:12:02 I'm just going to go on record right now. Bill's Packers, Super Bowl. You know, if this game was in November, December, it's cold. Miami's got to come up from nice warm Miami to go up to Buffalo. But it's not. It's in September. Does Miami have a fighting chance at all just because it's not going to be one of those cold Buffalo snowy-type games? Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:12:19 I'm going with the. bills man I'm confident with the bills cover stick stick with my Kentucky guys yeah cover it there you go there's your draft king's pick of the day Ryan space out right now go out with Mario ride with him because Shannon's pick is usually wrong my pick is you and I equally had really bad picks on the KSR Parlay which by the way we got to do a KSR Parlay I guess tomorrow and it's just gonna be the three of us well Jeff Piccoro's gonna go to Corro do one yeah I be back true might be back as well if Drew's not back We've got to win one while Matt's gone.
Starting point is 00:12:50 We can't hit one. If you would stop picking bad picks, we would win the parley. I had the good pick until the South Carolina quarterback got hurt. First week, you had the one pick that didn't hit. No, first week we all won. KSR Parlay. Okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Second week you had the one pick that didn't hit. Correct. You could have had back-to-back KSR Parley hits. But then, you know, you always throw in a stinker. So we've got to fade your pick, pick all the other picks. Now, one more thing we'll go to the break. 11 years ago, we did a show in London, and we had basketball tickets to give away. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:25 The winner of the basketball tickets, UK basketball tickets, 11 years ago, was a three-month-old baby. How did she sign up? Well, she signed her name on the piece of paper, I guess, and put her in the... Pull her name out. A talented baby. Three months old. Her name was Miles Mahafee. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:44 She just was one of the girls that walked behind us in the... She's 11 now. 11 years old. One of the students that just walked behind us in the Appalachian Project Hunger Walk. So she grew up. I think that's kind of cool. So I remember that. I remember this baby winning the tickets.
Starting point is 00:13:58 Youngest person to ever win tickets here on KSR. We were trying to remember if you were even at that show. I don't know. It was in London at a sporting goods store, low sporting goods. I don't remember that, but I can't, well, 11 years. 11 years. 11 years is a long, long time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:11 We couldn't even remember going through Kearney, Nebraska last year. So I doubt that I remember it. What I remember about that show, we had to do the first segment on the phone, because traffic, once again, and Mount Vernon was backed up. We got to the show late, so Matt had to do the first segment with Tony Venetti. Matt was on the phone. Vanetti was in the studio back in Louisville. The good old early days of KSR.
Starting point is 00:14:29 If those podcasts still exist, go back and listen to some of those shows. All right, well, take our break. We come back. We'll go to the phone lines. 859-2-2-287. That's the Clark's Pump Shop phone number. We're right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
Starting point is 00:15:54 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Starting point is 00:16:12 Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keer Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness.
Starting point is 00:16:44 professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like you don't feel like.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face like, up and smile. That means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do like, I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's
Starting point is 00:17:43 Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion-dollar fraud.
Starting point is 00:18:16 But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan, Shannon, and Mario here live in Mount Vernon on Main Street at Community Trust Bank,
Starting point is 00:18:51 a proud supporter of the Christian Appalachian Project, Hunger Walk that they had earlier today. They had four walks across the state. They had the one here in Rockcastle County. They had one in McCreary County, Jackson County, and one in Lexington today. So we're helping to get the word out. You go to Christianap.org if you want to contribute to help and learn more about the program, what they do. I do need to make a correction. I said Sidney McLaughlin had the American record.
Starting point is 00:19:14 now in the 400 and the 400 hurdles. Is it a world? World record. That's right. Yeah. She broke her own world record last night. So I know, yeah, give her a round of applause. That's just, it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Like I said, it's just, she's young. I mean, a lot of sprinters kind of get better when they get like their 30s, it seems like. So she's going to just get big, better and better. Not even in her prime yet. All right, let's go back to the bowl. I was just going to ask one question, a segment. Do you think we need to get to all the questions?
Starting point is 00:19:40 No, it's up to you, man. It's your show. You tell me. I just, I just feel like this. There's going to be a lot of unanswered questions if we don't get to everybody's. All right. Let's try one. I think Mario's next.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Everybody should get a chance to. All right. What's this question? Out of somebody from here in the audience. How many losses for UK basketball this season? Oh, I like that one. That's a good one. How many losses for UK basketball this season?
Starting point is 00:19:58 That's good. You know, with their non-conference schedule of Louisville, Michigan State, St. John's, Gonzaga, Indiana. And then but the SEC may not be as strong as it was last year. So what are your thoughts, Mario? You're our basketball guys. I'm going to say five. Five losses.
Starting point is 00:20:16 I got us beating Louisville. I got us beating North Carolina. Losses, I don't know if we'll be able to beat Gonzaga. That's a neutral site. In Nashville, I don't know about that. I'm probably going to go five. That's my lucky number. Five losses.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Shannon? I'm going to go six. I think they'll probably, first of all, let's go to the SEC. There's always a game every year. It doesn't matter how good they are where they go on the road. they drop a game you don't expect them here. On a Tuesday night, on the road. So I think they'll probably go into the SEC with two losses,
Starting point is 00:20:52 and I think they'll probably drop, you know, again, a loss that you don't expect them to get. Who's your two losses, Shannon? Who's the two non-conference loss? I mean, it could be any combination of these teams. I don't know exactly who I would have them lose to, but, I mean, there's a good non-conference schedule that Mark Pope has put together,
Starting point is 00:21:09 one of the best ones I think we've seen in a long time. and I think Gonzaga is going to be tough in Nashville. They still have that big fella. And then St. John's, I think, is going to be really tough, too. That's the game we're going to. St. John's game probably scares me the most out of the non-conference game. That's going to be an exciting game, though. Bryce Hopkins, he's going to be playing against his former team, Rick Petino.
Starting point is 00:21:32 That's going to be a good one. I'm excited for saying that. So let's call it Gonzaga and St. John's. For non-conference losses. losses. And then, I mean, any combination of teams in the SEC. I don't know exactly who they're going to lose to, but I think six bills about right. Well, the one SEC game that I feel like I'm going to be wanting to win the most is at Arkansas.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Oh, yeah. You have to win. Caliperie just beat you at Rupp Arena first year. Now you're going to his house. But Arkansas is going to be really, really good. He got most of those guys back, right? Carter Knox is back. Billy Richmond's back.
Starting point is 00:22:04 Good freshman, too, coming in. Yeah, right. Boogie Flan left and went to Florida. Florida, that's what I'm worried about. Florida, I think they're going to be good. We've got Aberdeen, though. Yeah, Arkansas is going to be good. Alabama is not as good as they have been, but they're going to be good.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Tennessee is good. Diabate. We're just poaching guys off the best SEC teams. All right, let's pull another question out of the bowl here from somebody in the audience. How bad was West Roberts at baseball, Kentucky Wesleyan College? I know who sent that one. That's his son right there, Jacob Roberts. West Roberts was one of my best friends in college.
Starting point is 00:22:36 I was in his wedding. He was a great baseball player. Actually, he started four years. He walked as a freshman and started. So you definitely got all your baseball skills from your mama. Here's the one thing people forget about Ryan. And you were talking about wanting to see Ryan run. Back in his day, Ryan was actually really fast.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Was he? He's the all-time stolen base leader at Kentucky Wesleyan. I can't see him being fast. I see the calves, though. His calf muscles are huge. You like his calf muscles? They are pretty big. It's a record that will never be broken.
Starting point is 00:23:09 You don't think it will ever be broken? Never be broken. How many stolen bases? Are you talking about single season or just career? I have stolen bases in a game, stolen bases in a season, stolen bases in a career. Give me the numbers because I know you have them in your head. Stolen bases in a game was five. That's pretty impressive.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Against your Lindsey Wilson Raiders. Wow. Stolen base in the season, I think, was 41. All right. And then a career, I think it's 106 because it's on my shoes. What do you mean? You have it on your shoes? Well, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my,
Starting point is 00:23:36 monarchs that your true blue customs guy made for me. I think he's got a hundred and six. Billy Hans. Billy on there. All right, 859, 2802, 287. There is one topic that we do need to kind of discuss because it's like the number one news topic. This is not the show for it, but we have to at least acknowledge it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:53 ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel off the air. Yeah. His entire show, not just him. His entire show got pulled off the air for comments he made about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. whether you agree with what he said or not, that's not the debate. The debate that I want to have with you guys is, should they have pulled him off their air? And if we say something like that, we can get pulled off the air.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Matt got pulled off the air when he was thinking about running against Mitch McConnell. They called, complained, and our bosses pulled him off the air. It happens. They pulled the whole show off the air. And they're not coming back up. Indefinitely. I think that they suspended indefinitely. What do you think, said?
Starting point is 00:24:34 I mean, it's a tough call for ABC because they've got to look at their advertisers. And remember, like, when you're on a show, the advertisers are, you know, what you say is a reflection to what they believe a lot of times, right? So if advertisers are wanting to pull out, pull their sponsorship, it's going to hurt the company of ABC overall. It's going to hurt the Jimmy Kimmel show. And I don't even know what he said. I guess it had to be pretty egregious if they were willing to pull them off the air.
Starting point is 00:25:02 So, I mean, it's a tough call. You know, you say you have freedom of speech, but you don't have freedom of speech when it comes to consequences, right? There's going to be consequences for things that you say. So if ABC feels like it's the right call, then, I mean, who am I to say that ABC made the wrong call and pulling them off the air? I just don't know why we get to the point to where, regardless of what you think about somebody politically, I mean, we're talking about somebody who lost a life. Right. A guy who was a husband, who was a father, and I don't think that's anything to joke about. So I don't know what he said, but obviously it was bad enough for ABC to pull him off the air.
Starting point is 00:25:38 And, I mean, you've got to be held responsible for what you say, especially somebody that's on TV or radio or whatever it may be. Yeah, that's a very sensitive topic. But I don't know what, like I said, I didn't see it. I heard it was something like a joke, like Jim made kind of like a joke. But I didn't see it. It's a sensitive topic. I do understand why they took them off. It's a business at the end of the day.
Starting point is 00:26:01 You got to protect your business. other than that man that's just that's just kind of how it is you got to be careful what you say what do you think about it i uh this this my thoughts about it it is very sensitive topic yeah yeah if a bc wants to pull him off the air i can totally see it but the fact they pulled his whole show off the air that's the guys behind the scenes the camera guys the producers the directors i understand that guy like my son that sets up lights and cables and microphones of people right i mean are those people now not going to have a paycheck because of something that he said? I think the problem is with his name being associated with the show.
Starting point is 00:26:36 Yeah. I think that has a lot to do with it as well. Do you think it's a situation where maybe some sponsors, advertisers, said, hey, we're pulling our money. Probably so. And to save that income, they probably said, okay, we'll just pull him off the air. We'll just take him off the air. Don't pull your money away.
Starting point is 00:26:53 I can kind of see that kind of happening behind the scenes, don't you? Oh, absolutely. Yeah, I mean, if you say something on the air, again, it's a reflection of your average. advertisers. If they're not, if they don't like what you say, they can pull their money. They have the right to do that. And if ABC is seeing that, then they've got to take action.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Well, again, we're not here to discuss right or wrong what he said. It's a very sensitive topic, and it was awful what happened to Charlie. It's nothing to joke about. Nothing to joke about at all. So I thought the debate we could have today was whether it was the right decision by ABC. I see what you're saying because, yeah, I mean, it also takes the job away from all the other people who had nothing to do with that. A ton of people work on the Jimmy Kimmel Show. behind the scenes.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Are those people now without a paycheck because of something that he said? Yeah. You know? But I think, you know, you have to understand going into that job. That's what you're signing up for, you know? Yeah. Again, he's a reflection of everybody else that works there. That's true.
Starting point is 00:27:47 859-280287. That's our Clark's Publishout phone number. We mentioned that we were here in Mount Vernon years ago. It's Marcellus. Marcellus Farm to Fork Restaurant. And the county attorney that sponsored our show was just here a while ago. Jeremy Rowe, but apparently they got word out to Marcella's restaurant, now they're bringing us lunch. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:28:06 So cool. I remember that show we did out there. It was a nice little kind of a country cooking place, and they're going to bring us lunch out here today. Well, that is very much. I very much appreciate that because I've got to hop in the car and drive right back to Louisville and go right to louder than life for the next. Starts tonight. Yeah, it starts today, and it's four straight days, and it is insanity out there. Are you excited, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:28:28 I am. Always look forward to it. one of my favorite weeks of the year. There's over 175 bands who will be there. It looks like the weather is going to cooperate with us this year. We got one day that got rained out last year, so everything looks good. And looking forward to it. I tried to get Ryan to come with me during the pre-show.
Starting point is 00:28:43 He wouldn't agree to do that because he's got to go to Nebraska to watch Dane Key. I'm going to play this weekend. I am flying the Nebraska to watch Nebraska host Michigan on Saturday. Dane has had three games, three touchdowns. That's all I'm going to say. All right. We'll take our break. Come back.
Starting point is 00:29:00 This is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-2-2-287. Ryan, Super Mario, and Shannon the dude. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio
Starting point is 00:29:12 presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Matt, over in South Africa. So, oh, my goodness. You got to be about to light you out. Don't hit it, Ryan. Leave it alone, right?
Starting point is 00:29:24 They don't bother me. He's just trying to make some honey. That's why he was sniffing my eyes. armpit. Hey, stop paying for sunglasses. Are you tired of buying expensive sunglasses only to lose them, break them? Wait a minute.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Yeah. Just by only to lose them? Break them. Break them. Or worse, you never even wear them because you don't want to get them dirty. Well, you need Shady Raise. Shady Raise is an independent, American-owned company
Starting point is 00:29:48 that started right here in Kentucky. Shady Raids has premium polarized shades for every activity, running, fishing, biking, golfing, you name it, from their tangle-free aviators that won't get stuck in your glowing hair, Shannon. to the color rush lenses that provide ultimate color-enhanced visibility. Every member of the family can find their perfect pair. Shady Raze offers the best protection program in the industry with lost and broken replacements.
Starting point is 00:30:08 So taking your next adventure with a team that has your back, that is Shady Rays. 859-2802-287. Apparently the phone lines are loaded. I wonder why. Any indication of what happened on the A-Vision Glass Tech Machine, it's all about Jimmy Kimmel. Yeah. We'll go through the calls, but we're not here to debate what he said. There are other shows for that.
Starting point is 00:30:28 But if you want to discuss about, well, we'll just kind of have to play it by ear here. I'm afraid we're about to open up a box of worms. A box of worms? That we may not get out of a can of worms. I haven't seen a can of worms. So, Liam, let's tiptoe in and get a call and see who we got. Box of worms. Jake and Hickory.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Go ahead, Jake. Thank you, Liam, for taking a call. Go ahead, Jake. Ryan, do you know that game is going to be on tonight? on WLAP. You're talking about the volleyball game? Yes. Let's check on that because I don't know if it's going to be carried on WLAP or not tonight.
Starting point is 00:31:13 I know it's on ESPNU. ESPNU, Jake, but we'll double check on that. All right, just keep listening and we'll announce when we find out. Yes, sir. Okay, thank you, Jake. We appreciate it. Appreciate the call. All right, we got through one call.
Starting point is 00:31:29 That was a good one, Liam. I like how nervous you get when we get on topics that, you know, Well, this is when we need Matt. This is when Matt is at his best in a situation like this. So who's next, Liam? This is when you are at your best. You're best. Your best.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Go ahead, Liam. Who's next? Robin Lawrenceburg. Rob and Lawrenceburg. Go ahead. Yes, sir. You all keep talking about Mark Stoops leaving the program. One thing I have thought about, can you,
Starting point is 00:31:57 can Barnhart demote Stoops to a lesser place on the team? such as assistant, defensive coordinator. And if they was to do that, you know Stoop's ego would force him to move on. And you could hire another coach. Appreciate the phone call. Okay. Okay, go ahead. Okay, go ahead, fella.
Starting point is 00:32:26 All right, appreciate the phone call. Thank you. That's not going to happen. No. Stoops is not going to be demoted. The contract is to be the head coach. To be the head coach. That just is not going to happen.
Starting point is 00:32:36 and if they kind of falter this year, it's a serious conversation, I think they're going to have to have where the program heads from here. They have another four-win season, back-to-back four-win seasons, and the schedule's not getting easier next year. I don't know, but that's not going to happen. Matt has kind of already said, you know,
Starting point is 00:32:54 the next coach is probably going to be John Schumroll or Brad White. Those are the two leading candidates, if something happened right now. Stoops could turn it around and win a couple of games. They'll be here for several years. Who knows how we're going to play out? And that would be weird. Like if he got demoted and he still his hair.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Like, wouldn't that be weird, Shannon? That's not going to happen. That's never happened anywhere. It's not going to happen. I do have an update. I believe the UK versus Louisville volleyball game should be on UK Sports Network. So I'm guessing the WLAP should have it. Should carry the game tonight?
Starting point is 00:33:22 Correct. Okay, so just tune in the night. If not even go online, I'm sure, and find it. All right, Shannon, pick out another question. All right, the question is. We've got five or six more. Ryan, do you believe Jimmy Kimmel should have been fired? No, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:33:34 This is why. This is who I have to work with every day. That's why he's my boy. Now, here it is. This is involving Charlie Kirk. Do you fill the text messages in Charlie Kirk's murder case are fake? Did you just make that up? No, I read it.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Read it right there. I don't even know what they're talking about. I don't either. Well, the text messages between Charlie Kirk and his roommate, I believe, is what the question is about. There's a... And there's some people saying that they're fake. I mean, look, there's people out there saying that everything's fake. There's probably people here that think you're fake.
Starting point is 00:34:04 You know, I mean... Well, with AI now, it's easy to fake. All kind of stuff online. So I guess you don't want to go through and answer that question. I can't answer because I don't know. Let's do another one. Let's try another one. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:15 All right, the next question is. Better not be another one. Can I go to Louder Than Life with Shannon? Who asked that one? Oh, there we go. There you go. We're giving away tickets. We're giving away tickets at the end of the show.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Here's a thing. How many people would actually go to Louder Than Life that, okay. Oh, okay. I was going to say, just give them to him, but we've got a few other people. Yeah. I have to win the honest contest. All right. What's going to be the contest?
Starting point is 00:34:37 I was ready to just give him louder than Life Fest tickets. You don't have tickets? Oh, okay. She's got the shirt on loud than live tickets, Kelly. If we had three, we could just give him to all three and just tell him to go. Yeah, that's my turn. That's another question. Cool.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Out of the bowl. You don't want to go back to the phone, Ryan? We're two for two. Maybe we should quit while we're ahead. Who is your least favorite caller? Is that really the question? Oh, man. Who is your least favorite caller?
Starting point is 00:35:06 And by the way, you said we would answer these questions. You said we would. Yeah. Who's your least favorite caller? You did say that, Ryan. Anybody calling about the Jimmy Kimmel thing right now probably? Yeah, that's true. You know, I do like Jay Rock.
Starting point is 00:35:19 No, no, no, no, no. Least. Least favorite. I'm going through my favorites to see. No, no, no. Who is my least favorite caller? Truth. You don't like the truth?
Starting point is 00:35:27 Because he makes fun on me every time he calls, calls me Brian Lemon. Yeah. Easy one for me. We don't even take his calls anymore, but he used to call in as, AC. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he hasn't called in and forever.
Starting point is 00:35:39 That's because I don't let him on the show anymore. Who's the caller that really talks fast on game days? He comes. Otis. Otis. He's great. Now, I love Otis. Otis doesn't take a breath.
Starting point is 00:35:48 Yeah. When he calls in. He's a great caller. So, I kind of think of if there anymore. We used to get. No, Matt hates Bob and Jamestown. He doesn't hate Bob and James Town. I like Bob and James Town.
Starting point is 00:36:03 I like his calls a lot of time. I will say this. When Bob and Jamestown calls, we get more reaction on the text line and on social media than probably, I would say, any other caller. You know, John Short calls the pre-show. He calls the pre-game show. He hasn't called us in forever. I don't know. I mean, I think maybe the pre-show is taking over John Short's favorite show.
Starting point is 00:36:26 There's no doubt who the favorite show is. So don't forget we got Thursday night, football tonight at KS Bar and Grill. Are you going to be there? I'm going to be there. We've got some stuff to give away. It would be kind of a fun little night. We had a good crowd last Thursday night. Great crowd, actually.
Starting point is 00:36:38 You were giving a happy birthday shout-out. If you're birthday party, bring them on. We'll give you a little birthday shout out and have a little shot with you. So we're coming out. Let's try one more call. I think we're, one more call if we go to a break. So who we got, Liam? Bill.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Bill, go ahead, Bill. Bill's definitely calling about Kimmel. Bill, are you there? Appreciate the call. All right, Bill. We'll take another one, Liam. Who we got? Noah.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Noah go ahead Noah hey Ryan I got to say I love you guys but why you guys got a name job me like you did yesterday oh this is Noah dollar wing Noah oh noah and thought it could buy 10 wings for a dollar no it's a dollar a wing Noah I thought Matt already out at Noah yeah I lost part of my dignity yesterday or I lost part of my duty would have been but you know they keep on making fun of me that's just Well, Ryan's just piling on at this point. I agree with you, Noah. He should keep your name out of his mouth and stop talking about the fact that you thought that you could get 10 wings for a dollar.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Yeah, I will say, I would say either that or if you're going to use my name, then give me a night where I do get to have 10 wings for a dollar. Hey, it ain't happening, Noah. Look at it. Nice try. Good try. So I appreciate it. Thanks for calling. Noah was at our remote we had out there at Clark's Puppet Shop.
Starting point is 00:38:07 did the touchdown dance for a $25 gift card. That's right. We found out people will lose their clothing just to get $25 a gift card. That's right. All right, we'll take our last break. Come back, our last segment, give away a couple tickets. Still got a few questions in them. Oh, this look.
Starting point is 00:38:20 Marcellus just brought us lunch. Oh, look at that. Marcellas. How about that? Thank you. We'll take a break. Come back. One more segment to go.

Starting point is 00:40:44 Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile,

Ryan, Shannon, the dude, and Super Mario. You really do love this song. I played this a couple of days ago. I love it.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Same reaction. It's awesome. It's awesome because it reminds me of my high school and college era in the 80s. It's just perfect. So who's this segment sponsored by Shannon? Our friends of Drafking Sportsbook, sign up as a new customer. Use the promo code KSR. You bet $5.

Starting point is 00:43:41 Big game tomorrow night. Rock Castle County hosting Madison Southern right here at the Rock, their new stadium. Who are you picking in your, the big draft kings pick in the night for tomorrow night? Rock Castle, let's go. I'm going to Rock Castle. Of course you're going Rock Castle County.
Starting point is 00:43:55 You have to. You've got to play to the home field, but they got a new stadium. They have a big rock. Like it's a monster rock. Do they have a chain on it? A meteor. Yeah, they did have a chain on it. Make sure that rock doesn't roll away.
Starting point is 00:44:06 But do the guy still come out and touch it When they come out of the locker, and everybody has to touch that rock. They go out. They go out. They're going to walk out. All right, we have three questions left from our viewers here. My turn.
Starting point is 00:44:15 All right. We'll try to get all three of these before we get out of here. Here's the next one. Favorite athlete all time. Ooh. That's a good question. Ooh. For me.
Starting point is 00:44:26 And it's, yeah. I was just thinking about his more recent things that have happened to him. Probably not the greatest name of the list. But for me, it's Brett Farve. Just growing up being a Packers fan. Being a Packers fan. Watching him. Watching him.
Starting point is 00:44:37 watching him. He was an most unorthodox quarterback I've ever seen, but like a tough, gritty guy that led the Packers to a Super Bowl, a guy that I've obviously, even though I didn't play football, grew up loving to watch the way he played the game. So for me it's Brett Favreau. Mario. I'm going to say LeBron James. That's pretty much cool. Not Bronny?
Starting point is 00:44:55 No, not Brony, Ryan. LeBron. LeBron. The senior. LeBron James. Yeah, grew up watching him. It's kind of, you know, a big basketball guy, got to watch him do his thing. My favorite athlete growing up was Lou Brock, Cardinal Out.
Starting point is 00:45:07 fielders, speedsters, had the stolen base record. I was going to be the next Lou Brock. But if you ask me my favorite athlete, I mean, I got to pick probably Dante Key and Freddie Maggard. Oh, really? Yeah. All time? All time.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Yeah. Is it because your buddies is with them? Of course. By the way, I just talked to Freddie the other day. He's doing fine. People ask all the time. How's Freddie doing? He's doing fine.
Starting point is 00:45:27 You know, he's got some issues he's still dealing with, but he's doing fine. Here's the thing that's kind of crazy. It's like, he has detached himself from football. He's like, man, I just don't watch it anymore. Really? Yeah. Doesn't even watch the games? He doesn't even watch the games anymore.
Starting point is 00:45:39 Wow, and he loves football. But he knows people kind of reach out and talk to him and when everybody knows, he's doing great. And he says, since he's love and he appreciate everybody's asking about him. Before we go to the next question here, you know, you brought up the Cardinals. Your Cardinals lost last night to the Reds. And the Reds are just hanging on by a thread. They are still in the race. Only two games back with 10 to go.
Starting point is 00:45:59 And I'm just saying your Cardinals may be contributing to the Reds getting into the playoffs if they actually do. Yeah, the Reds actually won the Series with the Cardinals. Although Cardinals won the season series, this last series, Reds won. I'm just saying right now, though, your Cardinals aren't, you know, if you're trying to keep the Reds out of the playoffs, they didn't do a very good job. No, they sure didn't. So I think, yeah, the Reds are two back. Cardinals like four, four and a half back now.
Starting point is 00:46:19 So, yeah, I wasn't happy. My dad was definitely not happy. He could pull out one more. All right. All right. Most crazy Ryan Lemon story. That's a good question. Most crazy Ryan Lemon story.
Starting point is 00:46:32 We told about me dropping my sausage McMuffin in my lap this morning. That's not a crazy story. Said about my speeding ticket I got yesterday. That is nothing compared to... You said I almost killed you when we were driving in Cincinnati. Yeah. I mean, that pretty much covers everything. Well, I mean, I wasn't there, but I feel like the time you almost got shot in a rooster's parking lot.
Starting point is 00:46:50 That's true. Had a lot to do with it. Matt actually saved the day. Matt was Mr. Calm and cool that day. Was he? Yeah, because this guy... You almost got hit. We were in a parking lot.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Well, to get into the parking lot, I kind of cut him off. I realized there's the roosters. Boom. I wheeled in. I kind of cut him off. He decides to pull him behind me and gunned his car like he's going to run me down in the Worcester's parking line. So when he went by me, I smacked his car. You did not.
Starting point is 00:47:16 I did. He was flying by me and I smacked his car and he didn't by him. So he slammed on the brake, stopped, pulled a gun out. Oh, wow. And I heard, click, click. He goes, that's a good way to get shot around here, boy. Then what did you do? And then I hear Matt out of nowhere.
Starting point is 00:47:29 Hey, hey, hey, hold on. Hold on. My man, my man, Ryan, you go inside. My man, my man. So he actually diffused the situation. Matt did. I got to give him credit for that one. He's good at that.
Starting point is 00:47:40 I would say that's probably the craziest Ryan Lemon story I could think of. Yeah. Is there another one? Well, there's the day you and I and Sarah and Yoga Girl were sitting on a swing in Panama City Beach. Oh, no, no, no. Screaming and hollering and waking people up in the hotel behind us. What? That's not that crazy in the story.
Starting point is 00:47:57 Screaming and hollering? Yeah. We got pretty loud, pretty loud there. Yeah, there's some we don't need to talk about. Here, pull out the last question. Okay, let's see what we got here. What should Mario do for his birthday? I hate this question, whoever.
Starting point is 00:48:11 What should Mario do for his birthday tomorrow? We should come to work and get the show with us tomorrow. You're going to start at Wild Eggs. Do the show at Wild Eggs in the morning for your birthday. Yeah, and then the rest of the day I'm going to work. And then after that, I don't know what I'll do. I'll have to figure that out. It came out a perfect time for you because Kentucky's off this weekend.
Starting point is 00:48:28 You've got a whole weekend to do your birthday celebration. I do like to travel. I don't know. I would go to Chicago because I've been there, you know, few times, but I know a lot's going on to Chicago right now. So I don't know, man. I'm still thinking about it, even though it's tomorrow. But you're staying in Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:48:41 You're going back to Florida? No, I'm not going back. I'm staying in Kentucky? You're staying in Kentucky? Yeah. Well, sounds like a fun birthday. Yeah. Maybe you can join me.
Starting point is 00:48:49 I'm going to be it louder than life. I can't. I try to get you to join me out there. You didn't want to come out there. I've seen the videos you showed me this morning and I think I'm going to pass. I mean, come on, really? It's not my kind of thing. Big change.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Perfectly out there. Big change is coming to high school basketball in Kentucky. in two years. About time. Kentucky's going to put in a shot clock for high school basketball. About time. Obviously, the game is evolved, the college game is evolved, the NBA is involved, the high school game is evolved. Are you like one of the last states to do it?
Starting point is 00:49:22 I know California has it. I really don't know. I don't know how many states actually have a shot clock, but Kentucky, starting with a 27, 28 seasons, so two seasons from now will put in the shot clock. your thoughts. I love it. The team can't just hold the ball now. A lot of the high school teams just like to hold the ball when they're playing. I think it's going to be more entertaining from the fans' perspective when you go to high school games.
Starting point is 00:49:44 And they'll make the player better, you know, having a shot clock. Because when you go to the next level, it's going to be a shot clock there in college. And NBA is even a shorter shot clock if you get there. So I'm a fan of it. According to Google, 19 states and Washington, D.C., it says, do not have a high school shot clock. So most states do have it. Well, states do have it. I mean, yeah, it's something that we mentioned this on the pre-show.
Starting point is 00:50:07 It feels like how do we not have shot clocks? Then we talked about how much it actually costs to buy a shot clock. Then you've got to have somebody run the shot clock. But, yeah, I mean, and now if you're down by 10 points in the fourth quarter, it doesn't feel like you're down by 50 because the team can just hold the ball around the clock out. So I think it's a good thing. You know, again, though, it just comes down to do schools have the funding to be able to buy those and employ somebody to do that and have a volunteer?
Starting point is 00:50:32 I guess, to run the shot clock. I can see that being something that Ryan Lemon would like to do. I would like it. Ryan would just show up at somebody's high school and just run the shot clock. I've kept the scorebook. I've kept the board. Yeah. The scoreboard.
Starting point is 00:50:44 I've done a lot, you know, over the years when Josiah's playing. Right. PA announcer? PA announcer. I love doing it. But like we talked about on the pre-show, these shot clocks aren't cheap. So you get a school like Rock Castle County here. You've got to get one for your high school.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Yeah. Maybe you've got to get an auxiliary gym. Maybe you've got to get one for your middle school gym. I think the number I saw was like 20. 9900. I mean, that adds up for some schools who tight budget begin with anyway. But I think it's the right thing. One thing I did think was interesting that they did this survey among athletic directors in Kentucky, Mario, and 60% voted against it. Why? Was it the funding?
Starting point is 00:51:18 Maybe. Maybe the funding of it. And like I said, you've got to get, it's hard enough to find somebody to run the board, the announcing the beat, get your officials. Now I've got to get somebody to run the shot clock. So I don't know. But 60% said no, yet they decided to go ahead and put an input. Look, I mean, at some point they've got to evolve and put shot clocks in. So at this point, whether or not they voted it for it, it doesn't matter. It's coming. They're going to implement it regardless. Like, I think the college game is going to go to quarters probably pretty soon. You know, we play the only division of basketball that plays halves.
Starting point is 00:51:50 So why not play quarters? All right, well, we've got one more sponsor.
