Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now, here's Matt Jones.
All right, welcome back.
It is hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan, Drew, and Shannon.
We had a lot of gloom and doom talking about UK football the first hour.
So let's talk about some positive things this hour.
Let's get back on the positive train, Drew.
There are a lot of fun topics from the...
A lot of fun topics.
And the first one is, you just heard Matt Jones is not here,
but he'll be here on Friday.
Our remote is at Shady Raise in Louisville.
That'll be Matt's big return.
So come on out.
It's always a good show when we come to the Shady Raise there at Oxmoor Mall.
Matthews Mall.
I always forget the mall's confused.
I'll have to double-check that too because I also get them backwards.
Yeah.
But that'll be Friday in Louisville at Shady Raise.
Matt's big return to Kentucky and KSR.
Speaking of Matt, his Cincinnati Reds somehow are in the playoffs.
The summer of Ellie turned into the fall of L.A.
It's now turned into playoff, Ellie.
They lose yesterday, but the Mets also lost yesterday.
So the Mets helped the Reds get in the playoffs
because they could not beat the Florida Marlins.
The Reds play the Dodgers tomorrow night, Wednesday night.
It's a best of three, Shannon.
So if there's a game three to be Thursday night,
and I can't believe we're talking about the Reds in the playoffs.
And Matt's not going to be here to see any of it.
That's the worst part about it.
You know, he was talking about the,
Summer of L.A. and Reds, you know, he gave up on him. I felt like before he left for South Africa.
Now they're in, but they're going to be out of the playoffs before he could even return.
So think about that. While Matt's been gone, they're going to make the playoffs and be out of the playoffs before Matt can get back on the radio Friday.
Yesterday, it was about 1 a.m. in South Africa.
Matt's in Kruger National Park in a tent. Now, I'm sure it was like glamping.
I'm sure it's a nice tent. I don't think Matt went out there and put a tent up.
but we're doing cover zero
and he's whispering through cover zero
because there's other tents around him
and they're literally in the middle of Kruger National Park
but I'm on I'm doing the show with Matt
you know we're got a little video
I can see I'm talking to him as the Reds made it
I think part of that will be in the podcast
but I can tell you he probably woke up some lions
some zebras and some fellow tourists
but that was his scenario when he learned that the Reds
had clinched yesterday it's about four or five o'clock
here I'd say maybe a little later
middle of the night for him, but I got to witness his live reaction as we did cover Zero,
and he is very fired up, as you can imagine.
Well, we all know he left the country last year, and the UK baseball team went to the
college baseball World Series.
He leaves the country this year, and the Cincinnati Reds are in the Major League
baseball playoffs for the first time.
Well, they went in in 2020, the COVID season, but back for the first time winning in
the rightful way to get in since 2013, I think.
Hadn't won a series since 1995.
I mean, that's a long time since you've won a playoff series if you're a
Reds fan. Matt did give me an assignment. He wanted me to pass along a message.
Okay. Obviously, we're going to do the KS. Bar specials. Talk about it. Yeah, you have the exact
details, though, from Monique. So the games, the Dodgers Reds game started 9 o'clock tomorrow
night and Wednesday night. So we can't have a watch party. So we're going to have game
day specials throughout the day, all day here tomorrow and Wednesday. So where do the Reds play,
Drew? What's the name of their ballpark? Great American Ballpark. What do we have on our
menu? Great American Burger. The Great American
American burger.
A 60-year-old John Short.
Name for 60-year-old John Short is going to be reduced price,
Great American Burger all day tomorrow and Wednesday,
and Thursday, if there's a Thursday.
So it's a game day special, but there's more, Drew.
If you come into this KS bar and you're wearing Cincinnati Reds gear,
a hat, a shirt, like I have one.
What you're doing right now?
I was going to call you out on that.
I have a lemon reds jersey that my son wore when he was 12 years old and it fits me.
I was going to ask you what size.
Now you're telling me you're wearing your 12-year-old son's baseball jer.
This is about 10 years old when he was 12, wore the plate for the Reds.
I got his name on the back, so I brought it out today.
Because you wear your Reds gear, shirt, hat, hoodie, pants, you get a free side of fries.
Now, you can't just come in and get a free side of fries.
You've got to order something.
So free side of fries, when you order something, if you wear Reds gear.
So if you come in, get a Great American Burger, wear your red shirt, you get a discount on the burger,
and you get a free free side of fries.
Well, Matt wanted me to tell you that if it gets to Thursday,
even though it's 9 o'clock, that we're all meeting here,
and I guess he lands Thursday afternoon and is going to come straight here to watch the Reds.
So, you know, one game at a time.
So if they make it to Thursday.
I think Matt is going to land from South Africa in Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati,
wherever it is, but he's going to come straight to KS Bar
because he has missed the enthusiasm of the Reds playoff push
and he wants to be a part of it.
So maybe we will be watching.
watch part of partying Thursday night as he gets here, and that'll be your first time seeing him.
I've gotten to check up with him twice a week since he's been gone, but you'll get to hang
with Matt if it's game three.
Shannon, I saw the Dodgers are five and one over the Reds during the course of this past season,
though.
Yep, but it's a new season, so anything can happen, but I don't know.
I don't think the Reds have much of a chance.
We'll see what happens.
Meanwhile, if you're a Mets fan, Ryan, did you realize that August 1st, the Mets had a 95% chance
of making the postseason and completely crumbled.
So can you imagine being a Mets fan today after not making the playoffs?
And they were leading the N.O. East for a while.
Yes, they were.
And then don't make the playoffs.
They were a lock.
They were a lock.
And they just fell apart in August and September for sure.
And then the other part, I mean, not to get away from the Redstock,
but the other part of this is the fact that the Guardians were down 15 and a half games to the Tigers at one point in the season.
They came back and won the division.
And now they played each other in the first round on the AEO side.
There we go.
Yeah.
I just think back to that West Coast swing where Matt's like, oh, it's over.
Stupid Reds, take my tickets.
Ellie stinks, they all stink.
So-and-so lives by a river.
And then a month later, he's trying to hurry back to watch the playoffs.
This is a lesson in being patient and believing in your team.
Well, so Kentucky football fans, can they take note of this?
No, absolutely.
Don't get crazy, Ryan.
Jeez, Ryan, don't get crazy.
So, look, says this is the segment of good news.
Matt's coming back.
We did the show on Friday.
Redge in the playoffs, we've got Great American Burger on special all-day game day.
The other good news, the KSR Parley hit for the second time this season.
Let's go.
Let's go, KSR Parley.
So out of the first five weeks of the season, we hit for the second time,
which means if you played it...
I'm counting four since I wasn't here last week, so I'm saying four.
Two out of four.
You all, what you did last week was...
You went rogue.
I understand.
Completely understand.
But if you played both of them, you're pretty much covered for the rest of the season.
One of them was plus $750, the first.
one that's a huge hit.
It was a big hit.
This weekend was plus $4.50.
However, some people double-dipped.
If you listen to Friday's show, where's Mario?
Are you back there?
Mario, we love you.
But on Friday's show, we were having a hard time getting a pick that fit the format.
Remember, we were trying to pick winners.
You were going a little Oregon State plus 14 and a half.
We let you do it anyway.
But then we learned it's Friday night, which didn't fit the parlay.
Give people time to bet it.
But people who listen live bet both versions of the Mario Parlay.
They did the Kansas State that we eventually got to, and they also bet the Oregon State, and that one hit too.
So Mario, you could have double-dipped on the Mario version of the KSR pilot.
Unbelievable picking by you, Mario.
We all heard the analysis that went into it incredible work.
No analysis, none at all.
I'm just going with my gut.
What worked?
Oregon State almost went outright.
Don't know much about football.
When he picked Oregon State, we all kind of like, come on, man, what are you doing?
We're trying to win this thing here.
We kind of downplayed it.
and they would have won the bet.
They're up in the fourth quarter is 14.5.
Underdogs.
Y'all know I don't know anything about college football.
I barely watch it.
I just went with my gut.
I think what he meant to say is, heck yeah, 2 and 0 on to next week.
KSR Parlay.
Well, Matt will be back to be in the parley this week.
We might need the hot hand over here, though.
Matt might have to earn his way back in.
We'll let you be our Cincinnati Reds, KSR Parlay picker.
Okay.
All right.
Get us a Reds Parlay.
I'm down.
All right.
859-2802-287.
That's the Clark's Pubby Shop phone number.
We'll go to the phone lines.
AVision and Glass Text, I got a bunch of texts when Dusty was on.
Most of them are not positive.
This is a positive segment.
It is hard to be positive.
It is hard to be positive.
So let's talk about a couple other things.
Rider Cup.
I actually watched the end of the Rider Cup.
I thought we were going to be positive.
Well, the United States made a big run.
All of a sudden they were dead in the water,
and all of a sudden people were throwing beers in the air,
and Justin Thomas is throwing his putter everywhere.
It ended up being an exciting finish.
For a little while.
I'm proud that you watched it.
You know, was that last Thursday?
I was trying to teach you and Shannon to light golf, if only for one weekend.
So you got into it a little bit?
I did.
Even though we were getting smoked.
Had the split screen on, had an NFL game on one.
But I got into it because they made the United States made the big comeback.
Who was the dude to hit the big put before Justin Thomas hit his put?
I'll be honest.
I didn't believe in the team.
I was watching football yesterday.
I saw Thomas's put.
Yeah.
Bryson came back from Down Big.
Yeah.
Henley could have kept us alive.
He blew a lead late.
I don't know the exact part you're talking.
I know they were coming back and people were texting me like,
oh, here come the Americans.
They were just down so bad that I didn't have a lot of faith.
Even though I guess mathematically it could have happened.
Never really felt like they could do it.
But to their credit, they made it entertaining.
They did.
It made it very entertaining.
Very embarrassing weekend.
I had a Red Zone Titans' Multiview going on.
By the way, just Red Zone with another game at the same time is enough.
That's enough of a headache.
but I had the Ryder Cup over to the side.
I was trying to keep up, but just didn't have faith.
Also, we embarrassed ourselves as a country.
You said that.
Can we talk about it?
Yeah, please tell us those stories you heard.
I love the Ryder Cup because we yell and we taunt and the players get into it and they taunt back.
I feel like we were a little much.
Over the top.
Yeah, like somebody threw a drink and hit Rory's wife in the head.
They were yelling things you shouldn't yell.
Rory even backed off his ball one time and yelled, well, y'all shut the bleep up.
You know, like I get USA, USA.
and the roars.
We didn't carry ourselves very appropriately up there in New York for the weekend.
So we got not only did we get our butt-wooked, we also, I think the fans embarrassed ourselves a little bit.
Well, that's what Shannon wants on the golf course.
He wants that kind of crazy wrestler mentality.
Yeah, but honestly, I didn't watch any of it, so I can't barely.
But I think Shannon, you would agree we can't throw drinks and hit people's wives in the hand.
That's true.
You can't be doing that, as Uncle Andy would say.
Also, on that note, to go back to the game, Seth McGowan, can we bring up just,
hitting Lenores'
Seller's grandfather
with football
of all the people
and the grab to hit.
We're going to hit
the elderly grandpa.
Through a fastball,
hard as he could,
and I guess he was trying to hit the wall.
Yeah,
and he issued a quick apology.
He did.
Went a little,
went a little high
and hit Lenora's grandfather
right in the chest.
Of all people.
And he felt terrible about it.
He put out the immediate apology.
There's also a DM where he replied to someone
and he's admitting that he just feels awful
that he did it.
But I mean,
and things kind of went downhill from there.
80,000 people.
in that stadium and we hit Seller's.
Yeah, Lenora Sellers' grandpa in the end zone.
So not the best behavior all the way around.
That started the downfall.
From there on it just kind of went, they didn't score another touchdown.
The rest of the game, I couldn't believe that.
They couldn't find the end zone.
We had Mark Stoops trip over a chain.
That's true.
Yeah.
He fell down.
I didn't even see the first drive because I couldn't get flipped over.
I was trying to log into the app.
And at one point, if anyone else was watching the ESPN app,
it switched from Kentucky, South Carolina to professional pillow fighting.
It did.
Professional pillow fighting.
So I'm losing my mind.
Rupp 7-0, and I'm trying to get my TV changed, and I'm watching professional
pillow fighting.
Did you even know they had professional pillow fighting?
In that moment, I found out.
I thought it was a commercial.
I thought it was like some spoof commercial for some product.
And no, that's real.
They have professional pillow fighting.
I thought it went to a commercial because, you know, I'm on my computer.
We have a lot to do during games.
And it switched, and I thought it was an infomercial, and I'm at home,
and Abby's like, are we just going to continue to watch professional pillowv?
I didn't even realize that the game has done it automatically.
Same way.
There's a lot of chaotic things around the beat,
Down too.
Because the Tennessee Mississippi State game went into overtime when went late,
so that's what kind of covered up the first drive for Kentucky had.
I mean, Mississippi State, people thought they were the worst team in the SEC.
They should have beat Tennessee.
So now leapfrog Kentucky, I believe Kentucky now, undisputed.
I think the worst team in the SEC now.
One more fun viral stuff from the game.
Tom Hart was just, I couldn't keep up.
I was writing down.
I'm sorry if that's a topic.
Yeah, it is.
I know we're close to a break.
Don't talk about it.
Since we were on it.
Yes.
I think I counted six or seven.
I even texted him at one point to confirm one that I thought I heard and couldn't go back and find.
I only heard three.
Much more than three.
Okay, I heard him say something about being sucker punched.
The first one I heard, he said something about pumping shop pretty early in the game.
That's the one I had to get confirmation.
I didn't even catch that one.
There was sucker punched.
When South Carolina went up 10-7, he said something like South Carolina up three Biggins.
Yes, I went biggins.
I heard that.
He said something about penguins and a safari.
He said you see a turdice like seeing a tortoise one day and then penguins the next day.
Yeah, and then at one point, let's just say maybe he was taking requests.
Maybe?
Maybe.
You got anything else?
Maybe somebody texting him requests?
And I mentioned my guy, Manny, who I've talked about last week,
anytime there's a penalty or like a foul in basketball, he yells, you can't do that.
So at least twice after a penalty flag, both times on Kentucky, unfortunately.
You can't do that.
You can't do that for me.
But Tom was, we were getting our butt kicked on the field, but Tom at least kept it entertaining
with the KSRisms.
That's why they just need to make it a prerogative.
He needs to do every single Kentucky game.
Every single one.
Just let him do it because we love him doing it.
Like you said,
at least we're getting our butt kick.
At least he made it entertaining for us at times with his commentary.
Anybody else listen?
They all fit in.
It's not like he's going rogue and messing up the broadcast.
It fits right in.
You just, you know, if you know, you know, if you don't, you don't.
Well, you tell Tom next time you talk to him,
I'm still waiting for my iPad that I order from him off Twitter.
I still haven't gotten that yet.
I'm waiting for it.
Is he back on?
No, he's still hacked.
He's still hacked on there.
Oh, my.
And he's been hacked for like a month now.
So, yeah, we've got to get Tom back on Twitter.
All right, well, take our break, come back.
If you got something you want to talk about the Kentucky football game, Tom Hart, the Reds, Rider Cup, we've got a lot more little topics we need to get to.

This is the good life and this you're listening to right now is Bad Bunny,
Ryan, who was announced as the Super Bowl halftime performer.
Are you a Bad Bunny fan?
I do not know anything Bad Bunny sing,
but I know every time Matt ask a question about downloads or iTunes or Spotify,
KS Bar trivia, Bad Bunny is always one of the answers.
He's always listed, so he must be extremely popular.
Well, I think Taylor Swift had some interest in being the halftime performer,
but she had a few demands.
The NFL wasn't willing to play ball,
so we ended up with Bad Bunny.
That was announced last night during the halftime of the Packers Cowboys game,
which you didn't stay up and watch.
Which I heard the final score while I was in the shower this morning listening to the pre-show.
I had no idea.
More breaking pre-show news.
Breaking pre-show news.
I'm in a shower, and Billy and Shannon's talking about.
the 40 to 40 tie last night
the Packers and the Cowboys like oh I didn't know that
The more I learn about
Ryan learning news from the pre-show
The more I think you all need an Emmy for like best
Best news source
Not Emmy whatever a radio award is
But you are truly delivering news to people every morning
At least to Ryan
During the commercial break
Shannon delivered breaking news he said it's not breaking news
I said it is breaking news so go ahead and play it Shannon
Okay if you say so here we go
I just wanted to hear it
Okay
What's your breaking news Shannon
Well, college game day is coming to Tuscaloosa for Alabama Vanderbilt this Saturday.
Can you believe that ESB in college game day will be coming?
Not just Alabama, but for Alabama Vanderbilt.
It's the first time since I think it's the first time since 1937 that both Vandy and Alabama have been ranked in the top 25 while playing each other.
So first time.
You know what happened last year?
I like the breaking news here.
Yeah, you know what happened last year they played each other?
Nashville, Vandy pulled the big upset.
Yeah, their fans carried the goalpost out of the stadium all the way down to the, what was it?
I don't know what river that is.
They took it all the way down Broadway and dumped the goalpost into the river.
So I think it's going to be a little bit different in Alabama, but you never know.
You never know.
Vandy's been playing really well.
859-280-2287.
We've got a couple callers up, so let's get to one of them, Shannon.
Who we got?
All right.
Let's go to Philip.
Philip, go ahead, Philip.
Hey, guys.
Thank you for taking my call.
just heartbreaking,
witnessing this every year,
watching South Carolina outperform us.
Some of my best memories as a young man was with my father.
I remember watching the Stevie got loose
and watching us be LSU back in the day.
And just it's heartbreaking to where the football program is now,
especially like, so my father is,
he's a very sick man, he's got advanced cancer.
And he made the comments other day.
He said, you know, when something,
happens to me when I die.
I want you to see if you can get Mark Stoops
to be one of the
Paul Bears at my funeral so he can let me down one last
time.
I'm glad he still has a sense of humor, though.
Absolutely.
I want to share that with you guys and kind of
get it all out there and appreciate
y'all taking my call.
Appreciate the phone call.
The conversations about Stoops
and the coaching staff and the buyout and making a change,
it's not going to go away.
It's something we're going to have to deal with, I think,
the rest of the season,
because I don't think they're going to get any better as the season gets on.
No, and it's stuff that we're, like, seeing the same problems over and over.
That's what makes it so frustrating.
I know Mitch and Stoops tried to call this a one-year blip in the summer,
but, you know, not winning a home SEC game in a couple of years.
That's not a one-year blip.
Little things, like being the most tenured coach in the SEC
and watching players trip over themselves to try to get lined up a few weeks ago at home,
some of the end of the half stuff.
It's not like you're losing on a last second field goal and you were in it and were this close
and oh, this player didn't pan out in the portal just missed at that position or, oh, no, this injury.
It's stuff that it's like how are we having these same conversations at this point?
So Arkansas makes a move.
They fire Sam Pittman and promote our old buddy Bobby Petrino, who is offensive coordinator.
They promote him to interim head coach here in the middle of the year.
What do your thoughts about that move?
Arkansas made.
They went ahead and decided they're not waiting around.
We're going to make the move right now, and you bring back a guy that you left in disgrace one other previous time in Arkansas.
A lot of people saw that news and sent it to me and probably emailed to Mitch.
Like, see, it can be done.
I know that was a big talking point when Arkansas made that call over the weekend.
My bigger takeaway on that is on the Patrino side.
We get Bobby 2.0 or is it Bobby 2.2?
2.2?
This is the second time he's gone back and done this, which is wild.
And, you know, Louisville was one thing, but now he's going back to the motorcycle neck brace situation in Arkansas.
Left in shame.
I mean, they already welcomed back.
He was on the staff.
But the fact that he's the head coach for a second time at a second stop.
That's loony.
Shannon, what are your thoughts about it is, you know, Arkansas is not waiting around to the end of the year.
They went ahead and make the move now.
Well, yeah, they had a little bit of a different situation.
I mean, Sam Pittman's buyout, I think, was a little over $9 million.
So, what, a fourth of what, Mark Stewart?
buyout is, so I think that had a lot to do with it.
But if I'm Arkansas, I mean, you just got to look and see what happened at Louisville with
Bobby Petrino.
Didn't work out either time really there.
So it kind of feels desperate a little bit.
I feel like Arkansas probably could have just played out the rest of the season and then, you know, got a better coach.
But here they are with Petrino.
We'll see if it works out for them.
It makes us, you know, now really hate Arkansas because they got Petrino and Calipari.
So I feel like on football and basketball, they're now the most hateable team in the SEC.
I agree, agree with those two guys.
859-2-80-2-8-7 Spider-Man walking in now here at KS Bar and Grill.
Hey, Spider-Man.
What's up, Chris?
Who's next, Shannon?
Well, the truth is up next.
The truth!
Yeah.
Your Indiana Hoosiers' Truth are still beating people.
You egg-sucking dog?
Well, I got three, I got three questions.
I want y'all to answer.
The first thing, we got Indiana got seven games left.
Y'all already put them in the playoff.
Then the second thing, what did y'all do you?
think about that number three from
Kentucky throwing the water bottle
hitting the quarterback grandson.
He seen it on a big
TV and went off on.
And the third thing, OBW
is coming to
Osborne's sports seminar
first, and I want to make
a challenge to
Goof-Nake, Nick Coffee,
and Brian Lemons.
I got me a partner,
Scott Kramer, bring it on,
and put
your hair up, Brian Landis.
He wants your hair.
Truth, throwing a hammer down.
Yeah, you don't have any hair
in the tape.
Well, you have some, I guess, but no, I don't.
Truth trying to hit below the belt here with that.
Good to hear from him.
Yeah, good to hear from the truth, but I don't know if that is ever going to happen.
Yeah, go put your speed on and we'll talk to you.
We'll take our break.
Come back.

Do you want to give a shout out to some one of our buddies here?
I do want to give a shout out.
We're sitting here on the KS bar patio, and my guy, Stephen Peake drives by.
He's on his way to the Mark Stoop's press conference.
Obviously, I see he's cutting corners here in Lexington using our parking lots.
He got to wave to wave at him.
He was in the zone.
He's got to get over there to record this big press conference coming up at noon.
But it reminded me we owe him Stephen a congratulations.
Before?
He recently got married to the love of his life, Jacqueline,
Just a couple of Sundays.
I didn't even know they were engaged.
Yes, they were engaged.
They did a small wedding in Louisville.
He did an amazing video that he put out on private social media.
It's a little private, but it's like a love letter to her that he spent a, I can't imagine how much time he put on into it.
Everyone that follows KSR and YouTube knows what a good job Stephen does with our videos,
but want to congratulate him and Jacqueline for getting married recently.
Well, congratulations.
That's a good shout out to give a, on a day we need some good news, something to feel good about after the loss to South Carolina.
He works really hard for us, including, like, we got a football podcast today too.
Shout out.
He'll be on the back end of that.
And as I said, Stoops, that's news on its own.
We'll hear from Stoops at noon.
This show will be over, but he's over there and record that.
We'll hear a little more about what he saw on the tape and any quarterback updates.
859-2-287.
Shannon's hand, Lines are Fool.
So let's get a couple calls up.
Who we got, buddy?
Let's go to Brad.
Brad.
Go ahead, Brad.
Hey, guys.
I just think it's crazy that everybody blames Stoop.
so much when obviously he can only do so much when we're not spending enough money to buy
competitive athletes against the rest of the SEC.
I mean, if we're not going to put up money, if we're not going to pony up the money like
he asked for a few years ago, everybody dogs him for his salary.
But it's like if you're not going to go buy the players that you're now allowed to buy,
you're not going to compete.
I mean, you had the cash from all these other schools for so long for how good they were
traditionally.
and now they've got more money they're spending.
So it's like two-fold against us to win.
And if we're not going to put any money in football to get those players,
we're never going to compete.
I mean, it's just the way it is.
And no matter who you have coaching, it doesn't matter who it is.
If they don't have top-quality players, especially at those skill positions,
quarterback, defensive line, secondary, offensive line.
I mean, we're just not going to be able to compete.
And it doesn't sound like the,
the, you know, athletic department cares enough to do that.
I appreciate the phone call.
Great point, and we're hearing that a lot.
Do they have the horses in the stable?
Can they get the horses in the stable to compete in the SEC?
I mean, they can't compete with Alabama, LSU, Georgia.
That's just never going to happen.
But you can be better than losing every home game for two years.
Losing to South Carolina four years in a row.
Yeah, you can be much better than this.
The money, I'll hear you out if you want to start talking about SEC championships
and winning 10 games every year.
I'll absolutely meet you there.
But money has nothing to do with the problems they have right now.
Yeah.
And like, you know.
You still got enough horses to beat Vanderbill your last two games at home.
And, you know, Vandy has shown you can go out and get a quarterback and change everything.
Pavia's been awesome.
Yep.
But, you know, yes, the landscape, you also have to have a coach that can go out and find the Pavius.
You know, Brock Vandigriff retired last year.
Zach Kalsada, his story's not written yet, but there's already been a quarterback change.
Part of that's injury, not all on him.
Before that, you know, Leary, I guess he's on a Ravens practice squad right now,
but even Leary didn't really work out.
Didn't work out here as well.
You've had plenty of opportunities and different coordinators
to go out and find the program changers, too, at the quarterback spot.
And so far not so good there either.
Maybe Calzada gets another shot, unlikely, who knows?
Maybe Cutters the future.
But we have year after year outside of Levis.
The quarterback play just hasn't been when it needs to be to compete.
And, you know, he's handpicking those guys.
Let's get another call, Shannon.
Who we got?
Bubba.
Bubba.
Go ahead.
Bubba.
Hey, thanks for taking my call.
You know, we've been talking the same story for a bunch of years.
I think it's time to realize and call it like it is, is that Kentucky's a basketball school.
Their football program, if they can go six and six and get into a bowl game occasionally, that's great.
But I think, too, that, you know, Mark Stoops got us out of the gutter.
I mean, he got us back up and did great.
Did a super job, you know, got us into some decent bowl games.
But I think there's only a few guys out there coach-wise that could sustain several years at the same place.
And you just need change every so many years.
It's just, it's not working.
Yeah, and, but in the...
Well, I appreciate it, Bubba.
Yeah, I appreciate the phone call.
Thank you very much, because that brings up a point I'm hearing a lot now.
This Mark Stoop's era is starting to feel eerily familiar to what John Colopery had his last couple years here,
where it just kind of to go stale went south a little bit, and it was time for a change in basketball.
A lot of people are saying that same thing about football now.
Oh, yeah, definitely.
I see it just, you know, media stuff.
Remember Cal before it was over, he had the summer where it's like,
He wouldn't do anything like, is even in Lexington?
Then he finally did his mandatory press conference,
and he had that line, real G's moving silence like lasagna,
the little Wayne line, but he's basically saying,
I'm being quiet for a reason, not making headlines.
Stoops did that all year.
He's doing the same thing this spring and summer.
And I don't want to defend himself saying,
I'm doing just as many as I've done in the past.
It's not the amount.
It's like you're not saying anything.
You can tell you're intentionally not trying to give anything to the media.
I mean, there's that.
The results are changing.
I mean, it's definitely in line.
I mentioned this earlier too, though.
Football will never have like an NCAA tournament
where you can be a two-seat and lose to a 15,
and it's just obvious.
I mean, you're playing these SEC teams,
and there's not going to be a clear, hard stop.
We're just going to decide,
all right, how many is too many losses in a row in the SEC?
Because there never will be the obvious,
I cannot believe we lost to that team.
Unless it's Tennessee Tech this year.
That would be one of them.
That would be bad.
Right now you are the worst team in the SEC.
Yes, and I don't think anyone's debating that.
Mississippi State might have been in the conversation, and they almost beat Tennessee.
859-2-2-287.
Let's get another one, Shannon.
Who we got?
Mike.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Hey, guys, thanks for taking my call.
Two quick questions.
First off, is KSR going to come down to Auburn when Kentucky comes down to play?
Nick Ross, Adam Luckett, Stephen Peek, those guys will probably be there.
The radio show will not be there.
No.
Second question.
Our offensive coordinators,
Futs Hand and Liam,
Rich,
all of these coaches were successful
before coming to Kentucky.
The common denominator
amongst all those guys is Mark Stoops.
I mean,
does he put some type of stranglehold on these guys
to limit what they can do
because it seems to happen every year?
They hire new ones.
They turn out not to be a good hire.
That,
appreciate it.
That was kind of a topic the last couple of years until Hamden got here,
and it seems like Hanon does have more control.
We've had people say, Stoops lets the guys call their own plays.
Whether you believe it or not, people behind the scenes have said that.
He lets the guys call their own plays.
And he's even said it this season that he doesn't get involved.
I know when they had the end of the first half meltdown a few weeks ago
in his post-game press conference, he was like,
I was just telling him to run anything, just get out there.
but maybe you're not in their ear saying every play
but you're overseeing the roster and the style of play
and they know what they're trying to match
like he went out and loaded up on the offensive line this year
that's a very expensive offensive line you have
it is very experienced very expensive
yeah and then to get back to a run game
so maybe you're not in the coordinator's ear
but the coordinator knows what you're trying to do overall
before we go to a break I got to ask you one other question
you know the name Sean Alexander
Oh, yeah.
Boone County High School, went to Alabama, went to the Seahawks, MVP of the league.
He announced that him and his wife are expecting a baby.
Do you know what number baby this is for Sean Alexander and his wife?
I did see this.
It's in the teens.
Was it 14?
14.
This is their 14th child.
My good.
Now, he did.
They did have one child that died, I think, as an infant, some health issues.
but his Sean Alexander and his wife are expecting their 14th child.
I mean, he's got an entire basketball roster.
You're the only parent on this show.
What's like, and you had, you know, three at one time running around.
How do you even corral 14?
You can't.
Like, how would, I mean, you obviously have to play a little zone with your wife here just to even.
I've had some friends who have like a bunch of kids and they separate them into groups.
You got the bigs, the middles, and the little.
each big is assigned to a little.
So you're responsible for
changing the diapers or feeding them or whatever.
And the middles have to take care of themselves.
You're on your own.
You're on your own.
You're on your own middles.
Maybe you're helping one and you see chaos on the other side of the house.
You just can't help.
Can't help.
Do you think he does roll call every day like before the,
like when they all wake up?
Like your class, you got in front of me.
Make sure you're not missing one somewhere.
How do you know you take off and go on a family vacation?
How do you're not missing one?
You forgot one back in the bathroom or something.
Kevin?
Now, he's, I assume, doing all right financially with his career,
but I think about when you have a family that big,
just a simple dinner through McDonald's or, like, I mean, what you're spending.
Cost you $200 to go through McDonald's drive-thru.
No, what do you have, like, do you buy a church van, one of those big long vans to get people around us?
There's a family in my neighborhood.
They've got probably 10.
They've got a big, huge passenger van that they haul their kids around in.
I can barely take care of myself.
I can't imagine having 14 other tiny humans
I'm with you to rely on them.
I'm with you.
Congratulations to the Alexander's on number 14.
To the young, happy couple with their 14th child.
Also, a Kentucky legend doesn't get talked about enough.
Absolutely.
One of the greatest running backs of our generation,
and he played right up the road at Boone County High School.
He was the MVP of the NFL.
Yes, he was.
Not just kind of good.
When the MVP.
He went to Alabama and was there featured back for several years down there.
Yeah.
So Shane Bill Curry,
and getting him to come to Kentucky. We'll take our break. Come back. Our final segment. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

in, I think, the next couple days. I'm going to do this on Thursday. If there is a game three,
I want a Reds hat and a Doug Flynn t-shirt.
Nice. Well, when we had the KSR day, when I nailed the match game, I had the dress as a red.
Had your Doug Flynn shirt on. Yeah.
Still Braves guy, though. Let's not get it twisted.
Before we go back to the phone lines, I do need to the reference.
one more note we need to mention. We mentioned Sean Alexander from Northern Kentucky.
Northern Kentucky basketball player, Tay Kenny from Newport High School, picks Kansas.
And they said his final three was what, Kansas, Louisville, and Arkansas. Kentucky wasn't
even in the finals, and I thought Kentucky was in good standing with him for a long time.
But Tay Kenny, who now plays for overtime elite, grew up in Newport, Kentucky going to play at Kansas.
I saw him in middle school at an eighth grade tournament. He was a seventh
grader, he was the best player on the floor.
Best player on the floor is a seventh grader.
Yeah, and now he's considered one of the best
point guards in the country. Really, my
takeaway on this is what a whiff by
Pat Kelsey. We heard all the
whiff, whiff, whiff out of Louisville last
spring about Pope. Let me
talk about their whiff, because they were
counting this as a win forever ago.
Same with the Caleb Wilson kid, they
didn't get either. I mean, but
they get locked in, they talk their
noise way too early in a recruitment, and
this is what happens. So whiff, wiffity whiff,
Whiff, Whiff, Louisville.
And you're not point guard you, so calm down.
That's true if they were point guard you, they would have to talk about that while I was gone, by the way.
That was the dumbest comment ever.
It was.
Pat Kelsey, has he forgotten that just last year in the last game, Kentucky's point guard was perfect from the field with 31 points against your team?
How about that?
It was literally a perfect basketball game as a point guard.
So eat it, Pat Kelsey.
Whiff wiff-wiff-wiff-wiff-wiff-wif-wiff on take-in it.
He is Drew Franklin, and that's why he's the best.
I will say, you can tell you recruited him too,
but we'd rather have a good luck to take any.
You watch them in middle school.
He's from Northern Kentucky.
Want him to have a good career.
But as far as with the cats,
they're in with a lot of other guys.
We might have a second year low.
Hopefully he's a one and done low here, but we'll see.
But I don't think this impacts Kentucky too bad.
But Louisville was counting this as done for a while.
So with.
And the people who think the shoe deals don't make a difference.
Kansas is an Adidas school.
Yes.
Thank you for adding that.
Guess what overtime elite is in Adidas school?
And Louisville.
You can't blame Nike on this one.
It stayed in your own brand.
That's correct.
Whiff.
Whiffity whiff, whiff.
Yeah, all the whiffs.
Point guard you.
God, that was the dumbest comment.
Who's up next, Shannon?
Name a Louisville point guard, Ryan.
Chuckie Hepburn.
Okay, he was all right.
How did he do last year?
He was the second best point guard in the game.
In the state.
The second best point guard in the state, yeah.
Who we got you?
Who did you say it was?
Call it down, Kelsey.
Joe.
Joe, go ahead, Joe.
Hey, how you guys doing?
How you, Joe? All right.
Surviving, guys.
Surviving.
Hey, two comments.
One of those positives, I guess, one's sort of negative,
but everybody needs to get off the fire stoop's train.
It's not going to happen.
They just need to shut up, put their energy someplace else.
And another thing with Cutter Bowley,
this guy is going to be a quarterback.
I mean, Alabama and everybody, his brother wouldn't have been recruited the hat.
If they'll remember back, Andre Woodson,
couldn't hang on to the ball when he first started playing.
Now look at what Andre Woodson done.
You're just going to have to give some time.
I say bring that offensive coordinator out of that booth down on the field,
get a Dusty Bonner to work with Cutter Bowley on his short five and 10-yard passes
and have some fun to see.
There we go.
Appreciate the phone call.
Could have asked Dusty when he was here earlier if you want to help work on the short-passing game.
I think there's still a lot of people that still believe in Cutter Bowley.
Obviously, he's got the talent, like he said,
about wanting him.
Everybody was recruiting him.
He just, not his best game he had Saturday.
No, that's what I said earlier.
I think fans are still behind him and want him to work out.
I agree.
I agree.
I mean, when he committed, we all want the homegrown quarterback to work out.
You thought you had that with Drew Barker years ago, but injuries held him back.
Tolls had a pretty good run, but it's always better when it's one of your own.
We want it to work.
And I think most people are in agreement that, you know, it was a tough spot.
We can't grade a second-year quarterback in his first road start like that.
At the same time, it did not go well.
I mean, he could have very easily had more interceptions than he did.
So it was disappointing first look at him on the road,
but most fans want this to work,
because it will be a lot more fun moving forward
if Bowley is the option looking good than having to go back to portal shopping.
Who's next, Shannon? Who we got?
Shannon.
Shannon. Go ahead, Shannon.
This morning on Tom's show,
he made a reference to the Marlins playing WKRP's theme song
during the game last night.
I thought that was a pretty good gig.
at the Marlins.
But as far as the coaching staff goes, the UK,
I'm kind of curious why Kentucky, we know our place on the food chain,
especially in the SEC.
Why don't they go to a productive D2 offensive coordinator
and bring them in and try to get us going like the way they've given Popin opportunity?
You guys have a great day.
Love the show.
Appreciate the phone call.
What do you think, Drew?
I mean, that's, Dusty was saying that most first hour.
You've got to do something to bring some new life.
Like he even said, like, you're not going to out Georgia, Georgia.
Georgia's always going to have better players.
Yes.
So if you're just trying to match styles, you're always going to be playing from behind.
And that's a good comparison.
Like Kentucky's tried to be a mini-Georgia,
way they built their roster a lot of times.
And that's good to win a lot of games, especially if you're the better opponent.
But you're not going to knock down that door and really get excitement.
Like Vandy went out and got that, I think Jerry Kill or Crill or Jerry Kill, I think is his
name from New Mexico State.
I had the Pavia connection.
No one really knew who Pavia was where Vandy goes and gets them.
Sure, it's a bit of a gamble.
But you see what happens when you go find that diamond in the rough.
Vendie is on fire.
I thought we were going to beat Vandy this year.
I thought he might take a step backwards.
I mean, but they look so good.
And if Vandy can do it, it's like, well, even if you are playing a little bit behind,
it's been proven it can happen.
It's just a matter of having a coach that can go out and find those right pieces.
One more call, Shannon.
Who we got?
quickly. Let's go to Brent.
Brent, you got like 30 seconds.
All right, guys, listen, I just want to give a big shout out to Billy R. Sports
with his expert picks on Cover Zero with Jackson Dart running touchdown.
