Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday.
September the 4th, I'm Matt Jones here in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Mint with Draft Kings to get you ready for the first NFL game of the season to night, Eagles and Cowboys.
We are located right off of Scouts.
Scottsville Road near the mall, a Draft King Sportsbook.
There's a top golf swing suite.
I didn't realize that.
Horse racing wagering, a winter circle bar, and much more.
500 ways to win here at the Mint in Bowling Green.
Great crowd this morning on a terribly rainy day outside.
I feel like every time we come to Bowling Green, it pours rain, unfortunately, but we are here.
You can give Shadler Clark's Pump and Shop phone line 859-280-2287.
A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine, 772, 774, and this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, if you'll call T.J., he'll make them pay. Ryan, great crowd this morning. We had some folks, unfortunately, couldn't get it. I forgot that you have to be 21 to come to a gaming facility. But nevertheless, Kentucky fans everywhere, and even in this part of the state, wherever you go, blue's there.
A lot of red usually you get over here in the Topper land with Louisville, not too far away, but the blue always.
shows up when we come to Bowling Green has every time we've been here.
Leave the Western Kentucky fans aside because I don't think that's mutually exclusive.
What would you say it's Kentucky Louisville here in Bowling Green?
910, 9010, I would say that's right.
Because, you know, who wants to be?
Ultimately, I mean, Gus is here one of our bosses and he's a Louisville fan and that's terrible.
But besides him, I don't know why you would want to do that.
He's got his arms up.
Like, what do you call him me out for?
Yeah, I mean, it is.
It's a terrible decision just so, you know.
He actually works on the Louisville games.
Boo!
Bo!
He was on the Louisville football postgame show this weekend.
I heard he's the mascot.
No, I'm just kidding.
It was nice of him to make sure we'd get situated.
But glad to be in Bowen Green.
I was trying to think of the times we've been here, Ryan, right?
We've been here.
We were here last year.
We were at the orchard place with ice cream.
Cheney's milk barn, berry barn.
That's right.
We've done, I feel like we did a restaurant here once.
What?
Yes, the equipment place.
I like that Marcia knows everywhere we've been.
Well, Marsha, listen, you'll like this, Marcia.
I was in, you know, as with most at the time, 46-year-old men,
when I went to Europe, my mom came and cleaned out my house.
That's what most middle-aged men do.
And she was going through my room of junk and, like, helping me get
rid of stuff. But one of the things we found, which we did not get rid of, is that very nice photo
album. You've given me of the tours we've taken sometimes over the years. And I went back and looked
at all the places we've been. It's really amazing. Yeah, I've got one that Marcia made for me,
and it includes a lot of our stops down in Nashville when she's been down there. So I was trying to
think of her in Bowling Green. One of our early first shows we ever did was at a golf course here
in Bowling Green, and it was like 150 degrees. Oh, yeah, that's right. It was like super hot.
We were outside. I forgot about that. We were, we were. We were, we were.
We were at a sports bar at one point, I think, downtown.
So we've been here quite a bit.
I eat here a lot in my very, the grill.
What's it, Montana?
Is that right?
I end up, and then there was a sports bar.
Somebody took me to double dogs.
Double dogs.
Is that a place?
Yeah.
I was just there a few months ago.
So you never know where you're going to end up in Bowling Green's.
Is Western good this year?
Yes.
All right.
New offense.
New quarterback.
We're good.
Maverick.
His name's Maverick.
think right that's a good name for a quarterback that is a great name all right so 859 280 2287 a lot of
stuff to get to you got your first NFL game tonight uh which we'll touch on but um I think two
things I want to start with first of all um it is amazing you know we had our first football game
Saturday we play old miss uh this coming Saturday there's a lot going on we launch an NFL podcast
yesterday and everywhere I went yesterday all anybody wanted to ask me was
okay how's the traffic situation now after your community meet that's it's amazing what people
focus on i walked out of my house there were these two sweet ladies who i they could not have
been sweeter and they were coming to the park and they turned on my road and they rolled down the
window and they say matt where should we park where we won't upset you how sweet is that
what you tell them not in my driveway i said i showed them the place by the time i got
home later that day they had put signs up that said no parking on the other side of the road
nevertheless a bunch of vagrant criminals were still parking on that side of the road
but never it's a good start so that's getting better but i'm glad they were so sweet
and one of them said uh that she listens every day she even got a little saucy drew she said i
go to bed with you every single night that's what she said wow and i was like i wondered who that was
but uh it was very sweet of well at least your message is getting across even if you're
You are.
It kind of sounds like you put some fear in people.
They're having to ask if they're allowed to park there.
Now people know.
Now they know.
I did hear somebody about your parking situation.
I was going to bring this up.
They,
at a busy day like Saturday or Sunday,
they can't get in there and toll cars away.
I know.
That was brought up at the meeting.
There's no place to turn it around.
The tow truck couldn't even fit back there.
Couldn't sit back in there to get them.
It's,
you know,
that's why I'm saying arrest.
That's the only,
that's the only,
uh,
multiple felony arrest, and then I'll be satisfied.
Kentucky and Ole Miss play Saturday 3.30.
We've talked a lot about it.
Lane Kiffin was asked more about the game yesterday.
He had three comments, which I thought were interesting,
and I thought Drew were all sort of passive, aggressive,
regular Lane Kiffinness.
First of all, he compared Zach Kalsata to Joe Flacco.
He said he's been playing since he's been playing.
for 14 years.
It was kind of making a hit, like, should this guy still be playing football?
And he said, but the thing about him is he won't beat you, or excuse me, he won't lose the game
for you.
We have to, I think he said, we have to make him make plays.
So I think that gives you a hint that they're going to say, hey, Zach, can you throw
the ball down field on us?
We don't necessarily think you can't.
Yeah, and I don't like when guys get digs on my team, but I'll admit,
I laughed at the Joe Flacco comment.
He even said guys thrown for like 9,000 yards,
really leaning into how much football Calzada has played.
But the reason he's going to make Calzada throw it deep
is because I hate to say Calzada lost A&M the game there,
but A&M was ranked 11th in Oxford and four or five years ago
and Calzada threw two fourth quarter interceptions trying to make plays.
So Kiffin has seen it happening.
He's going to try to recreate that.
And we really saw nothing from the Toledo game
that gives you any confidence that Kentucky can do that.
Go downfield and throw the ball downfield right now.
Yeah, we'll see what they do.
But it was clear he kind of thought that he was given a hit a little dig at Calzada being in college as long.
He was asked about Kentucky's performance at the Toledo game, and he said, I do not care.
And it was interesting.
I think he meant this as a compliment, but you can also take it not as a compliment.
But I do think he meant it as a compliment.
He said something to the effect of with a Mark Stoop's team, you can never judge them based on what they did the week before, which honestly is probably true.
I mean, his point was they got absolutely demolished by South Carolina last year and then went down to Ole Miss and won the game.
And he said also they don't even necessarily play the same from one week to the other.
They'll have one style one week and then a different style the next week.
Now, I think he meant that as a compliment basically saying don't read too much into the fact that the Toledo game didn't necessarily go great.
But you could also say, like, with Mark, you kind of never know whether the team's going to show up or not.
Yeah, well, he, of all people knows, I think Ole Miss was like a 13 and a half point favorite last year in that game.
You lose at home.
Two years before that, in Oxford, you're a big favorite.
You know, you're used to count in the Kentucky game kind of as a win.
And if not for a little penalty, you've won two and I won that one.
So Kiffin, of all coaches in the league knows not to sleep on Kentucky.
You know, I can see why Kiffin says that.
But I think all the other coaches in the SEC might be saying we know exactly what Marks is going to do.
He did say, well, I think he meant you don't know what the effort's going to be from game.
That's how I said.
He did say, though, they hit as hard as any team in the league.
He said, and that is still the case this year.
He was like, even when they don't play well, they hit as hard as any team in the league,
and he said, our players have to know that.
And they had to get back to that.
I think they strayed away from that last year.
The one of the last two years, Bill, used to it was their MO.
We're going to be tough.
We're going to be strong.
We're going to be more physical than you are.
Okay, get back to that type of football.
Get back to that Mark Stoops type of football.
And then he also said what we've sort of hinted at or thought,
about in the show. He said, he was explicit, we have prepared for this game all summer. He said,
we watched Kentucky film all summer. That game has stuck with us all summer to the returning players.
We've brought this game back all summer. And he said, we are more, his words were, we are more
prepared for this game than we've been for a game in a long time. You know, Kevin's really smart.
You know, he may be whatever, but I respect people that are smart.
When it comes to college coaches, I would put Lane Kiffin in like the top 10 of just raw intelligence.
And so that makes me a little nervous if they spent all summer getting ready for it.
Yeah, you got a target from stealing the one last year that essentially ended their playoff hopes.
This year, they're not as much as considered a playoff consider as they were a year ago,
but they're ranked 15th, 20 or something like that.
And then their schedule this year is really back heavy.
So if they can win this game,
they have a little bit of a cushion,
more non-conference teams,
like another winnable SEC game.
So they could really be looking at making the turn
with an undefeated record if they can win this one
and hang on for a few hours.
Yeah, I think they got a loaded.
They should be five and oh.
And then you're right,
they play like three or four very difficult games
to the end of the year.
But if you're old miss and you have any dreams of making the playoff,
you cannot lose this game for a second year in a row.
And if you're Lane Kiffin and you want to continue
to get given
bagillions of dollars for NIL,
like you've got to beat Kentucky,
and you can't lose to them two years in a row.
Dude, we knew they've been waiting all summer
for this rematch.
That's what scares me to death about this game.
They not only want to win.
They want to embarrass Kentucky.
They want to bury Kentucky,
and he will.
He'll just keep piling it on if he gets a chance.
There was one of the SEC podcast said there
have been a couple of assistant coaches
in sort of anonymous comments,
say, Lane Kiffin wants to use the exact word
you just did embarrass Kentucky on Saturday. Again, so, you know, I will say that if you're in the
game in the fourth quarter, you have a chance. What is more likely? We're in the four, let's not
leave aside away, in the game in the fourth quarter where you have a chance, maybe a turnover
here or there, or embarrassed. I think they're in it. That defense gave me a lot of hope last week.
That's what's giving me confidence this week. They have a new
quarterback that they've been looking forward to see what they have for a while he waited his turn
behind dart they won like 70 to 1 last week but he did throw two interceptions against the georgia
state team so if they can create some pressure and maybe get him to have a couple more turnovers
throw a few more picks then i think you're in it you know it's supposed to rain a lot Saturday morning
but supposed to quit by the afternoon so that is the current weather right it's like raining all night
Friday night stop around pregame show time right isn't that what the idea is see i hope it is
to rain. I think just pouring that and help us.
We have a business that needs people there, just for the record. But go ahead.
But I think on the field, you know, we're just going to be able to ground and pound it in
some nasty weather. I think that plays to our favor, and they can't throw it around everywhere.
We would like, I mean, I think we would prefer, if you're just talking about winning the game,
you would prefer, if not nasty weather, it be slippery. I mean, like things to slow them down, right?
If we're just talking about winning the game and not the experience, Kentucky probably wants a hurricane
every Saturday to just slow it up and fuck it up.
But this one especially against Ole Miss,
a team with some tempo, new quarterback.
We would want the worst weather.
Yeah.
I mean, our first shutout in forever last year was in a lightning delay,
so we're good under the elements.
Now, I might come on the post game show Saturday night
with a Mia Culpa and say I was wrong.
But I agree with you that I think they have a better chance
of being in this game than getting just demolished because of our defense.
I mean, ultimately, our defense,
tends to keep us in games.
Now, the counter to that is, if you go back and look at the years that we've had decent
teams, but we've been kind of embarrassed, it's playing teams like Old Miss.
Like teams with tempo have always – we've always actually played pretty well against the
Georges of the world and the Alabama's like teams that pound you.
It's teams like this that have always given us problems, but we did beat them last year.
So –
Yeah, they're going to have more speed.
They're probably better on the outside.
but I think Kentucky in the trenches,
if they play anything like they did last week against Toledo
can carry it up a level to an SEC opponent.
I mean, they were really getting after Toledo.
If they can keep that up, Kentucky will be okay.
I thought the defense was great against Toledo.
They gave up that last touchdown at the end of the game
was like, what, two minutes left,
and kind of a meaningless touchdown.
Up to that point, I thought the defense proved, man,
they can go out and play as good as anybody in the SEC.
So I think the defense will keep them in a lot of these games this season.
Yeah, I think we're like, we don't give,
I think a lot of people have not given the defense,
credit for the performance because of that last touchdown.
Last touchdown.
And I think that last, I'm not going to say it last touch when was meaningless,
but I think it was kind of meaningless because I think they were, you know,
they were in prevent.
You know, I don't love when they do that.
But I, I wasn't as concerned about that as everybody else.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Mint in Bowling Green.
I just saw. We had this guy here last year from Draft Kings, who is from London.
I always like, I think it's a direct flight from London to Bowling Green.
Is it really?
And, you know, they land it right out here.
And so he told me he was going to Kentucky Downs, which is their partner for racing this afternoon, which should be exciting.
He should go to our London, if he wants something exciting.
That's true.
Yeah, you can see your sister city.
That's exactly right.
But that's very nice to him to come down.
If you want good food and entertainment, the winner's circle bar features the best cocktails and drinks for a night out in Bowling Green right here.
And with all these TVs, great place to watch the games, UK and the NFL tonight.
You can make your bets here.
One person writes, Matt, the best Indian restaurant in the state is in Bowling Green, India Oven.
I've actually heard that.
I don't know how many people, have you all eaten there?
I don't know how many people.
Not everybody likes Indian food.
I do.
The one dude, the kid that sits in his car and does the TikTok videos, what's his name?
Luke?
Yeah, he seems like such a nice guy.
He reviewed that.
And he was like, I've never had India food.
I don't know what this is going to be.
And he went to the India oven.
I was like, you know what?
I'm going to have to do that sometime.
I've never thought of that, but I will.
Well, you don't like Indian food.
True and I do.
So you took us to a place in Seattle, though.
I ate it for the first time.
You ordered for me.
Yeah, I just got you chicken.
What is it?
The thing that's just chicken and rice.
I got you the most basic thing I could get.
Which is perfect for me.
Mr. Basic.
Billy Basic.
I like it.
That is true.
You don't have the most sophisticated palette in the world.
I like Subway.
It can be tough eating with Shannon, Ryan, and Mario on the road.
That is true.
She and Ryan and Mario are nice people, but they, I mean, they have the worst food choices.
We were in Bowling Green, and you let Shannon pick any.
restaurant in this town to go to lunch one day? What did he pick? Fazzolis. He picked Fazzolis.
That's exactly right. He picked Fizzolis, and that's the way it goes.
I wanted to note this morning some breaking news. I got, I got, Mario would say they called me
an unc this morning on Twitter because the college basketball video game, okay?
They were going to, you know, there were announcements, EA sports were going to do it.
Well, it turns out a lot of colleges said, we don't want to do it with EA Sports.
We want to do it with 2K.
And I've heard of both, but they're different things.
And I guess now EA Sports is abandoning the college basketball thing.
And I said, well, this is awful.
E.A. Sports, we're not going to get it.
And then a bunch of people are like, listen, old man, 2K's better anyway.
Is 2K better?
It depends.
Well, either way, it's going to now be at least four or five years before you get
college basketball video game, unfortunately.
But apparently UK was one of the schools.
There were schools holding out saying we want to deal from this other one,
UK being one of them, and you can't really do the basketball video game without UK,
Duke, et cetera.
So, yeah, and some schools have been signed to 2K for a few years.
They already have colleges on there.
EA, they made good basketball games.
And I was a kid.
I think the last good one was in like 95, but 2K has been dominating the basketball.
So this delay stinks, but it'll be better for the game.
that 2K is making it.
Do you have an opinion on 2K versus EA sports?
I have zero opinion.
I didn't think you would.
But the one time Mario got actually a little emotional on the trip down here this morning
when he saw that story that 2K was going to do it instead of EA sports.
That kind of got him going a little bit.
Well, I hope they at least do one because, I mean, I think it's great for the sport.
I think, you know, obviously people will play it.
I'd like to have it even though I don't really play.
I'll buy it like I did that one thing.
What was the one?
What was the video game?
Red Dead Red Dead Redemption?
Red Dead Redemption.
I played it one time and I couldn't get on my horse and I just stopped.
Get on the horse is a big part of that game.
Yeah.
But they should just do it automatically.
Why did they make it so hard for me to get on the horse?
And I just, I couldn't do it.
So I moved on.
859-280-2287.
Who's up next?
Adam is up.
I even left, by the way, my PlayStation and my ex-girlfriend's apartment in New York.
I don't even have it anymore.
I think I used it twice, but go ahead.
Adam is up first.
Adam, go ahead, Adam.
What's up, guys?
Indian oven, yes.
Being a former
Bull Green resident,
that will not let you down.
You got to try that out.
I like it.
Well, I will try it sometime.
What,
going into the old miss game,
are y'all,
did Saturday move the needle for you at all?
No.
As far as, you know.
Didn't change my opinion one way or the other.
I'm not any more optimistic
or any more pessimistic.
about UK football based on Saturday.
Literally, they performed exactly as I thought they would.
I thought we would win.
I thought we would win by like one touchdown.
I thought it would be an ugly game and it happened.
So for me, and you guys can jump in, for me, Ryan,
it's all about this Saturday.
If they, I don't, they don't have to win this Saturday for me still to be interested
and excited about the season.
but if they get their ass handed to them,
and we all know what that's like.
I don't mean just, I don't even mean like two touchdown.
I mean if we're not competitive,
then I'm like, uh-oh, that's kind of where I am for this week.
I'm kind of with you.
We all agree with the defense.
I think it's going to be able to keep you in the ball game.
I think the defense can play with and slow down Ole Miss.
Our offense, I think we're still looking for some answers.
You know what?
They didn't have a passing game at all.
They're going to have to compete in the SEC.
so I think we'll find out pretty early how things are going to shape out in that game.
Yeah, the first game didn't change my opinion too much,
but I'll admit to being pretty disappointed in 80 yards passing
and it being 10 points through three quarters and you needed the interception.
But you have to be positive about the defense.
Yeah, to balance it out.
And disappointed I was in the offense and the questions,
the defense, I was kind of like, whoa.
So I think they're going to be able to keep teams in it to cover some of the offense concerns.
The thing just people have to remember about this game,
reason this game Saturday I think is so important for the fans and just overall
moment is next week you play an eastern Michigan team that is not good so I don't
really know that next week is going to change it all then we have a bye week right then we go to
South Carolina in Georgia back to back I mean we go to like two teams that are right now
ranked in the top 12 so then I think we play Texas yeah so the games that we really have a shot to
win come at the end of the schedule.
We are used to as a fan base having the games we could win being at the beginning
of the schedule.
So I just worry if we don't give some sign of life in these early games, the moment
October 15th hits, and we play Purdue October 25th in basketball, I mean, we know
where the attention to this fan base will go if that football team.
I mean, that's just what's going to happen.
I think you have to beat Ole Miss or South Carolina.
You can't have zero SEC wins going into Georgia, Texas, Tennessee.
You got to win either Saturday or at South Carolina.
I mean, you could just remember.
If you want to surprise me with Texas, but I'm not counting.
You're playing South Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas,
four teams that like legitimately think they're going to the playoffs in your first four
SEC games.
Now, you do get Tennessee, Florida, Vandy, and Auburn at the back end, but you're playing
these powerhouses at the first.
run it and that makes it tough 85928027 we'll talk a little basketball when we return here at the
mint and bowling green this is kentucky sports radio welcome back toky sports radio here at ks bar and
grill 85928022087 if you are in lexington tonight uh it is the NFL kickoff let me tell you what
they're doing uh what we're doing at ks bar first of all i you know i don't know i don't drink so i
don't really know what these price are but people tell me this is good bucket of beer uh for
$12. Apparently that's good.
Oh, that is really good. Yes.
Then we're having $3.
Mark Stoops drinks.
Like Mark.
Never mind.
The point is it's a margarita, and it's $3.
And then there's like blueberry lemonade at $3.
It's sponsored by cornbread hemp.
By the way, they're also giving away a two.
So they cannot give the new hemp shelters, right?
But they still want to be able to give something away.
So someone that watches the game tonight at KS Bar will get $250.
gift guard to liquor bar, which they would like you to use on those
shelters, but in theory, you can use them on whatever you want.
So they just told me that this morning, and we hadn't literally done an ad.
So I was kind of busy.
I said, Mario, would you like to do an ad?
Mario did his first ad this morning on social media.
He's editing right now.
Mario's never done an ad.
Mario's never done an ad.
Oh, he killed it.
He's talking trash.
He keeps coming.
He came up to me and was like, I killed it.
Which he's not usually like that.
little self-conscious. I'm going to judge this ad. We'll see how good it is. But watch his ad
online when he posted. He's doing, he did an ad today for the gift card. So that's if you're in
Lexington. And if you're here in Bowling Green, come watch it here at the Mint. At the Mint part of
the Draft King's Sportsbook here in Bowling Green. 859-280-2287. I want to go to phones. Let's talk
basketball for just a second, though. Mark Story at the Harold Leader did a story where he basically
was like that he said the storyline for preseason for Kentucky basketball is who is the fifth starter.
He was taking it as a given that when the season starts, four people were going to start.
Jalen Lowe, Otega O'Way, he says Muhammad Diabate he's hearing is a given to start, which
was not necessarily what I was hearing, but let me just say that, let's just say for purposes of
argument, he's correct. And he said garrison started at the beginning of the year, maybe molding
end acquaintance after his injury is done. So let's just assume he's right about that.
He then said he think there's five people who could take that third spot role. Basically,
it could be Jasper Johnson, it could be Denzel Aberdeen, it could be Colin Chandler, it could be
Cam Williams. And he even said he thought it could be Yellivoc and you could play Diabate at the three.
You'd be going Uber big if you did that, but not crazy, considering all those guys can shoot.
Do me a favor, Drew. Those are.
are the five contenders, rank the order one to five in likelihood of starting.
I'll start.
I completely agree with Mark on the other four.
And I've had the same question about two all summer.
I lean Aberdeen first just because experience and he has a ring on his finger.
So Aberdeen won't?
That's not getting any of the preseason buzz, not knowing how practice is going.
That's just based on his experience.
By the way, and if that ends up being your team, you're starting like,
four of the five players are seniors, and you're not starting any freshman,
which that's got to be, is that the first time we will have ever done that?
Maybe.
Did we have a freshman?
Did we start freshman last year?
I guess we didn't.
Last year, Travis slid in eventually.
Yeah, but yeah, so it would be two straight years of no freshman.
But anyway, so you would say, Abiddy.
But I mean, I say that, but I have Jasper Johnson and Colin Chandler like a fraction beneath him on the list.
Who's number two?
Chandler.
You Chandler over Johns?
Yeah.
I think Johnson will eventually take minutes, but just right away being, you know, right out of high school, the game's changed.
I think experience wins out the start the year.
So Averdine 1, Chandler 2, Johnson, 3?
And then I'll go Cam Williams.
And then Yelovic?
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, what about you?
By the only reason Noah's not on the list is positions.
I think he's like, he's probably the backup for no matter who ends up as the starter.
That's probably what I think Mark was thinking.
So, you know, I've said this before.
I think it may be Aberdeen to start, but I think it's Yellovich by the time we get going.
I think he'll end up being a starter.
I think he's a guy that's going to do his – he's so big.
He can play the four the way Pope wants to play the four, staying in a corner and shoot.
I think he's the guy.
So I would go Yellovich one?
Yelovich one.
So you think he would go Diabate at the three, Garrison at the four, Yelovich at the five?
I do.
Yeah.
I think he wants that height and that length and that shooter in the corner.
I cannot believe that's who you picked, but go ahead.
Aberdeen 2, and then, yeah, Chandler, Williams, and Johnson meet 3, 4, and 5 in some order.
You got Jasper 5th.
Well, and it can some order.
Why not need an order?
That's the game.
Yellovich 1.
I mean, you could say all 5 of them in some order.
The point is there, what's the order?
Yelovich 1, Aberdeen 2, Johnson 3, Williams 4, Chandler 5.
Chandler 5.
What?
He's a 6th, 7th man coming off the bench.
That's his role.
Wow.
Okay. All right, so mine is much more like Drew's than yours.
I had Johnson at the one.
I've been talking to enough people around the program that now I'm going to move him out of the one.
So I'm going to say, I'm going to say Aberdeen one again with Drew.
That's been a change and it's based on vibes I'm hearing from practice.
That wouldn't have been my initial inclination, but I'm going to say Aberdeen one.
I'm going to go ahead and say Johnson, too, and I could see a world whereby January
February he gets in the starting lineup but just I'll say I'll say to I think
Chandler's three and then I think there's a gap there kind of like you said I
think I think those will be the three then Cam Williams I think is going to play
but I think he's going to play as a backup three backup four and then it's not that
I don't think Yelovich can be good I just drew think if Yelovich ends up starting it'll be
over Garrison I don't think it'll be I don't think I don't think they're going to
play Diabate at the three maybe I'm wrong we'll
see. Yeah. Also with my list, I don't know the plan for backup point guard. Like if
Aberdeen's your your second point guard, maybe I don't have him as the starting tour.
If Chandler's or Johnson, I don't know who in practice is running more point because we don't
have a true back. Do we know if it's supposed to be Aberdeen or Chath? I mean, Chandler did,
I thought, did it all right a little bit at the end of the year.
Chandler was in a spot. You know, he didn't practice that spot. He got thrown into it. So
if he did knowing in May that that's going to be his role, it's a different.
summer if you know you have that spot he got thrown in he was like option six last
season and unfortunately but you just completely threw me off on yours well drew kind of said what
talking about i think chanler is going to be in the mix at guard and he's not going to start in front
of low and otega i think jasper's in the mix of guard he's not going to start in front of low and
otega williams is kind of a guy behind at the three spot so i think yellowvitch is the guy that kind
of plays the four the way pope wants the four to play and that's why i think he'll end up
getting on the floor a lot the uh by the way they've started practice
they've started kind of working out and practicing again.
And I just continue to hear.
And listen, you're probably, there were some things during the Calgary era that you would
hear us say every offseason so much that it probably got old.
During the Calgary era, it would be, wow, this team is so talented.
You probably heard that every single time.
I think here's what I think you're going to hear from every single team of the Pope
era, while these are good kids that work hard, Drew.
Because, first of all, I think that's who he's going to recruit.
But secondly, that's all you hear from people out of Lexington is this group of kids is awesome and they work insanely are.
And that's what Pope looks like going to go out and get.
We're just going to get used to this.
Had that last year, looks like we're going to have it this year.
And that's just the players he goes out and recruits.
Which I like.
I mean, better than having guys you don't like.
Yeah, and I know they're just now getting back to campus.
But there was some, Jack, I had some notes on KS board.
And you just, not just Jack, everyone, the word around low is that he's really stepped up and knows he's the guy that's got to be the engine of the.
team and he's he's at least in summer workouts filling in that role so far who's up next sam is up next sam
go ahead sam hey matt what do you think the magic number is for this offense to actually be
competitive i'd take 24 points minimum they got to score i don't feel too confident given
last week's performance and bush handing overall but what are your thoughts yeah that's a great
question i mean well let's just take the old miss game i think it's going to vary game to game
There's some games we could score less and win.
We scored 24 against Toledo.
How many points do we have to score to beat Ole Miss?
Just raw points.
Forget about what we hold.
How many points do we have to score?
28 was the number jumped in my head.
I was going to say 27.
That was 27.
27 and a half.
I was going to say.
And I'm not sure 27 wins.
That's with good defense.
But I don't think there's any way we hold Ole Miss to less than.
21.
Yeah.
Probably.
So I think we're going to have to be mid-20s,
Ryan, to even have a chance.
And I think we're going to say this maybe every single SEC game.
I think the defense is going to have to hold teams,
you know, three touchdowns or less, to try to win the football game.
There might be some teams, though.
Like, I could see, Drew, I mean, I could see, like, against Georgia,
we've held them under 27 quite a bit just because the way they play.
But I think against Ole Miss,
you tell me we get 27 and well at least we didn't get blown out i think it's at least a fighting
change yeah they just play so fast you know we'll see this season but last year in the year before
they're the fastest offense in football you assume that's going to be the case again this year
labor day is behind us summer's winding down and you might be noticing a few things a pimple that

they just started yesterday uh Ryan my group chat for my South African safari uh you and all the ladies
yes a new person joined it it's now me and 10 women uh over the course of the Savari um you should listen
a reality show.
Are they punking you?
I don't know.
We're now in a group chat where everyone's introducing themselves.
Did I tell you there's two women with the same name?
No.
Both British women are both name G-E-M-M-A, which I thought, I guess that's Jimma.
I thought it was Gimma.
I'm glad somebody told me that before I got there.
I think that's rude.
We only have two British women on the group, and they both decided to,
to have the same name. I think that they should have gotten together and fixed that before they went,
because I will already not remember any of these people's names, but now two up with the same name,
maybe everybody with a British accident, I know to at least just call GIMA.
Or Jimma. Or Jimma. Same thing. Do you know a lot of G-E-M-A? No, but I just, I'd never seen the name G-E-M-M-A.
Have you ever seen that before? I mean, it's not common, but yeah, it exists.
Who? It's twice in Britain. Well, clearly there's two. You got to go with last, the first initial last name with them.
Jimma A and Jima B.
Yeah.
Well, so they're starting to introduce each other.
I said my thing, and now I'll be looking at giraffes with them.
It's nice to know these women are going to be protecting you on this safari.
You're not going to be protecting me.
It's going to...
Make sure you stay behind one of them.
You know, one of them's probably going to have to help me set up the camera for the NFL show live from Kruger National Park.
We'll see how that works out.
But yeah, so looking forward to meeting them.
You know, they write their description.
I don't know what to write because they're all doing these big professional jobs.
I'm like, well, I host a radio show and it's fun.
And that was, that's my intro.
Are you all like going over your packing list?
Like, are they talking about what they're bringing?
Well, the problem is they asked, what should we wear?
But everything they're saying doesn't apply to me, right?
Like, I mean, they're not.
There's nobody for me to ask what I should wear, you know, there's nobody.
They're not wearing hoodies and shorts.
Well, I mean, the 10 women, I think they just have a different.
idea of what they need to wear.
So they are asking about clothes.
It's supposed to be 50 to 70 degrees, which is the worst weather because you have to pack both
warm and cold clothes.
And that takes up more space.
And I'm going to be gone for three weeks.
So I don't want to, so I don't know what to wear.
Do you have a full-length mirror at home?
I think you should send them outfit choices.
Just kind of break the ice and think so.
I think that's a good way to get to know each other.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hey, ladies.
What do you think of this look right here?
I'm sure they wouldn't.
This hoodie.
I'm sure they wouldn't find that odd.
It should be nice if Mario could go with you for content purposes.
That would be the greatest thing.
It would be good.
Yes.
Yeah, I did.
They sit the full itinerary.
There's a lot of climbing, walking.
It's a lot more active than I think I thought when I signed up for it.
But I'm looking forward to it.
Who's up next?
Trevor is next.
Trevor, go ahead, Trevor.
Hey, Matt.
First off, I just wanted to.
compliment you on your new NFL show. I listened to it yesterday. I live down here in London,
and it got my mind off of all the fiascos down here for a little bit. So it was great.
Well, first of all, thank you for saying that. We'll talk a little bit more about that in the second
hour. But the impeachment hearing is tomorrow. Are you going? I've had multiple people write me
and say they're going if they can get in. They should put it in the gymnasium. Like, are you going to the
impeachment hearing? I'm not. I want to stay as far away as I can because these people,
are bringing a bad name to the home of the world famous chicken festival.
That's true.
It's kind of a mess.
My question, though, towards the beginning of the season going through camp,
the talk was all about cutter-bole.
Yeah.
And his upside, was that more of a compliment to cutter-bole?
Or was it kind of cutting, you know,
Zachary Nicholas Caldata?
It's a great question.
I don't know.
I mean, I appreciate the call.
What do you think?
Do you think with it?
I would say, I wouldn't say Stoops and the coaches talked more about cutter bolly.
I don't think, then Kyle Zad, I don't think it's true.
But I think they talked more about cutter bully than you normally talk about a backup quarterback.
Do you think that was kind of setting the table for playing him at some point?
Could be setting the table for playing him, but also think it's you, your plan is cutter as your guy next year.
And you don't want him looking around.
You want him locked in.
and even though I think you did have a great camp,
I think they went out of their way to let Cutter know
that they're proud of him, thought he did well,
it's a close race.
You're still our guy if you can sit out just a little bit longer
while Calzotti gets his show.
You're Cutter's biggest advocate.
Maybe on the plane.
If there's a kid from Lexington going back to Jagger,
you know, Landon Young, DeKale,
Dan Key, and now Cutter,
you're going to be the advocate.
You are Mr. Lexington.
What do you think was the reason for all the cutter?
talk. Well, I'm going to take Coach Stubes at his word where he said it was more
praising what Cutter had done, not a negative against Calzada. Calzada did everything
right. It just Cutter kind of impressed him more and kind of surprised him with how much
he had advanced. So if, like I said, man, if we have one game to go from, but if that's
Calzada, why not go with the youth from Bill for your future if the guy is actually kind of
impressed you enough in the spring you were bragging about him? If Calzada is not better,
than what we saw at Toledo, then yes, we should make the change.
I'm going to give him a chance to be better than that.
I think he does, it's one game.
I think he deserves that.
But I do think, like, if that's the max, then yeah, I think you make a change.
I don't know why you wouldn't, honestly.
And to be honest, let's also say this.
If Cutter came in and he couldn't be better than that,
then you know you might need to go get somebody next year.
You know what I mean?
If Cutter comes in and he's not better than him,
then maybe we got to go in a completely different direction next year.
So there's a lot of reasons that if Zach Kalsata is not better than what we've seen,
you would make a change.
What if it's the case that maybe it's not Kalsada?
What if the line just sucks?
And it's like a Vandigriff here,
and you don't want to ruin your future getting him killed.
I mean, we just had a guy quit football last year because the offense was so bad.
I don't know how much.
The line is better than it was.
It is.
But let's say we get to week six and they get killed to Ole Miss, South Carolina,
and the line can't block.
Do you want to put your future?
Well, there's an argument, though, if the line is not going to be better than this line, which we spend a lot of money on,
then we may just have to get a different kind of quarterback, one that can move.
You know, I mean, like we may not have a choice if we can't get a better line than we've had.
Of all people who helped me get educated on British pronunciation, Richie Farmer, wrote me and said,
think of it like a, no, he said think of it like a diamond gym, jimma.
See? There we go.
Nobody knows Britain better than Richie.
Who's next?
Justin is next.
Justin, 30 seconds.
Matt Jones, I called it last year.
I'm going to call it again.
We're going to beat them Rables again.
And all we got to do is score seven points and let our defense do the race.
Let's be honest.
This Ole Miss team stinks.
And then what percentage of the crowd you say are going to be Ole Miss fans?
Well, first of all, you did call that.
last year. I remember that. You did call in and say that before the game, so I will give you credit
for that. What percentage of the fans at the game are Ole Miss fan Saturday? It's a good question.
I think we still have a good crowd. I'm going to go like maybe just 15%. I'm going to say like 20.
I'd been in some talks with the Old Miss Collective. They were thinking about doing something at the
bar and then I was like not pregame so they're not doing it. And they were expecting a pretty good
crowd. So I'm going to say 20. What do you think, Drew? I'll say 15. Yeah. I know this is more for Ed
Keenland. This won't be an invasion like Texas is going to be. Correct. But it'll still be,
it'll still be a pretty good showing. We will take a break. Be right back here in Bowling Green at the
