Starting point is 00:01:19 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's he at? Hey, Miss Parker.

Welcome back hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287 here at the KSR Somerset Golf Scramble, got the speaker working, so hopefully I'll be able to play something for you. decided to play a little bit later in the hour. We're going to go to the phones here in just a second. One person writes, Matt, if Cutter Bowles are started by week three and you went into the portal and paid over a million dollars for your quarterback, then you screwed up on the portal. I think that's fair. That's completely fair. If you're already getting rid of your quarterback after week two, then you pick the wrong quarterback. I mean, that's just, that's a fact.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I mean, they've been, you know, they've either, one of two things is true. Either they've, they've had the wrong offensive coordinators and they don't have a good offensive plan or they've gone three years in a row without picking the right quarterback. And you can decide which one it is. I tend to do the offensive coordinators because, you know, Devin Leary made an NFL team. So he can't be that bad. And then Brock Vandergriff quit football. And Zach Kalsata at one point beat Alabama. So some of it is I think it's more coordinator based, at least to me. I think so too. Calzada has not been good on his own so far. I mean, he missed a little screen
Starting point is 00:04:32 pass through it at his feet. Plenty of missed throws on Calzada. He looks like he's seeing ghosts out there. But I feel a little bad for him when before the play, he's yelling what the bleep are we doing, and his receivers can't get in position, and they're running plays that put him in position to take a safety like last week
Starting point is 00:04:49 or some of these play calls he's getting. Yes, he's missing throws, but at the same time, I don't know that we're exactly setting him up to succeed. I think that's the best way to put it. I don't think he's great, but I don't I also don't think we're setting him up to succeed. And that combination, Shannon, is not good. Yeah, I mean, organization is the most simplicity.
Starting point is 00:05:05 It's the most simple thing that you can do when it comes to running your offense. And they seem to have none of that. And it all goes back, I think, to the offensive coordinators. How many have we had now since Stoops has been here? A lot, more than I can even remember. By the way, also, I don't think we necessarily appreciate. Our offensive line is the third most experienced offensive line in all of college football. I saw that stat.
Starting point is 00:05:25 So it's not like we're like a bunch of kids. This is the third most experienced offensive line in terms of games played in all of college football. And through the first two games, I think everybody's pretty happy with the way the offensive line has played. You know, no really major mistakes. A running game has been pretty well, done pretty well the last two games, especially against an SEC defense. But you're talking about the transfer. Your big money guy, Calzada, last year, your big money guys were Chip Trainham and Vandergriff. Year before that, your big money guy was Devin Leary.
Starting point is 00:05:50 I mean, it's just they keep missing on their transfer portal guys, and they just can't do that. Can we say one thing that's good? Seth McGowan's really good That's a really good runner I mean that's the kind of dude you want Takes a hit gets a few more yards He is a stud Just this morning
Starting point is 00:06:07 The new episode of the NFL Cover Zero podcast with me and Drew Came out please listen to it today I think you'll like it But let's do a little behind the scene story So the NFL Wants us to tape this on Sunday nights After the night game
Starting point is 00:06:24 Is over and that's pretty late right so it's usually over 1115 1130 so we've made a decision as a as a family me drew billy and mario we're going to get to the studio at half time of the of the night game so that during the second half we can discuss what we're going to do and then as a moment the game's over we can start so we get down there 10 nine minutes to go Baltimore's up 15 they get the ball back on an interception chan and i think well games over they're good right right they're up 15 they got the ball with nine minutes to go. Buffalo's not been able to stop them. Let's start the show. Why not? So we start the show. We lead with that game because it's the biggest game.
Starting point is 00:07:05 You know, we're talking about it. We're making good points. Lamar Jackson, Derek Henry, brer, brubber, we get in, we start moving to the other games. We're like four games in, and all of a sudden I see on Billy's face and I've seen it before. There's a look of panic. You can just see, you can see on his face. I'm Billy and I'm panicking. And he grabs the remote and went, I even knew. I was like, I think I know what's happening. And then we turned it on and it's 40 to 38 and Buffalo's driving. You know, if we were live, which we're going to be in a few weeks after I get back from South Africa,
Starting point is 00:07:41 we probably would have just kept going. But, you know, I mean, it wouldn't make sense if we started a podcast and we said Baltimore won. So we just have to stop. And then we just have to start over. Like the first 30 minutes are gone. So that will be somewhere in the ether of the archives of KSR is the first 30 minutes of the podcast. I actually think the second version was better than the first, so I think it's fine.
Starting point is 00:08:06 But we ended up going home at 1 in the morning because we literally got 30 minutes into it, and then stupid Buffalo came back and one day. It's week one for you guys too, rookie mistake, right? And that is really one of the most KSR things that could happen, right? The most KSR curse thing imaginable. You go, well, this game's over, and then I wish I had a camera on Billy. I could see his panic. He's like, oh, no, and then there you go.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Football gods didn't like you guys starting that a little early before the game was over, did they? We're not going to be able to do that in the future, Drew. I think we're just going to have to wait it out just in case. Pretty unique circumstances there, and it wasn't just that we mentioned the game. We talked about the impact on the playoff seating. You may listen. When you listen to the podcast, let's see if you catch the moment. So we did 30 minutes.
Starting point is 00:08:56 And I was like, there's about 10 minutes I think we can salvage. And we left it in. As I was driving down here this morning, there's at least one thing on there that probably we shouldn't have left in. Because it's basically assuming Baltimore 1, and that's going to sound stupid. So when you listen, you might hear one moment that goes, they probably should have taken that out. You're called cover zero. You literally don't even watch the games, according to the podcast. We watched the games.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I don't watch the game. We turned it off to start. Now, I will say, as we were. talking about the comeback. We had to be vague, Ryan, because we didn't really know what happened during the comeback because we had the television off. But on the good side, you guys nailed all the other games that had finished. Oh, the other games were good.
Starting point is 00:09:35 People really wanted our commander's giants takes. The other games were completely good. Matt did another big impersonation. Now, I think we have a new bid. This is two straight weeks of only two weeks where Matt has done a new impersonation and they're good. I did at Chris Collinsworth when Josh Allen makes a good play. He and Lamar Jackson. I'm not going to do it on the public airwaves,
Starting point is 00:09:57 but I think it's a pretty good impression because, you know, he gets excited. He starts grunting and he starts moaning. Last week was Dan Campbell, now Collinsworth. So you're going to hear a side of Matt Jones. Maybe you haven't heard before if you listen to this week's. But please subscribe, like it with the stars. They seem very happy so far, and we're not fired yet, so we're pretty good. Now, however, starting with our next show, I'm on the road,
Starting point is 00:10:22 and then we'll see if I'm able next Sunday to connect in Johannesburg, South Africa, after having not watched the games at all, Ryan. Well, that's what the magic of Google's for. You can Google up and put me some information for you and let you kind of, yeah. I like it. 859-280-2287. Let me give a shout out to something positive of UK sports. UK volleyball goes on the road, plays top five Penn State,
Starting point is 00:10:47 beats them in three straight sets and dominates the game. They had a huge crowd. They ended up, it basically was dead on national TV, again on Fox. They were playing on network television and they win. That means they have played two teams in the top five, essentially in road games, back to back, and have won the first two sets in both games, won the game against Penn State. They're going to end up ranked probably number three in the country. Craig Skinner, Drew, has a national championship contender.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I mean, that's something to be excited about going forward. Yeah, you spoiled Penn State's fun up there. They had a big banner night, big celebration. Yeah, they hung their banner. If you had held on against Nebraska on Sunday, Penn State would have been one, and you would have beaten the number one team twice in one week from being unheard of in about any sport.
Starting point is 00:11:33 But still huge. We probably would have been number one if we hung out. Oh, yeah, definitely. But a huge, huge win. Looks like Skinner's loaded up again. We know they've had a good hold on the conference for a long time, but it looks like they're going to be a national contender this season. It just makes that Nebraska game.
Starting point is 00:11:49 That loss that much tougher. You're up 2-0 on Nebraska and have a chance to just sweep them, and then you'll lose that game. They come back and beat you. Craig Skinner, basically, if you look at the top eight teams in the country that's not Kentucky, he's scheduled five of them. So he's making it to where we're going because in the SEC, volleyball is the one sport that the SEC does do as well.
Starting point is 00:12:09 So, like, we'll run through the SEC. Florida is the only other team that's good. So he's playing this non-conference schedule, right, and so far doing well. I love it. You know, so many coaches, early in the conference season, non-conference season, they want to play these cupcakes. He's like, hell no, we're going to go after the big boys, big girls, and we're going to show them what we're made of.
Starting point is 00:12:26 They're definitely the best team on campus. We don't talk about them enough. They deserve all the recognition they're getting right now. And next year, these teams they played are coming here. So I don't know if you're going to have a next year home schedule, but they'll probably have like the best volleyball home schedule next year of any team in the country. Who's next? Dennis is next.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Dennis. Go ahead, Dennis. Hey, can I make a comment, a question? about the video whoever operates that before I make a comment on the game here the video I'll tell you what this video whoever operates a video on big board horrible every time we go on defense they start the stupid blue white chant on a video board you're killing the crowd I've heard more complaints about the blue white chant I didn't realize that was such a big deal to people but it was I did hear it on the game broadcast and it did seem like I'm with you
Starting point is 00:13:20 Maybe we retire that for when it's loud. I mean, when you're doing the blue-white chance, you actually have a gap there between the blue and white with gizzer offense. You know, they can communicate. It's a horrible chance. People are looking at the video boards. You're looking at the play on the field. I don't know who's operating it, but they need some help.
Starting point is 00:13:44 As far as the game, if you listen to Van Hals during Tom Leach, obviously the quarterback quarterback play kind of costs us that game because according to Van Hals there were some wide receivers steamed open during that game and we just missed them well that made me right he would know better than me
Starting point is 00:14:05 and by the way while I'm gone and we are going to have we were planning this last week while I'm gone they're going to have a lot of guest folks on here Van Hiles is going to be on the show one day you know, Jack Givens, Richie Farmer, there's going to be, during my two and a half weeks gone, you're going to not have to hear my voice, but you will hear a lot of voices around UK sports
Starting point is 00:14:29 that you don't hear as much on this show. They're each going to be doing guest appearances on this, so hopefully folks will enjoy it, and Van Hiles will be one of those. So what was your second thing? One skid. I think Stoops gets a lot of bad rap for the offensive coordinator for the number he's had. Liam Cohen was here twice and left for NFL job. That's two times.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Ben, you've got Eddie Grant that was basically ran out of here, pretty much by the fans, in my opinion, because in my opinion, that year with the Lynn Bowden, I mean, that's a best job. That was impressive. He could probably get the best job as OC that year. No, Eddie Grand, and I appreciate to call, Eddie Grant, I think in hindsight, Ryan Lemon, we might have, we might have as a fan base.
Starting point is 00:15:20 We might wish Eddie was still here, to be honest with you, because he actually, we won most of the time he was here. How many times on a Monday morning show like this, since Eddie Grant has left, we talked about the same issues Kentucky's been having an offense. And Eddie didn't have those. Didn't have those when he was here. But ever since he left, he's like so many Monday mornings, we could discuss poor clock management, poor offense, teams for play calling, you know, the same thing over and over and over. We talked about this on cover zero, but Shannon, Liam Cohen, his owner is named, it's Tony Kahn's dad, it's something Kahn.
Starting point is 00:15:54 And he has a mustache that's an amazing mustache. And there's a postgame locker room video. Liam Cohen wins his first game as coach of the Jaguars, and he hands Liam Cohen the ball, and he goes, starting today, we win forever! Which I thought was a great line. He was like, we win. Forever He's such a strange dude
Starting point is 00:16:16 But he's pretty good Offensive coordinator Well no the owner said it to Liam Oh okay But I think there's a lot of pressure saying Liam's gonna have to win for the rest of time If I'm calling I'm like I hope this isn't written in my contract
Starting point is 00:16:27 We're the Jaguars I know we get to play the Titans twice But I can't win every game He thinks they're winning Forever who's next Got bluegrass up next Bluegrass I got a minute Go ahead
Starting point is 00:16:39 All right fellas I need to take a look at it I need to take a look at what I do. I'm in a mountain all day, breaking my back, then I traveled down there to Lexington. I'm feeding my kids. I'm spending $400 or $500. When is enough enough, Matt?
Starting point is 00:16:57 I mean, I love this team. I don't want to give up on the team. But you asked me to do the same thing every weekend, and am I benefiting from this at all? Well, I went into great detail on the postgame show. I won't repeat it here, but you can hear it on podcast, and it was that exact point, and I appreciate the call. The short version is, you go to a UK game with your family.
Starting point is 00:17:21 That is a $500 or more investment. We ask people to do it, and the school, the program has got to start giving it back, whether it is as an experience or winning. It has to start becoming a reward, because otherwise you're going to see people start to say the investment is not worth it. And, you know, when you sit there and think about driving the whole, way to get there. Eating before, going to the game and the tickets, eating after, anything you get while you're there, coming back. That is a, for some families, that might be $1,000 on a particular
Starting point is 00:17:55 day. Then you're asked to do it six or seven times during the year. You're going to have to start giving something for people back, or they're going to say, I got other things that I can do. When it comes to physical health, you want a physical therapist you can trust. That's court physical therapy. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with sorts. many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit
Starting point is 00:19:46 of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Will Ferrell's Big Money Players and IHeart Podcast presents soccer moms. So I'm Leanne. This is my best friend Janet. Hey. And we have been joined at the Hipsons High School.
Starting point is 00:20:39 Absolutely. Now a redacted amount of years later. We're still joined at the hip. Just a little bit bigger hips, wider. This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey. With all the snacks and drink. Sidebar.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white collar or something here? Just hit it. Oh, what are y'all doing? Microphones? Are you making a rap album?
Starting point is 00:21:03 Oh, I would. Come on. Could you imagine? I would buy it. Cut through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict.
Starting point is 00:21:15 You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic. You're lucky I'm not a killer. I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on. Oh. Listen to soccer moms on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Clifford Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Come up. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
Starting point is 00:21:58 What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Park. Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-2-80-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5-254. By the way, Texas, I always forget Texas is in the SEC. Also very good at volleyball.
Starting point is 00:22:28 They're actually ranked number two now, so we'll get a chance. So now they're going to play six of the top ten teams because they will get Texas as well, Drew. Skinner's not afraid. I mean, Cal would famously say any. time anywhere and now Pope's saying he wants it all. Skinner's actually living it. He wants the best programs out there. He wants them on the schedule. I love it. That's good. Let's talk about KSR Parlay nearly hit for the second week in a row. Let's sit there and say, all right, we started the day, Illinois over Duke. Easy win, minus two and a half. They won 4519.
Starting point is 00:22:59 It was a little bit closer for Drew, but he got his. What was it? Michigan State. We needed O.T. Michigan State got it in over teed and late at night. Washington State, listening to my man, Shannon, held on against San Diego State. That game finished at 148 in the morning. Could have been back-to-back KSR parlays, but Ryan Lemon led a big dud when he bet on West Virginia. Boopoop-boop-Doo. What do you have to say for yourself? I lost money because of you.
Starting point is 00:23:28 You owe me $5. I felt so good about that pick. Maybe that's why it didn't win. Literally, if you had won that, we would guarantee to be up for the year. Two and O. We would be two and O, and we would guarantee a positive result for the year if you would just want. I mean, I can't keep picking all these winners if you're going to lose. I feel like we're all going to bounce back next week.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Next week back to the end up. We don't have to bounce back. There are three undefeated people at this table. It's exactly right. Three of us are two and O. So seven out of eight picks to start the season is pretty good, though. Seven out of eight picks. I mean, there's people out there charging money for their picks.
Starting point is 00:24:03 Drew that haven't gotten seven out of eight. Yeah. What do we make them do to punishment? Well, just don't pick. Just do your homework. The fighting Mitch Barnhart's got me. Ohio beat West Virginia, so the fighting Jennifer 9 Pullumbo's.
Starting point is 00:24:18 It must be pretty bad at football. A couple other little things that happen. North Carolina, Bill Belichick says, hey, Patriots, people, you cannot come to the game. They win the game. They go to Charlotte and they win. So good for him. But what do you think about the University of Charlotte?
Starting point is 00:24:33 They on the Jumbotron had a gold digger cam. Love it. And just showed women in the crowd with men and said that they had the gold digger cam. Is that fair, Shannon? Absolutely, it's fair. Any chance you have to troll your opponent, you should do it. And I think that is a very creative way to troll Bill Belichick. You think that's okay?
Starting point is 00:24:57 Absolutely. All right, what about you? Absolutely. I don't care if the Duke Blue Devils want to do a gold digger cam. Everybody should do a gold digger cam. Well, it's already been done now. It's already been done. Now it wouldn't be as cool.
Starting point is 00:25:07 But yeah. I'm enjoying all of this and he deserves all of this. But there is a little part of me that's like the great Bill Belichick is going out as a joke. Like everyone is making. Hey, at least he's happy. I know. But I mean, we're thinking this guy. He's happy.
Starting point is 00:25:21 I'm happy for him. His guy that ran like a. He was very pro the whole thing. Look, man, my guy Bill has all the money in the world. And he's got to, he deserves to be happy at this point in his life. He's an old man now. He is an old man. He doesn't care if wins or loses at North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:25:34 He's got, he's got, he's got, we hear so much about the Patriots way. It was like a military operation in there. He's one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time. And now we're watching him. His girlfriend in her disco pants is like tugging on his shirt on the sideline, wanting money to go to the concession stand. It's just sad to see him go out like this. I respect it.
Starting point is 00:25:55 I'm kind of with Shannon, though, in the sense of if he's happy, what are you case? I mean, like, if he's, if he's had. If he's happy, then it is what it is. Who are we? Who are we? Florida loses at home to South Florida. Their next four games are all against teams ranked in the top 12. Florida plays Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Texas A&M in their next four games.
Starting point is 00:26:19 They lose to South Florida. Ryan, I don't know if I'd want to be Billy Napier. By the time they get to us, their season might have already collapsed in November. You know, he was on the hot seat last year. Then they kicked Kentucky's butt. kind of jump started them pretty well. They played pretty well. Played pretty well.
Starting point is 00:26:34 And kind of played pretty well the rest of the season. On the hot seat again, I don't know if he can survive a second year of this debacle. Well, they were terrible two years ago. And then it looked like last year, but you're right. They beat us and then kind of went on a run. Drew to the Z. Survived this one. I mean, they have had the hardest schedule the country before losing to South Florida.
Starting point is 00:26:55 This has been my best take all year. I think Kentucky's going to win that game in November. and now when they're losing to South Florida at home early, feeling even better. I made one futures bet in college football, one, and it was the Florida under because it was seven and a half. I don't think they're good, and I don't think Billing April will be there at the end of the year, and it has already started to crumble, and we're not even to the middle of September yet. So one more, you like trolling, Shannon. Oklahoma State played Oregon, and Mike Gundy during the offseason was like,
Starting point is 00:27:25 Oregon's got all this money. You know, they think they can just buy their way to a national. National Championship. They get all these players. We're working hard, blah, blah, blah. So they play on Saturday. Oregon beats Oklahoma State 69 to 3. And during the fourth quarter, while up 69 to 3, every break, they just play, come on, come on, listen to the money talk.
Starting point is 00:27:49 They do it the entire fourth quarter? Do you like that? I do. If I were in charge of the music, I would probably be doing the same thing. So I love it. See, I just wonder, I think that's hilarious. Yeah. Could you ever see a world that Mitch Barnhart would let our people troll like that?
Starting point is 00:28:04 No, no. We're too boring. Be respectful to the opponent. I think the money talks is pretty hilarious. That's great. Especially since Gundy started it with all of his comments. Who's up next? Brett is next.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Brett. Go ahead, Brett. I just want to think about how much joy we got when we switched to zone in the Duke basketball game. I don't think it's too much to ask. for our offensive coaching staff and football to make a simple adjustment like that. They keep playing the same offensive scheme the entire game. It's like he's scripted the entire game. And if Old Miss's quarterback throws two picks in the first quarter,
Starting point is 00:28:45 and their complete offensive philosophy changes. That you're exactly right. They do more quarterback run. Like, I don't think it's too much to ask just for some simple. You are exactly right. That's a great point. And I appreciate the call. Lane Kiffin saw that their game plan wasn't working, adjusted it, started adding in more quarterback run, and their offense started to click.
Starting point is 00:29:07 We just don't do that a lot. We just, you don't see those mid-game adjustments that changes the way we play very often with our football team. We'll take a break and be right back. We're going to play something I think you're really going to like next. I get to Tucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. A beautiful day here in Somerset for the Somerset Golf Scramble. folks eating lunch. It is gorgeous. A little chilly outside, but otherwise, ready to go. If you're going to play golf, this is better than being suffocating in heat. Tomorrow we are in Lebanon at the cornbread hemp. Cornbread hemp field. If you're in the area, you're welcome to go. What's the address? Mario, Billy, you know the address. He's on the phone. We'll figure it out. But it'll be online. But we are at the cornbread hemp facility there outside. It's kind of cool. You'll see where it's all grown.
Starting point is 00:29:56 I'm looking forward. I've been the one in Lexington, but not the one there. One person writes on the text machine, Matt, I've been to every UK home football game, but two since 1976. Wow. I've seen some terrible football. But I have to tell you, Saturday, frustrated me as much as any game I've ever been to from being disorganized, no cell service, crappy game atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:30:21 The good thing about Mark Stubis, he's brought to me the point that when I walk in the gates, I feel we have a chance. However, the disorganization and lack of fundamentals is brutal. I'm going to go Saturday to see Cutter. But if we don't improve by the time we come back home next week, I'm done. I'd rather just watch it home and college football games last forever. What do you think about that? That is the kind of comment UK needs to listen to because I get literally dozens of those a week
Starting point is 00:30:51 and they're real and like the folks that UK can go, It's just Matt, wine, and Berber, but it's real. It's what is out there, Drew, and that's just one example. And what would be? Decades. What do you say? 70s. 76.
Starting point is 00:31:04 76 missed two games. It just shows you how bad it's gotten. And they're right about the atmosphere. Last week was worse. I'll give them a little credit on this. I think they brought my guy, Warren Peace back. There was a little more upbeat music. It was better.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Grocery was back. But still, just overall, it's not good. I know you mentioned Auburn, and we can't be Auburn. I get it. But you see some of these other schools. And it's like we're not even in the same conference as them when it comes to some of this stuff. It's one thing to lose a casual fan. But when you lose somebody that's been a fan to that degree for so long, that's a problem.
Starting point is 00:31:35 By the way, UK athletics send out a bunch of social media things saying, yeah, playing Grove Street. Like, you didn't play it the week before. I mean, it's not a, you know, you didn't. They didn't get the right situation. They're actually like we're crazy for calling it out. There wasn't the right situation. Nobody was crazy. People were happy when they, uh, when they, uh,
Starting point is 00:31:54 when they played it. One person writes, Matt, do you think it was rude that Old Miss fans did a chant during my old Kentucky home? I talked about this on the postgame show. Honestly, no. I mean, that's our song, but why should they care about it? Yep. I mean, it's not, again, our state songs are my old Kentucky home?
Starting point is 00:32:16 But Tennessee state song is Rocky Top. Are you going to be respectful to Rocky Top just because it's their state song? I do catch chance over the other team stuff if I'm somewhere. How many times on the road do we hear go big blue while the other people? And we brag about it. So like we treat. You go take over. I mean, we treat my old Kentucky home like it's the national anthem to us.
Starting point is 00:32:35 And I do too. I love it. But you can't expect people that have no connection to it to do it. It's not like the national anthem. So, I mean, I can't be mad at them about it. But you got to be so good that they don't have anything to cheer about. Yeah, it's embarrassing. It's embarrassing that they're like.
Starting point is 00:32:52 louder than us singing. I saw this about Ole Miss fans. When I, on my walk back, if you, Ole Miss fans over the age of 25, a lot of fun, gracious love Lexington. Under 25, they were looking for trouble. And it wasn't a small group. I wouldn't be shocked if there were some stories of Fisticofts after that game. Because the Ole Miss, kind of the fratty college crowd,
Starting point is 00:33:12 they were going around looking for trouble out in that parking lot. Well, they could have come to me. They'd have gotten some. That's right. They could have got their picks are taken. I want to play you something. You may remember the story I talked about last week where the woman in Whitesburg
Starting point is 00:33:28 she found a drunk raccoon in a dumpster and she gave it CPR and saved its life. You remember that? No, what? No. That's quite a lot of the other. Well, that's the story. A woman finds a drunk raccoon in a dumpster.
Starting point is 00:33:45 A dumpster. Pulls it out, gives it CPR, and saves its life. I don't believe that. In Kentucky. In Kentucky. So on ESPN for Matt Myron, we're now going to, we're going back to having a celebrity guest picker every week. We pick a celebrity.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I thought, who's better for week one than the woman who did it? Perfect. Than the woman from Kentucky who saved the drunk raccoon that was in the dumpster. So we had her on. And it's one of my favorite things I've ever heard. And I couldn't just leave it to the national audience. I have to play it for our Kentucky folks. This is Misty Combs from Letcher County.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Remember, this is on national radio. And I have to tell you, I've done a lot of interviews on ESPN. Never got more response. ESPN's thinking about putting it out as a clip today. We'll see if they do it. But either way, I'm playing it on this show. Here is my interview. And listen from Myron giggling in the background during this whole thing.
Starting point is 00:34:41 Here's Misty, the woman who saved the drunk raccoon. Holmes from Letcher County, Kentucky. Misty, how are you? I am great How are you all? I'm doing wonderful Misty. Now I read the story. You this week found a drunk raccoon in a dumpster and you gave it CPR.
Starting point is 00:35:03 It's an amazing headline, but give me quickly some details. So the raccoon, I found in a dumpster, and it had got so drunk, it had fell over into some water and it had drowned. and I was able to get it out of the dumpster, and it was dead or close to dead. It was not breathing. So I did CPR on it, and I was able to bring it back to life, and it's living now.
Starting point is 00:35:32 That's awesome. Now, let's go through some details. Do we know how it got drunk? The foster was at a moonshine distillery, and they had put their fermented peaches in that dumpster, It had got in there with one of its siblings, and it had eight. Those peaches apparently all night until it had got so drunk it couldn't eat anymore. You like that, Myron?
Starting point is 00:36:03 That happens sometimes. What's an amazing. It's an amazing story. All right, so you see the drunk peach-eating raccoon in the dumpster. Most people would see that and just keep walking. What made you decide to save it? Well, I'm a nurse and I'm also a mother and its mom was standing close by and she was making like some cheater chatter noise and I think she was trying to get our attention like she wanted us to help it and I mean, I'm an animal lover so I went over there and I got it and I just started doing chest compressions and being on its back a little to get that water out of its lungs and it finally. started breathing again.
Starting point is 00:36:51 This is my favorite part. So you did CPR on a raccoon. I did, I did. That is awesome. Misty, seriously, you are a saint. No one else would do that. So once it was over, did it thank you? Well, it was still drunk, so it's still the rest of the day.
Starting point is 00:37:11 And we sent it to the vet. The Fish of Wildlife came and got it. But they brought it back to me the next day. I was sort of shocked. they did that and I got to turn it loose back where its mom lives there at the health department that I work at. That is awesome. Well, good.
Starting point is 00:37:29 There you go right there. Missy, I love that you shared. You can stop it, Rick. You can stop it right there. Well, it was still drunk. There you go. I've had some nights on moonshine.
Starting point is 00:37:39 I feel like I kind of relate to this raccoon a little bit. Now, CPR would also imply mouth to mouth. Didn't do mouth to mouth to mouth. Just chest compression. And then according to her, I don't know if this is signed. scientific CPR beating on its back. It worked, though. I don't know if that's a textbook, but I like it, right.
Starting point is 00:37:56 She acts like that's a regular occurrence and Letcher County. Maybe it is. You just do it. I loved it. Drew, absolutely love the story. Absolutely love Misty, and I love that she got to be on national radio. At first, my producers called her and asked her if she would come on. She said, no.
Starting point is 00:38:13 She said, I'm not doing that. So then I was like, let me call. So I called her and I was like, Misty, come on, this will be fun. goes, I don't know anything about sports. And I said, who cares? Neither do I. Let's just do it. She then picked games with us.
Starting point is 00:38:28 Shannon, every game, she would pick the team that was an animal. Well, that makes sense. That checks out. She's an animal lover. Animal lover. So I think it was like Falcons, bucks. And I said, who you got? And she goes, Falcons.
Starting point is 00:38:39 And I said, why? Well, it's a bird, of course. I thought that. She understands a buck's also an animal, right? No, it's a buccaneer. It's like a pirate. Oh, yeah. You're right.
Starting point is 00:38:48 See? Maybe you shouldn't act like you're so smart. I was thinking Milwaukee Bucks for a reason. You think Milwaukee plays football? No, no. As good as the story was, her accent was the best part, though. Her accent. How could you not love her after what you just heard that story right there?
Starting point is 00:39:04 I love her. And she Letcher County, it should be very proud of a woman who sees a raccoon and says, you know what, I'm going to save it. I love it. That is not something. That's the story of the year. She heard the chitter chatter from the mama. That's how she knew. So they take her to the Humane Society, whatever, for it to sober up.
Starting point is 00:39:21 It is like putting the drunk tank at the Humane Society. It's through a 12-strap program. Hey, it's the final drive and you need to win. Go to Don Franklin's family of dealerships. Over 6,000 new and pre-owned dealerships. There's a bunch of them right in this area. I know Somerset has them and more. Go to Don Franklin's family.
Starting point is 00:39:37 They're there to serve all your auto needs. They got everything. Chevy, Buick, GMC, Hyundai, Nissan, Chrysler, Judge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, Kia, Mitsabichi, Fiat, Mitzuizu, Ford, Lincoln, Genesis. It's kind of like Toyota. It's all there at the, Don Franklin dealership. Steer your way over to Don Franklin Auto.com.
Starting point is 00:39:52 I also like how she knew it was her sibling. She was all they were related. She knew. Brother and sister out just getting hammered. Seabling, not sibling. Seabling. We'll take a break. Bearing Backs, KSR.

And we have been joined at the hips since high school. Absolutely. Now a redacted amount of years later, we're still joined at the hip, just a little bit bigger hips, wider.
Starting point is 00:42:11 This is a podcast. We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games. in the back of my Honda Odyssey with all the snacks and drink. Sidebar. Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer? Oh, they had a bogo. Well, then you got it. Do you want a white collar something here? Just hit it.

Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake. That sounds delicious. Oh, you're lucky. I'm not a drug addict. You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic.

And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Starting point is 00:43:06 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref. want you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, Wreck, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:43:29 Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287. It's Hummerset Golf Scramble, 772-7474-5-25. four. We are a beautiful day here ready to play some golf. You're playing with what, Drew, Judge Gabe, Fleener, and another.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Corey. Corey. He's got a team. He's ready to rock, and I'll be on 18 here with you. You ready to do some putt in today? We'll probably knock down a few eagle putts for some people today. This is reachable par five, and always a good time. You make about one putt a year. I should be good for one put, yeah. Last scramble, he's one for one.
Starting point is 00:44:16 One for one. He should have stopped right there. I should have walked away. Should have walked away. 859-280-2287. Who's next, Rick? Flash is up next. Flash, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Hey, Matt. Do we think Bush Hamden got a hold of some of those Litter County Peaches Saturday? I'm just trying to wrap my mind around what I witnessed. Now, I'm going to start negative, but I'm going to end positive. So I need to do a welfare checker, my boy, Drew Franklin. I'm a fellow UK football and Tennessee Titans fan. So it was a rough week. Get used to the O and two weekends, brother.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Yeah, just another O and two weekend, but this one hit a little differently just with the complete, just coaching malpractice and incompetence. I still, I'm in shock by what happened, but I'm oddly positive because I think our biggest obstacle is not the opposing team or players. It's our damn coaching staff. I'm both with both things. How can an ATT coaching staff and NFL coaching staff, how can that happen? I'm with you. It's a great question, but it's happened. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:45:25 It's happened a lot. It's happened a lot over the last few years, and I don't know, you know, what is it? You keep doing the same thing over and over. It's the, what's it called? There's a saying about this. I can't think of it. Definition of insanity. Definition of insanity.
Starting point is 00:45:38 That's exactly right. It's doing the same thing over and over and expected a different result. And that's what's happened with us for a number of years, and I don't know that it's going to stop. Hey, Rick, we got some breaking news. Look at that. UK releases its depth chart for Eastern Michigan, and Zach Kalsada is still listed as the starter.
Starting point is 00:46:02 Now, as you noted in the break, that doesn't, sometimes they just don't update it, which, by the way, is a perfect example of how they're on top of things over there. So we'll see if Mark Stoops says something different in the press conference, but at least for now, the official depth chart says Kauzzi. gamesmanship right there.
Starting point is 00:46:20 Eastern Michigan doesn't know what's going to come at him on Saturday. Yeah, I don't know why you wouldn't update that. I think Cutter Bowley clearly should be the starting quarter. What if it is Zach Kauzan? I don't think he's healthy enough to go this Saturday. What are you hearing? That sounds like a man who has some scuttle butt. Yeah, he's got a shoulder injury.
Starting point is 00:46:36 Like even if he was number one, I don't think he could go this weekend. So wait a minute, hang on. We've been here for an hour and 50 minutes. Yeah, by the way, just for the record. We've been here an hour and 15 minutes. That's why he has to get to the end of the show. said what looks to be something he knows. Would you like to give us, is this scoop or scuttlebutt?
Starting point is 00:46:54 I think just scuttle butt. Scuttle butt. And what is the scuttle butt? It's Cutter's game. He's going to start because Calzada, I don't think, is going to be healthy enough to go. So you're calling it. Cutter is started. I would be shocked if it's something different.
Starting point is 00:47:06 And you're saying that Zach Calzada is hurt. Hurt. His shoulders hurt. So I think they want to sit him out a week. So you're saying the depth chart's not correct. It's not correct at all. Can I just ask a quick question? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:17 Why did you wait till now to say that? I know we'd get to it eventually. Yeah. With the three minutes left in the show. Yeah, you know. Can't say everything, you know, in the first five minutes of the show. What else would you say the rest of the show? I mean, are you trying to make it like a novel with a secret twist at the end?
Starting point is 00:47:34 Me personally, I wish they had gone to cutter in the second half. You come out of halftime. It's unbelievable. You got all half time to design an offense, and you come out and you get three plays, three and a half. You truly are unbelievable to me. Like, you didn't tell us that you were going to, You just held that in this entire time. Well, I think it was kind of understood.
Starting point is 00:47:51 I don't think it was understood. We started the show where you said, like Mark said, if we're going with Cutter, I want to see Cutter. Well, they did. Did you think it was understood? No, no, not entirely. I thought it was clear, though, that he would likely start, but I didn't have any inside scoop. But the hurt part. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:07 I mean, you're saying that he's too hurt to play. I think they just want to give him a week's rest. Maybe he can get healthy. You finger your scuttle button. I'm scuttle button. All right. There's more. There's more than I take.
Starting point is 00:48:18 I know you. I know how to read your brain. It takes a translation, but I know that you know something. I cannot believe you wait until the end of the show. Who's next? Chester is next. Chester. Go ahead, Chester.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Matt, I'm frustrated like everybody else, but I want to just say something. And I do think it is time for everybody in the Big Blue Nation, look at it, look at over, and evaluate their heart about this, because here's the situation. there was four minutes to go in that game, Matt. We were down one position. They had lost their starting quarterback. We're kicking the ball to them, going to their backup, and two-thirds of the stadium walked out on them.
Starting point is 00:49:05 You can say what you want to say about all the things that need to be changed, and I'll agree from the screens to the music, whatever it is. But one thing you cannot say is that those boys quit. And I want to encourage everybody to look at the mirror, and if you're going to quit on the cat, then yes, you should stay home. You should. Because those boys did not quit. There was eight seconds left.
Starting point is 00:49:28 We had an on-side kick that if we get it, we have a chance at the end zone to tie that game. And I'm just saying we're a lot of negative things on here about this program and all this and that. And fine, fine. We all need to get better. We all need to get better. And we need to look ourselves in the mirror. Listen, if you, if you got, you've given your whole day, you went through the money, you got four minutes to go, and we still got a chance to win a cut or bully coming in,
Starting point is 00:49:56 who everybody's complaining needs to be in there, and you're going to pick your stuff up and walk right out on them. That's somebody's kid down there. You're just walking, turning your back on them, Matt. And I think that we need as a fan base. We can't be complaining about, well, they didn't tweet about the player's names. We don't know about them. We need to get over it. You're either in or you're out.
Starting point is 00:50:16 You're a big blue or you're not. Appreciate the call to us, Chester. Yeah, beautiful call. Call the day right there. Oh, so you agree? I agree with him. Really? Again, you haven't said that for the first hour and 55 minutes.
Starting point is 00:50:30 We emptied the stadium. We were still kind of in the game. Yeah, it had been frustrated, but you're still in the game. Why did everybody leave there towards the end? Yeah, it was odd, but, I mean, I told, as I said, in the Pust game, but I'm not criticizing the fans. I'm not for this, but Chester giving a good alternate opinion. about a minute quickly chest or next tim tim is next tim go ahead tim hey matt um that changed the whole
Starting point is 00:51:00 complexion of the game and that was the first quarter with fourth down an inches and they threw like a 30-yard completion yeah one yard line and they scored and that from that point on it was the whole it was a great play it's great play and i mentioned on i mentioned on the show and i appreciate the call that's why lane kiff is a great coach. He goes for it, but he doesn't just run up the middle. He throws it deep. That's the kind of chances you have to take. Kiffin wasn't scared.
Starting point is 00:51:30 They end up winning the game. Draft Kings bet five get $300 and bonus bets. This is the last night to do that. Vikings and Bears, my Bears, Vikings are a one and a half-point favorite in Chicago. They're honoring the 85 Bears tonight. 40th anniversary. What you got? They don't lose and they honor the 85 Bears, man.
Starting point is 00:51:47 They didn't come here to start no shuffle. They're going to win. They are going to lose tonight. Vikings. I'm a believer in the Bears. Luther Burton, watch out for him. We got it. My name is sweetness and I like to dance and running the balls like making romance tonight against the Vikings. They can't lose. Thank you all very much. This has been the KSR. At the Somerset Golf Scramble, we'll see you tomorrow in Lebanon. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make
Starting point is 00:52:23 you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and headwriter Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends
