Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

I'm going to go ahead and tell you
this is going to be one of the,
I don't want to say more awkward shows,
but it's going to be one of the more interesting shows
in terms of place.
Ryan Lemon is not here today.
So we are here at Media Day.
But we have a couple things going on.
First of all, we have to talk about football.
Probably not going to be a positive conversation.
We have to talk about football rumors that include coaches leaving,
which is not easy to do when the AD's office is a few steps from us.
Just on the other side of that wall.
There's the athletic director.
It's basketball media day, and for reasons that I don't understand,
we have no players or coaches coming on with us.
But that's the way it goes.
It's media day.
It is media day.
but you know what?
I give them credit for letting us be here.
There have been times that they've stood outside the gates with weapons to keep us out.
So we are here, but we don't get to talk to anyone.
But nevertheless, we're here.
That way we can go to the media day as soon as it's over.
Hopefully, I'm hoping that Mark Pope or one of the coaches will be sitting in the staff
and someone will say, you know what, they're right there.
On the other side of that wall.
They're right there.
Because I think if they get that message to them, I do think that,
they would come. But we'll see. But either way, we're here. And honestly, in the first hour,
we're probably going to have to talk some football to begin with. But Drew, it's always cool to be at
Media Day. The first one of these I went to was the 2005-2006 team. I'm trying to think who was
even on that team. That was after the whole Bogan's crew and all that, those people had gone.
I think it was Robben, it was Bobby Perry, that kind of thing. And I've been, I think this is my
20th one. It's always fun getting to know the new players. It's getting a little different where
there's some returners now. For many years, we were literally meeting the entire team for the first time.
I'm meeting most of the time. That's true. And you've been away. I'm meeting Trent Noah. I mean,
I know Trit Noah, Brandon Garrison, right? But like, I'm going to be seen, I've seen Jalen Lowe.
I've met him. But outside, like, Diabate and Cam Williams and we got some news,
Yelovich is eligible now. So, I mean, those guys, this will be the first time I've seen them.
Yeah. It's always.
It's always good to just, I know not everyone gets into the nerd and out of the media stuff.
I hope you'll read and listen to our content.
But it's always exciting because, you know, it's not the start of basketball season,
but it does kick it up another notch when we finally get out here and get around them.
Well, we'll do a little bit of basketball as much as you can do on Media Day with no one here with us.
But we got to talk about football.
Are you good?
No.
Not good at all, to be honest.
I was going to say, are you good if we don't talk about the,
about the game and we just got to do everything else.
Talk about whatever you want to talk about.
Do you want to talk about the game?
We can.
I mean, Bali looked all right.
He looked okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He had some moments.
All right, so that was the game.
Another good end of the first half.
Oh, just getting pretty tired of those, to be honest.
Yeah, I mean, what are you going to do?
But so I think really the conversation about UK football is now about what's, what's to come in the next few weeks.
bye next week. You're two and three. And let's just go over a timeline of what happened since the last
time we were on the radio at Shady Race. Lexington radio personality, Alan Cutler.
Cuppman. He, uh, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy.
No, sources say, Shannon. So sources say. No filter. No filter. He came out with a report on
Friday that sort of got people all up at arms, basically saying that Mark Stubes had gone to Mitch
Barnhart and said he wanted out.
and to let him go.
But Mitch Barnhart said no.
We talked about this on the pregame show.
You can hear us talk about it pretty extensively.
I thought that was a, not I want to say incorrect report, but incorrect report.
I mean, it wasn't, well, because I don't want to say, I mean, I'm sure Alan heard that.
I'm not disparaging that he heard that.
But I don't think that happened.
I think a better way to characterize because they had a meeting.
there were some disputes over some things,
and Mark may have said,
look, if you don't think this will work out, you can buy me out.
That's not the same as going and saying, I won out,
which is kind of what I think Alan said,
which I think was not the case.
Do you agree with that?
I don't know the specifics of when the conversation happened.
Who went to who?
What exactly said, even though those are big details.
I just remember last season at one point,
I heard from a couple people in the know
that Mark would be willing to take a buyout
if they could get to a number,
but UK just nowhere near that.
And that was kind of all that was, maybe there was more,
but at least on my end of what I heard,
was Mark was willing to listen.
Now, I don't know if he approached Mitch first or what,
and then that they just couldn't get anywhere even in a ballpark.
Yeah, I'll be stronger.
Mark Stoops did not go and say, buy me out.
Now, I agree with you if they said,
okay, we owe you $40 million, we'll give you $39 not to coach.
I'm sure he would take that, right?
But, you know, this season I don't think is going,
well, and I don't think it's going to go well. But I also don't think it would be fair to say,
like, Mark Stubbs doesn't want to be here. I don't think that would be, would you agree,
I don't think that would be a fair thing to say. And he's a competitor, and he's been with these
guys since the spring. It's obviously not looking good. But internally, you're not a head
SEC football coach if you don't have the hunger and the competitive. So, you know, I think
he wants to see this through and finish it, even though the rest of us on the outside of
looking at, and don't have a lot of optimism and how that will look. So then all that stuff happens
Saturday. Now we have a by week and we talked on the post game show on Saturday about how,
you know, if you're going to make any kind of change, you would do it like today. Now, we got
Media Day, which is probably not something they want to stomp on. So maybe you, I mean, I don't know.
Maybe you would wait until tomorrow, but you probably, but let's do percentage chance.
There was some random person who put online that Mark Stubbs was going to be let go today.
People for whatever reason just believe that.
I don't understand.
All you have to do, Shannon, is put, like, Kentucky and then something relating to the word news in your bio.
Right.
And then people are like, well, yeah.
Yeah, but if it's on Facebook, people take that as truth.
I mean, they do.
They take it as gospel.
Like, literally, we've entered a society where NBC News could report something.
People go, I don't believe it.
And then Kentucky But News can put it and they'll go, do you see this, Matt?
Is it true?
Yeah, like, there's so many fake reporters.
A lot of this is in sports that people fall forward.
Like, if you just wear a suit in your profile picture and put like four letters, like WVGT, people would be like, well, this guy.
I mean, they work for WVGT.
This guy's reporting that they're canceling the season.
Have you never?
You don't listen to WVGT?
But it's got a blue check mark.
I mean, he paid $5 for the blue check mark.
He's got a blue check mark.
He has $5.
It's like that joke.
from what comedian who says, you know, if you get a limo, now you're basically going,
I have $40.
But anyway, we believe there's zero percent chance Mark Stubes is not the coach, correct?
Yeah.
I mean, now.
Now, the end of the years.
I just don't, you know, I'm as upset with anyone.
I just don't know what doing it now would get.
You at least let him finish the year.
If nothing else, just let him take the losses so it's, you know, you're firm in the decision.
I don't know.
If you did it right now, I don't even know what the move would be.
Because if you hand it to Brad White, you know, and then he gets on a little run, then it's like, well, now do I have to keep Brad White?
There's no upside to do it.
Yeah, I just don't know why you do it now.
It wouldn't do anything.
So then the second part was, and we did discuss this on the postgame show, if you were going to make an OC change, maybe you would do that.
ESPN Radio Lexington, which I didn't know had a Twitter account.
Okay.
I didn't until yesterday.
it just put out as if it was fact.
Bush Hamden will be let go Tuesday.
Just said it.
And that's the letters ESPN that people recognize.
Yeah, no, it says ESPN.
And it didn't have a blue check mark, I'll note.
Or if it's just like an ESPN logo.
And so then I understand why people would give that some credibility.
Yeah.
I understand that because it's ESPN Radio Lexington.
Now, that's not this station.
That's a different one.
That's the one Cup Man's on.
I didn't buy it.
And quickly, well, an hour or two later, they deleted the tweet.
And it said, according to Steve Tressler and a former player, that's what they're hearing.
Who's Steve Tress?
I know, Steve. He's a fan of the show.
Who is he?
Well, he does ESPN Radio.
He does Legends.
Okay.
So, I mean, that's at least a name.
Yeah.
All right.
So, I mean, I'm glad someone puts a name to it.
I made some calls last night.
I'm told that's not going to happen, and I was told if it were to happen, we would let you know, and I don't think that's going to happen.
So I think Bush Hamden will probably finish it as well.
I don't, I don't, you know, who knows?
Things can always change, but I think we get to, we get the Bush the rest of the year, too.
I think so, too, barring, you know, if they were to go four weeks without a point or something, then you might revisit it.
I just got a text message from Amy McGrath.
She's running, you know.
Matt, it's Amy McGrath.
She's back.
No, this is like, it's not just to me.
This is Matt, it's Amy McGrath, I'm running for U.S. Senate.
Here's why, so I can lose by a lot again.
Okay, go ahead.
I thought she's like, hey, Matt, I'm running for Senate.
Do you have any TV shows right now?
I'm hungry.
I'm hungry for blood.
No, I don't, you know, I don't think Hamden needs to stick around too long unless this changes.
But doing it right now in the by week again.
I guess that could be Stoops trying to send a message and get some excitement
in a little bit back or at least show that he's done something,
but I don't expect it to happen right now.
Yeah, I don't either.
So we are where we are.
Post-game show was, I mean, it wasn't a bundle of joy in terms of what people's
thoughts were.
Oh, by the way, thanks for giving me South Carolina.
My first career post-game show, that was fun.
Well, yeah, Georgia was fun, too.
This fan base is like, they're out, right?
I mean, they're out.
So is there anything you can do?
Is there, let me just put like that.
Well, okay, you say that.
But let's just go through the numbers.
If we finish three and nine, then it's obvious.
There'll be no supporters.
I keep saying football doesn't have an equivalent of basketball.
Like, St. Peters are in Oakland.
You just know, like, that's unacceptable.
Three and nine, though, is St. Peter's.
I'm saying three and nine after not winning a home game last year.
You know all the numbers we go through.
That's about as close as you can get to having an Oakland moment.
So three and nine is Oakland.
I don't think they have a choice.
Four and eight is pretty close to Oakland, and I don't think they have a choice.
Six and six, I don't think you could, I don't think you could fire him because he made a bowl.
Six and six would be hard to.
I don't think you could.
I don't think you could.
I think the number that would make everything miserable is five and seven.
Because that would mean that you beat a couple of good teams.
Because to get to five, to get to four, we're going to have to meet somebody good.
And to get to five, we're going to be two somebody's that are good.
That would be hard, because I still don't think anybody would be excited.
And you're probably, to get there, you probably will have won the Governor's Cup in the last game of the year,
which is just another big checkmark for a season.
Yeah.
But you can't get to five until you get to four.
And we're not assured to get to three because Tennessee Tech is six and oh.
They keep drilling teams.
No, they're playing nobody's.
They score like 70 a game.
Yeah.
They're scoring 70 a game.
So there is a sense of, I mean, we're going to win that one, but, you know, we got to.
Well, I don't know.
We'll be limping into that one.
They'll be fired up.
There might be 43 people at that game.
Yeah.
I mean, it's going to be a noon start.
Yeah, I mean, if it's three and nine, it's obvious.
And I think most of us believe that's the direction we're heading.
To me, there's no sense in doing anything at this moment.
At least let him finish it out.
If that point, if he doesn't win, then you know.
Well, so let's just kind of summarize.
We both believe that when we play Texas in two weeks, we will have the same staff we have now.
Yes.
Okay.
We both believe that if they were to finish with three or four wins, UK will have to make a decision.
Yes.
And not just a decision, a change, right?
Yes.
And I think we vote.
Three is certain four is like 90%.
Yeah.
And then if they were to win six, we think.
think we'd be running it back.
Build a statue.
I don't know if we'll build a statue.
But I think we'd be right back.
And then five would be the one that I don't think anybody wants to predict what happens.
The athletic article, by the way, that I talked about last week, it did come out.
And there's some quotes from me in it, but there's also other stuff.
And then basically the premise of the article is, yeah, probably time for a separation.
You don't really want that to be on the national media with seven games to go in the season.
Yeah, I got a New York Times like email with links.
You know, it's New York Times.
Oh, they made the links for the New York Times?
I mean, yeah, New York Times.
Yeah, because the Atlantic.
So, yeah, I mean, that one's getting a lot of eyeballs on it.
Yeah.
Usually when it's in the New York Times, no big thing.
Hank, Kentucky Football made the New York Times.
That's one way to look at it.
We made the New York Times.
The five-win thing, though, to make the basketball comparison again,
it's like we talked about what if Cal, you know,
loses a close win in the Sweet 16.
It would have been a sweet season.
16 loss, but to like,
it's like a big favorite, but to Drake.
Yeah, as an eight-point favorite.
It's like, well, we don't know what to do now.
That's what five wins is.
That's exactly what it would be.
859-28027.
We are here just mere feet away from Mitch Barnhart having to have this conversation.
They closed the blinds.
Not at all.
He did close the blinds.
We'll be right back.

Welcome back, Tegu Sports Radio.
I think the combination of us having to be a little bit quiet
and the fact that it's Media Day with no basketball players
and the fact that the football thing happened,
I think you're going to get giddy Matt and Drew.
We were up late.
I think we were up late doing cover C-Row, which they still haven't released yet.
I'm glad we stayed up to 1 a.m. for that.
I like that they also just closed the blondes on you.
They don't even want to look at you.
They don't want to see your face.
Yeah, so I mean, like the combination of all that,
I think you're going to get a giddy mat.
I just got a text alert from, I guess, I guess Rupertta says this.
It says, breaking news, Sherry Shepard is coming to the opera house.
Oh, hang on.
Running on.
Breaking news.
Sherry Shepard.
Is that the woman from the view?
I don't know.
I think she was the woman for the view that replaced.
I'm a lawyer.
Star Jones.
Look that up and see if she's the woman from the view, Shannon.
Because if so, then I think I have to go.
I'm mad, I didn't get an alert.
I usually get the alerts.
Yeah, she is from the view.
She is from the view.
She has her own show called Sherry.
Oh, she has our own show called Sherry.
Yeah.
It's a daytime talk show.
Oh, man, I haven't gotten to check Sherry out.
The group triple.
Well, now it was good breaking news.
Go Sherry Shepard.
All right.
859-280-2287.
One person writes, Matt, there will be multiple Kentucky Bud News accounts because of you.
No, listen, I'm all for the hustle of these young, because I think it's mostly young guys or women, like trying to make it and create accounts and calling them Kentucky Hoops or Kentucky.
I get it.
But I would just say to you guys, like, you want to have credibility.
You can't just throw something out there and be wrong.
Now, I mean, look, if something happens with Stoops or Bush today, then I'll say, hey, Kentucky hoops in your ear, way to go.
But, like, you want to build a following.
You need to be right.
and I think at least in this case, certainly on the Stoops News, it's not right.
And I'm pretty sure on the Bush News, it's not either.
That one I wouldn't go to the bank with, but I do think I'll go to the bank with the Stoops.
I mean, we could believe the Bushman if it happened, even though we don't think it's going to happen.
For me, it's not the people trying to make it that have their name on it.
It's like the anonymous accounts where there's no consequences.
Like, you just throw stuff out.
Yeah.
And if it's right, you get 100,000 retweets.
And if it's wrong, no one even knows who you are.
That's just kind of the world today.
Let me ask, how did the next eight weeks go?
I'm afraid we all know exactly how it's going to go.
How's that?
I mean, I don't think they're going to win a game outside of Tennessee.
So you, three and nine?
I could have.
Florida, Texas has me thrown off.
I think they steal one.
I think they're going to end up winning one game between Florida, Texas, Vandy, Auburn, Louisville.
they're going to win one of those.
I don't know how it'll happen, but they'll win one of them.
And then when that happens, I think there'll be a lot of, like, rally around the chiefs.
But I think if you don't win more than one, I don't think it changes the calculation.
I mean, we won one of them last year against Ole Miss, right?
My concern is that was early in the season.
I worry about just how the locker room will be when you get to Florida,
because I think Florida is beatable, but if you still haven't won at that point,
and Texas and Tennessee have kicked your baseball.
but I wonder just how focused Kentucky is going to be at that point.
You could end Arch Manning's draft prospects in two weeks.
Yeah, I think Archbite have.
No, I'm serious.
If he were to come down here and lose to us.
But you have a lot of guys that it's, you know, some of them said on this show,
this is their last season.
It's their one and done year.
If you get to the end of November and you haven't won a game yet,
I wonder about Kentucky keeping its focus.
I think that's a fair.
I mean, you saw a little bit that.
Because those are beatable at the end if you have it together.
You saw a little bit out on the end of the sideline at the end of the game.
I mean, there were some shots of guys on the sideline that didn't look good.
And, you know, we saw a little bit of that at the end of the season last year,
but there's still seven games left.
That's what I mean.
Yeah.
By the way, thank you to Virginia for beating Louisville.
Yeah.
You hate it on my pick.
I'm now 5 and 0 in the KSR parlay this year, by the way.
I cannot carry you all forever.
Well, I mean, I'm 3 to know.
I just have missed a couple, but I'm three and O.
I just have missed a couple, but I'm three.
Yeah, it's Ryan and Shannon that weighs down.
I mean, I think I've won a couple at least.
But, yeah, that was a terrible loss.
I mean, Texas over Florida felt like an easy pick.
I loved your pick.
So that was shocking.
But a little of losing, that helps.
Yeah.
But do you...
Okay, so what's the attendance going to be like for Texas?
That's the thing.
The fans can't send a statement because Texas and Tennessee will be crowded.
So they might be...
They might be orange.
The statement is Tennessee Tech.
I mean, the statement crowd is Tennessee Tech.
Because you're right.
You're going to have a big crowd for Texas.
you're going to have a big crowd for Tennessee,
and you're probably going to have a decent crowd for Florida,
although Florida doesn't travel like these other schools,
but it's still Florida.
So I think to the extent there's going to be a statement crowd,
it's going to be Tennessee Tech,
and unfortunately that's homecoming.
You know, I think Kentucky, do they play in, like,
Madison Square Garden or something the night before?
Like, that's not going to be good.
Yeah.
Or no, is that the Saturday?
Well, I don't know.
It's still not going to be.
It's up against something being that late in the year.
I don't have the calendar for me.
But, yeah, like Texas and Tennessee, I have people coming to stay with me.
It's like people planned it, you know, a year ago and kind of don't even care about the result.
It's just Keenland and the game they have on the schedule to get to Lexington.
So I still think that one will be a good crowd.
Florida, I think, we'll see.
But at that point, it's so far down the schedule.
It might be who cares across the board if they get their butt kicked at home two more times.
859-2-8027.
Who's up first?
Adam.
Adam.
Go ahead, Adam.
Hey, what's up, Matt?
What's going on?
Man, here's the thing.
If they were to go five and seven this year, I would be excited for this season.
You know, I want to beat Tennessee.
I want to beat Louisville.
I want to be Florida.
So those wins would be great, but it still would not get me excited for the future of the program.
Does that make sense?
It does make sense.
Actually, totally.
That's why I think that is why I think that would be the worst record.
Because if you got to five, you would have had a couple wins that would have.
be really big wins. I mean, you would have beaten, you would have beaten either Texas and Arch
Manning, Tennessee, your biggest rival, Louisville, your other biggest rival, or Auburn and
Vandy on the road, which normally wouldn't sound like a ton, but they're both pretty good
this year. So like, you're right, you would have two good wins, but I wouldn't be excited
about next year. It's not like I'd be sitting there going, well, we're building on this, right?
There's also the whole color bowling thing. Go ahead, Adam.
I don't hate Stoops. I appreciate what he's done for the first.
program, but it's like, man, I hate to cheer against the program, but three wins be an easy
decision.
Yeah, but you can't do that.
I fight against that, and I appreciate the call.
I fight against any cheering against the, like that, that to me would not be acceptable.
Do you agree?
Especially with the teams left.
I'm not rolling over for Tennessee or Louisville, not giving into that at all.
Yeah.
I want my team to win every day.
That's not.
Chearing against them is not something I'll ever do.
No, same here.
But we don't get a better draft pick if we tank or anything.
Yeah, exactly.
And you play Louisville in that last game, and you get it, it's five.
You're still beating Louisville on their home field.
You want that, right, if you're a Kentucky fan.
We'll take a break.
Be right back, KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Yeah, this is a little bad bunny.
That happened while I was gone.
Mm-hmm.
halah
hey i like
rick flare's this random woo
yeah like in the middle of it
it's great
humea halla
blah blah
this is the only song i know and i just know it
because it's this w-dhre entrance music so he's going to be playing the
super bowl
we always have this conversation every year is an artist
big enough to play the super bowl
and last year had kendrick that was the highest rated
super bowl ever or it was higher than even the
Michael Jackson one.
What do you think about Bad Bunny?
Second most streamed artist in the world.
Yeah, no, I see why they did it.
I know the most streamed artists.
Yeah, he's definitely big enough.
For me personally, though, it's like the turning of a page in my book of life.
Like, this is the year where I don't know it anymore.
Like, I know Bad Bunny, and I know, you know, I've seen his intro at WWE, and I know
he's his big entertainer, seen the SNL, very familiar.
But if you were to say, write down some Bad Bunny songs, I couldn't name one.
I got one.
bear holla that one right there so so you still got it you're still young i'm still i'm not i've
accepted that i'm going to be the person at the super i have one of his pairs of sneakers see look
you're like a kid over here no i but i don't know anything about him i i won't know any of his
songs um but he's definitely big enough like but it is a turning i agree with you it's a turning
to the page like everybody before like the bruno mars and and all those guys i was like well i mean
I've at least, I'm familiar with the music.
This is definitely a turning to the page.
Like from now on, it's going to be all like Charlie X1V or something, and I'm going to go,
yeah, I don't know who that is.
So, Shannon, it is like, I do think Bad Bunny doing the halftime is kind of a weird old moment.
Yeah, I mean, I'm aware that he exists, but I'm like you guys, I don't know any of his music,
but if you're the most streamed artist, if that's true.
You think you got to do it.
Then, yeah, I mean.
Yeah.
I don't understand.
I hear people got upset.
That didn't make any sense to me.
Did they think that the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl,
has to be like what you like.
I think they do.
Like, I mean, if it were me, it would just be Tyler Childers every half time.
And I think at some point America would say, can we get someone else?
I'd just be like, look, Tyler Childers, Sturgle, but the first half of his career.
His Sturge are good with that.
I don't know if Sturgle's okay with him.
Sturgle's like, I guess I got to do this for Matt.
Ignoring everything he's done the last seven years except the Bluegrass album.
And then I guess Stapleton.
I don't know.
And Dolly, but 50, like 40 years ago, Dole.
I'm Super Bowl to put together.
I just think that that would be a hard one.
I understand that they are like, hey, Spanish is, you know, a lot of the world speaks it.
Let's have this guy.
I understand why that's going to eat.
No, I'm all good with it.
I'm just, I'm having a hard time because for years I was the person in front of the TV,
and I'm looking back at the older people at the party, and they're eating chips.
Like, what is this?
Why aren't they playing the who?
I'm having to explain who Nelly is.
Like, you should listen to country grammar, mom.
It's a good song.
Is Richie Valens not available?
Now I'm going to be the old person at the party, and you're going to have to tell me.
So that's my whole thing with it is I'm just having to accept that.
The only old group, Shannon, that I think should get a ride at it because they've never done it is Metallica.
They should give Metallica a year.
Because I don't think they've ever done it.
And that's like the one old group that I think even the kids could get with Metallica for one year.
Don't you?
Yeah.
I wonder if they would want to do it, though.
What have they got better to do?
I mean, they're still selling out stadiums.
Yeah, I think they'll be.
fine. If Bad Bunny can do it, Metallica's, they can arrange it in their schedule.
I don't know. They would want to do it.
You think Metallica is too big for the Super Bowl, Shannon?
I mean, for free, though, they're going to be playing free?
I think they can get out.
I don't think Metallica is.
Well, that is true. They were the Napster people.
Yeah, exactly. And who says I've never heard of Metallica.
The thing about Metallica, I love Metallica, but there is a sense of like,
you're rock, fight the power, and you were the person that sued Napster.
Right.
They led that whole charge.
They did lead that whole charge.
All right, 859, 280, 2287.
I'm going to go through some other little things.
Obviously, football is probably going to be the big topic.
They're bringing back the denim uniforms.
You glad about that.
I'm very glad.
Pope told a group on Friday, hoops and heels.
What is that?
It's like one of the fundraiser women's things.
So it's for women.
I believe.
I mean, there might have been other people out there wearing heels.
I wasn't there to see.
Mostly women.
He told the women and Billy at hoops and heels.
that they were going to have denim uniforms for multiple games this year.
Do you like that?
I like it a lot.
I'm that perfect age where I was a kid turned about 10 years old when they broke them out.
I went to Petino's camp where everything was converse blue.
I still have a lot of it, so I'm excited to have them bring it back.
Yeah, me too.
So St. John's probably be the first game, don't you think?
It's our road trip too.
Yeah, I think that's where you break about.
Break them out against St. Johns and pick one SEC home game.
And then we roll.
That's what I would do with it if I were.
I want the roads, though, because they were the actual true denim.
The home whites had the denim numbers.
Well, maybe we do that.
Yeah, I want a road game.
I want full denim.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, so I am glad about that.
I think it's cool.
I think it's, it really is something for people, though, our age.
Like, younger people don't even.
Oh, no.
If like, I just turned 40, me, the people around that age, it's perfect.
It's really like programmed four people in their 40s.
Yeah, they just love that.
This is the moment.
You know what?
society all our politicians are older than you all the pop culture is younger than you this is the only
thing you get you all get the denim uniforms that's what you get and i cannot wait and i hope that
uk will keep doing this like two years ago they started they wore the 94s and i thought we're
going to start a trend and they haven't done anything else but we have so many uniforms that people
love and kentucky has not been good about getting alternatives mixed it up lovel to their credit
they do it all the time they have awesome they do it all right bring back old loa
goes Kentucky needs to do better.
Yeah, it's a good start. It's a good start with the
denim and we'll hopefully see
get what's in them to get a victory. All right, what's next
shit? Let's go to Austin. Austin, go ahead.
Hey guys, first time long time.
Who are? So,
I listened to the postgame
show yesterday and my biggest takeaway
from the game nobody mentioned
after that Seth McGowan
fumble, our only
player, only staff member trying to
get the ball snapped as a red shirt freshman
quarterback making his sports.
Yeah, that was a disaster.
You're right.
That was a disaster.
That's the most incriminating thing on the coaching staff that I've seen in a long time.
How do we not get that ball snap?
Well, that was, to me, and I appreciate the call.
The end of the first half is symbolic of why this is, in my opinion, not going to get better.
You actually had a good drive.
The end of the first half was the best we looked the whole game.
That drive.
Great play calling.
Cutter was on the money on his throws.
good mix of running pass. It was probably the best of what Bush Hamden's trying to do.
And then what happens? You get in your own way, right? You waste time. Jesse Palmer calls it out
in the moment. Between his Golden Bachelor promos, he is calling out how bad our play calling
is, and he's correct. This is terrible. He said, this is terrible. This is a man who goes on the
Golden Bachelor, and he thinks this is terrible. He's like, this is terrible. And no one, and
then we get down there and we have a call that's close.
Cutter, it seems like the only person that realizes it.
No coaches are telling them to go.
The offensive line is like playing wordle in their head and no one's snapping it and he's
sitting there going like this and then it's too late and we lose the review.
I mean, that is just the combination of wasting time and then not seizing the moment.
This is what I talk about about the fact we do not play smart.
You hear me say the word smart a lot.
about like the next coach or Mark Pope.
Smart matters.
Talent is more important than smart,
but smart can go a long, long way.
And we are so unsmart.
It's wondering what word you were going to say there.
But it's true.
Like we don't do the intelligent thing.
And that was a perfect example of that drive.
What made that worse is,
that's not the first time this year
where they knew a challenge flag
was coming from the other team.
I forget the exact game,
but it's one of the first weeks.
We hit a guy down the sideline
that wasn't a catch that they called a catch,
and we're all yelling,
just snap the ball, do anything.
Snap it and throw it in the crowd.
Just do not let them review it.
We don't get the playoff.
It gets turned.
It's the same.
It doesn't matter the play you run.
Jagger Burton should run to the football
and just snap it as quickly as he can to anything
so you can lock that in.
But once again,
only one person,
our 19-year-old redshirt freshman is the only one that I mean credit to him for getting it and knowing it but like he can't be the only one that realizes snap and that's like basic football if there's a questionable call and you have the ball go snap as fast as you can yeah I mean part of it is we just sort of in general think the pace of a snail is the way to live live life maybe if we you know just occasionally have a different pace we've had two ABC games this year and in both of them
The first half ended with us being laughed at by the broadcast.
I'm not kidding.
They were openly making fun of Kentucky on both ABC broadcast.
Somebody wrote me.
I don't want to say their name, but I will, Todd.
And he says, I completely understand I'm not the demographic for Bad Bunny,
but my high school age kids aren't even really familiar with his music.
Okay, I love you, Todd.
Your kids go to Lexington Christian.
That narrows it down.
I'm just saying, like, there are other demographics.
Besides Lexington Christian.
That's not a shock to me that they're not bumping Bad Bunny at LCA.
Okay, but maybe other schools.
Am I wrong?
What's the song?
Hala.
What's the one you know?
What?
I mean, we can't act like that's where all the trends.
All right.
There are numbers.
Bad Bunny does well.
I mean, they have, this is not my opinion.
He's the most streamed artist in the world.
Now, maybe they don't get it at LCA.
But we're all going to learn bad bunny together.
Sorry.
I just felt, I think that was fair.
Court physical therapy.
Mario and I were playing volleyball earlier.
If one of us had gotten hurt, we could have gone to court physical theory.
It would have been Mario because he can't move.
K-O-R-T.com, it's court physical therapy.
No reason to live in pain.
They'll help work it out, make it to where you're like.
It didn't even happen before they accept almost all insurance.
It's court physical therapy, KRT.com, 70 locations around the state with court.
See, I told you I was going to be in one of these moods.
Something about just being me and you.
Well, I intentionally try to goofy it up every time.
But there's something about just being me and you, and then we're in this place where we have to whisper,
and now I think the volleyball team's coming out here.
Maybe somebody's on a tour.
This is a recruiting visit.
Oh, this is a recruiting visit?
Who is this kid?
I don't know.
Are we going to get in trouble?
What is this kid?
I don't know.
What's his name?
I hope you liked the place.
Mario.
We could get some scoop here.
Mario, you're supposed to know who that is.
Oh, man.
He looks like he likes the place.
He looks like he's good.
Mario.
Who is that?
We'll be right back.
Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
Highlights are trending, opinions are flying,

Welcome back, Tughey Sports Radio.
All right, we did some research.
Darren Rippey Jr.
That's who just walked through here.
And he's like a great player, isn't he?
Oh, he's our top guard.
He's like, we're trying to get him to be like our point guard, right?
Yeah, well, when Tay Kinney from Kentucky,
when elsewhere, it was coming, it's all right.
So when he walked through here, just so you know,
when he walked through here, I was looking at him,
I'm calling a commitment.
Oh.
I can see it on his face.
Okay.
Did you see it?
Did you see the way he was like, yeah, this is it?
I can see it in his eyes.
He's coming here.
Are we worried that, like, Billy was around?
You might have seen Billy.
Well, I do worry that if he doesn't come, it's probably because he saw Billy.
Because Billy's wearing khaki pants, Shannon.
He did dress up for this.
He's a check from State Farm.
Yeah, and like, I'm a big believer.
You don't go to schools where people are wearing khaki pants.
So I do think, we've got to make sure that Darren Rippy did not think Billy was on the staff.
We got, you need, Mario, you need to go to Darren Rippy and go and make sure it's with the Billy.
He knows Billy has nothing to do with this program.
Mario go up and say, point at Billy, Mario, and go, did you see Louisville's director of basketball operations here?
Did you see him?
I'm sorry.
I apologize to people listening.
I knew this was going to happen.
I knew this was going to happen.
How are you all up there?
Given the people what they want.
I knew the fact I couldn't just be mad.
I did the mad on the post game show.
And mad goes to giddy for me.
Ryan's not here to keep us in check.
One person writes, yeah.
One person writes, Matt, why don't the opinions of the kids at LCA matter?
Why do you always have to make fun of people who disagree with you?
Because.
I don't understand what people believe.
Shannon, you and I talk about this all the time.
Why do people believe everything has to appeal to them?
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah.
Like, why do you believe the Super Bowl halftime show is required to appeal to you?
Like, you don't get to decide everything.
Right.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, that's people that think that, uh, I guess.
They're entitled, right?
Yeah, I mean, like, at this point, like, 50% of the country is not, is a minority in, like, 25% Spanish or 20%, I don't know what the number is, but like Spanish is their first language.
Yeah, they get one.
They get a show for them.
Everything doesn't have to be Jason Al Dean.
That would be a terrible half-time show.
So, you know, it's not required for you to like it.
And by the way, if you're listening to this show, chances are very high you're watching the Super Bowl anyway.
So they're not trying to get you to tune in.
They're trying to get to people who don't tune in to tune in.
I mean, the Super Bowl is obviously not tailored to me.
I'm a Titans fan.
How about your win yesterday?
Here we go.
What an insane win that was.
What an insane victory.
We still ask, but sometimes the ball bounces your way,
nine or ten times in the fourth quarter.
That was just a blooper real for the Cardinals.
It was ridiculous.
I said this on cover zero last night,
but if you played that fourth quarter,
a hundred times Arizona would win
about at least 15, $90.
Almost all of them.
Darren Rippey, we're reporting he's coming to Kentucky right after we saw him walk through here.
Did you see the way he looked up at the lights?
They have the nice lights on, by the way, too.
He did, though, frown at Billy.
That's the thing that worries me.
We've put a hindrance into this recruitment.
Why is Billy just walking around in here anyway?
What could he possibly be doing?
Shadden, Billy's walking like he owns this place in here.
Go ahead.
If we don't get the commitment, we're blaming it on Billy then.
All right, who's next?
The truth.
Truth. What's up, Truth?
Hey, man, I had a question,
I heard you talk about the dinner jeans.
About what?
Did you know where that...
You know, you just talk about the new...
The dinner jeans.
Oh, you mean the uniforms?
Yes, yes.
Yeah.
Did you know where that ad deal came from?
Where?
From a guy in Henderson, Kentucky,
who was a good friend of Vic Martino.
He owned a business, a dinner machine.
A denim place for blue jeans and him, Batino, real.
All right, hang on, truth.
So, wait a minute, you're telling me, I want to make sure I get my facts straight here,
you're telling me that Rick Patino got the idea to have denim uniforms
because a guy in Henderson makes jeans.
He owns the company.
He owns the company.
I'm throwing the challenge flag.
I'm throwing the challenge flag.
Do you have any proof, truth?
Do you have any proof of that?
Yep, because you know who works for him?
Who worked for?
A basketball player,
Walter McCarty above the work for him.
Okay, so McCarty was at the U-K.
Well, that is a connection.
So you're saying, Walter, all right, now I just want to get clear.
Walter McCarty's brother works at the Gene Place in Henderson,
and that's how they got the idea to have the denim uniforms.
Yeah, yeah.
All right.
Everybody know Dale Sykes.
He's a big, he's a big U-C.
Well, I don't know Dale Sykes, but.
So Dale Sykes is the reason you're saying.
Yeah, he owned the Blue G-Col.
Okay.
All right.
We're going to get our researchers on it, Truth.
And I will say this.
If you're right, that is an interesting piece of UK history.
If you're right about that, that would be really interesting.
Thank you, Truth.
Good to hear from you.
I think I'm going to lean towards he's wrong.
Shannon, right or wrong for the truth thing.
I'm going to say he completely made that up.
Okay.
Drew, right or wrong.
I'm going to go wrong. I have a lot of ties to Henderson, Kentucky. I got my driver's license suspended there.
I've been to that beautiful movie theater right there on the corner many times. It's by the Taco Johns and trees and trends.
Love Henderson. Mr. B. I think we got bedbugs one time in Henderson. See, I mean, the memories we have from Henderson. I don't believe this, though. I think Converse probably had a big role in it.
Probably. But, you know, right. If somebody knows, if somebody knows, 772-75-4, who's next?
Let's go to Hunter.
Hunter. How are you, Hunter? Hey, Hunter.
I have the Gene Company, by the way, that he's brought up.
It is a nationally recognized gene company.
Okay, I believe the company exists.
I'm talking about the uniforms, but go ahead, Hunter.
So I want to bring up somebody that I haven't heard be talked about.
Matt Hartline?
Mike Hartline. Mike Hartline.
Right. So I know he does something with the offense, not really sure.
That's his brother, Brine. That's his brother, Bride.
Okay.
Mike is on UK staff, right?
I think you're right, yes.
We have Mike.
Yeah, so his brother, Brian, is the O.C. of Ohio State.
Correct.
Is there any chance that he could be on one of Mitch's little sticky notes in the desk?
I think he would be.
Yes.
I do think on that list he would be on it.
Yes.
Okay, good.
So obviously you can't fire soups and hire somebody like that in middle of the season.
So if you're Barnhart and you have two weeks to sit here and ponder,
if we get beat next week or whenever, what's your move?
If you're in his shoes, what are you doing?
It's a good question.
We've got to go to break.
I'll deal with it when we come back.
We will talk a little basketball with all of the folks here that we're interviewing.
We'll be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy,
not quite.

Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind.
and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise,
breaking down the biggest moments in sports
and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves,
their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment,
and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on,
a Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman.
Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud.
But how long can this alliance last?
Tell me what you know.
Is somebody coming after me?

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Thank you.
