Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:01:19 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep. My mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's he at?
Starting point is 00:01:35 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to The Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Joey Dardano, and on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice.

This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from a Hypocrite Wednesdays on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:14 Looking for a mortgage bank to help you make your next major mortgage move, whether it's a refi or a home purchase, regardless of whether it's your first one or one of many. Consider our friends at Stockton Mortgage. But don't just take our word for it. Stockton Mortgage has over 70,000 five-star reviews and counting.
Starting point is 00:02:31 just like this review from Joshua, who says this about his experience with Stockton. They were super professional. Always answered my questions I had and streamlined the process. I could not ask for better people to help me and my family get our first house. I feel blessed to be able to go through them. Be like Joshua or the 69,999 others just like him and get started with Stockton Mortgage today by going to Stockton.com and get started. I've even used Stockton Mortgage myself on my own home loan.
Starting point is 00:03:01 your home loan needs stockton.com and click get started stockton mortgage nmLS 8259 equal housing lender nmLS consumer access dot org welcome to hour two of kentucky sports radio presented by stockton mortgage now here's matt jones welcome back hour number two kentucky sports radio 859280 2287 text machine 772 774 7525254 Kurt signetti by the way 64 64 years old so he's six years older than stoops but the fact that I thought he was young. I thought he was young. But that also says to me he's doing it. So, I mean, maybe the fair way to put it is it's not age mentality.
Starting point is 00:03:40 And there are a lot of new head coaches. He is a new head, newer head. But like, maybe the way to put it is, it's not so much what your physical age is. Are you coaching is your mindset to the new way of doing college football? I would have a rule if I was an AD. If I was considering hiring a coach and I heard them one time in public, and a press conference, bitch about the transfer portal and NIL, I wouldn't hire him. I'm serious.
Starting point is 00:04:05 I'm not locked in. I wouldn't hire him. Yeah. If you're complaining about a system that is not changing, you got to adapt. Then I'm not hiring. Yep, you got to adapt. If you're sitting there hoping that the Supreme Court, after they had a 9-0 opinion, is going to flip, then I'm not hiring you. This isn't for you anymore.
Starting point is 00:04:27 It's just not. Now, if you want to say, I wish it was this, and hopefully it'll change, that's different. But if you get there and go, you know, right now, like Mike Gundy should be a perfect example. He's, he's complained, he's complaining. Dabo, would you hire Dabo right now? No. No way. No way.
Starting point is 00:04:45 It's like that at any job. Imagine, heck, you work for Eyeheart and you come in in your interview, you're like, I really don't like being around radio from 10 to 12, but I would love to work here. It'd be like working at a radio station 10 years ago, as Shannon and I used to have in listening to people complain about podcast. Get rid of that person. Yeah. Well, that was our boss though. That was our boss. And I would say, well, you put this on podcast and they're like, no, podcast is ruining radio. And I was like, well, we'll be here longer than you because podcast is not going anywhere. That's one thing I think that made Cala Perry so successful. He was always a little
Starting point is 00:05:17 head of the curve. But now he's not. Now he's not. But now he's not. He used to be. He used to be. But then that was a change he was comfortable with. Then came changes he wasn't. You remember what Cal said when they first started NIL? We don't need to do that here. Oh, that's right. He did. Yeah, he did. Remember when he said that?
Starting point is 00:05:36 And we were like, yeah, he's right. It's Kentucky. We don't need to do that here. Well, you know what? That was the canary and the coal mine that said, eh, maybe he's not adept for, and maybe he's not adept at this. And even after that, he didn't think he needed anyone's help.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Like, I got this. Don't need anyone. I don't need all these other stuff. I remember somebody asked about hiring a GM, and he was like, oh, we don't need that. I got it. well so I wouldn't hire anybody that was like that now before I get back the phones 859-2-8-0-22-87 we got to talk about Kirby smart what a liar you know what I'll tell you
Starting point is 00:06:13 what what gets my gets in my craw are coaches and even human beings that get up all the time in your face and preach to you about how you should act and really especially if they take on the mantle of God. Dabo's the worst at this. You know, name image and likeness of the Lord. And then they're out there. That's why like tele-evangelist and those people drive me crazy. Because they, you know, they tell you how you're supposed to live.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And the next thing you know, they're going, I have sinned against you, my Lord. Like, I hate that. Kirby Smart's not exactly that. But there's definitely a holier than now to Kirby Smart. Would you agree with that? Certainly now. That timeout thing is not just one of my most favorite events that happened this season.
Starting point is 00:07:05 It's one of my most favorite events in sports in a long time. See, I hate it because he's a liar. That's what I have. That's what I make it so special. He is an absolute liar. The video has fun of it. And then he tried to take up for it at the end. You know, Shannon, he runs out there.
Starting point is 00:07:20 We are not stupid. We see you calling time out. And he's mouthing it. You are saying time. Time out, time out, time out. And he tried to say it. Then they give him the timeout and he goes, I didn't want a time out. I was clapping.
Starting point is 00:07:32 I was clapping. Did he not think that there were cameras in the stadium that could see him? We could have instant replay of anybody in the stadium. When people's natural personality trait is to lie, they forget their line. I believe that. They start to believe the lie themselves. I think in his mind he thought he wasn't calling time out. he in that millisecond he went from timeout to clapping
Starting point is 00:07:57 had convinced himself that actually he was clapping I understand people who lie and then convince themselves the lies true but that's usually over like time over maybe a year or two this was seconds later he knew exactly what he was doing he got busted and he played such a victim like oh you can see him one oh I was just clapping I'm knocking my microphone he is such a snod I hope Mario's filming He had a way to make Hugh Freeze look like the sympathetic character.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Hugh Freeze, who has quite a history himself, came off as the more sympathetic person. No, dude, big PR hit for Kirby here. John McDonough and Greg McElroy were fantastic. They were on. They were fantastic. How do you not get an unsportsman like conduct or delay of game or something? The NCAA or excuse me, the SEC should find him. You cannot blatantly.
Starting point is 00:08:54 lie like that. This is the new faking injury thing now, coaches to go, oh, no, timeout, clap. I was clapping. And then they did replay. Like, oh, nope. And then he claimed after the game, he was like, well, I told him before the game that the Auburn guys clap. Fine, maybe you did.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Maybe the Auburn guys were clapped. But you were calling time out. We saw you. As you were running towards the referee. Yeah. You're running towards the referee doing it. We saw you doing. What a liar. Let's not let the
Starting point is 00:09:24 referee get off the hook either. How do you fall for that just because Kirby's yelling at you? I agree. But I have more sympathy for the ref than Kirby. Because Kirby might have been like, well, maybe I thought, you know, his back was to him. He screwed up. Yeah, you can't let him get away with that. But maybe Kirby knows. Oh, yeah. And he thought, he's shit and he thought we weren't seeing him. Yeah. Do you think we're all stupid, Kirby? So if I was Auburn fans, I'd be living. First of all, they get screwed at the call at the goal line. Absolutely got screwed. How did they not give him a touchdown? He was across the plane.
Starting point is 00:09:57 That puts Auburn up, what, 17-0-0, I think, at that point. And then they end up losing the game. Yeah. But even though in the long run, it doesn't matter, that timeout thing, I'll never trust another word, Kirby Smart. So if you can lie to me that blatantly. I love it. To my face. He's not that smart.
Starting point is 00:10:15 They got busted. He did get busted. I remember hearing about it before I saw the clip. I'm like, well, I got to see what this is about, how close it was. Three seconds is all I need. That is so obvious he's screaming timeout, time out. That's why I couldn't believe he got away with it. I can't believe he got away with it either.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Okay, so a couple of people asked during the break, do you think give a percentage chance that Stoops is the coach January 1st? So let's just lay your cards on the table there, Ryan Lemon, Scoop. You have had 2025 tough year for Scoop. This is how you redeem yourself. This is your chance to redeem your Lamar Wilker. DeBockel. And Yaxel.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And Yaxel. I still feel really good about both of those. Really good. Here's your chance. What's your percentage? I'm going to go 10. 10. Wow.
Starting point is 00:11:10 You only think there's a 10% chance he's back? Yeah. 10? I don't see how this team is going to win maybe one more game. 10? 10. It's too toxic. I think it's just become too toxic.
Starting point is 00:11:24 and I think we got some really bad losses coming. I'm on to go 10. I thought you were going to be the most optimistic. All right, Drew. 10. I thought it before he said it. That was my answer. I just don't see how they're going to win.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I just don't see where they're going to win. You can't bring him back if they don't win. Okay. So what about you, Shannon? I was going to go like 40% chance that he's back. I still think there's a chance they get to five wins. And then you put the ball in Mitch Barnhart's court and say, fire me. So I think that's the scenario that plays out.
Starting point is 00:11:57 So I was going to say 25. I think the on-the-field thing, there's two scenarios. And I think the die will be cast Saturday. We're either going to play real well Saturday, maybe win, maybe lose, but be competitive, at which point I do not think the team quits. Or we're going to get blown out and then the whole thing's falling apart. That's kind of we saw that last year. No, I mean, there's a chance.
Starting point is 00:12:25 If we lose 35-3 Saturday, the wheels fall off. And it's, and it becomes, it becomes just a compostable train wreck for the rest of the year. It happens earlier in the year than it did last year. Yeah. If we're competitive, I worry about Shannon's scenario. I do think there's a world where they beat Florida or beat Vandy and then beat Louisville. And then they're five and seven. And you ended the year of the win over Louisville.
Starting point is 00:12:57 And then what do you do? I don't think you've watched this team play football. I understand. But let's just say that happened. Yeah, I mean, you'd have to consider it. I just, I don't think there's. There's the world. I think Opavia gets hurt before we play Vandy.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Wait a minute now. What are you doing? No, I don't want them to get hurt, but I'm just saying, you know, small things can, I mean, look at the Baltimore Ravens. They're a Super Bowl contender. Lamar gets hurt. They can't even score. you know, there are things that happen.
Starting point is 00:13:25 But I would say if one of your wins is you beat Vandy because Pauvi is hurt, that's not very comforting moving forward. It's like, well, we're just going to rely on all the quarterbacks getting hurt on the schedule. I'm not making the case that he should stay. I'm saying if it's 5 and 7, it's a different world. Let's say you beat Florida, beat Tennessee Tech, and beat Louisville or Vandy. Which, let's just say you beat Florida, Tennessee Tech, and Louis. And you're 5 and 7, and you've got a 37,
Starting point is 00:13:54 million dollar buyout, due within 20 days. And Mark Stoop says, I ain't leaving. What do you do? That is the worst scenario, I think, for Barnhart, because that's the number that he's got to make a tough decision. And you'll have beaten at least one really good, to get to five wins. I even say, Drew, four wins, you got to let him go. But you beat, you get to five wins, you've beaten two good teams.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Yeah. And you've beat Louisville. in our scenario at the last game of the year, all that good feeling of beating Louisville. Or even you beat Florida and Vandy and you go into the Louisville game with a chance to go to a bowl game. That was my preseason prediction, actually.
Starting point is 00:14:34 You know? I think that we're skipping over that Tennessee is about to beat them by 50 in one week. Tennessee's offense is first in the country. Let's just play the games, though. What if we beat Texas? I don't think we will. Believe me, I'm not predicting it.
Starting point is 00:14:48 I think we'll lose by 15 to 20. But what if we do? What if the magic of Keenland's Saturday, Arch comes in, collapses, we get a pick six. It's the old miss game last year. The fan base, I think, jumps back on board for a moment. It just goes to show you one game here or there. I don't think they do.
Starting point is 00:15:10 I don't think they do. I don't think people should be this way. I think there's part of the fan base that would actually be mad that that happened. And I don't think that's being a true fan. You should never want your team to lose. But I think there are people that want this to be three and nine, so it's just clear and over with. I totally agree with you.
Starting point is 00:15:24 I don't think fans. I don't think fans want it. I mean, I think you ask them, would you like to beat Texas? The answer is yes. Of course. But I don't think this is why five and seven is so bad. Yep. If you go five and seven and we poll the fan base, there's still going to be nobody who wants him back.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Yeah. If you're Mitch Barnhart, though, you've got to make somewhat a business decision at that point. But you also have to make a business decision in a year. You're trying to raise a lot of money. You're thinking about building an entertainment district. If they had to buy out, that entertainment district disappears. So that's the thing. No.
Starting point is 00:15:58 I mean, I think the entertainment might be a bad idea anyway. But it's like, do you want to build your entertainment district or do you want to get rid of Mark Stoops? I think even if you get to five, you're running out of an impressive five. Like if one of them is Tennessee maybe,
Starting point is 00:16:11 but if you beat Texas and then Florida, I don't even think that's that impressive at this point. Because Florida, if you beat Florida... Well, I mean, you would have beaten a Florida team that... No, if you beat Florida, their coaches getting fired on Monday. Well, that's true. So I still think it's going to be hard to get impressive wins.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Now, Tennessee would be very important. We thought Texas would be. I'm saying that's what if you're going to have five, you're going to need something you can really point to. Jerry, go ahead, Jerry. Hey, Matt. In addition to Franklin, of course, it got blown off the, blown out when Franklin got fired.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Oregon State fired their coach over the weekend, too. And here's a problem for which bar hard. That's not powerful for football. I consider that a different thing. I don't know what they're, I don't know what they're going to be next year. But the point is, is it the portal and all this stuff is speeded up this process. And everybody's talking about, you know, well, he might be Vanney and Louisville and get to keep his job. This decision is going to have to be made before those games.
Starting point is 00:17:05 This decision is going to be made by the Tennessee Tech game. Because if they wait until the end of the season to do this, all these teams you're talking about, they're going to be announced their new coaches the Sunday and Monday after the World Warwick game. No, there's a lot of truth to that. And all those guys you're going to want, they may be gone. So you're going to have to know who they're going to hire and now to hire if they're going to replace stoops. It's got to be announced by that Monday after the World. Well, it won't be the Monday, but I appreciate the call, but it'll be soon.
Starting point is 00:17:29 You're right. I mean, one of the reasons all these teams have let go of guys is so they can go talk to people. Yes. So, no, Jerry's right. I mean, but I don't think there's any scenario that firing during the season, do you? I don't, but Jerry makes a good argument. All these other coaches out there, they're going to be gobbled up by these other teams. But they won't.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Even if you don't fire him, you need to be having these conversations about a higher now. But, but Mitch Martin Hart's not going to do that. Well, that says a lot about him then because you got to be out in front of it. I mean, well, if you think you're going to make a hire, you can't just wait until it's over. But you can't go talk about him behind his back. You can't be hiring his replacement if he's still your coach. You'd have to tell him, I'm letting you go. I mean, even me, I would say Mitch can't do that.
Starting point is 00:18:12 You can't do that to a guy who's been here 15 years. You can't go be talking to his replacements while he's still sitting there. I don't know. I think you have agents saying or who's going to be. Well, that might be different, but Mitch can't do it. Yeah, no, of course. I mean, Mitch can't make it. And the thing is Stoops will find out if we're doing that.
Starting point is 00:18:26 I mean, coaches talk. Oh, yes, they do. We'll take a break. Very back. KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending,
Starting point is 00:18:36 opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines.

Starting point is 00:19:32 in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:19:51 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Join me, Keir Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. American Soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming. Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip. I'm Tab Ramos.
Starting point is 00:20:38 I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Polic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
Starting point is 00:20:57 he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen to Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast's Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:21:33 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:21:54 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying.
Starting point is 00:22:11 He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. I can't believe there's people taking up for Kirby Smart. And be like, oh, he was really just trying to stop. I mean, I saw the time out, Shannon. People got to stop just like, you know. It's Georgia fans, right? I mean, is there anybody that doesn't have a dog in the fight that's saying?
Starting point is 00:22:48 Let me ask you a question, Shannon, you're a conspiracy guy. Yeah. Did you see what happened with the crypto Friday? This feels like your kind of story. No, I haven't followed the crypto. What happened? All right, so crypto lost like $2 billion. Maybe, I don't know, I don't know what it.
Starting point is 00:23:01 A massive amount of money in like 20 minutes. And unlike the regular. financial market. The crypto market just disappears. We don't even know where it is. Right. Just gone. Crypto markets crash when Trump announces he's going to put tariffs on China. A person, and again, with crypto, you don't have to register your accounts. A person gets online 30 minutes before he announces it and shorts all these crypto things. Makes $192 million when Trump announces it and then immediately sells all his
Starting point is 00:23:37 positions makes $192 million in 30 minutes. The assumption in the crypto world is somebody knew it was coming. Absolutely. Did it and then sold it. Of course, this is the problem with crypto. And this is the problem with our government getting involved in crypto. There are no laws. You can tip somebody off?
Starting point is 00:23:58 So, I mean, what he did is probably not even illegal. But do you think they should investigate Shannon how the part? Because he made $192 million. Absolutely. they should investigate it. I mean, unless that guy has just immaculate timing and the best luck ever to be able to do that right before Trump made the announcement. And then sell it right after. Yeah, whoever this person was, absolutely had some sort of insider tip that that announcement was coming and they knew what they were doing. What if you find out it was like a member of the administration?
Starting point is 00:24:30 Prison. I think it should be prison. I mean, we don't have any, like we have no laws in this stuff. It's ridiculous. This is why I don't like. People are going to lose. In 15 years, if we don't do something with AI and crypto, our society is going to collapse because we were arguing about stupid stuff. Yeah. That's my prediction.
Starting point is 00:24:53 We're all sitting here arguing about who gets to swim against each other. And the entire system is going to crash because we don't have laws around the things that people are actually doing. Would you agree with that? I bought crypto on Friday. so I'll just sit quiet here. Well, that would hurt you then. No, I'm a pretty big. Anytime these...
Starting point is 00:25:15 But you didn't buy... I bought the dip. Well, you bought the dip. Okay, but I'm saying to you, but that doesn't bother me. I don't care if the market dips and then you decide I like the mark. I'm saying the one character you're talking about. Yes, it's not about you and what you made. I'm saying like, let me finish what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:25:30 No, this has happened three or four times. This happened with AI and China and Nvidia back in March. It dropped. It's up 200%. saying people are buying before. I'm talking about the people who are doing. That's what I'm saying. Our president says a message about China.
Starting point is 00:25:43 The market crashes and it fixes itself in three days. Okay. Same with crypto. What about the $192 million guy? That guy did something in my opinion that should be illegal. I don't care. I agree with you. Stocks go up, damn, whatever.
Starting point is 00:25:58 I don't care if people do that. That's capitalism. But people who know something's coming, make money on it, like that should be illegal. No, I agree, and it's happening all the time. And it should always be illegal. Yeah, no, I completely agree. All right. Like, I'm a nerd out, but like, Invidia, it's AI.
Starting point is 00:26:14 It went down to like $90 in March because Trump was freaking. But that's a public trade in Scott. I'm fine with that. There are laws about that. With crypto, there are no laws. Navidia, there's a set of laws. I'm good with that. No, I'm saying they put out chaos.
Starting point is 00:26:26 They sell. It crashes and they get right back in. Whether it's political, crypto, stocks. You're missing my point. Eric, go ahead, Eric. Yes, sir. I was going to say that Big Boom Madness was awesome. In the line waiting to get the player signed. We were interviewed by L-EX-18. I was going to say, Andrena Yelovich can shoot just about as well as Trent Noah can. Not as good. Trent Noah is way better. But he can shoot. That was my eye-opener from him. And two things about your bar. Fennedy and Lizzie need raises. They have fantastic service. Matt, get rid of your papers cross. They're going to go away.
Starting point is 00:27:10 They just have to use them all. It's a trial. I think they'll be gone after the Texas game. I think we look, I think we'll be out of them after the Texas game. So for the Texas game, they'll be there. I don't want them any more than you do there, by the way. And I'll tell Trinity and Lizzie you like them. But go ahead.
Starting point is 00:27:30 You were not kidding about your beef. That stuff is phenomenal. Thank you very much. That's the No Jay Lindis, though. Yes, sir. Thank you. Appreciate it. You think Yovitch plays?
Starting point is 00:27:44 Yeah, definitely. I think there's a chance. He's still a little behind now. We've kind of got to figure out how he's going to get his feet under him because he's unique circumstances. I think he'd be starting in February. Would not surprise me. But it also could be the big Z thing where he looks like a deer and just can't defend switching over, coming to play SEC basketball.
Starting point is 00:28:03 But he's skilled enough to still spot. Do you? No, I don't think. start having watched him play but i do think he can get i mean i think he could play more than z did but he's not going to start in my opinion he he was the guy we had to pick our one kind of dark horse guy i'm still on the yulevich wagon i just think there's a huge physical discrepancy from him and the other guys like if you just watch him when they're running up and down the court but he can shoot and i mean he's an awesome i mean like he's what our 11th or 12 like i mean what an amazing
Starting point is 00:28:34 11th or 12th guy to have that's what's so excited about this team. Let's say if he doesn't work out right away. Okay, we have others. It's not like you're all in and if he doesn't work. There's no backup. It's thrown off everything you're doing. I'm not going to say he's extra, but you know, there are other options if he doesn't pan out. I think he is extra. He is extra.
Starting point is 00:28:50 But like, what an extra bonus piece. I mean, to have that as a bonus? He does the one thing you hope once he's four guy to do. Just stand the corner and bomb away. Do you like Garrison bringing his little kid out? Yeah, that was cool. Although the kid was scared to death.
Starting point is 00:29:07 scared to death. I wasn't thinking. The kid was like, put me down, Daddy, get me out of here. Still kind of a neat little moment though. Yeah. But I bet,
Starting point is 00:29:17 are kids ears more sensitive? Yeah, you got to wear the big. Yeah, sensory overload kind of. But I mean, are they, are they like dogs?
Starting point is 00:29:26 The sound hits them all different. Their ears just aren't used to hearing that yet. So you don't want to just throw them into a rock concert. That's not crazy, right? They're like, you were a kid at one time. Don't you remember being a kid?
Starting point is 00:29:35 No, I know that. I'm not. It's not being a kid. It's not critical. I'm just saying, are they, they're like dogs. The sound effects are like dogs. Thank you. We'll be right back. They're the same thing. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:29:50 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. 8592-802287. Text machine is 772-754. I love the text machine with people. man when you say something about Nancy Pelosi we've made fun of Nancy Pelosi's insider trading for years I follow her thing that just announced about he literally looks to see what she does like of course she ends like she's the worst you're going to get no part if you ever hear me taken up for Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer you then you're listening to the wrong person Nancy Pelosi is the greatest stock trader in the history of the world I mean no kidding
Starting point is 00:30:35 but the cult-like mentality of oh no i said a bad word about your guy and you start yelling at me come on my friend we're all better than that 8592-82087 what person writes man i like paper straws come on no you don't nobody likes paper straws the other day no you don't when i was taking the wrapper off of my paper straw the straw broke with it it's like to get another one i literally i mean i'm mad at my own restaurant for having it i look in the mirror shannon and cuss myself out for us having paper straws. The only person that likes paper straws is Mitch McConnell. That's a really good joke.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Why do you step on his joke? That was a great joke. Why does ride step on the joke? He'll live in the moment. He had to explain it. He has to explain the joke. I love it. That was a really good joke, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:31:28 And you deserve to not have it stepped on. Cornbreadhimp.com. Go to cornbreadhemp.com. promo code KSR, full spectrum, flower only hemp, CBD gummies. The Seltzers are huge. You can get them, order them to your house. It's cornbread hemp.com. promo code KSR.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Try them. Help you relax, sleep, and more at cornbread hemp. One person writes, Matt, why would you dismiss getting James Franklin? He's won everywhere he's gone. Why not here? Because we would have to pay the buyout. Right? You'd end up paying two buyouts. You'd be paying two buyouts. But more importantly,
Starting point is 00:32:04 James Franklin has one. If he did as well here as he did at Penn State, that would be good. But is James Franklin the coach for the future? My answer would be no. He was great for his time, but that time is now changing, and I don't think he would be the guy. I don't really know what the future holds for James Franklin. I just think about when he ran up the score at Vandy and when he and Mark Stoop almost fought at the Citrus Bowl, and I've just never liked him, and I don't think I could turn that off. I'm amazed how many people. It seems like everyone in college football hates it. They all root for his downfall. Yeah. I've seen the guy. Penn State had the serious issue.
Starting point is 00:32:38 year or two go, and I'll never forget that press conference. He stood there like a smarmy look and he wouldn't answer and he made like some media intern take the questions. That was very bad. I just said a lot about his character because he put the one dude in the spot that doesn't even do press conferences, SID here it was, and he just stood there with his arms crossed behind him. I just thought that was a jerk move on top of all his other jerk moves.
Starting point is 00:32:57 A lot of times I have to drive on Sundays, usually from Louisville back to Lexington to do the podcast. And, you know, most podcasts don't update until Sunday night. So the only like new podcast that's out on Sunday is Todd McShay. So he does like a thing. And it's not particularly good. But what I've noticed about Todd McShay is he'll say anything. First of all, he called Paul Feimbaum a dirty weasel the other day.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Oh, goodness. Was he? Yes, he did. Go look. Is he not associated with any? No, he's with the ringer. Okay, I didn't know that. He got on there, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:33:31 He was like, he's a cheat. He's a liar. He's a dirty whizze. I was like. Whoa. I like it. I like it. I got to go back and hear that for myself.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Go look up, McShay. And you can see his co-hosts is going, hey. Hey, just picked up a new listener over here. And McShay is just like, well, but he was going off on James Franklin yesterday before he got fired. And he just seemed to hate him. Feels like the people that cover the sport just cannot stand. Yeah, I've never met him.
Starting point is 00:34:00 These scenes did not be respected at all by members of the media, by members of other coaches. They just seem to. Nobody seems to respect that guy like that guy. I don't know why it is. Tristan, go ahead, Tristan. Good morning, gentlemen. Good morning. So first off, shout out to Vaseline.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Whatever the opposite of a shoutout is, then it's the Peter Thiel, but shout out to Vaseline. All right. And my question is for you this morning, Matt. So you keep talking about video for your cover zero stuff. Where are you putting that out? Are you streaming it on Periscope or something? Well, we have it on YouTube, but it still looks bad.
Starting point is 00:34:32 I mean, the problem we've had is, it doesn't look good. I mean, I've said it makes Drew and I both look like we're high and crying. So sometimes the clips go out on Twitter, but they're all kind of embarrassing. We're doing the best we can.
Starting point is 00:34:47 We're using cameras that were literally from the first Blackberry. Yeah, so I spend a lot of time on YouTube. You search cover zero and all that comes up is defensive concepts. Well, it may be different way to get at it. We might be, I appreciate Tristan. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:35:02 We're kind of hiding it, to be honest. with you. I don't want to start putting it up until it looks. It looks awful. Like, it really looks terrible. And it's nobody's fault. Well, it is. It's Billy's fault. It's fault. It's fault to some extent. But they're trying to improve it. But we hope to have it looking better. But when I look at myself on those clips, I'm like, please tell me I don't look like that. Remember, I guess not remember. So I have like the Snapchat filter you put on people in their faces crying. Yeah. We're talking about it. Do it. Do it. It makes me look like Grandpa Simpson.
Starting point is 00:35:37 We're debating Baker Mayfield versus Sam Donald, but it looks like we're just crying our eyes out over it. Like there's the clips. We just, we both look so bad. And yet somehow Shannon Billy has the good camera. See, he knows what he's doing. He's sabotaging you guys. I think he might be because Billy does have the good camera.
Starting point is 00:35:53 And when we're doing it from home and we're on our iPads, we both look good. For some reason, the official camera, it's just terrible. They just sent in new ones. So we're going to try it again. Nice. And this thing is lit for like prehistoric torture. It's not lit.
Starting point is 00:36:09 It's not, it's not, it's not, it's not lit for video. Not designed to be a TV studio. This is not designed to be a TV studio. It's clear that radio people designed the visual effects. Anybody who's ever worked with lighting knows. Having it behind you and over your head is the worst thing you can do. And that's kind of what they do. Adam, go ahead, Adam.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Hey, what's up guys? I had two points. first seeing John Wall at that madness. This like made my heart happy after, you know, not only is he one of the most beloved players in UK history, but to hear his podcast from a couple months back where he was actually contemplating suicide, like for him to have that moment,
Starting point is 00:36:49 like let's like get him on staff or something like that so he can feel the presence of BBN all the time. It seemed like he loved it, Mario, it did. It just seemed like he strikes, me, and I think DeMarcus is like this, as guys that are kind of at their happiest, Adam, when they're here. And I do enjoy that about them.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Absolutely. And the second point, the pre-hyped video or whatnot, you know, imagine if we had something like that for UK football preseason. Like, wouldn't people be more engaged? Like, that was the best content that UK media, or athletics media,
Starting point is 00:37:29 has put out over the last five years. and to see that, it's like, well, you know, that's awesome for basketball. Man, it would have been nice to have something like that for football. Football is completely screwed up the preseason. I appreciate the call. They did everything they could have wrong. This is a, again, part of the reason I'm not confident about the future is they did everything wrong this offseason. Why didn't they have a fan fest event like the basketball team just had?
Starting point is 00:37:54 Why didn't they just tell us who our players were? Why didn't they have a fan day? Why didn't they have a women's claim? There was a fan day. It wasn't nearly like fan fest basketball. I mean, they had their open practice. They did. They had that for, it was the day after our media.
Starting point is 00:38:06 Now, there wasn't a lot of the extra stuff you'd want out there, but it did exist. I'm with you. I mean, basketball doesn't even need to do it in some ways, and they did it anyway, right? Think about football right now where we're very obviously at a crossroads, and we talk about some people want the team to lose. It's easier to want the team to lose or be disappointed when you don't even really know the people under the helmets. There's no connection of wanting to just root for them as people, really.
Starting point is 00:38:31 Drew's exactly right. He's exactly right. It is harder. It's harder to be critical or hateful to people if you know them. It's my whole point of how we should watch. We should all learn and talk to people that are different. You're not going to be as mean to people if you know them and you like them. We don't know these players. And so it's easy for people to go, oh, he stinks. They don't know the first thing about him. Seth McGowan's got a great story. We knew nothing of it or knew nothing of him until media data. McAllen's really good. He is really good. Do you think when he walks through Lexington, anyone knows who he is? No. And he's probably our MVP. Well, he is our MVP. I mean, when he walks, if he walks to the bars, or let's say he showed up at Big Blue Madness. No. You think people would know who he is? Very unlikely. And he's our, he's our most valuable player. He's our star. I don't think people would. Nope. I don't either. Well, how about at the last game where we have a receiver come off the bench and he looks like a NFL pro bowler and everyone in the fan base is like, never heard of this person. Yeah. Chris, go ahead. Hey, Matt, I just want to say before I start, I would shake Mark Stoop's hand, like if he were to be let go tomorrow, I would shake his hand and thank him. But I just want to ask.
Starting point is 00:39:45 Me too. We should. If that happens, we should, because he's done great stuff here. But go ahead. I just want to know, like, after 12 years, I mean, he's had six different offensive coordinators. We're still seeing the same end of game or end of half management, clock management issues. like why if we go six and six would y'all like to see him get another shot i just have to hear
Starting point is 00:40:08 it's not like it's not that i would like to it's just i don't think you really have another choice i appreciate the call because of the 37 million dollar buyout and we have to look at the mirror we still are kentucky football and six wins used to be the benchmark we used to be happy and have parades when we get six wins to go to a bowl game we're not too far removed from those days yeah i don't think we're going to have to worry about that scenario but yeah, I don't think you could fire him if you won six. I don't think so either. Seven's the tough one.
Starting point is 00:40:37 You mean five. Five. Five. Five and seven, yeah. Seven would be pretty easy, actually. For, uh, there, you know, there's a lot of myths about UK federal credit union. Can I ask UK federal credit union for a favor? Yeah. Can we change my commercial that runs during the games? They run it every second of every commercial break.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I don't know if you, I don't know if you, if you, I say, well, just plain wrong, Billy. They had this ad. They asked me to put on a country accent. And they run it. Nonstop. Nonstop. I love UK federal credit.
Starting point is 00:41:11 All y'all. I don't talk like that. No, you're like Brian Kelly when he got the job at, it was LSU and started talking like his country. My family. I'll do this ad like that. My family says there's mess about UK federal credit union. Billy. No, seriously, go to UK Federal Credit Union.
Starting point is 00:41:35 It's not hard to join. The myths are busted. All you got to do is go. Kentuckians get great rates and real benefits. There are seven local bansches are online in under three minutes, whether you wear blue or white or not. It's UK Federal Credit Union. We're not just for some, Shannon.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.

Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin.
Starting point is 00:43:58 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 00:44:22 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stopped by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Starting point is 00:44:39 Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. American soccer is about to explode. The World Cup is coming.
Starting point is 00:44:59 sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip. I'm Tad Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines. I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balagan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the back.
Starting point is 00:45:22 The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals. The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us.
Starting point is 00:45:45 Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. Shannon, some breaking news. Uh-oh. Hang on. I'm not even ready. You got this. Hang on.
Starting point is 00:46:04 I'm waiting. You're going to sit here all day until I do it? More important. Running. There you go. The breaking news was a lot. waiting. The SEC has released its
Starting point is 00:46:13 pre-season honors. Otega O'Way picked pre-season SEC player of the year. Wow. First team all SEC. Jalen Lowe predicted third team all SEC and Kentucky
Starting point is 00:46:29 predicted to be second in the conference behind Florida. You like that? You know, Otega, a guy we hardly talk, because he's hurt right now, We don't hardly even talk about him. No, we don't. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:46:41 We have preseasoned the SEC player of the year. He never gets mentioned. We don't even talk about him. You know, when's the last time we actually talked about Otega helping this team, what he can do to this team on this show? It's just a sure thing. Whatever that stat was last year about his double-digit games, you just, you know he's going to show up.
Starting point is 00:46:55 It is amazing, though, that like we don't even mention. No. We talk a lot about Lowe. We talk about Trent Noah. Today we talked about even Yelovich. Haven't mentioned Otega, and he is the SEC preseason player of the year. Well, congrats to him. I mean, how about that?
Starting point is 00:47:07 that's a kid who, I mean, when he came here, you would have never imagined that would be something that would happen for him. A lot of people, me included, wouldn't even sure where he'd fit in. I didn't know if he'd play. We kind of debated that Brea O-A spot. Who's going to go there? Boy, we weren't sure what was ahead there with him. He was awesome last year and expected again. Totally agree.
Starting point is 00:47:26 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, why do you keep saying that we have to pay Franklin's buyout doesn't Penn State? well, no. Actually, if you negotiate the contracts well, you can end up with what Penn State has, which is if Franklin goes somewhere else, the money's offset. So let me explain how this should work. Here's what Franklin should do, but he got fired. So because he got fired, he's going to end up getting it. But if he goes and works somewhere else, the money gets offset. So if he comes to, you know, Van, again and he gets paid $6 million a year, then Penn State will only owe him the difference
Starting point is 00:48:10 between what he would have made at Penn State and what he makes it vandy. So here's what coaches do. Here's what Mark Stoops would do if it wasn't due in 20 days. He would say, okay, you owe me $37 million. I want to go coach here for $6 million a year. But I want to make all $6 million. I don't want to go work there for free.
Starting point is 00:48:31 How about you just give me $15 or $20? I'll go away and then I can make my full salary there and get this $20 million. UK has an incentive to do it, right? Sure, they do. However, we can't do that because it's all due up front. So he can get his money, wait a year and then go get full money. So the thing that usually offsets your price of the buyout, we don't even get. That's fun. It's fun for us.
Starting point is 00:49:01 That's what people keep saying, why didn't Mark Snoops fall on the sword and walk away for what he's done in the program. Would you do that for $38 million? That's what I thought Cal would do, is Cal would say, buy me out for less, and then I'll go coach somewhere else. And then he just left. So Cal actually left money on the table.
Starting point is 00:49:16 Cal did us the best favor. He did it as a big favor. I mean, like, Cal could have made that a lot worse, and he didn't. Yeah, shout out to that Vegas hotel room at the Final Four. That's kind of what got him in the contract. Yeah, let's go. But here's my point.
Starting point is 00:49:29 If Stoops goes and gets money, goes and gets another job, it doesn't change the amount we have to pay. pay unless he has a job and then he negotiates it so he can get paid twice, which is the best possible scenario for Kentucky. He finds another job. He wants to get that full salary so he takes less than the $37 million from Kentucky. That's what you have to hope for if you want him gone.
Starting point is 00:49:54 But if he keep him to the end of the season and all these other schools are hiring coaches so quickly. That's a great point. Let's go to Brad. Brian. Hey, guys. If we can find $37 million to buy out stoops, wouldn't it be smarter to find $18.5 million for each of the next two years to go build the roster, which is the whole reason we're losing? We're not losing because he's a bad coach.
Starting point is 00:50:25 And you can say, oh, he didn't recruit. Well, he doesn't have the money to recruit all the guys that we're competing against. Yeah, but I don't. Here's the thing. I don't buy that. I don't buy that. I think you are correct if you're talking about beating Georgia. But we have spent more on our roster than Vandy has.
Starting point is 00:50:44 We have spent more than Missouri has. And we've probably spent a pretty equivalent amount to say South Carolina, maybe, you know, I don't know what all the Mississippi State, Indiana. So yeah, I mean, if we were only losing to the great teams, then I'd be totally with you. But we're losing to everybody. Spend money on a quarterback for those teams. We did spend money on a quarterback.
Starting point is 00:51:15 We spent money on Cal Zod. It just didn't work. He's getting pretty good money. That was a... We spent a lot of money on the offensive line. That's where all the money is. I appreciate the call. We spent...
Starting point is 00:51:30 Our offensive line cost us a lot of money. That whole line was paid at least a million bucks each. So you want to know where our money? went and went to the offensive line. It's all there. Calzada was expensive, but probably a little cheaper than most people expect because they spent so much on the guys to protect him, hoping that will kind of help fix some of the
Starting point is 00:51:48 problems. So far, it's been okay, but it's not been the strength. But yes, last year, money was an issue. I don't think that's the issue this year. Do you? I just don't know. Do you think they just spent it on the wrong people, the wrong way? I think when you don't have the base, the transnational.
