Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. It is our number two here on Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2-287. Text
Machine, 772, 774.
5254. It is Wings Day here at KSbar. Come out, get wings. We got our new burgers.
By the way, I said this. Somebody asked yesterday about food, tater kegs.
Oh, so good. So good. Did you just get some? Tater kegs, huge, huge positive. It's one of
the relatively new additions here. And, you know, in general, Wednesdays and Sundays are the day
that I think we have the best deals here. Well, we now have good drink deals on.
Thursdays, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
We've got these unbelievable drink specials.
A lot of people aren't taking advantage of yet.
You need to.
Well, don't say Saturday.
That won't be happening during the game of Saturday.
But the other days.
Gotcha.
You're exactly right.
859-280-2287.
A couple of people remind me that it is the case that the hoo-a, that thing, it is from
sin of a woman.
But I thought his question was, why did I start doing it for first-time callers?
And I don't know the answer.
But the sound, it's also a marine sound, but I got it from sin of a
woman with Al Pacino, he would always go,
who ah, yeah.
I would have gone with, I got it from the Marines.
I don't think I can fake people into thinking that I,
I don't think anybody looks at me and says, you know what,
bet that guy was a Marine.
How would you rank, by the way, when you talk about military,
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines,
toughness scale.
This is easy for me, because my brother was the West Point in the Army.
Army, number one by far.
than a big drop to Air Force and then way another big drop to Navy.
Then where are the Marines?
They're even farther down.
Oh, you think the Marines are the least tough.
Okay, I'm going to put them number two.
Army?
You just said they were last.
That Shannon just said they were last.
Quite a comeback.
I forgot about them.
I forgot about them.
Army, big drop to Marines, big drop to Air Force,
and then way, way, way down there's Navy.
So you just think the Navy are whim.
Yeah, well, I'm an Army family.
I will say the Navy don't do themselves any favor with their uniforms.
It's not the most, it's not the toughest looking one.
I was going to put Marines above the Army, even though I have a lot of Army connections.
Okay, we can't have our own show over here, Mario.
We can't have our own show over here.
We got a show right here.
Go ahead.
We got a live remote of what's next over here.
We can't have our own show right here.
I was going to put Marines won.
I don't want to do anything controversial.
I thought they were like the most physical and toughest.
Is that not correct?
Army. Army? Marines won, Army 2, Navy 3, Air Force, 4.
Air Force, they're in a plane. They're in a plane. They're not hand-to-hand. They've got
missiles. They're important, though. We need them. They've got to be smart. None of this is about
importance. I just said toughness. Marines 1, Army 2, Navy 3, Air Force Force. Shannon, do you agree
with that?
Yeah, Air Force is the Aden LaRose of the military.
It's got a zero toughness ring.
Wait a minute.
You say Air Force is a zero on the toughness scale?
Well, maybe a 0.1.
I mean, they're just flying around.
They're not doing a whole lot.
Yeah.
Aidan LaRoss did have a big tackle the other day after a punt.
So he's trying to work on that zero toughness scale.
By the way, I'm ranking that with no knowledge of anyone or what.
But they also say the Navy, the Navy SEALs are the hardest thing.
They're the real badasses.
You're swimming in stuff, right?
But also to your point about planes, Navy also have planes, the Blue Angels.
That's Navy.
That's a good point.
I'm putting the Space Force last, though.
Do we have a Space Force?
That's the newest branch of the military.
So that's real.
I thought that was just like a joke.
They're out there to get the aliens.
I think they got toughen up a little bit.
Let's talk about Media Day.
Mark Pope and Otega Owey and Jalen Lowe were our representatives at SEC Media Day.
They went last so that they were like in prime.
time. So they were at 6 o'clock. They Mark Pope, Jalen Lowe, Otega, O'Wade, the one message,
they all said it over and over. This is, we're winning number nine. They probably, if you
watched it and they just counted the amount of times they said the number nine, it was probably
40. I mean, it was just nine, nine, nine. Mark Pope said, I'm glad we're preseason number nine,
because that's part of our destiny this year is nine. It's clear they're pounding that in their heads.
also don't think you say that, Drew, unless you think there's a legitimate chance that you
could be there at the end of the year.
Well, you agree.
The tone has just changed so much from the last coach.
It used to be we would do these Media Day interviews, and I guess there's nothing wrong with this,
but it would be, I want to be the first pick.
I want to be Anthony Davis.
I want that max deal.
There were times where they would turn around a point at the wall at Devin Booker, whoever,
and be like, I want to get paid like that.
Now you go around the room.
The answer every time is we want number nine.
We want the national championship.
And our fans prefer that, right?
Yeah, and again, of course, the other guys, they should have that dream.
I'm not making it a negative.
I'm just saying it's changed.
Everyone says number nine when you're talking about what they want to achieve.
It's obvious they're trying to just ingrained in their minds, kind of, you know, manifestation,
talking into existence, make it happen.
So I love it.
I love they're not shying away from it at all.
I also think it was interesting.
It's always interesting to me.
Who do they take to these things?
Not a surprise they take Oteg away.
I think people would guess that.
But anybody who does it by my Jalen low stock.
there's a reason why he's the second person there, Drew.
Yeah, that was a big vote of confidence in him,
not just that he'll be one of the star players,
but as a leader too.
They could have gone a lot of directions in that second spot.
And I think that's a big endorsement of him.
More of even how he plays basketball,
the fact that you just trust him to speak on behalf of everyone.
Yeah.
I love Otega said he's back.
He's ready.
He's ready to practice and we'll play.
He's now practicing on a daily basis.
That was some news yesterday.
He came out of that yesterday, I think,
saying he's back.
Mark Pope also saying,
he scheduled Purdue because he wants us to jump right in in the basketball season.
He was like, I want to know immediately where we are.
If you listen to him, talk about Purdue, he sounded like a guy who's trying to win the game, though.
He wasn't like, this is just a practice.
He was like, I want to see where we are now so that we can see where we're going.
A lot of coaches will say bring it on anywhere anytime, and they don't always follow it up when they make the schedule.
Pope really seems to want to play marquee opponents as often as he can.
He said he wants to add more games to the schedule
Just so he can add more marquee opponents
Not more cupcakes
I really believe him when he wants all these challenges
Says he wants them
A part of me is sad
Those games against Trancy and Georgetown and Wesleyan are gone
But you can't help but get excited
You got the number one team in the country coming in here
Going to find exactly where you are right when the season starts
What do we think that atmosphere is going to be like
For that game?
Like you think it's going to be
You think it's going to be as rowdy as like a normal
Regular season game you do?
Our fans will change
treat that like it is the final four.
Whatever happens, if we
lose, there will be complaining,
overreacting, if we win, there will be overreacting.
We are going to treat that like it's
the biggest game that's ever been played.
Are they making you do a post-game show after that?
We're doing a pre-and-post game for that game, yeah.
That tells you right there how big.
You'll have full bank of callers after an
exhibition game against Purdue, I guarantee it.
Let's say we lose, though. Are we going
to overreact? Yeah, of course. People won't
panic and skies falling,
but there will be a big frustration.
over losing a game that will have no impact on your resume.
Let's say we win by 8 or 10.
Are the expectations for this team then completely out of, like out of control?
Yes, and we are by far the most obnoxious fan base in sports if that happens.
We won't shut up.
We'll be at airports pumping our chest with our logos on like we do anytime our team's good.
You will not be able to shut us up if we give it to them prehandedly in that first game.
Yeah, because everybody across the country says Purdue is the number of,
one team like there's no discussion it's Purdue
and then Houston so if they're able to knock off the
number one team right off the bat absolutely we're
going to go I think it's a great
situation for Kentucky because
in some ways it's no lose
because if you lose it's the number one team in the country
but if you win then you go
oh wait a minute this is not just hype
this is real right yes
and we will we will take it to the
nth degree we're just so excited about it
so whether we overreact or not it's just who we are
this is what makes Kentucky basketball special
And you have Louisville three weeks away on top of it.
That's true.
I hate that Louisville's so early.
I really don't like that.
I wish that's one of those.
It was not broke.
Why did they fix it?
I mean, that Louisville game kind of between Christmas and New Year is the last game before you went into conference play.
I don't like playing them November 11th.
I really don't.
And maybe that's just what it'll have to be for the rest of the time, but I don't like it.
I was going to ask you, when it comes back to Rupp, do you think they will move it to?
move it back.
But I think it's, I think it's in part because teams are wanting to take that time between
Christmas and New Year off now.
They're just, and most teams already did.
We were one of the few teams that played those games.
I just, I just, I don't like it.
I don't like playing November 11th.
I just don't.
I don't like it either.
But if you beat Purdue and you have that excitement, then you beat Louisville, my goodness,
it's not even middle of November.
Yeah.
And the fans will be on fire with excitement.
The Champions Classic is now going to be like the fifth game of the year.
year, whereas it used to be the first or second game. Now it's like the fifth game of the year.
For some reason, in my mind, I'm okay with that game being early. I guess maybe because we're used to it.
I do not like the Louisville game being this early at all.
Yeah. One person writes, Matt, you're dismissing toughness of the Air Force.
Did you know we have an Air Force pilot and a mom running for Senate? I don't know how you
could say that. I wonder who that would be.
Yeah. Why is she running? Like, you don't have to. We can get somebody else.
Maybe she's bored
She didn't even cover the spread
In that
What last election did she?
I would tell you
I would not put her
As part of the KSR Parley
What did it blow out?
I don't remember
But wasn't it like not
I mean Amy McGrath
Plus 9 is not a bet
That you should
That is not a bet
You should invest in
Not even teasing that one
For more
Not a 7 point tease
No
All right who's next
Let's go to Andrew
Andrew
Andrew
Hey Matt, I was curious
What percentage of the fan base
We think wants Stoops to be let go
Because they really want Sumerall
And how likely do you think
Sumerall would come here versus other job opening?
Yeah, so I don't think
This is just my take
And I appreciate the call
I think last year
A lot of the people that wanted Stoops gone
Were people who also
Wanted Sumerall
Right? It was almost like
I want Stoops gone because I want Summerall
I don't think that's what it is this year
I think this year there's a huge segment of the fan base that just wants him gone, and it doesn't even matter what's next.
Like if Summerall goes somewhere else, they're still going to feel that way either way.
They're just like, give us a new breath no matter who it is.
Would you agree with that?
I agree with that.
Summerall is still the dream for most people, but I think it's flipped to where anything.
A lot of people will be like, this tree I'm looking at.
Just give me something that's not Mark Stoops.
I think, yeah, Somerl's going to grab him.
I mean, that's obvious.
Some big school is going to grab him.
He may not be available even if Kentucky's job becomes open.
So Kentucky, who do they go after then?
A young go-getter?
Is that going to be the answer?
But I think for a lot of fans, they don't, the first, last year, I think the first question,
should you keep stoops, was tied with the second question of who they wanted.
Now, I think fans are, we want to change, and I don't even, like, we'll worry about who it is after that.
Let's just change, and then we'll worry about it.
Last year, Sumrah's personality was working against Stoops with a lot of the fan base.
This year, Stoops' record is just beating himself up.
He doesn't need a popular candidate to upset fans or want to change.
It's going to be fascinating, though.
What if we play Texas and beat them or lose on a last second field goal?
I just think what's crazy is I don't think it's going to change anything.
I think we have a chance to beat a Manning on our home field,
a team that was a pre-season national championship favorite,
and for a lot of our fans, it would not even change how they'd feel.
Well, if they win 17 to 14, people still be mad.
What if we won?
Now, if your offense suddenly shows some groove,
you win 30-something to 28, that's exciting.
But for me and a lot of people, the biggest issue,
it has been over two years since the offense has scored three touchdowns in a game.
That is correct.
That is just unacceptable.
This is an SEC.
That is in an SEC game.
Or just any.
In a Power 4 game.
That is an unbelievable statistic.
Who's next?
Kentucky Reds.
Kentucky Reds.
Kentucky Red.
Go ahead.
Hey, how are you guys today?
Good.
What's up?
I'd like to know, oh, by the way,
I think the Green Berets is the test.
and then the Navy sealed.
But my question is, can somebody please, please help me get that SCC Network Plus.
I bought Hulu.
I bought Disney.
All right, so Hulu's now gone.
So the easiest way to get SCC Plus, first of all, do you have cable or do you have direct TV?
I have dish
You have dish
Do you get the SEC network on your dish?
Yeah
Okay
So you have now access to SEC Plus
You don't need to buy anything else
You just need to download the ESPN app
And get your login credentials
from your dish
And you will be able to get it
Now how you do it
I don't know how your dish works
but you have it now.
You don't have to buy anything else.
Okay.
So, because the years, I'm 68.
I understand.
I understand.
But you.
I understand.
But you, if you'll figure out how to log into your DISH account,
then you'll be able to get, on the ESPN app, you'll be able to get in.
Okay?
Oh, okay.
All right.
Good luck.
I appreciate the help.
And one more thing.
It's never good at Kentucky losing.
I don't care of their plan.
SGA's thing.
I understand.
Lose, it's never good.
Well, thank you very much.
I appreciate the call.
And good luck.
And let me say we're going to have, appreciate the call.
There are going to be more people like him.
There are six games this year on SEC Plus.
Yep.
And a lot of our fans do not know how to get it or don't have it.
and I think you're going to really see that.
The Purdue games on the SEC Network.
But when we get to Georgetown the next week, that's a big game that's only on SEC Plus.
And I think there's going to be a lot of people going, how do I get that?
Georgetown, the BBN Tipoff Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism is also on the
Georgetown's first.
I think we're going to get a lot more phone calls just like that.
People try to find the SEC Plus because old guys like maybe can't find it.
But if you have the SEC Network, this is the key thing to remember.
If you have the SEC network on anything you watch,
you do have access to SEC Plus.
You just have to figure out how to get into it.
And I think that guy had it twice because he has the Disney bundle and it's on there too.
Yeah, we'll take a break.
Be right back.
It's KSR.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't
realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the play.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
You figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
American Soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.

On our podcast, inside American soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Polisic.
I'm not worried about balligan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers,
he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise
if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.

Welcome back at East Kentucky Sports Radio,
859,280, 2287.
All right, so let's correct some things.
Amy McGrath, Marine pilot, not Air Force.
Oh.
Okay, I should have known that.
I saw some commercials when she ran.
That should have...
She was a fighter pilot, though, right?
Yeah, but for the Marines.
Lots of people riding me saying Navy SEALs are not the toughest.
It's something called Delta Force.
Which branch is that?
I've heard of them, but I can't tell you.
where they
Army?
Their Army.
Okay.
So maybe we could get
Delta Force versus Navy SEALs
going at each other.
I think that would be
that I'd watch that
wouldn't you?
Who's the toughest?
I've been watching
the Randall Cobb show
where he's doing all this.
He could fit for one of these.
Yeah, I'll pick the Delta Force
over Randall Cobb.
On your own there.
You take Randall Cobb.
Oh, Green Eyes looks like he could do it
if America needs him.
Coast Guard.
Is that in a branch
or is that its own thing?
Someone says branch.
Its own branch? He seems confident back there. It's its own branch.
Are they tougher than the Air Force or not?
He doesn't want to answer. Okay, that's all right. I understand. You don't want to differentiate.
Everybody's serving. There's no reason to rank them.
It's safe to say they're all tougher than we are.
I don't think that's that. I don't think anybody was arguing that.
One person writes, Matt, you have brainwashed the fans against Mark Stoops.
It's always me.
It's never the person that's on the field or the person that's coaching.
It's always me.
You used to want him to have a statue.
Now you encourage people to get rid of him for ratings.
You're going to do the same thing to Mark Pope, just wait and see.
Well, first of all, I don't know that I encouraged a statue.
I do think there was a time where I said that he had earned a statue if we ever did it.
I don't even think that's necessarily incorrect.
I mean, he's probably the best coach we've had.
doesn't mean you can have a statue and it's still not be he should coach forever right i mean
john caliperi might deserve a statue somewhere he shouldn't have been to coach anymore and as far as
that you turn on them i don't i'm not turning on anyone personally sometimes people's times have passed
right you can be great at something and that doesn't mean that you should keep doing it forever so
you know there might be a time that we go mark pope it was awesome
now it's time for something else.
That's just the nature of coaching.
You don't get to, there's no,
there's no requirement that you should get to coach
until the day you die.
Like you should coach until you're effective,
until you're not effective,
and at least recently,
Mark Stoops has not been effective.
And ultimately that's what you're talking about.
The day you start,
I heard a baseball GM say,
the day you start rewarding play,
for what they did in the past, you guarantee your bad future.
The day you start rewarding coaches for what they did in the past,
and not what they're going to do in the future, is Drew the day you start losing.
Yeah, and I still think, maybe not a statute, but I still think they should do something for stoops at the stadium.
He should be recognized over there.
Maybe not right now, but eventually that should still be there.
And I still think if he can't find a way to win a few more games, then it should probably over.
Both of those things can be true.
Both those things can be true, yes.
I think both those things are true.
I know we said this about Cala, Perry,
should be celebrated for what he did here.
It was also time for it to end.
Those two things are not inconsistent, Ryan.
And it makes me a little sad.
I mean, I loved Mark Stoops as my coach.
I wanted him to be my coach, but it's just not working right now.
And it makes me sad because he's the longest-tenured coach in the SEC right now.
Nobody's coached longer than him in the SEC.
That just tells you what the shelf life has.
coach how long it really is.
That's part of the problem, though.
He's the longest tenured, and there's 16th out of 16.
Like, that in itself is not a good look.
Totally agree with you.
Who's next, Shannon?
Let's go to Dennis.
Dennis.
Go ahead, Dennis.
Hey, you know, I think Barnhart is going to really regret that statement that he made to John
Hill because I just saw on Facebook here a little while ago.
You know, the site Saturday down south?
Yes.
Well, the headlines were.
something that I don't know if they said Barnhart or Kentucky AD,
but basically said that still proud of the contract that they gave Stoops in 2022.
That's a lot of lasting emotion.
Bad statement by him.
You're right.
Go ahead.
And as far as why would we want, and I'm not saying he'd be a bad hire,
but why would Kentucky, Kentucky fans are warning off.
Why would they want a coach from another coach from the defense side of football?
It's a great question.
I appreciate the call.
I do think there's an argument that Kentucky fans would like an offensive coach.
This is a fan base that wants to score points.
I mean, this is not a fan base.
This fan base was probably permanently spoiled by Hal Mummy in the sense of like football
was fun, and I think we've had a desire for it to be fun since.
And I think people want that.
I do.
For years, we especially,
going back to our old gambling podcast.
We've made fun of Iowa football for how boring they are.
And like, why would anyone want to watch that?
We have become that, but we're not winning.
Totally.
You're exactly right.
Boring and losing is a tough combination.
Who was it?
It came out and not long ago said,
we were losing, but we were losing 45 to 44.
And fans were still excited about the program because it was fun to go watch a game.
Yeah.
Remember, Mummy and Petino and Tubby, early Tubby,
at the same time, spoiled this fan base for how much we enjoy points.
Uh-huh.
And we don't really have, we don't have points.
Commonwealth Causes is creating a better Kentucky by shining a spotlight on local charities.

You love it.
I'll play the Queen of Hearts Raffle.

We'll be right back.

Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio here.
Wings Day, Dollar Wings, all day and evening.
We have the smoked ones.
Also have like fried ones as well.
So, you know, we got both kinds.
One person writes, Matt, how does your bar influence your criticism of an entertainment district?
And can you separate the effect it'll have on your business from the fans?
Well, first of all, the thing wouldn't open for two and a half for three years.
So I'm just giving you my opinion that I think if you put a bunch of restaurants next to Commonwealth Stadium, it's not going to work.
Now, a hotel is a great idea.
A hotel is a great.
But, I mean, the whole idea of putting a bunch of stuff over there, it's open eight days a year, right?
That's what I was picturing it on a Monday night in June.
Yeah, nobody lives over there.
It's going to be completely.
Campus is dead.
Campus aren't there.
Yeah, and then the summer.
And then here's the other thing.
The traffic there is so terrible, right?
So, like, now, if they do it, I'm going to cheer them on and hope it works.
It'll have very little effect on us, but it won't, it doesn't change my idea of, you know,
by the way, this isn't the greatest time to build restaurants either.
I mean, this is a very hard time.
So, I mean, if you're asking me, the university has access to 120.
$25 million, how should you spend it?
That's not where I would put it right now in this age of NIL and all the rent.
Tennessee is doing it, but their stadiums are next to each other and it's between them.
So you get more use out of it for basketball, other than in the city.
And it's already a place where people are.
Yeah.
You know, like people, think about where Kroger Field is.
Nobody is there unless they're playing, right?
And it's a two-lane road out.
You know, it's not, I just, to me, that's what I would be skeptical of.
That's my big negative thing to say is the location.
It's on the south end of campus.
The only reason people go there is to a baseball game, a football game, or a soccer game.
And students don't even live over there.
Students don't live over there.
That's where class buildings are.
So the students are on the other side of campus for the most part.
So it's just, you know.
You know, entertainment districts, like the one the Reds, Cincinnati have, you know, stuff like that.
It works even during non-game days.
But that's in downtown.
Exactly.
That's like right in the middle of downtown.
it's not in this set-apart area.
And how many home baseball games do you get compared to the college football games?
That's exactly right.
81 versus 8.
Even basketball.
If you're building it by a basketball arena, you're getting more opportunities.
Just with football and nothing else to bring you out there, I don't know what it would do the rest of the year.
One person writes, Matt, coach Mikhail McLean challenged the KSR media to a UK basketball coaches versus KSR game.
Are you in?
I saw that.
Didn't see that coming.
Yeah, I'm in.
I mean, we'll lose, but like, let's bring it on.
I mean...
We'll do it better than the Boston Media did against the Celtics.
The Boston Media lost by 53 points to the South...
Four points the entire game.
They lost 57 to 4.
I was actually impressed they scored four.
You don't think we'd score four?
Oh, we'd score four.
But we're better than the Boston media.
So let's pick our lineup.
This is KSR, the website and KSR radio show.
The best basketball player associated with...
KSR, Stephen Pete.
He's our bucket.
You're taking all the shots, Stephen, get open.
You might not see it when you look at him, but Stephen Pete can put.
He's like a Louisville Rec League legend.
He's a rec league legend.
Second best player, Jack.
Jack Pilgrin was the MVP of the Caliperi Fantasy Camp one year.
So you're probably going Jack and Stephen as your wings.
Yeah.
Probably put Mario at the point.
He's our point guard.
But Mario don't have too high hopes.
I do.
I've watched it.
He's played in the over here on the Blue
courts at UK for years.
Yeah, but he never gets a second game.
That's one of the problems with having Mario.
But you're skipping up or something.
He plays.
That's already an advantage for all of us.
That is an advantage.
So we're starting Mario.
So we're starting Mario.
Big guy's got to be you or Nick Rouse.
We've got to have some height in there somewhere.
I'll be the big, but I'm going to need to be subbed out.
You and Nick Rouse rotate?
I'm in a knee.
Rous and I are going to have the platoon because I'm not, I can't go a full section.
Drew, I think, is there anybody else?
on the website side
better than you?
I'm all about the youth.
Zach, we got to remember these coaches
are all over 50. We're going to need to run.
So anyone young takes priority.
I don't care if they even know how to hold a basketball.
We're going to control the tempo because
the first team to cramp loses. Do we put Ryan
on the court? I'm going to be
on the team, but I am not playing.
Do we put Billy on the court, Shannon?
No, absolutely not.
No. Get them the water bucket.
I have some good game tape out there.
Turns, college interns that are good?
We probably find a few.
I have some game tape out there, but it's on a VHS.
It's not doing well for recently turning 40.
What if I gave Ramel Bradley a quick internship?
That I think it's a good idea.
A temporary internship for this.
Woo!
Woo counts.
He's been multiple Christmas parties.
Yes.
You know, Wu does.
And parents.
He's our big, man.
He's our big right there.
A parent.
Yeah.
Now if we get Wu and parent.
Now we're, we win it.
Now it's a game.
No, if you're giving me
Woo and Perrin
Which is not too much of a stretch
They're part of our family
Respectfully to the coaches
I know they are much better
Or were much better at one time
Age is really in our factor here
Yeah
You yeah but
I mean these guys were all
We have like two NBA players
Listen if you don't think Mario
Can outrun Mark Fox and Alvin Brooks
The Third on a fast break
And respectfully to those guys
I'm just saying we have a huge youth advantage here.
Use the legs.
I'm guarding Mark Fox.
Use the legs.
Shannon, put me on Mark Fox.
I got him.
You got him.
I got Mark Fox.
I can lock Mark Fox up.
You can get a rebound over Fox.
But Jason Hart?
I mean, that's a dude who wanted, like.
Hard and McLean are our problems.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, I'm here.
I'll be the stretch for.
I'll be the stretch for.
If they want to play, I'm going to stretch for about two hours before his game starts.
I'm going, I'm going to be doing hockey shifts.
In and out
In and out
Who's next?
Let's go to Matt
Matt
Go ahead Matt
Hey guys
Hey I'm out
Burfooted in my garden
Just finished meditating
On this beautiful
Beautiful day
In Highman Kentucky
You always tell me
You're meditating
Matt
But I have a hard time
Believe in you're meditating
Because you're listening
To the show
Do you consider my voice
Like meditation?
Well
I'm doing my breathing
Exercise is why I listen to the show
Well thank you
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah, I do a little grounding.
And Matt, don't worry about none of those people.
You can't be blamed for none of the coaching things.
It's just ridiculous.
But I got two things.
One, since it's almost the World Series,
can you name the teams that haven't won a World Series?
Teams that have not won a World Series.
Boy, this feels like this would be a good trivia question for me tonight at the bar.
Shannon, do you know?
Well, two of them are in the playoffs right now.
Two of them right now.
The Brewers and the Mariners.
The Brewers and the Mariners.
How many are there, Matt?
Five.
Five.
Padres.
Brewers, Mariners, Padres.
Rockies.
Rockies.
All right, so we've got four.
Don't tell us the fifth yet, Matt.
If those are four, did,
has Tampa Bay ever won it?
No, you got it.
We got it all.
Ding, ding, ding.
There you go.
Those are the five.
How about that?
When do we play the hard games?
Yeah.
Wow, that's pretty good.
One more thing.
Yeah, go ahead.
When you was on your trip, did you try to meditate on your safari?
I did not meditate on the safari, but I do sometimes meditate.
That was taught to me when I was struggling, sleeping after I got out of the hospital.
And so when I have times that I'm struggling to sleep, I'll do it.
I've been pretty fortunate here lately with it.
But yes, I did not do it in South Africa.
I had to stay up every night to do that podcast with Drew.
All right.
See you guys.
Appreciate the call.
During that commercial break, you showed us some video of your trip to South Africa.
You talk about how beautiful it is, but to tell you see it, it is spectacular.
It would be really nice to be able to show people, but I didn't have a phone.
So I have to use other people's accounts.
And, you know, I asked a couple of them, I was like, would you like me to, to,
to like can I use some of your videos and pictures and they kind of didn't like the idea of all of
Kentucky following them on social media so that's why but when I do post pictures I just steal
them from their accounts and don't tell them they're beautiful yeah no it was beautiful who's next
let's go to Tyler Tyler go ahead Tyler hey guys I just had a quick question for you
do you think the football team would ever have anything like big blue madness
like at the beginning of the year and if so would anybody even go to it
Yeah, I do think people would go, actually.
I don't, you know, it wouldn't be the worst thing to have a kickoff event of some sort for football.
I don't know what it would be.
I don't even know what you would do exactly.
But yeah, I don't think that Drew would be a bad idea.
If I was a coach trying to, you know, do it mid-August, people are hungry for things to do or something.
I could see it.
They can figure out.
There's enough skill challenges in football.
You could get out there and have quarterback stolen it around.
If you did the intros like Big Blue Madness, that might take a little bit longer over there.
Maybe do it by position group, but it would be just another way to get fans engaged to get the season going,
which is what Big Blue Madness is.
I don't think it's a bad idea at all.
Yeah, 859-28027.
It's Draft Kings.
You go to Draft Kings.
Use my promo code KSR.
Bet five.
If you win, you get up to $200 in bonus bets.
Draft Kings, KSR parley's hit twice this year.
Here's the thing about the KSR parley.
It's becoming very clear.
Drew and I always get it right.
Ryan always gets it wrong.
Shannon's 50-50.
Yeah, I'm one way or the other.
So we're going to have to kick Ryan out of it.
What happened last week?
I wasn't here.
You and I got it right.
You got it right.
No, I was gone.
I was in Denver.
Oh, Mario got it right.
Liam picked him.
Liam picked.
So Liam got it right.
I pushed.
I had three, and I think it was three in the Arkansas game.
Shannon lost, Ryan lost.
And I said I need a layup.
So I picked Oregon to win at home over Indiana.
So Liam's the only one.
One.
Liam's the only one that first.
Yeah.
Yeah, but it was a little weird for me because I had Arkansas minus two and a half and the line changed to three and then I had to just deal with it.
Regardless, it was a push.
Point being, we're kicking you out.
Fair.
I want to win.
A couple weeks ago when you picked a 44.5 point spread, I knew you weren't committed to the pilot.
And that spread covered.
It's just a lazy pick.
Blue Jays Mariners tonight.
Game three.
Mariners won the first two.
they're at home, are they headed to the World Series?
I think so.
Like you said, it's going to Seattle, so yeah, they're in the driver's seat right now.
It's my guy pitching tonight, Castillo?
I think he is.
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure.
If he is, I'm taking the Mariners.
Who you got?
I hate the Blue Jays, so I'm rolling with the Mariners.
No, it's George Kirby, but he's also really good.
Shannon, who you got?
Yeah, Blue Jays, I think get one.
I think tonight's the one they get.
All right, there you go.
859-28027.
We will take a break.
Come back.
Final segment.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Last night, a blown call,
changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are
flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies,
and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves,
their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama,
the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real. From viral moments to historic games,
from buzzer beaters to controversial calls,
we break it down,
give you context,
and ask the questions
everybody wants answered.
Sports Slice brings you closer to the action
with stories told by the people who live them.

your host, and your favorite therapist,
Kear Games.
And in recognition of mental health awareness month,
I'm bringing over a decade,
of my own experience in the mental health field
and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking.
Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person?
because you're afraid.
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

American soccer is about to explode.
The World Cup is coming.
Ramos sending on to Ernie Stewart the chip.
I'm Ty Bramos.
I'm Tom Boe.
On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic.
I'm not worried about Balagan.
I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back.
The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team.
It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals
or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.
Experience it all with us.
Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos
on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca.
And Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers.
is why he got the ball like,
after you go through a training camp
with that I said, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back, it is Kentucky Sports Radio.
859-2-8027.
Text machine is 7-7-7-4-5-254.
We are here, KS Bar and Grill,
Wings Day, all day, dollar wings,
all day, beer specials, etc.
Tribute is tonight.
I want to do two serious things for a second.
First of all, prayers out to John Pelfry's wife, Tracy.
Is that correct?
Not sure.
I think it is.
Tracy Pelfry, who is dealing with cancer.
Pelfry posted about her treatment.
It's stage three, and he's asked for, he's in Tennessee Tech, but as for prayers,
obviously a Kentucky legend.
And do you know her?
I don't know if I've ever met her.
But John, off the court, John Pelfrey's a super nice guy.
I think he's the love out of Paintsville, so I don't know if she's a Kentucky girl also,
but obviously thoughts and prayers with her and her family.
Yeah, he shared the timeline to have a head.
It's going to be a rough one that we don't do that.
But hopefully she gets through on the other side and gets through it best you can.
And then on just a personal level, I want to give prayers to the family of George Oakes,
his son, Tyler, is a friend of mine.
and he
you know I always say that the
UK fans he passed away last week
I just found out yesterday but you
I always talk about UK fans in Louisville
you have to be a hearty bunch to be in Louisville
because you have to deal with Louisville fans all the time
and they're always chirping and during those years
where that happened a lot from 2010
to about 2015
anytime I was going to do something in
in Louisville that was
UK he was there holding L's down
and being a big
Big time, Big Blue faithful in Jefferson County.
He passed away.
Great Kentucky fan, great dude, and my prayers to his family as well.
A regular listener of this show.
So prayers to the Oaks family.
Yeah, those people, they fight the good fight every single day against Louisville fans.
So it's good to hear.
They need guys like him.
And Louisville's coming back.
So we're going to need another generation of Jefferson County frontline, frontline warriors there against the cards.
Who's up next?
Let's go to Justin.
Justin.
Go ahead, Justin.
Hey, how y'all doing?
Doing good.
Not that preseason ranking matters or like I've complained about Kentucky being nice,
but I've seen a list of everybody that votes in the AP poll
and what school they're affiliated with.
And Kentucky don't have anybody that votes that they're affiliated with,
but Duke had like almost 10.
What's the process?
No, that's not right.
Duke had 10?
close to it is that right really i didn't know that i don't know what the process is you have to be part
of the basketball uh riders association of america um no one's ever asked me to be in that as a matter
fact i don't even know how one would do it um so i don't know i mean jerry tippedon used to be
the person that voted in kentucky for many many years he's now retired so i don't really know who
does it i guess no one does it um but it is weird that no one in the state
of Kentucky where basketball is bigger than any other state would be a voter in the AP poll.
Drew, that is a little odd.
Yeah, Jerry, doing it for so long.
That made sense.
That's probably one of those trusted people on their panel.
Now I'm just scrolling through the names quickly.
I don't recognize it really good.
They really have 10 for Duke?
Well, that's not putting the school affiliated with them.
Okay.
Well, I appreciate the call.
I'm actually fine with us being number nine.
I think that's probably about where we should be.
We have so many different new players.
I think the top three of Purdue, Houston, Florida feels right to me.
And then after that, from four on, I think you could just kind of flip a coin.
I'm fine being none.
Yeah, what Drew said yesterday in Kim Palm were number four behind Florida.
Yeah, I think number four in the AP poll is St. John's.
You know, you put Kentucky and St. John's on the court tomorrow.
It's probably almost a pick-em game.
So I think you look at that list from four to about 13 or 14.
I think all those teams are kind of interchangeable, Drew.
Yeah, and it's kind of corny, but we're.
into the number nine thing.
Let's just go ahead and start the year at number nine.
We'll know quickly with these marquee games in the first two weeks.
It'll change.
Win them.
You'll move up.
So let's just be number nine to kick it off.
Yeah.
I mean, Louisville is going to be our first.
We play Nichols State, then Valparaiso, and then Louisville.
That's how the season starts.
I don't like that.
I hate it that the basketball games before the football game.
I just don't like that.
I'm waiting around.
Yeah, I mean, that's the second time you brought it up.
You're not happy.
not happy about that.
Who's up next?
Dave.
Dave, go ahead, Dave.
Hey, this is Dave and happy.
I was two things.
The three things that I think are going to stand the test of time as far as being
memorable about Big Blue Madness was the Trent Noah introduction, his turnaround from the last
three-point shot, and the Colin Chandler dunk.
I mean, let me ask you a question.
In all seriousness, I love you, man.
But you're telling me the three most.
memorable things from Big Blue Madness.
Two of them involved Trent Noah.
One of them's Colin Chan. You're not going to put John Wall
returning on the list.
Well, the
Colin Chandler thing involved
John Wall.
I love you, but you got to put
John Wall on that list if you're going to, I mean,
that's my take.
I went back and watched it three times.
Those were the three things that continue
to stand out.
Okay.
And what's the second thing?
The other thing, the other
thing is this SEC
Network plus baloney.
If you were an ESPN plus subscriber
and you had all those channels
and then Disney's so greedy that they
separate them. Yes.
Into another charge, that's just
over the top. Yeah, it's important to remember.
I'm glad you said that. I appreciate the call.
If you only have ESPN,
if you bought the ESPN
package, so if you bought the
Disney bundle, you do not
have SEC Plus. That hit
that hit us here at the bar Saturday.
So at the bar Saturday, we were trying to show Big Blue Madness, and then we realized we didn't have it because we had the Disney bundle.
SEC Plus is actually different now than ESPN Plus, which means you got to make sure you have it.
And there's going to be a lot of people.
That caller, there's going to be a lot of people who don't realize they don't have it.
And so that's just important to note.
If you buy ESPN Plus, SEC Plus is now a separate thing.
but if you have cable, oddly you'll have it.
As weird as that is.
As I said, we're going to get more and more calls on us with six games coming up on the NTC network.
Cornbreadhemp.com, promo code KSR.
Hey, folks, be watching the news next week because they're going to be voting
on whether or not we can still have cornbread hemp gummies and seltzers.
Your boy Mitch McConnell's trying to take it away.
Call your representative.
There's some Kentucky folks trying to take up for it, including Brett Guthrie and others.
But cornbreadhemp.com, promo code KSR, full spectrum flour,
only hemp gummies, CBD, seltzer, etc.
at cornbread hemp.
I don't know what's wrong.
Mitch McConnell completely flipped.
He's the one that got all that stuff legal,
and now he's trying to flip it right before he leaves office.
What a goober.
Can't be having that.
Somebody should write a book about him.
Thank you folks very much for being here.
We appreciate it.
Tomorrow we are here at the bar Friday at 46 Solution.
We will see you later.
I'll do trivia tonight's been KSR.
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy.
Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

Last night, a blown call changed the game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments
in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories,
their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.
