Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What?

Starting point is 00:03:09 nmLS consumer access dot org welcome back hour number two juggie sports radio here at 46 solutions lexington based technology company if you want to have a nice home entertainment system you're there there's a video up there of shannon walking with larry vaught back in the day on his 50 mile walk. Shannon, you know, that happened right after COVID. It was actually one of the cooler days we've had with KSR.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Is that one of the bigger accomplishments of your life, 50 miles and 24 hours? It was the greatest athletic achievement of the COVID era, without a doubt. Across the board. Oh, yeah. Maybe another one. It was the number one trend across America that day that we were doing it. Some of the stuff I don't even remember. It's like watching another
Starting point is 00:03:58 person on the screen right now. I don't even remember a lot of this stuff. Yeah, we, you walked, we created a 25-mile path for you, and you did it twice. Is that right? That's right. Is that what you did? 50 miles and 15 and a half hours. This was towards the end, because that's us in the back there doing the radio show, me
Starting point is 00:04:14 and Drew. So this was, like, kind of down the home stretch. The other thing that stuck out to me was how long Drew's beard was during COVID. He had this long, like, almost like Forrest's gut when he went on his walk, he had that long beard. What was the hardest point of that 50 miles? Was there ever a moment at me you thought you were going to quit? No, because I had to prove you wrong.
Starting point is 00:04:31 But the last 10 miles were tougher than the first 40 before them. So the first 40, I kind of cruised through it. It started to get hot towards the end, too. It's starting to get hot. But you guys being there actually helped and everybody else being there. If I was just out there by myself, I don't know if I would have finished it. Well, that was awesome. And you had a handful of people do it with you, right?
Starting point is 00:04:50 Yes, those guys that you see there. Did they do all of it? There was like three or four guys that did. But they were marathon guys that had ran the Boston Marathon and other marathons across the country. They actually said it's harder to walk that far than it is to run just because of the duration, you know, that you're out there for 15 and a half hours. And that was also nice. The amount of people on the street that would talk to you and honk and all. It was all night.
Starting point is 00:05:13 It wasn't just during the day. There were people out all hours of the night. And it just, you know, giving me water and encouragement. Really cool, really cool thing. Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods should last a lifetime. They make everything from bags, belts, wallets, and much more. And the best part they're doing it right here in Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:05:29 It is Clayton and Kroom.com, C-R-U-M-E.com, or visit their flagship store in Louisville, 216, South Shelby Street, located in New Loo. Quality leather goods built to last at Clayton and Kroom. All right, let's talk about a couple of things here. First of all, Reed Shepard last night, in an exhibition game, had 29 points for the Houston Rockets as the starting point guard. You know, he's going to get a chance to start, at least probably a few games early, and then we'll see if he's able to hang on. he's going to play no matter what but he's got a chance to be a starter on a contending team so you had to like seeing reed shepherd play well last night obviously the rockets believed in him they didn't want to trade him in the kevin durant trade they wanted to keep him and now and then after the injury he's going to he's needed he's their guy i am so excited to see what he can do this year for the rockets yeah it's his job if he wants that they tried uh one of the thompson twins at point he's not really a point so if reed can just answer the bell that's his spot and they're a title contender i mean you could have reed shepherd passing to kevin durer in like an NBA finals. Yeah, it's kind of amazing. Somebody should have told me, by the way,
Starting point is 00:06:33 that should have been a little more fit at this stage of my life. We were trying to get you to walk with this, you know? Maybe you should have been the one out there during the 50-mile walk instead of me. Sometimes I look at the various weight fluctuations and go, man, somebody should have said something to me.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Now, we found out, Ryan, how the governor of Illinois made his $1.4 million gambling. What was it? He says blackjack. Blackjack. He went on a, he went out to a casino trip. He said, we started getting hot, and I felt like we would just keep going, and he said,
Starting point is 00:07:04 then I walked away with $1.4 million. He even said he had a chance to, like, put half of it on the line to go for $2 million, and he just walked away. But $1.4 million from a Blackjack trip, and he has from the casino the record that he did. That is a pretty amazing win, isn't it? It is. I mean, it's, I can believe Blackjack. Let's say that, even though that's almost impossible, to do. That is your best size of the casino. If he had said sports betting, I would have said launched the investigation right now because that doesn't happen. But I guess I'll pat him
Starting point is 00:07:36 on the back on blackjack. That can happen. So here's my question. Leave politics aside. You find out you have a governor that is betting and winning $1.4 million in blackjack. Shannon make you feel better
Starting point is 00:07:51 or worse about him? A lot better. I don't want to... But I mean, it's just luck. Sure. But I mean, Why would you not want them to have luck? You want an unlucky? Is there a part of you that's going, I don't know if I want someone who puts that much money on the table? His own money, though, he can do whatever he wants with it. It doesn't bother me.
Starting point is 00:08:08 As long as it's not like the state's money. Yeah, well, if he's done the state's money. I have a little problem with that. He probably goes to prison if he does the state's money. Yeah, but Blackjack is pretty impressive. You're not betting $5 a hand winning that kind of money. All right, what about you? I don't have a problem with it, but I'm trying to be honest.
Starting point is 00:08:23 If I found out he lost $1.4 million gambling in Blackjack, I probably would have a problem with. Really? So that's interesting. So I can see this psychologically, him winning, even though you know this is a coin flip game. Yeah. Him winning the coin flip makes you less worried than if he loses the coin flip. And I don't know why, but yes, that's the way it feels to me. I have a bad fit. If he goes out and gambles and loses $1.4 million, how much is he losing on a regular base that we don't know about?
Starting point is 00:08:51 Okay. So you're worried like it shows the signs of a problem. Yeah. There's a little strategy involved. Maybe he knows that. Maybe he's counting cards, you know? Maybe he's just shows he's intelligent. Okay, all right.
Starting point is 00:09:02 I got on a good heater. I mean, he probably wasn't betting a million. You're just winning several in a row to get to a million. So on the weather thing, since Ryan just made weather up, the actual forecast is that it should be okay during the game, not beautiful, but okay. And then a massive storm is supposed to start about 1 a.m. So some people may get it on their drive home from the game, but it's supposed to be up to $40. a 45-mile-an-hour wins.
Starting point is 00:09:29 The other guy just guess anyway, man. It's a coin. It's going to rain. It might rain. Oh, there's clouds. Oh, might rain. If it were 40-mile-in-hour wins and we're going to have a ground game offensively, I mean, I would think that if you're trying to say, who does that benefit,
Starting point is 00:09:43 it would benefit Kentucky. I think a little bit more than Texas. I actually think having a mucky game might be good for Kentucky if you were to get it. Don't you? Drew can't be convinced. There's nothing that's going to make you off. They're optimistic about this. Their defensive line and linebackers are so good.
Starting point is 00:10:00 So if it starts raining, they're just going to, well, let's pack the box and Bowley has to throw deep. And do we want that in the rain? Yeah. Well, I mean, that's a fair point. Because they are elite on the defensive line. All right, let's talk about basketball for a second. Blue White game.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Mark Pope says it's not going to be a full scrimmage. So it's not going to be like in the old days where he played 40 minutes of blue and white. He's going to work on things. They will have some scrimmage. There's actually a few tickets still left to get to see a game in Memorial. I would say, forget about this blue white. If you've not been to the new Memorial Coliseum, it's really, really nice. And you can see it and watch the game.
Starting point is 00:10:33 You'll never get this close. Plus, they'll do autographs and stuff they always do for these games. What do you want to see tonight? You're going to watch it? What do you want to see? It's on SEC Plus. You know, last year I went when it was at Historic Memorial Coliseum, and that was the first time I thought, oh, my, Colin Chandler is a lot better than I think we all thought.
Starting point is 00:10:50 So I hope there's a moment with somebody tonight. Somebody like, hey, what we said out with Otega even last year. Yeah. I hope there's a moment tonight we all look and like, hey, this guy can play, man. He's much better than we thought. That was my takeaway last year. My takeaway last year is Colin Chandler, who had kind of just been like a throw-away, not a throw-away, but like not a person I thought was going to matter last year.
Starting point is 00:11:09 I remember he had a dunk, a couple dunks where you're like, oh, my goodness. This kid's got athleticism. It would be interesting to see, Drew, if tonight you get some of that, Braden Hawthorne, or something that gives you something like that. Yeah, there's a lot of guys. I feel like I already know what they're going to be. So I'm watching Cam Williams, probably a little more Moreno to see if he's really pushing those guys for minutes.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Hawthorne, he's fun to watch. He's just so skinny. I don't think we're going to see him this year. But any guy that we're still questioning how many minutes they'll really get, that's who I'm watching. Cam Williams is the one I'd say I'm keeping an eye on the most because he's the one I'm just the most uncertain about.
Starting point is 00:11:40 I also will be interested to see, Shannon, if they continue what they did at Fan Fest, I was talking to a lady about Fan Fest last weekend. You know, that event came out of nowhere. Like, they just kind of threw it together. They did a great job. And they did a great job. They threw it together.
Starting point is 00:11:56 They created this fan experience. I mean, you know, there was apparently some complaints about the lines for the autographs. It's free. I mean, it's free. So at some point, like, you've got to understand you might not all be able to get an autograph. I'll be interested to see at this event if they do, I think they'll do something like that again. I do. I think they'll – I am really impressed with how – not just Pope, but the whole basketball side is starting to see the reach out to fans what matters.
Starting point is 00:12:22 I mean, I will tell you it didn't work out today. But we talked about having something really cool happen here today, and I'm not going to say what it was, because we'll do it in another remote sometime down the road. But like it almost happened, and I just like that they consider that. Yeah, and I would say to any fan that was in line that didn't get the chance to get a picture and autograph, there will be plenty of opportunities in the future. But as far as what I would like to see, let me just tell you, first of all, what I don't want to see, something that could happen that we could blame Annabelle the doll on.
Starting point is 00:12:49 So I don't want any of that stuff to happen. Or Adam Sandler. Or Adam Sandler. What I do want to see is the three-point short. shooting from this team because once again Mark Popas doubled down on wanting to have 30 three point attempts per game he got the 25 last year I want to see how good of a three point shooting team this is I was a little worried about that rhyme but I'm not so much anymore I'm worried a little bit about it from I've talked about the Diabate position but just the average guy on the team I think we're
Starting point is 00:13:17 going to be able to shoot really well yeah I don't know if we've got a guy that maybe as good as we had like with braya last year you may not have a guy like braya who like when he shot it you knew it was in. Yeah. We're going to have a lot more guys. I think they can fill it up from the outside. Trin Noah could be that actually. I mean, he might be a guy that kind of you know what's in when he shoots it. Yeah. Last year, we saw many times the offense, we'd get kind of locked up and Bray would just pull. You know, he would just shoot. I think this year with low running the show, he's more of a get in the lane and kick it out type of guy. It's hard with these videos. Like, I don't know who put this together, but this is like a history of our lives
Starting point is 00:13:55 playing here. This is Shannon singing in Vegas. Yeah, playing the piano. Playing the piano singing about me. The hangover song. From the hangover. Yeah. That was that was the monk fox year. That was 2016. Yep. And we had we had the penthouse suite that trip. That was awesome. That was an awesome trip. Who's up next? What else they have on file here? Got Dennis up next. Dennis. Go ahead, Dennis. I hear you say earlier that Texas wasn't that good and you might be able to score on you I mean Texas is objectively so far this year has not been that good I mean they've been they lost it to Florida they got didn't score against Ohio State now are they better than us
Starting point is 00:14:43 of course they are better than us should they crush us yes they should crush us but if you had told me when the season started we're playing in Texas, I would have told you Texas is going to be a 24-point favorite. It's 13 and a half. And yes, Kentucky, if Kentucky was a decent Kentucky team, this would be a game that they would look at and say we have a shot. Now, we're not decent, so we don't have a shot. But no, do I think Texas is great?
Starting point is 00:15:10 No, they're going to finish probably with four or five losses this year. I agree with that. But, I mean, their defense, if it's not the best defense as college football, it's one of the defense. Okay. I mean, I can't argue with that. Our offense is painful. Watch.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Okay. I'm not arguing with any of that. But your frustration with me was me saying that I don't think Texas is all that good. And so far this year, they have not been all that good. And I tell you, isn't it odd now? Indiana is becoming a football school. They signed what? Signated.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Yes, they've got $11 million a year. Yeah. Well, I want to talk about that. I'm going to talk about that next segment because I think that deal is interesting for a variety of reasons. But also, here's a video of Alan Cutler chasing Billy Gillespie on the screen as well. One of the best videos ever. I appreciate the call. I mean, this really is.
Starting point is 00:16:08 All right moment in UK sports history. There we go. Billy Gillespie running away from Alan Cutler. Look at Alan. And that's Alan when he cut his hair. I think he knew he was going to have a moment. That's a sprint. That is so awkward.
Starting point is 00:16:23 They are sprinting through offices together. I will remind people, it is hard, Ryan. Let's try to push the door on them. Look at this. Ryan, you were working. You and I were doing this at that time. I will remind you, this day is probably the craziest day in UK sports since I've been doing it. Billy Gillespie, well, first of all, I get called from Louisville.
Starting point is 00:16:47 I'm still a practicing lawyer at the time. Okay. I get a call from UK saying, you're going to want to be in the building today. So I drive, I live in Louisville at the time, I drive from Louisville, get here, then you start to hear Billy Gillespie's going to be fired. But then they're like, we can't find him to fire him. I mean, you're laughing.
Starting point is 00:17:07 This happened. They sent Mitch Barnhart and Eli Capoluto were in a, or was it, no, Dr. Todd. Mitch Barnhart and Dr. Todd were driving around Lexington trying to find him to fire him. to fire him because he got the idea, well, if I get in my car and they can't find me, they can't fire me. Bill and Gillespie was literally driving around New Circle Road just to play hide and seek so nobody could find you. I used to do this when I was a kid. When I did something I knew I was going to get in trouble, I knew my parents were coming home, I would try to hide. So then they would forget about it.
Starting point is 00:17:38 So then finally they get him to agree to come to the building and then Alan Cutler's waiting out there. So he's not been fired when you see this right here. Correct. And he walks in the door and Alan's chasing him going, are you getting fired? And he's following him. And then you remember there were some rumors that Billy Donovan was coming on a plane to take the job in the afternoon. You were there. That was wild.
Starting point is 00:18:02 All those rumors about Donovan. Yeah, he's already enrolled his kids at Lexington Catholic High School. They've already bought a horse farm out by Champions Golf Course. And he's going to be here this afternoon. It was just crazy. My favorite line, though, about when Cutler is chasing Billy Glessby down the hallway, Billy says, you're really going to run with me, Alan? and Alan says, I can run with you all day.
Starting point is 00:18:22 And WKYT, it was a big moment for KSR. So this is, remember, we're talking 2009. We were just a blog. WKYT put our blog live on the air. Put it on the air and said, this is where the most updated information is. And then while we were live on the air, Shannon, our site crashed because everybody went on it.
Starting point is 00:18:43 Of course. Those of you have been a while. I remember our site used to crash all the time. Our site crashed. When you think about the most ridiculous moments in Kentucky sports history, that has to be number one. That's number one. The fact that he was running down a hall being chased by a reporter.
Starting point is 00:18:58 We'll take a break. Be right back here, 46 Solutions. This is gay ESO. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,

Starting point is 00:21:03 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, Brett, my mama want you to weigh better. What?
Starting point is 00:21:21 Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Cliverts show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, I'm Jared Adano. You might know me as that loud guy who yells out, help on the internet. Help! Somebody! Please! But there's so much more to me than that.
Starting point is 00:21:42 I'm an actor. I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the hell. helper myself. And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice.

If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Starting point is 00:22:58 Keenland, UK, Texas, blue-white, parents' weekends, Scarefest, Annabelle, Adam Sandler, all right here. Got some folks over here, drove in from Minnesota, had it planned, you know, long ago. Go to the blue-white game tonight, football game tomorrow night, so they made the long trip for Minnesota to be here. Yeah, I would say this is, this will be probably the most crowded weekend of the year in Lexington. Next week is big, too, but I think when you throw in, parents weekend with the two games.
Starting point is 00:23:26 Drew, this is probably the most crowded this city will be. Yeah, Tennessee is always a big one. But when the schedule came out, Texas was one. They've never been here. First time, well, I guess I had last year with them in the SEC, but they're just a little more excitement seeing the Longhorns. We got some Donato's pizza here for people. Also, KS. Bar, so the game tomorrow's at 7.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Our pregame show will be at 3. I love to have you come out either today this afternoon tonight or tomorrow. If you come out tonight, the Louisville game, Louisville plays Miami in football tonight, so we will be a official Miami Hurricanes Bar tonight if you want to come and say, go Keynes against the, we'll throw up the U tonight against Louisville. That's right. Get out there to KS. Bar, get some cheese logs, and hopefully watch Miami destroy Louisville.
Starting point is 00:24:15 We just realized, by the way, in the month of September, we, for the first time, sold more burgers than wings. Well, the burgers are really, really good. Our new smash burgers are awesome. That's never been true. I'll tell you a quick, funny story about the trivia. So one of my questions on the trivia is, what are the nine items on the bar at the bar that have been sold the most? Okay, food or drink?
Starting point is 00:24:36 Number one thing that's been sold the most is the Great American Burger. Second is like Mickelope Ultra. But there was a team name that was called, We're just here for the Tater Cags. Oh, that's the name of their team. They are good. When it came time to that question, you know what they didn't guess? No. They said we are here for the tater kegs, and then they didn't qualify for the finals by one point.
Starting point is 00:25:01 They just put the name of their team as the food they would have made it, and then they did not. They had to have been drunk. There's no other excuse. I thought that was ridiculous. Let's talk about Indiana's Kurt Signetti. He signs a deal through 2033, so I don't know. know how many years that is, but it's a lot. Eight, nine years.
Starting point is 00:25:22 $11.8 million a year. It'll make him the third highest paid coaching college football and fully guaranteed total of $93 million. Now, I had predicted that because of James Franklin and a lot of these contracts, including Mark Stoops, teams would not want to sign on to have to pay all that money and be guaranteed. Well, I was wrong because Indiana did it two days. later for that.
Starting point is 00:25:52 I know he's a great coach. I get it. But nobody signs these deals and doesn't think they're going to work or you wouldn't sign them. Do you think they'll ever regret that? Or do you think he's so good, he'll be good forever? I think he's done things for Indiana football. I don't think it could ever be done. And if you're Indiana, it's probably a good move because he would leave for
Starting point is 00:26:14 Florida or Penn State or Auburn or maybe one of these other jobs that's going to open. up are already open. So I think they had to lock him up now to keep him from leaving Bloomington. People said the same thing about Mark Stoops. He did things here that we thought could never be done. We never thought that he could get to 10 wins. Indiana football has been good for two years. Do you really believe that Indiana football in five, six years is still going to be a top 10 team? Well, what's going to happen when they suck again and you're stuck with a guy with a $93 million dollar bio? I mean, that's the question.
Starting point is 00:26:43 I mean, that is exactly the question. I understand why they do it, Drew. But wouldn't it be funny if like when Stoop signed his deal and then lost to Vanderbilt, wouldn't it be funny if Indiana like lost this week? Right after doing it. He's kind of unique, though, in that he's like a new hot name, but he's in his mid-60s. So no matter what, he doesn't have that much left. That's a good point. Is he going to coach when he's 80?
Starting point is 00:27:10 So they're probably seeing a short window no matter what. He's 64. Yeah. I mean, you know, when Stoop's got the extension, he's what, 10 to 12 years younger than So it's kind of a unique spot. He put that video out about they love it there. And, you know, if you're 64 and you just got there and they're paying you so, well, maybe he would stay around. But I think he would be an exception.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Yeah, it's just interesting because I kind of thought those contracts were a thing of the past. I just kind of thought they're not going to do that unless you're Nick Sabin. They're just not going to do it. Well, turns out they are going to do it and continue to do it. Who's up next? Got Chuck up next. Chuck. Go ahead, Chuck.
Starting point is 00:27:46 Good morning. Enjoying the show. Thank you. had a thought about the basketball players money. I got a friend in the horse business. He's been earning all his life. He's got a saying, it's hard to make money with cheap horses.
Starting point is 00:28:00 And I think that applies to all our sports. Yeah, I think that's a fair point. And the next question is, what do you do with it? And, you know, you've got a million-dollar horses that never race. In fact, the most expensive yearling ever sold never race. and it was over $10 million. So I'll just leave that where it is, but I expect Pope to overachieve whatever.
Starting point is 00:28:30 I think he's going to, I think, I appreciate the call. If you hire Pope, you think Pope's good, he's never had the best roster anywhere he's ever been, including last year. Now you try to get him closer and closer to have in the best roster. I love seeing some clips of these old games. Me too. They just show Kentucky, West Virginia, 2015,
Starting point is 00:28:48 still another one of my favorite basketball moments. Standing there, the West Virginia players are like, we're going to beat them. And then Kentucky comes out for their practice, and I look at Willie Colley Stein, and I say, did you hear what? Do you hear what they said? And he was like, what they say? And I said, they were going to beat you all. And he went, no, they didn't.
Starting point is 00:29:07 And then he looked at the rest guys. He goes, say that again. And I said, they're going to beat you all. I just knew at that moment it was going to be bad for West Virginia. And if you remember, we won by like 40. Mega had zero. His name was Dexter Miles. Dexter Miles.
Starting point is 00:29:20 That's right. We'll take a break. Be right back. Let's see us Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back here, Kentucky Sports Radio. 46 Solutions. Lexington-based technology, audio, video, integration. Glad to be here.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Great crowd this morning. It's coming out on a Friday on a beautiful day. Give a shout out from one of our listeners who drew. It heard us back when we used to do podcast in the lobby of the Hyatt. Tyler and prayers to his daughter Lila as well. Tyler's dad is here with us. Nice to see you. I saw we've got people here, like you said, from Minnesota who've made the drive.
Starting point is 00:30:00 So great crowd here, and we'll be in Lexington again next week before the Purdue game. I have the scoop on the torn Achilles. Okay, all right, hang on just a second. First of all, he didn't warn me. He didn't, Mario, he didn't warn me about this during the break. Now, we know, Shannon, we know what his scoop. have been likely recently and this is a very serious scoop do you feel confident I mean are we is this a breaking news scoop oh big time all right first of all before we do it here's the video of
Starting point is 00:30:30 ryan getting thrown down at the derby oh they took it away oh they already showed it all right let's do some breaking news here then all right ryan lemon this is up to you somebody did get hurt. It was not a UK basketball player. It was somebody in the UK's like education side, like a different department. What? Like a professor?
Starting point is 00:30:56 Yeah, like Was it Eli Capoludo? Your breaking news is that a UK education professor got hurt? Some other department. It had nothing to do with basketball or the basketball department. No, the basketball staff. It's a different department. And he got hurt. Got hurt.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Okay. That's it. Where was the game? That's her I don't know. So this is not a very full news report. No. I can work on that in the next segment. But you are saying we can exhale on it being a UK player. All our UK guys are fine. Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:31:28 All right, well, you find this in the next segment because we want to make sure we think about the person that it happened to. Where was the game? Okay. And where do they really work? Gotcha. All right. We'll see how that goes. Let me send my source of text as we speak.
Starting point is 00:31:42 859, 2807. Drew, what do you think about John Caliperi saying he made a pronouncement at Media Day? If one of his players goes in the portal ever, they're off the team. He said, I will not engage in transactions with players. But he does say, if you go in the portal, then that means you want money. You can't come back. That hasn't always been his policy. He doesn't want transactional.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Hold on, I was watching. Transformational. Transformational, yeah. It was pure coincidence. I sat down to watch media days the other day, and when I turned on my TV, they were like, now here's John Caliperi, and I watched everything he had to say. Did you know he did the John Wall dance during that press conference? No, I did not.
Starting point is 00:32:31 He did. Jack Pilgrim asked him about Wall coming back to Big Blue Madness, and Cal with the Arkansas logo behind him. What do you think about the idea about a policy of if you have a player and he goes in the portal, Shannon, by? Like, clearly the fact you're thinking about it means get out. I mean, I think a lot of players after the season are going to want to look around and see what their options are, and I don't think that's going to bold well for them.
Starting point is 00:32:55 I think there's going to be a lot of players that want to go into the portal and see what else is out there, and they're going to leave. But isn't he being a hypocrite? A dude did this to him? I mean, first of all, a dude did this to him, but also, oh, I don't know, John, you did it all the time. Yeah. You went and looked in the portal all the time.
Starting point is 00:33:12 You went and looked at UCLA. Yeah. You went and looked at the Cleveland Cavs. You went to Portault. This continues a theme you've heard me say for years of coaches are absolute hypocrites. They want to be able to do something. And then when the player does it, they're selfish and transactional. You don't think when you went to UCLA and got a job offer and came back and forced Mitch Barnhart to give you a lifetime contract, you don't think that was.
Starting point is 00:33:42 transactional? Sure it was. I mean, stop it. It's not just, Cal. 90% of coaches say something like this, and they are all completely full of it. Well, this is what I thought when Todd Golden was kind of
Starting point is 00:33:56 being bitter about Aberdeen. Did you not leave San Francisco? Yes. And guess what? If Florida were to just pay Golden, like $6 million, and along came Kentucky or whatever to give $11, guess what? My man's in the car, moving his family to Lexington.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Like, when I saw Cal say that, Cal has always been really good about, like, understanding players first, all that stuff. But it was the first time I was like, you're signing like an old man with this transactional stuff. Dude, you've been doing that, Ryan, your whole career. It seemed like every summer. It was another job or an NBA job or a college who was trying to come after Cal. It was like a ritual we did. Went through every single summer when he was here. Which is fine, by the way.
Starting point is 00:34:38 But then you can't complain when the player does the same thing. Right. We're very glad Otega, he kind of looked around in the transfer portal a little bit. He came back. We're very thankful, guys, do come back like that. Yeah, I'm good with it. Maybe because I'm at a school that can actually win these bidding auctions. But who's up next?
Starting point is 00:34:58 Mark is up next. Mark, go ahead, Mark. Hey, what's going on, Matt? Not much. I'm looking at Ryan with his source asking, he's not getting a response on his questions. I wonder if his source is turning him off. But go ahead. Hey, two things real quick.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Hey, first, why would we worry about J.B. Prisker if he lost $1.4 million? That's the equivalent of a man that makes $100,000 losing $35. I mean, you're probably right. You're probably right. But, Ryan, even though it's not, there's just something about it. Losing would make it worse for you, even though he's a billionaire. It does to me.
Starting point is 00:35:38 I don't know. I just feel like it's a little recklessness on his part of something. his gamblers to win. When? You win? I think I'm okay with it. You're losing? I mean, that tells me you're a loser like me
Starting point is 00:35:46 and you lose all the time. And you don't want him to be in government. Wait a minute. A loser like you, then that would seem like somebody you could relate to. Yeah, but I have yet to win on draft kings. I have yet to win at Keenland. I have yet to win a poker. No, I'm not doing it.
Starting point is 00:36:00 You're good at catching picks, though. I do know that. Go ahead, sir. Hey, second thing real quick. Second thing real quick. Hey, I think right now, UK is in a real tough position. regards to football. You've got to go down one or two lanes. You go down with a proven guy who's probably one at a lower level, kind of like coach Cignetti. Honestly, if you give me
Starting point is 00:36:21 equal rosters for anybody across the country and let him coach the same team as the other thing, I'm going to take him every time. The guy's a horrible coach. He's always been a hell of a coach. The other thing is, so the only person I see that kind of falls down that line, and I think it will help us is John Summer. I wouldn't look at a Will Stein. Will Stein, you may score a few more points, but that flashy offense last week, the Willstein had went against Kurt Signetti last week. No, you're right. I mean, but that's one game. Three or four years from now Will Stite will be gone.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Yeah, but that's one game. I mean, that's one game. And when you say three or four years, when you say three or four years Willstine be gone, people would have said that about Signetti, right? And now it might just be a different age. I mean, and I appreciate the call. In the age of Rev's share, you might be able to keep your coaches. I don't know if you're willing to pay them.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Here's what I would do, Drew, if we end up higher than a coach. It used to be the case even four years ago that I think you would take the coach with the best resume, et cetera. It's a new age. We do not know what sports, I mean, if you went to that Wendell Ford panel Friday, the people who are at the forefront of deciding this stuff, they don't even know what it's going to look like next year. Like the common theme of everybody on the panel was, we don't know what this is going to look like next year. I, if I was interviewing people in the next month or two months for this job, I would sit there and say, who is smart?
Starting point is 00:37:47 Who is the kind of person that can help navigate this? The football needs to matter, but you need a creative person. And Signetti was clearly that. It doesn't have to be an age person. It doesn't have to be a young person. But I'd be looking for smart. For me, the next coach better be ready because this is just as much a business now as it is, football and you need somebody who can navigate both.
Starting point is 00:38:11 That's why Mark Pope's so perfect. Mark Pope is really smart. He's also a good basketball coach, but he's really smart. We need somebody like that on football too. And I would want to fill in the interview that they're embracing the chaos now, not complaining about it. Yes, totally agree. Like to use a Someraw's example, his star quarterback last year left and went to Duke,
Starting point is 00:38:29 he was celebrating him. They played Duke, and at midfield, they're hugging and miss you. He knows that this is how it works. It's hard to keep guys. He went and got another one. He's just doing fine. he's embracing the portal in this new age and a lot of guys are running from it.
Starting point is 00:38:41 I would ask what, I'd ask the first question, Shannon, what do you think about the future of college football? And if he starts complaining, then I don't want. I don't want him because, like, complaints aren't going to get you anywhere. And as much as you may not like the state of what it is, it's not going back to the old way. This is what it is. So you might as well embrace it.
Starting point is 00:38:59 And there are guys out there that love this. They want to get in it. They want to be a part of this. I mean, remember what Mark said at Media Day? He said this is the most exciting time. to coach college basketball ever because of the unknown. Now, you might disagree with that, but that's who you want in charge during this time, Ryan, is somebody who believes that.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Yeah, and that can adapt and adjust as the game adjust itself. Cal, I thought, was really good at that at the beginning, kind of staying ahead of the curve. But then the curve went somewhere he didn't want to, and he stopped. That's exactly right. And that's the problem. When was the last time you really looked at your skin? With Kentucky Skin Cancer Center, I want you to know that when it comes to skins cancer, it can be easy to miss.
Starting point is 00:39:35 I went and had my stuff checked. and, you know, I had something taken off. There was another one that people said, where we're going to watch this one, et cetera. And then when you get it taken off, like you had it, like, frozen, and now it's already gone. Like, this was like a spot.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I had our head for a long time. Now it's completely gone. You can get that done at the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center. Offs is in Owensboro, Bowling Green, Glasgow, Franklin, and what's the small town? Newhleburg County. Yeah, but that's the county. What's the town?
Starting point is 00:39:59 Nebo. That's not in Meenberg County. And that's not, that's never been said that as part of this. Do anybody know? Anybody listen? Powderling. Yes. That's why.
Starting point is 00:40:10 When you work for somebody, we work with somebody for 17 years, they get it. That's right. It's 270842, 1999. It's the Kentucky Skin Cancer Center, Kentucky Skin Cancer Center.com. I gave a really complimentary interview about Drew. Oh, thank you. Just the other day. We've gotten picked for this award that I can't say yet that's going to come out here in about a couple weeks.
Starting point is 00:40:34 And they asked me about Drew, they said, have you worked together so long? And I was like, he's the only person that could stand me that entire period of time. That's what I tell people too. Exactly. We'll take a break. Come back. Final segment.

Starting point is 00:44:19 It is final segment here of Kentucky Sports Radio 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-5254 here at 46 Solutions. Thank you very much to 46 Solutions for having us here. yesterday on the show I noted that Ryan was not here and he had to deal with something and Ryan wanted
Starting point is 00:44:41 to say a little something about what he was doing yesterday and I wanted to give you a chance to do that Yeah I appreciate because yesterday was a really tough day for my family and me as my son got sentenced for being involved in a shooting for like four and a half years ago
Starting point is 00:44:55 he was sentenced to 15 years and you know him and the other guy Teal they both deserve to be punished They should be punished But now I think, you know, I hope we can all like hope and pray for that little boy who's Malachi Roberts, who's now 10 years old, found out yesterday he goes to a special school for the blind. He's learned how to ride a bike. He jumps off diving boards into swimming pools. I mean, the kid is doing fantastic.
Starting point is 00:45:19 So his mom Casey's a great mother. So, you know, I just hope someday I can meet him and tell him how sorry we are and, you know. Right. Listen, we love you. You've been a wonderful. first of all, that was nice of you to say. You've been a wonderful father, and I know how difficult this has been for your family,
Starting point is 00:45:39 and I want to say to a lot of the folks who listen, many people have offered support. Please pray for that young man and the kid, and also, you know, it's a tough thing as a father. I'm sure to have to sit there and watch your son be sent in yesterday, but I just want you to know how much we all are with you, I've watched you over these four and a half years and what that's been like for you. And hopefully this gives a little bit of closure as well.
Starting point is 00:46:06 I appreciate it. And like I said, I hope I can meet him someday and just tell him I'm sorry. Just pray for him. Love you, man. 859-280-2287. We're going to switch gears, which is for tonight. We got Draft Kings. You can go to DK.com, get the app.
Starting point is 00:46:27 Use my phone code KSR. Go to Draft Kings. We'll have a KSR part. Let's first do Louisville and Miami tonight. Miami's an 11-a-half-point favorite. The Keynes have to win, Shannon. I have to. I think Miami wins, but I think Louisville covers the point spread.
Starting point is 00:46:43 So I would take a little. I actually kind of agree with you on that. I think Louisville covers Miami wins. I agree. I bet against Louisville with Virginia a couple weeks ago. I'm not going to do it again. Miami Louisville. I got Miami and rolling.
Starting point is 00:46:54 I think Miami's really, really good. All right. Let's do our KSR. Parlay. Rick is going to replace Ryan. Ryan is 0. Well, no, he hit it once when we won. Twice.
Starting point is 00:47:06 But since then, it's been an absolute disaster. So Rick is going to replace. Rick, I'm going to let you go first since you get to be part of it. What would you like? Okay. I'm picking LSU versus. Have you done any research, by the way? A little bit here.
Starting point is 00:47:20 I don't know how good it is or not. Okay, go for it. LSU and Vandy for tomorrow. I'm saying the LSU over Vandy, 35 to 28. All right, so you're going to take LSU to cover Well, they're actually Vandy's a favorite by one in a house Let me throw in something that Billy just sent me
Starting point is 00:47:38 Vanderbilt has not been favored against an SEC opponent since 1978 That can't be true Against any SEC Any SEC opponent 177 SEC games later Vanderbilt's finally a favorite And it's LSU Yes
Starting point is 00:47:53 Wow I'm with you Rick To me this is the lock of the century Vandy Vandy's not being outshed That was going to be my pick actually Well you don't get to build Okay. So you pick so I can scramble. So LSU, I'll pick. I'll also take a noon game as well.
Starting point is 00:48:07 I'm taking another team that's a one and a half point underdog. I'm going to take Georgia Tech to win at Duke. Duke has no home field advantage whatsoever. And the rambling wreck's been playing well. So I'll take Georgia Tech. So we got Georgia Tech and LSU both to cover. Drew Franklin, what do you got? I am taking a road favorite, which I don't normally do,
Starting point is 00:48:28 but Texas Tech is at Arizona State. Arizona State lost by 30 last weekend. Texas Tech is top five in offense and defense. They're seven-point favorite, so I'll take Texas Tech covering a touchdown at Arizona. So you're taking them to cover? Well, if it's an option, I'll take them to win, but we're doing spreads.
Starting point is 00:48:46 So I'll take them to cover. All right, so you got Texas Tech. We've got, I'll tell you what, you and I will just pick LSU and Georgia Tech just to win because we'll get better odds with that. Do you good with that? Oh, okay. Well, I mean, I had another pick, but that's fine.
Starting point is 00:48:59 Oh, I'm sorry, me and Rick. Yeah. What would you look? Okay, so I had to scramble and pick it up. Last week I picked Oklahoma. It was a bad pick. This week I'm picking against them. I'm going to take South Carolina plus four and a half at home against Oklahoma.
Starting point is 00:49:12 South Carolina plus four and a half. All right. So for our spread is me and Rick. We picked Georgia Tech and LSU to win outright. Drew picks Texas Tech to cover, and Shannon picks South Carolina to cover the four and a half. So there you go. All right. Let's talk about the cats.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Texas. Right now, Texas is a 13-and-a-half-point favorite. Ryan, give me some positivity. Give me something that says we have a shot tomorrow night at 7 o'clock. That it might rain a whole lot, storm. And maybe that might help us slop in a couple touchdowns on the goal line. Slop in a couple touchdowns. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:51 Okay. In the slop and the mess and the mud. That's my positivity, I think, for tomorrow. Okay. Well, let me give me. By the way, today, quickly, tell people about the lunch thing they can do. As soon as we're done here, we're all going across the street to White Castle on Redding Road. It's a benefit for the Ness.
Starting point is 00:50:06 The Ness is a great facility organization that helps battered women, women going through addiction problems, and everything you order you can round up, and all that extra money goes to help the Ness. So we're all going straight from here. Not all. I have a meeting. A couple of us are going straight from here. I'll be there. Shannon's going, Billy's going. I think Mario's going, maybe.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Yes. Mario, Billy, Shannon, and Rhine. but you go just across the street over there to White Castle, have lunch with them, and the money goes to the nest. So that's very nice. Thank you. Unless you don't want him to eat lunch by himself, I don't think. That's right.
Starting point is 00:50:41 Give me, so that's it, the White Castle on Redding Road. All right, Shannon, score an MVP. What? Reynolds, Reynolds, sorry, I didn't mean. Reynolds Road, Reynolds. There we yelled at it. Okay. Thank you for being a good.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Advertiser. All right, Shannon, scoring MVP. I think Cats lose 2814. Cutter Bowley is my MVP. All right. Cats lose 3113. But to be positive, you ask Ryan, Arch maybe, he might not be him.
Starting point is 00:51:08 And at home, the defense has been forcing turnovers in those first three games, even against Ole Miss. So it's not impossible, but I worry the offense just can't score. MVP? Alex Safari. All right. I don't know why I said that.
