Starting point is 00:03:12 Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-754. We will go back in just a second to UK football.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Let's talk about a couple of other things here real quick. First of all, blue-white game, Drew, nothing really matters except that Jalen Lowe got hurt. I mean, I don't even know that there was anything worth talking about before the game. It cast a pall on the proceedings because as soon as it happened, then everybody stopped playing. We still don't have an official word from UK, but the kind of unofficial word that I've heard, and it seems like since then other people have heard is that kind of popped it out of place, but nothing was torn, and they feel like it should be fine. And the phrase I heard was two to three weeks, not going to probably play in the exhibition games,
Starting point is 00:04:17 and then hope to have him for at least one regular season game before Louisville. But it was said to me that, you know, sometimes these things can linger. and it could go a little bit longer, but the sort of worst possible option, which is like serious injury, seems to not be on the table. Have you heard similar things? That and there's some people that saw him
Starting point is 00:04:41 at the Louisville volleyball game yesterday, and he wasn't wearing a sling, which you'd think, I would almost bet anything he'd have a sling on. And, you know, they're keeping a close eye on him and said he looked to be in good spirits. It wasn't really favoring or anything. So he was out in public and living his normal life
Starting point is 00:04:55 going through it all. But when it happened, And that was about the biggest panic I can remember around the Kentucky fan base there for a while. It's been a while since we've had one of those, yeah, where everybody was – because, I mean, I think he's the only guy on the team, Ryan, you can't lose. You know, I mean, you don't want to lose anybody. You don't want to lose anybody. But if you're just talking about the guy that would hurt the team the most long-term to lose, I think it would be him. And then to have that happen in the blue-white game was – it's tough.
Starting point is 00:05:22 Yeah, two things. One, I'm tired of seeing our point guard lay on the ground with a shoulder injury. That's two years in a row, that's got to stop. And second, it's all Annabelle. Get her out of here. Don't let her come back around in basketball season. Get her out. So you all blame Annabelle.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Shannon, do you blame Annabelle? Of course, you got on the air. You were mocking her. I can first of all. Stop putting me in the context. I did not believe. She came after your favorite player. You've been talking Jalen Lowe.
Starting point is 00:05:49 All my stops on Jailen Lowe. So you should reverse the curse and apologize to Annabelle right now. It is. You think it's because it was my favorite play. Yes. I mean, she could have gone after anybody, but she chose her favorite player. Yeah. Well, I don't think it had anything to do with me.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Plus, there was a priest that blessed the city of Lexington. Did you not see that? Yeah, but it doesn't work on her. Remember, you made fun of him. Didn't think he was a real priest? That's true. You didn't. You questioned his credibility.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I did question whether he was a real priest. Yeah. I still don't think he's a real. I don't think the Pope assigns priests to follow dolls. I don't. Maybe I'm wrong. You should. Maybe I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:06:31 And it was the one player who gave the jersey to Adam Sandler. So Annabelle, I think, totally signaled that person out. And Adam Sandler mentioned somebody getting injured. Yes. Come on, man. Let's connect the dots. So you're putting all this together as an Annabelle Sandler priest. Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:06:48 No, don't throw me in there. I didn't have anything to do with this situation. So, Ryan, you haven't heard anything, though, to make it seem like it could be longer than that. No, I'm leaning on you guys to surprise us with some health updates because I've not heard anything. They just desperately need him back this season. He's the
Starting point is 00:07:07 most valuable player on the team. I do think, Drew, he probably won't play against Purdue. Does that change how you feel like you'll judge the game against the number one team in the country Friday? No, we're Kentucky basketball fans and we're absolutely crazy, so we expect to win that with anyone playing point guard, and if we don't,
Starting point is 00:07:23 we'll panic a little bit. Not too much, but we won't treat that like the game that it should be just as a meaningless exhibition. Well, I'm not going to panic. I actually think this is, in some ways, for me personally, Ryan, it makes me worry about the game less. Now I'm going to be like, well, if we lost, we would have one if we had Jaylon or Jaylon Lo, you know? I mean, I actually kind of think it's going to be, I'm less nervous about the game without him because, again, it doesn't count, and I always have the backup excuse of not having our point guard, right?
Starting point is 00:07:53 Think if they win without him, how obnoxious will be. Yeah, look the other way of the optimistic outlook of if you beat Purdue without low. If you beat the number one team in the country without your starting point guard and who I think will be your first or second best player, now Ryan Lemon, I'm starting to get excited. Okay, let's go ahead and put a positive spin on it. You know, one of the weaknesses we thought this team going into the season was who's going to be the backup point guard. Well, we'll find out. Aberdeen, Colin Chandler, Jasper, here's your chance, you guys.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Yeah, we're going to find out. They're all going to get a chance, I would think, to see. I think Aberdeen will get the first shot at it. But it'll be interesting to see. I think this, you really will get kind of a workout. You're going to play the number one team in the country. You're going to see, okay, who can play this role? And, you know, the other thing is, Drew, Mark Pope has experience
Starting point is 00:08:41 and not having a starting point guard and trying to figure out how to work around it. Yeah, I mean, you don't want this to happen, obviously. But there is a little bit of, there was a question mark of who's your second point guard. well, now you have a built-in excuse to play those guys and give them experience that they would have had otherwise. So, still horrible thing to happen. Glad the news isn't bad. But there is a little bit of good news that the other guys will get an opportunity earlier than they would have to see what they can do. Saturday, we talked a lot about just the city of Lexington and how many people were there.
Starting point is 00:09:15 You know, from, well, Friday, Ryan, would you like to do your traffic rant from Friday night? Friday night was the worst traffic in the history of Lexington, Kentucky. It was awful. It was a waterline break on Main Street and a wreck out there at Newtown Pike and Interstate. And all this happened during rush hour when Keenlin was letting out and people were trying to get downtown for the blue-white game all at the same time. It was awful. It is the worst I've seen. I tried to drive to my house to the restaurant The Catch, which is out there on Southland.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Yes. and I think I could have taken, you know, I think I could have walked. I mean, quicker. It was, it was the worst thing I've ever seen in terms of the whole city was, was just gridlock. You know, you had the scare fest. Then you get Saturday, you have the scare fest, you have the game, you have Keenland, you have parents weekend. There was a protest downtown that had thousands of people. And then you just throw in that it was a beautiful day, just a beautiful day, just a beautiful.
Starting point is 00:10:19 day to be outside. And there, it was just, it were people absolutely everywhere. Our bar had, it was the second biggest day we've ever had at our bar. Honestly, probably the biggest, because the first biggest day included a time we did stuff outside and we didn't do like what had a tent and stuff. So I'm going to say, Texas fans, by the way, Shannon, big tippers, those Austin folks. Yeah. I think it's just because they're all rich.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Everybody kept saying there's a lot of orange in there and I said, all I could see is green. Yeah, there was. It was a good. It was a good weekend overall. I had a really good overall weekend, but the Texas people, I do thank them for that. But just in general, the city was alive. And I think, Drew, that's partially why Saturday night hurts so much was because had they won, I think Lexington would have been electric that evening, you know?
Starting point is 00:11:08 Oh, yeah. It was already, I can't remember a weekend like that, maybe ever. And aside from the traffic problems, Lexington really showed off with everything they were going. I can only imagine how much fun Texas fans had, but if Kentucky could have ended it with a win that night, this would have been an all- third. Uh-oh, there'll go again.
Starting point is 00:11:26 There we go again. We're losing you. Yeah. It's a good thing I got me and you, Shand. That's right. As long as I have you, we can get through everything else and we'll be able to do it. 859-280-27, but yeah, 2287.
Starting point is 00:11:42 But seriously, shout out to all the people that came to the bar this weekend. was maybe the best the whole thing has ever run in terms of, like, you know, people and food quality and just people being kind. And Texas fans, they're almost too nice, Shannon. Like, they don't, you know, like, you know, Georgia fans bark and Tennessee fans spit and, like, you know, all these people. They're always doing stuff. But the Texas fans were like, they were like the nicest fans I've ever interacted. Cowboys and Cowgirls, right? They're all laid back good people from Texas.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Maybe it's just like. They just. Oh, we got you now. We're back. You're back, Ryan. Hello there, sir. How are you doing, Cowboy? Like, they just felt like they were all pretty nice. Don't get used to it because, like you said, Tennessee fans coming in this weekend. It'll be completely the opposite in the next weekend. Who's next? Let's go to Daniel.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Daniel. Are they back, by the way? I heard Ryan talking there. Ryan, you there? We're here now. All right, cool. Daniel. Go ahead, Daniel. Daniel. Daniel. Anytime you're ready, Daniel.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Okay, we'll try down. By the way, we should know. quote, amongst the many people in the bar Saturday were former UK offensive coordinator, Rich Skangarillo, who, you know, when you're not thinking about seeing somebody, Ryan, and you're just like, is that Rich Skangarillo? And then there was a moment I was like, is that Steve Zon? Because he also kind of looks like Steve Zon, if you remember. It took me a minute.
Starting point is 00:13:09 It was him, and then he came in it and talked to us. Yeah, came up, talked to us a little bit. So he was there with some Texas fans, but he had on a neutral gray shirt, not rooting for either team. so he's a guy that needs a duo because he was here when Levis got hurt that season. Well, he also apparently is representing a lot of the potential first-round picks in the draft, so I think he'll be doing all right. All right, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:13:31 Don, go ahead. Yeah, there's two things I'd like to say. First one is I got to see all four of the Manning boys played, and I was not impressed with his last one. second thing is we had a good drive going the first quarter, I believe it was, made all the way down their 20-yard line, and we just stopped. We should have been ahead, but we stopped throwing the ball, and we ran. Watch your take. It did make me wonder, okay, so they script, and I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:14:04 They script drew, I think, their first 15 plays of the game. And when we started the first half, that drive all the way down the field, was scripted. And then you got in that situation after the slide where it was third and two. And my guess is they go off script there because it's a short yardage situation. And then we, you know, we're in the mud for two plays. Then if you go back to the second half, we start the second half. I'm going to guess it was scripted again.
Starting point is 00:14:35 And the plays, we went up and down the field. Again, we ended up having to kick a field goal, but we had a good drive. And part of it made me wonder, when you saw how good those. two drives were that were scripted, even though we only ended up with three points total in those, I think they had a total of 140 yards on those two drives. It does make you wonder, Drew, if like, again, in-game adjustment is the issue, because when they had time to think about it before the game, it actually, they went right down the field. And it wasn't just that game. Many games this year, the opening drive has looked good. Even going back to Calzada,
Starting point is 00:15:11 Hamden's got them pretty good right out of the gate. It's from there on out, as you said, when you're in the middle and you're having to base things based on situational, that's where I don't trust them at all. But when it's sticking to a game plan and you're right out of the half at the beginning of the game, they've looked pretty good this year. Ryan, I said on the post-game show, I remember Freddie once saying there were three parts to coaching, motivation, game preparation, and then situation. And I've said, I actually think Mark is really pretty good at the first two.
Starting point is 00:15:43 that like, you know, with a couple of exceptions, I think they generally are pretty motivated. He does a good job with that. Obviously, there was that meme during the offseason that joked about it, but I actually think it's true. I think really, especially when you look at Liam and maybe even Bush, when it comes to game prep and game plan, I think they're pretty good. The thing is just in the middle of the game, in-game adjustments. They've just never been good at him.
Starting point is 00:16:09 And I think he just can't help himself. I just think that's the football world he grew up in. He believes it. You know, when you get tight, you just try to out physical to out tough, ground and pound it, beat your opponent up front. I think he just can't help you. Now, I will say this, all we're talking about it. I was the best game I receivers have had all year.
Starting point is 00:16:25 It was. The receivers were really, you know, with Macon. I never throw the ball down field, but I did watch, again, being there, you're able to see the whole field. We don't get open downfield. So I think, you know, Ocho Cinco was like, they never throw the ball down field. I kind of think, Drew, we don't have a choice.
Starting point is 00:16:41 because I don't think those guys get open after about 10 yards. No, but they did spread it around more than ever. There's at least 10 guys that caught a pass. Law still looks like he could be something. He made a tough catch, even though he didn't have a lot of catches in the game. You add another tight-in, Henry Boyer with a big grab, but it's by far the most involved they've gotten everyone. You look, Troy Stalotto was in the game.
Starting point is 00:17:02 There's guys that haven't done anything that were in there making place. Yeah. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough
Starting point is 00:18:56 because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:19:12 I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:19:35 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What?

If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the T, everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it, I understand the game.
Starting point is 00:20:46 As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. is Ken Palm. Yes. This is bound to rain. All right. It's about Kentucky's three-point efficiency.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I hope that's right. I just want to assume she does the efficiency ratings. Yeah. Because no one's ever seen Kim Palm, right? I haven't. He looks like you would think he would look. I got a vision in my head and the nerdy-looking guy. He probably has a pocket protector.
Starting point is 00:21:28 There's a guy. What's the guy's name for CBS that does that? I've met him more. Jerry Palm. Mm-hmm. He looks like you think he would, too. Like, think about what you, a bracket. I mean, that's actually true.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Like, we know what Joe Lannardi looks like, Shannon. Yeah, Mike DeCorsi. Well, I don't put Mike in the same group. Well, he does the same thing. He does like the... Oh, he does brackets, too? Bracketology, yes, he does. So is that like you have to be like that?
Starting point is 00:21:57 I think so. DeCorsi, Leonardi, Ken Palm, and Jerry Palm. You think they just go to the... You think they were all like in the same fraternity in school? The fraternity of nerds and you put together brackets. Still a pretty good, it's a pretty good gig, I would think, though, right? Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Got a question for you. Shaden Sharp signed a new deal. Four years, $90 million. We all got to see him warm up and dunk. Sure. Do you feel any, like when you see something like that, Ryan, do you feel any like, that's our guy? it go, no, I'm not, I have no, it doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:22:37 I don't, this is just me, but like, Ennis, I felt like was our guy. Shaden Sharp, I felt like was never our guy, and I don't know why I feel that way. It's just how I feel. What about you, Drew? Do you feel anything for it? Not really. You know, I hate, because, I mean, he did go to the school and wear the jersey. I mean, he actually did a lot more than a lot of fans do.
Starting point is 00:22:57 He attended at least a class, I assume. So he should be a wildcat. I just don't feel that way with how all. that went down. It never felt right. All the comments around it were inconsistent the whole year. It just felt like we got played on that one. I know your answer to this question. I don't feel any connection whatsoever here.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Which is that you don't feel any connection at all, right? I mean, the guy that sat right behind them was just one row from basically being on the team as much as he was. So we all look at it. But I do wonder, though, if he did, and I said this on the pre-show, if he did play, let's say he played in the tournament against St. Peters, I don't think Kentucky loses that game. And if they don't lose against St. Peters, does that change?
Starting point is 00:23:36 What happens with Cali Perry? It's a great question. It's a great question. I kind of agree with you that they don't lose just because who's a – I mean, he is such an elite athlete. Who is going to guard him, right? I mean, probably no one. It's a great question.
Starting point is 00:23:50 I mean, there's a lot of what-ifs of the Cal-Perry era. Like, what if Cal had just played Reed, Rob, and Antonio a lot? You know, I don't say this to be rude, but let's just say – Drew, DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards, for whatever reason, don't decide to come here, right? And you just have to play Reed, Rob, and Antonio. Is it a different time for him? Is it a different season, different career? There they go again.
Starting point is 00:24:19 You know, apparently, Shannon, maybe this is having to do with them. You know, like, the Internet is having problems all around the country. Yeah, I hear like Amazon was down and, like, some of the other apps that are connected to that. So what do we know what's going on? Like apparently there are like, like, this thing says 33% of all sites are either down or struggling today. Do we know why that is? I'm not really sure. Annabelle, maybe.
Starting point is 00:24:43 I don't know. I don't know what it is. There are a couple of apps that I use, like you mentioned, you can't get on Amazon. Yeah. Right? I tried to get on my bank app. That didn't work earlier today. So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Maybe that's what's happening at our studio too there in Lexington. But one third of America's internet is either down or working sporadically today. This is the thing. One of these days, someone's going to attack us and knock all of this out. Like it'll be like a cyber attack. Yep. And this country will be completely screwed when that happens. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Yeah, you can't do anything. I mean, business would have to shut down. I mean, everything would be shut down without the internet. And it's not like it's easily fixable. It's not like the old days where you could just scan the, credit card, right? Yeah, yeah. We have become so just reliable,
Starting point is 00:25:36 reliable. Reliant. Reliant. Thank you. I'll get there. Yes. On the internet. And if you don't have that, then a lot of businesses, like I said, just have to shut things down. They can't do it. Who's up next? Let's go to Lane. Lane. Go ahead, Lane.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Hey, Matt. First time long time. Who are? What's up? Two things for you real quick. I'm an international pilot for Delta, so I hope you had a great experience on your trip. I did. Thank you. Second off, good. Second off, do you think there's a situation on that fourth down that you kind of ride on the
Starting point is 00:26:08 momentum of your kicker and go for those three points? That way you know what you're defending against on the other end and just try to get something on the board and hope for a chance? Yeah, I don't. I mean, you know, I've obviously heard the other case. For me, it's just a numbers game, and I think the numbers are simply this. Okay, what are your chances of getting it on fourth and a half? I think if you run a good play, it's 75 or 80%.
Starting point is 00:26:30 Let's just say for sake of argument, it's 80%. And now, you know, four out of five chance to get a touchdown. I feel like if we score a touchdown, we've got a good chance of winning. All right, let's say you kick. Probably a 95% chance you make it. But now you give the ball to Texas. What's the chance that they score a touchdown? I don't know, 25, maybe 33, something like that.
Starting point is 00:26:51 So you got a chance of even losing. Then when you go to overtime, you're kind of in the same. same situation. They go first, but where are the chances you score a touchdown from first and 10 at the 25? It's going to be a lot less than 75 or 80, right? And then remember the rules have changed. So if you go to a third overtime, it's just a two-point conversion, which means basically, Shannon, you're going to be running the same play you don't believe in right now. You know what I mean? So I just, I kind of think, man, that like, you know, the numbers and the situation. Now, if I'm playing a team that
Starting point is 00:27:26 has a, that, whose offense is cooking, or if I feel like my defense is elite, or they've got a bad kicker, maybe it's different, but in that particular situation, I was good with. So, I appreciate the call. I mean, you know,
Starting point is 00:27:44 it could have been different in other situations, but I think the fact that they have such a good kicker to me means you give it back to them, Shannon, they're getting three. Right. Right. And you're in the same situation. and you're at best at best you're in the same situation at worst maybe they score a touchdown right
Starting point is 00:28:01 and you don't even have a chance to win so if they had a bad kicker maybe i would have a different view but but they didn't who's next let's go to ben ben go ahead ben 859 280280 27 hey guys um so two things one the shade and sharp deal contract extension just makes me even more mad that he didn't play a single yeah a single minute when he was here Second of all, just watching Saturday's game, that was the best game I think I've seen Kentucky play and since we'll love us with here, to be honest. But I'm with you about going on it, going forward on fourth down, like you said, worst case scenario. But as far as it goes, I am not hopeful for the rest of the season now.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Tennessee's going to come in and do what Tennessee always does. I'm not going to get the hype thinking that's going to happen. But as far as that goes, am I crazy to think. that it's best that we just keep Marksoup for another year with all the coaching jobs opening out. Well, let's talk about that. That's actually you lead into what I was going to do next segment. So let's talk about that after we, after return, because there are more coaching changes on the horizon. We'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:29:10 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Amazon Web Services, Shannon, is what's down. Ah, okay. So if you have a website that goes through Amazon Web Services, that's why it's not.
Starting point is 00:29:31 I don't know if does the Lexington Studio run through Amazon Web Services? That's what we've learned today is that it does. Every station in this building is having issues. And I guess you guys had issues last night doing your podcast. We did. We had to do cover zero in our house. So, because we couldn't get on there either. So, yeah, maybe that's what's happening.
Starting point is 00:29:49 One person writes on the text machine, Matt, I saw Drew with your twin at, at Keenland, first of all, don't say that. And he was wearing a cowboy hat. Is Drew's new thing cowboy hat? I don't know. Is it, Drew? No, but, you know, we paid pretty good dollar for that cowboy hat. And I've only worn it a few times. So you brought it out?
Starting point is 00:30:12 Yeah, actually, I wasn't planning on it. I was heading out for Keenland. And my wife was like, you can wear your cowboy hat? And I said, well, you know what? Now you mentioned it, yeah. Yeah, your cowboy hat, Drew. Yeah, they had taken over Lexington. If you can't beat him, join them.
Starting point is 00:30:23 yeah all right well it looked good like you uh he looks like he's going to ride rope uh what i'm not riding any rope right is that what he's going to do shit i'll ride zero rope well i saw how much you guys pay for those hats so you might as well wear them when you can't take him on a plane because you have to carry them the whole way and that's no fun through the airport so i i get it yeah i actually got to hang with your your twin for a little bit in brock oswalder uh on friday at Keenland and then I actually sat right next to them at dinner so I was with them a lot and he's very familiar with the joke and now that I've been with him in person it is pretty eerie how similar you all look it's not just like a screenshot I don't need to I don't need to listen was he
Starting point is 00:31:06 drinking Diet Coke a couple of people you're asking about the show this week so tomorrow not sure where we're going to be yet tomorrow if it'll be in the bar or studio I'll I'll I'll try to tweet that out we will be in the bar Wednesday and Thursday and then Friday Ryan, we are at Don Franklin in Lexington to get ready for the Purdue game. Correct. I'm not for sure which Don Franklin we were at. I'm not for sure which one it is either, but it'll be at Don Franklin in Lexington for the Purdue game Friday. Also, tomorrow night at KSbar, they're having something, Drew, called Quiz Night with Quiz. What does that mean?
Starting point is 00:31:42 Quiz Night with Quiz. That's a curveball for me. I would assume most quiz nights would come with a quiz. Maybe this guy's name's quiz. Oh, okay. It's got to be. It's got to be, but they're giving prizes every round so you can win. So if you've ever, if you if you if you're like, you know, Matt's trivia is too hard or he gets too mad at people for asking questions. That does happen sometimes, Shadden, because people ask them. I understand.
Starting point is 00:32:05 Yeah. Quiz night with quiz. Tomorrow night starts at 6 o'clock if you want to quiz with quiz. All right, let's talk for a second about coaches. Billy Napier gets fired. Got fired after a win. After they beat Mississippi State and just beat Texas. How does that even happen?
Starting point is 00:32:20 That feels rude. Justification. Like he's going to lose at some point this year. Why don't you at least let him lose his last game? Fires him after a win. He's now out. So let's just talk about the jobs that are already open, okay, for next year. Penn State's open, Florida's open, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Virginia Tech.
Starting point is 00:32:45 You're probably going to also see Auburn come open unless something crazy happens. and you're probably also going to see at least Florida State come open. Their AD said, we are exploring all options for our football team in the program. That doesn't make you confident, Shannon, if you're the coach going forward, right? Right, yeah, not at all. So you have some power jobs that are going to be open. I mean, just obviously Penn State, Florida State, Auburn and Florida are better jobs. And certainly Arkansas, UCLA, Virginia Tech.
Starting point is 00:33:19 I mean, those jobs are equal or some people would think they're better, depending on how you look at it. Do you think, Ryan, it changes whether you make a decision based on what other jobs are open, or do you do what you're going to do and it doesn't matter what other jobs are open? I think you have to consider it. I think you've got to take into consideration a little bit. You look at each other jobs and some of these top – there are only so many good top candidates, and there are some better jobs than your job
Starting point is 00:33:48 by already hanging out there. So I think you have to consider it a little bit, don't you? Well, I kind of go the opposite, Drew, because if you decide you don't want to make a change to wait, I mean, then you're going to lose all these cannons. You know, in theory, let's say there's seven good candidates and there's nine jobs. Okay. In theory, if you're one of the ones to go after it, you might get one of the seven. If you wait, then you're definitely going to get none of the seven.
Starting point is 00:34:16 and then you've got to hope new candidates emerge next year, which I guess they could. And it also may just be the case, Drew, this is just going to happen every year now in today's college football. So when it's your turn, it's your turn. That's what nailed it for me. Two things. One, you can't worry about everyone else.
Starting point is 00:34:32 I know it's not ideal that there are better jobs open this cycle. But if you got problems at home, you've got to fix your problems at home, regardless what else is happening in the neighborhood. But also, this could be every season. This could just be how college basketball is going to look for a little while, is everyone still figuring out this new era. You're also going to have several more on the list that aren't on there yet. Like in Auburn, they're still 0 and 4.
Starting point is 00:34:55 That's probably going to open up. Well, let's look just in the SEC. Florida's open. Arkansas is open. Auburn's going to be open. And there's a decent chance South Carolina will be open because Beamer might go to Virginia Tech or he might get fired if they don't get better. What about LSU?
Starting point is 00:35:14 A possibility, depending on how they finish. finish with LSU. So, I mean, you got a lot of SEC jobs open. But I still say, Shannon, if you determine you need to make a change, I don't think you can worry about what the other schools are doing. Yeah, and I think you're right that you're going to be running into the same situation again next year if you decide to bring them back. So if it's time to make a change, you got to do it and not worry about what everybody else is
Starting point is 00:35:40 doing. Yeah, I think it's one of those, you know, like my grandfather, you say, if everybody else was jumping off a cliff, would you? you, well, no, but if you have to jump off a cliff, you have to jump off a cliff regardless of what anyone's doing. Right. And I still think the other thing is, I think it's very important to realize that there are some top contenders for jobs that have connections to Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:36:06 And I don't know, Ryan, how many times that'll happen. I mean, if you were to ask the average person, who are the 10 hottest candidates for jobs in the country, how many times are three? of them going to have strong connections to the University of Kentucky. And some raw Will Stein and Brian Hartline all have those connections. I'm not sure that will ever happen again. Do you? No.
Starting point is 00:36:30 A guy was making the same argument you just said. He goes, and then you can throw in Brad White. You know, there's four maybe potential. I don't think fans can't. I mean, my personal view, if you're going to bring in Brad White, just keep Mark Stubbs. why am I paying $40 million to get rid of Mark Stubbs to keep Brad White? I think he's a top candidate that'll probably get a head job somewhere. But would you pay $40 million to get rid of Stoops to just keep Brad White?
Starting point is 00:36:59 I don't know if I'd pay $40 million to take anybody. But seriously, like Drew, is there an argument to do that? No, I think when Stoops' time is up, it needs to be complete overhaul to bring in some new excitement. That to me would be, you want a decision that will make my head explode. pay the buyout and then make Brad White to coach. Because, Shannon, if you're going to have Brad White, why would you even get rid of Stoops? Just keep him and then Brad White stays too, right?
Starting point is 00:37:29 You got both. It's already two for one right now, so you might as well hang on. That would be the most bizarre decision possible. It makes a lot more sense to keep stoops than to do that. Yeah, you go get another offensive coordinator. Yeah, at least for me. Who's next? Brian.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Brian, go ahead, Brian. Brian. Can hear me, guys? Yes. Take me off Bluetooth. You are off Bluetooth, sir. Okay. Two quick questions.
Starting point is 00:38:03 One, am I the only one that thought Cutter Bowley was sapped in the end zone? I thought they could have called that. They could have called that. I mean, they could have called it. I think there was an argument he wasn't, but if they had made the argument he was, I'm not sure there's much we could have done about it. Yeah, I have to agree. It looked awful close.
Starting point is 00:38:25 And second, have you seen what the NFL defenses are trying to do against the push-push, so to speak? Yeah, we talked about that on cover zero last night, which you can listen to on podcast. Appreciate the call. Ryan, they just had the Vikings just had a dude lay down. What do they call that? I don't know. I saw like the tabletop or something they're calling it. Is that what they called it?
Starting point is 00:38:48 the tabletop. Yeah, you just lay down and then they just pile on top of the guy. Do you like being the guy who's just like, you get to lay down and be at the bottom of the pile? Yeah, why not just put your biggest, fattest guys and put them up there and just tell them just to lay down so they snapped the ball? Well, that's what they did. Yep. That's exactly what they did. Drew, it worked. They got a false start.
Starting point is 00:39:08 So somebody else will probably try to do it too. Yeah, even Jason Kelsey, one of the original pushers of the tush, compliment them, said, I like the teams are trying new things. I could see why this would work. and he expects more of it. Yep. Draft Kings, bet $5. You can get up to $200 in bonus bets if you win. There's two Monday Night games, but let's not do that.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Let's do game seven of the Major League Baseball, American League playoffs, Mariners Blue Jays. It's going to be sad for baseball when these two Monday night games both outrate game seven of the ALCS, but they will because of who these teams are. Nevertheless, it's been a good series. Mariners Blue Jays, game seven. I guess let's see who the pitchers are. You got George Kirby for the Mariners.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Shane Bieber for the Blue Jays. Who you got, Shannon? I'm really pulling from Seattle. Would love to see them get their first World Series win, but I think tonight Toronto wins and goes to the World Series to play the Dodgers. All right, Ryan. Seattle, you know, went up too old in the series
Starting point is 00:40:08 and they were smoking the ball, but, man, Toronto is just a hitting machine. They're on a roll right now. I'm going with Toronto. Drew? I can't do Toronto. I know they're the favorite, but I'm riding with Seattle and the big dumper.
Starting point is 00:40:19 The big dumper. Can't let Canada or the Blue Jays get in the World Series. Yeah, I'm going to pick Seattle because I think it would be, you know, everybody's going to be rooting against the Dodgers, and it would be nice to have a team that's never won a World Series go against them. It's kind of a fight for the soul of baseball. How about Shoah, by the way? Is that the greatest game anyone's ever played?
Starting point is 00:40:40 Three home runs and 10 strikeouts in one game? It's never been done. First player in Major League Baseball history to have those numbers. But would you go so far as to say the greatest game ever played? Probably, yeah. To get the win on the mound and hit three home runs in the same game, that's pretty impressive. Intent strikeouts. And 10 strikeouts.
Starting point is 00:40:58 If anyone's saying it's not, you need to show me the game that's better. I agree. I agree. I don't claim to be a baseball historian. I'll accept the argument there might be one better, but I need to see what it is. You know, I guess you could argue he doesn't play in the field. Although he did play in the field when he played pitcher, right? That's right.
Starting point is 00:41:16 So, yeah, it's got to be the greatest game ever play. We'll take a break and be right back. 859-280-2287's KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Starting point is 00:45:15 guarantee with shady race. I want to give a quick shout out to the family of a guy from Bell County named Steve Kewood who passed away at 82. Steve was someone who always kind to me and my family an activist in Appalachia fought for many, many years for clean water and for kind of average citizens and their health in Bell County. He also was part of a group that in 1964 met in Berea, where they took all. these young people in Appalachia to talk about projects for LBJ's War on Poverty.
Starting point is 00:45:50 That occurred in Berea, and a lot of what ended up in it came from that from my hometown, and always a big advocate for me, but also this show. So prayers to the family of my good friend Steve Kewood. Shannon, you said that there are some games out there in contention to go against showhead. Yeah, so let's see if these are better than three home runs and 10 strike. pickouts. Back in 1977, we had Rennie Stennett who had seven hits in a nine-inning game. It's pretty impressive. It's not a clinching game to go to the World Series. Okay, we're just talking about the game itself, though, just the game.
Starting point is 00:46:28 I know, but I think the situation matters, right? Well, if the situation matters, then I might as well save my breath. All right. Well, keep reading the other ones. Okay. Bill Dougalby, an 1898 hit a grand slam in his major league debut. Pretty impressive. You don't like that one? Truly, that's happened before. Yeah, that's probably happened a lot.
Starting point is 00:46:47 Tony Kloninger in 1966 hit two grand slams and pitched a complete game. Okay, now that's good. That's pretty good. Now, this one may be the best one. 1971, Rick Wise hit two home runs and pitched a no-hitter. Yeah. Okay, now that's really good. So that I think might be better than Tony.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I still pick Shohei because of the context of when it happened, but I've never heard of that, Ryan. two home runs and a no hitter. That's pretty good. I forgot that, but as soon as he said, Rick Wise, I knew what was coming. Yeah, but that was just a regular season game. For Otani to do it in the playoffs in that situation and on that stage, that's still, to me, a bigger game.
Starting point is 00:47:29 That's pretty impressive, though, Shannon. That's a good one. All right, I have a question for you. What you all think real quick on a hockey question. The San Jose Sharks have played five games. They have yet to win. My Carolina Hurricanes beat them once. after their fifth loss, the coach was interviewed and he said, quote,
Starting point is 00:47:46 I promise you this is true, I would give up one of my children for a victory. How many does he have? How many kids? He apparently has three. Oh, the middle child, right? That's the one he wants to get rid of. Is it, if you are his kid and you hear, I would give up one of them, they're all fairly young, too. I mean, I don't think he literally would do it, but he said he even,
Starting point is 00:48:11 said, Drew, I am serious. I would give up one of my kids for a victory. A regular season hockey victory. I love it. If I were a Sharks fan, I'm embracing it. I mean, he didn't say which kids. We don't have to make it awkward when you see the kid. It reminds me, Vrable for the Titans a few years ago said he'd give up the thing that makes kids to win a Super Bowl, and we got fired up behind that. So I like this. I would support it, even though it doesn't look like he's been in that good of a coach so far. Well, I feel like, I feel like Ryan, that's a little harsh to whatever children you have. One of these days, they're going to grow up and go, really?
Starting point is 00:48:46 You'd be against the Utah mammoth, you would have given us one of us up for a victory? Ryan would adopt it. That way, you wouldn't be an empty nestor anymore. That's true. Dad, you're only five games into the season. I know, he's giving it up. He wants to get rid of that kid anyway. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:49:02 That's it. Yeah. Yeah, maybe so. Who's next? Wayne. Wayne, go ahead, Wayne. Hey, I would just, you know, everybody's talking about. the last Tuesday he won for.
Starting point is 00:49:14 I assume that there was going to be a close game. And if you look at statistics, they had a 13% chance, the way we held them the whole game of scoring a touchdown against us from the 25-yard line. But what about the first time he went for it? Why not, I mean, you're playing a team that is supposedly way better than you. Put points on the board. Yeah, but see, that's the reason why I go for.
Starting point is 00:49:41 the first part of that. You are playing a team way better than you. So you got to, this is your chance. I mean, you could argue how many times you're going to be inside the 15 yard line? I think the answer to that question is the whole game we were only inside once after that. So, you know, I understand what you're saying. I appreciate the call, but I kind of agree with what Mark Stoop said in the post game, which is if I didn't go for it on those two times, I would have gotten crushed by for being too conservative. And I think that's probably true. I think most fans would have said, how you not going for it. So I don't blame him going for it. I think it's
Starting point is 00:50:15 the right call. I think the problem was the play calls. Who's next? Andrew. Andrew. Go ahead, Andrew. Hey, Matt. You just mentioned, you know, Florida's already fired their coach. Auburn's probably going to fire their coach. So let's suppose Stoop's beat Florida. He beats Auburn and he beats Tennessee Tech to get the five wins.
Starting point is 00:50:33 What do you think of the most likely scenario to end the season? Does he beat Van deer or Louisville to get to a bowl game? Does he lose two respectable games? Or does he get blown out in both games, and now you're wondering, oh, God, is he going to get fired? Great question. All right, so if your scenario is we beat Florida, we beat Auburn, we beat Tennessee Tech, then that means we're playing pretty good.
Starting point is 00:50:56 Appreciate the call. The most likely scenario is you lose two close games to Vandy and Louisville, and, Drew, we get to the end of the year, and we have no idea what's going to happen. That would be, to me, the most likely scenario. Yeah, I can see that happening, except I think the Vandy game, no matter how Kentucky looks, is going to get ugly. That's Pavia's senior day. I know we loved how our defense look against Arch, but Pavia was doing whatever he wanted against LSU there. So of all the games left on the – I mean, they're a top 10 team now, and they have game day coming.
Starting point is 00:51:29 I'm confident we could sneak up and get Louisville, even though they're ranked now, but that Vandy game scares me more than what are the odds I could have gotten three years ago on, Vandy, Missouri will be a college game day game. Yeah. Or Vandy and Indiana, both in the top 10. Indiana's number two. I mean, that's insane. Indiana's number two. Vandy and Indiana in the college football playoffs is a sentence I thought I would never say.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Never. Yeah, and it's very plausible. Playing each other maybe. Who knows? All right. Thank you all very much. We will see you tomorrow. I have a great rest of your Monday.
