Starting point is 00:02:49 Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Friday, October the 24th. I am Matt Jones here on an absolutely beautiful day in Lexington, Kentucky. We are at Don Franklin, Nissan. which is just past Man of War out here on the way to Athens Boonesboro exit. Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, Shannon the Dude, and Matt Jones. We are at Don Franklin.
Starting point is 00:03:16 You know what, Don Franklin, they're getting up for spooktacular savings at Don Franklin. For a limited time, get select 2,025 Nissan Pathfinder model starting at just 29-961. Ryan, I love being here, in part because we've got a great crowd. In part, you get these people waiting to get their car fixed. and they're like, why is this guy yelling, right? As we're waiting to get our car fixed, but nevertheless, and this guy in the green, he's not looked up from the television. He has absolutely no interest in what's going on.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Even as I say this, Ryan, I always enjoy that. Well, they got the service to the waiting area right by our show, so why don't they can sit there and enjoy the show? Yeah, go to watch TV. Thank you to those of you that are looking over here. He ain't going to do it. Before this show's over, he's going to look. He doesn't know you're talking about it.
Starting point is 00:03:58 I don't think he does. I like it. Drew Franklin, nice to be here with you. Yes, good to see you all. A nice waiting room over there. They won't be here long. That's the good thing about being at Don Franklin. That's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Quick service. Free coffee over there. A great place to hang out. I think you could make an argument that this is, I don't know, you think this is the biggest two sport weekend of the year here in Lexington. I mean, you know, I guess you could say the basketball game doesn't count, but I don't know that we're going to have a Friday night game that's going to be bigger than playing Purdue, number one team in the country in an exhibition.
Starting point is 00:04:33 and then you're one of your biggest rivals in football the next night. I'm not sure. Shannon, do you get a bigger one, two weekends than that? I don't think that you do. I'm trying to think what would even come close that has happened so far this year. And even though it's an exhibition game, I think tonight it's going to feel like it is a non-conference regular season game, like a big game.
Starting point is 00:04:53 I think it is too. I think it is too. I'm actually, I'm looking forward to a big day. I'm going to Keenland, contemplating looking Shannon like Bradshaw, suit and cowboy hat. It's a good look for you, man. I saw Drew had on the cowboy hat last Friday. I'm thinking about doing suit and cowboy hat.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Don't forget the towel around your neck. You'll have the towel. I think it'll look weird if I'm wearing a suit and a towel. You just dab yourself when you sweat, you know. Yeah. But if you're out there today, please say hello. And then I'm going to actually wear the same outfit to the game tonight because I'm going to the game. Well, then you have to wear the cowboy hat.
Starting point is 00:05:26 We've got to see it. I don't know if I can walk in Rupp Arena with a suit and a cowboy. Nobody wants to be sitting behind the guy with a cowboy hat on either. That's the worst. But we will see. Are you looking forward to tonight? Very much excited about tonight's game. It's an exhibition.
Starting point is 00:05:40 Don't tell me that. I don't care. I'm treating this like it's March. I think the whole atmosphere will be like it's March in there. That's how I feel. Even though it won't affect seating or the resume, don't tell me that. I'm excited about it. I look this morning, by the way, some tickets have dropped this morning.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I would say if you want to go, just about it now. I've got a feeling it'll get more expensive. as the day goes on, but I think I saw tickets for like 60 bucks. You get to see the number one team in the country against Kentucky for 60 bucks. That's pretty good, I would think. But I do expect a really good atmosphere. People just
Starting point is 00:06:12 excitement for basketball and then having the number one team. I love the fact they change the rules to where this can happen, Ryan. This is to me what we've been waiting for. You know, we've both excited about this basketball team. We get to see them tonight. And oh yeah, by the way, they happen to play the number one team in the country.
Starting point is 00:06:28 This is what we've been waiting months and months for. I'll say this, you know, my son is now a freshman at UK. He goes, we can't get tickets. Like the student tickets apparently are gone. So that's a good sign. Well, yeah, this is, I can see students are excited. You know, I had a Purdue fan write me last night. Purdue's played a couple of these games.
Starting point is 00:06:45 So they've played, even though this is the first year you can do it like an official one. They've had, what, secret scrimmage games or whatever? They've done a couple of these. They played a couple years against Arkansas. Pre-Cal getting there. I think last year they played somebody. I can't remember who they said. But he said, Drew, that Matt Painter will play his whole team,
Starting point is 00:07:06 that he will play his whole team, that he wants to win, but he basically plays the whole group and then lets the chips fall where they may. I think if they do that, you've got to think, Drew, we do the same, right? I'm picturing for 35 minutes. You're going to see a lot of experimenting. Some guys farther down the bench will play more than they normally would if this were a January game. But then when it gets to about five minutes,
Starting point is 00:07:29 If it's still close, I think you're going to see them lock in like this is an elite eight. I mean, both teams are going to want to win this. But up until that, they'll be working on things. Does that make the result matter less if they're playing the 12th man for both teams? The result only matters if Kentucky wins. Because if we lose, we've got two guys who are starters who are out with low acquaintance who won't be playing, right? So if we lose the game, we could say, well, we lost with it. But if we beat the number one team without two of our best players, we're a national championship, right?
Starting point is 00:07:57 I don't, on a personal level, I don't look at quaintance like that, just because it's going to be so long until he plays. And I, I mean, I assume he'll start when he comes back, but I'm not. I do think Lowe changes how I look at it. Mark Pope said yesterday that Lowe is basically, he's going to put him back on the court in a week, which, you know, that was kind of what we were hearing, but that's a deep breath moment. Because if he's just out a week or two, I think the,
Starting point is 00:08:27 The plan is to try to play him exactly what Drew had said he wanted. One game before the Louisville game and then into the Louisville game. I think after you saw that injury at Blue White, Ryan, that's about best possible scenario, right? Yeah, great news, what Pope said yesterday about him. He said, you know, he's in no pain. He was shooting around some in practice. They're going to hold him out of live contact for another week or so. But it was just, I think it was a great update that the fact that he's not going to be near as long as we were fearful that he might be.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Yeah, I wasn't worried. I was worried. Actually, I was worried. When I saw him on the ground Friday night, I was worried because I think it was the amount of pain that he was in. It looked to me, made me think, uh-oh. So I think this is like great news. Oh, yeah. I mean, this time a week ago or tonight a week ago, people were wondering it could be months.
Starting point is 00:09:16 You know, if you were there, I know people heard him yell, it popped, and he didn't want to hear that. And when he's rolling around on the ground in pain, Pope cut it off immediately. You could tell Pope even admitted yesterday, he's like, I was. was just as terrified. Well, I mean, he said he was embarrassed because he was shook a little bit, Shannon. He said, I actually was shook a little bit, which he acknowledged that's why he called off the game. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:09:39 I mean, if all the times to lose when you're star players, you don't want it to be in a meaningless blue-white game. The good news is, though, looks like he's pretty much back to full strength. And I think that this were a regular season game. He would probably play. He might play. So that's Friday. Now Saturday is UK versus Tennessee in football.
Starting point is 00:09:57 You feel good about that one? Let's talk more about Friday. Kentucky is still only a seven and a half point favorite. I mean, that's not a lot. Are they giving us too much credit for what we did against Texas last weekend? I mean, I kind of think yes. But, I mean, in my heart, and I've actually been pretty good this year at dialing into, like, If you look at my scores, I think I've been close in almost all these games.
Starting point is 00:10:26 You called the Texas game last week. And I called the South Carolina. I mean, I was the Georgia score basically. Now, I was gone for Eastern Michigan. But the first couple, I feel bad because, like, I think we're going to get run tomorrow. I do. I mean, I think we're going to lose by three or four touchdowns. And I hope I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:10:46 I want to be wrong, but I just kind of feel like this matchup, and we got beat up against Texas. Now, they did play Alabama, but I don't feel great about it. It's not a good matchup with how Brad White plays defense. You know, the Texas and even Georgia, your style can have you in it. But Tennessee just scores too many points. I mean, Kentucky will have to be in the mid-20s to even be in it. And it's just like, do we have any faith we can get in the mid-twenties?
Starting point is 00:11:13 No. Now they took a step. And that's like your floor of trying to win the game. Well, I mean, look at the last 10 years, right, in this game. We've won, I think, twice. But I think we've gotten blown out. out in almost every other game. So I feel like that's kind of how I feel like this is going to go.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Dries was undefeated too. He's been lighting him up. Drew said it. You know, we have to score somewhere in the mid-20s or higher to win the game. Do you have any confidence whatsoever your offense can do that? That means you're going to score touchdowns on defense or special teams. Well, I mean, it also means Bush Hamden might have to score two touchdowns in the SEC game for only the second time ever. I mean, that's an amazing statistic.
Starting point is 00:11:50 I just want you to think about that for a second. He has coached 13 games against Power 4 schools, if you include Louisville. We have scored two offensive touchdowns only once. I mean, I don't even know what you say about that. And in that game, one of them was a fumble in the end zone that we recovered. I don't know, Ryan. I mean, it's hard to see a scenario because you're not going to stop Tennessee under 20. I mean, they just scored to me.
Starting point is 00:12:21 Now, they're defensive. If we had a good offense, their defense will give up. a ton of points. It's just we don't necessarily have the offense to do that. Do we take any, you know, hope that Cutter Bowley and the offense did look better. He did have a lot of passing yards. They put up some good numbers.
Starting point is 00:12:37 They just couldn't get in the end zone. Well, I think that means we might score. I'll give you a fun set. But otherwise, I mean, I would feel even work. We can't score in the red zone. We're actually incapable of it. We're pretty bad at it. Tennessee's defense is 131st out of 132 in the red zone.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Like, they let teams in. So if there's a, ever an opportunity. I mean, Texas is maybe the best defense in the country. And sure, I didn't light up the scoreboard. But Kentucky was at least moving the ball and cutter bowling was a little, we saw some composure, another step forward. Tennessee's defense will give up some points if they're able to play a little bit like they did last week. I don't know what the stats, I don't, I saw this stat at some point. I don't remember the specifics. But to his, to what Drew just said, in the last five years, really since Liam the first time.
Starting point is 00:13:21 So you're talking Skangarillo, Liam the return. and then the years of our guy Bush. So four years, whatever. We have had, right, we've been like the fourth worst team in the country at touchdowns in the red zone. Like we've actually scored a lot of field goals, but we don't get it in the end zone once we get it in the reds. As a matter of fact, we've almost, I think, scored as many touchdowns from the 15 back as we have from the 15 end, which is crazy because we're not a big zone. We're not a big play team either, usually, but we just really struggle in the red zone.
Starting point is 00:13:59 And, you know, we talk about our receiver room, you know, that's where they could help us. You know, maybe the guy just can't get open down there and they get pushed around. I think it's a conservative play calling a lot of times. I agree with that. I think that's what it is. I think sometimes, especially like when you're in the five, you've got to do something, sometimes you've got to be creative. Think about Andy Reed and what they do inside the five.
Starting point is 00:14:18 I mean, literally, think about Kansas City and what they do with Mahomes and what they do with Kelsey and those guys. Shannon, we don't, we're going up the middle, and if you clog up the middle, we're done. And we're just content with a field goal at that point. At least we'll get three. That feels like the mentality when you get down in the red zone. Yeah, and it hasn't worked for us this year. So you mean jumping from the three-yard line, trying to jump over the line of scrimmage is not a good call? All right, more likely today, beat Purdue, cover the spread against Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Beat Purdue. I mean, the odds would say, more likely. to cover the spread against Tennessee? You would say beat. I would say beat Purdue even without two of our players. Okay. Just because I don't know how that game is exactly going to be played. Drew?
Starting point is 00:15:01 I would also say beat Purdue. I think that's a no-brainer. I think it's beat Purdue over covering that spread. I mean, that spread is so small. That's the thing. I'm shocked by it. If you had asked me what the spread would be, I would have said, Drew, 13 and a half, 14 and a half.
Starting point is 00:15:18 And when I saw 7 and a half, I mean, I don't bet against the cats, but I mean, I'd be tempted in that one. That's one of the weirdest spreads I've seen in years for a Kentucky game. And it's moved two points towards Kentucky. Yeah, it's one of those games where actually it's making me think, well, what am I missing? Every couple of times in a season, it's like, all right, Vegas, something's up because this doesn't make sense.
Starting point is 00:15:43 And then it could be one of those where they really think something happened to that Texas game, it took a step forward. Ryan, tonight on my post-game show for the basketball game. So I'm doing the post-game show tonight. I mean, I'm excited because it's always nice to do the first time we've seen him play. Who's the player I'm talking about tonight? I mean, it's not going to be low, it's not going to be Quintens, probably not going to be O-A.
Starting point is 00:16:02 We know what O-Way is, so let's put them to the side. Of everybody else, who am I talking about in the post-game show? I think you're talking about Denzel Aberdeen. I think he's a guy who's going to play you to start a point guard. You know, everything Pope says he's just glowing about what he can do in practice and how much of a better player he was than he thought. I think it's Aberdeen. It's sophomore Colin Chandler.
Starting point is 00:16:20 We're not going to wait to get into the softball. sophomore Colin Chandler experience. The breakout begins tonight. Number one team, we don't have to wait for the BBN United Tipoff Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism or Louisville or the Champions Classic. Let's just release sophomore Colin Chandler. I hate to repeat what he just said, but I was going to say Colin Chandler before he said that. So I guess that would be my pick as well, Colin Chandler, tonight.
Starting point is 00:16:42 Yeah, I think it's got to be somebody that shoots the ball well because Purdue is very good at interior defense. Over the years, they always seem to have going back 10 years, some dude that can really protect the paint. So I think it's got to be somebody outside. I like all of your picks, just to be different. I'm going to say Jasper Johnson. I'm going to say that he looks really good. That's for you.
Starting point is 00:17:07 That's for you, Mario Brotty, back there. I'm going to say Jasper Johnson, the Kentuckian, is going to be the dude that he'll make one or two plays that will surprise. So we all pick kind of backcourt guys. I think it's got to be a backcourt guy. It's this team. If we're playing somebody else, it would be different. But this team is a team that you're going to have to hit some shots. So who would be maybe one of the big guys that maybe you'll be bragging about tonight?
Starting point is 00:17:29 I think. Moreno, to me, is going to be better than people think. That's my answer. Yeah. He's close to be in my pick before Colin Chandler. I think we're going to be talking about him a lot. He shocked me. I've now seen them two or three times.
Starting point is 00:17:42 He shocked me. He's a lot. I thought that kid wasn't going to play this year, and he definitely is. And I didn't necessarily see that coming. 859-2-80-2287. The text machine is 772-7-4-5-254. We are here at Don Franklin, Nissan. Frontier Pro 4-X is on sale for $38,237.
Starting point is 00:18:03 My man in a green shirt has not looked up yet. We will take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed the game. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations
Starting point is 00:19:13 with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:19:46 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keir Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam, it's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 00:20:16 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen. for, and he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
Starting point is 00:20:32 he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the,
Starting point is 00:20:48 flying he run up the court licking his fingers why he got the ball like after you go through a training camp with that izah you figure it out real quick get your ass up and down the court and you're gonna get the ball so listen to point game on the iHeart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts what's up guys this is clivert taylor the fourth and on my podcast the clivert show i'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff like being an internet famous referee we're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here Friday.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Tonight, the pregame show begins at 3.30. If you're coming to the game, come on to KS. Bar before. Pregame show is at 3.30. So you've got afternoon listening if you're at your work today. Game is at 6. So that means my postgame show will be around 9.15. And then tomorrow, the pregame show is again at 3.30. So if you're wondering what time things are this weekend, 3.30 and 3.30 because the football game is at 7.30.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Tonight we get Tom Hart and Jimmy Dykes And then tomorrow Tom Hart, Cole Kubelik, and Jordan Rogers Drew I hope we have Tom back in our lives in basketball I remember last year they were giving them They forced Carl Ravitch on us It seemed like every game I even wrote a website post where I counted all the Carl Ravage games
Starting point is 00:22:34 Nothing against Carl but we need a little more Tom this season Than we got a year ago I think they're on to Tom They know what he's doing he's dropping KSR Easter eggs But why would you go against that That's who's watching the game is us I just like the confused look of Jimmy Dykes every time he drops a reference. Jimmy's like, well?
Starting point is 00:22:50 Yeah, we got a guess. What are they today? Tom did write me and say last night. He was in town. He's like, what are you doing tonight? And I said, you know, I'm watching football. And he goes, are you sure? Are you at the freshman game with Ryan Limith?
Starting point is 00:23:04 Which means he was listening last night. Which, by the way, that game ended on a hell-marry touchdown pass for Boyle County. I should have gone. Exciting finish and I missed it. Yeah, you definitely. should have. Fourth quarter and you need options. 27 stores, over 6,000 vehicles across the bluegrass, trucks, SUVs, and sedans, only at Don Franklin Auto. They're ready when you are. We got a bunch of people on the phone. I want to get to it, but let's start with this.
Starting point is 00:23:30 The name that we sort of introduced to the Kentucky world yesterday was Eric, come Monday, will be all right. I don't know. How many of you in here knew his name before yesterday? One person. How many people on this show knew his name? before yesterday. One person. So the total amount of people at Don Franklin who knew him yesterday are two. Well, yesterday, the text machine and my personal text number lit up with Eric Monday comments. And I would say 95% of them passed.
Starting point is 00:24:06 People say to me, Matt, if Eric Monday is going to be the next president or if Eric Monday is going to have anything to do with doing the next coach or whatever, Kentucky is very, very lucky. Really, a ton of nice comments about him. A ton of people saying, Matt, I don't think you all realize he's kind of been doing this for the last six months. Like, there's a lot of sort of stuff that's kind of been transitioned to him, especially at the university, not necessarily the athletics department, but the university level.
Starting point is 00:24:38 So, you know, there's a random name that comes up yesterday, Ryan, that I think now we're going to all need to get to know. We may have, it may be Monday for the next little bit. You know, you get to all these texts. Some of them, you don't know how much truth are into him, but they said he's also maybe can running for the LSU president's job. So like, is he going to, is he that high of a candidate to be maybe president at LSU or Kentucky? He came from LSU.
Starting point is 00:25:02 I know that much. I don't know what his role was, but there is a connection. Well, that may be so. But, you know, a lot of times, I've told you all a little bit about the guy that was doing our NIL for the last two years. And I said, I don't think anyone knows him. Like, if you went to a UK game, he'd be probably on the court, and you wouldn't even realize how important he was. But I said, for the last two years, this has been the dude that has made a lot of stuff happen.
Starting point is 00:25:29 He made Pope's first year roster happen in part. He made Pope's second year roster happen. Now it's going to JMI. So that's a different point. It'll be different people now. But I was like, this guy is the guy. And, you know, Shannon, most people didn't, almost nobody knows who he is. I do wonder if in the future it'll be like this with the guy we met yesterday.
Starting point is 00:25:48 I had never heard of the guy until yesterday, but if you tell me that anybody gets 95% approval rating, I mean... Well, on the text machine. Well, I mean, that's a good sample, though. That's a lot of people. You can't get 95% of people to agree on anything. None of the people on this show get a 95% approval rating. That's true. On the text machine, I can tell you that.
Starting point is 00:26:05 So a good sign. Who's up first? John. John. John, go ahead. John. John. All right, what's next? Andrew, go ahead, Andrew.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Hey, guys. Thanks for taking the call. Last year, I was curious what your thought. I was thinking about this on Drive, and the number one team of the country goes into Arkansas for an exhibition game. Some more situation of this, and they get drugged. We figured out pretty quick that Kansas wasn't a true number one team in the country. So my question is, what are we thinking?
Starting point is 00:26:46 I mean, the outcome of that bat ended up being the same outcome in the tournament for Kansas and Arkansas about their feelings. I'm curious what you all think. We expect to learn tonight about the expected feelings of both these teams. Yeah, I would say, I appreciate to call. I would say to you that I don't expect Purdue to be a disaster this year. They got too much returning. You know, last year, the thing with Kansas, they were all transfers, young guys,
Starting point is 00:27:13 and Hunter Dickinson, and that just did not work. this Purdue team has been good in some form for the last few years. Unlike a lot of other teams, they keep a lot of their core guys and kind of go through. I'm expecting Purdue to be good. So unlike last year, where Arkansas looked great in that game and then kind of didn't look good really until the tournament, I think, Drew, if we look good tonight, it's a good sign for us because I don't expect Purdue to be at all of us this year. No, Purdue's for real. If they weren't the unanimous number one, they were close.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Brain Smith, favorite to win player of the year. He's a unanimous All-American point guard. But then they have the Big Ten's leading score next to him. He doesn't get talked about as much, but he could also be an All-American candidate this year. And then, of course, because they're Purdue, they have two gigantic white dudes that, like, they always have. Where do you think they find those? One of them's from Israel this year. They got him out of the portal, but they have another homegrown one.
Starting point is 00:28:09 He's, like, 7-5 with a comb over. It's the same player we've seen there for 10 years. It is amazing. They grow gigantic white guys in a lab, and they're always awkward, but then somehow end up really good and effective, and I don't know how it happens. They just turn them out. It's like a factory. Yeah, I think they, well, they're in engineering school.
Starting point is 00:28:29 That's just they engineered them. I think they create them. That's right. Just have an assembly line of those guys, and they've got more of this. And Zach Edie's in the NBA. Actually been doing pretty well. We'll take a break. Be right back at Don Franklin, Nissan.
Starting point is 00:28:43 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. So what's the... Liam always wonder about people's mindset. What's the tie-it-up with ribbons and bows thought?
Starting point is 00:29:03 Just a great song I was listening to this week. Okay. There we go. There you go. Why not? Good answer. Sitting there listening to tie her hair with ribbons and bows. Sign her letters with X as an O's. That's what you can do.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Hey, Ryan, you know that kitchen you hate? Yes. It's not going to fix itself. A lot of people think I'll wait until January to start by remodel, but by then estate renovations is already booked. So sit down, get into a design agreement, and make sure your project starts in January or February. Fix your kitchen like Ryan's hideous one or your bathrooms. Go to estate renos.com. Your kitchen's not that bad, is it?
Starting point is 00:29:37 Oh, it's elegant. It'squisite. Estate renos.com. KSR, get it started today with estate renovations. 859-280-2287. Text Machine 772-745-25-4. Drew, Moore came out about the NBA gambling scandal. A lot of interesting facts.
Starting point is 00:29:59 So there were three different people. Start with Terry Rozier. He basically just had a – he played himself into a bad first half and then took himself out of the game. there's some clips of a game that he was in. He did look like, in hindsight, it looked like what it looked like. I think you could,
Starting point is 00:30:20 it's pretty bad if you have a game where they could just put it on in front of the jury and go, just look how he played, and you would see it. I remember when that happened because Twitter went nuts, and I think the NBA investigated and kind of cleared him.
Starting point is 00:30:31 I think the NBA is going to have some answering to do on all this, because they've kind of, I'm not saying they're still going to want. I want to take up for the NBA on, so they investigated it and they took his phone. But to be fair, they don't have subpoena power.
Starting point is 00:30:43 So unlike the federal government where they could go interview people and question them, the NBA can't do that. So like, unless Terry Rozier texted, I am going to do this. Just them having his phone, I'm not sure what they could do. It's hard, it's hard
Starting point is 00:30:59 because you can't, the federal government can make people talk, Shannon. Right. The NBA can't, really, unless you're in the league. That mixtape, though, is very suspicious. I mean, you're an NBA player, you're airballing lay-up. I mean, you can miss without being so obvious. He'd be dribbling, he'd be like, oh, no.
Starting point is 00:31:15 And then put his hands on his hand. He did put his hands on his hand. What happened? What did I do? Oops, I turned the ball over. Did you see it? He missed the next 10 games with the injury that he admits was fake. That's why I'm like, well, why did he miss the next 10 games?
Starting point is 00:31:28 It makes me wonder if the NBA set him out and called it an injury. Oh, I do think there's a possibility. They're going to have to explain why he missed 10 games with an injury that we now know he completely faced. That's, I think, a fair question, yeah. So was the connection with him that De Niro last? Last year they went to high school together? Is that right in Cleveland? I think.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Yes. So then Damon Jones is an assistant coach. Apparently his thing is he gets word. LeBron's going to be out for a game as an assistant coach and then tell somebody. And he says, allegedly, Shannon, don't forget to keep your boy D. Like basically saying, hey, if you use this. Cut me in. You better give me a cut.
Starting point is 00:32:08 It doesn't look good for him. No, it doesn't at all. You know the NBA has got to be hating this with the timing of the NBA season just now starting. And it started so good. And here's this big scandal. The games have been so good. Yeah. And this is overshadowing all of that right now.
Starting point is 00:32:23 Obviously, you have to say, if the things in the indictment are true, but if they are, Drew, D. Jones going, hey, make sure to keep your man D involved. Like, that doesn't look good. I've enjoyed all the clips that are circulating in the last couple years where people had questions, and now it's like, well, now we really need an investigation. Gilbert Arenas on his podcast a year ago tells a story of LeBron covering a prop bet and Arena says, my gambling group, it's me, Damon Jones, and LeBron James. Like, he says that on a podcast.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Oh, he did. And he even plays a clip where LeBron talks to him at the free throw line. And it's word for word. He's like, you know who's covering this? Damon Jones checks in and LeBron passes it to him. So it's like all the stuff that we just saw. LeBron would be a whole other level if it became that. But we're getting stuff recirculating that's making a little more sense.
Starting point is 00:33:07 along those lines, Chauncey Billups. So, Chonzie Billups is involved in all sides of it. So we'll start with the basketball side. In the indictment, it says, co-conspirator number eight is a basketball player that fade through these years and is a coach now in Oregon. Well, there's only one NBA team in Oregon,
Starting point is 00:33:30 so I think it's pretty clear that that's about Choncy Billups, too. It alleges that in a game, he decided to sit his whole team out and tank the game, and he called a guy before the game and said, by the way, I think I'm sitting my whole team, and then the guy makes a big bet. That stinks like duck poop. That's like Pete Rose territory.
Starting point is 00:33:55 That's a whole other thing. And then the poker game stuff is the wildest part of all of it. It said that they would bring rich idiots to poker game. Now, by the way, if you're going to fraud somebody, fraud and rich idiots I'm fine with, all right? But bring them to poker games to cheat them. The way they cheated, Drew, was unbelievable. They would wear contacts that could see,
Starting point is 00:34:22 could see like, I don't know what you would call it. Marks cards. They would wear contests. Chonzie Bilps and the guys would wear contacts so that they all work together to make these people lose. and they ended up taking them for a ton of money. Chonsie was there as basically the come-play poker with Chonsie Billups. And then all these other dudes essentially won the money in a fraudulent game.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Yeah, they used him to make it legitimate, like having a celebrity at the table. But he even had a nickname in there, I slip in my mind. But he's going to have a hard time acting like he didn't win a part of it. By the way, take a chance. I meant to write it down. The nicknames of the mobsters involved in this are amazing. It's like Greasy eye, Armenian Bob. Ernie.
Starting point is 00:35:09 Like, lefty. Like, everyone involved, it's almost like if you're going to be involved in illegal schemes, you have to have some kind of crazy nickname. What about the Rick Petino connection to all three of those guys? He coached all of them. He coached all three of them. Boston, Louisville. Hang on.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Are you implicating Rick Petito? No. Let's look into it. We're just topic of conversation. Wait a minute. What's your topic? Who was Terry Rezzer's coached at the college? Okay, Rick Petino.
Starting point is 00:35:36 Who drafted Chonty Billups out of Colorado to play for the Celtics? Okay, Rick Petito. Who named Brad Jones played for? I mean, I'm guessing Rick Petito. Where are all these mafia people based, Boston? So are you throwing Rick Petiton? No, not at all. Just, you know.
Starting point is 00:35:51 He came on our show. That's the last time he's going to come on the show. Friend of the program. Maybe he's innocent. It's just worth having a conversation. Okay. Just for the record, Rick, I've said enough over the years about you. I'm not putting you in this scandal.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Not either. It is just a, that is Ryan Lemon and Drew Franklin. Please contact their attorneys. I have nothing to do with it. Who's up next? Slim. Slim. Slim.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Slim. Slim. Slim. Okay. Who's next? Isaiah. Isaiah. Go ahead, Isaiah.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Hello. Yeah. Anytime you're ready, go ahead. All right. Hey, I got two points here. I think us losing Jaylon Lowe is going to be okay. I think we actually have a few guards that can fill that position. And also, as far as Mark Stoop goes, I think even if you want wins against Tennessee and Louisville,
Starting point is 00:36:58 I still feel like we need to move on. Just his stats and everything with all that, I just don't think he can do it for us in this era of college football. And I'll hang up and listen to your thoughts. Appreciate it. Let's say, Ryan, you beat Tennessee, you beat Louisville, you go five and seven, but you beat your two biggest rivals in the process, play Texas really well. Let's say you're even competitive in the other games. What do you do this?
Starting point is 00:37:28 I know a lot of people disagree with me, but if that's the scenario, I'm still riding with stoops. I just think I don't know if we get anybody better than him at that point. If they're able to pull out five wins out of this season what we've gone through, that's a pretty good coaching job. There's one thing to watch if he gets hot and wins a bunch of games is he still might use that as an opportunity because it might make him attractive to a Virginia Tech or something. He still might see the riding on the wall and that could, you know, he could coach his way into a job. And that's probably, let's assume Shannon he can't get to six wins in a ball.
Starting point is 00:37:58 His best case scenario is probably beating Tennessee and Louisville being competitive in the other games and being five and seven. I don't think, I don't know if Mitch Barnhart could fire him in that. No, I don't think it could. I'm not sure if he could. Whether he should or not, finding $38 million after that would be a harder thing. Tennessee and Louisville, those two games are the two games left on the schedule that mean the most to this fan base.
Starting point is 00:38:21 And if you beat those teams and you're competitive in the other ones, then I think you hang on to them at least for another year and see what happens next season. If they beat Tennessee, I mean, I'm not going to get crazy and get ready for a bowl game, but Auburn and Florida look a lot more winnable. Auburn might not have a coach. Florida already doesn't have a coach.
Starting point is 00:38:36 Those locker rooms could be falling apart. So if you beat a ranked Tennessee team, he might be favored against Florida at that point. But then there's also the possibility that we get run this weekend, and this gets really bad on Sunday. That is quite possible. That's the scenario. I mean, I do think that's, I mean, I want you to think about the possibility of, let's say we lose by 30. Then what's it like on Sunday and Monday? Fan base will be screaming.
Starting point is 00:39:05 That's a whole other. Monday show. After we watched them play the number one basketball team, and then whatever happens Saturday, that'll be interesting. Well, if you beat Purdue by 10 and lose the Tennessee by 30. What's the Monday like? I think people are going to still lead with the football, to be honest. Really?
Starting point is 00:39:20 I mean, I just think that we've reached that point where people are just like, all right, I want to hear something. 859-2-8027. Text machine 772-7525-4. Starting point is 00:40:55 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:41:57 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the play. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Starting point is 00:42:23 Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court licking his fingers why he got the bar like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, guys?
Starting point is 00:42:44 This is Clever Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to weigh better. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:43:26 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-774-55-25-4. One person writes in Matt and says, Matt, Yesterday, Louisville fans online and on the radio were going after you for getting your facts wrong about their football team. You said Jeff Bromond never won 10 games. He did win 10 games. Does it make you mad that they make fun of you online for the things you say? Not at all. They're listening. That's good. So it counts as one of our listens. When's the last time any Kentucky fan corrected a Louisville radio host?
Starting point is 00:44:05 We don't listen to them. I don't know that anyone knows that they exist. It was good to see the sheriff is still out there, Drew. Policing fan behavior for the University of Louisville, U of L sheriff, online, going, stop! He was one of the ones that took a shot, but I enjoy it. I'm glad to see Louisville fans have a pulse again and that they are trying to rival him. Yeah, I don't engage with the sheriff. I love what he does.
Starting point is 00:44:30 I like what he does for a community. You've always been very pro-law enforcement. I have. He talks about us a lot. I've never engaged, never plan to engage. I also notice a lot of Louisville fans were making fun of our rosters and we're talking about Final fours and we might not win a tournament game. And I'm like, have you all even won a tournament game in like eight years? What are we doing? Here's the thing I don't, I don't, you know, you'll hear me say this about us sometimes, Ron. I'll say, you know, like, we'll talk about how great our roster is and I'll be like, but remember, these other schools don't know who these people are. Like we talk about like Braden Hawthorne.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Like everybody knows, nobody on any other team knows Braden Hawthor. Louisville fans are the worst about this. They'll look at the Kentucky roster and go, who's the good player? I mean, Jay and Quayton's could be a top five pick. You know, Otega always preseason All-American. Jaywin Lowe's very, very good. Dinsall Aberdey wants to. But they'll say who are, and then I look at their roster, and I don't know any of their players.
Starting point is 00:45:26 Like I don't know any of them. They've got one guy, Mikhail Brown, the freshman, who could be very, very good. they got one or two guys that returned that were pretty good last year. The guy that got hurt during the NCAA tournament, I think he's back. So, like, they've got a good team, but they act like we know their seventh, eighth. I've never heard of any of these guys. It's, like, it's unbelievable. And they have not won a tournament game since Truman.
Starting point is 00:45:51 And there comes a point where, like, you guys should take a step back. I love it. I'm glad it's back, man. I want this back and forth with Louisville, man. And not just good for our show. I just enjoyed it as a fan, just kind of going after somebody. But think about last year, they played in Lexington. They played Creighton in Lexington.
Starting point is 00:46:07 They had a packed house, and they lost. And at one point, we're down big, I think, and then came back and made it close at the end. That, and a couple weeks ago, Pat Kelsey said their point guard you, and I thought, it was one year ago when our point guard did not miss a shot from the field and set the records points scored in that series. And your point guard, you, how does that happen? I like that. I think Pat Kelsey, it's good that he, Did you like that he gave out the glasses, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:46:33 He took his little trademark Christmas story glasses, and they gave him out to donors, and it said Louisville Kelsey's glasses. Did you like that? I mean, it was completely dorky, but you might as well embrace who you are. And they'll just remember who was out asking fans to come watch their games. It wasn't Mark Pope last year.
Starting point is 00:46:53 It was Pat Kelsey. And I'm fine with that, by the way. I think Kelsey has done exactly what he's supposed to do. do. But I don't understand why these guys, why they act like that there's some sort of amazing power. But they do, and they listen to this show, and I thank them for that,
Starting point is 00:47:10 Ryan. I am not a fan of the Louisville fan base, but I am a fan of of Coach Kelsey, and I like what he did with these glasses. I think that's kind of a cool little thing. He's a short little nerdy guy like me, so yeah, do it, man. You should give Ryan's glasses. Yeah, yeah, you can do that here at remote. There we go. Ryan Lemon Glasses to everybody.
Starting point is 00:47:26 So here, by the way, there's some big exhibition games tonight. Louisville hosts Kansas. That's a pretty good one, right? That's a pretty good one. North Carolina against BYU. Villanova plays Virginia. Obviously, we play Purdue. Cincinnati plays Arkansas, Wisconsin and Oklahoma. So a lot of, this is kind of a good way, Drew, to see kind of what's what in college basketball. Yeah, and all the teams you just named that are playing tonight, other than our own game, I'm oddly excited to see BYU with a stud freshman. They have players back. I mean, they're ranked ahead of Kentucky. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:00 In the NIL era, that's a team to watch because they just have dumb money out there. They're football teams in the top 15 right now. I think they're going to continue to be a big part of the college basketball conversation. Totally, totally agree with you on that. Who's up next? Steven. Stephen, go ahead. First time, long time.
Starting point is 00:48:21 Who are? Go ahead. Sorry. We're on remote, just so you know, and there's an echo if we're not careful. so we're having to turn our mics down when you talk, so when I go to you, just go. But go ahead. Gotcha. So acting like low isn't hurt.
Starting point is 00:48:38 We've got everybody healthy. Who is Matt Jones starter and backup for each position? All right. Well, okay, so the back court, I think, is fairly easy. I mean, the back court is going to be low and O way. I think Aberdeen and Jasper will sort of fight it out over the year to be the, the normal two, or excuse me, the normal backup point guard, although they both can play at other positions.
Starting point is 00:49:08 I think Colin Chandler is kind of your backup two, although he could also then play the three. The three can go a myriad of different ways. It can be any of those people I just mentioned. It could be Cam Williams. It could be Trent Noah. It could be all kinds of things, depending on how they end up deciding to do it.
Starting point is 00:49:27 I think your five start in the season is Brandon Garrison, with Moreno behind him, but that could change over the course of the year. I think your four is Diabate to start. Probably Cam Williams is his backup. I don't know where Yellovich fits into that. I think initially he's kind of behind those guys, but we'll see. He could play his way into it. Trent Noah will float between the three and the four,
Starting point is 00:49:53 depending on what makes sense. But that's my, I think you're going to see between the two and the three a lot of flexibility, and then between the three and the four drew a lot of flexibility. I think this team can go multiple ways. They can play really small. They can play really big if they want with Jasper Johnson at point guard. So there's a lot of different ways for them to do it. Yeah, when they're fully healthy and low starting, I think we're going to see Oway at the three.
Starting point is 00:50:17 I have pretty good scoop on that. Who would be the two? Because at media day I said, O'way, are you a three? And he said yes. So I feel like he's probably going to be at the three. So that would mean Aberdeen at the two? Yeah, the Aberdeen Chandler thing, you know, I'm high on Chandler, but you have the championship experience with Aberdeen at that two, if Oway really is starting at three, I flip a coin in my brain at that spot. But, you know, I literally ask Oway, you see yourself more as a two or three. He's like, they're going to have me at the three, so I'm going to trust him on that one.
Starting point is 00:50:44 Yeah, so if Owe's at the three, then that means you kind of start to get crowded at the four and five. You start to, it starts to, that means Noah probably pushes to the four, and it becomes a lot more crowded position up there. That's why I know it's an exhibition game, and we want to win, but I think Pope will try a lot of combinations tonight, at least until it gets closer to the end of the game. I think it'll try to play a lot of people, different combinations, to see what actually is going to work.
Starting point is 00:51:07 O'A might be the two tonight with Noah as the three with the roster situation. Yeah, I would say to you, Oway and Lowe are playing 30-plus minutes a game. and then everybody else is kind of in flux based on what's going.
