I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue 42.
Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports
Radio Monday. October the
27th, I'm Matt Jones here
on a nice day
in Lexington, Kentucky.
It is the best of times and worst of times, and we will
get to it on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line,
859-28027.
AVV's an auto glass text machine 772, 775254 in this edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, you call T.J. I'll make them pay. Here's what I want to do. Last 30 minutes of the first hour are going to take calls. But until then, I just want to talk here with the fellas. So, Rick, we won't answer the phone for the first 30 minutes. Is that good? Sounds good to me. All right. Shannon is out on vacation. I'm going to go ahead and warn you. I'm like in a decent amount of pain. The back.
Still bothering you.
Yeah, the back kind of blew on Friday during the, I fit to, you know, I had a little bit of back pain before the remote.
And then I did the remote.
And then, you know, I'd already plan to go to Keenlin all day and being on my feet all day.
Yep.
When I got home, there it was.
And all weekend, I've been, Mario was in here last night mocking me for looking.
His exact words is where you look like an old granny.
He doesn't kind of a little bit.
to the grannies.
But I am, like, it's,
this isn't as bad as when I went to the preteness that one time,
and I did, but it's probably second to that, and it stinks.
I know when you came in walking to the bar Saturday to the pregame show,
you were walking all kind of stiff, stiff.
And today's like that too.
Today's better than it's been.
But if I,
I will just warn the call,
if I'm grumpy,
just know I've been laying down all weekend,
trying to find a comfortable spot,
uh,
to sit.
But it did allow me,
Drew,
to watch a lot of football,
the last couple days. I got myself up to go to the bar, but otherwise have been kind of
infirmed. Did you watch football that you enjoyed or were there any games this weekend? It's
a pretty tough weekend. The NFL yesterday was terrible. And then, of course, we're going to talk
about the Kentucky game. So it is kind of the best of times, worst of times. Friday night
has to get you excited. If you're a Kentucky fan, you have to come away from Friday night going
and who wants some.
Absolutely.
Right.
I mean, I could barely move,
and I was like ready to go outside and go, all right, want a piece?
And like the people who weren't even watching basketball were like,
what's he talking?
I was the same way.
I mean, I've kind of become robotic as a fan of this job because I just go to these games.
I kind of run together.
I woke up Saturday morning, just smiling.
Me too.
The moment I woke up, I was so happy from watching that basketball team the night before.
I watched it almost looking for.
weaknesses because my natural inclination was to I wanted to go on the post game show and go all right
everybody just calm down but then I couldn't I couldn't I didn't really know what to yeah I guess you
could say okay well we're not nine for 29 from three I mean I guess but like I don't know man
I was really excited and then take the opposite of that and then that was the football where I don't
No. I mean, it could have been worse. We could have scored six points, but it's bad. So here's what I'm
going to do. I think first hour, I am going to talk football. And then Josh Hopkins is coming in here at 11.
And I think part of the reason he wants to come in is he's so excited about basketball. I feel like
we do the football thing. And then second hour, we're just gleeful. Is we good with that? Very good with that.
We don't want to bring our guests into a bad discussion about.
He wants to be excited.
He wants to be excited.
So let's do this.
So let's do this.
Football, this is not Joker, Vandy, because we scored, what do we end up scoring?
34 points.
And there was some hope with Cutter and some of the young receivers.
But it felt like Tennessee could have scored 90 points.
Is that fair?
They could have scored every time they were on.
on the field. I like they punted one time, which
kind of blows my mind. But yeah, they could have run up to
scoreboard more than 56 points.
Even at the end, they surrendered
and slid. They could have run it up if they wanted to.
Yeah, they could.
70 was on the table.
There was a lot of the game when we kept scoring.
I was like, do you want them to score 70?
They were on pace.
It was like I was Mark going,
okay, let's run it up the middle a little bit.
Do you want them to score 70?
It was awful.
It was awful.
But I think more important than the specifics of the game was kind of how it played out specifically.
And part of this was because it was raining.
And part of this was because it was at night.
But the fourth quarter was empty.
Yeah.
You were there.
How empty are we talking?
Very empty.
Actually, someone sent me a good picture yesterday.
It's just unbelievable how the only people there are wearing orange.
I mean, you might find a couple Kentucky fans sit it out, but it just became their stadium for the fourth quarter.
There's bleachers and orange.
And you can't hide that.
Nope.
I mean, you can't hide that.
The players feel that.
The coaches feel that.
I mean, to whatever extent, there was left any, okay, who's with us?
Like, it's over at that point, at that point.
Which, yeah, I mean, that's an amazing picture.
That's essentially, show that to the camera.
That's essentially all orange.
And going in the fourth quarter, a lot of it emptied out.
So you've got a lot of football you're playing in pretty much nearly empty stadium.
So then, of course, online yesterday came the rumors that a change was going to be made.
This is what I'm going to say to people.
We went through this with the Cal thing.
There are only like six people you should be listening to.
I'm just going to say, like, no offense to people online.
Like if there's like six people that'll know.
And I'm not going to sit here and say who they are, but you can guess.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, I will say who they are.
you can listen to people from KSR,
especially the people that cover football,
or the folks on this show.
Listen to Justin Rowland.
You can listen to Larry Vaught,
if his attention's focused in the right place.
You can listen.
John Hale.
John Hale,
although he probably,
because of his role,
won't say a lot.
He wouldn't be as in the butter.
Jeff Drummond for sure.
And, you know,
Here's what's interesting about the anonymous sources.
The anonymous sources that know are usually people that don't have much of a follow.
Right.
So I've learned on the text machine, whose right is always like random numbers.
And I can tell whether they're right, kind of by how they word it.
You know?
So, but the more confident people are online, they're probably not.
So there was this like, oh, it could happen right now.
It did not.
here's where we are for the future.
I know this for, there's rarely I say certainty.
I'll say some certainty.
I'd say we're now at 85 to 90% chance we'll have a new coach next year.
You asked me that two weeks ago before the Texas game,
that number would have been like 50, 55.
It's 85%.
The only way it could be different is if, in my opinion,
if they were to win three, like if they were to go six and six.
Which would mean beating Auburn, Florida, and then either Vandy or Louisville, right?
Does anyone on this show disagree with that?
No.
Do you now think five and seven also means a change?
Because I do.
I do.
I guess I'd have to see who they beat to get those five wins.
I don't think the game's left on the schedule that impressive outside of Vandy.
Yeah.
See, I think there was a time five and seven would have made it close.
I don't think it does anymore.
Auburn doesn't have a coach
or Florida doesn't have a coach.
Auburn just got their first win.
Barely got a coach.
I mean, Vanney and Louisville,
you get one of those that'd be nice,
but I don't think it changes anything unless you beat Auburn and Florida.
So I think there's a decent chance we come,
I do the post game show Saturday night
and we know there will be a change.
I think it's unlikely that there's a change made here in the middle of the year.
Like, but for the first time, I don't think it's impossible.
I think if they lost two Auburn and Florida and one of those was embarrassing,
it could happen.
It could happen.
I think it's unlikely.
It's not really Mitch's style.
No.
But I don't know that he wants an empty stadium for that Tennessee Tech game.
I think that Tennessee Tech game has a chance to be really embarrassing to the program in a lot of ways.
and they know that.
So I think what happens with Auburn, Florida matters.
But here's what, I posted something last night on the KSR Plus,
and people got, I think they took it sort of the wrong way.
Our administration's tone deaf.
I think the administration has said, let's wait a week and let's see what happens at Auburn.
Not that like Auburn could save his job,
but Auburn could be the final nail, Ryan.
That's how I look at it.
Do you agree?
Yeah, they go on the road.
They get embarrassed, don't play well.
I think that would maybe be the final nail on the call.
And at which point, then I think there would be completely open to having the discussion of,
all right, how do we end this?
And starting to have that discussion with Stoops as people.
And depending what happens this weekend, you could still be a favorite against Florida at home
because they're in a bad spot too.
I think they play Georgia.
I think it's this coming Saturday.
Regardless, if you don't win that one, I mean, if you even get to that point,
depending what happens this weekend, I just don't think that win.
that's a win you should have.
Like that's not something that could save you or change the circumstances.
So that's almost a throwaway game for me.
It can only make it worse for you if you lose it.
And the reason it's not a like, well, it's out right now is there's still,
I think the people believe around the program,
there's still a way to win six games.
Now, we can all think that's ridiculous.
But when you're in that locker room in your plane, you can't think it's over.
No.
You still got five games to play.
And I think they look at it and say, is it insane?
that we could beat Auburn, Florida
and won of Vandy in Louisville?
Well, I mean, I guess it's not insane, right?
It's got a small percentage chance.
You could pull that off, I guess.
Well, my season prediction, game by game,
we're still right on it,
and I had them winning out to make a bowl.
So that's actually what I thought would happen
before the year began,
and now the opportunity is right in front of them,
even though I do not have the optimism in that.
Yeah, I don't think it's going to happen,
but I also think you have to, like,
you can't just look at your team
and be like this isn't going to happen.
So when we come in Saturday night,
you could hear me on the post game show
kind of switch the gear to,
there's going to be a change.
Here's what I think is changed.
Nobody around UK football believes this can continue at this pace.
Even the head coach,
his words.
I don't think the head coach thinks it anymore either.
I agree with a couple things he said
after the last couple of,
especially after the game Saturday night.
So a lot of our conversation over the year has been,
well, can they pay it?
I think we're getting to the point
that it's like, it's going to have to be done.
So just the question is only method, right?
Do all these other schools getting rid of their coaches early
and put a little more pressure on Mitch to make a move earlier than he wants?
I don't think it changes the final decision.
It might make them have to announce something early.
Yeah.
So I look at it like this.
If they're going to make an end season change, it'll happen after the Florida game.
if they don't do it after Florida,
he'll be here until the end of the year.
That's kind of how I see it.
I would be very surprised if there's an end-season change,
but I don't think it's impossible.
For the first time, I don't think it's impossible.
And I think part of it is a little bit these other teams.
Yeah, I think.
Because these other teams, I mean,
three SEC teams have let their coach go mid-year.
Three.
And maybe Auburn, maybe another one coming before the season's over.
And if we win Saturday, it'll be four.
think about that.
If we win Saturday, Hugh Freeze will be gone the next week too.
So there you go.
And on your scenario of losing the next two and then that Tennessee Tech game,
I think about, we're doing it now,
think of how many times we bring up that Joker game, the Vandy game.
That'll be the Joker game.
I think if these next two are ugly, don't even put them in that position because we all have that image.
See, that's the key.
You cannot have a moment.
that Tennessee Tech game,
this is part of the reason you should never play these games late in the year.
But that's a noon game against Tennessee Tech
where fans might want to say some.
You can't let that happen, right?
And by the way,
it also could ruin a relationship that honestly shouldn't ruin like that.
Yeah.
That's why if the next two are ugly, almost just get out of the way.
I think you almost have to do it.
And I think they know that.
It helps your search.
By the way, I think they know that.
I didn't think they knew it until yesterday.
I now think they know that.
So I think Mark Stoops is coaching right now just to finish the season.
But also, now, let me say, if they win six,
I think he will keep this job if he wants it.
That'd be a hell of a coaching job.
He ended up winning six games this season.
But I think I used to say, well, five will make it hard.
Five's not going to do it.
It's got to be six.
And everybody can see what it would take to get to six.
Like I said, he said some things after the game Saturday night that almost like leads me to believe, okay, he understands what's happening and he accepts the fact that he's going to be here next year.
He understands.
Yeah.
He knows.
He feels this fan base.
It's one of his strengths in my opinion.
He feels this family.
I agree with you.
And he knows what we think.
And I'll say this.
It breaks his heart.
I was talking to, there's one media member that I, I wouldn't say Mark and our club.
I know him decently well.
But like I haven't talked to him since July.
But there's one media member that knows him, I think, really well,
certainly better than I do.
And I talked to him this weekend after the game Saturday.
And they said to me, and I agree with this,
it kind of breaks my heart, which don't get me wrong.
I don't feel sorry for Mark Stubes.
He's going to make a lot of money and he's going to be fine.
But you know what?
When people are sad, they're sad.
Like my weakness in life is also a strength, which is I'm like insanely empathetic to people,
even people who are mean to me.
Mark's not been mean to me, but just in general.
And I feel bad for him because I know this is like breaking his heart.
Yeah, this is his baby, his first head coaching job.
And he knows how the fans feel.
Yeah.
And I want you to imagine you spend your whole life doing something and you want to please a certain group of people and then it's over.
That's what this is.
and so, but I think it's going to happen unless we win three games against good teams,
and I think that's unlikely.
And I think it could be the final resting play Saturday at all.
One of those coaches ain't coming out of the Auburn game.
Last one's day.
859-280-2020-87.
We'll do one more segment about this.
I want to hear from these guys.
I talked a lot on that one.
And then we'll take your calls after that.
It's KSR.

Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

So I'm Leanne.
This is my best friend Janet.
And we have been joined at the hips since high school.
Absolutely.
Now a redacted amount of years later.
We're still joined at the hip.
Just a little bit bigger hips, wider.
This is a podcast.
We're recording it as we tailgate our youth soccer games in the back of my Honda Odyssey.
With all the snacks and drinks.
Sidebar.
Why did you get hard seltzer instead of beer?
They had a bogo.
Well, then you got it.
Do you want a white collar or something here?
Just hit it.
What are y'all doing?
Microphones?
Are you making a rap album?
Oh, I wish.
Could you believe?
I would buy it.
Cuts through the defense like a hot knife through sponge cake.
That sounds delicious.
Oh, you're lucky.
I'm not a drug addict.
You're lucky I'm not an alcoholic.
You are.
I'm lucky I'm not a killer.
I love this team and I'm really trying to be a figure in their lives that they can rely on.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Listen to soccer moms on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
A couple questions on the text machine.
One person says, Matt, why don't you just call stoop's and ask you yourself?
Yeah, but I don't know how you do it.
Like, I've thought about calling him, but what am I going to say?
What would you say?
Hey, man.
You're going to talk to him as a friend or as a member of the media, you know?
I wouldn't know.
I mean, so like we're not close.
Like, let's say Ryan was the coach and this was happening.
I would call Ryan and be like, hey, man, how you do it?
Yeah.
Like, we're not that close.
And then there's also the thing, let's say he tells me I'm going to leave at the end of the year.
What am I supposed to not say that?
I guess I couldn't.
But then that makes it, that's weird, right?
Yeah.
So there's just nothing you can say.
Like, I was friends with Vince.
I could talk to Vince about this stuff.
but like this is different.
It is different.
Call him and give me some advice.
I appreciate that.
I don't think he doesn't even.
I've considered doing this.
He doesn't mean.
But you can tell he knows, Ryan.
That's it.
That's why I said with the comments he made after the game Saturday.
He knows what's going on.
And the thing is about the coaching search,
if you're going to make a move,
you need to have your new coach in place the day after that Louisville game
because that transfer portal opens, what, January 1st, January 2nd?
The whole month of December, you're going to lose some guys.
You've got to go get some guys.
You've got to have your coach in place.
as I feel like as soon as that season's over.
I do too, which is why they'll start.
One person asks, Matt, what do you think about announcing he'll be gone at the end of the year and then letting him coach out?
That's a possibility, but like Stoops has to agree to that.
And that's kind of an embarrassing situation for a coach.
You don't see that much.
You don't see it much.
It's not the Coach K retirement tour.
It's embarrassing for a coach.
I'm going to be fired at the end of this year.
But I'm going to coach three more game.
And in those games, they zoom in on you on the broadcast and talk about how you're a dead man walking.
And he ain't old.
It's not like he's going into the retirement home.
Like he could still do the job.
C.M. Newton did that with Bill Curry, let him go in the middle of the season.
And that Curry just stayed on the rest of the year.
But he never coached again, did he?
After he left Kentucky, he went to like Georgia State or something like that.
And so the UK players took the K logo off the side of their helmet.
That is like a sign of support for their coach.
So now you got to players supporting your coach.
Did they really?
Yeah.
I didn't know that.
It took the K logo off one side of their helmet.
But I don't think that's good.
I mean, it was good for Bill Curry and his players,
but I don't know that that's a good statement for the program.
Yes, correct.
Yeah, I don't think you can do that.
Although, I mean, that might salvage the Tennessee Tech game.
So the problem with Tennessee Tech game is the symbolism of it.
It really is because it's such a bad game.
And they're undefeated.
No.
Yeah, I mean, I'm not going to say it because they're, let's not even think about it.
They are lining up scoreboards every week.
Because here's the odd thing.
I do think we're better than we were last year.
Oh, much better.
Where's that offense been?
That offense is getting better every weekend.
You score 34 points.
You could win a lot of games.
Bush Hamden, underrated.
Well, I mean, the secondary is kind of the same people.
Okay, so he made a statement Saturday that it was classic Mark Stoops.
I'm going to tell you what's wrong, but I don't want to be accused to say it.
He basically was like, there comes a point there's nothing we could do.
And he was talking about the secondary.
He was basically like, he was all but saying, Ryan, like, I know these guys aren't good.
What do you want me to do?
I can't go out and get more.
I can't.
Did you kind of get that sense from that statement?
Yep.
And we all watched the game.
Every long pass went for 70, 80 yards in a touchdown.
It seemed like.
They've done that to us before, though.
Remember a few years back?
They did that too, where it was just like they just went deep.
It felt like the whole game was backyard football.
Go deep.
Hypo loves playing Kentucky.
He has to.
He's 5 and 0.
I think they've covered in most games.
They just do whatever they want with that,
Kentucky plays defense.
Now that it's over, can we say minus 7 and a half was the worst line of the year?
I mean, I don't bet against Kentucky.
I genuinely thought this would be my biggest bet of the year would be for Tennessee.
I couldn't believe it was seven and a half.
Well, I did bet against Kentucky.
I agree.
See, I think that's shameful.
Well, when it was seven and a half, at some point, you got to go, all right, well, this is just obvious.
I mean, shame, shame, shame, shame.
That blood money spends the same.
Like, yes, that is blood money.
It was actually my biggest bet of the season, too.
Diamond Hunter.
But you know, it was a one touchdown game with a minute 30 left until halftime.
And what happened?
In the end of the second quarter, he gives up a touchdown again.
Yep.
that one there was a minute 36 they had to go 75 yards
knew they were going to score did anyone watching the game not know they were going to
score they had one time out in the press box stephen x-me goes they're going to score
they i was like you know what with one time out this might be the one time they don't no
minute a half no down i knew they were going to score i somebody needs to look up how many points
kentucky's giving up in the final two minutes of the first half i would be interested our
plus minus in the last two minutes of the first half of the student
era. It has to be minus 690. And that was so bad because we got the ball to start the second half.
Yes. If you hold them there, you have a chance to tie the game to start the second half.
Yes. You do. Which was crazy. We felt like I think you were getting the snot beat out of us up to that point.
We're in the game. A lot of people left at halftime because of that. I remember thinking it's a 14 point game,
but then it hit me, well, they just watched yet another end of half touchdown.
I understand. It was kind of a miserable day. I mean, fans, it felt like everybody was going to their death.
March. We wore black.
Yet they didn't tell the
students. But didn't tell the fans and the students. We had a blackout
where no one wore black
except the players.
So, all right, where are you as a
fan base? I'm going to do, here's the thing.
30 second calls. Rick,
we have to enforce this, okay?
Okay.
30 second Mark Stubstakes.
859-280,
2287. Phone lines
are open. I've told you what I think. What do
think. We'll be right back. This is KSR.
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. 859-280, 2287. What person writes, Matt, why in the world
would Mark Stoops walk away from all that money? People are crazy to think he'll do it.
I don't think that's a ridiculous position, Drew, but he also is miserable. And so, you know,
is he going to walk away from $39 million or $38 million? No, but there is a world where he
says, okay, maybe I'll, you can pay me over seven years, but you have to pay me 40,
or you pay me right now and it's 28 and we all agree. Or maybe, you know, they're just hard
negotiators and they pay them 37.6. And if you're in his shoes, yes, that's a lot of money
that you could sit here and take the misery if you wanted. Or you can have a little less money
with the millions you already have. And, you know, he's got young kids.
going through high school and college, or he's got a beach house.
You could go live a very happy life with just a few less million than what you would get.
And he'll get a job somewhere else.
Might not be an SEC level job, but there would be a job.
He'll be an analyst for Kirby immediately.
Coaches want a coach, man.
You know, so if he sits out of it, takes the big money, sits out of year,
he'll get back in the coaching world.
Definitely.
All right.
So let's go through here.
I'm going to give everybody 20 to 30 seconds.
All right, because I want to hear what you think,
but also we can't go on a, so don't worry,
we're all good.
You don't have to ask how we are.
Just let it roll.
David, go.
Hey, you guys on?
I'm on.
When I say your name, you're on.
Oh, hey, Matt.
We're off to a great start.
Sadness, it's the end of an era.
And we can't be mad at Mark Stoops because he's too good of a guy,
at least if it was Brian Kelly, we could hate him.
And then, you know, us longtime football fans,
it's like at least we could say we were better than Indiana.
You know what I mean?
And the Indiana being so good, it's salt in the wounds.
And that's my piece.
I appreciate it, David.
I do think, Ryan, the Indiana Vandy thing is a part of this.
I really do.
I think it's like thrown right in our face that you can do it.
And it's happening right when we're struggling.
Those two teams have stepped up to another level.
So we do, even myself, I think.
Why can't we do that? Why can't that be us?
Louisville's success has never bothered me because they play in a different conference.
But Indiana and Vandy doing it in the SEC and Big Ten is frustrating.
Yep, and you can zoom out.
I saw the new, it's like whatever graphic with the playoff projections.
It proved so quickly that it opened doors for new teams.
You got Georgia Tech in there.
BYU's always been kind of steady, but they're up near the top 10 now.
It's just completely different logos in the top 25 than what we were used to seeing for so long.
Joe and Philly, go.
I'm not paying Stoops 37 to walk away.
I'm telling him he has 10 million to work with, put the rest into basketball.
Drew Franklin, your partner just called you shameless.
I say you recreate those two famous mems.
Go to the bank at 301s, put them to your phone and put them up to your ear and just tweet out shameless with you dancing.
Because that's easy money, baby.
I appreciate the call.
Mims.
Man, mims.
I mean, I get it.
What's funny is, though, you can get away with.
Like, if I came out and said I bet on Tennessee,
I would get destroyed online.
But Drew, he gets away with it.
I got bills, man.
I don't know what you want for me.
I can't, I don't normally do that.
I've probably done that three times in 10 years,
but it was so low, I thought,
I have groceries this week.
I have to take this.
I understand.
I mean, I would have.
I thought that was maybe the most ridiculous spread of the year
I've seen on any game.
I thought it'd be around 14 and a half.
just for the record, on the KSR Parlay, my picks are now like seven and one.
Hang on now, I got the best record.
I don't think I've lost.
You have.
I was the only undefeated one going into this week, and I went one and one.
That's false.
That's a lot.
First of all, now I did miss two weeks, but I don't think I've missed one.
Now, we know Shannon and Ryan and now Rick, everybody ruins it.
But I don't think I've lost one.
I went one in one this week.
I let us down with Arkansas.
I apologize, guys.
That's for me putting money by the money.
you should never do on that. David, go ahead, 30 seconds.
First off, wanted to say Ryan did a great job on Saturday with a tough show.
I agree. I listened to like 30 minutes of it while trying to find a position that I wasn't in misery.
And I thought he did a really good job.
But, yeah, I mean, keep it off. You guys are all great. But, you know, unfortunately, I think six wins is out of the question.
So gun to your head, what do you think is more likely? Two wins or five wins?
Appreciate the call.
Oh, boy.
Say it.
Five.
Because we're not losing Tennessee Tech.
But so five, but I don't think five, I think the most likely scenario is four.
I think we beat, I think we either beat Auburn or Florida.
We lose the other one.
Tennessee Tech is a miserable experience.
Internally, they will have decided to move on, but they can't say it externally.
And fans will think they need to make a statement and it will be miserable.
and then Tennessee and Vandy will be sad.
That's kind of where I think we are.
And just me, I can see us getting embarrassed at Auburn,
embarrassed at Vanderbilt,
but winning those two games you're talking about,
Florida and Tennessee Tech, then going into the Louisville game.
Also note, if you were to beat Auburn and Florida,
you could then have a three-game winning streak going into the Andy.
Vandy, I think they have Texas, Auburn.
They win those two.
You're looking at a top five Vandy team on his senior day in Nashville.
you'll be walking into a hornet's nest.
I can't believe I'm saying that about Vanderbilt football.
Have you turned on that guy yet?
Who?
Diego.
I mean, I don't, I've never really,
I think he can be a little over the top with his antics,
but I love watching him.
I wasn't able to watch a lot this last Saturday,
but I watched the whole LSU game a couple weeks ago,
and he's just so much fun.
I mean, he was doing whatever he wanted.
I kind of like the arrogance when you're wearing the Vandy logo on your helmet,
you're playing LSU.
I'll admit I enjoy watching him.
Yeah, he's, he's fun.
I don't think there's any doubt.
Who's next?
Jacob is up next.
Jacob, 30 seconds, go.
Hey, Matt.
Friends of ours are going down with me to the Auburn game.
We're taking the paper sacks just in case we end up getting blown out.
Yeah, they were out Saturday.
There were a few of them out Saturday.
Go ahead.
Yeah, I hated to see that LSU let go of Brian Kelly
just because that's another school we could lose
Summerall too.
And that's all I got.
Appreciate it.
LSU is going to be the best job available.
LSU is going to get the best coach available.
If they hire John Summerall,
that tells you what we could have had.
I don't think they will, though.
They're going to get, I mean, LSU will be the best job.
Florida and Penn State are good jobs.
LSU might be the best job in the country.
Every coach of the last four has won a national title
except Brian Kelly.
So where do they go?
Who do they go after?
Lane Kiffin.
That's where he's going.
Yeah.
Lane Kevin's got five jobs right now.
That's the one he's going.
That is number one.
Florida would have been,
Lane Kiffin's a coach at LSU and he'll kill it.
With Kentucky fans be upset,
if Kentucky beat Auburn,
they immediately fired Hugh Fries and then they ended up with
Summerall because they had an opening earlier in the year.
That will be the one that will hurt.
But I don't think,
Summerall's not going to leave while he's still coaching the team.
So this is why you have to make the internal decision to do it
because you could get the Sumerall thing worked out behind the scenes
because you already have this connection.
Correct.
And you could get it set.
But you have to make the decision to do it.
And I don't think they've made that decision yet.
And I don't think they will until we lose to Auburn or Florida.
And the worst scenario possible would be beat Auburn or Florida,
lose the other one, kind of know you're going to do it,
but not sure have a miserable thing against Tennessee Tech,
going to Vandy and Louisville, like, well, if we win both of these,
and then, like, it's gone.
Get smoked.
That'd be the worst scenario.
But that is a scenario, to be quite frank with you,
that I think is most likely.
Dennis, go ahead, Dennis.
Dennis.
Yeah.
John Cymall, Willside, or Dan Moller,
which one gives us the best chance to keep him?
Curtis Bowler Bowley and these young receivers.
No clue.
Appreciate the call.
I would think all the guys on the team would consider staying if you got the right coach.
Why wouldn't you?
Especially Stein, if you're talking about the offense, those guys.
No matter who the coach is, your number one priority, I think, is to keep Cutter Bowley here.
And as good as those receivers are, there are lots of good receivers.
Cutters the main one.
Cutters the one.
But you also would say, I mean, Will Stein might have a dude that's back up guy at Oregon.
Maybe he would bring him with him.
Let's real quick do the, you get to pick the coach.
Ryan Lemon is the AD, Drew Franklin's the AD, Matt Jones is the AD,
giving them the order of hire.
Ryan Limit.
I still go John Sumerall 1, Will Stein 2, somebody we hadn't even talked about, probably 3.
Somebody off the radar.
Yep.
All right, Drew.
That's mine too.
Although Stein, that gap between Sumerall and Stein keeps getting tight.
and tighter just with the offensive pieces.
And if you're able to keep the core of the offense right now with Stein,
that sounds like a lot of fun for the next couple of years.
Yeah, I'm flipping them.
Are you really?
Stein won.
Let's have some fun.
I've watched 13 years of Iowa football.
Give me somebody who's going to like blow me away with play calls.
Zippity do.
I wouldn't say that.
But like, and then Summerall second and then third.
I agree with you, Ryan.
Somebody I don't even know.
Yeah.
well when we're doing the Mark Stoop search
his name did not come up to like that final day
I remember we were sitting at the
at show in Louisville at a subway and you brought up
Mark Stoep like who in the world is Mark
Somebody reminded me that Will Stein's dad
has come to a couple of our remotes
Really? So I'm going to like
Go through the archives and see if I can contact him
Go hey yeah
You know and he played here right
Whoa yes people were telling me
Will Stein was real close to being a cat
Instead of a card out of high school and that it kind of
I didn't even fumbled on UK's in
but he wanted to be a cat all along.
Yeah.

I'm talking.
Or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
Hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.

the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He run up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, IZE, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Text machine 7-7-2-7-4.
one person writes, Matt, is there another coach besides Summerall and Stein that would make you excited that we just don't know about?
I'm sure there is, Drew, we just don't know about them.
It's kind of the point I was trying to make like six weeks ago with you, but I did awkwardly when you brought up Stein as I was like, why are we so excited about Stein?
There are other guys like him.
Probably should have said that differently, which is there are other guys as exciting as him.
We may just not know who they are.
We'll find that out during the process, probably.
Yeah, with so many job openings, there are guys that are going to move.
and other jobs are going to open. This carousel
is going to bring names, a wide
list of candidates, but I'll say right now
even though there are other options, if it's not
Sumral or Stein, at this moment on October
27th, I'll be pretty disappointed. I don't
want to have to settle, even if it might work
out. I'm very high on both of those guys
and want them. One person writes, Matt, I thought
it was bad of you to skip
the post game show after
Tennessee. Isn't this a cow-like
performance calling in on the shows?
Phoning in on the shows.
when the team does battle.
No, because they don't work for the state.
But secondly, when we took the cover zero,
I think it's important for people to know,
when we took the cover zero podcast,
as part of my deal with IHeart,
I did say to them,
look, on some of these weekends,
I'm going to have to, like, skip shows.
So, for instance, this weekend,
we had a show in the morning Friday,
we had a pre-game basketball show,
a post-game basketball show,
pre-game Saturday,
post-game Saturday,
NFL ESPN Sunday morning and then NFL last night we finished at 1 a.m.
And I said, if you want me to do this NFL show, I have to take some of them off.
And we agreed that a couple of the pregame basketballs and a couple of the postgame
footballs I would take off.
So that's why it is like it is.
And to me, I love people, but I'm not going to apologize for not doing seven shows on the
weekend.
Also, when I can't sit up straight, right?
Because of my back.
I didn't know that was going to be happening.
But, you know.
I was saying, man, give the guy some slack.
You know, this decision was made weeks ago to schedule me doing a postgame.
Drew's doing the postgame Thursday.
This is already scheduled.
Well, it was also a timing issue.
I knew that postgame show would end at like 2 a.m.
Yeah.
I have ESPN the next morning.
And then I knew we'd be up to 1 a.m.
doing the NFL on Sunday night.
And then doing this on Monday.
And I was like, I've got to take one of these off.
I can't take the NFL one off.
So we chose that.
post game. Yeah. And I thought, honestly, I thought you and Billy did a great job. I appreciate it.
Josh Hopkins is Shannon taking off for... Shannon's taking off for back issues too.
He's taking off for me. Josh, how are you? I'm great. Get up here next to the microphone.
Happy to be here, fellas. Were you at the football game Saturday? I was not. Okay. I watched.
I have opinions. Everybody doesn't have to hang up. I just wanted to say hi to Josh. We're going to get to him
more on the next one. I just wanted to say hi to him. I just want to say one thing about football.
Okay.
In my lifetime, and I'm old, the team's never been as good as they were under stoops.
I understand the time has come, but I'll always hold a special place for him.
I also think...
Is this how you break up with women?
Yes.
I get broken up with.
The team, these kids have not given up.
They haven't?
They fight hard.
You can tell, and I think that needs to be said and notice because I see them.
They're fighting hard still.
So I have a place in my heart for these kids because they are fighting and they're proud.
And I really like this group.
All right.
I totally agree with all of that.
I want to take a couple of these calls and then talk to you at 11.
Miller, go ahead, Miller.
Hi, guys.
Why don't we just take the jersey sales from Malachi Moreno and Jasper Johnson?
and it's on the buyout.
I will sign at a cut rate.
And when he leaves us for a premier program after a couple of special seasons,
hire John Summerall when he gets fired from his premier job for going for being mediocre.
Problem solved.
Appreciate the call.
There are going to be a lot of jersey sales after Malachi Marino.
I mean, we're going to wait for the second hour, but I think that is true.
Let's go to Mark.
Go ahead, Mark.
Hey, guys.
One thing, Stoops is like he was just talking about,
Stoops have done a lot of great things for this football program.
But it is time to move on, and it's just not performing at the level that everybody else is twice as quick.
I think you've got to let him go now.
You're paying the $9 million, $8 million, whatever we owe him for a salary.
But you've got to let him go now and start working on that because we're going to get too far behind.
What if you're having those conversations, even if you're not publicly letting him go?
I mean, I understand what you're saying, but letting him go in the middle of the season.
I mean, I don't think, has Mitch ever let a coach go in the middle of the season that you know of?
I don't think so.
Well, was Joker let go before that last game?
Before the last game.
Yeah.
No.
Was he not?
Did we not announce that?
At what point are you not going to have, what point you're going to have nobody at the stadium for Florida and or Tennessee Tech?
I think you're going to have people for Florida.
I appreciate to call because it's Florida.
But I think you have a real worry, Ryan, of having no one at the stadium for the Tennessee Tech game.
Especially they lose both to Auburn and Florida.
There may be.
10 people at the Tennessee Tech game.
A noon game against Tennessee Tech in November,
you could have nobody.
We find out the Florida game time today.
I think that could also be a statement game.
Put that at noon and let Florida get killed this weekend
because Florida does not look like a team.
But then maybe if they got killed, we think we could win.
Who's we?
You got a mouse in your pocket?
I think Kentucky could win.
You don't think Kentucky could beat Florida?
Well, it's more of the excitement.
No, they could definitely win,
but it's am I going to go Telgate,
to watch a Florida team without a coach that's not good.
I want that one.
The Florida's not going to matter.
Like, whether they're good is not going to matter to me.
I actually want them to not be good because I want us to have a chance to win the game.
Yes.
That's one of our few winnable games we have left.
No, I think you could be a favorite.
I just mean I don't, I think the fans could sit that one out because it's not that exciting if you were to not have a big weekend against Aubrey.
If Amy McGrath writes me one more text message asking for money.
You know, she was a fighter pilot.
Why did they?
Stop.
A lot of combat missions.
Soccer goalie.
They should take me off the list in principle.
You got me kicked off my television show.
I'm not going to give you money.
Do you have a reply?
It's probably just some teenager on the other end.
Reply what?
Do you know who this is?
Somebody should have some understanding.
Let's go to Jeff.
Go ahead, Jeff.
I don't think that Barnhart can give stupid chance to make a ball game
because of his auto renewing contract.
No, it's not.
They changed that, by the way.
So that got changed in the last revision last year.
So it doesn't auto renew anymore.
So that does make a difference, actually.
But it does not auto renew anymore.
That would be the case.
Yeah, we get six wins, make a bowl game.
You get add another year to that contract.
What do you think of fans who take the view?
I don't want us to make a bowl game because I want to change no matter what.
And there are a lot of those people.
There are a lot of those.
And I don't like those people.
I mean, we're here to humans?
We're here to win games.
If we're here to get to a bowl game, if he somehow pulls this off,
that's a great coaching job the man pulled off to get his six wins this season.
I won't go that far, but I will say I can't join the crowd that's actively rooting against them.
Like Josh said, Cutter Bowley's out there doing everything he can.
I mean, I can't root against the players just for the circumstances.
You can't root against the number one dick if you tank.
All right, we're talking basketball because it's exciting.
Yes.
And we did well.
And we're the best team in the country.
And we'll talk about it next here on KSR.
