Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, October the 29th.
I am Matt Jones here on a rainy, kind of nasty day in Lexington, Kentucky.
But you can give a shout at Clark's Pump and Shop phone line.
That's 859-2802287.
A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-727.
4-5-254.
And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, if you call T.J. He'll make them pay.
It is Wings Day here at KS. Bar, dollar wings all day for lunch and dinner. You can come by.
You know what, even with rain. You need food to eat, right? We are here. Matt, Ryan, and
Drew got some folks here joining us. And Ryan, nice to see you this morning.
I'm sure last night you ate with a lot of people to get yourself mentally ready for next week and all your solo adventures.
I ate out in your honor last night by myself.
That's what it kind of hit home with me.
You tweeted out that picture of you by yourself in a restaurant with a lot of empty seats.
I thought, oh.
But did I look sad?
Well, I couldn't see your face.
Well, it's because there was a big smile on the other side of it.
Enjoy myself.
I'm mapping out my strategy.
But, you know, there's a couple games next week.
Well, there's going to be some things thrown.
You can have all the strategy you want, but this is a game-by-game.
This is a day-by-day decision.
So just so you know, you can have all.
your strategy. There are a couple games.
Yeah. Doesn't change anything.
Do I move it to lunch that day?
No. You just, you
eat and you can pick
somewhere where the game's on,
but you can't pick somewhere we're like, we'll pick.
We got it, right, Drew.
We're going to make this. Did he say we're going to pick?
Yeah. Sounded like a week.
The way's me and Drew.
Yeah, Drew and I are taking the lead on this.
It still blows my mind how this is so complicated.
You're going to get through it.
I think you're actually going to enjoy it.
Normally when we do these things and we make Ryan do stuff,
if you read the text machine,
there's like half the people are saying, you know, go for it.
And then half the people are like, Matt,
why don't you and Drew ever do any challenges?
You always make Ryan do this, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah.
On this one, it's like 98%.
What is wrong with Ryan?
Why does he not want, you get free food for a week.
You get to eat.
I'm going to send you to play.
I'm not going to send you to dumps.
I'm going to send you a nice place.
They're going to get advertising.
So people don't understand this one, Drew, why this would be so hard.
Yeah, and I genuinely think he's going to get there and say,
I could have been doing this all along.
Exactly.
Everybody needs a little me time every once in a while.
Like you said yesterday, being lonely all the time, that's not healthy.
But every once in a while, you need to just take a deep breath and have a little quiet time,
have a little meal.
And I think you're going to enjoy it.
This is exciting.
I talked to my brother last night, he travels a lot, so he has to eat a lot by himself.
He was giving me some pointers, some advice.
What was the love you're getting coaching?
What are the pointers?
He said, get you a table right in front of a big screen TV,
and he said, you won't even notice the fact you're by yourself.
If you're watching a game, watching the movie.
Well, first of all, I mean, you're going to a restaurant.
Not all of them have a big screen TV.
Like, this is not your living.
That's why I was going to pick.
I didn't know you and Drew were going to pick for me.
We're going to pick.
Actually, you're kind of dressed up today for you.
We got that media basketball practice.
So you decided to wear a shirt with sleeves.
Yeah, I couldn't wear, you know, slobby clothes.
Slobby's not a word.
Yeah.
So, well, you look, you look good.
When was your last press conference?
You're going to ask a question?
You're going to get back into reporter mode?
Yeah, it's a good point.
Are you going to ask a question?
Scoop.
Scoop Limmon, WLAX-16?
I can't remember the last time I went to a press conference as a member of the media where I'll ask a question.
Did you even go to a Cal one?
You've been to some NCAA tournament ones.
I didn't ask a question.
When's the last time you asked a question?
Tubby, so is Robbie going to get in the game tonight?
Maybe you don't think you ask Cal any questions?
Oh, no, I didn't. Absolutely not.
All right? So he has to ask a question, right?
Like you need to ask a question today. You're a little rusty.
And you used to work with him. He'll appreciate it.
He likes you. It'll be, it'll been 17 years. So will you ask a question?
I'll work on it.
No, no, no. Will you ask a question? This is going to be great. This is a great chance.
You can be the voice of the fans.
Coach Pope, do you ever go out and eat by yourself?
No, that's not a good question either.
I want you to, I'll tell you what. Can we ask the fans if they, what question you should act?
Perfect.
772 74525.
I like this.
How are you going to introduce yourself?
Coach, hey, Ryan Lemon, remember we used to work together, hang out and drink beers together.
No, stop the jokes.
How are you going to introduce yourself?
I say, hey, coach, Ryan Lemon, KSR.
Okay, there you go.
Boom.
I like it.
When Culler asked the question at the big press conference and Pope recognize him from your 18 days, that's now his intro.
I'm just saying it was like a big moment for him.
He's going to know him.
Mark really likes him.
Like, because you all legitimately did work together.
Yeah, when you interviewed Coach Pope in that room over the craft center,
we talked for a little bit, you know, talk about old times and kind of hunting.
But remember the first thing he said,
I'm excited you to ask a question.
The first thing he said to me goes, I'm just glad you have your shirt on.
It's like, that's what he knows me for.
The idiot that takes his shirt off.
Well, I'm looking for, today will be fun watching you ask the question.
Are they going to stream that press conference?
People can watch Ryan in reporter mode.
I don't know if they've been streaming them this year.
You know, there's apps and.
different things. So I don't know.
They normally do stream them, but I don't know if they're doing it this year.
It's kind of new.
Well, all right, 859-280-2287, I right before the show got off the air with,
I was on with Greg McElroy and Cole Kublich.
I do that before every time Kentucky plays Alabama or Auburn.
They, of course, play Auburn Saturday, which is easy to forget,
because we haven't really talked about that game at all, even though it's arguably
Kentucky's best chance at an SEC game all year is.
is Saturday.
I think it's a loser leaves town matchup.
I think whoever loses this,
I think is fired.
Maybe both fired anyway.
But I think whoever loses this may not,
I don't know.
I mean, they may not make it out of the next week.
We'll see.
Do you think we have a chance of winning the game?
I actually thought we had a pretty good chance
until this last weekend and Auburn changed quarterbacks
and they won that game at Arkansas on the road, came from behind to do it.
So it makes me a little scared that maybe they have found their self a little bit.
They are, their offense, Cole said when I was on the air, is not anything like Tennessee's.
Basically, it's short passes, runs.
It's essentially, he said the problems Kentucky had against Tennessee, they won't have against Auburn.
So it's kind of a game.
They're not like a ground and pound, like they're not like Texas,
but it's probably a game that sets up for us a little bit better than Tennessee.
I mean, as much as I want to beat the falls, with that matchup,
Brad White just has no answer for Josh Hypo.
We've seen it five years now.
I kind of felt like never were going to be in that game.
But Auburn, you can, even though you're a 10-and-a-half-point underdog now.
Is that what it is?
Yeah.
Well, that's it.
Now, see, that feels high.
I thought Tennessee was way low.
Ten and a half feels high.
I thought the Tennessee line was a huge overreaction to Texas.
But anyway, they have a good running back.
He's, I think, second in the conference.
But, I mean, they're not putting up a lot of.
points. The games they've lost have been close, but they've all been pretty low scoring.
So I think you can be in it, especially with the way the offense just keeps taking a step forward each
game. I think you could make an argument that the Tennessee line was the worst line of the year.
I was shocked when I opened Draft Kings on Sunday and saw that it wasn't like 14.
We all said we don't bet on Kentucky, but I bet Tennessee just like everybody else did too.
You both did that? Yeah. It's too, too easy.
Ryan, how much did you bet? I bet a whole $5 on Tennessee. I think I won like $9.
Well, that's a big bet for you because you're usually like a 50 cent punt, man.
Yeah, $1, $2 bets.
I saw Nick Rouse dubbed this the Hot Seat Bowl.
Like you said, loser Lees Town.
Yeah, loser leaves town is a better name than the Hot Seat Bowl.
I think we can win.
Yesterday I was out and I was asked by someone, Matt,
what percentage of the fan base do you think wants a change to be made?
And it's a good question.
What percentage of the, well, let's, I mean, we've got some folks here.
I promise I won't take your picture.
How many of you, raise your hand, would like to see a change made?
So you two would not.
You two would like to see Stoops be the coach here next year.
Give him another chance.
Okay, so that would mean if you were to just use this place, it would probably be, you know, 80% of the fan base.
Now, these are two very sweet ladies.
We've seen them over the years.
that they might be a little nicer than the average UK fan.
I don't think they had the brown bag over their head or ever would.
Ma'am, you didn't have a brown bag over your head.
Okay.
But you know what?
You could almost make an argument.
They're Mitch Barnhart.
Mitch Barnhart's the sweet old lady sitting in a corner.
You're saying Mitch Barnhart's a sweet old lady?
I think he might be.
First of all, how are you going to look at these women and combs old?
Grandma.
Sweet old, sweet grandma.
Go in the wrong direction.
Yeah, that's, why not just say these.
sweet ladies, right? We don't know that they're grandmas. Yes, we don't know their grandmas.
Do you just find a way, don't you? But you think this is Mitch Barnard's constituents.
I think Mitch Barnhart, I don't know this. I'm just saying I think he's the type of guy that is going
to give Mark Stoops every single possible chance to pull this out. All right, so this room is 80%.
What do you think the fan base as a whole is, Drew? I was going to say I don't know a person that
once and back until these two beautiful women here.
So I would have gone a lot higher probably in the 90% of it to be over.
Is there any chance, though, our view is skewed by the online fan base is much more,
just in general, is much more negative than the regular fan base.
I completely acknowledge that, especially I'm on KS board, you know, message boards just
naturally kind of lean that way.
I'm on that all day.
So, yeah, most of the people I'm interacting with are among the most unhappy right now.
But you'd still say 90.
You know, the post game show at the Tennessee game, the fans that called in weren't really mad or angry.
They sounded broken.
But I listened to half that.
None of those people probably would have voted to bring him back.
Agreed.
So, like, they weren't angry, but they were still like.
They're broken.
We need a change.
That's almost worse.
Yeah, we're at that point where we just don't have another choice.
On that, I noticed.
I even wrote a little bit of this on the website Saturday night.
After the Texas game, I was in the parking lot when people were leaving, and they're just mad, yelling.
bleep this, get them out of here.
Tennessee game, everybody was leaving early, just silent.
I think that's right.
Whatever.
Let's go home.
So Cole asked me, what's the moment that broke it for the fan base?
And it's an interesting question.
What is the moment that just made most fans go time to move on?
Is there a game?
What I said to him was I thought it slowly started happening last year during the season.
And then Vince was a big one, and then I thought Texas was the final straw.
Do you agree with that?
Yeah, and how you lost Texas.
I mean, Mitch Bart – Mitch Barnhart said on Wednesday of that week,
sometimes you work hard, you're a yard short.
He said that before the Texas game.
It's like he thought.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I think also the Texas game, a lot of people went in and think we're going to get killed.
They convinced themselves we could win, only to get hurt one last time
when they weren't going to let themselves get hurt again.
And I also don't think you can overlook the conglomeration of factors of Indiana, Vanderbilt Good, Louisville rising,
Liam Cohen's coaching with the Jaguars.
We got all these dudes.
I mean, I saw Carrington Valentine was making big plays the other night for the Packers.
Like, we got all these guys succeeding.
You're like, why haven't we won more?
What about you?
What do you think was the moment?
I'm kind of with you.
You know, since the season, that last game against Louisville, they just got in bare.
And they kind of quit.
That's a big one, too.
I think getting embarrassed by Louisville and people quit.
And I think that's a big one.
And then immediately, you know, Dane left, Beryon left.
He gave Wolford another contract, Vince left.
But man, when they're first and goal from the three with a chance to beat Texas
and you can't punch it in from there, that's one I think it was over for me.
Yeah.
And I don't mean to beat the dead PR horse, but a lot of people that were on the fence,
just your quiet spring and summer did not help keep anybody on board.
I agree.
I mean, I, like, it's almost like, well, if you're not interested in you,
I think they made the one.
I think whatever decision you could make in the last year and a half, they've made the wrong one.
All right.
So, I mean, I'm serious.
You know, sometimes you just like, there was an old skit on Saturday Night Live, bad, bad idea jeans.
Like you put them on in every single decision you make is bad.
I think the football programs had bad idea jeans on for the last year.
What?
I haven't seen it skip, but that's kind of funny.
It is.
I look it up.
It's called bad idea jeans.
That idea, Gene.
All right, so this restaurant is 80% go.
What do you think it's going to be on your?
Well, let's do the text machine.
I'm going to give you all.
You just, so here's the thing.
I don't want to write fire or not fire.
So write, yes, change needs to be made.
No, it doesn't.
Okay.
Just yes or no.
And let's do a text machine.
This will be more positive than like message boards,
Twitters are.
But what is it?
Yes, no. Let's do that and we'll see what it is. What do you think it's going to be?
I think it's going to be up there 80, 90 percent.
All right, we'll find out. We'll take a break.
859-280, 2287. We're going to talk about a lot of the Brian Kelly situation affects us, but it's also crazy.
As the stories come out about what really happened. By the way, that's going to happen here too.
If it happened, what happened? What really happened? Those are coming.
We'll take a break. We'll be right back. KS.R.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.

This Isaiah Thomas.

cast point game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard you.
really is random.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash will get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
You figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS. Bar. Dollar Wings, try the burgers. Tater kegs.
Now our third biggest seller, I'm a huge tater keg at.
They're awesome.
The problem is when I order them during the pregame show, Ryan sneaks and eats half of them when I'm not looking.
He literally waits until I turn my head and then grabs one, and I'll look, and he'll be like a little child with a big piece of food in his mouth.
Drew sees me, you get up and do your manager stuff, and I come sneak over there and eat a couple.
It's the Ryan Tex.
It's a ride tax.
Okay, first of all, I thought it would be a lot of yeses.
I did not think it would be this much.
As you scroll, it's just nothing but yes.
Look at this. Find me a no.
Wow.
I mean, that's.
I mean, find me a no.
Like, you two might be the only two in the entire fan.
No, there's one.
Okay, there's a no.
She said she's a season ticket holder since 75, so she's seen some bad football.
Literally, this is not an exaggeration.
I know we do these polls, and, like, I try to,
there probably has never been a question I've asked that's had more universal yes.
It's got to be 98%.
There's no, I mean, I'm sitting here looking at hundreds of yeses.
I think that's a fair indication of where our fan base is right now, though.
Yeah, but even I didn't, Roz, it was this.
What do you think Mitch's email looks like?
Okay, I mean, again, like, look at that.
I mean, this is crazy.
I almost want to, I almost want to get Mario just to film this.
I mean, I've never seen anything like that.
I've never asked anything on this show and seen a universal answer.
There's a no.
But I'm seeing like dozens of yeses before I come to a no.
Like, Mitch cannot bring him back.
You can't.
Like, this is, there's no question you can ask humanity and get this many yeses, right?
I was serious when I said I don't know a question you could ask the general public where you could get 98% yes.
I mean, there's not a question.
I can't think about a poll.
What is a poll you could take in America that would get 98% yes?
Do you need air to breathe?
No, there are 3% of Americans that would say no.
They did their own research.
I think that could go all day and it wouldn't change.
I think they're going to get yes is yes all day long if people listen to the podcast.
When I did this with Cal, just to give an example, when I did this with Cal after the Oakland game,
but before he left for Arkansas, it was probably 75, 80 percent yes.
But there was a definite, even listeners of this show, there was a definite 20 to 25 percent Cal group.
And in the fan bases as a whole, there might have even been more because some of his strong supporters didn't like me because I was doing.
But this, I mean, this is the, I'm really shocked.
I thought it was going to be 85.
98, I would have never played.
I always say football is harder because there's not an obvious upset.
Like, you don't get a tournament situation.
You kind of have to form your own opinion on your record.
Yeah.
But when you've lost 11 straight at home against teams that matter,
that's about as close you can get to one of those upsets you shouldn't have.
I don't think the national media realizes this, right?
I don't think they get it.
Like when I said on McElroy and Coles Show, I said, yeah, he's probably not going to be the coach.
McElroy was like, really?
Is that?
I mean, like, I don't think they get it.
I don't think the rest of the country realizes we feel like this.
Like I said, the apathy has been growing for a couple years,
and it is just at its all-time high right now.
Is there anything at all that would change your mind this weekend other than a win?
See, here's what I think said.
I think they could win and go to a bowl, and this number would still be high.
I don't think it would be 100, I don't think it would be 97%, but it would still be high.
So that's a problem.
I want to note something here, because this is, I think, is kind of cool.
First of all, your birthday today, right?
Ms. Jennifer Cantor.
Your Jennifer's birthday.
How old are you?
49.
Happy birthday.
Second.
So we have a one of my friends that here works next door, but he's helped us for a long time.
He works at the Kilt next door.
He had said, you know, it was his parents' birthday.
and they're Cubs fans, whatever.
So I gave him tickets to Reds and Cubs.
He said he had a present for me to thank me.
This is like an actual amazingly thoughtful present.
I thought he, who knew, I don't know what I thought he'd get me.
But he got me a bag of stuff that is survival gear.
He said he heard that I didn't know how, that I didn't know how to do anything.
Fair.
Which, by the way, is correct.
And it has like a flashlight.
Okay.
It has like a radio, right?
It has a survival bag.
It has a book called Survival Handbook.
It even has this thing, which he said is like a filter system.
So if I needed water, I could drink out of a lake and it would filter.
Wow.
Wow.
So I think Apocalypse comes.
You are ready.
So I think because of CB, I could survive in something.
Nice.
I mean, I'd have to learn how to use all this stuff, but I have a book now.
That's very thoughtful of CV.
It's actually extremely thoughtful.
And an Atlas.
Oh, wow.
He knows how to get to your heart.
You know how much I love Atlas.
Yes.
And they still make them.
It says 2026.
That's a new Atlas.
So, Mario, you've never been on Atlas trip with me.
As we travel the country in our southern, southeastern part of the United States,
I have an Atlas to help us get around.
I'll never forget.
I think we were in like New Mexico somewhere,
and we didn't have good cell signal.
And what were we able to do?
You got your Atlas out of the back of the car,
opened it up, and got us out of where we were going.
I love Atlas's because here's the thing about Atlas.
Don't let all these people poo-poo atlases.
It gives you a big perspective of where things are.
See, on your phone, you can only see, like,
and you've got a scan-ath, scan in.
And on this, I can kind of look and go,
oh, we could go this way, or we could go this way.
gives you a lot bigger picture as to what's happening.
Does the new one have traffic updates to 2020?
It doesn't have traffic updates, but you know what?
Traffic is up.
In survival mode, we're just trying to survive.
Yeah, traffic's subjective.
And we can pull over and drink out of the lake.
Look, it's a water filter straw.
Apparently, if you drink out of this, it filters out all the stuff of...
I'm going to have to read, but as I understand it, I can just go to the lake with a straw
start drinking and all the bad stuff is gone.
You're all set.
Part of me does wonder, does CB know that something's coming?
Well, he's he's preparing.
He listens to a lot of those podcasts.
So I'm sure that's, you know, that might be part of it.
Brian Kelly gets fired at LSU,
and now the last week has just been a not, like, stories trashing him.
One player said he's the least likable person anyone has ever met.
There's a story that came out that he,
knew he wasn't getting along well with the fans, so he went to an image consultant in D.C.
to work on his image.
Let me just say, if you're having trouble relating to people in Louisiana, don't go to D.C.
Go to somebody in Louisiana.
There are all these.
Turns out when Kairn Lacey died, he didn't even reach out to the family, which is probably
a mistake.
Like, just all of this stuff with Brian Kelly, and now a lot of LSU fans, they want John
some roll. So now we have two big fan
bases, Auburn and LSU that kind of want
some raw. Hard to see him
turning both those down to come here.
He's the betting favorite, if you follow that,
to have that job. But Kelly, that was
just insane. He was berating his
coaches in the last game, knowing he was on camera
so it kind of intentionally puts it
on them, gives him a little bit of an out.
And apparently the athlete director said,
hey, we want you to make a change the play call
and he just went, no.
And so, then he got fired.
Seems like not a fun. Remember, he had some
Stuff in Notre Dame, too.
It wasn't like he was innocent there.
We'll take a break.
Be right back. KSR.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio 859-2802287.
Got big news.
We're back to plastic straws here at KS bar.
Breaking news.
Yes.
Sorry to the turtles.
I love you in theory, but we're back to the plastic straws
because we got rid of the paper.
The Texas game took them out, and now we have plastic ones.
I love turtles, too.
I wish them the best, but this is America and we drink from plastic.
We do do that.
One person writes, Matt, I love you, but even with that survival kit, you'll still be one of the first ones to die in apocalypse.
That's not very nice.
We hold out small hope for you to survive?
You don't need to.
One person says, Matt, it's too bad.
Survival kits can be buried under pickles and keys to the cities never to be seen again.
Now, that's true.
I'm getting a new car in the next few weeks, I think.
Oh, are you?
So, like, the car that I have with all that stuff.
I might just leave it somewhere just so I don't have to deal with it.
You know what I mean miles?
That car has under, by the way?
Goodness.
Like, seriously, I think this is pretty amazing.
Over 200,000?
238,000 miles are on that Lexington.
For how many years?
And two oil changes.
I've increased the oil changes a little bit.
And that's the two.
Yeah, we're up to four.
I don't know.
I'm not sure.
I don't, it's been a lot of years.
But you got to give the Lexus's credit to go 238.
thousand miles not with elite caretaking i can i will acknowledge is a pretty impressive feat i think you
should park it right next to the the oldsmobile in the backyard and let it be a music video in 30 years
stop about that that that car is in immaculate change but just start the start the museum what were you
saying i remember you got that car when your previous car broke down on the mountain parkway going to
that show in babyville yeah that was the cataly it didn't last as well the lexas held up a lot
better than the cataly it's been a long time yeah a 59-28027 who's up
Got Richard up first.
Richard, go ahead, Richard.
To lose all these sophomores, and that seems to be the...
You could.
You could, Richard.
But I would say, yes.
Are there going to be people on the team that you would lose if he leaves?
Certainly.
However, there are going to be people that you'll lose even if he stays.
And in the transfer portal era, replacing players is easier than it's ever been, you know, if somebody leaves.
The thing is, forward to this basketball in 1995, I mean, 1975.
You see what happened with that.
Yeah, I mean, let's slow down.
Okay, let's slow down saying, I mean, I think you could say this is the deepest team.
I do think, and I appreciate the call, as good as I think this team's going to be this year.
And we do have a lot of guys.
The difference between this team and even like 2015, 2012, 2012, 2010,
go 96, whatever, is, I don't know that we have, until we see what quaintance is,
I don't know that we have like elite star power.
I think we have a lot of great college players.
I think this could be a team that is a version, let's say, Drew, of the 2003 team,
where Kentucky went eight or nine deep with a lot of really good players,
but maybe no star.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
I mean, Keith Bogans was what, second team All-American, maybe that's O.A., you know, something like that.
But there wasn't – but I don't want to say this in 96.
I mean, we produced top pros in 96.
2015 is going to have at least two Hall of Famers on that team.
So that's a little different.
I mean, Josh Hopkins asks us on Monday, will anyone start in the NBA?
Quaintance will leave aside because he could be that.
But otherwise, I don't think anybody would when at least 96 had several guys that had long NBA careers with a couple starters.
Now, don't get me, this is a final four level team.
I mean, there are lots of people that are now putting this team as a final four team.
I'm one of them.
They're good enough to go to the final four.
But I also want everybody to slow down about the talent.
You know, even though it made people mad all year last year, I said all year, there's no NBA players on this team.
And right now, there's no NBA player.
Kobe Bray, he might be on the Sun's roster, but he's not playing.
And all the other guys are not in the NBA.
Like that's, we just need to know that.
Now, this team, I think, has NBA dudes.
But I don't want to sit here and say this is like the 25th, you know,
96 team.
It's not that yet, Ryan.
You've talked about your theory, and I think you and Jay Billis said you've got to have three stars to win it.
I think they have two.
I think this, my view is Jalen Lowe and Otega O'Wayor stars.
Not NBA stars, but they're college stars.
If Quaintance gets here, he could be the third.
If he doesn't, then I just want to see one of these other guys become the third,
Ryan.
The good thing is I think we have a lot of options for who that third guy could be.
I don't you.
Who's the most likely candidate to step up?
Okay, let's say Quaintiff didn't play.
Who would be the most likely candidate?
You're going to say Colin Chandler.
I won't say Colin Chandler just to not be repetitive over here.
I still think there's a world where we have a Yelovich breakout.
Oh, you think it could be Yenler?
Yellovich.
Yep.
Interesting.
Now, you would not have been one of my top choices, but okay, what about you?
I fell in love with Denzo Aberdeen.
He's a dog, man.
He's just going to be our lockdown defender guy, and I think he could be maybe that third
one emerging.
Yeah, I don't know that.
I think Quaintain's has got to be the third one, but I think you have a lot of, like,
fourth ones, you know, like a Diabate could be a fourth one.
Yeah.
I mean, depending what Jasper turns into.
Well, see, now, Jasper could be the third one.
He's got that talent.
We only have a very small sample size, but it was a fun sample last Friday.
But to me, when you're sitting there and going, okay, Cam Williams, you're the 11th man.
And he's on the draft boards.
Then I'm not, I just think it's a different kind of thing.
It reminds me of 03 in the sense, you know, think about 03.
Eric Daniels, Gerald Fitch, Chuck Hayes.
I know Chuck played in the NBA, but he was kind of a role.
player for many years.
Cliff Hawkins.
That's the kind of guys I feel like we're loaded up on this year.
Do you agree?
Yeah, very just strong, smart basketball players that can go out and win you a lot of
college games.
Marquis Estel was one of those.
Yeah.
That's how, this team played so together against one game.
I'm trying to remind myself, but we're going to play tomorrow night.
By the way, play tomorrow night.
Yeah.
I mean, we're playing tomorrow night again.
Georgestown. We're playing a good team
tomorrow night. You know, and we didn't even shoot the ball
very well from three. What were they, nine of
29? That's another thing, man. What if we
start shooting the ball? Like, what if that
nine of 29 was
12 or 13 of
29, which is like the percentage Pope
wants to shoot? You add 12
points. We win that game by 23.
I mean, you know, then you're
starting to go, hummody do.
I was humming you doing all night Friday.
We keep naming individual players,
but I was most impressed of just how
advanced they were as a team on October, whatever that was.
Purdue's very experienced.
They have two of the best players in the country.
One's a consensus is All-American.
One might even be on some pre-season lists.
And the way they were guarding them,
you just don't see that, or we haven't in Lexington in a long time,
to be that far along in your system,
both offense and defense,
rotating in and out pieces in mid-October.
And I've watched a lot of these other teams play their preseason games.
I watched Duke, Tennessee.
I watched Louisville, Kansas.
I watched a little bit of Arkansas, Memphis.
These other teams look a lot more disjointed than we do.
I mean, these other teams don't look.
I'm not saying they don't look good.
Like, Cameron Boozer looks like a star.
You know, Darren Peterson looks like a star.
Actually, Arkansas looked pretty good.
But they didn't look like we did.
Like, we looked better than all of them.
Now, I know it's one game.
I get it.
But I'm not saying.
I'm just saying.
Who's up next?
Super Dave is up next.
Super Dave.
How are you?
Hey guys, I hope you all are doing well today.
Doing good.
I got a couple things.
That's great.
I got a couple of things about football.
The guy, Stoop's over there on the sideline.
If you watch him now, that guy that refs that's over there with him,
I would demand double pay because he is wearing the referee out.
I mean, Stoop stays on the referee.
Now, part of that is that.
They only show him stoop's during the game when he's yelling at the referee,
but he does give the referee an earful.
Yeah, and I mean, it's just, I mean, I think he's more on the referee than he is
into the game sometimes.
And I mean, I'm not saying all the time, but I mean, I was basically checked out last
year.
You know, I'm not a season ticket holder or anything, but I went watching play South Carolina
because I had that opportunity.
I was real excited about it.
and I mean they just laid an egg and I mean
Yeah they did
This happened too much
And it's just
It's just to a point where
I mean I also heard that
If he got if he lasts through the year
His buyout is only 17 million
Is that true?
Yeah that's not true no it goes down
I appreciate the call his his buyout does go down
I want to say from 38 maybe to 29
or something but it's not until
What's the date
I need to look
But it doesn't it doesn't change the
overall math a whole lot.
Maybe it's 38 to 31, I can't remember, but it's not 17.
And I figure at this point where numbers don't matter, you just can't.
If he doesn't turn it on, and I still don't know he can have any impressive wins at this point, it's, it just needs to end.
I mean, if you're getting, I mean, from now on, I'll remember looking at that text machine.
Because that, that's, that is, I don't mean to just keep harping on it, but that was a
amazing amount of votes.
Overwhelming.
overwhelming for one thing.
By the way, UK has put on sale, Ryan, for big spenders like you.
Yeah.
There are a handful of games this year where you can buy seats with your feet on the floor.
The first four rows are for sale for a handful of games.
They just went on sale this morning.
I think you'd want that this year.
You don't want to be a part of this excitement that's building for this basketball team.
But, I mean, you want to spend that kind of money?
You know, I don't think my $1.25, I got in my wallet right now.
to cover that.
But you won the bet the other day, so you could use that.
That's true.
I did win $9 on Draft Kings.
Thank you, Draft Kings.
I wonder what that cost.
What do you think it costs to sit the first four rows, but they're doing it for a handful.
Normally, you can't even buy those.
So, like, it is kind of for people who could afford it a cool thing.
Yeah.
How much you think it is?
I guess it's not reselling.
It's coming straight from UK, so they can't rob you too much, but it'll still be high.
I'll say $1,500.
That's exactly what I was going to say, exactly.
$1,500?
Yeah.
That's higher than I would have thought.
Sit down there by the hammer.
I'm just thinking it's something like you said,
you've never even been able to have access to buy.
No, they normally don't sell them.
I don't know how they're doing it this year,
but I guess they are.
I guess when you've got to raise money, you do it.

Text machine 772-7-7-4.
We're opening here in 10 minutes.
Come on out and join us.
Let's talk for a second about Georgetown that we play tomorrow.
You know, UK has not, have we played Georgetown since 84?
Is that the last time we played them?
I was actually going to work on my Georgetown history post today, but I can pull up the all-time series.
I can't remember a recent game since I've been around.
84 is a very painful game for people a little bit older than me.
I don't really remember it.
But 84, we played them in the final four in Seattle.
What did we shoot in the second half?
It was like some crazy low number.
Like 3 of 29 or something.
3 of 33.
3 of 33.
And we ended up losing in Seattle, I believe.
Is that right?
Yeah.
I remember watching that game as a kid and just it became such a story.
They had these wide open shots and the ball just would not go in the basket.
It was against Patrick Ewing and all those guys, right?
James Blackman, I know, was on that Kentucky team, because he was from Indiana.
I was watching him, and they just couldn't score, man.
Kenny Walker.
Sam Bowie had 10 points.
That was the leading score.
It's not strong in a tournament game.
But I don't think we've played them since then, have we?
We've played them twice.
That game, and in 1922, we lost 28, 23, so we've never beaten Georgetown, ever.
Oh, and 2.
Really?
Never beaten Georgetown.
I mean, Basil Hayden scored eight in that game.
Basil Hayden?
Yep.
Like the bourbon?
Yep, he had eight points.
He was Kentucky's first All-American.
But Johnny Flavin, man, he was on fire for Georgetown 12, 28, 23.
It's hard to stop Johnny Flavon.
At Ryan Gymnasium, wherever that is.
All right, so what would you say five most famous Georgetown players?
Ewing, Morning, Iverson, Othella Harrington.
Oh, good one.
And Fred Brown.
Reggie Lewis.
Who's the guy?
Reggie Lewis played there?
No, he was Providence.
He was Providence?
I think so.
Now, Fred Brown was the guy that threw the ball to the North Carolina player,
where they lost the ends up crying in John Thompson's.
They just had a high draft pick, like, in the last 10 years.
Yeah, I was going to say.
Otto Porter, Jr.
Otto Porter, okay.
But, I mean, not too many schools have Ewing Morning Iverson.
That's a pretty big, that's a pretty good group.
Did Matumbo go there?
Matumbo, of course.
How did I forget Matumbo?
Yeah, that's a big Mount Rushmore.
It is.
Those four would be a heck of a Mount Rushmore.
And for the longest time, they were kind of the cool school.
Overson helped with that.
They wore the long shorts.
Although people hated them.
I mean, they were a very good.
Yeah, they're like a villain team, but they had a little bit of swag.
You get old UK fans, some of whom probably passed.
And you were to say, who do you hate?
Like Georgetown, John Thompson, they just, they could, with his towel.
People just did not like them.
But I was a big John Thompson fan.
I like John Thompson.
They have not been good in a long, long time.
They're missing all their seven-footers.
We keep going.
Roy Hibbert?
Yeah, boy, you.
They're just full of centers.
They had a big guy.
So their coach now is Ed Cooley.
They spent a lot of money to bring him from Providence.
He hasn't had a lot of success.
What are you looking for tomorrow, Ryan?
I mean, Mark Pope says we're playing to win,
but we also want to get some stuff ready
for the season. The season starts next week, folks, like for real. I don't know if, I mean,
I don't think I process that the season starts next week. We're now less than week away because
it's Tuesday, right? Yeah. Tuesday. Tuesday. I just want to see him and just piggyback what we saw
against Purdue. Probably shoot, I'd like to see him maybe shoot the ball a little better if there's
something I'd one of them. Is there anybody you'd like to see play a little better? I'd like to see,
I'd like to see a little more from Cam Williams. That's probably my thing that I'd like to see
a little more because really in everything I've seen, he hasn't been,
he wasn't great at the pro day, wasn't great, wasn't great,
and I want to see him do what I think, I hope he could do.
I agree.
He's the one I've wondered about since the summer when you're here in practice.
His name didn't come up much, a lot of potential.
And then I think you even ask who I'm watching the blue white game.
He was my answer.
It's just so far been a very quiet first debut a few weeks for him,
but we know he has it.
We just need him to turn it on.
I think in the front court I'd like to see Brandon Gairs from,
play better.
You know, Malachi kind of really.
Yeah, I mean, Brady Garrison's been interesting because he's another one that really we
haven't talked a lot about, whether it was Pro Day or his, Brandon Garrison's kind of
been really quiet, but he's still starting, so I want to see him too as well.
He had a moment against Purdue.
I was sitting in the end zone facing him.
I could see his eyes, and he was dialing up BG time.
I don't know if you'll remember.
He brought it up the court.
He almost took a three in transition, but you could just tell.
He wanted to call his own number.
I don't know if other people are like this.
Every time he brings it up to court, I'm like,
give it up, give it up, give it up,
fast, fast, fast, fast, fast.
But I can see it.
He thought he was on the Ann one tour.
I really am.
I'm very much asking him to pass.
What about you?
You got a guy you're going to.
Well, for me, it's King Williams, but I also, you know,
I just, I have to tell you, I just enjoy watching them, period.
I just think they're fun to watch.
They're exciting, you know.
I'm excited to be here for,
the basketball pregame show.
I wasn't here for Purdue,
so I'm excited to be around fans in a basketball environment.
This is going to be a fun year.
This is going to be fun.
This is going to be the most fun basketball years.
You know, the Dillingham read had moments of fun,
but there was a lot of like, why are we losing these games?
But then besides that, we really haven't had a lot of fun,
like just pure fun since before.
I mean, since before COVID.
Last year was fun, but you knew there was a ceiling.
Right.
And you got to SEC and started taking some loss.
This is going to be fun this year.
This is going to be fun, exciting.
Every game, people, I think it's going to build all year.
I think it's going to build, and all year people can get more and more excited as the year goes on.
And I'm already thinking about the SEC tournament.
It's going to be, this is going to be a blast.
So I just want to enjoy it while it's going on
Because I think it's going to be I think this is going to be a great year
I think it's going to be a big few months by the way just for Kentucky fans
Because we have a coaching search
You know people get into that
December
December is going to be one of the more exciting decimbers
If you look at who we play
And what's going to be going on with football
Like this is going to be an exciting December coming up
We're less than two weeks from the Louisville game
That's crazy
Wow
I don't love it
that spot, but it's here.
It's 13 days away.
We'll take a break.
