Starting point is 00:03:15 I am on my way to Connecticut, where I will be for the next couple of days, visiting the good folks at ESPN. Ryan and Drew are back in Lexington. Shannon is in Louisville. And guys, basketball season, for the University of Kentucky starts tonight. Are you ready for it?
Starting point is 00:03:34 Let's go. I'm ready. Kind of snuck up on me that all of a sudden this is the real season and starts tonight. Where'd that come from? Yeah, it started last night with a ton of games for everyone but us. But we take the court tonight. And this team that we've been very excited about is ready to rock. Drew, I was excited going into the year.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I was Uber excited after we beat Purdue. then I got deflated a little bit after Georgetown, but now I think I am where I was a lot of the summer, which is really looking forward to getting this group playing. I had a little jealousy last night watching the other teams, to be honest. I'm glad we waited for our own night, but it was very exciting watching all of college basketball last night, and then here in Lexington, I mean,
Starting point is 00:04:21 the BB and United Tip-Off Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism tipping off. I just can't wait to get in the building for it to actually matter. remind me who the field is for this for this big BBN United it's Nichols us Valpo is that right Valparaiso is in it then we got a little Eastern Illinois
Starting point is 00:04:40 Oh Eastern Illinois is the other one okay Later today on KSR I'm not sure the exact time It's going up but I power rank the teams And have a bracketology for what you can expect In the BBM United tip off class I hope we're the one seat I like her chances of that To spoiler we are the ones Wow
Starting point is 00:04:55 But I did a lot of research How did you power rank the teams when you were comparing Eastern Illinois Val Poet Nichols? How did you decide who was what? Well, for drama, I'll work backwards. Let's start fourth in last place, Eastern Illinois. I have them ranked 33rd out of 365 teams in Ken Palm. Did not have a good season last year. However, they have the nation's second longest winning streak.
Starting point is 00:05:22 They won four games, then didn't make their conference tournament. So they are hot coming in. They didn't make their conference tournament. You don't hear about that. But they won four games to end the year. So they're behind Florida and Chattanooga, which won the NIT for the longest win streak in the nation. How about that? Good little nugget there.
Starting point is 00:05:41 That's interesting. All right. Number three, Valparaiso. Hang on. Hang on just a second. That's third longest win streak in the country. Yes. Other than that, not very good.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Okay. What's number three? Valpo. Some of you all might have thought have been Nichols there? No. It's Valpo. former Illinois player Roger Powell Jr. is their head coach.
Starting point is 00:06:01 He was a Vandy assistant and a Gonzaga consistent. 13 newcomers. They have lots of height, though. They have seven players that are six, nine or taller. But I have them at number two with a projected record of one and two in the BB. How are we old enough that Roger Powell Jr. is a head coach? Didn't he just play?
Starting point is 00:06:20 Like, he didn't play that long ago, did he? Roger Powell Jr., that is not a name from like the archives. He's got to be in his early 30s, right? He has a gray beard. I didn't get his exact age. But yeah, I mean, that's his name. Okay. So you're arguing then that tonight's game against Nichols is for the championship of the BBN Classic.
Starting point is 00:06:44 Like this is probably the two best teams getting each other the first round. I don't want to call out the committee, which is, I guess, Kentucky Tourism or BBN United. I don't know which one. It's Kentucky Tourism. What jerks at Kentucky tourism. I do feel like we had some bad seating here getting this matchup first. I don't think they scouted the field as well. They should have.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Nichols, youngest coach in college basketball, 30 years old, 2.20 win seasons. This is his third year. They are ranked 225 in Ken Palm. Well, you know, there's this movement. There's this movement that has started coming with college basketball in terms of scheduling. where I've heard a lot of coaches complain about it, especially the mid-majors, that teams are only now scheduling really good non-conference games or really bad teams. There's like no in-between.
Starting point is 00:07:40 You remember, I actually think Cal kind of took the philosophy of he didn't like to schedule a ton of great teams, but he liked to schedule teams that could win their conference. Now, for whatever reason, and I'm not sure if it's the change in the RPI or net, I'm not sure why they're doing it, but they're doing these extremes where you play really bad teams and good teams. And it looks like, if you look at our schedule, Ryan, that's kind of what we did this year. Yeah, Cald definitely took it, I think, too far to the extreme playing the not competitive games all in the non-conversies. No, no, he didn't do that, actually, to his credit. To his credit, that's not what he did.
Starting point is 00:08:15 He would go play teams that could win their conference. So he would not, we would usually play one game a year against one of those historically black colleges that were at the bottom. but he actually, to his credit, his view always was, I want to play teams from lower conferences that can win their conference because maybe they'll make the tournament and we'll get credit for a win by the committee. Now I think that, which that was Tubby Smith's philosophy. Get people in the hundreds in the RPIs. It seems like coaches and Mark Pope is doing this too
Starting point is 00:08:46 are now going the other way, which is saying take all the bat, the worst of the worst teams and then play them. I think that actually makes sense because you basically have no chance. I mean, you do have a chance of losing, but very, very slim chance of losing. And then if you lose the games against the good teams, it really doesn't hurt you that much. So I think that makes more sense to do it. You could see it last night, Ryan, and who teams were playing. All right.
Starting point is 00:09:07 So if you were to look and see all the teams who everybody was playing, most of the power 25, the top 25, were playing awful teams. And then your mid-majors that were used to, some of them were having to play teams that, like, nobody's ever heard of. Like, for instance, Moorhead last night, Ryan, played Midway. Did you see that? I did see that. And almost lost, by the way. Midway was ahead in the second half of that game. Well, you probably don't even know Midway's got a team.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Boise State, who has been in the tournament a lot of the last few years, they lost to a team called like Hawaii Pacific Lutheran, which is a division two team. So I just think it's interesting how, it's interesting how the scheduling change and I think we're going to see over the years, I think they're going to expand the non-conference. So in a few years we're going to be playing probably 35 games instead of 31,
Starting point is 00:10:03 and we'll probably add two more really good teams, and then Ryan will be playing more teams like the ones here in the BBN classic. So what do you prefer? Open it up like that, or like what Florida played Arizona last night, came out of the gate, playing a, you know, a top team. Which do you prefer? I like having
Starting point is 00:10:19 a, so for the good of Kentucky, I like having a couple games like this, so you get your feet under you. I think for the good of college basketball, Drew, I think they ought to do kind of what college football does, what the NBA does. You know, the NBA, the NFL, they try to pack big games into week one. I think college basketball should agree that they should have like the first night, whatever night they choose to be the first night, you have like a bunch of power matchups
Starting point is 00:10:49 to get people into college basketball. I mean, they had Florida, Arizona last night, but there was really no other. game that was compelling. I feel like they should do more of those. I agree. Florida, Arizona was a huge game. I guess if you're interested in what BYU you could look like, that was exciting.
Starting point is 00:11:05 But otherwise, a lot of lopsided matchups. Even though they turned out to be close games, you didn't get a lot of good head-to-heads on the schedule. But Florida versus Arizona, that was a good night-one game. I wish they'd do more like that. Yeah, well, we'll talk a little bit more about that later. So what I wanted to ask you is with this game starting night, by the way, games at 7 o'clock, it is on the
Starting point is 00:11:23 computer. So Shannon has officially volunteered. He will answer all your calls about how to get, how to answer, how to get on the computer. So if you do not know how to find the game tonight, especially if you have YouTube TV, that's an added wrinkle. You are allowed to call. Shannon will be at the help desk all afternoon as telling people how to get it on their phone. I can answer all those right now. All right. How would you answer it? Because I don't know if people realize this, but there's always someone streaming the game on regular YouTube. So if you just go to YouTube and you type in Kentucky versus whoever they're playing that night, there's always a stream of the game. Is that true? Yes. Every game? Yes. There's always a stream on YouTube. You go, I guarantee
Starting point is 00:12:08 you tonight. You go on YouTube, regular YouTube, type in Kentucky versus Nichols. There's going to be somebody streaming the game there. But isn't that illegal? That's not for me to decide, but it's on YouTube. But I mean, you're participating in what is clearly illegal activity. I'm on YouTube. YouTube is perfectly legal. But the stream is it. I'm not streaming it. Somebody else is streaming it. So you don't feel at all guilty? I'm watching somebody else commit a crime. I'm not committing the crime. I'm just watching them.
Starting point is 00:12:36 Oh, it's like it's a television show. Yeah. You're watching a person committing. Like, you weren't guilty when OJ was running from the cops. Exactly. You just were watching. That is a great point counselor. You know, Shannon's making a great point. You can't blame Shannon. Right. For this person.
Starting point is 00:12:52 So you're saying every game they have it on YouTube. Yes, and people are going to ask me, like, who is it? I don't know who the streamer is. Just, again, type Kentucky versus their opponent. It will be on there tonight. All right. Well, Ryan, is that what you're going to do? I'm going to try it.
Starting point is 00:13:06 I had to go to the old sling method last game. Buy a one-day subscription to Sling to watch the games. I'm going to try the YouTube version tonight. Did you already cancel it? It was just a one-day thing. You could buy it for one day. Oh, how much was it? like $7 I think
Starting point is 00:13:22 Oh okay So Ryan does the installment plan of cable Seven dollars a day for every time he wants to watch something Drew I understand that Feels like that would add up after a while But yeah are you going to pay $7 for different trial today How does this work? Well we're actually thinking about buying a week package
Starting point is 00:13:39 Which is like $14 But now you've already paid more than just the ESPN subscription Yeah Because the month like is like $45 But you just buy a week it's like $21 $14 I mean But ESP? in itself, I think already starting to add these up. Shannon, this is why people get in consumer debt.
Starting point is 00:13:56 We're listening to it live with Ryan Lemon. He didn't think that one through. Yeah, you've got to work the map out. So the game is on SEC Plus if you have it. Otherwise, apparently it's on YouTube. What is it you want to see tonight, Drew? What do you want to see, considering what we saw against Georgetown, considering that performance, and considering we might not have Lowe or Aberdeen,
Starting point is 00:14:19 I'm kind of thinking neither one of them plays, at least based on the comments by Pope last night. So you're going to have another situation without a point guard. What is it you want to see tonight? First of all, I have to correct myself. Florida lost last night. So Nichols, the win streak, or excuse me, Eastern Illinois, has now moved up a notch because Florida's winchial. So they're the second longest. That's right.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I didn't even consider last night's results. But tonight with Kentucky, you know, the guard situation, it's hard. As you said, we're not really sure we're going to look at. I'm not going to judge that too much with it being shaky right now, but they have to start shooting better, or I'm really going to get concerned about this team. They really didn't, or at least the shooting. They didn't shoot well.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Big Blue, Madness, if I recall, blue-white, either of the exhibitions, especially some of the guys that are expected to be the shooters. I need to see better shooting for three and at the free-throw line, too. There was a moment Thursday. They were 10 for 20 from the free-throw line. So that has to improve.
Starting point is 00:15:15 You hit it for me. Those are mine. I need to see them. I need to see him shoot the ball well. I mean, they have been, they have shot really badly. And on open shots. I mean, the thing is this group's getting open shots because they have so many guys who can get to the rim, draw defenders. But they're not making shots.
Starting point is 00:15:34 And I don't know if a Mark Pope's system. I don't know how it works if you don't make shots. So, Ryan, that's going to be what I'm looking at. What about you? Yeah, I think we had a couple guys maybe force some shots and a couple guys like Ken Williams that didn't take a shot when he had it. You saw him, you know, and there's still. Well, I'm glad he didn't take him. He was 0 for 5 when he did.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I haven't seen him. I mean, he hasn't made a shot that's mattered in a while. He's the guy we thought would be one of the best shooters on the team. He's had a hesitating way. He does not look comfortable shooting it right now. He doesn't look. Yeah, he does not look comfortable at all. So that's the big thing for me.
Starting point is 00:16:09 You know, this team, from what I understand, the little research I did, they're very athletic. That doesn't worry me a ton because they don't have the size. and physicality, Georgetown did. But they'll be athletic. So you're not going to get those points that we get sometimes just because we're so much more athletic than everybody. We'll probably get those against Valpo in eastern Illinois. But we're going to win, but I do need to see us shoot the ball a lot better.
Starting point is 00:16:35 8-59-28027. We're going to take your calls. We did not take any yesterday. I want you, feel free to call about the Stoop situation, the win against Auburn, or the game tonight. We got a lot of other things. And Shannon, I'm going to give some tickets away. I had somebody donate six tickets to the game,
Starting point is 00:16:52 two of which are like great seats. Oh. So we're going to give those away in the second hour. But we will take a break and be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.

Starting point is 00:18:52 Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets. meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee,
Starting point is 00:19:17 and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met, Levin, this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:19:41 Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my. life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout, Kate Martin, and rising hockey star Lela Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel like. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeke. The ability to show gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me.
Starting point is 00:20:36 And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world, Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Love it. Getting Buck Owens, putting the word nickels in it. This is why, Shannon, you're the best. Unfortunately, for the people on the podcast, they can't hear this anymore. They can't hear your brilliance. Only half of our audience can hear your brilliance. Which makes me sad. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:21 I don't know that we're ever going to get that figured out where we can get music and podcast. I mean, they're involved in something. I hope they do because it is a huge part of what makes this good. And I hate that you can't do it. This is a great pick. But you still send out the songs. I do. I do.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Yeah. Yeah. So you can just play it yourself if you want. All right. So I didn't know this. Here's a little information on the text machine. Matt, the reason the schedules have changed, the mid-major coaches have complained about it. They used to use the RPI, which gave you credit for who you played, and not as much credit
Starting point is 00:21:54 as for if you won or lost. People complained. Now the net puts much more emphasis on wins and losses, which may be good, but you get deemed for losing to anybody outside a quad one. So coaches have realized you're better off beating a quad four team. then losing to a quad two team, and that's why everyone is loading up with quad four teams. There you go, Ryan. There you go.
Starting point is 00:22:21 So, like, that makes sense. So now you're going to see, like, you cannot afford to lose to a quad two team or quad three, so you just end up playing the worst teams in the country. It's kind of disappointing. So that all the, the quad two teams just play each other then, I guess, right? Because nobody else are playing. They have a problem. They can't get anybody.
Starting point is 00:22:41 Well, that's what they've been. I'm complaining about is they can't get anybody to play them. And in some cases, they've had to dip down and play non-D-1 teams. So, like, Boise State last night, they lost to a Division 2 team, which is a terrible, terrible loss. But here's what's interesting. It doesn't hurt them because the net doesn't include losses to non-D-1 teams. So they could come up for a bid, and the fact that they lost to a D-2 team last night will not hurt them. So now they've given the quad two teams an incentive, Shannon, to not even schedule people in Division 1.
Starting point is 00:23:18 Yeah. Because it won't hurt them. But does it count for a win if they beat them? No, but like I think it's exactly right. It's like serve pro. They make it like it never even happened. So like Moorhead, you said last night played Midway. Midway is what, N-A-I-A?
Starting point is 00:23:33 Yeah, so that game had they lost, they won, it wouldn't have counted. I mean, from Moorhead, they're not going to get an at-large anyway. but a team like Boise could. Yeah. Drew, did you see the player for Hawaii Pacific what happened? Was that the dunk? Well, so this guy on Hawaii Lutheran Pacific, he starts cramping during the game. You need to look this up.
Starting point is 00:23:58 It's a great video. He starts cramping during the game on the floor. And there's like a minute left. And rather than helping him get off the floor, the trainer comes out of the floor. the trainer comes out on the floor and drags him on the ground to the bench. You got to look at this. Look it up, guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Okay. The trainer walks out of the floor. I'm watching it right now, yeah. It's a she, I think, drags him across the floor off the court. That can't be healthy shit. That can't be the recommended procedure. I don't know. He got a wheelchair or stretcher or another.
Starting point is 00:24:37 They just drag him off. Next man up. Like they're in the bunker at war. They're just dragging him off to like the tent. She just drags him off the floor. And then the game keeps going. He's just laying there on the ground. Wow.
Starting point is 00:24:51 I cannot imagine that's recommended. That's not protocol. She was told to get him off the floor, so she got him off the floor. Look at that video. It's insane. Florida did play Arizona last night. You mentioned, Drew, Arizona had a freshman. what's his name, Coy Pete.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Coa Pete had 30 points. Florida loses. Auburn nearly loses their first game with Bruce Pearl. They foul on a half court three. I think the Stephen Pearl era, I'm going to make a prediction, Drew, I don't think it's going to go well down on the plains. Yeah, I mean, the foul on the three was outrageous at the buzzer,
Starting point is 00:25:31 standing right at the logo at half court. You're up three. The guy makes all three free throws force overtime. But even before that, They were trying to give the game away. At one point, Stephen Pearl kicks the video board and breaks it, like the screens that are on the... Game one. He broke the video board.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Game one. At one point, you're in overtime with Bethune Cookman or whatever, and your scoreboard's broken, and you have Bruce Pearl on TV breaking down basketball, and Stephen is just in shambles on the planes. But he ended up holding on, but a rough start for the Stephen Pearl era, even though it was a win. Now, do you like Ryan the shot he took after the game, though, Stephen? Pearl. Oh, I haven't heard this. What did he say? So, you know, Hugh Freeze, I guess, would, during his years, he would,
Starting point is 00:26:13 apparently he was known in Auburn World for always saying that the fan base needed to be patient. So Stephen Pearl gets up there and goes, yeah, this is not acceptable. I know folks around here don't want to hear me say like they've had to listen to that we need to be patient. Takes a shot. At Hugh Freeze, Ryan, on his way out the door, just gives him a quick kick in the rear. See, I like that.
Starting point is 00:26:40 I like that part of it, that he was like, you know, this is not acceptable. We're not going to be patient like you've been preaching to the football side. We're going to go out and not to win this thing. I like Stephen Pearl standing up and saying something like that. Yeah, he's not going to work there. No, Shannon, it's not going to work. One person writes, Shannon is a narc.
Starting point is 00:26:57 They will take down that YouTube stream because of Shannon. I'm going to go ahead and tell you my son and I have watched every game on a YouTube stream. If we can't do it tonight, Shannon is going to need to apologize. I'm just trying to help everybody out. But that confirms exactly what I was telling you that all these games are on YouTube. I'll say it again.
Starting point is 00:27:14 They're on YouTube. But what if you just ruined it? How did I ruin it? There's thousands of people watching it. I mean, if anything, the guy who's the streamer is going to have about 50,000 people watching it tonight. I know, which will make it more likely it gets taken down. Well, then they'll just pull another stream up.
Starting point is 00:27:30 I mean, there's more than one person that does this, too. There's multiple streams usually. YouTube Sheriff is listening to you right now. He's going to come after you. Shannon's going to ruin it. Narc Shannon strikes again. Who's next? Let's go to Zach.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Zach. How are you, Zach? Hey, Matt. So I was at the Tennessee game, and when they got the ball back with like a minute 30, I looked at the person next to me, and I said, we're giving up a touchdown here. And so I started, because we've had a long standing critique that students, is bad in the end of first half. So I've pulled every box scored since 2019 and looked at how many points and touchdowns we've given up at the last four minutes of the first half.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Yeah. So since 2019, if you look at all games, we've actually outscored opponents by 27 points in the last. Are you the person that – we just got a minute left. Are you the person that sent me this? Yeah. Okay. So there's, just to summarize, because he's got a minute left.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Basically, Stoops is done fine in the last minutes against all teams, but when you look just at the power four, if I'm correct, in the middle eight, he's been pretty bad. Wasn't that what you came up with? Yeah, so I didn't, if you look at the middle eight, we actually don't give a lot of scores in the first four minutes of the second half. But like if you look at like since 2022, to the last four minutes of the first half, including Auburn.
Starting point is 00:29:03 We've given up 74 points. I might have to let you go. I was trying to summarize it for you because we've got to go to break. But I appreciate it. He sent me a long set of dad. It was actually very interesting. Maybe we'll try to get that as a post at some point. We will take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:29:17 This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. It's a text machine very upset at Shathing. One person writes, Matt, there's no doubt the stream's getting taken down tonight. It usually has 6,000 to 8,000 views.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Now because of Shannon, it will get up to 30, and that will make them definitely take it down. This is YouTube TV's fault that people are doing this on YouTube. I think people are blaming you now. That's fine. I just want to see what the numbers get up to tonight, the streaming numbers. I did get in a message that said that it's been taken down before. but the streamer will repost it somewhere else and put a link to it in the chat. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:05 All right. Tonight will be fun as you all try to do this. By the way, you can watch the game at the bar. We will not have it taken down because we actually have whatever the account is. Pregame show starts at 4.30. So come get ready for the game today, UK and Nichols. All right, I have this little thing here, Ryan. I think this is good for you, okay?
Starting point is 00:30:24 It's a statistic. It's a statistic website. I have two statistics. I want everyone to guess. Are you ready? Ready. First, what percentage of American men are bald? And they define that as substantial hair loss.
Starting point is 00:30:40 So we're not counting babies. It's got to be... Yeah, it's American 18 or over. Okay. And substantial hair loss. They can still have hair, but they would... I guess... Well, so I guess we wouldn't say, but it would be substantial hair loss.
Starting point is 00:30:51 What percentage of Americans do you think are? So at least a horseshoe. I'm going to say 70%. You think 70% of Americans? American men are bald? Yeah. High. Do half of that.
Starting point is 00:31:04 35. All right. Drew says 35, Shannon. I'm going to go 42. 38. 38. You and Drew kind of split. 70.
Starting point is 00:31:13 I think Ryan just is like, well, if I am. Everybody's got to be. I don't know many older men that aren't partially bald. That's why that is true. Now, that's a good point. Once you get to a certain age. But 70% of men aren't older. There are men that are in their 20s.
Starting point is 00:31:27 They're men in their 30s. Yeah, exactly. They're their men at a very age. ever yet. Okay. What percentage of Americans who are 12 and over are on the internet once in the last three months? Percentage of Americans that have been on the internet once in the last three months, and the internet can be used computer, mobile phone, video game, etc. What percentage of Americans have been on the internet at least once in the last three months? 98 I go say 90
Starting point is 00:32:01 yeah I'm going to say 93 because there's some places that don't have internet Shannon hits it dead on yeah 93% which is still I have to tell you it still feels oddly low to me
Starting point is 00:32:17 you know because it feels like do you know do you personally know anyone that's not on the internet I know one person Larry Larry's the only person I know that's not on the internet
Starting point is 00:32:28 He's the only one. You said once and three months. Has Larry been on once and three months? Larry would not have been on in the last three months. I don't even know how he would get on. I don't even think he would know how to get on the internet. So he would be the only person I know. Do you all know anyone not on the internet?
Starting point is 00:32:46 No. Yeah, like one. I mean, outside of people not in like nursing homes, no, I don't know anybody. Yeah. I mean, Shannon's right there are some places that don't have internet. but I would say nowadays, they might not have like high-speed internet, but a lot of them would have access to phones, though, you know?
Starting point is 00:33:06 And you just said get on it once in a couple months. I mean, that could be at work, a library. So 93 seems low because, like, Larry is the only person I know. And maybe there are others. Okay, how about this? How many in North Korea are on the Internet? Take a guess. They're very techy there, right?
Starting point is 00:33:28 This is no, well, I'm now going to answer the question. Oh, go ahead. North Korea. I thought it was the other way around. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. They probably have like laws. 20% restrictions against them. That's right.
Starting point is 00:33:38 I'm going to say like, it's real, like, are any of them on the internet? I'm going to say 2%. Shannon? 32%. Zero. Zero. Zero. I didn't think it'd be many.
Starting point is 00:33:51 Yeah. Not one person. Wow. They don't have the internet in North Korea. What? Now listen to this. This is amazing to me. North and South Korea were divided.
Starting point is 00:34:04 I guess we've seen before or after the Korean War, right into two different countries. South Korea, 98% of the country is on the Internet. And North Korea, zero percent of the country is on the Internet. And they are all Koreans that literally were just divided by a line based on politics. and one ended up with 98% and one ended up with zero. I'm going to the fun Korean part. Is that not?
Starting point is 00:34:34 Well, no, you're not. They're not letting you go anywhere. I'm reading a book right now about... So there's this journalist who snuck into North Korea in like an exchange teaching program and wrote a book about it. And it's one of the most fascinating things I've ever read. Because it's like one of the last societies
Starting point is 00:34:49 that's just cut off from the world, North Korea. Like it's completely cut off from the world. I saw a TikTok recently. where someone snuck a phone in and got a 30-second video of like a city and like you barely see people and they're walking in a straight line and everything is spotless. Didn't even look like a real world. But I want you to just think about the randomness of like there are families that were split up and one of them ends up on the side with 98% Shannon and one ends up on the side with zero percent. That would be horrible. I'm not convinced that Kim Jong-un doesn't have access to the internet somehow.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Well, he, I mean, maybe maybe it rounds to zero. All right. Last question on this. What percentage of the world has been on the Internet once in the last three months? The whole world. So we've already done the extremes. We've seen South Korea is 98, America's 93, North Korea is zero. What about the whole world?
Starting point is 00:35:40 Drew? I will say slightly over 50%. I will say 62.5%. Okay. Ryan. I was going to go like 40. I'll go 45, under 50%. Shannon 71%
Starting point is 00:35:55 Drew's good 63% 62.5 and it's 63% I know the world I know the world nowhere so I actually think Ryan I think that those are interesting stats aren't they
Starting point is 00:36:11 It's crazy to think about it the world we live in There's still people that can't get on the internet or don't get on the internet My mom just confirmed Larry has never been on the internet once and has no desire You got to get them on there one time just to show them that's actually not true Mom forgets. I helped Larry put his car on eBay once. But did he do it or did you do it for him? He watched me. Does that count?
Starting point is 00:36:32 No, no, he's got to actively engage in clicking buttons. Okay. Well, maybe it's zero. It might be zero. He doesn't have an iPhone, right? No, he's got an old flip phone with no internet access. Yeah. Those are popular again, flip phones.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Yeah, he's never, he may, if that doesn't count, then he's never been on it. Who's next? Noah. Noah. Go ahead, Noah. Hey Matt, I got three quick things for you. So as a non-drunk Bengals fan, I got to say it's been a very disappointing couple of weeks. But I will say after hearing your stuff from with the Bears experience, I got to say,
Starting point is 00:37:11 I do feel a little bit happy for you and a few other friends I know who went there. So I've got to give you at least that. Two, I want to propose that Matt Jones does more renditions of Sunday school songs on live. air radio that was a very enjoyable experience yesterday thank you very much i'm glad i remembered it it's been a long time well it was more of some parts of the butchering that was a bit more fun but either way with it was really fun with it and three as reputable i'm sorry as hearing uh what some notes that you talked about on the post game show after the a obern game as reputable of a man as you are matt jones it just feels a little bit of a crime against humanity you have not watched the lord of the ring movies and i will
Starting point is 00:37:52 provide whatever it needs to be so that you're able to do that. Yeah, I have not seen them. I want to. I appreciate the call. I sit down to do it, and then I get distracted. Last night I tried to watch a movie and literally fell asleep during the intro, Shannon. I've done it. I've done it.
Starting point is 00:38:11 There's no shame in that. I've done the same thing before. It was a movie. It's just got on Netflix. It's about like a gambler and it's got Colin Farrell. It's new. What's it called? Like a gamble movie on Netflix.
Starting point is 00:38:22 And I literally, the opening credits were one of those scenes where he's just walking and stuff, and I just fell asleep. Based off the opening credits, what would you give it? Five slides? Well, it looked like it could be interesting. So I'll go four. Okay. But I did not make it until no one had spoken a piece of dialogue when I fell asleep. So, yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:45 But I've never seen Lord of the Rings. You haven't either, though, Shannon, Ryan. No, I haven't seen any of those. Have you all seen it, Ryan, Drew? I went to the theater on a date in high school when it first came out and was asleep within two minutes and woke up at the end credits. But I paid money to be there. I was a part of the experience. It's interesting.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Even when I've had sleep problems, I sleep better during movies and TV shows than just in life. I guess it's because your brain is like engaged in something so you don't think but then can go to sleep. I don't know what the science of that is, but I sleep better if something's on than if I don't. Have you seen it, Ryan, Lord of the Rings? I've seen it. There's three of them. I think I've seen the first two.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Precious. I saw that one. I don't think that's, I think Precious, that's the Hobbit. That's a different one. That's it, though. Yeah. No, I mean, that's the, that's the, but you know, the, the Hobbit's a different book. Like the, you're talking about Gallum?
Starting point is 00:39:47 They're the, the, the, the, the, the, the, are you sure you haven't seen this, Matt? No, I've read the books. I've read the books. To your point about sleeping in movies, I went to a movie theater last night for the first time in years. And I told my family, I was like, by the way, I'm going to be asleep pretty quickly. This is kind of what I do. Yep, right there at Hamburg Regal, they recline. I hope Springsteen had a good career.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Springsteen. Was it good? I don't know. Was it good? I don't know. Oh, you don't know. You literally fell asleep. Every time.
Starting point is 00:40:16 I cannot go to a movie theater that has those reclining seats. It could be a movie. I'm so excited about seeing when those lights go down and I lean back. Good night. Wake me up at the credit. I would presume the Springsteen movie was loud, though, right? Because he's playing music. Those are cloders, man.
Starting point is 00:40:30 You slip right through it. While drinking a Mountain Dew and eating sugary candy, I fell asleep. That's talent. That's a good sign. Welcome to your 40s. If you fell asleep, drinking Mountain Dew and eating candy watching the Springsteen movie. Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods should last a lifetime.

Starting point is 00:44:24 and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't feel on. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it.
Starting point is 00:44:42 An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light. up and smile. That means the world to me. Starting point is 00:45:19 Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio. 859-280-2-82-87. The name of this book, I do highly recommend this. This is like a really interesting book. It's about North Korea. It's called Without You, There Is No Us. Without You, there is no us. And this woman, she, like, joined this group of people to go teach English to, like, North Korean,
Starting point is 00:45:43 like, the elite North Koreans, their kids. But, like, she was actually a journalist. So she just wrote about her time there. And I don't want to spoil it, but it's one of the more interesting books I've read. So, I mean, I know I could see Drew reading it. Ryan definitely won't read it. I assume Shannon won't read it. I don't read.
Starting point is 00:46:03 But Drew, I could see. You might like this, Drew. I put it on my list. Without you, there is no us. And it's, uh, essentially. But it's about how basically North Korea is cut off from the world. People are trying to guess where those seven percent are. So Ryan, Amish people.
Starting point is 00:46:18 okay so they don't get on the internet but I mean how many Amish people are there though there's not that many right I mean there's communities kind of sprinkled throughout the Midwest I mean what is it even it's not even 1% of the population though right probably not half a half a percent maybe 0.2%
Starting point is 00:46:35 maybe what about somebody says people in prison do people people in prison they don't have access to the internet or do they I don't know they do they get uh... certainly once in a couple months whatever we're doing here You got like a little laptop thing that you get.
Starting point is 00:46:50 You can rent. So you can get on the internet. Yeah. I got libraries. Yeah. You can download a book and read it. It's hard to know. You used to go to the nursing home every day, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:47:01 Do those people get on the internet? No. No. None of them had phones or anything. Okay. But I saw. You were asking about the Amish. Over 400,000 Amish in America.
Starting point is 00:47:14 So there's 400,000 Amish and there's what? $350,000. people. Yeah. Something like that. So it's probably 0.3% of the population or something like that. You know, something like that. All right.
Starting point is 00:47:27 859-28027. One person writes, Matt, I want to know what your all's expectation and requirement of this team is, considering that it costs $22 million. We're going to hear that number drew from now on for the rest of the season, both from critics, fans. $22 million is going to come up over and over. As you're factoring in what you think this team should do, do you think that number matters?
Starting point is 00:47:54 Not at all. I'm already tired of people bringing it up. Now, if they finish seventh in the SEC and lose 12 games, yes, then that number matters. But I don't think that will be the case. If a difference in a game or two here, there, or maybe you're one round short of a championship, whatever. The number does not matter to me unless it's just an objectively bad
Starting point is 00:48:15 and disappointing season. Does it matter to you, Ryan? I went Drew. It doesn't matter to me at all. Now, in football, we spent some money on some players that aren't even playing. If that ends up the case with basketball, we spend some of these guys that have a bad season, then maybe I might have a complaint. But as of right now, I don't care what they spend.
Starting point is 00:48:34 I just want to go out and win the game. Doesn't matter to me because it's not my money. And I think this is a unique situation. Now, when we get to Rev Share, If we as a school intentionally spend our money on basketball instead of football, and then the basketball team falters, I think that's a reasonable discussion. But what, like, private donors give, it doesn't really matter to me. Does it matter to you, Shannon?
Starting point is 00:49:02 A little bit, a little bit. You say what are the expectations? I would say final four is probably the expectations for most of the fan base. So your expectation goes up because of the amount of money? A little bit, yeah. Yeah. I mean, like Drew said, if they're terrible, then yeah, I think it really matters. But if they go to the elite aid instead of the Final Four, am I going to be talking about the $22 million or whatever?
Starting point is 00:49:21 No. As far as what the requirements are, there really are no requirements. Like if he gets bounced in the first round, nothing's going to happen, though. And it would have gotten criticism if it was $7 million, right? Like, I think that criticism would have come either way. Who's up next? Let's go to Kentucky Gasman. Kentucky Gasman. How are you? Morning guys.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Hey, I got two different things. I wanted to reiterate what Shannon said about YouTube. I've been watching the Kentucky basketball for probably two years free on YouTube. No, you started. But anyway, there's actually about three different guys on there that does it. Don't say their names. Don't say that you're going to send them to prison. Don't say their names.
Starting point is 00:50:13 No, I'm not. No, no, no, no. But anyway, you're exactly right, man. I have noticed over time that the amount of views it could get that it gets zapped. Like I said, there's three different guys. So all you got to do is go to one of the other ones when that and get zapped. I'm going to be interesting to see tonight. I'm actually going to try to watch it on YouTube just to see if Shannon ruined the fun for everybody.
Starting point is 00:50:35 I'm going to tweet out the link for everybody. Another thing that I noticed, it also depends. it also depends on how high profile the game is. I know it's that whether or not it gets that. Gotcha. YouTube should be happy that people are actually going there. My second thing is I actually have a trick for college football as well. So you guys touched on it a few weeks ago.
Starting point is 00:51:01 There is some Spanish broadcasting on different ACC schools. And you can actually go on the, free ESPN app. Now, keep your mind, I don't have to have commentators to watch football. There is, on the free ESPN app, you can go and you can watch the Spanish version for free. Oh, is that right? Now, that's interesting. So you're saying for big games, the Spanish commentator announcing is free?
Starting point is 00:51:32 Huh. Yeah, on that, there's three different ones. You know what? You know what? That's funny you say that. That's funny. Before I could get everything hooked up, I was trying to watch, I don't know if it was Vandy, Texas, or whatever the first game was Saturday.
Starting point is 00:51:46 And I noticed that exact thing. I noticed that the Spanish announcers, I thought they were going to go through the table, Shannon, like in WWE. And I noticed that it said free, and I didn't click on it. So another good piece of advice. Thank you, Kentucky Gasman. I appreciate the call. So you also, I don't know, do you think we have Spanish announcers, Drew, for Kentucky Nichols? I'm going to say no.
Starting point is 00:52:07 I don't think so. I doubt it, but tonight is Ravi Moss, I believe. Maybe they can AI Ravi Moss. Maybe we get a little Spanish Ravi Moss. Spanish Robbie Moss. There's Nolan Ravi tonight. Maybe just a little, we could do an alternate broadcast with them. Mayamo Ravi here to watch Kentucky and Nichols.
Starting point is 00:52:30 Well, lots of good tidbits. Until Shannon gets them pulled off the internet, lots of good ticket.
