Now, here's Matt Jones.
All right, good morning, welcome to this Thursday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.
What is today?
It is November the 6th, November the 6th.
Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, and Shannon the dude, Matt, taking the day off today.
He'll be back to join us tomorrow.
when we're at Bespoken Spirits, right, down at Grey Line Station.
Looking forward to that one.
Always a fun one.
Always a fun show down there, so Matt will be back for that.
But we'll get you to through today here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
As always, KSR is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office called T.J. and Shannon, what do you do?
I thought you'd never ask.
He'll make them pay.
Make them pay.
Look, it's no secret.
I'm the old guy on the show.
I mean, I'm almost 60.
That's unbelievable, by the way.
Every time you say that, it throws me off.
By years.
By years, not mentality.
true but I act like I'm 12 and I'm okay with that why not
Matt's the second oldest and then Drew and Shannon are kind of like our babies
although we don't really feel like babies Drew you are the baby
and you're having these old man episodes this morning what is wrong with you
yeah I'm getting old I walked in here and spent a few minutes looking for my
computer and our new friend here from Nashville is like you didn't bring a computer
went back to my car and got it had something to tell you a topic we had and I'm just
sitting here and my brain's just spinning it can't come to me um we were talking about a day when
matt's gone we can finally speak freely about this topic that i can't think of no either one i'm just
sitting here looking at you going uh uh so yeah i guess i'm feeling it this morning i have learned
that i have to take notes if i have an idea for the show i have to put it in my messages or my
notes or my calendar or something or i'll just forget it earlier this year i've always been
pretty good about writing things down and have like an idea for a website post or something
that I go to the notes app.
But I have to have a to-do list now.
I surrendered to do-lis this year.
You do this every day?
Yeah, with like times.
If I get behind, you better catch up.
Like, it'll pop up.
You have to send you in an alert if you missed your appointment?
I'll put little things on there, too.
It's not big stuff.
Like, go do the radio show.
It can be little.
Just a little chore I have to do.
But I have to write stuff down now.
I want to embarrass myself.
I had to give myself a note to remind me to get gas.
on the way to work this morning.
I was on empty last night.
I had to write myself and put it in my calendar.
I've done that.
Get gas.
It's all right.
Part of it is you can't be late for the show.
It's not like a job or you can't have five minutes behind.
I'll catch up.
I mean, the show starts and the show starts.
So something like gas, we already cut it close as is.
You don't want to get in your car and look down and be on empty.
That's right.
I've done that before.
I've done that this month, and it's only the sixth.
Oh, you know, I'm naked in the shower list in the pre-show.
I don't need to hear about that.
And when I get out.
Let's stick with the two lists.
Every day I listen to Shannon Naked in the pre-show during the pre-show.
And then I get out and I look at my phone and look at an alert popped up.
Get gas.
Remind me I need to get gas before I go do the radio show today.
I can't make fun.
Literally yesterday on my To-List app, I had gas.
Get gas.
I had to get it by 1 p.m.
Well, welcome to the 40s.
Yeah, it's fun.
You want me to read my to-do list today?
We've got about 20 things on there.
I won't go through all of it.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Drew Franklin's to-do list for Thursday, November 6.
Well, I got to the radio show.
check that off at new. Do you have that on your
your to-do list? No, that one, that one's pretty common.
I got a website post, I've got to finish, been working
on it. It's on your to-do list? Yeah, I've got
that done by 3.30, or I started
getting behind. Yeah. We got a happy hour
on YouTube today. Watch that. Okay.
Watch that. Everyone join us. Got that at four. I'll check that
off of five. Then I got a few
private things. Shopping, some
gifts. I don't want to read that out in the year, but I got to
get those done. I got to design some
t-shirts for Nashville,
all kinds of things.
Yeah, because your wedding anniversary is
Tuesday, the day of the Louisville game next week.
Is it?
Yes.
That's why I got to get those gifts asap.
Thank you for that.
See? Put it out.
Oh, in my anniversary.
It's 11-11.
It's the best number in all of the numbers.
There we go.
Well, that's how we get through our days.
And that's why you better put that on your to-do list because you cannot forget to get your wife, Abby, an anniversary game.
She's fired up about there being a basketball game that night.
I'll say that.
The other thing, Shannon, we did this morning before the show.
All the fun stuff happens before the show starts.
Drew's having the old man moment.
and Mario is just getting embarrassed because Brony got on his head last night by Victor Wimbun Yama.
Yeah.
I mean, it's awful.
I know that Mario is a big fan of LeBron.
Brony, right?
He loves some brawny, but he got absolutely embarrassed by that dunk.
I mean, that was, that was ugly.
Every morning, Mario, he doesn't say good morning.
Hey, you look nice today or hey, you look bad today.
Hey, do you remember your laptop today?
First thing out of Mario's mouth every morning is, see Brony last night?
And tonight, there's a little tear in those eyes when Mario explained to me what happened.
I don't know why he jumped with Wimby.
Why?
I don't know what he thought was going to happen.
But Mario is in a bad place today.
Bronny looks like a little – looks like me out there.
Like a little kid out there.
And then there's that picture where Bronnie is at, like, the height of his jump, and he's still looking up at Wimby.
He's cocking it back on top of his head.
Wimby looked a lot like Colin Chandler in that clip.
Yes, he did.
Okay, which brings me – which I – which, by the way, I brought the –
A Vision Glass Text Machine.
Oh.
Do you remember the number?
Okay.
502.
Yeah.
Seven.
Uh-huh.
I felt like there's an eight here.
Help me out.
And then 8586, 34, 35.
3536.
80.
Okay.
I'm rusty.
That's on me.
5.2.
7.
35, 36, 80.
I brought it because Matt's not here today.
We need to, you know, people can remember you work with a show with us.
And there's a great question on there from, like,
week ago.
And now it's even better, I think.
I want you to give, if you, I think the
way they put it was, if you were an alien and you came
down from outer space, you do
nothing about Kentucky basketball. You
do nothing about who their freshmen were, who
the returners were, who the transfer portal's got.
All your judging is what you've seen from
the Purdue game to Georgetown game,
and now we can add the Nichols
game. Who's your starting
five? After what you've seen,
just what you've seen, who's your starting
five? I thought that was a good question.
It is. It's a little unfair because I haven't seen the injured guys, so I would love to start.
That's it. We can't even talk about them.
Also, this analogy is exactly what I said about Cutter Bowley in the fall.
We went to that media practice.
In my exact words, if I were an alien that just landed and watched football practice,
I would say that's the starting quarterback.
That was my analogy in the fall.
So I've already done this once.
But I guess I would have to say Oway, Aberdeen, Diabate.
Okay, I think those three are given.
Yeah.
I think those three are locked in.
The other two, I think, are up for debate.
Malachi Marino would hit his free throws.
I think I would say him.
Yep.
But one for six last game.
I'm still giving the slight edge to Garrison.
But if I'm an alien, I'm like, who's this other guy?
Because he's looking pretty good, too.
I know.
Those are tough for me.
But the free throw shooting alone, I'll give Garrison the edge.
Okay.
So I still need another guard or wing.
You know, Trent Noah's hurt.
And Trent has started.
all three games. Yeah, do aliens know how rolled ankles work? Do I understand what I just watched?
Do you think Trent has played well enough to... He and Cam aren't making their shot. I would probably
just have to be like that curly-haired blonde kid. You know, he's been inconsistent, but I'm putting him in there.
I think that's, that'd be my group. Aberdeen Chandler, Oway, Diabate, slight nod to Garrison because
of Marino just being cold from a free throw. All right, Shannon, who are you going with?
No way, for sure. Colin Chandler, especially the way he played last game.
Garrison, Diabate, and I'd probably throw Jasper Johnson in there.
And if I'm an alien, I see that Colin Chandler-Dunk,
and I wonder if he's one of us, how did he get here and play for this team?
I'm really torn between Jasper and Chandler,
because Chandler's, the game against Nichols is fresh in our mind.
He struggled against Georgetown.
Didn't play that well against Purdue.
Yeah, but those games didn't count, though.
Well, they count in this exercise.
Aliens don't know anything about preseason and post.
They just came and watched the game.
So I think I'm going.
Kim Kardashian will explain it so.
I'm going Aberdeen to Point, 08 to 2, and Diabate 8th to 4.
Those are given.
Okay.
But then I think I'm going with Jasper and Malachi.
I don't think you can be wrong in saying that.
Colin will be my first guy off the bench because he can play any of the three spots.
Oh, I like that.
Yeah, he can come play the one, two, or the three.
But if you didn't know, I think that would be the group we're talking about, those five or six guys.
Yeah, a lot of ups and downs with all those.
guys too. Maybe Diabate has been pretty
steady, but it's been an inconsistent
start so far. Yelovich
hasn't done much. Cam Williams
hasn't done much. Trent Noah
hasn't done much? Surely
Trent and Cam
Williams, it'll start going in eventually.
I don't think people
were lying when they talked about how well they
shot all summer. I mean, that's all we
heard. I'm worried there's been a little bit of a
a jinks on that. A little bit of talking about
them too much. Lift them up too high and it hadn't
shown, but surely that will level
out. And I think part of it's just been the offense hasn't had the flow without a point guard.
You know, it all works together. You all got to be complimentary. And in that first half we saw when they
weren't moving the ball and they were sitting around looking at each other, they just took
turn chucking up threes and that's not going to help them at all. I heard Jack Givens on the Leach Report
this morning and he was talking about how when you're a good shooter like that in practice, you're just
catching it and shooting it. He said he compared it to a golfer. You try to, you're trying to aim
your golf shot instead of just swinging. Just going back and just swinging and just hitting it. Don't try to aim
the ball. He thinks that's what Cam Williams
is doing in the game, not in practice, but in the game, kind of just
hesitating just enough where he's just trying to push it through.
Yeah, that and, like, Chandler obviously went three for three
in the second half. He looks more confident when it's more
of catch, shoot, react than initiating as the lead ball
handler. And then, just all of them. They need the offense to be
working. Like, Oway can't drive when they're just passing around the
perimeter. He needs shooters out there to space the defense so he can
get a lane. I mean, all of it, you know, works
together. That's the beauty in the offense. And in that first half, when they're just looking at each other,
nobody can do what they're supposed to be doing. So do we know anything about Trent Noah's ankle?
Sounds like he's good to go. Pope called him a liar.
What night was that when we play?
Tuesday night. Yeah, after the game, because Trent was saying at halftime, I'm good to go. Put me in,
put me in. Traynor's like, he says he's good. Pope's like he's lying to you. We're going to sit him out.
But he was very active during halftime in the shoot around. It looked like he was ready to go.
So I would suspect he's fine.
There were reports he was in a boot yesterday.
Yeah, they did the NBA 2K thing came to campus.
Did you see that?
No, I didn't see that.
It's like a big lab, like a bus, but then they scan the players because Kentucky's going to be in the new video game.
Oh, nice.
So that's how Trent was spotted.
They parked that thing outside the Joe Crafts Center.
There's a million pictures of it online.
But it's very cool for the players.
They all get to go in there, and it does a complete body scan so they can be in the video game.
But the point of that is that's how Trent was seen in a boot.
I hope they scanned him without the boot.
so he can be in the game.
But, you know, with boots, we all worry when you see a guy out of boot.
This happens almost every season, but boots are pretty common these days.
It's a precautionary.
They're going to be walking around campus in a boot if they turn an ankle.
It doesn't mean three, four months, six months.
They wear boots all the time.
Otega was in a boot most of the summer.
It seemed like he his turf toe injury.
Very, very common.
So we're not 100% for sure about Tramp, but Jeline that he's probably going to play.
He was very active at halftown.
I thought he was going to come out and play the second half of the last game.
just took the precautionary measure because it's Nichols.
But I'd be surprised if Trent's out too long.
Maybe they hold him one more game just to be safe,
but he was moving around pretty well.
And then Jaylon Lowe?
I don't know anything, but just as a fan,
I really hope they get him a game before a Louisville.
I do too.
Because I feel like he's close,
and I don't want Louisville to be his first game,
especially on the road.
You want to get him a rep before that.
But also you don't want to push him too soon,
but there's one game between now and Lulul.
So I hope he's out there
And if I had to guess, I would say yes
But that's not an educated guess
That's just hearing how close he's been for several weeks
Do we know if he's in contact drills now?
He's been practicing, I don't know if it's been 100%
But he's been ramped up and practicing
In some form for a while
I mean even the family practice we went to
He wasn't doing five-on-fives or real aggressive in the drills
But he wasn't just sitting there watching either
He was doing some stuff
So we want to hear from you today
We'll take a lot of phone calls
859-2-802-287.
We have a special guest coming for the second hour.
That's right.
Cash Daniels coming in.
He might have some thoughts on the current state of the other team.
I mean, perfect.
If you think about the Kentucky's winter of Florida, you think of him.
Yeah.
You know, that's his game.
So Cash will be here to talk about, we'll get in the weeds on UK football,
and talk about his wrestling careers also.
I'll check this first segment off my to-do list also.
Just chipping away at that.
But before we go to a break, we do need to – I just want to acknowledge, you know,
Louisville is still a city in mourning,
and the death toll now, Shane, I think, is up to 12.
I think that's right, yep.
And Governor Beshear said they don't expect to find any more living bodies.
Yeah.
So the death toll more than likely will increase.
One of those dead as a child.
So, you know, we know the city of Louisville's in mourning.
A lot of people that live in that area are traumatized by it, you know,
it happened right here in your backyard.
So just want to acknowledge, you know, we're thinking about you guys,
praying about you guys, and hang in there because it's,
going to get worse for it gets better, I think.
Yeah, I mean, the loss of life is absolutely tragic,
but there's several people in Louisville who just witnessed it.
You know, Nick Rauch doesn't live too far, a friend from the side.
I mean, the whole city's going through right now,
thinking about everyone, especially the ones most impacted.
Well said.
All right, we'll take our break.
Come back.
Go to the phone lines, 859-280-2287.

All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Ryan, Drew, and Shannon.
Give us a call today.
859-280-2-287.
We'll try to get in many calls as we can.
I do want to go to the aviation glass text machine.
Okay.
I'm glad I brought it.
5027-35-36-80 or 36-80?
You don't even know your own number?
35-36-80.
You had to look at the back.
I'd look at the back.
I'd love that the numbers on the back.
I don't know.
I don't remember.
This is what somebody says,
if I'm an alien, I'm going small ball with Aberdeen, Johnson,
Chandler, Oway, and Diabate.
Okay.
I hadn't thought about that angle.
Wait, say that again? I missed a person.
I heard four names.
Aberdeen, Johnson, Chandler.
Okay, I didn't catch Johnson.
Owey.
Gotcha. And Diabate.
I can see that.
I'm enjoying the Jasper experience so far.
It's been a little messy, but it's been fun.
He's just a score, man.
He can just get the ball in the basket, and he's not afraid to take that shot either.
Oh, that's the game.
In the Georgetown game, I think he took four a row, and Pope took five
steps onto the court and yelled at him.
But that's the fun part. He's figuring it out. He comes from O.T.
He's young. He's got the creator in him.
They'll get that dialed in, but so far it's been fun watching him just get used to everything.
His dad, Dennis, sent me a text kind of upset that we outed him yesterday for sitting at the very
tippy top of Rupp Arena.
But that's just, that's a dad, man.
Those of us that are dad that have kids at play, we understand why you do that.
And when the arena is as empty as it was, he wasn't hiding very well.
I know his intent wasn't to be seen.
That section was pretty empty.
Even if it wasn't his dad, people in there would be like, who's that person way up there in that seat?
It's so unnecessary for them to be in the top row.
And he's six, six.
I mean, he's not like he can hide up there.
You can see him up there.
I mean, I saw him and didn't know who it was.
I just thought, man, that guy just wants a good seat.
And that's when somebody's like, that's Dennis.
And I was like squinted.
Like, that's Dennis?
Here's another one on the A-Vision Glass Tech Machine.
If I'm an alien and I don't know much about basketball, I'm asking to put that super tall guy named Mark Pope in the starting five.
Yeah, that's true.
I got a little age on him compared to the others, but just from the height,
I could see showing up on Earth and being like, who the hell is that?
So what was your biggest takeaway from the season opener against Nichols?
Is there something that you're, let's go, your best most positive,
and then maybe your most negative?
I guess it's very clear that Chandler's a two.
We suspected that, and he got his opportunity to try running the show a little bit,
but we saw what happened when they switched at halftime,
slid him over and put Aberdeen in there.
So I guess not giving up on Chandler and seeing that he's much better off the ball,
better reacting than being more of the creator initiating.
I'd say that's my biggest takeaway because he had a great half
and we learned exactly how he needs to play.
So that's my big one there.
I'm still worried about overall shooting, I guess.
But as I mentioned in the first segment,
that was mostly in the first half when the offense was so clunky.
So hopefully that'll fix itself.
and when Noah's healthy and then whatever Cam Williams is going to become,
those two have to get it going.
They can't keep missing because they're the shooters on the team.
Shannon, what was your biggest takeaway positive and negative from the game against Nichols State?
Nichols.
That it was clear that Mark Pope worked on defense and practice all week and not offense.
I mean, defensively, you held Nichols to 15 points.
I think what was the overall record?
Like 11, I think it was the fewest points ever scored at Rupp Arena.
So that was impressive.
But then the flip side of that, the ugly part was the,
the offense, the bad shooting.
Free throws, too, have got to improve.
That was pretty ugly.
Yeah, it's hard to not realize this is not our team at full strength.
But when you see the product on the court, both you guys are right.
Outside shooting has not been what we thought it would be.
And Shannon said at free throw shooting, I mean, they practice a lot on free throws,
and they have not shot free throws very well at all.
They were 12 for 22.
I mean.
54%.
So is it too early to get?
worried when this is not even our full-strength team yet, or is there a reason to get a little
worried about the shooting?
Oh, you got to worry about it because it was in all preseason games and the Nichols game.
Now, if you wanted to do a little silver lining, I think O'Way and Jasper took the most other than
Marino.
They were four for five each.
Chandler was like two for three or one for two.
So your guards, your guys that are playing a lot having the ball were hitting them, and
don't mean to pick on them, but Marino going one for six really brought the team average
down.
average still matters, and he took the most free throws, so that definitely matters.
But it seems there's just a couple culprits so far that aren't knocking down their shots.
And, you know, always a guy that's going to take a lot of them.
Him going four for five. That's good to see.
And I don't think Malachi is a bad free throw shooter.
Maybe it's just, is it just getting caught up in the moment, and then it gets in your head?
You know, free throws mental kind of like hitting a five-foot putt.
He gets in your head, and all of a sudden you can't hit anything.
Yeah, I mean, I have the box score up now.
They missed 10 free throws.
He and Diabate missed seven or eight.
of the 10.
Yeah, that those guys are going to play, and they're taking a lot of free throws,
so they got hit them.
But it doesn't seem to be a whole team issue except for the team percentage.
On the recruiting front, Tyrant Stokes, the kid from Louisville, kind of was in the headlines
yesterday.
He's been kicked out of school, or do he leave school?
Are you getting trouble at school?
What's the exact, the exact story there?
There's something about he got a disciplinary issue, and he decides to leave school here
when the season is just getting ready to start?
I believe the official word says he has withdrawn to explore new opportunities.
You know, that might be a nice way of putting it.
It sounds like something happened there.
Disciplinary might be more of the way.
I genuinely don't know, but there's message boards and the buzz is that he's not completely innocent of withdrawing and exploring new opportunities.
I don't know if it's just a fit with the team or if there was a locker room issue or what.
But I've heard that saying he would drew up with Drew to see other opportunities as a polite way of putting it.
Well, it sends off alarm bells.
The season is just getting ready to start.
You're the number one player in the class.
You just narrowed your list of three, and you're getting almost kicked out of school?
If you're a coach, does that alarm you a little bit?
Yeah, and if there's disciplinary actions and, like, if there's rumors out there of some locker room stuff,
If that's true, you do worry, this is like your top target at Kentucky,
and you don't want to bring someone in with some baggage.
So, I mean, Pope, you can't turn down Tyron Stokes, really, and you're all in on him.
But you do have to protect your own locker room if he comes here, if he is an issue.
That's one thing Kentucky's been so good with, even with Cal.
I mean, there are a few little spats that we've mentioned,
but overall, we've had pretty good character guys that haven't had big, you know,
being baby issues behind the scenes or anything like that, and you want to keep that.
Yeah, there's already been stories where.
very important in this NIO world.
There's already been stories where Pope is kind of shaking
recruits hands like, you know, hey man, thanks, good luck to you.
I think you know realizing he's not a good fit for what he wants to do
and I guess they have to look at that.
And I'm not saying, I don't know what Tyrant Stokes did.
I don't know what the situation it is, but, you know, he's a Kentucky kid.
He grew up in Louisville.
Kentucky was supposedly the number one team on these final three.
So obviously there's a lot of interest on both parts there.
Definitely.
And if it is something he's out, you know, altercations and really getting in trouble,
you're going to have to, there's a little.
little scale there. How good at basketball are you?
What could you potentially do to our culture that's been so good?
And Pope especially, with his messaging of team in Kentucky and number nine,
you don't want to bring in a bad apple because that can derail anything.
Before we go to the phone line, I do want to mention to the U.K. women are in action tonight playing Monmouth.
Is it a special Girl Scout game?
No, the Girl Scout game was later.
I don't remember seeing anything attached to it.
I'll try to look on the fly, but it's not the Girl Scout game or the
Okay.
Or whatever the other one.
So they host Monmouth at Historic Memorial Coliseum at 630.
Darren Hendrick, we have the pregame show right here on 630 WAP at 615 if you want to tune in.
Oh, it is Girl Scout Day.
I thought that was next week.
I apologize.
I thought maybe you said.
Sorry Girl Scouts.
I thought that was Buffalo on Sunday.
So what does it mean?
If you wear your Girl Scout uniform, you get in free or a half price?
I don't know what it means.
Also, while I'm looking at this, I got update.
I mentioned Sunday.
That's the volleyball game, not basketball.
I said there weren't general mission tickets.
I got on there more.
So do it.
Oh, they've released more general vision tickets.
I got mine last night.
All right, there you go.
There's your UK update, and we come back.
We'll go to the phone lines, 859-280-2287.
Ryan Drew and Shannon, right here on Kentucky Sports Radio.
Jay Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
A little Darius Rucker to get us going here on this Thursday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio.
Thank you, Mr. Dude.
Appreciate that.
You know, he's probably down to his South Carolina.
Carolina Gamecocks have not had the season they thought they were going to have either.
They were all high and mighty thinking maybe they're going on like the playoffs.
They're struggling a little bit too.
They are.
If you talk to him, is he doing all right?
He's doing all right.
You know, hanging in there.
We kind of been sharing our football woes a little bit.
But, you know, he's a happy man.
Now he got engaged.
Oh, really?
Good for him.
He's got an older engagement.
He's getting up there a little bit of him.
He's exactly the same age I am.
We're a couple months apart.
Maybe you should get engaged.
859-2802-287.
That's our Clark's Publish Shop phone.
numbers you want to call and get a board we have one caller who's been waiting for a little while
shannon so let's get him on who we got let's go to john john go ahead john hey guys how's it's
how you john pretty good hey uh listen just a quick question for you guys um regardless of like
coach regardless of who our coach is soup whoever whatever um at any point in the end program
Do you ever think or do you ever see like Kentucky football ever being, I don't know,
or maybe just as the program in general, just being like a balanced school,
you know, like how Florida used to be or something of that nature.
You know what I mean?
Appreciate the phone call.
Yeah, we had this conversation some when Kentucky football was winning nine,
10 games, and Kentucky basketball, though, kind of dipped a little at that time.
They couldn't get around the same season at the same time.
Drew, do you ever foresee a time where they're both?
at their best I think there will be some runs where Kentucky football is is above
what we're used to seeing and we have a few years where both of them are rolling
when Cal and Stoops were having their little our little in-house fight there
that's kind of when football was rocking and that was a fun time but I don't
think we'll ever consistently be living in that world it'll happen occasionally
and we'll love it but it's just in the SEC where I don't think we can do it
year after year I thought there was a chance when Stoops had
the football team rolling.
I thought Cal would get the basketball team back up, making some final four runs.
They just couldn't get them going at the same time, it seemed like.
Yeah, but as we saw during that stretch, I know we all grew up wanting to play basketball,
and Kentucky basketball is our baby.
But that football, when they were winning 10 games and Stoops had it at the peak,
that was a lot of fun too, and the fan base really got behind it.
People were right, is this a football state finally?
Yeah.
It was just very short-lived, and I think that will continue to be the case,
even when we pop back in for those fun moments.
A vision glass text machine.
Not going to judge the shooting until we get low back.
His job is to run the offense.
It makes sense for the offense to look discombobulated without him.
Well, I guess the counter argument is they looked pretty good when Aberdeen was in there
running the offense in the second half.
So what's your take on it?
Well, they're exactly right.
I mean, we're trying to grade a football team that doesn't have a quarterback right now.
I mean, the guy who's going to initiate to run the show is sitting in street closed.
But in that second half, Aberdeen proved that he is the sort of.
serviceable backup.
We've wondered how Pope would rotate the back court.
You got Jasper who could do a little bit of both.
We thought Colin Chandler might be able to do a little both.
Maybe not at this point.
But Aberdeen was six assists and zero turnovers playing limited minutes.
Had that flashy no-look pass to Marino there in the second half.
I think he showed what the offense looks like when you have a point guard out there.
All that talking to summer, who's going to be the backup point guard?
It's going to be Jasper, Colin Aberdeen.
It's Aberdeen.
I mean, I think he's won that job.
improved to me, especially what he did against Purdue, and then what he came in, did in the second
half against Nichols.
Yeah, and that first half, they barely played him with O-Way.
Even though he got some minutes, he was with that second group.
And when Pope made the halftime adjustment, kind of helped with Noah sitting out the second
half, that's where we saw him go to the next level playing with the other guys.
And even though it was one game, that answered a big question, I think.
And Jasper can do it a little bit of me.
His first career game was just a few days ago.
He might be the third option there.
Jasper looks like he could go back.
I think so.
I think he could do it.
As a matter of fact, if I ranked him, I probably would put low one, Aberdeen, two, Jasper 3,
now Colin, I'd drop him down to four in the point guard rotation.
And hopefully, it's not like last year where you have to get down to four.
Yeah.
These injuries have been insane to start Mark Pope's career.
That's why when Noah was laying down there in the middle of all the camera people,
and I couldn't even really see him, you could hurt a pin drop in Rupparina.
And I'm thinking, my God, this team is so cursed.
But luckily it looks like he hopped up will be okay.
But it felt like here we go again, one more.
I'm going to switch gears just for a minute
this weekend the high school's
football playoffs start
most of the games we're supposed to be scheduled
for tomorrow but there's bad weather
coming into Kentucky and so a lot of those
games have been switched to tonight
so actually there are a ton of games tonight
open up the football playoffs including your bullet east
charges Shannon they host
North Hardin tonight
and their first round of the playoffs
Matt's Middlesboro Yellow Jackets host
Harlan tonight
I mean what a bottle that is
Middlesboro and Harlan
13th region showdown in
Middlesboro. But Drew, you're
Madisonville Maroons, I think you're kind of getting hosed.
I couldn't believe it. They played tomorrow night
so they didn't even move the game.
Madisonville finished
8 and 2.
8 and 2 for us. I mean, that's
give us a Super Bowl trophy for going 8 and 2
in Madisonville. That's a huge season for my maroons.
So they have to play
at Greenwood. Greenwood
finished 6 and 4. Greenwood
didn't move the game to tonight.
They want to play in the rain and the storm tomorrow night, and it's at green.
I think Madisonville North Hopkins is getting hosed in this deal here.
Thank you for saying that for me, and I've got to be honest, Ryan.
I'm not used to having to pay attention to the playoffs as a Madisonville Maroon.
So I don't even understand how this happens.
I know the format changed, what, two years ago?
Yeah.
Two years ago, I get it.
This is new.
It's get more teams in.
Everybody's happy.
But I'm not happy.
How are we at 8 and 2 going to Greenwood, the big city?
Yeah, going to Bow,
Golden Green.
How does that happen?
I don't understand it.
Who do I need to call?
I thought the high-seated teams play the low-seated teams in the first round and the second
round of the playoffs.
So how are they getting, how are they having to go on the road to start with when they
obviously won their district at 8 and 2?
Is your boy J-Tack behind this?
That is.
That is, Mr. Sir, Gillian Tackett.
The Honorable Judge that he is.
Do I need to call him?
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe somebody knows why this is going on.
but usually these first round games and second round games are kind of, a lot of our blowouts.
Did anyone tell them that we beat Paduca Tilman?
Has anyone brought that up at the committee?
A very strong Paduca Tilman team that many thought might win that state title on 5A.
We scored 70 points in a game.
Was that against Owensboro?
No, they scored like 70 points.
Get us.
But that doesn't matter, Ryan.
It was against Central.
Our rival.
So that's what I was going to say, even if you beat Greenwood tomorrow night,
your next round game is against Owensboro that just beat you a couple of
week to go. I'm driving to KHSA
headquarters. Is that in Lexington? It is. It's by my house.
It's over there by where you live. Walk to it. They're going to hear for me today.
I'm adding that to my to do list, Ryan.
130 KHSAA offices.
I need to start walking at about
110 to get there. Trevor,
the radio guy, Madisonville's got to be having a field day.
Trevor Rice. My goodness. I can't understand how
they have to go on the road the first game and then probably play Owensboro
in the second game. If we didn't have a basketball game
tomorrow night, I would be making a trip to Bowling Green
and I would be heard.
They would know I'm there.
Maroons, we got a win.
We can't let the system beat us.
They're obviously trying to cheat us.
They are football success.
They're trying to put us back in the dark in a closet like we don't matter.
They're saying, get out of our playoffs.
You don't belong here, but we're going to upset Greenwood.
And we're going to beat Owensboro.
I don't care if they put the Chiefs in front of us three weeks from now.
Madisonville is going to keep rolling.
Drew Franklin, ladies gentlemen.
There you go.
The little Madisonville rant right there that I think is well deserved
because they're getting a hose a little bit over there.
We beat Paducahaw.
And thanks for bringing it up, Ryan, because if I say we're getting hosed, people think I'm being a home.
But you are an objective reporter, journalist.
You've covered high school football in this state longer than I've been alive.
That might not be true, but thank you for standing up for her.
Now, we're talking about Madisonville.
I've got to ask you this.
I was told there's a guy, a guitar player who's very famous from Madisonville named Bosco, France.
Okay.
You said you'd never heard of him.
You don't have to say that out loud.
Maybe Bosco, I'm sure you're doing a great job.
But no, I'm not familiar with Bosco.
But he's like, I guess, famous.
guitar player from Madisonville.
This is a bad look for me. I understand.
We are the best town on earth. I love Madisonville.
I am not familiar with Bosco,
France. But please tell me more.
He's played guitar in a lot of famous
groups, and I'm hearing like he's
he had a concert in Evansville last night.
That's how I know about him. People are going to the
Bosco, France concert, who's
from Madisonville, and apparently he
plays on stage in
overalls. Well, good. That sounds
like a good outfit. And I'm
proud of anyone from Madisonville that's
doing good things.
I feel bad that I wasn't familiar with Bosco,
but I like another good Madisonvilleian out there.
Who are they?
Frank Ramsey.
John Hood.
John Hood.
Travis Ford.
Zach Tao.
We have more Kentucky basketball players than we should probably have.
Zach Tao who got in the game the other night.
That's right.
Big moment.
Very proud of Zach, too.
Got in the end of the game.
Zach comes from an SEC family.
His sister was a softball star at Alabama.
Oh, she was a superstar.
She was a pitcher, right?
She was their pitcher?
We play ball in Madisonville a little bit.
But they get to hose when it comes to the football.
ball playout until we win it eat it greenwood all right well take our break come back go back to the phone lines
859-2802287 if you got something you want to get off your chest or if you want to support the madisonville maroons we'll take

Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio, Ryan Drew and Shannon.
My friend Mike just sent me the RPI rankings in Class 5A of high school football.
Okay.
Let's hear them.
Madisonville is 7th.
Oh, nice.
Greenwood, their opponent on Friday, that they have to play at Greenwood?
16th.
Don't get me worked up.
I'm going to walk to KHSA right now.
It makes no sense.
It really does, and I'm on Madisonville side.
But the fact that Greenwood wouldn't even move the game to tonight where the weather's going to be a little better tells me they're out to hose Madisonville as much as they can.
So I have a text from a source.
Yeah.
It's my dad.
He's a good source.
He says, we're on the road because we lost to Apollo.
and then Corey Price sent the standings
and Apollo was 4 and 1 in the district
and we're 3 and 2 in our district
so I guess that was the difference maker
wait a minute but that would just put you at second place behind Apollo
well we're it's it seems complicated
but like the one the two seed from this region
plays the three seed from this region I don't know
Corey Price sent me a long explanation
there's even a spreadsheet but it all comes down to Apollo
see I'm not can look how much this I can't do this
on the air. This would be bad radio.
But the loss to Apollo was apparently
the difference. That was the difference to make it. So he finished eight and two.
Doesn't matter who you lose to. You lose one game, the wrong
people, and it's hoses you. It doesn't matter.
Madisonville, we play the team in front of us. If we got to go to
Bowling Green, we'll go beat it to the Bowling Green.
All right, we've got people on phone to get on
with Drew here and talk about the Madisonville
Maroon. So who we got, Shannon? The Truth.
The Truth is on. The Truth.
Go ahead, Truth.
I didn't know you was from Madisonville.
Best town on Earth, Truth.
born and raised
I know
you got a good
running back
named High Tire
I know
it's grandad

I know a lot
of the

he's a great
running back
let me tell you
something
about the tickets
Matt Jones
let me tell you
something
that John
wanted you to
hear it
but you
didn't want
to give me
no tickets
to go to
IU
and touch that
I have
just what I got
on December
said
somebody for IU
reached out
to me
I want you to go to the Louisville and I'llowah and IU
and IU Bay to go to the Big Ten championship game with Ohio State
and Indiana played December 6th and we paying for everything.
I can know that you can't.
Somebody for IU reached out.
Well, that's awesome.
They like to do that for fine upstanding young citizens
like yourself.
Hey, let me, you're going to throw this into
Madisonville.
You're wrong about Madisonville.
You need to go back when I used to play against
Madisonville in the 80s.
When you had O.C. Nichols when Madisonville was number one in football
and Henderson County was number two, and we beat John.
Listen, listen.
Talking trash.
If you want to talk Madisonville Henderson, we'll have to put the radio down
because we don't get along.
So that's for another time.
But yes, you're right.
There has been some good.
football history of Madisonville.
Ever heard of a guy named Sunny Collins?
I believe I've heard of Sonny Collins.
Yeah, we've had some good years.
Just been a while since we've been in the conversation.
All right, truth, appreciate it.
If you ever heard the two great guys played in the U.K., played in Henderson County,
named Roger Bird and Sam Ball?
A known ball.
And Will Fiddler.
And Will Fiddler.
Good point.
Yeah.
Truth, appreciate it.
Thanks for the phone call.
Yeah, Sam Ball, one of the greatest off-edging linemen ever to play, Kentucky.
It's gotten better in old age.
You've been in high school, Madisonville, Henderson.
It's one of those.
We all have those.
Our golf teams got separated on the putting green.
I'm going to doubt that Truth played football at Henderson, though, in the 80s.
He might have.
Also, it's very nice that they're taking him to the Louisville game.
It is cool.
However, getting tickets to a Louisville game and getting tickets to a Rup Arena are two different things.
That's true.
Yeah.
It might be able to walk right into the Yom Center for that.
Whatever you want.
Not to take away.
It's going to be exciting.
It's cool that Indiana did that.
But it was a $4 ticket to go see a Louisville game these days?
Easy, easy, easy access to go to the Louisville game.
But it was nicer taking truth.
No, it would be good having an away fan in Louisville.
I'll actually be an Indiana fan that day.
Who's next, Shannon?
Jay.
Jay, go ahead, Jay.
Good morning.
The high school playoffs, the districts, one plays two, three plays four, et cetera.
The one-seed place the host the four seed, the two-seat host the three-seed.
Madisonville was undefeated and went and got beat by Apollo 49 to 40
and then Owensboro went over and put a 61 to 7.
I'll be losing.
Drop him down there.
So if Madisonville is fortunate enough to win Friday night against Greenwood,
I think Owensbrill is not going to be real intimidated by him.
Have a great thing.
Appreciate the phone call.
I need everybody to calm down on this trash talk.
This is going to be a different type of show.
Owensboro has Evan Hampton, grandson of our friend Doug Hampton,
love Doug.
Son of referee Brent Hampton, committed to Vanderbilt to play football with the Commodores in the SEC.
So he's definitely one of the best players in the state.
The best thing Evan Hampton did was decommit from Louisville.
Best decision anyone could make.
Let's get another call, Shannon.
Who we got?
Let's go to Madison.
Madison.
Another call from Henderson.
They're all calling from Henderson today.
How are you doing, Ryan?
How are you doing, Madison?
I'm good.
fine. I got a couple questions.
One, how did the Valpo game come
about? Was Mark Pope
with one of the coaches
friends with one of the head
coaches? And then two,
what's it going to take for us to go bowling and
football? I know we're not having a very good year.
All right, Matt's and appreciate it.
I'm in more wins you think we'll get.
All right, appreciate it. Do the basketball
while we play in Valpo. How are we
added Valpo? I don't know how Valpo
became the team, they are one of the three teams in the BBN United Tipoff Classic
presented by Kentucky tourism, but I don't know how they were selected.
I don't know if there was a play-in or how they qualified.
I don't know of any Pope-Val-Po connections.
I don't either.
I mentioned earlier.
Their coach is a former Illinois player, Roger Powell Jr.
I don't know if there's any connections there.
But no, I don't have the answer for Valpo.
And what's it going to take for the Kentucky football team to go bowling?
Win more games.
Three more wins.
That's what it's going to take.
We all know.
It's right there in front of us.
I guess you could take one more loss, but other than that, you've got to win.
You've got to go 3-1 in your last four games.
Yeah, that's the script.
And you can start it off with Florida on Saturday.
We're going to talk about that.
Cash just walked in, so we're going to get into the weeds about U.K. football to get his take on what he's seen so far.
And the rest of the season with, you know, it seems to be a little more optimism, I think, going around now after they beat Auburn last weekend.
Where?
With me.
I think that's a small group.
I don't know there's a lot of optimism, but I actually feel good about the Florida game.
I really do.
I'm still down on the overall operation.
I was happy they got the win at Auburn,
and oddly feel good going into this week.
You got time for another call, Shannon?
Yep, let's go to Mo.
Mo. Go ahead, Mo.
I was just listening to the truth.
Apparently, he ain't right on nothing because Roger Bird is from Corb,
but he's not from Henderson.
I knew I thought he was from Corbyn,
but I thought maybe there was another Roger Bird he was talking about from Henderson.
Is that it?
All right.
Appreciate the phone call.
A lot of Regent Two talk over here.
Yeah, the Bird family down in Corbyn definitely very famous,
and Roger Bird is probably the best player they ever come out of Corbyn.
I thought maybe there might be another Roger Bird he was talking about.
Well, that takes a hit with truth's credibility
because I was actually going to defend him about the tickets that he said Matt promised him.
But, you know, if he's just making up players from Henderson,
I don't know if I can believe him on the ticket thing either.
Now, before we leave and have a good cast join his Shane,
let's play this Tony Romo thing real quick.
Okay.
If you haven't heard it, Tony Romo during his Sunday NFL game,
primetime game
had a moment
I don't know what's the best way to put it
you've not heard this yet
I work for the NFL and recorded cover zero
just yesterday and don't even know what you're talking about
well this is something
you may have never heard during a NFL broadcast
before so Shane let's go ahead and hear this is Tony Romo
he's fine and you'll see right here
and then another hold right there
I think it was
you're all right
I don't know I don't know what that was
I don't know what he was doing
Was he on screen?
I only have the audio.
No, I think it was a play.
He was showing a play.
And I had a moment like he was on the toilet.
That sounded like a little bit.
It was a bizarre kid.
Can you just play the last clip there?
That was the first time I've heard that.
The last couple seconds?
Yeah, I mean, it is odd.
If I were watching that game, he made that noise,
I would wonder what's going on.
What caused that?
What's wrong?
Is he okay?
It might be the first answer to this.
I hope he gets that looked at it and checked out.
All right, we take a break.
Cash Daniel is in the house.
We're going to talk UK football.
Get an update on his wrestling career as well.
Ryan Drew and Shannon.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving.

the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where
sports slice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down
the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're
going straight to the source, the athletes themselves. Their locker room stories, their reaction,
in the moment and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

This linebacker walks up to me,
he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave
at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue of 42.
