Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Listen to Sports Slice on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?
Starting point is 00:01:28 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? Starting point is 00:03:06 It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Let's go here live as we get ready. Kentucky and Louisville. Tonight, 8 o'clock. Games at 8, not 7. It's at 8, not 7 tonight in Louisville. We are here at Beer Nose in Southern Indiana, Dine in or Carry Out. There's a neighborhood beer,
Starting point is 00:03:25 today, including one right there next to Yom Center. We're at the one in New Albany in Charlestown, Charleston Crossing, tonight, by the way, if you're in Lexington at KS. Bar, we have those really cool KS Bar makers mark glasses with the wax on the bottom. If you watch the game, if you come watch the game, I think they're starting to serve them at 5.30 maybe. I think that's right. You might call the bar to make sure, but you get an AL8 slushy. You can take the glass home with you. I think we've got a couple hundred, I think. I don't know exactly what it is, but it's something like that. But come watch the game there tonight.
Starting point is 00:04:00 It should be a great atmosphere, and you get a collector's glass that I made them. I called and said, you've got to save me one because I want to make sure I have it. So Ryan's already got one at his house with all his other KS bar glasses. We stole one for the promo we shot yesterday. I decided to maybe just keep that one for myself. I did ask him to do a promo. I said, make it kind of classy, and he's wearing that stupid big hat. Oh, I saw it.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I already saw it. I said, yep, that's Ryan. I can't get over the fact that six and a half points. I really can't. We're the number one Kim Palm team in America in case you didn't. I know that stat is early. But how are we a six and a half point underdog in this case? I'm real thrown off because I made my bet yesterday.
Starting point is 00:04:41 I bet more than I normally do. In fact, I took my account down to zero. And then I just had to make a deposit and bet more, which I don't normally condone double downing, but six and a half in a rivalry game that they've, again, The four times they've won in decades was by three points every time. So I'm getting six and a half. Apparently, 85% of the early money is on Louisville and 84% of the tickets are on Louisville.
Starting point is 00:05:05 A lot of people are going to be losing money. I hope that's right. All right, a couple things here. First of all, last night, shout out to our friends at EKU, Eastern Kentucky University. They opened up their new gym last night by playing Western Kentucky University and the other big state rivalry. Western won, but Eastern opened up their new gym. I hear it's really nice.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Hopefully we'll get to go there sometime, but Western won the game. It was actually a one and a half point spread, so they thought Eastern had a chance, but Western ended up winning. And you know, I both said during the commercial break, so glad they're playing that rivalry again. They're doing a home and home, so I love it. And a shout out to Western for doing it, because they don't have to.
Starting point is 00:05:43 I mean, they play a road game at Eastern. That's not something that normally they would do, and they've reunited it to do it. I think that's cool. Western got a big game from freshman Mello Boone, from Frederick Douglass High School had 14 points last night. So shout out to him. Go Broncos.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Wow, look at you with a shoutout. Let's give some credit to our guy, Reed Shepard, who, after a tough start, he had a tough start to the season, played a high-profile national game and kind of got eaten up. But since then, has kind of turned it around in his last five games, Drew. He's averaging 14 points a game. There's a stat I saw this season he's shooting over 40 percent. from three, and he has over three steals a game. And in the last 20 years, the only other player to do that is a guy named Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:06:30 So that's a pretty good comparison for him. Reed, after a tough, tough start, starting to find his way. Yeah, I've heard that Curry guy. That's a good comparison. The opening night, he did not look good. There was a big reaction to that. Twitter having his way making fun of his defense. But he's really improved.
Starting point is 00:06:47 I think it was their game, was it the Bucks maybe, Milwaukee? Regardless, that's when he really brought. broke out. And then a couple days ago, I saw Kevin Durant, just put a picture of him on Instagram with like no context. Looks like that got a little relationship going there. So I'm enjoying that Reid's going to be a part of a contender this year. Yeah, just some shout out to Kentucky guys that are in the league. First of all, Tyrese Maxie is like an MVP candidate. You know, if you want to see a good video, there's a video that was floating around social media of Tyrese in the Louisville game his year. I'd forgotten. He dominated Louisville in that game. And I mean,
Starting point is 00:07:22 absolutely dominated was the reason we won in Rupp Arena. He has become literally, I mean, he's an MVP candidate this year. He probably won't get it because his team stinks. But Ryan, I mean, Tyrese Maxie, who would have ever imagined he would be so good? Yeah, we all were pretty proud this week when you saw the player of the week in the Western Conference was Shea Gildes Alexander, and the player of the week in the Eastern Conference was Tyrese Maxie. I mean, that's pretty awesome. You see two Kentucky guys do that. Also, shout out Amari Williams, back-to-back 25-point games for his G-League Celtics team as well. The main, I think the main red claws or something, but nevertheless,
Starting point is 00:07:58 he will get a chance to play this year because of the Celtics stink too. So at some point, they'll bring him up and he'll get a chance to play. Being a Celtics fan, I'm like, why are we not bringing him up now? He's ready to go. We need some help. So I think he will get a lot of minutes. At some point, he'll get to do that. So big congrats to all those former UK guys.
Starting point is 00:08:17 One football thing. Let's talk about the injuries, Ryan. I mean, we had all this great news from the game, but now some bad news. Two of our best defensive players, Jordan Lovett and Sam Green, both out for the year, according to Mark Stubes with injuries. They do think Alex Safari will be able to come back after the Tennessee Tech from his injury. But those are two of probably our five or six best defenders. We lose them both in the game against Florida.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Sam Green would maybe been playing better than anybody on the defensive unit. He was really shaping into having a great year. hate to see it and Jordan Lovett a senior from right down the road at North Harden high school he was becoming he's been the time he's been starting for like the last four years you hate to see see that experience go they got a lot of young guys though they feel good about stepping up yeah I feel really bad for Lovett you know senior days coming up he's been playing since he's a freshman he's local I don't know if he has any of the loopholes to play more football like everyone's been using here lately but it stinks that it happened right before his last game because
Starting point is 00:09:16 he's been a big part of that defense all four years he has But I will note, even though I hate to miss them both, especially love it because he's a senior. Both those guys went out kind of early in the Florida game. Those dudes that played behind them continue to play. And they were all freshmen and sophomores. I think I saw that at the end of the Florida game, or like, you know, not the end-in-end, but like early in the second half, nine of our 11 defenders on the field chain and were freshmen or sophomore. I mean, that's, you know, if you're wanting to talk about building for the future, that's a pretty good side.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Great to know you got some depth there on the defensive side of the ball. And, you know, Brad White's got this defense locked down the last couple of weeks. I mean, you said it yesterday. You very well could have had a shutdown in back-to-back weeks in the SEC. So they've been really good. There was a lot of pushback online yesterday with people from our topics, especially on KS board, Drew, on our topic from yesterday about me kind of getting frustrated at Jerry during the postgame show about the Auburn, Florida, people acting like it wasn't a big win.
Starting point is 00:10:16 I'm only tripling down on that take, Drew. I am, there is still, and I get it, there are people who want Mark Stoops replaced. I'm not saying that's an unreasonable opinion. That might be my opinion at the end of the year. We'll see what happens. But I still don't understand how we have parts of our fans that think we're too good to get excited about beating Auburn in Florida. I mean, how can you, where do we get off acting like that we're better than beating Auburn in Florida back to back for the first time? in the history we've never beaten those two teams in the same year in the history of our school ever ever
Starting point is 00:10:53 i mean that's like where do we get off acting like that's not a big deal yeah i know the the people that are being overly negative i think that just says a lot about them as people i don't know how you can't get happy about it went over florida and it's not just that they won they destroyed them you sure make the argument florida's not very good i don't think they're very good but kentucky almost shut them out and could have scored 10 more points and got in the 40s if they wanted to and Auburn, that's a road game. Sure they have their coaching issues. You're 10.5 point underdog at Auburn and went out right,
Starting point is 00:11:22 and you're an underdog to Florida and beat them by 30. I don't know how you can't smile about that. I would be interested to see. I'm sure it's happened, but I don't think it's happened much. I would be interested to see how many times we've won back-to-back SEC games in our history and held the teams we've played to a combined 10 points. How many times you think that's happened in our history? and then throw out games including Vandy, and it's probably never happened, or it hadn't happened much.
Starting point is 00:11:49 So I don't know how I'm going to enjoy it, even if I do think at the end of the year we should make a change, you can't act like that's – and one of them being on the road, you can't act like that's not impressed. I mean, that's what – it gets my boxers in a wad, man. Please don't say that. That's a visual. Sir, right here. I saw your face. Just so you know, I felt the same way.
Starting point is 00:12:12 I felt the exact same way. You looked away. I had the same reaction, but go ahead. You know, if you want to make an argument, like you said, for Stoops to be replaced at the end of the year, okay, you can probably make a good argument. But if you can't celebrate a win over Florida, I mean, what kind of fan are you? I've just an unhappy fan. Some fans are just miserable, and they want to be miserable, and that's just the way it is. I don't like them.
Starting point is 00:12:35 They probably don't like you either. And they probably don't like that you said they were hillbillies a minute ago. I'm king of the hillbilly So I call you a hillbilly You know you're not You're king of the flatlands Who's up next? Doing good up next
Starting point is 00:12:50 Doing good Go ahead sir Gentlemen I'm doing good I hope you're doing well Just a quick Public service announcement Matt beware of falling
Starting point is 00:13:00 Aguanas in Florida They're apparently getting frozen in the trees falling out of them And hitting people on top of the head So watch out for that Anybody going down to Florida something else related to the state of Florida are riptides, which are really dangerous,
Starting point is 00:13:15 where the big blue wave is going to go into the KFC Bum Center tonight, and we are going to wash away all of those Louisville fans. I think they actually have a chance to be relevant in college basketball. This is going to be a double-digit win by Kentucky. Well, double digits up until about the final minute or so. They might hit a meaningless three that we don't even guard. The winner of the player of the game is going to be my. Muhammad Diabante, 15 rebounds, nine points, five assists, four blocks, and three steals.
Starting point is 00:13:49 So we really look for you tonight. So big blue. I appreciate the call. I really like your pick of Mohamed Diabate. This is a game, Drew, that I think he could play really well. But, you know, Louisville, we'll see how physically tough they are. I've seen some of their fans questioning the toughness. Diabate is one guy that is tough.
Starting point is 00:14:06 He, you got to remember, he just came through two years of war. with Alabama Auburn where both teams were really good. And you may have watched some of those games in the last couple of years. They were, the Alabama Aubur games the last few years were some of the best basketball games that existed. And Diabate played well in all of those games. If he's used to Alabama Auburn when Pearl was there and both teams were top 10, I think he'll be ready for this one as well.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Yeah, I can't believe we haven't even mentioned his name yet. He'll be a big piece tonight. And when we were talking about Pryor's comments and how Garrison will react, I bet you won't, Pryor won't say that to Dio, Diabate's face either. Yeah, he's a big dude. Prior can say that walking out of the room of a press conference, but I bet when Diabate is next to him, he won't be saying it because that's a guy that will take it outside if it needs to go outside. I mean, M&M is tough, but then you can actually walk up next to somebody else, and he might not be quite as chesty. I think that could be the case today,
Starting point is 00:15:01 Shannon. I'm looking, I think Diabate, he's got a chance to have a big game. Yeah, I think Prior may regret saying that and I think Kentucky's going to come out and probably try to do play very physical. I think it's going to be a very physical game. It's been chippy in years past. This rivalry always has been. I also think this will be for a lot of America, at least the ones that don't have YouTube TV. This will be for a lot of America, the first college basketball game they've watched this year. I mean, because the other good games have been on when football was on and people, we have the night kind of to ourselves tonight. This is part of the reason I do think they're playing this game right now. We're on ESPN.
Starting point is 00:15:37 We're on at 8 o'clock. There's no football tonight of any importance. There's an NBA game, but, you know, who cares? I actually think this will be for a lot of the country, Ryan, the first college basketball game they watch. And it will be a great spot like Jay Billis is going to be at the game. Like, this is the sort of centerpiece of the sports world tonight, which is, to be fair, it's the first time Kentucky's Louisville's had that in a long time where we've been kind of the main event of a sports night.
Starting point is 00:16:07 Yeah, usually that's about the time we play that Champions Classic on a Tuesday night kind of introduce the world. You know, it's time for college basketball season. Yeah, that's next week, yeah. So now Kentucky kind of gets to slide into that spot to tipping off the college basketball season. You'll go back to Diabate. If we're going to war with them tonight, I'm getting behind that guy. He's the guy pushing out in front and say, go big fella, take care of it for us,
Starting point is 00:16:27 because I totally trust him as a leader. Yeah, if there's a fight, Shannon, that's the dude that, if they had a brawl tonight and you say who's the most likely to walk out of there, I think you would take him. Him and Garrison both, like a tag team. You know, they're like demolition. I think Garrison would wear himself out. Garrison's one of the, he'll be hitting everybody and they don't get tired.
Starting point is 00:16:45 But I would take Diabate walking out of a ring with all these guys. We're trying to figure out on the pre-shell. We were going to pick a guy off the bench to be our enforcer, because you don't want your enforcer to be a starter. Is there anybody that we have that's off the bench? No. I would just bench Brany Garrison and then bring him off the game. I mean, we don't.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Speaking of bench and Brayson. I'm not saying we want to do that, but there was a stat that came out that I saw this morning. You could make a strong argument that our best players so far, collectively are Jalen Lowe, O'A, Aberdeen, Diabate, and Moreno. They've played together five possessions this season. You want to know what happened to those five possessions? Five baskets, 13 points. Five baskets and five possessions, 13 points with that lineup. It'd be interesting to see if that's a lineup we see as the year goes on, Drew, a lot more.
Starting point is 00:17:36 I mean the case. Pope saw that and did not play at those two games to not let Louisville in on a little secret he's got in his pocket. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own
Starting point is 00:19:10 experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. It becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
Starting point is 00:19:35 because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing,

Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion-dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
Starting point is 00:21:22 I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Beer Nose. A little bit of a cold morning, but still a great day. Huge crowd out here, as always, the best folks come to Beer Nose. Even though it's cold outside yesterday, Ryan, it was colder in Lexington, Kentucky yesterday than in any major city in the lower 48 states.
Starting point is 00:21:53 It's the only time that's been the case in Lexington in the last eight years. Yesterday, Lexington was colder than anyone else. the United States. And between 3 o'clock and 8 o'clock, there were black ice everywhere. And there were like 120 accidents reported in the Lexington area last night. Is that right? Yeah, 120 accidents. Because all the – they shut the overpasses down because it was just black ice everywhere.
Starting point is 00:22:16 Interesting. I did not hear that. Look at you, Mr. Statt. Can you call me Bill Meck. I won't. All right. So I've had a lot of people write me, Drew, saying that there was a rumor online that Oweigh – Otega, Owe.
Starting point is 00:22:32 was out tonight. Oh, no. And hang on, hang on, just everybody's slow down. And then, and asking if I thought that was correct. I think that rumor comes from, they put a team picture out yesterday during their practice, and Oway was in different gear than the rest of the team. He was like not in practice gear. And I think people then extrapolated that he wasn't, what wasn't playing. But he did the interview yesterday.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I can't wait to get out there. What people forget is they're focusing on that picture. He did an interview yesterday where he said, I can't wait to see him during the game. So there's no reason for me to assume he's not playing. Yeah, we get two players on the day before a game, and they sent out Oway and Chandler, and Oway is talking about can't wait to get on the court, can't wait to this, we're going to do that. Unless he, like, slipped getting on the bus from the press conference because they drove to Louisville right after the press conference. Yeah, they're going to the black ice.
Starting point is 00:23:25 So I don't know. But, I mean, there is something fishy. As we said, Lons don't move three points in a moment like that. I mean, Trent Noah, there's a chance he might not play. He was in a boot, but he wouldn't change the line like that, would he, Ryan? I wouldn't think so. I wouldn't think so. And, you know, we've talked about how there's these spies in almost all the programs around the country.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Spies. And they'll, like, tip off people. So maybe somebody got tipped off. Like a Draft King spy? A draft king spy? Well, I mean, that's, I don't think that's happening either. It would be interesting, though. I just think it's overconfidence.
Starting point is 00:23:58 I mean, look, if you go through, I will say. this. If you go through November in college basketball, generally speaking, home teams and home and homes have crazy good records in November. It starts to change a little bit in December, but in November, like, when people are playing their first road game, it is very hard to win, Shannon, which is why if we win, I think it will be an extremely, I mean, to me, this is our hardest game. I mean, this is probably, this could be our first or second hardest game of the year. the year. Honestly. I mean, it could be this one maybe at Florida, but like, this could be our hardest game of the year. So while I definitely want to win, I also think we have to recognize this is probably
Starting point is 00:24:46 the toughest game we play all year because it's on their home floor. And of course, it means more than other games, but it is just one game at the end of the day after all. And, you know, you're not used to playing on the road this early in the year. You're going on the road in some really tough SEC environment. So it's good to get this one. But I think under your belt. I think there's a lot. I think They're better. Yeah. Do we play at Alabama? No, do we play at Alabama?
Starting point is 00:25:07 I think we do, actually. So maybe, so maybe. So that one will be tough too. But like, I just, you know, we do have to understand, like, how hard this game is. Who's up first? God, Dan, up first. Dan, go ahead, Dan. Yes, Matt.
Starting point is 00:25:22 I just want to give a shout-out, or maybe you can for my daughters, Amanda and Brittany, the servers that are working there at Barronos for you guys. They always look forward to the KS. radio show I'm coming there. And I just thought maybe you can give a job. Amanda and Brittany, shout out to Amanda and Brittany. You can, hello there. They're great servers.
Starting point is 00:25:42 Hopefully people will tip them well. Along those lines, before I let you go, before I go to the next one, someone I'm told drove from Idaho Falls. Is there someone here from Idaho Falls? You flew from Idaho. Everybody give these people a round of applause. Idaho Falls. to Beer Nose in New Albany, Indiana.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Not a direct flight from what I hear. But go ahead. What else you got? Oh, that's pretty much it. I'm calling from Banner, Elf, North Carolina, and we got about eight inches of snow. But that's all I got. Go cats.
Starting point is 00:26:17 Thanks. Well, thank you for keeping me up to date on your weather. Who's next? Felix is up next. Felix. Go ahead, Felix. Hey, guys. Headed to the Yom Center tonight with my boys to watch the Cats win money line.
Starting point is 00:26:30 and I got a question, I got a statement about Mark Stoops. I want Mark Stoops to be our coach. You know, however, but I want the old Mark Stoops, the passionate Mark Stoops, the red face getting after the refs, Mark Stoops. And I've got a question for Ryan. You know, Ryan, how committed are you to what happens for the rest of football season this year? You're the MVP of the show, and I feel like getting slammed through a table.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Whoa, whoa, whoa. Kentucky Ford. Yeah, I mean, we, The thing is you can't, and I appreciate the call, you can't overuse Drew the slamming through tables. If, you know, if every day is Christmas, then no day is Christmas. Like, you can't put him through a table every single day. I think we did that. You know, it may be if we beat Vandy, maybe we think about doing it for a little, but I think right now we've got to be careful.
Starting point is 00:27:22 We don't want to overuse that. I'm with you. Let's keep that club in the bag for a while. Maybe only use it for Florida games since it's two and O against Florida. you know they only come here a couple years now or don't know what it will be moving forward long term but anytime Florida comes to Lexington then we'll put Ryan through the table
Starting point is 00:27:38 you think you think right is the which also they come back next year you think are we do we play them again next year here Florida's back in Lexington you think he is the MVP of the show absolutely he is of course yes but here's the thing you know we got a big game tonight on the most valuable
Starting point is 00:27:52 don't you think we need a Ryan Limit Pep Talk Matt I mean Kentucky Lobo no no no slow that we we we we we we We use those. That's not overused. Yeah, the problem with those is I think we've lost like four straight games with those. And I'm not willing to risk that for you of L. But I think this game is too important.
Starting point is 00:28:09 We'll save that maybe for at Auburn or at. Sorry, you've got to keep your Colin Chandler shirt on today. That's a nice shirt. You got the dunk, the Colin Chandler dunk made into a T-shirt. Tim Seaburger, Drew's got one on underneath his shirt right now. I'm rocking mine under. We're wearing it for good luck. I was cold.
Starting point is 00:28:24 A guy we haven't even really talked about tonight. He could be a huge factor coming off the bench tonight. Yeah, well, tell Tim, Thank you for my version of that. Yeah, me too. We appreciate it. We are here at Beirnows here in Southern Indiana. Cats and Cards, 8 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Line is still 6.5. It just went up to 88% of the money is now. What is going on? What is we missing? I don't know. I don't like it, though. It's going to make it even more fun when we beat them. We'll take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:28:51 This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. This segment is sponsored by cornbread hemp. I'm going to use this segment. This is a cornbread hemp ad, but I'm actually going to use it, and I'm sure they would want me to do to give you just some quick information. As you know, they made an agreement last night to reopen the government, which is good.
Starting point is 00:29:15 But included in that agreement, Mitch McConnell slipped in at the last minute a provision that basically bans full-spectrum hemp products. It has nothing to do with the government opening, but they threw it in there. Rand Paul, I got to give a shout out to Rand Paul, who we don't, we probably, Rand Paul has a wood fan. But I want to give him a shout out because he's fighting it.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Now, he doesn't, it's tough because he could stop it for a week, but then that keeps the government shut down for a week, which isn't a good thing. But anyway, point being, the full spectrum CBD products, which I've used to sleep, which many of you have used as well, they are potentially going to be banned, thanks to Mitch McConnell in the coming future. You still have time to call your representatives and senators. I hope people will do that.
Starting point is 00:30:03 I think it's a pretty shameful thing to do something like that, especially in a bill that has nothing to do with it, which is what they're doing. They're using the desire to get the government reopened to throw that in, which I think is awful. But I do want to give a shout out to Rand Paul for fighting it. And since it may get banned, cornbreadhip.com, you probably want to go. pretty soon and get your order.
Starting point is 00:30:26 The promo code is KSR cornbread hip.com. A couple quick things. First of all, this is a crazy story. So Delta State was supposed to play Kentucky State in football this weekend. Okay?
Starting point is 00:30:42 Yeah. Kentucky State and Frankfurt, Delta States in Mississippi. I don't understand how this could happen. Kentucky State calls Delta State on Monday and says, hey, we can't play. We accidentally double booked. We're supposed to play somebody else Saturday.
Starting point is 00:31:00 They treated it like it was like a haircut appointment. I have two appointments. So Kentucky State says to Delta State, sorry, we can't play. We're playing this other school. My bad. The Delta State people are very angry, understandably. They're like, you're telling us on Monday.
Starting point is 00:31:19 Nobody noticed this until Monday before the game is on Saturday. What do you make of the, oh, no, we accidentally scheduled two games on this day? I think you just say, how does this not get noticed? I mean, sure, when you schedule it with contracts, maybe overlooked it. But you start printing. By the way, is nine and one. The team they're playing instead is two and eight. Do you think that makes a difference?
Starting point is 00:31:41 That's a big difference. But, Mike, when you're putting the schedule on your website and the posters and the graphics, how do you not notice you have two opponents on one date? So it just so happened, Shannon, that the team they're, they could, The 9-1 team, hey, we can't come. Two and eight, we're gotcha, we're ready. I think they should be forced to do a split squad. You've got to play both games at the same time.
Starting point is 00:32:01 That's right. You've got enough players to make it happen. That's one of the crazier things I've ever heard. Can you imagine Kentucky being like, sorry, Tennessee Tech. We're playing somebody else this weekend. We forgot. This is an awful, embarrassing thing to happen to Kentucky State. I mean, it stinks at duck poop.
Starting point is 00:32:16 It's like they knew the mistake. They were going to see who had the best team and then decide the last minute who they wanted to play. That's a great point. Like if it were like maybe the second game, maybe you excuse it. We're laid into the schedule here. How did nobody notice it? I think it's supposed to be Kentucky State's last game.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Why do you not know that? I like Shannon's idea of play a double header. Just play a double header over there. Double header? Yeah. In two different cities. Sure. Why not?
Starting point is 00:32:38 Okay. How did the staff members in charge of scouting the teams not be like, why are you watching that team? I'm watching this team. Like, what's? I don't know. Awful. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:47 We have some breaking news, Rick. All right. Mitch Barnhart this morning spoke to the champions club. Champions Blue. That's the new, basically, entity that's running UK athletics. And he made some comments about the football team. I'm not going to read them all, but let me read the most important ones. He talks about the team, and he says, I think the win speaks to the leadership in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:33:13 In today's environments, it's hard sometimes to find folks that the competitive fire burns and stays strong. then I'll go to the end because this is probably the thing people care about the most. It's been a decade plus with Stoops that he and I have been together. We've journeyed this thing before and we've been together a long time. He loves Kentucky and we love him. And we just want to keep making progress and doing what we're doing. We will sit down at the end of the year like we always do and sit there and say, hey, where are we?
Starting point is 00:33:45 What are you thinking? What are we thinking? And we'll get to this spot. We'll do it at the end of the year. that won't change. What are your thoughts about that comment? Yeah, it sounds like he would be back. I mean, because if you were wanting to move on, you need to be ready. But he didn't say he'll be back. He didn't. He'll say we'll sit down and talk about it. Yeah, it just doesn't sound like he's already going through the scenario that could be getting rid of him and you need to be prepared for that.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Sounds like he's just going to wait and see how his plans out and be like, all right, let's sit down and now figure it out. Sounds like he's going to do what he does every year. But, you know, if there's one thing that I do agree with him on is that Stoops does care about this program, cares about the state. If you listen to his comments after the Auburn game, you can hear the emotion in his voice. But I don't think that that would indicate that he's going to get rid of Stoops. So you both see that as a comment that makes it more likely he's back. Slightly. All right, Ryan?
Starting point is 00:34:44 I agree with him. I feel like, I always thought all along. Mitch Martin would not make a move to them were mathematically eliminated for making a bowl game. Well, they've won the last two games. They're still eligible for it. I just don't think Mitch is a type of guy that's going to give up on somebody that he has devoted a lot of love and care and money to. I just don't think he's going to do it. It's interesting because my reaction is not the same as you're us.
Starting point is 00:35:05 I mean, I read that and say he has a chance right there to say we're going to get together at the end of the year and figure out what we're going to do to make sure we're set for next year. Instead, he says, we're going to see where we're at. We're going to see where you're at. That's almost suggesting they're not necessarily at the exact same place, right? Normally we would just say we're going to figure out what we need to do next. He's almost acknowledging a there's us and there's him. So I'm not saying it makes it more likely he's gone,
Starting point is 00:35:39 but I read that as saying uncertainty's here. I mean, why would you- It wasn't a true vote of confidence? Why would you phrase it like that unless you, like, I mean, I'm not, again, I'm not trying to say he's going to let him go. I don't even think that's necessarily true. But when he says, we'll sit down at the end of the year. Let me read the quote here.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Well, now I have to pay for the herald. So, but he said like we do every year. I do pay for the herald, but it's, I'm not going to go ahead. So him throwing in the line like we do every year. Well, but it is, you know, I think they had that conversation. When he acknowledges, there's a separation between who we are and who he is, I don't know if you do that. Like he's not going to say about Mark Pope.
Starting point is 00:36:22 He's not going to say, hey, Mark Pope, at the end of the year, we're going to sit down and see where you are and see where we are. He's not going to say that about the, you know what I mean? I just wish Mitch already knew where we are a little more than I think he does. It seems like he's generally going to wait until the season's over to put everything on the table and figure it out where other schools are backchanneling and having things, may not have working behind the scenes, but you're at least putting out feelers of who will be interested and should be on your list.
Starting point is 00:36:47 It's interesting, though. I have a different view of what he said there than you all did. Who's up next? Mike is up next. Mike, go ahead, Mike. I just calling him to see, I think this game tonight's going to come down. Because both teams run great offense. We know that.
Starting point is 00:37:07 I think it's going to come down to physicality, defense, and end-game adjustment. Because you know they haven't shown anything yet in either team that they're going. They're going to run a lot more different things and sets tonight than they have been in these exhibition. games. I say go get your money tonight. Put it all on Kentucky. There's no way they're beating this. I love the confidence. I agree with you that defense will make the difference. Part of the reason, Ryan, I really like this team is, you know, the old phrase defense travels. I think defense does travel. If you show up with your defense, you've got a chance to win every game, even if you don't hit shots. You know, our defense has been awesome, except for a little period in the second half
Starting point is 00:37:48 against Georgetown. And other than that, It's been awesome, and we didn't have our two point guards in that game. So I do think that matters to some extent. You had Colin Chandler trying to stop ball, which is not necessarily his strength. I don't know, Ryan. I think defense will make it to where we're going to be in every single game this year and gives us a great chance today. Don't you feel like going against anybody with Aberdeen out there and Lowe?
Starting point is 00:38:11 We were going to Otega. You've got three guys that can lock somebody down on the perimeter. I don't know if Lowe can, but Aberdeen can. Yeah. And so can O'way. And so then Lowe can guard the worst of the three perimeter players. But Aberdeen and O'way, I think, can lock guys down. And the defense has been my biggest takeaway, even though we've had fun with Lowe and Chandler's dunk and scoring 107 points.
Starting point is 00:38:33 And it's not just the on-ball defense. They're team defense. They're helping. They're active. Guys aren't taking plays off. They're guarding the whole possession. And that's pretty rare in the first week of the season. You usually kind of grow into that.
Starting point is 00:38:45 But they've been kind of outside of the Georgia debacle. they've been locked down defensively. They can put a defensive lineup out there that's a really good defensive lineup. I mean, they, when they, when they, they, their starters, Aberdeen Oway, Diabate, and Garrison are four really good defenders. Now with Lowe and Chandler, you're going to lose a little bit of your defense, but, but those four, you got a hard time scoring on those guys. Yeah, and I know it was just Valpo, but, you know, locking those guys down like they did defensively. And then not even on the other side of the ball. I mean, just with Jalen Lowe back, offensively, they look like a good.
Starting point is 00:39:18 completely different team. Yeah. Before Chandler learned how to play offense there at the end of the season, he was, when he played, he was in as a defensive stopper. He actually shut down Davis in that Arkansas second half. Which is why it surprised me that he was so bad in that Georgetown game. Maybe it was just a one game thing, but he was really bad defensively against Georgetown.
Starting point is 00:39:36 We will take a break. Come back. One more segment, Kentucky and Louisville tonight at the YUM Center. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. Make the next year the year you love your home with Estaterrenos. Dot com. All right, so let's talk a couple of college basketball things besides us tonight. There are three ranked matchups tonight.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Texas Tech is in Illinois. Clay Craton goes out to the West Coast to play Gonzaga. But then, Ryan, you're going to like this. Duke, we don't like Duke, but let's give them some credit. They're playing a road game tonight at Army. They're playing at West Point. Be the first time they've done that. First time Army has hosted a top 25 team in 35 years.
Starting point is 00:44:03 They will host Duke tonight at Army. That game's on the CBS Sports Network. They're going to do a whole Veterans Day thing. I bet it'll actually look really, really cool. Probably Coach Kay, he went to West Point, coached at West Point, where he went to Duke, it's probably going to maybe honor him in some capacity. He make a big deal out of something like that. Because it's kind of rare for Duke to go play at West Point, a school like that.
Starting point is 00:44:23 I mean, they have it. And then to play on Veterans Day, Drew, I think that's kind of a cool thing for them to do. Very cool. And I always want our Army to win. It's actually bad when they lose. But tonight especially, we need to get this win. You definitely want the Army to win. Shannon, what about the story of the guy who was arrested,
Starting point is 00:44:39 or I think there's an arrest warrant? I'm sure if they've arrested him yet for terroristic threatening, for threatening Jeff Brom, the Louisville quarterback, and the coaching staff after the loss to Cal. Presumably it was a, I would assume a U.S. fan angry about the game, although they haven't said. But crazy story. I didn't know they had Louisville fans in Texas. Eight counts of terroristic threatening. Yeah, I mean, just for losing a game to Cal.
Starting point is 00:45:06 It's a bad loss. I mean, I don't know if it's that bad loss. I mean, yeah, we just have Garrett over here calling it. out players because they suck. It doesn't make Garrett Lucas bad. Not terrorizing people like this guy is. So, yeah, it's really bad situation. Really bad situation.
Starting point is 00:45:21 One of the more crazy ones I've seen. Tomorrow night, by the way, I'm hosting trivia. You can now call the bar and keep your spot. I'm working on questions in between the game and in between the game and the post game show tonight. But get your spot. Are you going to finally bring a team? You've been absent.
Starting point is 00:45:39 We're efforting the dream team. There's no efforting. coming tomorrow i am working on it sir as we speak i want to be there i got to have a team though do you really need a team if you if you can't find your regular team there will be people that will play i don't want to play with paul's raising his hand paul's one now you got one you got no paul forever there's pa so there's more coming who's up next adam is up next adam go ahead adam what's up guys uh don't know if you know this but since uh billy lesby was hired lovel has beaten kentucky four times in basketball and all by every single game they won was by three points so hammer the
Starting point is 00:46:19 you got to turn on the first hour of the show and if you turn on the first hour of the show you would have heard that exact stat from drew franklin although he might disagree with you drew you would say how many times have they won one i don't know why you include the gillespie years if you just start after him we can throw those out but there's been two since cow was hired that's a better stat I'm saying hammered that UK plus six. Now, I appreciate the call. I do like that a lot as, excuse me, is the bet to make tonight. Yeah, I mean, I'm not normally into the trends that go back that far,
Starting point is 00:46:53 but if they're only four wins in 20-something years is about three points. It says a lot about a six and a half point spread tonight when we have a team we really like at Kentucky. Let's talk about what we think the environment will be this evening. Louisville, probably, you know, we have not played them in a situation like this ever Tuesday night. They've had a really hard time getting midweek crowds. I do think tonight will be wild.
Starting point is 00:47:18 Do we think our guys will be able to handle what they see tonight just from a crowd standpoint? I think they will. You know, we got some guys that have played in the Yom Center with Jalen Lowe. Always been there. Well, I guess O'A hasn't. Jaylon Lowe's been there. Jail Lowe's been there and played well. I think he lost to Louisville twice, but he had big games both times and his play against a lot of these guys.
Starting point is 00:47:39 He's going to see on the court. We got guys who have played in a really good road environment, so I don't think it'll be anything that these guys haven't seen before. I almost think we'll step up and thrive in a situation like that because of kind of the dogs we've got on the team this year. The key for me to the game, I promise you, I won't say it all year, but I'll say it tonight is Jaylon Lowe because he's played these guys. He's the only dude out there that has played these guys. I mean, I guess O.A. did last year, but I mean, he played them in both those games were the one at Pitt was back and forth, back and forth. It was a battle. I'm looking forward to see.
Starting point is 00:48:13 I think he'll have a great game. Yeah, I know that it's the road atmosphere, first one in the year, all that. I really think Kentucky fans are going to make a little noise in there to get them some comfortable. Make them comfortable. We're going to hear Go Big Blue at certain points through the TV throughout the night. Even though Louisville will obviously have the dominant part of the crowd, I think Kentucky fans will be in there to help out a little bit. So our prediction is, what, 20% of the crowd, Kentucky fans? I think that's probably about right.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Yeah. We're going higher. Like you said, they don't go to games anyway. That upper bowl may be a lot of blue up there. I will say this. I've always impressed every year in the camera shot, there will be Kentucky fans who have bought the season tickets from Louisville fans
Starting point is 00:48:54 and are sitting there in the camera shot. That always is impressive to me. Now, Kentucky is a six and a half point underdog at Louisville. Kentucky's number nine in the country. Louisville's number 12. This has only happened a handful of times in the last 25. years where both teams have been ranked in the top 15. We get it this year. Shannon, I'll let you start. Katz and Louisville give me a score and an MVP today. I'll take Kentucky winning tonight.
Starting point is 00:49:21 79, 74, and for the sake of my parlay, I'm going to say Otega Oway is the MVP tonight. O'Dayette O'Hawai, all right, Ryan Lemon. I'll go Kentucky 87 to 80, and my MVP is a guy we haven't even mentioned. He knows more about this rivalry than anybody else. His daddy played football against Louisville. He spun Dave Ragoans helmet around. Jasper Johnson grew up living and dying this rivalry. He also was teammates with Mikel Brown and Team USA last summer.
Starting point is 00:49:48 That's a good point, yeah. So I think he comes ready to play Jasper off the bench with a big game tonight. Got Jasper? Yep. I think you're going to end up picking Jasper every game. What about you? I really need a win tonight. It is my wedding anniversary. Happy anniversary. Happy anniversary to But I don't have a gift.
Starting point is 00:50:04 So I'm presenting the Kentucky win as our anniversary gifts. You don't have a gift? No, that's been a little busy lately. So I really need a win for that to come through. I'll say Kentucky does it 8480 and my MVP. I'll say Trent Noah plays and hits four threes. By the way, does anybody have a Beirnose sweatshirt that he could take home with it? The gift is supposed to be leather, I think, this year.
Starting point is 00:50:25 Everybody got leather? Clayton crew. I'll tell you, Mario, I was got leather pants. You can borrow his pants. It's exactly right. Hey, thank you to the folks here at Beard Nose. First of all, big round of applause to you. you guys for coming out. The Kentucky Louisville game over the years, it's always hard for me to watch
Starting point is 00:50:46 because I get so nervous, but one of the things I've enjoyed is beating them right here. There's nothing better than beating a team on their home court. Tonight, I think both these teams are very similar. By the end of the year, I think we're going to be better than them. But right now, we are on their home floor, so I think this game's a toss-up. But nevertheless, I think we get the ball, 10 seconds left, tied at 79. Jalen Lowe takes his man off the drivel, hits a little layup at the buzzer as it goes in. Cats win 8179.
Starting point is 00:51:18 Jalen Lowe is my MVP, and Kentucky continues the domination over the cards. Thank you all very much. We will be back at the pregame show at 5.30. Come watch at the bar tonight, get your makers mark class. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guide, Not quite.
