Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:03:12 Welcome back. It is hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287. Text Machine 772-774-5254. Got the South Laurel KSR Club here. one person writes in and says tell Bree. Where's Bree? There's two of them. Where's Bree?
Starting point is 00:03:34 Oh, it's one of you two. It says, I won't say the last name. Watch out you're being monitored. So I hope that's, I hope you're not. You're one of the teachers. You're not doing anything wrong. I can't see that being an issue. She's doing the monitoring.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Yes. You're doing the monitor. You are the monitor. All right. 859-280, 2280. Let's talk for just a second about going back to the Simmons thing. I heard an interesting comment yesterday that I actually kind of agree with but wanted your take-off. Here was the premise.
Starting point is 00:04:08 The premise was this, that going forward in college football, it's a two-part thing. Part one is Drew, Alabama's, Georgia's, et cetera, can't keep as many great players because they want to go play somewhere else and make money. We've talked about that a lot, right? You can't just stockpile them up on your third string on the bench. What Chuck Klausterman then said, I thought, was interesting, though. He said, so in a world where Alabama, Georgia, et cetera, doesn't guarantee you a stockpile of talent. Then as you're judging what is the best job,
Starting point is 00:04:45 you might sit there and say, well, how reasonable are the fans? Because I'm going to be able to get players at any school now, because I can go get the second string, Georgia and Alabama guys. He was talking about it with Lane Kiffin, but basically he was saying that he wonders if going forward, Ole Miss is not a better job than Florida and LSU, because he says you can go win eight or nine games at Old Miss, occasionally contend for the playoff,
Starting point is 00:05:13 and they will say you're the greatest thing ever. You can go do the exact same thing at LSU in Florida, and you will get fired. And nowadays, it may not be as easy to do it at Old Miss as it, is at Florida LSU, but it might be close because you can still pay the players, you can still go get guys. And he was like, I wonder if in the future, the idea of having the old miss, or having the LSU or the Florida job might not be what it was in the future. And I was, of course, thinking about that in the context of Kentucky or Indiana. Is that plausible? Could be. I've thought
Starting point is 00:05:50 that with Kiffin. If I were him, I would really consider staying because they're going to match the money. you're in the playoff conversation every year. Their expectations aren't nearly what they would be at other places. So I get it. I do worry on the basketball end, you know, we're good with Pope now. But will that just the way it applies to Alabama football with expectations in basketball. But I think the difference in basketball is a lot of these schools are not going to pay what we will. In football, I think everyone's going to pay.
Starting point is 00:06:18 And you can't hoard talent in basketball. But in basketball, I think there's only going to be a few schools that like go. pedal to the medal. So I don't think it applies much. His second thing was like there was a talent to being a coach for a long time.
Starting point is 00:06:36 And part of that talent was charisma. Specifically, did you have the charisma of walking into a guy's, a kid's house and convincing them to come? That that was a talent that, say, Nick Sabin had or John Calipari had.
Starting point is 00:06:52 And he was like, nowadays, that talent may not even matter anymore. That used to be a huge part of what it was to be a coach, and now it's like irrelevant. Now you just talk to the accountants. So like somebody, and we really like Vince Mero, but that was one of his talents. You wonder, does that talent become less important, Ryan,
Starting point is 00:07:13 in this age where it's like, well, you seem like a great guy, but how much am I going to make? That's what's come to, don't you think, that it's not a recruiting pitch from your coaches? It's, like Drew said, your account and your checkbook, how much money are you going to give me? That's what it's all about anymore. Remember Nick Savin said exactly that.
Starting point is 00:07:28 He said, now when I go into houses, they say, what are you paying me? That's the conversation. That's a big reason why he stepped away. So he was like, now almost being a good coach requires you to be a good general manager. To look at a guy and go, can I develop this guy, how good is he, blah, blah, blah, rather than being a salesperson. And that these coaches that were great salespeople, that just may be a talent that just isn't helpful anymore. more. I completely agree with that. Back before the money was just out in front and on the table,
Starting point is 00:07:58 you had to go in there and be a salesman. You had to make the pitch of why your school was better than other places. But now when there's a dollar amount, that's usually going to win out over your lodge or your system. I hadn't thought about it that explicitly, but it does make you wonder. And then the last thing, he told a story that I found fascinating. He said, Shannon, you'll like this, that Barry Switzer, when he was the coach of Oklahoma. When he would go recruit a kid, Before he would go in their house, he would go in the back and go through the garbage of the family. This is a true story. He would send, it might not be him, but he would send one of his staff to go in the back and go through their garbage to see what kind of beer the father drank.
Starting point is 00:08:44 Oh, wow. So that when he would come inside, if the father said, hey, would you like a beer, he'd be like, only if you got an old Milwaukee. Because he would know exactly what the beer was. What a trick. And that that made him have a connection. That's kind of brilliant, isn't it? It's also really strange that your courage is digging into your garbage. Yeah, but you know what?
Starting point is 00:09:08 I can see that working, though, right? It is absolutely brilliant, and that's why Vince Merrill was so great. You think he was digging through people's garbage? No, but he could connect with the family, the people that he was recruiting their kid. He could make that connection. Calipari was good at it. No, Calipari was great. at it. I like that move by Switzer. I bet so many dads fell for that.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Like he would leave. I would. Mom would be talking about proximity to home. I would absolutely. Yeah, let's have a six-pack. You and me, coach. And so if he liked your brand, that would have been what you like? Yeah, that's where he's going. Speaking of brand, put your shoe up here on the table. What is this? That is a most comfortable shoe I've ever worn in my life is what I don't know. I'm sure what it is. That's the ugliest shoe I've ever seen in my life.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Yeah. What is the brand? First of all, it looks like it's made of Velcro. I think it is Velcro. It is Velcro. It is Velcro. You have the Velcro shoes. You're like a child. Yeah, I don't care.
Starting point is 00:10:03 They're really comfortable. At my age, I don't care what looks good. How do you have Nike? I didn't even know Nike made Velcro shoes. I didn't either. And did you tell me those are hand-me-downs from your son? Yeah, these are Gavin's. He left him at the house years ago, and I found them, so I'm starting to wear them.
Starting point is 00:10:19 Free food? Free clothes. You live like a homeless person, right? You really do. You do in some ways live like a man that just whatever gets donated you put on. I think you get to that age we're like, you really don't care. You just like, I want to be comfortable. But do you ever think about caring for your woman?
Starting point is 00:10:35 Like she's like still a relatively new relationship. Do you still feel the need to like whiner and diner and maybe impress her? Well, but she's getting my age too. We're both like, let's just sit. That's a really nice thing to say about her. You've been look at all the money he's saving by not buying clothes. Amen. Take that money out and go shopping.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Yeah, but it's not saving it. He's giving it to street. That's true. Yeah, $10 at a time. Did you see that guy wrote on Discord that he got shut down, by the way, your guy that you name? Sports Live reactions. Yeah, he wrote. It was the day after.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Oh, he got shut down. There's a Discord thread. Somebody sent me a screenshot where he said he got shut down. He didn't call Ryan by name, but he said he was shut down. It was the day after we talked about him. So you just got. Good job, Matt. First of all, it was not Matt.
Starting point is 00:11:19 I didn't know any of it. It was you two. So the guy you gave $10 to, you guys. got him shut down. Well, I'm going to give him $10. He's got something to eat on McDonald's. You're going to need him tomorrow because tomorrow it's a... We'll just do the Arabic stream.
Starting point is 00:11:32 It's another computer game. So now you're going to... We're back to Islam TV. Friday and Saturday. Oh, Saturday. That's right. Saturday is also a computer game. Yep.
Starting point is 00:11:42 By the way, they do say the YouTube ESPN thing may be almost over, said it could end by tomorrow. Did you see you get a $20 credit from YouTube TV? But you have to fill the thing out. Did you do that? It's easy. Just a couple clicks. It's easy. I did it.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Did you do it? Just a button. But make sure check your spam if you don't have it. If you have UTD, you got an email that says you get $20, but you have to opt into it to get it. Who's up next? Beasy. Beasy. Go ahead, Beasy.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Hey, guys. Well, I think it's safe to say, I'm looking forward to your ball game even more than a national championship in college football playoff now. It's going to be, listen, it's going to be brutal. I'm just going to go ahead and tell you, like, I'm going to try to make it fun. But so when I thought I was going to have to do this last year, I practiced on the game, and it wasn't not good, objectively. I knew it wasn't good. But I didn't practice again because then they called me and said, we're not going to have you do it.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Now they're like, you're doing it. We have to go meet with the coaches. There's a pregame yoga we have to do. What? I'm not kidding. Pre-game yoga? So they have, as part of the New Orleans Bowl festivities, they have yoga on the, on the Super Dome field.
Starting point is 00:12:57 You're required to go. And they want me and Meyer to do it to create content, me and Miron doing pregame yoga. Okay, please take Mario with you. Apparently, it's like us, the players, and the coaches, we all do yoga. I'm actually looking at their website called Yoga in the Dome. Yoga in the Dome.
Starting point is 00:13:14 That's what it's called. That would be fun. Well, I've got your game pencil down for sure. One more quick thing, Matt. I was at the basketball game the other night, and the amount of times we're going to have to hear 22 million. Yeah, we are. We've lost this season.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Yeah, it's going to be ridiculous. It is. One quick thing. Allie Califa. I sure wish he was on our team, honestly, because, man, that guy can pass the ball. And tell me, it doesn't remind you of Amari Williams a little bit. I appreciate the guy. Well, he's not nearly as athletic as Al-A-Mari, but he can pass it.
Starting point is 00:13:47 He's a really good passer. We're going to hear the 22 million, Ryan, nonstop. It's nonstop. It's going to go. It's going to go. It's going to go. We spent $22 million. Why aren't we better?
Starting point is 00:13:59 Even our fans are doing it. It's not just the fans of the other teams. The game had just hit zero and it's the first tweet I got was that about $22 million. It's going to be all season. Do you think that like should that be a thing? No, I get while people are doing it, but just leave aside that it's cash. Kentucky has always had more advantages than other teams. We should have always had the better roster, yet we still occasionally lose games.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Now it's just to have money in their. pocket. Do you think it puts more pressure on them that they spent that money? I think it only matters if you're like not good. I mean, if you're still a good team and just don't win the title, it's college basketball. That happens. Now, if you go like 500 and finish 7th in the SEC, then absolutely it should be talked about. Yeah. But if you're in the conversation at the end of the year, I think that's enough. And I don't know that we spent $22 million. I mean, people just say it like it's fact. I'm not saying it's not true. I think we did probably spend more. There are a couple teams I think spent more than us. I think St. John spent more than us.
Starting point is 00:14:58 I think maybe Michigan spent more than us. But we're right there at the top. I don't know if it's $22 million or not. But the thing is we don't know what everybody else spent. Like there's no way to really compare. So I don't know. I mean, it matters to me, but again, to use your old quote, it's not my money. So what do I care? I'd even thought about it unless I'm asked. But even if you yelled it against Louisville, I mean, O.A. was expensive. He played bad. Did you want Pope to not bring O'A. But we don't know what Louisville spent. I mean, I refuse. Louisville had to have spent a lot of money.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I mean, you think McHale Brown came here for his health, right? I mean, the kid from Virginia, he left a really good school to come here. The kid from Xavier, he had offers from every school in the country, and he went to Louisville. I mean, they had to have paid for those guys. there's no way they didn't. No way. And, you know, like we've talked about before, our $22 million may include a three-year plan, payout plan for somebody or a two-year plan for somebody.
Starting point is 00:15:57 That's true. You know? I mean, they may have said, all right, Colin Chandler, we're paying you, you know, $4 million over three years. We have no. Unless you tell me what everybody else paid, like, $22 million sounds like a lot. But what if Louisville paid $18? Then is it really that big a difference? Yeah, we've got a couple million coming back from an ACL injury right now.
Starting point is 00:16:17 And, like, I think about O-Way. He's the most expensive on the team. Everybody in the spring wanted Pope to bring O'way back. You got to pay O-Way what he wants. Got to bring him back. I already paid him. He brought him back. Played that crap.
Starting point is 00:16:27 What do you want Pope to do? I mean, you want it? I mean, he was expensive. That's what we got. What if he's not O.A.? What happens then? I think he'll figure it out. You do?
Starting point is 00:16:36 As long as he doesn't just keep trying to be a three-point shooter. He needs to drop. Yeah, he needs to drive. Clayton and Kroom was founded on a simple idea. All leather goods should last a lifetime. You guys, did anybody have, You guys are all wearing hoodies, no leather. But bags, belts, wallets, and more.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Right there. I have four things on my person right now. Clayton & Crohn. You have four Clayton & Crohn things on. Belt wallet, keychain, computer pads. That's pretty cool. Basically, all leather that's part of KSR. Mario's pants are Clayton & Crum.
Starting point is 00:17:03 CREUME.com. Visit their flagship store in Louisville at 216 South Shelby Street. It's Clayton &Croom.com's quality leather goods built to last at Clayton & Crum. Are you getting excited about going to Buffalo, by the way? Are you looking forward to that going to Buffalo? Yeah, definitely. My favorite thing right now is telling people how close it is. It blows their minds.
Starting point is 00:17:24 People are like that's going to take forever. Seven and a half hours. Seven and a half hours. It feels like it's farther, but it's seven and a half hours. Closer than the beach. Your question last night about big league cities that we missed because you had as parameters of what's close, what's not close? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:39 He blew my mind about some of them. Seven and a half hours to Buffalo. In Erie, Pennsylvania, who up Saturday night? You ready, Mario? We're ready? Good. You got to get us a car, by the way. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Starting point is 00:18:57 Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about,
Starting point is 00:19:15 wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:19:28 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Life throws hurdles big and small.
Starting point is 00:19:46 The question is, how do you conquer them? On hurdle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain.
Starting point is 00:20:11 It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but. Don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladeki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth.
Starting point is 00:20:59 He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets. the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history.
Starting point is 00:21:35 You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back at East Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-8-2-8027. Text machine is 772-745-254. One person writes, Matt, on your show with Drew and Billy yesterday, you said Ryan Lemon would have an opinion on something. I'd like you to ask him now on the show.
Starting point is 00:22:13 It's a good question. Remember we talked about what would Ryan Lemon want to do? I remember you saying it, but I can't remember what the top. So our terrible president, I'm just kidding. He has an idea, and we wanted to know would Ryan women like it, a 50-year mortgage. He wants to offer people instead of a 30-year mortgage, they now could get a 50-year mortgage. Would Ryan Lemon support 50-year mortgages? Do you think that would be a good decision. I'm kind of just going to think this out loud. No, no, that's the best. I want to, I think you thinking it out loud is the best way. Had you heard this before? No, I've not heard this.
Starting point is 00:22:56 Okay. Yeah. Stock to mortgage. I would think that it might help more people get into a house. I make it more affordable. But the long term, you're going to be spending three times more than you would than the house is worth. So on the outset, it maybe looks like a good idea. But when you get in the weeds, I think it's a horrible idea. Ryan Lemon. Well done. Thank you. Thank you very much. I was like we were saying yesterday we thought you were the kind of person that might on paper think that was a good idea. Well, no, yeah, it looks that way. Like, oh, yeah, my payment's going to go down to this. Well, I can afford that. Then you look what you're paying an interest over 50 years. It's three times more than the house is worth.
Starting point is 00:23:35 Drew made a point you're basically just renting for life that way. Yeah. Because you're probably not buying a house before the age of 20. If you are, congratulations. So at that point, say you're 25, the term on that goes to your 75. You just basically signed up to rent from that bank. And it would also do the one, like the problem we have with housing in America is we don't have enough houses. So if you make it even easier now for people to buy houses, it's only going to make that problem even worse in some ways. Like it's because until you increase supply, as long as the demand is the same, you're still having the same issue of them being like unaffordable. I just worry so many people are going to get tricked by hearing it's $200 a month cheaper.
Starting point is 00:24:16 Well, I don't think they're going to do it, apparently. Apparently other people in the administration kind of maybe talked him out of it. Hey, let's not rob the American people. Yeah, so. Car dealership's trying to do that. They say, well, if you get a three-year, four-year, but we can stretch it out to a six-year, and your payment goes all the way down to this. When they're like, oh, yeah, I can afford this brand-new shiny toy now, this new car.
Starting point is 00:24:38 I'm going to do it. I'm impressed your, like. Well, they also brought up a 15-year car loan, which is... That's crazy. A 15-year car loan would be crazy. I'm impressed with your financial acumen, by the way, there. Like I said, I slept in a holiday and express last night. I wish you would get a different joke, though, Shannon, for that, you know?
Starting point is 00:24:55 I wish... It's been... How many years have you made that joke? Ever since they started doing those commercials. Okay, I just wish... They haven't been on the air in 10 years. I have a question for you. Yes, yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:25:07 I read something like, what do you think is the average age of first... first-time homebuyers now. Well, it's gone up, unfortunately. I want to say, did I read it was like mid to late 30s now? It's like 41. See, that's 40s. I kind of, in all seriousness, I feel bad for like this generation. This generation right here and the people a little bit older than you guys,
Starting point is 00:25:29 you all have been like screwed by the boomers. I mean, you really have. Like you're, I mean, it's not your grandparents specifically. So, I mean, don't, don't yell at them. But like, the people. people a generation older than me are just making out like bandits. And it's this young generation that's really going to feel it. Because, I mean, the unemployment is high for people that age.
Starting point is 00:25:55 The job market with AI is going to be worse. Housing has become impossible to own a home for some people that age. And again, this is not meant to depress you all. I'm just saying, like, it is, for this generation coming up, it's, it is going to be, I mean, it's going to be much harder than it was for, like, our generation. That's why all these brand new apartment buildings are springing up all over town, because these people can't afford a house. They've got to live somewhere. Is that the age 41? It's like early 40s now, 41 and a half.
Starting point is 00:26:29 I mean, I guess, you know, yeah. But, I mean, I don't know, you know, I don't know that there's a simple solution, but the, and the boomers. just keep getting, just keep getting more money and keep owning more things. And we change our tax system to make them pay less and less in taxes, which of course puts more and more of a burden on the people that are young and working. And they're living longer and longer, which we want. And the retirement age is not raising. And so there's just a lot of factors that can.
Starting point is 00:27:06 And they're the ones in office because they won't quit. They won't Any of them I saw Maxine Waters is 87 years old And they said today She said I'm running again Wow
Starting point is 00:27:20 Do some ma'am Do something else Enjoy retirement I mean like you've been She's been in office for 43 years Years So she has the biggest list of accomplishments Ever right
Starting point is 00:27:34 Do something else How many years Forty three years Who's up next, Shannon? Russ. Russ. Go ahead, Russ. Hey, guys. Good greetings from Vanderberg County.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Matt, I've got a hypothetical for you. Kentucky is playing for the national championship game in April, and the Sunday before the ESPN executive. Say, Matt, we'd like for you to come up and do SportsCenter that night with Michael Eves. Would you consider it? Sports center? I mean, are you asking me, would I miss the National? championship to do Sports Center.
Starting point is 00:28:16 I mean, if you're asking me where I... Well, I mean, I love Michael Eves, but that's like, you know, that... Now, if they were saying, Matt, we want two Kentucky fans to do SportsCenter to make a Kentucky-themed thing because Kentucky's playing in the national championship, then, yes, I would do that. If it was just miss it to do the 2 a.m. sports center because we want you to try it, I might say, can we do a different day if it's the day of the national championship? But if it's a broadcast, like...
Starting point is 00:28:42 But if it was Kentucky... Eli and Peyton Manning doing it one of the night football. But if it was Kentucky themed and they were like, look, Kentucky's playing a national championship. We want to have a Kentucky flavor. You and Michael are from Kentucky, then yes, of course I would do that, right? You, Michael, Rex Chapman, they even talked about doing it one time. I think it was Rex trying to do that. Well, no, I mean, there was a...
Starting point is 00:28:59 Remember the year they did the hometown announcing for the final four? I think, what, did Dave or Rob Bromley end up doing that? But I talked to them about doing that. I remember that. It was Rex Chapman. But Dave, Rob and Ricks. I had conversations with them about that.
Starting point is 00:29:17 So, yeah, that would be awesome. But if it was just like, skip the national championship so you can go do like a random show, I would just say, hey, can we do it another time? You know. And what's more embarrassing? Go ahead. What's more embarrassing?
Starting point is 00:29:31 Doing yoga in the Superdome or going to a gas station and buying a stoke cold Steve Austin belt. The Steve Austin belt was pretty embarrassing. We'll be right back to KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 8.59-280-2-8027. If you need sunglasses, how about Shady Ray's?
Starting point is 00:30:00 Shady Ray's got the best sunglasses and they're made right here. The company is right here in Kentucky. Stop overpaying for sunglasses. If you get dirty, you lose them. There's no reason for you have done that. an independent American-owned company, Shady Race, premium polarized shades for every activity, running, fishing, biking, hiking, there you go. It's at Shady Ray's Best Lost and Broken Replacement in the business. Check them out Shadyraise.com. One person writes, Matt, do you believe in term limits? Of course.
Starting point is 00:30:30 Like, that should be a no-brainer. How Rogers shouldn't run again. Mitch McConnell's finally stopped. You know, we got Nancy Pelosi finally stopped. But like these people run, we don't need them. They act like they're the only people that can do the job are these 80-year-olds. I'm not saying 80-year-olds shouldn't. If they want to run, that's fine.
Starting point is 00:30:50 But if they've been in office since they were 40, why do they still need to be in office when they're in their 80s? It's crazy. I think you should have to, like, log into Facebook and post something to prove that you're at least somewhat with the time. You've got to make it harder. You've got to make it harder than Facebook. They have to log into Instagram. They have to be able to, like, you know, operate a phone.
Starting point is 00:31:14 I think about it's been five or six years, but when Zuckerberg was there at Congress, and the questions they were asking him were so dumb. I was like, do you all even live in the same world? Well, now imagine them trying to understand AI. That's what I mean. I mean, like, they have to regulate this stuff that they don't know anything about. And the other thing is, like, it's just like, like, anybody who wants power for that long,
Starting point is 00:31:38 something is wrong with you, right? Like something is wrong with you. Get a little, just, it drives me crazy. To me, that should be something that's nonpartisan. We do not, like, we need, I don't understand how one person leads up. Mitch McConnell was the head of the Republicans in the Senate for like 20 years. Nobody needs that, right? Even if they're good, you just need new voices.
Starting point is 00:32:02 20 years of a person being in charge, Nancy Pelosi was like that for the Democrats. Like, get them out. new people. Breath of fresh air. To get some new ideas, a new voice, new, you know, somebody coming in. Same thing happens in sports a lot of times. You know, coaches kind of, we saw with Cal,
Starting point is 00:32:17 just time. What's the longest time a coach should be in a program? Do you think there is that? Because there are people who would argue, like no coach should be in a program for more than X amount of years. Well, Buzz Williams, he's come out publicly and said it. To him, it's six. And he always leaves before that six year after that sixth year.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Six seems a little short. That's pretty quick. I'm more like I'm about 10. 10 seems to be about the right amount. They kind of need to make a change. I kind of think if you look at Cal and if you look at Stoops, even if you look at Tubby, you could kind of make an argument, 10 is the number.
Starting point is 00:32:52 I mean, you could kind of make an argument that things started to go downhill for those guys at 10. Tubby left after 10, right? Am I correct about that? Yeah, it was 10 or 11. And it seemed like the right time. I think if he had kept going, it was going to get worse. Joe B. I think was the exact same. I think he was right at 10 or 11. So I kind of think
Starting point is 00:33:13 Drew, 10 might be the number. And even if you like him, sometimes just that new excitement, changing things up, just hitting reset, brings everybody in. You know, people were kind of done with cow. But moments like that Pope coming in and just new phrases, new systems, new players, I think programs need that every so often. When there are exceptions, like take Nick Sabin, if I'm correct, he basically restarted his career at 10. That was. was when he kind of hit the reset button, did the Lane Kiffin thing, and it was like, all right, we're going to start over now at 10. Maybe that's what you have to do. Are we giving the Mark Stoops detractors a little more ammunition for their argument? I don't think their argument has been
Starting point is 00:33:52 wrong. The question for me, I said this before the season started, is is Mark Stoops ready to hit the reset button? Or is he going to continue doing the same thing? And so far, the answer has been no, let's see how the season ends. But yes, Mark Stoops started declining 10 years. I mean, all these guys, it feels like the number is 10 years. It's not that they're just going through the motions, but it can get stale if it's just the same thing every season, and it's not something spectacular like a Nick Sabin or Coach K, the guys that have had the big long run. I mean, there's a reason why we had a constitutional amendment about not having presidents more than two terms. is FDR was like most people believe a really great president.
Starting point is 00:34:39 But then in the last term, there was some thought that there started to be some corruption, there started to be some slippage, and then it was like, okay, maybe we don't need four of people. I think the same thing can be true with coaches. And if you, you know, he used to have that, but it was an age-based thing. It was. It was not a year. It was a forced Rupout. Yeah. It was the age thing.
Starting point is 00:35:03 Who's next? Tyler. Tyler, go ahead, Tyler. It's crazy that some of these politicians could have paid off their 50-year mortgages just in the time of the office. While they've been in office, yeah. Speaking back on the podcast, too, last night really quick, Drew's comment or subtle about Trump, Colin, Lauren Boebert, and asking if she want to go to play with it. That was, I went back and listened. For people who haven't heard, that's a top 10 Drew line, just because it came out of nowhere, and I'm not going to step on it,
Starting point is 00:35:32 the way he set it up, you're right. When I was listening last night, it made me laugh more than it should have. Thank you to both of you. In many years of doing shows with Drew, that was a top 10, Drew line. But go ahead. Yeah. So, hey, go on to and ask anything question, changing gears a little bit. I was curious what some of your all's biggest, what if and UK sports would be.
Starting point is 00:35:54 And I'm not talking about, like, the ones that are everyone's, like, what if I was sports didn't get hurt in 2025 or since 2015. But, like, what personal ones, like mine, for example, is what if Mark Pope had been able to coach the last Cal team? Because I think he would have cooked. And that was the perfect team for Pope's system. And it was a little bit unfortunate that we just maybe didn't have the right coach for that group. I think just for entertainment purposes, I appreciate the call. What if Bill Parcells had taken the job?
Starting point is 00:36:26 What would have happened? Would we have had a Bill Belichick situation at North Carolina? or would he have started dating a 24-year-old girl, and we would have done with that? But what if Bill Parcells had taken that job? Because it was very close to happen. Rich Brooks did a really good job, but would it have been crazy?
Starting point is 00:36:41 Would it have been a circus? That, to me, was an interesting what-if of UK sports. Definitely. I don't know if he would have taken us to new heights, but it probably would have been good. I don't know that it would have been the Belichick experience. What Parcells was in that moment, what we were in that moment.
Starting point is 00:36:58 I think it would have worked out and been fun. What if Jody Meeks had stayed? I mean, if Jody Meeks stays, is that 2010 team the best team of all time? Could have been. I mean, I think you could make an argument that if Jody Meek stays, not only do we win a national championship, I think we beat the ever-living blank out of every team we play. I mean, we could have seen the best team of all time, right? And you may get a year two out of Eric Bledsoe.
Starting point is 00:37:26 That may have forced him. He wouldn't have got as many minutes. He may have come back for a second. year. Do you have any... I think Blentsoe would have played a lot. Like, Darnell Dotson's minutes, he wouldn't have been on the team. He was the shooter, allegedly on that team.
Starting point is 00:37:37 I mean, I can't... How do you guard a team with Wall, Bledsoe, Meeks, Patterson, and cousins? You don't. You don't. Good night. I mean, forget it. That's a team of just... That's a team of five guys who were really good NBA players on the court together.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Has that ever even happened? Has there ever been a college team that had five dudes on the court at the same? time that were all good NBA players. Wow. Ever? I don't know if there's ever been a team like that. Because even the Fab Five, couple of those guys didn't. Yeah, he didn't make it.
Starting point is 00:38:11 The UNLV team had a couple guys that didn't make it. So that would be mine. And the fit of the 2010 team while driving with them leaving Meeks open on the perimeter. That would have been unfair good. What do you think? You know, I'm a huge Tubby fan. I love Tubby Smith. But what if Petino would stay?
Starting point is 00:38:31 What if Petino would stay? Yeah. We were the hottest thing going, and we were rolling during that era. You think he would have kept the fire if he was in the same? I mean, part of what I think makes him is he takes these new challenges. Because, you know, he stayed a long time at Louisville, and it kind of fizzled out a little bit towards the end at Louisville. Do you think that would have happened?
Starting point is 00:38:53 I don't know, man. Things were on a high when he walked away, and it was no slowing down inside it, it appeared. What do you think? You got a what if? I'll have a what if, and it's not a wonder. I know it would have happened. If we don't take the air out of the ball and let Carl Towns continue to score at will against Wisconsin, we have the first 40-0 season in another banner.
Starting point is 00:39:12 Amen. But he completely choked that game away. Yeah, that's a good one. What if the envelope hadn't fallen out apart? That's a huge one. Because that was going to be a great team. Yeah, put us on probation. I mean, they had, if you go back and look, they had Chris Mills and Eric Manuel
Starting point is 00:39:28 and Sean Kemp? Yeah, but just the Sean Kemp thing. What if he didn't? I mean, what if all of that had come together for one year? I've heard Richie in this bar, not on the air, but just talking to his telling stories of Sean Kemp and pick up games with those guys when he was on campus. They were just talking like he was an otherworldly basketball player.
Starting point is 00:39:46 They were so excited to having the uniform, just never happened. Yeah. That's a good question, by the way. If people have 772-745-254, any other what-ifs. Where is our show tomorrow? We're at the Infinity Sky Bar at the Marial. Downtown. Residence Inn.
Starting point is 00:40:00 Residence Inn. So if you go to the Residence in downtown, there's a sky bar, Infinity. We're going to be out there. Yep. It's apparently very nice. Very nice. I'll pop in there on New Year's Eve occasionally. Do you?
Starting point is 00:40:11 Yeah, good spot. So we will be there tomorrow. Occasionally on December. One of our very rare downtown shows. I can't remember us ever doing a downtown show. No, we've set up on the sidewalk a couple times, but never like at a place where the public can come downtown. Can you think? Have we ever done a show?
Starting point is 00:40:28 in a remote downtown? That's open to the public? I don't know where it would have been. I don't know where it would have been. But come on out. It'll be fun. Parking's not bad. Everybody acts like parking's bad. Parking the parking garage there.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Yeah, it's not too bad. We'll take a break. Be right back. Final segment. KS.R. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying.

This segment sponsored by the Kentucky State Chamber. You know, Kentucky, we are trying to make the state better, and we're struggling to have access to things like housing.
Starting point is 00:45:05 What I talked about earlier, the Kentucky Chamber is working with the state government to try to make housing access better. You can learn more at Opportunity Starts Here. Opportunity starts with access to housing and child care. Go to Opportunity Startshere.com. Time for our draft king's pick of the night, the big game tonight. Purdue and Alabama. This is kind of Kentucky and Purdue again.
Starting point is 00:45:30 This game is what? At Alabama? Alabama's a three and a half point favorite. We'll find out if Purdue was what they look like against us or if we were just really good in that game, you got Purdue or Alabama. Definitely like Alabama to win. I was hoping it'd be like one or two points. Three and a half is a little higher, but I'm still going to bet it. Just that pace of play and what we saw against Purdue. Purdue was losing to Oakland. last Thursday or Friday for, you know, right at halftime, if not at the half. Who loses to Oakland? Could you imagine? Can you imagine losing a game to Oakland?
Starting point is 00:46:01 What kind of team would do that? Fun Oakland fact. They played number one Purdue last week and then played number one Houston this week. So they played number one back to back. Yeah, Houston beat them by a lot more than Purdue did. So you got Alabama. I don't believe in Purdue. Shannon?
Starting point is 00:46:14 Yeah, with Kentucky much like Alabama. We've already seen what happened. So I'm going to go Alabama, especially with them being at home. I'm going to go Alabama. You know, they'll have two, if they win this game, that's two huge wins to beat St. John's and Purdue to start the season. That would be great. I mean, Alabama might be really, really good again. Phylon is a great player. Yeah, he may be the best player in the conference.
Starting point is 00:46:34 What do you have? Like we said, all you guys have said, Purdue struggled with the tempo they placed in Kentucky. Kentucky plays a lot like Alabama, so I think Alabama runs them. You think they're going to run them. Run them. All right, there you go. What's the Thursday night game tonight? Jets and Patriots, I think, maybe.
Starting point is 00:46:50 Exciting stuff. Good thing, it's not Jets and Patriots. It is, is it? It's a good thing we're doing karaoke here tonight. I think we were trying to get people out for the football. Come see Jets and Patriots. Maybe the Jets will knock off the Patriots. They need to be humbled a little bit right now.
Starting point is 00:47:06 They're acting like Drake May is the greatest thing of all times. Yeah, I don't like that. Some what-ifs. What if, let's see, what if Dirk Novitsky had come here? And rumor was he had committed. We went to watch him play in an All-Star game. We were so convinced he was going to come here. went pro instead.
Starting point is 00:47:22 I think he made the right decision. It would have been fun watching him. Yeah, we also, Tracy McGrady is another one that thought about doing that. Dick Vitow went on the air and said, McGrady has committed to Kentucky. How about what if Nerlins hadn't gotten hurt? Yeah. Well, we wouldn't have made the NIT.
Starting point is 00:47:38 I don't know if we would do it. I don't know how far we would have. I mean, we might have been a Sweet 16 team or something like that if Nerlins doesn't get hurt. Larry Bird could have been the small forward next to Kyle Macy and Jack Givens. He even said that recently on a podcast that he's headed to Kentucky. Larry Bird. Yeah, he said Joe B. Hall.
Starting point is 00:47:54 He didn't think Joe B. Hall wanted it. They said Kentucky stopped recruiting him. Yeah. Imagine him on the wing. That might have not been a good evaluation by Joe B. Hall if he did not want Larry Bird. I think you missed that one. One person writes, what if Eli Capiluto had not removed candidates for this job?
Starting point is 00:48:15 Then probably Bruce Pearl's the coach here. And he probably is only the coach for like four years. And then tries to hand it off. Stephen. That's true. Could you imagine that? Oh, my God. We would have had to get in front of that.
Starting point is 00:48:28 We couldn't let that happen. You know what? Actually, that's an interesting point. Uh-huh. Because, I mean, if he had come here and then he tried to set it up for Stephen, that wouldn't have gone well. And that's exactly what it would have happened.
Starting point is 00:48:40 I also don't know if it would have gone well. You know, he, right after he was in contention for this job, he started, like, speaking out about politics and stuff. I don't know if that would have worked here, you know. He's very vocal. Very vocal. People kind of don't pay attention.
Starting point is 00:48:52 because it was at Auburn, but if it was at Kentucky, magnifies it. It would have magnified it. Who's up next? Joe. Joe, go ahead, Joe. Yeah, Mac. Yeah, I wanted to talk about the Louisville fans.
Starting point is 00:49:08 As far as that, I wanted first, that band he pulled back. Yes. Probably going over to the U.S.L for pole dancing, I imagine. Well, he was actually in Miami, people are telling me. So now I definitely know where those dollars were going, but yes. Yeah. But the U.S. fans, I've been doing. quite a few basketball games.
Starting point is 00:49:27 I went to the one with John Charleston and Brandon Nightingham. Yes. And we set way up. Anyway, a guy act like he stumbled and poured and poured beer all over my wife. And my wife grabbed me to keep me from trying to take his head off. But anyway, and then this Tuesday night
Starting point is 00:49:44 when we was there, a guy was sitting beside me. He said, oh, my God. He said, if we come back and win this game, we're going to have an escort out of here. Yeah, it would have been interesting if we had won. I mean, and we didn't, obviously. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:49:57 But if we had won that game, I think that could have been a, because you know, I wasn't even there for the second half, but you could almost over the TV feel the Louisville fans clinching. You could feel them tensing up. That's why I wish Lowe had made those free throws, because I think if it had been a one possession game, that place would have gotten really, really tense. I did see at least one Kentucky person one in the Yom Center.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Did you see the picture of the little fan that guy's nose broken? There was blood everywhere in the concourse. A Kentucky fan hit a little fan? You don't see who did it. I'm going to assume it's Kentucky. But there's a little fan whose nose was almost removed from his face. There's police and there's blood all over the concrete. Wow, that's interesting.
Starting point is 00:50:38 I didn't see that. Yeah, it was pretty ugly scene. Yeah. By the way, it is cool that they did the thing honoring the UBS people. Oh, absolutely it was, yes. That affects our whole state. I talked to, this may have been in the news. I talked to Craig, the mayor, who said, I want you to think about just a second.
Starting point is 00:50:58 So the three people died that were on the plane. But the other 11 people that died were all in that auto parts place, including customers. And like half the store, they're just in an auto parts place, like working and buying auto parts. And half the customers just die. And the other half of the store walks out. Think about that ring. I didn't know that detail. I mean, that's, just think about your life.
Starting point is 00:51:29 Like, you go to do something. Like, you go to do something today, and you go into a store, and, like, all of a sudden, half the people die, like, all, and half the people don't. Like, that, you want to talk about something that make you go, whoa, life is fragile. Very fragile, very delicate. You never know at your time. Just awful. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:51:49 The truth. Truth. Truth. I got about a minute. Matt, I'm sorry for calling you an idiot, okay? It's okay, but you ruined your chance to go to the Kentucky Indiana game. Well, guess what, man, it didn't work out, but I bade to go to the December 6th. I get to go see Louisville and to the big team football, Kansas, Ohio State, Indiana.
Starting point is 00:52:16 So everything worked out for my... You're going to the Louisville, you're going to both games on the same day? Yes, a guy from IU reached out to me and my wife.
