Starting point is 00:03:11 And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, if you call T.J. He'll make them pay. We're back in Lexington. I have Drew and Shannon. Ryan is running late because he had some sort of doctor something, but he will be here very soon. And tonight is the Champions Classic Kentucky of Michigan State, but Drew, first of all, good to be back in Lexington. The drive to Buffalo was, didn't feel like very far, but the drive back, it's a, coming home from an adventure always takes longer than getting there. Yeah, the excitement usually takes off a couple hours on a trip, wherever you're headed. It doesn't matter. I think you're right about that. I always say Nashville's an hour and a half there for getting back.
Starting point is 00:03:52 The excitement, you know, helps get there. But on the way home, we're a little slower than. Yeah, and Ohio was bigger that way. I don't think if people realize Ohio's longer when you go south than if you go north. It's expanding daily. It is. So it was a lot of Ohio. But we got back and now right back to it.
Starting point is 00:04:11 This is the time of year where it feels like there is a Kentucky game every day of some point. And tonight's a big one against Michigan State. Are you feeling confident? Confident-ish. I'm very excited about it. I'll say that. Why are you excited? Just big games.
Starting point is 00:04:28 I'd love to be there. Love New York. I love the Champions Classic, even though they usually lose when I show up. But no, I'm just excited to watch a game. Yeah, people were honest for not going. I mean, we talked about like it's not close. You know, I mean, it's not close at all. I would challenge everybody, Shannon, pull out a map. Yeah. Just pull out a map and look at Buffalo and then look at New York City. It's not close. It would be like saying, oh, you're in Fulton, Kentucky. Why don't you just swing by Pikeville? It's like a four-hour difference. Like if you were to take off here and go to New York City, it's like 11, 11 and a half. It's like, what, seven and a half to Buffalo from Louisville? Yes, but even bigger is, Drew and I were figuring it's seven and a half from Buffalo to Lexington.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Right. But if you drove to New York during traffic hours, it's basically seven to seven and a half from Buffalo to New York. So it would essentially have been the exact same drive. The other thing is, you know, we've got, we just decided not to do. do it. I did notice all of our bosses, Shannon, are there. Oh, really? It continues a theme of mine, which is over the years, our bosses get to go to these Champions Classic games, and they don't send us.
Starting point is 00:05:39 I've been to zero high heart. Don't have it in the budget. Sorry, Matt. We can't go to the Champions Classic. By the way, hey, everybody, we're hanging out at the Champions Classic. It just goes to show you. Because I don't believe, Shannon, they're covering the game. Do you? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Are they doing the post-game show? I don't call it to do the postgame show. We also couldn't go because we had the key to the whole radio broadcast in our car. With no Billy R. Sports sitting in this seat tonight, there wouldn't have been a game. Without Billy, so just so people know, when you turn on the radio broadcast, in addition to hearing me say for all y'all, the thing that keeps it on is Billy. They had to essentially call in the National Guard to have the Tennessee Tech football game because he was gone. so there would be no basketball game tonight without it. But you feel good.
Starting point is 00:06:30 I do feel good. Three and a half point favorite? Four and a half. It's gone up. Okay. No, it was five and a half a minute ago. Yeah, I just went down. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:39 All right, up, down. It's moving around. They should win. I know they need a bounce back from Louisville. They need a bounce back from New York last year where they just got completely waxed by Ohio State right before Christmas. Just Michigan State's physicality worries me. with we haven't been able to handle that well.
Starting point is 00:06:56 But Michigan State can't shoot the ball very well. So if Kentucky's shooting and playing with some pace, they'll be okay. Yeah, I mean, I think it's one of these games if there's a point number we can hit and we will win. Yeah. I mean, they're going to want to turn into a fight. Michigan State beat Arkansas because Arkansas couldn't shoot. So if we can make shots, which hasn't been guaranteed most of the year, we should be okay. Now, I was thinking about Champions Classic games over the years against Michigan State.
Starting point is 00:07:21 The last time we played Michigan State in New York was the famous. Tyree's Maxie game, which was probably one of the most consequential nights that I can remember because in the same night, Maxi goes for, was it 30, 35, something like that? Yeah, it was a, I can't remember the exact number. Bashir beat Bevan, and I got fired from the radio. Big, huge night. That was a huge night. Yeah, probably a lot happened there.
Starting point is 00:07:47 That was a huge night in Kentucky, at least in my personal Kentucky experience. that all happened the same evening. You're hoping for a less eventful Champions Classic in New York tonight? Well, what would be the equivalent of the three things? Our boss has just heard our comments about being jealous that we don't get to go to things. Yeah, so then we get fired.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Yeah. And then what's the Bashir beats Bevan? I don't know what else is going on tonight. We'd have to think about what that would be. But we'd have what? O-Way goes for 25 or 30. No, we need a freshman. Needs to be Jasper.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Jasper goes for 30. Oh, if Jasper goes for 30. then we got to take whatever happens around that so the vibe like like vibes around here not not around uh ksr in fact that i heart is at the game and we're not shanan not that uh those vibes those vibes put those vibes to the side the uh the vibes around the the fan base i feel like the fans have taken the louville loss harder than they should have. And I was trying to think of what those reasons why are.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Okay, so we always lose a game in the non-conference. I mean, there's only been what? Two year, one year we haven't lost, 2015. And a lot of times the first true road game is lost. And it's often the first true road game. The difference this year is it's Louisville. If we had lost to Louisville in December, I don't think you get this reaction.
Starting point is 00:09:18 Do you? No, it's the first marquee game. First marquee. So I think that's number one. It's the first marquee game. I think that's very important. It's the first marquee game. So it's the first time people get to decide, are we real or not?
Starting point is 00:09:30 Yeah. Last year they beat Duke in that spot. It's exactly right. And this year we lost. Secondly, we were down the entire game. Right. So we get down early. And so it feels like we're constantly behind, and a lot of the game behind by big numbers.
Starting point is 00:09:48 And then of course, so I think that's part of it. And then it was that I think Louisville had. the guy that we're used to having. We're used to having a McAil Brown kind of guy over the years. And now they haven't. I mean, when's the last time Louisville had definitively the best talent on the court? Has that happened? Before Cal got here?
Starting point is 00:10:11 I mean, Quinn Snyder had a big game, but he wasn't the most talented guy on the team. You know, maybe when Russ Smith, but I think even with like Russ Smith, we would have said, okay, well, maybe he's better right now, but the twins are going to be good. You know, pick whatever. Randall. Randall, like we're going to be there. And there's not a guy on this team that you say, well, by the end of the year, he's going to be a superstar.
Starting point is 00:10:34 So I think all of that has combined to make us take the loss maybe worse than we otherwise would. Would you agree? I agree. And we've just been so spoiled beating them. It's like we don't even know how to react. Even their last one before that was like the coaches were wearing masks. The arena was empty. We just kind of like, yeah, whatever.
Starting point is 00:10:51 We're just trying to go see our grandparents right now. But now, go ahead. Well, I was just going to add. Now there's, we have some big concerns going to another marquee game. And in that one, at the end of Louisville, they were trying to hand it to Kentucky. I think that added it to it to. How often do you see a team miss seven straight free throws? And then Kentucky just couldn't capitalize. And then you get the low injury. Now, we still don't have any word on low. I assume he'll have to address it today. Right? After the game. Yeah. I mean, I mean, he's not playing today. I wouldn't expect him to play. Pope's going to get asked to me. But he's going to get asked. whether or not he's playing. He said they were going to meet on the weekend and talk. So in theory we should know, I expected to know yesterday. I mean, I expected to even get,
Starting point is 00:11:35 even if it wasn't official, the kind of, probably not playing. Or, I think he will. So we'll probably know that tonight. So I would ask you two things. Let's say we win. And then we hear he may come back.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Different fan base tomorrow? I think they get excited about that. It'd be hard not to. I mean, Michigan State's ranked, got a big win over Arkansas. They're a tough team. It's azo. And then if you can win that in the garden that got you last year, and then you hear a lot of people, myself included,
Starting point is 00:12:04 are worried he could be out for the season. If you hear he's going to give it a go, you've got to be thrilled about everything that could happen tonight. So that would be best possible options. Yes. All right. What about worst possible options? What if you lose?
Starting point is 00:12:15 And then in the post game, Pope says, I'm not going to play this year. That's going to be an ugly scene around here. I'm worried, I don't think Kentucky's going to get loose tonight. And if they do, I don't think it would be by much. But if they were to play bad and Michigan State get them pretty good and then you get some bad low news,
Starting point is 00:12:33 it's going to get uncomfortable around here. People are going to be very upset in your two big games you lost and then your point guard's not playing. It would go from, I mean, I think it would be funny at that point, Shannon, to think about the two programs two weeks ago. Oh, yeah. Two weeks ago, Stoops was essentially fired. And we had beaten Purdue.
Starting point is 00:12:53 You know? And then go to now, it would just show you how quick the roller coaster, Shannon, for any coach can go. Yeah, if you lose that game tonight, all of a sudden, and there's pressure on you too, because you still got a tough schedule in non-conference. You still got St. John's, you got Gonzaga, you got North Carolina, and we were talking about maybe one or two non-conference losses, and now of a sudden you're looking at three, four, five losses. There's not a non-conference game amongst the six difficult games. There's not one now that you say is definitely a win.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I mean, every single one of those games is now hard. This might be the easiest of the bunch. No, it's court. I mean, Michigan State's good, but everybody's good. That's not a mite. This is the easiest one of the bunch. I mean, Indiana, I guess you would say it's at home. Indiana and North Carolina are at home.
Starting point is 00:13:44 But if you're just talking about quality team, I mean, think about this. Our six non-conference games are against six teams that are all ranked. Yeah. I didn't consider Indiana. that might be the answer, but still, this is one you need to get. And Gadsaga looks like a just juggernaut now. They could be number one when we go to Nashville. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:02 I mean, last night they beat some team like 195 to 3. Is that official? I mean, I may have a number off, but I think it was 1905 to 3. 122 to 50. That's close. They also destroyed a ranked Creighton team by 30, beat Oklahoma by almost 20. They're killing people.
Starting point is 00:14:25 So they're really good. Yes. So the point is we need to win tonight. Now the game's at 630. We're not kind of used to playing that early 630 game. That's the Michigan State tax. We get pulled down because it's them. That's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:14:39 When you play Michigan State, it's like when you drive for the first time in Pennsylvania after you've been in Kentucky in Ohio, you're like, oh, you've got to pay tolls. By the way, I don't know what happens, Shannon with these tolls. Like in Pennsylvania and New York, they're like, we'll send it to you. I'll just tell you
Starting point is 00:14:56 if they send it. I don't ever respond. I don't think you have to worry about it. What are we going to be in Pennsylvania next? No, I'm just saying like... Well, I had to pay one here in Louisville going to Indiana. Well, that one you have to because it's like sent by Louisville. Right. But I don't know who the Pennsylvania and New York people are sending the thing to.
Starting point is 00:15:15 And it might be in the mailbox and I just say, it's there with your Gettysburg parking ticket. Well, now, I had to pay that one. The Gettysburg parking ticket came back. But the Pennsylvania and New York toll, Shannon, when do you find out about those? I don't think they're going to double down. Like, they're going to send it to you one time. If you throw it away, I don't think you're going to get another one.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Ever? I mean, you might. What if all that is accumulating over the years? Well, you remember when Obama ran for president, we've talked about this before. All of a sudden, it came out that he had like 98 parking tickets across America. That's true. That's you. Like, like every town, like,
Starting point is 00:15:54 like every town he just had a parking ticket. And he had to go one by one and pay all these parking tickets. One day that's you. I'm never going to run for anything. But that would be me. They'd be like, by the way, you one time had a parking ticket in Laramie Wyoming. And I'd be like, that's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Shannon wanted to go to that bar and we pulled over. And then I just parted. There was a ticket. And I was like, who needs this? It's a Wyoming parking day. When's this ever going to come up? So, I mean, what's the punishment if you don't pay that? They're not going to throw you in jail.
Starting point is 00:16:27 So what's the motivation for paying it? Well, it used to be you'd have to pull over and physically pay it. Once Drew and I didn't have any cash and they made us like, work. We got detained. We had to mow around the. We had to work on the side of the road. Because between us, we had no cash. And we were like, all right, move these rocks and we'll let you go.
Starting point is 00:16:45 We were like 60 cents short, too. I just stood on the interstate with my. But now they're like, I will send it to you. But I don't know if they ever do it. But if they do, I know I haven't paid it. 9-9-280-2287. The text machine is 772-7-7-4-5-254. We'll take your calls.

Starting point is 00:20:59 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Techiesports Radio, 859-2802287. Text machine 772, 7754. One person writes, Matt, part of the problem is you are all doom and gloom. I love your show, but your glass isn't half full. It's empty. Get some rest and come back tomorrow with a better attitude.
Starting point is 00:21:32 What are they talking about? I'm full too. We laughed more yesterday on the show than I have laughed in forever. I had the most fun two days. What is the, where are we coming off as doom and glass? Sunday was one of the best days of my life. In fact, when I walked into eye heart this morning, three people said, we're surprised you're here.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Yeah. We thought you were staying. Shannon, do you think we sound doom and gloom? No, no, I don't think so at all. What's wrong with you, Randy? Come on, Randy. Yeah. Yeah, Randy.
Starting point is 00:22:03 Maybe it's just excited about the game. Maybe that's a you problem, Randy. You know, you think Randy's projecting his own doom and gloom onto other people. I think so. That may be the case. Well, if I've come off at all negative, I'm not. I want to win tonight, though. I do think it's important for the fan base.
Starting point is 00:22:23 I mean, I think people, you know, a lot of life is about expectations, and I think there was a big expectation with this team. And if you don't hit it, then it just leads people to be a little bit more negative. Want me to say some positive things about the game, some good matchups? Yeah. They're going to want to turn this into a fight. Maybe we get a lot of fouls. they don't have any depth. Kentucky has all of the depth.
Starting point is 00:22:46 So it might be a good night to have some whistles. Because once they're big guys getting in trouble, they don't have much behind. Yeah, that would be good. And you tend to have a lot of fouls in Michigan State. And if you speed them up and use your depth, that's an advantage. Also, Michigan State can't shoot. So Louisville got Kentucky by knocking down a lot of shots. Michigan State, they're incapable.
Starting point is 00:23:03 One person writes, cry, cry, cry. All Kentucky fans do is cry. You guys whined about playing the cards in November. Now you're crying about playing at 630. I'm actually glad we're playing 630 And one of the problems about this game is it goes so late at night I mean, you know, it sometimes doesn't end until 2 in the morning. So I'm actually very happy about the game time.
Starting point is 00:23:24 It's just going to be weird because, you know, 630, we don't play many games at time. Everything you've said, people are on the wrong side of the argument. I'm thrilled at 630. Me too. I might get some sleep tonight. I would have hated the 9 o'clock. So your text machine needs to shut up. We're in a great place.
Starting point is 00:23:37 Wow. All right. Ryan's here. How are you? Welcome back to KY, boys. We had a good time. It was a lot of fun. Missed you.
Starting point is 00:23:44 You missed a lot. You've been replaced by Billy on these trips. You never brought a veggie tray. Never one time. I do have some thoughts about your trip. Show yesterday was awesome. The giddy shows on the road are the best. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Thank you. But the videos you guys put out probably even better. The videos with you with the players drew in the parking lot, Mario's videos I thought were outstanding. Let me ask you a question about the videos. First of all, I got a lot of comments from people saying that I looked uncomfortable. interviewing the players in the locker room. Mario, you're shaking your head.
Starting point is 00:24:17 How do you think I looked uncomfortable? First of all, I was uncomfortable. So I may have looked it. Maybe because they didn't have any clothes on. I mean, part of it is the clack of club. Behind the camera where Mario is, there's just offensive linemen walking around. There's just too much nudity.
Starting point is 00:24:33 It reminded me of when I used to go to the old YMCA gym in Louisville. And these old men would just walk around. nude all the time. And I'm like, yeah. And they'd like, I was like, that's not. But then these guys, those guys should have had more clothes on. These guys, I think, are for the most part, proud. But there are too many abs, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:24:58 And there are too many accessories. And I just, I'm, I probably was uncomfortable. Like, I'm not here for the show. You're used to that. Because, like, that doesn't happen in these college things. This is a pro, like, open in the locker rooms. I just wasn't used to. But I was going up to the Bengals, like,
Starting point is 00:25:12 for seven years in a row in the locker room after every home game and the receivers the running back the quarterback's the guy with the good bodies they seemed to always
Starting point is 00:25:19 cover themselves it was a big fat lineman you are exactly you said it I'm not going to say it that's true yeah that's true
Starting point is 00:25:27 it is no shame no shame no larger the person the less clothes they have on the less clothes they had on yeah and the fact that they're like
Starting point is 00:25:35 yeah I mean Ray Davis I like Ray Davis do not tell him Mario's been telling him we don't like him come on Mario Come on, Mario.
Starting point is 00:25:43 But Ray Davis, I was like, hey, man, I'll wait. Nope. I'm good. I'm good. Wait for what? I'll throw on this washcloth. Now's the time. And it was like a Motel 6 washcloth.
Starting point is 00:25:56 It's not even plush. So if you felt a little uncomfortable, you had a good reason why. It looked like it. Somebody said I held the microphone like I was, you know, winked Martindale. And Bob Barker, I was trying to keep my distance. from between them. It is a different world when you walk into that NFL locker room than if you walk into a college locker room. Other sports like that? I've never been in an NFL locker room.
Starting point is 00:26:21 Is everybody nude in the other sports? NBA, yeah. I've done an NBA a couple of times. Okay. I just, I mean, I'm not, people don't have to, I'm not modest. I'm just saying you don't, I just wasn't used to it. My big takeaway on that, and it's happened before it's gone viral, when people are doing news interviews, how does that not pop up in the background? I agree.
Starting point is 00:26:40 I got a great story about that. has. You do? We went up and interviewed Tim Couch when they played the Bengals in the Browns locker room, had this great interview with him. We couldn't use it because after we got home and put the tape in, we realized there's a big, fat, offensive lineman drying himself off with a towel, the whole interview.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Yeah. When you started that big, I was like, oh, no, what's he going to say? And then thankfully, it didn't end up. Just a little side note, a little behind the scenes. Keon Coleman, he's a receiver for Buffalo. I guess he had missed a practice. So he had to miss the game. He was suspended for the game.
Starting point is 00:27:15 He walks out of the locker room before they open it, and the media all descends on him, and he decides to talk to him. So the media is sitting there interviewing Keon Coleman, and then I realize I'm like right behind him. And I'm in everybody's shot. So if you watch the Buffalo Media's interview with Keon Coleman, I'm kind of behind him going, because I didn't realize where I was.
Starting point is 00:27:39 and so I'm right there. Drew's got a video. Well, I made my own video yesterday. I tried to do my best Mario, and I included where you turn around and realize you have like a reaction. I get scared. Like, oh. Hello, Buffalo.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Nice to see you. David. Go ahead, David. David. Hey, Matt. What's going on? Yes, go ahead. I'm ready for the game tonight.
Starting point is 00:28:03 And I was thinking to, we had some really great games with things you can say through the years. We forgot to mention this one game. The basketball. basketball game where we were in Detroit and we broke the world record from the most of the game. Yeah, that's true. I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:28:20 We played them in the dome up there. That was quick, Michigan State regular season games. Obviously, we had the big one in the tournament. Regular season games. The maxi one sticks out. You got that one. That was a good one. We wore silver uniforms one time against them.
Starting point is 00:28:35 They beat us at Rupp Arena. I think the year they won the title in what was that, 99 or 2000. Gerald Fitch had a shot at the buzzer against them. time to beat them. Whoa, David, let me know. Ryan, we beat him that year. That's right, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:28:49 I just remember being at the game. It was at Rupp Arena. Don't argue, Ryan. Ashley Judd was sitting at courtside. Didn't we hit, didn't Gerald Fitch like hit a three to beat him one year in Rump? I'm going to say yes.
Starting point is 00:29:01 I feel like that happened. And then we had the game in 2014 where we had all those freshmen and we thought we were going to crush them. And then they beat us and kind of crushed us. that year. That was a wake-up call. So we'll see. 859-280-20287. We'll be right back. A good trip, boy.
Starting point is 00:29:24 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. I think the other part about it, it's about the awkwardness is it's the nudity is part of it. But it's also that, like, I haven't done that in a long time. And I don't know what to ask these people in those situations.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I feel like I'm pretty good at one-on-one interviews when they come in here. But when you're in that situation, like, I don't really care about the game. You know what I mean? So, like, I can't be like, what did you think out there on third and one? Like, I don't really, you know, I don't care. And so that also is part of it. I'm kind of like, what do I ask these guys? You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:30:03 Yeah. Plus, I don't know who's who. That would be part of it. Like, there's all those people in there. And except for the guys that played at UK, I don't know who they are. So it's like. Don't they have their name plates right about their locker? Well, but sometimes they move around.
Starting point is 00:30:15 And you don't know. Yeah, they do have the name. If they're sitting in their locker, I can guess who it is. But, I mean, if they're not, I don't know who they are. And they definitely don't know who we are. Yeah. Why are you in? They're used to the same faces.
Starting point is 00:30:27 And then they see Billy's shoes and they're like, you're not supposed to be. You're way over dressed to be in here. Yeah. I didn't appreciate all the Billy Slander yesterday on the show. A lot of Billy Slander. He was just doing his job, being the GM for KSR. But I also think this was the best for Billy's Q writing. This was the best trip that's happened.
Starting point is 00:30:43 Yes. It was very good. One person writes, Matt, I used to go to the gym in Lexington a lot. And the person I saw who was most comfortable being nude was Alan Cutler. No filter. Was he interviewing? Exactly right. No filter.
Starting point is 00:31:00 There are some classic Cutler stories of being in the sauna and maybe. Oh, he's big on being nude? I never saw it, never witnessed it, just heard stories. Well, the thing about the sauna, you're in like in an enclosed space with this person. Yeah, and you're not walking around. That kind of makes it worse, though. He feels like to me, though, I don't have any. He feels like the kind of guy who would be fine, just like I'm out of Culler, no filter.
Starting point is 00:31:24 I dabble in sanas. I kind of like the towels they give you. Maybe throw those on. Yeah, I think the towels are good. There's things, you don't want to do. One person writes, are there any other times you almost got fired besides Mitch McConnell and Cal? Well, McConnell, we did get it. It was temporarily fired.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Cal, I think if Cal comes back, maybe would have got. gotten fired. They threatened to fire me when I did Hey, Kentucky. Yes. And it scared Ryan. That's the scariest I've been. It's scared Ryan. Ryan started doing like, he started, he went on Go Daddy.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Or is that the website? Go Daddy? What are they do on there? No, he went on. Domain names. Zip recruiter, all that. Like, he was starting to. Because it was just you and me in the car.
Starting point is 00:32:07 It was you and me. And they were really mad that I decided to do the TV show and didn't tell them. We pulled over to hotel in Hopkinsville. No, they told us to come home. Yeah. We were on our way to Hopkinsville to do a remote, and they told us to pull over and turn around and come home. Yep. That's the scariest I've been.
Starting point is 00:32:23 I thought for sure it was over that day. Yeah. And I was hearing, you know, just half of the conversation. So hearing your side of the conversation, it's done. He's in trouble. Yeah. Well, we got through it. Let's go to Daniel.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Go ahead, Daniel. Hi, guys. I'm just getting on Interstate 78 outside of Allentownown, heading up to the game today. Oh, I've made that drive a lot. Where are you going to park? That's always the question when you go to New York, is where are you going to park your car?
Starting point is 00:32:57 Oh, I think it's 31st Street, right across the streets in the garden. I think in the past it's been a flat rate of $50. It's really not that hard to park there. So you're just going to go, you're going to literally drive into Midtown into the garden area and park there during rush hour? City by like 1 o'clock. All right. Good luck, sir.
Starting point is 00:33:25 I mean, there's no worse place in New York to drive than around Madison Square Garden. And I think they're doing, like, construction on Penn Station. So I love driving in New York, even in the city. But, like, that's the worst few blocks you could drive right now. So I wish you the best in finding parking. Okay. I think the Michigan State game a couple years ago was the later game. Okay, you might be right.
Starting point is 00:33:54 We're in the early game today. because I can, I'll get home by like midnight. If we were in that late game, oh, boy, I don't want to think about what time I'd get home. But go ahead. Almost. It better be a better game than last year at the garden, because that was a stinker game. Yes, it was. I mean, that was our last, I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:34:16 And it looked like we didn't, we're not doing any of the go to Hamilton, visit Jack Lugers. Like, we're not doing any of that stuff right now. It looks like they realize that might not be the way to go. We're not throwing away our shot on this trip. We're going to be focused. A pro tip for anyone driving might be a little late if you're on the road. I always park outside of the city at one of the train stations. Well, that's what everybody.
Starting point is 00:34:38 They have free parking and you just hop on for $12. Yeah, but that's a tough trip too. I mean, because, you know, you got to get on the train. You got to do all that. I mean, that is, most people do that. That got clearly has money. That got clear it has money. You're not going to drive in the city because you're going to have to pay $15 to
Starting point is 00:34:54 just get into the city or $20, and then he's going to pay $50 for parking. I'm just thinking about the traffic because it's a, you know, especially right there at the garden. It's awful. Plus, you're going to be getting there. Right is Broadway. Now, Broadway's a little farther up, but you're going to get, like, it's just going to be bad. I have a station in Trenton, New Jersey. They do oil changes and it's free parking and you just get on the train. It probably takes an hour drop shop at Penn Station. Leave your car well lit, brings you right back and drive on home. They do oil changes. Yeah. You can get a oil chain. Is that whether you want it or not? Is it mandatory oil change? It's well lit. It's well lit.
Starting point is 00:35:29 It's cheap. You just pay the get on the train. It's probably 10 stops. I don't know, but takes you all the way into the middle of the city. Who's up next? Easy enough. Sparky. Sparky. Go ahead, Sparky. Good morning, Matt. I've heard you talk a lot about veggie trays and locker room nudity, but I want to switch topics for a minute and ask your comments on Paul Feinbaum potentially running for Senate and what that would do to the sports media a landscape and if he does who you think might end up filling some of that airtime? Well, I mean, from what I understand, just from the people that I've talked to, I think it's very likely that he's going to do it. You know, good luck to him. I mean, he's running in Alabama. Apparently, he's now a Republican. That's yet another person that was a Democrat that decided
Starting point is 00:36:17 they wanted to run so became a Republican. But, you know, I don't know if he can win or not, But, I mean, if he leaves, then, you know, that show, there's a couple people I could see getting that show. I think the leaders would probably be maybe Marty and McGee. Col Quillic and Greg McElroy. I think those would be the ones that I think would be most likely to get it. That's just my own personal opinion. I mean, to me, the obvious successor for him would be to do Marty and McGee. and I think, I don't know if they would want to do it or not,
Starting point is 00:36:54 but that strikes me as being the most. Because, you know, they have a connection with those folks. And honestly, probably would be a good refresh to that show because those guys are, I love both those guys. So that's just my guess, though. It's good to talk about the coaching domino effect, and I'm wondering what the radio carousel will be, and you'd have some insight.
Starting point is 00:37:17 So look forward to see how many of Paul. Yeah, that would be the, I appreciate the call. That would be the radio carousel to me. People have asked about us. I think we're not football-centric. I think they would want someone football-centric for that show. And I think those guys would make the most sense.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Marty and McGee, they kind of relate to that audience seems like the most. But Maca-Roy and Cole, one's an Alabama guy, one's an Auburn guy. I can see that kind of working out too. And they already have a show. Yeah. Right? They already have a show. It's very successful.
Starting point is 00:37:47 I'm on it quite a bit as a guest. You might be invited back. Wow. Yeah, that's true. Maybe I'll get to go back on those shows a little bit. And I like both those guys a lot. So I think they would do a great job. I like Cole a lot.
Starting point is 00:37:59 As much as I like Marty and McGee, you want to get me to tune in. I would tune in for Cole Kublin. Would you be sad to see Fimbomgo, Shannon? I know you're a big guy. Oh, so sad. No. It's like watching paint dry, watching that show. But, I mean, would you miss it?
Starting point is 00:38:12 No, I wouldn't miss it at all. We would have to listen to it on the road trips at all. I mean, that would be great. Yeah. Senator Febombev. Good luck. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know who else is going to run for that. Yeah, who's your running against? But the problem is, like, I don't even know what he thinks about anything. Do you? I mean, I don't know what he thinks about anything.
Starting point is 00:38:32 He doesn't like Ohio State, Michigan. He has a radio show and doesn't talk. He literally Devere gives his opinion about anything. The only opinion I've heard him say is that Arch Manning would be the best player since Tim Tebow. Maybe that's why he's leaving radio. So I don't know. I mean, but yeah, good luck to him. if he decides to do it. Let's go to Isaiah. Go ahead, Isaiah. Hey, can you hear me? Yes, go ahead. Hey, I think we may need to up Drew's NIL money. I wasn't too convinced he was going to come back. I thought he's going to put Abby through a table just to join the Bill's mafia.
Starting point is 00:39:08 I've never seen anything like what he was like. Like he, he, it's hard to describe. I'm trying to think what the thing like that would be for me. But like you were in heaven and you were like giddy. And I don't know why it was. I think it was the combination of it's good people, drinking, tables. Well, I don't get to Telgate. I genuinely miss Telgay. I love our pregame show, but it kills me. I don't tellgate for any football games ever.
Starting point is 00:39:37 So I got to actually go out and Telgate, and I jumped all the way in. Yeah, no, I agree. But there's nothing like BB Andrews, so don't forget it. And also, with tonight's game against Michigan State, I feel like Brandon Garrison, this is kind of like his last big game to say, you know, I've improved over the off season, you know, give me the minutes. Otherwise, I could see Mark Pope turn into Yellovich. That's too much of a crazy thing.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Yeah, this is a big game for Brandon Garrison. I think that's a good call. I appreciate the call. I mean, on paper, this is a game where Brandon Garrison matters a lot because he's physical, hopefully, they're physical. There's probably going to be a lot of fouls down low. So I agree with you. I think if you're looking at Kentucky players that,
Starting point is 00:40:20 need to have a big game. I would start with Brandon Garrison and then Otago away. This is another game in theory that should be built for him because it's going to be about finishing through contact and playing physical. So I think both those guys need to have a good game. Starting point is 00:42:31 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Starting point is 00:43:14 The question is, how do you conquer them? them. On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness, professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going from the WMBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong. Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ladecki.
Starting point is 00:43:47 The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light up and smile, that means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard.
Starting point is 00:44:10 Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of I Heart Women's Sports. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back.
Starting point is 00:44:37 Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levin this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Techiesports Radio. I am bummed. I'm not there. I mean, I go to New York a lot. I love it. I think it would be fun to be there. So I'm bummed.
Starting point is 00:45:33 And if we hadn't gone to Buffalo, I would have gone. But, you know, that's the way it goes. Sometimes you can, we've got a lot of stuff going on. And I was just there last like a week ago. Just that song's getting me excited. Our record in the Champions Classic in New York, though, is not good, though, right? You know, I don't know. I mean, that one year that we beat Can, I mean, wait a minute, we beat, where did we play Duke last year?
Starting point is 00:46:00 Where was that game? Was that in New York? That was in Atlanta. All right, so we beat Kansas that one year by like a thousand in New York, right? That was an indie. Well, all these games, maybe I just don't know where these games are. The game that Jamal Murray had like 30 in the second half against Ohio State. That wasn't the Champions Classic.
Starting point is 00:46:18 Ohio State's not in the Champions Classic. That was a CBS Classic. Last time we were in New York, we lost the Duke. Okay. Yeah. We beat them in Michigan State. I know that. That was the only one I was at.
Starting point is 00:46:31 You know, Cali likes play one game a year there. Yeah. We played Monmouth there one time, if you remember. Well, there's a confusion. We get smoked in the CBS Classic in New York a lot. The Champions Classic hadn't been good to us overall, but the CBS is where we've lost to use. UCLA up there, Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:46:46 Ohio State twice. Yeah, it's the worst of the two. In New York. Yeah, New York. Yeah. Well, we did break that little Champions Classic curse by winning last year. So hopefully we can, you know, we can do that again. 859-2-80-2287.
Starting point is 00:47:04 On the text machine is 772-745-25-4. Let's talk just one second about the sort of coaching carousel. James Franklin takes the job at Virginia Tech. they owed him $49 million. The report is that he settled the buyout for $9 million so he could coach it at Virginia Tech. Odd decision to me, because now he's essentially coaching Virginia Tech for free, basically.
Starting point is 00:47:32 I would have thought he could have gotten more than the nine. But he's basically coaching for free now. And I would have done that maybe at a different school. I'm not going to Blacksburg, Virginia, if I could just do anything else with all that. that money. I'm sure he's got the competitive juices, but Penn State gets a huge, I mean, a huge break. Let him off the hook. I mean, he let him off the hook. Nine million dollars. I don't
Starting point is 00:47:54 know what he's making at Virginia Tech. I don't think that's come out, but. It's not $9 million, is it? Maybe. But I'm saying he gets, so he was going to have five years, $49 million. He takes nine, and now he goes to Virginia Tech. If they pay him eight a year, he's coaching for free. If they pay him nine a year, he's coaching for a million dollars a year. It's just an interesting, I would have thought he could, a buyout like that, I would have thought he would have gotten like 20 to do it. And he could have got that at Penn State, don't you think, if he just fought it?
Starting point is 00:48:27 Maybe. Well, but there wasn't anything to fight. If he wanted to coach, he had to do the buyout. Yeah. But I'm just surprised he only got nine. Now, what about the Lane Kiffin situation? This is interesting to me. So Lane Kiffin's like, apparently,
Starting point is 00:48:42 Shannon, his family flew to LSU like two days ago to look around Baton Rouge. And then somebody, I mean, it was in Florida yesterday, maybe his family as well. So his family is looking at the cities, Baton Rouge in Gainesville. But who are his family? I thought he dated like a 25-year-old girlfriend. Well, he's got a daughter that's about that age. Could be her. Remember she's the one age to LSU football player.
Starting point is 00:49:12 She can live anywhere she wants. Why does she have to go look at these cities? Like, she's a grown-up. I understand. I guess so. So who's the family that's looking? He's got a son. They're all old enough.
Starting point is 00:49:22 They're not going to be living under his... So all the people looking are not living there? I don't know the specific people going, but his kids are getting pretty old. So it's not his girl from elementary schools. I think they're just looking out for dear old dad. They're scouting it for him, you know? But they're also making news. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:36 So Old Miss comes out yesterday and says, by the day of the egg bowl, which is a week from Friday, you got to tell us are you here or not. Wow. So he's going to have to before. What's interesting about that is that's before. They're going to make the playoff probably. Yeah. And he's going to have to tell Ole Miss, I'm leaving or not, before the playoff.
Starting point is 00:50:00 And then presumably, let's say he says he's leaving. They're going to let him coach the playoff? It's weird. If I were Ole Miss, they need to be rolling out the red carpet and recruiting him, not giving him ultimatums. agree with that. They need to do everything they can to keep him. They still have a puncher's chance, but I feel like putting him
Starting point is 00:50:18 on a deadline and the ultimatum is only going to push him farther out. You're probably right, but let me play devil's advocate if you're Ole Miss. If he were to wait and do the playoff and then leave, they won't have a team next year. With the transfer, they won't have a team. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:34 So is there a situation where he could go, okay, I'm going to go to LSU, but if you want, I'll coach the playoff and you're new. coach can recruit your team next year? That's not a good scenario to be in at all. But are you going to go to the playoff for the first time ever and then not have him coach it?
Starting point is 00:50:55 He's got to finish the year. He's in the national championship conversation. He can't walk away from that. But if he says I don't, they're giving him the ultimatum. Let's say he wants to go to LSU. Is Old Miss going to tell him you can't coach his team? No, they can't do that. They're not big enough to do it.
Starting point is 00:51:09 They can't hand it to an interim for the playoffs when they're truly a contender. So you're going to have LSU's coach coaching your team in the playoff? Maybe. I mean, that's, Kiffin's team. He wants a ring just as much as his players. There's no way he doesn't finish the year. If I'm Kiffin or if I'm Ole Miss. If I'm Ole Miss. I think you got, yeah, I wouldn't be giving them that ultimatum. I mean, the guy, like you just said, has a chance to win a championship and you're going to say you've got to give us an answer now. So let's say that they, the answers no. Are you letting him coach the team in the playoff?
Starting point is 00:51:38 Yeah, absolutely I am. He's our coach. until the end of the season anyway, at least. It would be malpracticed to trot out an interim when you're in the playoffs in your Ole Miss. I mean, any school, though, is dealing with this on any given year. Potentially, a coach can leave at any time. Throughout the whole playoff run, he's going to be talked about as the next LSU head coach. He's probably going to be recruiting LSU's team. During the preparation for the playoffs, you're right, he's recruiting for his LSU team next year.
Starting point is 00:52:08 So what do you think he does? I don't know. I think he stays. I've always thought he would stay in the long run. I think he'll probably stay. But I mean, also, he's the kind of guy that, I mean, at LSU, he would win everything. If I were picking, not staying, I would take LSU over Florida 10 times out of 10. Me too.
Starting point is 00:52:31 But it is wild, though. And it's wild that his family has taken private jets that can be tracked to go visit these. Like Shannon said, they're the scout team. They're scouting stuff out for him. Yeah. It's a wild situation, but you can't not have him coach the team if it goes to the playoffs. I mean, he's got you. It's high as you been.
