Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Welcome, everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, November the 24th. I'm Matt Jones on a cloudy, kind of cool day. I'm in Louisville, Kentucky. Ryan and Drew are in Lexington. Shannon's over there in that little studio box. It is Thanksgiving weekend.
Starting point is 00:03:02 And I'm excited about it. Big weekend. We got basketball. We got football. We got the Kentucky volleyball. But it wasn't the best weekend of the past one. You can give a shout 859-280-2287. That's the Clark's Pubbit Shop phone line.
Starting point is 00:03:17 A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7754. This edition, sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. You call T.J. Omecum Pay. I wonder what Diego Pavia's mom is. doing right now, Shannon. Probably down on Broadway in Nashville. Kit Rock's Bar. How do you know?
Starting point is 00:03:34 We haven't seen much of her in a way, guys. I just want to start with it. We could be all down and depressed today. And we have to talk about the disaster that was the game. But I think there's some value, Shannon, and like in sort of laughing to start the day, right? Sure.
Starting point is 00:03:53 So we have to talk for a second about Diego, about your quarterback's mother. Yeah. Diego Pavia. Pavia's mom's got it going on. Apparently the cameraman thinks so. No doubt. No exaggeration.
Starting point is 00:04:07 No exaggeration. In the history of sports, has there ever been a parent that was shown more on a game broadcast than his mom was on that one? No. She was shown six times on one score. They kept cutting away from the game to his mom back to the game, back to Pavia's mom.
Starting point is 00:04:29 Ryan, you've been watching for a long time. You worked in TV for years. Can you ever remember anything like that? You brought it up on the postgame show when Christian Leitner's mom was in that neck brace. That's the only thing that comes anywhere close. And it still wasn't as many times as they showed Diego Pavia's mom.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Even Donna Smith? No. Not even close. She would get maybe one time. Drew, can you think of a time? No, no. I thought forever my two were Donna Smith. And if you remember when Blake Griffin was awesome at Oklahoma, they just had a camera on his parents all the time.
Starting point is 00:05:01 I thought those two were going to hold the crown forever. But Pavia's mom is a legend for how much they showed her on Saturday. And listen, first of all, let's talk about the good. It's nice, right, that she's like celebrating her son, right? That's good. Every parent should be like that. Yeah, celebrating them with their son success. Celebrating their son, that's nice.
Starting point is 00:05:21 There's a family get together. That's nice. But we do have to talk about the rest of it. Which, I want all of us to sit here and think of our mothers for a second. All right. Drew, you think of your mom. Ryan, your mom, Shannon, your mom. I'll do my mom.
Starting point is 00:05:41 What are the chances we would see our mothers in that outfit? Zero. Zero. I mean, for those of you that know my mom. Is she Karen wearing that? Just think about it's my senior day. and my mom showing up in thigh-high boots. Come on.
Starting point is 00:06:02 She was straight out of a shaggy 1995 music video. Oh, shaggy. I mean, like, you know. Are you saying she was Mrs. Boombastic? Yeah. Like she was, at one point she was like kissing some guy's hand. Did you see that? Yeah, saw that.
Starting point is 00:06:17 That was weird. I'm like, who is this guy who's getting his hand kiss by Poppy's mom? She walked out on the field. First of all, his brother, as Drew pointed out on cover zero, was in a tuxedo. his brother and her did not look like they were dressed for the same event did they no no i'm not it was just the whole thing was just weird it was bizarre but even with all that i'm not sure there'll ever be a moment quite like drew when she was saddled up to the rail oh incredible incredible absolutely incredible isn't it she was she was riding that thing genuine pony she's playing in
Starting point is 00:06:55 my head as she was riding it. And I said to people with me, I was like, thank God this game isn't close. Because if it went to overtime, they would have to switch to HBO if they're going to continue to show her. Because each time they showed her, it got a little more, more provocative. She got more and more saucy as the game went on. They obviously had one camera dedicated to her. Can you imagine that guy's job, by the way? They're like, you're on mom cam. A whole game. Stay on her. There are worst gigs in sports. And then like, you're right. She got more. and more provocative. And at that moment, and like, I don't feel bad talking about it because she was like
Starting point is 00:07:30 pointing at the camera. She clearly was like, camera find me. Now, Drew made a good point that after she saddled up to it and was pointing, they never showed her again. Do you think that was a call from the network? Like, okay, things are getting, we got to slow down here. Mickey Mouse called in. He broke the record.
Starting point is 00:07:52 He got his moment where he walked off the field. where the backup came in. He was a big part of the final minutes, and they did not show her again. They did not show her during those. After she was all over that rail. I mean, the rail video, I'm kind of shocked Shannon.
Starting point is 00:08:05 That wasn't a bigger internet thing. Yeah, I mean, it's good for ratings. That tells me that she was probably doing something that they just could not show. Like whatever happened next was something that could not be shown on TV. Go watch the video of her on the rail and look behind her. Okay? If you haven't seen it yet,
Starting point is 00:08:24 Look at the man who I believe is a Vandy security guard. He had on a Vandy Lanyard. He had on that guy. That guy. You need to look at that guy and look at his face. He has a look of like, I have the best job in sports. You know, I was so bummed about the game itself, but I just couldn't get over how much they were showing her.
Starting point is 00:08:51 And then there's Shannon the Theo Vaughn part. Yeah. Like he's at senior day. Like he's on the field. He's about to be Pavia's stepdad. No doubt. Because he's got a thing for Pavia's mom. See, I kind of always thought that was like kind of a joke. No, no. I think it's legit. You think it's legit. I think it is. Yeah, he wanted that date with his mom. I just have to say, and again, I'm not hating. Do your thing, Diego Pavia's mom. I mean, this is his like last moment in the spot. spotlight, right? Do your thing. But all I could sit there and think about was like the difference in what my senior day would have been with like mom and Larry and them walking on the field versus Diego Pavia's senior day with thigh high boots, cut off shorts, a tuxedo on his brother
Starting point is 00:09:53 And Theo Vaughn. Drew, it's just, it's an unbelievable thing. Like, it just shows you how different humanity can be. Yeah, that's the Pavia experience. I mean, you know, a year ago or two years ago, that guy in the lanyard, that stadium's under construction, there's no fans there. They have a locker room that's a tent. And then fast forward, they flip the Pavia switch,
Starting point is 00:10:14 and he's sitting next to a parent grinding on a rail for a sold-out stadium as they're whooping Kentucky. I mean, just what a world for Vandy. That will be one for the books right there. It's must see TV, which makes me think he's going to be invited to the Heisman ceremony because they want that attention. He might. He might. Yeah. I mean, it's unbelievable. Now, as far as the game, that was bad. It was terrible. Everything went poorly. Everything. The offense couldn't move the ball. Defense, we could not stop. I mean, we couldn't do anything. It was 45 to 3 at one point. If they had wanted to, I think it could have been in like 65 to 3.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Yeah, they took Bobby out in the fourth quarter. Yeah, I mean, they took him out. It was, I thought we could lose. I actually picked us to win, which seems ridiculous now. I thought we could lose, but I just, I did not think Ryan it would be like that. I thought after the last few weeks, that was kind of out of our system, but it clearly wasn't. You guys are right. The final score, 4517, it was much worse than that.
Starting point is 00:11:22 It felt like 70 to 3. it was so bad. What their first 12 plays, they had 18 yards of offense. That's unbelievable. They came out of the gate just awful and never recovered from it. Drew, what do you blame that? I mean, they're better than us, clearly, and they played well. But that's the kind of beat down that should not happen at this stage of a program ever.
Starting point is 00:11:50 I mean, we've lost these other games. Even South Carolina beat us pretty bad. badly, but it wasn't that. That was like old school embarrassment level. Yes, it absolutely was. It was only the third time under Mark Stoops, they've given up 600 yards. The other two were many years ago to Georgia and Alabama. Pavia set a Vandy record. I know your defense is beat up and wounded, but that doesn't explain getting whipped like that. I mean, sure, I didn't think we'd win, and I knew they'd have trouble stopping that offense, but he was just picking them apart. Even early in the game, he made a couple third down throws.
Starting point is 00:12:22 The guys were just wide open in the middle of field. could tell in their first series that it was over before we even got minutes into the game because that offense was just doing whatever they wanted. Whatever they wanted. I mean, we had no chance of covering them. You know, it was, it was embarrassing. And the deep balls, I want to add, you know, because I mentioned the injuries, the guy gotten burned was quarterback one on the deep balls. So that wouldn't even injury thing. That was your star and veteran. That was a great throw. Like if that was the one thing that happened, you'd go, well, okay. I mean, actually, oddly, even though he got burned. I was oddly like, well, that was a great throw, whatever. But then it just continued to get
Starting point is 00:13:00 worse. You know, I guess you would say, well, they didn't quit, but who cares? I mean, they were getting beat by so much. This was the one thing Ryan that couldn't happen. You know, if you were trying to kind of win back fans that you had lost weeks ago, the one thing you couldn't do is get blown out. And then they did. I think all the negativity that had circled for weeks, came back doublefold and it put us into we are now in purgatory and we're going to definitely be in purgatory
Starting point is 00:13:34 if we lose to Louisville but this was the one thing if you're Mark Stoops you could not have happened and Ryan and then it did that game we all saw it on our social media the Stoop's detractors came out in full force back at it rallying the troops after the three game win streak they're back in full force and now this game as Drew predicted all comes down to the
Starting point is 00:13:54 game. The whole perception of the all season is going to depend on how they play in that game coming up on Saturday. Do you think, though, is there any chance it was so bad that what happens in our assumption going into the game that Mark Stoops was back regardless? Is there anything that happened Saturday that changes that? Not in my mind, but I know in a lot of fans' minds that sure has changed. Drew, what do you think? I'm only watching a voluntarily Stoop step away. I don't see Barnhart doing it just with his comments and just that. the nature of Mitch Barnhart. I think still at this point,
Starting point is 00:14:27 win or lose Saturday, for it to change, it would have to be stoops looking around and saying, I don't want to keep going forward with this. Is there a world, though, where that was a consideration before and Saturday made it more likely? What do you think? Well, I asked you because, Shannon, I didn't want to.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Well, I gave my opinions on Saturday, and I'm going to talk about that a little later because I was kind of shocked at some of the reaction Saturday, not the negativity. I knew that would be there. but it just came out and like you said it kind of doubled down on everything like it came out in full force threefold threefold uh i don't think that Mitch barnhart's got it in him to fire stoops no I don't think he has it in me he also doesn't have the money but there's also a sense of a fan base you know you can get to a point where a fan base has had it so much that it makes it toxic and I didn't think that was going to happen but I don't think that was going to happen but I I think the way we lost brought that back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:27 And if you lose 45 to 17 against Louisville again. If you get blown out by Louisville, then I think you almost have, like you can't take two of those, especially since Louisville stinks now. Yeah. Yeah, they're terrible. I mean, at least Vandy's good.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Louisville stinks right now. If they were to blow us out, then that's a whole other thing. A team that's kind of limping into this game. I mean, they got blown out last week. I mean, they got blown out last week. Yeah. They got blown out 38 to 7.
Starting point is 00:15:56 It was a bad week when the Michigan State basketball game ends up with them putting their walk-ons, walk-ons in, and then Vandy put their walk-ons in the end of the game. I can't think of a week with two more embarrassing losses. We've had two losses that probably hurt more, but I can't think of two more embarrassing in one week. My mom wants it to be clear. She would not be in those boots. I don't think anybody thought she would. Karen would look good in those boots, though. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Ryan, you know, it's a good thing you're there. Stay away from my mom too. Yeah. I mean, Ryan, you go hang out with Theo Vaughn. Remember, what did you do with my mom in my wedding, Ryan? Grosemont was pinching my butt the whole night. That's not true. Oh, stop it. No. Ryan. I did say Shannon on cover zero that Theo Vaughn being in that picture would be like if it was my senior day and you saw the picture and it was me, mom, and Larry, and Dana Carvey. That's what it would be like, right?
Starting point is 00:16:55 Yeah, it kind of would. It's just odd. Somebody make that happen. Yeah. Do your thing. Me, Mom, Larry, and Dana Carvey at the Middlesboro High School Senior Day. 859-28027. We'll talk more about this.
Starting point is 00:17:08 We will take your calls. Get out of here. I'd like to hear your opinion. Unlike what people think. We don't censor the calls. Shannon on the morning show, Shannon just gets to decide by whether you like. you or not. We'll take a break and be right back. This is KS. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's
Starting point is 00:17:28 telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. Starting point is 00:18:32 we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:18:57 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness.
Starting point is 00:19:23 So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion-dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the Aihar Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I knew you were going to play this. This is the part that I, like, I know Shannon.
Starting point is 00:20:49 You and I, we're different people, but we have the same brain meld when it comes to music. I knew you were going to play this, and I like it. It's the right choice. Yeah. All right, parents shown in games. Steph Curry's mom. They did show her a lot. Yeah, they did.
Starting point is 00:21:04 I don't think as much as this. Not even close. Greg Marshall's wife. Oh, well, yeah, that's true. Did show a lot. Yeah, they did. Drew knows. something about her. Drew ended up on Inside Edition because of Greg Marshall's wife. I was an international
Starting point is 00:21:19 story that day because of her. Lonzo Ball's dad. Yes. Yeah. That's a good one. That's a good one. That's probably close to be honest, Ryan. A.J. McCarron's girlfriend and mom. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. For sure. How about the Reed Shepherd family? Well, for the local broadcast, yes, they did show Jeff and Facey a lot. Yeah. But I think it's not just Shannon. that they showed her. It's just the behavior. Oh, yeah. I mean, it was a party the entire game.
Starting point is 00:21:51 And it got more and more provocative as the night went on. Yeah. It was a party. Well, listen, do your thing. I'm not, girl, I'm not, I'm not hating. That be people you think he'll be watching Vandy, Tennessee just for Pavia's mom this weekend. Let me ask you, if it was your mom, would you? be embarrassed? Probably. Yes. I think we all would of our mothers. Definitely.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Okay. So yes. But do you think he was? Or do you think he's just like, this is great? She was probably at the table at Barstall, Nashville with him until three in the morning that night. But like, is there something good about that relationship where like he's hanging out with his mom or is it odd? I guess it's better than an absent mom. They seem to hang out and be friendly. I would just be like, mom, it's my senior day. maybe some pants and then we're good. The boots. What person writes, Matt, I'm 62 years old. Those boots are fashionable now. I wear them. Yes, she's on a different level, but don't absolutely crush thigh-high boots.
Starting point is 00:23:01 62, Shannon, and wearing them. Good for you. There's no age limit on boots, I guess, or booty shorts. I mean, let's, it's, it is senior day. It's not like she was just going out with her friends. and there is a white elephant in the room. Okay, I'm worried. I'm worried too. I'm not even in the same room as you, Matt. You know what? Run it by Drew.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Okay. Run it by Drew. Okay. Whisper it to Drew. And Shannon, I'm going to let Drew decide if he gets to say it. Okay. All right, because I trust Drew's understanding. I'm back.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Can he say it? I mean, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. So I'm asking you, can he say it? Sure. All right, go ahead. A white elephant in the room. is she's a haughty. That's why she was being shown as often as she was. It wasn't great, but I expected worse. Yeah, I did too.
Starting point is 00:23:51 I mean, that's not even a white elephant. I mean, I think everybody knows that. Well, we didn't mention, haven't mentioned it yet. Because we are grown-ups and we imply things. We don't need to say explicitly what people know. We don't need to- He's a mommy-comy. Okay, I would have stopped him on that one. Sorry, that's on me, guys. That is on you, Drew. You knew this is what he was going to do. You knew that. Mario, you too. Yeah, if Mario's in there and let that happen, that's on him too. All right, Adam.
Starting point is 00:24:18 Go ahead, Adam. I feel like Joe Kim Noah's parents. Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one from the past. Good call, Adam. The game aside, which was terrible, we all know that. You know, I actually found myself liking Diego Pavia, and I know he's at the end of draft boards.
Starting point is 00:24:39 I hope he makes it in the NFL and maybe his mom can quit her job at Jason. Dezabu? Oh, stop. That's rude. He's not going to make the draft, I don't think, Shannon. I've not seen him. I mean, it's probably like a Tebow situation where, like, his talents are perfectly served at the college level. Yeah, I don't think that he will, but, I mean, I don't, you never know. You never know. There could be a team out there. I mean, there'll be somebody who brings him in the camp, I guess, and they'll see, I mean, how tall is he? He's short. He's like a little Doug Flutie.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Yeah, that's exactly. That's a great way to put it. He is, he is a Doug Flutie. So, I mean, it's worked for Flutie. Maybe it could work for them, but I just don't see it happening, but I could be wrong. By the way, I don't see any value in, in like going over the game. We stunk. Let's talk for just a second about where this fan base is. It is, we had four weeks ago where we did the little raise your hand, 97% of the audience at Whiskey Thiepe wanted a new coach, right?
Starting point is 00:25:38 Right. Then we did it last week, and how many of the audience wanted a new coach? it was like three. Mm-hmm. Right. Totally flipped. Totally flipped. Now where do we think they are? I think we're right back where we were.
Starting point is 00:25:54 I think it's that bad. You think it's back to Whiskey Thief? Yeah. Okay. I mean, the three-game win streak was fun, and I'll never diminish a win over Florida or at Auburn, but I think he still needs more than that to really win people over. So does that say fans are in some ways fickle?
Starting point is 00:26:11 You could flip back and forth that quickly. Sure. I was thinking it was more closer to maybe 70, 30. Okay, so Ryan, if you were to go online, it's almost universal. We need a change. Correct. Do you deal with people, because I think you probably more than anybody on this show do, do you deal with people who are like we should still give him another year? I do, but then again, most people I deal with are closer to my age.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I think maybe the older generation. So what are those people saying? Because I think those people are probably not on message boards. They're not on social media. What is it that they say? This is what I think. You know, we've gone through these horrible UK football seasons of the 90s where we finished 1 in 10 and 2 and 9 when there was 11 game seasons.
Starting point is 00:27:03 It had the nation's longest losing streak, all those losing games to Tennessee to Florida. Just the fact that we're back to this level is such a turnaround. They give credit all the stoops. So I think they're willing to throw him a little life jacket, the life preserver. But what if there's people who would say the life preserver was we brought you back after you were four and eight last year? Yeah, that was a bad year last year. But I think just as me, again, the people I talk to, the fact he's kind of turned it around here in the middle of the season, even despite the game yesterday. Let's say there was no Louisville game.
Starting point is 00:27:36 And you were the AD. Also knowing you have to pay a $37 million buyout. are you letting him go, Ryan? I'm not. I'm bringing him back because I'm going to bring Cutter Bolley back and I'm going to bring Bush Hamden back and we're going to build on this what we started here this year. I got to find that money because next year is not going to be fun. People aren't going to buy tickets. So you are letting him go. People are going to make a statement next year.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Unless they find a way to market cutter Bowley and find a way to bring some life into the stadium. I mean, the people bragging about how fun of Vanderbilt game was is my biggest take. way of all of it. Forget that the loss, the fact that Vanderbilt has an atmosphere that people want to be a part of is a bigger problem. By the way, white elephant doesn't mean what Ryan said it's it. No. That's like a Christmas. It's like a Christmas game. That's a change of gifts.
Starting point is 00:28:25 The elephant in the room. The elephant in the room. Not the white elephant. It could be a white elephant. And all of us skipped over that, by the way. Shannon and I will give our verdicts after the break. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Do you listen to him cackling in the background? What is going on?
Starting point is 00:28:46 Why are you? You are, we all need to have this self-confidence, Ryan does in himself. He, like, he cackles like a hyena about things. And it's the jokes he makes, Shannon, which usually are involving flatulins. Yeah. Or it's an attractive older woman. Those are the two things that make him laugh the most.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Am I right about that? Yeah, those are his weaknesses. Those are the, like, he would be the easiest person to do comedy for. Yeah. Everybody wants him in the front row. Everybody wants him in the front row. And there are two kinds of jokes and he'll just laugh. That's Ryan.
Starting point is 00:29:27 By the way, I just, somebody sent out a picture and I just retweeted it of the mother with the security guard behind her. And the look on his face, you need to go to Twitter and look at it. Have you seen it? Oh, yeah. First of all, is she wearing a crown? Is that like a princess crown? Maybe she had one on at some point. I didn't realize that.
Starting point is 00:29:54 I think she is. Why does she have a football? Probably one of the 30 touchdowns he threw, he gave to her. Everyone in the crowd probably had a football from that game. All right. So we didn't do ours. Shannon, what would you do? if there's no global game and that was the end of the season right there.
Starting point is 00:30:12 The season just ended today. Yeah. I would bring them back. I would bring them back for one more season. But if we have the season again next year, that's it. Does the, for YouTube, does the $37 million change it? Like, let's say there was no buyout. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:29 If there was no buyout, would you both let him go? Yeah, if there's no buyout, that makes things a lot easier. But I mean, the $37 million complicates everything. So let's just live in a world where there's no buyout. buy out. Are you both doing it? Are you both letting him go? I'm still not letting him go because I think they've got something to build on. Five wins in this season the way it started. I think it's a good turnaround. I think it's a good coaching. I mean again, we've got to forget what happened Saturday. So you're on the,
Starting point is 00:30:55 no matter what, you'd bring him back. Unless they get blown out again Saturday, then I might keep my mind. And Drew's on the, even with the 37 million. So let me ask you, Drew, the question I asked the caller, where are you getting the money? You got to find it because at some point... Let's say I tell you I can't get it. I don't... There's just nobody who'll give it. So what am I doing?
Starting point is 00:31:17 Well, at that point, I think we look at the AD and say, how did we get in this situation? Fair enough. At some point, you have to look at the money you're going to lose. It is crazy that they could not sell out one single football game with Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas, and Florida on the schedule. That's embarrassing in itself. So if you run it back, you're not going to sell it again next year. So at some point, you're just losing money and running fans off. And that's going to outweigh the...
Starting point is 00:31:39 Well, people say that. I'm not sure that's true. I mean, for instance, last year was our highest season ticket sales of any year besides COVID. And I believe we were 1,200 down this year. Now, that's a decent amount of money, but it's not $37 million. Next year, I would expect it would be down some, but like we had a caller say 20,000. Ryan, that's not, it wouldn't be down that much. I wouldn't think.
Starting point is 00:32:06 No. I mean, that would be one out of every two season tick holders saying no. If they do another spring where they don't even speak, that could happen. All right. So for me, I'm making you all do it. I'll answer two. There needs to be a change in terms of it's just better for everybody if there's a different coach next year. But I do think if I'm trying to figure out the financial responsibilities here,
Starting point is 00:32:36 I don't think you can just pay a $37 million lump sum in 60 days. I just don't think the University of Kentucky can do that. Now, if I had a magic tech, like tech billionaire who came to me and said, Madam, I'm going to write you the check, then honestly I'd probably do it because I think it's necessary because I think the fan morale is so low. But if you don't have that, then I'm with you, Shannon. and I don't think you can do it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:07 Because I don't know where you, that money does not grow on trees. You have to remember that from every other fan base that did this, they had a deal where they could pay it over time. Jimbo Fisher is the only one that had a lump sum payment. Interestingly enough, Drew, same agent Mark Stoops had, who negotiated it. And two Texas A&M alums came and said,
Starting point is 00:33:32 we'll pay for it. and that's why they did it. We don't have that. And it seems like Kentucky's biggest people that possibly could pay that are very close with Mark Stoops and maybe not pay it. And I think four or five weeks ago, some of those people agreed there was a change needed. I'm not sure if that's what they think now. I'm not trying to speak for them, but I'm not sure if that's what they think now. Now, maybe Shannon, if you lose by 50 to Louisville, they'll think something different, right?
Starting point is 00:34:01 Yeah. And it really does all come down to this. game, I think the narrative for stoops that we're going to have in the offseason, all comes down to what happens on Saturday. Last question. Let's say you beat Louisville and made a bowl. For Drew, for you, you still make the change? If you're six and six and you make a bowl. I still have very little faith in next season, but I'll admit it is much harder to fire
Starting point is 00:34:27 him if he made it to a bowl game and pay that. Yeah. So, I mean, that's where we are. And you know, I say that with zero faith moving forward. I don't, let me just say, I don't have a lot of faith. But I also know coming up with that money, they don't have it. Unless it magically appears they don't have it. Because this athletic department is at this point, this will change in five or six years when the business of NIL becomes more clear. But right now, our basketball and football.
Starting point is 00:35:03 roster. We're dependent on the generosity of a handful of people. And I don't think those people feel the way a lot of this fan base does, at least to me. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's kind of the sense I get. And next year's schedule is where you've got four home games in the SEC, five road games in the SEC. Yeah. Nick Rosh is sending me, so season tickets last year were down about 25. So that's a decent amount. But what is what does season tickets cost?
Starting point is 00:35:41 2,500 is times what, right? 2,500 times what's a season ticket cost? $1,200, something like that, average? Yeah, that's so widespread. Yeah, but what would the average be, you think? Not sure. Let's just say $1,500. Let's just say that.
Starting point is 00:35:57 That's probably high, but let's just say it. $2,500 times $1,500 is what? Shannon put that into the thing. 2,500 times 1500 would be 3.7 million. 3.7 million. That's conveniently a decimal place from 37 million. So that means to make up that 37 million, you would need 25,000 people to stop their season tickets.
Starting point is 00:36:26 I don't know if that'll happen. That's not going to happen. So I'm just doing the math. I'm not making judgments. That's just the math. Mark, go ahead, Mark. Guys. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Hello. Yeah, you were on the right track that I thought. On Saturday, you kept asking everybody where the money's come from. You have 38,000 season ticket holders for football. You charge each one $200 more. That comes up to $7.6 million. You pay the new coach $6 million. You've got $3 million left over.
Starting point is 00:37:00 If you can't get the 30s, you can't get a loan, so you don't have to do the 60 days. I mean, they have to get a loan. You're paying for the new coach, but you're still not paying for the old coach. The old coach, we have a budget. You have a budget next year. If he's still here, you have a budget of $9 million.
Starting point is 00:37:20 But our budgets in the bar of budgets. No, no, no, no. The $9 million, they have to pay it in 60 days. Okay. So you get a loan. Well, the problem is, though, I don't know who's the problem. Here's a problem. I'm not, I bet they could get a loan. I bet they probably could. Here's the problem. For the first time, hang on, hang on, hang on. Hang on. For the first time in 20 years, the athletic department is in the red now because of NIL.
Starting point is 00:37:49 They used to be in the black. We used to give money back to the school. We are now in the red and we actually had to take a loan from the school. It's the first time we've ever had to do that by my understanding in a long, long time. So this is probably the worst financial position the athletics department has been in in 20 years. Have you looked at that schedule next year? Oh, it's terrible. It's going to be terrible. Whoever the coach. So we're going to relive, we're going to relive what we did this year again.
Starting point is 00:38:23 But that still doesn't make the money, but that still doesn't make the money appear. I mean, I think 38,000 season ticket holders pay $200 more. 38,000. But you're still 30 million short. No. Well, you do whatever. You have to get a loan. If you do 38,000 times $200, gets you $7.6 million per year.
Starting point is 00:38:48 And you still owe $30 more million. Then you have, then you, that's 7.6 per year. You get a loan. But they have to pay it in 60 days. They have to pay it in 60 days. You have to get a loan to pay the $45 million. Let's just get that alone, Mitch. Let's just keep getting loans.
Starting point is 00:39:05 We have a loan to put Wi-Fi in the stadium. Yeah, we don't. I mean, and there's also the fact that they're trying to do this entertainment district, which I don't know it will work, but my guess is they have a huge budget for that. So, again, I'm just giving you realities. I'm not the one making the decision. Drew would let him go now. Money be damned.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Shannon and Ryan would keep him. I am leaning towards getting rid of him, but I also. because somebody's going to have to show me where my money comes from, because I don't know. We keep focusing on Stoops and Bowley and the schedule. It's a money issue. It's money. Where is Mitch's accountability? He handcuffed both programs.
Starting point is 00:39:45 I think it's a completely fair question. No one's saying his name in all this out loud. Well, it should because you're right. I am. That contract was a disaster. So, yeah, Stoops could be better, but we're in this situation because of Mitch, not Stoops. Stoops just signed a paper that was beneficial for him, which anyone would have signed.

Starting point is 00:44:07 Lots of comments coming in. A lot of people have thoughts. This is good. I mean, like, people need to express themselves on this stuff. One person writes, Matt, all my friends are Ryan's age. I feel like I know people are similar to him. I don't know anybody that doesn't want to change. Who are these people that Ryan know that are cool with bringing them back?
Starting point is 00:44:25 it's a good question I mean not not their names but like what kind of people are we talking well I can read you a text message I got if you want me to go for the guy's trying to be funny boy he gets mad he does I love you for that you like he ride a laugh but then if somebody writes him on the 10 level ride does not like strangers giving him a hard time
Starting point is 00:44:45 I know you guys can do it they can't okay here's a text I got you're talking about this currently I think stoops needs another year his mentality is perfect for us he had a terrible schedule the last two years If Bowley is this good and they can improve offense, I'm good with it. See, I wish we could do, Drew, a poll of the fan base because I continue to believe it's hard to get a representative sample. You know what I mean? Like, it's hard to know.
Starting point is 00:45:09 If you go on Twitter, everyone wants to fire it. If you go on KS Board, virtually everyone wants to fire it. If you come to our shows, you see how it fluctuates week to week. Yeah. Right. I don't know what it's like if you're, if you were to take a poll of the season ticket holders. I don't know. I feel like I say this a lot.
Starting point is 00:45:36 I feel like we interact with more different types of fans than anyone. And it's still hard to read because every group is different. I had a lady on Friday at the remote Shannon at parlor pizza get mad at me and say, you're way too mean to stoops. And I was like, me? Yeah. There are people who think I'm too nice to him. So I don't know, Drew, how you could get a representative sample.
Starting point is 00:46:01 And I wish I could. Like if I said to you text in the text machine, do you want to keep him or not? I think the knots would definitely win because the keeping people are going to be like, well, I don't want to. So I think we're, Drew, it's like we're all almost guessing, you know? Yeah, and I'm with you. I'll get two messages in two minutes. And one of them will say you're being too mean. stop being Frank Franklin. This is unbecoming. You're not a fan. This is bad for the university.
Starting point is 00:46:26 And the other person is like, you're not being mean enough. And they will be back to back in my messages a minute apart. And the other thing is we all tend to in life hang out with people that are like us, Shannon. So we end up with hearing the opinions of people who have the same opinions we are. It's exactly what happened to my party in 2016. Democrats only hung out with each other and then we couldn't believe Trump won. Yep. If you did that poll this past Friday, you'd have a completely different result than you would. You would. And you would. And you Even Drew, who's the one who most thinks there should be a change, acknowledges if we beat Louisville, maybe it flips.
Starting point is 00:46:59 And so, like, that's why this is all so much in flux, it seems like, even week to week. One person writes, Matt, I don't understand how boosters could want him back. Do they not care about the university or do they just care about their friendship? Well, that's easy for you to say because it's not your money. So let's just put our money where our mouth is. how much would you be willing to give to pay Mark Stee? How much money would you be willing to write on a check that goes directly into Mark Stoop's pocket? Me, $0,000 because I didn't put them in this spot.
Starting point is 00:47:37 I won't get $800,000 in retirement. Now, Drew is the one who most wants a change, and he's willing to put up $0. Because I'm not backing up the situation that someone put them in. And that's a reasonable position. Yes, it is. If there were normal circumstances, I would, but I'm not letting someone out. Okay, but think about that. We want these people to pay money, and a lot of them may have Drew's view of, well, I'm not the one that did it.
Starting point is 00:48:02 I ain't paying. And so then where are you getting the money? It's not going to magically appear somewhere. Because Drew's position is completely reasonable. Shannon, that would be the position you would have. Of course. I ain't paying it. You did this.
Starting point is 00:48:17 Do whatever you want with the money, as long as it's not mine. I don't care what you do with it. And I think there's... That would be just another bailout for him. And I think there are a couple boosters. So fans want a bailout. And there are a couple... And some of the boosters may be like,
Starting point is 00:48:29 well, it ain't coming from me. So, Mark Anthony. What's up? Who's next? Good morning. Oh, y'all. Go ahead. Listen, fellas.
Starting point is 00:48:39 Diego's mom, the first shot I saw her shit or put propped up on that rail in front of it. It wasn't the guy high boots. It was the area between the top of them boots and them... All right. All right, Mark, that's a Ryan Lemon comment right there. Everybody just turn it down a little bit, okay? There was little boys watching the football game fell in love with Diego's mom and didn't really know why. I understand.
Starting point is 00:49:04 As far as next week's game, when you have a horse, you run him in a race and he finishes DFL, your next move is to go down in class. And I really think next week's game, We're going down in Clare. We are. That's true. That gives us a chance. This is an allowance race next week.
Starting point is 00:49:27 So if people are still wanting to get rid of Stoopsie after next year, even if he, next month, next week, even if he wins, who are you going to get to replace him? And is that person going to be able to recruit enough talent? Well, I disagree. That would be one place I would disagree with you. There are people. I appreciate the call you could get.
Starting point is 00:49:47 This job is now much more attractive. than it was 15 years ago. In my opinion. Dennis and Richmond. Go ahead, Dennis. It all comes down Saturday and, you know, if Stoach wins this game and has a good off season that promote bowling, there's going to be season tickets. I'm a season ticket holder and, you know, I'm going to renew my, it all comes down to
Starting point is 00:50:14 Saturday. Okay, so is that right, Dennis? Your renewal will depend on whether we'll depend on whether we're. we beat Louisville? Well, I don't want to, it's going to come down to a lot of things, but I've been to see ticket over since 98, so I'm not one of these people that's going to, I'm not irrational to give up my season tickets because of the winning football game. But I had become frustrated over the last few years, a last couple of years especially
Starting point is 00:50:43 because we got drugged three times this year in SEC. We did. Three times we got drugs. And at this point, don't get me wrong, I'm a stupid guy. But at some point, this has got to end. Now, to me, like I said, it all comes down to Saturday and what we do Saturday. I think there's a lot of fans, Dennis, I got to cut you off because we've got to go to break. I think there's a lot of fans like Dennis.
Starting point is 00:51:07 More than you think who are like, their view can change game to game. And Saturday will be big for those people. We're going to take a break. We'll come back. Hour number two. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite.
