This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:34 This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. We are Tuesday, November 25th, just two days before Thanksgiving. And I'm Matt Jones on a rainy day in Louisville, Kentucky. Ryan and Drew are in Lexington, Shannon, is at the studio. So it's one of those days where we're all over the place. you can still give us a shout on the Clark's Pubbing Shop phone line 859, 280, 2287.
Starting point is 00:03:06 A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-745254, and this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, if you call T.J. I'll make them pay. I thought yesterday was one of our better call days in a long time. A lot of different voices, a lot of people who gave different opinions, and I love to hear more from people. people today. I also, yesterday, Ryan, I went back and looked at the text machine outside of days where I asked for a poll, right, where I say text yes or no. Right. Yes. Outside of those days, this was the, yesterday was the most different phone numbers to ever text the text machine. Not the most text received, but the most different numbers were all during the show yesterday in the history of the text machine.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Well, you said it was one of the, it was a top three day for callers, but a lot of different voices, a lot of people we've never heard from. I'm sure you're seeing the same thing on that text machine. I think it's just a lot of people who have strong opinions about everything that's going on. And it's good to see. It confirms my view that I've held, which is, I think the majority of the fans want to change.
Starting point is 00:04:23 I think there is a significant minority that don't, but the majority do. but when you get to the issue of firing, it becomes a little more complex. And you even saw it with the four opinions on this show yesterday. So I hopefully we get to do more of that today. Yep. Everybody's just fans that wants their team to win games and be a little better. And right now, cross the board, we're in a little bit of a slump and it's got people worked up. Now, you know, oftentimes, Ryan, I start these shows by complaining about something.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Have you noticed that ever over the years? I've never known you to complain. Come on. What are you talking about? Occasionally something frustrates me. You know, and it's happened. It's happened. So I'm going to let's... I'm going to throw it a little bit different. I'm actually going to say something that I want to compliment Ryan, an institution that never gets complimented. Okay. All right. Roll tape, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:05:17 All right. So this probably will surprise you all. But a few weeks back, I realized that my driver's license and my car. registration was all, uh, had all expired. Come on. You got to be kidding me. Shocking news there. Does that surprise you drew? Not even, not even a little bit.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Probably expired three years ago. They did not expire three years ago. The car may have expired Shannon a little while. The skittles you gave me yesterday expired four years ago. Okay, that's what I'm getting at. All right. So, so, so a few weeks ago, a few weeks ago, a few weeks ago, had a wreck.
Starting point is 00:06:00 And it was not, it was not great. It was actually, it was actually kind of a, a bad wreck. And, you know, it totaled my car. And in the process of dealing with it, we realized, Drew, that these things had happened. By we, I mean everybody, because everybody makes mistakes, right? Like, things happen. Like, when you say everybody, it's you and who are the other parties in this other? I mean, the other parties would be the police, right?
Starting point is 00:06:26 that when they came to the wreck, you know, that kind of thing. So, you know, I mean, I'm going to have to, you know, you get a, Shannon, you get a ticket for that, right? Yeah. So I'm, I had to yesterday go and get all this stuff updated. By the way, on Sunday, I went to see the car because I'm, you know, I'm not going to be able to drive it again. And I, you may remember, Ryan, there's a bunch of stuff in my car in the back seat. No, again, another shocker. You got a bunch of junk in your car?
Starting point is 00:07:00 I had, you know, I've had that car since 2017. 235,000 miles on that Lexington. It served you well. It really has served me well. I mean, I didn't want to, I didn't want to wreck it. Not a single oil or change. No, 6 to 8, probably. 6 to 8 over the course of the time, right?
Starting point is 00:07:23 And I, it had served me well. but when it happened, it was raining. So some things didn't survive, right? Some things did not make it through the wreck. I think I lost 12 New Yorkers, New Yorker magazines. Rest in peace. The rest in peace. Some gifts that were given to me over the years from various shows,
Starting point is 00:07:48 maybe didn't make, like T-shirts and that kind of thing. Right. Yes. Some of that didn't make it. Some things did make it, including So I had a box of packs of skittles, probably eight to nine skittles that were strewn, strown all over the car. So I thought I would be nice yesterday and give one of the packs to Shannon. True, isn't that nice of me to give one of the packs of my car's skittles that survived to Shannon?
Starting point is 00:08:17 Yeah, that's so nice. It's so generous, especially this time of year. Now, Shannon, you then realized maybe it was a little old. Well, I didn't think to look at, you know, the expiration date on the Skittles as I opened them up. Because you don't think about Skittles expiring. No, I thought Skittles were evergreen. I did too. You could have them through the apocalypse and Skittles would still be good.
Starting point is 00:08:36 But no, I was wrong because I nearly broke a tooth on how hard these Skittles were. Not to mention they tasted disgusting and nothing like a Skittles. So I go, what is the expiration date on these? And it was August of 2021. So you gave me four-year-old Skittles. I don't think people realize. I don't know, Ron, did people realize Skittles expired? I would think they would last through eternity.
Starting point is 00:09:00 I didn't have that expression. I can confirm. So, Shannon, I'm sorry about giving you expired skittles. Yeah, well. I'll also let you know, Drew, the pickle jar. Oh, from Picklesburg. It survived. Don't worry.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Oh, good. I remember, I remember buying that. I was going to practice chugging pickle juice about six years ago. That's right. It survived the wreck. and was fine. So yesterday was, all right, I'm going to have to, like, clean all this stuff up, right? So I'm going to have to go get my license renewed and go get my registration renewed.
Starting point is 00:09:33 And I don't know. When I've done this process over the years, right, it is like a tedious process can take hours, you know, sitting and waiting, right? So I had prepared essentially my entire afternoon in Louisville to deal with this stuff. I have to give a shout out to the Jefferson County DMV and Jefferson County Clerk's Office. I was in and out of the DMV in like 12 minutes with a renewed license. And in and out of the clerk's office in maybe four minutes having paid the registration. I can't believe how efficient these government offices have become. And as somebody who would certainly complain if it was otherwise, Ryan, I feel like they deserve a salute.
Starting point is 00:10:23 They do. When's the last time you got a license? When's the last time you went out, you went there? Josiah and I just did it like a couple months ago when he turned 18. Was it quick for you? It lasted probably an hour, hour and a half. Okay. So is that Fayette County?
Starting point is 00:10:37 Fayette County. All right. They need to learn from Jefferson County. They need to learn. Because you walk in Shannon now and it's completely different. You know how it used to be a multi-step process? You'd talk to this person, then you'd go get an eye test, then you'd go take a picture. Then you'd wait for them to print it off.
Starting point is 00:10:52 You know what I mean? Yeah. Now you can do it all with one person. You had a completely different experience than I did because it was years ago, though. But it took me like two hours to go through this one. But I'm saying they've done something now. Well, good. Because you can walk up there.
Starting point is 00:11:06 You take the little eye test in seconds. Like it's right there with the lady. She takes the picture in seconds. They look and they, Burtum, burda, burda, be bop, boop, and the next thing, you know, nowadays, I guess they have to go through this process, so you don't get it there. You get a temporary one, and then they'll send you the other one. Right. But it's amazingly efficient.
Starting point is 00:11:27 And then I went out and did the registration out on Bula Church Road, a road I don't know exists except Shannon when I need to get my registration done every few years. Yep. In and out, quick. Like, you know how you used to have to pull those numbers and all that? Now they text you. They're like, bam, you're ready. the whole process, 45 minutes. And I just want to salute, Ryan, our government workers in the Jefferson County, DMV, and county clerk.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Because what used to be the most miserable experience you could have actually is unbelievably positive. Usually the weight is just waiting to get in front of the lady to take your picture and do all that stuff. You may have timed it perfect. A Monday on a holiday week, you may have picked the perfect time to go. You think that was just the right time to go? Maybe. Was it not very crowded in there in the waiting room? I mean, there were people, but it felt like a lot more people. were working, Drew, and it felt like there was spring in their step.
Starting point is 00:12:19 You know what I mean? Like, they didn't look. You know, sometimes you'll go and government workers look like they want to be anywhere on earth but there. These people were friendly. And I just thought they deserved a salute. And maybe people should go get their license renewed as part of a holiday experience. You're talking about a group in a place that's kind of known as a joke as a place
Starting point is 00:12:41 nobody wants to go. It is always the worst. So I'm glad you're shouting on. a spotlight on Louisville for being a place that's getting it done efficiently. So Louisville takes a lot of crap for things, Shannon. But I thought I would give a salute to that because it went extremely well. And now I am arguably up to date. Now, do you have the real ID now or do you have the fake ID?
Starting point is 00:13:02 Well, so the real ID, you have to have a lot of stuff. Yeah. And I'd brought all the bills that have your address, right? and I'd bought, brought my license, and I'd brought, there was something else. But then I didn't know you have to have a social security card. Who has that? Who does have that? Where does one even get that?
Starting point is 00:13:26 It's like it's on your tax record. You could have brought your tax records that they had anything that's got out on there. Anything that shows your social security number or like your passport, anything. I had a passport. That didn't work. It maybe doesn't have your social security number on it. Oh, well, we would have to. I would think a passport would, right?
Starting point is 00:13:43 Well, I brought my passport. She said I needed a social security card. And I don't even know. Shane, where do you even get those? I think you'd have to apply for it, you know, through the government. Apply through who? Who do I talk to? Social Security.com.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Do you all have a social security card? Yeah, I do. No. Okay, well. All right. So, Shannon, you don't. All right. I'll stick with you.
Starting point is 00:14:08 Yeah, yeah. Ryan, where did you get yours? I got mine when I was like 16 years old and it's still the same one. Still have it? Still have it? Did you laminated at least? Yeah, it's laminated? You still have it from when you're 16 years old?
Starting point is 00:14:21 Yep, I sure do. Yeah, I know exactly where it is. Oh, wow. So you said I can use my taxes? Well, I thought when we did it, when I did mine, I brought my tax return because it has your Social Security number on it. I showed them that. They told me they're like, you have to have all these documents and I had them all
Starting point is 00:14:38 except they were like you don't have a social security card and I did look at the woman and I go I don't know what that is where do you get that so are you going back to try to get the real ID yeah I just got the license you know there was a time crunch here Shane and there are things that I needed to go ahead and get the license done I'm just proud of you actually getting updated I mean how adult have you I true I would argue very adult to have all your paperwork and also it this is almost all your paperwork well the real ID what do you need a real ID for flying just getting on planes. Yeah, but you can use your passport, right? Which is what I've been using. So is there anything else I need it for? Is there anything you need that for that you can't use a passport? Just living in modern times, I guess.
Starting point is 00:15:21 But, I mean, your license is fine. And it's good for eight years, whereas I think the regular license is just like four years. Well, you can now get your regular license for eight years, too. Okay. But I still think you should get a real idea. The real idea was only $2 more. But it's a money grab. What's the difference?
Starting point is 00:15:38 A Social Security. card apparently. It's a money grab. Apparently. Same thing as an ID. And it would seem to me that the Social Security Guard, I'm probably a card, I'm probably Shannon going to have to go pay for too, right? I would think you, I guess you, I guess me too. I'll be right in line next to you. I've got to get one too. I can't believe you've had that since you were 16 and you haven't lost it? No, I still got my 16-year-old signature on it. Is it in your wallet? No, it's in a, in my drawer of my house. I think I got mine as a newborn and it's I still have it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Well, I do still have my birth certificate, which is amazing if you think about it. Was it with the Skittles in the car? It survived the rain. No, it's not been. It was not part of the Skittles. But anyway, so there's your little update, which I know everybody needed. 859-280-2287. The text machine is 772-745254.
Starting point is 00:16:32 We had a Mark Stoops call-in show and a Mark Pope call-in show last night. Both of them were very newsy. We will talk about them and what it means. That's all next here at KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending. Opinions are flying.
Starting point is 00:16:50 And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise. Breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves. Their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear. The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the highlight real.
Starting point is 00:17:12 From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaders to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. Starting point is 00:17:41 And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it,
Starting point is 00:18:02 and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about, wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:18:15 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
Starting point is 00:19:04 When Jacob met Levin this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:19:41 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:20:03 or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back. it is Kentucky Sports Radio. A lot of people saying on the tax machine, Ryan, they have the social security card from when they were a kid. Yeah. That's surprising to me. Put in your safe deposit box.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Did they give it to you when you were a kid? Like, is that something they handed out at school or something? Because I don't think I ever got one. I remember having one at one point. I think my mom just gave it to me, but I don't know where it is. I think when you're born, you get... They give it to the baby and say, don't lose this. They mail it to you?
Starting point is 00:20:37 Like Drew said, he's had it to me. his and his debate. I think they mail it to your, after you finally get assigned one number. Well, for people, apparently you can go and you can get it, you can get it at the social security website, Shannon, for those, for me and you. Okay. Real ID, people are telling me it's $12 more. I thought it was three. One person writes, real idea is a cash grab just like Shannon so they can follow our every move. I hate it. Yeah. That sounds like something you would say.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Just, well, I did say that first segment. You said they could follow your every move? Yeah, I said the cash grab thing, but that's pretty much it, right? I mean, they can follow you regardless if you. See, that's my view. They can already. All right. So, Drew, UK volleyball, one last night in the semifinals.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Tonight is the finals at 7 o'clock. We're going to have a watch party at the bar. I think you're coming, aren't you, Drew? I'm coming. I'll be there, yes, yes. Ryan, you're going to be able to stop by? Absolutely, I'm coming for this. All right, good.
Starting point is 00:21:32 This is exciting. We haven't had watch party with all of us there in a long time. So come on out and they play in the SEC Championship. They play Texas. And that'll be tonight at 7 o'clock. Congrats the whim. They fell down early last night to Tennessee and then came back and won the next three sets. Okay, let's go over these calling shows first.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Let's start with Stoops. Drew Stoop says in the call-in show, he didn't say I'm back, but he said almost everything except that. He talked about recruiting. He talked about how they're getting Juko players. He talked about why they're getting Juko players instead of high school guys basically saying if I'm going to spend this money, it's got to be for guys that contribute. That's a different discussion we could have another day.
Starting point is 00:22:13 But then he says, Cutter Bowley is committed to coming back in 2026. It was definitive. There was no caveat. There was no if this. He just said Cutter Bowley is committed to coming back in 2026 and we're going to build around him. How did you take those comments? I was listening to the whole show.
Starting point is 00:22:30 I had volleyball on mute while I listened to most coaches show. It was a unique experience there. But that would turn my head a little bit. bit. I kind of perked up and looked at my radio. Like, did he just say that out loud? He said something along the lines of Cutter's always been all in. He wants to be here and we got to build around him. It was, you know, I thought Cutter would make that decision in a few weeks or beyond, but Stoops kind of teased this with where he's leaning and it sounds like it might already
Starting point is 00:22:53 be done. First of all, do you, I mean, but I don't think you say that right unless you assume you're coming back. Is that fair? Correct. Yeah, he's talking about future, future, future. There was also the line of like it or not, I'm a Kentuckian. He's like, I didn't like that line. I didn't like that line. I mean, why does he feel the need to say like it or not?
Starting point is 00:23:13 I guess it is kind of addressing his critics indirectly, like whether you want me to be here or not. But I don't think anyone is like you're not a Kentuckian. Do you? I mean, maybe there's some people, but I don't think most people are like that. Even the ones who want to change, I don't think they're filled with get out of here. You got to move. Close up the bourbon. shop and get out of me. I don't believe
Starting point is 00:23:35 that's a kid. That felt a little defensive. But Ryan, how did you read the comments? He definitely sounded like a guy that plans on being here next year. And when he first said that about Cutter, I've got to be honest, my first reaction was, oh, you kind of threw that kid under the bus. You kind of kind of handcuffed him now. Because now if he, something happens
Starting point is 00:23:51 and leads now, he's a bad look on him. But then I thought a little more, dude, it's a perfect time to say that. This is game week for Louisville. You need a little more excitement in that locker room. Do you think there's a chance that he did put Cutter in a tough spot that Cutter like really hasn't decided and now you've put that out there? Well, I just, you know, before the season's over to make that comment, that's not really, I didn't
Starting point is 00:24:14 think initially fair to Cutter. But like I said, the more I thought about it, like, man, this is Louisville Week. This is going to get everybody fired up and know he's coming back and they can rally him. Well, Shannon, he better know he's right. Yeah. I don't think that you would maybe have a conversation with Cutter before he would just say that. But that sounded like something to me that Cutter might have said, but not this. necessarily wanted him to say it on the radio.
Starting point is 00:24:36 Right. You know, I don't know. I mean, honestly, I have no idea. I will say, Cutter being back would make people much more positive about it. Yes. But that is a very definitive statement. And so what I would say is, if you're going to do that definitive statement,
Starting point is 00:24:55 you better be right. You better be right. So I have no reason to think he's not right. So I'll assume he is. But if Cutter had not said that to him, you could see how Cutter, Ryan, and his family might not be thrilled about that, right? Yeah, kind of squinch, flinch a little bit. Switch or flinch, flinch, anything inch.
Starting point is 00:25:18 You hear your head coach said like, oh, we're not ready to announce that yet. You know, maybe they were going to say to see what was going to happen with the head coach and the offensive coordinator before they decide if he's definitively coming back. It was announced. Who's up first? Let's go to Kyle. Kyle, go ahead, Kyle. Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:25:36 So I'm a football fan talking about, I'm not necessarily a playoff or bus guy, but I do think the type of bowl or level of bowl you play and does matter or who your opponent will be, especially considering this year with the teams we have beaten. I just wanted you to clarify maybe some comments you made about a month ago, specifically about when you had thought that Sto's contract had the provision of an extension for a six and six season for one extra year. Now, that's not how it is. And then we go on this win streak, this little win streak.
Starting point is 00:26:06 And then you did mention that this season would be good if we went six and six. Can you just clarify? I don't know if I said to work good. I did say that it would be, well, maybe I don't know what I said. But here's how I feel. I think if they go six and six, that's a two-game improvement from last year. They made a bowl, and I don't think you can get rid of it. of him, and it is an improvement.
Starting point is 00:26:33 This team is better than the team last year. Now, whether it's significantly better to where it sort of makes you feel positive about the future, that's a different question. I don't really know how positive I feel about the future. But I do think if you started the season and you ask fans, what is a season that would be a success? That might have been the word I use. A success, I think most of them would have said it has to be at least six and six.
Starting point is 00:27:00 So that's why. Why were you so upset with the idea of extending him a year, though, for a six and six? Well, because I don't like, because I don't need, I don't want six and six forever, right? Okay. So if you're six and six, and then I'm giving you another year, remember what my argument was. When I thought the contract said, he got a year every time he got a bowl, and it was a six-year deal. What I said is that's a terrible contract because you're giving him six-chings. to fail and he still gets it keeps going, right?
Starting point is 00:27:36 So I didn't like that. But here's what I think 6 and 6 is. It's a year worthy of probably keeping your job, but at the same time, you don't get an extra year for going 6 and 6. Does that make sense? I appreciate. Yeah, I appreciate you for clarifying that. I could see a contract, Drew, where you said every time you win nine games, you get an
Starting point is 00:27:58 extra year. But I don't really like a contract in today. where you get an extra year just for winning six. Yeah, especially in a year where, heck, this year could look like we're going to win six. I think we're actually going to kill Louisville on Saturday, but people are still down over a six-win-year because not all six-win years. You think we're going to kill? I bet the alternate spread at minus six and a half. That's a boy.
Starting point is 00:28:19 I'm all in. Well, that's interesting because, well, we'll talk about it. We'll take a break. Be right back. This is KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:28:35 Here's Matt Jones. I have good news. Breaking news or? No, just good news. Ryan, do you not care about my good news? Usually that you would make an excited sound. I'm on the edge of my seat, anticipably awaiting what you're going to say. I bet already know what it is.
Starting point is 00:28:50 My mom has my social security card. Yeah. Of course she does. Multiple people text me that Karen's going to text Matt and say she has it. Who said that? Several. Several. Several.
Starting point is 00:28:59 You've guessed it. Well, that's. kind of normal. Like you get it when you're young and sometimes mom will hang on to it and put in a safe deposit boxers. So I have it, Shannon. I don't have to go get it. Well, congratulations. Now I'll be the only one to lie. Now that you'll be the only one to do it. One person writes, Matt, I'm 78 years old and I'm like Ryan. I still have my original card.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Jeff Drummond wrote me and said he still has his and it looks like an American Revolution document. Yeah, it's a little ratty around the edges. So you laminated yours. Did you like go somewhere professional to do it. I don't think it's not I don't think it's laminated. I think I just got in a little plastic bag. Mine looks like Jeff Drummond's. It looks like it's been to war. It's not laminated. Who knew? Who knew that was the, well, I'm surprised you haven't needed yours at some point. I don't think anybody's ever asked me for it. This birth certificate, I remember having to go through a process to get because I needed it for something. But yeah, never, never knew until this
Starting point is 00:29:56 real ID that this was the thing we need to do. Before, let me go back, Drew. for a second. You said you think we're going to win. Yesterday, you know, we were talking about you were kind of being Frank Franklin and Ryan was kind of being Ryan optimistic about the Stoops thing. And we had four kind of very different opinions about what the future should be. Maybe I didn't understand. If you think we're going to win and go six and six, at that point, is it you support bringing Stoops back or is it like, I don't really love it, but I think we have to? Well, I don't think you can fire them with six wins.
Starting point is 00:30:32 My whole issue almost doesn't involve Mark Stoops that much. It's that they're going to go into this year and they're going to act like there's not a football season again. Last year from December to August was embarrassing. Me, Nick Roush, and Adam Luckett went to whatever they called that spring game. We were there early. We were the only people that tweeted about it. UK football did not send out a tweet on the day of their spring game. It's like, are we the ones doing the promotion here?
Starting point is 00:30:55 then you have Texas, Ole Miss, Florida, Tennessee. You can't sell out one game. Mitch Barnhart is the longest tenured AD in the conference. So your problem is more with Mitch, right? The whole operation. How are we the worst game day atmosphere when we have the longest
Starting point is 00:31:11 tenured coach, the longest tenured AD? Like the fact, I know several people that were in Vandy, many of them work for KSR, they came back like, well, we could never do that. Well, how in the world is it about to be year 14 of Stoops and Mitch has been here 20-something years, and we can't possibly match Vandy's game day atmosphere? I mean, what are we doing? Yeah, okay. I don't disagree with any of those. And also, I do think they win Saturday, but a lot of that is because Louisville doesn't have players. And my prediction, I wrote this
Starting point is 00:31:38 yesterday, my prediction is if they win will be exact. I even predicted the Duke's Mayo Bowl. And if we go to that, I'm taking my victory lap. Like, Shannon, this version of Drew Franklin doesn't come out a lot. Like, like, this version of Drew Franklin. This version of Drew Franklin, is a rare site. It came out a couple times at the end of Cal. But we called him Frank then. Frank.
Starting point is 00:32:04 Yeah. But this version gets... Drew is not a guy who gets worked up. I've known him for many years. This seems to particularly get at you all the things you're talking about. And I think it's... And I do think you're speaking for a decent group of the fan base who feels the way you do about it. But you're saying it's really not about, hang on just a second, you're saying it's really not about
Starting point is 00:32:30 Stoops being the coach or not, it's the direction of the program as a whole. Correct. I mean, I actually have, I'm a little sympathetic to Stoops. It's not his job to go out and sell tickets. Now, he needs to win games. Absolutely. People don't go when they don't win. But I think the whole operation has been an embarrassment lately.
Starting point is 00:32:47 We are so far behind on NIL. We're like a tech company that ignored the internet for several years. Now we're going to have to catch up. playing from behind. And I know I don't do this very often. It's not like I just wake up grumpy. I did it for basketball because we haven't played on Saturday of the SEC tournament since 2018. At some point, we've got to be like, all right, this is getting pretty damn bad.
Starting point is 00:33:08 So thank you for letting me cook one more time, and it starts at the top. Frank is back. How do you not sell out a football game? A home SEC game. With that schedule in Keelman. Sorry, all right, I got you. I'm with you. And I agree with almost everything you said.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I do think that is a, those are major issues, the sort of culture around UK football. And the reality is they need, they need an injection of fresh blood, whether that's at the AD level or whether that's somewhere else. We have people who worked in the train industry trying to run the plane industry. And that's not a recipe for success. there needs to be new blood injected in. On the football side specifically. When you change coaching staffs, you by very nature inject new blood.
Starting point is 00:34:01 But if Stoops is going to be back, which it looks like he is, there needs to be a conscientious effort to inject life and new blood into all the things that Drew's talking about. I agree with him completely. Who's next? Let's go to Ron.
Starting point is 00:34:17 Ron, go ahead, Ron. How are you doing, Matt? Doing good. doing good i got two comments and then i have a question my first comment is i'm under the impression i've been talking listening to your real id stuff you had to have a real id to travel out of the united states sometimes you have a passport you can have a passport a real you have to have a real ID to get on a plane now or you can have a passport so i've been using my passport uh i got you okay i was under the impression because i just got my real idea about six months ago yeah but
Starting point is 00:34:51 you can't travel out of the country with that. You'd still have to get a passport. Even with your, you can travel around the country, but to leave the country, you're going to have to have a passport. Yeah, I got you. And then my other comment is, well, we have to beat Louisville Saturday, regardless because of their beat up so bad.
Starting point is 00:35:10 So if he loses to Louisville, I feel like he needs to be fired. If he beats Louisville, if he beats Louisville, then you probably keep him, and you for sure keep him if he goes to a bowl game, beats the little one we go to a bowl game and win. Well, I appreciate the call. I mean, he's going to be kept if they beat Louisville.
Starting point is 00:35:31 You know, Ryan, if they lose to Louisville, it's that purgatory we talked about. Five and seven, a lot of people are going to want him gone. They're probably not going to get rid of him. And everything Drew just said about changing things, Ryan, I think that becomes triply true if you lose to Louisville. I mean, it's true. true anyway, but it's even more true if you lose to Louisville.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Especially a Louisville team that's limping in. They've lost three in a row every day. There's somebody, another starter from Louisville that's hurt. They've quit. They've quit, right? And then there's, like, I'm not saying they're going to quit Saturday, but, like, you know, when your top three running backs, your top wide receiver are not playing, and your top quarterback may not play, Shannon, you've got to win that game.
Starting point is 00:36:18 You have to. Yep. I know Kentucky's got some injuries on defense, but they've got more problems than we've got. The quarterback situation is all messed up. And their culture. I mean, first of all, the fans seem to hate the quarterback. The quarterback threw the team under the bus and then was basically dropped a weight on his foot and wasn't able to play. And then they put two rookies in and they were awful.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Like, you just have to win that game. And I actually think Louisville has as much, if not more talent than us this year. but because of everything's going into it, you're going to have to probably find a way to win that. It's interesting how things have flipped so much since a month ago when it comes to the Louisville game. I mean, Louisville was looking at the playoff four weeks ago. You know?
Starting point is 00:37:01 The starting quarterback threw for 94 yards last week. Yeah, and a lot of it, most of it was on the first drive, and then he like didn't do anything the rest of the game. Who's next? Jerry. Jerry, go ahead, Jerry. Hey, Matt. You know, when I called after the Florida game,
Starting point is 00:37:16 and can I call me out? because it says to be a little too negative. But, I mean, anybody that couldn't enjoy that Florida beatdown after the spurter beatdowns has got something wrong with you. But by the concern then is that people are getting a little out over your skis, talking about bowl games and everything else after that game because I knew Vandy was really good. And I was afraid what was going to happen last week's going to happen. They're going forward to the little game. Littleville, like you said, looked real different three weeks ago. And this thing's scary.
Starting point is 00:37:42 It depends on this quarterback. And, you know, but I think no matter what. What happened Saturday? I think, you know, there's one person that matters and that's Barney, and he's made his man that mine up to bring suits back. So we're just going to have to see what suits does. But I think personally for me, if they don't make some major change on the
Starting point is 00:37:59 offensive side of the ball, then I just don't see it getting any better. And I just, my concern, I just see this being a kind of a slow bleed out rather than if they had lost those two games, it would have been a quick bang. You may be right about that. You may be right about that. It could be. It could be, and I appreciate the call and prayers about your death. It very well could be that.
Starting point is 00:38:22 Listen, there's a difference between whether or not I think he's going to come back. There are three different positions. Whether or not I think he's going to come back, and I think he is, whether or not I think he should be back, and I lean towards it would be better for the program if he wasn't. And then question three, whether or not I think it's going to work. And on the it's going to work, I'm a pessimist, unfortunately. And I hope to become not a pessimist, but that's where I am right now.

Starting point is 00:41:09 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant, this went to a billion dollar fraud. So, Shannon, you and I are getting killed for not having a social security card. People can't believe it.
Starting point is 00:43:14 why can't they believe we're the only two people that don't have it i do not believe we're the only two people that don't have it yeah one person says matt you're not allowed to get a job without a social security card that is not false i've never showed a lot of jobs i've never i've never had it for one job yeah no one has ever asked me i got a new job with the nfl no but did they ask you for drew for your social security card no i have one but i don't know the last time i've actually needed it you just know your number that's a lie sir or ma'am one person says Ryan is so Ryan it is actually illegal to laminate your social security card yeah it's in like a baseball card sleeve it's like a plastic sleeve i said laminated
Starting point is 00:43:56 but it's like a little cover you didn't laminate it no right next to your dary strawberry tops card huh yep he's like here's my mark mcguire here's my berry bonds and here is my Social Security card. The problem is he traded it for a Billy Ripkin card. Called that Billy Ripkin card. And now he doesn't have it anymore. You know what? I watched through a lot of the Players' Era Championship last night.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Watched a lot of the tournament, had it on while I was doing things. And the atmosphere is not great because there's not a ton of people there, but the games sure are great. And Syracuse and Houston had a battle that was awesome. Alabama and Gonzaga, you know, I watched that one pretty closely because we're going to play both teams. And I'm not the most confident against those teams right now. I think, you know, the fact we have to play Gonzaga in, what, like a week and a half? They're really good.
Starting point is 00:45:00 They look really good. And, yeah, what do you think about it? I'm a confident Kentucky basketball fan 99 times out of 100. But when I was watching Gonzaga, Alabama, I was like, oh, no. We're in trouble. I mean, Gonzaga looks like a machine. They could be the number one team when that game rolls around. I think they are a number of.
Starting point is 00:45:19 I mean, they're good. They're high and good. And if you look at their schedule, they could lose. So they play today, I think they play somebody bad today. So they're going to win today. And then obviously, Shannon, with that stupid, you make the finals if you score the most points or whatever. So it's not clear who they'll play Wednesday. But presumably they'll play somebody good because they're going to be 2 and 0,
Starting point is 00:45:42 whether they're in the championship or not, we'll see. If they don't lose that game, if you look at their schedule, like we're the only team that has a chance to beat them. If they win this week their next two games, Ryan, they have a really good chance of going undefeated because, you know, their conference stinks. So, I mean, they might go into the tournament like 31 and 0. Yeah, they play Maryland today.
Starting point is 00:46:10 Okay, they're going to kill them. who else they play? Does he may have their schedule? They play UCLA in the non-conference They'll kill them. That's about it. It's really just us. And then their conference. Oh, are they?
Starting point is 00:46:21 Okay, well, maybe they're better. They're 18th, yeah. Okay, so maybe there's a chance they lose. Where is that game? At Gonzaga. They're not going to lose that. I mean, I think they're the best team in the country by far. I think they are definitely.
Starting point is 00:46:35 Yeah. Yeah, they're crazy because like it's, first of all, that EK has played there for, how long does that guy get to be in school? killed us. I know that won last year, but he had a big game last year. He killed us. He killed us last year. Yeah, he did. Yeah, he kills us. Brandon Garrison. Who? He got us in Rob, too. When you watch those games, though, by the way, Tennessee is going to end up making the finals because they won by 25 yesterday. Because they played Rutgers, right? So who do they play today? Who's Tennessee play today?
Starting point is 00:47:06 So they'll have to win today. But if they win today, they're going to make it. Tennessee, Houston. I'm looking forward to that one. Houston, okay. But if they win that game, they're going to make the finals because of how much they beat Rutgers by. But if they lose that game, then they may not. Well, does that mean Michigan? Michigan beat San Diego State by 40. Oh, they did. So you could get Tennessee, Michigan in the finals? That would beat that actually would stink because they're not. Oh, but Michigan plays Auburn, so they could lose to them. That's true. Okay. Yeah. Nate A. M. and the Gillespie guy, Tennessee went out and got looked pretty dangerous. I was hoping they would not pan out, but they're looking very good. Tennessee plays Houston All right
Starting point is 00:47:45 So let me ask you a question Watching those games yesterday Do you wish we were playing in it? Yeah I mean you know These high profile teams Playing each other in a preseason tournament Yeah I think I'd be all for it
Starting point is 00:47:59 It was good TV watching Yeah it was You know I mean they had They had TNT had what Chris Weber and Jamal Mashburn And Bruce Pearl And all those guys at the game Did you see Bruce Pearl
Starting point is 00:48:09 Talking to Candace Parker Shannon. No, what did he say? Kind of an amazing clip. So Bruce Pearl's doing it. He's doing the Tennessee game, I think, with Candice Parker and somebody else. And Bruce Pearl says on the broadcast with Candace Parker sitting there that Candice Parker caused some turmoil with one of his teams because she was dating two different players on the team. Oh, he said this on live TV.
Starting point is 00:48:35 He said Candice knows what happened. And Candice is like, oh, coach. No, no. And she goes, yeah. He was like, she was going to break one of my players' hearts. I called her into the office and asked her to wait to break up with him until the next night after the game. Oh, my God. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:48:54 Why are you saying this on our broadcast? He said she's dating one guy and talking to two others. He brought three people. Pull up the video, Shannon, real quick. And it's online and listen to Bruce. Like, she was laughing, but I was like, man, Bruce. You are calling her out on national television. But she handled it well?
Starting point is 00:49:17 She could have been going the other way. I don't know if she was bad. I think this is it. I haven't listened to it. Go ahead and play it. There were some stories that we can talk about. And there are other stories we can't talk about. But Candace was a beautiful young student athlete in Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:49:33 She was dating one of my guys. And she was talking to two or three others at the same. You can't hear her dirty boss. No. Candice, you remember there were a couple times I would come to you and say, honey, don't break up with him tonight, right? You remember that? I knew I did.
Starting point is 00:49:51 And she would be like, okay, we had that relationship. This was but sure beyond years. I was in your office and talking to you and I think that that's the thing that I love about the Jersey. Okay, so there you go. And then they just, I mean, that's like, you talk about Tennessee. She gets a date three men. The thing she loved about, yeah, I mean, she got to date four of the players on the team.
Starting point is 00:50:08 But, but, Drew, I couldn't believe he said that during the, in the middle of the broadcast. and she married a Duke basketball player right out of college. So it's like, there's a lot of math going on here. Wow. Yeah, I can't believe he said that. Really, you shouldn't say that at all, even in profit with a couple people around. But say it on the broadcast of the games, outrageous. And he just like threw it out there, Ryan, like, hey, by the way, Candace,
Starting point is 00:50:32 you had two or three of my guys at the same time. I don't think Bruce and Candles will be working together tonight's game. I probably didn't you separate those two. I'm surprised that didn't. get more attention. By the way, the Diego Pavia mom thing started getting attention yesterday. Did you see that? Like, it started, lots of people were talking about it. Kirk Herb Street did a podcast about it. It was on barstool. Like, we had that early. I think the video just started getting out yesterday.
Starting point is 00:51:01 It did. All right. So we're going to talk a little basketball too. Mark Pope had his show with some news as well. And take your calls. We'll be right back. KSR.
