Stockton Mortgage, NMLS 8259 Equal Housing Lender, NMLS Consumer Access.org. Welcome back hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-28027 here at Ashley Furniture in Glasgow on South Roger Wells Boulevard. Great crowd of folks here enjoying a, you know, kind of cold overcast day. But Kentucky and Gonzagg, a lot of people on their way
Starting point is 00:03:33 to the game. You get $25 MasterCard for taking a test rest in the Ashley Mattress Gallery. Remember, you know, interest until December 2030 on all premium mattresses. That's exciting. It is. How much do I get if I break a lamp? Do they pay me to do that? They pay me to take naps, but not break, okay.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I got it. I'm excited. I got a new car yesterday. That's what you said. It's out in the parking lot right now. Trying to learn it. They've done a lot of car technology since 2017. The last time I got a car. I didn't realize this car talks to me, berates me for doing the wrong thing. Really?
Starting point is 00:04:08 Well, you might need that sometimes. But I like it. So this was my first trip here today to Glasgow. What's that oil like? You know, first of all, I guess everybody knew this but me. I'm interested what you're about to say. You need oil in your car. No, that's not one.
Starting point is 00:04:28 I always thought, let me ask you a question. Didn't it used to be the case not that long ago you're supposed to change your oil every 3,000 miles? Wasn't that the thing? Now, I didn't do it, but let's be real. But like they put that little sticker. And then I think the last car I had, they said 5,000 miles that they were like, it's big oil fooling you, telling you it's 3.000. thousand it's five thousand so that's been my assumption when i get this car they said 10 when did that
Starting point is 00:04:59 start and how did they double it so quick you got to be loving this i mean you've proven you could go 20 000 well hold on with the catacac you can go none now it'll lock up in the end but you can do it for a long time but when did it become 10 are they told everybody 10 or just you just to try to get you to do it at all you stepping you down no i mean the manufacturer thing says 10. That feels like to me, it doubled quickly. Got to be a special type of oil. That's it. The high-end cars, I think, use that synthetic oil. So I think that's probably what you've got now.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Okay. Well, I didn't know. I mean, I was like, oh, this is great. Yeah, right? I didn't like doing that anyway. I certainly wasn't doing five. Maybe I'll do 10. It seemed like the perfect match for you. Do you have that butt vibrator that if you get off? What is it with you in the word?
Starting point is 00:05:49 No. Do you, like, have a bet to say the word butt every show? You find a way. No, I mean, it has the things like that. The butt barbarbarred, you get too close off the edge, it vibrates, and you go back to the other side. It vibrates the other side. I enjoy just kind of going back and forth. Essentially, I knew he was going to say it.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I knew I knew my butt all the way to Glasgow. It's Friday and it's payday. Come on, we got to celebrate a little bit. It's not payday. It is. It is payday. For you? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Me too. Oh, I thought we got paid first and the 15th. Not us. Not us low on the pay scale. Okay. Well, never mind. We all were in it together. 859-2802287.
Starting point is 00:06:43 So they did announce yesterday that college basketball. First of all, let me give a shout out to college basketball in general. this is the best year I can ever remember for there being a ton of really good non-conference. Absolutely. I mean, all the best teams, it feels like, are playing each other. So almost every night you can turn on the TV and see top teams playing each other. I mean, Kentucky and Gonzaga played tonight. You obviously had Duke, Arkansas, or excuse me, Duke, Florida, you had Arkansas, Louisville,
Starting point is 00:07:13 Kentucky, North Carolina. And then they just continue. If you look at the schedule over the next couple weeks, they're just more of these games coming. I think there's going to be, I think I saw a hundred games in the non-conference between ranked teams. Wow. Which, I mean, I doubt that's ever happened. So, and apparently there have been Matt Norlander wrote, they're just going to keep doing these.
Starting point is 00:07:35 They have found out that nowadays in college basketball, at most schools, people are not going to pay to come watch you play somebody bad. They're just not, I mean, you know, at Illinois, they're not coming to watch you play the university. of Chicago, plus the new rankings, the new net and Kimpom reward you for playing those games, even if you lose them. Basically, if you play good teams, you get more of a benefit for playing and losing than you do for beating bad teams. So you're going to see more of these. And yesterday it was announced that there's going to be a preseason college tournament
Starting point is 00:08:12 next year. By preseason, I mean non-conference. It will count. And the games Drew will be in Dubai. and they say major conference teams have already agreed to sign up to go to Dubai next year and play basketball. Leave aside any moral quandaries about this continued move American sports to the Middle East. What would you support Kentucky playing a tournament in Dubai? I mean, it would like none of our fans, well, not none, very few of our fans would be able to go.
Starting point is 00:08:46 agree it would probably be it like the games would be at like seven in the morning here it would just be a money I mean a sheet you talk about sheerly doing it solely doing it for money what would you think of that it'd feel weird it'll probably pay a lot because Dubai has all the money heck they probably have the game on top of one of those big fancy buildings out there I'd I'd much rather just we're gonna fly far can we go to Maui maybe I'm old school if we're going to make a trip that far but it seems like a ridiculous trip to make for any team I also don't know why Dubai would want. I mean, do people in Dubai know about American college basketball?
Starting point is 00:09:22 I wouldn't think so. They're about to, sounds like. Yeah, what do you think? You know, Pope said he wants to get back to these playing these type of events, kind of these tournaments, so maybe it's something he might be in favor of. But this is not one we can go to. I mean, like, this game today is in Nashville. It's cool like y'all can go.
Starting point is 00:09:37 You know, I mean, St. John is in Atlanta, New York City. I mean, that's what we can't go to Dubai. I mean, who's going to Dubai? First of all, it's like the most expensive place. in the world. We can't go there. We get the BB United. BBN United Classic. I would love to see our fans, like our most blue-collar fans, just take over the streets in Dubai. Just people save up there, but we'll bring Kentucky to them. It would be interesting to see, like, you know, some of the, they've got so much money over there.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Maybe they would just fly our fans there and be like, come on over here. We want to have fans in the building. Come on. Yeah. You laugh. I don't think that's actually crazy for them to do. But it'll be interesting to see. But clearly, they are doing it next to you. year and they say, remember the NIL classic paid each team a million dollars, there's rumors this tournament will pay each team three to four million dollars to their NIAF. Wow. For some basketball teams, folks, that will pay for their entire NILFA.
Starting point is 00:10:34 They could go play in that tournament and then they wouldn't even have to worry about raising that money. So I do think Ryan teams are going to do it. If you tell these teams, I'm going to give you the money for your whole basketball NIL take it, they're going to do it. There's going to be teams doing. Absolutely, they're going to do that. They'll figure out a way to make it happen. That's a lot of money. Go to your budget. You know, I was going to admit, I kind of miss Kentucky not playing in that NIL tournament we just
Starting point is 00:10:58 had, all the other big-name teams seem to be playing in it. So if they had this big thing in Dubai and we're not in it, I think I would feel a little left out also. Well, again, Matt Norlander said the reason we're not paying is we make $4 to $5 million from the BBN United Tip-Off Classic and they got $1 million for going to the players thing. But if Dubai came around and said, we'll give you that $4.5 million, and you'll be playing against good teams. Drew, I could see us doing it.
Starting point is 00:11:22 I could. I don't particularly want them to, but I could see it. And does this open the door where eventually they'll take interest in a specific team and just be like, here's $50 million? There's something ridiculous. You know, they have endless pockets. One of the things you've heard me talk about for years and again, this crosses partisan lines. I don't care what side of politics you were on. We should universally be united and we're giving way too much of our information away to private companies way too easily.
Starting point is 00:11:49 And the government's doing it and it's going to be a disaster one day. The second thing we're going to regret is normalizing some of these countries with our sporting events. We're going to regret that one day. I mean, we are. Saudi Arabia is the big one. But Qatar is a little different because they've been our ally for many, many years. but still, I don't think this is positive. And when we start selling shares, which is going to happen at some point,
Starting point is 00:12:17 we're going to wish we didn't do that down the road. That's just my prediction. They could latch hard to a school and just make them the wealthiest school in America. It's going to be like that for all sports. I mean, there's going to come a time that they're going to be like, we're going to get something out of giving this money. And if we're so attached to these, I think it's a bad decision. Who's up first?
Starting point is 00:12:36 CJ is up. CJ, what's up, CJ? Hey, what's going on, guys? First off, just want to say, Drew, congrats on being a girl dad. That's really cool news. Secondly, I have a hypothetical question for you guys. If I had to give you all the option of either us missing the tournament and basketball this year and going 11 and 1, 10, and 2 in football next year and making the SEC championship and the college football playoff, what would you all take?
Starting point is 00:13:06 I'm already signing up. I mean, I'll take one year of missing. the tournament to have the greatest football season in the history of our school, of course. I mean, can you imagine what this place would be, what Kentucky would be like if we went 11 and 1? I mean, can you imagine what it would be like? Think about our schedule next year. And again, this isn't going to happen, so I'm not like predicting it.
Starting point is 00:13:28 But just think about our schedule. We play Alabama at home. We play LSU at home. We play Florida at home. Is that right? Yeah, they come back to back to yours. Florida comes back to back years. Let's say you win those games.
Starting point is 00:13:42 We're on the road at Texas A&M, on the road at Oklahoma. If you're telling me I only lose one of those games, which means between Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M, I win three of those games. Heck, yeah, I'm signing up for that, Drew, and you know what? We won't play in the NCAA one year. And it helps being Stein's first year. That could just turn into, you know, momentum.
Starting point is 00:14:06 That could really change the course of football. And honestly, when I look at the basketball team right now, I'm like, heck, they might be able to do that on their own without me playing this game. I mean, I don't mean to be that down, but we have some important games ahead. Let me say, if Jalen Lowe does not play, I mean, the SEC's not very good this year. So maybe, but like I start to worry about a lot if he doesn't play. That's just my view. But go ahead, sir. The other thing I had is would you guys be willing to make a same game parlay for tonight's game?
Starting point is 00:14:38 like go around the four of you guys and pick player props and game props yeah i don't know about that i appreciate the call i don't want to be i like picking when i think the fans are going to win and i don't i don't know if i'm i'm not very confident about tonight i mean i i hope it goes well but i don't know are you not at all well we can pick the unders i do think we can beat indiana next weekend at home but I thought we'd beat North Carolina at home. Yes. So, but I'm, Drew, I'm not confident about tonight. I'm talking myself into it, but I'll admit it's excitement.
Starting point is 00:15:14 I've had tickets since they announced this. I'm using vacation time. It's a rare chance for me to be in the crowd as a fan. If I were just my usual at my computer and this were another night at work, it'd be the other way. But since I've been looking forward to this for months, I'm on the money line and I'm trying to talk myself into it. Well, I'm a big believer when Kentucky plays in Nashville, it's the best crowd Kentucky gets in any games. when you get people in Nashville for games, I think it's Kentucky's loudest, it's most rambunctious crowd, it's a Friday night, should be a good atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:15:42 I don't know what the ticket situation is, but I'm sure it'll be a good atmosphere. So if Kentucky can't step up Shannon and play well tonight, even if they lose, that will make me, if we lose like we lost to Michigan State, I'm going to be pretty down. Time to hit the panic button because at some point you've got to beat somebody good. You know, they've beaten up on these teams that are ranked 300th or worse. got to beat somebody in the top 25. Tonight's another opportunity, but I'm like you. I'm not that confident about this game today.
Starting point is 00:16:09 I'm just going to remind people four of our next six games are against Gonzaga, Indiana, St. John's in Alabama. That's four of our next six. Who's next? Doug is up next. Doug, go ahead, Doug. Hey, guys, it's Doug out in Spokane. This place is buzzing about tonight's game, of course.
Starting point is 00:16:32 And I'm with you guys. I'm pretty worried, but I also want to say, congrats to Drew. And I am coming to Cincinnati tomorrow and going to be in the area. Are you guys going to be doing a show at the bar next week by any chance? We will next week, Wednesday and Thursday. We will be at the bar next week. Because I've been wanting to come check it out.
Starting point is 00:16:54 I just haven't been home in a while. So I'm going to try to come by and see you guys one of those days. Wednesday and Thursday. Hope to see you. Appreciate the call. And we also have the pregame show on. Tuesday before the basketball game. Cornbread hemp is helping you celebrate the holiday

That includes not just the gummies, etc. There are also, there's candles now. You would love that. You have so many candles. You could add that to your collection.
Starting point is 00:17:26 I wonder what the cornbread hemp candle smells. Hemp? It smells like you're going to get arrested. Cornbreadhimp.com. No, I bet they're nice. Cornbread hemp.com. Check it out. The code is cheer and also learn more about their abilities,
Starting point is 00:17:40 their attempts to try to help or stop the hemp prohibition in Congress. Go to cornbread hemp.com code cheer. We'll take a break. Be right back here at Ashley Furniture. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending.

And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing
Starting point is 00:18:52 over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join
Starting point is 00:19:31 Me, Keir Gaines is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
Starting point is 00:19:54 And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:20:09 I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
Starting point is 00:20:26 we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Agency, the ability to know that we're the experts in our own body.
Starting point is 00:20:53 On the podcast, cultivating her space, Dr. Dom and Terry Lomax create a space where black women can show up fully and be heard. I wholeheartedly think, you know, you hit 30. You shouldn't have to share one with anybody. Mm-hmm. From navigating friendships and healing to setting boundaries and prioritizing your mental health. These are real, honest conversations. We don't always get to have out loud.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Totally unreasonable with different parts of life, right? Like, oh, have all three meals and make sure you're mindful during all of them? Absolutely not. During one meal, I'm standing. I'm standing and handing my children food. because healing, empowerment, and resilience aren't just ideas, their practices. And this Mental Health Awareness Month, there's no better time to pour back into yourself. Listen to cultivating her space on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:21:49 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live. 859-2802287. A guy just told us that you said it's on a commercial. commercial here, is that correct? That there's a commercial that runs here in Glasgow about Brandon Stockton, that he's being remission for cancer. So prayers to Brandon Stockton. I don't know whether that's a, is that correct?
Starting point is 00:22:17 Yeah, so did not know that, but we wish Brandon the best. Glasgow's favorite son there for a long time until Kent Bull and Aaron Fleener came along, but he was a superstar when he was a basketball player over down here. Is there any player in history more famous for a chess ball than Brandon Stockton? I mean, my brain goes straight to that chest bump with tubby. Yeah, I think it's... Play big in that game before he earned that chest bump. No, no, listen, he played really well in that game.
Starting point is 00:22:41 He's that game at Tennessee. That's a win that Brandon Stockton was a huge part of. Also, in his prime in high school, that dude was electric to watch play basketball. I mean, like he could get... For a little dude to move like he did, he was absolutely electric. Well, the story goes, Glasgow played in that Lexington Catholic holiday tournament. Tubby just... I was at that time.
Starting point is 00:23:03 He was unbelievable. And put on such a show, Tubby offering him a scholarship based on how he did in that tournament. You talk about there are these like little legends of high school basketball in Kentucky. Brandon Stockton at the Lexington Catholic Christmas tournament might have been one of the best players I've ever seen. I just kept, I went to one game and I just kept going because I was like, this dude is, this dude's crazy. Like, because he was just little guy, just everywhere. Could not miss. I mean, he was unbelievable in that tournament.
Starting point is 00:23:33 I've forgotten about that. Who's up next? Roy is up next. Roy, go ahead, Roy. Yeah, I'm in Middletboro, Kentucky. How you doing, Matt? Yeah, let me apologize, Roy. We beat Mayfield in the state finals, not Murray.
Starting point is 00:23:47 I got that wrong, but go ahead. I don't know nothing about that, but I was going to make a couple of comments, then I'll get off here. I'm glad that we got Will Stein as a football coach and the fact that he's going to feed the studs. comment about the basketball team. Mark Pope said before the season he had a Pereira
Starting point is 00:24:09 and he couldn't wait to try it out. I think he's got a team model forward. So I don't know his offense doesn't seem to work for this team. I think he should go to the dribble drive and I'll get off. Okay, thank you, sir. Well, that's a good call. I agree with you. He did say, Ryan, I have a Ferrari
Starting point is 00:24:27 and I can't wait to try it out. I think the keys are still in Jalen Lowe's pocket. I think he's the driver for the Ferrari, and we haven't got a chance to see much of it yet. So let's be positive for a second, Drew. Let's be optimistic. What are the chances you insert Jalen Lowe at True Point Guard in? You move Aberdeen to the two. O.A. and Chandler and Aberdeen kind of switch out.
Starting point is 00:24:49 They get, you know, from the two and three. You get a four that's a little. Diabate becomes more available because you've got a lot of guys who can shoot. Yelovich has gotten a lot better. You got Moreno. What are the chances that when you add that piece, it all starts to click? I think there's a good chance. I still worry about what's going on internally.
Starting point is 00:25:12 I don't know what it is, but there is something there. And it's not just what we see with our eyes. Are these guys like each other? I mean, Pope's vague comments are a problem. Being positive, though. Being positive. They aren't extraordinary. He didn't get the positive.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Well, I'm setting up how special and extraordinary and beautiful this can be. I do. Lowell will try. change the offense. Shooting will be an issue, but him just being able to get where he wants with the ball will help get them moving in that read and react that Pope likes. And maybe he'll bring that leadership that they're missing because part of it right now is they just don't have a teammate that'll get up in somebody's face and fire them up. They don't even really communicate when they're out there. And you think of all the great teams, it's usually a point guard. Maybe
Starting point is 00:25:50 it is low why he's on the bench. Even while he's out, someone has to step up and be a vocal leader and look like they care about this group. Yeah. I mean, I wish I wasn't positive. That was not positive at all. So when he gets back, though, that's what I'm saying. He can bring that, that leadership, even though no one's doing it right now and they should. He can be that piece. I'll be a little bit more positive. I do think, especially Aberdeen, will be a lot better at an off guard than he is.
Starting point is 00:26:17 He shot too much against North Carolina. But I don't necessarily blame him because I don't know what else we were going to do. I think if he's in that secondary role, I think we're going to have to live when Jay and Lowe comes back with. He's going to take bad shots, right? He's going to do like he gets in Louisville and step on the in-lined or whatever. But he's also going to, I mean, we were 20 points down, and he got us to four. And if we were 20 points down now, we'd all quit watching. Like, it's over.
Starting point is 00:26:47 But with him, it gives you a different opportunity. He's going to make mistakes. I mean, we saw that in a couple games he played, but he just gives you a different thing. People will say this as an excuse, I would say to you back, take three-star. starters off any team in college basketball, and they're going to struggle. I don't care who it is. And that's what Mark Pope's dealing with. If he wants to take bad shots, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:27:08 We just went 10 minutes without scoring. Kick it in if you want. And I also think when, and I don't think he's playing tonight, but who knows? Pope left it open than he might. When Jalen Lowe comes back, I do hope people like give him a break because now we've seen what we're like without him. Because I thought people were really harsh on him after he made those errors at the end of the Louisville game, like we need it.
Starting point is 00:27:32 We're not going to be very good without him. Who's next? Aidan is up next. Aiden, go ahead, Aiden. Hi, Matt. I just got done with my first travel hockey tournament game. How'd we do? I lost you there.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Hang on, Aden. I lost you. You were down and then came back? Yep. And then we were winning eight to five. and one. I think that's how Kentucky will be coming back from losing. We need to work on your goalies.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Like, they're giving up a lot of goals. You're going to have to work with them, Aiden. Thanks. Hopefully we can attend a game together with the Hurricanes. So I'm a Blue Jackets fan. I usually come to the Blue Jackets Arena every year to watch the hurricane. So if you're there for that game, you come say hello, okay? Okay.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Appreciate it. There's Aiden. I like Aiden. Who's up next? Got Jimmy up next. Jimmy, go ahead, Jimmy. Hey, what's up, Matt and fellas? We're on the road heading down to Trent and Ola area for the day for the weekend.
Starting point is 00:28:47 But I had a comment. Yeah, had a comment about you're all, you guys talking about Dubai games. And maybe, you know, how the money can leak over. Would the University of Kentucky be a team they would be interested in Of course. Because of the horses in the Lexington area? I hadn't even thought about that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:07 I mean, I hadn't even, that's a great point. I had not thought about that connection. I would think if you're Dubai and you were wanting to try to have any sort of tournament with international appeal, the three programs you'd want to have is Kentucky, Caroline, and Duke. You get outside of America to the extent that people know college basketball, They know Kentucky, Duke, and Carolina. So if you're them, you would want to have them.
Starting point is 00:29:32 I agree with that. Yeah. But that's all I've got, guys, go cut. Appreciate it. That's a really good point about the horses. We'll take a break and be right back at Ashley Furniture. This is KSR. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:29:42 It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live in Glasgow. Great crowd at Ashley Furniture. No interest until December 2030. Glasgow and Somerset have Ashley Furnitures. Go see them. way, our pregame show starts tonight at 4.30 postgame after the game. UK volleyball and the UK basketball game going on at the same time. We'll have them both at KS. Bar.
Starting point is 00:30:09 And then for the rest of KS. Bar today, we'll have the high school. If you want to watch the high school finals, they'll be on. We will not be showing it at seven because we have to show the volleyball game. But all the other high school football games this weekend, if you don't want to sit out in the cold, you can watch them at KS Bar and not have to, to freeze. Here's an interesting fact. In that Lexington Catholic Tournament, we were talking about,
Starting point is 00:30:32 uh, Bourbon County beat Glasgow in the, uh, semifinals, 71,67. Of the 67 Glasgow points, 51 were scored by Brandon Stark. Unbelievable. 51 of the 67 points. Wow. I actually think I watched that game, uh, when they, when they lost to them. That's a pretty amazing thing.
Starting point is 00:30:53 I guess Bourbon County may have had Preston LeMaster on. that team. Actually, you're probably right about that. You are probably right. All right. Speaking of high school, 4A, who's playing? That's the late game tonight. Franklin County, who's had a great run the last 10 years, but they always run into a team called Boyle County. It's a battle. I mean, these are, there'll be a lot. This is probably be the most highly attended game, don't you think, of the thing? Franklin County and Boyle County, both bring big fans. How are you got? You know, Boyle County also has a player that lives 30 minutes away from Lexington. Yeah, I think a coach might have missed, mentioned him.
Starting point is 00:31:26 last night. By the way, state of Kentucky has four top 200 in the country football players next year. Probably one of the better high school football classes in Kentucky in a long time. Four of them in the top 200, this kid from Boyle County, Seneca drivers, one of them. But just bringing in a coach who's prioritizing Kentucky recruiting, it's a big year coming up next year. But go ahead. I'm going Boyle County. I got to go with my namesake, Franklin County, especially after how Boyle got there. See, Larry Vaught, right?
Starting point is 00:31:56 He's the big celebrity out of Boyle County. So I'm going to go with the fighting Larry Voughts in Boyle County. Yeah, when you look at Larry Vought's hair, that says things are happening in Boyle County. That correlates. So I'm going to take Boyle County. What you got? 5A. 5A is Owensboro, who has the kid who's probably going to be Mr. Football, Evan Hampton,
Starting point is 00:32:12 who is committed to Vanderbilt to play football. Oh. They play. I don't care who they play. They play Pulaski County who's coming to the restaurant tomorrow. I'm taking Pulaski County. If the Maroons want to have a good burger. and wings and tater kegs, then they're good enough for me.
Starting point is 00:32:27 What do you got? I'm going one of my hometown Owensboro. Why do you keep going against these teams that are coming and spending money with us? I'm going for Pulaski County. And I also have to remind you every time. You just said they were coming. What do you got? I got to go with the Maroons.
Starting point is 00:32:44 I'm big on a maroon mascot, so I will take Pulaski County. And then finally, what is it, two Louisville? Who's in the success? South Warren plays a team called Trinity. Well, I mean, normally I would take South Warren because Trinity Mafia, but we just hired a Trinity guy. And so for at least one year, I've got to take Trinity. I will take Trinity only because of Will Stein.
Starting point is 00:33:07 And honestly, Debbie Stein and her sister takes, so I'll take Trinity. You've got to go with Trinity. They're just a machine out there. They keep just pumping out these great football talent. But, you know, now the Trinity Mafia, we make get some of those players. We haven't had a Trinity kids. It seems like in forever. They got a big class.
Starting point is 00:33:23 I'm going with Trinity. I need Trinity fans to be in a good mood, so you will donate to Kentucky. I know some people have said we have enough. We can always use more. So Trinity, please move your dollars to Lexington if you would like. That's true. Have a great game. Mitch does not want your money.
Starting point is 00:33:36 He says we have plenty. That's right. I think that was a bad decision too. What do you have? We'll make it a clean sweep. It's Trinity. All right. Who's up next?
Starting point is 00:33:43 Seth is up next. Seth. Go ahead, Seth. Hey, guys. How are going? I'm doing great. All right. I have eight brothers and sisters.
Starting point is 00:33:56 and daddy said that the girls were easier to raise than the boys. Oh, really? Okay, so advice for Drew. Thank you. I'm all in. I'm all in on Kentucky tonight. And, yeah, we've got to have this one. I'm all in.
Starting point is 00:34:14 And I got one thing for your mom. Okay. I have eight brothers and sisters. I have eight brothers and sisters. And Daddy took the boys to the Methodist Church. and Mama took the girls to the Baptist church. Okay, thank you. I'm out of here.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Why was that, by the way? Well, they just didn't see either. I guess. I mean, I'm just the children. But what? But they decided half the kids would be Methodists and half would be Baptist. Yeah, my mother took five girls to the Baptist
Starting point is 00:34:53 and daddy took us three boys to the Methodist. Interesting. I wonder who. turned out better. Yeah, that's a good question. Which one worked better? Which one worked better? Well, I can't tell you bad.
Starting point is 00:35:09 I mean, you're asking. You're just my stuff I don't know. All right, boy. I like you, Roy. Okay, guys. I appreciate the call. There's more to explore with Roy. Yes, there is.
Starting point is 00:35:22 There's a lot going on. I like Roy. You've got to wonder what the reasoning behind was, taking them to the girls of the Baptist Church and the boys of the Methodist Church. It had to be something. Well, they said that the parents didn't agree. They didn't see I die, but they split them by children. Yeah, so why didn't they send the girls of the Methodist and the boys of the Baptist? Why'd they pick that way? There's got to be something. I don't know. I don't know. Don't get so aggressive. It's going to keep me up tonight. Don't overthink it.
Starting point is 00:35:43 Yeah, I think they were just like the man gets the men and the women get that's just by guess. I don't know that, but you don't need to be so angry about it. Who's up next? Rich is up next. Rich, go ahead, Rich. Hey, good morning, fellas. Happy Friday to you all. Good morning. Hey, so I don't know if this has been talked about a bit, but I had been reading into this a little bit. The contract for some of these players, I'm just kind of wondering if it's been really talked about or thought about that.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Maybe we should look into having these individuals not have, you know, they're playing. It's kind of like the Shaden Sharp situation I'm looking at again. and where you got players that should be possibly pay for play, maybe put something up front and then the back end of it, maybe they got to be playing because they're getting all these resources and opportunity. Yeah, but I mean, okay, so I say this. They're not getting in.
Starting point is 00:36:41 This gets suggested every couple weeks, and I'm going to give you the same answer. I give everybody else. I got a question for you. You got a job, all right? And then that job, there are two different jobs you're choosing from. And in one of them, they say, I'll give you $100,000. and then the other job, they say I'll give you 50,
Starting point is 00:36:58 and then if you play well or you play all the games, you'll get the other 50. Which one you take it? Okay. Which one you take it? I'm taking that 100. You're going to take the one that only pays you if you play well. You're not going to take the one that guarantees you the money.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Well, that's what I'm looking at why we're putting these contracts in, and we're not looking at trying to incentive. Because there are other people competing for these players. You got to remember, like, this is not the NBA where all the teams go through collective bargaining and they agree to give one kind of contract. So the Knicks have to give the same kind of contract that the Lakers do. They don't get to do, they might give more money, but they don't get to do different kind of contracts. The college sports system is a free market.
Starting point is 00:37:48 You can give whatever kind of contract you want. So let's say Kentucky takes the position. we're only going to give you money if you succeed, or we're only going to give you money if you don't quit, or we're only going to give you money if you don't get hurt. Yeah, but these other teams are going to give them guaranteed money. So why would they not just go there and get their guaranteed money? I just feel like because we're so high profile and there's a lot more benefit.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Well, guess what? That's wrong. Well, that's wrong. And here I'll give you an example as to why. Let's look at the college football recruiting class that just signed Wednesday. It was a great story by Bud Foster, who wrote a pretty amazing thing that I couldn't believe. College football has for years the top players have loaded up with a handful of schools. Not this year.
Starting point is 00:38:38 Top ten players in college football this year. Guess what? How many of them signed with teams playing in the playoff this year? One. Only one of the ten teams. One of the top ten players agreed to sign to the top teams. Guess where the top two quarterbacks in America signed? Vanderbilt and Houston.
Starting point is 00:39:01 That's where the top two quarterbacks in America, Vanderbilt and Houston. Why? Because Vanderbilt and Houston offered them more money than Georgia and Alabama. And I think the Georgia and Alabama's of the world, hang on, sir, the Georgia and Alabama's of the world think that they can just give because it's Georgia and Alabama. And guess what? It ain't working like that anymore.
Starting point is 00:39:23 The difference in the college football rankings from number one and number 35 is the same difference in points as number one and number eight seven years ago. It's all bunched up. So I understand that. That's college football. I think I had you on the wrong track. College basketball is exactly the same way. The number one player, AJ DeBonsa, went to BYU. You think he went to BYU because he loved being at BYU?
Starting point is 00:39:56 He went there because they offered him the most money. We lost players last year in the portal to UCLA and Michigan because they offered more money. I'm speaking on the injury this time. This injury for Jaden, for instance, is a great example of someone who is utilizing benefits of the university for branding, for all of his rehab. He gets that for free pro scouting, all of that. but here we have an individual who could be in the same situation to Shaden and never play a lift on the floor. So what would you?
Starting point is 00:40:30 Well, we might. That's the risk you take. But if we didn't, here's a little secret. If we didn't give Jaden Quaidons that money, somebody else would have. That's correct. But he is so impactful when you have one player compared to football where you might be able to work around several more players and figure it out. Well, listen, I'm going to stop you.
Starting point is 00:40:53 I appreciate the call. Maybe you don't think we should have recruited Jaden Quayton's. I do because I do think he's going to play. If he ends up not playing, that'll be a different conversation. But Drew, if Kentucky and Iowa State are offering the same amount of money, I think Kentucky will get the kid nine out of ten times. But if Kentucky's offering 500,000 and Iowa State's offering a million, that kid's going to Ames.
Starting point is 00:41:23 Yeah. Like that's just how it is, and we just have to get used to that. Just being Kentucky is not enough. I know, and fans don't like to hear it, but I know we think of Kentucky as the gold standard. A lot of high school kids don't. I mean, it's been over 10 years since we've been to a Final Four. I hate saying this out loud,
Starting point is 00:41:39 but in two years we'll have one title in 30 seasons. I know we all think highly of Kentucky, but sometimes these 17-year-olds aren't thinking the same way we are, and dollars are going to win out most of the time. Vandy's undefeated. basketball right now. That's right. Yeah. You know, I mean, things are, they're just, it's different now, and you can sit there and wish it was different, but it is what it is, and we have to compete. If pain, stiffness, or a numbing sensation, prevent you from enjoying watching your favorite team,
Starting point is 00:42:04 go to court physical therapy. They can help. They've been Kentucky's go-to physical therapy group for athletes, fans, and average joes. You can, until the end of the year, if you've already met your deductibles, it could be free. Don't be in pain. Go to court.com. That's k-o-r-r-t.com. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
Starting point is 00:44:44 because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Jewel. as Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.

Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Ashley Furniture. It's time for our KSR Parlay. We hit three again. We're always getting one short,
Starting point is 00:46:35 but now we're going to get it right here. This is, you go to KS, go to Draft Kings, put your promo code KSR bet five. If you win, you get $200. Shannon will let you go first. We're going to pick the major conference championship games. BYU Texas Tech, what's spread? 12.5 for Texas Tech. 12 and a half, Texas Tech. Who you got? I'm going to take BYU and the 12 and a half.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Yeah, you're getting 12 and a half? I think that's a good one. I like it. Drew, Indiana, Ohio State. Ooh, it's a four-point spread. I'll say Indiana covers the four. I'll believe in the Hoosiers to at least keep it around a field goal game. See, I would have taken Ohio State, but I trust you.
Starting point is 00:47:14 You're going to go Indiana? I've missed one the entire college football season. I've just been carrying this parley. All right. One. One in the whole season. Duke and Virginia is the one I'll pick. Which one you got?
Starting point is 00:47:26 What's a spread there? Duke and Virginia is a four. Virginia is a four point four. I'll take Virginia to cover. They're going to crush them. So I will take Virginia. So we got Virginia. We got Indiana.
Starting point is 00:47:35 We got BYU. I am not letting Ryan pick. We've learned. So Mee Ma is here in the crowd. She's the one that thanked Bob Huggins, if you remember a few years ago on video. So Georgia and Alabama, Alabama and the SEC Championship.
Starting point is 00:47:50 What's a spread, Shannon? Two and a half for Georgia. Who you got? Georgia, Alabama. Georgia. All right, there you go. That's who I would have picked as well. So Georgia, Indiana, BYU, and Virginia, I think we're cashing tickets there.
Starting point is 00:48:05 And Ryan, we'll let you bet it even though you didn't get to contribute. I kind of secretly hope BYU wins because that'll throw the whole college football playoffs in a whack. Well, the one that'll throw in a whack is if Duke beats Virginia. Yeah, that one too. If Duke beats Virginia, then no one in the ACC will make the – because Duke, they're not high enough in the standing. So if Duke beats Virginia, Duke will not make the playoff, and the ACC will get no teams in the playoff. Which, by the way, means a huge amount of money not going to the ACC. So, like, in all seriousness, for those of us that don't want to see Duke and Carolina and Louisville be good at basketball, Duke winning tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:48:44 Duke winning tomorrow will cost the ACC. I think it's something like $6 million of school. Say no more. Anything that punishes Duke in North Carolina? He actually won a route for Duke football tomorrow because Duke basketball, oddly by winning may hurt Duke football. Excuse me, Duke football winning may hurt Duke basketball, which I think is kind of odd.
Starting point is 00:49:08 And I oddly feel a connection to Duke football because we did our show in their press box and they're really nice. Now, I'm not Pro Duke. Don't get this twisted. but I do, they were not kind to us when we went through and let us do the show there. Yeah, if they win, and then I think it's got to be Tulane and James Madison win, then Tulane and James Madison will both make the playoff. Wow.
Starting point is 00:49:28 And Duke will not, which is kind of insane. Who's up next? Terry is up next. Terry, go ahead, Terry. Yeah, man, I missed the first hour. So did something come out that I don't know about? because yesterday, Pope acted like Lowe might give it a shot tonight. And when I heard you earlier, you said, if he doesn't play at all, we're going to be in trouble for the whole year.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Yeah, no, I mean, I do think Lowe is going to play this year. I'm just saying if for whatever, I don't know if he's going to play tonight. I think he probably won't. But I do think he'll play this year. There's nothing that if Pope said he was going to try, I assume he will. I was just saying theoretically if he didn't play. And then my other thing, do you guys have, and you might mention this in the first hour, and I apologize if you did, do any of you have any inclination who Will Stein may be planning
Starting point is 00:50:23 for the defensive coordinator and I'll hang up and listen to that. Drew, I was not actively on the message board world yesterday. Is the rumor still, it's not Charlie Strong. It's, is it Evan? What's the guy's name? What's the name of the guy? I don't have it. I know Charlie Strong was rumored.
Starting point is 00:50:39 I don't think that would be it. There's someone else. There is a name out there. Maybe somebody will grab. There is a name floating around, but I'm not, I can't remember off the top of my head who it is. Who's next? Jay Rock is next. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:50:53 Jay Rock. Go ahead. Hey, what's up, y'all? A few things. Shout out, Memo. Y'all got quit taking. Are you avail people? And what is the three things you want to see in the game tonight?
Starting point is 00:51:05 but they're this daggone smoke alarm it's going on. I appreciate the call. Well done. One more real quick. Who's next? Chip is next.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Chip, I got about a minute. Go ahead. Hey, guys. How are you all doing? Drew, congratulations on the girl. I'm a girl dad of two. Thank you. Great things, beautiful things.
Starting point is 00:51:34 Matt, welcome back. I just wanted to say that from the call. earlier, like we just need to get used to the days of having kids to play for the name on the front of the jersey, that's long gone. I mean, what like Matt was saying, they're going to follow the money. They're going to follow, you know, what's best for them. I think what we can do is Kentucky fans is just loving the best we can, tear for them the best we can, and, you know, and trying to make them feel as welcome as possible and as great as possible. I mean, you know, I love Kentucky basketball more just about as much as everybody else does,
Starting point is 00:52:11 but I think we just need to realize that. It's a different world. I think that stuff matters. I think that stuff matters, but I appreciate the call. It matters like tie goes to a place that loves their players and all that, but ultimately you've got to be competitive. Thank you all very much here in Glasgow at Ashley Furniture. We very much appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:52:33 Awesome crowd. Good morning. We'll be back at 4.30. today for the pregame show for UK Gonzaga. We'll see you later. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
