Here with Drew and Shannon.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Pre-game show is at 4. 30 today from KS. Bar, if you're going to the game, head on out that way. I will have tickets to give away during that show, including Drew, some good ones from a couple of our friends that. I think there'll be a lot of, I think tickets will be widely available tonight. Would you agree with that? I expect that. I don't know if a BBN is intentionally sending a message tonight, but I know people
Starting point is 00:03:51 aren't the most enthusiastic about the team right now. I could see, well, I know without even asking, Shannon, I've been given a bunch of tickets to give away. I would guess we'll get more. So I just think there'll be tickets available. I'm sitting here looking at NC Central our opponent. Here's who they've played this year. NC State, Virginia, Appalachian State. Now, here's some schools.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Have you ever heard of Bluefield State? I was just looking this school up. Where is Bluefield State? It is in Bluefield, West Virginia. Okay. I didn't know there was a Bluefield, West Virginia. Where is that? obviously it's in West Virginia.
Starting point is 00:04:32 I do not know. I have no idea. Do you ever heard of Bluefield State? I mean, only when I looked up NC's central schedule, but it did do much thorough research beyond that. Gage Ladamore went 12 for 17 against Bluefield State. Then North Carolina, and then Tocoa Falls, T-O-C-O-A- Falls. Where's that? Georgia.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Somewhere in Georgia. Are you guessing or you know? Is Ticoa Falls, Georgia? He's got it. Look at Drew. I did my research. Tocoa Falls. Never heard of that school.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Then Dayton, USC upstate, that's South Carolina, the aforementioned Carolina U, James Madison, and NC A&T. So we shouldn't have any problems tonight. I'm going to assume they played good teams, though. They played NC State, Virginia, North Carolina, but I think they got beat by a lot in all those. So let's talk about a couple other things. Drew, UK volleyball makes it to the sweet 16. They get a little bit of a break.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Cal Poly upset, I believe it was USC to make it to the Sweet 16. So they were actually a 12 seed. So we are in the Sweet 16 playing a 12 seed. I actually watched some of this match where they pulled the upset off and upset off and won. They are short, which is not something you see in a volleyball team a lot. They're short, but they're scrappy. the Cal Poly Group. The USC had like two women who could jump to the moon. And if you watched it, you would have thought there's no way this other team is going to win.
Starting point is 00:06:08 But then they did. Kentucky plays them in the Sweet 16, 3.30 on Thursday. Kind of a weird time. We're going to show the game at the bar. It's on national television. But Kentucky, with a really good chance, if they can get it to get to the elite eight. Yeah, tickets for that just went on sale at like 10 a.m. this morning for anyone trying to go. I know Craig Skinner tried to build them up like a great opponent, and I'm sure they are to get to this point, but that upset sure did help Kentucky's path and getting there. And we're two wins away from moving on to Final Four weekend,
Starting point is 00:06:39 just got to handle business at home, and he's next two. I'm not saying they can't win, Shannon, but I actually did research for this game. I watched that game. Yeah. And they are a lot shorter than we are. But they are a scrappy group. What do you call it?
Starting point is 00:06:54 You get the digs? The diggers, the setters, and the spikers. They are really good. good at digging, like, because the USC girls could literally jump. I don't know if people realize they would touch the ceiling. Oh, really? Wow. Yeah, I don't know if I can watch that.
Starting point is 00:07:09 And, but still, they would dig it. They would just keep going. And they were also, this is my, did Craig Skinner say this, Drew? There, I think the thing Cal Poly's the best at is blocking. They block, like, they would get, they scored so many points just blocking it directly into the ground. That's my, that's, you know, I'm good at this volleyball. I don't need Craig Skinner's scouting report. We heard you talk about the earlier matchups in the tournament.
Starting point is 00:07:33 They were good at blocking, and that's who we played. Although their color scheme is like green. You know when you mix all the colors together and it turns into like a dark green? You know what I'm talking about? That's their color scheme. I don't like it. But they play Thursday at 3.30. And really good chance, Drew, for the UK volleyball team to make the final four.
Starting point is 00:07:54 And is Craig Skinner going to get even higher up? He's done the fifth third building. Well, they tweeted an airplane emoji this morning. Do you think they'll jump out of a plan? Do you think they'll sell that game out Thursday? I mean, it's at a weird time having to play at 3.30. The time obviously hurts them, but I still think they can. The few that I've been to this year, I mean, that place was insane just for like a regular season game.
Starting point is 00:08:16 And I don't think that excitement will go away. People will find a way to get there for postseason match, even if it is earlier in the afternoon. The good thing is, everyone says the good thing is the two teams they've lost to in the regular season or on the other side of the bracket, Pittsburgh and Nebraska. Yes, they are, which you could get all the, and then I think the second game is what,
Starting point is 00:08:35 Arizona State Creighton? That's the other, that's the other games? So I've not seen them play. I can't do the research on Arizona State and Creight. Virginia Tech, you know, they hired James Franklin.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Their coach before that, Shannon, was a guy named Brent Fry. Probably don't know that guy, but his name was Brent Fry. They fired Brent Frye earlier this year. Just fired. you're out of here James Franklin is now bringing him back
Starting point is 00:09:02 as the defensive coordinator the AD's got to be loving this right after he was the head coach earlier in the year this would be like Will Stein hiring Mark Stubes as his defensive coordinator which seems utterly ludicrous
Starting point is 00:09:20 but it's going to happen at Virginia Tech if you were Brent Fry could you go from sitting in the coach's chair to the next week moving down and being the defensive coordinator. Do you think you could suppress the ego to do that? No, no. I'd be taking my buyout and going on vacation for a couple of years and coming back and finding a head coach job somewhere instead of coming back to where the place just fired me two months ago.
Starting point is 00:09:49 This happened in September. I know. And he is now coming back as a defensive coordinator. Do you think you could do that, Drew? it's tough I just I'm thinking to how awkward that is when he's just walking down the hallways knowing that all the people you're passing just wanted you gone like they can't look you in the eye
Starting point is 00:10:07 yeah they have to kind of look down and you like accidentally walk to the head coach's office like oh that's not me I'm on down here in this smaller one but also you know I don't know his family situation but say he's got a nice house friends and family there he's established why not go take more money from the school you were just with so would you support would you support would you support Mark Stoops as Will Stein's defensive coordinator? He hasn't hired one yet. I don't think this is going to happen, but could you support it? I think so. Yeah, I think I would be okay with that.
Starting point is 00:10:39 Mark Stoops has always been really a defensive-minded head coach, put him on the defensive coordinator position. But he would be making more money than the head coach, just for the record. He literally would be making more money than Will Stuyves. Well, that sounds like a Will Stein problem to me. I don't care who makes what. Drew, would you support Mark Stubbs as a defensive coordinator? If it was just him on the sideline, calling the defense, yes. But so much of this is recruiting now, and I think that was part of the NIL. And I think Stoops, that was part of his problem, is he wasn't liking this new era.
Starting point is 00:11:12 So, no, I wouldn't want old mindset. But maybe he didn't have the pressure to do that. That's true. If he were willing to embrace NIL a little better and be excited about it, maybe. But it'd just be too awkward. I feel like it would be really awkward, but it would be kind of fun. Now, there was a report out of Knoxville yesterday that they have three candidates for their defensive coordinator. One of them was Mark Stubbs.
Starting point is 00:11:35 How would you feel if he ended up in Orange next year? So if Stubbs takes that, does he have to surrender any of that buyout? I think he has to, whatever he was going to. He gets to keep it still. It says no mitigation moving forward. Like their deal is their deal. Unbelievable. That unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Mitch did not even get the mitigation in the deal. there? No, Stoops is getting paid no matter what. So no compete. So in other words, I would double dip. Absolutely. Of course he's going to double dip. He should, right? Of course. I mean, Mitch, how does Mitch not even get the mitigation in the contract? Like, every contract has that if you go work somewhere else and you make that, like, how did he not even get that in there, Drew? I don't know. It's impressive work by the Stoop Sexton. wouldn't you love to play poker with Mitch Barnhart? Yeah, I'd love to be his coach.
Starting point is 00:12:30 He'd be like, here you go. I have a pair of twos, but I'm all in. Just go ahead. I just want you to know, for all fairness, I want to lie to you. I've been asked 19 different times about this contract. It was a fair contract. I told you, I have a pair of twos. You want me to show you?
Starting point is 00:12:52 All right. All right. But what if he's in Knoxville? I can't imagine that. I don't know what's between Stoop's ears, but what he's getting paid and, you know, having been a head coach for as long as he was and what he went through,
Starting point is 00:13:05 I'm putting my feet up for a few years and not going back to work. He's a Kentuckian. He's said that two weeks ago. He's a Kentuckian now. He's not going to go into Tennessee. And I thought he didn't even like Heppel. Now all of a sudden he's going to be honest,
Starting point is 00:13:16 would entertain that. I can't see that happening. Yeah. If anything, he's going to do the Kirby route and just sit there and collect money from Kirby's crew for a few years as an analyst or some made-up position like Sabban. did for many years at Alabama.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Yeah. Well, if he shows up in orange, by the way, would you boo him? Like next year? If you're wearing orange, you're getting booed. I don't care who you are. Yeah, for sure. But I'm definitely double-dipping, though.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Like, I am 100% doing that. Not Tennessee, but somewhere. I don't know if he'll do it this year, but he will take a job soon. He'll do something. I can't imagine he doesn't. Who's up next? Don. Don, go ahead, Don.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Hey, good morning, guys. Good morning. First time caller here. Who are? What's up? Big Don. Good luck on the New Orleans Bowl, Matt. I'm going to need it.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Bluefield, West Virginia is down in the southern tip bluefield and Princeton are right next together. Okay. I'm a 65-year UK basketball fan, and I'm as frustrated as anybody. You're talking about players' cars. I saw Sam Bowie once picking somebody up outside of Lexington Catholic, and he was in some old beater thing, looked very uncomfortable, all bent over and everything, but he was smiling and waved to me. Matt, I've got a personal thing for you.
Starting point is 00:14:49 I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last May 30th, and I'm not telling you what to do, but I'm not. telling you what I did. I reached out to well over 100 people and said, I am emboldened in asking for prayers.
Starting point is 00:15:11 And Matt, it made a huge difference in my recovery and my life. And it's just a thought for Larry. Well, I appreciate it. You all have a wonderful day. Yeah, thank you very
Starting point is 00:15:28 much. Thank you very much. You and your, and your continued battles on that. And we have had, listen, we've had a ton of people reach out and talk about that they've prayed for my dad. And I would ask that, you know, if that's what you do to continue to do that, you know, we have, as a family, we have a tough road ahead. But we, you know, Larry is, Larry's the best human being I've I've ever known. He's the kindest person that I've ever known. And it's not even close. And I just, it's beautiful how many people, what's beautiful to me about this show when it comes to my parents and specifically him in this case is you all don't even know them.
Starting point is 00:16:24 And yet people have treated this. and them as if they're a part of your family. And that really, you don't know how much that means to me. And last week was an extremely difficult week for me with what was happening in our world here, happening at the same time as that was happening. And then trying to figure out how to balance it, but also figure out what I needed to say and didn't say. And it was just, it was a lot.
Starting point is 00:16:57 And just know, even if I don't respond, every prayer, every thought that comes, I appreciate it, and they appreciate it. And Larry, you know, he doesn't even necessarily realize this world. He's not even on the internet. But I know he can feel the way you all reach out. And I just, I do want to thank you. We're going to take a break. We'll be right back. KSR.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Last night, a blown call changed the game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
Starting point is 00:18:36 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. Starting point is 00:20:21 My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth of... about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
Starting point is 00:20:41 The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, inside American soccer with Tom Bogart and Tab Ramos on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome up. Welcome up. Starting point is 00:21:09 Cornbread Hemp is helping you celebrate the holidays with amazing deals on the products you love. Buy two, get one free with the code cheer, like the TV show and like Christmas. Cheer, get a free limited edition cornbread hemp holiday candle. I need to get one of these, Shannon, these candles. Do they smell like candles? Well, I hope they smell like the gummies. Because like the gummies smell good. There are certain things I don't want it to smell like.
Starting point is 00:21:35 I want it to smell like hemp. Yeah, I don't. I don't think that would be good. It's like the berry-flavored gummies, I'd like it. That's good. But they also have the infused seltzers and more. Go to cornbread hemp.com. A great holiday gift.
Starting point is 00:21:49 The promo code is cheer. It's cornbread hemp. This is the good life. 859-280-2287. We talked, Drew, earlier last week, about the changes that the dude Duffy wanted to make to airports. Remember he said he wanted everybody to dress up better? That's right. If we went to the airport, which I think all three of us were no zone, right?
Starting point is 00:22:12 That's right. All right. So now he has four new ideas. They're going to put a billion dollars into airport, and they're going to have these four things. All right. So I'm going to get you guys. Do you think these are good ideas? They're going to be $200 million in each of these things.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Number one, security lines that are for families only to, like, get your kids through. Yes or no? Drew. I'm okay with that because I seem to always get behind the family that isn't prepared to go through the line and I'm just stuck watching them try to hold their toddler a while fold up a suitcase and all that. So yeah, let them have their own area so we can keep this moving. All right, Shannon. I'm good with this too.
Starting point is 00:22:53 You got families with strollers. Does the baby stay in the stroller? Does it come out of the stroller? It's like a million things they're trying to figure out. Meanwhile, I'm just trying to get by with my single suitcase. I am all for this. Yeah, initially, when I first thought, I was like, eh, no, because then you're just giving people with families more advantage. But then I thought about you all.
Starting point is 00:23:11 I hate being stuck behind kids. They're like, eh, put up your snout, and it's just too much. Some families are big families. We're just assuming you're a family of four. What if you're a family of eight? Yes, and you got the kids running around and smacking each other in the face. And then, like, so, yes, I'm actually, I'm good with this. Second, playgrounds in the airports.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Oh, well, I mean. If you don't want kids bothering you, you can hopefully put them all over there on the slides and the monkey bars. See, again, you're thinking like me. At first, I'm like, why am I wasting my money to give the playground? But you know what? If it'll keep them from running around where I'm sitting, then Drew, I'm actually pro playground. I'm pro playground, but I also think we should include adult activities. We just need more entertainment in airports.
Starting point is 00:23:56 Like, where's my golf simulator? If I'm here for three hours, we all need something to do. Okay. You're going to give them a golf simulet. I can't just sit at Chili's 2 for three hours to drink at $18 beers during my layover. I need some activities. All right. What about the next one is more nursing rooms, like places I guess you can go.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Women can nurse their children. Again, the way that they do. We're getting your kids out of the way. I don't see this. A lot of these seem to just be about getting children away. Exactly. Like if they're your kids, it's one thing. But if it's somebody else's kids, you want them out of the way.
Starting point is 00:24:31 It's like when they used to have the kids. smoking rooms. They're like, all right, y'all just go in there. This is kind of the same thing. Just all right, Drew, put all the kids over there, hurt them. And it's just out hitting me. I'm looking this from my perspective as a single, or a kidless guy. I need to actually, I'm probably going to be using these playground for you soon. I'm looking at this the wrong way. You're going to be the guy tripping over the store. Yeah, all these things. I want all of them. Yeah, I need all the advantages. And then last, they are talking about putting workout
Starting point is 00:25:02 bars, pull up bars and places to do push-ups and jogging in place. You could just do that anywhere. So that you can exercise in the airport. Well, not pull-up bars. Yeah, but I could jog in place. Look like a crazy person over here. Why does this guy jogging in place?
Starting point is 00:25:20 Get my steps in, man. I'm for that too, though, you know, especially if you get a long layover. I'm against that. I don't want people being all stinky on the planes, Drew. Like if you're out there out pulling and sweating, I mean, where are you going to shower? You're just going to be stinky getting on the airplane? $200 million.
Starting point is 00:25:39 We can't find like enough money for showers. Well, then you're talking public nudity in these places, Shannon. Are you for the gyms for adults? Absolutely not. Golf simulators, as far as I want to go with physical activity, because you're right, somebody will be trying to show off. Some single guy will be trying to work out next to the woman at the gate and then he's not going to shower and he's going to end up sitting by me and I don't want to
Starting point is 00:26:04 be a part of that yeah I don't know who are people that just want to go to the airport and do pull-ups who are those people is that you got the guy's been sitting at chilies too drinking $18 beers yeah airplanes are gross enough without people being sweaty and everything in them so I'm I'm for three of those four I'm out on the uh doing pull-ups who's next David David go ahead David yeah good morning i've had new friends call me and asked me about a picture floating around about jack filger and drew deaneer about kentucky fans booing and i need to set the record straight that picture that was taken well i'm in the picture that two picture it was taken was the north
Starting point is 00:26:48 carolina game and we were upset with pretty boy joe lindsay after he made a call against otega away after he stole the ball at half court and would have gone down for a uncontested too. You're saying there's a picture of you, I'm not, I wasn't fault, there's a picture, well, we don't know who you are, so you got to remember that. There's a picture of you, there's a picture of you booing that's being used as an example of fans booing, but you're saying you weren't booing the players, you were booing a referee the game before.
Starting point is 00:27:19 We were, it was in North Carolina game, we were booing pretty boy Joe Lindsay after you made a call against O'Way at half-court. Wait, well, that's what I call him. I'm sorry. Okay. We would have got two points out of that, but we didn't. And I just want to set the record straight up. I wouldn't boo Kentucky fans and I wouldn't boo the Kentucky team.
Starting point is 00:27:41 You take the good with the bad and you go forward. Okay. All right. Fair enough. Appreciate the call. I'm not sure the picture he's talking about, but that's a fair point. Sometimes, you know, when you use a picture with the story, you might say, a picture of fans booing and Drew it could be a different scenario than the,
Starting point is 00:27:59 the game where they were booing the players. Yeah, I don't know the exact one he's talking about because there were several from Gonzaga and then I guess he's the one from the game before, but also don't know his name, but I'm glad we cleared that up. And then moving forward, I didn't wonder, Shannon, about the videos of people booing during
Starting point is 00:28:15 the Gonzaga game. There was a lot of people booing, but it would be like individuals that were zeroed in on. And I did wonder, like, they're going to get a lot of people going, hey, man, were you booing at the game? I did wonder what that was going to look like for those folks. Yeah, yeah, it was. Of course I was. If you weren't in that arena, you weren't booing them, then...
Starting point is 00:28:32 Do you feel sorry for the people that become memes, the fans, like, when they're sad about something during a game or a girl crying or a guy? Like, do you ever feel sorry for those people? Like, they don't know that's going to be them. I don't feel bad for them. I think it's got a funny. Look at 10 seconds of fame. You never feel bad. But, like, think about the ones that have become famous, like, the girl that was playing the flute during the tournament and crying.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Yeah, that's my favorite. Do you ever feel sorry for those people? people. You're crying over a game. I mean, really, let's get to the root of it. You're crying because your team lost and you're playing a flute and you're crying. No, I don't feel bad for that person. Play your flute.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Just play your flute and shut up. Is that what you're saying? All right. Play me a song. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:29:32 Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2-8027. Text machine is 772-7-4-5-254. By the way, the game 7 o'clock tonight, pre-game shows at 430, be at KS Bar, come say hello to everybody. Get a pre-game meal before this game that hopefully will not be competitive. We will see. One person writes, Matt, Shannon is the best.
Starting point is 00:29:57 He doesn't care about being politically correct. He just says what he thinks. That's true. He's right. Like, that's good for Shade. But, like, that's why Shannon has to be in the role he is. If Shannon was the only host, this show would be canceled. But by being in the role as the guy chipping in, then I think that works.
Starting point is 00:30:17 If he was just, if it was three straight hours of Shannon talking, this show would have been canceled years ago. That's right. You offset my personality. I do. And I make sure. And I know, like, okay, I know when to ask Shannon things, Drew. there are times I'm like, I think I know what he'll say. You already know the answer.
Starting point is 00:30:33 You know not to go to me. I actually have a better idea of what Shannon is going to say on any topic than almost anyone else. Like Ryan has become the wild card in his old age, Drew. Like, we don't know what he's going to say sometimes. Ryan doesn't know what he's going to say next. Yeah, sometimes mid-sentence. That's the scary part when he doesn't even know what's coming next. So like, Drew, like today when you're there and I'm not, like, I think I usually I can see when
Starting point is 00:31:00 his brain is about to do something stupid. But when I can't see him, I'm relying on you to get him to shut up before he starts doing something like that. And it's a tough job when you're talking to him and setting him up. And I, you know, I don't want to butt in and be like, no, no, no, stop, stop. I see in his eyes. So it's like a slippery slope here. I don't know when to intervene and when not to.
Starting point is 00:31:19 I'm going to give you permission to just jump in. No, no, don't let him. I see it. Because you and I know the look. He gets a look in his eyes like, I'm going to say something funny. And that's usually a bad sign. especially when he gets that grin and it's going to be something perverted or, you know, something we know he doesn't need to say. Why does he do that so much?
Starting point is 00:31:37 He didn't used to be like that, did he? On that stuff. He's getting worse with his old age. He is. You get that point to where you just don't care in life, you know? Like, I'm just going to say it. And I don't care. I wonder if when they put in the hair plugs, they also added some something in it.
Starting point is 00:31:56 No filter. They took his filter out. Maybe that's Maybe that's what it was. One person writes, Matt, what would each of you get grade Will Stein on his first week as Kentucky football coach? That's right. He's only been to coach for a week. It feels like a lot longer, but it's been one week.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Considering the press conference and his early hirings and the fact he's had to, you know, still do his job at Oregon, through what kind of grade would you give Will Stein for week one? You know, other than the press conference, it's really hard to do. grade him on much. He's added an offensive coordinator, but we have no idea how that. Got a recruit. Got a big time recruit to come. They did hold the signing class together. You got Darby, the receiver. Yeah, I'll give him an A-minus. There's only so much you can do right now. And in the little things he's done, I have no reason to complain about any of it. Shannon. Yeah, he got his OC quickly, so that's a good positive. He won the press conference,
Starting point is 00:32:50 but I feel like it's hard to lose your introductory press conference. People have done it, though. I mean, like Liam Cohen lost his with his doing. Like, you know. Yeah. But it is hard. Yeah, I mean, a weekend, I would say an A. I don't know how you give them any worse than an A. Yeah, I give you an A minus.
Starting point is 00:33:09 I thought the press conference was good, not necessarily perfect but good. I think that commitment was big, got staff going. I think his mom gets an A for the whole Sissy Cakes thing. His grade is bumped up for me because of his mom and Sissy Cakes and that connection to the fan base. That's added to the excitement, even though it's cake. They are, by the way, you can't get one of those cakes. They're probably on back order.
Starting point is 00:33:32 I mean, they are, like, they're everywhere. That she was actually going to bring us some today, but I wasn't there. But, like, that's been, you talk about, you talk about bumping up your business. Your son gets hired, Shannon, and then your cake business takes off along with it, right? Great for business. I mean, I don't know that they can make cakes quick enough for the demand. Yeah, because there's, yeah. I mean, there's just two, well, they may have staff, I don't know, but the two main ones.
Starting point is 00:34:02 So who's up first? Tori. Tori, go ahead, Tori. Hey, Matt. So I know how to read and I'm not colorblind. I think I could probably be your spotter. Yeah, but you have to have done it before because it's like, it's all about calling. They're right, the plays and the sets and the numbers and like, I do think there's like a repetition to it.
Starting point is 00:34:26 I think there needs to be, since I have no experience. I think I need someone with experience. I think the difference between someone that's done it for their entire life and me is probably like a week. Wow. So you're not, Drew doesn't sound like Tori's respecting the job of spotter very much, is he? Yeah. What did the spotter do in your life at some point? Sounds like you just have anger against spotters.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Just doesn't believe that a spotter can. I feel like Shannon there's a little more to it than. There's got to be. Yeah. I mean, you got to trust the person. I guess they can say the same thing about me as a play-by-play host. I have such little. Let's think about Western Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:35:11 I mean, think about that. What if you went to Western Kentucky, which is like a broadcast journalism school. And you don't get the opportunity to call the game, but Matt Jones does, who has never done this before in his life. But I have done radio, right? So, like, you know, I appreciate the call. I have not done the mechanics of calling. a football game, which is certainly a unique skill.
Starting point is 00:35:36 But I have done the mechanics of getting in and out of breaks, trying to keep a conversation flowing, trying to keep it interesting. Like, it's not like it's going to be dead air. Right? Yeah. Come on, encourage me. I know, you got this.
Starting point is 00:35:49 You just need yourself a good spotter. And you need to know your stats. I feel like the difference between success and failure, Drew, is whether or not I have a good spot. You just blame it on the spotter if it sucks. Exactly. The spotter screen. it up. He didn't spot. That's right.
Starting point is 00:36:03 And let that be known mid-game. Like, second quarter, like, I've got to get a better spotter if we're going to save this broadcast. Can any of you all come in a spot now? Am I going to do like firing Hugh Free's mid-season? I think so. I think so. Game, get a new spotter. If you have to, if it gets to that point.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Do you still have your PlayStation 5? I think you should get the college football game and play with these two teams and that'll drill the rosters into your head. That's how I used to learn all the college football rosters back in the day is playing that game so much. Just keep playing Western versus Southern Miss over and over, and you'll have all of the guys memorized with their numbers. That's actually a pretty good idea.
Starting point is 00:36:39 I need to get Tom Leach to, you know, because you were right, he has that big card, Drew, but I don't know what's on that card. Do you know what's on it? No, it always looks so colorful and organized. Yeah, it's color-coded. Pronunciations for names. You need to make sure you know how to pronounce every... I've got to learn how to pronunciate these names.
Starting point is 00:36:57 Oh, no. And they take it seriously. The parents will be on you. All right, Shannon, pull up the Western Kentucky and Southern Miss roster, and you give me any names. Here, let's do this real quick. Let's pull this. I want you to be prepared. Yeah. Now, let's do this.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Let's pull it up and let's see if there are names that I think. Oh, I already see one. Okay, hang on. Let me get it pulled up because I need to be able to see it. Western Kentucky football roster. All right. Let's see. West Kentucky Football Ross.
Starting point is 00:37:31 What number are you worried about? All right. He is number zero. Zero. Are you talking about, oh my goodness. Yeah, good luck. Well, how would you say that one? McAvelli, Malachamal.
Starting point is 00:37:49 This is going to be great. See, right there, that's when you throw the spotter under the bus. You say, you were supposed to give me the pronunciations. It was malo tomorrow. That's hard to say. Mallow to Mow. Yeah. Mallow to Mow.
Starting point is 00:38:03 It's okay. Yeah, we're going to have to work on that one. You might be in the clear for the rest of the one. Let's just hope that guy doesn't do anything important. The rest of them look up. Dominic Oliver, I got him. Caleb Mickle. Connor Olson, I think you can say that one.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Robbie Harrison, easy. Owen Loy. He's a good guy. Avarian Cole like him. Cole. What about LaVelle Wright, a former cat? Just talk about him the whole game. They have a former cat?
Starting point is 00:38:31 LaVelle Wright? Yeah, Kentucky. Oh, they got a guy named Fonzie? You're good. Zavion Tutu Griffin? He's got to be good, right, if his nickname is Tutu? Yeah. We've got to look at the other team's roster.
Starting point is 00:38:45 You're good on Western Kentucky. You're good on that. It looks like that's all right on Western Kentucky. If I can just do the guy number zero, I think I got the rest of them. He's a defensive lawman too, so he may not even start. That's where you give him a cool nickname, Agent Zero. Just calling him Agent Zero the whole game.
Starting point is 00:39:02 You don't even bother saying it. Look at this. Maybe I need to take Drew. Drew, you two actually understand me, right? Like you could go just call him Agent Zero. Yeah, I know. Hey, Southern Miss has a guy named Matt Jones. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:39:16 That's 20 minutes of content right there. That's a whole quarter. What position does Matt Jones play? bench. No, running back. He's a right. Wait a minute. Was that the guy that was that Old Miss? Maybe he's a red shirt. Yeah. It is actually. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:34 That's the guy that was that old Miss. Look at this. You have so much to say. You're going to eat overtime to get through all this content. Look at this. All right. Number 12 on Southern Miss. How are you saying that? Yeah. See, I don't, I don't have it pulled up. What's that? What's how do you spell? G-U-Y-L-J-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A. it's his first name. Geiselah.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Geiselah. Gailajal. Okay. Then his last name is T-H-E-O-D-U-L-E. Theogel. The O-Jol. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Galaja The-O-Jal. I'll accept it. Galarja Fiozal. Yeah. Think he was in Hamilton. Writes me a letter every day. Kentucky families are struggling to access what should be basic essentials,
Starting point is 00:40:21 housing and child care. Not luxuries, not extras, essentials. And the Kentucky Chambers focused on improving access to housing and child care for all ages and stages because Kentucky's families, workforce, and economy depend on it. Kentucky Chamber's been taking this on for over a year now
Starting point is 00:40:36 and they're asking you to help. Go to OpportunityStartshere.com. That's OpportunityStartshere.com. Add your name and tell lawmakers housing matters in Kentucky. It's Opportunity Startshere.com with the Kentucky Chamber. We'll take a break and be right back.

And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
Starting point is 00:42:04 we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Starting point is 00:42:23 Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway.
Starting point is 00:42:41 Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. What's up, guys? This is Clever Taylor the Fourth. And on my podcast, The Cliver Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:42:57 This linebacker, this linebacker whops up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:43:19 Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio, Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm CJ Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:43:42 And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhaust. at this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:44:04 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He run up the court, licking his fingers while he got the ball. After you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Oh, yeah. Get your ass up and down. the court and you're going to get the ball.
Starting point is 00:44:24 So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Matt? Is this Leonard Skinner? It is. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like this is a song that like the Venettys of the world
Starting point is 00:44:40 come in as their intro music a lot. Probably so. It just feels like guys that, like I feel like if Ryan hosted a show, he would come in with this song a lot. Leonard Skinner's a band that has no original members but still tours. I don't think that should be allowed. I've been very clear about that.
Starting point is 00:44:54 I mean, like 100 years from now, they're still going to be touring. Like Minuto. Yeah, it's not really Leonard Skinner, though. No, it's not. But I don't like, I think you should only be able to continue the band if you have the same lead singer. Because that's who everybody's there to see anyway, right? Yeah, but I mean, well, I mean, then in that case, ACDC wouldn't have been around for the last 30 years. Yeah, but I think their new lead singer was good.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Yeah. So you're saying there are exceptions. There are a couple of exceptions. Van Halen's an exception when they went to Sammy Hagar. Right. And then, yeah, ACDC, and that's it. Nobody else gets it. Nobody else gets it.
Starting point is 00:45:36 859-280-2287. Text machine is 772-724-5254. One person writes, I'd like to know from Frank Franklin specifically. Will Kentucky make the tournament? it. Oh, boy. I'll say yes at this point, but I'll admit it's way more comfortable than it should be on December 9th. You cannot go 0 and 6 in your non-conference schedule and then go into conference play thinking you're in good standing. So I don't know if I'm calling for them to win the next two, but at least get one and then figure this out by SEC play and you can sneak in as a non-seed.
Starting point is 00:46:14 Yeah, I'm still going to say yes, but it's because. I do have the hope that with low and quaintance you're going to be better and Diabate. So I'm going to still say yes. I also think the SEC is not very good. But I think the key stretch for me is going to be pull up the basketball schedule there.
Starting point is 00:46:36 You play Alabama in your first game on the road. I have no confidence we're going to win that game. But then if I remember correctly, we've got like three or four games in a row that are pretty winnable. Am I right about that? after after i'm not calling anything winnable uh right now but yeah we go uh let's see you're right it goes at alabama opens play then host missouri and mississippi state and then you go with us we we need to win those then what are the next two what's the next road games uh ls u and
Starting point is 00:47:06 tennessee back to back okay so that little string of mississippi state at ls u i will decide whether or not this team is a tournament team in those three games. If you're a tournament team, you need to win all three of those games, especially if you have a bad non-conference. Those are going to be the three games to me. If you lose any of those games, you're probably going to struggle to make the tournament. So let's see how that to me is when I'll judge. I mean, even if you're great, winning at Alabama's hard.
Starting point is 00:47:40 Winning that Tennessee is hard. But those three games are a tournament team should beat those two teams at home and go win at LSU. We'll see what happens with those. Who's next? The truth. Truth. How are you truth?
Starting point is 00:47:53 Matt, I just want to personally to say this to you, and if you allowed me to do it, I'm praying for your mother and your dad, and I know what it is to go through medical, all that. But I want to let you know you got a friend, and, you know, we cut up our sports, but ain't not like heaven. I wish I had my mom and my dad like you and you have your mom and dad. My heart go out for you. And if you can let me say just a little bit, prayer for you right on KSR. Is that all right?
Starting point is 00:48:31 It is. Thank you. Father, I thank you for Matt Joan, his family, father. And God, I pray that you knit them together. God, you healed his father. God, you bring strength and love and cover them. But I ask you in the name of Jesus, amen. Thank you, Matt.
Starting point is 00:48:50 I'll holler at y'all Friday about Indiana. God bless you. Thank you, man. I appreciate that. That's very nice of you. Who's next? Let's go to Tim. Tim.
Starting point is 00:49:00 Go ahead, Tim. Hey, Matt. Thanks for taking my call. Hey, I just want to talk about Mark Pope just for a second. A lot of people are saying that maybe he's on the hot seat and maybe he is, but I don't think so. Although I would say this poor performance has got to be all on him. Like, you know, he had to know the chemistry wasn't right before all of this happened.
Starting point is 00:49:30 He just had to know. Yeah. You know, I appreciate the call. I don't know, Drew. Do you think he did? I mean, I've kind of thought after the Louisville and Michigan State game, at times he seemed as sort of baffled by it as everybody else, don't you? Yeah, he's out of loss for words, and maybe you have some bad apples that he didn't see in recruiting,
Starting point is 00:49:55 and you can chalk it up to that. But next year, if we have another team where we're like, well, these guys don't fit again either. You really have to get concerned. Because remember, a big part of his message in recruiting is he says no to guys because they're not the right fit. You know, we'll miss a guy on the portal and justify it by like, well, the meeting with Pope didn't go well. He doesn't fit Kentucky. Well, the guys you settled on obviously aren't fitting very Kentucky very well either. So that worries me about in recruiting, because he's supposed to be so selective about who he's getting.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Yeah. What has been sort of odd to me is to watch how much he has seemed unable to figure out what was going on. That has been a little disconcerting to me. Pirates has been locally owned and operated for over 75 years, serving the bluegrass with appliance, furniture, and mattresses. After all these years, Pirates just keeps getting better. If you're in Lexington and coming, go to the bar and join us. And then if you want to give away your tickets, I've had a bunch of people send them to me. Matt.jones at Kentucky Sports Radio, we will give them a one.
Starting point is 00:51:17 away this afternoon to people who haven't, who aren't able to use them. And I want to thank the truth for that. You know, the, it's crazy how the world works. Just a second before that, I got on the text machine and somebody had written something actually somewhat bad to me, and I was like, how could somebody say that? And then you get back on and you get that. And, you know, that's a dude who's been calling this show for 15 years. and I can't tell you how much that meant to me,
Starting point is 00:51:50 and I appreciate it, man. And thank you guys very much, everybody, for listening. Enjoy the game tonight. I will not be on the game stuff tonight, but I will be back tomorrow morning. Appreciate you guys listening. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy,
