Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:01:31 Where's he at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs.

You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow. Then after that game seven, Mark keep coming to him. He's like, you know, I love you, dog.
Starting point is 00:02:04 You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. We've got folks here from Richmond, Mason County, Houston, and Louisville in the house today.
Starting point is 00:03:27 So circling the environment. we got Shannon these two decided to come back to work today. Good to have you guys back. Which is exciting. Ryan Lemon. Don't say back. Oh. Yeah, the back.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Could have your front. How's it hanging in there? I made it in here. I'm doing all right. I've gotten to where I can walk. Literally, the last two days, I couldn't take three steps. I've just been in bed stuck. But I was able to walk today and here I am.
Starting point is 00:03:53 I know I said. Ready to play through the pain. I know I said this yesterday, but if you've never had that, it is the absolute worst. Like, it's the worst. I'm sure they're pain, like, you know, people say like we have a baby. It hurts. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Allegedly. I mean, they say, and, you know, just thinking about the mechanics of it, I could see how it would hurt. Just, you know, just, I get it. It's not impossible. But I would say for a male, I can't think of too many things that hurt worse than, what you had and what I've had now three times because it's awful. Now, you, Ryan, are also okay. You, did I hear you ran into the back of a parked salt truck?
Starting point is 00:04:41 You know, I've been doing this show with you for 14 years, and I've rear-ended two vehicles, a Maserati and a salt truck. Oh, my goodness. Okay, you know, listen, I had not been in a wreck until about a month and a half ago. So I'm not trying to, like, give you a hard time. My wreck was my fault. So I'm not trying to give you a hard time. But how do you hit a parked salt truck?
Starting point is 00:05:07 It was at a stop sign, which is kind of down an incline to get to it. As soon as I hit my brakes, man, I started sliding. There was no stopping it. I just slid right into the back of it. Now, it looks like in your car on the picture, you slid under it. It did, pretty much. That could have been a lot worse. Yes, it could have.
Starting point is 00:05:23 It kind of slid and turned a little bit, thank goodness. or I wanted to just hit it, slid right underneath it. So how do you get insured? How do you get insured for cars? Because, I mean, you have a history. It's expensive. I'm not going to lie, it's a little expensive. And when I called my insurance guy, you know, Tim from Powell County.
Starting point is 00:05:44 But apparently, like, he has you on speed dial. He knows. He's like, why don't you, can't you hit a Ford Pinto or something? Why are you going to hit the expensive vehicles? So you messed up the salt truck? Didn't even, not even a scratch. Okay. It's like a tank.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Because you did like total that Maserati. Well, that was just the back bumper. The $30,000 back bumper on the Maserati that I hit. Wow. Makes them count. Yeah. If you're going to wreck, you're going to make it count. Well, I like you put out that social media video and he said there's a minor fender bender.
Starting point is 00:06:15 That doesn't sound like a minor fender bender hitting an assault truck. I mean, anytime you go under a truck like that, that could have been bad. Well, I'm glad you're okay. Well, Paul Miller Ford came to my rescue. Did you see the monster car I'm driving out? out there now. I can go over. Oh, is that Bronco yours? Yes, I can go over mountains.
Starting point is 00:06:30 If you want to go four-wheeling after the show, you and me, let's go in the mud. I don't, I don't know if you've recognized it. I don't get in the car when you're driving. It's one of my, I have like a couple rules. One of the rules is don't let Ryan drive anything. You let me drive one time in one of our road trips. It was from the parking lot to the gas station. Like 50 feet.
Starting point is 00:06:50 That was it. No, there's never a reason to let you drive. Well, I'm glad you guys are back. You know, when you were gone, we kind of scrambled. So I had Myron. I had Adam Luckett. I thought they did great. And yesterday was old school, me and Shannon.
Starting point is 00:07:03 We were just reading lists of movies. And I, Shannon, I got to tell you, I really like that. When I started that segment, I thought, this is probably not going to be a fan favorite. Oh, I was wrong. No. People now want us to just pick a year of movies and read the top 30. So we'll do that again sometime, Sean, if you're okay with it. A lot of fun doing that.
Starting point is 00:07:22 And Ryan and Drew, we also went old school. we did a Facebook birthday shoutout. We did do a Facebook birthday shout out. And that guy, whoever the name was, he wrote me last night and thanked me for the birthday shout-out. He was listening. See? So, like, you know, there's nothing wrong with the birthday shout-out. Ryan, I think it's fine.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Well, I loved it, but I was screaming at the radio because Toy Story totally underrated in your poll yesterday. I could not believe anything your poll said if you had Toy Story. Well, it wasn't my poll. It was the box office returns. I didn't do a poll. Fake news. No way. The reason was, if you would listen the whole show, Toy Story came out in 95, and so in 96, it was at the end of its run, which is why it was in 29th.
Starting point is 00:08:02 You know, since he mentioned the birthday, let's keep the good vibes. All right. Drew, 1 through 14. That's today's birthdays. I'll go with 12, Bob. 12. Let's go down here. Let's give a birthday shout out to Brad Dardy.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Brad Dardy, happy birthday. Not former Cleveland Cavalier, Brad Dorety. You would think it would be. No, this is Brad Dardy who went to you. he lives in Franklin, Kentucky, and happy birthday to him. He has followed also his friends with Tom Leach. So Brad Doherty, happy birthday to you.
Starting point is 00:08:35 And see, Shannon, the segment still works every day. There we go. I think we got to continue it now. Brad Doherty is a forgotten NBA player. I haven't forgotten him. He played for the Cavs. He was a good center, played for Wake Forest in college. Am I right about there?
Starting point is 00:08:50 No, Carolina. I think he went to Carolina. And he owned a NASCAR team. That's the thing that people don't think about. You never see a lot of sinners from the NBA who then go and own a NASCAR team. And he was actually a NASCAR announcer for a number of years, which was kind of weird. Yeah. He became a commentator, the guy that's like an expert on NASCAR.
Starting point is 00:09:11 He's also one of those players where when I was growing up collecting cards, no matter what pack I got, there was a Brad Darry card in there. I feel like he had a card in every pack that was made. All right. We did trivia last night. Packed house. great crowd, a lot of new faces. I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:09:26 I heard it was hard last night. It was one of my harder ones, but I was proud of it because I enjoyed doing that last night. And I actually had a lot of fun. Thanks to everybody that came out. We'll do another one first full week of January. A couple questions for you all. All right. Let's do a UK basketball question.
Starting point is 00:09:40 We're ready. All right, we got a lot of UK basketball intellects here. All-time Kentucky basketball wins over a program. Okay. So the team we've beaten the most over the years, Vandy. We've beaten Vandy more than any other team, but most of our all-time wins, teams we beat the most are in the SEC because we play them the most, etc. Eight schools with official religious affiliations that we've beaten the most at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:10:09 So eight schools with official and not counting the schools in Kentucky because we've beaten Trancy a lot and Bellarmine and Kentucky and Kentucky way. So take out of the schools of Kentucky. were the eight schools that are religious schools that we have beaten the most. Feel free to make a guess. Shannon, feel free to jump in if you would like as well. Oral Roberts. O'Roberts is not on the list. We've played OroLobberts Lake twice.
Starting point is 00:10:35 BYU. You all are terrible at this. BYU. When's last time we played BYU? Thank you. That's exactly right. Do you remember any game against BYU? No.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Okay, thank you. So they're not on the list. I'm with Shannon. I can't even come up with this school. We've beaten one team. Notre Dame. Notre Dame. There we go.
Starting point is 00:10:53 We've beat them 38 times. So we should be able to get Notre Dame. Xavier? Xavier is second. We used to play them every year back in the long time ago's. And they're the top two by far. So those two should have been easy. Now, after that it gets a little harder.
Starting point is 00:11:08 I'll grant you. Abilene Christian. You all are just, no. We've played Abilene Christian once. Stop laughing. I did not. miss that. You're making a bad joke and starting to laugh. Okay, what else?
Starting point is 00:11:25 St. Joseph. First of all, when have we played St. Joseph? Can you think of a time? Maybe back in the day? St. John's. How about another St. Johns? Yes. We played them. He had it. He was right there.
Starting point is 00:11:43 He said, he said, St. You threw me a lob. I finished. He even got the ST-J-O. Yeah. And didn't get, wait a minute. All right. So there's one more saint. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:55 St. Bonaventure. St. Louis. That's exactly right. I did not know until I did this state that St. Louis was a religious school. I guess I just thought of it as a city. St. Louis is actually fourth.
Starting point is 00:12:07 And by the way, St. Louis is one of the only teams in the country. We have a losing record to. But St. Louis. All right. A couple more. Robert Morris. Robert Morris. No.
Starting point is 00:12:17 You're thinking way too small. schools. There are still big schools you are forgetting that we've played multiple times. You're thinking of these little tiny ones. What about the big ones? There's a whole conference full of these schools. I got nothing, Bob. Okay. The Big East is almost all Catholic. Is Georgetown one? The Big East is almost all Catholic. No, but that would have been a good guess. DePaul. We've played DePaul a zillion times. Marquette, Creighton. I didn't know these were religious schools. I didn't either. I'm learning something today.
Starting point is 00:12:50 And then Baylor is the last one. All four of those I didn't realize were religious schools. Well, Baylor is a very big Baptist school. Did you know that? No, I didn't. Okay. All right. Last question, since you all did not do well on this.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I'm going to do first president to do these things while they're in office. So this is like, do you know who the first president to do these things is while they're in office? Who is the first president to send an email? Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton. Clinton is correct. Shannon with one point. Who was the first president to be on the radio? NDR. No. Anybody else? Give you a free guess here, Drew and Shannon. It's going to be somebody from like the 1920s. I mean, yes, but so guess so. I don't know anybody. I don't know who's president in 1920.
Starting point is 00:13:43 All right. You all are not good. Who is it? Warren G. Hardy. First president to be 19, I don't know what year. 19, around what you said, Shannon. First president to be on television? Carter. Eisenhower. Carter? In the late 70s? Reagan's in the 80s.
Starting point is 00:14:05 Do you not know when TV was invented? I have not been able to answer any of these. I'm just trying to jump in. Television was invented way before the 70s. Well, do you want dead air or me to name some presidents? Give me a guess. I guessed. I guessed Eisenhower.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Shannon? FDR. FDR. FDR, Shannon with two answers. There you go. First one, first president to have a Twitter account. Barack Obama. Shannon is on a roll.
Starting point is 00:14:30 That is three. Shannon is killing this game. Shannon the president. First president to be impeached. Nixon? Nixon? No, one way before that. Anybody?
Starting point is 00:14:44 Anyone in the crowd? Garfield. Andrew Johnson. He was repeat in a street after the Civil War. First president to live in the current White House. Wow I don't know You aren't going to get this
Starting point is 00:14:59 George Washington designed it But then John Adams Is the one that lived in it Now this one's really hard One person got it last night Only one president's ever been sworn in by a woman And it was in unique circumstances Why it happened
Starting point is 00:15:14 Does anybody know the president That was sworn in by a woman Remember the chief justice wears you in we never had a female Chief Justice. So why would a woman have sworn someone in? Emergency situation. Assassination.
Starting point is 00:15:32 What would the emergency situation have been where a woman swore somebody in? Lyndon Johnson, there you go. That's what I was going to say, sir. Fly back on the plane. It's right out of her mouth. Look at that. He got that.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Flying back on the plane from Kennedy's assassination. Last one. First president to attend while president a Super Bowl. Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was a little before the Super Bowl. They didn't have football as a sport yet, and there were battles going on during that
Starting point is 00:16:08 period that would have made it hard as well. Battles on the gridiron. Yeah. JFK. It happened last year. Donald Trump was the first president to go to a Super Bowl last year. So there you go. It's a good thing you all didn't come to trivia last night.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Although Shannon would have done well. I thought you did very well. There you go. The grapevine. It was very hard. It was. Normally we have probably five, six, seven teams that get over 100. Only had one last night.
Starting point is 00:16:37 Wow. It was difficult. And you enjoyed that. I loved it. I don't know about you. I mean, you wouldn't have done well. But 859-28027. Text machine is 772-74525-254.
Starting point is 00:16:49 We will take a break. Be right back. The Giants have returned. This is KSR. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
Starting point is 00:17:05 That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the plays, the controversies, and the stories behind the headlines. We go straight to the source, the athlete themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions, the stuff nobody gets to hear.
Starting point is 00:17:20 The laughs, the drama, the triumphs, the moments that never make the... highlight reel. From viral moments to historic games, from buzzer beaters to controversial calls, we break it down, give you context, and ask the questions everybody wants answered. SportsSlice brings you closer to the action with stories told by the people who live them. Listen to SportsSlice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
Starting point is 00:17:51 Kier Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Destin, Ross because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth or are you a good person because you're afraid because that's two different intentions bro absolutely and that that's two
Starting point is 00:18:30 different levels of trust i want you to just really be a good person join me care gains is we have real conversations about healing growth fatherhood pressure and purpose on my new podcast learn the hard way open your free iHeart radio app search learn the hard way and listen now what's up guys this is cliver Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, the Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game.
Starting point is 00:18:59 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Listen to the Clivert show on the. the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:19:43 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:20:05 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get to fly. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball, like, after you go through a training camp with that, I say, you figure it out.
Starting point is 00:20:21 real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome back, Tuggy Sports Radio tonight here at KS Bar at 9 o'clock, Kentucky and Wisconsin. The volleyball watch party will be this evening. I can't wait. I think it's going to be fun.
Starting point is 00:20:46 The should have a great crowd. I would say if you're coming, I would try to get here a few minutes early, get your spot, be loud. Might as well we have some drink specials tonight, but it's a big game. Cats have a chance to make the championship against Wisconsin. The first game is Pitt versus Texas A&M. Are you excited, Drew, about our volleyball team with a chance to win the whole thing? Very excited, and I've seen a lot of pictures and videos of fans that made the trip.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Maybe a little jealous that we weren't able to do it, go to Kansas City, but I love seeing that they've got some support out there already. I'm assuming it's going to be a good crowd today, and hopefully they finish the job. I know they're the betting favorite, where it's that point where you get that anxiety when you have the expectation to win, you just got to keep pushing forward two more times. In 2014 in basketball, we were the
Starting point is 00:21:29 underdog in every game, and then we got to the championship, and we were the favorite, and we lost. Now, we weren't the underdog in every game. We've been in the favorite, but now it's, oh, with Nebraska out, it's there for the taking, and we have to spike the ball. The field did kind of open up Nebraska loss. I'm kind of glad Texas lost, yeah. That was kind of made me scared to play them.
Starting point is 00:21:51 a third time this season just because the other games were so close. But this team, Kentucky team, they faced adversity many times down 02 sets to Texas and come back and win it. Yeah, well, it should be fun. They've put out a lot of videos of the players. Nike sent them this swag bag of like everything. I mean, the players were opening up. You can see how excited they are.
Starting point is 00:22:15 I just think it's going to be fun. I mean, this fan base, volleyball has provided this fan base with its excitement post-COVID. I mean, it really has. Like, the best things that have happened to this fan base post-COVID on the field have been volleyball, winning the title, baseball going to the World Series, and now this again. I mean, I guess, you know, football, I guess the Will Levis year was good, and then basketball. I mean, I guess last year, the run in the tournament, but like volleyball has kind of carried a lot of our emotion in the last six years. It really has. And it's been great.
Starting point is 00:22:57 My friends, you know, we're a bunch of 40-year-old males. And we're sending pictures of like watching it home on our screen or meeting up at bars. That's never really been the case for volleyball until recently. But it's been the thing to get behind in the most exciting sport we've had for a while now. I mean, I will say definitively, if you were talking the 10 best post-COVID atmospheres, at KS. Barr, probably three are UK volleyball games? I mean, like, it's like UK volleyball, a handful of basketball games,
Starting point is 00:23:26 trancy when they won the national title. Yeah. But UK volleyball, so I hope it continues tonight. If they win, I think they play Sunday afternoon in the finals. So are you going to let Drew come tonight? No, you guys are coming, but Drew, if we go down two sets to nothing, you are kicked out. I'll probably be here for a set at best anyway.
Starting point is 00:23:43 I will require people to literally physically take you out of the building. be careful because you're back. I don't know if I have five in me regardless, so it might be good for the ladies tonight. You called the last one. They down until you go, watch this. I'm going to leave. They're going to rally.
Starting point is 00:23:56 It happens every time. And they rallied immediately. I got to the light and texted. Yeah. All right. So we'll talk more about that game. I want to ask you about a comment. Did you see Dane's comments?
Starting point is 00:24:08 No. Of course you did. Dane Key was asked about Nebraska. And he was asked about the portal and he basically said something like i'd just say to kids be very careful when you go in the portal because you may think you're going to a better situation and you don't and then you end up in a worse one now nebraska fans don't seem thrilled by that comment a lot of comments
Starting point is 00:24:36 suggest hey you're still at nebraska you have a game left you only went in the portal once and you came here i think he later said something like well i didn't mean me but uh What did you make of that comment? I think it was in his response to question about Raola transferring, but there was a lot of felt like some truth also in Dane's tone about himself. You know, and you don't have to hear it from him to know. I mean, maybe he had a great time there. I can't speak for his experience, but statistically it did not work out.
Starting point is 00:25:05 It did not improve. He ended up with a worse year than any year he had here. Now they won more games, have another game left. That means a lot. But statistically, it doesn't seem to have been the right move because he did take a dip in numbers. Yeah, the offense change. I think he thought what was going to get out there. They think he thought they were going to throw around a lot,
Starting point is 00:25:21 and they basically went to a running game most of their offense, and then that Riola kid got hurt, and then the quarterback came in, they just ran the ball more. Rayola, by the way, very likely apparently to end up at Louisville. Yeah, they're after him hard. Can you imagine? I mean, Daten, he's still got one more year. He ain't going to go play for Louisville, is he?
Starting point is 00:25:38 No, he's done. He's off to the draft. Yeah, he's done. I would love Raola at Louisville. He's not been very good. I've never thought he's good. It actually hurt me a little bit when Dane went to. Nebraska because I thought, man, I've never believed in that quarterback.
Starting point is 00:25:51 I think people just think if you look like Mahomes, you'll be Mahomes. And the way he tries to be exactly like him, he's, I don't know, kind of a cornball. Yeah. But it was an interesting comment. I mean, you can't help but read into it himself. With him and Barion, it really didn't work out for either one of them. Do you think it would have been better for Kentucky and them if they both had states? here. You may not be able to speak to that because I don't want to put you in a weird
Starting point is 00:26:22 spot. But Drew, do you think they would have been better for them if they had stayed here? Because neither one of them had a better year. And really neither one of them won. LSU didn't win at all. And Nebraska just won a little bit. I still worry that they just needed a reset in that receiver room. I don't know who the fault is, which direction, but we said at the end of the last season that needed to be blown up. I mean, maybe if one of them's back and it's... But what if they had had, I mean, I'm just doing a what if. What if they had had cutter bowling playing like he did, and they had Dane and Barry?
Starting point is 00:26:58 And let's just say Berrien brings it down a notch. Although he didn't at LSU either. So there's probably not a lot of reason to think he would have. But I think Dan... Kendrick Law did just as much as Barryon Brown probably had done at the end of the year. Dane, I think, was missed more of a go-to... you know go up and get it receiver but barryon i don't know kick returning probably would have helped you know he's obviously a special player but i think once they started going to law later in the year
Starting point is 00:27:26 he's kind of did what barion would have done you're probably right about that you know the three years dan was here had a different quarterback every year and they're going to bring in a fourth another four years in a row with four different quarterbacks i know i think he just wanted a little continuity man just you know by going to a different quarterback one that at least had a little experience yeah that's true he would have had experience not with him but but in general. I think Dane would have been more helpful than Barry on this team. It was interesting because he's right about that.
Starting point is 00:27:52 And we kind of talked about this yesterday when we were talking about the AD stuff. You know, you can sometimes think it's time for a change, but that does not guarantee the next guy is going to be better. You know, I mean, with Mark Stubes, and the same thing is true with Cal with Pope. We all thought it was time for a change, but that doesn't guarantee you that the next guy's better. but it also doesn't mean that the change was not correct.
Starting point is 00:28:18 You know, it's easy to just go, like if Will Stein doesn't work out, it'll be easy to go, well, maybe we should just kept stoops. But it was time for a change, and then you just have to hope that the next guy works out, right? Yeah, and when you don't know how they're actually going to be, all you can do is get excited, and that unifies the fan base that had been bickering for years. That's a key thing, because a new guy, it's exactly right. A new guy does unify the fan base either way. Take your calls.
Starting point is 00:28:44 859-2-80-22-87. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Tegi Sports Radio, 859-2-80-22-87. We've got a couple of lines.
Starting point is 00:29:03 I'd like to talk to people, but you've got to be on there. And if pain stiffness, 859-2-80-22-87, if pain, stiffness are a numbing sensation preventing you from enjoying watching your favorite teams, well, Drew knows what that's like. like, go to court physical therapy for over 30 years. They help athletes, fans, and average shows get rid of aches and pains. It's court.com, K-O-R-T.com. You got a little bit left in this year or get your appointment for next year.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Court.com. It's K-O-R-T.com. The NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, Ryan, announced that next year the finals of the NBA Cup will likely be at a college arena. They said they may do the semifinals and finals at a college arena. and then Shams Chamis Chimaria leaked the arenas they're considering. And it's Cameron Indoor, it's Indiana's Arena, Rupp Arena, and Fogall and Fieldhouse are the four that they're looking at.
Starting point is 00:30:00 They say there are pros and cons to each of them. Would you like to see the NBA Cup semifinals and finals at Rupp Arena next year? I would love it. Rupp's the biggest of those four arenas, so I think they got a really good chance of maybe landing that deal if it happens because I think we would pack it. The problem they're having
Starting point is 00:30:22 is they're not able to draw in Vegas. So the question is, could we draw here? So let's just think about it. Let's just use this year's. Nick Spurs played for the championship. If Nick Spurs was in Rupp Arena, you think we'd fill the place?
Starting point is 00:30:37 Yeah, I think so. I think there's enough interest in basketball in the state, as we all know, and then whatever teams you get in the game will bring enough with them from other cities. And you have a really good chance of getting some Kentucky guys here. Yes. I mean, that was only add to it, obviously. I mean, last year, so Nick Spurs, if it was them, Carl Towns, you get Deer and Fox,
Starting point is 00:30:59 and you get Kelton Johnson. So you have three guys right there that are in it. And if you happen to get one that is like, the Lakers made it, and you get Anthony Davis, or if you get, you know, Tyree, Maxie. I mean, Carl Towns is like that. Yeah, I mean, what if Reed, what if the Rockets made it? What if Reed was playing here? You know, I mean, you could have, I think it would definitely work. I mean, the other thing about, if you think about with Lexington, where it's centrally located is, we're located relatively close for a lot of teams. So like if it was like, or if the Bucks made it,
Starting point is 00:31:38 their fans can drive here, right? Pacers, their fans could drive here. Bulls, calves. Bulls, calves, hawks, Memphis. You know, there's a lot of teams who, and then, of course, if you're in New York, you could make an easy trip. So I actually think Lexington, Ryan,
Starting point is 00:31:56 would make a lot of sense as the place. Now, they said the favorite is probably Cameron Indoor, which makes sense to me, except that's the tiny arena. I mean, that's tiny. Like, you're going to have a hard time getting in, it, but I do love this idea in general. I absolutely love the idea.
Starting point is 00:32:12 And just kind of your argument right there, you'd almost take away Kansas. There's the middle of nowhere, not close. And it's hard to get. The thing about Kansas is hard to get to. They don't have an airport. So you have to fly to Kansas City and then drive. So there's, that's, I think, although I think that's the best environment, to be quite frank with you, it's hard to get there.
Starting point is 00:32:30 You know, almost like you said, Cameron Indoor is almost too small. I think you have a big event like that. So if you're down to Bloomington and Lexington. Yeah, the only thing about Bloomington is, you know, it's even more centrally located, probably even than we are. Yeah. Could be a home game for the Pacers. The Pacers would have a home game. I just think Kentucky would make a lot of sense.
Starting point is 00:32:51 I do too. And I do think this city, because if it was an NBA game where it counted. Like we've had preseason games here over the years. But if you have an NBA game where it counted here, I have. I do feel like our fans would go. I know I would go, wouldn't you? Yeah, I think it would be full. And even though Duke would be cool just to kind of have that visual of NBA on that floor,
Starting point is 00:33:18 it would price people out too much being so small. I'd want to see how many fans the NBA could get with being the biggest. Do you think they can fill it? I do. And if you were to get a big-name team with a star, like say the Warriors and stuff were in it, I mean, people would drive from all over this side of the country to come see the Warriors or a team they wouldn't normally get to see in person in a big game. like that. Well, and I think that's why it's a good idea no matter where they go. Because, I mean,
Starting point is 00:33:41 they're trying to make the NBA Cup a thing that matters. Okay, in Vegas, on any given night, a million things are going on. But if you're telling me that LeBron is playing down the street from my house, like, I never thought that would happen. I definitely would want to go. You hit on something like this would be a competitive, like, well, they're going to play their lights out. You're not a preseason game where they don't play very hard. This is going to be a massive game. And at Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, especially those three, or even Carolina if you wanted to, there's not an NBA team right there, right? So there's a whole group of people who we never have an NBA game here. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:34:24 And again, not to just keep selling Lexington, what is the closest NBA team to us? I guess it's the Pacers. Right. But that's two and a half, three hours away. having it right here bring in like and if you get it now you won't know
Starting point is 00:34:40 but if you get a Kentucky guy in the game you're not going to know because it's a tournament but if you do Drew forget it I mean like Carl Towns versus Deeran Fox here would have been great yeah I think they'd fill it even without one but you had a Kentucky player in there
Starting point is 00:34:55 and yeah people will be fighting over tickets I just think we're in such a good place where you can come from Atlanta I mean Cleveland's up there those teams probably wouldn't be in it next year Cleveland could be But even just big cities that have interest in other teams, we're so easy to get to from so many places. We're six hours from everywhere.
Starting point is 00:35:10 I sometimes say that, but think about Lexington. Think about how many cities we are six hours from. We're six hours from six to seven from Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Raleigh, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, you know, go the other way, St. Louis. Like we're six hours from everywhere, so why not? And from here we're an hour and a half from what, like three different airports, Cincinnati, Louisville, you got Lexington out here. You got three airports, yeah. I think, you know, Mark Pope would be all for it because you could bring these recruits in and sit them right behind. Oh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:35:46 You know? It'd be a huge advantage to wherever school gets. Yeah. To me, the only two choices are Kentucky and Duke. That, to me, is you'd want to go to one of those. And I understand why you'd want to go to Duke. But you're right, you'll price everybody. I just put that 7,000 people in there.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Yeah, about time they all bring friends and family. You're going to price everybody out. That's right. Who's next, Shannon? Let's go to Billy and Green Bay. Billy, go ahead, Billy. Hey, what's up, guys? So I'm currently driving from Green Bay, Wisconsin, down to Kansas City for the game next year on the Cats. And I'm super pumped, however, I'm sitting next to one of my best friends, Adam, who is a diehard Bucky tan. He is head-to-toe dressed in red and white,
Starting point is 00:36:22 and he's got this dorky sweatshirt on that has like a badger head on it, and he's driving me nuts. I should acknowledge he is the reason why I have a ticket to this game. Yes. But I feel like I need a shot in the arm. I think Big Blue Nation needs a shot in the arm. And Ryan, I don't know if you've ever done a women's volleyball pep talk. But I'll pull over on the side of the road, get on the knee. I need to hear one because I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:36:44 You know, he ends up making sains and stuff. I appreciate the call that I don't think are appropriate for a women's volleyball pep talk. So I would just say, we'll leave him for football and basketball. But you can do one in your mind, right. Yeah, I think you're making a good call here. I just, I don't, I don't think you talking about women's volleyball is positive for humanity in that regard. Yeah, a couple of my go-toes wouldn't work for volleyball. That's exactly what I'm worried about.
Starting point is 00:37:15 Who's up next? Terry. Terry, go ahead, Terry. All right, guys, in regards to Jaden Quentin, I think everybody believes now that he's either going to make his debut against St. John's or he's going to make his debut against St. John's, or he's going to make his debut against Bellarmine, one of those two. My argument here is let's just rip the Band-Aid off. You play St. John's on the 20th,
Starting point is 00:37:38 you play Bellarmine on the 23rd. Those three or four days are not going to make the difference. He's passed every test that he needs to pass. Now he's done his practice. In my mind, I think he's ready to go. I know I'm not a doctor, but I think he's been
Starting point is 00:37:54 cleared or he wouldn't be practicing five-on-five. So what say you, guys, let's play. I agree. This was going to be my next segment, so I'll lead into it right now. I appreciate the call. Drew, Jaden Quentin's, by all indication, it seems like he's going to play against St. John's. I say play him.
Starting point is 00:38:12 We had the guy, the text machine guy say 10 to 12 minutes he guaranteed, 9 to 13 are your money back? I want to see Jaden Quentin. That picture of him, it worked for me. Picture of him, Duncan, in practice that UK put out yesterday. I was like, all right, here we go. Bring him on. Yeah, I saw the clip that came out of him just. going the length of the court that led to that dunk that the photo was out there of.
Starting point is 00:38:34 I agree. Just let him go. I think there's an eternal debate going on right now of putting them on the big stage or letting them come with an easy team. Let's do the top ten pick. Let them loose. You can't lose anymore these non-conference games. You need a win here.
Starting point is 00:38:49 A win here, like we had to beat India. I think we can lose this game, but if we won this game, We're not back on track, but we're kind of close, because I thought go three and three in those games would be like the worst you'd want to do. Two and four is less than that, but it's not terrible. And the conference is easier than we thought it was going to be, probably. So I say throw him out there. Let's see what happens. Why delay the inevitable?
Starting point is 00:39:18 If he is ready to go, been cleared to play and he's practicing, why wait to the Bellarmine game? Throw him out there Saturday and let him, like I said, get nine or ten minutes to get him going for the SEC. And you want to get this fan base excited during the holidays. Throw him out there, have a full game of Jalen Lowe, and then we're good for him. Then we could be like, oh, Drew, maybe I don't even have to think about that game in Nashville against Gonzaga. Let's like that didn't happen. Yeah, I'm down to forget about that. I'd love to forget about it.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Just what we've seen, the small clips that have coming out and the reports and stories you're hearing from behind the scenes is that he's ready to go. I just don't think you wait for a cupcake. Let him lose. See what he has against St. Jones. It's like one of the worst teams in the country. I mean, what does that do? Of course, I'll be dunking on the moon that game. If you need a few more things to finish up your holiday shopping,

Starting point is 00:41:52 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Starting point is 00:43:29 I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney. My only concern is what happens in the... back. The biggest decisions. If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team. And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
Starting point is 00:43:52 The World Cup is almost here. Experience it all with us. Listen, Inside American Soccer with Tom Bogart and Tabramos on the IHeart Radio app, Apple podcast, wherever you get your podcast. Welcome back, Tegu Sports Radio. 9-2-80-2287. One person writes, Adam Silver's Duke alumnus, national media, expect him to choose Cameron Indoor.
Starting point is 00:44:18 I mean, that would make... If you're trying to make the environment good, it would make sense. Now, the thing is, if you have it at Cameron Indoor, are you going to invite the Duke students? Like, is that... You know what I mean? Like, if it's all rich people sitting in the Cameron crazy seats,
Starting point is 00:44:31 then it's not as cool. You're going to have to invite the Duke students, but then, like, how do you know who they're going to cheer for? That's good question. I mean, a big part of what makes Cameron Indoor, the thing is the students there. But if you take those guys out, well, then it just looks like you're in a high school arena, right? Yeah, I wish there a way to get crazies for whatever teams show up, but that'd be impossible to coordinate, you know, not knowing who would be. And then what are you going to say to students?
Starting point is 00:44:56 All right, all of you are rooting for. You all like this team. You guys are all choosing San Antonio. So I guess they, though, could get a team that has a Duke guy, and then maybe they would cheer like that. I understand. I think objectively, Duke would make a lot of sense for the first one. But I do think if I'm being objective, my second choice would be rough. People have mentioned the Yom Center.
Starting point is 00:45:19 I love Louisville. I think Louisville should have an NBA team. But I don't know that if you're trying to get a college atmosphere feel, I don't know if you get that at the Yom Center, which is more like a pro arena in some respects. They don't go to their own games there. I know I can't talk trash because they beat us. They don't even get their own games.
Starting point is 00:45:36 That would be hard. I didn't know he was a Duke alumnus. That kind of makes me think he'll probably at least go there for the first year, maybe we're up to second years, kind of rotated around or something. I saw a stat and I wanted your opinion on it. 36% of Americans say that kids should not be left home alone for an hour until they are at least 14 years old. I saw that stat, and that struck me as way high.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Like I would think, and again, you're talking to someone that does not have a child, But I would think you could leave a kid home alone at 11, 12, for like an hour, not overnight, not for a week, but like for an hour to go to the grocery or something. You've been a parent, you're going to be a parent, Drew. What's the age that you think you could say, okay, I can leave my kid for an hour? I was going to say 10 because I feel like I'm trying to go back in it. When my boys were 10, they could take care of themselves at least for an hour, maybe a little more than that, but I wouldn't go much higher than 10 years old.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Okay. I was actually going to say 13 before you said the number when I was figuring where you were headed. I mean, I'm trying to think what my parents. I think my parents probably left me alone. 11, 12. I'm just guessing 11 or 12, something like that. Because, you know, 13, 14 years old, you're in middle school. You're a seventh grader or eighth grader.
Starting point is 00:47:05 14, yeah, you're like. almost in high school. So you should be able to take care of yourself at that age. 10, you're talking about maybe a fourth grader or fifth grader. 15% of Americans said not until they're 16. That seems extreme. That feels like we're having some coddled children at that point, right? I mean, 16 you can drive.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Yeah, that's a little bit of a sheltered life right there. I'm going down about your fifth grade age. I think you're about the end of the age. You can maybe leave them along for. Fifth grade. Yeah. So what age is that? I don't know grades and ages.
Starting point is 00:47:35 10? Okay. Yeah, fifth grade feels about right. Yeah, I think about... For me, I think about 12 Phil's about right. Yeah. Maybe 13, but I think a 12-year-old could hang out for an hour. Let me ask you, when you...
Starting point is 00:47:46 We're not leaving them there all day long, just an hour. When you left your kid for the first time by themselves, were you nervous? Yeah. Especially, like, if we're on the road with you guys and maybe my wife at the time was working and I'm not there, so the kids are home by themselves for a little bit. Literally the very first time. Do you remember that? Like the first time you drop them off at daycare, I remember I cried.
Starting point is 00:48:11 You did? Yes. No doubt. Interesting. The only time I felt something like that is like the first time I parked my car. You cried? You cried. I didn't cry.
Starting point is 00:48:26 But you know when you buy a new car and you pull it out of the parking lot. You don't ever think about wrecking, but when you buy a new car, when you first pull that parking light you're like oh then you park it and you're like all right keep it away from all these with cars it's exactly like this i mean i'm not saying it's the exact same thing children probably a little bit different but that's the only thing i can relate it to but there's a you know a part of me when they get age 10 or so you got to start teaching them some life skills and so maybe you know what are the life skills you taught them karate uh sure yeah you know taking care of yourself if you're hungry make yourself a peanut butter and jell
Starting point is 00:49:04 sandwich, you know, figure it out. See, that's why Myron wants to use those catchphrase. It's because that's the first thing you teach him. That was a funny segment, though. That was really funny. Stuck together like peanut butter and jelly. Because they were so horrible. I hope. The thing is, he
Starting point is 00:49:22 means it. Yes. Like Shannon play his catchphrase from the one game? Oh, I'd have to pull it up here, but yeah. Yeah, pull it up. I heard it yesterday, Monday. I mean, he is so serious. He wants to use those. And I hope he does. He really believes he should be a catchphrase guy.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Tell your friends about me. I think you should encourage that behavior. You definitely should. Yes. I have meetings today with the Southern Miss and Western Kentucky Sports Information Directors to learn about the teams. Very good.
Starting point is 00:49:55 He did not like your idea of taking calls, though, during the game I'm around. He was going to get them. More importantly, we are taking calls. Does your producer know you want to take calls? learn in the meeting. Wow. We are taking calls. You're supposed to be doing the call.
Starting point is 00:50:11 You're going to change the game. Yeah, they are. Matt's up next. We are taking calls. Who's next? Matt. Matt, go ahead, Matt. Yes, a couple weeks ago, you was talking about raceland football team.
Starting point is 00:50:24 Okay. And I couldn't get through. In 1924, Jack King built a racetrack, and they renamed the community, Raceland. And when he set that down, he moved to Lexington and built Keenland. Yep. So you're telling me a guy built a racetrack and they named the town Raceland and then he just left town. He was there four years.
Starting point is 00:50:50 Wow. And then he rebuilt. He built Keenland. And Keenlin is a non-for-profit place. Yeah. And their profit goes to children's charities. Yeah. I did know that.
Starting point is 00:51:05 That's interesting, though, that you can just come to town and build something, and then the town will change the name, right? The original Keenland was at Raceland, and now it's a golf driving range. Appreciate the call. Oh, was that right? That was the original Keenland. The original Keenland is now a driving range and racing. I didn't know he changed the name to the town to Raceland, but he built the first Keenland there in Raceland.
Starting point is 00:51:23 Huh. I wonder what the people thought. You changed our name, and then you left town. Scoundrel. Turned to the talk, golf. Interesting. Well, there you go. Thank you, sir. I did not know that.
Starting point is 00:51:35 We will take a break and come back. Hour number two. We're here at KS. Bar & Grill. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy.
