people coming in for lunch.
You're ready to go.
Remember the volleyball,
watch party.
Game starts at 9 o'clock, so it's a late one.
You folks are going to stay up back there?
You're going to be able to stay awake tonight for the game.
Sir, why are you shaking your head?
You're a senior citizen,
but sometimes even senior citizens
got to let their hair down and party.
And tonight with UK Wisconsin would be one of.
Nick Rouse gave me a fact.
I want you to read you, Nick Roush's fact.
Fun fact.
fact.
Craig Skinner, U.K.'s volleyball coach, and Wisconsin's coached Kelly Sheffield once coached a team
together.
Would you like to know what the team was?
Yes.
The undefeated Muncie, Indiana, JV. Volleyball team in 1990.
Wow.
Two coaches coaching in the final four coached a JV volleyball team together in 1990.
How about that for a crazy fact?
I love that.
JV. Volleyball doesn't get near enough exposure on our show.
now we're going to talk about that's got no exposure over the year that undefeated season back in
1990 and muncie indiana yes that school's got to put something up to recognize this match tonight you would
think so that's saying that they're on the same jv coaching staff and made it that far all right let's do
quickly a couple of little small topics duck gotley remember when he took the coaching job at green bay
he said i'm going to keep doing my afternoon radio show and i'm going to coach the team he's done that for a year
Last year his team stunk.
This year his team stinks, and today he announced he was quitting the afternoon radio show.
Shannon, you and I called this one a long time ago.
There was no way he was going to be able to do both, and he has not been able to do both,
and now he's having to quit the radio show.
He had too much going on, but you know what?
They were 4 and 28 last year.
They're 6 and 7 this year, so there's a little bit of improvement.
He has got a little better.
And he shows up slightly soused on the field of 68 sometimes on Saturday night, so it worked.
Yeah, we knew this was coming.
I thought maybe he might try to make it through this year
because he thought he would have done in the off season after last year.
But, yeah, it's clearly six and seven not going well.
He needs time to have his fill to 68 appearances as well.
We knew this was ridiculous trying to do an afternoon radio show and coach your basketball.
When are you going to practice in the afternoon probably?
What are you doing?
Well, I got a radio show to do.
It's just ridiculous.
What if a recruit calls?
He's busy talking about Packers' Bears.
Yeah, listen, he could call the radio show.
I would say, hey, coach, what time for practice?
All right.
Yet last night was historic night.
The tallest player to ever score a point in the history of college of basketball scored.
Oliver Roo, who plays for the Florida Gators, he got a breakaway dunk last night, and
it's 7 foot 9 becomes the tallest player to ever score a game in regulation, a point
in regulation at Florida.
Do you like the 7 foot 9 player?
I do.
when they were here last year, I made a point to go just stand as closely as I could.
I could get all the way up on him because he's on the court,
but I got close enough to know just it is insane how tall that man is.
He doesn't even need to jump whatsoever to dunk.
I guess they can't play him much with those legs.
He just can't get around.
Are you surprised he finally got a bucket?
Are you surprised he doesn't play ever?
Like you would think a guy 7-9.
First of all, Florida won the national championship, so they may not need him.
But if I was him, there's got to be a college he can play at.
Right?
There has to be somewhere that he could play basketball at 7 foot 9.
Yeah, what if he went to a place like EKU?
Well, let me ask you, if he went to EKU, do you think he would start for EKU?
I don't if he'd start, but he would definitely get more minutes.
Like Drew said, it's hard for him to run it down the floor.
He's 7 foot 9.
I mean, I'm watching him run down the floor.
He looks like he's doing pretty good to me.
Yeah, that's what I think, too.
It's not like he's like handicapped in any way.
Like he runs up and down.
He's slow.
How is he not the greatest college basketball player of all the time?
Just throw the ball up in the air and let him catch it.
Well, that's another thing.
Why don't you?
Like Shannon's, why don't you just throw it high in the air?
Like, he's going to be the first to get it.
I understand why it doesn't work in the SEC because guys can jump.
But if you went and played at Eastern, you're telling me he couldn't score at Eastern.
Yeah, that conference, their big guys are a little small.
than the big guys are like six foot seven so you could just
the room is two foot from his head and that's not even counting his arms in the air
yeah i mean his arms in the air he can he can commit goaltending without jumping
yeah so i don't know drew i feel like i mean he's at florida so i can understand why he
doesn't play at florida but i'd like to see what happened if he played at eastern yes you just
can't convince me that that kid could not be effective
I mean, Zach Eadie is like 7-4.
Now, granted, Zach Edie's got good footwork,
but he scores with ease in the NBA.
So you're telling me the 7-9 guy can't score against Moorhead?
I think he could.
It would just be how much is he hurting you on the other end?
By the time he gets halfway back down the court on those knees getting up and down,
he's not quick at all.
I think he would have to stand just underneath the goal on both ends.
But I think it could work for a little while in doses.
If you were playing against somebody that made it a half-court game,
where he's got time to kind of get down the court and just get in the lane
and just clog up the lane on defense.
I mean, I'm watching this play.
He dunks.
He's back on defense.
I'm with you, Shannon.
I feel like Oliver Rue needs to.
I mean, I'm not giving him enough credit.
He won a national.
First of all, he has a national title ring, right?
So he's already got a great thing.
I want to see him enter the portal and go play somewhere where he plays.
Because I am just, I feel like he's.
has to be able to play a little bit where did taco fall play tucko fall was good wasn't it
central florida i mean remember taco fall kind of dominated duke in the tournament that year they
should have beat them the zion team do you remember that i remember that taco fall was balling against
duke yeah he's a good example it's a great example dominated that kind of that level but yes
able to succeed against bigger schools i don't know i want to see i want to see i'm pulling for him all right
So this story I like a lot.
Chris Paul, you know, one of the legendary point guards of all time, he got kind of cut by the Clippers.
This was supposed to be his last year and now, like, his ending tour is gone.
They're hoping to find, he's hoping to find another team.
But a story came out as to why it ended with the Clippers.
People were a little surprised.
Like, Clippers aren't even good.
Why can't he just finish the year?
Well, it turns out he threw a Halloween party and he invited his teammates and none of the
came to his Halloween party.
Sounds like my friends.
Yeah, so no one came to, well, first of all, you don't invite us.
I would come to your party.
You don't invite us.
Probably not, but I would think about it.
But no one came to his Halloween party, and apparently he made him mad, and that started
the process of him no longer being on the team.
Now, I'm not trying to disparage Chris Paul, but that man is 40 years old, right?
he's been the former president of the Players Association.
So he has been a leader in the NBA.
Don't you feel like it's a little bit of an overreaction
to having a Christmas party and people not coming?
Or is it really rude for this legendary guy on your team
to not come to his Christmas part?
Or excuse me, his Halloween party.
I don't know.
It seems Chris Paul isn't the most loved guy in the league.
I saw somebody compared him to Chevy Chase.
recently.
He's successful.
He considered one of the greats,
but he's not really well-liked by his peers.
I thought that was a mean comparison.
I just saw that this week.
So I think it just says a lot more of how he's liked
when he's not playing basketball.
But if you're playing on a basketball team
and your teammate throws a Halloween party,
do you at least have an obligation to stop by?
I think you can just tell him no.
Like, dude, I see you.
I was lifting weights with you at 6 a.m.
We have a game tomorrow.
I don't need to see you at a Halloween party.
Okay.
I think the fact that not one teammate showed up
is very telling what they think about him in that locker room.
Not one.
At least one guy, he's got a buddy in the locker.
He must not have you friends respected by anybody for anybody.
But don't you feel bad for him?
He's sitting there at home like at his Halloween party.
He's dressed.
Yeah, he's dressed as Dracula.
And he's sitting in his house and he's like, when are they coming?
Where is everybody?
He's holding a bowl full of candy.
Yeah, he's got candy.
like they're playing monster mash in the background and then no one walks in.
He's got a table out with cupcakes you made.
Oh, okay, now I'm starting to feel bad for Chris Paul.
I feel bad for him.
You know, I've always, you mentioned Chevy Chase.
I've always heard that story, and it has always made me sad.
What's the story?
He's a jerk off camera.
No, so Chevy Chase, they were doing the roast of Chevy Chase for Comedy Central.
And he agreed to do the roast because he was like, oh, this will be awesome.
all my friends that I was in the comedy world with,
they will come and,
because they don't tell you who's going to be there.
They will come and do the roast with me,
and it'll be awesome,
and it'll be exciting.
And then all of a sudden he gets there,
and none of his friends came,
and it's all strangers,
and they just destroy him.
And apparently when it was over,
the magazine article says he just goes home and cries,
because he expected,
like, Bill Murray and all these people to come,
and no one came.
And instead, these young people were just like, you're a jerk.
And the story, it's really sad.
It's like an Esquire story.
He goes up to the hotel room when it's over and sits by himself and just cries all night.
Now, I know people say Chevy Chase is a jerk, but every time I think of Chevy Chase, I hear that story, and it makes me sad.
He may be the worst jerk, but that's still sad.
The roast are supposed to be your friends just kind of getting their digs in on y'all in good fun,
but they just teed off on him, and they were like complete strangers to him.
And they were strangers.
And so, like, he just had to sit there and watch all these straight.
Like, when you all roasted me, it was my friends roasting me.
This was a group of strangers because his friends would not come.
Well, moral of the story, don't be a jerk.
I know, but I still felt sorry for it.
That story has always bothered me.
Does it bother you at all?
I've seen that story.
I read that story, so it makes me a little sad for him.
But, like Shannon said, man, be careful on your way up because you're going to see him on your way back down.
Yeah, I guess.
I just feel bad.
Who's next?
Will.
Will.
Go ahead, Will.
Hey, good morning, fellas.
Good morning.
Day off like Shannon suggested.
So I had a few takes I wanted to get off.
But I was wanting to call in and say, all on the watchtower is the best cover of all time yesterday.
Oh, that's a good one.
That's a good one.
I don't know if that was mentioned.
I don't know if that was mentioned.
But really was intrigued by your guy's conversation about the NBA earlier in the game, possibly coming to Rupp, I had no idea about that.
that. But I also wanted to get your guys' thoughts on expansion, and I'll kind of just, you know,
leave it at that and think if we get this game at Rupp Arena, a team might come to this area
since the county Louisville or Lexington. So he was also asked by that, about that. He was asked about
expansion. Appreciate the call. And he said they're going to decide it next year, and it would
basically, he acknowledged if they did it, it would be Las Vegas and Seattle. So it would not be Louisville.
So Louisville kind of once again getting turned down. I think the, the first of the
problem for Louisville is they're probably one or two major corporate sponsors short.
Right?
They have UPS.
They have like Ford is there and a couple.
They need like one more.
And as I understand it, they just, they don't feel like they have that.
And so, and then Memphis has been an example.
Like Memphis had a team pretty much just because of FedEx.
And now it's not really doing well.
And they're kind of stuck there.
and they don't want to have a second situation like Memphis.
So, Drew, I just think we're probably not going to end up getting one,
which is a shame because I actually think Louisville could support an NBA team.
But then again, their attendance at the U.S.
games doesn't help the cause either because no one's going to the U.S. game.
Yeah, it would work if the Louisville and Kentucky fan bases came together
and supported the team, which I think they would.
Selfishly, I would love for it to be there.
I would be all in on whatever the team was.
And just think if we lucked into drafting a guy out of Kentucky
or getting one that's already in the league to play for them.
I mean, it would be awesome around here.
Yeah, but I don't suspect it would happen.
But I would love it.
It would be awesome.
It was a time, like before COVID or every time there was expansion
and it was talked about,
Louisville was like in the top two, top three every time.
I've been told that there was like eight or ten years ago,
the Grizzlies were very close to move into Louisville.
But then FedEx was like,
we're not losing the team to UPS.
And so they end up, you know, keeping.
it there and that was the rest is history.
But I think it could work, but I think it's unlikely to happen.

Will Wade, the coach of NC State,
gave a quote yesterday.
He was talking about his team's toughness and what's important to him.
And he said, quote, we have a 3.0 GPA.
That's wonderful if we were running a daycare.
But we run a competitive basketball program and we've got a lot of casual personalities on the team.
I don't totally understand what that means.
I guess does he not want them to get good grades?
Does he want them to have a better than a 3-0?
Like the quote is, we have a 3.0 GPA that's wonderful if we run a daycare, but we're a competitive basketball program.
What do you think that means?
Sounds like they're focusing too much on school.
Is he implying that if you have a GPA of 3-0 or higher, you can't be competitive and you can't be tough?
Is that what he's implying?
He's implying something like that.
It's kind of how I take it.
Yeah.
They're studying too much.
You two are too smart.
Brines me the famous Mark Stoops.
I know that's what you're thinking.
Yeah, I didn't have you go say it.
I don't know.
Is it time to say that quote or not?
I mean, he's not the coach anymore.
Okay.
Can we say that, Drew?
It's all you.
No, no, no, no, no, you can't put it on me.
You can't put it on me.
You have to be part of it.
Ryan has, you know what?
We'll let this skip.
One day.
Yeah.
Not to do.
I would vote no.
Sorry, sorry, listeners.
Yeah.
Well, give it a year because it's a great quote.
8-9-2-80-2287.
One person writes, Matt, with Jaden Quaintance for the rest of the year,
and let's say he plays well, what's our seed in the tournament.
Let's say Jaden Quaintance is good.
And let's say Jalen Lowe stays healthy.
So let me put those two caveats, because I think those are two big caveats.
Jalen Quatance is good.
Jalen Lowe stays healthy.
What's our seed in the tournament?
Understanding that we've already lost four games.
They say they don't factor in injuries,
but if Quayton's and Lowe were to be at full strength
and Kentucky look really good,
I think they would consider that a little bit.
I'll say a four seed.
Right now they're a nine,
at least if you believe the bracketologies.
So I'll say four.
I think you're right about that, by the way,
that if that happens and we're good,
they'll factor in the fact that we didn't have those guys at the beginning.
There could be like two of your best players,
not playing out with them.
I'm going to say you could get all the way up to a three if that happens,
if your scenario.
Now, if he's just okay and lows in and out, then I think you're looking at like a 6-7.
No, he did it.
I didn't mean to do that.
Sorry, I couldn't help him.
I didn't mean to do that.
I see y'all laughing over there.
What do you think?
Yeah, those four losses are going to factor in, but you're right.
If they play the way we think they're going to play and they stay healthy, they can get in that 3-4 range for sure.
The North Carolina loss is going to be the one that sticks.
It matters.
The Michigan State, Gonzaga margin matters, but the Michigan State, Gonzaga and Louisville on the road,
those are losses you can take.
But that North Carolina at home loss, that's going to be one that sticks, I think.
I mean, we were talking before the year how good the home schedule is,
and you really don't need to give up more than one game at home, maybe to Florida all year,
and you go and lose your first big test at home.
That one's going to haunt them.
That one's going to.
And the way you've led the whole game until the drought at the end.
We have a basketball team here.
They're from Birmingham, Alabama.
They're here to play Frankfurt tonight in basketball.
They said they heard this was the spot, so they're a big, big team over there.
Pre-game meal at KS Bar and Grill.
I like to root for out-of-state teams against Frankfurt, but I haven't seen Frankfurt here.
We're the Frankfurt Panthers.
They're not here today.
So I'm going to have to take them against Frankfurt tonight.
Who's next?
Mark.
Mark, go ahead, Mark.
Hey, guys, how you doing this morning?
Doing good.
By the way, I'm a fellow Middlesbrough alumni.
I graduated in 1979.
We'll go Jackets.
And I'm like everybody else.
I'm concerned about the basketball program.
You know, we're nationally being made fun of for the money that we spent in the transfer portal.
And then recruiting-wise, we're being made fun of.
And my question is, at what point does Mark Pope or someone go to JMI and say,
look guys, we've got to change this.
We can't get any players.
Well, we'll see.
I think it's going to depend on what happens with these recruits this year.
I appreciate to call.
I mean, Drew, I think this is all going to be evaluated based on a couple things.
We talked about this.
If they get Stokes and Collins, then none of this will matter.
All this conversation, while interesting, will ultimately not make a big difference.
Even if they don't get them, if they clean up in the portal, like really,
get all their top targets, that might be okay, right?
But if you don't get the high school guys, you don't clean up in the portal,
then I don't think there's any doubt that changes will have to be made because fans will demand it.
And by the way, we won't be good next year.
Like, ultimately this all comes down to we got to be good next year because I think,
unless we go on a crazy run here, fans are going to demand success from Pope next year.
I generally think coaches get three years unless it's a disaster.
So he'll get a third year and it'll need to be good.
And I would love for them to shut everybody up and go get Stokes or Collins
because it really stinks knowing there's so many reports out there
about how it was pretty much done and just got to the final closing table
and couldn't finish there.
I mean, if they end up with not of them,
I think it's a direct reflection of how unorganized things are,
maybe the contract situation's too much.
So please get one of them because there's not,
any one left.
There's not a backup plan.
Kentucky will probably not have a top 50 recruit in this class.
And however Pope finishes the year, the recruiting concerns will just carry
on to the spring.
And that stuff snowballs because next year's kids are like, well, why didn't anybody want to go
there?
Exactly.
And then there's a couple issues.
One, Pope has not gotten in his entire career a top 40 player not from the state.
If you go another year without doing that.
and then the other player thing is Pope has not had a first round draft pick.
And so every year that goes on, the chances of you signing one of the top 40,
and then getting a guy who can be a first round draft pick is more.
Now, Jaden Quaintiffs might be that first round draft pick.
That's why in part we need him to really be good for this team,
but also to show, hey, I'm Mark Pope.
I can make a guy go to the NBA.
That I think helps as well.
We've talked a lot about it.
It's the perception of it as much as bringing that kid on campus.
It's the perception you have the ability to land a top recruit like that.
And I think he's going to be the only guy Mark's coached at Kentucky
that we're going to look on the floor and go, oh.
Okay, that's a different kind of athlete.
That's a Cal athlete.
This will be the only one of these guys.
We have not had that in these two years.
We've had some great college players, but we haven't had that.
That kind of, okay, I know what that is.
And if that's what he is, he better be playing a lot of.
of minutes.
Like, I don't want to see he gets 27 and Garrison gets eight and Marino.
No, none of that.
If he is truly a top 10 player, you play him as much as he can absolutely take.
Well, one of the things those agents that were quoted in the story said is these top
dudes don't want to play 20 minutes.
Right.
They want to play 30 to 35 minutes.
Pope's got to show he's willing to do that.
Right?
And I think that is also, that's a big part of this.
859-280-2287.
Take a break.
Be right back.
KSR.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back.
This would be, you know, top 25 songs for me.
I think this would be in there.
Shannon, that would be on my, if I was doing a double disc, right?
I know you love some petty.
Did you ever put out your, weren't you going to do like your top 100 songs?
Did you ever do that?
I'm trying to remember.
I don't think you did it.
I need to do it in the summer because we'd spend a lot of time talking about them.
But I'd like to do that.
I'd like to rank my top 100 and do the thing where you can only have one from each artist.
Oh, that would make a tip.
Oh, can I give you quickly?
I won't do this long, but do you quickly one more trivia from last night.
All right.
So Spotify's existed since 2012.
I saw the list of top 500 streamed artists on Spotify.
Now, not surprisingly, most of them are recent because people stream new music, right?
So I looked at the top 80, Ryan.
I want to see if you follow it.
Okay.
And there were only 12 artists in the top 80, whose first album came out before 2005.
Do you understand why?
Because people listen to modern artists.
They don't listen to older artists.
So of the top 80 streamed them artists of all time, only 12, their first album came out before
2005. So like Taylor Swift came out in 2006. Drake came out in 2005. Rihanna came out in 2005.
So who are the 12 top artists that have been streamed on Spotify, whose album, first album came out
before 2005? So you got to think about who are artists that are older, but that are still
listened to today by people. I got one guess. What's your guess? Beyonce.
Beyonce is one of them. So Shannon gets one. So Shannon gets one.
Britney Spears?
Brittany Spears was oddly not on it.
Oh, wow.
I don't think that's a bad guess, but not on it.
Every time you ask a streaming question, I always guess bad bunny, but he probably is a
afternoon out after 2005.
There's a lot of them that came after 2005.
I don't think Drake goes that far back.
Well, I said, he was 2005.
Oh, you did say.
Jay Z?
There's two of them.
Shannon and Ryan getting one.
Anybody else?
You all want to guess?
Feel free to jump in.
Sir, you got the one a minute ago.
about the president.
Mariah Carey, good guess.
She was like 100th, but that's a good guess, sir.
Is Rihanna on there?
Rihanna was 2005, like I said.
Who?
Journey, no.
Journey, no. Journey not on there.
M&M. Well done.
Nice job. M&M. So that's three of the 12.
Good one.
Garth Brooks.
Garth Brooks.
So he's not on Spotify.
He's not on Spotify.
That's exactly right.
So he would be on there except he's not on Spotify.
Anybody want to be one more guess before I give the answers?
Number one is Kanye West, who came out in 2002.
Yeah.
Then it was M&M, Coldplay, Lil Wayne, Maroon 5.
I almost said them.
Why didn't you?
I thought it was a ridiculous guess.
It was not a ridiculous guess.
Ridiculously right.
Beyonce, Shakira,
Justin Timberlake
Oh yeah
Jay Z Tupac
And then two old bands
Sheen and I was shocked
One of them's the Beatles
That's not shocking
Yeah
But how about Queen
Did you know that people
Still listen to Queen like that?
I try to not play Queen every afternoon
You're making a big mistake
I guess I should play more Queen
But did you know that like kids listen to Queen
When did that movie come out
That's the answer
right there.
You know what,
Drew, that's the answer.
That movie,
Bohemian Rhapsody.
That's a good call.
And I think they've got some TikTok.
They go viral on TikTok with a couple of songs, too.
When I saw Queen last night,
I was like,
why is Queen on it?
You're exactly right.
That's because of that movie.
Good call.
Who's next?
Let's go to Chris.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Hey, guys.
Number one, excited about coming to watch
the volleyball team tonight at your place.
Number two, Queen, we will rock you, is consistent with high school sports teams, man.
They still rock that.
That's true.
They probably play them in games a lot.
That's a good call, yep.
And then number three, as a girl dad, I got a 90-year-old girl, and I'm going to throw in a counterfeit on that.
They shouldn't be alone until 14 years old.
That's when I'm not leaving her alone, bro.
Once puberty is it.
That's true.
That's a good call.
That's a good call.
I appreciate.
May Christmas, guys.
May Christmas.
I hope you bring your daughter tonight.
I think it's always cool when we do these women's sports events.
There's always a lot of young girls here cheering it on.
That's cool when we did the soccer team that one point, the women's soccer team as well.
I appreciate the call.
I have an idea, by the way.
Have I said on here the idea I have for the World Cup this year?
I don't think so.
I don't think you said anything about it.
We're talking about this, hubby and I.
I want to know if you think this is a good idea.
During the World Cup, you know, that's a very slow time at the bar during June and July.
So we're trying to figure out how do you get some business, how you do it?
We thought that every day we would pick a team that's playing and invite a local person who cooks food from that country to be the guest chef at the bar that day.
I love it.
So if, like, Argentina played, we would have someone here.
who cooks food from Argentina, and that day we would serve Argentina food here.
Invite people who have food trucks and stuff and, like, give a taste of various foods.
Do you like that idea?
Love that idea.
Have some specials that day, particular to that country.
I love it.
And pick a country every day of the World Cup that is playing that day.
Yeah, we'll just embrace all their culture.
It best we can here.
I love it.
And we bring somebody in, and it also gives a spotlight to somebody that has, like, a food truck,
or maybe a small restaurant in town or something like that.
I like that a lot.
Like we have that there's a Haitian restaurant right next to here.
So we're talking about when Haiti plays because they made it,
that they can cook some of their food here.
Maybe fans of that team will come that day.
Or just if you want to try the food.
I want to try the food.
What do you think?
I love it.
That's a great idea.
Proud of you.
Well, we haven't done it yet.
No, you've got to do it now.
We've got to find the people.
By the way, a couple other bands that were close but not on the list.
Michael Jackson was very close.
He was like, you would think he'd be higher, but he was like 85.
Fleetwood Mac.
Fleetwood Mac was surprisingly very high.
There's still a thing to hold up today.
The TikTok guy skateboarding?
Maybe the TikTok.
I'm not, you might be right.
The TikTok guy skateboarding and what was that song he was playing?
Dreams.
Dreams.
Yeah.
Maybe.
You know.
It's amazing how songs can go viral on TikTok or in a movie and they come all the way back.
I find a whole new generation.
I will tell you what made me crazy was seeing there were people ahead of the Beatles
that I'd never heard of.
Like one spot ahead of the Beatles was someone named Daddy Yankee.
Who's that?
He's a legend.
Who's Daddy Yankee?
And how is he head of the Beatles?
I probably wouldn't put him ahead of the Beatles on my list, but he's got a big following.
Who is he?
He's like a rapper.
He's been around a long time.
Daddy,
first of all,
I ain't
calling somebody
Daddy Yakey.
Who's next?
Free bird.
Free bird.
Go ahead.
Hey, guys.
Glad everybody's back
and Merry Christmas.
Matt,
I've called the pre-show
and got Shannon's take
on this and Mario's.
About,
I know we're having
JMI stuff here.
Do you think
or do you know
any knowledge
of any of these
other schools
are having issues
like this?
Well, as I understand it, and again, I don't fully understand it, and I'm trying to understand it a little more,
but as I understand it, the contract that we're doing is just different than the other ones,
and that's why this is happening.
And again, I think it's an issue that really affects elite basketball players.
I don't think it affects average players.
I don't think it affects football players.
I think it's an issue for elite basketball players.
Let's use the example of Christian Collins.
He signs with Crocs.
Okay, Crox is not an official partner of U.K. athletics
because it's a huge national company.
Your average offensive linemen is not going to have a chance to sign with Crocs.
So I think it actually affects just kind of elite college basketball play.
Yeah, it actually works out really well for Olympic sports.
Like volleyball, I'm sure they're getting things they would normally get.
I see the Clark's Pump and Shop commercials.
But a guy like Stokes, who's going to have a mega Nike deal,
I mean, he's got a lot more options than just about anybody else in his position.
And it probably has an impact.
I appreciate the call on, like, elite quarterbacks.
Like if we had Diego Pavia, it would make a difference.
But we haven't had a Diego Pavia, so it hasn't made a difference yet.
I want to ask a question.
The guy asked me.
So let's just use that example, Collins and Crocs.
He comes here to Kentucky, and the Crocs want to do a national ad campaign with him.
He can't wear anything in Kentucky.
Crox demands he wears red and black in the commercial.
I don't think it's the demand he wearing red and black.
Again, I want to make sure this is true.
I'm trying to, I want to talk to them to make sure, as I understand it,
if you sign the deal with JMI, which guarantees you the money,
which is what these players all want, like a guaranteed amount of money,
if Crox wants to do an ad with Collins, they will have to,
as I understand it, go through JMI.
Now, if Collins wants to come to UK and not sign with JMI,
he's free to go do whatever he wants,
but then he's not guaranteed the money.
So the issue is, can we come to a system
where he signs with JMI to be guaranteed the money,
but he can also separate from them sign with Crocs?
And as I understand it,
he's free to sign with Crocs and come to UK,
but then he won't get the guaranteed money.
Yeah.
And that, I think, is the Rupp, as I understand.
But I want to, if that's wrong, I want to know that,
because I want to make sure,
because when you hear Mitch say it,
he says correctly that you can do your own thing,
but he's yet to say that you could do your own thing
and still also signed with JMI,
and so I don't know the answer to that question.
Did you see the cryptic message, Collins, put out with his,
it says, if you see me with a deal, you know I made that decision?
Is that like a shot of like, I'm going to do this on my own?
I didn't like that comment.
And, you know, I don't know that that was a shot at J.M.
Kentucky.
It makes me worried about it, but we don't.
But again, it's hard to know.
Like, I don't really know,
because I don't know that it's been, at least to me yet, clear.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.

Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different.

Absolutely.

We're in the middle of a lot of
the game. This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

The World Cup is coming.
I'm Tab Ramos. I'm Tom Boe. On our podcast, Inside American Soccer, you'll get the real storylines.
I'm not worried about Policic. I'm not worried about Balligan. I'm not worried about McKinney.
My only concern is what happens in the back. The biggest decisions.
If you're going to look at stats and numbers, he has no shot at making this World Cup team.
And the truth about the U.S. national team. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if our team, if our
team ends up in the quarterfinals or potentially a great run into the semifinals.
The World Cup is almost here.

Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio.
Text Machine, 772-7525-4.1 person writes, Matt, do you think Mark Pope
can continue coaching?
coaching this team effectively with his voice strained in him not being able to yell.
It's got to be hard, though.
I mean, I'm sure he can do it, but it's got to be hard.
You guys better do what I say.
But like they say, he said a month, didn't he?
He's got to get that figured out.
You're a head coach, Kentucky.
You're going to do some yelling, and it's not going away anytime soon.
I mean, that must be really strained vocal cords.
I mean, I've lost my voice before, and it's like two, three, four days, and it's back.
But he's been like that for a while.
Apparently it all stemmed from, like, the Michigan State game up in New York.
The one thing that helps that is rest, and he has zero time to rest that voice right now, coaching a basketball team.
But how could you scream so much in one game that you lose your voice for two months?
And we were watching him in that game.
I don't remember a lot of screaming.
That was one of the staring off at the space games.
It must have been bad in the locker room.
It must have done it at halftime or after the game.
You know, he got a lot of pushback from the Gonzaga game.
People say we just standing over there with these arms crossed.
Yeah, I don't know what you do.
I mean, there are some coaches, like Cal couldn't do it.
No.
No.
Cal would have physically exploded.
Rick would have been the same way.
By the way, I was on a St. John's, I was on a St. John's podcast last night.
I tweeted it out.
You can watch it.
And we previewed the game, learned a lot of stuff about the St. John's team we're playing.
they have a lot of the same issues we do.
They don't have a point guard, and they can't shoot.
And that's been their problem this year.
So we're going to be kind of looking in the mirror,
although we may now have a point guard.
That's true.
But they don't have a point guard,
and they have not been able to shoot.
And like Rick Petit, like Rick Tino's last year's team could shoot.
And they say Bryce Hopkins is against the good teams, been very disappointed.
Yeah, he's called him out publicly.
There's even been some benching.
He's lit a fire under him.
I know that breaks Shannon's heart because that's his boy,
but he's still one I'm worried about having a breakout game
when he sees that logo across the way.
We've already beaten Bryce Hopkins once.
How many times are we supposed to beat Bryce House?
Is this Bryce Hopkins?
Is this his fourth school?
He was in Kentucky, Providence, Georgetown, St. John's?
No, I don't think he ever made it to Georgetown.
It was rumored he was going to go there and he ended up at St. John's.
I think it's just three and five years.
Saw Aaron Bradshaw last night playing for Memphis.
Yeah.
So, yeah, this guy right here.
was just telling me is Penny Hardaway says he is taking his N IL money he is
fining Aaron Bradshaw N IL money every time he doesn't do something I don't think that's legal
I don't think it is either apparently he's having a hard time showing up on time
he charged him $3,000 for being late and then find him $3,000 for something else I've never
heard a college coach is doing that I don't know if you're allowed to do it but I guess you're
a rule is not a rule without a punishment so unless somebody does something
I guess he can do it.
What do you think about finding players for not showing up?
Yeah, those days are just running the stairs and sitting half of basketball.
I guess those days may be over.
Now you're going to take some of your money.
Hurt you a little more.
I feel like Aaron Bradshaw played here in like the 40s.
Like Bryce Hopkins, too.
I mean, Bryce Hopkins, what team was he on?
He was on five years ago.
I mean, which one was he on?
I get confused with all these teams.
Yeah.
So if the COVID team was like B.J. Boston, Terrence Clark, who was the next year's team?
Who were the best players on the team that ended in 22? Was that Oscar's first year?
Yeah, I think that was a Bryce year, too.
So that was Oscar, that was Bryce, severe.
Damien Collins. Topping?
We should know this, but I've blacked the last few years of Kentucky basketball out of my brain.
What?
No, that was the COVID year.
team.
Jacob Toppin, I think, was on that team.
Then the next year was Oscar.
I think Topin was gone.
Tye Tye was in the first Oscar year, right?
And then the second year was-
The second one was Casey Wallace.
Right?
That was the year we lost to.
So the St.
Peter's-Wallis-Littles, Livingston, that group beat Bryce Hopkins.
That's right.
In Providence.
Taiti lost to St. Peters.
Yes, yes, yes.
And then Kaysen and Oscar beat Lost to Kansas State.
Yeah, they beat Bryce Hopkins.
And then the next year is Reed, Rob and all those guys.
Am I right about that?
I think you're right.
Okay.
Those years, they get muddled to me in my head, and I can't keep them all together.
Who's next?
Steve.
Steve.
What's up, Steve?
Hey, guys.
You remember back when Mitch hired Mark Pope, the one question was, can he recruit at a high level?
Yes.
Everybody was, I think for myself, I was a little nervous.
of us about the hire.
And then he had all this success last year.
I really am just at a loss to understand why UK would give JMI so much power.
I mean, recruiting is hard enough when you don't have your hands tied behind your back.
Offense matters.
Results matter.
The coach matters.
This should have already been addressed.
I don't understand why we're still talking about this.
Is this something that you think?
Because I got to say, I disagree with your point that we can afford to miss out on these
two top 10 recruits that were literally.
waiting to sign with UK because I think we needed those guys and a strong
portal plan.
Well, I'm not saying we can afford to.
Don't get me wrong.
We need to get them both, but we definitely need to get one.
In my opinion, we can't strike out on both of them.
So on that, you and I agree.
We've got to get one of these guys.
If I said the opposite, I didn't, I was misspoke.
We've got to get one of those guys.
Have to.
Can Kentucky force Jay to reverse this or take these provisions?
I don't think it's going to be about, thank you guys, I don't think it's going to be about, but we're seeing them, I think everybody's just going to have to do it for the good of, but we'll see. Again, I appreciate the call. I don't mean to put that off, but I actually think a lot's happening over the next week or so, and I want to wait and see how it plays out. Let's do draft kings real quick. Big Thursday night game tonight.
11 and 3, Le Rams, 11 and 3 Seahawks. One of the biggest Thursday night games of the year. Who you got?
Rams, they're rolling. Seattle gets it done at home.
Take the Rams to win on the road.
What do you got, Chandler?
I'm taking Seattle at home.
Big game.
It's maybe one of the best Thursday night games of the year.
We will have it at the bar, but on a secondary TV.
Women's volleyball tonight.
We win, right?
Absolutely.
Win.
Beat Wisconsin.
We owe Wisconsin in the final four.
Nine o'clock.
Get in here and watch on our watch party.
Go to Draft Kings if you want to place a wager.
Thank you all.
Great crowd here today.
Appreciate you coming.
We'll see you later.
