Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:03:22 crowd here this morning already. Rachel just got her picture taken with a couple seven-footers. Shigari Aline should have come by. Could have had the trifective seven-foot. He's around. He's a Lexingtonian. I know it. He's around here somewhere right now. U.K. grad. But tonight we've got... Alumnai. Quiz night at the KS. Bar and Grill, so come on back for that. One of the seven-footers, Willie Colley Stein just got up. Another seven-footer just sat down.
Starting point is 00:03:44 Wukosh Orbzood in the house. And it's been a minute since you've been on the show with us. It has. Thank you for a late-night phone call. Join the tonight's show with the KS crew. You know, sometimes we produce late at night. What are you doing tomorrow? You want to come on the show with me and Drew? You were regular for a while with us, and then I guess life gets in the way, and we haven't heard from you in a minute. Yes, we all get busy with our lives. We run separate directions, but I'm extremely proud of you guys and what you guys have achieved and finally stepped up from those cheap headphones.
Starting point is 00:04:18 No we haven't. That's the same headphones we've done. Yeah, don't jinx us to fall apart here. Yeah, I appreciate you saying you've stepped up. But when you walked in, you're like, how you've been? I'm like, we're literally right where you left us. We're doing the exact same thing we were doing 10 years ago. Now, I know this is going to make Drew and I feel old.
Starting point is 00:04:33 How old is your daughter? My daughter is 12 years old. Oh, my goodness. And six foot tall. Is she six foot tall? Yes, she is. You guys got to come check her out, play volleyball one day. She's a volleyball player, right?
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah. Yes. She, like, playing on the club team, the club circuit. That's the big thing now when you get that age, right? It is. There's a tremendous amount of games there are being played. every single weekend tournaments and the demographic of sports in this country has changed drastically. It has.
Starting point is 00:05:06 You mentioned your daughter in volleyball. I'm sure you've been part of this excitement around here lately. We came up just short, the cats last week, but were you all just dialed into everything like everyone else was around here? A huge fan of Coach Skinner. He was a coach when I was in Kentucky for all four years. He was doing great things back then, so I hope he can make it until my daughter can play for. him. That would be awesome. I'm pushing him. Don't retire.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Yeah. Hang on. Come on, Coach, if you're listening, you heard that. Twelve years old, go recruiter. So where will she play? Where high school will she play for? So she's probably going to go to one of the high schools in Louisville, but you never know. With NIL, if it's reached college, maybe. Look at him. Look at him. It will reach high school, too. Are we here to talk basketball with Wool or get his daughter and a scholarship? I'm not for either one. I just need to know what we're working on here.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I want to be her agent. She's 12 years old and already six-foot, Oh, I want to be her agent. We're going to deal for her. Did she ever consider the basketball path or just volleyball is the craze now? Volleyball and swimming and horses. So we limited it to three. Now, do you still live in the Shelby County area? Yes, yes, I do.
Starting point is 00:06:11 I do. I enjoy it. And who are you working for? You still work for the same people? Yes, I work for a different company. So we oil and gas folks. If you watch Landman, that's some of the things we do. I love Landman.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Yes. I tried to turn it on last night. So you're like the Billy Bob Thornton here locally? No. That's not your role. What's your role in it then? So I do anything from management into sales, so a little bit of everything. I've been in the business for 15 years now, so we keep it interesting, that's for sure.
Starting point is 00:06:42 He still gets to have his fun, though. I know you haven't seen Wu in a while, but occasionally when I'm walking into Kroger Field for a football game, when I'm walking through that front red lot, there's a seven-footer sticking out. I know Wu still tailgates and there's a big part of BBN, even though we haven't had them on air lately yes welcoming I'm welcoming everybody walking into Crogerfield with open open arms and a and a nice meal hopefully right so so you go to a lot of games you go to football and basketball games just football the telegating is just so much fun catching up with the fans get to know the BBN and mingle and you know you can put in
Starting point is 00:07:19 anywhere from 12-hour day to us four-hour there lost the game there's a fun moment I think it was last season back when I was doing my tailgating videos you know going around interviewing and I run into Wu and hadn't seen him in a while. And, you know, part of the theme of the tailgating video is sponsored by country boys. You know, people are having a few beers here and there. Sure, yeah. Well, I see Wu and Wu's not drinking. He's got a Dr. Pepper or something.
Starting point is 00:07:39 I'm like, you know what, Wu, I'm not drinking either. And then we're talking about not drinking. Two minutes later, we have bourbon out on video. We both, like, flipped because we ran into each other. We went from a couple soft drinks before the cats were playing a game to where is the bourbon. So we couldn't help ourselves running to each other out there. I think that was a big thing, too. Well, if you're a football guy, what are your thoughts about our new football
Starting point is 00:07:57 coach. I'm excited. Change is good. I like that the fans and the B. B.N. is getting excited about football again, and we have something to look forward to. Hopefully we play that fast-paced offense. Don't have to wait for
Starting point is 00:08:13 towel signs for a call and two timeouts. That's a football fan. That's a UK football guy right there. He's talking like the guys that wear the radio headsets that have been up in the bleachers for 40 years. Wu knows. He's a part of it. What did you think was what happened to the Mark Stoop's era the last couple of years
Starting point is 00:08:32 then? I think I think you have to be extremely confident in what you do when you coach in any sports in Kentucky and BB and there's tremendous amount of pressure and a lot of times for a lot of coaches change comes sooner or later. I think he gives us 10 year plus and we can't take away from him. did great things. What great he has done. True. And I was there with Coach Smith his last two years. Coach Smith overall done a lot of great things for BBN and for Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:09:09 But a lot of times it's just time for a change. What's it like that you were there for a coaching change when you can kind of fill that pressure from everyone on the outside. Results just aren't what the expectations are. I mean, are you really feeling that within the locker room and around your coach? Every single day. can just change it by coach's demeanor, the coaching stop, everything else involving the goals that the end is near, you know, that the plan is circling the runway.
Starting point is 00:09:40 So I guess I've never talked to you about that. You guys could feel it from Coach Smith from Tubby that he was feeling it. He'd bring that into the locker room which kind of reflected on you guys. You guys could feel that. Yes, and, you know, of course we played in an era when 56, points won the game right so it was it was definitely much different basketball than what it is today and but but the feeling was there we knew something was wrong we we could tell that the administration and the fan base is
Starting point is 00:10:12 not satisfied with losing two games in the row and for example one game yeah very true expectations in Kentucky are are extremely high and I think I want to say you have to have an ego to be able to coach at this level and probably be borderline psychopathic to sustain the type of beating day in and day out from the fans and you guys, the media. Oh, Scott, what are you talking about? We're innocent. We never do anything, man.
Starting point is 00:10:44 We saw it just in the past couple months where, you know, Mark Pope, the honeymoon ended pretty quickly when they lost a couple of those games and kind of look bad in those losses. honeymoon's over, dude. It's time of you to start winning some games. Exactly. You know, one thing I learned when I was here that money doesn't grow on trees, but when it comes to Kentucky basketball,
Starting point is 00:11:04 oh, boy. The Kraft family can choose the next coach quickly. Very quickly. Hopefully we're not doing that for a while. But what did you think early on this season when they were struggling a little bit? I know you're dialed in. You're not just a UK football fan.
Starting point is 00:11:18 You've been watching Pope's guys this year, And it was a rough start to the year, for being fair. Yes, I'm a little bit, it's been 20 years, so I can say it. I'm an OG now. So the game of basketball have changed, but one thing does not change. The whole country enjoy Kentucky basketball losing. Watch the ESPNs and the other networks. They all talk about the struggles that there are teams he's facing.
Starting point is 00:11:46 So a little bit of adversity and the guys, new guys, that haven't been part of, we don't have upper classments anymore, right? Right. We have a 30-year transfer, fifth-year transfer, and a seventh-year freshman out of NBA probably next year, right? So the basketball has landscapes has changed so much. I was, for example, listening to Coach Izzo last night, and I think he expressed his frustration,
Starting point is 00:12:19 and it's more moving towards what I experienced when I was playing in Poland in the club team when you play against grown men. And I think here in the next couple years the school is just going to be optioned. That's one of my questions. Do the guys still got to go to class? You had a 4-0 perfect attendance. I had to because otherwise I had a 5 a.m. workout. You know, I don't know if they go to class.
Starting point is 00:12:48 they may act like they go to class, but they've got all these tutoring sessions available now where they can get their classes come to them, almost. Even if you were showing up for class, so these guys that are at a different school every year, there's no way stuff's transferring and you're actually getting an education
Starting point is 00:13:04 ending with a degree. Especially these players that are doing the every year, the four in four years, there's no chance they have a degree at the end of their four years. That's one of the Calgary's argument was all these transfer year after year, you don't get to graduate, you don't get your degree, Then when you're playing careers over, you have nothing to fall back on.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Not to fall back on and no connection at all. We missed the scholars like Wu. Yes. Who came here for academics first, basketball second. So I think what needs to go up and forward is alumni versus I just played here. Yes. Yeah. And you are a lot of.
Starting point is 00:13:40 I visited here. Yes. You want to categorize the former players. You have their alumni, your Wu's, and your willies who had their whole career. here. And then without using names, just these hodgepods, people that come through one year off, there are a separate category? Yes, yes. We're going to second-day citizens. Well, really good. We're going to get to catch up with you. Woo. Cosh is here. If you want to call and get on board, 859-2-2-287. And we've got a couple callers we've been holding for a while. We want
Starting point is 00:14:06 to get to them. And then we're also going to, I've got a couple of scenarios. I need both you guys takes on. We'll do that and we come back. We've got to make sure Rick's got the dump button ready, too, just in case. Yes. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This This morning, the internet lost its mind. Highlights are trending, opinions are flying, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where Sports Slice comes in. I'm Timbo. Starting point is 00:15:27 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
Starting point is 00:15:44 or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. Starting point is 00:16:07 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levant this plant to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
Starting point is 00:16:46 the largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Life throws hurdles big and small. The question is, how do you conquer them? On Hurtle with Emily Abadi, we sit down with the most inspiring women in sports and wellness.
Starting point is 00:17:16 professional athletes, coaches, and Olympic champions to talk about the challenges that shaped them and the mindset that keeps them going. From the WNBA standout Kate Martin and rising hockey star Layla Edwards. If a boy can do it, I don't see why a girl can't. Like, I've never understood that. Like, it didn't make sense in my brain. It's hard to be in spaces that no one looks like you, but don't ever feel like you don't belong.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Don't let that be the reason you don't do it. An Olympic champs Gabby Thomas and Katie Ledecki. The ability to show a gold medal to someone and have their face light. up and smile. That means the world to me. And that's what motivates me to win more gold medals. At our level, at this scale, like being able to fail in front of the entire world. Like, I can do anything. I can, like, I can do anything. Because resilience isn't just about winning. It's about showing up, even when it's hard. Listen to Hurtle with Emily Abadi on the IHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's
Starting point is 00:18:15 Sports. All right, welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew and Wukosh Orbzud in the house here at KS Bar and Grill. We've got Quiz Night tonight, so coming out and have some fun with that. Also got big news for our listeners down in Florida, so Gary and Orlando, listen up. Cornbread hemp is now coming to the Sunshine State, not just cornbread hemp, but they're shelters, their sleep cummies. All the cornbread hemp, great products are going to be down at the Total Wine and Fresh Market locations all across Florida.
Starting point is 00:18:41 So head to your local, Total Wine and Fresh Market in Florida. Look for the Cornbread Him products. Everyone listening can visit cornbreadhemp.com as well. That's cornbreadhimp.com and the store locator to find the location near us use here in Kentucky. Cornbread hemp, that is the good life. All right, we were just talking about Wu. Did he sign the door? We have a door here, and all the former players that come in sign the door.
Starting point is 00:19:02 And Casey, who's here made the door. Casey did make the door. He made our stage we're sitting on. He did everything here. He built this building. He did build the building. Look at Rachel. That's funny.
Starting point is 00:19:11 But we can't remember if you signed it or not. So we sign it or not. So are you signed it or not a problem. Not a problem. And if you already signed it, sign it again, we can't have a new. Speaking of Wu, I got to tell you, you know, I mentioned my mom's in the hospital. How she doing? Things are going well.
Starting point is 00:19:24 Good. And I bring that up because for many years, we had the KSR Christmas party. Yeah. And it would end with Wu FaceTiming my mom. And we couldn't get them off the film. It would be like a 45-minute conversation. It was supposed to be a quick Merry Christmas. Those to, they would miss half the dinner because he's talking to my mom.
Starting point is 00:19:41 So they have like this Christmas friendship. But just the other day on Christmas, I'm checking on her. You know, she's got a lot going on. on some medication. She's in the hospital, and she's like, do you all still have the Christmas party? I miss hearing from what? She's listening now.
Starting point is 00:19:53 So this will be your annual Christmas conversation, even though you've taken a few years off. But she wanted me to make sure that you know how much she misses those long talks. Still don't know what you all would talk about. Concerns me a little bit. That was her favorite part of Christmas. Now, she's awesome.
Starting point is 00:20:09 You've got a wonderful mom. I hope she's going to do better and return home. Of course. here shortly before the end of this year, hopefully. Well, we don't play favorites, but you're a favorite, so glad to have you on here so she can hear it. I sat by one of those Christmas parties, and he said, let's drink for drink, you and me. I couldn't walk out of there by the time it was over.
Starting point is 00:20:31 That's why we don't do those Christmas parties anymore. Those are fun times. Those are all days, man. I slow down so much, it's embarrassing. We had a couple people who've been holding for a while, Rick. Let's get one of them up. Who we got? Lex up first.
Starting point is 00:20:45 Go ahead, Lexington with Woukosh. Hey, Wu. I'll tell you what, after holding for 61 minutes, you go through a lot of emotions. That's for sure. I had the intent to ask Willie some questions about platooning and how much he loved that. But then it went to, you know, feeling bad that he went through all of his money from what I could tell. Makes me feel better about going through my paycheck sometimes. But, yeah, a lot of emotions have had.
Starting point is 00:21:17 over the last hour, that's for sure. I actually went to the UK the same time that Wu did, so I got to see him and Shigari in the cafeteria. There used to be a cafeteria in between, I guess, more it would call him than there used to be a big parking lot than the cafeteria, and I used to see them eating all-you-can-eat buffet there with our Kentucky card or whatever it was back in the day. So I'm glad to see he's doing well.
Starting point is 00:21:45 all right appreciate thanks for the phone call lex the old student center yes the old student center what was called blazer hall i think i'm not sure what's there anymore campus anymore is like you definitely need to use uh guidance to maneuver through it but for it better i wish i had that i'll take that back we have wild catalog it was pretty sweet yeah that's not bad nobody's going to feel sorry for you i don't think we we talked about this with willie but I have to bring it up with you because I assume you were there every night, but did you see Talley Ho's closing? Tally Ho's his final. That's shooting. That too. But when you were a player, did you make the walk from the lodge over? I feel like I might have seen you in there a few times. We're close to the same age.
Starting point is 00:22:33 Many times. Pancakes, I think, were my favorite. And the Holberger. That's what they call. It's coming back. And chicken tenders. That was my jam. If you went to UK, you went to Tullyho at some point in your career? Yes. Many times. Maybe not on the diet you were supposed to be on. Maybe you kind of cheated on what you were supposed to be doing there a little bit? No, so the play was simple.
Starting point is 00:23:00 Whenever I find out, we got a next day off because per NCAA, we had to have a day off, because usually it was like a Thursday or something, so I would just go out. On Wednesday night. Yes, the whole night, whatever it was happening. and then try to do my best on Thursday to skip most of my classes and just take that 5 a.m. workout on Friday morning. How hard was it for you to go to Atu Kis or whatever the hits were back then? You know, some players can blend a little bit, maybe they're not spotted,
Starting point is 00:23:30 but I have a feeling the moment you walk in, it's, hey, what is he doing here? I'm not sure what the statute of limitation with my NDA with University of Kentucky. I'm sure it expired, but it was, It was not hard to walk into Gambinos or two keys or any downtown clubs. I don't even know if a guy's club anymore these days. Not many. Yeah. And today, I'm 43 years old, I don't even know where to go.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Like, last time we ran into each other downtown, and I was like, what I'm doing here? There's just a sea of youngsters. I live here, Woo, and I felt the same way. Same way. So you're 43. It makes me feel old. Your daughter's 12. Tiger Woods turns 50 today. Yeah, happy birthday, Tiger. How does that make you feel? Tiger Woods is 50 years old. Everything makes me feel old these days, Ryan. Everything. Used to 27 made me feel old.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Have you been to go back to see your family overseas recently? No, I haven't been home since 2011, just busy. So it's been quite some time. Yeah. You still have family. I assume it lives over there. Yes, yes. All of my family, my parents, my brother, everybody's back home. How much does, like, your daughter know where you're from?
Starting point is 00:24:52 Do you try to teach her some of the culture, or is she pretty far removed? She finds it from TikTok, you know. You scroll long enough. It was like, oh, wow, I just learned something about Poland of TikTok. Does she know the stories about your dog walking you to school each way? No, no. She wants to visit. We just try to figure out where it.
Starting point is 00:25:13 right time so she can remember the visit to the old country and what it has to offer and and open the door back up. Right now, as you guys know, if you have kids playing sports, it's tournament after tournament and practice. Weekend after weekend on the road, living out a suitcase every weekend. Yes, yes. It's great timing, but, you know, it's something worth investing for sure, too. 859-2802-287 who we got next rick chi-woo is up next chie woo chie-woo go ahead chie-woo you're on woo hey woo chesh yes how are you barz-dabjian kui yaktishamash yes yes yes talk um so because i was wondering you know when you came to the united states i mean you came from poland you came to the united states
Starting point is 00:26:12 the culture shock maybe was great, maybe it wasn't. But what was it like when you got roommates who didn't look like you, you know, you didn't come from the same place, and now all of a sudden, you're in with a group of guys who are going to become your brothers over the course of years. And where you came from, it didn't look like that. Then another thing I wanted to ask you is my daughters, they go to Polish school on Friday or Saturday. Did you ever look into Polish school, as it were, in the United States, for your daughter?
Starting point is 00:26:57 Good question, Chi-Woo. We appreciate that. Awesome questions. Thanks. A lot of to digest. And just one at the time, the common denominator with arriving in the United States, especially in Kentucky, was the basketball. So camaraderie just started right away.
Starting point is 00:27:17 And 2003, I ran to a magical guy named Matt Jones and the rest of his history. So it was great learning from Matt and all of the early things that he was going through because he was still practicing actively law. And then one day he disclosed that he wants to do this full time and look at where to
Starting point is 00:27:42 where what it led to yeah what it led to something huge and awesome and he cultivates it and he cherished it and and you know so I met so many wonderful people in the state of Kentucky along my journey and I and I also met him across the country too there's places and the meetings I'm a part of
Starting point is 00:28:05 and people say hey well how are you doing you don't know this but we took a class together I'm like Oh man, this is just, you know, dream come true. And I'm glad how that just tells you how much networking you can do within the university. Sure. And how far you can carry you when you just carry yourself well as well. And with my daughter, that's a very interesting point. She's interested in and ask a lot of questions.
Starting point is 00:28:38 So we might look into something in high school When she might take a semester Overseas in Europe or even in Poland So are there Polish schools in Kentucky? I don't think so I'm not sure where the caller was from Maybe he can post something on social media But definitely something that I'm going to look into
Starting point is 00:28:58 She heard that he confirmed by the way going to class People stop him say we had class together So he did go to class I tell you that academics first I never missed a class because if you do, you have an automatic 5 a.m. That's what you said, 5 a.m. workouts, and they didn't play around. Brutal.
Starting point is 00:29:17 All right, well, take our break. Come back, get a couple more phone calls on. If you want to talk to Wu, 859-2-287, that's 859-2-8-0-80. Catch 5-9-2-80. Don't forget we got Quiz Night coming up here at KAS Bar and Grill later. Tonight should be a fun night loaded up here. Tomorrow night, then, of course, is New Year's Eve. No better place to go and celebrate New Year's Eve than KS Bar and Gris.
Starting point is 00:29:34 Wings Day tomorrow as well. Get 25 wings to say by to 25. We'll take our break. That's good. Yeah. Take our break. Ryan Drew and Wu, we're right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:29:45 All right, welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Ryan Drew and Wukhosh Orbzut, talking a lot to Wu during the break about his daughter and volleyball. People don't understand how big volleyball has gotten in the state. And I think that's reflective that UK and U of L have become two of the premier programs in the entire country right now because the volleyball movement in this state has really been growing over the last several years.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Yes. I was walking through some of those facilities and tournaments, it's mind-blowing. And a amount of courts and grades, I think kids start playing as early as fourth grade. And now I start seeing, which I'm welcoming the sign too, that the men's volleyball club team start trickling in. So maybe in colleges soon enough we're going to start seeing. Both. Both of them.
Starting point is 00:30:40 This segment brought to you by ServePro, the number one choice in cleanup and restoration, whether it's mold, fire, storm, or water damage. We've got a pro for that. We're the ones who make it like it never happened. They did it in my house. Franchise locations all across Kentucky, and franchises are independently owned and operated.
Starting point is 00:30:54 Baseball Cincinnati Reds, Surf Pro sponsors that. Surf Pro has a sponsor on the PGA Tour. Just all the Fighters League, Surf Pro Fighters Challenge League, 24 United States National Champion, and overall fastest female record breaker is Sarah McGill from the Lexington Fire Department,
Starting point is 00:31:11 thanks to Serve Pro, good partner of the show for many years. Now, there was a boy down in Tennessee. He was an elementary school kid. And at a, like, a performance, it's been like a Christmas performance. They sang Rocky Top. If you've seen the video, he refuses to sing. Everybody sings Rocky Top, but him,
Starting point is 00:31:34 because he's a Georgia Bulldog fan. He's not singing any Rocky Top. He was a Georgia Bulldog fan. He looks mad. He's like making his... He's mad shaking his hand. I'm not doing it. I'm not singing it. Well, the Georgia Bulldogs heard about this, and they now went to his house,
Starting point is 00:31:50 gave him Sugar Bowl tickets to watch Georgia play Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl as a reward for him for kind of standing up true to his red colors and not sing Rocky Top as part of the school, the class song. I saw that clip go viral. It's just great parenting. It is great parenting. We couldn't see...
Starting point is 00:32:08 dad, mom, whoever's behind that phone that's filming it, but you know they have the biggest smile on their face and so much pride that their boy would not participate in that filth. I like to think that one day, you know, maybe I will pass that lesson on to my child and maybe I'll have a moment where she's not singing Rocky Top, but just will you have kids? I don't know if you saw the clip we're talking about, but there just has to be so much joy in knowing you did your job that your kid will not participate in Rocky Top.
Starting point is 00:32:36 You just said it. This is like a scene from a movie almost, like a Napoleon dynamine reverse theme, not vote for Pedro. So it's great job parents, you know, because we have a lot of that in BBN. We don't, you know, I've seen kids out there and thanks to your crew throwing the else down all over the country. and I think everybody's doing it for no reason at all. And that's awesome. And good for Georgia to find him. I wondered if that would happen.
Starting point is 00:33:12 Yes. They found him and went to his house and rewarded him with sugar bowl tickets to look at what Georgia and Ole Miss play. So you got to look out for your next generation. I agree. Georgia is going to need more boosters in 50 years. Maybe that little kid one day will be one of their big boosters in a suite. You reward them early. Shake their hand and say thank you for being one of us.
Starting point is 00:33:31 He proved it at a young age that those colors don't run. His name was Noan McGill, so kudos to him for being true to his roots. Here's another story I like. The New York Jets had a contest where they were going to give $100,000 if anybody made a field goal. We see those kind of contests all the time. Half court shots at Rupp Arena. Just had somebody make one last week. That's right.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Somebody made a... I know him. Noah's family. No, do you? So they had this contest, and a female wins the contest. she's going to be the kicker to win $100,000. Well, come to find out she was a former college soccer player. She's now a soccer coach, and her dad, I think, was a former kicker.
Starting point is 00:34:12 So they've canceled the contest. They're not even going to give her the chance after they found out that she might actually make this field-filled goal. They completely canceled the contest. That is total horse poop right there. It was horse poop. They actually found her at a tailgate kicking contest, asked her her history. she said I'm a former soccer player wasn't an issue at all. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:34 But then on down the road, the red flag comes up that she was a coach and they pulled her. However, there is an update. Okay, what's the update? She got to kick on Sunday. She did kick on Sunday? Did she make it? They got too much pressure because people were lighting them up last week. Because it was in memory of her late father.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Yes. Season ticket holders. That's right. Like, you couldn't handpick a better person kicking for her dad who was a season. It's a great PR move. The Jets is who we're talking about here. They're awful. Of all teams, the jets.
Starting point is 00:35:00 You have a moment here. Surely you have $100,000 jets somewhere, but they did end up letting her do it on Sunday. She hit it? Well, I have bad news. She had to kick from 30 yards. She didn't get it there. So really all of this could have been avoided by the jets.
Starting point is 00:35:18 No kidding. Instead, the Jets made a bad PR mood. They come out looking like the bad guys again. And even when they invited her on Sunday, everybody's like, we know you got pressured into this. We're not believing it. But she did get her moment on Sunday and came up short. I am waiting for Georgia to step in and give them their $100 grand and two tickets.
Starting point is 00:35:35 Yeah. Where are you, Georgia Bulldogs? Come on back. She also, to get the $100,000, she had to make from $30 and then from $40. So I would just say to the Jets, were you really afraid of someone making a $30 and a 40-yarder for $100,000 in memory of her father? At worst, you have a very cool moment that everyone celebrates. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:35:55 And join it. But the most likely scenario is she misses, which she did, but instead they just had a week of getting made fun of because they're the damage was done already. They can't do anything right. Sure, the YouTubers are giving out Lamborghinis and Jets can afford $100 grand anymore. So what did the guy win at Rupp Arena that hit the half-court shot the other day? I believe they give $10,000. That was the Central Bank, whatever they call it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Now, they give them more than one shot, right? They get three shots. They get three shots. A few years ago, they had somebody hit earlier in the year, maybe a second. They might have gone back to back. And I was on to them because as the year went on, they just kept getting respectfully to older folks. They kept getting like the oldest person in the gym, people with one arms.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Like they were like making sure you couldn't make it. We're not going to make it. This year they've gone back to getting students and then Evelyn made them pay earlier this year. That's always a fun moment. I feel like we've had a pretty good amount of people making that. I feel like so too. We've had at least three or four in the last couple years that we've made this shot. Kentucky fan base.
Starting point is 00:36:54 We all dream of hitting that shot and rough. You give somebody a moment. They're going to take a moment. advantage of it. I think everybody's practicing in the driveway, too. Well, of course, we all did growing up. Do you think heave the half-court shot at Rupp Arena with time running out? All right, 859-2-2-287.
Starting point is 00:37:07 One more story. Then we'll go back to the following. There's kind of a, you guys have probably heard there's like a burglary ring that's going around like professional athletes when they're on the road playing. They hit a Titan two weeks ago. Did they? Jeff Simmons got hit, Big Jeff. Well, Travis Kelsey's been at his house, Rob, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrell.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Burrough, that's how they found out he had a girlfriend. That's true, yes, because the girlfriend called the police. Well, now they've switched to basketball, and they've hit Shea Gilgis Alexander's house. So I guess this ring, they just find out when the team's going to be on the road, and they know nobody's at their house. Go burglarizes their house, but Shay Alexander is the latest pro athlete, big-time pro athlete who's at his house robbed. I don't want to call it a good idea, but if you're a burglar and the person you're trying to steal from is on your TV,
Starting point is 00:37:57 playing basketball in another city. I can see why they would, you know, whoever thought up with this genius plan, it's been working for a while hitting these houses that they know are empty. The NFL even talked about, like, helping guys get security. It got so bad.
Starting point is 00:38:11 I don't know if they ever did anything with that because I think how hard that would be to fund security for all these players. But it has gotten out of control. You name five, there's several more where this ring or maybe copycat rings, they're just looking at the schedule. And they're like, well, he won't be home.
Starting point is 00:38:25 He's on Monday night football. I'll go get his house. They're all having to step up, at least the big time stars are having to, you know, fund their own right now when they leave. You'd think these big million-dollar mansions, though, they've got some sort of security system in place. I don't know how they can buy all this.
Starting point is 00:38:39 There must be, I wanted to feel it was like some sort of inside job with a security system person. There's been so many examples of it. I don't think it could be one thing. But even with the security system, if I look at my TV and I know that you are busy right now, I'm watching you throw a pass on TV, that gives them a level of comfort to go in and raid the place because it's happened a lot.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Like I said, Jeffrey Simmons from the Titans, they had a road trip two Sundays ago, came back to his house. What you do? What you do? Things happen to when you're in a house or part of your family members are not traveling with you and somebody breaks in your house just like, and I'm pretty sure most of those homes are on large properties and land. Yeah. And the help is far away.
Starting point is 00:39:27 How you defend yourself? My question is how you react. I guess, you know, you could have somebody house sit for you. You just hire somebody to house it when you're on the road. That's just an inconvenience that you shouldn't have to deal with. True. And the boroughs and Mahomes can afford this. They all are well-penn enough to afford something.
Starting point is 00:39:43 But just the fact that they have to do it. Like, you cannot leave your home for a weekend to go do your job without having to worry about getting robbed. I've seen Rajan's house. I go house to his house. He got a basketball gym. He had probably 24 feet ceiling heights and doorways and an elevator. So it's a beautiful home.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Let's learn more about that. Rondo having house parties we don't know about you. You're doing some reunions? Randall is extremely busy man. I think his daughter plays for Alabama, right? Yeah. And his son's playing for North Oldham as an eighth grader. Starts Point Guard as an eighth grader.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Yes, very good. his father, Rondo, has been coaching him since he's going to be a guy to watch out. We're looking for a point guard, so it might be worth asking if he's ready. Love another Rondo in UK Blue. You know, they're getting point guards from overseas, getting point guards from the G League. Why can we get a point guard from middle school? Sure. Pick him up.
Starting point is 00:40:45 We'll throw him on the roster. Is there any truth to this Rondo being a flag football quarterback? He's like ranked number one in the country. Do you all have these conversations about his, is this like a midlife crisis where he's just out playing quarterback at random football leagues? Still extremely athletic and competitive and very good. I was asking him if he is looking for a tight end and let me know.
Starting point is 00:41:06 He just laughed me out, but I'm serious. I believe you. Just go out and put your hands up. I'll throw it to you. Yes. Yes. I watch the videos. It is true.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Rajan. Rajan, he's extremely fast and his footwork is remarkable. All right, we'll take our final break. Come back, our final segment with Woocage. If you want to call and get on board, we'll get you on real quick. 859-280-2287. Ryan Drew and Wu here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last night, a blown call changed a game.

Starting point is 00:45:33 Welcome back at Kentucky Sports Radio. Our final segment, Ryan, Drew and Wu, 859-2802287. Drew, who's this segment sponsored by? The official credit union of joy. The holidays are full of hustle and bustle, but UK Credit Union believes in slowing down to find the joy in the season. whether that's sharing a meal with friends, giving back to those in need,
Starting point is 00:45:52 or embracing loved ones beneath the twinkling lights and whatever city you live in, Lexington, these are the moments that remind us what the season is truly about. So y'all, with every smile, every laugh, every kind word, let's be the joy that Kentucky needs. Be the Joy, Kentucky, UK Credit Union,
Starting point is 00:46:08 the official credit union of Joy membership eligibility required, federally insured by NCUA. I heard there for... Officially of Joy, that's a big deal. I heard there for all y'all. All y'all. I got that on a coffee bug at home. All y'all.
Starting point is 00:46:19 I just can't escape it. Ryan, Drew, and Wu, here we've got a couple of calls. We want to get on Rick before we get out of here, so let's get one right now. Who we got? Okay. David is up next. David, go ahead, David. Hey, Drew, Ryan and Wu.
Starting point is 00:46:31 This is David. I am so glad that you have Wu on the air today. He came into my store, Dajus Paint here in Louisville. He drove from Shelbyville looking for blue and white for his jukebox, and he came in, and we got him all hooked up. He was the nicest guy. I love Wu. And I'm also the brother of Sissy cakes and the uncle to Will Stein. So we are so excited and just willing to call in and tell Wu that I appreciate him.
Starting point is 00:47:02 And he was such a nice guy. I loved him when he was at UK. And when he walked through that door and I saw that 7-foot-3 guy, I immediately said Woucage orbsuit. Appreciate the phone call. And tell your sister, thank you for sending him to order some cissy cakes. She sent some over to Drew and I. Yes, sir. About a month ago, and they were fantastic.
Starting point is 00:47:21 So, Tell her, thank you very much. Awesome. So you had the little jukebox repair you needed to done, what was going on there? Yeah, so I have a 1955 Seaburg that is being fully restored with help of multiple people across the country, fully operation, 100% outending. And the gentleman from a call helped me out with the UK blue and white, and he was actually able to make the paint. Perfect. So long-generational business owner, and I'm glad there are still places like this in this country.
Starting point is 00:47:57 This is such a Kentucky thing to happen. Wu has a 7-year-old jukebox. Wu, our 7-foot former center of the basketball team, goes to get it fixed and just happens to be the football coach's uncle. Our new football coach's uncle. Just happen to be the guy that's, oh, yeah, I can get you your blue and white paint for your old jukebox. Just bringing football and basketball together. Maybe y'all can pregame, tailgate a little bit for some of Will's games next fall. He knows where to find me.
Starting point is 00:48:23 Ryan already said it, Drew. Yeah, I revealed your location. Tell me about this jukebox. Do you get to pick the songs that are on it? Just kind of is it tuned the way it is? How does this work? It was my wife's great end, and we kind of inherited it. And I was like, I want to see it play.
Starting point is 00:48:40 Yeah. So I reached out to, like, a number of people and thank them all across the country. I think the amplifier was shipped out to California to be restored because it's all of those older generation guys in their 70s and 80s who are very particular how this and I just wanted to see it play and it's fully restored and operational and he plays wonderfully. And he has records. They played the little 45 records, I guess.
Starting point is 00:49:11 Vinyl, yes. That's classic. Yes. Awesome. Let's get on the phone call, Rick. Who we got? Richard is up next. Richard, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:49:19 Richard. Your only woo. Yes, sir. I was calling to a friend the other day regarding these $37 million that Mark Stoop is to get. He said that it would be given by the state of contract. I said, no, I don't think so. And so I want to ask you exactly, where does all that money come from? Well, that's a great question.
Starting point is 00:49:43 That's coming from different sources. I believe they had to kind of figure out. Yeah, a lot of it's media-related. Yeah. But, yeah, some of it will come from UK, too. Some will come from U.K. Some will come, I think, from some boosters, and some will come from this media. Yeah, boosters will have to help U.K.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Yes. And J.M. I owe some of it because a lot of these coaches' contracts. A big part of it is with their media side of it, too. But the main thing is, Coach Dup's agreed to spread it out. Not all do it once, like we're originally in the contract. That was the big hiccup. He agreed to spread it out over a couple years. Yeah, that'll make it a little easier on UK taking that on the books.
Starting point is 00:50:13 All right, Rick, let's get another one before we get out of here. Who we got? Got Kentucky Surveyor. Kentucky Surveyor. Go ahead, sir. Hey, fellas, how's going? How are you? Doing good, doing good.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Dakota, we were listening to yesterday's podcast and just decided we'd call in. Well, what's your connection to Kentucky if you're up in North Dakota? Well, we're from there. I've got a daughter and a son-in-law and a new grandbaby up here in the airport. Gotcha. So we've just been up here visiting them and heading back home. Just thought we'd call in. glad to hear Wu on there. I love him.
Starting point is 00:50:55 Well, you'd be safe driving back and keep fighting, and congratulations up there on the new grandbaby up in North Dakota, but I appreciate the phone call. All right, we're about out of time, 859, 2802-287. We do want to give a big shout out to Carl Anthony Towns. Oh, yeah, he got engaged.
Starting point is 00:51:12 Got engaged, Wu. Jordan. Jordan Woods. He's now in with the Kardashians. So, Devin Booker's been with the Kardashians. Now, Carl's in with the Kardashians. Yeah, she's a friend of the Kardashians. They've been together a long time. Long time.
Starting point is 00:51:25 You could just tell if you follow Carl on social media, he's been in love. We knew this day was coming. Oh, he's quite smitten. Oh, yeah. They've been together. He's all booed up. It feels like four or five years, to be honest. But we figured this day would eventually happen,
Starting point is 00:51:38 then they announced it over Christmas. Looks like a little rooftop proposal in New York City. So congrats to Kat and Jordan. He's kind of thriving with the Knicks. You know, after the trade from Minnesota. He's kind of thriving with him. Happy for him, too. He was getting a little sour in Minnesota there at the end of
Starting point is 00:51:52 his time and then of course he's from new york got the got the connections there so he's loving being the star and the big apple uh well appreciate you woo coming in and spending some time with us kind of good to catch up with us and we kind of haven't seen you in a while yeah it's happy new year anytime you know i'm i'm easily to reach you just let me know and we make it happen you used to go to all our christmas parties used to go to the kentucky derby with us we kind of had after covid-cobit had to quit doing some of that stuff but we need to get you back around a little more twenty twenty six he's coming up happy new year's everybody thank you that's our year good to hear from you I've got to do this more often.
Starting point is 00:52:23 So tomorrow, Drew, you're running the ship. You got the control. Yeah. You booked us a guest, though, right? We have a guest. J.P. Blevins will be coming in tomorrow to talk to us a little bit. That'll be part of the show. Last show of the new year of the 2025, where we go into the new year.

Bring some of those. Maybe some party hats. I have some of those, too. For all the acquaintance. Is it acquaintance?
